So, I feel pressured now that I am required to use the said language which is aligned with my chosen program in college.
1. If English is your native language, then you are proficient in it.
When English or any other language is your native tongue, you assume that you use it pretty well. People can understand when you speak, and you understand everything on TV and in newspapers pretty easily. But what if there is an instance where you need to write a research paper? When facing such a challenge, most students decides to hire professional writers to write an essay for them. Some would argue that graduates cannot write advanced prose because the educational system fails to train them properly. The fact is, no matter how hard you try to master the English language, there are always new layers to discover. Being open to learning means that even though you know you have enough knowledge, there are things that someone knows that you don't.
2. You must not start your sentence with a conjunction
“Don't start a sentence with but!” “Don't start a sentence with ‘and’.” How many times have you received this saying? Elementary and high school teachers were usually pretty harsh with this “rule”. Still, there is no grammatical rule that says you must not use a conjunction in the beginning of a sentence. This is a stylistic preference. No one can explicitly tell you what your style is. So if you feel like starting a sentence with that, you might as well just do that. But it is better to be formal when writing academic papers. Teachers are still pretty strict with their expectations. There are so many rules that we don't yet know, but as time goes by, we encounter new vocabulary that might change our perspectives on the English language.
3. You can’t end a sentence with a preposition.
This is another rule that teachers used to enforce: “Don’t end a sentence with ‘by’, ‘on’, ‘with’, ‘about’, or any other preposition.” This “rule” has its roots in the 17th century, when Latin-obsessed writers wanted to impose their influence on the English language. Compare these two sentences: “You have much to dream about!” “You have much about which to dream.” The first one seems much more natural. And it ends with a preposition. It is hard for us to suddenly change what we learnt first.
4. There should be a specific number of sentences in a paragraph.
Some teachers will tell you to maintain a fixed number of sentences, such as three or five in a paragraph. This idea is delusional! The paragraph serves as a section that covers one main idea. As a matter of fact, you may use as many or as few sentences as you need to expose that idea. As long as we want to insert our idea on that topic, we can use as many words as we can.
Above all, there is what we called prescriptive and descriptive grammar in the English language. It only differs on the type of a literature or usage of the language if it is going to be used as formal or informal.

hi. on your post where you may or may not have ended on 'moffat is either your angel or your devil' did you have maybe an elaboration on that somewhere that i could possibly hear about. i'm very much a capaldi era stan and i've never tried to defend the matt smith era even though it had delightful moments sometimes so i wonder where that puts me. i'd love to hear your perspective on moffat as a person with your political perspective. -nicole
hi ok sorry i took so long to respond to this but i dont think you know how LOADED this question is for me but i am so happy to elaborate on that for you. first a few grains of salt to flavor your understanding of the whole situation: a. im unfairly biased against moffat bc im a davies stan and a tennant stan; b. i still very much enjoy and appreciate moffat era who for many reasons; and c. i hate moffat on a personal level far more than i could ever hate his work.
the thing is that its all always gonna be a bit mixed up bc i have to say a bunch of seemingly contradictory things in a row. for instance, a few moffat episodes are some of my absolute favorites of the rtd era, AND the show went way downhill when moffat took over, AND the really good episodes he wrote during the rtd era contained the seeds of his destruction.
like i made that post about the empty child/the doctor dances and it holds true for blink and thats about it bc the girl in the fireplace and silence in the library/forest of the dead are good but not nearly on the same level, and despite the fact that i like them at least nominally, they are also great examples of everything i hate about moffat and how he approached dw as a whole.
basically. doctor who is about people. there are many things about moffats tenure as showrunner that i think are a step up from rtd era who! actual gay people, for one! but i think that can likely be attributed mostly to an evolving Society as opposed to something inherent to him and his work, seeing as rtd is literally gay, and the existence of queer characters in moffats work doesnt mean the existence of good queer characters (ill give him bill but thats it!)
i have a few Primary Grievances with moffat and how he ran dw. all of them are things that got better with capaldi, but didnt go away. they are as follows:
moffat projects his own god complex onto the doctor
rtd era who had a doctor with a god complex. you cant ever be the doctor and not have a god complex. the problem with moffats era specifically is that the god complex was constant and unrepentant and was seen as a fundamental personality trait of the doctor rather than a demon he has to fight. he has the Momence where you feel bad for him, the Momence where he shows his humility or whatever and youre reminded that he doesnt want to be the lonely god, but those are just. moments. in a story where the doctor thinks hes the main character. rtd era doctor was aware that he wasnt the main character. he had to be an authority sometimes and he had to be the loner and he had to be sad about it, but he ultimately understood that he was expendable in a narrative sense.
this is how you get lines like “were the thin fat gay married anglican marines, why would we need names as well?” from the same show that gave you the gut punch moment at the end of midnight when they realize that nobody asked the hostess for her name. and on the one hand, thats a small sticking point, but on the other hand, its just one small example of the simple disregard that moffat has for humanity.
incidentally, this is a huge part of why sherlock sucked so bad: moffats main characters are special bc theyre so much bigger and better than all the normal people, and thats his downfall as a showrunner. he thinks that his audience wants fucking sheldon cooper when what they want is people.
like, ok. think of how many fantastic rtd era eps are based in the scenario “what if the doctor wasnt there? what if he was just out of commission for a bit?” and how those eps are the heart of the show!! bc theyre about people being people!! the thing is that all of the rtd era companions would have died for the doctor but he understood and the story understood that it wasnt about him.
this is like. nine sending rose home to save her life and sacrifice his own vs clara literally metaphysically entwining her existence w the doctor. ten also sending rose with her family to save her life vs river being raised from infancy to be obsessed w the doctor and then falling in love w him. martha leaving bc she values herself enough to make that decision vs amy being treated like a piece of meat.
and this is simultaneously a great callback to when i said that moffats episodes during the rtd era sometimes had the same problems as his show running (bc girl in the fireplace reeks of this), and a great segue into the next grievance.
moffat hates women
he hates women so fucking much. g-d, does steven moffat ever hate women. holy shit, he hates women. especially normal human women who prioritize their normal human lives on an equal or higher level than the doctor. moffat hated rose bc she wasnt special by his standards. the empty child/the doctor dances is the nicest he ever treated her, and she really didnt do much in those eps beyond a fuck ton of flirting.
girl in the fireplace is another shining example of this. youve got rose (who once again has another man to keep her busy, bc moffat doesnt think shes good enough for the doctor) sidelined for no reason only to be saved by the doctor at the last second or whatever. and then youve got reinette, who is pretty and powerful and special!
its just. moffat thinks that the doctor is as shallow and selfish as he is. thats why he thinks the doctor would stay in one place with reinette and not with rose. bc moffat is shallow and sees himself in the doctor and doesnt think he should have to settle for someone boring and normal.
not to mention rose met the doctor as an adult and chose to stay with him whereas reinette is. hm. introduced to the doctor as a child and grows up obsessed with him.
does that sound familiar? it should! bc it is also true of amy and river. and all of them are treated as viable romantic pairings. bc the only women who deserve the doctor are the ones whose entire existence revolves around him. which includes clara as well.
genuinely i think that at least on some level, not even necessarily consciously, that bill was a lesbian in part bc capaldi was too old to appeal to mainstream shippers. like twelve/clara is still a thing but not as universally appealing as eleven/clara but i am just spitballing. but i think they weighed the pros and cons of appealing to the woke crowd over the het shippers and found that gay companion was more profitable. anyway the point is to segue into the next point, which is that moffat hates permanent consequences.
moffat hates permanent consequences
steven moffat does not know how to kill a character. honestly it feels like hes doing it on purpose after a certain point, like he knows he has this habit and hes trying to riff on it to meme his own shit, but it doesnt work. it isnt funny and it isnt harmless, its bad writing.
the end of the doctor dances is so poignant and so meaningful and so fucking good bc its just this once! everybody lives, just this once! and then he does p much the same thing in forest of the dead - this one i could forgive, bc i do think that preserving those peoples consciousnesses did something for the doctor as a character, it wasnt completely meaningless. but everything after that kinda was.
rory died so many times its like. get a hobby lol. amy died at least once iirc but it was all a dream or something. clara died and was erased from the doctors memory. river was in prison and also died. bill? died. all of them sugarcoated or undone or ignored by the narrative to the point of having effectively no impact on the story. the point of a major character death is that its supposed to have a point. and you could argue that a piece of art could be making a point with a pointless death, ie. to put perspective on it and remind you that bad shit just happens, but with moffat the underlying message is always “i can do whatever i want, nothing is permanent or has lasting impact ever.”
basically, with moffat, tragedy exists to be undone. and this was a really brilliant, really wonderful thing in the doctor dances specifically bc it was the doctor clearly having seen his fair share of tragedy that couldnt be helped, now looking on his One Win with pride and delight bc he doesnt get wins like this! and then moffat proceeded to give him the same win over and over and over and over. nobody is ever dead. nobody is ever unable to be saved. and if they are, really truly dead and/or gone, then thats okay bc moffat has decided that [insert mitigating factor here]*
*the mitigating factor is usually some sort of computerized database of souls.
i can hear the moffat stans falling over themselves to remind me that amy and rory definitely died, and they did - after a long and happy life together, they died of old age. i dont consider that a character death any more than any other character choosing to permanently leave the tardis.
and its not just character deaths either, its like, everything. the destruction of gallifrey? never mind lol! character development? scrapped! the same episode four times? lets give it a fifth try and hope nobody notices. bc he doesnt know how to not make the doctor either an omnipotent savior or a self-pitying failure.
it is in nature of doctor who, i believe, for the doctor to win most of the time. like, it wouldnt be a very good show if he didnt win most of the time. but it also wouldnt be a very good show if he won all of the time. my point is that moffats doctor wins too often, and when he doesnt win, it feels empty and hollow rather than genuinely humbling, and you know hes not gonna grow from it pretty much at all.
so like. again, i like all of doctor who i enjoy all of it very much. i just think that steven moffat is a bad show runner and a decent writer at times. and it is frustrating. and im not here to convince or convert anyone im just living my truth. thank you for listening.

