On the subject of UBI, I always ask about the MCU UBI: Tony is a billionaire who lives a life of luxury, Bruce has a serious chronic illness that requires expensive medical care, and Trevor just wants to sit round all day drinking and doing drugs. I take the UBI guys more seriously if they can say what each man gets from a UBI.
That's a somewhat odd choice of characters to think about how a UBI would function in the MCU.
So yes, Tony Stark would get a UBI. Relative to his private income, his UBI check would be totally inconsequential - and given the level of taxation needed to support a UBI, it's pretty much guaranteed that Tony would be paying far more in taxes than he would be getting back in UBI payments.
This is not an accident or a mistake or a flaw in the system; this is how a healthy social policy should function. When Social Security was established in 1936, FDR made a big deal of the fact that even John D. Rockefeller would get a Social Security check - because it hammered home the point that everyone contributes, and everyone benefits. Reciprocal solidarity would short-circuit the divisive politics of distribution and redistribution and cement a permanent majority coalition in support of a universal welfare state.
Tumblr media
Bruce Banner would also get a UBI check. Now, his financial situation is a little unclear - originally, Banner was a top research scientist at Culver University with U.S military contracts, so he would probably have been in the top 10% of incomes (affluent but not wealthy). After his transformation into the Hulk, however, Bruce was a wanted fugitive with no way of earning income.
After that, Bruce was an Avenger - and this is where things get odd. As established in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Avengers in the MCU don't get a salary: Tony gave them free housing and paid their Avengers-related expenses, but Sam Wilson notably relied on his veteran's pension and government contracts for his living (thus why his banker could justify turning him down for a small business loan rather than admitting to structural racial discrimination) and Steve Rogers even with his veteran's benefits, Social Security, and SHIELD salary couldn't afford a place in Brooklyn. This means that, while Bruce doesn't need to worry about money for his research and can save on rent, he does actually need the UBI for everything else.
This is very different from in the comics, where Avengers get quite decent salaries:
Tumblr media
$4k a month in 1983 dollars works out to around $150k a year (on top of free housing at the Avengers Mansion), putting them solidly in the top 13% of U.S personal incomes.
As for Trevor Slattery, I feel like your description is unfairly characterizing a working actor. Slattery was not a major success in Hollywood - hence why he took Aldrich Killian up on his job offer and became part of a criminal conspiracy - and he does have some serious substance abuse issues, but what he does in his private life is his own business. Hell, even when he was abducted by the Ten Rings, he kept working as an actor. That being said, Trevor is going to have a hard time getting UBI, both because he's a wanted fugitive and convicted felon (which would end his eligibility in the U.S) and because he's now living in a rural village in another dimension.

I for one would LOVE to hear about That Man's opinion on the Sokovia Accords, and any other blends of the real world into marvelverse as you have time and space for
Donald Trump is the horrifying combination of anti-Accords, anti-Captain America, and anti-Iron Man. I have THOUGHTS on this.
Okay, so CACW takes place in 2016, yes? which was a horrifying enough election year IRL, but in the Marvel Cinematic Universe we're looking at a scenario where I have postulated that Matthew Ellis is the Democratic candidate. Ellis was elected in 2012 after Barack Obama dropped out of the 2012 race post-Battle of New York as a result of pressure from the World Security Council; my best estimate is that Ellis takes Joe Biden's place as Obama's vice president in the 2008 election (apologies to our Irish Catholic granddad, we can probably safely assume he's still a senator in this AU) and coasts to electoral victory on a wave of post-BONY patriotism. (see my hard-hitting investigative journalism on who was president during the Battle of New York. George W. Bush was president during the events of IM1, we can assume that all real world presidents prior to Ellis served as usual, a.k.a. FDR was president during CATFA, Bill Clinton was president during Captain Marvel and the BW prologue -- actually, we know Clinton was president, because we see him in the BW credits, same with a few others.)
For better or worse -- worse, as it turns out -- Ellis's administration becomes closely linked to Tony Stark and James Rhodes, since Tony and Rhodey very publicly save his life during the events of IM3 and are responsible for his VP (Rodriguez, no first name that I'm aware of) being arrested for treason and probably other nasty stuff. Four months after that, the events of CATWS go down, and while Ellis is quoted in Steve's Smithsonian exhibit with the "Welcome Back" wall bannerand thus they presumably met, Steve is not closely associated with Matthew Ellis in the same way that Tony Stark is. Steve is also closely associated with a major blow to the American intelligence apparatus, the deaths of most of the World Security Council, the destruction of SHIELD, the "death" of Nick Fury, the disgrace and death of Alexander Pierce, and the arrests of a number of major American politicians, including Senator Stern of Pennsylvania. We know from CATWS that Ellis himself was a target of Project Insight; I have also postulated that the Hydra reveal had a major effects on his administration, including either the arrest or the resignation of his original Secretary of State. Thaddeus Ross got the SecState position not because he was Ellis's original pick, but because post-CATWS (or possibly post-AoU), he was able to leverage his previous experience with the Hulk and other recipients of the super soldier serum to be politically useful.
Ellis has to be in favor of the Sokovia Accords because his SecState is running the show -- in theory the Accords will be administered by a UN panel, in actual practice, as we see in CACW and BW, the intent is for either the American SecState in general or Thaddeus Ross specifically to have sole control over the Avengers. Less than ideal by anyone's standards. Pre-Accords, no one knows how this is going to shake out.
Let's go back to how Donald Trump hates Steve Rogers, like, so much. The feeling is mutual. I'm pretty sure Trump personally knew, or at least met, Tony Stark pre-Iron Man, because they would have been in some of the same social circles: those personalities are going to clash. That's not going to go over well. Trump probably made overtures to Steve because CAPTAIN AMERICA! we love America! what's more great for America than the Greatest Generation! only uh. it's Steve. and Trump pre- (and post-) 2016 is everything Steve Rogers hates. sure, he's a great piece of American propaganda, but he grew up as a poor second generation immigrant son of a single mother with significant health issues during the Great Depression. that didn't go away when he got the serum and it certainly didn't go away when he got out of the ice! so Steve probably rebuffed the initial overtures politely, but he did rebuff them, and Trump, hmm, doesn't handle that sort of thing real well. so then a big part of That Man's campaign turned into the "fuck Captain America" tour with a side of "fuck the Avengers," playing heavily into the damage done during the events of Phase 1 and Phase 2.
Which Ellis's campaign was probably also doing, but more circumspectly because Matthew Ellis is an actual politician and he's politically linked to two of the ten Avengers (Tony and Rhodey); Tony's also the one with the most obvious "pull." Steve's got some but Steve doesn't actually want to use it.
So on the one hand, if Ellis is pro-Avengers and pro-Accords, but in a "they should be controlled but we need them" sort of way, then his main opponent is going to not be in favor of either. In 2016 Trump does want the Avengers controlled (so he can have personal pull over the two Avengers he hates the most, Tony and Steve; he's probably also not fond of many of the others! like, Natasha and Wanda are both women and immigrants...). But he doesn't want them controlled by a UN panel, he wants them controlled by the United States of America. You don't let THE UNITED NATIONS give orders to CAPTAIN AMERICA. The Avengers are mostly made up of American citizens, they include some fine pieces of American engineering; this is America's business. So that's his focus on the Accords leading up to CACW.
CACW itself is a political disaster for Matthew Ellis and almost certainly flipped the election for him -- it goes so horrifically badly for him even if he got the "victory" of the Accords passing that there's basically no way to recover from it, though presumably he tried in the months between May and November 2016. The events of BW and the Raft breakout during those months put the nail in the coffin of Ellis's reelection campaign. Trump spends that time beating Ellis's failure to control the Avengers into the ground, along with personal insults about Tony's incompetence as a superhero and Steve's disloyalty as an American, etc. etc., along with all the other stuff from his 2016 campaign. Absolute disaster for everyone on every level.
(Ross manages to skate through into Trump's administration -- since we know he's there in IW in 2018; I think he's addressed as "Mr. Secretary" there but can't check rn -- because he's a slippery son of a bitch and probably manages to parlay his Hulk experience, his hardheadedness in going after Natasha Romanoff, and tbh probably the fact that his nickname is Thunderbolt Ross into a cabinet position. (We've all heard the speculation that Jim Mattis got the real world SecDef position because his nickname is Mad Dog Mattis, right?) It's possible that in IW he's no longer SecState and is in fact running that UN panel, but I think that table of people we see has U.S. military uniforms at it and Rhodey specifically refers to potentially being court-martialed.)
presumably there are no Avengers-level disasters between 2016 and 2018 (we know the events of Spider-Man Homecoming and Ant-Man and the Wasp take place then, but they're not "call the team out" big), which is probably the only thing that keeps the whole disaster from going up in flames before then. the fact that no one can catch Steve or the other rogue Avengers must be driving That Man crazy and he probably went on some vicious Twitter rants about that.
and then, in my heart of hearts, he gets snapped in 2018.
I am sorry for making you think about Donald Trump's political views but at least they aren't his actual real world ones (horrifying).

The good thing abt Steve and smth ppl are missing in the current discourse is he really did say Fuck America literally every chance he got and criticized the US govt every second he wore the suit and the govt absolutely hated him for it.
Even in the 40s he didnt want to kill anyone "for America", but as a disabled man couldn't fathom not standing up to the eugenicist Nazis. He wasn't politically motivated by nationalism but instead by human compassion. In fact, it is extremely likely he was highly critical of the US govt as a young man preserum given his impoverished life circumstances and constantly failing health. Living in NYC, seeing the shanty towns in Central Park, unable to afford life-saving medicine, watching Bucky and his mother kill themselves to make a nickle, surrounded by the radical leftist art scene in NY as an art student - Steve saw and lived injustice every day. And empathized with people who suffered different social misfortunes than he did (the woman crying in the movie theatre, "I don't like bullies", Peggy suffering sexism) although his personal list was extensive itself.
To him, the shield was always more of a philosophy and never attached to a specific country, which is what made it so easy for him to blow off 117 countries for Bucky, or tear the star from his chest yet defend the world in the vestiges of his armor against Thanos - he was fighting for what was right and not what was dictated by any country or political ideology (which is the main issue in Civil War with him being against the Accords, and one he was extremely well-positioned to understand having been used as a symbol and propaganda against his will many times, and having witnessed the dangers of state-sanctioned violence in WWII and CATWS. Even if Steve's argument was also faulty to an extent, you can absolutely see why he would argue for that perspective).
Steve was as FDR leftist artist in the Great Depression post Crash 1930s, disabled and chronically ill, diminutive and likely targeted by US eugenicits in NYC who vocally campaigned against disabled people being alive in the 30s (saying they should be sterilized or killed), son of an Irish immigrant single mother, lived in historically queer neighborhood of Brooklyn, an artist, and in the MCU coded as bi. He fights for whoever needs him, not for whoever tells him to. He was always highly critical and tongue-in-cheek/tired of the costume, drawing himself as the dancing monkey in CATFA ("Ready to follow 'Captain America' into the jaws of death?" he confides his mockery in Bucky, who heartwarmingly assures him that no, he is following Steve.) Steve continued to question, dog, and make trouble for the US continually after that until he wholeheartedly said Fuck You in CATWS and just dropped the shield (and never picked it up again until he handed it off to Sam, who he was confident could do something meaningful with it that he was not positioned to as a white man).
Steve visibly appears as a bygone era's "perfect man" and outright REJECTS both this supremacist definition and the shield's gatekeeping/the shield itself. Sam visibly appears as an "outsider" to exclusivist and systemically racist systems and yet EMBRACES the shield's potential. They are both radically standing up for the same cause in different ways and this comparison depicts why they are so closely aligned and best friends.
The irony of Steve Rogers as Captain America is hugely important to his character. In many ways, Steve is depicted as a reluctant hero who struggles with the strength of his own moral ideals versus the highly imperfect symbol he dons. This is different from other superheroes who usually self-create their alter egos as symbols of their more perfect, empowered selves.
In contrast, it is Steve's natural hardiness, independence, and righteous outrage in the face of wrongdoing which represents America's best ideals, but distinctly is opposed to its government which directs that he act as its image. As Steve holds the shield we see the image of a person who is critical of the govt for falling short of its principles and simultaneously embodies the ideal qualities that a equitable and free US is supposed to hold. Importantly, and definitively for his character, Steve as Cap shows how wanting the US really is for the goodness it robotically claims to have. And that is why he is important and impactful as Cap, essentially because he is uncomfortable with and critical of the costume.
