been rewatching the nirvanai trailers a noticed a few things which is fun and made some theories
-in the story trailer the small flashes to what look like old videos look similar to the hiddenbat videos in terms of both the style they use and feel
-ryuki says "i cant forget about what I did" so maybe murder?????
-yoooooo we get a mention of bats490 and the bats motif
-that purple haired woman (Tukiko it seems) may be a part of the nirvana initiative, which kinda seems to be the thing happening in the arg
-she also might be related to Boss due to similar voice (or they just used the same va for the trailers) and also general look
-APPARENTLY HER LAST NAME CAN BE READ AS A WORDPLAY OF 490 SO ALMOST CERTAINLY CONNECTED TO THE HIDDENBATS ACCOUNT IF NOT THE RUNNER
-tiny theory: it finds people who have committed crimes and gotten away with it and who have like a thing for the morphogenetic field and after a whole time period of breaking them down blackmails them to join or else they'll go to the police
-ryuki also may be a part of it cause of the "NO MERCYYYY" thing
-more of the bats490 video
-and also a dude watching it. my second thought is that it's like a viral video (my first was "watch it and in nine days you'll die")
-so somebody, likely mizuki, is supposed to help ryuki by dispelling his hallucinations. interesting
-imagine if the "terrible terrible terrible terrible that guy can just die" is referring to binato lmao
-"your best friend and your family is about to die but you can only save one" what if this has to do with the thing of aine's and binato's fates? like a choice like we might have to do
-wait another mention of that guy who might've said he'd fix everything for ryuki. how... interesting
-looked back at the sunaiku website and noticed one of the first posts mentions finding somebody. my first thought is that its ryuki. i know it says that their family was contacted butttttt do we reallyyyy trust sunaiku, especially since they might be connected to naix? plus ryuki being found in the mountains does tbh sound like something that'd happen to a protag
-okay so somebody said this on twitter and I'm running with it? What if A (who I still think is ryuki) and the victim, Jin, were part of a balance game??? And Jin lost. So he was split into two, a balance. with one half of his body being found in different times, maybe two different timelines. and binato's death message merely said he was sent off this world. i know mizuki remembers the bodies which does help disprove this theory but potentially the truth has an inkling of this theory, like half of Jin's body had been briefly in a different timeline where time moves a lot slower than ours
-WAIT A SECOND IN THE ARG WE HAVE A MESSAGE ON THE SUNAIKU SITE WHEN YOU INPUT ONE OF THE CODES MENTIONING IF YOU KEEP FINDING THE PROOFS OF PROOFS YOULL EVENTUALLY HIT A WALL OR SOMETHING AND ANOTHER MESSAGES ASKS IF EVERYBODY ELSE IS JUST AN NPC AND THE TRAILER TALKS ABOUT FINDING THE TRUTH OF THE WORLD AND IT STARTS WITH THE NIRVANA INITIATIVE AKA FINDING PROOFS OF PROOFS
-somebody on twitter already pointed this out but binato was totally screwing around with the sunaiku's ceo's wife considering the wife of a CEO was mentioned in his burner account
-also the ceo going missing probably means he did some sort of crime and is going through a similar situation to aine and binato
-unlikely theory: that man that ryuki refers to is the ceo
-the unknown assailant in the trailers might be kizuna (mainly basing this off of the assailant's colour scheme)
-my theory is that the victim in nirvanai that's first found committed a crime, likely murder and got punished for it and due to the morphogenetic field or some shit, half of his body showed up six years later
-or he has a twin or a doppelganger or something that also got cut in half and showed up
-they better have a big dance number at the end I mean they have amalee voicing a character and she has good singing it'd be like have jonathan groff in the first frozen movie and never using him for singing again
-another theory: shoma the sixth grader is A

Probably said this before but...
I think Daisuke is a character who closely fits Sonic’s principles -- and how both are not even that close to “hot-blooded shounen hero” archetype...
This explains why my headcanon is that Daisuke likes Sonic. He sees himself in this blue hero, enjoys running in the wind appreciating the view. He would travel through the world if he could-- oh.
What did you say? He can do that now!? Yeah thanks Miyako for exploiting the digital gate so we could finally get Daisuke doing worldwide trips for ramen research!
But anyway, Sonic’s principles are important -- he’s a hero with a strong sense of justice and fairness. He’s charismatic which makes people love and befriend him (except the ones who’re against him of course), has a good sense of humor, and never abandons anyone.
