saw a post that gave me an eye twitch so i’m gonna break it down and analyze it bc i feel like it exemplifies a lot of what’s wrong with gentile discourse on i/p rn.

1. yeah, it is awful that zionist institutions and leadership use jewish trauma to justify why diaspora jews should unquestioningly support the current state of israel, regardless of the atrocities it commits against palestinians.

2. "israel is not your bube who survived the shoah" i don't know how to explain to you how fucking callous this sentence is.

3. for better or worse, israel did save jewish people. nearly a million jews from the swana region and 24,000 from ethiopia fled there after experiencing extreme violence and discrimination. you really think america or europe would have taken in a million black and brown jews? have you seen the current state of immigration?

4. "how do you argue with someone when their idea of israel is so rooted in their family trauma?" you don't. you validate their fears, make them feel heard, and then you offer them alternatives. the vast majority of diaspora support for israel is based in fear of persecution and eradication. if you offer real, legitimate solutions for the safety of diaspora jews, i guarantee you will be a thousand times more successful than just screaming at them and telling them "who fucking cares about your holocaust survivor bubbe????"

5. "how do you possibly tell them that the holocaust isn't relevant?" you don't, because it is. nearly 500,000 holocaust survivors moved to or were sent to israel after the shoah. some did not have a choice of where they were sent, some tried to go back to where they were living before but had no money and gentiles had taken their houses and belongings so they had nowhere to go, many faced violence upon trying to return to their hometowns in the form of pogroms, several countries turned them away. you cannot say the holocaust is not relevant to the current israeli population because gentiles in the diaspora are the reason they're there.

6. "i'm so tired of centering jewish identity in discussions over a nation state." are you stupid? genuinely, are you stupid? do you really not see how jewish identity and the history of the jewish people factor into a state with a fucking star of david on the flag that was founded after a genocide of 6 million jews that the rest of the world didn't want to deal with? seriously? no, jews in the diaspora are not responsible for the actions of the israeli government. we aren't more loyal to israel than we are to wherever we're living. but to say that israel has nothing to do with the jewish people is frankly laughable.

7. "how do you say that without sounding invalidating? like that just sounds horrible and antisemitic." that's because it is. you are being horrible and antisemitic.

so please for the love of fuck educate yourself on the history of the jewish people and the history of the state of israel before making stupid ass posts like this. israel didn't manifest out of nowhere, it didn't come from "jewish supremacy" it came from hundreds of thousands of jews who were at their wit's fucking end with antisemitism in the diaspora, and from britain's colonization and imperialism paired with it's complete and total disregard for anyone who wasn't racially and culturally white. the monster that is modern day political zionism is a creation of the world's own making. people have been posting a lot about hamas being a response to 70+ years of israeli occupation, violence, and apartheid, but don't seem to understand that israel is a response to 3000+ years of persecution, expulsion, and genocide. the massacres and terror committed by hamas don't take into account the wellbeing of palestinians, and the oppression and violence perpetuated by the israeli government don't take into account the wellbeing of jews in israel or in the diaspora.

nothing will change if gentiles in the diaspora do not take responsibility for the rest of the world's role in the creation of israel. research your country, learn about how they treated their jews (not just during the holocaust but from the moment there were jews in your country), talk to your local jewish population, ask how you and organizations you are part of can help keep the diaspora safe for jews. because as an american jew, i don't want to move to israel. the government is borderline fascist, non ashki non orthodox jews are often seen as second class citizens, i don't speak the language, and my life is here. a lot of diaspora jews feel this way. but every time i see another group of nazis at a rally or get another bomb threat at my synagogue and look to see which country would be safest to move to as a trans person and as a jew, the only answer is israel, which is exactly what zionist institutions and leadership are counting on. if you want that to change, you and your community have to change it.

Gotta be honest dude, you are like, my favorite follower; not everyone I get into discourse with in the tags sticks around and I genuinely love it. I really appreciate disagreements that are chill that's literally how I try to be all of the time. If any of you disagree with anything I say, please feel free to tell me, just know I'll argue with you about it but also I am loving it as long as you don't call me any names lol then it's not very chill :(

ANYWAYS. Great question! So, a lot of it is from a narrative standpoint. In literature, to have a good story at the beginning a character needs to start at a place and then by the end be in a different place. I mean this like, emotionally, not physically. There needs to be a change or what is the point? This is basic storytelling and Avatar at it's core is Super basic. It's easy to forget with how complicated the world-building is, but the character changes are really simple. At the beginning of Way of Water Jake is determined to flee to protect his family at the end he tells us "I understand now no more running we have to stay and fight." Basic, easy.

Neytiri's big obstacle that's been set up is her trauma and how its manifested, which is of course in her hatred and fear of humans and how she treats Spider. It seems to me that the only logical journey for her character to make is a healing one, one where she can hope to begin to move past her trauma and heal, strengthening these relationships with her half human family. Because it is so tangentially related to humans, it is only logical that the one human character she has big emotional moments with will be essential in that arc. It just seems right to me from a writing standpoint that acceptance or acknowledgment of Spider is integral to a symbolic acceptance of her past, and the ability to move on from it. Right now it is driving her and consuming her.

Not even gonna touch this thematically rn or what it means in the grander scheme of things, I just think narratively that is what they have set up. It's what I would do. I think it seems pretty evident in Spider's arc as well, but you just asked about Neytiri and this is already long as hell lol. Thank you so so much for asking!!

I swear, sometimes people will use literally any excuse to villainize c!Tommy compared to c!Dream. It's wacky.