The status of the suit often does not coincide with his personal beliefs. Yet he wears it to attempt to level up the system he is, for a while, mired in. Steve is not a patriot, not in the common sense of the world, he is instead a patriot of the humanist cause. This puts him on-site for many enemies, including those domestic to him and thus defines him as a hero.
Though his physical appearance suggests that he might wear the suit with a blind nationalist fervor a la John Walker (depicted as a perfect automaton soldier), Steve could not be further from that mindset (a good individualist man). As a now "perfect specimen" poised to be accepted and revered, Steve has the ability to choose an easy life where he is free of the hardships and ostracization he endured preserum. Yet instead, post CACW, Steve chose to continue to stand on the side of progress, the "little guy", to abandon the shield and now finally proudly embrace his pariah status and fight for those pushed aside or deemed unsalvagable or scapegoated (symbolized by Bucky) as he recognizes that while America's rule may benefit some, it still causes other to suffer and struggle (as he once did).
Not to mention, as a meta point, he was crafted as the "perfect man" from a sick, disenfranchised disabled boy who absolutely loathed Nazis by Jewish comic artists to mock the Nazi Aryan ideal - inverting their eugenicist visual image of perfection by empowering someone Nazis would view as worthless to burn their entire evil regime to ash.
He still, today, stands staunchly at odds with far right extremists and fascists in the US today and worldwide. He's the furthest thing from them and he'd have no problem in showing it. Choosing Sam as his successor, proudly, confidently, lovingly, and as a brother in arms who steps back so others can speak for themselves and tell their own stories, Steve shows his cultural and political understanding and his good heart once again - this time as an ally, friend, and a champion of the heroics of others.

Agents Of SHIELD S7E01 “The New Deal” Easter Eggs And References
In the season seven premiere, most of the team ends up in 1931 New York thanks to some time travel shenanigans. We love shenanigans, right? The is the last season premiere ever, and it’s bittersweet, but I’m diving right in.
As always, if you don’t remember this from the last few seasons of me writing up Easter eggs (posts are tagged aos easter eggs if you want to read old ones), this list assumes you have seen the episode. There will be spoilers.
.
.
.
Again, spoilers. Turn back now if you don’t want them. Okay? Good.
.
.
.
The Episode Title.
It’s a reference to FDR’s political work. I mean, Coulson even references it and says the episode title in the show. I kind of love when show’s do that? This show didn’t used to, but they did it a lot more the last two seasons, so maybe it’s a thing now.
The Title Card.
I feel like it’s unfair to call this an Easter egg, but if they didn’t put a 1931 timestamp on the top of the episode, the title card could have told you what era the team was in. Whoever was in charge of designing it did a great job making it look like a classic film title card.
Faceless People.
Okay, so the chronocoms erase the faces of the people they wish to resemble. This isn’t really a thing in the comics, but there is a character called “Faceless One.” He happens to be an alien who wants to conquer Earth as well, but is basically a big yellow ball with legs, so I doubt there’s any connection other than the cool effect.
Coulson’s Data Flood.
Okay, we get that literally everything Coulson says when he’s not talking to Daisy, Mack, and Jemma are quotes from previous seasons, right? Good. He even downloads the information on Ghost Rider, his own death, last season, etc.
Deke Has A Workstation.
Okay, not an Easter egg, but I think we need to take a moment and appreciate that Jemma built Deke a workstation and Fitz left him the tool we saw way back in season five. Why? Because Deke never feels like he belongs and he wants so badly to be close to his family, and now, we see that they thought of him while upgrading their ship. He has a place. And it’s right next to Jemma.
Elena Is Quarantined.
That’s because she was infected by the shrike in season six, not because the writers are psychic and knew there would be a massive epidemic going on when the show premiered. (Sorry, typed that before I realized Jemma was going to actually say it in show, so it’s staying in.)
Gemini And Koenig.
Gemini is actually a pretty popular name/codename in Marvel Comics, so it being used as, supposedly, the code name for the person in charge of the speakeasy made me laugh. It’s much more likely here that the bartender didn’t react wrong to the use of the word, that it’s used to weed out pretenders, hence the double barrel shotgun he affectionately calls the twins. I also like that it’s a tease for a Koenig appearing since we initially thought the Koenig siblings were twins and it turns out there are too many for us to count at this point (not really, I’m exaggerating, but great that grandpa or great-grandpa Koenig looks exactly like the modern day Koenigs. I mean, come on, they’re clones or something, right?).
“It’s not exactly your first time being separated by space and time.”
Okay, look, if you have to keep inserting meta humor into a show about how often you separate your main couple, maybe you should stop separating your main couple. (Yes, I know, Iain de Caestecker had another job he was working on in seasons six and seven, but seriously, it’s not funny. Your audience is tired of it.) I mean, to be frank, Fitz is one of my favorite characters in the show, but I didn’t really miss him in this episode? That might sound bad, but I don’t think they needed to comment on him being gone so much considering Jemma told them at the end of season six she didn’t  - and couldn’t - know where he was.
Wilfred “Freddie” Malick.
Daisy explains who he is, but look, it’s the father of Gideon Malick, the same Gideon who became the leader of Hydra after a broken SHIELD (and the Avengers) decided to squash all of its heads, the same guy who got Ward interested in visiting an alien planet where he ended up as Hive. He’s, like, ancient school Hydra, not just old school Hydra. What doesn’t make sense here is that they’re saying the SSR forms in response to Hydra. Technically, the SSR forms, and then they learn about Hydra, unless I’m misremembering, which is totally possible.
The Substance.
So, I gotta wonder… what’s in the test tubes? The earliest we go in the MCU is Captain America, which is still a whole decade after the events of this episode. Prior to that, Hydra experimentation did create the Red Skull, but… still not sure what’s in the tubes. I don’t really have a frame of reference from the comics to speculate either since Hydra was into literally anything and everything.
New York.
Okay, so I’m curious if anyone knows where they filmed their 1931 New York scenes. I have questions. Because they use the same couple of blocks for all their outside scenes, which makes me think it’s a studio backlot (which would definitely help keep the script quiet) and they’re going to use a different part of the lot next week. A friend asked me if I thought it was the same as the one used for Captain America when he’s in Brooklyn in his first movie. Cap’s first movie’s Brooklyn scenes were filmed on a Universal Studios lot where they had New York building facades and street signs. If you’ve been to the theme park, you basically know what it looks like without the 30s/40s dressing. I think it’s the same lot, and I say this because I actually kept thinking that they used the set pieces Disney used for The Newsies movie in 1992 while watching the episode. Do you know where that was filmed? On the Universal Studios backlot’s New York street set up right after it was renovated in 1991. Huh.
So, Mark Kolpack basically answered this on twitter when discussing VFX. They filmed their New York street scenes on the Warner Bros. backlot, not the Universal one, so I guess the people in charge of designing the set pieces did a great job because they look pretty much the same.
This Picture.
Tumblr media
This boxing poster was shared by Jed Whedon on instagram. Honestly, I didn’t spot it in the episode, but that could just be because I have a small television screen and I can’t read the signs unless I pause on a computer and zoom. I have bad eyes, guys. Sorry. Usually signage is something I spot on a second or third watch, but according to Whedon, this is set dressing in the episode somewhere. Probably on the street the characters walk down multiple times.
Let’s break down the names. Kitson is George Kitson, a story editor, writer, and production assistant on the show. He wrote this episode, and, actually, next week’s episode. The planet Kitson was also named for him. Titley is Craig Titley. He’s a producer and writer for the show, probably best known for writing “4,722 Hours” at this point. Brown is such a common name, but I’m going to guess it’s for Garry Brown who has directed a handful of episodes and is also a producer on the show. Bell is, I’m thinking, Jeffrey Bell, one of the producers and writers on the show. Tancharoen is for Maurissa Tancharoen, one of the showrunners, or you know, maybe her brother, who has directed several episodes (including this one!), or her father, who is in charge of transportation to sets. Gierhart is, I’m assuming, Billy Gierhart, who has directed a lot of episodes of the show, though I don’t think he’s directed any since 2017. (If you look at the matchups, it ends up being writer vs writer, producer vs producer, director vs director when you assume the Tancharoen is Kevin.) It says there are four main events though, and only three are listed?
Not sure if the October 15 date is intentional, but if it is, that’s the day “Eye Spy” aired in season one? Steve Roger’s mother dies on October 15, but in 1936. Not sure if that’s even canon since it’s in a promotional comic, not in anything on screen.
I’m sure there are more, and if you guys spot them and tell me, I’ll add them in. If I notice any on a rewatch, I’ll add them in as well. Who’s looking forward to the time traveling this season?

Agents of Shield Rewatch 7x01 The New Deal
A kind soul provided me access to all of season 7 (you’re a saint bless) so that means it’s REWATCH TIME!!
And yeah, I’m going to lose it after the first couple episodes it’s fine. But let’s get started
Dateline: NYC 1931
Luckily we don’t jump to that many time periods so I can keep up
I think
Immediately we are reminded that Chronicoms can’t human
This will be a consistent theme
Also they steal faces
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I LOVE THE PERIOD TITLE CARDS THIS SEASON
And we’re back with LMD Coulson. I’m neither surprised nor do I blame Daisy for pushing that button, but also...it was very impulsive.
And poor Coulson is having to adjust to a lot at once
Interesting in this process of remembering things he remembers the FS wedding which of course we will come full circle back to at the end
Simmons explains that this isn’t traditional time travel and that they’re just following the Chronicoms which I guess is a good way to handwave time travel
“We don’t know the rules because there aren’t any ok?”- the writers
ENOCH I LOVE YOU
I’m going to say that a lot just accept it
“Even the Kree let us make our own boot juice” DEKE NO
No alien contagions or purple hair. Director’s orders.
But I love the purple and Daisy should totally bring it back. I feel like Sousa would be into this based on nothing other than I write a lot of Dousy fic.
PS if you thought this season rewatch wouldn’t be all about Dousy you know nothing about me
But also welcome to my blog
They make a big deal about needing Coulson to potentially get ahead of the Chronicoms, but did they really? I mean other than the time loops and then Coulson’s magical computer abilities later, did they really use him?
Don’t get me wrong I love having him around but also it feels like they forgot about that thread
Coulson mentions that he will “re-evaluate” after this is all over and wow did we circle back to that in the end
Mack says the same, which I guess means build a heli-carrier?
Spoiler alert
These period costumes are straight up fire
Deke gives the time stream discussion but obviously they just forget that in the process of making an 80′s cover band and picking up a 1950s boyfriend
Lol Daisy does an amazing job threatening that cop
Oh but I guess we did use Coulson’s history knowledge so eh I take back what I said?
This healing set-up looks scarily like something Aida did
Elena is healthy yay!!!
And they made her new arms which Elena is reluctant to take, and I love her so much
It’s a speakeasy wheeeee
Chronicoms don’t know about rearview mirrors either I guess
Ok jk I forgot Coulson dies this season as well he’s a good robot
KOENIG!!
I’m a little confused as to why Fitz was going to be sending message since for him it was only a small amount of time, right?
Also Deke, honey, you totally are the natural suspect for messing things up Nana doesn’t mean anything by it
So there’s some plot here involving FDR supposedly but really it was an excuse to have a fancy 30s party
Daisy’s dress is amazing though and I want it for fancy occasions
And everyday wear
And Mack does look good thanks for noticing Daisy
Viscous Jemma is back
Coulson really is living the dream here
THE TARGET IS FREDDIE!
GASP
Also young Freddie is fine ngl
And Freddie and Deke have...chemistry
Don’t @ me
“You’re right this one really sucks” hahahaha poor old timey Koenig
HE’S A MALICK
Uh oh, May is gone
“You had one job Enoch” OMG HAHAHAHA
Also May is being a creepy spider sooo
Yeah that happened
Of course, the return of the rewatch means the return of Ellsey’s completely arbitrary and pointless rating systems! I mean first things first, we are firmly at a 500/10 on the Costumes Scale and will stay there for much of this season so...yeah. Coulson rates a 10/10 on the Robo Life Crisis scale. Poor guy. But happily this episode only rates like a 4/10 on the Time Travel Shenanigans scale. That rating is going to go up rapidly from here obviously.
This playlist for this most of this season will be era appropriate music, so that’s fun. Well, for me anyway. So this episode’s song is “Stardust” performed by Bing Crosby (but apparently he did a version in 1939 too, so rest assured this is the 1931 version). Honestly it doesn’t really relate to the episode at all, but I used to play this on the piano and sing it with my Grandma all the time, and she would tell me stories about dancing to this song so anyway, that’s my pick.

