2020 in review: kdramas (the heart fluttering, the disappointing, the saviors of 2020)

it’s december 31st! the new year is quite literally upon us (some of y’all are already in 2021) and my procrastinating self has chosen to upload this today. i’ve always loved these rec lists and I wanted to do one for 2020! this year was a rollercoaster for kdramas with some excellent ones and some not so excellent ones. i watched all of these in 2020 but not all of them were released in 2020.

drama that made me laugh

When The Camellia Blooms (2019)

i finally got around to watching when the camellia blooms this year and it. was. so. funny. oh my goodness, the comedic timing in so many scenes was pure excellency and im kinda mad at myself that i didn’t watch this last year. this isn’t just a comedy for those who are interested, its a thriller/romance but its also so fucking funny. definitely watch this if you want to laugh (and be touched bc the emotional scenes in this one are beautiful)

drama that made me cry

Sweet Home (2020)

hahah….. um this one is gonna go to sweet home friends. i went into this one with zero expectations and the first couple episodes didn’t really wow me? but i kept watching and holy shit fam. this show really picks up story-wise around ep 4 and makes the viewer love a lot of these initially unlikable characters. all i can say is that the end was devastating for me and i cried quite a bit. (warning, there are a lot of mature themes in this one so make sure you look for trigger warnings or send me an ask and i’ll list them all out for you)

best OST

Itaewon Class (2020)

i loved the ost for itaewon class!! the music is just so inspirational and pump up music, its so good. my favorites are ‘you make me back’ by woosung and ‘start’ by gaho.

It’s Okay To Not Be Okay (2020)

we recognize this one as one of the best things to come out of 2020. go moon young and moon kang tae have some of the best chemistry i have ever seen in a drama couple. i waited on the edge of my seat every single week for the next couple of episode just so i could fawn over these two. they work so well together, lift each other up, and so fucking funny together and support one another. while they’re not the chillest couple (lmao) they’re most certainly one with the most personality. they’re so cute and bicker and they just get each other. who could ask for more.

Flower of Evil (2020)

our badass mom and dad 😭😭. this was another peak drama that came out this year and our married partners-in-crime-but-not-really had amazing chemistry. baek hee sung and cha ji won were so cute as a married couple but they were even more precious later on in the drama after certain things unfolded (no spoilers). they both just get each other and protected one another as well as on the most precious kdrama children this year, their daughter eunha. they were so wholesome, flower of evil is so very worth a watch.

Into The Ring (2020)

this was one of the more underappreciated kdramas of the year but hoo buddy was the main couples chemistry top notch. they were so friggin cute and i just couldn’t. goo se ra is highkey one of the best female characters i’ve ever seen, she’s absolute chaos, lawful chaos, but chaos nonetheless. her other half, seo gong myung is opposite from her as lawful neutral. he’s just along for the ride that is se ra and loves her. they’re both so very fond and protective of each other and back each other up!! very very cute and you’ll definitely replay more than a couple of their scenes together.

most disappointing

Record of Youth (2020)

it’s sad but true… i went into this one with so much hope and excitement (i was riding off that ‘psycho but its okay’ high) and i was vastly disappointed. the plot mostly focused on the male lead, and there wasn’t much characterization for the female lead which i didn’t like. honestly, i only cared about maybe 3-4? characters in the whole drama. the rest were absolutely terrible or plain boring and i ended up skipping eps 14 and 15 and just watched the finale. i would not recommend tbh.

drama you can’t really get through

Crash Landing on You (2019)

this one is absolutely on me, i want so badly to love this one. but i just… can’t seem to get past ep 2? i’ve tried!! i swear, but i just cannot get through it. maybe in 2021, i can try again and i’ll enjoy it more.

Kairos (2020)

i though kairos was a bit predictable tbh. i know those of us who did end up watching it really liked it but maybe its because i watch so many crime/mystery shows that this one didn’t really do it for me. the writing is quite solid and everything connects well, i would recommend that those who don’t really watch thrillers, to watch this one. (also the friendship between the female lead and her two friends is suuuper cute and worth it alone to watch kairos)

favorite romance

It’s Okay To Not Be Okay (2020)

yeah… this one wins again lol. what can i say, i just loved it so much and the main theme of the show is romance (its also a comedy and a mental health/healing drama) all i can say is watch this if you haven’t yet, its definitely worth it!!

favorite mystery

Memorist (2020) & Watcher (2019)

i really enjoyed these two mystery dramas. both were super fun to watch and very kinda unique in their own ways. i liked memorist because it was lowkey funny and i liked the relationships between the characters, but most importantly i couldn’t guess the main antagonist by the end! i really thought i knew who it was and then i was completely wrong lmao. watcher was also very good, the main trio had really good chemistry and i really cared about all the characters. (also i’ll never say no to watching seo kang joon) plus the plot twists threw me a bit at the end which is always a feeling i welcome, i love being surprised and wrong (as long as it makes sense)

favorite slice of life

Hospital Playlist (2020)

oh my goodness, i was late to the hospital playlist party and i regret it because this show is so. so. good. its just a slice of life following 5 friends who are doctors and work at the same hospital together but its so much more than that. this is honestly one of the first shows i’ve seen that are optimistic? in the show, every time i thought a plot was going to play out a certain way (usually negatively, as tends to be life unfortunately) it surprised me by taking the more optimistic wholesome route. characters in subplots changed for the better, became more understanding, chose to do the right thing, etc. if you want a feel good drama where the main characters have wonderful platonic chemistry and just care about each other but is also super funny, watch hospital playlist!! (season 2 is coming out early 2021 and im so pumped)

favorite fantasy

The Untamed (2019)

this one is a cdrama but i watched it in 2020, mostly because of how many people on the internet were adamant that the rest of us watch this and ngl they were v right. the untamed was very very good and im really glad i gave it a chance and watched it, its also my first cdrama ever. the chemistry between the male leads is honestly what makes this show and its worth the 50? i think? episodes. to be completely honest the fanfiction for the show are peak and if you do watch this, go straight to ao3 and you will not be disappointed.

dramas that saved 2020

The Uncanny Counter (2020) & Run On (2020)

these two dramas are among those that started airing at the end of the year and will go into the beginning of 2021 and absolutely saved the end of 2020 for me. while neither of these are finished, both have been excellent so far and worth starting. uncanny counter has the best use of the found family trope i have ever seen. i fucking love the four counters and their relationship with each other, how protective they are of one another. they all have amazing chemistry and the actors have amazing chemistry in the making films.

run on has one of the cutest couples that will definitely make my best chemistry list for next year. i didn’t put them on this list bc they actually haven’t gotten together yet but once they do, they’re gonna be freaking adorable, i can already tell. there’s no specific grand events propelling the plot forward, but just following the lives of these unique, interesting and relatable people who have casual yet entertaining conversations with each other. the show is super soft and the main couple are so straightforward and honest (plus theres mutual pining!!)

“I guess everyone I’ve been with gets a little piece of my heart”

Mickey froze where he was standing, by the toilet bowl and the dust-covered bathroom shelves, and felt his heart sink. The fuck is he talking about?

“Wait, everyone?”

“Yeah. Yup.” Ian froze for a moment, his toothbrush hanging out of the corner of his mouth. “Okay, maybe not everybody. You don’t feel the same way?”

Mickey could almost wince. Fucking Gallagher—didn’t Ian know he was the only guy Mickey had really been with, because Ian was the only one that mattered? Instantly, Mickey thought back to all of the sloppy and excruciatingly boring hookups he’d had with women—back before he came out and was constantly putting on a show, was burying who he really was deep beneath the ground.

Ian looked at him earnestly, toothbrush still half in his mouth, with those steady green eyes Mickey could always get lost in—the only thing keeping Mickey afloat during those darker days, when he felt like everything else was pulling him under. Ian was the only person who had ever made Mickey’s heart race or his palms sweaty, the only fucking person who made Mickey feel like he was here for a reason, no matter what bullshit life threw at him. Ian was the center of Mickey’s existence, and he always had been—how could that asshole not realize that no one else Mickey’d been with could ever compare to him?

“No, I don’t. Y’know what, fuck you” is what Micket wanted to say—he felt the words about to launch off the tip of his tongue. Instead, before he knew what he was doing, Mickey lied.

“Uhhhhh. I guess, man. Y’know, I had that thing down in Mexico with, uh, Julio.” Mickey looked down at his bare feet on the tiled bathroom floor, knowing that Ian would see right through him if he looked directly in his eyes.

Ian’s eyebrows raised in genuine confusion as he leaned over the sink. “Julio? Who the fuck is Julio?” Ian sputtered as he spit out a mouthful of foamy toothpaste.

“Were you not listening, smartass? He was my… my lover. I was in Mexico a long time before I snitched on the cartel and threw my life away for your ass.”

Ian stood up and placed his toothbrush in a cup on the shelf above the sink, turning to look at Mickey, who finally raised his gaze from the linoleum. Ian didn’t look hurt, which was what Mickey was aiming for— more than anything, Ian just looked thoroughly confused, and maybe a little bit amused.

“You’ve never mentioned anything about some dude named Julio, Mick. Where’d you meet him?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know, Gallagher.”

Mickey stormed out of the bathroom, and turned the corner into their bedroom. It was this fucking quarantine, that was the problem—the same way that they were down each other’s throats when they were cramped together in a tiny jail cell. They were so used to the lack of each other that being together always seemed to make a mess of things. Ian didn’t actually mean that he had been in love with other people— right?

People annoyed Mickey, mostly— sex was sex, just another bland part of his bland life of doing runs for his dad, living in his fucked-up household, getting drunk with his brothers. And then one day, Ian came bursting through his door. Mickey would never forget that first time that he and Ian were together— in his opinion, that day probably permanently altered his brain chemistry or some shit. The day that he was laying in bed, woken up by a pale-faced angel whose chest was just as smooth and beautifully pale and freckled as the skin on his face and hands. And Mickey was also covered with skin, that was apparently covered with super-powered nerve endings that hadn’t done a goddamn thing his whole life, but came alive like ice and fire and bee stings as soon as Ian touched him. Wherever Ian touched him.

