wait for it
A/N: Hey guys!!! I watched Hamilton again (for like the millionth time) and this idea wormed its way into my brain. Lyrics are from Wait For It by Leslie Odom Jr. from Hamilton. Send requests please!!!!! Enjoy!!!
Hamilton doesn’t hesitate
Anakin cracked his knuckles and stretched his limbs out, fiddling with the hilt in his hands. He gripped his lightsaber like it was a lifeline, pushing down on the button and leaping out into the fight. Shots flew at him but he didn’t care, deflecting as many as he could and more away from him and his troops. He could feel his friends and family around him, and he continued to push forward.
He exhibits no restraint
Determination was thick in the air around him, it was part of him. Anakin Skywalker wasn’t just impulsive and reckless, he was determined. The fight was part of him, it felt natural. Perhaps it was part of his distant primal ways, or perhaps it was the raw Force within him. He would do anything to win the fight, and he usually did.
He takes and he takes and he takes
Anakin continued forward, with more skill and grace than a jaguar, or swan, or any creature. He was a force of determination and fight, and he kept going. He took control of the battlefield, he lost men. He grieved and mourned for their losses, and still he fought.
And he keeps winning anyway
Even when his men died, Anakin was powerful. He didn’t break, he strided forwards. He was striving for something, what, no one was really sure. Perhaps it was peace? Maybe victory? Or perhaps he fought for the adrenaline in his body, for the rush it gave him. He fought and he won, even with the losses.
He changes the game
Anakin was smart and tactical on a different level to otherwise. There was passion in his strategies, no matter how it was shown. He wasn’t afraid to lose men, but he wasn’t going to let it happen. He strayed from typical tactics and into his own. He made his own.
He plays and he raises the stakes
He played his own game, he fought against the enemy his own way. The longer the fight continued, the higher the stakes. Around him, men were dropping, and yet he pushed on. He would only stop if he went too far, not before that. He was used to watching their deaths, but that didn’t mean it bothered him any less.
And if there’s a reason
Anakin jumped in front of a trooper - one he didn’t know - and deflected the oncoming fire, protecting the man with his life. He checked the pulse of another trooper, their deaths weighing over him like a storm cloud. He mourned them as he continued on, he pushed forwards to the thing that had killed him. The event they’d died for.
He seems to thrive when so few survive, then Goddamnit
The brunette leaped into enemy lines, slicing effortlessly through the droids, knocking them down. Around him, the dying screams of the battle continued. Anakin felt his friends and family behind him, knowing they were safe he continued to push. He pushed for the goal, effortlessly making it up a non-existent uphill climb
I’m willing to wait for it
Behind him, Ahsoka pushed forward. She cut down droid after droid. She was filled with the same burning passion that filled her brother, but she wasn’t nearly as forceful as he was. She made her own way, without the same power he naturally held. The fight was in her blood, just like the predator was, and yet, she displayed more patience than her brother ever would.
I’m willing to wait for it
Ahsoka pushed for the same goal, she dropped to mourn just like he did. And yet, Ahsoka held the things that weakened Anakin. She was patient, she was thoughtful on a deeper level. She was everything he was and better, and it was only because he held more natural power than her that no one knew. But they would, one day. One day.
A/N: Hope you enjoyed, send requests please!!!!!!!!!!

The Oscars Actually DO Matter, and Here's Why
In recent years, an underground opinion has come to the surface, voiced by many in the film industry. You see it all over social media: awards season doesn’t matter, the academy awards are a sham, etc.
But, quite frankly, the film awards shows do matter. And they matter to a very specific group of people. This year, there are more diversity in the nominations than I’ve seen before. Women of color, men of color, women writers, women directors, directors of color—just a few years ago we were saying #OscarsSoWhite.
And this year, that doesn’t stand true anymore.
In the best actor category alone, three of the five nominees are people of color, all consisting of different ethnicities. The front runner for this category, Chadwick Boseman (rest in peace), is a Black man. Riz Ahmed (The Sound of Metal) and Steven Yeun (Minari) have also gained critical acclaim for their roles. There has been almost no buzz for the two white men nominated for this category, Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins. Just a few years back, Oldman won for his role in The Darkest Hour, which was immediately met with criticism due to his past of domestic abuse and unsavory comments about women.
Tumblr media
Best supporting actor has the same exact case as best actor: Lakeith Stanfield, Leslie Odom Jr., and Daniel Kaluuya are all POC that are nominated for this category, with Paul Raci and Sacha Baron Cohen also nominated. Both Stanfield and Kaluuya star in Judas and the Black Messiah, and their roles have led to many clamoring to decide which of them is leading and which is supporting. Instead, the Academy nominated them both in the same category. Unfortunately, this can lead to a split vote, causing the award to go to another actor nominated.
The unfortunate truth is that when it comes to the actress awards, the majority of the nominees being non-white does not continue. It’s a common thread through history that Black male actors are more well-loved than Black women, due to both racism and misogyny.
For best actress, Viola Davis and Andra Day are both nominated for their respective roles in biopics as women with big, beautiful voices. Vanessa Kirby scored the only nomination that Netflix’s Pieces of a Woman has seen, which could be an effect of the news that came out against Shia LaBeouf. Frances McDormand is the front runner in this category, as Nomadland is in almost every category it scored a nomination in. Carey Mulligan has placed with many people as a close second for her role in Promising Young Woman, but there have been whispers that Davis can also score the award for her role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which would mean that both best actor and best actress belong to the same film if those predictions pan out.
Tumblr media
Supporting actress brings the same fate, but with only one woman of color nominated; Yuh-Jong Youn shines in her role as the grandmother in Minari. Other nominees for this category include Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Movie Film), Glenn Close (Hillbilly Elegy), Olivia Colman (The Father), and Amanda Seyfried (Mank). Glenn Close is the rumored front runner for this role, but the same situation as what happened with The Wife could happen, where Close loses to another fellow nominee. Many say that she is “owed” an Oscar by this point in her career, which nobody is truly “owed” anything. If this was based on pure skill and ability, Youn or Bakalova will be going home with the statue.
Tumblr media
Directing broke multiple barriers this year: Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) and Chloe Zhao (Nomadland) have made history as the first two women nominated in the same year for the category. Chloe Zhao is the first Asian woman nominated. Lee Issac Chung is nominated for Minari as well, meaning that three of the nominees this year are not white men. The two remaining nominees are David Fincher for Mank and Thomas Vinterberg for his international film, Another Round.
Take a step back and look at the statistics. Last year, almost no people of color were nominated for acting, and certainly no women were nominated for best director. The nominations do matter because when you win something as notable as an Academy Award, it opens you up to more opportunities, money, and connections in the film industry. It allows smaller actors or directors to become household names. Many directors and writers go on to make their passion project after they finally win that golden statue.
And maybe it’s just certain groups of people saying the Oscars don’t matter, maybe it’s just white men, maybe it’s just film bros, maybe it’s just random people. But the point stands: the Oscars are still important because there are barriers that haven’t been broken for so many groups of non-white male-identifying folks. When you say the Oscars don’t matter, you’re saying that the fact that so many diverse nominees who are FINALLY getting a shot at winning and are excited about their noms don’t matter.
So why don’t we just be quiet if we have nothing productive to say.
This year we were given six wonderful men of color for best actor, as well as three stellar women for best actress. For directing, if Fennell or Zhao win, it would only be the second time a woman has won, and the first time an Asian woman has won if Zhao, the category front runner, breaks through.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed. And you should too.

Is everybody watching the Amber Ruffin Show?? I loved her before but now… I learn so much from her show. Sometimes it takes a comic to get to the real serious shit. For example: Have you heard of drowning towns? Towns like Oscarville, Kowaliga, York hill, Seneca Village, Prentiss and countless other black towns that were drowned out to make lakes for the local whites. Central Park was also made after a black community was erased from history. Development displacement? Alleyway dwelling authority? Even those rabid for history can find out new things everyday. Thanks Amber!!

The Emmy’s were a little different this year with more of a Golden Globe look.  Cedric the Entertainer hosted with Reggie Watts as DJ. Lots of minority noms but barely a win. It was a white people night. Ted Lasso had a great night. Mare of Eastown took home a few with Evan Peters, Julianne Nicholson and Kate Winslet. Now, Kate is great but how did Anya Taylor- Joy not walk away with that? Queens Gambit did win a couple and gave the longest speech with the seemingly arrogant director Scott Frank who opened up 2 page acceptance. Categories were tough but I was routing for Renee Elise Goldberry and Bowen Yang but perhaps next year. The people in England who had their own party for all the statues that the Crown won seemed to be having more fun! Hacks won for writing and directing and Jean Smart!! It was nice to see the Norm Macdonald love which was barely mentioned by Lorne but celebrated by John Oliver. Colbert ‘s election night special won as did JB Smoove. Hamilton won and Debbie Allen got the big one. I do not understand why real singers and or musicians have to be there for the in Memoriam. It takes me out of it a bit and concentrates the focus on them. Do they think that people will pay attention more? Do they want to keep the home audience or live audience from the bathroom?  My best dressed were Anya Taylor-Joy, Michaela Cole who won for I may destroy you, Jean Smart, Josh O’Connor, Kathryn Hahn, Billy Porter, MJ Rodriguez, Keenan Thonpson, Leslie Odom Jr., Catherine O’Hara, Trevor Noah, Eugene Levy, Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, Bowen Yang,  Anthony Anderson, Leslie Grossman, Amber Ruffin, Allyson Felix, Renee Elise Goldberry, Samira Wiley and Rege- Jean Page. My worst were Sarah Paulson, Gillian Anderson,  Beanie Feldstein, Elizabeth Olsen and Aidy Bryant. To me the best part of the show was the enthusiasm of Conan and the way he injected himself into much of the evening .He was the show.  Go Conan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*****
Next year there must be some Emmys for Sarah Paulson and Cobie Smulders in Impeachment!!!!!

Thousands and thousands of people are in need. Haitian refugees and other immigrants have seen nothing like this what with assassination, a hurricane and earthquake. The Southern border is a mess.** Why does Fox news keep telling refugees the border is open as they sit back and laugh at Biden’s predicament.  Spreading false info to intentionally hurt poor, distressed people has no end for them.

Do companies know how fucked up their employment websites are? It is true that some people do not want to work. It is true that people schedule interviews and don’t show up. It is also true that companies have made it so hard to apply that many can’t. I suppose it is easier for them but the poor who may really want to work have a hard time. Paper applications are almost completely gone. The old fashioned way of walking into low paying job sites and finding a connection with a manager rarely exist. Some places only accept texts or have long ridiculous psych tests that a working Mother may not have time for. A Father working many hours already, may not be able to go to the library to get online if they cannot afford a computer. Many websites tell you that there no positions available in your area while there is a huge sign in front of the establishment. Can’t find people to work.. Gee I wonder why?? And treat people with respect once you find them, how about that?

One would think the Republicans would run out of $ for recounts but they have deep pockets. Just think how much good they could do for the huddled masses with that scratch.