Trust Me (8/13)
Bucky Barnes x avenger!rogers!Reader
warnings: language
summary: in which she helps him out
A/N: i might get a pet turtle n i’m really excited
-
“Is that a hickey?” Steve asks. Y/N turns to the side to face her brother.
“Why do you three get separated by metal bars but I have to sit next to you?” Y/N asks.
“I’m still your brother,” he says.
“And I’m still mad at you,” she replies, facing forward again.
“You’re avoiding the question,” Steve says.
“It’s definitely a hickey,” Sam says.
“Did Bucky give that to you?” Steve asks.
“No, the other super soldier I’m hiding gave it to me, Bucky’s just a coverup,” Y/N says sarcastically, “Use your brain, dumbass.”
“You better not be pregnant,” Steve says.
“I’m not,” Y/N says.
“But you two are dating again?” Steve asks.
“Something like that,” Y/N replies. She looks down at the ring and Steve follows her gaze. He raises his eyebrows and looks ahead again.
“He proposed again?” Steve asks.
“Do you ever ask questions that don’t have obvious answers?” Y/N counters.
“Sorry,” Steve mumbles. A few minutes of silence pass then Steve says, “Congratulations.”
“My fiancé is in a box,” Y/N says, “What is there to congratulate?”
“Look, I’m trying to be nice,” Steve says.
“And I’m trying not to choke you out,” Y/N says.
“I’m sorry,” he repeats.
“I know you are. Just be quiet please,” Y/N says, “I need time.”
Silence falls over the truck again. Y/N closes her eyes and leans her head back, Steve watches her. He looks at the purple mark on her neck and then looks back to the front.
“So you like cats?” Sam asks after a few minutes. Y/N laughs and bites her lip to quiet herself.
“Sam,” Steve scolds.
“What? Dude shows up dressed like a cat, you don’t wanna know more?” Sam wonders.
“Your suit, it’s vibranium?” Steve asks.
“The Black Panther has been the protector of Wakanda for generations. A mantle passed from warrior to warrior. Now because your friend murdered my father, I also wear the mantle of king. So I ask you, as both warrior and king, how long do you think you can keep your friend safe from me?” T’Challa goes on. When silence falls upon them T’Challa calls again, “Captain?”
“As l—”
T’Challa interrupts Steve, “That time I was talking to the girl.”
“Just because you kiss my ass doesn’t mean I won’t hesitate to kill you,” Y/N says, quickly adding a sour-sounding, “Your highness.”
“What makes you think I’ll give you the chance?” he replies.
“What makes you think you can stop me?” Y/N shoots back. Silence blankets them for a fourth time. The rumble of the truck fills the air — a screech of the brakes following. The door opens and Y/N steps out first. She looks all over till she sees Bucky — trapped in a box with restraints holding his body. Steve steps behind her and she turns — looking up at him. A tear rolls down her cheek and she falls into Steve’s chest.
“I know,” Steve whispers into her hair, his hand rubbing circles on his back. Steve didn’t want Bucky to be captured, but now he had his sister in his arms and he was happy — not really caring that Bucky was in restraints in that moment.
“I’m losing him again,” Y/N sobs. Steve holds her to his chest comfortingly, whispering reassurances for her. She slowly calms down and looks up at him with fearful eyes.
“It’ll be alright,” Steve whispers, pressing a light kiss on her forehead. She nods and he gestures behind her with his head. She turns to see Sharon — Steve’s neighbor — and some man with three officers behind him. Steve keeps an arm on Y/N’s back as they walk toward the group five. Before anyone else could speak Steve asks, “What’s gonna happen to him?”
“Same thing that outta happen to you. Psychological evaluation and extradition.”
“This is Everett Ross, Deputy Task Force Commander,” Sharon says. She gives Y/N a sympathetic look but Y/N just rolls her eyes and looks away.
“What about our lawyer?” Steve asks.
“Lawyer. That's funny,” Ross says, “See their weapons are placed in lockup. Oh, we'll write you a receipt.”
“I better not look out the window and see anybody flying around in that,” Sam says as they follow Ross through the large building.
Y/N turns back to look at Bucky and his eyes shift to her. The girl has another tear slipping down her cheek and Bucky looks up — unable to look at her in the broken state. Y/N was confused on how he looked so calm, but then again he spent most of his life captured — this was probably normal to him.
Steve urges her on and they follow the man through a tunnel. Y/N wants nothing more than to grab the nearest item and hit him in the back of the head, but she knew she would be shot down before she could even grab a makeshift weapon.
“You'll be provided with an office instead of a cell. Now, do me a favour, stay in it?” Ross says.
“I'm not intending on going anywhere,” T’Challa says. Y/N rolls her eyes again. The only thought in her mind was Bucky. Her eyes travel to Natasha who steps in line with them.
“For the record, this is what making things worse looks like,” Nat says to Steve.
“He’s alive,” Steve replies.
“Hey Y/N,” Nat says. Y/N gives the redhead a sarcastic smile then looks straight ahead. As they enter another room Tony’s voice travels and he’s obviously on the phone.
“Try not to break anything while we fix this,” Nat says, walking ahead of the group.
“...Consequences? You bet there’ll be consequences. Obviously you can quote me on that ‘cause I just said it. Anything else? Thank you sir,” Tony says. He puts away the device and looks at the group.
“Consequences?” Steve wonders.
“Secretary Ross wants you both prosecuted. Had to give him something,” Tony says, “As for her he has no clue what to do.”
“Because I’m innocent,” Y/N says.
“I’m going to pretend you didn’t just lie to me,” Tony comments. He turns back to Steve to speak to him.
“I’m not getting that shield back, am I?” Steve asks.
“Technically it’s the government's property,” Nat replies, “Wings too!”
“That’s cold,” Sam says.
“Warmer than jail!” Tony calls.
Y/N turns to Steve and punches his arm, “I had my life back asshole.”
“I was saving you!” Steve exclaims.
“Look how that turned out,” Y/N replies.
“Isn’t this the same girl that was just crying in the lobby?” Sam teases. Y/N lunges towards him but Steve grabs her.
“Knock it off,” Steve says, “I get you’re angry, we all are, but stop being an idiot.”
Y/N sighs and walks over to the small office area that was designated for them. A guard watched her closely and she stomped a foot causing him to flinch. She laughs and continues through the door.
“That never gets old,” Y/N says. Immediately a certain screen catches her attention and the smile on her face drops. She goes over to the glass wall and stares at the monitor that showed Bucky.
“Hey, you wanna see something cool?” Tony’s voice split through the silence. Y/N and Steve both turn to look at the man. Tony holds up a box of some sort to show it off, “I pulled something from dad's archives. Timely. FDR signed the Lend-Lease bill with these in 1941. Provided support to the allies when they needed most.”
As Tony spoke Steve made his way to the table. Y/N watches from her standing position, glancing at Bucky’s monitor every once in a while.
“Some would say it brought our country closer to war,” Steve counters.
“Steve, if not for these, you wouldn't be here,” Tony says, “I'm trying to, what do you call it, a— an olive branch. Is that what you call it?”
“Is Pepper here? I didn't see her,” Steve says, changing the subject.
“We are kinda... well not kinda—”
“Pregnant?” Y/N asks.
“No,” Tony lets out a single laugh, “Definitely not. We're taking a break. It's nobody's fault.”
Y/N looks at Steve and he gives her an awkward look. She covers her mouth so she wouldn’t laugh at her brother and Steve looks over at Tony.
“I'm so sorry, Tony. I didn't know,” Steve says.
“A few years ago I almost lost her so I trashed all my suits. Then we had to mop up Hydra. Then Ultron, my fault. And then, and then, and then. I never stopped. 'Cause the truth is I don't wanna stop. I don't wanna lose her. I thought maybe the Accords can split the difference,” Tony explains, “In her defense, I'm a handful. Yeah dad was a pain in the ass, but he and mom always made it work.”
“You know, I'm glad Howard got married. I only knew him when he was young and single,” Steve says.
“Nobody cares,” Y/N mutters, more to herself than anything.
“Oh really? You two knew each other? He never mentioned that. Maybe only a thousand times,” Tony says sarcastically. He starts to put on his suit-jacket, “God, I hated you.”
“I don't mean to make things difficult,” Steve says.
“I do,” Y/N smiles, turning to look straight at Tony.
“I know,” Tony says, “Because you're a very polite person, she’s not.”
“If we see a situation pointed south,” Steve says in defense for him and his sister, “We can't ignore it. Sometimes I wish we could.”
“No, you don't,” Tony argues.
Steve looks down with a smile, “No, I don't. Sometimes—”
“Sometimes I wanna punch you in your perfect teeth. But I don't wanna see you gone. We need you, Cap. So far nothing's happen that can't be undone. Please, sign. Y/N, you too. We can make the last 24 hours legit. Barnes gets transferred to an American psych center instead of a Wakandan prison,” Tony says.
“He doesn’t need a psych center,” Y/N says.
“It looks like he tried to strangle you,” Tony says, motioning to his own neck.
“It’s not—” Y/N closes her eyes takes a deep breath. She opens them again and turns back to the screen.
“I'm not saying it's impossible. But there would have to be safeguards,” Steve says to switch the attention from his sister.
Tony sits, “Sure! Once we put out the PR — they're documents. They can be amended. I file a motion, have you, Y/N, and Wanda reinstated—”
“Wanda? What about Wanda?” Steve questions.
“She's fine. She's confined in the compound currently. Vision's keeping her company,” Tony says.
“Oh God, Tony! Everytime. Everytime I think you're seeing things the right way—” Steve says with disgust dripping from his words. Y/N lets out a short laugh, equally angry, but keeping her cool.
Tony interrupts, “It's a 100 acres with a lap pool. It's got a screening room. There's worse ways to protect people.”
“Protection? Is that how you see this? This isn't protection, it's internment,” Steve argues.
“She's not a US Citizen and they don't grant visas to Weapons of Mass Destruction!” Tony counters.
“Tony, come on, she's a kid!” Steve exclaims.
“Gimme a break!” Tony yells. He calmly continues, “I'm doing what has to be done, to save us from something worse.”
There’s a long pause before Steve nods, “You keep telling yourself that.” Steve lifts the pen he was holding and puts it back down, “Hate to break up the set.”
Steve leaves the glass room and Y/N turns to Tony. The girl looks at the pens then at Tony.
“What are these documents you’re trying to get Steve to sign?” Y/N asks.
“I know you and you would never sign them. Especially not after the way he reacted,” Tony says, “I’m not even going to waste my breath.”
Tony stands and leaves the area, Y/N now alone. She groans and runs in the direction Steve went — finding him being taken back by guards. He walks ahead of them and back to the office. Y/N moves in step with him.
“Everyone seems to hate me today,” Y/N laughs.
“Because you seem to hate them first,” Steve replies. Y/N nods in agreement — she couldn’t argue that.
They step back into the glass room and Y/N sits on top of the table, Steve stands at the glass. Their eyes scan the screen that showed Bucky in the container.
“The receipt for your gear,” Sharon says, passing a paper to Sam who had entered the room at some point during the silence.
“Bird costume? Come on,” Sam says.
“I didn’t write it,” Sharon replies. She notices the twins staring at the screen. She looks around before hitting a button — a screen in their small room lighting up with Bucky’s face and the conversation being played aloud.
Y/N doesn’t bother to look at Sharon but Steve gives her a thankful look. He turns back to watch his friend.
“I just want to ask you a few questions,” the man who sat in the room with Bucky asks, “Do you know where you are, James? I can’t help you if you don’t talk to me, James.”
“My name is Bucky,” Bucky replies.
Y/N bites down on her lip and stands. She plants herself next to Steve to watch and he wraps an arm around her. She would never say it but she was glad to see Steve again — the physical affection filled her with joy and minor relief.
The conversation went on uselessly but Y/N listened attentively. She whispered to herself about his answers, the rest ignoring her. The group’s attention was averted and Steve was looking at the pictures of the bomber.
“Why would the Task Force release this photo to begin with?” Steve asks finally.
“Because they’re dumbasses,” Y/N says.
“Get the word out,” Sharon explains, “Involve as many eyes as we can.”
“Right,” Steve says, “It’s a good way to flush a guy out of hiding. Set off a bomb, get your picture taken. It got seven billion people looking for the Winter Soldier.”
“You’re saying someone framed him to find him?” Sharon asked.
“No shit,” Y/N says — her eyes still glued to the screen.
“Steve, we looked for the guy for two years and found nothin’,” Sam says.
“We didn’t bomb the UN,” Steve shoots back, “That turns a lot of heads.”
“Yeah but that doesn’t guarantee that whoever framed him would get him,” Sharon says, “That guarantees that we would.”