Sex was just sex to Mickey, for so long—but sex with Ian was on an entirely different plane of existence.

And the thought of Ian being like that with someone else, especially during that time when Mickey was locked up and there was a wall of plexiglass between them, a wall Mickey had put there himself when all he was doing was trying to protect Ian from Sammi’s bullshit; well, it made Mickey’s stomach churn.

Ian followed Mickey out of the bathroom and leaned on the doorframe of their bedroom, like he knew Mickey needed some space. “You and this Julio guy, you were like, together?”

Mickey kept his gaze downward as he put on a wrinkled shirt. “Hell yeah, man. We lived in a shack by the beach, fucked all day long. You don’t know everything about me, Gallagher.”

“I guess not.” Ian mused, still looking like he half didn’t believe Mickey. “So, uh. This Julio guy. You’re saying he has a piece of your heart?”

“Oh yeah, a big ol’ chunk of it. You aren’t special, Gallagher. In fact, he might have a bigger piece than you do, with all the fucking bickering we’ve been doing lately,” Mickey spat out as he pulled on his shoes.

Ian rolled his eyes, but sensing Mickey’s tension, he kept talking. “Mick, you know I didn’t mean it. You have the majority of my heart. The vast majority.”

Mickey scoffed, feeling more pissed off than ever. “Oh, yeah? How much is that, exactly?”

“I don’t know… 87%?”

Mickey looked at Ian, charging up for a fight. “Fuck you. That’s not enough.”

“It is enough, Mick. I’ve been with so many people I can barely remember their names. You know what it was like at the club. That’s 87% for you, and 13% for every other meaningful connection I’ve ever had in the years we were apart—that seems pretty stacked to me.”

“Yeah, well, joke’s on you, motherfucker, because you don’t even have that much of my heart, anyways. In fact, maybe I’ll go back down to fucking Mexico and see if Julio’s still around.”

Ian rolled his eyes. “Mick, calm down. You don’t mean that.”

“I do, asshole. Excuse me for thinking I had your whole heart, instead of pissing away 13% of it while I was locked behind bars and tattooing your fucking name onto my chest.” Mickey turned to where Ian was blocking the doorway. “You gonna let me through?”

Ian sighed, gently putting a hand up to Mickey’s chest to stop him from barreling past into the hallway. “Okay, listen, all that shit came out wrong. You know you’re the only one that matters.”

Mickey looked at Ian’s hand on his chest, then looked up and to meet Ian’s gaze. “Do I?” he said, in a softer voice than he realized.

Ian smirked, and let his arms glide up Mickey’s chest and around his shoulders, locking him in close. “Hey. Of course you are. You’re the only one I ever wanted to be with forever.”

“Fuck you,” Mickey said earnestly, but he didn’t try to shake himself from Ian’s grasp.

Ian let his hands roam up to cradle the back of Mickey’s head in his hands, making sure he had Mickey’s undivided attention. “Listen. All those people, like Ned or Kash or whoever, they were all an important part of me becoming who I am, and nothing can change that. But they’re all a part of our love story, Mick. They’re all… minor characters, on the path of me getting to marry you.”

Now Mickey was the one rolling his eyes, his tough exterior finally starting to melt. “Yeah, okay softie.” His eyes flickered downward, in one last moment of vulnerability. “It’s just… it’s hard to forget all the stuff I missed out on, all the time we both coulda had. Time where you were with other people and not me.”

Ian pecked Mickey’s forehead, holding him in close. “Yeah, well, we have plenty of time now. Almost too much time. So much time that we’re ripping each other’s heads off.”

Mickey leaned back, and smirked. “Well, I’ve got a pretty good idea of what we can do with all that time on our hands, Mr. Milkovich.”

Ian leaned in closer, Mickey’s face millimeters from his. “Oh yeah?”

As Mickey leaned in to close the gap between their lips, he felt the nerve endings all over his body going fucking crazy again—maybe it had been a bumpy path for them both, and maybe he’d lost some of Ian along the way, but he couldn’t deny that this was worth the wait.

thank you, jen @det395 !! i feel like this meme got away from me a bit, but no shame! i love talking about books and writing so onward ~under the cut~

1- how many books are too many books in a series?

mhmmmmm i guess it depends on the objective of the series, right? is the plan to have x number of books in the series and if so, when we finally get to the end will it be satisfying considering all the books we’ve read leading up to it? OR is the objective of the premise / characters just to exist doing whatever? both can be done well. i would say a lot rides on how much i trust the author.

2- what do you think about cliffhangers?

so this is meant for cliffhangers in a series like between books? i don’t really care if there’s a cliffhanger as long as i have the next book sitting right next to me. otherwise uh, only if the wait between books is tolerable, because at that point you need to know that the author can clear this mess up, right? there’s this other thing, like you know how if the entire series was already written, then they might release the books a month apart or a quarter apart - that could be alright too. but years in between? not especially a fan. is anyone a fan?

3- hardback or paperback?

jen, you and me are complete opposites here. paperbacks stress me out. i will go out of my way to buy a used hardcover if given the choice. of course, there are some publications i don’t mind in paperback —thinking poetry and super indie books that don’t have a hardcover release OR books where the spines are thin enough they won’t break and i won’t be holding them long enough for them to wear. hardcovers are sturdy and i don’t have to worry i’ll accidentally bend the cover in some damaging way. I am invested in keeping my books nice to the point that i create covers for my books out of kraft paper or brown grocery bags while i am reading them. this is something i started when i was in college and didn’t want these books i was hoping to probably resell get thrashed coming in and out of my bag for all these classes. My home library is probs more half and half paperback/hardcover but if given a choice usually it’s hardcover.

4- least favourite book?

i think it’s good to at least attempt to meet a book on its level. there are lots of books i didn’t like, but i wasn’t meeting them on their level and i know that so we’re ignoring those. i do however have a shelf on my goodreads dedicated to books that i have beef with so i’ll just go off on two of them.....

tana french’s the likeness for being plagiaristic shit. it is essentially poorly concealed alternate universe OC insert fic of the secret history. you’ve got french’s dublin murder squad folks and then this group they are investigating who bear a STRIKING resemblance to the greek students in tsh 🤔. this would be one thing. it is pretty well acknowledged that nothing is original and there are enough changes to The Likeness that MAYBE i could let it slide if not for this other thing: french’s book, the likeness, has lines that are just basically reworded quotes from the secret history and french positions these lines so they are said by the counterpart (essentially same!) character that gave them original life in tsh. i cannot stress this enough: you can HEAR how similar the sentences are and their core intent is always the same. it’s thinly veiled theft! it astounds me that French hasn’t been sued frankly. it is one thing to want to capture some of the genius that tartt’s debut novel holds, but it is completely lazy and disgusting theft to go about it in the way French did with this book. and YES the secret history was published before french’s book. if i could stomach how fucking goddamn boring the likeness was to read it a second time and cite every one of these offenses i would, but that’s yet a third strike against it—it’s too boring to be worth it.

T. Kingfisher’s second book of the Clocktuar War duology : The Wonder Engine. this is a book that i feel violated the contract between writer and reader. the first book feels almost like a YA book. the stakes while described as very high are treated, as actions unfold, as very low. nothing truly irreparable happens until the climax of the second book and the fallout of that action is so off-tone of everything that came before i felt deeply betrayed. no, like, completely betrayed as in it ruined the rest of my afternoon, i am still viscerally angry eight months later, and i will never trust this author again. sure, maybe none of those actions that led to the climax were out-of-character, but there was nothing NOTHING in the proceeding action that even came close to that level of consequence. it’s a pity because right up till that point i was having a really good time. the entire vibe of the rising action to the climax of book one all the way through the rising action of book two was just a quippy fun version of roadtrip/quest - it felt like a comfort read. the abrupt tone shift had all the subtlety of dropping a graphically, brutal murder into Blue’s Clues. you don’t do that - this is a basic tenet of a writer / reader relationship. i’m not touching this bitch’s shit again.

5- Love Triangle, yes or no?

not so much. i like jen before me will scream ‘just be poly.’ love triangles that lead into poly relationships? yes, awesome will be glad i read. but i am at a stage in my life where your standard will-they-won’t-they-love-triangle is just fucking pointlessly frustrating to me. an example: i read a Nic Stone’s book Odd One Out a couple years ago and something about the synopsis or the hype made me think that it would resolve the love triangle that way, so when that did not happen i was incredibly frustrated and immediately wanted to resell the book. it’s the potential of the thing. stone’s book could have been the perfect vehicle for opening up the concept of polyamory to a ya audience but instead just really squandered that potential with weak floundering — in my opinion!

