drawing silver was a lot of trial and error for me ill be honest, im still kind of figuring out how to do it. HOWEVER i do have tips : ) it will be under the cut because im allergic to being concise.
1.most important. dont skimp on the fluff. i know his 06 model looks a bit like he glued on yarn to his neck but its important that he is fluffy. to me
2. and more seriously, the toughest part to figure out is is stupid fan weed forehead quills. theyre stupid, they block half his head, theyre a defining characteristic and they make drawing his eyes a nightmare. for most other characters you can draw the eyes easy, but the way silvers quills work make fitting them and the eyes together really weird.
anyways my though process drawing them is. try not to think about them as separate things. its easy to think of it like being the eyes and then somewhere above there are the quills, but its eaier to get them to fit together if you imagine the eyes are following the shape of his quills

they intersect. so the shape of the eye is influenced by the way his quills lay, but you can also use his eyes as guidelines for the quills too. they start where his eyeline ends, and they follow the shape of his brow on the top as well. you can start from the brow or the corner of his eyes, either way works, just pick the one that makes dinding the position and size easiest

from there you care use his eyebrow quills to reference the rest of them. i usually jump to the middle on next and use its position to judge where the last ones lay, cause those ones are kinda awkward
then of course you can add his little ears in. you dont HAVE to if the angle is awkward. his ears are itty bitty and easily hidden

all his quills slope back a bit, so they have a cute bend to them.
3. uhhh those 2 big fucking quills on the back of his head. they are weird to position because they are SO. LONG. luckily theres only 2 of them. theyre spaced out pretty evenly from each other, and there is a gap in between them. we've all seen his bald spot

anyways the quills have a gradual curve downward and outward. you can see it pretty well in that first picture, with all the silvers lined up. you can see it pretty well on the silver figure. from the front you can see them falling to either side of him

anyways i think thats the best advice i can give. dont ask me about drawing his cuffs or boots. they scare me

I love your art!! I really admire your work and I love your deltarune fanart, especially how you draw noelle :) whenever I look at your art I always feel like you have such a firm grasp on anatomy and all your drawings feel like they really exist in 3d space, and i love how the characters in your drawings are shaped :0 do you have any tips for a learning artist?
well gosh, after you buttering me up like that, how can i refuse? (jk but in all serious, thank you so much this is SO sweet) anyway, let's see, tips..... (this ended up turning into a whole tutorial lmao)
so one thing you'll hear a lot of artists say is to start with a warm up first, but not a lot about what "warming up" actually means. some people take that to mean they have to start with a whole other drawing, personally i find that takes away too much energy and i end up spending way more time on it than i want to. i like doodling little cubes and cylinders, but if i have something to color sometimes i just do that to warm up. whatever works for you best, just anything to get your hand used to the motion of drawing.

for starting the actual drawing it really is important to begin with a line of action. think of it as a basic guideline for how you want to pose a character. it will help the pose flow better, trust me. (im going to draw noelle bc obviously im pretty used to that)
some artists start with just the line, i like to do the guide for the head first and then the line, whatever

you dont absolutely have to follow the line for your pose btw its just good to have an idea of what youre doing before you do it
after that is when you start worrying about shapes, usually. an important thing to remember when drawing is that absolutely everything is made of shapes, first and foremost. humans, animals, objects, drawing anything starts with shapes. circles squares and triangles. this goes for drawing from life too! it's why you want to start with a light pencil or a sketch layer cuz this is the stuff youre gonna erase later, but it's essentially the skeleton of your drawing

btw, i give noelle a very basic "average thin teenage girl" figure but it's good to practice other body types too and learn what shapes work best for drawing those

you mightve heard the advice to "draw the person nude first and then draw the clothes on top of them" and that's only partially true- it's good to know what the shape of the body is before you dive in with the clothes but you dont have to do like, a whole nude model first. you just need enough to understand how the fabric is going to fall on the body

also, and this is sort of off-topic, but when it comes to clothes its good to understand how different fabric works and how it's going to react to a body underneath it. some fabric clings, some is very loose, some is thin and some is thick. basically what im saying is that you dont have to shrink-wrap the clothing to the body, especially when it comes to a character with breasts or anything else that sticks out. thats a mistake a lot of beginner artists make. in this case, noelle's robe is very loose but i still want it to conform to her body a little bit so the pose isn't totally lost

aaaaand there ya go! after all that is when im ready to actually draw the dang thing. you can tell if you look close that i didnt totally follow the guidelines i made for myself, and that's okay. for example i tend to almost always draw the head too small and then have to enlarge it afterwards. one of the perks of being a digital artist is i can make mistakes and not have to re-do the whole drawing to fix them.
one other thing as to how to get better at actually drawing the body right in the first place- FIGURE DRAWING! as cliche as it might sound it really helps. it's best to draw from life, but if you can't get into a class for it there are plenty of websites out there with good photography of nude models. i also reference a lot of my poses from those websites, or sometimes from videos of figure skating or ballet if i think the situation calls for it.
this is a good website for figure drawing practice- it lets you set a timer so you can practice getting a pose down quickly or spend a lot of time on one model, your choice
also, yknow, always make sure you're having fun and dont stress out too much about whether what youre drawing looks good. the more you draw, the better, and don't think you have to post everything to social media if you dont want to. draw for yourself first and foremost and observe from life and artists you admire what you WANT to draw and want to get better at, and what looks like fun. that's the most important part

Have you ever wanted to draw something but you fought due to your skill level at the time you decide not to do it
Ohh yeah all the time when i was younger, but Im doing my best at getting out of the habit in recent years. Doing it bad is better than not doing it at all, and if I really wanna I can redraw it later, using the first version as a guideline. So I generally try to at least get the idea down as a sketch. Though that one might be a more elaborate way of not doing it haha
One of the faster ways of improving in the exact artistic skills you need for That One Thing is by doing That One Thing in my experience. Aside from that, even if you dont improve, it still has value and you can feel accomplished having done something just for the sake of creating something! Art shouldn't need to fit certain standards to have value! Fuck it we ball forever and always!! Fear of inadequacy is the killer of enjoyment!!!
Now, the way I get better at art is mostly by looking at something that is WAYY above my skill level and going "lol I wonder/I bet I could do something like that" and then trying to do it. The finished result rarely actually matches whatever I got inspired by in skill level. BUT I almost always improve during it and its also fun. So I do actually get results I like by overestimating myself. And doing the exact opposite of giving up because my art "isnt good enough yet"
I think it helps that I find the drawing/animating/whatever else part of the process also fun, so even if I dont get results I am very satisfied with I have that to lean back on.
I do have a bunch of large projects I just dont work on but thats more because I am very lazy and less because I feel like I cant do the image in my head justice