My 2021 Oscar Predictions
It seems like it was a decade ago, that I cheered for and celebrated a historic night for Parasite as Bong Joon-Ho first surprised by taking home the Best Directing Oscar ahead of Sam Mendes only for the film itself to surprise even further by taking home the biggest of them all. What a film, what a night! And what a year it has been since then; the film industry - as anything else in our lives - has been turned on its head by the global pandemic that continues to redefine our reality. Many big films and award contenders have been postponed. But where one could have feared that this would have given us a lacklustre group of nominees, this is in no way the case. Instead the lack of the big budget films has granted space for smaller, indie films treating us to interesting visions, stellar performances and new cinematic experiences. The biggest loss of course being the lack of cinema experiences; out of all the 56 nominees I have shockingly and sadly only seen 2 in the cinema: Tenet and Mank. I did, however, manage to see ALL nominated films before the show for the first time ever.
So who will win? Here are my predictions: (In paranthesis are my personal ratings of the films from 1-5)
Best Picture
Tumblr media
The Father (4,5)
Judas and the Black Messiah (4,5)
Mank (3,5)
Minari (4,5)
Nomadland (5,0)
Promising Young Woman (5,0)
Sound of Metal (4,5)
The Trial of the Chicago 7 (4,0)
The biggest of them all seems likely to be one of the most predictable of them all. Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland, which triumphantly transcends the boundaries between documentary and fiction, has taken home close to every major award possible. The story of Fran, who’s lost everything and embarks on a spiritual journey through the America of the modern day nomads, is an awe-inspiring achievement and will be a deserved winner. The only films that might have a slight chance of causing upset seems to be my personal favourite, Promising Young Woman, the wonderful Minari, that could continue the Korean triumph of last year, and Aaron Sorkin’s Oscar-bait ensemble hit, The Trial of the Chicago 7, which could end up as the Green Book of this year. It is amazing to see films such as The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah and Sound of Metal be acknowledged with this particular nomination, but I don’t see them winning. Mank seems like an easy film to like, but a hard film to love and as such, I don’t see it winning - especially taking the preferential ballot system into consideration. I would have loved to see Soul continue the tradition of nominating animated features for its beautiful take on life.
Who will win: Nomadland
Potential spoiler: The Trial of the Chicago 7
Personal favourite: Promising Young Woman
Should have been there: Soul
Actor in a Leading Role
Tumblr media
Riz Ahmed, Sound of Metal (4,5)
Chadwick Boseman, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (3,5)
Anthony Hopkins, The Father (4,5)
Gary Oldman, Mank (3,5)
Steven Yeun, Minari (4,5)
Chadwick Boseman is the only actor here, whose film is not nominated in the Best Picture race, but yet, he is the one on everyone’s lips before the big night. Sadly, this - of course - is partly due to his tragic and way to early death. The entire narrative surrounding his death and the fact that only he knew about the illness, while filming Ma Rainey, adds a truly tragic nuance to his powerhouse performance. To me, he does, however, balance on the edge of being too theatrical (goes for everything concerning that film) and it is mostly in his more subtle scenes that he surprised and impressed me the most. The performance of the year is undoubtedly Anthony Hopkins in The Father in my opinion; he manages to capture all the little nuances, confusions and frustrations of growing dementia. A truly ruthless performance! I also have tons of gratitude for Ahmed’s deeply moving and involving work in Sound of Metal, and Steven Yeun’s subtle performance in Minari. Gary Oldman is good as always in Mank, but yet, I see him as the one who could have been snubbed. I would have liked to see the likes of Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods) or Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round) here.
Who will win: Chadwick Boseman
Potential spoiler: Anthony Hopkins
Personal favourite: Anthony Hopkins
Should have been there: Delroy Lindo/Mads Mikkelsen
Actor in a Supporting Role
Tumblr media
Sacha Baron Cohen, The Trial of the Chicago 7 (4,0)
Daniel Kaluuya, Judas and the Black Messiah (4,5)
Leslie Odom Jr., One Night in Miami… (4,0)
Paul Raci, Sound of Metal (4,5)
Lakeith Stanfield, Judas and the Black Messiah (4,5)
This one is Daniel Kaluuya’s to lose. And he will not be doing that. While you can argue that he might close to a leading role in Judas, but that does not take anything from his truly stunning performance. Such an interesting actor creating such an interesting character! His closest competitors seem to be Cohen for a role that hopefully can open up more dramatic chances for him and Paul Raci, who creates an endearing character in Sound of Metal. Oh, I would also love for him to win! Leslie Odom Jr. will probably have more open doors in Hollywood after his deserved nomination and Lakeith Stanfield will be asking himself how come he ends up as a supporting role for a film in which he was clearly the leading force of the story. His performance, however, is brilliant and impressed me further upon a recent rewatch of Judas. Could have been great to see Bo Burnham here for Promising Young Woman, but honestly I do not see who he should have replaced apart from Stanfield, who - as said - belongs in another category.
Who will win: Daniel Kaluuya
Potential spoiler: Sacha Baron Cohen
Personal Favourite: Daniel Kaluuya / Paul Raci
Could have been there: Bo Burnham
Actress in a Leading Role
Tumblr media
Viola Davis, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (3,5)
Andra Day, The United States vs. Billie Holiday (2,0)
Vanessa Kirby, Pieces of a Woman (3,5)
Frances McDormand, Nomadland (5,0)
Carey Mulligan, Promising Young Woman (5,0)
Perhaps the most unpredictable race of the evening! Everyone except Kirby has taken home a major award in the run-in to the Oscars. For that reason, I am having a hard time seeing Kirby take home the win for her otherwise stunning and powerful turn in mediocre Pieces of a Woman. Andra Day took home the Golden Globe, but I think the questionable quality (nicely put) of the film will make it hard for her to repeat that victory here. McDormand is beautifully subtle in Nomadland and could easily deserve the award, but the narrative is against her as she has already won two Oscars and took one just a couple of years ago. With this in mind, I think this is between Davis and Mulligan. Davis’ performance - not unlike Boseman’s in the same film - is close to being overdone, although it is a truly transformative performance. I will, however, say it should have been nominated as a supporting role. She took home the SAG and has a strong narrative for a win. Mulligan, in Promising Young Woman, is the best performance in my opinion and a minor favourite to win; she surprises with something completely new and risk-taking while still delivering the quality and nuance we have come to expect from her. A cheeky bid for who I would have liked to see, would be Jasna Duricic of Quo Vadis, Aida?, who I think carried that film on her shoulders with an intense performance.
Who will win: Carey Mulligan
Potential spoiler: Viola Davis
Personal favourite: Carey Mulligan
Could have been there: Jasna Duricic
Actress in a Supporting Role
Tumblr media
Maria Bakalova, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (3,5)
Glenn Close, Hillbilly Elegy (1,5)
Oliva Colman, The Father (4,5)
Amanda Seyfried, Mank (3,5)
Yuh-Jung Youn, Minari (4,5)
For a long time, Seyfried seemed like the one to beat here with a lot of buzz before Mank was released. While her performance is delightful, her role is, however, extremely limited and I actually ended up being surprised she was even there on nomination morning. Colman and Close famously battled for the leading actress award two years ago with Colman surprisingly (yet, deservedly) taking home the award. That left Close Oscar-less still, but while the narrative might be with her, it would be a shame to give her the award for this performance in this film. Bakalova is the surprise: raunchy and ruthless, she is not only the rare comedic nomination, but also one of the most daring performances of the year. I would love for her to win, and should she win it will not just be because of THAT hotel room scene. Her turn in Borat is surprisingly funny and layered. I do - however - think that everyone has been as charmed by Youn as I have been. Her grandmother in Minari is the heart of the film and she creates one of the most memorable on-screen grandmothers in recent time. I would have loved to see Dominique Fishback from Judas, although her role was also quite small.
Who will win: Yuh-Jung Youn
Potential spoiler: Maria Bakalova / Glenn Close
Personal favourite: Yuh-Jung Youn
Should have been there: Dominique Fishback
Animated Feature Film
Tumblr media
Onward (3,5)
Over the Moon (3,0)
A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon (3,5)
Soul (4,5)
Wolfwalkers (4,0)
Soul is winning this one with no real competitor. It is an amazing film by Pixar - both storywise, philosophically and in particular technically. But it is also daring as it is close to being there first truly film MAINLY for adults. Pixar competes against themselves, as Onward is also here. Netflix joins the animation race with the charming Over the Moon, while Aardman Studios are here with Farmageddon, which is a simply delightful children’s film. Wolfwalkers is perhaps the most interesting when it comes to animation style as the handdrawn animation follows the emotions of the characters.
Who will win: Soul
Potential spoiler: Wolfwalkers
Personal favourite: Soul
Cinematography
Tumblr media
Sean Bobbitt, Judas and the Black Messiah (4,5)
Erik Messerschmidt, Mank (3,5)
Dariusz Wolski, News of the World (3,0)
Joshua James Richards, Nomadland (5,0)
Phedon Papamichael, The Trial of the Chicago 7 (4,0)
I was happy to see Judas being recognised here, but it hardly stands a chance, despite its great work with depth. The same can be said about Papamichael, whose nomination I honestly do not understand, and Wolski, who produces some stunning vistas in the otherwise disappointing News of the World. Messerschmidt’s black and white work on Mank is a joy to behold, and while the Academy typically love black and white cinematography, I only see it as a potential spoiler. Joshua James Richards manages the otherwise small Nomadland into a grand and stunning film with some of the most beautiful images that I cannot wait to enjoy in a cinema. I would have loved to see Hoyte van Hoytema be nominated for his work on the otherwise faulty Tenet.
Who will win: Nomadland
Potential spoiler: Mank
Personal favourite: Nomadland
Should have been there: Tenet

Emma (3,0)
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (3,5)
Mank (3,5)
Mulan (3,0)
Pinocchio (1,5)
This is Ma Rainey’s to lose with all of its broadway costumes. Personally I rate the costumes in both Pinocchio higher and I would have liked to see Promising Young Woman nominated, although I know how rarely contemporary nominees are in this category.
Who will win: Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
Potential spoiler: Mank
Personal favourite: Pinocchio
Could have been there: Promising Young Woman
Directing
Tumblr media
Thomas Vinterberg, Another Round (5,0)
David Fincher, Mank (3,5)
Lee Isaac Chung, Minari (4,5)
Chloé Zhao, Nomadland (5,0)
Emerald Fennell, Promising Young Woman (5,0)
It is a historic year for this category; the first time that two female directors are nominated in the same year. Chloé Zhao will also find her way into the history books as the only second female winner of the category for her work with Nomadland; a film which would never have existed without her. Fennell and Chung are her closest competitors, but despite their deeply personal and commited work they do not stand a chance. Mank is as Fincher as it gets, but the films is just not very good in the end. Finally, as a Dane, I am of course ecstatic to see Vinterberg here for his masterful work on Another Round. I would have loved to see Florian Zeller for The Father, though!
Who will win: Chloé Zhao
Potential spoiler: Lee Isaac Chung
Personal favourite: Chloé Zhao
Could have been there: Florian Zeller
Documentary (Feature)
Tumblr media
Collective (4,5)
Crip Camp (4,0)
The Mole Agent (3,0)
My Octopus Teacher (4,0)
Time (5,0)
For a long time, Time or Collective seemed to be the ones to beat here. While Time, which I reckon to be one of the best, most impactful films of the year, remains my favourite, I think it might be too slow for some people. Collective shares the same issue as the entertaining The Mole Agent; they are in a foreign language. Thus, we end up with Crip Camp and My Octopus Teacher. The first is undoubtedly the most important of the two, but I do think that the heart-warming and surprisingly effective story of man and nature in Octopus Teacher will charm its way to a surprising Oscar! The fascinating micro-cosmos of American politics portrayed in Boys State was snubbed here!
Who will win: My Octopus Teacher
Potential spoiler: Crip Camp
Personal favourite: Time
Should have been there: Boys State
Documentary (Short Subject)
Tumblr media
Colette (3,5)
A Concerto is a Conversation (3,5)
Do Not Split (4,5)
Hunger Ward (3,5)
A Love Song for Latasha (4,0)
Notoriously difficult to predict, this years documentary shorts are no exception. Four of them are mainly journalistic, with A Love Song for Latasha standing out with its artistic aspects. I think that will tip the votes in its favour.
Who will win: A Love Song for Latasha
Potential spoiler: A Concerto is a Conversation
Personal Favourite: Do Not Split

The Father (4,5)
Nomadland (5,0)
Promising Young Woman (5,0)
Sound of Metal (4,5)
The Trial of the Chicago 7 (4,0)
Traditionally the film featuring the most and the most clear cuts will take home this Oscar, making Trial the traditional favourite here. However, Mikkel E.G. Nielsen’s close collaboration with the sound designers of Sound of Metal seems to have pushed that film closer to a suprising yet deserved award. For me, however, the confusing, unstructured work of Yorgos Lamprinos in The Father is the best of the year. Mank would have liked to have this on nomination morning.
Who will win: Sound of Metal
Potential spoiler: The Trial of the Chicago 7
Personal favourite: The Father
International Feature Film
Tumblr media
Another Round (5,0)
Better Days (3,5)
Collective (4,5)
The Man Who Sold His Skin (3,5)
Quo Vadis, Aida? (4,5)
Collective follows Honeyland’s example from last year with a double nomination for international and documentary, but it will not win despite its high quality. The Man Who Sold His Skin is an interesting and thought-provoking take on the refugee crisis and Better Days is a surprisingly effective YA adaptation with some criticism of the Chinese school system - they will be happy just be there. Quo Vadis, Aida? Is a really good film with a towering lead performance about one of the most gruesome historical events post WWII. However, and this is not just because I am Danish, Another Round will take this home. The film that grew from initially being a celebration of the Danish alcohol culture organically grew into a celebration of life in the shadows of a personal tragedy for director Vinterberg. At its heart is a beautiful performance from Mads Mikkelsen and a fascinating study of the Danish alcohol culture in the universally recognisable struggle of life. Its take on the built in paradox of our teenagers being stressed out in order to gain access to the same life that the film’s four protagonists desperately try to escape, is thought-provoking and well-portrayed.
Who will win: Another Round
Potential spoiler: Quo Vadis, Aida?