6- the most recent book you just couldn’t finish

uhhhhh i’ve got two and i’m not sure i’ve entirely given up quite yet buuuuuuuut

fucking dune. i got really pissed off with this book. So just…setting aside the whole vaguing at a pedophilically inclined queer coded villain - it’s done so poorly, that it's almost funny? like it doesn’t (as of half way through) actually have any consequence on…anything at all and is tacked on like an afterthought to the end of his scenes. honestly it all could just be cut out entirely with no recourse to the larger story. So my actual beef with this book is the pacing is ATROCIOUS. like yo, not only do you expect me to give a shit about these Atreides cunts, when we just met them and we spend the same amount of time with them IF NOT MORE with the antagonist? but you also expect me to believe Paul was able to just convince the leader of the Arrakis people —the leader of an entire planet!!— with a single fucking sentence??? yeah, not so much. it was not set up for me to believe that Paul could do that! maybe if Kynes hadn’t died immediately after—or at least not died at that moment? baring the fact I thought he was by far the most interesting character, IF he had been convinced by Paul in that scene, it would have been great to see some actual work done around that - with a transfer or a liaise of power between Kynes and Paul and the Fremen. By not having any substantive scene that does it - it begs the question of what the fuck was the point of the character in the first place? unplumbed potential!!! over all there seem to be some key scenes missing to get the reader to where the narrative expects us to be? but the choices made of the characters we spend time with and the moments we see with them, the benefit to the larger story…is not always there. hey herbert, these words you have written aren’t doing what you want them to?? i feel like i should finish it but i reaaaaallly don’t want to :) the only thing i can say is it looks like from the trailer, villeneueve is giving space to these moments so that the viewer can foster a genuine connection with the characters? radical concept.

our lady of perpetual hunger - i started this one optimistically bc i like chef memoirs, but i am at the point where she has just given birth to her son and honestly DON’T CARE. i still haven’t officially given up on it yet since i actually fucking bought it like a dope. i certainly would not have if i knew how much NOT about working the line this was gonna be

7- book you are currently reading

Aside from the failures mentioned above, I am working on the second book in B. Catling’s Vorrh trilogy, The Erstwhile. Also very close to finally finishing Iain Sinclair’s The Last London - there’s a review of his work from the LA Times that goes “One of Sinclair’s greatest skills has always been his ability to take diverse if not chaotic source material and refashion it in a way that sometimes seems downright alchemical” which captures some of the wonder I experience when reading his work. His style and how he creates atmosphere and setting is just unique and astounding.

8- last book you recommended to someone

The Secret History by Donna Tartt. Before that I told my brother to read Eat a Peach, as we both love Anthony Bourdain and David Chang talks about him a bit here, plus it’s just a fucking great book. any book that gives insight into Chang’s methodology and paradigm is worth a shot.

9- oldest book you read

I think it might have to be Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night (which apparently according to wiki premiered on the stage a whole four months before Hamlet so that’s what we’re going with) and if plays don’t count, I don’t care. I think they count and that’s what we’re going with.

10- the most recent book you read ?

Given the previous question, the most recently published book, right? It’s gotta be the one I just finished: The First Collection of Criticism by a Living Female Rock Critic - Revised and Expanded edt., which like just came out this summer. I watched Jessica Hopper’s promo zoom, curtesy of my local indie bookstore, and went ahead and bought it. This was a great decision! It was just what I needed to read these last couple of weeks. i love there’s lots of short pieces that made the read quick and the fact that it’s non-fiction so there was no pressure of a plot or the emotional weight of character investment when I had a lot of big stressors dragging me down irl -it was such a relief. Hopper’s criticism is fun to read and there’s some real art in her appreciation of music here.

11- favourite author?

These are the top in a kind of order but not really: Donna Tartt, Jeff VanderMeer, Megan Whalen Turner, Flannery O’Conner, Chuck Palahniuk, Anthony Bourdain

Other faves very much worth mentioning: Emily O’Neill, Richard Siken, Brandon Sanderson, Warren Ellis, Nathan Englander, Stephen King, Eddie Huang, Carl Hiaassen, Anne Carson, and Iain Sinclair.

12- buying books or borrowing books?

Depends on if my library has it, of course! I nearly always see if my library has a copy first if i have never read it or the author before. If i’ve read the book before or trust the author, I’ll buy it. nesbø’s the snowman (what kinda dumbass detective would think THAT when a woman finds her missing father’s corpse? absolute idiocy - so obviously reverse engineered with that end in mind)

the raven cycle (fuck ronan lynch to start and then fuck him to end as well - there’s some other stuff but mostly he’s a total CUNT and if i don’t say that once a day i have probably died)

15- The book you can always reread?

This is my question because I reread all the time. ALL THE TIME. Books I reread often: The Secret History, Medium Raw (especially chapter 17 The Fury), Crooked Kingdom, The Violent Bear It Away, and The Goldfinch. Every year like clockwork (since it came out apparently) I will reread Stephen King’s The Outsider.

Other books I feel the urge to reread: VanderMeer’s Acceptance, Englander’s Dinner at the Center of the Earth, Frazier’s Nightwoods, Fresh Off the Boat, the Mr. Mercedes trilogy, the Peter Grant Series (which is queued up for another go here soon I think), any of the stories from A Good Man is Hard to Find, Sanderson’s Wax and Wayne Mistborn books, simon vs the homosapiens’ agenda, and there are two of Alan Morinis’ books on Mussar that I am technically always revisiting—when i need a reminder, i’ll jump around and read specific sections to get centered again.

16- can you read while listening to music?

Yes, but only ambient or near ambient (only usually one track on repeat) or a soundtrack I am extremely familiar with. No new music. I do usually need some audio stimulation or my mind will wander terribly.

17- one POV or multi POV?

Multi pov can certainly be done well (looking at the soc duaology and VanderMeer’s Acceptance) but working a multi-pov means there are more plates spinning, it’s more of a challenge, and some authors pull it off better than others.

18- do you read book in one sitting or in multiple days?

I don’t really do this anymore. that might have something to do with me picking up thicker books? but also i have a full time job now and let’s be real the book has to be hella good if i don’t want to put it down. the last book i attempted to shotgun was the final installment of my favorite series and it still took me two days so....i can get through a lot of books but none of them are ever in one sitting anymore.

Trying to semi-organize my thoughts on what exactly I am wanting out of spn fic and hm let's see. If I remember this post in the future, I may update it as I think of/on things and use this for reference so I, also, don't forget lol

Okay so, wants/likes:

Cas prominent. He is my, as I believe the kpop kids say, bias, so he is kind of non-negotiable. Sorry I am just not interested in fics where he is not prominent

Destiel not required but a good plus. Slight preference for intricate courtship rituals over ones where they figure things out ridiculously easy, unless it is established relationship. If the revelation comes too quick and easy then I get taken out of the moment :')

Optional: Angels treating Cas like their baby brother :3 Cas can be somewhat put out by it or not. Actually maybe bonus if he IS, bc they are all angels of the lord and relative by rank and experience, And Yet [whoever] just cannot help but be *points* Baby

canonverse is plus. canon divergence is okay but idk how close to canon I'm looking for, if it's too close to an episode rewrite I may not be into that either

Any exploration of the whole fucky destiel thematic dichotomies, the whole free will vs destiny shit, stuff like words of prophets are written on subway walls, like.. idk, something that is intricate-rituals-gay and also makes me think of the philosophy of thehuman condition

corollary: slow burns ig?? or like mutual pining? canon typical thinking they are not worthy or that it is something they cannot have? canon typical did not realize until later but even then they have their individual canon-typical reasons for not acting on it, until they do bc it's fic so they can get together for realsies?

trope: Cas and/or Destiel being parents. I read one recently where it was like single dad Cas (to Claire and Jack) and then Dean came (back) into his life recently and I rly liked it

AUs are fine but highly subject to mood so we'll see. I did read a Star Trek-y AU I liked

I'm down for a lot of various other kinds of plot tropes and stuff, tho I want stuff that's more character and plot and less, like, pwp or fuck or die or that kinda thing

trope: curses maybe? I've found a couple curse-focused fics which were interesting

trope: Hurt/Comfort of the Cas whump kind but not necessarily have to be just Cas. But like.. u know when Uriel is beating him up and he looks all bloody and beautiful, or when he flexes his sexy angel powers and transports the Winchesters to the past but then collapses bc he overtaxed himself, or when he had that blanket on when he was suffering from the attack dog spell.... yeah,,,

trope: Anything with like the Winchesters caring about and caring for Cas. I just rly like Cas being taken care of :') pls wrap him in a blanket and pat his shoulder brusque-softly in ur emotionally repressed way Dean

bottom line my emphasis tends to be more on character and plot. I can't do plot without character, the relationships - whether ship or gen - are important to my enjoyment of a fic. I can sit thru a lot if the characters/character dynamics are good and chewy lmao like u can rly sink ur teeth into it

Bonus features:

eldritch horror angels are a bonus. Give me unfathomable trueform angels, I feel like I don't see that enough

wings* but.... caveat I like my spn wings more metaphysical than literal unless they're literal for a point, but this isn't set in stone either. I'm just... slightly tired of the physicality of the wings I guess. Like it's not the physicality that's the issue, ig, but when it's not treated as metaphysical (as well)

Powerful af Cas?? I miss season 4/5 Cas, when he was powerful and self-assured and wasn't "mentally deficient puppy" as Metatron meanly put it Cas. I feel like we get less of that as the seasons go on... I miss Cas being powerful and exuding energy that I'm sure is what had ppl assigning him as top energy. Like yes flex ur sexy sexy angel powers pls. There's one ep where my notes just say "ANGEL SMITE ANGEL SMITE / HEAAALING." Season 6 Cas where he is more out of touch with humanity and more brusque was also intriguing even tho he was like that bc of extenuating circumstances. But him flexing his sexy angel powers sure was sexy

Human AU* but like asterisk bc I will take human AU if the plot is compelling and/or the characterization still manages to capture that je nais se quoi of canonverse. fics that treat angels like literal physical feathered beings. Idk I just like... want the whole angel thing to be treated more metaphysically. They are multidimensional wavelengths of celestial intent in holy corporate/business attire visages but they are still very much multidimensional wavelengths of celestial intent the ballpark size of our Chrysler building. If the wings are treated too literally I find I start getting bored, ironically. This is ironic bc I'm a slut for wingfic. But with spn I find that a conventional kind of wingfic/angel conception where the wings are just limbs with maybe some slight handwaved dimension-shifting stowing is.. slightly passe for my tastes. Unless it's like a forced manifestation or sth. Just like.. get the metaphysics involved, tie it to angelic grace. Something. Make is racy. But not too racy, the whole wings-as-erogenous-zones thing I'm a bit over too, xenobiology to humans would just be biology to these beings, it doesn't make sense to me to be like "oh they have a tail and it's EXTRA sensitive," like are you suggesting your arm/armpit is an extra special species-typical erogenous zone too?

