#but some people will stan and forget problematic characters

What’s wild to me is when the purple and black hearts stans start lying about how a lot of beaujes shippers reacted to beauyahsa. Like they were out here calling beauyasha a ship for straight people and accusing the cast of queerbaiting because one wlw ship was canon instead of another one. I’ll never forget when someone said that Beau was a problematic predatory lesbian stereotype because they were mad she never confessed her feelings for Jester.
It goes to what you’ve been saying that very little has happened between Laudna and Imogen romantically so a lot of people have resorted to yelling about other things and accusing people who don’t like the ship of being homophobic. As a lesbian I wanted to love the ship so much but it doesn’t interest in and it’s so disheartening to be accused of hating wlw relationship or be told that I’m not watching the show right.
Hey anon,
I feel like I keep using the word "ahistoric" but god does it fit like...the ugly truth is that, at least on Tumblr, the main detractors from Beauyasha by the end of the campaign were people who shipped Beau and Jester; again, there will always be some misogyny and homophobia and bigotry in the fandom so long as these exist in the real world, but like, it was not homophobes saying Beauyasha was For The Straights.
(also...how is it problematic and predatory to...not confess your feelings for someone if you have no intention of acting on them because you and they are both in other relationships. This is besides the point of this ask but I swear the people who were mad at the C2 canon ships were on a new level of dipshittery; they kept asking for Closure (TM) and it's like most normal people, if they have an unrequited crush and then enter into a relationship with someone else, never tell the person about the crush because it's awkward and there's literally nothing to do or say about it. Like, the typical path forward for closure is like, telling your therapist or journalling or making an angsty playlist, not Confessing Your Love while you're both in relationships with someone else.)
I do think this history is relevant though because in many ways...the behavior of people who shipped Beau and Jester paved the way for the open dislike of Imogen and Laudna we see today. Why should I listen to someone who calls me homophobic for not liking a lesbian ship when they called me homophobic and straight last campaign for liking a lesbian ship they didn't like? Why would I ever listen to a random person who does not know me through anything but our shared interest in the same Actual Play show's assessment of my feminist credentials based on the fact that I don't want the same two characters to kiss as they do? Why would I ever bother to try hit their ever moving target instead of saying "ok" and moving on?
Which isn't to say it doesn't suck. I've gotten questions about how to not be bothered or disheartened before from others, and I don't have great advice because I happen to just, through a combination of personal experience and natural tendencies not be much of a people pleaser, but like...I mean, you're the only person who can know if you're a lesbian. That's really it. Not particularly caring about a specific F/F ship very obviously does not disqualify you from being a lesbian, which we know because otherwise we could just as easily say that not shipping Beauyasha would disqualify you from being a lesbian. They can say whatever they want; it's annoying, but it's bullshit and I think even they know it. (the alternative of course is that they're very, very stupid and do not know it.)