Emma (3,0)
Hillbilly Elegy (2,0)
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (3,5)
Mank (3,5)
Pinocchio (1,5)
Despite being a horrible film, the makeup and prosthetic work in Pinocchio ought to secure it an Oscar here. However, this will be given to the theatre makeup work in Ma Rainey.
Who will win: Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
Potential spoiler: Hillbilly Elegy
Personal favourite: Pinocchio
Music (Original Score)
Tumblr media
Da 5 Bloods (3,5)
Mank (3,5)
Minari (4,5)
News of the World (3,0)
Soul (4,5)
News of the World is a good yet classic western score, Da 5 Bloods is a nice score to listen to but does not fit in the film and Emile Mosseri’s brilliant score in Minari might be a bit too simple for some people. This means that this a battle between Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross and themselves for their buzzing 40’s score in Mank and amazing collaboration with Jon Batiste in Soul. Reznor and Ross will be taking the stage along with Batiste! It is close to robbery that Ludwig Göransson is not nominated for his towering Tenet score!!
Who will win: Soul
Potential spoiler: Mank
Personal favourite: Soul
Should have been there: Tenet
Music (Original Song)
Tumblr media
“Fight for You”, Judas and the Black Messiah (4,5)
“Hear My Voice”, The Trial of the Chicago 7 (4,0)
“Husavik”, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (3,0)
“Io Si (Seen”), The Life Ahead (3,0)
“Speak Now”, One Night in Miami… (4,0)
“Husavik” is a great song and is the only of the songs to truly play a part in the film rather than just being a credits song and I think that should always be a factor! However, this is Leslie Odom Jr.’s for the beautifully subtle “Speak Now” - he is an amazing singer! “Green” from Sound of Metal should have been here, I have to say.
Who will win: “Speak Now”
Potential spoiler: “Husavik”
Personal favourite: “Husavik”
Should have been there: “Green”
Production Design
Tumblr media
The Father (4,5)
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (3,5)
Mank (3,5)
News of the World (3,0)
Tenet (3,0)
The wonderfully simple, yet effective production design of The Father really should be winning this. However, The Academy always love representations of Hollywood and - to be fair - the work in Mank is incredibly detailed and beautiful to look at. Honestly, I would have loved to see Emma - that film was one of the most beautiful of the year!
Who will win: Mank
Potential spoiler: The Father / Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom

Short Film (Animation)
Tumblr media
Burrow (4,0)
Genius Loci (3,0)
If Anything Happens I Love You (4,5)
Opera (5,0)
Yes-People (3,0)
Yes-People is funny but uninteresting. Genius Loci is visually fascinating but also very abstract. Burrow is classic Pixar charm. If Anything Happens I Love You is an emotional gut-punch. Opera is transcending the film media being more of an art installation rather than an actual shortfilm; it is however both visually and visionary in a league of its own. So obviously, it will not win. Disappointing not to see Out here!
Who will win: If Anything Happens I Love You
Potential spoiler: Burrow
Personal favourite: Opera
Should have been there: Out
Short Film (Live Action)
Tumblr media
Feeling Through (4,0)
The Letter Room (3,5)
The Present (4,0)
Two Distant Strangers (2,0)
White Eye (3,0)
Two Distant Strangers seems like a late frontrunner here, and while it is impossible to disasgree with the importance of the film’s topic, I simply did not like the film. I found it both exploitative and overly symbolic leaving me with a bad taste in my mouth; difficult opinions to have regarding a film about such an important topic. None of the other four truly stand out, but I would love to see the inclusive and touching Feeling Through receive the Oscar.
Who will win: Two Distant Strangers
Potential spoiler: The Letter Room
Personal favourite: Feeling Through
Sound
Tumblr media
Greyhound (2,0)
Mank (3,5)
News of the World (3,0)
Soul (4,5)
Sound of Metal (4,5)
Rarely has a film been so defined by its sound as Sound of Metal. It is not only groundbreaking but also deeply fascinating, impressive and involving; a main factor in the film’s success. It is difficult to predict as this is the first year the two awards (Editing/Mixing) have been combined. Greyhound might have been able to grab an editing award had they been separated still…
Who will win: Sound of Metal
Potential spoiler: Soul
Personal favourite: Sound of Metal
Visual Effects
Tumblr media
Love and Monsters (3,0)
The Midnight Sky (2,5)
Mulan (3,0)
The One and Only Ivan (3,0)
Tenet (3,0)
A category that would probably have been dominated by films such as Godzilla vs. Kong, Dune and Black Widow in a normal 2020, has now granted space for the charming animals of The One and Only Ivan and the surprisingly entertaining and heartfelt Love and Monsters. It does, however, seem like an obvious opportunity to give the supposed “saviour of cinema” Tenet one award.
Who will win: Tenet
Potential spoiler: The Midnight Sky
Personal favourite: Tenet
Should have been there: Soul
Writing (Adapted Screenplay)
Tumblr media
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (3,5)
The Father (4,5)
Nomadland (5,0)
One Night in Miami… (4,0)
The White Tiger (3,0)
The White Tiger is the odd one out here with its overly told and clumsy voice-over, whereas Borat is another example of the weird definition. While the main character is not new, the film is obviously an original story. One Night in Miami… is a much better adaption than Ma Rainey, but The Father is even more successful in its journey from stage to silver screen. Zeller’s screenplay is masterful and daring in its ruthless depiction of dementia. However, it faces stern competition from Chloé Zhao who might add her first of many Oscars of the evening with this award for a rare adaptation of a non-fiction work into a fictional story.
Who will win: The Father
Potential spoiler: Nomadland
Personal favourite: The Father
Writing (Original Screenplay)
Tumblr media
Judas and the Black Messiah (4,5)
Minari (4,5)
Promising Young Woman (5,0)
Sound of Metal (4,5)
The Trial of Chicago 7 (4,0)
I was immensely happy to see Judas and Sound of Metal here as they told well-structured and well-paced stories, while this was the biggest nail in the coffin for Mank as David Fincher’s father missed out on a nomination for the film about one of history’s best screenplays. The battle is seems to be between the king of screenplays Aaron Sorkin and a certain promising young woman, Emerald Fennell, who has written the best screenplay of the year in my opinion. Look out for Lee Isaac Chung as he will be ready to pounce with his deeply personal screenplay for Minari, should the battle between Fennell and Sorkin fall flat. The extremely charming and funny Palm Springs should have been here!
Who will win: Promising Young Woman
Potential spoiler: The Trial of the Chicago 7
Personal favourite: Promising Young Woman
Should have been there: Palm Springs
I wish everyone the best of Oscar nights! May the best films win!

Tony-winning choreographer, actress Ann Reinking dies        NEW YORK
Ann Reinking, the Tony Award-winning choreographer, actress and Bob Fosse collaborator who helped spread a cool, muscular hybrid of jazz and burlesque movement to Broadway and beyond, has died. She was 71.
Reinking died in her sleep Saturday while visiting family in Seattle, said her manager, Lee Gross.
Tributes poured in from the Broadway community, including from Tony Yazbeck, who called her “an absolute inspiration” and Leslie Odom, Jr., who thanked Reinking for being a mentor: “She honored the calling for real. RIP to a legend.” Bernadette Peters took to Twitter to say her heart was broken and Billy Eichner said she was “one of the most mesmerizing people I’ve ever seen on stage. A singular genius. RIP.”
Trained as a ballet dancer, Reinking was known for her bold style of dance epitomized by her work in the revival of the Kander and Ebb musical “Chicago,” complete with net stockings, chair dancing and plenty of pelvic thrusts.
Reinking co-starred as Roxie Hart along with Bebe Neuwirth’s Velma, and created the choreography “in the style of Bob Fosse,” the show’s original director and choreographer who died in 1987. She and Fosse worked together for 15 years and she was also his lover for several of them.
Her work on “Chicago” earned her a 1997 Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards. Reinking replicated its choreography in productions throughout the world — England, Australia, Austria, Sweden, the Netherlands and elsewhere. She was portrayed by Margaret Qualley in the recent FX series “Fosse/Verdon.”
The musical’s revival was first done in a concert version at City Center’s “Encores” series in 1996 and then moved to Broadway, where in 2011 it became the second longest-running show in Broadway history.
“You know how you hear sometimes a woman goes into labor and 10 minutes later she’s got this beautiful baby? You couldn’t believe that it was materializing in such a beautiful way,” she told The Associated Press in 2011 about the early days of the revival.
In 1998, she co-directed “Fosse,” a salute to the man who had the largest influence, both professionally and personally, on her life. He once called her “one of the finest dancers in the jazz-modern idiom.”
Her movie credits include “Annie” (1982), “Movie, Movie” (1978) and the documentary “Mad Hot Ballroom” (2005), which portrayed Reinking as a ballroom-dance competition judge for New York City kids.
Reinking’s career began in Seattle, where she grew up. In the beginning, she wanted to be a ballet dancer, “like all girls,” she said. As a student, she won a scholarship in San Francisco with the Joffrey Ballet, but at many of the students’ after-hours improvisations, she would just sing and not dance.
Robert Joffrey said that with her outgoing personality and other abilities, she should pursue musical theater. “I waited tables to save up enough money to get here,” she said of New York City, where she arrived with a round-trip ticket back to Seattle and $500. She didn’t need the return trip.
“You wouldn’t get into this if you had a guarantee. People who get into this have a certain sense of the high stakes,” she said. “You need the break and when you get it, you’d better be ready for it.”
Reinking’s break was strung out over several shows. She was in the ensemble for Broadway’s “Coco,” which starred Katharine Hepburn as Coco Chanel, in 1969, and was in the chorus of “Pippin” in 1972, picked by its director and choreographer, Fosse. The ensemble was so small — there were only eight — that the dancers were really seen.
Choreographer Pat Birch was one who noticed, and in 1974 put her in “Over Here,” a World War II musical starring two of the three Andrews Sisters and featuring another unknown, John Travolta.
It led to a starring role in “Goodtime Charley,” a musical about Joan of Arc opposite Joel Grey. The musical was not a success, but it did make theatergoers look at Reinking as a principal performer and not just a member of the chorus.
Her other big break, she said, was in “Dancin’” in 1978, “because I realized you had to be in an original part and that show has to be a hit.” The music-and-dance revue directed and choreographed by Fosse was, running more than three years and earned her a 1978 Tony nomination.
But it was her work on the revival of “Chicago” where Reinking basked in the most attention. The original, a dark indictment of celebrity and hucksterism, opened in the summer of 1975 and ran for about 900 performances. Though not in the opening night cast, Reinking eventually slipped into the role of Roxie Hart, taking over the part from Gwen Verdon, Fosse’s third wife and dancing alter ego. In the 1996 revival, which is still on Broadway, Reinking kept the part of Hart opposite Gray and Neuwirth.
Reinking also gained experience — and stayed in shape — by replacing stars in hit shows: Donna McKechnie in “A Chorus Line”; Gwen Verdon in Fosse’s original “Chicago”; and Debbie Allen in the 1986 revival of “Sweet Charity.”
And she embarked on an eclectic film career — from playing Roy Scheider’s lover in Fosse’s 1979 semi-autobiographical film “All That Jazz,” to the screen version of “Annie” to Blake Edwards’ “Micki and Maude.”
She also created dances for a revival of “Pal Joey” at Chicago’s Goodman Theater and a musical about first lady Eleanor Roosevelt called “Eleanor.” She was on the national tour of “Bye Bye Birdie” opposite Tommy Tune.
After “Eleanor,” offers to choreograph “kept falling in my lap,” Reinking said. She created dances for a pre-Encores “Chicago” in Long Beach, California, with Neuwirth and Juliet Prowse.
In one of the more cringe-worthy moments in her career, Reinking was asked to sing and perform the Oscar nominated song “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins at the 1985 telecast. Reinking lip-synched as she danced a bombastic, cheesy rendition marred by fog.
In recent years, she choreographed “The Look of Love” on Broadway and the Roger Rees-directed off-Broadway “Here Lies Jenny” (2004), starring Neuwirth. In 2011, she helped choreograph “An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin” on Broadway.
Reinking also produced a documentary called “In My Hands,” about working with children of Marfan’s Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder of the connective tissues that often leaves its victims with limbs that are disproportionately long. She also produced the film “Two Worlds, One Planet,” about “high-functioning” autism.
Reinking’s first three marriages ended in divorce. Since 1994, she had been married to Peter Talbert. She also is survived by a son, Christopher, who has been diagnosed with Marfan syndrome and autism.
“If there is a heaven, I think Bob can look down and be satisfied. He really did have an exponential effect on the next generation of choreographers and dancers,” Reinking once said.
“He demanded the best from you and you wanted to give it. So you got better. All great directors — however, they do it — make you want to be good. I hope I do it. It’s like being a parent, a psychiatrist, a disciplinarian and a friend. You really have to know when to hold them and when to show them.”