ehh i’m not gonna comment on our govt too much but like lbr for an fbi agent kyle was really good it was clever stone cold in the pursuit of justice and uhh found it very easy to justify morally questionable deed to me that sounds very but whatever let’s not talk about that! kyle. what he could have been man. the avatars were like fine i guess. a little under fine but they weren’t horrible. but like. as villains. they lacked flavor. like. like they succeeded in creating utopia and then the charmed ones changed their mind and they were like word okay we’ll just come back later like okay? p boring. also talking free will on a show that yammers on about destiny is y’know. it’s like. yeah. but kyle. what he could have been. he could have been Thee antihero he could be that character that you’re always second guessing who to trust and it seems like he never lies but at the same time he only serves his own agenda and he has no respect for the value of human life bc he’s trying to save humanity as a whole like that could have been Something man. but it wasn’t. instead he was a love interest for paige and he wasn’t even a good one at that! like idk if they weren’t gonna give us like a good relationship they could have at least given us a fun one where they both know this is a bad idea and neither of them trusts the other but fuck it they’re going for this anyways bc they’ve got some time to kill like that could have been an option instead of having like paige have full faith in brody and is like ready to go to bat for him no matter what the occasion is like he also kills leo that’s cool i’ll defend him while at the exact same time it feels like kyle doesn’t even trust paige!! like the imbalance is fucked up and also like boring. and also quite frankly they should have just had the avatars kill kyle’s parents if they were gonna keep the two against each other like. tf is the point of having him realize that they didn’t kill his parents but he’s still gonna get em anyways? to prove he’s crazy? trust me we already know. i also can’t believe he was the first dead love interest to turn into a whitelighter ur gonna waste that shit on kyle? shout out to the comics tho for killing him fr like what a year and a half later. that’s like really fuckin funny.

i get that something had to happen to have a conflict bc you don’t have a story if everything goes well all the time but like. it felt like...needless shock value shit. the violence and the helplessness is like. yikes.

pacing feels weird, which considering how well the first game was paced is ???. we cut from that very intense scene and the wind-down in town straight to like...heart to hearts while riding horses...and now there’s a fetch quest for gas and lots of wandering to do...i like exploration games but the push to make this Bigger and more like a Real Game feels kind of like...arbitrary especially considering how tightly and perfectly paced the last one was...

the bit in the synagogue did feel a little bit like a Very Special Episode Where Ellie Learns About The Holocaust. what were they teaching her in those schools?? how can she not know about the holocaust??? i don’t think it was a bad section, i actually really liked it and liked getting to know dina, i just wish it had been done with a subtler touch. it’s like reading fanfic where everyone recites the definition of asexuality just because it happens to include an asexual character

i made a tag game again. i’m bored, procrastinating, and certain we all need some more positivity right now. hell yeah.

- dean winchester (supernatural): i never shut up about his but dean is me y’all. we both be out here, acting like we’re tough when we’re just jelly filled dorks, being nurturing as hell, making jokes to cheer people up, with a constant chip on our shoulders, and secretly just wanting someone to love us and love someone back.

- maria vontrapp (sound of music): i know she’s not technically a fictional character since that’s based on a true story but whatever. you know what i could name everything about her, but i won’t bc who has time for that. basically just fucking listen to the song “maria” from that movie where all the nuns roast her and you’ve basically got my personality wrapped in a bow for you. just an innocent ass train wreck that just wants to love everyone but doesn’t realize that manners are a thing. that song is so me that my family used to sing it at me when i was little and they still do. also when she blows the whistle obnoxiously at the captain and is just like “lol sorry captain didn’t know how i was supposed to address you :)))” super passive aggressively, me.

- tracy samantha lorde (the philadelphia story): okay she’s definitely classier and fancier than me but, the real vulnerable shit underneath all of her grace and beauty is samesies. she basically is so intolerant of people being anything less than perfect because she’s so afraid of people getting close to her and seeing her flaws....cough cough. she keeps everyone at a distance because she doesn’t want to get hurt. lmao.

- lilo (lilo and stitch): another fictional character that my family needed to point out was me at every turn. my older sister and i actually used to say ohana to each other before bed because she was so similar to nani and i’m so similar to lilo and we fight EXACTLY like them. lilo is just a little outcast who, once again, just loves everyone and wants to be seen and loved for who she is, but has such a hard time connecting to people because they don’t understand her and her aggressive way of showing her intense emotions. my mama still calls me lilo sometimes. i have a lilo plushie on my bed and a lilo sticker on my laptop bc i love her and she gets me.

- bright colors, ocean waves, dirty and torn clothing, and wildflowers.

3.) Favorite musical/play? (If you’ve never seen a musical or play, one you’d be interested in seeing?

- into the woods. it was phantom of the opera for most of my childhood and teenage years, but into the woods really just goes after the life metaphors and really makes you think about the difference between right, wrong, and gray areas. like there’s a song about how adventure changes you and makes you view the world differently. there’s another about how somewhere between mundane and perfect is where the best parts of life lie. there’s another all about how important children are and how vital it is that you are careful what you say and do around them. it just goes the fuck off.

4.) What is the best compliment you’ve ever received?

- “you think about the world in ways i never thought were possible”

5.) How many times have you been in love?

- kind of 1? i’ve been into the same person my whole life but i’m constantly debating myself on if unrequited love can count as being in love with someone you’re actually with, if that makes sense?

- when i was little, i secretly wanted to be an actress on broadway, so when i was home alone and would watch movies, i would pick a character in the movie and act out their parts as i watched like a crazy person lol.

- favorite disney movie is lilo and stitch for reasons mostly mentioned in the first question, but the family doesn’t get left behind or forgotten and the outcast is not unloveable they’re just misunderstood messages just send me and really helped baby molly. how obvious is it that i’m a giant sucker for an interesting message?

- black eyed susans. they’re a wild flower with a similar beauty to daisies, but with a little bit of darkness in them.

- christmas biiiiiiitch. it’s the one time of year i’m not worried that my house is haunted and i get to sing all the time and people don’t find it weird or annoying. the snow is not the best but everything else makes up for it.

- when i was laying in the grass today, a little tiny robin hopped over to me and whistled at me and it was a magical experience

- i realized i only have 3 more weeks of school until this hell semester is over

- i am currently working on my masters degree in special education for elementary school ages. i will probably go back and get a second masters in school counseling to help students with special needs who are in traumatic situations or are mistreated at home.

- my emotional support outfit as my friends call it is my toy story pajama pants with my guiness sweatshirt from ireland

he fell in love with that kind of fighting, the carefree brawls where he always came out on top, and used them as a way to prove himself

but now he understands fighting at another level entirely, where his life really is in danger, and the stakes are higher than he’d previously imagined they could be. this isn’t about territory or revenge, he’s been saving lives

and he loves it, and so does this random stranger he’s ended up fighting

of course chu comes back as an ally later

I read a theory online that kuwabara used to be friends with keiko and yusuke when they were all little, and it has totally changed the way I see it whenever these two interact.

kuwabra genuinely tries to explain this fighter’s mindset to a noncombatant. he is a good, patient boy

Girl’s Day

Rating: T, Mentions of drinking and sex

Pairings: FemMC x Estela, Michelle x Quinn, Zahra x Craig, Grace x Aleister, Diego x Raj, Sean x Jake (platonically but could be viewed as romantic)

Summary: The girls of the Endless Summer gang have a girl’s day together (also has a character cameo from a diff book 👀)

Author’s Note: In honor of Endless Summer coming back from war. This takes place when they all eventually get off the island and save the world. No angst bc there’s already enough of that just fun fluff

“I can’t believe I got roped into this.”

“Oh come on, Zahra, it’ll be fun,” Quinn said excitedly.

“Seat belt babe,” Michelle told Quinn sternly but softly.

“Yeah, Z, it’ll be fun and relaxing,” MC grinned as she turned to face Zahra from her passenger seat. “You have the directions pulled up right?” She directed that question towards Estela. She nods quietly as she pulls off from the driveway.

“Whatever, at least I have the back row all to myself,” Zahra mumbles as she stretches out.

“Where are we going first Michelle?” Grace asks the girl beside her.

“Well, we’re going to the mall to shop for a while, then we’re gonna go for some brunch just like I promised before. We’ll go to the spa afterwards near the mall. Finally, we’re gonna go back to Sean and Craig’s apartment to get dressed for cluuuuuubbbbiiinnnggg,” Michelle answered animatedly while singing the last part.

“So that’s why you texted us to bring a club dress to their apartment,” Estela said quietly.

“Ooooo that looks great on you Grace.”

“You really think so, Quinn?” Grace asked timidly. The girls were shopping for dresses in the mini boutique at the mall, minus Estela and Zahra, who looked bored out of their minds.

“Yes, it looks great. Now can we move along now?” Zahra asked exasperatedly.

“Hold on, I have to choose between these three outfits,” MC told her, then directed her attention to Estela, “Estela, which one looked better on me?”

Estela looked up from her phone and studied the outfits closely. “The red one,” she replied before going back to her phone.

MC shrugged then stowed the other two outfits away. “Alright I’m done. Let’s go pay for these.” Grace, Michelle, Quinn, and MC went to pay for the clothes while the other two waited for them. Afterwards, MC and Quinn dragged their blushing girlfriends to Victoria’s Secret with Grace and Zahra silently chuckling at them.

“You should totally get this for yourself Grace,” Michelle holds up a matching bra and panties set and Grace blushes. “Plus, imagine Aleister’s reaction to it. Poor guy won’t even speak coherently once he sees you.”