Those fits Daisuke -- err kinda of. Daisuke is purehearted, friendly to people who don’t present a threat/shady aura, wouldn’t abandon anyone... Might not be that charismatic for some people but i think he got some charm. And he’s a hero of justice which does what he thinks is right but can change his views if presented new evidence. Ah and pretty funny and adorable.
Their differences is mostly... Sonic detest to be under people’s orders! He likes to run free and go wherever he wants to. However, Daisuke is pretty much tameable, a good chunk of people in 02/Kizuna get control over him and his actions -- especially Hikari, who can manipulate him just by knowing his crush on her... and how Daisuke seems to think he’s doing a great job by hiding said crush.
Sonic also does not know to swim. Daisuke apparently does (Natsu e no Tobira/Door to the Summer)
Lighdramon is fast! And we see Daisuke tends to prefer riding on him most of the times in 02 (since he got the Digimental of Friendship) and has some... uh... problem with heights... Though later in the series he’s getting pretty much used to fly on XV-mon...
Anyway, that’s all.

Sleepy Naofumi HCs - TheRuFumi ❤
Inspired by this post by Scar-Queen-Owl.
I also made a Drawing of Sleepy Fumi here! Please check it out!
(A little background info: This is kind of a modern AU, where the Four Heroes + Rishia and Myne, and L'Arc, Therese, Glass, Kizuna all live in one large 'dorm'-like building with 2 people per dorm and on shared large kitchen and living room, and the 'dorms' area is on the second floor.)
- The first time mostly everyone sees sleepy Naofumi, it's a week after they moved into the 'dorms' together. Everyone knows Naofumi, L'Arc, and Therese are dating. - None of them can understand him as he stumbles down the stairs to the shared kitchen-living room area. He's mumbling to himself while holding his favorite green blanket close around his shoulders and stumbling a bit around, eyes drooping as he looks around. - It's just so fucking CUTE
- Naofumi just stands there by the stairs, looking around tiredly until L'Arc stumbles down the stairs a couple of seconds later - L'Arc obviously knows what's going on with Naofumi since they'd lived together with Therese before. - but no one expects Naofumi to just, go over and plop into L'Arc's embrace, soaking up the redhead's warmth - L'Arc doesn't seem to mind, and just scoops Naofumi up, letting Naofumi hang onto him like a damn adorable koala - L'Arc then goes on with his morning routine, going over to fix himself and Naofumi some coffee and finding the cereal. - The next morning, L'Arc is already awake, together with the other guys and Kizuna, and they watch silently as Naofumi stumbles in again, plopping onto L'Arc's shoulder. - After they all finish breakfast, Therese tugs Naofumi up to his and L'Arc's room to wake him up properly and get him some clothes. - L'Arc explains that Naofumi is just like that in the mornings; cuddly as hell with those he's close with. But, with people he doesn't want close, he starts grumbling or frowning a lot.
- A couple of days later, Naofumi can't find L'Arc, who had to leave early, so he just falls onto the couch with his blanket close, and just curls up there. - When Therese finally gets down, she goes over behind Naofumi, ruffling his hair and giving him a kiss before going over to get him some coffee and make herself some tea - Naofumi, after Therese ruffles his hair, gets up from the couch and goes over to follow Therese around like a puppy, - He just puts his head on her shoulder and uses one hand to hold the back of her shirt while the other holds the blanket closed around him.
- There was one time where Naofumi came down first, wearing just his pajama pants and with L'Arc's red comforter around his shoulders, and a lot of hickeys on his neck and chest. - L'Arc came down a bit after to take Naofumi back to their room for cuddles with Therese, his neck and chest also having a lot of hickeys, though not as many as Naofumi.
- It quickly becomes normal to see Naofumi come stumbling into the shared area, sleepy and cuddly as hell, and just plop onto L'Arc or wait for Therese on the couch. - There are (a lot of) times when Myne regrets ever falsely accusing this fucking adorable little kitten-koala baby of bullying her (they got over it, mostly) - The others may or may not feel a bit jealous about L'Arc and Therese getting to cuddle and hold this adorable sleepy version of Naofumi.