HALLO i was wondering how you get out of art block?? your art is very expressive and i absolutely adore all your colour choices and designs. ive been having trouble with art block for a very long time now so i’m just trying to ask other artists how they get outta it <3 i hope u have a niceday yesyes
OUGHH HELLO!!! holy crap, art block is the WORST. everytime i encounter it, its always hard to beat it D: theres days where i feel like i WANT to draw something so badly but my brain just. cant function
i dont have a definitive solution for art block, but whenever i do, i have a few ways to cope with it. sometimes they work, sometimes they dont? but whenever the time comes and im just sitting at a brick wall, i got some survival tips
1. come up with random silly ideas,, it could be anything: random words, phrases, scenarios. they can be as nonsensical as you want them to be. during art blocks, my mind is completely dry with ideas, so i always try to compile a list of ideas from the past so i can come back to them later on. i try to come up with random duos or something as simple as “mcdonalds date”. i might not work on these now, but maybe some random lil word can spark that creativity in me
heres my art ideas list… i have some ideas that are like 8 months old in there BGAHSGA, but i save em there till i feel like working on them

2. STRUGGLE DOODLES!! i like to make a bunch of doodles of random scenes that i think about in my head. doodle practically anything. your favorite person, favorite animal, something you see outside your window, frogs?
heres a few of mine. most of the time, i NEVER get to finishing them. however, during art blocks sometimes i like to go back to really old, incomplete guidelines and add some new, random addition to it. sometimes i forget what my sketches were exactly meant to be? and i guess thats the fun about interpreting stuff and giving things a new spin to them. during art blocks, i HATE trying to come up with new drawings from a blank canvas (since i dont even have any ideas to begin with). but working on old wips, or completely revising them? sometimes these can be super fun :]
[and bonus tip!! and this is like, a golden tip that everyone loves: going back to super old drawings and redrawing them!! its my favorite. i absolutely love seeing the improvement ive made over the years. its also pretty easy to work with since you dont have to stress about coming up with completely new ideas from a blank slate! GAHH i should do that more often.]

3. search up your favorite fanart, go on pinterest, anything. i love this one.
search up some really cool photos of outfits, aesthetic backgrounds?? i find myself searching up a lot of fanart of fandoms im in, any word with “aesthetic” at the end, casino aesthetic, anything! pinterest has always been my go-to platform to find ideas. i go on the app and not even a second in, im blown with all of this cool art n character designs. i have a problem saving almost everything i find into my boards, but at least i saved a chock-full of ideas i can work with. :)
a thing about me: ive never been the type to try and force my art block out. whenever im facing a block, its extremely difficult for me to come up with things on my own. sometimes i let it wait for a while, but that tends to take a REALLY long time. D: if i dont feel like drawing, or doodling, or really doing anything? i always like scrolling through really pretty photos. that tends to spark a small idea in me i can work with, and sometimes i manage to get out of art block from there. it starts out small, then over time it gets even better.
these photos especially gave me WAY more motivation than i ever had to draw wilbur during an art block moment. i started off making small random doodles of him in a neon city and over time it kinda turned into a fixation for neon cities. i LOVE imagining characters in random photos i find on pinterest.

Dw Sah's hair has been evolved from mountain to Kagamine Len. Not sure if that's an improvement tho lmao-
hello! and hey for what it's worth, i also have my moments where i'm drawing their hair and i go "what.. is going on here" LMAO but also len's hair isn't all that different from spiky twin's so i'd say that's improvement! but here are some things i try to keep in mind when drawing their hair

ignore me emoting at the bottom. i would simplify their hair as a tear drop for sah and a half circle for mekh, but i also do not want them to appear Too flat. hence, the shape is a base to build off of. it helps us determine the direction of the hair, how we layer it, and the space it occupies. but sol, why a tear drop and not a triangle? to which i say We must consider that sah has hair at the Back of their head that also extends from the nape of their neck so it must be considered when drawing the hair as a whole

determining a point where the hair parts/where the bangs start from also helps us better understand how the hair flows from that point

mekh has a bang in the middle of their hair and some face-framing bangs along their jaw. you can still see the basic half-circle/dome shape of their hair, and you can see how the sections of hair logically appear to flow from the marked point on their head. the top of their head is round, the bottom of their hair is basically Flat and straight across (it's just a bob that's very flared out at the bottom) which is why the back isnt really visible from the front unless you're looking at them from a lower angle. case in point:

mekh as viewed from the back and slightly below. the traced line shows that the bottom of their hair is basically a circle lol

now sah is..... Certainly Something..... ngl im not so sure how to describe them but i will try. their bangs sweep right and i try to keep their hair in Big triangular sections to resemble the model more closely. the back of their hair Also sweeps right. id say the spikes of their hair run along the curve of the aforementioned teardrop, and you can basically use a differently-angled teardrop for the front bang as well. But Sol, you may ask again, why are some of the spikes labeled as being the Back of their hair?

ok this pic quality sucks but you get the idea. when viewed from the side, you will see that their hair also flows Back. you can also see the hair coming from the nape of the neck. sah's hair is actually like.. sorta shaggy and longer, pretty multi-layered in the hypothetical scenario that it isn't styled up which is where all those spikes come from. (i'd even say it'd extend lower than mekh's if unstyled since mekh's is so bluntly cut across.)
this got kinda long but some ending notes: honestly don't be afraid to stylize and you don't need to be perfectly on-model with their hair. there's nothing wrong with using references either, i have a bunch of screenshots of the elders from different angles and if you/a friend has the hair you can also just screenshot that to give you a guideline. and also don't be hard on yourself if it looks kinda off or anything because i have drawn a lot of spiky haired characters in my time and i still sometimes look at stuff i deemed Fit To Post and go "hm. i would have drawn that differently if i redrew it today."
but uh i mostly just hope this was helpful LOL. good luck drawing the twins!