“I-I’ll think about it,” Grace replies.

“Don’t buy it just for Aleister though. You are a strong, intelligent, and sexy woman all on your own. If you want to buy it, buy it because you want to,” Michelle added. Grace’s face changed into a look of confidence and took the set in her arms.

“Alright let’s go and pay before Zahra dies of boredom in this place,” MC giggles as she glanced over to said person, who’s half asleep on the bench. Estela wakes her up and the girls go to Gamestop, upon Zahra’s request of course.

“Now this is more my style,” Zahra grins as she quickly enters the store like a kid in a candy shop. “No way! They have the new expansion for Aeternum Chronicles: Legend of the 7 Crystals! Craig’s gonna freak when I buy this for him.”

“Aww that’s so sweet,” Quinn stated, then looked at Michelle, “We should get into playing video games too.”

Michelle and Zahra laugh, as if it’s a joke. “Yeah, I don’t think that’s a good idea, sweets. Me and video games don’t mesh well.”

“I can verify that. She was playing with me and Grace and killed both of us and then herself,” Zahra snorts as Grace giggles and nods, confirming the story.

On the other side of the store, Estela is browsing the video games with MC behind her. “Isn’t this your favorite one babe?” MC asked Estela as she reached for the game and handed to her.

“Hmmm. I didn’t realize they released a new Assassin’s Creed game yet,” Estela said as she inspected the game.

MC took the opportunity to wrap her arms around Estela from behind, holding her close. “Y’know, watching you play that game turns me on a bit. Imagining you as Ezio or Desmond is hot,” she whispered into Estela’s ear.

Estela blushed a deep red and turned slightly to meet MC’s gaze. “Good to know.” She kissed MC’s cheek.

“Hey lovebirds, let’s go! We’re all done here,” Michelle said, interrupting them. They all quickly pay for their things and made it out to the parking lot to go to eat brunch.

“So, Estela, in honor of your first time having brunch, I’m gonna take you to my favorite place ever,” Michelle said as everyone got out of the car. They walked into the restaurant, and Michelle was immediately greeted by the waiter, Daniel. He led them all to their seats and pulled out menus for them all.

“So what does one eat for brunch?” Estela asked, a bit confused. MC mentally awwed at her face.

“I usually get something sweet,” Quinn replied, “Like something I would eat for breakfast like a cinnamon roll or a strawberry crepe.”

“I just want a sammich,” Zahra says bluntly.

“I guess I’ll get the sandwich,” Estela mumbled. “What are you getting MC?”

“I’ll just go with a small salad,” she shrugged. The girls gave their orders to Daniel and carried on with their conversation.

“But seriously it sucks that we all had to be held back a year because of that trip,” Michelle said. “It already takes long enough to become a neural surgeon regularly, now I have to double down the effort,” she groans.

“I’m sure you’ll do great,” Quinn replies, kissing her girlfriend’s cheek. “After we graduate, I’m gonna open up a bakery just like I said I would and everyone’s invited for free desserts.”

“Oooo yes! Score!” Zahra exclaimed. Everyone looked at her amusedly. “What? The girl makes good pastries.”

“What are the rest of you girls doing after you graduate?” MC asked the remaining girls.

“I’ll probably work for my mother’s company or help Aleister rebuild Rourke Industries,” Grace replied happily. “After coming home, I flew out and had a long talk with my mom and we’re finally on good terms again.” The girls gave out congratulations to her while she beamed.

“I don’t know what I’m doing yet. Maybe start my own tech company or something. Or get into the esports scene,” Zahra shrugged. “What’re your and Estela’s plans?”

“I don’t know. After all the shit we’ve been through on that island, I just want to lay low for a while,” MC answered truthfully. The girls silently agreed on that, knowing that MC experienced a lot more worse things than them. “Maybe become a private investigator or a journalist or something.”

“I think I’m gonna go into law school,” Estela said. “There’s this pro bono firm I’ve been looking to intern in.”

“A PI and badass lawyer? Remember me when you guys become the new legal power couple.” The girls laughed at Zahra’s comment before Daniel came back with all their food. They carried on to less serious conversations while they ate. After they finished, they all went back to the car and drove to the spa place.

“Now remember, MC, Zahra, no eating the cucumbers,” Michelle told them as they entered the building. The said girls glared at her while the others giggled silently. “Reservations under Nguyen. Party of six please,” she told the hostess. They were all led inside the spa place and went off to do whatever they wanted.

“Thanks for booking this place, Michelle, I already feel relaxed,” Grace said happily.

“No problem, Gracie. I wanted to treat all of us like queens for a few hours,” Michelle replied as she wrapped her hair up. “Now if you’ll excuse me, there’s a sauna calling for me with Quinn in it,” she smirked as she walked towards the sauna.

“Aye no fucking in the sauna!” MC called out, getting the attention from the other customers. They all glared at her while she blushed embarrassingly. “Oops, probably shouldn’t have said that out loud.”

Grace chuckled, “C’mon, let’s go get our nails and hair done before you embarrass yourself further.” She dragged a still flustered MC away from the main room and into the side salon room.

Meanwhile, Zahra and Estela were getting massages together, getting their muscles relaxed. “Sooo,” Zahra said, trying to start up a conversation.

“Yes?” Estela replied.

“Can you like, teach me all your combat moves and stuff? Cause you’re seriously badass and I wanna learn.”

“Sure, if you teach me how to hack. I’ve been wanting to learn… for reasons.”

“Yeah, sweet,” Zahra grinned. Their masseuses looked up at each other and silently made alarmed faces, but shrugged at each other and didn’t say anything before going back to their jobs.

After a few hours later, the girls finished all their treatments up. MC had lost rocks, papers, scissors between the four of them and had to pull Quinn and Michelle out of the sauna. She looked mortified after they all left and told the other three girls, “I can never unsee what I saw,” and, “you guys owe me so much.” Grace and Zahra doubled over laughing while Estela patted MC’s back comfortably. Michelle blushed as red as a tomato while Quinn looked smug and satisfied. They all piled up in the car again and went back to Sean and Craig’s apartment. The guys were all there playing poker.

“Hey, you girls want to join in for a few rounds?” Diego grinned as he held out a beer.

“You might not want to, cause I’m on a winning streak,” Jake smirked. The whole gang was able to clear Jake’s name after returning to the U.S and reunite him with his family.

“It’s just luck,” Sean grumbled.

“Well if it’s luck, does that includes getting lucky with you, Steve Rogers?”

Raj does a spit take all over the table, choking out hearing Jake’s statement. Diego is right behind him in a quick stride, patting his boyfriend’s back. “Deep breaths, babe.”

“What did I say about getting a room you two?” Aleister said, annoyed.

“Annnnyyyyways… we’ll have to take a rain check on this lovely poker night. The girls and I gotta get dressed to go clubbing,” Michelle interrupted. She dragged the girls into Craig’s room and pulled the outfits out of the closet. “Well thank god Craig doesn’t use his closet and just leaves his clothes everywhere.”

“Speak for yourself, you know how hard it is to get it on when you’re tripping over everything?” Zahra snarked. MC laughed as she helped Michelle with the clothes. They laid and handed out the outfits.

“Alright, Quinn and I are on make-up and Grace will do hair. No offense to you girls MC, Estela, and Zahra, but you girls couldn’t tell a make-up brush to a broom,” Michelle stated. While MC looked offended, Estela and Zahra looked at each other and shrugged, silently agreeing. “The bathroom’s across the hall and Sean’s room is the next door. Let’s take turns getting dressed and glammed up and then wow the boys with our looks.”

When they all finished dressing, Michelle and Quinn put the final adjustments on Grace and Zahra while MC and Estela put the final adjustments on each other’s outfits. Estela and Zahra didn’t want to hassle and wear a dress and donned jeans and a bomber jacket for Estela and a leather one for Zahra. Michelle and Quinn wore semi-matching short blue dresses. Grace wore a yellow jumpsuit while MC wore her LBD. “Alright ladies, we are ready so let’s go and give these boys a run for their money,” Michelle said as she clapped her hands.

The girls walked out of Craig’s room and into the living area where the boys were playing Mortal Kombat. Craig was up against Aleister while the others cheered them on until Diego spotted the girls. “Well you girls look muy fuego!” he exclaimed.

Raj turned to look at the girls and Diego, pouting. “Hey, I’m feeling a little jealous here.”

“I’m gay, not blind Raj,” Diego said then pecked him on the lips before getting off of the arm of the sofa. “Have fun ladies, but not too much fun. I don’t want to get a call from MC saying that you’re all in the middle of skinny dipping in a fountain.” Aleister and Craig dropped their controllers and turned around. Once they saw their respective girlfriends, their jaws dropped to the floor.

Craig climbed over the back of the couch- but tripped and face planted- got back up and rushed over to Zahra. “Can boyfriends be invited to clubbing as well? You look frickin great.”

“Keep it in your pants Hsiao. We’ll be back at a reasonable hour so we won’t deprive you of our beauty. C’mon ladies, let’s go have some fun!”

Aleister caught Grace before she left through the door. “Ahem, have fun and be careful, sweetheart.”

Grace kissed him on the cheek, “I will. Have fun with the guys.” She heard a scoff and a faint ‘not likely’ before she smiled and walked out.

“Have fun girls! I’ll be sure to have Steve Rogers and me decent before you come back!” Jake called out. Sean blushed and hit him on the shoulder.

“I want shots!” MC yelled over the booming music. “C’mon Michelle, come get them with me.” MC dragged Michelle off to the bar while the others found a table.

Michelle was trying to keep up with MC, but she ran into someone roughly.

“Excuse you!” “Watch where you’re going!”

“Wait… Becca! Hey, I haven’t seen you around Hartfeld,” Michelle exclaimed.