Hello! Uhm… there’s something I’ve been wondering about for a long time now regarding Nicol. And I figured I may as well ask now, since S2 has started airing.
I’ve seen his wiki page. And it says and I quote: It was later revealed that his emotionless face and quiet nature is a result of extreme trauma. From a young age, people of all genders and ages would tend to do absurd things, as well as assaulting him.
I’ve been so fixated on this probably since S1 had finished, yet I haven’t really had the time to read all the light novels to know where this specifically comes from or even be sure if it’s actually true. The only thing I managed to find was a scene (I think in one of the later volumes) about Katarina pointing out this creepy guy that took Nicol’s used utensils and stared at him a lot, but she didn’t do anything about it because Sophia saw nothing wrong with that guy’s behavior and told her it was okay.
I’m not sure if the wiki was referring to that scene, or something else. And since I know that you read the light novels, I was hoping if maybe you could check that info and confirm/deny it for me. If it is true… then it really puts a whole different perspective on Nicol. People in the series have been shown to faint if Nicol smiles, but it was also mentioned how he was one of the only second year students in the student council because people would fight over him.
And to think their behavior possibly had escalated to the point of traumatizing him as a child makes me very heartbroken to think about. Especially when the wiki also mentioned how he feels very uncomfortable when he’s the center of attention… makes me wonder if the anime will even touch upon any of that.

I'm an editor for the wiki, so I admit that I have seen that description on Nicol's page too. I don't know who wrote it (and I never bothered to edit or adjust the wording), but that doesn't really matter since it's not exactly something I can deny.
Before that I just want to make it clear first that the "assault" mentioned in the wiki is probably not sexual or physical assault, it's likely referring to a simple assault, aka any unwanted advances that is done without consent. Whether or not any advances on Nicol while he was growing up were leaning towards sexual assault or physical assault (unwanted physical contact from men and women, sexual invitations, groping etc.) has not been mentioned by the books. It used to be a very popular headcanon for the more darker and realistic depictions of the hamefura or fortune lover world to give Nicol that kind of backstory, which is why I still feel like clarifying just in case anyone might get the wrong idea.
Hamefura is a very light-hearted series so I doubt it would put Nicol is such a tough dark position. While it's played for laughs, thankfully Nicol's beauty makes him so dazzling that people can't get close to him rather than being so handsome that people would try to initiate physical contact at every opportunity lmao.
Rather than the wiki pertaining to a specific scenes, I think it might be written in hindsight instead. It could very much be referring to the guy from Volume 6 who keeps staring at Nicol and stealing his uetnsils, but I feel like it could also be referring to the possibility/likeliness of such events and advances happening regularly. Like we don't really need to be told that men and woman throw themselves at Nicol for us to know about it. I mean if its frequent enough for Nicol to be unbothered by it, then it must happen a lot (as gross as that is). Regardless, those advances can still be classified as assault (since Nicol is not a fan of it at all) and the only reason he doesn't do anything about it is because it happens so often that it might be not worth the trouble anymore. At least we do know from the StoryMe hamefura game that Nicol will act in the face of an unfavorable position if he can, so hopefully he isn't just sitting around like an animal in the zoo if he were to receive unwanted advances.
I wouldn't deny that all of these interactions hadn't traumatized Nicol though. They never really mention in the books word-for-word why Nicol is so emotionally stunted/incapable and silent, they only really mention that he doesn't talk because he doesn't want to receive any unwarranted pity. In the first hamefura anthology (whose canonicity is up for debate), they do say there that the reason why Nicol doesn't talk a lot is because people would twist his words in order to turn it around and make him sound more tragic and pitiable than he actually is. I'm no expert on what is or what isn't considered as trauma, but that sounds like a source of trauma to me. The idea of Nicol being so fed up of people misinterpreting his words and expressions in order to fit what they want to hear must have been so hard on him, to the point where he decided to just not speak at all. It can be easily link to his emotionless-ness too, since any positive reaction like a smile could be twisted to mean other things.

Realistically, having people constantly fight over you, whisper things about you behind your back, constantly ogle at you and be constantly flirted on regardless of gender sounds terrible. If that was me I'd be traumatized too. He definitely hates being in the center of attention for all the reasons previously discussed and other well-known variables; he's always in the eyes of every noble around him which makes him hate being in the spotlight (from his perspective, maybe he always feels like the spotlight is on him, like it'll just never leave. he'll always bothered by the eyes of other people even maybe when he's at home... eyes watching him with desires and expectations, haunting him even when he's alone...). It really makes you think about what kind of life Nicol had been living in without Katarina's positive influence. He would have to bear the burden alone, without being able to say a word about it because he needs to act tough for the sake of Sophia.
Like geez, Nicol is even aware that he has stalkers but isn't doing anything about because "they aren't harmful". He never even really clarified what he meant by that (at least I don't remember anyways, feel free to correct me), like is he already doing something to stop the stalker, is it happening so often that he doesn't care anymore or is he fine with it because the stalker hasn't done anything dangerous (yet)???
If you want an /objective/ answer to whether or not the wiki description was referring to the stalker man from Volume 6 or something else, that line on the wiki was added on April 27, 2020; while the JP release of Volume 6 was on March 20, 2018 vs the EN ebook release which was on June 28, 2020.
The editor is likely a JP reader, or it was just an interpretation based most-likely what-if scenarios/interpretations. That's a fun fact for ya :DD
—and since you mentioned that you haven't read all the volumes of the light novels yet, let me help you by listing chapters in the books with a Nicol POV (that I can remember, as of Volume 9)

TLDR; the trauma and assault mentioned in the wiki is definitely real, although the extent and severity might depend on the reader('s imagination). There's no particular scene to point to as the source, explanation or example of Nicol being given uncomfortable treatment, but it's not hard to imagine given the kind of character Nicol is. He is a silent beauty who caries himself smartly and politely, which in the eyes of many carnivorous nobles is the perfect kind of prey. Whether or not he was assaulted in any way or if people's behavior towards him can be considered as assault depends on the reader, since we still have yet to get a deep dive on Nicol's life outside of his friend group.