sorry to bother you, but seeing some of your art recently has inspired me to start doing (digital) painting again. it's going... surprisingly well, all things considered, but there is one thing i'm having problems with.
im really struggling with head shapes/angles (esp profiles), and i was wondering if you remembered how you improved on those? did you just do studies of existing art/photographs, did you use any of the construction techniques - some other third thing? i feel like i skipped a basic step somewhere and now idk how to go back lmao. tysm! (also it was implied above but i think your art is awesome and really enjoy looking at it!!)
Hey, it's no bother at all. I'm always extremely honoured when I hear I'd inspired someone to get back into art!
Imo heads are one of the more difficult parts of the human body to draw considering how many little details they have so don't feel discouraged if you can't get 'em quite right yet, especially since you're just getting back into the swing of things. Don't be afraid to pull up a reference even when you're doing personal work.
For me, 99% of it is studies. Make yourself a pinterest folder or a regular folder on your computer and hoard any face you think looks interesting. I try to stay away from having them all be typical instagram models with chiseled jaws and so on. Having variety in your references is an important part of building your visual library. I also like people watching when I'm outside.
Strengthen your observational skills - when I look at a face I don't just take in the whole, I try to take note of how individual features relate to each other: the distance between the bottom of the nose and the bottom of the chin (and between the top of the forehead & the eyebrows), how large the space between the eyes is, how large or small specific features are (both on their own and in relation to each other), etc. Eventually you'll be able to start mixing and matching these into unique faces, as well as exaggerating them to fit your style.
For guidelines, to be honest I've always been a bit resistant to using them, but that's more of a me problem lol. I got started off with the loomis method: here's the book if you want the instructions directly from the horse's mouth (all of his books entered free domain a while back I think). If you're more of a visual learner like I am, proko's got a series of videos breaking it down: basics, how to adapt it to more varied faces, freestyling it.
The important thing about this method (or really, any draftsmanship method) is that you'll have to adapt it to suit your own needs. Especially considering that these guidelines follow a more ''idealized'' face (according to loomis) that you'll probably wanna break out of eventually. Think of it as a springboard – the method is good for giving you the fundamentals to begin visualising how proportions work, but don't get bogged down in following it to the exact mathematical line every time you draw a head. Of course, this comes with time and practice (where those studies will really pay off); once you start to feel that you understand the proportions, you can start branching out.
Practice drawing the skull! This helped me a lot - if you know where all the bony landmarks underneath the skin & muscles are, like the cheekbones, browbones, eyesockets (the eyesockets are especially helpful for profiles – you can build the rest of the features around them), etc. it becomes easier to keep track of your proportions in perspective. Sketchfab has a lot of 3D skull models you can rotate around, here's one where you can visualise how the skin sits on top of it.
Learning how to break the head down into basic flat planes is also helpful. Here's an Asaro Head you can turn in 3D space.
It's a bit more advanced but I also really like doing this exercise to practice drawing the head at different angles. Especially how he starts off with simple blocky shapes in the beginning.
I know I mention this a lot, but try working in 3D. Whether with a digital program or real clay. Sometimes sculpting things out in three dimensions is what it takes for things to really click.
Doing studies from tv shows/movies is also fun 'cause you can get video footage of the head turning in real time.
Hopefully some of that was helpful (and coherent, I'm still a bit loopy from my fever/the cold meds)! Again, it all really boils down to time and practice - you'll be noticing new things and building up your knowledge for as long as you're alive, so the most important thing is to stay curious and observant!