Sharon squints suspiciously at the monitor and Steve turns to look at the man doing Bucky’s evaluation.
“Yeah,” Steve replies finally, “Y/N, what’s the creepy dude been saying?”
“Bullshit,” Y/N replies. Steve rolls his eyes at the response and continues to listen.
“Tell me, Bucky. You’ve seen a great deal, haven’t you?” the man with the accent asks. Y/N felt odd listening to his voice — she felt there was something she was missing.
“I don’t wanna talk about it,” Bucky replies.
“You feel that if you open your mouth the horrors might never stop. Don’t worry. We only have to talk about one,” he says.
“Why would he need to?” Y/N mutters. She turns, “Is forcing Bucky to answer illegal? It should be, right?”
Sharon shrugs and Y/N turns back to the screen. The anticipation could’ve killed Y/N — she had to know what was going on.
As if to make Y/N suffer more — the lights went out. Y/N’s eyes jump from one place to the next. She grips Steve and he holds her close to his body protectively. Steve turns to Sharon and she immediately gives him an answer.
“Sublevel five, east wing.”
Y/N, Steve, and Sam immediately jump into action. They sprint out of the room and through the building.
“Dibs on killing the creepy dude!” Y/N calls out.
“Don’t know if I can control myself!” Steve replies.
“Don’t make me hurt you to get my kill!” Y/N jokes despite being filled with pure rage.

Fantastic Tips About Gold That Are Simple To Understand
The value of gold has been high since the dawn of time. Gold is cherished by all, but few know how to get their hands on it wisely. Keep reading for advice on how to buy and sell gold.
When you invest in gold, you can't go wrong with bullion bars. The weights of these items may vary. They can be as small as half an ounce or as large as 400 ounces. The 400 ounce bars are generally hard to find.
Verify the market price before selling your gold jewelry. This way, you'll know whether you're really being offered a fair price. While dealers often give you market value, some are used to sellers wanting quick cash.
Whenever you make an investment in gold in the form of jewelry, always ensure that you have sufficient documentation and can return it if required. You have no idea if the person for whom you are purchasing the piece will like it or if it will fit. For this reason, it is important to purchase jewelry items that come with a money back guarantee.q
If you don't know what your gold jewelry is worth, consider having an appraisal done. It costs a bit of money, but you'll have a good idea of what your gold is worth. Make sure to choose an accredited appraiser from an independent shop to receive the most accurate appraisal. Understand that you probably will not get the full appraisal price when you sell your gold.
Anything gold is able to be sold. Decorations, flatware, broken jewelry, anything you have with real gold content is potentially valuable. Having 100% gold isn't required, either. It just needs to be plated or maybe only a part of it's gold. They won't be worth as much but you can still get money for them.
It's always a good idea to verify the spot price before making a purchase the same day. You can find this on a variety of websites, and it can change daily. Never pay in excess of 8% markup above the spot price. There are dealers who attempt to charge a higher amount, but they are unethical and simply overcharging.
Know what you have when it comes to gold. Just because something looks like gold, that doesn't mean it's worth the full weight in gold. Sometimes other metals might be mixed into gold to make it stronger. The less gold, the less value. Also, some items may only be gold plated. If you're not sure about the value of your items, you should have them appraised before you try to sell.
Read the fine print of your sales contract. If you want to sell gold to mail-in gold buyers, read the small print carefully before you sell. This lets you know how much you end up with after any fees are taken off the top.
When negotiating with the dealer, be sure to read everything with a fine tooth comb. This is not a small-change type of business; there is big money involved. You must be fully aware of what you are committing to. If the terms are not agreeable to you, get ready to move on. It's better to walk away and find another deal than run any risk to your personal information or financial wellness.
Before buying gold, know your dealer. To help guarantee that you are selling to a reputable dealer, make a call to your local Better Business Bureau. That way, you can learn about any complaints made about the company. If there are complaints, you need to find a different dealer.
You might be able to scrounge up some gold by simply asking your friends and relations if they have damaged jewelry items they no longer want. Simply purchase a quality jewelry scale to find the exact weight of the gold. This allows you to make a fair offer on the value of your friends' and family members' gold pieces.
Identify your goals before investing in gold. It's something that is great when used to shield yourself against inflation, but the investment is volatile. If you educate yourself on the gold market and have a game plan going in, you have a good chance at being successful.
If you are thinking about selling gold on the Internet, check the prices several times prior to proceeding. It's not uncommon to find a gold-buying business in your own town that will pay you more. It may be simpler to mail it in, but is that simplicity worth giving up a profit in the hundreds?
Have gems removed from gold you sell and then keep them. Note that tiny stones are more challenging to extract. Most dealers will not be interested in the value of small gems, because they do not add value to a piece that will be melted down.
A good way to invest in gold is to buy American gold coins minted prior to 1933. Gold coins were regularly minted and circulated by the US treasury before that date, when FDR recalled the coins. However, some folks kept them anyway, and you can find them for sale today.
You won't be able to get full melt value for your gold. A gold dealer is a businessperson just like all others. They must make money, so there needs to be some room in that purchase price for doing so. You will likely lose between 30-50%.
As this article has shown you, gold is a great thing to own and to invest in as well. Gold investing is wise, given that its value only grows with time, With this knowledge behind you, you can start collecting gold right away.

Happy Birthday, Cap
Tumblr media
Request:  Hey! Can you do Steve Rogers x reader? They fight, argue and tease each other, but secretly in love in love with each other and then one day somethaang happens and it slips?
A/N: So, I kind of went overboard with this one. It was too much fun writing not to go overboard, though. Let me know what you think!!
Word Count: 5,621
It comes once a year, like all holidays do, but this one has a different style. For instance, Christmas is usually characterized by family, love, warmth, and presents. Halloween is characterized by costumes, candy, and the things that lurk in the night. Valentine’s Day is characterized by love, candy, and happiness.
But the fourth of July, aka America’s Independence Day, is characterized by alcohol, grilling, and fireworks. Its energy is chaotic and wild, and takes no prisoners. Even if you’re not American, you celebrate the fourth of July, and if it’s ironic celebration, no one really cares.
Y/n was the latter type of person. She was American, born and raised, but didn’t honestly celebrate the fourth of July with pride. The America she lived in was nothing like the America the founding fathers wanted with they signed the Declaration of Independence back in 1776. The America she knew was tyrannical, evil, and spiteful. The America she knew cared more about its corporations rather than its people, and hundreds of thousands of Americans didn’t even have the resources to celebrate this day. How could they afford fireworks, food, beer, and all the other things associated with the fourth of July when they couldn’t even afford a roof over their head?
Though Y/n felt this way, she did still celebrate the fourth of July. She just kept the heavy chip on her shoulder as a reminder that she’s celebrating what America could have been, not what it currently is. Plus, it was Steve’s birthday, his 100th birthday at that. That was something she would celebrate wholeheartedly. Sam and Y/n worked all night decorating the common room with decorations. The most notable decoration was a piñata of an eagle wearing Uncle Sam’s hat. Y/n found it at a party store and just had to get it. They filled it with red, white, and blue themed candies. They also got loads of streamers, balloons, and a ‘pin the shield on Captain America’ game. She knew Steve would kill her for that one, but it was too good to pass up.
At nine AM that day, most of the compound (Y/n, Sam, Bucky, Wanda, and Natasha) dressed to the nine’s in America themed gear, grabbed noise makers and a speaker, and barged into Steve’s room blasting “Team America”. Y/n, Wanda, and Nat jumped up on Steve’s bed and blew the noise makers in his face until he had no option other than to wake up. When he was mostly awake, they sang “Happy Birthday” at the top of their lungs.
“Hey do you remember that one time I punched Hitler in the face?” Tired Steve asked.
“It’s not like you let us forget it.” Y/n replied as she took a seat on his bed.
“That’s because I want to remind all of you what I’ll do to people who piss me off.” He sighed and pulled the covers over his head. Y/n rolled her eyes and yanked the covers down so he would have to look at her.
“I guess you’re just gonna have to punch me in the face then because I’m not leaving until you get out of bed.” She grabbed Steve’s hand and pulled him up to a sitting position.
“Come on Grandpa, it’s not every day you turn 100!” Bucky cheered. Steve traded an ‘eat-shit-and-die’ look with Bucky before sharing that look with Y/n. She just smiled at him, loving the misery she was putting him through.
“Says the guy who is older than me.”
Bucky scoffed, “By one year asshole.”
“Steve, come on. We’ve got lots planned for today!” Y/n pleaded.
Steve groaned loudly before throwing the covers off of himself and exposing his bare chest and boxer shorts. Y/n took a few extra moments to admire his chest and muscles, which were deliciously defined. The group cheered sarcastically as he sluggishly got out of bed.
“Can I have some privacy to get dressed?” Steve asked.
“I guess we can make that happen.” Y/n responded and jumped up from her spot. The group filed out the door, but Steve asked Y/n to stay back for a second. She really didn’t want to just because she knew she’d end up staring at his chest too long.
“Yeah, what’s up?” She tried to sound nonchalant.
Steve grabbed a t-shirt from his closet and threw it on over his head quickly. Y/n involuntarily sighed, letting go of a breath that she didn’t realize she was holding. “What embarrassing things have you planned for today?” He only partially smiled.
Y/n scoffed and crossed her arms. “I’m offended! When have I ever purposely embarrassed you?”
“Every time we go to the grocery store you try to embarrass me.”
“Well maybe they shouldn’t play such funky 80’s music. If they didn’t play that music, I wouldn’t dance in the aisle.”
“That’s a damn lie and you know it.” Steve laughed. Y/n smiled and blushed slightly.
“You also just make it so easy.” Y/n leaned against his dresser. They always bickered like this, ever since Y/n joined the Avengers. It was usually fun, sometimes even flirty, but Y/n and Steve were known to get into an argument every now and then. They often had the same points of views on issues, but they had different ways of going about it. Steve just did whatever he felt like doing, while Y/n paid a little bit more attention to the rules. “Plus,” she added, “You know how I feel about birthdays. I gotta go all out.”
At least he should know how she felt about birthdays. She loved them and loved celebrating them. Life was something to be celebrated, and the day you came into this world should be part of that celebration. There didn’t have to be a big party or lots of presents; as long as you have your friends and loved ones, that’s all you needed.
But a big party definitely helped, especially when you’re Captain America and your birthday is Independence Day. This was New York City, home of Elise Island, so the city tended to go all out with the fireworks and celebrations. Y/n knew that Steve didn’t like fireworks because the noise reminded him of the war, so she thought a party would help to distract him from everything else. At least that was the plan.
“Yes, I do, but you still haven’t answered my question.” Steve said as he tied his shoes.
“Don’t you want to be surprised?”
“Y/n, I hate surprises.”
“No you don’t. You just hate the bad ones. Now come on.” She reached out for his hands, and he placed his in hers hesitantly. She pulled him up from the bed so he was standing and towering over her. God, he was so tall, she thought as she very obviously stared at his plump lips. She had thought about kissing those lips so many times.
Y/n, focus, she told herself.
They exited the bedroom and walked straight into the decorated common room. Steve’s first and only reaction was him rolling his eyes and sighing. “What’s all this?” He asked rhetorically.
“We were just getting ready for tonight.” Nat replied.
He turned to Y/n, “Um, what?”
“Your party, duh.” Y/n answered matter-of-factly. “Big day, lots of stuff planned, remember?”
They all headed to the dining room where they had a delicious breakfast prepared by the onsite chefs. They had eggs, bacon, waffles, and lots of other decadent delights. Once satisfied and full, Y/n clapped her hands, excited to get the attention of the group.
“Okay, so as we all know, we’re celebrating Steve’s 100th birthday today. Not many people make it to 100 and get to look the way he does.” Y/n and Steve traded a small grin, “And as much fun as birthdays are, they’re also reminders that life is short for most people who aren’t genetically modified super soldiers.” Steve and Bucky raised their glasses to each other, which earned a laugh from everyone at the table. “And because life is so short, we- and I mean Bucky and myself- decided that today, you should embrace life’s brevity.” Bucky turned around to a table behind him and grabbed a piece of paper that he handed to Y/n. It read ‘bucket list’ in big, messy handwriting that belonged to none other than Steve Rogers. Y/n turned the paper to face the group.
“Where did you find that?” Steve questioned with a smile on his face. He hadn’t seen that list in forever.
“I was going through some stuff a while back and found it in a box in the back of my closet.” Bucky said. He was also smiling.
“God, I think I made this my senior year?”