Projecting Story Elements for Magic: the Gathering in 2022
OK, I love the Magic: the Gathering storyline which ranks near the top on my list of favorite hobbies on Tumblr.  This year brings numerous opportunities to speculate on the story elements for this year’s premier MTG sets!  So for this post I am going to speculate on: 
1.  Potential story elements of the set
2.  Specific events which may occur
3.  Planeswalkers who may appear in the set
I will go set by set, and try to incorporate as much known knowledge as possible!  I may update my thoughts as sets (and stories from released sets) become known as the year progresses.  Without further ado!
Innistrad: Crimson Vow
Technically not in 2022, but coming soon none-the-less!  We know lots about the story elements, considering Crimson Vow takes place directly after Midnight Hunt.  
Story Elements:
The first known thing about Crimson Vow is the “Biggest vampire wedding in Innistrad history!” which will unite the Voldaren and Markov bloodlines.  We also know from the story so far that night on Innistrad is overcoming day.  Humans who once turned to Avacyn for safety increasingly look to other sources for protection, including ancient magics forgotten when Sorin created Avacyn.  One Coven seeks to restore the balance, and needs the Moonsilver Key in the Celestus to perform the ritual.
We also know part of the Gatewatch: Teferi, Chandra and Kaya came to Innistrad to assist Arlinn Kord, who seeks to help restore the Day/Night balance on her home plane.  Now, while Arlinn & the Gatewatch succeed in finding the Moonsilver Key, and also succeed in starting the ritual: I do not believe the ritual passes.  I suspect Olivia Valdaren ends the ritual and blocks it based on the card: Olivia’s Midnight Ambush.  The flavor text on this card reads:
"And you were almost finished with that ritual, weren't you, darling? How very rude of me. To make it up to you, I'll send you an invitation to my wedding."
I suspect her raid ends the ritual, kills the Coven leader, and spirals us into Crimson Vow.  
Overall, this suggests that much of the plot of Crimson Vow will surround new attempts to restore the balance between Day and Night.  I suspect Sorin Markov, who fights Sigarda in a rage, will unite with the Gatewatch (and Arlinn Kord, & Sigarda) to save the plane.  How they do this is not revealed as of yet.  However, I suspect one plot detail has been spoiled for the set and thats....
Specific Events:
Edgar Markov marries Olivia Valdaren.  
Olivia is the known progenitor of the Voldaren line, as Edgar Markov is the known progenitor of the Markov line.  At first I felt Sorin would marry Olivia, but I find this unlikely as Olivia despises Sorin (and refuses to save him at the end of Eldritch Moon).  Sorin may care for the future of Innistrad but he remains hedonistic and petty; he spends the end of Episode 2 in this story line griping about how nobody sacrificed as much as he did for the plane and why should he be expected to give more?  He also treats Nahiri quite shallowly when she arrives on Innistrad to demand he help her fix Zendikar.  
More importantly, however, we also get card evidence that Edgar Markov is involved in this story, specifically: Fateful Absence.  The flavor text for this card reads:
“Sensing a plot, Sorin raced to his grandfather's resting-crypt. But someone else had gotten there first.“
The plot going like this, I suspect, for the story:
A) Our heroes (the Gatewatch, Sigarda, Arlinn) regroup after Olivia invokes eternal night by defeating the ritual.
B) They join up with Sorin Markov, who is now angry at Olivia for convincing his grandfather to marry her, and hatch a plan to stop the wedding
C) Olivia marries Edgar
D) The wedding turns into a bloody mess as the Gatewatch, Arlinn, & Sigarda all try to reverse the damage.  Sorin spends the story finding a way to get revenge.  
E) One of Edgar or Olivia survives
F) Emrakul is released and everybody dies (Just kidding)
Anyway, with all of this laid out that leaves us with potential planeswalkers.
Planeswalker Appearances:
Each set I will assume only three planeswalkers appear, with speculation for a fourth & fifth.
We already know Arlinn Kord, Teferi, & Sorin Markov will get cards; Arlinn & Teferi will not get cards in this set since they appeared in Midnight Hunt. Sorin Markov appears on the packaging, which nearly guarantees his appearance as a card in this set.
Slot 1: Sorin Markov, WB
Now, Chandra Nalaar and Kaya both appear in the story.  The next quesiton would be: do they get cards in the 2nd set since they are known to appear in the story?  It’s a tough call.  Chandra would fit in nicely since Sorin will almost certainly appear as a WB planeswalker granting a third color for balance purposes.  Kaya, on the other hands, presents two problems.  First, she shares her color identity with the story’s likely main character.  Second, she already got a card recently in Kaldheim (which is still in Standard).  I would guess she lacks a card in the set.
Slot 1: Sorin Markov, WB Slot 2: Chandra Nalaar, R
Now we’re into more speculative territory.  I highly doubt we only get two planeswalkers in the set, which leaves open a spot for a new planeswalker (likely a blue  planeswalker).  That being said, I would not be surprised if Tamiyo makes an appearance in the 3rd slot; she appeared in both previous stops in Innistrad, and two of her colors would fill out the color balancing in the set so far.
Slot 1: Sorin Markov, WB Slot 2: Chandra Nalaar, R Slot 3: Tamiyo, U
Other potential planeswalkers include the aforementioned Kaya, Tibalt (who would love to spoil a wedding), & Davirel Cane.  If I had to make a stab at a fourth walker I’d gamble and guess Davriel, with a final list of:
Slot 1: Sorin Markov, WB Slot 2: Chandra Nalaar, R Slot 3: Tamiyo, U Slot 4: Davriel Cane, B
Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty
Story Elements:
So little is known about the new set except that the set takes place concurrently in the present, and that the set will feature both a new planeswalker, Keito, and that the current Emperor of Kamigawa is “someone we’re familiar with” which sadly does not tell us much. Let’s start by considering some known characters from the original block:
Toshiro Umezawa.  Toshi is definitely not the emperor.  First, Toshi was sent to Dominaria by the Myojin of Night’s Reach at the end of the block (and his descendent will eventually kill Nicol Bolas).  Second, he’d almost assuredly be dead by now.
Hidetsugu.  An ogre who joined with the Oni of All Consuming Chaos, he could conceivably be alive at this point, although he would not be my guess.
The Myojin of Night’s Reach.  Unlikely.  While powerful enough, ambitious enough, to try: I just do not see her being able to take the power.  She was defeated by Bolas sometime after the events of the original block, for instance.
The Sisters of Flesh & Spirit.  Better known as “That Which was Taken” and “Michiko Konda” both characters join at the end of the 3rd book.  They’re the most likely candidate to run the whole plane, the only downside is I doubt many players actually know who they are, or how they became one.
However, their union would potentially explain the futuristic nature of the plane.  If the Emperor is both spirit and flesh, then the spirit world (Kakuriyuo) & physical world (Utsushiyo) may have joined as well, giving the plane its current futuristic (dare I say: neon) appearance.
Specific Events:
I will only predict one event in this set, and that’s the appearance from Tamiyo’s story circle.  I would be shocked if this relatively well known gathering is not referenced in the set.  It would be a surprise, to say the least.
Planeswalker Appearances:
First thing’s first: Keito is confirmed for the set.  We do not know what color identity he has yet, but they did call Keito a “cyber ninja” in the video.  Ninjas are a pretty evenly split tribe between blue and black, so I will call Keito a UB planeswalker for now:
Slot 1: Keito, UB
I cannot imagine them returning to Kamigawa without bringing back Tamiyo.  I know she literally is predicted to appear in Innistrad: Crimson Vow but I think predicting her here is also plausible.
Slot 1: Keito, UB Slot 2: Tamiyo, U
Next, they also mentioned that a “mysterious planeswalker” would make an appearance in this set as well.  Now, they did not say whether this planeswalker was a new planeswalker or a returning planeswalker.  Some planeswalkers we know of who I would classify as mysterious include: Kasmina, The Raven Man, The Wanderer, Davriel Cane, Ashiok, & Aminatou.  Ashiok is currently investigating New Phyrexia and shares my predicted colors with Keito; Davriel (I think) is a strange fit on this set, and I do not see us learning about the Raven Man absent Liliana.  That leaves the Wanderer, Aminatou, or Kasmina.  We did just see Kasmina and I do suspect she plays a role in whatever arc they are building up to, but she conflicts with Keito & Tamiyo.  That leaves the Wanderer or Aminatou.  Given Mark Rosewater’s doubts about Aminatou (and her own conflicts) I predict The Wanderer.
Slot 1: Keito, UB Slot 2: Tamiyo, U Slot 3: The Wanderer, W
That does leave room for a walker with red and green.  Samut fits in, but I will guess Sarkhan who originally appeared Gruul, and may visit with Narset.

Streets of New Capenna
Planeswalker Appearances:
So little is known about this new plane that I will limit myself to guessing planeswalkers.  Ob Nixilis is confirmed, and this is a wedge set, so I am predicting they finally print Nixilis as a Rakdos planeswalker.
Slot 1: Ob Nixilis, BR
They also confirmed this plane is “special” to Elspeth.  You do not name drop that and not include her.
Slot 1: Ob Nixilis, BR Slot 2: Elspeth, W
OK.  As far as I know: Ajani has not reunited with Elspeth yet, which suggests to me that there is room for a reunion in this set.  
Slot 1: Ob Nixilis, BR Slot 2: Elspeth, W Slot 3: Ajani Goldmane, WG
Calix would be my second choice, same colors, since he is currently chasing her.  If there is one other potential walker I would guess a new walker.  I honestly do not see what other walker would fit here, especially with Nixilis taking up the BR space in this scenario.
Dominaria United
Specific Events:
If you read the first story from Midnight Hunt you know that Teferi helped Wrenn find her seventh tree to bond with, and that Wrenn offered to help Teferi repair the damage his spell phasing out Zhalfir from Dominaria did to both his home and his plane.  Given the name I predict Teferi works with Wrenn to restore Dominaria to its full state.  
I also predict that Teferi, Karn, & Ajani all work together to plan out the destruction of New Phyrexia (with an eventual showdown sometime in 2023).  
Planeswalker Appearances:
I think Dominaria United will act like a traditional core set.  So, with that being said, I think the following walkers appear:
Slot 1: Teferi, U Slot 2: Wrenn, G
As said above, I think a big part of the story line is Teferi bringing Zhalfir back to Dominaria.  That requires both Wrenn and Teferi, and since this is a core set both will get only a single color.
Slot 1: Teferi, U Slot 2: Wrenn, G Slot 3: Ajani, W
Ajani will return helping Teferi and Karn plan the destruction of New Phyrexia.  Since Ajani is base white its a good fit.  There are plenty of mono red planeswalkers but only two which make story sense.  The first is Koth, but since I doubt he leaves New Phyrexia I do not think he makes an appearance.  My guess is Jaya Ballard, a native Dominarian, will show up in the fourth spot instead.
Slot 1: Teferi, U Slot 2: Wrenn, G Slot 3: Ajani, W Slot 4: Jaya Ballard, R
The 5th spot is the one I am not sure of; if Wizards wanted to tell a largely Dominarian story they would bring back Liliana Vess, but I do not think she quite makes sense for this story as she is in hiding and as far as I know her appearance would not sit well with Teferi and Ajani (Gatewatch members).  I will toss out three possibilities: 1) Sorin Markov (guessing Teferi recruits him to protect Innistrad against an inter-planar threat), 2) Davriel Cane, or 3) Karn (and go colorless).  They could also just include Karn as a 6th walker like Core Set 2021.  For now, I will assume Karn as the 5th walker.

The Brothers War
This set does not require speculation since the story has already been told.  I would highly recommend reading the book.  The only thing I will say for certain is: Urza finally gets a real planeswalker card.