- One day, when both L'Arc and Therese had to leave early, Naofumi once again stumble into the shared space. - After looking around for a bit, he seemingly remembers that his boyfriend and girlfriend had to leave early. - Naofumi then, almost sadly, stumbles over and just,,, falls onto the couch before curling up in the green blanket. - So, Kizuna, who, like everyone else, is in pajamas (Therese is the only one who wears her clothes from the morning, that's why she's usually later to come down), sits down beside Naofumi. - She's kinda happy and proud when he doesn't seem to mind her - She offers Naofumi a hug, and suddenly she has her arms full of a sleepy Naofumi blanket burrito - She does not mind and hugs him back happily - The others may or may not be jealous of Kizuna and silently hoping Naofumi will let them comfort him.
- Slowly, Naofumi starts warming up to the others and going to them for comfort in the morning. - One morning, he couldn't locate Therese or L'Arc, and he was hungry, - So, he sat down by the kitchen table beside Ren, and just leaned his head on Ren's shoulder - Ren was frozen for the first 2 minutes before slowly relaxing - But he's still a bit flustered by Naofumi 'choosing' him as he eats his breakfast - L'Arc and Therese doesn't mind at all - They're just happy for Naofumi to be warming up to people
- One day, while Glass had been sitting on one of the couches, drinking her morning tea in the peace of being the only one up, Naofumi had come stumbling, even more, tired than normal. - He'd gone over and thumped down beside her instead of on the corner of the couch like he did when waiting for someone to come down - Naofumi had then started to fiddle and make a couple of small braids with the ends of her hair as she drank her tea. - If anyone noticed the small messy braid she had in the ends of her hair, neatly tied with small hairbands, she wore for the whole day, no one commented on it.
- When Naofumi went to Rishia for the first time, tugging on the back of her nightdress, she'd squeaked before turning to him. - Seeing Naofumi so sleepy and cute, Rishia couldn't help but let out a small squeal at it. - Naofumi continues to follow her around for the morning, holding onto the back of her dress or fiddling with the ends of her hair as she went on with her routine.
- When Naofumi decided to go to Motoyasu, it was while the blonde had been making eggs and bacon for breakfast - Naofumi just went over and wrapped his arms around Motoyasu's lower ribs, and leaned his forehead between Motoyasu's shoulder blades - Motoyasu was kinda spooked at the sudden affection. He did not expect this. He thought Naofumi hated him after he'd sided with Myne all those months ago - Apparently not, because when Motoyasu asked Naofumi if he could let go for a bit so he could finish the food, Naofumi just grumbled incoherently, but nothing else - Motoyasu had sighed before going on about making the food. - 'Huh. This is kind of nice' Motoyasu thought to himself after a bit. He may have been jealous of the others, but he never expected Naofumi to actually choose him to go to
- One day when Naofumi came down, only Glass and Itsuki had been up, being early birds, he'd just stood there by the stairs, looking into nothing but the air in front of him, as if waiting for someone to get him. - After seeing Naofumi standing there for a while, Itsuki decided to get Naofumi to sit down. - Itsuki takes Naofumi's hand, not wanting to intrude on his bubble too much, and tugs Naofumi over to sit at the kitchen table where Itsuki had been eating his breakfast - When Itsuki goes back to eating, Naofumi doesn't let go of his hand, and Itsuki decides to just let it happen and continue eating his breakfast.
- When Naofumi, after months, went to Myne, she may or may not have almost started crying, and may or may not have let out a squeal, and may or may not have regretted every bad thing she ever did. - He'd just gone up behind her and put his forehead on her shoulder and held onto the back of her t-shirt with one hand.
- When Motoyasu one day starts talking about it to his friends when they ask about what it's like to live in the dorms like that, they don't believe that the dark and broody Naofumi is a cuddly baby in the morning. - After a couple of sleepovers in Motoyasu's room, they believe him, and oh my god Naofumi is adorable in the morning.
- When Naofumi brings some of the kids from the local orphanage, Raphtalia and Filo, and Filo's friend Melty, Myne's little sister, to a sleepover, he'd cuddly with them too. - the first time, Naofumi finds Filo watching cartoons on the TV in the morning and flops down beside her on the couch. - Naofumi unconsciously takes Filo's hand, and after a couple of minutes, she's wormed herself into sitting on his lap inside the blanket burrito. - Raphtalia, much like Naofumi, is also tired and cuddly in the morning, while Melty is a bit of an early bird. - When Raphtalia comes down, she sits on one side of Naofumi, and in only a couple of seconds, she's inside the blanket too, cuddled against Naofumi's side. - When Melty gets down, Filo calls her over to join them, and she sits on the opposite side of Raphtalia. - Naofumi does the same with Melty, and she is quickly inside the blanket too, albeit a bit flustered. - They all quickly settle down like that to watch cartoons until breakfast is ready. - When L'Arc and Therese see Naofumi cuddling with the three, they smile before going over and giving him a kiss on the top of his head, making him throw his head back for one of the lips.