“Yep, on prom night after your date ditched you and we decided to get drunk at a park instead.” The two old timers laughed at the memory. Y/n couldn’t help but smile and giggle with them. She loved seeing this side of them. It was so un-Avengers like.
“Buck went on and crossed out anything you’ve already done, like win a metal of armor or,” she pointed to one of the lines and chuckled, “fly in an airplane, and crossed out things that aren’t relevant, like meeting FDR. Anyways, today, Steven Grant Rogers, you are going to complete your bucket list. Well, as much as we can complete before your party at eight.”
“Are you serious?”
“Oh, Dixie Chick serious.” Y/n said. Steve only understood the Pitch Perfect reference because Y/n forced him to watch it on several occasions. Even though he wasn’t a fan, he liked spending the time with Y/n. She was such a touchy person that they’d almost always end up cuddling in some way, shape, or form on the couch, especially if one of them fell asleep. Honestly, if it weren’t for Y/n, Steve would still be very poorly versed in modern pop culture.
She handed the list to Steve, “Pick which one you want to do first.” He scanned the list, looking for something that stood out to him. He didn’t know which item he wanted to do the most, so he did what any indecisive adult does: he placed the paper on the table, closed his eyes, circled his finger around the paper, and placed his finger on a random spot. He opened his eyes to find his finger on item ten: get a tattoo.
“The finger has spoken.” Y/n joked.
“What’s it saying?” Sam asked.
Steve cleared his throat and dramatically read it. There wasn’t a member in the group that wasn’t super excited. The fossil known as Steve Rogers was going to get a tattoo today.
“Do you even know what you’d get?” Bucky questioned.
Steve chuckled, “Actually no.”
“You could add a layer of excitement and let someone pick it for you.” Nat suggested. Steve mulled the idea over in his head; it would be exciting and spontaneous, both things Steve was notorious for.
“I don’t trust any of you to pick something that will be on my body permanently.”
“Eenie meenie minie mo it.” Y/n recommended.
“Well seeing as you’re the only person at this table with a tattoo, I guess I’d trust your judgment the most.” Steve said, motioning to Y/n. Her face transformed into one of shock. She was certain he would have asked Bucky to pick it out for him, seeing as they were best friends.
“Wait, you don’t want your best friend since high school to pick it for you?” She asked.
“I know nothing about tattoos, especially tattoos in this day and age. You’re the man for this job, Y/n.” Bucky replied. Y/n sighed at the heavy load on her shoulders. She had to pick the perfect first tattoo for Steve.
“Are you okay with that?” Steve asked.
“Oh, definitely. Just give me…an hour to think of something and draw it up.” She got up from the table but turned back to the group before she left, “I can’t go to a tattoo shop and not get one, so Steve, since I’m picking one for you, you have to pick one for me.”
Steve tried his best to hide a smile that was creeping onto his face, but he wasn’t doing a good job. Honestly, he was kind of flattered that Y/n wanted him to pick a tattoo for her. It didn’t help that he was helplessly in love with Y/n, either. To Steve, deciding a tattoo for her was an intimate and personal thing. Y/n was a thoughtful person and deserved a thoughtful tattoo.
“Aye, aye captain.” Steve said.
After their allotted hour passed, Steve and Y/n jumped into the car to head to a shop outside of Manhattan. The others decided not to come so they wouldn’t overcrowd the shop. The shop was owned by one of Y/n’s college friends, so she had been there before and knew it wouldn’t take long. It was also the only place open on a holiday.
To add even more excitement to the experience, Y/n and Steve decided they weren’t going to show each other what they picked out. It took a lot of trust, but Y/n trusted Steve more than anyone else. She knew he wouldn’t pick something she wouldn’t like.
“Is that Y/n Y/L/n?” A guy at the front desk with huge gauges in his ears and sleeves of tattoos on both of his arms asked when the pair walked in.
“Live and in the flesh.” She said as she ran over to give him a hug. “How’ve you been Nic?”
“Eh, can’t complain, just working mostly. What about you?”
“Good, good. Yeah, I actually got recruited to the Avengers about a year ago.”
“No shit, that’s awesome! Always knew you’d go far with that brain of yours.” Nic grinned from ear to ear. Y/n was a genius in school, and though she wasn’t technically a superhero, she was an incredibly useful asset to the Avengers team. Tony recruited her after hearing her graduate school thesis defense on using magnetic waves as intergalactic communication. Tony thought this was important after Thor and Bruce disappeared for months. Her research ended up being crucial for a lot of the work Stark Industries was doing.
“Yeah and this is my partner in crime!” Y/n gestured to Steve.
Nic looked starstruck as his brain processed who was in front of him, “Holy shit, you’re Captain America!” Nic stuck his hand out and Steve shook it hesitantly. He didn’t really want to be nice to someone who appeared to be flirting with Y/n, but this was also the man who was going to permanently paint his skin.
“Pleasure.” Steve said coyly.
“Steve’s actually here to get a tattoo.” Y/n told Nic, breaking the awkward interaction between Nic and Steve.
“Righteous! What are you wanting to get?”
“We actually picked out tattoos for each other, and we want it to be a surprise.” Steve said.
With that, Y/n offered to go first since she knew what the experience would be like and apparently, her tattoo wouldn’t take as long as Steve’s would. Y/n let Steve pick out the spot too, and he picked her inner bicep on her right arm. Steve put a blindfold over her eyes too so she wouldn’t be able to take a peek at it.
“Alright, you ready?” Nic asked.
“Born ready.”
The engine of the tattoo gun hummed deliciously, sending chills up Y/n’s spine. The things people said about getting tattoos were true: once you get one, you can’t stop. It was less painful than it was irritating, but was worth it in the end. Your body is a temple and you should be able to decorate it the way you want. That’s why Y/n had so many tattoos (she had nine and this would be her tenth).
After about thirty minutes, Nic wiped the tattoo one more time. “Okie dokie, you’re done! Go look.” Y/n took off her blindfold and practically ran to the mirror, Steve right on her heels. It was a triangle with a black and white mountain landscape inside the triangle. In between two of the mountain peaks was a rising sun with cute little sun rays coming off of it. There were trees lining the bottom of the mountains with delicate flowers underneath some of the trees. Y/n audibly gasped when she saw it.
Instantly, she knew why Steve picked this tattoo. Y/n very rarely went on missions with the Avengers because, unlike Tony, she didn’t have a super suit. However, one time, they had a mission in Wakanda and needed all hands on deck. Y/n worked in the lab with King T’Challa’s sister, Shuri, on some new technology. During this trip, they had a little downtime, and Y/n really wanted to explore since she had never been to Wakanda. Steve and Y/n went on an expedition to the mountains and they hiked to the highest peak. They had some dinner and a bottle of wine while the sunset; it was absolutely breathtaking and romantic. It was also the first time Y/n realized she was in love with Steve, and the first time Steve realized the same about Y/n.
“Oh my god, I love it.” She whispered breathlessly. Words couldn’t even being to describe the love she felt. She turned from the mirror and threw her arms over Steve’s neck. His hands wrapped around her waist and held on tight- just the way Y/n liked it.
“Thank you.” She whispered in his ear. He didn’t respond, but he didn’t need to.
Nic finished cleaning up the mess he made during Y/n’s session and called Steve over to the chair. Steve let Y/n pick the location too, and since it was his first tattoo, she picked somewhere that wouldn’t be super obvious- his right shoulder.
Steve’s tattoo took almost an hour once all the shading and line work was said and done. Steve didn’t feel any pain but could tell with a simple glance that his skin was bright red. He jumped up and jogged to the mirror. His breath hitched in his throat when he saw the work of art forever etched into his skin. It was done in the traditional style, which was very common back during World War II, and he knew that’s why Y/n picked that style. The tattoo itself was an orange and red phoenix that was surrounded by a white ribbon that read “still I rise”.
The quote came from Steve’s favorite poem, “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou. He first read it shortly after coming out of the ice, when he was catching up on things he missed. After meeting Y/n, who was very involved with civil rights issues, he gave the poem another read, and he realized the importance of it, not just for black people but for women as well. No, Steve was not a black person or a woman, but he grew up poor and sickly, was bullied his whole life, and was an orphan. He understood some of the struggles people could face. That poem resonated with him.
Adding the quote with the phoenix, the symbol of rebirth, was surreal for him. He knew that the phoenix was supposed to symbolize his return from the ice, to emphasize his resilience. The phoenix gave the quote even more personal meaning; like a phoenix from the ashes, still he’ll rise. Also, the traditional style was one of his favorites, and one of his best friends drew the tattoo.
He was at a loss for words. It was everything he had expected and more. It was pretty badass, too, which was essential for America’s favorite superhero.
“You like?” Y/n asked at Steve’s unusual quietness. He turned from the mirror to face Y/n; their eyes made contact and it seemed like the world around them completely disappeared. It was just them, sharing this unintended intimate moment.
“It’s amazing. Thank you.” He said in an almost sultry voice. Chills ran up and down Y/n’s spine, and she did her best to conceal the shiver. It didn’t really go unnoticed by Steve.
A loud noise behind them pulled them from their weird trance. The noise was just Nic cleaning up and he accidentally dropped something. Y/n and Steve awkwardly paid and made their way back to the compound. Y/n stared at her saran-wrapped arm the whole ride home. She couldn’t get over how good it looked and how well it matched her aesthetic.
“You really do like it, right?” Y/n questioned, filling the silence in the car.
“No I hate it. I already scheduled an appointment to get it removed.” Steve traded a glance with Y/n. She laughed sarcastically.
After arriving home and showing the rest of the group their new tattoos, the group decided to tackle another bucket list item. This time, everyone could participate, since item fifteen- ride every ride at Coney Island- was something everyone could do. Coney Island had expanded a lot since Steve’s last go around on a rollercoaster there, so there would be plenty of fun to be had. They even bought express passes when they got there so they didn’t have to wait in the crazy long lines that holidays usually brought to Coney Island.
Y/n knew being back here would be weird for Steve and Bucky, since the last time they were here was back when Bucky went into the army. If it was bothering them though, they made no indication of such. The group was thankful for this because they could all have fun. Even the crowds were having fun seeing these large, built men and women trying to fit in the little rollercoaster carts.
The best part of Coney Island though was the photo booth that was set up near the food vendors. Y/n loved those things and excitedly tugged on Steve’s sleeve like a child when she saw it. “Can we do it, please?!” She begged. He tried to act like he didn’t want to do it, but Y/n knew he was just as excited as she was.
The photo booth was too small to fit anyone other than Steve and Y/n in it, but the others said they were fine with not being in the pictures. They climbed in the booth and Steve fed the machine a dollar, giving them no time to prepare the pictures. In the first one, Y/n slugged her arm around Steve’s neck and pulled him into a side hug while making whatever weird face she could. The second picture was of Y/n with her arm still around Steve, but she did bunny ears behind his head. The third picture was the funniest by far because when Y/n was removing her arm, she accidentally punched Steve in the face right when the camera clicked. They were laughing too hard to do anything for the last one.
When they saw the pictures though, Y/n knew instantly that the last one was her favorite. Her eyes were closed because she was laughing so hard, but Steve was staring at her with this look in his eyes, like he had never seen anything so beautiful. Y/n looked at the picture and saw love in Steve’s eyes. Of course, she didn’t say anything to Steve about it for fear of making things awkward. She was content, for the moment, with the fact that she knew what the look was about.
They stayed at the park until about six, when Y/n suggested they head back to the compound to get ready for the party. They packed into cars, drove to the Avengers compound, and went to their separate rooms. Y/n took a shower, making sure to wash her tattoo well, and dressed in a casual, but cute outfit. She knew she’d be doing a lot of dancing, plus no one dresses nicely for a fourth of July party. She put on a nice, loose navy top, denim shorts, and brown sandals. After dressing, she put a little bit of makeup and blow dried her hair. It was almost 7:30 by the time she was done.
When she was finished getting ready, she went out to the common room to finish setting up. Since they put up most of the decorations earlier, it was quick and easy. They just had to set up the food table and take the cake out to thaw. They also got coolers filled with alcohol ready.
Steve came out not too much later, dressed in a gray v-neck and dark blue jeans. The shirt was cut just right, so anyone looked at him would see a good bit of his defined chest, and his jeans hugged him in all the right places. His hair was still messy and wet from his shower, and Y/n could tell he touched up his beard a bit. Y/n had one thought when she saw him: snack. He was looking so delicious she just wanted to grab a fork and dig in.
“Is anyone home?” Steve waved his hand in front of Y/n’s face. Apparently, she had zoned out while she was thinking about all the things she’d do to Steve if she could.
