Why do Writers Ruin Good TV Endings?! JUST WHY!?!?!

I have no idea what ending was worse GOT or The 100! Both final seasons were rushed, Several characters were wronged, their arcs destroyed!! KILLED BY THE ONES THEY LOVED AND FOR WHAT!?!?! 😭

Bellarke deserves so much fucking better for so many reason. The final season was utter garbage, rushed, and made no sense. Same for GOT. And while I personally thought Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen were strange after discovering their blood ties, they still did not deserve that ending!!

It made no sense to have her kill the innocence of Kings Landing, it literally went back on everything she fought for. I understand she lost so much but damn this season made no fucking sense.

And the way Drogon was so upset he melted the fucking throne! Like he KNEW what was to blame for his mother’s fate and he MELTED THE IRON FUCKING THRONE! Then he flew away with her and I- 😭 😭

STEVE & BUCKY'S LOVE STORY, UNABRIDGED SOMEWHAT ABRIDGED, part 2/3 (here is part 1)

picking up from where we left off:

some 65 years into the future, steve's plane is fished out of the ice, and they find him, frozen like a sexy hot-dayum popsicle, but still alive thanks to the same super serum that made him go from Smol to Lorge.

steve is thus brought back into the world, but it's a world he no longer recognizes after all these years; a world where all the people he used to know and love are long dead, and his own face has been turned into a tool for propaganda over the years. obviously, he has a hard time adjusting, and he turns to fighting again, joining this group of kinda possibly superheroes, aka the avengers.

lots of exciting new things happen, sure; but steve is still pretty miserable. until one day, a mysterious masked assassin dressed in bondage gear (but not really), and sporting one very shiny metal arm (!!!!), is sent to kill steve's sort-of-boss. and then to kill steve himself. oh no!!

in what is possibly the most gripping, most visually pleasing hand-to-hand fight sequence in the history of cinema,

(NO BUT SERIOUSLY, all jokes aside, if you've never watched it then please do bc it's!!! *shrieks* so fucking good!!!)

a fight sequence which also happened to unlock both steve's and an entire fandom's competence kink with that little sexy knife-flipping trick alone -- i know you know what i'm talking about, don't you lie to me babes--

as i was saying, steve manages to knock the mask off of his opponent's face. and who do you think appears before him? can you guess??

DING DING DING!!! EXACTLY!!! IT'S HIS LONG-LOST BAE BUCKY! who apparently doesn't recognize him??

confused and upset, steve fights to uncover the truth. turns out, the man is indeed the very same bucky he grew up with and loved. only, he didn't actually die in that tragic fall in the ravine; rather, due to the experiments performed on him while he was a war prisoner, he survived long enough to be found and captured by the enemy. who then proceeded to torture and brainwash him, using him as a tool for murder against his will, and literally putting him back in the freezer when they didn't need him.

which, as it happens, is how he stayed so young in the first place: he, uh, spent the better part of 70 years frozen. yeaaah, are the parallels paralleling or what, hmmmm?? preserved in ice like your mom's best lasagna from last week? plunging to a 'death' that isn't really a death? waking up in the future kinda screwed over? :D

ANYWAY

steve is even more devastated than before, now that he's learned that while he was asleep in the ocean, bucky was out there suffering. when he finally confronts bucky again (and it's fucking epic and also fucking heartbreaking, believe you me) steve is desperate to bring bucky, his bucky, back. knowing in his heart that his bae is still somewhere in there, no matter how deeply buried.

in the most critical moment(TM), steve chooses to stay behind, on a plane that's about to fucking blow up around them - just like bucky did for him all those years ago - because if he can't save bucky, then he'd rather die with him.

only, bucky is scared and confused af at the moment, and he attacks steve, because 1) he has a mission after all, he's supposed to kill this guy dammit, and 2) wtf is even going on here??? who IS this man, WHY does he keep saying that they've known each other their whole lives?? and WHY does bucky feel like he's actually seen him somewhere else before?????

AND HERE IS THE PIVOTAL MOMENT OF ALL PIVOTAL MOMENTS: for the first time in his life, steve refuses to fight back. like he literally drops his shield out of the plane and into the river underneath, in a very powerful and symbolic gesture, signifying his surrender: he's not going to hurt bucky anymore, no matter what. THIS FUCKER LITERALLY LETS BUCKY BEAT HIM TO A PULP, WITHOUT EVEN TRYING TO DEFEND HIMSELF, 100% ready to let bucky kill him if that's what's gonna happen here, because that's still better than living in a world where bucky's gone - a world where bucky will look at him and only see a target, or a stranger at best.

and then!!!!

no this is like, this is THE most romantic shit, okay, like you could try to convince me that it isn't for the next hundred years and i wouldn't buy it, because. BECAUSE.