Hello, just wanna start this off by saying that I love your art. I've decided to ask my favourite artists for art tips as I wanna get into it, but no matter what I do it never looks right. So, any tips?
HELLO TYSM!!! ngl i dont think im the best 4 this question im also kinda in a rut rn where im not really satisfied w my art n craving more progress and improvement but im getting there somewhat but very slowly! (ive been this way for a rly long time naow) this might be long but im gna try n throw in the things ik, sorry if my thoughts r messy im not the best in articulating stuff :')
i think a good way to start off is to find out what skill you lack the most or what you want to improve the most on, say for ex: u wna focus on getting better at composition for illustrations, then a good way to improve them is to learn about the composition rules (ex: rule of 3rds, etc), look for any scenes in films/animation or photographies and storybooks , study them and recreate it! go crazy !! ive done a study on a friend's picture before, and have asked my friends if i can use their photographies as practice!
looking for inspiration will also improve ur visual library, they can help u find what u wna put in ur art ! like perhaps certain color palettes or styles, it's best to look at different mediums of art instead of focusing only on one, sometimes u can find techniques meant 4 u! (ex: of this is my friend who used to be a watercolor artist, ive observed them using watercolor techniques when they were still new to digital art! basically mix n match whatever feels good/convenient 4 u :] )
disciplining urself is also good to have more improvement! i have trouble w this the most ever since bc its hard 2 focus if no one is like there to monitor u (in my experience), if u rly wna make progress u have to squeeze in some art practice time in ur schedule, it can be around 15-30 mins or even 3 hrs, completely up to you! (rmb to take breaks!). you can give urself deadlines if that will help n maybe timers too!
my prof always said "Proper practice makes perfect", so it's also best to practice with a clear goal in mind, take notes on the things u lack and if ur watching any art tutorials/speedpaints, take notes of those too! it's good to have something specific in mind so u wont get lost n u wud know what u wna do! it helps u retain info as well so u can look back on stuff, to avoid overwhelming urself u can just focus on small bits first, ex: in anatomy, u can focus on the head area first, break it down to drawing eyes and noses, etc! then u can move onto the torso area!
USE REFS!!!! make use of pinterest or any other refs u can find, cannot stress this enuf go crazyyy w references, make a moodboard full of referencess n go crazzyy w them!! i used to not like doing this bc i just head straight in to drawing bc thats what i was used to but art college trained me 2 use refs bc they help so very much, theyre like ur guideline for what u wna make so u have a clear goal in mind, also photobashing seems like a great practice too never tried it but yes it can help when ur planning an illustration/concept art!
^above also applies to art styles! go crazy n experiment w them!! i think its so very fun to explore diff art styles n not stick to 1, again this depends on u but having a different range of artworks is rly fun, u can go from very pastel soft colors n style, to smth very vibrant n sharp, to smth like dark n chalky-sketchy kind of vibe if im making sense T__T, basically go wild!! go crazy!! dont let urself sit in 1 box! hop into other boxes !! or wear all of them!! or poke holes in the box n add stuff to the box or wear a circle!! trust me it looks so fun if u put different artworks uve made side by side n go wow i did that!!
also create small thumbnails 4 illustration! its really best to plan ahead art too, as i said i used to just head straight in n not plan but ive learned to absolutely enjoy planning making art! collecting refs n seeing what kind of composition goes n what colors wud work is so very fun actually! it rly helps a lot
theres also this one post i lost the link, but basically it shows how much progress u can make if u make loose sketches vs full on rendered illustrations vs a mix of both, again this depends entirely on u bc things r different for everyone! i think that post is really good for teaching abt art progress (if any1 knows where it is pls do link!), i think focusing on sketches n practice is better tho bc it helps u draw more freely n loosely! i think that speeds up ur process more as well n doesnt make u lose interest immediately compared 2 focusing on finishing 1 big rendered illust (talking from experience) but then again its different for every1 so honestly just experiment n see what feels right for u!
i wna say tho that although it is good to make sure ur drawing looks right its also good to just let yourself draw freely, i think what matters is that u understood the structures of something and as long as ur able to apply that in ur own way i think thats gud! i think drawing freely helps u draw more fluidly? like having more expression is what i mean. ive gotten into the "i have 2 make this look right" hole before n i noticed it made my art look stiff, so highlyy recommend doing gesture drawing n life studies! rmb to have fun when practicing n learning,
dont pressure urself too much! enjoy the experience :] ! messy sketches r good!! not everything has to look good or perfect! my sketchbooks from way back were just doodles, pencil sketches no color mostly, theres an occasional lined one w markers , ballpen, n some highlighters, n my drawings were either smth funny that happened w me n frens with our personas or making ocs for my faves or ocs for me in general!
ur sketchbook doesnt have to look pretty its like ur diary but its art ykno! ur thoughts in visual form for the day! (again all up to u as long as u have fun! its all different 4 everyone!)

Our model today will be the legendary late Meat Loaf from the ‘I’d do anything for love’ music video! I’m just obsessed with Meat Loaf right now, don’t ask me why. I’ll do my best to describe the thought process as I go on!

Step 1.

Well of course you just start with a circle, nothing else to say. Ya know like the spongebob meme…

So just starting to map out about where the main facial features go. Just eyeballing and keeping it loose. I really never use any of the well known measuring techniques and honestly just draw the features onto a mostly blank head. I don’t really like most face guide techniques. 
Like for example there’s tutorials that say you have to map out the face by lining up the eyes with the edge of the nose or measuring the proper width of a nose bridge with the width of the eye and all these little ‘shortcuts’ and rules. I’m sure we’ve all seen a ‘how to draw a face’ tutorial and while I know these are helpful for some people, I find them a little stifling to expression. They give you a good map to essentially draw a flawless, wooden, conventionally attractive model but not everyone looks the same.  People have bigger noses and different snapped eyes and different length foreheads. Like, just fucking look at Meat Loaf!
Okay, rant over. Just embrace peoples unique beauty is all I’m trying to say and take that into account when you draw.
Step 3.

Starting to actually draw some of the features. As you can see I thought I put my little guideline for his eyes a little high for the shape of Meat Loaf’s face (Which I’d later change back in the line art, haha) I also draw the eyebrow line first before I draw the eyes, I don’t know why.
For noses I tend to draw a few circles for the nostrils and the tip then give a loose line for the bridge up to the brow bone. It works very well for most nose shapes. Keep it loose and tighten up the shapes as you go.
On a specific note, when I draw people with open mouths I almost always first map out the face with the jaw closed then tilt the jaw open as I go on. Something about immediately drawing that long line from the nose to the chin for an open jaw tends to just visually throws me off. Working digital has some very helpful benefits 😅

Okay, now that’s starting to look like a person. (Ignore the prosthetics!)
I think in this stage you can start to see my own style flare coming into play. I tend to exaggerate brow bones, lip shape and nose shape. While it’s not completely accurate to the original I think it adds to the features of whoever I’m drawing without going to a full caricature. I suppose this could be adding more ‘shape’ to something so it doesn’t appear so stiff. Highlight people uniqueness, ya know?
I’ll choose ‘expression’ over ‘accuracy’ any day 😅

Whoa that was a big change! …but actually not really.
Now that I’m confident(ish) I’ve got his features mostly correct I start thinking about shading and how it frames and highlights his face. I put most of my work into the expression of the line work so I’m just mapping out what needs to be highlighted and what needs to be black, essentially. And also very loosely drawing his hair 😅 I never put any thought into drawing hair. Really it’s just a shape they frames the face for me and that how I think about it.
It’s also around this point in the sketch that I spend a little more time ‘sculpting’ out the features a little more. I loosely put in their shape and about where they are then I take a little time to make them a little tighter and more accurate.
Now it’s on to cleaner line Art!

So really at this point it’s just tracing. For me specifically, I put A LOT of emphasis into line weight and I think that’s what makes my work unique. I also put a lot of emphasis into the black space of the piece as well. Most of my shading and shape comes from my line art rather than my colors, and that’s just how I like it.