On Jiang Cheng and whether what he did was “redeemable” (why is this even an argument?)
DISCLAIMER: While I am cross-posting this from Twitter from when I wrote this in the wake of a discourse there a while back, small note that I DO NOT APPRECIATE MY META TO BE USED FOR FANWARS be it for speculations re “who is better between jc and wwx” OR “jc stan vs wwx stan”. Let’s just have fun conversations like mature people please.
Regarding whether Jiang Cheng is sensitive and an asshole sometimes, yes he is (and I love him for it) but is he only just that and not a compelling character of his own with layers? I’d argue there by saying as “questionable” as a lot of his decisions feel, he actually never went the wrong way or took wrong decisions despite everything. Controversial take? Hardly if you judge it according to the setting and the circumstances.
Was his part in the siege "problematic" and difficult to reconcile with? Yes. Is it difficult to love him for his grudge against the Wens? Maybe so. Did he hurt Wei Wuxian, whether willingly or impulsively? Also yes. Did he hate Wei Wuxian? It's more complex than hate but let's say he did. But did he also love and mourn Wei Wuxian in his own way? Absolutely. There have been several meta in the past on how Jiang Cheng’s hatred of Wei Wuxian is directly proportional to the amount of love he holds for the man so I shall not go into more detail on just how much Jiang Cheng actually loves Wei Wuxian. You guys should get it already.
Not taking into account the "morality" arguments of his actions because that's a discussion for another day, I'd say he had his reasons for what he did. Don’t know why people forget the fact that Yunmeng Jiang was the only sect to have its root clan completely annihilated AND their sect entirely plundered in the Wen attack. He LITERALLY BUILT THE ENTIRE SECT FROM SCRATCH and I'm not talking about the structure alone. I'm talking people, reputation, fighting power, making cultivators out of non cultivators, financial alternatives blah blah. A reminder that Jiang Cheng also mostly did it all alone.
Jiang Yanli while a Jiang is ultimately a woman (always read a book according to the period it's set in). She will be married into the Jin household and will be called “Jin Furen”. Wei Wuxian during the bulk of that time was stuck in the Mounds & unable to assist in the rebuilding. Jiang Cheng had to rebuild both recruits, gather enough funds to rebuild the sect structure or merely only for enough food for all perhaps, teach them the Jiang martial arts because he is literally the last Jiang standing AND somehow convince the rest of the great sects to allow Yunmeng Jiang into the war. If we look at it from the war perspective, the Sunshot Alliance also had no reason to necessarily trust a recently destroyed sect so easily when Yunmeng Jiang literally had nothing to offer apart from one battered Jiang heir who was determined to fight, one Jiang daughter who wasn't a cultivator and a missing head disciple (more on war politics some other day because I personally love the Sunshot Era and want to discuss it in detail).
And you'd think Yunmeng Jiang would miraculously suddenly become rich overnight right after the war? No. The Sunshot campaign continued for an approx. 3 years. That means much more resources and manpower used up. More deaths. Which also means the death of even some of the new Jiang recruits because Yunmeng Jiang was the weakest during that time, the only sect with an uneven motley of new recruits - possibly more non cultivators than cultivators because how many people even take up cultivation. Jiang Cheng would have to continue rebuilding and garnering support even after the war for the sake of his people. And Yunmeng Jiang wouldn't be credited majorly for the Campaign either - the main credit went to Gusu Lan, Qinghe Nie and Lanling Jin who ALSO formed an alliance along with the Venerated Triad (there is also geography factors in play here). Yunmeng Jiang was literally left alone and fighting to even exist.
We can have morality based arguments regarding Jiang Cheng’s participation in the Siege, but politically it was the best decision he could have taken because it was either that or waiting for a second annihilation of Yunmeng Jiang. Had he decided to stand by Wei Wuxian and Wei Wuxian chosen not to defect? They would've branded Yunmeng Jiang the next "Wens" and in want for power and crushed them. Jiang Cheng had to make a choice between saving one person and saving the people he looks over and he made his choice as a GOOD leader. And Wei Wuxian understood that, which is why HE also decided to defect on his own accord.
Jiang Cheng spoke, “Wei Wuxian, have you still not realized what the situation at hand is like? Do you really need me to say it out loud? If you insist on protecting them, then I won’t be able to protect you.”
Wei Wuxian, “There’s no need to protect me. Just let go.”
Jiang Cheng’s face twisted.
Wei Wuxian, “Just let go. Tell the world that I defected. From now on, no matter what Wei Wuxian does, it’d have nothing to do with the Yunmeng Jiang Sect.” [GDC Chapter 73: Recklessness. Cr. ExR]
There is also a bit in the lower paragraphs in the same chapter where Jiang Cheng demands if Wei Wuxian has a savior complex and Wei Wuxian doesn’t answer instead insists on cutting ties so whatever he does wouldn’t affect the Sect which is followed by an inner monologue where Wei Wuxian can’t even guarantee what he himself do. (Very cool foreshadow). TL;DR: Wei Wuxian defected by his own choice because he wanted to PROTECT THE SECT TOO.
Wei Wuxian stayed quiet. A while later, he answered, “So that’s why we should cut ties right now, in case anything I do affects the Yunmeng Jiang Sect in the future.”
Or else, he really couldn’t make any guarantees on what he’d do in the future.
DESPITE it all, let me remind you, Jiang Cheng did in fact try to defend at least the Wen siblings.  He didn't have to because that could actually put Yunmeng Jiang into an awkward position yet he did. Jiang Cheng wasn't privy to the core exchange so he didn't know what they'd done and hence had no reason to be grateful to them. The most he knew was, the siblings helped shelter them and got back his parents’ bodies and he does show gratitude for it or at least tries to explain why they owe them a debt but he is cut off before he could even complete saying how and why they owe gratitude. Quoting once again:
“.....I apologize to all of the Sect Leaders. Everyone, I’m afraid you don’t know that the Wen cultivator whom Wei Wuxian wanted to save was called Wen Ning. We owe him and his sister Wen Qing gratitude for what happened during the Sunshot Campaign.”
Nie Mingjue, “You owe them gratitude? Isn’t the Qishan Wen Sect the ones who caused the Yunmeng Jiang Sect’s annihilation?” [GDC Chapter 73]
(Small addendum, but I personally believe Jiang Cheng doesn’t have to be grateful for the golden core sacrifice either but that’s a discussion I shall not touch here because MDZS fandom is not capable of nuance regarding this subject at all, and I’d just spark either Wei Wuxian hate or Jiang Cheng hate, neither of which is my goal and both of which I think is absolutely stupid. On to the rest with no more tangents.)
As for the "Jiang Cheng went around killing demonic cultivators", literally the only source is from an INN KEEPER. And MDZS at its core is a novel that talks about how the truth is so often distorted to fit the popular narrative. Did he go around killing demonic cultivators? Who the fuck knows, we headcanon as we like. But the fact remains that IT WAS NEVER CONFIRMED. I have also seen people use in argument the lines from the first Jiang Cheng appearance (I forgot the scene exactly) where there is a small POV shift and Jiang Cheng is thinking to himself “It’s alright, I have done things like this before.” which, okay, valid point and argument but it can also easily allude to atrocities done during the war. I personally find it interesting that Jiang Cheng has to personally soothe and convince himself before capturing a demonic cultivator like this at all. But anyway, my first argument still stands - it was never CONFIRMED. (I’d love to meta, albeit GOOD FAITH, on this subject just saying.)
Whether Jiang Cheng hunted demonic cultivators to find Wei Wuxian in order to "kill" him again, I don't think that's it. Or at least, I don’t think it’s so simple. Grief is multifaceted and different people deal with it differently. Lan Wangji indulged in self-destructive behavior (Branding himself with the Wen brand) in grief before gradually beginning to accept. Jiang Cheng did it in other destructive ways like being in denial of Wei Wuxian's death and masking his grief with hatred when in fact he was mourning too. The reason why he gives Chenqing in the end and the fact that Chenqing is sleek and new and obviously well cared for is symbolic to Jiang Cheng's underlying care and grief that continued to stay despite how much he tried to pretend he absolutely despises Wei Wuxian. And his "giving away" of Chenqing is symbolic to his final acceptance of things as they are. If Jiang Cheng truly hated Wei Wuxian, he would've done everything to expose his identity to the world and get him killed or killed him himself in that inn instead of questioning him about things and telling him to apologize to his parents. Quoting because I think this bit is actually pretty significant:
Jiang Cheng interrupted, “It’s just what? You can’t say it? Don’t worry, you can go back to Lotus Pier and say your excuses while kneeling in front of my parents’ graves.” [GDC Chapter 24. Cr. ExR]
THIS BITCH, FOR ALL HIS DRAMATIC INSISTENCE ON HATING WEI WUXIAN, TELLS THE VERY MAN HE CLAIMS HE HATES THAT HE WANTS EXPLANATIONS FOR WHATEVER HE DID IN THE PAST AND THAT WEI WUXIAN CAN “GO BACK TO LOTUS PIER AND KNEEL” AT THE ANCESTRAL HALL. If that isn’t just the Jiang Cheng way of saying “this is me giving you a chance. Just tell me why you did all that you did” then I don’t fucking know what else is. (He is so pathetic and has such an ironically huge heart I love him)
Jiang Cheng is bad at feelings. He’s bad at being honest with his feelings. I made another meta long back on how Jiang Cheng always addresses the hurt of people close to him but never his own hurt because he is second to even his own self but that’s for another day. It even actually took him until nearly the last chapter (102) to admit verbally he was hurt, so goddamn HURT that Wei Wuxian left him so the above quote IS in fact Jiang Cheng genuinely wanting explanations from Wei Wuxian. Quoting once again on the chapter 102 bit:
He choked, “....You said I’d be the sect leader and you’d be my subordinate, you said you’d help me your whole life, you said you’d never betray the Yunmeng Jiang Sect....you said so yourself.” [GDC Chapter 102. Cr. ExR]
A small tangent because I just think it’s interesting again but in the reveal scene in Jin Guangyao’s basement/secret room, Jiang Cheng was actually given an opportunity to directly expose Wei Wuxian yet again where he is directly addressed but he just teethered and debated with himself because “yes I already knew Wei Wuxian is back” and “I can’t agree with Jin Guangyao or else I will expose my idiot shixiong” AND “I can’t oppose him either because MY IDIOT SHIXIONG JUST PULLED OUT SUIBIAN IN FRONT OF EVERYONE”. See, that particular bit could have just easily stuck to “Jiang Cheng decided to stay silent and hence agree without agreeing outright” or any other vaguer wordings for that matter but the narrative makes it a point to show that he is in fact fucking conflicted because he still wants to protect Wei Wuxian. Quoting:
Jin Ling suddenly shouted, “Wait! Uncle, wait! D-didn’t my uncle hit him with Zidian back at Dafan Mountain? His soul didn’t get whipped out, so it must mean that he didn’t possess this body, right? And so he can’t be Wei Wuxian right?!”
Jiang Cheng’s face looked very dark. He didn’t speak as his hand pressed onto the hilt of his sword, as though he was thinking about what to do. [GDC Chapter 50. Cr. ExR]
This is turning out too long, pardon the tangents. But regarding Shuangjie’s bond, breaking and tale in its entirety, it's way more complex than deciding who is the true villain between them or who is more redeemable between them. Heck their temple talk ENDS at the fact that who should truly apologize when they both hurt & got hurt.
Suddenly, he said, “I’m sorry.”
Wei Wuxian hesitated, “....You don’t need to say sorry.”
At this point, it was impossible to figure out who should apologize to whom. [GDC Chapter 103. Cr. ExR]
To end on whether Jiang Cheng was right or is he “irredeemable” for all he did; Jiang Cheng is as much a victim as is Wei Wuxian. He was hurt as much as Wei Wuxian was. He has as much valid reasons for his actions as Wei Wuxian does. Whether or not Jiang Cheng is a good or bad guy depends on perspectives and your tastes. But I can say with confidence that he isn't irredeemable, nor is he unreasonable. And more importantly he is very deeply human in a very raw and poignant way. And humans are flawed and that's the beauty of them. Besides what is the concept of “redemption” anyway if not an extremely personal one?
Jiang Cheng was right to grieve. He was right to choose to save Yunmeng Jiang. He was right to be hurt and not pretend otherwise. Jiang Cheng is complicated and morally grey but ultimately very much relatable and understandable as a character but if only you choose to look at him without the bias that comes with the narrative perspective.
End meta/rant, OMFG THIS WAS TOO LONG.

