“Juno’s Damnation”

Before I get any weird comments about this, it’s a feminist piece.

This piece is based off of a Greek myth in which Juno/Hera stages a rebellion with a few other Olympian’s against Zeus, no doubt fed up with his tyranny and serial infidelity; something she’s made clear she is unhappy with. Ultimately the plan does not succeed and Hera is hanged from the sky into the abyss of chaos, anvil/s hanging from her feet. Hera’s rebellion was understandable, but in the end she faces a brutal and disturbing punishment, while Zeus gets off scott-free and without a lesson learned.

This is a pattern through the mythology (and I don’t condone every choice Hera made, but she is over-villainized), and this piece is simply a representation of suffering and violation and inequity that, even the literal queen of the gods, have faced throughout history. It struck a cord with me.