at the very last moment, steve finally manages to break through bucky's brainwashing, breaking the metaphorical spell bucky was under. and do you know how he does that? i ask you, do you know how steve does that, my love?

by repeating to bucky the very same words bucky offered him way back in the beginning, when he proposed asked steve to move in together. till death do us part the end of the line, baby. romeo could NEVER

bucky, who was about to deal the fatal blow, freezes instantly, finally recognizing the man under him.

and when steve falls out of the plane, bucky jumps after him, instinctively saving his life instead.

but bucky can't stay. confused, wounded, vulnerable, and only just beginning to remember who he used to be and what was done to him, he slips away and hides from steve - and from all the other people who might be looking for him, and probably want him dead. you think this is gonna stop steve, though?? now that he knows that bucky is still alive, and that he remembers him??? now that he knows that bucky's not lost to him forever?? AS IF!!

Ok. Here we go so buckle up kids!

1. They ignored or forgot the story line. What was the point of drawing SO FREAKING BLATANT MANY parallels between Luz/Hunter and Evelyn/Caleb if you were going to just say "F it!"?! I mean they dragged the freaking thing out into the semi-final episode and made such a huge freaking deal about the Grimwalker and Belos being a Witch Hunter Reveals for nada!

2. So I guess bullying and harassment is ok now? Good to know. I may drop by the Lumity server, who knows. I know two wrongs don't make a right, but the second wrong was the show ignoring this fact and when I have privet messages from people commenting on my fanfictions saying they enjoy them and want to comment but are TOO AFRAID!? You seriously expect me to keep my mouth shut?! Though I probably will not because it'll just give more fuel for their hate, but rants will work nice enough.

3. Not so much as a hand shake or a nod between Luz and Hunter. WTF! You want to talk about ooc! It's pretty damn bad when you do it with your own characters you designed from your own imagination. A line. A. Line. We got a line. Where was at least the friendly hug after the stuff they went through!?

4. Pro Tip: sacrificing plot and story telling for making a point is the dumbest most fatal flaw ever for a writer. Especially when there were other ways, or you have other ways, you've made your point. Raine and Eda. Amity and Willow. Lilith.

5. Acid Rain? Thats how you kill off Belos? ACID RAIN!? Oh wait..... No sorry let me correct myself.....you kill off Belos by melting him with Acid Rain and then STOMPING ON HIM! It would have been better if you just let The Collector smush him in King's Tide for good!

6. I get it but that fight should have been Luz and Hunter VS Belos! It makes sense but this show goes against everything that makes sense sooooo....yeah. But he could have at least been present there.

7. Where is the romantic drama? They had everything for multiple occasions of romantic drama and nada!?

8. Flapjack's headstone. "Thank you for finding me.", um it was actually Luz that introduced Hunter to Flapjack right? Did I miss something there?

9. Um King's dad's forms didn't match. Am I missing something?

10. They stuck with Lumity. Grant it I really wasn't expecting much given FTF, but I did have a smidgen of hope and to have that yanked out too hurts. I still want to know what Willow did significant for Hunter that Luz didn't do first and want to know what one on one time they got on screen without Gus.

11. So you only gave Hunter Waffles so he could play Flyer Derby and be with Willow right? For some reason thats where my head is.

12. Where the hell was Evelyn!?

13. Human-Titan Hybrid Luz. Sooooo what was the point of gaining Flap's powers and Stringbean if they were going to just do the make-protagonist-a-temp-hybrid thing?

Okay, so I get that I think Tamsyn has said that while you can draw some clear parallels (Gideon is Female Dave, Harrow is Rose, Ianthe is Vriska), obviously Homestuck and TLT aren't one to one, in the same way that the two other big Would Not Exist Without Homestuck pieces of media, Kill Six Billion Demons and Undertale/Deltarune aren't one to one with it either. That being said. I would like to submit. Isaac is Tavros.

😭 that's so mean. to isaac. wtf.

i don't really see it but let me counter with:

babs is the tavros. obviously i've posted before about how his personality/aesthetic is similar to cronus ampora, but if you think about his relationship with ianthe, i feel like there's definitely some similarities to tavros and vriska.

now ianthe "being a vriska" is something i have a LOT of thoughts about, which i will. probably write out at some point. mainly, while they share surface level plot points and arm deficits, their motivations are very different. i've been holding off tho bc there's a lot we still don't know abt ianthe's motivations while the series is still unfinished. but in general, vriska is a child who has no idea what she's doing and just wants to be safe (although she thinks she wants to be important - and she does, but because she thinks that if she matters enough, she'll stop being vulnerable, both emotionally and physically), whereas ianthe clearly has some actual irons in the fire. (given what little we know about the tridentarii's parents and childhood, i could 100% see ianthe trying to protect herself in a similar way, but we just don't know enough to be sure.)