“Meech! Oh my god, I haven’t seen you in awhile either! How’s it going? Was your trip fun?” Becca smiled at her.

“Umm, it was very adventurous I’ll say that,” Michelle replied. “I’m doing good, pre-med is still kicking my ass. I heard you left the sorority. What happened?”

“I went through some troubles the past year and my own damn pride made me a total bitch to Madison. I left it because I couldn’t afford the membership but I’m happy to say that everything’s alright now.”

“Well, that’s great. I have to go to help my friend carry the drinks, but we should hang out sometime. I have a new phone so do you mind giving me your number again?” Michelle took out her phone as Becca shook her head. She put her number in the phone and gave it back. Once they exchanged goodbyes, Michelle walked over and helped MC carry the trays of shot glasses.

“So, who was the blonde?”

“An old sister at my sorority. She was one of the few sisters I actually held in high regard for and confided in. We were thought of as total bitches but we didn’t care- we grounded each other.”

“I’m glad she was there for you,” MC said. They walked over to the table where the rest of the girls were and laid out the glasses. “Alright, five glasses for each. Let’s get hammered tonight!” The girls cheered and downed their glasses. Everyone, except for Estela and Zahra, felt slightly buzzed by the time they finished the shots and a drink of their own.

After most of them were tipsy, Quinn dragged all of the girls, Zahra reluctantly, onto the dancefloor. Grace laughed as Quinn attempted to twerk on Michelle, who looked equally happy and embarrassed. Zahra disappeared somewhere amongst the crowd and dragged Grace with her.

MC and Estela were dancing at their own pace until a sensual song played. MC decided to be bold and turned around to grind on Estela. She heard Estela have a sharp intake of breath and smirked. Estela held onto MC’s hips as they continued to dance. After a few seconds, MC felt Estela’s lips on her neck and gasped. They weren’t always the ones who showed PDA, but as of right now, both of them didn’t care.

“If it weren’t for the other girls, we’d be catching a car back to your apartment,” MC said breathlessly.

“Well thank god we are because I am not letting you girls get kicked out for public indecency.” Michelle butted in.

Estela immediately removed her hand from the front of MC’s pants and blushed. MC faced Michelle and Quinn, who were smirking at the blushing couple. “Uhh we got a little carried away?”

“Right,” Quinn giggled, “Meech and I were wondering if you’ve seen Zahra and Grace? We haven’t seen them for awhile now.”

“Eh, we shouldn’t worry about them that much. I mean, how much trouble can they get in?” MC shrugged.

“Apparently a lot since they appear to be getting kicked out,” Estela pointed out in the direction of the door. Sure enough, the bouncers were escorting a smug Zahra and a worrisome Grace out the door.

“Guess we have to cut this girls’ night out short,” Michelle pouted. The girls walked over toward the door and followed Zahra and Grace out. “What happened?”

“We were on our way to the restroom when this dude came onto Grace. He was really drunk and wasn’t taking no for an answer. When he grabbed Grace, I reacted and punched him in the face. Really wished I kicked him in the balls instead because his face hurt my hand,” Zahra explained.

“Oh my god, are you ok, Grace, Zahra?” Quinn asked as she inspected said girls for any bad injuries.

“Yeah, we’re fine. I’m just glad Zahra was there to help me out.”

“Eh, it’s no problem. Support your local girl gang, or whatever the hell Quinn said about sticking together,” Zahra shrugged.

“Well, let’s go back to the guys’ apartment and we can crash in my apartment since it’s right next to theirs,” Grace said. The girls nodded and took two separate Ubers home since all of them couldn’t fit in one. Once they got back to the apartment, Grace ushered them in to hers. “We can raid the guys’ for their food. I was supposed to go shopping for food tomorrow.”

“Sweet, Craig has a cheese puff stash and I know where it is,” Zahra grinned. The girls went over to Sean and Craig’s apartment and found that the guys were already asleep. “Pshh, what a couple of old men.” Diego was on Raj’s lap cuddled into his neck while Craig and Aleister were asleep on the floor. Jake had his head rested on Sean’s shoulder from their place on the couch, whether that it was intentional or not, they’ll never know.

The girls raided their refrigerator while Zahra took the cheese puffs. They quickly dipped out of there and carried out the food back to Grace’s apartment. The girls stayed up watching movies and talking until the wee hours of morning until they all crashed.

The last thing Michelle thought as she looked around the sleeping girls was Best Family Ever.

generally the whole civil war thing was just so??? odd and nonsensical. on the one side you have tony stark, who consistently refused to hand over his super suit or be put in check by the government, suddenly calling for superheroes to be put in check; on the other hand, you have steve rogers who experienced that the us government cannot be trusted in tws suddenly believing that the us government will make things right again or something??? you have tony trying to guilt trip steve into agreeing to those accords by basically holding a gun to bucky’s head; you have tony suddenly trying to murder someone who was so obviously brainwashed and coerced into killing tony’s parents; the movie also tries really hard to go the “uwu generous tony stark” route but really, all i see is him giving to those mit graduates while there are SO many others who would need it more

all the random characters missing things... like.... ant man suddenly showing up in civil war but then never again. clint being here and gone the next moment toothor conveniently always off planet due to uhh bifrost problems?? him not wanting to come??sidekicks showing up in one movie but then not in the next bc they’re suddenly busy or something???

and alsoooooo the movies are all starting to be... pretty much the same. exchangeable hero with their loyal sidekick are having a good time, but oh no, a Bad appears, the hero is disgraced / fallen for a while, then stands back up because they are a Hero. the message is Be A White Man, the jokes are standard Tough Male Comedy. there is at least one character characterized by either Boobs, Ass or Sex Scene To Introduce Boobs Wearing Character

also i mean there are my personal issues on why tony stark and all his grandeur and grand gestures actually mean shit but that’s kinda personal and i don’t wanna get into that

so there you have my off the top of my head criticism of marvel - racism, sexism, inconsistent and boring writing, inconsistent characterization, no character development, constantly making wild reaches for plot lines

Honey is a menace, yeh, I couldn’t love him more,jajajaja. He can’t see me petting Liam, he gets jealous and comes to me and headbutt my hand so I pet him too. And Liam is so patient with him. They’re totally like liam and Louis, jajja. Hey! did I tell you the story about when I got Liam? no!! Well, someone gave my dad 4 kitties (they were sooooo small). So, guess their names (it was post March 25, 2015…) yes!! They were named (by me) Louis, Niall, Harry and Liam, jajajajajja. But Harry died a couple of days later, because he was really really young. He couldn’t survive without his mom ☹️. And the other three, my dad took them to a place we have were he has a little garden (?) with vegetables and chickens and proper farm-y, jejeje. I wasn’t too (any) into cats back then, so… Then he brought home one of them, to have our home free of mice. AND IT WAS LIAM!! And I adopted him. I took care of him. We started loving each other. And he became useless with mice, jajaja. He’s totally domesticated now 😝. And that’s his story. The rest? Louis became a big alpha male at their new home. But s car ran him over last summer, and he died 😔. And Niall is a female, jajajajaa. And I hate her. Because she hasn’t been able to keep her kitties alive once!! (She’s pregame again, and we’re praying this time she knows who to be a mom🙏🏻) Ah!! And Honey had siblings the other day!! The guy who gave it to my dad is my brother’s friend and he show him a pic. It will be considered a massive destruction weapon, so he better be careful. But god, for real, when will Louis and Liam release their albums. At this pace, Harry and Niall will be releasing their second one before LiLo has finished their respective tours. And when they finish, Narry will have release their second one, and will be promoting them. So Lilo will start working in their seconds one. And… and… AND ONE DIRECTION WON’T COME BACK EVER BECAUSE THEY CAN FIX A DATE WHERE ALL OF THE BOYS HAVE NOTHING TO DO, AND WHAT WILL I DO??? 😭😭😭😭😭 (sorry, I panicked a bit there,oops).

Random Arrow thoughts

Ok, I'm freaking out a little bit... Someone, pinch me... IS THIS REAL?! This episode of Arrow came straight out of fanfiction. It is too good to be true... yet it is... true... I am overwhelmed and befuddled and feel like a lost puppy right now. Because in this season (especially in 6x03 and6x04), Arrow is apparently, granting wishes and many fantasies of mine have become canon. No one has ever preparedme for this, this is why I'm freaking out, cuz what's next?!...

I know that the other shoe is gonna drop soon enough, and this bliss cannot last forever, that's just the way TVland works, and also, it's Arrow, our heroes can never be absolutely happy for too long, there has to be conflict to further the story along. And the formula is simple - the happier it is in the beginning, the worse it's gonna be later (before it gets better again). So I do know I have to prepare myself for the shit that's about to hit Olicity in a few episodes, probably after the crossover.

Anyhow, going back to 6x04, here are some of my thoughts during this episode..

- It should have been named "Let's get it on..." instead, LOL. How many times did they try to have desert and were interrupted?! Blue balls won't look good on Oliver, Arrow, have mercy!

- The episode opened with a "date", or more like a hookup, BS style. I gotta say, I liked the wig. Blonde Laurel looks like a bitch, brunette Laurel looks wickedly nefarious. I liked that, but why did she need a wig at all, this puzzled me? Or does she think, she looks more attractive to men with dark hair?! What was the purpose of that wig? Not to be recognized?! Well, then she kills people left and right with blond hair, so that's not it, right?!... Oh, I get it... KC wore the wig for the element of surprise, so the fanboys would guess her by her back and pee their pants happy that their beloved BS is back (or should I say, KC is back, cuz their fascination with her, that I will never understand, has become like a cult following). Anyways, this is done for one purpose alone. BS always likes to make a scene with her entrance (yes, she's a bit of an attention whore, didn't you know?!), this time they figured a wig will do the job for her as a "surprise" element. Whatever...