After I remove the sketch layer underneath i usually add a few little detail lines or more cross hatching to emphasis certain areas. Just really stylizing it more to my liking. 
I wasn’t planning on coloring it but I spent like 5 minutes putting in some loose colors because I thought the contrasting lighting looked interesting... I guess that’s all I have to say about that.
Now I hope you all are filled with the urge to go watch the ‘I’d do anything for love’ music video. It’s... a ride.
I hope this was sooomewhat helpful and nice little glimpse of my process. I want to emphasis again that I personally believe there’s no ‘right way’ to draw a face. There’s no specific cheat code on how to draw expression good. There’s no ‘ideal’ face. I feel like if you adhere to a rigorous guide for every face and expression you draw then it takes away from the feeling in a drawing.

hmmmm let me think, im not great at talking nor am i great at giving advice so im just going to say some things that worked for me:
I'd say the main thing is to draw things you enjoy, things that will make you happy. it’s really important to practice and draw a lot if you want to improve, so if you’re drawing things you enjoy you’ll want to draw more often. 
Try to understand anatomy. You can do this by looking up references for the poses you want to draw. Don’t trace them, rather try to understand them and use logic. The width of the shoulders, where the neck connects and how long it should be, how big the head should be in relation to the body... Pay attention to yourself in the mirror also. how much space is there between your eye and your ear, how it varies with the angle of your face, how much space between your mouth and chin and your mouth and nose, where your eyebrows begin and where they end, etc.
Very important especially at the beginning, even when you’re just doing screenshot redraws, is not to just draw what you see, first draw what’s underneath and then lightly erase it/use a different layer so you can add the clothes and hair on top. So basically draw them naked first lol.
Use guidelines for the face and the body. Maybe you don’t know how to use them at first, but you don’t have to follow them strictly. i mainly use them to make sure the eyes are leveled, the nose is in the middle of the face, the shoulders are the same width and the torso is centered. follow them in a way that’s useful to you.
Lastly, do not focus on developing an artstyle. i wish someone had told me this bc i was trying soo hard to find my artstyle, i thought i wouldn’t be a real artist until i had one, but the thing is it’ll come naturally. it just happens. so don’t focus on always trying to do things the same way bc you feel like that’s your style, and just do them in a way that feels fun. don’t be scared to try new things.

So this is a work in progress but I got a doctor dilf, he’s 42 and an absolute sweetheart, he’s also part of a pirate crew
He’s very cool, I really like the hairstyle you’ve chosen for him!! Despite this being a WIP it’s easy to tell he’s a kind character bc of the eye shape and the soft waves of hair framing his face, I think hairstyle helps how a character feels and how they can be percieved by a ton
Also the half moon glasses (is that what they’re called?) those are rly nice, glasses are hard bc the perspective but these look great
In regards to the baby face, from what I can see its a combination of two things I’d have to critique:
1. You’re using a base standard mannequin model reference - this is absolutely fine for practice don’t hesitate to use these resources - that being said, there’s guidelines on the head and the eyes aren’t following the horizontal guide, I’m at work so I can’t draw over (if youre OK with me doing it) to show you, but heres another reference IRL:

I know this isn’t the exact same pose (neck shoulders facing the other wayh hah) as your 3d model reference but the head angle is kinda close enough cuz chin dipping down
The best advice I can give is follow the hairline, here the model in the photos eyebrows follow the hairline on the diagonal, the eyes should follow the same rule
For your sketch the left eye on the character (our right) is sunken further into the face, what Id do to fix it is lasso tool the nose and that eye and transform rotate it clockwise until it fits the guideline curve
2. The mouth and the chin of your sketch are a little too low, this is super subjective tho espeically when it comes to anime artstyles etc
The cheek region of the face has a muscle called the masseter and is kinda left out in simpler art styles like anime styles or more cartoony styles - i forget it alot myself and thats why some of my art looks wack as hell, basically I recommend putting it in bc it helps volume and emphasises a jaw - for the 3D model it bypasses this muscle completely bc its very smooth
I could be talking garbage here abt the cheeks bc its subjective and this differentiates between artists styles and likes etc, this issue can also be solved by moving the mouth a couple taps upwards, and to change the shape to a more w shaped upper lip

See the dark seam of the mouth, i know for your sketch the mouth is open in a smile but in all of this dudes mouth shapes theres a slight w shape in his upper lip, again subjective take this with a grain of salt sort of thing because everyone is different in how they choose to draw and create things
Summing up the critique: review eyes and nose (check guidelines and look at photos of ppls), for the jaw can review the actual shape of the face by including detail like cheeks and flattening the chin OR by reviewing the mouth by pulling it up closer to the nose, not too close and adjusting the shape
But so far so good !! I think your OC is great, I hope this wasn’t too horrendous to read im sorry for the long post

im not doing any assignments right now bc i took a break from uni bc i literally had an anxiety attack my first day on campus just trying to walk into class so yeah buddy i feel you 100%
idk what specifically your struggle is with the assignments but ive had my fair share of meltdowns over them so ive come up with a few ways/guidelines for tackling hw which i hope might be helpful for you??? anyway
lists. so many lists. i make a list for the following:
1. To do list
This will include all the things i need to get done for the assessment, in order. for example, a to do list for a research essay would look like this
1. pick a topic
2. find articles
3. read articles and copy/paste relevant sections
4. decide on paragraph topics
5. organise article sections under relevant paragraphs
6. write paragraph 1
7. write paragraph 2
8. write paragraph 3
9. write conclusion
10. add referencing
11. proofread
2. Questions
I make a list of all the questions that come up while im trying to do the assignment, and write them down in a list so i can either email them all to the teacher or ask them in person. this includes questions like how to start the assignment, if i wrote my introduction correctly, where to find certain material, did i understand the task properly? where do i find the rubric? is this fact i want to include in my essay accurate? some of the questions you might be able to figure out the answer yourself, but this is a helpful way to stay focused on the assignment itself; if you have a question, add it to the list and come back to it later, that way it doesnt break your flow if youre already working on something
3. structure list.
if im writing an essay I'll make headings like intro/p1/p2/p3/conclusion and underneath each heading ill write exactly what i need to include in each paragraph, that way i know what i need to include while im looking through source material, and I can cross it off when im done. for example that might look like
intro (this is a mashup of different types of essays bc idk)
- "This topic is important for XYZ reason."
- introduce body paragraphs
- mention past research (at least 2)
- "the aim of this study is to...."
- "the novel [ ] by [ ] is a..... which explores the idea of.... in a time of XYZ"
- introduce the main themes of the novel
4. a criteria list
this basically just has all the criteria/rubric stuff so like
- size 12 times new roman font
- need a reference list
- 600 words
- minimum of 2 references
- due when?
this list helps you make sure youve met all the criteria before the final send off
5. homework list.
if you have multiple different assignments, you can order them by which one you need to do first/highest priority, that way you make the most of your time.
i literally even made this a list akskks
i am just now realising this was probably more about the crisis thing than the assignments thing aksklskd but anyway,,,, yeah i hope this helps you? its definitely saved me a meltdown or two and i hope its at least a little helpful? maybe? no worries if not but like it sucks that youre struggling o lemme know if theres anyway i can help! ill send you a funky little drawing of a cat or something :)