but to compare babs and tavros:

both the "some guy" wedged in between some very toxically codependent girlies

both killed (run through) with their own weapon by their counterpart in a mysterious facility during a very tense afternoon

you can't tell me that if it was relevant, vriska wouldn't be happy to chew on tavros (use his body for what she's trying to do)

both an intimate part of their counterpart's ascension, in opposite ways

that last point is the most interesting to me, because vriska's ascension involved her own death and ianthe's ascension involved babs's. vriska begged tavros to kill her, and he would not, leaving her to die alone and in pain, whereas ianthe had no qualms about killing babs. as we learn in the unwanted guest, babs's soul has had an effect on ianthe's - they are fusing, in a sense. compare that to the very brief existence of tavrissprite, whose constituent parts could not reconcile and merge. in the end, vriska has always been both obsessed and disgusted with tavros because the world has allowed him to be soft, and kind, and nonviolent - all things that she was never given the chance to be. whereas for ianthe and babs, they have always been fighting side by side, concealing corona's secret and managing third house high society.

so essentially, babs is a tavros who has been strong and active enough to both protect and support his counterpart. while ianthe killed babs because she needed power for whatever she has planned, and she is always going to prioritize coronabeth over anything and anyone else, she had no real beef with him and saw him as, if not an ally, then at least a means to an end whom she didn't mind being bitchy with in the meantime. meanwhile vriska killed tavros not out of necessity or duress, but because he had betrayed and abandoned her at her moment of greatest need and vulnerability, and then decided to be her enemy.

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR OFMD S2 EP6-7 under the cut

Ok, that was A LOT. I have so many feelings but no coherence so i'm gonna do this bullet point form but def not in order, just in order of me remembering wtf happened lol

-IZZY AND WEE JOHN IN DRAG!!!!! Wee John looked STUNNING with that Divine-esque appearance and Izzy had that transmasc drag king kind of thing going on (iykyk) that made me love him even more

-Izzy singing LA VI EN ROSE took me tf out!!! i'm glad he got to finish it after the *ahem* distractions bc Con's voice is so beautiful I could listen to it forever. We better get it in the album!!! Also someone posted the lyrics translated and i cannot get over the lyrics:

-But not only was he singing the second half had fucking gentlebeard doing the dirty in the next room asdfghjkl which.....was hot, ngl. The passion was electrifying. I'm sorta glad we didnt rlly see it with everything that happened after bc it all kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.

-But in all seriousness i feel like this whole thing in ep 7 was such a parallel to s1 but also a very necessary bit of conflict in their journey together that was bound to happen. THey want different things and neither is wrong or right for that. Stede did react poorly tho but like he just had sex w the love of his life, his first man, and Ed the very next day is like "aight i'm out". I'd be pissed too. After killing someone which we know is a big trigger for him historically.

But Ed also had a valid reaction. He's wanted to retire for a while and stede knows this but it hasn't seemed to have sunk in quite yet. He fears that Stede only sees Blackbeard and...its fair of him to have that impression tbh. These are two messy, traumatized dudes who have never had a real relationship and there's gonna be bumps. I hope we get s3 so we can better explore that like Djenks wants.

Fr though in order for the Empire to already have so many asshole officers at the ready, the non-clone part of the military must have been rotten during the Republic already

Thoughts on e8-e10 of The Terror

(The final entry in my posting saga)

I went in expecting expecting literally everyone to die on this "doomed" expedition. So in that sense, Crozier and Silna surviving meant that things weren't as bad as they could have been. But also... holy shit, Jopson's death was heartbreaking. The fact that he didn't know what happened to Crozier and so he thought he'd been abandoned by his captain was so incredibly tragic. And undeserved! Like I'd argue that Jopson probably dies in a worse way than basically anyone else in the series (maaaaybe not Sir John, but Sir John also got some karmic retribution for disrespecting Silna's dad and for putting everyone's lives at risk). So WHY did Johnson have to die alone, in pain, and thinking he'd been left behind by the man he cared about most? I am so upset by this.

Thoughts on some other deaths:

Goodsir's was not as sad for me when it happened—he at least got to kind of choose how it happened, and it seemed like he'd at least accomplish saving Crozier. Ultimately it seemed like it didn't do that much though, and Silna's reaction to seeing his body was also heartbreaking.

Fitzjames's was sad, but in a more heartwarming way? At least he got to die with someone he cared about next to him. I definitely understand people shipping Crozier/Fitzjames now.