Arrow is already being redundant with BS, considering she's not even close to being the main villain, has no agency of her own and is just another mercenary for hire. As the guys from Slander Ent. pointed out, she's a glorified lackey. Arrow hyped KC's return to Arrow as a villain, so much, but the pay off doesn't match the hype so far. BS's storyline resembles that of LL already. Either give her some interesting storyline, or get rid of her like you did with Laurel. I liked BS at first, but the more I watch her (and as often as I watch her), the more she starts to suck, because there's no moving forward with her story, she becomes a stale character, just like LL had become, before they had to kill her off. Though, in this episode she didn't suck that much, and her fighting improved (though it was Katie's double who gets the credit, the fight scenes were so darkened out, so you cannot tell the double and the actual actor apart, but it was still too obvious Arrow, you cannot fool me). I feel like I have to make my peace with BS the way she is and not expect her to progress. She's here as an eye candy for the fanboys, a consolation prize anyways. But as she still is a small part of Arrow's overall story, I would expect the show to have learnt their mistakes with Laurel (and KC) from the first time around, and not repeat them with BS.

- Oliver and Felicity's date... I think now I know why Felicity calls BS "evil Laurel", because of her timing. Girl, couldn't you murder that poor sap some other time? William picked out the tie and wanted to go to dinner with Felicity, too... Awww, that's so adorable. And yep, the mini-Oliver totally has a crush on his father's girl. I love the relationship Arrow is building between the three of them! Oliver remembering that it's been three years since they had their first date... Squeee!!! "Don't jinx it!" LOL.

You know, I like that Oliver is still a bit nervous on their date. It's a good kind of nervous. He talks about not having been ready for their relationship then, not like he is now. This tells me that he knows, and knew back then too, that this is it, Felicity is "it" - the love of his life. So yeah, he is nervous in a "anticipating something wonderful in your life"-kind of way. Plus, that gorgeous woman is in front of him being all adorable and super sexy. But the status of their relationship is still unconfirmed. He looks at her for answer when the lady asks if they are back together. And Felicity got "the hint", called herself the mayor's girlfriend. It's for us to hear and for the Olicity haters. They are back together, so stop asking the stupid question, m'kay?! Get over it! There's also calmness to Oliver that I love. He's matured, more grounded. I cannot believe how much he's grown as a person. Adrian Chase was one heck of a therapist, LOL.

That nice lady was us, for sure. While she was fangirling over Olicity, I thought it would be funny if the news came out that Mayor Handsome and Miss Felicity Smoak are back together, with a poll attached to it, vote yes or no. LOL Star City ships Olicity. Also, why isn't there a man patting Oliver's shoulder and whispering "Good job on getting your girl back, son!"?!

- Oliver understanding how it was for Felicity when he had to bail on her and was "dangling maybies"... Now you know Oliver. It sucked! And I think he felt kind of alone and bored and useless, while his woman was neck deep in Arrow business and he just had to let her go, do her stuff. I think that is what got to Oliver the most - not being able to be a part of the thing that brought them together in the first place. That's how they met, how they've gotten closer and fell in love - because of Arrow business. And Oliver not only renounced that part of himself, he also renounced the part that allowed them to connect and was the major part of their relationship, it's basis. In S4 we saw how Felicity was struggling to live a "normal" life without Arrow business. She missed that part of her life, that's why they returned to Star City and stayed. Now it's Oliver's turn to be sidelined. He liked living in Ivy Town (on the surface), but after last year's crossover, Oliver realized that his life could be happy without being the Green Arrow, but it will never be full. This season he had to give up the hood again. Except now it's not because he wanted to, it was a sacrifice for the sake of his son. 6x04 showed how much Oliver actually misses being the GA, the action and being usefull, already!

Now, putting a mask on and chasing Felicity in the club, or helping Slade-cockblocker-Wilson... how is it different than being an active member of the team?! I don't get the logic of this. If you're out, you're out, Oliver. No exceptions. He could as well get killed on the mission with Slade, then little William will be the one saying "told you so!". Agrhhh...

- Those kisses... I love those smooches. Felicity, please kiss Oliver more like that! It's super adorable!

- I don't trust Alena. At all. Even after she was shot and was all cozy and friendly with Felicity, I still don't trust the girl. Look, she is responsible for an Argus agent being horribly murdered. And her reaction to that death was telling not nice things about the kind of person she is... Plus, she represents Felicity's past life, a rather dark past. I don't want a constant reminder of that on the show, in small doses Alena is ok, but not as a permanent fixture. Plus, this whole "breaking internet" thing was a set up by Cayden James, so it's obvious that either he gave Alena that shiner and told her to get Felicity involved, or he knew that if Alena smells trouble, she'd go to Felicity for help. And either way, she's a pawn in his game. I feel like if Alena isn't working for Cayden, and she actually is clean, she's still a redundant character, because she doesn't bring to the show any new skill or ability that isn't already an atribute of another character. So why keep her then?! "I thought you wanted to change the world, and look where you ended up..." I loved this burn! Why did Felicity apologize for telling the truth?! Also, this line reminded me of when paralyzed Felicity was hallucinating Goth Felicity. Goth Felicity said the exact same thing to her "you wanted to change the world, look where it got you..." This Alena character reminds me of that Goth Felicity, but not in a good way. I really hope she won't drag Felicity back to old hacktivist habits.

- Why doesn't KC wear her hair up in a ponytail more?! It actually looked nice, certainly nicer than her usual hair down over one shoulder. She calls herself "Dinah", so why does the team insist on calling her "evil Laurel"?! Call her evil Dinah then, she's here as a counterpart of the new BC anyhow, not of dead Laurel. This show has too many Dinahs with same abilities, it's ridiculous, Arrow!

- Felicity spent more than half of the episode in that gorgeous red dress. She looked so out of place in it in that club, and I loved it. It was very funny.

- Felicity should have asked for a backup while going to the club. Or at least telling her team where she's at. It was irresponsible. And later at Helix, almost got herself and Alena killed. Granted, she couldn't have known that it would be so dangerous, but still, she's going after someone who plans on killing hundreds of millions of ppl, gotta think smarter, girl. I get why she would feel guilty. Not only she let out Cayden James, but after Havenrock, if CJ manages to kill so many people, she would feel that it's on her, too.

- I loved Oliver's pep talk. Last episode it was with Diggle, now with Felicity. They both helped Oliver to become the GA. And all that effort is now for nothing, eh Oliver?! Where the hell did Felicity get the idea that Oliver was doing it all by himself?! He never did, well... he tried, but he never succeeded. He was killing ppl, until you and John set him straight (and Tommy's death, too), he was a crappy brother most of the time, super crappy CEO, failed as a boyfriend and a fiance, etc... So let's not pretend that Oliver wasn't a screw up just cuz he got his act together this season, okay Arrow?!

- Helix Dynamics... Nope, not liking it. I got an immediate recall of Fringe's Massive Dynamics,tbh. Plus the name Helix is rooted in Felicity's old life. Also, the name sounds rather ominous, like Kord Industries, where they make all kinds of dangerous stuff that bad guys later steal. I hope Felicity will rename the company, it doesn't roll off the tongue right.

- Michael freaking Emerson is amazing!!! I certainly got an evil Finch vibe from Cayden James. God, he's a cold motherfucker. I do not believe that he "changed" because of Argus keeping him locked in a shipping container. Argus locked him up for a reason, I wanna know what that reason is. He must have done something very very bad to earn such treatment. Lyla isn't Amanda Waller. I would love for papa Smoak to come back and have a hack off paired with Felicity vs CJ. It would be awesome. Also, I had an idea that Felicity will probably go to jail for hacking the vault's firewall (and probably, other crimes too), and Noah might take the fall and go to jail instead of her. It's the only way I see to redeem an absentee father like Noah.

Or Felicity will have to hide and lead a reclusive life until she figures out a way to clear her name with the FBI. Or she's gonna be recruited by the FBI. Either way, it would be interesting storyline and I wonder how it will affect her relationship with Oliver. I have a feeling Arrow might do something similar to what Smallville did with Chloe's character - her leaving the team and just disappearing. Felicity might be forced to do the same. And it won't be Arrow breaking Olicity up, just separating them for a while. Cuz it's Arrow and they can't let Olicity be happy on the background all the time...

If we are correct, then Olicity is gonna get married in the LOT crossover episode. If so, then won't marital privilege kick in then?! Oliver cannot testify against his wife, nor she against him...

- I really hate it when a side character is pointing out an obvious thing that all the fans have figured out long ago, yet the main character haven't got a clue about... I'm talking about Alena pointing out that Felicity should use her chip as an idea for helping people and get her company started. We've been cultivating this idea for 1.5 years, come on, Felicity...

- WTF is Arclight?! Damien's dome was called an Arc, right?! Maybe CJ was working for DD back then when the Arc was being built, and that's why Argus locked him up?! "Arclight" does sound like a cult thing, LOL. And Darkh's zombie population did look like cult followers...

- Loved all the grunting while Oliver dropped on the couch with hands full of Felicity!!! And the ass grabbing, and her hand sliding to his front... This new time slot is paying off bit by bit. Slade cockblocking them was not cool, Arrow!

- Did anyone else have a thought that Diggle's drugs might be provided by Cayden as well? He set up a trap for Felicity in today's episode, Diggle will probably become addicted to that drug, and will be off the team as well. Could be, Cayden will be picking all the team members one by one?

- The only thing, missing from this episode, was the repeat of the glorious line "It feels really good having you inside me...". It was such a right episode with a perfectly set up circumstances to bring that line back. Arrow, how could you miss this opportunity to remind us of such perfect comedic Olicity moment?

- Loved Oliver on the comms. He looked absolutely out of place behind Felicity's computers, but that was the point, and I loved it. The learning curve and the funny Oliver, loved every second of that scene.