Manga vs. Anime: My Next Life as a Villainess
I would like to be clear,I have greatly enjoyed the anime so far and find it to be very charming. Also, because we are only three episodes into the anime, I want to hold out on any strong opinions as of now.
That being said, the anime has felt rushed and hurried along in my opinion.
Which has been disappointing – as some of my favorite parts from the Manga didn’t receive as much attention, as I feel like they deserved. 
I wouldn’t mind the hurried pace of the anime, if I felt like it lent itself more to the comedic timing. But so far, the Manga’s comedic timing has had more of a punch to it. 
Though, to be fair, it’s only been three episodes and it’s very possible they’ve rushed through the childhood bits to focus on the harem’s time at the Magic Academy and when the Otome Game begins. 
However, according to Wikipedia there are only 12 episodes.
So, the anime is presumably going to cover 15 Manga Chapters in the next 9 episodes. Which is certainly possible, especially since the first 7 chapters of the manga were depicted in 3 episodes.
Given, how I’ve felt about the first three episodes in comparison to the first 7 chapters, I am slightly concerned for the next 9 episodes.
I just feel like the manga explains the premise of certain scenes better than the anime has so far and adds more context to form a larger picture. 
Particularly with Katarina’s rationale.
In the Manga, we get a far more depth look into why Katarina believes simply not bullying the heroine will not be enough. 
As Katarina could be accused of being the ringleader of the bullies as she was the ringleader in the game. Or Geordo, who in the game is described as a ‘black-hearted prince’ might falsely accuse her of bullying, so he can be with the heroine.
We also get to see Katarina saying that she actually has difficulty imagining her Geordo exiling or killing her, but she quickly dismisses the reality of her situation; by believing that Geordo falling in love with the heroine will change him and he might soon view his current fiancée (her) as a nuisance to him.
Katarina is dense, don’t get me wrong – but her rationale does give credence to her reasoning and actions – if that makes sense.
So, I am disappointed with that.
Though, maybe, I’m just more than a bit salty that Katarina’s 15th Birthday Party didn’t get the attention I thought it deserved. 
I think particularly in the dancing with the guys and even more specifically with Geordo.
Geordo and Katarina’s dance in the anime does make sense, but I think the manga really gave it a bit more depth…context…detail?
But, while I don’t think her birthday party deserves an entire episode by itself, it being squeezed in the last few minutes of the most recent episode, was not ideal. 
That best describes it, I think. The anime feels like it’s trying to squeeze a lot in the last minute, so to speak.
However,
The manga is not without its own faults and the anime has added its own elements that have improved the story.
We are introduced to Katarina and get to see her and Geordo interact, before she regains her memories 
Keith’s backstory is elaborated on - He ended up hurting his brothers because he wanted to protect a bird and her babies from them.
Seeing Katarina break down Keith’s door from his perspective and seeing the light pouring into the room bit by bit, as the door and his loneliness crumble away, was sheer perfection
Geordo observing (from a distance) Katarina and Alan becoming friends and establishing, what I presume might be more jealousy between Geordo and Alan than the manga presented. 
Geordo and Alan setting up their party and Geordo clearly being aware of Alan’s feelings before Alan is.
Geordo also stating that he has no intention of letting Katarina go as his fiancée.
Geordo saying that predicting what Katarina will do next is basically the one thing he’s not good at
Sophia being invited to the party and we get to see her clear concern and fear
Nicol’s route in the game is made a lot clearer than it was in manga
Nicol dealing with people insulting his sister (we do see this later in the manga, with a flashback).
Katarina gets a slight Ojou laugh when she leaves Keith and Mary to go to the bathroom (the manga did have Ho Ho Ho next to her in the very same scene)
The scene where Katarina jumps out of the tree, scaring away Sophia bullies is a lot clearer than it was in the manga
Sophia mentions a romance book between two women she read – that line alone adds more credence to the girls also falling for Katarina and it’s not just being "really good friendships”
Overall, more Alan and Nicol in the story. Or at the very least, more Alan. 
The manga also has scenes and details that are not needed for the flow of the story, so those getting cut aren’t a problem. 
I would much rather have an extra scene or two of the harem rather than learn Katarina has to take 5 maids with her to school, and so on.
But I also wanted more of Katarina’s Birthday Party Scene as well...so there’s that.
Basically, I just wish some of my favorite scenes in the manga were translated to the anime and given the attention, I feel like they deserved. 
But I am curious, if those who have only really seen the anime feel like the pacing is rushed.
Because, honestly the fact that one gets to set their own pace when reading a manga might be the sole cause for my issues with the pacing. 
And that’s true of any written work being translated onto screen. What my mind focuses on, might not be the intention of the author or might not be interpreted by others in the same way.
For instance, I’ve personally read the end of chapter 7 with a twinge of sadness to it.

Because, as much as Katarina has been preparing herself for the game’s potential endings, I don’t think she will ever be prepared for the heartbreak she’ll experience, if they were to come true.
Again, that’s just how I read it. 
I may have also thought that an animated version of Chapter 7′s ending could’ve been an easy improvement upon what we got from the Manga. Basically, what I just presented to you above (as I omitted several panels from the Manga). 
But we’re way off topic now. 
Obviously, this isn’t a new problem for manga readers – I just haven’t read all that much Manga in comparison to all the anime I’ve watched. And in some cases of Manga vs Anime, I’ve personally felt the anime improved upon it or they were evenly matched.
So, I guess, since fell in love with manga instantly more so than I did with the first episode, I just want the anime to bring its all to this story.
I also hope the anime can slow down in its pacing, now that we’ve gotten to the main story.

I'd recommend looking it up because it's amazing, it's also in my "Elektra" tag, but basically Elektra's mother is saying that she (Elektra) sucks and Elektra replies that filth teaches filth. Basically saying her mother made her what she is. I use this one to for things that remind me of intergenerational trauma and the cycle of abuse.
She Gives Them Butterflies Bats Her Cartoon Eyes- A lyric from Lana's song Carmen. Basically for anything that reminds me of the sugarbaby aesthetic. A croquettish girl who plays the role of men's fantasies, chameleon soul, probably a little unaware of her own downfall or at peace with it, relies on the kindess of strangers, buying into her own con
Feminine Horror - Anything that reminds me of women being made into monsters for experiencing basic human emotions, wants and needs. Or women themselves internalizing that label of evil men put on them for having an internal voice of their own, for being more than dolls, aka a "bad woman"
When a House is Both Hungry and Awake Every Room Becomes a Mouth - For the idea or feeling of a house becoming synonymous with the pain and trauma that has taken place inside it, becoming a visual for the abusive dynamic that takes place inside it. Gothic. Seperates the people in it from the outside world, feeds on the people within it. The "house" meaning the system of abuse always wins and the people always suffer. Think Hill House, Adderdale Hall (Crimson Peak), Foxworth Hall (Flowrs in the Attic), etc
Rancid and Delicate - Reference to Nicole Dollanger's song Alligator Blood. For anything that feels creepy, gross or unsettling but in a way that includes tradionally girlish, doll-like, child-like or cutesy elements.

Not sure if you'll answer this, but: thoughts on season 4 of Wearp thus far? On ~that~ scene?
You know... I am actually feeling pretty good about S4 so far.  Which, to be honest, is a big surprise, trust me.  lol
Not to say that there aren’t definitely still some issues.  But I am saying this in comparison to S3, which...  quite frankly...  I am still super salty about.  So taking that into account, I feel like this season has been an improvement?  I am allowing myself to be very cautiously optimistic at this point.
I will say that pacing felt all over the place to me in the beginning.  Enough so to give me whiplash in a few places.  But I feel like part of that was a desperation to get the loose ends from S3 tied up so that they could finally settle into the new storyline for S4.  Not the best excuse in the world, but given the shorter season format, I suppose some of that is unavoidable.  The most recent episode -- 4x04 -- seemed like it was beginning to return to the clearer pattern of storytelling that was more reminiscent to the earlier seasons, so... I guess we’ll see how the pacing will progress from here.
Since you specifically asked about ~that~ scene, I guess I will start there.  I think it was beautiful, and emotional, and genuine, and I feel honored that we got to be a part of something like that.  It was respectful in all the ways that a scene created with the Male Gaze™ in mind is not, and that alone was incredibly important.  
Other things I am rather pleased about:
- Wynonna’s emotional growth.  I could cry with how happy it makes me to see her unafraid of embracing her feelings, and even going so far as to share them with others.  Letting people in and learning to lean on her family is only going to make her even stronger in the end.  I just want to hug her and tell her how proud of her I am.
- We are finally getting the Wynaught BROTP that we’ve been waiting for since the very beginning.  They had made so much progress in S2, and then the writers came in during S3 and forced this bullshit narrative of pettiness and sniping comments that were aimed to hurt rather than their typical banter that was meant to be playful.  It was the worst regression I’ve ever seen, and made me quite angry to see them constantly getting fucked over for the sole purpose of “ooo...  drama...”  I mean, seriously.  Fuck off with that shit.  
But for everything they did wrong last season, they are doing all of it right this season.  Canon Best Friends!  Emotional vulnerability with each other!  Genuine love and relief when they were reunited!  And I feel like it’s going to be Wynonna that eventually breaks through to Nicole (re: her PTSD), because Wynonna is in the unique position of having gone through similar traumas before, and will be able to understand Nicole’s struggles in a way that no one else quite can.  ((More on this in my next point.))
- Nicole’s PTSD is very real, and is not being swept under the rug.  That’s not to say that Nicole isn’t trying to ignore it and clearly deflects the subject any time it’s been brought up, but that doesn’t mean the show and the other characters are ignoring it.  The fact that she can’t return Waverly’s “I love you” right now, and how she’s using kisses and sex to distract Waverly every time she tries to bring it up...  Speaking as someone with experience, Nicole’s blatant avoidance is a very real thing that happens, regardless of how unhealthy of a coping mechanism it is.  
And as for what I said about Wynonna before...  By no means do I think that Waverly isn’t doing a good enough job of trying to be there for Nicole.  She’s tried on several occasions to coax a conversation out of her, but at least when Nicole shuts her down, she doesn’t just give up.  She recognizes her distress and tries to give her what she needs in the moment:  going with her to check the traps, or telling her to go back home and check on Rachel because she can tell how distraught she is about it, or even allowing Nicole to work out her feelings through physical means.
But I think in this instance, it's going to be Wynonna that eventually gets through to her.  Because sometimes -- no matter how much they love you -- it is not always your romantic partner that can help the way you need it.  Sometimes a best friend is the one that has to break through and help you open up to the others that you love.  And with Wynonna...  All of that shit she went through when she was younger -- when people thought she was crazy -- she's able to see what's happening to Nicole in a way that no one else can.
Other things I am less than pleased about:
Basically, the primary thing here is the potential for another possession storyline.  How many times do we have to watch the same goddamn trope over and over again?  
And now we have two separate possibilities for it running at the same time:  
1) Eve is definitely loose and will definitely show up again at some point.  Currently, I think she’s posing as Amon.  But who’s to say how long that will last?  How long before we have her strolling down the street as Nicole again, or Waverly, or even Wynonna herself, and suddenly, every single scene we watch is just a whole bunch of “well, one of the people in that scene wasn’t who they said they were, so now nothing is real.”  UGH.  We’ve already done this with Mikshun and Maeve and, to an extent, with everyone being glamored by vampires and under their sway.  I am intrigued to see what kind of storyline possibilities Eve could present, but if this is where they go with it?  NO THANK YOU.
2)  Nicole is now... what?  Possessed by a Creepy Clanton?  Sold her soul to further the line of the Clanton heirs?  *sigh*  Here we go again...  
Anyway.  Sorry for rambling.  Apparently I’ve had a lot of feelings about this season thus far that I hadn’t really processed into coherent thoughts yet.  Lucky you, I guess.  lol