Gibson's death I think I had spoiled a while ago, so my main takeaway was that it was less gay than I expected. Like, it was still reasonably gay, but I expected it to be very gay. The thing that gets me is that I'm not sure whether or not Hickey did it out of love (Goodsir had just explained to Gibson that he was going to die from illness eventually but that he would suffer PAINFULLY first) or pragmatism, because Hickey wasn't in the tent when Goodsir gave the diagnosis. Did he overhear it and want to keep Gibson from suffering? Or was it actually just that Goodsir said that Gibson couldn't haul? Characters having already canonically fucked does NOT stop me from wanting to analyze the homoeroticism of their subsequent scenes.

I feel like the Crozier/Fitzjames death scene and the Hickey/Gibson one were explicit parallels of each other, given that Crozier also mercy killed Fitzjames (massaging the poison down his throat) and Fitzjames tried to get Crozier to eat him. TBH I kind of feel like Crozier should have indeed done so—given that Team Hickey ended up finding Fitzjames's body anyway, it's likely that he got eaten regardless. Surely one wouldn't want other men to be the ones to eat their boyfriend, right? (Relatedly, Fitzjames saying "Use my body!" also sent my mind in directions away from the seriousness of the scene.)

Speaking of scenes where someone sadly and homoerotically holds their BF, the Bridgens/Peglar stuff was also sad and sweet. Probably if I rewatch the series and actually pay attention to them more earlier, it would be even more so.

Now I'm sad about Jopson's death again because he was all alone and abandoned. :'(

Also it's sad that Little died without ever being able to tell Crozier that he TRIED to rescue him. I initially thought that Crozier legitly wanted the men to go south, so the fact that he'd been misleading Team Hickey and had actually been counting on Little to rescue him was tragic.

Blanky’s death seemed like the happiest—he got to finally discover the Northwest Passage, while wearing his WTF fork outfit. Good for him, that badass deserved something cool.

My friend that I was watching with hates Hickey now and so was happy when he died. I was fully expecting Hickey's crazy murder schemes to come up at some point and so my opinion on Hickey didn't change that much. I do think it would have felt weird for the plot to *not* have Hickey die though.

Speaking of Hickey, some obligatory Hickeyposting:

I love how he somehow manages to be comic relief in addition to being the primary villain. I laughed my ass off at the reveal that he murdered a guy and stole his identity completely unnecessarily, out of a mistaken impression he'd get to summer in the Caribbean. Also the scene where he started singing while all of his men were panicking about the Tuunbaq was black comedy hilarious.

Way before this episode, I saw some shots of him with a noose around his neck. I assumed I'd been spoiled for his death scene. Then I saw those shots tagged as being from e8, and I figured that I probably hadn't been. I was correct! (Later I got spoiled on the real death.)

Crazy as he is, I feel like he had to have been like, "Wow, um, okay," when Crozier's approach to cannibalism was to cut off and eat Goodsir's raw, calloused, foot skin.

I didn't initially appreciate how TINY he is. There was a scene where he was standing in between Gibson and someone else and he was just soooo much shorter than both of them. So brave of the creators to canonically make him a top.

I expected him to kill more people. I think Gibson might have even been the only person he *directly* murdered in these three episodes? He definitely caused quite a lot of trouble though.

I think I got trolled into thinking that the Tunbaaq would die from choking on Hickey's evil evil soul, rather than choking on a literal chain. Whoops.

I was surprised that Hickey didn't bring up more audience-compelling points during his hanging speech. Or maybe I was surprised that Crozier was as straightforwardly good as he turned out to be? I think it might've been cool if Hickey had been able to call out Crozier on real flaws, rather than mistakenly interpreting his plan to resign and lead a team south as something selfish.

I forgot what a pleasure it is to watch bad media. It just releases me totally from any need to respect artistic direction.

Netflix recommended I watch My Happy Marriage. According to Netflix, the plot is

that a girl who has been very abused (emotionally, forced labor, etc) for not having a magical gift is assigned by her dick family to marry Incredibly Prettyboy Kudo, who is from a great magical family, has a strong gift, and oh yes, just happens to be 80s fantasy levels of pretty. Oh, and he keeps losing fiancees, rumor has it they're dead.

It takes them an entire episode to establish that this betrothal is going to happen, and it takes Prettyboy less than an episode to figure out his latest fiancee is abused. They have this hilarious meetcute where he's all, "I expect you to obey every command I give. If I say die, you die" and she goes, "Oh yes of course thank you for explaining the rules in advance."

So in my head, they're scions of magical families whose gifts are utterly useless because the demon beings they're supposed to combat have been effectively wiped out already. They are trying to justify their existence in defending from magical attacks, but all of the magical attacks at this point are just families vying among each other for supremacy. Prettyboy as a scion takes this duty very seriously, possibly because he's inbred and not too bright, since he also takes very seriously the oath he swore never to give his father any grandkids.