UNPOPULAR MUSICAL THEATRE OPINIONS (im so sorry)
Okay first of all, I am a theatre kid. I literally did Phantom Of The Opera cosplay when I was 3 because I didn’t want to make an animal mask with the paper plates. Also, this is MY opinion. So please don’t spam the comments calling me a fake fan. This fandom is already toxic as it is.
- I don’t like Starkid. I’ve watched every Starkid show and honestly none of them are funny or entertaining.
- Hamilton, DEH, Heathers, BMC, BOM, Falsettos and Six are all incredibly overrated. Lemme explain why:
- Hamilton is overrated because Jesus Christ. I’ve listened to Hamilton since they were off Broadway and can I just say, while it is an amazing piece of art and is somewhat educational (literally half of it is fanfiction) the fandom has taken it out of proportions and destroyed it. It’s just gotten so cringy because of people who like it a bit too much.
- DEH and Heathers are both good musicals. They are not bad okay. I’m not saying that but I feel like they are a bit too overhyped. Especially DEH. ‘Treebros’ is necrophilia and we don’t have that stuff on this blog okay. Again, I’m not saying that I hate them, because the music is good, but there are better things.
- Side note: DEH should not have won Best Orchestrations at the Tonys because The Great Comet was by far superior.
- I hate Be More Chill. I can’t even explain why. The thought of it makes me cringe. I can’t look at the cover of the soundtrack without flinching. I’ve listened to the entire thing and I regret it. I will never like it.
- BOM, Falsettos and Six are all great musicals, but everyone just keeps talking about them. Like yes, I know about BOM, and yes I know that it’s funny and has good music, but it’s not better that Phantom Of The Opera? And Falsettos is good but it is so goddamn overhyped. It was NOT robbed at the Tonys, because ti had a very limited cast and no ensemble so it was pretty obvious that it was going to be lost between things like DEH, TGC and Hello Dolly!
- Side note: I don’t think Hello Dolly! should’ve won all of the things it did but I’ll get to that later.
- Six is good. But it is so annoying. It was great at the start but the only songs that people actually listen to are Don’t Lose Your Head and Don’t Lose Your Head. I’m so sick of it.
- Anyways, classics like Phantom and Les Mis and anything Lloyd Webber or Sondheim are far superior to modern day musicals because they encompass the true spirit of musical theatre.
- The 2017 Tonys.
- The 2017 goddamn Tonys.
- I’m just gonna go and say it. Hello Dolly! did not deserve all of it’s awards. DEH did not deserve Best Orchestrations, which rightfully belonged the TGC. Speaking of TGC, that is a show that was truely robbed. Lucas Steele should’ve won best featured actor, not Gavin Creel. He literally danced, sung, acted and played advanced violin all at the same time. And the set of TGC was basically stairs and platforms, so it was more of a challenge. He deserved it an I will stand by that until I die.
- Mike Faist didn’t deserve the nomination. He was barely on stage and barely a character.
- Falsettos wasn’t robbed. Don’t even start me.
- I CANNOT HANDLE LAMS. OR JAMILTON. I JUST CANT.
- I you want to know why I can’t handle Hamilton ships (Lams and Jamilton in particular) than DM me and I’ll give you my 700 word essay because damn.
- I’m going to get attacked for this but here is a list of actors/actresses that are widely overrated in my opinion (I’m not saying that they’re bad because they are obviously amazing but I don’t really connect with them): Mike Faist, Phillipa Soo, Lin Manuel Miranda, Ben Platt, Daveed Diggs, Barret Wilbert Weed, Ben Frankhauser (i spelt his name wrong i am so sorry), Gavin Creel, Andrew Ranelles, Jonathan Groff, Laura Osnes (butchered her name too i think?), Willemijn Verkaik, Desi Oakley, Mariah Rose Faith.
- I don’t really like Mariah Rose Faith’s voice and while she is honestly amazing, I feel like she isn’t right for Regina George.
- One of the best shows to ever grace the Broadway stage is Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812.
- I’ve read War and Peace over 4 times. I know the plotline. TGC covers it perfectly. The acting, the actual stage and how it is so interactive, Lucas Steele, the way that all the ensemble dances, sings and play and instrument, Lucas Steele, Lucas Steele playing the violin. Like damn. It is the true meaning of robbed.
- Lucas Steele deserves so much more recognition.
- I like Denee’s Natasha better than Pippa’s. They are both incredible singers who blow me away everything they open their mouths, but I feel like Denee really shows Natasha’s character. Pippa does the same with Eliza.
- Lucas Steele and Reeve Carney recognition month. Their falsettos can blow me into next Spring.
- The ‘and Peggy’ joke was never funny. Watch me offend the whole Hamilton fandom with that.
- Lams isn’t or wasn’t real. Sorry.
- Say what you goddamn want, but I will literally never like the Prom. I have been called homophobic for not liking it so many times and I really am not. I just don’t like the music, I’m not saying that I’m against the LGBT community,
- I have watched all of Glee (and a secret deleted bootleg of Darren Criss’s Hedwig run) and I don’t like Darren Criss. There. I said it.
- Here’s a list of underrated actors/actresses: Leslie Odom Jr, LUCAS STEELE, The entire Broadway cast of Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, Rachel Tucker, Jessie Mueller, Eva Nobelzada, REEVE CARNEY, Christy Altomare.
- I don’t like how LMM was actually in Hamilton or In The Heights. He can write songs, sure, but he’s not the best singer. I feel like Javi should’ve been on the cast recordings. Then I would be more inclined to listen to them.
- These are only the ones that I can think of without having to actually think (this sentence makes no sense) so I’m sorry if I offended you. Please remember that this is just my opinion.

Chadwick, Regina King, Viola & More Nab Golden Globes Nominations + Every Black-Led Film, Spike Lee, Michaela Coel & Zendaya SNUBBED
Tumblr media
The nominations for the 2021 Golden Globe Awards are in! The late Chadwick Boseman, Regina King, Viola Davis, John Boyega, Daniel Kaluuya, Leslie Odom Jr. and more scooped up nominations. However, Zendaya, Spike Lee, "Bridgerton," and every black-led film ensemble were snubbed! More inside…
The nominations are in!
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has officially announced its nominees for the 2021 Golden Globes, which will recognize the excellence in film and television. Several of your TV and movie faves nabbed nominations.
Golden Globe winners Taraji P. Henson and Sarah Jessica Parker revealed the 78th annual Golden Globe nominees virtually this morning on NBC’s “Today.” This year’s awards season will look different from years before as we’re still in the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic isn’t going to stop the show though!
Esteemed actor Chadwick Boseman – who died in August 2020 after a four-year battle with colon cancer – received a posthumous nomination for this year’s awards. He was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama category for his role as Levee in the Netflix film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. It's his first nomination.
The Black Panther star did an incredible job portraying his boisterous character Levee in the film about 1920 blues singer, Ma Rainey, played by Viola Davis, who was nominated for an award as well.
Humbled and flattered. Thank you so much to the #HFPA for the @GoldenGlobes nomination! pic.twitter.com/JSjCEJJXtx
— Viola Davis (@violadavis) February 3, 2021
Viola Davis – who won her first Golden Globe in 2017 for FENCES – received a Best Actress nomination in the Drama category for playing the legendary Ma Rainey. Also, Andra Day was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Billie Holiday in Hulu's The United States vs. Billie Holiday.
It was surprising to see Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom did not make it into the Best Drama category, but we’ll get to that later.
Golden Globe winner Regina King is gunning for her 2nd award. The fab actress-turned-director nabbed a nomination for Best Director in a Motion Picture for her stellar film, One Night In Miami. The film is Regina’s directorial debut and she nailed it. However, the Globes snubbed the film for Best Picture.
Tumblr media
On the bright side, Leslie Odom Jr. received TWO nominations! He’s up for Best Supporting Actor for playing legendary singer Sam Cooke in One Night in Miami, and Best Original Song for “Speak Now” on the film’s soundtrack.
John will duke it out against Judas & the Black Messiah star Daniel Kaluuya in the Best Supporting Actor category. The YBF actor will also go up against H.E.R., Tiara Thomas & Dernst Emile II as they were nominated in the Best Original Song category for their track “Fight For You” featured on Judas & the Black Messiah.
Other notable film nominations include Disney+’s Hamilton – the filmed version of the Broadway hit – was nominated for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy along with a Best Actor - Musical or Comedy nomination for Lin-Manuel Miranda.
SOUL scored two nominations for Best Picture – Animated and Best Original Score – Motion Picture.
As for the film nominations, every black led ensemble was snubbed! Not one black-led film was nominated for Best Picture, including Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Judas & the Black Messiah, One Night In Miami and Da 5 Bloods.

— Films to Films (@FilmstoFilms_) February 3, 2021
Spike Lee’s Vietnam drama Da 5 Bloods was totally shut out! It was predicted the film would land nominations in categories like Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for Delroy Lindo, but nope!
This year, Spike’s kids – Jackson and Satchel – will serve as Golden Globe Ambassadors. We wonder if he’ll change his mind about them participating.
Also, Zendaya was snubbed for her leading role in Malcolm & Marie, starring opposite John David Washington. The film caused quite the controversy when it was released, but John David had Daya’s back.
On the television front…
Tumblr media
British actor John Boyega received his first Golden Globes nomination. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor – Television for his performance in "Small Axe."
Two-time Golden Globe winner Don Cheadle scored a nomination for Best Actor – Television – Musical or Comedy for his crazy role in "Black Monday."
HBO’s “Lovecraft Country” was shown some love in the Best Television Series – Drama category.
There were a few other snubs we’d like to point out.
Netflix's BIGGEST series debut "Bridgerton" and STRAZ's new hit series "P-Valley" were completely shut out. Totally shocked by this.
Jurnee Smollett’s name should have been on the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama list for her role in “Lovecraft Country.” Also, Michaela Coel was snubbed for Best Actress in a Limited/Anthology Series and her show “I May Destroy You” wasn’t considered for Best Limited Series.
Netflix dominated this year’s nominations, scooping up 22 nominations by motion picture and 20 nominations by television. You can check out the full list of nominees here.
The 78th Annual Golden Globes – hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey - will air February 28th on NBC. The ceremony typically takes place in January, but the pandemic pushed it back.

