something i feel responders to pjo criticisms are not getting is book accuracy is important.

rick riordan created this project to be a book accurate adaptation on the screen. it doesn’t matter if annabeth is white and blonde, those people who are mad about that are wrong and their “criticisms” should be just thrown out. no, i’m talking real criticism. because being upset a series whose reason for existing is to be a faithful adaptation isn’t? not stupid. if you can enjoy the series—in my opinion not all the changes are objectively bad, but many, from a storytelling angle? from pure craftsmanship? are objectively bad—regardless, i’m happy for you. truly, if you feel the joy and magic the original series gave me while watching this show, i am overjoyed someone feels the magic. that’s more magical to me, worth more, than the show itself. but if you then insult me for not enjoying the show? tell me i must not love the story as much as you? tell me i am simply looking to hate the newest next thing, and not that i adore this series so much it pains me to see it so? that i don’t wish to see it succeed regardless of the betrayal i feel?

I mean it when I say that they’re literally the sole reason I watched this show in the first place. I saw a billion TikTok edits of them & was like “Idek these characters I need to watch this show and see what’s going on over there.”

And like, it’s a fun show, I’m not saying it isn’t, but first responder shows are a dime a dozen. There are other shows that have queer characters and found family and wild adventures. Granted, they don’t have Buck & his bi arc, but I’d still read fanfics to get my Evan Buckley fix lol.

I’m…… I can’t do this. Bellhop aof offers day assistance and mhok just swoops right in and takes day’s arm like the good old days as tho nothing ever happened much less they broke up THREE YEARS AGO and haven’t spoken since???? ? ? I was hoping u guys were exaggerating at least a little when u said mhok goes back to flirting as soon as he sees day again but u were absolutely right. This is so ridiculous. Mhok still AFTER ALL THIS TIME and everything day put him thru has debilitating day brainrot I KNOW he is Simp Supreme but I was holding out SO MUCH HOPE that there was a LITTLE more to him than that……. Like his main character trait is Heart Full of Love which is wonderful but the way the show has laser focused that love on day to his personal detriment (unwilling if not unable to prioritize himself under any circumstances) and to the detriment of mhok as a character having any substance (spineless pushover who will forgive day’s egregious treatment faster than the speed of light literally as soon as he sees his face because DAY!!!!) GOD mhok was already (before this point) a compelling character despite being so poorly fleshed out and he CARRIED the show and their relationship like he’s gonna need physical therapy after all the heavy lifting he was doing these past 11 episodes, he was the catalyst for ALL of day’s growth. Without mhok day would still be rotting in his bedroom. Would it have killed them to cut some of the unnecessary mini arcs (eh hem AUGUST, the eye donation, his mom’s bullshit, the night forgiveness arc was definitely necessary but proooobably did not need to be dragged out quite that long) in order to give mhok SOMETHING!!!! Literally anything at all. It’s like the writers as well as day only cared about him as long as he served their purpose. They gave him ZERO purpose outside of day. The ONE SINGLE TIME he pushed thru and made anything about himself we all saw what happened. It’s like they punished him for trying to be his own person!!!! The writers seemingly don’t give a FUCK about mhok outside of his relation to day. That’s probably the worst part about this mess to me. Day’s regression/severe late stage mischaracterization sucked but at least he grew at all and had characterization to get wrong lmao. Mhok was a pawn and they used him and gave him NOTHING in exchange for his crucial role in the progression of the story. ~Ohhhhh, a job abroad that he literally didn’t want~ that doesn’t COUNT!!! He gave and GAVE and everyone including the writers of the damn show did nothing but TAKE from him. Everything good he ever had. Stephen makes my heart ache and my stomach hurt istg and I mean that just because I love him to death but I wish they would touch on him more.

In season two when he’s standing in the middle of the road and pacing, they never really touch on it. He’s relapsed and they know it- but it’s back to normal. That scene was supposed to mean ‘if he doesn’t stop using, it’s going to kill him.’

He’s back in that car with her, smoking cigarettes as if he’s not giving up on everything he ever belived in. Gil, his sobriety- shit, even his vegetarian bull shit (even when we all know he never really followed it carefully enough anyways). The look on his face when Sarah asks if he’s eating meat again. The look of ‘it doesn’t really matter anymore, does it?’ How quick he was to give it up.

‘Is that what you think I need?’ He yells, even when hours later he’d be shaking and pacing in oncoming traffic on weary feet as Alice hurriedly called Linden to help him- to save him, almost as if she could tell what she had ment to him, even if they had only been together a tiny amount of time. Around ten days.