oh my god tumblr is not a functional website and it ate my next two drafted asks so prepare to get tagged in textposts but @brambleberrycottage sent The Mentalist and/or Person of Interest for the fandom ask game:
✨ send me a fandom and i'll answer with the following!
Tumblr media
for person of interest:
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
↣ very tough choice but i am gonna have to go with shaw for this one. my second choice probably would be reese tho- but i have to go by what ao3 tags i filter the most 😭
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
↣ BEAR THE DOG.....OBVIOUSLY....... akjdhdjfhf but for real it is probably finch. finch rly is So Shaped to me. i do not want anything bad to happen to him Ever. Protect At All Costs
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
↣ FUSCO. FUSCO IS SUCH AN UNDERRATED FAVE. theres like 10 fics out there about my man fusco and ive reread all of them 100 times aldjfkfhjfgjgj this man just shows up to work every day and tries his best and he gets dragged into some of the craziest world-altering conspiracies known to man and for what ??? he just wants to come home to his son every day. but he cares about people and his friends and the world his son grows up IN, and thats why he sticks by the others no matter what he gets put thru. also he is just very funny and relatable at times akdhdjfhf
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
↣ harper!!! very much obscure but she has a cute lil arc that feels Meaningful and has such a fun energy and she has such an ~ outcome ~ (i will not spoil in case anyone who has not seen this show is thinking of seeing it) and tbh i want to learn everything about her
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
↣ elias. he is very problematic. very controversial. horrible villain crimelord etc etc. but isnt it interesting how this show plays with morality? how much nuance there is? how you slowly learn that finch is right- that there are no heroes or villains, just people doing the best they can??? elias is a terrible person that you would never want to meet in real life but hes MY terrible person you would never want to meet in real life.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
↣ this is reese hands down. sorry not sorry to the traumatized man but i do kind of enjoy you getting more traumatized
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
↣ i guess john greer ???? im not sorry, forget everything i said about nuance hes a villain akdhfdjkfhfj he is the worst im joking but if i have to pick anyone its him
Tumblr media
for the mentalist:
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
↣ its jane. of course its jane. what we have learned about me is i am always stanning traumatized over confident (often middle aged middle aged) men in problematic career paths with emotional issues 😭 its embarrassing how consistent i rly am tbh lmao. but HES SO INTERESTING. HES SO TRAGIC. HES SO MULTIFACETED. i could probably write 600 dissertations about him
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
↣ lisbon is my girl i love her so much i will not take any notes on this she is MY five foot nothing cop with anger management issues and i WOULD die for her. shes probably my height irl but she is !!!! small. i love her
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
↣ cho is so underrated !!!!! he is there from start to finish and he gets his own arcs and his own story and he's level-headed and in charge but he's not emotionless and he's not perfect, he's very good at what he does but he makes mistakes too and he's mature enough to own up to them. his realism and commitment is bracing and reliable and brings such a steady element to the show. couldnt do it without him!!
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
↣ she's really not even on screen for more than like 0.1 seconds of flashback but !!! ANGELA JANE. i know we don't get to know much in the way of cannonical characterization but i have read a lot of fics about her. i think the most influential has to be boy wonder, which is a wonderful how-angela-and-young-patrick-met fic unfortunately trapped on the horrible formatting of fanfiction dot net, but every time i think of angela i think of this fic and it very deeply informed my love for her character.
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
↣ probably laroche. deeply weird man but he just wanted to go home to his little figurines and his fluffy dog. what more could he ask for. very creepy vibe but he did his job well and he came around in the end. i would love to know what sort of life made this man happen. i think about the iconic theater episode with him every day.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
↣ aaaaa once again its jane im so sorry sir i just find your trauma entertaining !!!!!
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
↣ probably bertram because i just think he was way scarier than the sherriff sorry sljfkfjfjg