Notes taken during Super Bowl LII
KITTEN AND PUPPY BOWLS
Is this the first-ever Kitten Bowl to go to overtime? Tied at 28. Feline Manning throws deep. Macaroni grabs it in the end zone. Touchdown! 34-28 Panthers, final score.
I've never thought much of Feline Manning in the regular season, but you can't argue with his results in the Kitten Bowl.
There's a new Puppy Bowl stadium? This is embarrassing. The taxpayers are getting fleeced again.
OH HELL YES. THE REFEREE AT PUPPY BOWL IS A SLOTH.
Tumblr media
Update: Puppy Bowl is tied at 14 after a quarter. It's anybody's game.
Dammit. Should have called it a pupdate.
Puppy Bowl is 24-21 in the second quarter. It's quickly becoming apparent that dogs can't play defense.
Pupdate: Fluff 28, Ruff 24. Presumably, we're deep into the second quarter.
Now it's 31-28 Ruff. Still in the second quarter. I'm sure Puppy Bowl XIV is on track to destroy the all-time record for total points scored in a single game.
Last second touchdown! Fluff pulls off a 52-47 win over Ruff!
PREGAME
Okay, I've got a beer, dinner is on its way, and I'm settling in to finish this project. The only reason I've finished this is that I'm a stubborn SOB. This hasn't been fun for about 6-7 months now.
A feature about Tom Brady's mom. She had cancer in 2016 and was only able to be at one of his games, Super Bowl LI. A nice story.
Oh, cool, now Dan Patrick asked Brady when he knew he could be great. It's no longer a heartwarming story about his mom, now it's about slurping on Brady.
Patrick comparing Brady to Michael Jordan. Brady says he doesn't think about that very often. Could never be compared to his childhood heroes.
Brady has no idea how he'll fill the void when he retires. Maybe coach his kids. He's happy his kids are old enough to see him play. His son didn't pick him in fantasy football. Took Cam Newton instead.
You know what NBC should do more of? Talk about Tom Brady. I wonder where they rank him on the all-time list.
Now it's a feature about the Eagles defense. Not a ton of big names, says Chris Long, but they have a bunch of good players.
And then they end it with more about Tom Brady. Good. More of that, please. I never get sick of it.
One thing I've noticed, in watching all these Super Bowls, is that the team with the better defense wins more often than you'd expect. If one team is offense-reliant and the other is defense-reliant, the defensive team wins a bunch of games. That would be the Eagles here.
Rodney Harrison: Patriots will run short passes and screen passes to avoid the Eagle pass rush.
Commercials. Zelle. Applebees has a quesadilla burger. George Washington crossing the Delaware Turnpike for Geico. Turbotax. Promo for a new NBC series, Good Girls. It's not about puppers, unfortunately. Promo for the Olympics.
NBC bumps in with a bunch of sound bites from Eagles and Patriots fans. The Patriots remain the worst. I hope this old guy gets to see an Eagles championship.
Rodney Harrison: Tom Brady gave me a hug, told me he loves me, and gave me a little wink. I've seen that wink before. That means he's going to have a big game.
Dungy and John Harbaugh talk about how loose and calm the Eagles seem. Harrison says the Patriots need to come out and start fast. Can't fall behind the Eagles like they did last year against Atlanta.
Harrison picks the Patriots. Harbaugh picks the Eagles, says they'll hold New England under 24. Dungy picks the Eagles, says he's fallen in love with Nick Foles. Dan Patrick doesn't pick anybody. It's good to be the host.
Commercials: HQ trivia. You can watch the game in Spanish on Universo. Local ad for Tim Hortons. Local ad for Columbus Cyberknife prostate cancer treatment. State Farm insurance. State of Ohio PSA saying you shouldn't drive drunk. YoutubeTV. The commercial for Youtube TV includes a bunch of NBC programming.
Time for the "Youtube TV kickoff show". Starts with a Carrie Underwood song. Great. This is where I need a fast forward button.
There's a rap breakdown in the middle of this Underwood song. They show Super Bowl legends including Roger Staubach during that part of the song. Staubach has been one of my absolute favorite players to watch in these Super Bowls, but he is the least "hip hop" person on earth.
Al Michaels: This is a league built for parity and the Patriots are on the cusp of their sixth championship in 17 years. Eagles have a history of success, but have never won a Super Bowl.
Cris Collinsworth: Everybody knows Tom Brady, but not Nick Foles. But Foles is capable of having a tremendous game. Had one of the greatest seasons in NFL history in 2013. Chip Kelly says you're welcome.
Commercials: A really long commercial for Mass Mutual that involves people singing a Pretenders song. Red Sparrow.
Eagles walk out to the field. NBC runs a montage of their players introducing themselves. "Donnie Bag of Bones Jones" is the punter.
Patriots now. "Chris Hogan, Penn State lacrosse." I wouldn't want to be associated with their football program either. (Also, he didn't play football in college.)
It's very clear very early who the fans in the stadium want to win. The Patriots are loudly booed as they take the field.
Commercials: Kraft, US Bank, Mercedes Benz, Terrell Owens for Pizza Hut, Winter Olympics Promo.
Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award. J.J. Watt, unsurprisingly. He did a ton of work to raise money for hurricane relief after Houston got leveled.
America The Beautiful. Leslie Odom Jr. I genuinely have no clue who this person is. He can sing, though. He nails it.
It turns out Leslie Odom Jr. played Aaron Burr in Hamilton. This would explain why I don't know who he is.
The Star Spangled Banner. Pink. She also nails it.
Commercials. I spaced out and may have missed one. The Quiet Place. Lionel Richie for TD Ameritrade. Big Mac.
Michaels: What's the most likely way the Eagles win this game? Collinsworth: The offensive line and defensive line. They need to be able to run the ball and they need to be able to pressure Brady without blitzing him. It's hard to imagine that this game could come down to anything other than Tom Brady.
Coin toss: Medal of Honor winners. Very cool. Herschel "Woody" Williams will toss the coin. Won the Medal of Honor for valor at the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II.
The referee called him Willie Williams. Oof.
Now he called him Corporal Wilson.
Eagles call tails. It's heads. Patriots defer, Eagles will receive.
Michele Tafoya: Eagles coach Doug Pederson told Nick Foles "You're not Tom Brady. Be Nick."
Commercials. I spaced out again. Is there a new Jurassic Park movie? There was a thing for that. Also YouTube TV.
NBC bumps in from commercial with a bunch of sound bites from past Super Bowl heroes. Staubach, Namath, Hines Ward.
Tumblr media
FIRST QUARTER
Okay, kickoff time
Line-drive kickoff. Clement takes it out to the 25.
First play, pass right to Agholor. 5 yard gain.
Agholor for 2 more yards on second down. Michaels says Foles completed 15 passes in a row at the end of the NFC championship game. It's 17 in a row now.
18 in a row. Foles buys time on third down and hits Alshon Jeffery for 15 yards or so.
Tumblr media
Well, there's an incomplete pass. Torrey Smith can't come up with the ball on a 2nd and 12 downfield pass.
Smith more than makes up for the incompletion - goes up the ladder to make a 15 yard catch on 3rd and 12. Eagles approaching field goal range.
Eagles running a bunch of "RPO" plays. (Run-pass option.) Ajayi runs for six on first down. Next play is a screen pass to Corey Clement. Takes it to the New England 5. The Patriots were blitzing and got burned. First and goal.
2nd and goal from the 2. False start on tight end Zach Ertz. Ouch. Offensive penalties inside the 5 are brutal.
Yep, that false start penalty was a killer. After incomplete passes on second down and third down, the Eagles will attempt a field goal.
Got it. A chip shot field goal ends a 14-play game opening drive. 3-0 Eagles. NBC bumps out to commercial with "The Underdog" by Spoon, which is cool.
Commercials: Toyota supports the Paralympics. Sprint has a Westworld parody
Eagles kick off. It's a touchback. Then more commercials.
Commercials: Solo, a Star Wars story. With Donald Glover! Nothing brings it down quite like Dr. Oz in the next commercial. Ugh. Go away. Turkish Airlines. He is Turkish, so there's that. Promo for a new show called Rise. Looks like a musical. Great.
Stop me if you've heard this before. Brady completes a short, outside pass to James White for a first down. 15 yards. Next play is a pass to James White. Because all he does is catch passes in the Super Bowl. That play's wiped out after a 12 men on the field penalty on the defense.
Brady to Chris Hogan underneath, coming across the middle, for a gain of 28. They're inside the Philadelphia 30. Next play is an end around to Hogan for four yards.
Brady to Gronkowski coming across the middle. Another completion, another first down at the 14.
Oh, hey, it's a completion to James White. Gains six yards, down to the 8.
NBC is using a white line to mark the line of scrimmage which is horrible and I hate it. I can't tell which is the line of scrimmage and which is the 10 yard line. Brady throws behind Gronk on third down and the Patriots settle for a Gostkowski field goal attempt.
Yup. 26 yard field goal for Gostkowski. 3-3, late first quarter.
Commercials: Bud Light with a Dilly Dilly ad that I've seen before. M&Ms. The red M&M turns into Danny Devito, who walks down the streets of New York asking if people want to eat him. Promo for the halftime show. Justin Timberlake. Winter Olympics promo.
Tumblr media
Kenjon Barner with a decent kickoff return. Kenjon is my dude. Thrilled that he's had an NFL career. Incredibly cool guy.
Big, big run for another Duck, LaGarrette Blount. 36 yard rumble into New England territory. Collinsworth says the Patriots asked Blount to take a pay cut, he said no, and went to the Eagles.
TOUCHDOWN! Foles deep to Alshon Jeffery, who makes an incredible grab in the end zone.
Ugh, they blew the extra point. 9-3 Eagles.
A good article about Barner. He studied, among other things, ballet dancing at Oregon.
Commercials: Ram trucks, Wendy's. Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
HEY, JEFFERY. NICE CATCH, JEFFERY.
youtube
Commercials: A Hulu show from Stephen King and J.J. Abrams. Heroes Arena mobile game. Olympics promo.
The Patriots look very human at this point. Which, yeah, it's the first quarter of the Super Bowl. Gronk false start, Brady overshoots Hogan, and it's 3rd and 7.
Hey, you guys? You might want to cover Danny Amendola. Amendola is wide open deep and Brady hits him. First down at the Philadelphia 29.
Collinsworth: Eagles defense led the league in highest percentage of threes-and-out in the regular season, but they're struggling with New England's fast-paced offense.
First quarter ends. Philadelphia 9, New England 3.
Commercials: Peter Dinklage for Doritos. Morgan Freeman for Mountain Dew Ice. Both are lip-synching rap songs. David Harbour for Tide. Skyscraper starring Dwayne Johnson.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
289 yards of total offense in the first quarter between the two teams.
Tumblr media
SECOND QUARTER
Third down, Brandin Cooks on a jet sweep. Tries to jump over a tackler but can't get that done.
New England botches a field goal attempt. Holder drops the ball, Gostkowski has to stop, then start, then drills it into the left upright. Big break for Philadelphia.
Foles with a nice move to avoid a sack on third and long. Probably could run for a first down but throws to Ertz. Incomplete. Donnie Bag of Bones Jones to punt.
Fair catch at the 37.
Commercials: Another Dilly Dilly ad for Bud Light. ETrade. A movie. I was looking away. Mission Impossible? Is there one of those? Olympics promo. After the game, "This is Us".
Brady to Cooks downfield for 23. Gets absolutely annihilated by Malcolm Jenkins and he's not moving. There was a bit of helmet-to-helmet contact. Commercial time.
Commercials: Rocket Mortgage. Avocados from Mexico. The Cloverfield Paradox.
We're back from commercial. Cooks has been taken to the locker room. There was no penalty on the hit because he was a runner and not defenseless.
Third down, the Patriots run a reverse/throwback play, a pass to Tom Brady. Incomplete - Brady dropped the ball. They go for it on 4th and 5 from the 35. Incomplete pass. Turnover on downs.
Commercials. Diet Coke with Mango, Jeep, Tide, WeatherTech. Halftime show promo.
Michaels: Patriots DB Malcolm Butler has played zero defensive snaps today. The team says it's "a coach's decision".
Tumblr media
Foles downfield to Zach Ertz, First down at the New England 43.
Great throw and catch from Foles to Jeffery downfield. 22 yard gain.
Tumblr media
Next play, LaGarrette Blount! Blows through the defense for a 21 yard touchdown. 15-3 Eagles. They go for two, which I absolutely hate. Incomplete pass. It's still 15-3.
Commercials: Pringles. Febreze. Chris Pratt for Michelob Ultra.
Anyway, back to the "going for two" thing. I wouldn't do it until I absolutely had to. The second quarter is not that time.
NBC graphic: Most championships by a coach/QB combo: Belichick-Brady and Lombardi-Starr are tied with five.
Tumblr media
Cutaways: Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez. Mike Trout, who Al Michaels calls a California Angel. Missed it by a couple decades, Al.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Big play from Brady to Burkhead. A screen pass - he nearly breaks it for a touchdown. Gets it to the Eagles' 29.
Third and 8, the Eagles completely blow up a screen pass with backfield penetration. Brady throws it away. Gostkowski kicks a 45 yard field goal. 15-6. And that's why you kick the extra point. A ten point lead is so much better than a nine-point lead.
Um, hello? The screen has gone black. I don't know what just happened. No commercials. They go back to the stadium after 10-15 seconds.
Tumblr media
Tafoya: Brandin Cooks will not return. He has a "head injury". Patriots now have a total of three wide receivers available.
Michaels: Foles nearly retired when he was released by the Rams. Decided there was only one coach he'd play for, Andy Reid of the Chiefs. Reid wanted him.
Collinsworth: I love what Nick Foles is doing. When the Patriots blitz, he's throwing the ball to the area vacated by the blitzer.
Big run from Ajayi on third and 4. Inside handoff, looks like he's in trouble, and he bursts through the hole to the New England 43.
Huge break for the Patriots. Alshon Jeffery makes a one-handed catch downfield inside the 10 but the ball squirts loose, hits him on the other hand, and bounces to a New England defensive back for an interception.
Commercials: Squarespace, Dodge Ram uses a Martin Luther King speech to sell trucks, which is unbelievably gross.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gross.
Tumblr media
Brady deep to Chris Hogan inside the 30. Next play, James White breaks about eight thousand tackles on a 26 yard touchdown run. Patriots doing Patriots things right before the half.
Gostkowski blows the extra point. 15-12 Eagles as we hit the two minute warning.
Tumblr media
Nope.
Huge play for the Eagles on third and 3. Corey Clement runs a swing route down the right sideline and Foles lofts it to him for a 55 yard gain inside the 10.
Next play, Clement powers up the middle to the 2. Nice power run from a third-down back. Clement again on second down. Up the middle again, gets to the 1. Patriots call timeout. 0:40 left.
Good lord, Alshon Jeffery got tackled in the end zone before the ball got there. Incomplete pass. They'll line up to go for it on fourth and goal.
Timeout, Eagles. They want to think about this. The offense is back on the field.
OH WOW. OH WOW.
Direct snap to Clement, flips it to Trey Burton, who throws to a wide-open Foles in the end zone. Touchdown. 22-12 Eagles with 0:34 left in the half.
Once again, Al Michaels says Mike Trout plays for the California Angels.
Patriots have the ball at midfield with 0:03 left. They're lining up for a Hail Mary.
They don't run a Hail Mary. They throw a swing pass to Amendola, who gains 20 yards as the half ends.
At halftime: Philadelphia 22, New England 12
Eagles coach Doug Pederson on the fourth down call at the 1: Our guys marched downfield and I wasn't going to let them get stopped at the one.
Tumblr media
HALFTIME
There are commercials happening, but I'm going to grab a snack and a drink. It's a local break anyway.
Commercials: "Unsolved" on USA Network. Pepsi.
Halftime show. Justin Timberlake. Opens with an unbelievably cool laser show under the stage. Now he's coming upstairs into the stadium. Not sure what's with the wardrobe choice. A black leather jacket with fringe and a bandana tied around his neck.
Justin Timberlake isn't my thing musically, but this has been a good halftime show. Better than the Coldplay/Beyonce thing. Better than the Black Eyed Peas. He seems to be changing stages for every new song.
Timberlake doing a "duet" with Prince, which is something Prince was pretty adamant about opposing when he was alive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mental note: Make a GIF of the saxophone guy Timberlake walked by just now.
I remembered. Look at sax guy on the left. He's the new Left Shark.
Okay, halftime show over. It was good. Not the best I've ever seen, but solid.
Commercials: A "Jack Ryan" series on Amazon, which seems like exactly the sort of show you'd make if you didn't want me to watch it. Verizon.
Dan Patrick: This is the first game in NFL history to be 22-12 at halftime.
Commercials: Promo for The Voice. Spectrum cable. Giant Eagle. This is obviously a local break. PSA about drinking and driving.
This is the first Super Bowl in history where both QBs were over 200 yards passing in the first half.
Tafoya: Asked Belichick why Butler wasn't playing. He said he makes decisions to give his team the best chance to win. Belichick says they need to do everything better in the second half.
THIRD QUARTER
First play of the second half, Brady misses a wide open Gronk.
They connect on the second play of the half. 25 yard completion downfield to the 50. Next play, Brady to Gronkowski again. 24 yards this time, to the Philadelphia 26.
3rd and 6, Gronkowski again. First and goal at the 8.
It's all Gronk, all the time. Brady zips it to Gronkowski in the end zone on second and goal. 22-18, pending the extra point.
Tumblr media
This is not optimal defensive positioning.
Got it this time. 22-19 Eagles. Brady up to 344 yards passing with more than 12 minutes left in the third quarter.
Commercials. Anheuser Busch. Turbotax.
Tumblr media
My dude.
Eagles called for a block in the back on the kickoff return. They'll start this drive inside their 20.
Third and 6, Eagles trying to avoid a three-and-out. Agholor with a catch underneath, breaks a tackle to pick up the first down.
A couple of nice runs from Blount and they're into New England territory.
Collinsworth suspects something's up with Jay Ajayi and maybe it is, but Blount has been great.
Ajayi looked okay on that run. Gains 9 on 2nd and 10 and gets to the New England 40.
3rd and 1, Foles to Ertz down the sideline. Gets to the Patriots' 26.
3rd and 6, Foles throws into the end zone. What. a. throw. Corey Clement double covered and the ball is perfect. Looks like Clement bobbled the ball. It's under review as NBC goes to commercial.
Commercials: Jeep. Westworld on HBO. Turbotax.
Ruling on the field stands. Touchdown. It was a close call. Collinsworth is flabbergasted. I don't know what a catch is anymore, to be frank, but I've seen worse calls than that. Extra point is good. 29-19 Eagles.
Commercials: Kia. Blacture.com. Eli Manning mumbling incoherently for something or other. Olympics promo.
Eagles called for defensive holding. Gronk sold it well.
2nd and 8, Dion Lewis up the middle for 6. 3rd and 2 from the Eagles 45.
Brady downfield to Amendola on third and 1. Amendola to the 26 yard line. Next play, Brady to Hogan, who falls into the end zone. Got it. Touchdown. 29-25 with the extra point to come.
Extra point is good.
Commercials: Avengers. T-Mobile. Jesus Christ Superstar promo.
Cutaways: Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, Floyd Mayweather, Jimmy Fallon, Bradley Cooper.
Commercials: Toyota. Wix. Kraft. The Today Show.
Brady is 19-32 for 404 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT.
First play of the next drive, Folds downfield to Agholor. First down near midfield. Next play, Foles to Torrey Smith. 18 yard gain.
Jet sweep to Agholor for 9 on 2nd and 8. First down inside the New England 25.
NBC graphic: The two teams have combined for 955 total yards, the most in Super Bowl history. And it's still the third quarter.
Third quarter ends. The Eagles have a 3rd and 3 from the New England 15 yard line.
After three quarters: Philadelphia 29, New England 26
Commercials: NFL promo. ADT. Ohio Northern University. Obviously this is a local break. State Farm.
FOURTH QUARTER
Patriots blow up a swing pass to Agholor on third down. Eagles will presumably attempt a field goal after a loss of 8.
Jake Elliott drills a 42 yard field goal. Sets the record for the longest field goal kicked by a rookie in the Super Bowl. 32-26 Eagles. AND THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T GO FOR TWO IN THE SECOND QUARTER.
Commercials: Monster headphones. Michelob Ultra. Groupon.
It's a Rex Burkhead kind of drive for New England. Burkhead run for 5, then Burkhead for 9, then Burkhead for 4.
3rd and 3 for the Patriots. It's clear from motion that the defense is in man coverage, so Brady throws to Amendola. Because that's what he does in man coverage. First down. Next play is a pass downfield to Amendola. First down at the Philadelphia 20.
Hey, have I mentioned HOW BAD AN IDEA IT IS TO GO FOR TWO IN THE SECOND QUARTER?
Swing pass to Amendola for 9. Second and 1 inside the 10.
James White up the middle. First and goal at the Eagles' 3.
Brady is up to 453 yards passing. Throws incomplete on first and goal. Gronk. Brady into the end zone for his big tight end. It's tied at 32, which Michaels describes as the Patriots' first lead of the game.
Brady is now up to 457 yards and 3 TD.
Extra point is good. 33-32 Patriots.
Commercial: Amazon Alexa.
"So I said to myself 'We need that point. We have to get it back. We need to go for two.'"
Tumblr media
2nd and 6, Foles throws deep to Smith on a one-on-one jump ball. It falls incomplete. Weird play. It's a huge third down here.
HUGE PLAY. Foles to Ertz for 7 on 3rd and 6. Nice throw.
Clock under 7:00 as Foles throws to Clement. Seven yard gain on 2nd and 8. It's third and 1.
Eagles throw on third and 1. Ugh. It's a swing pass and it's stuffed. Pederson will go for it on 4th and 1.
WHEW. They threw the ball and picked it up. Foles to Ertz for 2. Clock below 5:00. Eagles near midfield.
Philadelphia uses a timeout with 4:52 left in regulation. They have two left.
Commercials: Coke. Peyton Manning for Universal Parks and Resorts. The World Cup on Telemundo.
Nice play by Agholor. Foles escapes the pocket and hits Agholor on the run at the sticks. First down. 3:30 and counting. First and 10 from the New England 43.
Agholor again! Foles zips it to him across the middle. There was a tiny window to complete that pass and he did it. First down inside the 25. The clock is about to become a factor here - the Eagles are likely to take the lead, barring a turnover. The question is how much time Brady will have and how many points he'll need.
Foles is up over 350 yards now. It's pretty obvious that the winning quarterback is going to be the MVP.
1,081 total yards tonight. The most in any NFL postseason game, ever.
Tumblr media
Foles to Agholor for 10 yards to the Patriots' 14. Forced out of bounds.
Ajayi for three yards up the middle. Patriots burn their second timeout with 2:30 remaining in regulation. It'll be 2nd and 7.
Incomplete pass on second and 7. Third and 7 here. 2:25 left. Brady's going to have some time, it looks like. If they can get 8 yards on this play, that would be perfect.
TOUCHDOWN! I think. Yeah, that's a touchdown. He had the ball, took a few steps, and dove into the end zone. Ertz took three steps before the ball hit the ground. It seems obvious that this is a touchdown. Collinsworth thinks they have to overturn it. I think he's insane.
I don't see how this is a close call. He caught the ball, started running, dove, got over the goal line, and then the ball popped loose. How is this a question?
What is Collinsworth smoking?
Yeah, they call it a touchdown. That was an easy one, I think. Collinsworth is silent.
Eagles up 38-33. They'll go for two.
Nope. Incomplete pass. AND THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T GO FOR TWO IN THE SECOND QUARTER. DAMMIT.
Brady has 2:21 to put together a touchdown drive.
Collinsworth is still talking about this?
Michaels: In all five Super Bowls Brady has won, he has come back to win them.
Tumblr media
Brady to Gronk for 8. 2:16.
BRADY FUMBLES! HOLY CRAP! EAGLES RECOVER.
The game isn't over, but it's damn close. Start chilling nem bottles of champagne.
We reach the two-minute warning with 1:56 left. It'll be third and 5 from the New England 26. They'll run the ball, get the clock down to 1:20 or so, then either kick a field goal (if they don't pick up the first down) or take a knee (if they do).
Blount stuffed on third down. Clock will be down to 1:10 before the field goal attempt. Eagles take a timeout with 70 seconds left.
46 yard field goal, dead center from Jake Elliott. Eagles up 41-33 with 1:05 left. Hell of a clutch kick by a rookie.
Patriots try to run a trick play on the return, but Burkhead is stuffed at the 9. Brady needs to go 91 yards in 58 seconds.
1st and 10, incomplete to Hogan.
2nd and 10, incomplete to White. 0:48 left.
3rd and 10, Brady under pressure in his own end zone, gets the throw off. Incomplete. It's 4th and 10. Now or never.
Complete to Amendola for 12 yards. They spike it with 26 seconds left. They still need 78 yards.
Brady to Gronk. Gets out of bounds at his own 33. 0:20 left.
Brady to Gronk for another 16, gets out of bounds. Near midfield. 0:13 left.
Eagles take their final timeout to talk this over.
Incomplete pass on first down. 0:09 left.
Next play, Brady buys time, chucks it deep, and it falls incomplete in the end zone as time expires.
Tumblr media
THE EAGLES HAVE WON THE SUPER BOWL.
THIS ONE'S FOR PHILLY BOY ROY.
Tumblr media
Final score: Philadelphia 41, New England 33. Nem Eagles got it done.
Tumblr media
POSTGAME
Commercials: Scientology.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, I’m curious. Where’s Shelly Miscavige? Why has nobody seen her in public in more than a decade?
Tom Brady threw for 505 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. And lost.
Brandon Graham: We are the world champions because we worked our butts off.
The Patriots punted zero times. And lost.
Collinsworth: Nick Foles was unbelievable tonight.
Trophy presentation. Darrell Green carries the Lombardi Trophy to the stage. Weird that they'd have an NFC East great who didn't play for Phiadelphia do this. Apparently he had a big game in Super Bowl XXVI. I contend that game never happened, which is a shame because the Bills were supposed to be in it.
Tumblr media
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie: For Eagles fans everywhere, this is for them. This is the most unique, together, group of men I've ever been around. An incredible group of men, players and coaches. Attempts to dedicate the win. Dan Patrick blows through that, but Lurie somehow gets the microphone from him and dedicates this championship to Eagles fans around the world and especially to his mom and dad.
Tumblr media
Doug Pederson thanks Jesus. Praises his players. Has the best players in the world, loves the coaching staff and the owner. Has the best fans in the world.
Pederson: Wanted to stay aggressive with Foles. That was the plan coming in.
Ertz: No doubt that it was a touchdown. No telling what would have happened in the city of Philadelphia if it had been overturned.
Tumblr media
Nick Foles is the MVP. Jokingly says it was just another game. His infant daughter tries to grab the microphone. Foles says he's very blessed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Commercials: Motorola with Amazon Alexa. H&R Block. Discover Card. McDonalds. Eagles championship gear at NFLShop dot com. Xfinity.
Dungy: Foles made big plays all night, but when he needed a touchdown, he went to Ertz.
Harrison: Said Graham would make a difference on defense for the Eagles, and he made the big play late in the fourth quarter.
Bill Belichick: I obviously didn't do a good enough job coaching. We missed a lot of opportunities in the first half. Not good enough on defense. Not good enough in the kicking game.
Tumblr media
Harrison: If the Patriots are going to come back to this game, they'll need to improve that defense. Just not enough athletes.
Dungy: Foles knows this is Carson Wentz's team, but was ready to go tonight.
Michaels and Collinsworth awkwardly fist bump.