“What?” She shook her head to bring her back to reality- and sanity.
“Do you need help?”
She glanced at the time on her phone. It was about ten minutes until eight, which is when people were supposed to show up. All the Avengers were there already, as was some none Avengers like Scott Lang, Maria Hill, and Sharon Carter. Y/n was wary about inviting Sharon since Steve had a weird history with her, but he said that they both agreed to just be friends. Y/n hoped things wouldn’t get awkward between the two tonight.
At eight o’clock sharp, people started to file into the large room. The walls vibrated from all the noise and the temperature in the room seemed to skyrocket. Never before had this many people occupied this room, and none of the Avengers really knew how to feel about it. It was exciting, but weird. Thankfully, the alcohol was flowing and for most of them, that was a good thing. Unfortunately, Steve and Bucky couldn’t get drunk, but that didn’t mean the others couldn’t have some fun.
Y/n was feeling a pretty good buzz by about nine o’clock. The sun had set completely by that point, and firework shows all around the city were starting. Most of the party guests had moved on to the deck- except for one. Y/n found Steve resting on the balcony outside of his room, which was away from everyone else.
“Why is the birthday boy not at his own party?” She asked when she found him. He jumped, not expecting someone to walk up behind him.
“Jesus, Y/n, you scared me.”
She apologized as she took the seat next to him. “What are you doing out here? I’ve been looking for you everywhere.”
“Hiding from you.” He said jokingly. “No, I just needed a minute. Lots of people.”
“Oh I know right. I did not expect this many people to say yes.” She took a swig of her drink Sam made for her; he called it “the Capsicle” and boy was it strong. She handed the cup to Steve but he shook his head no. “Suit yourself.”
They sat in a comfortable silence for a little bit just watching the fireworks explode all over the city. Steve was the first person to break the silence, “You know, I used to love fireworks. I used to act like they were a little birthday present for me.”
“Dude, you’re the human embodiment of America. These fireworks are for America, so in some ways, they are for you.”
“It’s not the same anymore. Maybe I’m just an old man, but they’re too loud nowadays…reminds me of bombs.”
“So why are you out here alone then?”
“I’m not alone now am I?”
“No one’s ever truly alone, especially you Steve. You have an army of people behind you that would do anything for you. That includes distracting you from things you don’t like. Why do you think I threw you this party?” Y/n said sincerely. She would genuinely do anything for him. She knew only a handful of others that she would do just about anything for. The great thing was she knew Steve would do the same for her in a heartbeat.
Steve looked at her, waiting for her answer. She rolled her eyes, “I knew you didn’t like fireworks, so I threw a huge party with all these people hoping it would distract you. But then you had to come out here and be all mope-y and brooding…defeats the purpose.”
Steve stared at her, similar to the way he looked at her during their photo booth shoot. She had the biggest heart of anyone he knew; she was so compassionate, empathetic, and loving. She always found the positives in life, even when the whole world around her was dark.
“Thank you for the party…actually for everything.” Steve said so quietly that the moment turned from friendly to intimate. Steve was being sincere and he needed Y/n to know that. “You’ve completely changed my life since Stark recruited you, and I know the others feel the same.”
Y/n was touched but found it hard to believe. “You’re just saying that.”
Steve angled his body so he was facing Y/n directly; Y/n mimicked his body language unconsciously. “No, I mean it. Y/n, you keep us human. You help to remind us, to remind me, that there is still good out there. Every moment, no matter how terrible, has something positive about it. Stark has said multiple times that Stark Industries and the Avengers would not be where they are today if it weren’t for the work you’re doing. And he’s not just talkin’ about work in the lab. You’ve changed every one of us in some way. Stark’s nicer, Bucky smiles more because of your dumb jokes, Wanda’s more sociable-”
Y/n cut him off, “And you? What could I possibly change about you?” She had to know since his opinion of here was the one she cared about most.
Steve stared into her eyes. He knew what he wanted to say, but didn’t know if now was the time. If Y/n has taught her anything though, it was that life is short. ‘Embrace life’s brevity’ was what she said early. She was right- Steve needed to embrace life’s brevity. He never knew if he was going to get another tomorrow, or even another tomorrow with her.
The words ran off his tongue, like these were the words he was always meant to say, “You’ve helped me fall helplessly in love with you…not that that was hard to begin with.”
Y/n was dumbfounded. Out of all the ways she imagined tonight to go down, Steve admitting he was in love with her was not one of them.
“What?” She said in a voice barely above a whisper.
“Y/n, I’m in love with you, and I have been since I met you. I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t want to ruin things, and because things are just so great the way they are, but I can’t deny myself the simple pleasure of admitting my feelings to my best girl.”
Y/n blushed a hundred shades of red and felt tears sting her eyes. She couldn’t believe that he was being sincere. Captain America was in love with her- a nerd from upstate New York with a bad temper and the coordination of a baby deer. Steve Rogers, in all his 6’0” glory, was in love with her. It just didn’t make sense. Yes, she was completely head over heels for him, but for him to feel the same way felt foreign.
Y/n was sure she was dreaming, but even if it was a dream, she didn’t want to wake up anytime soon.
Steve was taken aback by her silence. He was sure she felt the same way; all the signs were there. He was starting to grow embarrassed at the thought of him emptying his heart out to someone who didn’t feel the same way.
He opened his mouth to say something, but in a moment of pure courage (and maybe with some help from the alcohol), Y/n crossed the space between them. She took Steve’s face between her hands and brought his lips to hers, crashing them together in a kiss that knocked the wind from her lungs. On instinct, he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her onto his lap while her hands found their way around his neck and into his hair.
The stolen kiss tasted like salt but felt sweet as chocolate. It was passionate, fervent, and delicious, but also delicate. It felt like worlds were colliding in the kiss. Neither one of them really wanted to pull away but had to once breathing became more difficult.
“I love you, too.” Y/n whispered lovingly after a few moments had passed. She cupped his face gently and stared longingly into his eyes. Oh, how she had waited for this moment. She pulled him into another, calmer kiss. She smiled a playful grin, “Come on, time to open your present.”
She climbed off his lap and pulled him up by his hand. “Oh really? What is it?”
“It’s less of a what, and more of a who.” She replied seductively. Steve was no longer fighting her grip and let her drag him into his bedroom.
“Happy birthday, Cap.” She whispered before they became consumed with lust, with each other’s bodies. They found their way between the silk sheets and for a moment, everything was exactly as it should be: pure and raw and full of love.

Nepenthe - Steve Rogers x Reader (Part III)
Tumblr media
Request: Hello!! Could I possibly request a Steve x reader imagine where the reader is younger than him? (Well, anyone would be younger than him). So maybe she is around twenty with a tragic background and she is the one who has been helping him adjust and then she helps him with the whole Bucky thing and they kinda end up together somehow. She is a SHIELD agent. (Something like a timeline from the moment he was revived up until whenever you want). I don’t know if it made sense, sorry. Thank you so much. Nepenthe: Something or someone that can make you forget grief or suffering. Safe heaven.
Warnings: My English, language, gifs aren’t mine. Credits to their original owners. Also, it deviates from the movies at some points but it’s pretty close. This is the last part. Guys, I am terribly sorry for not being more active but this semester is kicking my ass pretty bad.
PART I
PART II Word Count~3.5k+ MASTERLIST
Pending Requests
“Do you mind if I borrow a shirt? Mine is all messed up” you asked shyly. You were never the one to shy away from things especially when you wanted to impress the person who was standing in front of you but tonight felt different.
“Of course” he quickly answered and nodded his head as he walked over his wardrobe to grab one of his t-shirts. It was his favorite. He placed into your hands, his fingers briefly touching your causing shivers to travel through your spin. You glanced up and smiled, removing your hand quickly. It was that strange between the two of you since those nights back in Clint’s home.He had stopped acting like he actually wanted you, he had removed himself from your side and you had closed yourself. Everyone felt the tension whenever you were both in one room. But he hadn’t made a move. He had acted like nothing had happened. Sharon. You knew that those two had kissed and it hurt like hell because it was your voice that had pulled him out of his illusion, not hers.Wanda knew, not because she could read minds but because you would never look at him in the eyes. Natasha knew because she had found you crying in the middle of the night-she was with Bruce. Tony found out and wanted to strangle him but Bruce made him realize that it was probably a bad call. Sam and Clint had seen it coming from miles away. At the end of the day, you felt stupid. For trusting him, for believing that his kiss meant something, for falling for him.You turned around and walked into the bathroom, closing the door behind you. Or so you thought.Steve just stood there facing the door, not daring to look at the door because he had noticed that you had closed it but he never did hear the all too familiar sound. He slowly glanced up and noticed that the door wasn’t closed at all. He took a sharp breath and gulped trying to stop his mind from wandering back to the moments he had share with you. He had purposely stepped back. He wanted you but he knew that you were young and you deserved someone your age. People would always tell him that a relationship with someone like Sharon would be much better. But Sharon wasn’t you.He shook his head, shaking all the thoughts that weren’t supposed to be there, out of his head. He decided to simply close it quietly and slowly without seeing anything or being seen. His eyes stayed glued to the ground but he heard the sound of something falling to the ground and couldn’t help but look. It was your bra.He was staring at it like it was something he hadn’t seen anything like it before. Well, to be fair, he hadn’t. At least not like that. His mouth opened in pure wonder and glanced up a bit more, only to face your exposed back. He tried to remind himself that he had in fact left you with a million questions and that he was way too old for you. Maybe if he tried again with Sharon-His thinking was caught short.
“Like what you see?”. You knew that he was staring at you. You could hear his heartbeat. Besides, you were trained by the most lethal assassins. You could understand when people tried to sneak up on you. It never worked. He gulped again. You didn’t know what to think. He wasn’t supposed to be here but with Sharon. And yet you felt the burning need to turn around without your blouse on. You denied yourself that and you quickly pulled his T-shirt over your head. He hadn’t replied when you finally turned. Seeing you in his shirt got him all hot and bothered. He was such a bad liar. He was trying to stop thinking about you but he couldn’t.
“Um, are you… Alright?” he asked cautiously. You sighed and plopped down onto his bed. It had been a very bumpy ride, nothing was okay.
“It’s my fault. Those people. Innocent people. Dead because of me” you whispered, dropping your cool facade and letting him see you.
“None of what you said is true. It was most definitely not your fault. If anything, it was mine. You were trying to save my ass” he replied with a tone of certainty in his voice. He came and sat next to you and wrapped his arms around you without even thinking about it. You stiffened at first but you let yourself melt in his embrace. “Language” you softly reprimanded him and chuckled even though you felt your tears ready to escape your eyes. The thing was that if they were successful, you wouldn’t be able to stop. Just then Vision materialized inside the room, making you yelp in surprise.
“Vision, we have a door” Steve said slightly annoyed.
“I am sorry but Captain Rogers you wished to know when Mr. Stark was arriving” Vision replied apologetically.  “Thank you. We’ll be right down”. You wanted to stay between his arms forever.
“I’ll… use the door. Oh, and apparently, he’s brought a guest” Vision commented as he made his way to the door.
“We know who it is?” you asked, sensing that something was wrong.
“The Secretary of State”. What the fuck? Vision left and Steve tightened his hold on you. You just wanted to admit it.
“I’m scared, Steve” you whispered and cupped your face with his soft hands.
“I am not gonna let anyone hurt you, love” he stated boldly. His eyes locked with yours and you felt that you had never gotten over him.
“It’s my fault” you pressed and you lowered your glance but his grip was strong.
“Never say that again. Never” he said tenderly but there was a strange tone in his voice that made you look at him again. He leaned forward. His breath was falling hot onto your lips. He was so close. And then he stood up and motioned to follow him. You wouldn’t cry. You wouldn’t cry. No. Fuck him. You held your head high, arched an eyebrow and walked past him. You would have to deal with this later.
You had no idea what had happened. The only thing that was for sure was that you had been taken out and probably Steve wasn’t the one who had kicked you to the ground. You opened your eyes and you came face-to-face with a man of your past.
“Comply” he growled in your ear, before tugging at your hair as you had a hard time trying to keep yourself up on your knees. He hit you hard in the face with his free hand making you groan in pain. He left you to hit the ground again but he didn’t want you to stay down as he gripped you by your hands and pulled you back up, tying them together with a chain.
“Never” you spit. He was expecting you to put up a fight and that’s why he wanted to bring their asset back. What he didn’t know was that the asset wasn’t under his orders anymore and that he wouldn’t be coming back.