The Boys, choose violence 10, 22, 24 if you please. :D
From the 🔥Choose Violence Ask Game🔥
Thank you, @kosmochlor, for the Ask! Ahh, and I see we’re going straight for the jugular!! 🔪(⊙v⊙✿) These are just a few personal honest opinions written at 1:40AM. What I think does not apply to everyone. ♥️
10. worst part of fanon
Keyboard warriors. The morality police clutching their pearls. You know who I’m referring to; we always have them in every fandom. The ones who police who/ what you like and are obnoxiously loud about it and about how the characters or ships you find interesting are problematic and, lookie here, my [insert character they’d fixated on] never did anything wrong compared to your rancid skrunkly blorbo and I wish more fans liked my favorite character than [insert popularly liked character]. On the converse of that, I’m on two fences when it comes to Homelander stans. Thankfully most people are rational and like him because he’s an interesting villain (and, let’s be real, it’s powered by a side of fan thirst for the actor who plays him; it’s the typical parasocial relationship that fans develop with the celebs who play our favs/ or it’s just plain interest in the fictional character itself or the fun thought of that fictional fav being railed or doing the railing)—but I do have to raise an eyebrow when he is being stanned for all the wrong reasons (coughfascistallegorycough coughMAGAallegorycough coughSigmamalecough).
It’s a very interesting outlook to have as someone who isn’t as into Homelander as other people but still goes out of my way to read and write stories of him being shipped with his enemy Billy Butcher (listen, I’m your average law-abiding 28 y/o woman who works M-Sat 9AM-5:30PM and sometimes even Sundays and even overtime; sometimes on my limited free time I just wanna indulge and imagine about what it’d take to save the metaphorical world in this fictional universe—aka by having the two toxic old men f*ck each other and they can be two co-dependent psychos in love terrorizing the world together as a shameless power couple in a perpetual Ouroboros cycle of love and hate and self-punishment; obviously I do not condone this kind of relationship irl but within the safety of my imagination, we writers be playing god. It’s fairly obvious both characters are fated to have a bad ending in the show, especially if they follow in the footsteps of comic canon for a bittersweet ending, so let me have fun on my very limited free time writing my alternative Butchlander takes about these manipulative assh0les obsessing over each other and the fate of the world depending on how successful they are at gaslighting each other into playing a permanent happy couple).
22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
Homelander is canonically bi in the comics. No, I’m serious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Spoiler alert: for those without context, in the comics, Soldier Boy was not Homelander’s father. In the comics, male Stormfront was one of the Supes whose DNA was reused by Vought to create new and stronger versions of the source material, so his DNA resulted in baby!HL’s creation no, comic HL did not f*ck male Stormfront; in a way, HL is kinda a partial clone of comic!SF. Whereas in the show, Soldier Boy was changed to be a super straight (?) alpha male granny f*cker who was later revealed in the season to be the sperm donor for Homelander. And Stormfront, as we know, was genderswapped in the show and changed to be Homelander’s girlfriend in S3. …There’s no confirmed Sweet Home Alabama vibes yet as of 2023 but there is understandably fan speculation for a reason.)
I believe the best way to put it: Homelander is generally attracted to women, but in later issues he reveals that he has a secret liking to men. Because he’s The Homelander; he can do whatever the f*ck he wants.
And let’s not forget this beautiful iconic scene the TV adaptation gifted to us:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now some personal opinion time: I also like the idea of him being a narcissist so he only truly loves himself. And others can come close (especially if he sees aspects of himself in them) but his One True Love will always be himself. It’s the classic Narcissus looking at his mirror reflection allegory—but now you mix it in with some complicated cocktail of a God complex, inferiority complex, imposter syndrome, self-hatred, and sociopathy or psychopathy and a hidden desire of wanting to fit in with the banal societal human norms of being accepted but always feeling left out on the other side of the glass wall looking in. Now you tie it in with him never finding anyone who’s “genuinely loved him” (by his own criteria) and has not regarded him as a monster to be feared. He’s desperate for that human connection, for that elusive “perfect companion” who will understand him and cater to him and put his needs above their own—and to him, finding that proves he’s not a freak of nature. He’s not a monster. He’s not a failed product. He’s not a pathetic excuse of a man that even Soldier Boy didn’t even want as a son. Vogelbaum—and everyone else just doesn’t understand. People love him, right? Vought and Madelyn have indoctrinated him into believing he’s the people’s hero—and how they adore and worship him and want to be him or want to f*ck him. How can he, The Homelander, a superior being with his perfect genetics who’s better, stronger, smarter and more attractive than anyone else (I hope you can tell I’m being heavily sarcastic here), go out on a limb and fail at finding this one intangible thing that ordinary mudpeople or his inferiors can find but he somehow can’t?
24. topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
It’s almost always political discourse particularly from extremely delusional right-wingers people who have terrible media literacy of what they’re watching versus what might be clear-cut to the rest of us—and discourse of whether or not The Boys (TV) is an objectively good show. All of these tend to go hand-in-hand together. I think what those people fail to realize is: the script is written by Eric Kripke, the showrunner behind the first five seasons of Supernatural—and then you have Stephen Fleet, lead VFX supervisor and show producer, who came out at the age of 43 (🏳️‍🌈). They’re adapting it from an edgy, dark, intentionally offensive-just-for-shock-value comic series written by Garth Ennis, the person behind Preacher and even a bit of the Punisher. The eight-volume comic series, which ran from 2006-2012, is full of racist, sexist, misogynistic, and homophobic elements (to be fair, GE wrote this as an intentionally darker satirical take on the superhero culture—and edgy shock factor is a writer’s strategy to make your work stand out). It was meant as a “dark, satirical commentary about the fictional superheroes—and, to an extent, the real life celebrities—we idolize, and how easily people with such power can abuse their responsibility” (source).
With what the TV showrunners had to work with, with the actual source material being a slog kinda to go through (the comics does have its share of good moments admittedly), as a whole I think it’s pretty impressive they’re able to update things to make modern social commentary which are relevant to us today (now, they can be admittedly a bit on the nose about it; one thing that stuck with me till now is how a writer friend I was watching the show with remarked how they’d thought BnHA did the superhero genre commentary much better) and somehow they were able to make a far superior TV adaptation just by paring down and changing a few things from the comics for the better so far (*knocks on wood 3x*). I will however always side-eye anyone who insist the comics is superior than the TV adaptation and loudly proclaim they won’t watch the show because “look how they massacred [insert comic character]” (now, to be fair, normally I would agree with this take but we’ve established The Boys (TV) is a special case; I would also understand if the comics had been the person’s first exposure and, hence, had become their fixation—but considering its intentionally offensive contents I am quietly side-eyeing them from the sidelines and keeping my mouth shut).