Hi I know you're probably busy with life, school, magisteriumday and all (thanks so much for that btw) but I was wondering if you could maybe write something about the squad going to see Hamilton. If you ever have the time to do so of course. Thanks for existing and making the fandom less tiny and more awesome
I know you sent this to me weeks ago, but I was struck by inspiration last night and I really hope you like it! 😊 It's jascalronmara where everyone is alive and happy and at college and it's also on ao3 under the same title! Is It A Question Of If, Sir, Or All Of Them? "I want to see Hamilton."
"What?" Call choked, craning his neck around Jasper's hair from where he was sitting on his lap to give Aaron an are you serious right now? look. "The three of us are literally cuddling on the couch right now, and Tamara's gonna come back to our room in a few minutes, and we're all around just having a great time, and you want to bring up some dead white asshole?"
"I want to see Hamilton," Aaron repeated stubbornly. "It looks really good, and they're performing in D.C. right now, and that's not far from the Collegium, and I think you'd like it."
"Besides, the guy who wrote it, directs it, and plays Alexander Hamilton is Lin-Manuel Miranda, and he did Moana, and you can't even deny that you love that movie," Jasper interjected.
Call gasped. "Traitor!"
"Because you know I'm right." The worst part? Jasper was right. Call had insisted on Moana for Polysquad Movie Night on the magic-powered laptop (optimal for cuddling) in their Collegium quad more times then anyone could care to remember. Call certainly didn't care to recall just then, especially as Jasper's smirk rose on his face (the one Call not-so-secretly adored), and so he decided to go mysteriously deaf for a while. "At any rate, the original cast from Broadway got back together-" Aaron began.
"-and we got tickets for four, with our own box, and they have just been confirmed and billed to my trust fund, so, face it, Call, we're going," Tamara announced as she marched into their room like a beautiful badass, set her equal parts shopping and studying by the door, slipped off her Adidas, took her Ray-Bans off, and plopped onto their couch next to Aaron, who gave her a quick kiss.
"Bam!" muttered Jasper, from where he was sitting underneath Call, who was wiggling and protesting at the idea of seeing Hamilton . "That's how you do it, Queen Tam! Outgunned, outmanned-"
"-Outnumbered, outplanned! We gotta make an all-out stand! I'm a' need a right hand man!" Aaron and Tamara jumped in. "What the hell." Call stared at the three of them. "You guys are so weird."
"And that's why you love us," Aaron's entire face was lit up by his smile, as his green eyes laughed happily and his hair was mussed up by the couch. Call swallowed, suddenly aware of the fact that maybe that was a small reason why he loved his signifs and they loved him, but a much more important one was Aaron's smile, or Jasper's thoughtful brown eyes, or Tamara's beautifully perfect hair and eyebrows, and suddenly aware that of course, there was no way he could say no to them when Jasper, Tamara, and Aaron were so beautiful, so cute, and so adorably excited about Hamilton. ~~~~~~~~
Call was plunged into a world of rapping Revolutionaries, "dun dun nun dun dun, dun ni na," and " pardon me, are you Call, y'all?" in a matter of minutes. During the drive to D.C., Tamara took shotgun while Aaron drove, for the most part, and she had The Hamilton Mixtape on continual replay, because "sorry, I don't make the rules and if you haven't listened to the Broadway recording yet you don't deserve to until after we watch the show- IMMIGRANTS! WE GET THE JOB DONE!" she screeched suddenly, as the refrain for her and Jasper's favorite track played.
Aaron nearly slammed into some senior citizen's Prius.
~~~~~~~~~
The four of them collapsed onto the too-small hotel bed at one in the morning, having finally arrived in D.C. after three Hamilton Mixtape-related near-wrecks, the Ten Duel Commandments played at least five times, and all twenty-four tracks on the mixtape being played at least twice, and somehow, despite their deep-set exhaustion, managing their usual pattern (Call and Tamara, dubbed 'the small ones,' in the middle, with Jasper and Aaron curled around them, managing not to fall off the edges of the bed). Call's leg was throbbing horribly but there was no way he wanted to move, not at all, because there wasn't any force in hell or heaven that would make him be sufficiently motivated to get off the bed, not with Jasper's arms around him as he snored softly and Tamara smooshed up against him, dead to the world, and as Aaron's luminous green eyes met his gray ones, filled with the deadening tiredness that only hours of driving in the dark could bring, and then Aaron gave a half smile as they looked at each other, and that was the last thing Call remembered before fading warmly into the dark.~~~~~~~
The next afternoon, Jasper insisted on he, Call, and Aaron wearing suits "somewhat because I want us to look nice and mostly because I want your asses to look even better," and Tamara was absolutely stunning in an ivory and gold skirt and crop top, and honestly Aaron looked like he was about to cry because of how hot his signifs looked, and Jasper interceded luckily with a "it's time to go," before Aaron could ruin his on fleek eyeliner. Call couldn't help but feel the same way as he watched Tamara, Jasper, and Aaron walk somewhat ahead of him on their way to the taxi and to the theater.
~~~~~~~~~
Call hadn't expected the cacophony of people that nevertheless surrounded the theatre entrance. He could hear a large amount of off-key singing, men nearly crying at the ticket office as they begged for tickets, and, mysteriously, on one memorable occasion, a rather small child screaming "PAY YOUR FUCKING TAXES!"
Tamara nimbly lead them through the crowd (god Call was so bisexual), flashing her phone with the tickets on it to some waiter or server dude with a suit on (an usher? Is that what those were called? Call had no idea) who did some sort of little bow to her, said "This way, Miss Tamara," and lead the four of them through some sort of private door. Immediately, the crowd surged towards the door, absolutely determined to get inside one way or another, but Aaron (who was so strong and Call loved it) decisively slammed it shut. The usher lead Tamara, Jasper, Aaron and Call up a staircase (he levitated a small bit, just to help his leg, but Call didn't think that the guy noticed) (hopefully) to their box, and departed.
"I want to sit on your lap."
"Call, no."
"Call yes."
~~~~~~~~~The lights were fading, and the theater was hushing, and Call could feel Aaron nearly tremble with excitement on his left side, and Jasper looked like he was about to cry even though nothing had happened yet on his other ("I'm just a little emotional, okay?) , and suddenly the theater was black and the curtains began to open.
A single spotlight focused on Leslie Odom Jr. as the opening notes to 'Alexander Hamilton' started, and as he began with a question: "How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a Scotsman-" and ended his part in the song so remorsefully and dramatically with "And I'm the damn fool who shot him!".
Call couldn't help but choke during Hercules Mulligan's introduction- "Lock up your daughters and horses!" and stare at the interactions between Hamilton and Laurens."Aaron, is it just me or is Lams a real thing? That's the ship name for it, right? Because there's no way they're straight. Aaron, LOOK AT THEM. LOOK AT MY BOYS SINGING ABOUT RAISING A GLASS TO FREEDOM! Aaron, those boys ain't straight. I should know!"
"Yes, babe, you're right, and we can discuss it later, but can we watch the show now?"
From Tamara's palpable excitement, Call could feel how much she loved ' The Schuyler Sisters' and he quickly understood why. It was stunning. Angelica was incredible- "include women in the sequel!", Call could already tell that Eliza was a cinnamon roll, and then there was Peggy.
Call thought Seabury might have been crying in the next song, and 'You'll Be Back' was hilarious.
He watched as Washington started forming his army and as Peggy danced with Laurens in the background at the end of 'Helpless.' 'Satisfied' was devastating, and Call snorted at Hamilton's little "oh shit" in the song after that.
And then Laurens shot that asshole Lee and Call pumped his fist in the air. Wow, he thought. I am really invested in this. How did this happen?
And then he thought, who cares? The French dude (Lafayette, right?) had a incredibly fast and mostly-unintelligible rap solo. Hamilton got to come back to the army. And then, the world turned upside down and the Americans won at Yorktown!
King George walked out again and then Burr and Hamilton started singing about Theodosia and Philip. Though Call figured that Burr sang about his kid and Alexander, Alexander screeched. "LOOK AT MY SON!"
Then came 'The Laurens Interlude.' And the four of them cried as Eliza read the letter, as Hercules took a sad swig of his drink, as Hamilton stared at her with a lost look for a few sad moments and finally declared: "I have so much work to do."
"This wasn't in the soundtrack," Aaron moaned softly. "Why? Why? "
And work he did, nonstop. Call realized that Hamilton's coping method was about as healthy as his own inferiority complex as a twelve year old- terrible. Yet he was still blown away by the choreography and his final defiant spitting out of "I AM NOT THROWING AWAY MY SHOT!" as a blackout dropped down like a curtain and a few moments later, the House lights turned on for intermission.
Jasper looked like he was about to smirk at Call and Aaron's red eyes as they exited the men's, but Aaron interceded. "Babe, don't start. We all know you were nearly bawling."
Jasper appeared thoroughly put out.
"And besides," Tamara announced as she walked near them. "We all know it gets worse."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Call nearly shouted. ~~~~~~~~~~
After the House lights faded away and everyone in the theater was settled and ready for Act II, a purple asshole (Thomas Jefferson) came onstage and flounced around with no idea of what was going on in America. Then Hamilton absolutely destroyed him in an epic rap battle. "I think they have major sexual tension," Jasper whispered in Call's ear. "Jefferson and Hamilton were like us. Before we fell in love."
Call started coughing violently.
Then the actor who had played John Laurens ( Anthony Ramos?) was apparently also playing Phillip Hamilton in Act II, part of the family Hamilton refused to take a break for. "Wanna know what both of Andy Ramos' characters have in common?" Jasper muttered softly. "Laurens and Philip both called Alexander Hamilton 'daddy' ."
Call was choking now.
But Aaron patted his back and he somehow managed to recover as Miss Maria Reynolds walked into Hamilton's life. "Dick," he could hear Tamara mutter. "You doesn't deserve Eliza."
And indeed, Hamilton didn't. He kept paying James Reynolds, and getting into fights with Jefferson and Burr, who was now a southern-motherfucking-Democratic-Republican. And then Hamilton managed to sell the nation's capital to Jefferson in exchange for his plan getting passed, so Aaron Burr became extremely jealous.
Call watched, transfixed, as George Washington stepped down from the presidency, as King George realized somewhat how the American Constitution worked, then Hamilton basically destroyed his own party during 'The Adams Administration.' "SIT DOWN JOHN!" Jasper gleefully whispered in Call's ear.
"Honey, have I ever told you how much I love you?" Call asked him in a low tone.
"Oh, yes. Loads," said Jasper confidently.
"This is not one of those times. Please be quiet so I can watch this bloody musical that you got me hooked on, babe, in peace."
Jeffershit, Mad-as-a-hatter-son, and Aaron Chilly confronted Hamilton about him supposedly lining his and James Reynolds' pockets with the Treasury- to which Hamilton responded with "No, but I am having sex with his wife and paying Reynolds to keep his mouth shut! Here! Just so everyone knows I'M NOT embezzling, I'll write my way out and write a pamphlet about how I had an affair! Yeah. That's the only way forward. It'll be published before I even have the chance to tell Eliza, so she'll find out about it by complete strangers waving my ninety-page sex scandal at her in the streets! Nice job, Alex! You're a genius!"
At least, that was how Call understood it.
Eliza sang a devastatingly heart-breaking solo while going full pyro and burning her and Hamilton's letters. "If any of you numbskulls ever date another person without talking about it to us first, I'll burn your Collegium graduating thesises after you perfect them," murmured Tamara threateningly. Call shuddered at the thought- his was twenty pages long already and he's been procrastinating...
Call couldn't help but wonder if 'Hamilton' could get any more dramatic or sadder.
It did both, because then nineteen year old Phillip Hamilton decided to a) manage a threesome with two random women he met on the street, and b) go on a crusade for his dick of a father, throw away his shot and get shot himself by George Eacker. As 'Stay Alive (Reprise)' played, as Philip lost his count at 7, Callum was bawling. Jasper and Aaron were blubbering beside him, and Call could see unshed tears glinting in Tamara's eyes from the stage lights.
Things didn't grow any happier in 'It's Quiet Uptown,' but somehow Eliza, cinnamon roll that she was, managed to forgive Hamilton. Call knew he wouldn't've.
James Madison broke the fourth wall by not wanting to sing another sad song, and Hamilton basically, in Call's opinion, bitchslapped Burr by giving Jefferson the presidency. 'Binch, you thought?'
And Burr hated that. Call got caught up in their passive-aggressive letter-sending, only to realize that bam, it wasn't passive-aggressive anymore. It was just aggressive. 'Weehawken. Dawn. Guns. Drawn. '
Hamilton was a jerk to Eliza one last time, leaving without telling 'the best of wives and best of women' the truth, yet the song was incredibly soft and mellow compared to what came next.
A duel.
As the now horribly familiar ' one two three four five six seven eight nine' began, Call could feel himself tensing up. The entire theater was on edge, enraptured. Burr sang of his enemy, of being scared for Theodosia. He fires. Time slows down as Hamilton decides to throw away his shot, as he sees the other side. His last words quote Laurens', as Laurens' last words quote Alexander's.
Burr strikes him right between the ribs, and Alexander Hamilton dies. Call realizes that now Burr's seen as the villian in their narrative. Burr sings about how he should have known that ' The World Was Wide Enough' for both Hamilton and himself. Call's pretty positive that every single person in the theater is openly sobbing. He's not even going to try to deny it.
Aaron lived.
Alexander died.
And Eliza tells their story. She's left with Alexander's writing, his need to be remembered, and her own remarkable compassion. She becomes an abolitionist and opens an orphanage for all the bastards, orphans, and sons of whores in New York City. Tears continue to roll down Call's cheeks as the final, haunting murmur of "tiiimmme..... who lives, who dies, who tells your story?" echoes through the theater.
~~~~~~~~~~
All three of his signifs' eyes were red as they exited the theater and stepped outside, holding hands and blinking in the bright D.C. sunlight. "Let's not waste any more time," announced Jasper, drawing Tamara in for a kiss on the sidewalk. White politician passersby openly stared, but Call didn't give a crap as he thought what the hell, why not? I love you all so much, and did the same thing to Aaron.