The oath was in return for his own abusive upbringing, which was more on the lines of 'you're not good enough, train harder, privations' extremes, which sort of. Fell apart when they put him into military academy and he met all these other scions who are just so lazy and entitled. So he went home and killed his dad, and feels much better about life for having done so.

The oath was also because he's hella gay. He's being deliberately ridiculous about his rules for his wife because it gets rid of fiancees pretty quickly. He's actually screwing his aide - they're not in love, but the aide loooveeesss when he hears a new fiancee is coming because he gets dicked down so good when the fiancee runs off. So new fiancee comes, and Prettyboy goes, "Yep, uh huh, die if I say s- did you just agree?"

Meanwhile Friendly Serving Woman is giving every kind of wink she can manage to tell the Young Master to marry this girl, because when Protagonist arrived she gave Serving Woman a very innocent, very gay once over, and Serving Woman went, "Fan-tastic, this is the perfect woman for Prettyboy."

Side details include:

-Prettyboy cannot drive. Oh, he can keep the car on the road, but the reason they stopped by his workplace with the car? was so he could make his aide park it. He lives in terror of parallel parking. (He is in fact pretty bad at anything except magic and stamping his signature on papers.) -Every time Prettyboy tells of his aide for flirting with his wife, it's because he's having a really wtf moment about his boyfriend flirting with his platonic fiancee. Aide is of course doing this on purpose. -IT'S SO CUTE that protagonist decided to celebrate their relationship by inviting her future husband's boyfriend over for dinner -At some point they are going to go burn down Protagonist's family's house as a fun couple's outing. This will probably involve the awakening of Protagonist's latent Protagonist Magic, which is apparently going to be mind control? so maybe they'll make the parents burn it down for them. -Prettyboy is starting to regret killing his dad, pre-awakening of latent gifts. He really wishes he could summon his dad's spirit to say, "So you know how I told you I'd never give you Gifted grandkids? Well not only will I not be giving you any, but I will not be giving them to you with a woman who, herself, does not have a Gift." It would be so rewarding. Alas, necromancy is not in his impressive portfolio of Gifts. -when Protagonist's magic starts to awaken, he hopes a bit for necromancy

well, when I was trying to come up with the name of tommy's city I knew it was by the river and it's a port city so I wanted it to be related to water in a sense, but I still wanted it to sound more medievalish. Val is a shortened form of Vale/Valley, and broek is just me doing a weird spelling of brook. so it technically is just 'river valley'

it was so fun planning out the culture/fashion differences between the capital and the riverlands. like, there isn't a huge amount of difference, but nobility in the capital and along the coastline are usually kept up to date with the latest fashion trends and the like, and also the weather at the capital and along the coast is different than it is further inland in the riverlands. since they don't have the coastal regulation, it gets much warmer in the summer and much cooler in the winter there compared to the coastal cities. so that also affects the fashion trends.

lol thank you I try very hard to keep everyone in character while throwing them into these wildly different situations. I don't know why I have a thing for making jack a royal guard it just fits him, but as I'm sure you can already tell rose!jack is very different from stars!jack who are both extremely different from glass!jack while all still being forms of c!jack. it's a fun nuance for me to play with.

I definitely wanted to show how unprepared tommy is for this sort of court life. he's 13 and bloodline wise isn't anywhere close to the throne. this isn't something he was ever taught to expect as a possibility. once again just emphasizes how much of an out of left field choice this was for sam to make.

eli had the idea for the bit of clingyduo pulling that shit in court. it was so funny I couldn't not include it.

I'm sure you can guess but uh, while he might be a sweet kid now tommy is going to be very different by the end of this fic. :)

wilbur logically knows he needs to try and befriend tommy for his own benefit but he is nothing if not petty and dramatic

thank you icy I'm so glad you're enjoying so far!! these first few chapters feel so slow for me to write as the author because I know what comes next and how things ramp up, but I'm glad it's really enjoyable so far

going to take the opportunity to ramble about the wip I’m probably not going to finish for at least a year, The Unburied!

ok so this is going to be a multi-chapter longfic covering those 30 years between Fëanor’s host and Fingolfin’s arriving in Beleriand. The POV characters are Maglor and Fingon.

basic premises that made me want to write this:

Tolkien wtf that was THIRTY YEARS and you skipped over it in a paragraph???

no seriously they spent THIRTY YEARS crossing the ice???

you can’t make me feel sad about Elenwë dying when I literally found out she existed at the same moment that she died, this is a crime I want to feel sad about her

also about everyone else who died so I’m going to make up a bunch of OCs and then kill them

also Argon!!

so that was how the Helcaraxë arc was born. But also Maglor is my favourite character and the thirty years he was left in charge of the Noldor are so fascinating – so then I wanted to write a fic exploring how that went, and specifically to really dig into why he chose not to rescue Maedhros.