It's the underdog/victim complex. They think they're being oppressed/harassed/attacked by everyone else for liking their fave when no one really cares. Plus purity culture sorta screwed the fandom perceptions where now you apparently can't like a character or be a fan of them if they do bad/problematic things. This isn't just a FE thing either, there was an article that basically said that people can enjoy villains for being villains and requested everyone to not woobify or justify their actions. Guess what happened? People got salty over it and started attacking the article. And yeah it's not just a bunch of teenagers sadly, there are people in their 30s doing this kind of nonsense behavior and it's really sad and pathetic. And fwiw I'm not implying nor intending that people 30 or above can't be in fandoms or anything like that, it's just..you expect them to know or be better than to act like they're half their age with this nonsense.
Yeah, that's so wild to me when they do exactly that - attack others for their faves (especially Dimitri). Like yeah, I hate their fave but I don't go out of my way to attack them for liking her.
Purity culture really, REALLY pisses me off. Not only do people who like EdeIgard erase her wrongdoings, but they only like the version of her they created and not her canon self (i.e. the self that did wrong, but they can't handle the concept of that and their waifu has to be perfect and have her hands clean). Following that, they get aggressive toward Dimitri and his fans for liking him because uwu he did so many bad things. Like, yes, we are aware of that and he actively addresses that fact on a regular basis. He doesn't hide behind "uwu I did it for Fodlan", he doesn't make excuses, and his fans accept his faults for what they are. For some reason the stans seem to think we're just like them and that we erase any faults of our fave and pretend he's a perfect, clean handed individual.
I remember hearing or seeing once in this old Tumblr RP group that they banned Miklan from even being selected as a written character. Like bruh, if you're gonna write roleplays, don't you... want conflict? When I write I find it boring when there's no conflict whatsoever. Even in my dmcl writing, there's still a sort of internal conflict, like Dimitri having doubts about himself and thinking he's not worth being with someone he loves. No matter what I write, I prefer to have some sort of conflict because it helps to strengthen the positive result.
It's funny, too, because these are always the same people who like Hopes Claude more but yet don't think doing anything wrong is okay. They defend his actions instead like with their waifu because it's okay to invade a country and murder its people!
Reminds me of the stan that showed up in my inbox once trying to defend Claude, saying "what innocents did Claude even kill, he only killed soldiers" as if to say soldiers automatically lose all their innocence and rights as human beings for signing up to defend their country. That anon should probably stop and think about what they said and how that applies to real life, because they basically told me my sister deserves to die because she used to serve in the military. Oh no, how dare she be a soldier! She's no longer innocent and it's okay if she dies! Forget the fact that she has three children at home who are very young and need their mother! Forget that her parents and sisters are still alive and would grieve for her! She's a soldier, so it's fine if she dies!
That anon needs a real good look in the mirror and a smack in the face by reality. These people say a whole lot of shit to defend their fictional pixelated waifu without considering how that reflects on them in real life and the fact that what they say does have a reflection on their real life values. Anyone who tells me it would've been okay if my sister died simply because she was in the military is trash and I wish on them what they would wish on her.
I heard about that article! It's pathetic. There is literally nothing wrong with enjoying media and concepts. I have a section I decided to put at the end of this ask explaining how I feel about particular antagonists (Ashnard, Zelgius, Sephiran and Miklan), but since it's a biiiit off course here I wanted to avoid it splitting up my more direct reply to this ask.
Yeah, I know it's not only teenagers and that's also pathetic. While I wouldn't say I just forgive teenagers for being like that (they're old enough and there's no excuse imo, as I mentioned before), it's a lot more understandable that they might be like that and just eventually grow out of it. The fact there are people my age or older acting like angry babies who had their binky taken away is honestly so ridiculous that the term "pathetic" is not even strong enough to explain how ridiculous it is. They act like they're a little kid who had their favorite sticker stolen by some random kid in their class. These are people who should be looking for or having a job, being at least somewhat damn mature online and being a reasonable, mature person.
I was hoping "karens" would die out with the older generations (let's face it, a good chunk of today's karens are bored, angry old/older people with nothing to do and are just miserable people), but evidently we're never getting rid of that lot! It's okay to invade a country and murder its people, just like it's okay to harass and bully people off of social media, didn't you know?! 🙄🙄🙄 Really, how did some of these people get like this? And no, I'm not asking for their uwu backstories to redeem them LOL.
Some of these people are so insufferable that it's disgusting.
Regarding the villain discussion:
It's like I always say and you're about to hear it again: I love Ashnard as a villain because he's a villain, and he's a villain who fully embraces his actions and behavior. He doesn't think he's morally just. He's fighting for the world he believes in. He believes the strong should be on top and should rule the weak. However, he's extremely fair about that viewpoint and if he's defeated by someone because they were stronger than him, that is fair to him and he accepts his defeat. Since he believes the strong should be on top, he believes he should be on top... until someone comes along who can slay him, in which he believes they do deserve to be on top. If he's bested, he no longer deserves to be on top. He's a fantastic villain who never makes excuses and doesn't go back on what he says he believes. There's no "the strong should be on top but only as long as I'm the strongest and will be ruling". Plain and simple, the strongest should be on top whether it's him or not, and he's not, I guess you could say, "fake" about it.
Then you have Hopes Miklan who turns out to be a better person than people gave him credit for. He's someone I always had headcanons about based on Dimitri's take on him being disowned. I felt that he could've been a better person if pointed in the right direction and being told and shown that he was capable as a person even without a crest and that having a crest doesn't dictate whether he's useful or not. Dimitri put him in charge of a massively important, and arguably the most important, area of defense in the entire country. He proved he believed that Miklan had the strength to handle that and proved that he believed if Miklan had a better life and situation in front of him that he wouldn't resort to banditry. The thing is, he was right. Miklan not only started becoming a better person, but he even gets a line where he basically says he liked helping the people in a place that got destroyed in the war. He liked helping them rebuild.
Both of those are fantastic stories and characters. One of them had a redemption arc while nobody ever let any bullshit slide. He wasn't allowed to slip up or get away with any tiny "mistakes". It was literally do or die, but being forced into that situation did genuinely make him a better person. Even if he had to be forced to help them, it's not like he didn't come out on the other side and be better for it. Being forced to do those things didn't mean it just stayed that way and that he was hateful and angry that entire time.
Then one of them is just... a villain. A perfectly written villain who lived and died as a villain. Nobody made excuses for him and he didn't make excuses for himself. There's a reason I don't like Zelgius, and it's not that I think his character itself is terribly written, but it's the forced redemption that he didn't earn that makes me not enjoy his final arc. In contrast, what does Sephiran get? No redemption allowed from Ike until he gets up and proves he's willing to redeem himself. Zelgius could've easily been a character made to earn his redemption, such as being a playable character and having supports to flesh out his new arc, or even just being a story only character who protects and saves the main characters (besides Just Micaiah tee em) and maybe even guides them safely to the Tower of Guidance (no pun intended). Instead he just gets to say he admired his teacher and had a sad backstory so suddenly... nobody is mad anymore. Certainly not Tibarn, who had like 50+ percent of his nation wiped out, that being any able bodied man who could fight besides the ones who were lucky enough to be with Tibarn's fighting force at the time all that happened. 🙄