Okay there is so much sadness, disappointment, salt, and sadly, hate on my dash and in the search results so let me sprinkle some sugar: (These are just off the top of my head and based on the very few clips that I watched so it’s very few.)
The opening number. It's not the best, but it's not bad either. I loved the cast joke!
Ben Platt, an angel sent from the heavens, won Best Actor and I knew he’ll get that award ever since I watched that BOM "thing". And his acceptance speech is the fastest and cutest speech that I witnessed.
Gavin Creel, literal ray of sunshine as shown by this, won his very delayed and well deserved Tony. (So he's the better Elder Price? Please don't stone me I love both of them)
Cynthia Erivo and Leslie Odom Jr. Need I say more? Actually yes, they could've sang longer! I need my ears to melt for a longer time haha
Sara Bareilles serving pie
Ben Platt (sorry not sorry I really love the guy)
Denee Benton (her dress looks like a tree but she slayed it and I love her)
The Great Comet performance. I know it's not a good number to showcase what the show is about, but everyone knows it's an adaptation of War and Peace and it's nice to see a really fun and energetic number against the depressed tone of the novel. If I'm a non theater fan, I'd want to watch it after seeing a girl (Natasha) smash a dude's (Balaga) head with a painting. Like, THAT'S WAR AND PEACE?! Sign me up! Also, Marya and Helene's kiss. I have no words. Just this.
Alex Lacamoire hitting 3 on 3. This man is on fire!! He probably has a shrine for his Tonys at home. (Don't talk to me about GC here I'm just as disappointed and shocked as you but my man Lac won and I love him)
The tight knit family getting together again. And they performed my favorite song!
Baby Lin. And apparently this tweet??? LOL