You had the honor of being an Avenger. Yeah, you were one of “earth’s mightiest heroes.” However, you didn’t see yourself as one. You didn’t care about the title or anything like that; all that mattered was helping people.
You couldn’t care less about the praise from the media (or the negativity, most especially). You were a very selfless person who had a huge heart. You’d risk your life if it meant you could save even just one person. Saving one person would make all the difference to you and you couldn’t think of a better way to die.
Okay, that was rather grim, but it was truly your mindset. You hoped that when it was your time to pass, that it would be for the greater good. You couldn’t imagine going out of this world in a better way. Giving someone else the opportunity to live their life was more than enough incentive for you to save someone.
So, if you’d jump in front of a bullet for a stranger, then you’d most definitely jump in front of a bullet for the woman you love. Which is exactly what you did.

Okay, let’s backtrack a little bit before we get to that. First of all, the woman you loved? She just so happened to be a once deadly assassin turned hero; Natasha Romanoff.
Where do you even start with her? She’s absolutely stunning; she honestly didn’t even need the training she had to be able to seduce people. She could have anyone eating out of the palm of her hand with a bat of her long, dark eyelashes that accentuated her emerald eyes perfectly.
Her physical appearance was beautiful, but her mind was her most gorgeous feature of all. She always did what she thought was right; no matter who agreed or disagreed with her. She was a very caring person; contrary to popular belief.
You’ve never met someone who’s loved and cared for people more than Natasha does. She wasn’t one to show her affection physically. She showed her love through protecting her teammates during missions, checking up on them after particularly rough missions, and cracking wise jokes to cheer someone up when they had a tough day.

Although she wasn’t one for intimate touches with others; you were her only exception.

When you had met Natasha, it was a few years ago when you had been recruited into the Avengers. There was an immediate click between you both. There was apparently some sort of invisible force that seemed to draw you and Nat to one another.
As you and Natasha got closer, the team had informed you that Natasha wasn’t exactly an open person; especially to newcomers, but she was different with you.
She had opened up to you about her past, something your teammates couldn’t say she’s done with them. She initiated physical contact with you, whether it be random hugs from behind while you were cooking in the kitchen or cuddling into your side during team movie nights.
You couldn’t contain your blushing or flustered state at all whenever Natasha was in your vicinity, and the team noticed this. You’d endured endless amounts of teasing from the team about your obvious crush on Natasha.
You couldn’t help but think: if everyone else noticed your feelings for the Russian, surely the woman herself had picked up on it… right?
She’s a trained spy who can easily detect people’s emotions and thoughts based off of their reactions and body language. She had to have noticed you had the hots for her, right??
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Wrong. Natasha was just as oblivious to your feelings for her as you were to hers for you.

Your teammates had also made sure to tease Natasha for her sudden love and need for affection when it came to you.
Their teasing resulted in a sharp glare from Natasha, that shut them up immediately. Although they knew Natasha wouldn’t actually brutally hurt them, they still preferred not to get on her bad side.
However, Natasha would find herself holding back a smile at the thought of you whenever they teased her. She wished she could be with you and the touching would become more. It meant so much to her and she truly hoped it meant as much to you as it did to her. And it did, she was just too blind to notice it.
One of the world’s greatest spies couldn’t even tell that her crush liked her back. Isn’t that just the most ironic thing in the world?

Being sent on missions with Natasha was a common occurrence. You guys worked incredibly well together. The bond between you both carried into your work and you guys seemed to always succeed with the other person by your side. You guys were a formidable force when you were together.
Perhaps this was the case because of your feelings for one another. Of course, you guys knew about your own feelings towards the other, but neither of you knew they were reciprocated.
You and Natasha had a shared drive to protect the other at all costs. Letting something bad happen to the other person was just not an option to either of you.
Now, you were sat beside Natasha as she flew the Quinjet to a hidden Hydra base that S.H.I.E.L.D needed to infiltrate and get a good analysis of.
The objective? It was a simple one. You guys were to arrive at the base and not engage. All you had to do was roam the building in order to give S.H.I.E.L.D an accurate layout of the base that they could create a map out of. Also, if you both could manage it; find out what the base was used for.
It was simply a recon mission. No contact, no fighting, just go in, go around the inside and outside of the base, and get out.

However, like most things in life; your mission didn’t go according to plan.

You guys had not anticipated that the base would have heavy security, but as you could probably guess; the place was crawling with Hydra agents.

You and Natasha made it pretty far into the building. You were currently at the center of the base where you discovered weapons upon weapons of mass destruction.
So, you guys had found out what they were doing within the base and covered the grounds. All you had to do was make it out undetected and report back to the Compound.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Piece of cake, right? Nope, absolutely not.