I've noticed that you've been reblogging a lot of The Untamed recently and I have just finished The Untamed & literally cannot think about anything else. I'm obsessed. Anyway, I've also noticed from your blog that your favorite seems to be JGY and I find that *fascinating*. He's very much not my fav, but he's such a complex character that I would love to hear your thoughts & feelings & analysis?
And to be completely clear, I will never try to debate with you or say your opinions are wrong or immoral or anything. I'm not an anti, I've stanned plenty of villains in my time. I'm just genuinely curious. I think the fact that you have such different feelings about this character is part of the beauty of stories and a testament to how complex and smart this particular story is.
Hello friend! First of all, thank you for your ask -- I love talking about my fictional faves, so there’s no need to apologize at all! There are definitely people out there who have already posted much more cohesive and succinct character analysis for JGY, but I’ve sat down for a bit to find an answer to the question of why I, personally, like him so much. I ended up finding six possible ways to answer this question, which I’ll list below and then go into (a lot) more detail under the cut. Hope you enjoy!
1) I like him because his motivations as a villain are complex and understandable
2) I like him because there’s no easy solution to his conflicts
3) I like him because he interacts with the story in a unique way
4) I like him because when we see him on top of his game, it’s fun to watch
5) I like him because LXC likes him
6) JGY is very small and has dimples
So, onward! (2.7k)
1) I like him because his motivations as a villain are complex and understandable
One possible way of looking at JGY is that throughout the entire story, his end goal is to eliminate all of the Jin family and come out on top as sect leader, chief cultivator and most powerful person in the cultivation world. However, I personally find it more intriguing to think that his specific plans shifted throughout the story and that he didn’t follow a long con the way NHS did, but that the common ground in everything he does is that he’s motivated by wanting security. Then, everything that he does afterwards is a step-by-step escalation when no matter what he does and how far he comes, his goal is always dangled right in front of him, but ultimately impossible to reach.
When he joins the Nie clan, on a superficial level it seems that this place could offer him the security he wants and needs, especially with NMJ protecting him -- but on the flip side of the coin, no one apart from NMJ and NHS seem to respect him, and his security entirely depends on NMJ’s goodwill. It’s an exteremely fragile position that could probably only ever last for a limited amount of time. Even if JGY never killed the guard captain and wasn’t thrown out of the Unclean Realm, how would the future have looked like for him? NMJ’s life expectancy was low to begin with, and once he had died (of natural causes, in this hypothetical case), NHS wouldn’t have been able to hold the same protective hand over JGY as his brother, and JGY would have become the disrespected advisor to the disrespected clan leader. (On a side note, I personally don’t think JGY released XY to get the yin iron -- I think it makes more sense that he wanted to use XY as bargaining chips against WC, seeing how he goes to free him immediately after WC asks for NMJ to release XY, to save the Unclean Realm and, in extension, his own ass.)
After JGY is thrown out, he’s basically out of options -- it’s go big or go home, because which other clan would take him in now? So he sets his sight on being recognized by JGS once more, and in order to succeed, he derives the plan of becoming a spy under WRH and do something so “heroical” that after the war, JGS has no other choice but to accept him into his clan. And at first, it seems like he succeeds and that he finally gets everything he wished for -- his father recognizes him as a son and gives him a position, he’s part of the Jin clan, he has power, he’s secure! But then it turns out that he was wishing on the monkey’s paw. His father doesn’t truly recognize him, and even in the Jin clan he’s disrespected (by JGS, by Madam Jin, by Jin Zixun), he doesn’t truly hold power (he just has to do whatever JGS tells him to), and he’s not secure (JGS instrumentalizes him because he’s useful to him right now, but does that mean he’ll be useful forever? So there’s a constant threat there).
I think the only reason JGS officially adopts JGY is that it allows him to claim the victory over WRH for the Jin clan and to expand his own power. Instead of JGY being recognized, JGS instrumentalizes him from the very first second and to make it worse, he makes JGY his attack dog the same way WRH did. I think the things JGY does under both WRH and JGS are absolutely horrifying, but I can’t help but also feel horrified for him. Under WRH, I think he tells himself that whatever he does is the lesser evil because it’ll end the war quicker, and that it’ll all be worth it in the end, and as a result, he loses parts of his own humanity there. And then under JGS, it’s the same fucked up shit again, except that this time, he also wants so very badly for JGS to value him, and in addition, he’s also completely out of options now. Without wanting to excuse the things he does under JGS, the only alternative at this point is for him to leave the Jin clan and the cultivation world as a whole, and I do think there’s a definite possibility that JGS would have him killed if he did because he knew too much about JGS’s plans.
Without passing judgment on his involvement in JZX and JZX’s deaths, as well as him killing NMJ and JGS for now (the latter being the one thing that I’m personally most horrified of), I don’t see JGY as a villain who enjoys being the villain the way XY does. I think he’s constantly horrified at himself and compartmentalizes to a degree where he’s actually derailing his own plans. Him throwing out XY immediately after killing JGS reads to me as him wanting to close the chapter of everything they did under JGS -- I think he must have acted out of a visceral emotion there or else he wouldn’t have left XY to die at the side of a road so carelessly (and, in effect, allowed for someone to live on with detailed knowledge of his own deeds). After rising to power (and finally, seemingly, really getting the security he’s always wanted), he doesn’t use that power to become WRH 3.0, but instead to do genuinely good things (such as building the watch towers). That’s not supposed to mean that him not being a cruel despot makes up for everything he’s done, but I find it interesting to think about from the perspective of, what kind of person could he have been if this opportunity had been given to him freely -- if his own class and social standing didn’t prevent him from that? I think he’d have become an incredibly powerful cultivator and clan leader if he’d have the same privilege as JZX.
In a way, I see JZX, WC, and JGY as narrative foils. WC shows us who JZX might have become if JGS treated him the same way as WRH treats WC. But, JGS doesn’t -- he shields his own son from this part of the Jin clan, and basically allows him to live in a completely different reality as JGY! JZX’s whole character arc is one of personality development, and becoming a hero, and falling in love -- he doesn’t have a clue about his father wanting to get his hands on XY and the Stygian tiger amulet and arguably about at least part of the war crimes he commits against the Wen clan. It’s not part of his life. In a way, JGY is the sacrifice being made to allow him to live his life unaware because in him, JGS found someone else to do his dirty work.
2) I like him because there’s no easy solution to his conflicts
Sometimes, when you want to be a villain apologist, all you need to do is point at one or a few bits of the story and say, “well if they hadn’t done that...”. (See, for example, Anakin Skywalker -- you wanna write a RotS canon divergence fixit? Just have Obi-Wan come back approximately one hour earlier and you have it, because before Anakin kills the Jedi even the Younglings he’s basically completely redeemable.) With JGY, you don’t get to have that. There’s no single turning point where you could say, “if he had picked the other option, he could have had a happy ending”. And part of the reason for that, which makes him a tragic character in my eyes, is that he crucially lacks options at many turning points.
In order to write a canon divergence AU for JGY where he comes out unscathed and redeemable, you’d have to go pretty far back in the story, and even then, you’d have to work hard to find a solution to his story that doesn’t a) rely on someone saving him (such as: LXC brings him to Cloud Recesses, or: JGS has a change of heart, frees his mother, and sends them a comfortable monthly pension), b) having him be dependent on someone else’s goodwill (such as: staying in the Unclean Realm in a delicate position).
If we don’t want to go back right to the very beginning or change fundamental parts of the story, well... As I’ve mused about above, if we let him stay in the Unclean Realm, he’d have never reached his goal of security either. If he never became a spy during the Sunshot Campaign, he wouldn’t have been accepted into the Jin clan and would have been out of options. If he never committed the atrocities for JGS, JGS would probably have kicked him out or killed him. (I do think there’s a lot of truth in what JGY tells NMJ in the empathy flashback, on that instance.) If he didn’t kill NMJ, there is a distinct possibility that NMJ would have killed him -- we see him try three times on screen, after all. (I’m leaving out the parts about him being directly responsible for JZX’s and JZX’s death in the show, as well as for controlling the corpses at Nighless City and JYL’s death, because it’s not in the book and I think it takes away from WWX’s character. As for QS’s and their son’s deaths...I personally do not see strong motivation for him to kill them, but in the end, we just don’t know which is, on a side note, a thing I really like about The Untamed/MDZS! Sometimes we just don’t know because the only people who know for sure can’t tell us anymore.) One option could be for him to confide to JZX, bring him over to his own side, and non-violently overthrow JGS, which would be a good and satisfying ending both to his and JZX’s character arcs -- but I also think there’s a high possibility JZX would hold JGY responsible for what he and JGS did, and never trust him with power again.
(Again, one thing I really do not wish to excuse away is how he killed JGS, and I just. Desperately wished he didn’t.)
I’ve been going over and over the possibilites for fix-its and canon divergence AUs, but in the end, I’ve arrived at the conclusion that the only real choice JGY has throughout the story is whether to remove himself from the narrative or stay in it. He could make the choice to give up his mother’s dream, reject his father, and leave cultivation world (and, on a meta level, the story!) to become a “nobody”. (Small side note, though -- living on which skills?) If he doesn’t -- well, as soon as he enters the game, the cards are stacked against him.
To pick up on the meta level comment, I do find it fascinating that in a sense, JGY not only has to struggle for respect and recognition within the story, but that what he does also serves to keep his character part of the story. He could choose to give up and leave (and thus come out of the story redeemable), but then he wouldn’t be part of the story anymore.
3) I like him because he interacts with the story in a unique way