Stage Door (Daveed x Reader)
Pairing: Daveed Diggs x Reader
Summary: The whole “you see color when you touch your soulmate” deal. It’s fluff (and smut. There's some in there).
A/N: Thank you thank you thank you for reading. You’re all too cool for me.
At least it was Friday. You just had to get through a day of work, then you could come home and binge-watch Netflix.  The entry level job you had been given was not challenging, and you spent a majority of your time reading or listening to music.  Though it was tedious it paid well, and you couldn’t complain about being able to make rent for once.
“Your shirt and pants don’t match.”
You sighed.  Your cubicle-mate had recently met her soulmate, and every day for the past week she had criticized your choice of outfit.
“It’s not like I can tell, Gina.”
She rolled her eyes. “Yeah, but I can, and it’s hurting me. You know what? I’m coming over this weekend and going through your closet.”
Rifling through your bag, you tried to make it clear that you were ignoring her, but she didn’t get the message.
“I’ll mark what goes together, then you’ll look good even when I’m not around to help you.”
“Whatever.”
“Gina!” Your boss’ voice echoed from her office.  Gina sprinted across the room, shutting the room behind her. Finally, peace.
Gina returned after lunch, wearing a dejected look.  “Karen says I’m not pulling my weight.” She put her head in her hands.  “I need this job, dude.”
You patted her back. “Just show me what you’re having trouble with and we’ll figure it out.”
“You’d do that for me?” Gina asked incredulously.
Nodding, you sat down next to her and flipped through the file she was supposed to be digitizing. It was simple enough, but you spent the rest of the day making sure she understood the process you were using.  Helping Gina set you behind a bit, but you figured Karen would be forgiving if you brought some work home for the night.
“Do you want to share a cab?” Gina asked.
“I think I’m going to walk. I could use the fresh air.”
“You’re going to walk the 50 blocks to your apartment?”
You nodded. Spending so much time around Gina had been making you a little lonely, and you needed to feel the human connection you always got from walking through the city.
Lost in your thoughts, you felt a hand grasp the back of your shirt, pulling you out of the walkway. A car whizzed in front of you, seemingly unaware of your presence. Despite the reminder of your mortality you found yourself blinking furiously, hoping against hope that the world would turn to color.  Turning to thank your savior, you found that he was doing the same.  You gave him a sad smile. He was handsome, but not your soulmate.
Living in New York City meant you touched hundreds of people each day, and yet you worked yourself up every single time.
Halfway home, your phone buzzed.
“Y/N!” You held the phone away from your ear, wincing. Mark had a set of lungs on him. “You’re never gonna believe this! I got us tickets to Hamilton! Tonight! Cancel whatever plans you had, we have to go.”
“It only opened like three months ago! How did you even-”
“My aunt had two tickets for tonight, but she’s got some weird bug and has been throwing up all day. She said if my uncle went without her she would kill him. Say you can go!”
“Yeah, definitely.” You checked your watch. “Shit, I need to run if I want to get there on time. I’ll meet you in front of the theater in an hour and a half.”
You hailed a cab, thinking ahead to your wardrobe.  Looking good wasn’t something you normally worried about, but this was a special occasion.
“Holy shit.  These seats.”  You looked up in awe at the set.  You were about ten rows back, dead center.
“I know. My aunt has connections.”
The show was phenomenal. You were speechless when it ended, unable to do anything but nod when Mark asked if you wanted to wait near the stage door.  He didn’t really have to do anything to get you to the front of the crowd. Being built like a linebacker had its benefits, you supposed.
You tried in vain to smooth out your crumpled program, holding on tightly to the sharpie Mark had thought to bring.   The door opened, and the crowd exploded.  Lin was the first to emerge, and you watched as he worked to sign everything he could reach. You knew him from the steady stream of magazine covers and television interviews, and he seemed just as kind in person.  Actors trickled out, matching the crowd’s enthusiasm despite the fact that they had just put on a three-hour show.
You looked at the cast list in your program, matching names to faces.  Anthony Ramos put his arm around you to take a picture.  Phillipa Soo smiled at you and your heart melted. Leslie Odom Jr. even laughed at one of your jokes! It was all too surreal.
A young girl wiggled in front of you, shouting, “Daveed! Daveed!” You smiled, and asked her if she would like a lift.  She nodded, and you placed her on your hip.
A woman tapped your shoulder. “I’m so sorry, that’s my daughter.  She’s just a little too excited.”
“I don’t mind at all.”
A low chuckle drew your attention. The girl in your arms was leaning forward, kissing the cheek of the man who had played Lafayette and Jefferson.  He was almost kneeling to accommodate the height difference, but he didn’t seem to mind.
“What’s your name, hon?” He asked.
“Mary!” She held out her program, and he signed it with a flourish. “I liked your songs the best,” she said, patting the top of his head.
“That might be the best review I’ve ever gotten.” He beamed at Mary, then at you.
Your heart jumped. You scrambled for something to say, but you were saved by Mary’s mother taking her out of your arms.
“Mary, say thank you.”
“Thank you!”
Lin appeared next to Daveed, who elbowed him and said, “This is Mary, our biggest fan.”
Lin’s face lit up.  “Are you really?”
Mary jumped up and down with joy. “Yes!”
“Well then, I think we need to take a photo together.  What do you think?”
Mary’s mother looked at you. “Would you mind…?” You took her camera without question, moving back to get them all in the shot.
“Honey, it’s past your bedtime.  We should be going home. Thank you so much.” They left with a wave.
Mark turned to get Lin’s autograph, leaving you with Daveed.
“Was that your family?” he asked.
“No, she just wanted to be a little taller, that’s all.”
He looked surprised.  “That’s… that’s really nice of you.” Flashing you a grin, he motioned to your program. “Do you want me to?”
“Yeah! Thanks.” Reaching out to take it, his fingers brushed against your hand.
Suddenly, color.
You stumbled back, staring at Daveed.  He wore the same expression of shock.
“Y/N, are you okay?”
Lin turned to Daveed, concerned. Trying to pick up what he perceived as a failing conversation, Lin asked kindly, “Who’s this?”
Daveed shook his head a little, processing all the new sensations.
“This is, uh… this is my soulmate.” He laughed. “I never did get your name.”
“Y/N.” Out of instinct, you reached down and took his hand, leaning into his side.  What could only be described as small electric shocks flowed wherever you touched. You heard a few small squeals, and saw several teenage girls taking photos and muttering to each other excitedly.
Mark’s jaw dropped. “You are so lucky I got tickets.” He punched Daveed in the arm. “Congrats, man.”
Lin was smiling like his son had just spoken his first word. He pulled you both into a hug. “It’s an amazing feeling, isn’t it?” He turned to you and Mark. “We were already planning on going out tonight- will you come? You can wait in the theater if the crowd is too much.”  You nodded, not wanting to let go of Daveed’s hand.  Bringing him down to your level, you pressed a kiss to Daveed’s cheek. Mark tugged you towards the stage door, feigning disgust.
You waited on the couch in Daveed’s dressing room, your right leg bouncing up and down.
“Y/N, chill. He’s coming back soon.”
“What if we aren’t allowed to be in here?”
“He’s your soulmate, I think we’re okay.” Mark laughed and put his arm around you.
The door opened, and you shot to your feet.
“Mark,” you heard Lin call from the hallway, “you might want to come with me.  I met my soulmate a while ago, but I remember this part.” Mark left the room as Daveed flung the door shut, striding towards you.
You wrapped your arms around his neck as your mouths met. He won the battle for dominance, his tongue exploring your mouth. He bit your lip and you moaned, kissing along his jawline. He lifted you up and set you on the makeup counter like you weighed nothing, fitting himself between your legs.  Your dress rode up, exposing your panties.
His eyes widened.  Running his finger along them he said, “I haven’t seen many yet, but this is definitely the best color.”  He moved them aside, slowly pushing one finger into you.  You captured his lips again.  He swallowed your moans as he inserted another finger and began rubbing your clit.
You reached to undo his belt but he stopped you. “I don’t want to fuck you for the first time in my dressing room.” Rather counterintuitively, he picked up speed, fingering you faster. “But I do want to make you come,” he whispered, biting your earlobe.
You bit your lip and whimpered, hips moving in time to Daveed’s thrusts.  “Can you come for me, Y/N?” he growled, and you felt yourself release, calling out his name.  Breathing heavily, your eyes refocused just in time for you to see him licking his fingers clean.
“You taste good.”
You blushed. “I think you’re a little biased.”
He shrugged. “Maybe.”
There was a knock on the door. “I’m sorry,” Lin said, “but the cast found out about Y/N and now they’re demanding you come out and introduce her to everyone.”
Daveed looked at you questioningly. “Should we?”
“Will you be okay?” you asked, looking pointedly at the bulge in his pants.
“It’s their fault for rushing me.”
As you were leaving, his eyes landed on the clothes rack.  He stopped dead in his tracks.
“Why did no one tell me that my costume is ugly as hell?!”
You laughed and pushed him out the door.

5 Things New Marketers Can Learn from Broadway’s Hamilton
The hottest ticket on Broadway, even after two years at Richard Rodgers Theatre, is still Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award winning Hamilton. Not only has the show attracted a stellar list of celebrity audience members and won 11 prestigious Tony Awards, but now with productions in New York, Chicago, and London, as well as not one but TWO National Tours with stops scheduled across the country we, “normal people,” finally have the chance to maybe snag a ($400) ticket, if we’re lucky.
If you’ve been living under a rock for the last two years and haven’t heard of Hamilton, here’s a 26-word summary for you: The story of immigrant, orphan, Founding Father Alexander Hamilton’s successes and failures while he helped create our nation, sung through hip-hop by an ethnically diverse cast.
With creator Lin-Manuel dipping his quill in the inkwell of the smash hit Disney’s Moana and actor Leslie Odom Jr. singing sweet jingles about which insurance company you should choose, Hamilton’s success is no secret. But what can new marketers learn from this smashing sensation? Here are 5 tips from Hamilton that marketers just getting started can use to move their career forward:
1. What Comes Next?
So, you’ve just entered the wild and ever-changing world of marketing. Congratulations and welcome!
“What comes next?
You’ve been freed
Do you know how hard it is to lead?”
One of the biggest mistakes I see early career marketers make is not taking the time to recognize the importance of how difficult it can be to lead a group of creative people. Take time to pick your boss’s brain about how they lead and what they’ve learned from the leaders that came before them. It will help you stand out from the pack and give you a chance to understand how your boss came to lead the way she does. Whether your boss is great or terrible, there is always something you can glean from their experience and by observing their leadership style.
2. (Not throwing away) My Shot
As an early career marketer, you have the opportunity to learn not only from your own mistakes but also from those around you. In Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda raps:
“I’m young, scrappy, and hungry
And I’m not throwing away my shot”
Use your hunger to your advantage! Early in my career, I sent bold emails to those I admired. I couldn’t believe how many responses I actually received! Work your networking magic and lean into your scrappiness.
“I’m a diamond in the rough, a shiny piece of coal
Tryin’ to reach my goal”
There’s no shame in being new to the game. Look for opportunities to learn in your day-to-day—practice presenting in front of a group, take a seminar offered by your company, take a class outside of work. Lean in and accept that you’ve still (thankfully) got a lot to learn.
3. Say No to This
Don’t jump at the first opportunity that presents itself unless it’s truly the one you want. It’s tempting to be romanced by a company that will hire you TODAY, by a bigger salary than you were expecting, or by a desire to enact real change within a struggling organization. Take your time in making the decision of where you will spend roughly 25% of your time each and every week. It’s okay to say no to an opportunity that just doesn’t feel right to you or one that goes against your personal brand. In the musical, Hamilton cheats on his wife repeatedly while knowing all along that he should Say No to This. Don’t cheat on your long-term goals with something temporary.
4. The Room Where it Happens
Make sure you’re getting out there. Keep up with your networking and make time for fun as well. As marketers, the easiest thing to do is become comfortable in your current situation, allowing your creative juices to become stale. Tap your friends in other industries for happy hour, attend an event, check out a new bar, or visit a new store. Be in The Room Where it Happens. You never know when a new opportunity might present itself or what you might grab inspiration from!
5. Blow Us All Away
If we lay a strong enough foundation
We’ll pass it on to you, we’ll give the world to you
And you’ll blow us all away…
Someday, someday
Remember when you were a little kid and you would complain to your mom about all of the cool stuff that adults got to do that kids weren’t allowed to do? “Don’t be in such a hurry to grow up,” she would say, “being an adult isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Enjoy being a kid.”
Enjoy being a kid in the marketing world. You have so much to learn and so much potential. I know that you’ll blow us all away, someday…but for now, be a kid! Don’t be afraid to embrace your inquisitiveness and ask as many questions as possible. Learn, grow, and lay that strong foundation to build your career upon.
If you’re an early career marketer who can’t afford a ticket to a Broadway show quite yet, you can wait for the movie or live vicariously through the soundtrack (and mixtape!) on Spotify. But if you follow this advice, I’m certain you’ll be able to afford front row tickets next to Beyoncé in no time at all. When you do, let me know what marketing advice you grabbed from the show. I can’t wait to hear what you thought!
