yuuta exhibits such previously abandoned, recently adopted dog behavior. incredibly anxious all the time, even though nobody’s out to get him or leave him behind. waits for you to return home or from school or from work excitedly, just to see you when you walk through the door. follows you around senselessly, hovering in your space just for the sake of companionship. initiates affection in prodding ways—starts off next to you, then a hand on your thigh, then deems it safe to lay all the way down, then slowly pushes his head into your lap. gets up whenever you need to get up, and resumes his position as soon as you’re ready. brings you gifts as a sign that he’s thinking of you, and maybe because he likes the affection it brings out in you, maybe because he likes the gentle affirming touches of a hand in his hair or a pinch to his cheek. rests his head on your stomach or his chin on your shoulder when he’s sleepy, stays there, immobile, and will not move unless absolutely necessary. sometimes he gets surprised when he hears you calling for him, there’s a moment of disbelief as he thinks “me? really? you need me?” but it’s very quickly overshadowed by this compulsive need to show up, to please, to do anything for you, which is why he always answers when you call. he doesn’t realize that he has puppygod eyes, especially when he’s excited or confused, but he does and it’s incredible endearing. very reluctant to share your space or attention after a while, considers that to be sacred and he won’t risk being let go or lost again, so as a safety precaution, he keeps himself right by you, waits for you always.

Kentin girlies, all things considered, him being an Alternate Life route was the best possible outcome for us in this whole mess of a game.
He didn't appear in Campus Life and in hindsight it's great because then he didn't suffer the same character slaughter and regression like the others did. He didn't have an OOC moment where he agreed to a threesome with his best friend despite showing jealousy during his entire route. He didn't neglect Candy for a "surprise" that took up his entire time from her and caused her to break up with him. He matured SO much and in a way that made most, if not all, of his flaws toned down and enhanced his qualities (honestly I don't even know if he showed any flaws at all). His grown up sprite is gorgeous. He stayed true to himself and leads a lifestyle that makes him happy rather than spiraling down a catastrophic path for the sake of drama (since AL is only 5 episodes). AND the best part is you don't even get the "opportunity" to cheat on him! So no way for players to pick him purposefully just to get with eric (like most did with Hyun).
Would I have loved to have as much illustrations and interactions and events with him as the CL crushes? Of course, but seeing the way CL and LL were handled and all the terrible scenarios that came with them, I'm thinking maybe Kentin not appearing in the main sequels was a blessing in disguise.

Lightning, water, and fire! Like forever before the plot starts. By the time the plot starts, the lightning and fire deities have been subjected to punishment by the two gods that picked them.
Oh (the fire deity) is first to be punished. They basically decide that since they're going to live for a long time, gotta set some long time goals! And they opt to be the wrath of the gods since most of the other deities are too 'soft' in their opinion. So Oh just. Smites humans. This isn't really a /good/ thing and in their defense mentally, they do it to help Ymber since he's the softest of them all. So their punishment by the gods is to be split in two, effectively halving the power of one into two. (Now they are in a male and a female body and use both male and female pronouns apart since they together make they but apart it feels weird to be they. But prior to the split they use they/them. Also the split bodies go by the names Ohiwe and Ohime.)
Fulj is the second to be punished. She falls in love with a mortal woman and that is a crime according to the gods. Mortals and immortals are not to be together and it will only bring suffering to both sides. So her punishment is her memories of the woman are stripped and her body basically broken to the point she can't remain physical all the time.
Ymber, unfortunately, is the one who blames himself for the discoveries and punishments. If he had only tried to restrain Oh more then maybe they would have chilled out and stopped before being punished. If he had only tried to persuade Fulj to not continue seeing the mortal woman so often perhaps she wouldn't have been punished. So he's just increasing the guilt on his shoulders every day that he remains unpunished since the elder gods have both laid down to rest. They can't enforce their laws anymore and none of the deities are keen on harming one another at this point. They just want to continue existing in peace.