Unfortunately for you and Natasha, as you guys neared the exit, you had been spotted by a few Hydra agents.
Immediately, you and Natasha whipped out your guns and began to shoot at the agents. As expected, they were armed as well.
You both had managed to shoot down all of them; bodies scattered throughout the hallway.
Natasha turned around to face you and looked over your body to ensure you were okay; you doing the same with her.
“Let’s get out of here.” In facing you, her back was turned to the bodies littered across the hall. Your eyes widened as your attention was drawn to an agent with his gun pointed straight for Natasha.
You acted without thinking; not that you needed to anyway. The woman you loved was about to get shot and you had the ability to save her. This was a no brainer.
You pulled Natasha to the side as you had your gun pointed out in front of you towards the agent. You fully intended to get out of the bullet’s path, but as you shot at the agent, he also fired his weapon.
It happened so fast. You pushed Nat out of your way and fired instantly. It took you a moment to register what exactly happened.
You watched in relief as the man was knocked out as you shot him in the stomach. You didn’t seem to notice the sharp pain on the left side of your body, until Natasha let out a loud gasp.
You looked down at your shoulder and noticed a bullet hole, seeping with your blood. You knew it hadn’t hit your heart because if it did; you most definitely would’ve been dead right now.
But just from looking at the wound, you could tell it was pretty damn close.
You fell to the ground as your brain finally caught up with the searing burn coming from your shoulder.
Natasha was quick to break your fall, catching you in her arms. She slowly and carefully laid your body onto the floor as her eyes were wide with fear.
You watched as the redhead put her hand up to her ear and began to speak frantically.
“We need backup. I repeat, we need backup. L/N is down. Get here, now.”
Natasha tried to keep her voice calm and steady, but as she applied pressure to your wound, she failed miserably.
You felt lightheaded and you knew that the bullet definitely did a number on you. It may not have struck your heart, but you could tell that it still wasn’t a good spot to get shot in.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
At Natasha’s voice, you smiled. The usually calm and unbothered Black Widow was now a worried wreck.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
“It’s fine Tasha, it’s far from the heart…” You turned your head down to look at your wound that was covered by Nat’s hands for dramatic effect before tilting your head up to look at her again.
“Never mind, I take that back.” You let out a laugh. Bad idea. You cringed in pain and Natasha gave you a disappointed, but amused look.
“Now isn’t the time for jokes, Y/N/N. You need to focus on staying awake. Preserve your energy.” Natasha spoke as she observed your eyes slowly drooping.
“Aw come on, Natty. It’s always the time for a joke. If I’m going to die, I want to go out a comedian.” You once again let out a laugh, and winced once more.
“You’re not going to die, you hear me? I don’t know why you felt the need to save me. I could’ve taken it.” Natasha spoke as she applied more pressure, causing you to flinch. She sent you an apologetic look for causing you more pain.
Your eyes slowly fell, until they were closed shut. Natasha unable to see the Y/E/C irises that she had fallen in love with.
Dread filled Natasha’s body at the sight. She removed one hand from your chest and tapped your cheek repeatedly.
Your eyes shot open and focused on Natasha once more.
“Stay awake. Backup and medical will be here soon. Just focus on me okay? I can’t lose you.”
You mustered a small smile as your eyes scanned Natasha’s scared state. You were really trying to stay awake; more for her than yourself.

“I saved you because I… I-“

Your eyes closed again, before you had the chance to tell Natasha what you’ve been wanting to tell her for years.
If you were still conscious, you would’ve felt the frantic, panicked shaking of your body. You would’ve felt the tears falling from Natasha’s eyes, landing onto your face as she begged you to wake up; to come back to her.

Panic spread across the Compound at the news of your injury. The entire team rushed to the medical wing and were met with the sight of a distraught Natasha Romanoff.
She was sat on the floor, staring at her hands. They were covered in dried blood; your blood. Natasha had tears streaming down her face, her mascara now a streaky fail against her flushed cheeks.
The the team paused; scared to approach her. They were in shock from the situation and seeing Natasha like this. However, Wanda was the first to make her way towards the assassin.
“Nat, let’s go and get you cleaned up.” Wanda spoke softly, being extremely cautious. No one knew how to handle Natasha in this state; because no one had ever seen her like this before.
Natasha’s eyes darted up to Wanda before scanning over the rest of the team.
“No. I’m not going anywhere until I know how Y/N is doing.” Natasha abruptly stood up from where she sat, causing Wanda to move back.
“She flatlined twice on our way here. Do you realize what that means? She died… twice. Now she’s in surgery, fighting for her life. Because of me…”
Natasha’s angered state quickly subsided as sadness and guilt took over. She felt responsible for what happened to you. She made a secret vow to herself to protect you; and she felt as if she failed miserably.
“It’s not your fault Natasha.” Steve spoke as he took a small step towards her. He knew his words were the wrong ones as Natasha’s eyes lit up with fury.
“You weren’t there, Rogers. I got distracted and I let my guard down. Y/N stepped in to save me and now she’s paying the price.”
Natasha’s face was turning redder the angrier she got. If she had Banner’s power, she would definitely be in Hulk form right now.
“Okay, getting angry isn’t going to make the situation any better. All we can do right now is wait and hope she’s okay.”
Wanda’s soft voice was heard throughout the waiting room. Her words were effective; seeing as Natasha just let out a huff of breath before sitting down on the floor once more.

1 week later
It’s been a week since you were shot. A week since Natasha has seen your eyes open. A week since shes heard her favorite voice. A week since the day that she would never ever forget.
The panicked look on your face. Your hand abruptly pushing her to the side. The sound of a gunshot, followed by another. The sight of your wound, so close to your heart. Your body dropping as she caught you quickly. Your eyes slowly shutting, before closing altogether.
Helen had informed the team after 5 hours of surgery that you were okay. However, they would be putting you into a medically induced coma for a week. They needed to give you proper time to heal after taking the bullet out and using the regeneration chamber on you.
The week felt like a year to Natasha. She refused to leave the medical wing. She took time off of missions, understandably so. She wanted to be there when you woke up.

Yeah, Nat knew it was a medically induced coma and you were going to wake up at some point, but a huge part of her was filled with doubt.
What if you fell into an actual coma and they wouldn’t have been able to wake you up? What if you ended up dying unexpectedly?
But Natasha banished those thoughts from her head. They didn’t matter anymore. You were here with her, alive, and she would try her god damn hardest to keep it that way.

