Thinking of Hephaestus’s angry speech against Ares and Aphrodite in the Odyssey

Specifically about how he claims the Aphrodite cheated bc of his disability, now one could dismiss this as him just being dramatic and trying to rationalize why his wife would treat him this way. But at the same time… we know how violently ableist Ancient Greece was, we know how ableist the Greek gods are, not just with Hera throwing Hephaestus as a baby for being lame but also the gods laughing at him bc of his limp in Iliad book 1 (it’s not specified which gods specifically tho):

Or Zeus straight us saying he’s disgusted by his limping (he also mentions how he’s covered in soot but he mentions the limping first) in Lucian’s Dialogue of the Gods:

Hephaestus obviously has a lot of internalized ableism but if what he says about Aphrodite is true… then that’s just more evidence that she was the one in the wrong imo.

The scene of Kaufmo getting put in the cellar is so interesting to me for a lot of reasons, but especially because of Jax’s body language during it.

For some reason I’ve not seen a lot of people talking about it (maybe I’m just blind and missed the posts) but he looks pissed about it. There’s a few times in the pilot we might get a hint at some of his real emotions but that scene is definitely the one that stands out to me.

Look at the way he clenches his fists and looks to the side and is breathing hard before forcing himself to look relaxed again. Those were some deliberate choices made by Glitch and Goose and I am eating that shit up lemme tell you

This is from a twitch clip from Jonny’s streams! I don’t have the link at the moment, but someone asked him quite a while ago about the joke/discourse (brief pause as I am overcome with the specters of discourse past) regarding Jonny d’Ville being homophobic, based on the line in one of the fictions where he asks if Nastya is having one of her “queer orgies.”

Jonny said that he didn’t write that story, so he can’t say for sure what was intended with the line in question, but that d’Ville is, in his mind, omnisexual, and not homophobic. This makes it word-of-god canon, which of course depending on your approach to the text (the text in this case being the albums, fictions, social media posts, and other in-character, official sources) may or may not count as canon in the way that, say, Brookes from Pump Shanty (Bashful) being mlm does. But that’s where it comes from!

Would love to know what other people think but I’m really intrigued by the emphasis Square Enix are putting on Vincent’s connection with Sephiroth, and what that’s going to mean for the remake going forward.

Because to me, in the original it wasn’t Sephiroth that Vincent had a connection to - it was Lucretia and Hojo. If he met Sephiroth, he would’ve been a baby at BEST, and that’s if he even met him at all, which I personally don’t think he did (I’m remembering off of the top of my head here, please correct me if I’m wrong!). I’m not going to say if it’s a bad thing yet or not, because the series is unfinished, but I’m intrigued.

I expected things with Vincent to be different in the remake. He was an optional character in the original FF7 - like Yuffie you could miss him entirely (I think, again remembering off of the top of my head) - and so that means the game would have to function without him, meaning he didn’t have any plot-altering storylines. Ultimately, that’s why I think we got Dirge of Cerberus, aside from financial reasons of course. Now that he’s a mandatory member of the main party, I think there’s more that they can do with him.

Ultimately I think they’re going to work in some of the Dirge of Cerberus stuff in, maybe new things too (perhaps a little bit about his life as a Turk?), but I’m really intrigued to find out what relationship he’s got with Sephiroth, because I really think they’re implying something more than a passing encounter…