the lightbulb moment, a couple of months ago when I started writing, was that these could be the same story, that you could have some classic beautiful romantic Russingon coexisting with a tender and loving brotherly relationship between Maedhros and Maglor (I do not see enough of this in fic and my mission is to fix this. I love both relationships! I want to see them both!!)

but obviously this is going to be technically difficult, which is why I’m only 2ish chapters into writing the thing. My two main characters aren’t going to meet for the duration of the fic, which starts just before Fëanor’s host leaves with the ships and ends with the battle of the Lammoth and Argon’s death. So what I plan to do (and hopefully can accomplish) is draw tons of thematic links between the two halves of the story, and also to keep the stakes of the Mithrim arc, which is basically a political story, compatible with those of the gritty survivalism of the Helcaraxë arc.

this is AMBITIOUS. I’ve been writing regularly and seriously for pretty much half my life, and this is one of the more challenging projects I’ve given myself (also I have never, in my life, finished a longfic. yeah not once. it’s a serious issue.)

On the other hand, the first scene I wrote is actually imo one of the loveliest things I’ve ever written. For a full week after writing it I kept the document open so I could look at it and smile whenever I wanted to. Then I wrote the important parallel scene to it which I love just as much, and that makes me smile too. So I am determined to finish the fic.

volume 2 thoughts

ok so. byler never had to become canon in season 4. yes it would have been nice and probably would have been the better choice if they do ever end up going canon but it’s not queerbait just because they didn’t go canon in season 4.

but the way they handled will’s storyline in volume 2 makes me fucking sick. even if byler never went canon and will was another robin, is that seriously how they’re going to treat their queer characters? will giving mike pep talks about el and taking a backseat whenever mike and el are onscreen? if they make that whole-ass “you can tell me anything” scene and then don’t have will ever come out i’m quitting the show.

they’ve built up byler sooooo much over the past years, not only in the show but also in interviews and on social media. the fact that we’re still dealing with this in 2022 is fucking sickening and i’ve honestly lost all confidence that byler will become canon because of the fucking finale. “will and mike have a moment of mutual understanding and acceptance” WHERE??? WHERRRRRE IS THAT MOMENT? when will says “el will love you” and then cries? when el and mike kiss and will stares sadly at them from the kitchen??

and then they make that ONE SINGULAR robin/vickie scene at the end like “ohhhh look at us we support gay people! there are lesbians, look at them! one of them doesn’t even impact the plot but they’re there!”

mike’s entire storyline this season culminating in him saying “ily” to el makes me want to throw up and also why did they lowkey make his love confession scene parallel his “you said yes” scene? like there was literally no reason to do that.

and eddie??? why did they kill eddie off Like That? it was so predictable and they literally showed it in the fucking trailer? they’re obviously trying to pull some “oh look he didn’t run away! he actually WAS a hero! but so sad he didn’t get to graduate!! this was supposed to be his year :(((” but that’s literally what all the eddie fans were saying this past month so why did they give him this cookie-cutter ass death? if they were gonna kill him off they could have had him sacrifice himself to save an actual person, instead of just dying alone covered in bats. and why were dustin and wayne the only ones to react to eddie’s death? steve nancy robin mike and erica all knew eddie really well. even max and lucas were on good terms with him. i get that they couldn’t show a funeral or anything because hawkins fuckin hates eddie, but they could have had a dustin-and-wayne scene for the entire group.

fuck stancy. it doesn’t matter if you think they’re cute or not all this “will they won’t they” is dumb as shit and it’s not fair to jonathan, nancy, or steve. either get them together or have them stay just friends but what they are now is fucking annoying.

russia gang was cute i liked the jopper scenes. but it feels like they took up so much unnecessary screentime?

oh and another byler thing why tf did they do that with the painting?? it didn’t have to be will and mike making out or anything but the fact that will’s gesture of love to mike ended up propping up milkvan is just cruel.

max and lucas were neat is was fun to finally see jason get his ass handed to him but wtf is up with max? it’s kinda repetitive to make her almost die twice like that. again, just kill her and get it over with or keep her alive. i truly don’t have the energy to “wait and see” if she’ll live.

all in all i LOVED volume 1. it was fun, it was scary, it was everything i wanted in a tv show and made me excited for volume 2. but volume 2 was a HUGE letdown. there were some good moments like the gang stealing the camper, the will/el hug, and hopper reuiniting with el, but other than that i kinda hated it. it felt heavy on useless running around and fighting but lacked any real character depth, and the way they handled will’s storyline was fucking cruel. i kept sitting there thinking “okay they’ve just laid the groundwork for an amazing scene, i just have to be patient enough and wait for the show to get good.” and then it never did.

i commented in the tags of somebody else’s post a few days ago that whenever we get queer representation, it’s either a stereotyped queer in a show for cishets or a well-written queer in a show for queer people. stranger things had the chance to do both, to write a story about 2 gay childhood best friends falling in love. and they fucking didn’t. i was naive for expecting good representation, and i guess from now on i’ll only watch shows if i know how the queer characters end up because i’m telling you right now i CANNOT deal with another 2 years of will’s sexuality being “left up to interpretation” and then getting a season where he kinda just hangs out and cries and never confirms anything. i fucking hate it here.

fuck netflix, fuck the duffers, fuck every single one of the cast members who teased byler in season 4, and fuck all of the social-media managers posting about byler. i fucking hate all of you.