Continuing with the last point, JGY interacts with the story in two unique ways that distinguish him basically from all the other characters. He’s not actually supposed to be part of the story, but that he basically claws his way in. But that also means that his class and social status cannot be removed from any of the conflicts he encounters in universe -- they’re at the heart of all of them. In the empathy flashback, he says to NMJ, “You always scold me for indecent scheming. You always say that you are just and straight [...] A decent man shouldn’t resort to devious stratagems. [...] You’re of noble birth and have profound cultivation. What about me? How can I be the same? First, I don’t have the foundation of cultivation. No one has ever taught me that since I was a child! Second, I don’t have any background. Do you think that my position is very solid in the Jin clan of Lanling?” What I find so intriguing about this scene is that he’s right when he says he’s different from the others both in text and on a meta level because most of the other characters are never faced with the same decisions and have a natural place within the story (apart, to some degree, WWX and XY, where also interesting parallels can be drawn). And the other characters are, in a way, self-righteous to judge him when almost none of them come out of the story without blood on their hands -- WWX’s revenge, JC torturing demonic cultivators after WWX’s death, and so on...The entire cultivation world (even NMJ! even LXC!) were complicit in the war crimes against the Wen. But when the cultivation world turns against JGY, they are the most appalled by the things I as a viewer would be the most lenient towards (murdering JGS), and don’t care at all about the thing that horrifies me the most (murdering the sex workers).
There’s an interesting post by @pumpkinpaix​ analysing how class dynamics work in the story, which I highly recommend! I don’t want to repeat what has been said there already in much better ways than I can, but among other things, it makes some really interesting points about how much JGY’s class is tied with his motivations.
4) I like him because when we see him on top of his game, it’s fun to watch
Aside from any analysis, part of the reason why I like him so much is that when he’s acting as a villain, he’s just so much fun to watch. When WWX breaks into his vault in paperman form and JGY has approximately 5 minutes to get rid of the head, the torture bench (?) and anything suspicious, contact and inform Su She, run to a different building and come back, and nonetheless he manages to convince everyone but WWX and LWJ that he’s the victim in this situation, it’s just. Peak entertainment? For a short time, he’s on top of the game, and then he’s backed into a corner and becomes sloppy, and finally loses it all due to sentimentality (if he didn’t want to take his mother’s body with him and say goodbye to LXC, I’m sure he could have fled the country). I think Zhu Zanjin did an amazing job as an actor to portray how JGY is constantly assessing everything, how 23638 emotions flicker over his face in half a second, how his whole body language shows the constant anxiety and pressure and stress and fear he’s under, and how we actually get to see in his microexpressions when JGY chooses a path and commits to the acting and emotional manipulation to follow it through.
5) I like him because LXC likes him 
Here’s a secret: Actually, LXC is my favourite character. And LXC loves JGY a lot. So I’m kind of contractually obliged to at least love JGY a little bit as well?
On a more serious note, I’m very intrigued in their relationship because I do think what they had was genuine. I view it as two people being very open and honest and true with each other, while placing a lot of things outside the brackets and crossing them out. LXC even says that he was aware of some things JGY did (which ones? how? I need to know) but that he justified them to himself. I think they both realised that they could have had something very special, but under the given circumstances, LXC wouldn’t have been able to help JGY (see: point 2) even if he knew everything. Still, they were obviously very close and trusted each other as much as they could. I think in the end, when LXC seemed to have decided to stay and die with him, JGY pushed him away because he was the only genuinely good part of his life, and he felt like he couldn’t rightfully deprive the world of LXC. It’s all very tragic, and I’m very intrigued to explore what they could have been in a slightly softer world.
6) JGY is very small and has dimples
I can only speak for myself, but when I was watching, I was so prone at any point to believe in him no matter what was revealed. Look at him! Could this man do something wrong?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Veronica’s PTSD symptoms showed themselves slowly and practically isolated from one another, which made the connection very hard to find at first. When she was young, particularly the time directly following Lilly’s death and her own rape, Veronica began to show excessive blame on herself and others, anger, guilt, shame, and a hypervigilance that could mimic paranoia. With the habit of isolating and internalizing near all emotions, it would have been hard for even someone like Keith to pick up on the small changes - specifically the feelings of shame and disgust in herself - which lead to many of these emotions not only bottling up but often overflowing with an outburst that caused more damage than it ever was therapeutic. 
The more prominent PTSD indicators came as Veronica approached adulthood, particularly after leaving Neptune. It came to be that once she found herself in a far less busy life, with a routine of school and a job that didn’t involve any type of investigating, there was more time for her mind to dwell. Mostly, her PTSD presents itself in the form of night terrors and flashbacks that are most frequent when she is over-tired or heavily stressed. A quick trigger for the most intrusive flashback, her encounter with Aaron Echolls, is the strong scent of gasoline. When alone, these episodes can last for quite a while where she is forced to ride them out until she either falls asleep or snaps herself out of them. Logan acts as a security blanket - while his presence doesn’t completely omit traumatic episodes, they’re less frequent and less intense, something he can pull her through after years of dealing with them. In his absence, when Veronica knows she’s in a bad headspace and expects a rise in episodes, she’ll sleep on Keith’s couch just to have someone around. 
Much of Veronica’s hostility and all of her self-destructive behaviors as an adult stems from traumatic past events that have never professionally been dealt with or faced. There’s fear that if she were to sit down and face them, to talk through all that has happened to her, that she’d look small to the world, weak and and tainted just as she often feels. This fear leads to emotional avoidance, something extremely frustrating for her and those that love her, but the internalization and the denial of help, in her mind, mean she’s stronger than she seems and able to handle the world on her own. 
Chronic Depression
While many would pinpoint Lilly’s death as the onset of Veronica’s depression, she’d tell you otherwise. Post-Lilly’s murder, Veronica was engulfed in finding her killer, enraged and sad, but seeking revenge - she didn’t have the time to fall into despair and depression. It was her parent’s divorce and her mother’s sudden abandonment that kick started the mild, chronic depression she carries and suppresses into adulthood. Lianne’s leaving, and failed promise to return for her, was a very sudden indication that what Veronica knew to be true: her family loving and supporting her no matter what, was a sudden lie. Soon came the realization that her own mother chose alcohol and the comfort of a Mars free lifestyle over her own daughter. This is what truly eats away at Veronica’s self-image, coupled with the jarring loss of her best friend and sudden isolation from everyone she found important in her life. In these early stages, her depression showed itself by means of insomnia, unenthusiasm, and isolation. 
While these signs lessened as she regained her footing, particularly after piecing together Lilly’s murder, and another uptick after solving her own rape case, underlying hints always stayed present, albeit quiet for periods of time. While she was able to go longer stretches without depressive episodes, the pitfalls in adulthood could be described as double depressive - in cases when Logan is gone for an extended deployment, and especially when she begins to pick up on her dad’s assumed deterioration, Veronica easily falls back into lows. During these times she suffers from intense restlessness, needing to be busy but finding no enjoyment in things, becomes increasingly irritable and retreats from contact with friends and family. The biggest indicator, however, that she is approaching a depressive drop is her appetite, which will become near non-existent. 
Depression is something Veronica knows well enough she has tangoed with - she aced school as a psychology major and understands what she was taught, but the stubbornness and fierce self-sufficiency that she insists she has ultimately prevents her from seeking help she knows would only benefit her. 
Touch Aversion
Veronica’s aversion to touch is fairly generalized until she’s comfortable with a person, and that person needs to wait for her to allow them in first. This stems anywhere from giving/receiving a hug, a handshake, comforting squeeze of a shoulder. Platonic touch is something she is far more likely to open up to, but physical closeness, cuddling, hugs, kisses on the cheek, or any romantic/sexual/sensual gesture is far less allowed. In particular, she prefers physical distance from men, especially in a setting that she’s not familiar or when she’s alone. She will even go as far as to create a barrier between her and another person, whether it be her desk, a window, anything that maintains distance, which can often be seen as a sign of abrasiveness and hostility. 
This aversion also branches out to those she loves and is comfortable with. Particularly during strong episodes of self-loathing and disgust, or after a flashback or nightmare, touch is incredibly startling unless it’s initiated by her. This isn’t to say she doesn’t show affection - Veronica easily loves up on Logan, Wallace, Nicole, Keith, and Mac, and she’ll even offer a comforting squeeze of someone’s hand, but this is because she’s in control. Learning of Shelly Pomeroy’s party, where both Duncan Kane and Cassidy Casablancas raped her, and Dick Casablancas sexually assaulted her, she felt her autonomy and self-worth violated through touch she never approved of. That night caused a heavy feeling of disgust and guilt, self-blame something she carries well into adulthood, and physical contact is something that she can control that makes sure she’s never violated like that again. 
Stonewalling
Stonewalling, for Veronica, is an out to confrontation she’s not ready for. It’s a tactic used particularly when she’s confronted with her own issues by someone else. While she won’t flat out ignore someone, she will become short in her response and suddenly occupy herself with a mundane task to seem too busy to talk. Veronica has a high fight or flight sense, often turning to fight rather than flight, but in moments when she’s feeling high-level stress, pressure, or attacked by another, stonewalling becomes her flight method, a removal from the conversation at hand. This can lead to a ton of frustration for whoever is on the other end. She grows dismissive and combative, at times letting the situation escalate to her physically removing herself. 
Unfortunately, it’s Logan who is typically on the receiving end of this behavior, exemplified nearly any time he approaches her about therapy, and in instances when he proposed marriage knowing it was off the table for her. Ideally, physically stopping her from busying herself, and choosing words that aren’t combative or belittling is how someone can reel her back in, but few get the chance as Veronica’s temper is hot and quick.