“You don’t have a choice, возлюбленная” he said but your head snapped at the last word. He wasn’t messing around this time. He was using those damn words. Again. You thought you had fought them off and HYDRA didn’t control you anymore. Maybe you were wrong.
“No” you let out a growl. You fought against your cuffs. You wouldn’t comply. “ноябрь” he continued, his smirk as evil as him. You wouldn’t forget, you wouldn’t comply. They had only used the words once before and they had made you kill more than hundred innocent people. You had recovered, woken up, with blood on your hands, face and clothes and you had denied to even say a word for a month. You didn’t want that again.
“звезды” he said again. You felt your inner demon trying to get out but you would die first than let that happen. An idea popped into your head. You would let them believe that they had you under their control and then you would run away. To Steve. His other words were muffled- you never got to hear them because all you could think of was Steve. You would fight for him if you got out of there alive. Screw Sharon. He was your oxygen.
“Доброе утро, Солдат” he greeted you-or rather, the demon he thought that he had set loose.
“Я готов отвечать” you played along but freaked out nonetheless. You hoped that this was going to work out for you because otherwise…
Tumblr media
“Where is she?” he demanded once he entered the room. He had lost you while he was chasing Bucky and T’Challa. He knew he shouldn’t have dragged you with him and maybe he should have listened to Tony.
“We… we don’t know but Steve… This smells like HYDRA” Tony answered him truthfully. They were in a glass-walled office overlooking the control room. Things were bad. With Bucky… like that and him being a criminal and without a shield… and you were gone. Things were very bad.
“Hey, you wanna see something cool? I pulled something from Dad’s archives. Felt timely. FDR signed the Lend-Lease bill with these in 1941. Provided support to the Allies when they needed it most.” Tony told him just a moment after, showing him two pens in a black presentation box. Steve looked at them, slightly surprised.
“Some would say it brought our country closer to war” he defended, arching his eyebrow, glancing up to meet Tony’s eyes.
“See? If not for these, you wouldn’t be here. I’m trying to… What do you call it? That’s an olive branch. Is that what you call it?” Tony said feeling uncomfortable and worried as hell at the same time. “Is Pepper here? I didn’t see her” Steve suddenly asked. He wanted to get out of that room and run like the Devil to find you.
“We’re kinda… Well, not kinda…” Tony trailed off, feeling the weight of the words sinking in.
“Pregnant?” Steve thought that would be a surprise. Seeing Tony as a father.
“No. Definitely not. We’re taking a break. It’s nobody’s fault” he answered, glad that no one was pregnant. He had lost Pepper and then he had lost you. His kind-of-adopted daughter.
“I’m so sorry, Tony. I didn’t know” Steve replied sincerely but his mind was somewhere else.
“You’re thinking about her, aren’t you?”. It didn’t feel like a question. It was a statement. Yet Steve nodded his head and looked away. Tony sighed. Of all people, you had to pick him.
“Sleeping with the enemy” he whispered dramatically and made Steve blush, chuckle and worry even more.
“No, Tony. That’s why I… removed myself. She is young. I am not. Hell, I’m hundred” Steve commented, momentarily forgetting about all the other problems.
“And Sharon made…sense, right?” he pressed further. He had seen the way you two looked at each other and he had confronted you about it many times. Steve looked at him pleadingly.
“We get out of this mess… you tell her how you feel. Got it?” Tony prompted him. When Steve didn’t react, he rolled his eyes and exhaled tragically slow. “She is in love with you. And yes, she might be like my kid and you and I don’t see eye to eye but her happiness is important. So, we find her, we get out of this and you… just quit thinking that she is too young for you. She is more mature than both of us and you know it”

The next time you saw Steve was moments after Zemo had pushed you to the center of the room, handcuffed and muffled by a piece of tape, next to the, now dead, Soldiers.  And you didn’t just see Steve. You saw Bucky and Tony as well. That was unexpected. Steve was looking around, trying to understand what had happened. He didn’t see you at first. None of them did.
“I got heat signatures” Tony informed the other two. You wanted to scream and yell at them to get out of here but you were too weak. You didn’t even remember how many days and nights you had been beaten up and left to freeze and die.
“How many?” you heard him ask. That’s when you tried to move. Every cell of your body hurt like hell but you wouldn’t stay there. You had to do something. “Uh, two”. “If it’s any comfort, they died in their sleep. Did you really think I wanted more of you? I’m grateful to them, though. They brought you here” Zemo appeared in a control room. Steve hurled his shield but it flew right back to him.
“Please, Captain. The Soviets built this chamber to withstand the launch blast of UR-100 rockets”
“I’m betting I could beat that” Tony commented dryly.
“Oh, I’m sure you could, Mr. Stark. Given time. But then you’d never know why you came” Zemo answered ironically but you finally got out of the cuffs and pulled the tape.
“You killed innocent people in Vienna just to bring us here?” Steve asked directly to him.
“Steve” you yelled-or tried to. It wasn’t as loud as you would have thought but it was loud enough to make them turn their heads. He gasped. You were covered in bruises and blood. You were pale and thin and… freezing. Tony blasted the glass of the control room but nothing happened. The next words that were spoken were the words that no longer controlled you. But Zemo didn’t know. You saw Bucky’s terrified face and Tony’s worried glances around the place, but you kept your eyes locked with Steve’s. He was angry. Not just mad at someone. It would be the first time he truly wanted to kill another man just because he had hurt you. He had killed many men in his past but this time… it felt different. He took notice of your emotionless and indifferent face and he thought that you were gone, only to be surprised when you moved forward to face Zemo and spit out your own words. “Words don’t control me anymore”. Zemo seemed surprised and taken aback as everyone else. Especially Bucky. He wasn’t able to do that. But he moved fast. He played the surveillance footage from December 16th, 1991 and all hell broke loose.
“Get out of here. Go to the Jet. Now” Steve warned you. He understood what was about to happen. The footage showed Bucky killing Tony’s parents. You knew long before Zemo had told you. He grabbed you, crashed his lips on yours, kissed you feverishly for a moment and then he pushed you out of the room. You didn’t have a choice. You were too weak to try and stop them. “Don’t die” you whispered but he was long gone. You ran towards the Jet and waited.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“You sure about this?” Steve asked for the millionth time. You too felt awful.
“I can’t trust my own mind. So, until they figure out how to get this stuff out of my head I think going back under is the best thing, …for everybody” Bucky whispered softly. He seemed peaceful in white.
“I can always try to help you Buck” you suggested warmly, knowing that this time you may never get to see him again. And more importantly, Steve just found his best friend again. And he was about to lose him. Again. Bucky smiled faintly but it was a true smile.
“Take care of her, she really is something else” he said to Steve, making you roll your eyes but you hugged him just a moment later.
“Till next time” Steve nodded his head as Bucky went back into cryo. You walked out of the room and smiled at T'Challa who was waiting patiently outside, not wanting to interrupt. “Thank you for this” Steve thanked him again.
“Your friend and my father, they were both victims. If I can help one of them find peace…” T’Challa trailed off as he looked at you.
“You know, If they find out he’s here… they’ll come for him” Steve commented, too worried to hide it.
“Let them try” he answered certain of this place. You stayed silent for a while, gazing out of the window. You would stay here for the night and then head back … home? What was home?
“You should rest Y/N. You both are welcome here.” T’Challa told you, taking in your state. You smiled faintly and nodded in agreement. You walked over to your room alone. You knew that Steve wanted to talk to him alone and all that, and to be honest you just wanted… serenity. Wasn’t that what we all looked for? You walked in and instead of admiring the big and obliviously wealthy room, you turned off the lights and opened the curtains, so that the only light that was illuminating your thoughts was the moonlight. You sat down and tried to push the memories away. You were too caught up in your own hard world that you never realized Steve was inside your room and staring at you worryingly. He thought it was his fault. He would always blame himself for letting you out of his sight in the first place. He felt creepy, watching you like that. He cleared his throat and you glanced up.
“Do you need anything?” he asked you politely. You had a chance.
“Actually, yes, Steve. I do” you answered truthfully. You wanted to know what you were to him. If you were something. He nodded for you to continue.
“To be honest with me…” you whispered and you knew that there was no turning back. Either, things went well or… that was it. No more play-pretend. No more lies and sneaking around. He understood that he needed to come clean with you. He knew that you deserved better than lies and bullshit. Yet he couldn’t find the words to tell you so. He just plopped down next to you as you were trying to put the pieces together; and then you just snapped. “For fuck’s sake Steve! I asked you to tell me the truth. I have been through hell, my head feels like it’s about to crack and I don’t even know what I’m gonna do. I have no place anymore. I…” you had started off by yelling at him but eventually had trailed off because… you just wanted to be left alone.
“You’re so busy trying to be what everyone else wants you to be that you don’t know who you are” he snapped back at you and instead of slapping him, you grabbed him by his shirt and crashed your lips together. You were aware of the… proximity of your bodies. And you were very well aware of Sharon but you really didn’t care. He didn’t respond immediately and you thought that you had screw things up.
“You deserve better than this,” he murmured against your lips but you have had enough.
“I am capable of deciding what I do and don’t deserve” you whispered as he pulled away a bit. You watched him taking a deep breath, trying to control what he wanted. Screw it. You brought his hands to your waist as his eyes traveled to where you had placed them but he was staring not just glancing. You could hear his breath coming in shorter spans, his full lips slightly parted as you slid your arms around his neck, leaning in just close enough to be able to feel his body against yours.
“I want you, Steve”. The moment the words left your mouth, Steve’s lips were claiming yours with possession, his hands pulling you to close the tiny bit of distance between your bodies and pressed himself against you.
“You have no idea how much I want you” he mumbled in between the hungry kisses. His hands traveled and tightly gripped your hips as he made you straddle him. It would be fair to say that you never joined T’Challa for dinner.

“So you like cats?” Sam suddenly said about half an hour before you arrived to the compound. You wanted to laugh at the remark, but you were scared out of your wits. You were facing jail and possibly something worse for Bucky.
“Sam,” Steve chided.
“What? Dude shows up dressed like a cat and you don’t wanna know more?”
“Your suit...It’s vibranium?” Steve asked.
“The Black Panther has been the protector of Wakanda for generations. A mantle, passed from warrior to warrior. And now, because your friend murdered my father, I also wear the mantle of king. So, I ask you... as both warrior and king... how long do you think you can keep your friend safe from me?”
“Did it ever occur to you that maybe he was being framed?” you snapped.
“An assassin, being framed? Captain Rogers, did you just pick this one up yesterday?” T’Challa asked.
You narrowed your eyes and an inhuman noise rattled in your chest from the anger.
“Y/N, calm down,” Steve ordered quietly. “If you don’t cool it, you’re going to make this a lot worse for all of us,” he informed with authority. You clamped your mouth shut, knowing he was right.
You finally arrived to some base where they uncuffed you all and your eyes immediately scanned the area for Bucky. An iota of relief washed through you when your eyes landed on him. He was okay. He was near you. But he was still locked inside that pod, like some wild animal, and so your heart broke for him. He looked up and met your eyes briefly then they were cast down to the floor again.
“Y/N,” Steve called, gaining your attention again. “What's gonna happen to him?” Steve asked, a slight thrust of his head went toward Bucky’s direction.
“Same thing that ought to happen to you. Psychological evaluation and extradition,” a man answered. At his words, you felt insulted and belittled. What did everyone miss about this? He was framed, and you were helping him. Simple as that.
“This is Everett Ross, Deputy Task Force Commander,” Sharon introduced.
“What about our lawyer?” Steve asked as you kept your eyes mostly cast at the floor.
Ross scoffed. “Lawyer. That's funny. See their weapons are placed in lockup. Oh, we'll write you a receipt.”
They took all of the guys’ gear and walked past you.
“I better not look out the window and see anybody flying around in that,” Sam warned angrily.
“You'll be provided with an office instead of a cell. Now, do me a favor, stay in it?” Ross requested sternly. This gave you a bit of relief but not a lot. You were still so terrified they were going to send you to jail, hurt Bucky, or separate you. The only reason you weren’t completely losing your shit right now was because Steve and Sam were right next to you. If you were separated, you’d probably fall to pieces.
“For the record, this is what making things worse looks like,” Natasha said as she slid up beside Steve.
“He's alive,” Steve remarked confidently.
When you walked into what looked like a control room, you saw Tony on the phone. “No. Romania was not Accords-sanctioned. And, Colonel Rhodes is supervising cleanup.”
“Try not to break anything while we fix this,” Nat warned as she stepped away.
“Consequences? You bet there'll be consequences. Obviously you can quote me on that because I just said it. Anything else? Thank you, sir.” Tony hung up and stepped towards you all.