Yesssssss please do a rwrb/nick sideblog. It can just sit there for when you want to use it. I love your opinions
I don't assume people's sexualities at all, but the way Nicholas Galitzine talks about Henry of RWRB (from interviews) is the exact same way Kit Connor used to talk about his character Nick Nelson from Heartstopper before he forcibly had to out himself online. He's said he enjoys playing characters that have an internal struggle though (which are most of his characters, including his queer ones) so... Just throwing some food for thought.
The funniest thing is that Nick plays Harry in a film of the Harry fan fic The Idea of You where the Harry character is 19 and falls in love with a 39 year old woman, who in the film is played by Anne Hathaway. All very het but it was filmed last year so should be out soon on Amazon.
https://www.looper.com/1266000/the-idea-of-you-everything-you-need-know/
Hi, fellow Nick stans!
It's good to know that if i were to make a sideblog i would have at least one follower! Noted. I think i'm going to hold off a bit for now (ask me again when bottoms starts streaming i need an outlet that is not this blog). He might still turn out to be problematic (i highly doubt it), so i'm just a casual fan for now (at least that's what i'm telling myself lol).
Thank you for the food for thought. I've thought this too. There are many small things here and there he's said and done, or how he reacts to things and so forth that made me go 'huh...'. At the same time he's talked openly about ex gf several times, but never about a bf. He might be bi or pan and/or it's a simple case of closeting for career purposes. He might still be straight, but the more i see and the more information comes forth the less likely i think it is. If he's actually straight i think he must be very secure in himself and his sexuality. The way he sees and talks about queer things, feminism and toxic masculinity is very mature and he's very informed on these topics. His respect for women, his respect for others boundaries and his refusal to keep to stereotypical gender roles is more than i've seen from any other celebrity. It's also very unusual to see in a straight man.
Anon about tioy. I know, check out my anne hathaway tag for my reaction to the news. I was so disappointed in her. I have very strong opinions on the het harry fan fics made into film. These films are enforcing his het womaniser image and helping to closet him. And it's so wrong when you know he's (most likely) forcibly closeted. He can't do anything about these movies, since it's based on fan fic and not him. And people are going to see Nick as playing Harry even if the character has another name. When i went to see barbie i got the trailer for the next aft*r movie. The urge to boo in that full theater was strong. It makes me so god damn angry at the world (also larry fics are objectivly so much better than het fics, why aren't we getting a movie based on that?).
As i've said before, i hope tioy comes out before george and mary so people quickly forget about tioy. I think some part of nicks fandom will treat tioy as they did purple hearts. I'm grateful for that. I hope when he gets more known he'll get offered better and less problematic roles, still as diverse, but less controversial and fandom splitting.

10. Would you be friends with your muse if they were real? 5. Least favourite thing about roleplaying? 20. How do you overcome writer’s block?
Munday Meme || Accepting !
Tumblr media
5. Least favourite thing about roleplaying? If we're talking about RPing in general, I guess that the thing I hate the most is the fact that it's hard to find RP partners who are willing to put in as much effort as you do in the interactions. I've found myself being the one who has to carry the plot forward, to bring up ideas, to reach out, etc. while the other person just sat there and watch me do it. I find that it's simply insane to see how many people forget that RPing is supposed to be a shared experience and that your writing partner isn't your fanfiction vending machine or whatever. You can see this extremely well on Tumblr because there are people who never send you stuff when you repost memes (and I'm not saying interaction memes, I'm talking about stuff like this one for the mun) and the likes, even if you have always tried to be a good mutual and sent them stuff whenever you had the chance. They act like all this is owed to them and never think that, maybe, it would be nice to return the interest, from time to time. This level of selfishness really makes me want to jump in their IMs and tell them that they are a selfish asshole. Because sending a meme? It literally takes 10 seconds. If we're talking about RPing on Tumblr specifically...there's a long list that things I hate or can't stand. I guess that, if I had to choose, it would be the fucking purity police attitude that has infected this hellsite, including the rpc. It irks me beyond measure to see people ostracized just because they had certain ideas about a character's portrayal or because they enjoy exploring through writing themes that are considered "problematic" because they are too dark or whatnot. And don't get me started on anon hate.
10. Would you be friends with your muse if they were real? I like to think that I could get along with some of them? Mabel and Morty for sure, and I think I could make friends with Summer and Adrien too. Maybe with some work Stan, especially because I'd let myself be roped into his cons, and Millie. Jinx would be very hit or miss. Everyone else it's a lot trickier. As much as I wish I could be their friends, I think that the rest of my muses wouldn't give enough of a damn about me, or maybe find me annoying or boring xD
20. How do you overcome writer’s block? Bold of you to assume that I can overcome it x'D Kidding aside, it depends. My ability to write is very intimately tied to my moods and levels of mental energy. There are times where I just need to switch to writing something else for a while and the inspiration comes back on its own easily enough. Other times I have to sit and make myself write. The first few paragraphs come out shitty and I get frustrated real easily, but after a while I manage to get back in the flow and that's how I get over it. It can take a lot of effort, but at the end of the day is usually worth it. And then there are the times when all I can do is waiting it out. They are the worst, and the most exasperating, but nothing can be done about it. It usually means that my mental health is doing real bad (whether I feel it or not), and it's the sign that I need a break from social medias / writing in general.

Do BK stans actually know what he physically looks like in the manga/anime? I can understand why BK fans would like certain aspects of his design, whether in school or hero form, or perhaps he’s appears as a confident tsundere. Whatever reasons why those fans like him physically, artist who draw him/BKDK actually make good art.
On the more problematic side, it’s a thing to be such a stan to like him but only see his physical appearance so few things that their headcanons change what he looks like. Yes, he’s a blond but he’s also on the slim side in terms of muscles compared to Izuku. They can’t just take one thing but ignore everything else physically. I bet some are fans of BK simply because they are so engrossed in the fanfic version instead of the canon version of him.
At least fans can point to the actual manga/anime to show and explain other what he looks like whenever instead of stans saying what he might be from fanfics
I think they definitely have an idealized version of Katsuki in their heads which makes him look more attractive than he is in canon, which tbf, is something people often do with characters in general. When I think of Katsuki, my mind immediately pictures a slightly more attractive version of him so when I look at canon Katsuki, I go “damn, he’s uglier than I remember”. Izuku‘a another character I picture in my mind where I forget that his eyes are bigger than I think they are.

Steven Moffat doesn't need anyone's help convincing people he's a misogynist, you people are just misogynistic and transphobic as hell.
Tumblr media
[ID: A Screenshot of a newsheadline that shows Steven Moffat, a white man sitting in front of a microphone, gesturing with one hand mid-sentence, with the headline, "Steven Moffat says that using preferred pronouns 'is basic courtesy. That's normal. It's not a big ask, is it? Just be nice.'".
Below the headline reads, "Inverse.com, Steven Moffat speaks out on JK Rowling's anti-trans stance: 'just be nice'".

I forget sometimes that most people in this site don't know/realise how incredibly trans the Moffat era is. There is a major arc based around a character's name that ends with the emphatic assertion that only name that matters is the one you choose yourself. There's a major character who changes gender and becomes a better, happier, and more realised person afterwards. Gender fluidity is made a major aspect of Time Lord culture. There is a Venn diagram overlap of trans girls and Capaldi-era stans, and it's for a good reason.