You have been taking it easy since you had woken up from your medically induced coma. It was doctor’s orders. You were to refrain from any strenuous activities until you were properly healed.
Well actually, you were healed already. It wasn’t painful or anything like that anymore. Helen just wanted to make sure you were fully out of the woods. Her orders were simply a precautionary measure.

It's been a few months since you were on an expedition for the last time, Daryl can’t keep his eyes away from you, feeling worried that you have lost your edge. But you haven’t. When Carol stops the car and you’re able to step out from it, under everybody’s attention, you unfold the map over the hood. After giving guidelines and telling every one of them where they should have to go and what you need to collect, you keep in charge of the only pharmacy in the ghost village. Daryl isn’t convinced of letting you go alone, but there aren’t enough people to accompany you.
Bag on your shoulders and a knife on your thigh holder, you memorize the directions you have to take to find it. Fortunately, the shop isn’t too far from your position. With curiosity, you travel your eyes all around the place you’re touring, imagining how it was before the apocalypse. You can see the cars being driven, children running from one side to another, people peaceful and carefree living their lives. Now, there’s only silence. A silence that gives you shivers after two months practically locked in Alexandria. After suffering a little accident involving a couple of walkers and a scared horse, you had to stay with your foot propped up until it was healed. Sometimes, you feel a fleeting pain running your calp, but nothing too serious —nothing that could stop you from kicking some dead-asses.
When you reach your destination, you make sure that no one is close to avoid any problems, before coming inside. The door squeaks slightly as you open it, probably because of the rusty hinges. Sticking in your head, you walk in after checking the coast is clear. Your eyes shine with pure happiness, seeing all the things you can have. Pads, different meds, alcohol to disinfect, bandages… It’s like if you just hit the jackpot. Not losing a single second of your precious time, you open the big bag now hanging from your hands to pick up anything at your fingertips. With all these supplies you’ll be able to cover the nursery for more than four months.
So focused on your task, you disconnect from the world, lost in your thoughts about how good has been your idea of exploring this abandoned village. And you’re so absent-minded that nothing can bring you back to reality, except for a loud crash to the floor that causes you to jump on your boots. In just a second, you have your knife at the level of your eyes ready to stab the walker who dares to mess with you; but what you find freezes your blood for a second. A long second.
The walker is already dead at your feet. With an arrow stuck in the back of his head. Daryl let out a loud sigh without raising his eyes towards yours until he squats to grab the piece of his favorite weapon from the rotten skull. Biting his bottom lip to shut himself up and not feel regrets for the words he wants to utter, he waves the arrow in his left hand before keeping it behind him. “My hero”. You mumble comically as you place both hands on your chest, noticing how his shoulders start to relax a little when the pressure has vanished.
“‘S not funny”. He replies frowning, raising a forefinger to point at you.
Rolling your eyes with a click of your tongue, you stretch your right hand towards him while using the other to keep your knife. With a soft grip around his wrist and a gentle pull, you urge him to come closer. You can see the worry in his blue orbs when your noses are almost touching each other and your hands land on both sides of his neck, beneath his disheveled locks of hair. Daryl closes his eyelids as your lips meet his —the place they belong to— in a dearly caress that forces him to wrap his free arm around your waist.
“I'll be here to protect you”. He whispers huskily.
“But take care”. You repeat the three words he always says below that promise, drawing a gracious smile that he doesn’t doubt to kiss again.
For a moment, there’s no danger in the world. There are no walkers to be alarmed by. There are no more people around you. Just the two of you, enjoying each other’s closeness; the love you feel for each other.
“C’mon, we’ve to leave”. He snorts much to your regret, leaning to place the last kiss on your forehead. But you will continue later, back in Alexandria. That’s for sure.

i could make a joke here i guess but im all underslept and buzzy with love for life and humanity so im just gonna earnestly give you a rundown on my life
i guess this isn't even my first time doing DTA book covers, I did these back in February
previously "designed" the cover of a children's book my brother's friends self-published but that was just placing text over a cartoon drawing of a bee someone drew. real career #moment
I don't think I've ever... "taken" a "design" class. (but DID ask for photoshop cs2 for my 12th birthday.) and i used to make a lot of Gifs and Graphics on here age 15 or so (one of jensen ackles got 1000 notes, baby!) etc so honestly. I Learnt at Tumblr University
but I HAVE previously "worked" "in" "design" in the way that social media officers get dragged into print design when no one else in the fucking office knows how to use the strict brand guideline templates to save their lives
so I mean. my point is it's very unfair to look at this and think like, idk. that I taught myself All That just for this project. I had a long head-start and other skills already! but on the flipside it's not. Insurmountable Prior Expertise. just practice! messing about!
what IS really, really, really new territory for me with these is how much I....made myself? I mean, everything's a gradated spectrum, all art is plagiarism design triply so, but anything I'd done before had been adding text over images or working within literal drag-drop style brand templates with specific fonts/colours, (OR: amv editing! which is a similar form of....editing together other things, without addition, necessarily) I really am not a creative person in terms of Sparks of Ideas, in drawing yourself or writing yourself, I'm All Editing, Baby!, and so.....starting just at thinking about the Thing I was working with, what people love about it and what people should have as a first impression of it, and taking all of that and...sounds stupid but i was like SCARED!!!! to MAKE/add things in that photoshop file BY MYSELF. it was still levels of copying eg soni's Le Guin mock-up is still visible in the end product, and the back covers are a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of an 80s sociology textbook where I saw a simple black stroke frame and thought "oh!". and there's stock textures for the creases and the plastic tape, and I didn't design the font myself — all those details, etc. The usual. But having something 60+ layers deep from me making little colour blocks or erasing or adding edited imagery outside a template or background stock to work off made me feel like I was out adrift in the open water without anything tying me back to land except The Text Itself and my love of it and how I saw it. whack!!!!!!! to create!
many, many people helped me with every step of the way. just "this is 1.11 leading this is 1.15 which looks less terrible" over and over and over again. i love them a lot for that. everybody needs that.