“Consequences?” Steve repeated incredulously.
“Secretary Ross wants all three of you prosecuted. Had to give him something,” Tony informed. At this your breathing hitched and you started to shake. You were sure you were having a panic attack.
“Steve,” you choked out as you trembled beside him. He wrapped an arm around you and soothed you. You could attack soldiers, military, highly trained assassins all the live long day - because you could get away. What if they put you in some maximum security prison? Then what would happen to you?
“I'm not getting that shield back, am I?” Steve called after Tony and Nat’s retreating forms as he continued to grip you to keep you level.
“Technically, it's the government's property. Wings, too,” Nat informed.
“That's cold,” Sam retorted.
“Warmer than jail,” Tony remarked over his shoulder.
Man you hated how cocky they were being. Had you signed the Accords would this have been okay? No. The UN would’ve made the same call as the Terrorist Task Force. So what gave them the right to act high and mighty?
Sam was sitting outside with the others while you and Steve went in the conference room for you to decompress. You sat down but your legs were bouncing up and down while your hands still shook.
“Hey, kid, you okay?” Steve asked from across the room.
You shook your head before a few tears fell to the table, the dam on your nerves finally breaking.
“Hey, shh, shh,” he soothed as he made his way over to sit next to you. “It’s gonna be okay.”
“How do you know that?” you asked through a sob as you turned to face him.
He sighed as he peered at you. “I should’ve never let you come along. I knew this would happen. Even if we got Bucky without all the gunfire, it would’ve still been a problem…”
“I chose to come, Steve,” you reminded, the crying and sobbing slowing down. “I don’t regret what we did. Your friend needed help and we gave him that. I just...don’t want to go to prison.”
“They won’t let that happen,” Steve vowed.
“Are you sure?” you asked.
Steve gave you a small, sad smile. “I don’t know, but I hope they do.”
Suddenly, Tony stepped inside the conference room. Your eyes cast up to him warily. Tony was no longer the fun, lovable, sarcastic genius you’d known. This was the Tony that was rubbing it in your faces that you didn’t sign the Accords. This was the pias Tony.
“Hey, you wanna see something cool? I pulled something from Dad's archives. Felt timely,” Tony stated as he opened a box containing two pens. “FDR signed the Lend-Lease bill with these in 1941. Provided support to the Allies when they needed it most.”
Steve mentioned how some felt it brought them closer to war, and they started to ramble about not seeing Pepper and why she wasn’t there but all you could do was try to steady your breathing and your hands. Eventually they turned to talking about Tony’s dad and you half tuned them out to keep an eye on Bucky on the screen.
God, you wanted to be down there, keeping him company. Why? You had no clue. Just something about him made you want to protect him. Ironic, that a girl with your body would need to protect someone like him, with a body to take down a tank. But it was true. You wanted to be down there to comfort him, to make sure he was okay, to keep him calm, to protect him from their prying eyes and questions…
For some reason, you were brought back to the present as Tony was talking.
“Sometimes I wanna punch you in your perfect teeth. But I don't wanna see you gone. We need you, Cap. You too, Y/N. So far, nothing's happened that can't be undone, if both of you sign. We can make the last 24 hours legit. Barnes gets transferred to an American psych-center... instead of a Wakandan prison…” he offered.
Bucky? In Wankandan prison? No. No. There had to be some other offer. This was unacceptable. Your already tense body got even more rigid at his words.
“I'm not saying it's impossible, but there would have to be safeguards,” Steve said as he picked up a pen and started to walk around the room.
“Sure. Once we put out the PR fire, those documents can be amended. I'd file a motion to have you, Y/N, and Wanda reinstated…”
“Wait, what’s wrong with Wanda?” you asked suddenly. You were surprised you were able to speak.
“She’s confined to the compound,” Tony informed.
“What?” Steve demanded. “Oh God, Tony! Every time. Every time I think you see things the right way…”
“What? It's a 100 acres with a lap pool. It's got a screening room. There's worse ways to protect people,” Tony retorted.
“How is it protection if you won’t let her leave?” you quietly asked.
“Kid, you’re young. You don’t know what I know. You haven’t seen the world like I have.”
“Don’t patronize her, Tony,” Steve commanded, gesturing to you before he put his hands on his hips.
“Look, both of you don’t realize that this is necessary,” he barked.
“Necessary? This is internment,” Steve argued.
“She's not a US citizen and they don’t grant visas to weapons of mass destruction!” Tony stated with ferocity.
“Does that go the same for me?” you asked quietly, your eyes on your hands on the table.
“Y/N, I didn’t mean it like that--”
“But you did, Tony,” you remarked, looking up at him with tear rimmed eyes. “I’m not a US Citizen and I can conjure weapons and all sorts of things.”
“Her and Wanda are just kids,” Steve said quietly.
“Give me a break, here!” he exasperated. “I’m trying to do what’s best to stave off something worse. So that they don’t come for Wanda or you,” he said, pointing to you.
Steve shook his head as he returned the pen and told Tony to keep telling himself whatever he needed to believe. Leaving you alone with the billionaire philanthropist.
“Kid, you gotta know I don’t want this,” he said, looking at you.
“I know, Tony. I don’t either,” you admitted. “I know where you’re coming from. I know you’re pulling every string right now to keep all of us out of jail. I know you’re trying to keep it so Wanda isn’t attacked and the same for me.”
“And you aren’t making it any easier on yourself by running around with Capscicle and aiding a wanted criminal,” he noted as he stood and shoved his hands in his suit pants pockets while he stared down at you.
“We had to help him,” you said.
“He killed people, Y/N!” he shouted, leaning down and looking at you, gesturing vaguely to the space behind him. “And you want to help him?”
“So have we!” you barked back. He took a step back and looked at you in shock. “All of us. We’ve done it. Maybe not intentionally. But it happened. Wanda? What? Should she be arrested too?”
Tony stared at you with his signature bitch face.
“Not everything is black and white,” you quietly remarked, sitting back in your chair.
“Will you just sign them now? We could make this all disappear…” Tony offered after a moment, trying to bite his tongue.
You shook your head gently. “I still can’t, not if Steve won’t.”
“For Christ’s sakes,” he muttered angrily. “Fine. When this all goes belly up, and it will, don’t expect any help from me. None. Expect your buddy Steve to bail you out, because I won’t.” He stormed out and you felt even worse than before, more tears threatening at the edges of your eyes.
You felt so torn. You knew Tony was right, that the government would eventually come for you all, but then it would show the world that you all weren’t the dangerous ones. You couldn’t help but feel like Steve was right, signing away your right to choose was a way of saying, “Yes, we are dangerous and need someone to control us.” And that was something you couldn’t agree with.

Fear
From this request: Can you write a Cas x reader where shes cursed with something that makes her really scared and jumpy (like ghost sickness!! from the one episode) and she clings to him and he thinks its really cute and he gets protective?
*Cas-centric
______________________________________________________________
“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
With a wave of her hand, the witch disappeared. You looked around, wondering what the hell was going on.
“Y/N!”
You jumped upon hearing your name called. You heard the pounding footsteps of the Winchesters coming up the stairs. You met them in the hall, hand still on the gun tucked inside your belt.
“What happened?” Dean asked. “Where’s the witch?”
“She… left.”
“Are you hurt?” Sam asked.
You shook your head.
“Any idea where she went? Did she do anything before she left?” Dean asked, searching the room behind you as if you somehow misinterpreted the witch’s disappearance.
“She quoted FDR.”
Sam’s brow creased. “What?”
“‘The only thing we have to fear is fear itself’.”
“Great. So we’ve got a history buff on our hands,” Dean said, stepping back into the hall.
“To be fair, she was probably around during the actual speech,” you pointed out.
“Whatever. Let’s go. I’m starving.”
______________________________________________________________
The three of you made your way out of the house. As you stepped from the porch, a small brown rabbit hopped across the path. You jumped back, almost falling up the stairs.
“You okay?” Sam asked, his hands catching you, steadying you.
“Fine,” you said, watching the rabbit disappear under a nearby bush. Your heart was pounding, your arms lined with goosebumps. Strange. You’d always liked rabbits.
You headed for the Impala (hyper-aware of any rabbits that may be lurking nearby) and slipped into the backseat. Dean had just pulled away from the curb when Cas appeared in the backseat beside you, causing you to yelp.
“Jeez, Cas,” you said, tucking yourself into the corner of the seat. “A little warning next time.”
“I… apologize,” the angel said, studying you for a moment. “Did you find anything?”
“Yeah, the witch was there,” Dean said. “But she disappeared when Y/N found her.”
Cas turned his attention back to you. “What happened?”
“I… I don’t know. She just sort of disappeared.”
At that moment, Dean slammed on the brakes. “Hey, watch it, asshole!” he yelled at the driver who had nearly plowed into the Impala, running through the stop sign.
You reached out and grabbed Cas’ hand, a small whimper of fear escaping your throat. Cas could feel your blood pounding, your heart rate having skyrocketed. Your palm felt clammy in his.
“You’re okay,” he whispered, squeezing your hand lightly. “Nothing’s going to hurt you.”
You turned to Cas, your eyes wide. He could see your chest rising and falling rapidly. He’d never seen you so scared, especially not by something so minor. Whatever was happening to you, Cas vowed to keep you safe.
______________________________________________________________
Cas noticed that practically everything made you jump: the ringing of the bell above the diner’s door, the clatter of a dish hitting the floor in the kitchen, the rattle of dead leaves as the Fall breeze blew through them. You clutched his hand as you followed the Winchesters into the bunker, slowing your step until Dean turned on the light.
Cas managed to lead you down the hall without the brothers noticing. He led you to your room, clicking on the light before leading you over the threshold.
“Y/N, are you all right?”
“Mmhmm,” you said, eyes darting to the dark corners of the room, clutching Cas’ hand tightly.
“Listen, I know you’ve had a long day. Why don’t you change into your pajamas and spend the rest of the evening in bed?”
“I… will you stay with me? Please?”
“I will return. I just need to check something with Dean and Sam.”
You nodded; Cas could tell you were trying to put on a brave face.
“I’ll be right back,” he promised, stepping for the door.
“Wait,” you said, your voice sounding small. You handed your gun to him, as well as the knife from your bedside table.
“What’s this for?”
“I… I don’t want anything to happen. I don’t want to get hurt.”
Cas nodded, taking the weapons. “I’ll be back in a moment.”
He stepped from the room, heading for the library. Sam and Dean glanced up at his entrance.
“Where’s Y/N?” Dean asked.
“She’s… not feeling well.”
“She all right?” Sam asked. “She’s not getting sick, is she?”
“She should be fine… in a little while.”
Dean glanced at Cas’ hands. “Why do you have Y/N’s gun? And a knife?”
“She gave them to me.”
“Why?”
“She was afraid of an accident occurring.”
“What? That’s ridiculous.”
“What if it’s not?” Sam asked, his face drawn with thought.
“What are you talking about?”
“Don’t you remember what she said the witch said right before she disappeared?”
“Some… historical crap.”
“‘The only thing we have to fear is fear itself’.”
Dean’s brow creased. “So, what, you think the witch put some sort of spell on her? Made her afraid of… everything?”
Sam shrugged. “It’s possible.”
Dean ran a hand through his hair. “Well… that sucks. How do we reverse it?”
“No idea,” Sam said, opening his laptop and striking a few keys.
“Great,” Dean said, sitting across from his brother, taking a pull from his beer. He turned his eyes to Cas. “Can you keep an eye on her? Make sure she doesn’t freak out too much?”
“I will do my best.”
______________________________________________________________
“Oh, thank god!”
Cas grunted slightly as you ran into him, wrapping your arms tightly around his waist. “What’s wrong?” he asked, gently running his hand through your hair.
“I… there was a weird noise and then there was a shadow figure in the closet…”
Cas carefully stepped to the closet. You repositioned yourself behind him, using him as a shield, clenching your fists in his jacket. He slowly opened the door and flipped on the light. He moved aside all the hangers, finding no strange creatures hiding inside.
“There’s nothing here, Y/N.”
You peered around Cas, staring at the closet. “Hm.”
Cas shut the light off and closed the door before turning around to face you. He gently took your hands in his and led you over to the bed. He let you get situated before sitting next to you; the moment he sat down, your arms wrapped around him, holding on for dear life.
“It’s all right, Y/N,” he whispered, reaching over for the remote. He clicked the TV on, loading Netflix. “Nothing will hurt you. I promise.”
He could feel your heart pounding. He looped an arm around your shoulders, his fingers slowly combing through your hair. “You have nothing to fear, so long as I am with you.”