That episode wasn’t nearly as good as it sounded in the spoilers. The spoilers made it sound like it would be more about Ollie’s funeral. Instead, the episode focused mainly on Faith, and on the show STILL asking us to view her as a good, sympathetic person AFTER SHE LITERALLY TRIED TO STRANGLE A TEENAGE BOY FOR MAKING A MISTAKE. What the FUCK.

I’m convinced the show and the fandom would let Faith get away with literal murder at this point. I mean, hell, she nearly did tonight - all her yelling about how Tristan could’ve killed Natalia through what he was doing, but Tristan didn’t know how dangerous it was. Faith DID. She knew full well that she could have SERIOUSLY hurt Tristan or possibly even killed him. And she didn’t CARE.

So, fandom - am I allowed to call Faith an abuser yet? Do I get to do that? Or will any tweet I make calling her an abuser continue to get me endless replies from Faith fans saying I’m being overdramatic and all her actions ever have been 100% justified? Probably the latter. They forgave her for attempted rape and gladly victim-blame Lev for it. They’ll forgive her for this.

How fucking much can the show let her get away with? Trying to rape Lev. Outing Lev in front of all of his colleagues. Using Dylan, tricking him into thinking she loved him when she actually just wanted to use him for revenge on Lev. Neglecting her kids enough that one of them got kidnapped and nearly molested. Falsely accusing a patient of raping his wife a few months back. Bullying a grieving father for actions his son did that he had no part in. And now strangling a teenager. Faith is literally a criminal and an abuser. And everyone’s fine with it because she happens to be an attractive, white woman. (Seriously - can you imagine any of the women of colour the show has had doing even one of these things and getting away with it, let alone the whole list? No. And we know they wouldn’t, because Tina is right there, and was rightfully portrayed as a horrible person for her abuse of Jacob. Whereas Faith is portrayed as sympathetic. WTF is this double standard, Casualty??)

It comes to something that Faith’s 17-year-old daughter has more common sense than her - the scene where Faith was screaming at David and Natalia had to step in and beg her mum to stop... poor Natalia, she’s not the one who should be acting the role of the parent here.

Anyway, moving onto David’s storyline. Jason Durr is as brilliant as ever. I’m going to keep saying this: give Jason Durr a BAFTA. He’s incredible. Casualty are so lucky to have him.

Dylan setting up Ollie’s funeral on David’s behalf was so sweet. Honestly, even if you don’t ship them romantically (which I didn’t before but the Johnrik parallels are kind of starting to get to me...), I think we all have to agree that David and Dylan are soulmates of some kind at this point. I’m glad they’re getting scenes again, even if I wish it wasn’t in a storyline like this.

(Also, they continue to strongly parallel my Johnrik fics.)

The scene with David and the little girl in the cupboard... gah. By far the best part of the episode. Genuinely made me cry, that scene did.

Speaking of the little girl, though, I’m not really sure what the point of her story was... well I know the point was so David could be recognised by the parent (again, I’ve written a fic where Henrik was recognised as Fredrik’s dad before!) and then have the conversation in the cupboard, but still.

And the ending of the episode, with David walking away from the church... :(

Also, moral of the story tonight: don’t play with swords, kids. It’s not a good idea. 🤣

I’m pretty sure there’s no episode next week, though there’s supposed to be a double episode on the 16th. See you all for another Casualty review then. In the meantime, I think I’ll be making some David/Dylan gifs.

I'm conflicted about the whole Mileven/Byler dilemma b/c I've been a Mileven girl since the beginning but hey, whatever happens in Vol 2., happens.

House of the dragon spoilers (rant/review idk)

I just finished watching and I'm mad, wtf was that ending, like I understand that the war is supposed to be a whole event and that was the main focus for the show, but seriously they couldn't have at least started it in this episode like obviously it wouldn't make sense for the whole thing to be on one episode and there wouldn't be enough time but the way it ended made it feel like there's gonna be more this season, it didn't feel like a season finale, and the fact that we are gonna have to wait years to see the rest ugh I hate it.

But now I wanna talk about the actual episode, first of all, I cannot believe ONE EPISODE was able to make me go back to hating Daemon all over again, like seriously wtf was that.