Imitation is NOT the Sincerest Form of Flattery:
When I first started out designing custom couture costumes, there was a brief moment of temptation to imitate those I viewed as “successful.” Thankfully, my integrity guided me to find my own artistic expression. But, I get it. You see an artist’s work all over the internet and hear about how busy their commission calendar is and you covet their success.
In the desire to reach another’s “presumptuous” pinnacle and enjoy a FULL commission schedule, it’s tempting to copy from them. But patience, practice, and perseverance are the necessary companions of success in this business, and success isn’t necessarily reflected by dollar signs. 
This post is motivated by a recent incident involving a client that contacted me about a commission, but it’s much more far reaching than that. In this instance, he had three pictures of men’s 16th Century noble costumes that he presented me. This is a usual and customary step in my consultation process, as it gives me an idea where their tastes lie, and guides me in sketching out a concept I feel encapsulates their favorite features. As I worked to draw out more information from this client, to include his preference in color and textiles, he was rather vague. He’d referenced one of my original designs in his original message when he contacted me, then supplied me with three pictures - but wasn’t specific about the overall design points he liked; other than to state when I offered him samples of historical styles that he did NOT want “poufy” pants. Translation: short paned slops. He wanted royal blue, and had picked out a brocade from my Pinterest board.
Feeling confident that I was heading in the right direction - based on his expressed likes and dislikes - I sketched out my concept using my “historically accurate” model I have developed in the cut of my clothing, and worked up a design board complete with samples of the fabric in the colors he requested. After expending many, MANY hours (once again) in consultation that spanned a couple of weeks, he replied back with one of the pictures he had sent me previously, describing in detail what he liked about it, and asked me - in no uncertain terms - if I would “copy” that ensemble. Copy? As in reproduce the exact garment? - with the exception of different textiles of course. 
My reply?  I politely informed him that I felt it was unethical to copy another artist’s designs. I offered him something of my own design collection, but stated that ethically I wasn’t willing to copy another artist - even though I would be using different textiles. Call me crazy, but that’s just not something I will do! Not even at the risk of losing a commission - which I did!! 
Look, when you approach a designer - who has already established themselves and has developed their own design “aesthetic,” to be shown a garment that isn’t yours, or isn’t remotely historically accurate, and ask them to “copy” it, feels like a slap in the face. You obviously thought enough of that designer’s work to contact them? - Right? What’s more disconcerting is that the dude canceled the project because I refused to plagiarize another’s work! Okay, so is it pride on my part? - or Ego that they want you to replicate someone else’s work rather than yours? Yeah, I suppose my reaction could be labeled thus. But what drives me in these situations is my integrity. The garment is all over Pinterest. It’s nice work. The cut isn’t historical, but it’s recognizable, ya’ll!
But more than anything this situation begs the question: “Why contact an artist whose style and quality of work is already established and then request they  copy someone else’s work? This situation hearkens me back to my “Nicole” experience and my advice about not accepting a commission simply for the money. Sometimes fate steps in and works it out for you - as in this situation. But other times you will need to be perceptive enough to know the warning signs and exit stage left.
So, if I haven’t already established my position, let me clarify:
I WILL NOT copy another designer’s work. Period. End of discussion. 
Draw inspiration from? Yes. Copy it exactly? Absolutely NOT!  
I will put my own spin to it, but I’m not going to replicate it. I feel as an artist copying another’s work is a cop out! In essence, what you’re saying is that “I don’t have my own vision, or the confidence to create my own aesthetic, so I want to ride on the coattails of someone else’s hard work and investment of time.” You gotta do the work, ya’ll. Pay your dues, so to speak. As the artist who’s being copied, it’s infuriating, and it’s just WRONG. 
In all sincerity, I am happy if my work is so well received that someone would like to draw inspiration from it, but I would be highly upset if someone were to purchase the same embroidery patterns and replicate my work - and sell it! I’ve actually had a similar situation occur with someone I have a long-standing working relationship with and who I respect as an artist in their own right.They replicated one of my skirt and forepart designs to market their embroidery patterns rather than just seeking my permission to use pictures of mine. Thankfully, they took the high road and honored my request to take down the picture of my “jocked style.”- And I am SO appreciative of that!  I’ve had other experiences that did NOT end so amicably. In that particular instance, I had loaned my prototype for an Elizabethan headdresses inspired by “The Tudors” to a fellow guild member. I have the copyrights to my pattern. I had scoured the internet for a pattern, but after several years decided to just draft my own. I worked on it on and off for two damn years before finally perfecting my pattern. I had, at one time, considered selling my patterns, but decided against it. This “person” took my prototype home with the intention of wearing it to an upcoming event, but then showed up wearing a COPY of my headdress!  When I saw the pictures, I freaked!! I contacted her in a snit and asked her what the hell she thought she was doing copying my pattern and informed her that it was copyrighted. She replied that she liked my headdress so much she wanted one. My translation: I didn’t want to pay for one of yours, so I stole your pattern. What was I supposed to do? - Act a fool and rip it off her head and stomp on it? I chose to let it go with the stern warning that if I suddenly saw replicas of my work floating around she and I would be meeting in person in less than amicable terms. 
It’s bad enough that artists have to deal with unscrupulous hacks overseas who steal pictures of our work and use it to dupe naive customers into a sale - - Only for that customer to receive a hideously styled and cheaply made knock off that doesn’t look remotely similar. What sucks is that YOUR work, in that situation, is now forever connected to a scam! 
To artists or costumers seeking to parlay their passion into a small business, I have this to say:  BE ORIGINAL people!  Develop your own aesthetic, rather than mimic someone else’s work. It’s what will set you apart from the thousands of costumers out there who have the same goal. With the exception of COSPLAY don’t copy another’s work!! 
You gotta find your niche and market it.
My business model has been to scour the internet and find items that no one else is offering, or offer something similar in an elevated version. Look, historical clothes are similar in their cut and pattern, so it takes some creativity and inspiration to find a unique spin to these typical garments - especially if you’re using commercial patterns. There is only so much one can do using textiles and trims, as so much of what you see out there is similar. However, I built my business model on quality construction and customer service. It isn’t my fellow costumers out here in the real world from which I draw my inspiration, but rather extant garments and those in the theater and film industry who actually get it right! 
From the beginning, as I honed my abilities, I strove to create pieces that matched the quality of those seen by professionals in the film industry and by pieces owned by museums..I create my own textiles using historically based embroidery, in an effort to create my own aesthetic. Because so many costumers are using the same patterns and accessing the same vendors for textiles, there will be similarities you see out there. But to intentionally copy another artist’s work sticks in my craw. Maybe my work ethic is indicative of my generation, I don’t know. But I will stand by my ethics in this regard and sleep better knowing that if nothing else, I’m original.