questions-within-questions said:
The TERFs absoloutly remember, they're having a field day in the notes getting progressives to say "Trans Inclusive Radical Mysogonist" unironically, as if that isn't the TERF word for anyone who supports trans rights.
Guh, Moffat repeatably wrote about women struggling with the difficult parts of their self identity and developing self love, and wrote the Doctor discovering his toxic masculine traits of pride and self centeredness and putting that aside to instead embrase kindness and consideration. Moffat has had a massive trans following as early as 2011, and he knew that because he met us at cons and had a lot of time for us.
That was part of the reason it was so important for TERFs to get everyone to pick apart every idiotic thing he said in interviews.
Guy had been campagining for the BBC to let the Doctor become a woman since the 90s. Guy does have some problematic views but supporting trans women is extremely par the course for him.
And here's my response to this utter fucking bullshit:
It might be in another reblog or anoher post, but people are literally claiming that people only think Steven Moffat is a misogynist because of a TERF misinformation campaign. I wish I was joking, but no, these people really are being that fucking heinous and misogynistic.
Heads up for everyone who hasn't ever been subjected to Steven Moffat's bigoted as fucking writing and is now thinking, "Oh no, is he the victim of a TERF misinformatin campaign?" The answer is a resounding fucking no. This is all fucking lies and wishful thinking.
Steven Moffat is not called a misogynist because TERFs are fucking terrified of the power he has, for fuck's sake, people. Steven Moffat is not the vicim of a fucking TERF misinformation campaign to make people think he's a misogynist to hide the fact that he's actually really supportive of trans people.
Steven Moffat does not need anyone's help convincing people he's a raging fucking misogynist, he does that all by himself literally any time he talks about or writes about women.
I literally do not even have words for how fucking absurd these statements are. They are straight up lies.
Steven Moffat has not fucking been "campagining for the BBC to let the Doctor become a woman since the 90s."
You are literally just lying to people right now. Steven Moffat wrote a parody episode of Doctor Who for charity where the whole point of the parody was to be as absurd and ridiculus and stupid as possible--
What was the most absurd and hilariously bad idea Steven Moffat could come up with for Doctor Who?
For the Doctor to regenerate into a woman, of course! Because that's the stupidest thing anyone has ever heard of!
And the entire fucking purpose of this parody episode is dedicated to showing how stupid and ridiculous a female Doctor would be. He jokes about the fucking sonic screwdriver being a vibrator now, among other absurd levels of misogyny and literal fucking transphobia.
But I guess you're just ignoring all the rampant fucking misogyny and transphobia and queerphobia baked into every piece of writing he's ever done, since it's convenient for you. Not to mention the fact that his misogyny very fucking frequently takes on the form of fucking pedophilia, but sure, sure, go ahead and pretend that everyone who's criticizing him for his decades long career of misogyny and other disgusting bigotry is all actually a smear campaign created by TERFs!
Go ahead and literally try to lie to everyone who has not had the misfortune of ever listening to this man talk about women!!!
Steven Moffat loathed the idea of a female actor playing the Doctor, but then, suddenly, once it was official and The Cool Thing To Be Cool With, then suddenly his stance switched to "well it's only fat guys who live in their parents basements who think the Doctor can't be a woman"
Stop fucking lying to people. Just because you are trans and you like Steven Moffat's writing does not give you the fucking right to literally lie to everyone and pretend that all criticism of Moffat comes from a TERF misinformation campaign.
I hope you people are fucking ashamed of yourselves. You are literally just being transphobic and misogynistic and racist as shit with this bullshit lie you are trying to tell everyone.
No, people, Steven Moffat is not criticized and hated for his bigotry on Tumblr because TERFs started a misinformation campaign about him. These people are literally just lying to you and they know it.
No, people, fucking hating Steven Moffat and calling out his misogyny is not a TERF fucking dogwhistle and has literally fucking nothing to do with TERFs.
Just beacuse you are trans and you like something that other people don't doesn't fucking mean their dislike of it is created by transmisogyny, holy fucking shit.
Steven Moffat saying to respect people's pronouns now that it's a fucking commonplace idea in our fucking society is the bare fucking minimum level of not being a fucking transphobe. Steven Moffat does not pass any other fucking bar on not being a transphobe, which you would know if you weren't fucking romanticizing literally every single misogynyistic and transphobic writing decision he has ever made.
Stop fucking lying to people and trying to tell people who are lucky enough not to have ever been subjected to this man's fucking hatred of women and other minorities that all hatred for him comes from TERFs, you are literally being so fucking transphobic and misogynistic it's not even fucking funny right now.
If you've never watched anything written by Steven Moffat, be grateful. If you're worried that any criticism you've seen of him is actually part of some huge misinformation campaign created by TERFs, don't worry, that is literally just literal fucking bullshit.
Steven Moffat is not a trans ally. Steven Moffat is not an ally for trans women. Steven Moffat is not an ally for any queer people or women.
Just because he is for once doing the fucking bare minimum does not mean he's a fucking ally or a good person and it does not mean you get to try and rewrite history to make your favorite misogynistic look like the victim of a smear campaign.
You are not allowed to fucking disrupt conversations about actual real fucking misogyny by saying it's actually just transphobic lies meant to make your favorite cis straight white guy misogynist look bad, holy fucking shit.
Please consider reblogging this even if you aren't in the Doctor Who fandom, I refuse to sit here and let these people poison this decades long fucking conversation about this man's disgusting levels of bigotry on all fronts so that they can pretend that Steven Moffat is actually and ally and is only called a bad person because of fucking TERFs lying to people.

aemond is a great character but his diehard stans are SO annoying. at least daemon/daemyra stans knew from the beginning that the characters they stanned were problematic and toxic. aemond fans refuse to accept that hey, maybe aemond DOES have flaws. yes, he is a victim but he is also not completely innocent. he has done terrible things. those two statements are not mutually exclusive and it’s ridiculous that some people are so against discussion or the slightest criticism of their blorbo.
all this aside, people also forget this is a fictional show, and a very morally ambiguous one at that. every character is fucked up in some way, so why are people defending aemond like their life depends on it? he’s not real bro, and he’s not going to fuck you, pipe down. he’s a fictional mass murderer from an inbred family and is completely off his rocker. there is 0 need to attack or hurt real people in the real world over him. i don’t blame you for not wanting to engage with them, it’s exhausting tbh.
Aemond is a good character but, I mean every character/ship is going to have diehard stans no matter what, right? But, it really is just so ridiculous that some will 1) Refuse to acknowledge certain opinions just because it diverges from their own, 2) Be unnecessarily rude about it, and to top it off - 3) Twist what I wrote and put words in my mouth to make my post about sth entirely different (to what it was actually about) just to push some ‘anti team’ whatever agenda.
If people want to defend their faves then go ahead and do that but, maybe do it on a post that’s actually outright attacking them.
I’ve also said sth similar to what you wrote about Aemond in a previous ask that questioned if I even liked him - you can like a character and still acknowledge that said character has done bad things.
100%!! It’s not real like why are people going so hard and being rude to strangers online about it? 😭
Sigh.
Anyways, I hope you’re having a nice day, lovely anon 🫶🏽