I keep seeing takes saying that "c!Tommy abused c!Dream" and every time, I just sit there like... "we watching the same streams? The same Dream SMP? The same Tommyinnit and Dreamwastaken?" Because you have to have a very strange interpretation of a piece of media to try and convince others that a victim was abusing their abuser, or that a victim and their abuser are both "just as bad."

Like, no?? c!Tommy was not "psychologically abusing" c!Dream when he was expressing his distaste for the legitimate abuse that c!Dream did to him that nearly drove him to suicide. Someone killing their own cat, even though their abuser liked the cat, in front of their abuser does not make them a terrible awful person that it's okay to literally brutally beat to death (especially considering the amount of pets that c!Dream had killed solely to upset others with little to no immediate consequence). I'm not an expert on abuse, so take this next part with a grain of salt, but usually in abusive situations there is a significant power imbalance between the abuser and the victim, that gives the abuser an advantage over their victim and allows them to abuse/hurt their victim. There was no large power that c!Tommy held over c!Dream in the prison that he used to purposefully hurt him for the sake of his own gain, like how c!Dream was able to abuse c!Tommy in exile due to the power imbalance. Yet people claim that c!Tommy was "abusing c!Dream" in the prison? Like, not only is it kind of disgusting to try and frame a situation where a victim was abusing their abuser, but like, all in all, c!Tommy just wasn't? He wasn't abusing c!Dream, that's just, something that didn't happen.

Like, if you really want to talk about c!Dream in a sympathetic manner and how he's been hurt in the past, can you at least talk about people who legitimately hurt him? People who legitimately have power over him and use it to hurt him? Not the literal child who was abused by him for weeks on end and now obviously dislikes him and understandably lets him know? Who has always been at least on equal footing with him if not in a position of significantly less power that gives c!Dream an advantage over him that he can exploit? Something that he has rarely, if ever, had over c!Dream?

Like, it's strange and confusing to see these takes and also just super uncomfortable at the same time. Like, it's not the whole fandom, it's only a select few people but can we all just, please stop victimblaming abuse victims for maybe 5 freaking minutes? Is that possible? Is that something we can do?

Enji, sweetheart, I know your in shock about your dead son not being dead and that you're literally on death's door, but Shouto is going to fucking die if you don't move your ass. I'm not mad and I understand why you're not doing anything right now. But, and I mean this in the nicest way possible, i would sacrifice you in a heartbeat if it meant saving Shouto's life. Don't get me wrong, I like your character a lot, but you dying would be a nice end to your redemption arc if you end up saving Shouto. And at this point I honestly don't care about what happens to Dabi. He's trying to kill my son. Fuck that guy lol. Doesn't mean I don't like him tho.

Why are people defending this guy again? Cause of his trauma? Don't get me wrong, I like Dabi as much as the next guy but if his death means Shouto gets to live, I don't have a problem with that either. Dabi and Enji are in the same boat.

Also Izuku is thinking about how his arms and legs don't have any strength like that's the only thing wrong with them. He'd be lucky if he can even move them when all of this is over.

Izuku yells "You are not Endeavour" and Dabi responds with "No shit, Sherlock" and asks if Izuku pities him even a little bit and I wouldn't fault him for straight up saying "No" considering everything Dabi has put him and his friends through. Hell, if I was Midoriya I wouldn't even be trying to get through to him rn. A trait I strongly admire about Izuku. Dabi goes on to say he is the culmination of all of Endeavour's sins and we get a panel showing threads snapping and I don't know if it's supposed to be what's left of Izuku's mental stability or Dabi's. Or if it's an actual thread snapping. Dabi goes on to spout some bullshit about how evil will never prosper and justice will crumble now that he's shown the naive citizens of Japan who to blame, which is the heroes apparently.

Uhhh so that snapping thread I mentioned earlier is actually the carbon fibre wire Jeanist is using to keep Machia contained and like all of them just snapped like twigs. Dabi continues his speech about how chaos now reigns supreme while everyone panics about Machia. Meanwhile Deku is having a moment.

Correction, Endeavour was the one having a moment and has decided to take action despite his obvious condition called dying. He rockets his way towards Machia and bitch slaps him in the face and immediately follows that up by saying he feels numb. He totally gonna die and I'm totally gonna feel sad about it. I'm already tearing up.

FUCKING FINALLY GOD DAMNIT

I knew it was gonna work. Never doubt my gurl Creati. She's the smartest kid in class for a reason. It feels like it took forever but it was probably only a few mins. I can't wait for everything to go wrong again. Also, everyone who thinks Endeavour is either going to die or, end up with a debilitating disability, raise your hand 🙋. Mans suffering from the most severe case of heat stroke to ever stroke and is running on burnt lungs and he was impaled by Shigaraki/AFO. He's not having a fun time.

I think it's safe to say that Eri won't healing anyone after this. It looks like all her quirks energy went into giving Mirio his quirk. Meaning all these injuries that the heroes are getting won't be magically disappearing. Aizawa isn't getting his leg back, Izuku's arms are probably never gonna work again, Gran Torino is fucking dead just like Endeavour's career, and Endeavour is probably gonna fucking die too. Cause Shouto doesn't have enough trauma in his life.

Time for me to venture into the tags and see what the latest discourse is. Can't wait for everyone to call Izuku an abuser sympathiser even tho he called out Endeavour during the sports, or say that the heroes are somehow abusing Eri like Overhaul did cause she gave Mirio his quirk back even tho she clearly wanted to do it. The chaos fuels me.