Please, let him be vulnerable. Let him be shaky and paranoid and sad.

Honestly, considering the show/writers never acknowledged Daphne’s marital rape of her husband, and they only had a slight acknowledgment of Edwina’s feelings on Kate x Anthony, like I don’t think there will be a satisfactory resolution to Pen’s betrayal of the Bridgertons (Marina/Colin and Eloise/Theo) or of Eloise’s “friendship” with Cressida (and anything else she might do as “revenge”).

I think they’ll blow over the latter “I said I’d rather die than be her friend and I still mean it” and hugs all around or some other scene like that (which I know is simple and that’s my point). And Pen will apologize and confess that cause she’s so in love with Colin and she wanted to be noticed and she’ll be forgiven without much else from Colin. And maybe a little more for Eloise, if that.

(Spoiler’s for the books in case people care about that).

They forgive her for Whistledown in the books, Colin is worried more about her being revealed as Whistledown than her writing shit about him (tho nothing she writes is like Marina/Colin is not in the books. Daphne basically forgives her for anything she wrote about that but tbh she doesn’t seem to mind anyway). And, they like sorta acknowledge it as “wtf” thing, but it’s blown over quickly imo. “Oh well that’s nice dear” sorta reaction. And Eloise does have even more of a backbone than in the books but idk I just don’t see why and what people seem to want out of Bridgerton.

Eloise is going to somehow befriend and fall in love with Crane! You’re telling me the girl running around with Theo and “radicals” will suddenly fall for the guy boring the fuck out of Marina?

Like, I’m sorry but Bridgerton is pretty people hooking up with a regency background. They will not “do right” by most people’s standards of how the characters should act and how to apologize (Daphne and Simon make up after professing deep love in the rain! Anthony is shocked into confessing for real cause Kate fell of a horse! It’s for DRAMA, and then it’s resolved kinda easily?)

I’ve seen some more of nuanced takes against Pen, at least these people aren’t reducing her to a fat villain (cause when they did that I could not take them seriously 😒). And honestly a lot of it is fair, that’s good! The writers don’t care.

But now I keep seeing people hating Eloise to the point that they want a comeuppance that is not proportional to her “revenge”…and like… it won’t be as serious as y’all are making it to be. This “revenge”. Like please, the writers aren’t going to suddenly take this world seriously. See above and those are just 1 example for each season!

If they wanted to acknowledge all the hurt Pen put people through and make her work to become a better person, they could! I just don’t think they will because it’s 8 episodes per season and in this season they’re trying to find a way to get Colin and Pen together and Eloise and Pen as friends again by end of season. I don’t think they’ll extend a conflict into Ben’s season (I actually hope they don’t, I like Ben and Sophie’s story for the most part and while I love Anthony and Kate they shouldn’t be the focus either).

Idk what people expect I guess. if you’re watching it for Pen to be taken down a notch… might not be the season for you. If you’re hate watching I guess tag it with “anti” whatever and not the regular tags?

I’m sorry if you think she does not deserve an happy ending, I don’t necessarily disagree that she’s undeserving of some crow eating for what she’s done. However, I don’t think the writers care to make her go through that. And I don’t watch Bridgerton for brilliant character development that I think some of y’all want.

That being said I’m curious about how they’ll manage LW post Colin x Penelope marriage. In the books it basically disappears, and maybe they can use that to have a build up to Pen! However that means to me making their relationship last longer than as season and I do not want that for any of the couples.

Maybe if they had like a few episodes where during a case that was a child abuse / neglect incident and the fact that him and Daisy were expecting a child could have reopen some of those old wounds that have to do with his own abuse. Maybe he reevaluates what he wants to do and instead quites the FBI and goes around helping other foster children or becomes an educator/advisor for social services workers or smth.

Okay, I was just looking at the article about the live action PPG series getting cancelled, and I guess I missed this specific quote from a while ago:

I wouldn’t call any of what I saw “campy.” I think that’s completely the wrong word. I think, from what we saw from all of those live action leaked photos is that it looked cheap. The script wasn’t “campy,” it was… trashy. Camp at least has charm, and it had very little of that. And how out of touch do you have to be to say that a superhero television show isn’t rooted in reality. Of course it isn’t rooted in reality! They have superpowers and fly around and fight supervillains! None of that is based on reality!

Part of me is kind of bummed out that they weren’t able to fix things because I was genuinely interested in where they could’ve gone after attempting to fix that general abomination of a script. Then again, maybe the idea of a grown-up Powerpuff Girls series is something better left for the world of fanfiction than made into any official production.