This was a very good, solid episode. The reversal worked perfectly. One of my favorites of all Arrow episodes!! This season is gonna be so AWESOME!!!

i think a better way is just to say male meiko??? idk, i see alot of discourse around changing characterd genders :/

mmm i actually have started to refer to those specific edits as ‘♂designs’ if that’s okay???? but i like to keep the character names bc u don’t want some random male design of a character popping up in the original characters tag or smth u know what i mean???

however, the edits i use (and may- in regards to luki) are basically our own fan-’developed’ (for lack of a better word- bc we didn’t create the names) characters at this point, i don’t personally really consider them ♂ designs myself anymore but more so…. like just siblings of the original characters in a way??? so i mean i.. still kind of want to call ‘male meiko’ (to)meito…….. because he’s seemingly his own developed character now rather that just….. supposedly the male design of meiko

yknow what i’m saying? it’s basically an OC that started out intially as an alternate design (but is not really an OC idk how to explain im dumb)

though with that said, this is like only applicable to meito kaiko and luki who started out as alternative designs but evolved to their own separated characters the more i tweaked them?? idk how to word it properly, but idk, i know personally i no longer consider them as what they intially were, just fan-made siblings lelelel

but ya like i said, my other alternate edits i have updated their descriptions referring them as “♂ designs” so i hope that’s okay…… because those were literally what they were…… they don’t really have any background i was just bored and wanted to experiment with more masculine faces (even tho they’re all pretty feminine) but i guess if i were to add more story, change em up a bit- i think i could pull them off as actual vocaloid-spliced-OCs (since mayuto didn’t really properly exist until i named him that randomly neither did merlinite like who tf is merlinite) but i ain’t doin that cus im lazy

i also am aware of like the whole discourse stuff which is why i took a step back in the first place because i don’t want to like….. offend anyone or anything since i’m not like super educated on things and i can be ignorant (no offence to me but i’m dumb as shit) and get into some kind of not-fun event, especially now that i’m older??? like i ain’t got that much time left, i just wan hav fun and post stuff that people might enjoy because i enjoy it too!!

THE MANY, DIFFERENT FACES AND VOICES OF UNCLE PHIL

UNCLE PHIL, CHURCH OF AQUARIUS, BORN WINNER...Personas or caricatures from the mind of Phil Osborne . Phil is a musician, artist, film maker, animator, and general renaissance man. His music and art all come from the same world, it’s Gremlins meets Carpenter meets Pee Wee’s Playhouse meets Monty Python meets Uncle Phil. Phil lived inside this world in his Monster Party Galleries (1&2) in Victoria BC and now he is living in Montréal. Here we talk about his Church of Aquarius album Obliged with Tact and Etiquette::::

“I think there's as much truth, if not more truth in something comedic.”

When/where did you start recording Obliged with Tact and Etiquette?

I started writing and recording material for it in the summer of 2012. I went to Victoria BC to visit some friends and wrote the first song, high as a kite, out of nowhere to make my friends laugh, a sort of fake british psychedelic pop song. I was trying to sound like monty python trying to be early pink floyd. I recorded a simple demo of it and everyone loved it.

After I had that first song done, I started thinking i should do a whole album as an homage to all things british i love. Music with that sensibility I love so much, pipers at the gates of dawn and syd barrett are the main influence, the beatles too of course. The voice I use is pretty much my impression of the Jeremy Hillary boob phd character in yellow submarine. I threw in some fake Shakespeare in humbug,your majesty, I even put a tea brake in the middle of that song.

Over the next 4 years, I wrote lots of music for it. I re-recorded some of the songs more than 3 times to get it just right. I also got help from my friend Leigh Newton ( daiquiri, major entertainer, the sun through a telescope,world war 4 ect..). he’s an amazing musician and can play everything. He re-did high as a kite his way and gave it more kick. I released that as the 7 inch with the b side sung in french.

So OWTAE is your “British” album?

Besides the brit stuff, the music from the quebecois tv show passe partout is another one it's like folk and electronic. Pierre f. brault wrote the tunes. I rediscovered the show and the records and the whole thing is serious genius. Plains of Avadoon is a tip of the hat to them.

Are the stories told on this album true stories or is it all fictional?

They are all a bit autobiographical. I used the feeling of being 19, lost and stoned as a guide for some of the songs. Going to see the magician is about those nights I spent with a friend as we walked across town or drove to go see this drug dealer ( the magician ). We always had to avoid running into police in my small town of Gatineau, they are insane and can easily stop you for no reason (watch out, there's pigs in the dark..) Past the train tracks and the tombstone sea is about the secret passage i use to go to my parents house, a path i have walked so many times since i was a teen.

Would you say OWTAE is a comedy album first and foremost or does that even matter?

I tried to keep all the songs in a good mood. It's supposed to be an upper. If it makes someone laugh and smile, it's a good thing.

Is music too self serious right now?

i think there's as much truth, if not more truth in something comedic. Something serious can often make you laugh anyway, so is there really a difference? As for bands being too serious, let's be more specific and describe them as bands that aren't trying to get laughter as a response. That's definetly the popular approach out there and it gets stale after awhile. We need a bit more wackyness in our music. At least some contrast, damn it! I want to hear different moods in a bands set. i don't want the same song 12 times, and upping the tempo ain't good enough. Do a dumb song and follow it up with a sad country tune. Why not? Aren't we all kind of moody people? Sad on Tuesday morning, wacky on Wednesday night?

Amen. So then how do you decide if something is an Uncle Phil/Church Of Aquarius/Born Winner recording?

At first i couldn't decide on a name for my music since it was just a crazy mix of styles with 60s to 90s influences. I just called it Uncle Phil, real simple. Then I decided to split my influences in half : church of aquarius for all things 60s and 70s, born winner for all things 80s and 90s. I'm gonna use the uncle phil music name as the music publishing name just for fun instead.

Are these characters you or do you always write music in character?

I'm not even sure there's a difference. I end up doing so many takes of the songs, I live the stories and I become one with the characters. It's serious shit, yo.

But does your music and video and artwork more or less exist in the same world?

i like to think it doesn't. A big part of the fun of making art is you get to create new worlds. Of course every world needs characters and stories. Every song, robot toy, puppet or drawing is a diferent character and sometimes they inhabit the same world. I make the albums like they're movies. Each song is in a specific order.

Your writing is almost like a stream of conscious, and everything is done at home with efficiency and speed, can you explain your recording process a little?

It usually starts with a song title and the words flow out right after. The melody comes when I read the lyrics over and over again. Walking outside helps with that. The mood of the lyrics defines the melody i hear in my head. It's basicaly either funny, dark, wacky or mysterious. Sometimes I write an instrumental part on guitar or keyboard and then i keep that on the shelf. I write some lyrics way later and then remember that part i wrote a while back and it fits with the lyrics. the real work is not writing them. it's getting the right sound quality, arranging and then mixing. That last part in the song birth process is the hardest and least fun for me. It usually ends with a deadly migraine! I gotta hire help for that at some point.

Did that process change in any way during the creation of OWTAE?

This lp is more intricate with arrangements than past things which were usually done on the spot. I learned that sometimes a simple demo of a song has more magic than a refined recording of the song . That’s why im putting out diferent versions of the album. Demos and alternate mixes, at least on tape, made available at shows. Kenneth J. Maclaurin made me an amazing cover for it and each tape will be a diferent colour variation of it. One for each season.

Is your work an homage or was everything always an homage?

I would say all of my art is pretty much all an homage and there's nothing wrong with that. The music i'm making is for sure, the sound and references are specific to time periods. I think we all try and alter the things we love in the art we make, we celebrate it. I guess a person or band is original in the sense that instead of just doing a byrds cover or something, you write a song that kind of captures their sound. Maybe you add another influence in there if it feels right. So what started as a sort of attempt to imitate created an original piece. that's good. I think imitation is usually not as conscious and mechanical as the word makes it sound. The song you wrote that sounds like a band you like came out of having their music in your blood. It's gonna come out of you when you least expect it. It's natural and healthy and then you can do so many alternate combinations with music, it never gets boring. You can make that imitation byrds song and stick a distorted tuba or a vocoder in there to switch it up. Go nuts!

On the topic of art, have you got other art projects you are working on right now? Any animation?

Mostly music related stuff every day lately but i need to continue making and selling toys now that i know what works and what doesn't. I'm getting back into that, gotta move these robots and monkey paws again! I’m working on a short called douche bag.

I’ve done animated videos for a fair amount of bands. daiquiri, giallos flame, babysitter and fuck the facts among them, but animation is literally back breaking work and when I get involved with that again it's as a writer or director. Drawing thousands of drawings is dangerous for me. I’m more interested in puppets now since you dont have to animate every frame of a character's mouth moving. I have many projects in mind for puppets and they are slowly coming into this reality.

(for music) Born winner as a one man live act is in the works, more church of aquarius shows, albums for both projects on the way, an album of me covering some film music such as empire strikes back....

What's happening with ghoul street?

Ghoul Street is a short feature puppet horror comedy i'm working on. It's bigger than my other projects. This involves getting a fair amount of people to help. Some human actors, lots of voice overs etc... It will see the light of day at some point, it's just a matter of time. Most of the puppets are made and are all waiting in an attic somewhere...

Is music your favourite art form? How is making music different from making a film or drawing?

I get to express myself quickly with a song. The song's words and melody come out naturally, lyrics are nowhere near as complicated as writing a story. I get a lot out of it. If there's a chip on your shoulder, writing and singing a song about it takes care of that better than any other art form. You can make music pretty easily with just your voice or one instrument, you don't need much. Of course, that simple demo must evolve into a carefully arranged and well played recording but it's still easier than animation. Making movies is like trying to express yourself in slow motion. In quick sand. Music is a nice little walk in the woods.