rewatching one day at a time s3
or how i looked beyond the surface and found hope
so i watched the new season all at once, right after it arrived on netflix, and i was really confused by the way the show’s text seemed to be trying to take penelope and schneider from bffs with a hint of future romantic potential to bffs who are practically siblings...while simultaneously creating the most blatant subtext and romantic parallels. it made me feel crazy, like i couldn’t tell how much was my alvareider-shipping heart projecting, or how much was sheer coincidence when it shouldn’t be possible for one season to have so. many. coincidences. 
for the record, a lot of this endless essay has already been mentioned by other awesome people. i just needed to piece it all together and dive into the details myself, now that i’m watching it for the second time and rethinking everything. 
or specifically, three things: the sibling emphasis, the parallels, and the body language. 
1.
that ‘schneider’s part of the family now and so he and penelope are related’ emphasis that freaked me out? it comes from three moments, and all of those originate from schneider. he refers to penelope as his ‘much older sister’ when he’s having an emotional moment with leslie and joking his way through it, he refers to lydia as their shared mom when he defends her to penelope after lydia teaches him to cook, and he calls penelope ‘sis’ when he’s sending her soothing text messages. 
in the first instance, penelope’s not there to have an opinion, and there’s no real reason for schneider to have even brought her up in the conversation about him and leslie. either he has her in his head even when she’s not around, he’s feeling especially defensive about her place in his life, or both. you could easily make the case that he’s protesting too much, that he’s slotted her into the sibling space in his head and is fighting the fact that she’s not staying where he put her, as though mentioning it randomly to other people will make it true. 
and in the second instance, penelope is there, and she doesn’t agree with him. in fact she’s annoyed at lydia treating him like a son. s3 involves a lot of tension when it comes to penelope and schneider’s place in her family, for that matter--more than in s2. in the s2 opening, elena reminds schneider that he’s not part of their family, and he protests her ‘joke’ as though it’s a given that he is. in 3x03, schneider refers to himself as a DILF, and it’s penelope who argues that he’s not a dad. he doesn’t protest at all, even though he’s the one who clearly thinks of himself that way or he wouldn’t have said it. instead, in response to her additional jab that he’s also not sexworthy, he replies immediately that he understands and will help her get the guy she does like. 
a few episodes later, schneider tells alex that penelope is increasingly relying on him as a ‘co-parent,’ making it clear that he either believes that is his role, despite what penelope says...or that he just really wishes it were true instead of her keeping him at a distance. after all, he fills in with her kids in a parental role a lot, and nobody ever has any sort of protest about what it means except her (and their absentee father). 
in the third instance he’s talking privately to penelope, and in the aftermath of a panic attack she’s got other things to care about so she doesn’t react to that at all. but her lack of reaction makes it seem like he may have called her ‘sis’ before, probably a lot in their frequent messaging, and the fact that he’s doing it via text makes it seem way more likely that he’s using it as slang, not acting his age. which is to say that there’s a really high probability that he means it in a close friend way rather than literally.
because this season is nothing but ups and downs, from friends who are family to a growing distance again, after that is when the worst moment between them in canon so far hits. during the condo argument, penelope doesn’t just insult him personally, like she did in s2 when she was off her meds. before kicking him out, the first time she ever has out of anger, penelope tells him that no matter how hard he tries to be part of her family, he still isn’t. that he can’t be, not really. unlike in s2, when he holds his feelings back and retreats voluntarily, during this fight schneider tries to argue. he pushes back, visibly upset, but leaves when she insists. once again, penelope’s the only alvarez who feels the need to set him apart from being a full member of her family in s3. alex and lydia openly adopt him, and even elena tells him she loves him, that they all do, after he relapses.
the interesting contrast between penelope and schneider is that never, not even when they’re clearly closer in s3, does penelope say anything remotely similar to ‘schneider’s like my brother!’ on the contrary, penelope’s the only one of the two of them who’s admitted that there’s attraction between them. 
schneider offered to have sex with her early on, because for him casual sex fell within the boundaries of what’s allowed between friends. and while he compliments her often, it’s always in a very matter of fact, not suggestive way. he sees her as gorgeous and sexy and talented and nurturing and assumes she knows those things are true, too, so he can mention them to her without penelope thinking he’s hitting on her. he also maintains the boundaries between them faithfully, physically affectionate with her but always following her lead, taking it slow with hugs or letting her reach out first.
it’s schneider who emphasizes the way that penelope is family to him, because her whole family is family to him...and he worked hard to make that true. it’s the most important thing in his life. never is that clearer than in s3, when he tells lydia that being accepted by them makes him even prouder than his sobriety. and conversely, when he thinks he’s losing them, because penelope kicks him out and swears he can never really belong, that’s when it seems he has his first drink in eight years. being a part of penelope’s family is so important to him that risking it is a bigger stressor than even his father; it’s no wonder he has to see penelope as family first and as far from romantically or sexually available as possible. by s3 he’s too invested to be open to anything else.
2. 
the parallels in s3 start early. both penelope and schneider embark on tentative new relationships in 3x03 with people who are a lot like them. while penelope’s hesitant to date mateo until he shows his strength, schneider falls before even finding out how similar to him avery truly is. imo the similarities are the point, and they both need to learn things from their s3 relationships that they never have before. 
penelope’s two previous big relationships ended over irreconcilable differences: victor wasn’t safe and max had different dreams. in mateo, she finds someone she’s got a lot in common with, all the same values, and no major breaking points. but even though that’s so different from her last two almost-happy endings, it’s not enough. she tries to talk herself into being attracted to and caring about him, but their friendship is really all that’s there.
schneider has actually never had a big relationship before: he had a toxic, sporadic affair with nikki that he kept falling into, but nothing serious and involving real effort. avery came along, uncomplicated and from his world and they clicked, and it was new for him. the fact that he couldn’t bounce back when it ended makes sense--she was his first loving, reciprocated relationship. the fact that he wanted nothing but to make it work when they got a second chance also makes sense, and is a good thing...it was absolutely his time to learn how to make a relationship work and to realize he’s worth loving. but because they don’t have that trusting foundation and possibly because avery’s background was as pampered as his, they broke really easily under the strain of his relapse, and i’m not sure that bodes well for them the next time things get rough. 
the truth is, schneider’s right when he tells penelope that she’s the only one who ever completely trusted him while knowing exactly who he is. that’s why she’s the one who stays when he starts drinking again, and insists on being there through his recovery. penelope promises him she’s not going anywhere, because their history and foundation can survive more. when you remember her history with victor, and the way she pushed him away when it became clear that he wasn’t sober, it’s even more powerful that she’s firm with schneider but never considers trying to banish him from her life or her family. she trusts that he will try again, unlike her own husband. she pulls him closer, literally, instead.
and of course, it’s not just their new significant others that bring sharp parallels in s3: it’s other people’s partners too! and their own relatives! and their friends!
bringing victor back doesn’t just give elena the closure she needs and deserves; it also offers up two of the most important moments that seem to be pointing giant neon arrows at foreshadowing for alvareider. first, nicole tells a jealous penelope about how she knows victor is the one for her...and it makes penelope realize that she doesn’t wish victor were with her--she just wishes that mateo were that guy in her own life. but he isn’t, and she goes to dump him, and it’s hard to ignore the fact that every attribute in nicole’s speech exists in the way has schneider treated penelope for the last three years.
additionally, alex toasts victor at his wedding with a speech that could easily apply to schneider after he relapses, talking about how he found love as a result of getting his life back together. in a season that so heavily focuses on schneider’s journey, it’s impossible not to want the same for him.
when schneider faces his father for the last time and finally stands up to him, performing the same kind of toughness that penelope needed to see in mateo before she could consider him more than a friend...her reaction is even more intense than it was with mateo. she’s amazed and happy for him and really excited. she’s so stunned she doesn’t even notice that he’s not quite himself.
after penelope realizes he is in fact drinking again, her first attempt to get through to him doesn’t work and he escapes his own apartment. but it’s telling that when he starts to get defensive and upset, she explains by saying she ‘went through this with victor.’ no qualifiers, no acknowledgement that it was different dealing with victor because that was her husband and schneider’s just a guy she’s friends with. instead, a simple comparison between watching the father of her children, the man she loved, struggle and get worse and then seeing it happen to schneider.
and in the most obvious, pointed parallel of them all, when penelope is still dating mateo and discussing her anxiety in her support group, pam points out that she doesn’t seem to lean on mateo when she needs help with it. her immediate response to that is that when she does lean on anyone, it’s schneider. 
3.
there’s a lot more physical contact between penelope and schneider this season. just, so much more. and even more importantly, the nature of it is different.
their first hug happens early on, when penelope is worried about alex and schneider reassures her. he hugs her from the side, and it’s pretty identical to the times when he did in s2: just his arm around her, close but not too close, friendly and sweet. 
their second hug is in response to one of her anxiety attacks, after he helps calm her down. he hugs her like always, but then penelope turns her face further into his chest and reaches out for him. she reaches her hand out to his free arm, hesitates, then makes contact and holds on, while he wraps that hand around her in return, holding her tighter. it’s the first time we’ve seen her cross that tiny but distinctive line, compared to their s2 hug when she admits he’s her best friend...in that scene she reaches across him similarly, as though she wants to grip onto his shirt while he’s hugging her, but she stops herself and pulls back. 
after the worst fight they’ve ever had in their relationship so far? penelope reassures him that they’ll be okay, and then reaches for his hand while she tells him she likes him just as he is. schneider goes from letting her hand curl around his to gripping back in the next shot, just...holding hands with her while she’s nicer to him than she’s ever been in three years. and then he doesn’t just hug her. they hug each other, turning inwards for a full hug rather than the arm-around-her-shoulder that was schneider’s default the year before. they’re holding on to each other when schneider’s father comes out, and schneider keeps his hand on her shoulder for a moment even after they let go. 
once his father leaves, she thanks him emotionally for the choice he made, and dives into another hug. standing up, it’s them hugging each other again, chest to chest the way they never were in s2 even during lydia’s coma.
and once schneider’s drinking has come out and penelope has confronted him without anyone else around, where she can be painfully honest and so can he...she rubs his back and then keeps her hand there; she strokes the nape of his neck and then holds on; she shifts when he leans into her for a hug so that he can rest against her fully, and she keeps him there. it’s the first time we see penelope offering schneider support and comfort that way (and it’s exactly what i’ve wanted since s2 when he continued to do so for her all the time). 
off the top of my currently sleep-deprived brain, i remember two hugs between them in s1, if you include the whole family on the dance floor--which i do because of the way schneider rests his cheek against penelope’s head. and there are three between them in s2, two that happen in the same “hello penelope” scene. 
so even before you add in the handholding and back and neck rubbing things that never happened before, s3 has more physical affection between penelope and schneider than the previous two combined. 
either they’ve become super hands-on platonic friends since the previous year without feeling the need to address it, the actors are so comfortable with each other that they brought that into their roles more than was intended and the showrunners for some reason just went with it...or all those small monumental acting choices are meant to add up and continue deepening their relationship in ways that could lead somewhere else someday. 
in that light, it’s really not any crazier to think the show’s heading toward romance than it is to insist that actually the past two seasons were never meant to pack such a punch and they’re just like siblings now. since the mixed signals don’t make much sense in s3 for a show that’s usually so carefully crafted, i choose to believe they know what they’re doing...and if that’s true, then all the parallels and intense intimacy and more complex interactions around schneider being family are there on purpose.
tl;dr penelope and schneider are soulmates and if odaat is determined to make sure that’s not true the show itself can fight me because i’m right