I saw you reblogged a post from a Jabitha shipper and you seem to generally like Tabitha and seem pretty level headed, and while it wasn't the main focus of the post it was mentioned so I'm going to use this to ask, do you honestly not see how problematic and racist some BH stans are when they talk about Tabitha. I honestly read some of their posts and cringe. No one says you can't have negative feelings or dislike a character, but the tone and wording of these posts are yikes. If you switched out Tabitha for Veronica most of these blogs would be up in arms about the racism encoded in them, but because it's Tabitha it's ok?? I've shipped BH since day one, and they can pry them from my cold dead hands, but the fandom is just a completely different vibe now, and it's not a good one
Hey, anon!
I can most certainly believe fans have problematic reactions against Tabitha, as I have first-hand experience of fans having problematic reactions against Betty. In every fandom there’s bound to be all kinds of people. If there are bughead -or any other- fans who vent their post-4x17-frustrations by being pricks, my advice is to curate your experience to exclude their hot takes.
The problem with Riverdale is that it talks the talk but never walks the walk. One of the reasons the writers are so vocal about their ‘wokeness’ is to hide the fact that their day-to-day narratives are very problematic and have been so since s1: Val disappearing once she broke up with Archie? Check! Melody speaking barely a line? Check! Villain bully Reggie and villain harasser Chuck? Double check! (I mean, sure, the ultimate s1 villain was Clifford but he wasn’t in the picture until the penultimate episode, was he?).
The writers love to advertise the fact that they populate Riverdale with actors of colour but usually forget to mention that they systematically deny them any kind of agency by making them secondary characters.
Supporting characters are disposable, there is no way around this. More so, in a show like Riverdale, where canon is being rewritten on the regular.
Tabitha was created to be Jughead’s scene partner, when they decided to isolate his character from the rest of the group. Her role, from the very beginning, has been to prop the main character up. This would have been the case, no matter Tabitha’s skin colour. The fact, however, that this is the n-th time the writers have used a poc in this way, is undoubtfully infuriating. People have a right to be upset, because before Tabitha, there was Jessica (for Jughead). And before Jessica, there was Toni (also for Jughead). And before her, there was Josie (for Archie), and Val (for Archie), and Minerva (for Cheryl). Because Reggie was never portrayed as a threat to Archie, in the way that Chad was. Because Betty, the white female protagonist, was never given a male poc love interest (and I'd bet good riverdollars that she never will).
The Riverdale writers’ activism has always been performative. This is nothing new. Conversely, just because this has always been the case, it doesn’t mean that people shouldn’t complain about it.
Another problem is how shortsighted the writers’ choices are. When Tabitha says she’s travelled back in time 1384 times in order to save Jughead, it is not presented as a token of her love for him. On the contrary. In an episode where everyone and their mother had sex, Jabitha couldn’t even share a kiss. This is ridiculous! The 1348-times line was meant to create a sense of dread for Riverdale’s future in general and Jughead’s fate in particular. The reason why I shared that post is because, albeit a Bughead fan, I share the og poster’s indignation over this. Just because the 1384-times-line is serving a specific narrative purpose, this doesn’t preclude any other narrative implications. Objectively speaking, your girlfriend travelling back in time 1384 times in order to save you, should mean something. If Jabitha is not meant to have a future together, carelessly dropping these lines and prolonging their partnership, is not doing any characters any favours.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the season, anon, and -most importantly- I wish you a great fandom experience. Curating said experience is an ongoing process. Be generous with that block button, if need be. We're here to have fun and enjoy ourselves! ❤️
Thank you for the ask!

i wished people were even slightly open to liking matt.  and were more open to the fact julie plec ruined his characterization instead of him just becoming an asshole in later seasons. :(

Just saw some pinecest hate so thought I'd say:
Hi! I'm Citrus! And I really really don't like Pinecest (hear me out, this isn't an anti post)!
I have a twin brother, if you didn't know, and we were both MASSIVE fans of the show. Naturally, we both projected a LOT onto Dipper and Mabel, and their platonic relationship really means a lot to me. When I was younger I'd always lament how so many good fanart was Pinecest- I had to wonder why, why would people have to taint for me what what I considered such an important part of my younger days, what was such an important bit of media for me and my brother, something that felt so personal?
But here's the thing-
It wasn't about me.
Me and my twin projected onto Dipper and Mabel, and that's fine. That's understandable. I'm sure a lot of other siblings who watched the show did the same. I understand that instinctual knee-jerk reaction to seeing something like that, that feels like it should be common sense not to see the characters that way.
But the thing is, not everyone has to interpret or feel the same way about characters as I do.
Pinecest shippers don't know me personally. They don't know or care (for good reason! Why should they?) about my life experience, about my attachment to the show and it's two protagonists. A shipper might feel equally as attached to the two characters, just interpret and enjoy their relationship in a different way, and that's okay! Maybe they have siblings, maybe they don't. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter, because if I don't like it I can just... not interact with it.
I mean, hell, one of my favourite bloggers reblogged a Stancest fic. I was surprised- why would they like that kind of content. (Luckily I didn't have an account of any sort at the time so it's not like my negative opinions would have got to anyone anyway). But do you know what I did? I still clicked on it and read it (granted, I didn't get to the bit with any incest, but the fact that I was willing to open up my mind a little was good!)
I didn't have the same relationship with Dipper + Mabel's characters as I did the Stan twins (I couldn't relate as much to them at the time), so it was more bearable to me. And the same goes for all my problematic ships today! I ship Rickmorty (hear me out! Hear me out!) because I simply can't relate to the characters enough to feel that grossed out by the ship. I don't see myself and my grandpa in that position, and I'm not reminded of my own (platonic, before someone starts going off) familial relationships in the slightest. But someone else might be completely different- they might project a lot onto one of the characters, or both, in a completely platonic sense (much like myself with the Pines twins) or maybe incest, even fictional, is just a major squick or trigger for them! I don't know! All I can do is respect that, and accept that they don't like my ship.
I guess my point is that I'm a proshipper because I have ships I don't like! I have ships that I absolutely despise, that I wish never existed, that I completely loathe. And that's okay! I'm a proshipper because I respect the right for people to ship whatever fictional shit they want!
Because its Not About Me!
Why do I get the right to tell other people what to do with their time?
And the thing is, despite how clear I've made it that I Do Not Like Pinecest, I never once thought 'people shouldn't be allowed to make content for it'. Are people just not allowed to make things that make others uncomfortable? That's just being unfair. Your perfectly vanilla ship could be someone else's trigger. Or their squick. Maybe they just Don't Like It. Does that give THEM the right to tell YOU to stop shipping it? No!
I didn't obsessively go to as many Pinecest blogs and stew in how much I didn't like the ship. And you know what? I'm happier for it! I really am! Nowdays when I see pinecest art I either scroll past it with a scrunch of my nose and forget about it 2 seconds later, or I might even think, "hey, cool art style", or "nice composition" and give it a like. My liking (or lack thereof) towards the ship hasn't changed. I'm just a more mature, sympathetic person now.
What I'm trying to say is proshippers aren't encouraging people to ship "nasty" ships out of spite (ok, maybe a little-). We just want as many people to be as happy and comfortable online as possible. There's already way too much hate and intolerance on here, so why add to it, y'know?