Because if someone DESPERATELY needs a redemption arc, it's Cinder Fall. Cinder, who orchestrated the Fall of Beacon that killed Pyrrha. Cinder, who killed a random civilian trying to help her. Cinder, who every step of the way supported Salem's goals and pushed away the one person who cared about her (Emerald). Cinder, who might as well have killed Penny and knowingly went to kill the whole team. If no one is going to support Cinder, it'll be because she's an asshole. Both her and Tyrian.
You see, you misunderstand. Cinder doesn't "desperately" need a redemption arc, what she desperately needs is the opportunity to allow herself to redeem herself, to finally get away from the cycle of abuse and hate that she's been stuck in. She clings to Salem's plan, going along with everything, including Salem's plan to topple Beacon, trying to justify it to herself that it's necessary in order for her to gain freedom and power. She killed Pyrrha in order to keep hold of the maiden powers she obtained, terrified that she was going to lose them, and killed Penny in an attempt to gain more power, and what she thinks will be more freedom. She pushed Emerald away, because she doesn't know better. The Madam who bought her, and Salem, both abused her to keep her in line.
Redemption isn't some reward that can be given or taken away, Redemption is a choice, one that sometimes needs to be offered in order for someone to see it as another way. Yes, Cinder has killed, went through the plan Salem orchestrated to topple Beacon, and has committed crimes, but none of that means that she's beyond Redemption. The only way she'll ever be beyond Redemption is if she's offered the choice and pushes it away.

A character's motivation should not be a mystery. Their backstory can be a mystery. The depths of their character can be a mystery. But not motivation. If you want us to care, we should know why they're doing what they're doing; we should understand why success is so important to them.
A villain can be a different case. Sometimes, the only motivation you need to know about is "They're evil" or "They work for the bad guys." But if the feud is personal, we should see what makes it personal. Holding the "why" back as a thrilling reveal is almost never as effective as just letting us know from the beginning.
A plot twist gives you one cool moment. Character attachment makes the entire story interesting.

Headcanon that after amsterdam Roy buys phoebe a bike and says he's going to teach her and she's confused at first because the last time she asked her uncle Roy about getting a bike/learning to ride he'd told her cyclists were dickheads and took her gokarting instead and promised driving lessons once she was old enough. So he admits he didn't know how to ride one and didn't want to tell her because he was embarrassed but know he knows how and wants to teach her.
But she of course wants to know how he learnt so he has to tell her about Amsterdam while they wait for the bike to be delivered.
And then it does but he has to assemble it himself and fuck that but phoebe is now dead set on learning to ride a bike so he ends up calling Jamie to come help and the two spend like an hour and a half trying to put it together while Phoebe is watching and roasting them before they throw the parts in the boot and take it to the nearest Halfords to get it put together. But then they end up buying themselves bikes while they're there because Phoebe wants to see her Uncle Roy ride a bike and Jamie has put too much effort into this bike shit to just go home before phoebe's learnt anything other than new swearwords from when Roy's fingers got caught In the spokes while they were trying to put the wheels on.
So the three go to the park and Jamie and Roy teach phoebe to ride a bike and spend the day cycling around and Roy steals Jamie's bike for a while after falling off one too many times and makes him run after phoebe as 'training' while he sits with a pasty and watches his niece ride fucking circles around Jamie Tartt

the fact that ford ultimately breaks down and is about to actually make a deal with bill to spare stan and the kids during weirdmageddon is like...a really powerful moment i think. this man has been trying to hold the line for three decades. but nobody could keep that up forever! it may have taken him longer to crack than it would have taken most people, and ford may be insanely determined and resilient, but in the end, he’s only human. even he has his breaking point and weirdmageddon was it.
stan ended up finishing the job and delivering the final blow not because ford “was never really the hero,” not because ford’s efforts against bill didn’t actually matter, but because ford was worn out. bill’s defeat took a team effort from stan and ford because humans are meant to help and support each other and that’s what makes us great; we’re not meant to carry the weight of the world alone. and when that’s exactly what you’ve been doing for three decades, all to prevent something that ends up happening anyway...anyone would break down at that point.
even the greatest heroes are falliable. even the most perseverant people can be worn down. even the strongest people need other people.