And now onto the most important part Rhaenyra, wow Emma D'Arcy the person you are, they have carried this show and given such an amazing performance every time, idk what it is with them and scenes where Rhaenyra is giving birth but they always give their all on those at least that's what it feels like there's just something about the way that they act during those scenes that is just amazing, during episode 6 with the birth of Joffrey they were able to show such a painful obviously but also happy (?) I'm not sure if that's the right word but I'm going with it I think you get it, maybe tender?? Idk, but this one just completely broke my heart it was great to see how one actor portrayed the same type of scene but completely different as in they were able to actually, get across their feelings so well and obviously I can only speak for myself but I thought they were amazing in that scene (and many more) and it genuinely gave me goosebumps not gonna lie. Now that the first season is over I can finally say something that I already have been saying a lot but now there's even more reasons, Emma was the perfect casting for Rhaenyra, maybe I'm biased on this next bit bc of how much I love Rhaenyra but for me Emma stole the spotlight every time they were on screen. And omg that little parallel with episode 2 I think with the scene on the bridge and Rhaenyra with her dragon I loved it so much.

And now onto the other sad part Lucerys, I knew he was gonna die and how, but I did not think that was gonna be Aemond's reaction, and idk if that's how it was in the books or if they changed it, but I really thought Aemond would kill Lucerys on purpose but in my opinion I think you can clearly see that it was an accident somehow they both lost control of their dragons and Aemond couldn't do anything and he looked genuinely shocked, if that reaction was bc he killed Lucerys and that's not what he wanted so he was upset or if it was bc he was scared of what could happen to him, idk but you could see some regret I feel like, and I still don't hate him, I'm sorry I know people do hate him now but I just dont personally.

Anyway Emma's amazing and they deserve more love and recognition from everyone but unfortunately they still are not getting it and we all know why, I had to add that there bc it still bothers me to no end, that's it, goodbye

Last minute Stranger Things S4 thoughts no one asked for...

Getting the sad stuff out the way first...

I think Murray is kicking it. Along with Brenner (yay) and Owens. I don't know who between the Hawkins group could go. I've been worrying about Jonathan from the Cali group. I think since they said it's a body count, as well as extras, I think we will get some secondary Hawkins characters who've been around since S1/2 going. That'll be sad since I've liked them too (I've been worrying about Karen but what if something happens to Ted and then she gets in the know about stuff. She has her own poster and was front and centre with the parents).

Ok, onto some other stuff.

I'm really excited for characters to get Vecna'd only because we get a look at what's going on in their head and they address all they've been through.

Will...SO MUCH TO ADDRESS WITH WILL IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY ANYMORE. I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF HE HAS POWERS ALREADY. SERIOUSLY, he's a huge part of kicking off S1 with El AND all the explanations that have to lead back to him having powers. I need them to address this. I want him and El working together like the d&d game. I love their siblings relationship and would like more please.

Will is the most likely to get Vecna'd. He has been THROUGH IT. Taken (NOT K*LLED) to the upside down for a week, possessed by the main creature there which led to deaths of people that he probably feels guilt over, can now sense him, nearly got killed when his house was shot up, has been feeling pushed away AND he's dealing with his sexuality and is probably worried about how people react. Oh, and add having a crappy father to the list. I want to see all that's going on in his head. I'd love it if this awakens his powers. There's so many parallels to him and Henry/One/Vecna. Give me this.

HOPPER AND EL REUNION. I NEED IT LIKE YESTERDAY. I KEPT THINKING SHE WILL LOOK INTO HER VOID AND SEES JOYCE ONLY TO SEE HOPPER BEFORE THEY REUNITE AND MAYBE HOPPER BEING ALIVE IS LIKE A POSITIVE EMOTIONAL POWER BOOST (if anyone is going to give her that let it be hopper). Also El seeing Hopper first is like when Joyce saw him first in the pit. When they reunite and they cry and I cry and El feels a bit better about her hair cause he's shaved too.

I NEED AN EL AND JOYCE INTERACTION. I feel so robbed I'm going to need them to reunite and when Joyce tells her she's sorry for lying to her about where she was, this leads to El admitting she lied to about how school was going and everything that followed. And we get them hugging and El thanks her for bringing her dad home and Hopper is emotional over Joyce taking in his daughter and how well they bonded.

JOPPER. AFTER 6 YEARS THEY ARE HAPPENING. I know they are probably going to make out (probably in the demogorgon pit after taking them out and Joyce saved Hopper) and wearing matching clothes. The way they'll reunite with the others (definitely has to be through a gate at this point) like WTF DID WE MISS and then the others clicking onto them like WTF DID WE MISS. I REALLY GETTING CANON JOPPER. FEELS GREAT.