- Naofumi almost cannot wake up properly without at least half a cup of coffee. Not coffee for Naofumi = Most likely half-sleepy Naofumi for the rest of the day - The others found out about this the time they ran out of coffee because someone forgot to buy it with the groceries and no one wanted to go buy more so early in the morning. - Since it was the weekend and no one had any plans, they were all just staying inside all day. - About 2 hours after breakfast, where most of them were just feeling lazy and was lazing around the shared area, Itsuki and Therese sitting by the kitchen table, Itsuki with his while and Therese with her drawing pad, and Glass and Kizuna lazing together on one couch, watching TV. Motoyasy sideways on the sofa chair with his phone and Naofumi and L'Arc on the other couch, L'Arc with his computer on his lap, and Naofumi snuggled with his blanket against L'Arc's side. - Motoyasu had looked up from his phone to see Naofumi still half-asleep against L'Arc's side. - When asking how Naofumi was still so tired, Therese had answered from the kitchen that he hadn't had any coffee. - No one minded having Sleepy Naofumi for a whole day - Especially with how cute he was when he was dozing off on the sofa chair after dinner, this time with Therese's blanket around him since his green one had to be washed. - Fucking. Adorable.
(Naofumi will never admit out loud how cuddly he is in the morning and denies it every time someone brings it up. He's very much a tsundere about it.)

So Digimon Adventure 2020 only has six episodes left and I think we can all agree that Taichi is the absolute focus of everything.
Which is kinda a shame, as the original was pretty good at fleshing out different characters and giving them "secondary main character" status or at least framing. Now, that was by no means equally distributed - I still maintain that Hikari and Takeru were more treated as plot devices and Mimi and Jyou were literally put into the "supporting cast" role by the end. Which, as I have pointed out several times already, was especially apparent in the Dark Masters' arc and in the final episodes in particular.
Taking the entirety of Adventure 01 (and by extension 02 and Kizuna) into consideration, it's interesting to see how Yamato, Sora and Koushirou are framed in direct correspondance to Taichi.
Sora: If you don't know anything about the series and only watch the opening, you're likely to assume that she's the heroine of the story, right behind the hero. She's consistently appearing after Taichi in "Butterfly" (with Yamato and Koushirou appearing as either third, fourth - or at the end, like in the "falling" scene, where "the football club trio" gets to be framed together and Yamato comes in last). She's the "more active" female character in the series, has the same hands-on mentality as Taichi, but also maintains her caring and gentle nature towards the others (and also has a significant role in the third arc in bringing everyone together again, basically in unison to Taichi after his return, thus justifying her importance to the group - while also revealing her own arc, "I have a difficult relationship with my mother and am thus unsure what Love really means to me, so I don't know if I'm just acting out of obligation", showing a side that wasn't known before. She only gets an implied resolution in the end, as she at least understand her mother and motivations better, but especially her sense of obligation remains a vague issue).
Yamato: Throughout the first three arcs, his potential role as secondary main character is only displayed by the fact that he is always the second to achieve the next evolution level - and also the only one besides Taichi who reaches Ultimate level. The Dark Masters' arc then puts him into a somewhat antagonist role, placing him as a direct antithesis to the hero (but not really, since he still supports the others and simply has to come to his own conclusions before he can fully return). So technically he gets more attention (even if he does vanish for a huge chunk of the screentime, he still receives the opportunity for a character arc closure by the end, his arc being "I hyperfocus on my brother, because I want to feel needed, but I struggle with relationships/Friendships due to my family situation, separating me and my brother due to our parents' divorce and am envious of a friend who appears to be much better at that, while also being so different from me". He gets to face his inner demons and starts to understand what Friendship really means to him, even if the family situation obviously isn't fully resolved).
Koushirou: His secondary status comes - who would have guessed - due to his usefulness as the person who figures out all the puzzles. Plus, he's - similarly to Sora - often framed as "Taichi's right hand". This is already established in the first episode when he's shown to be the second character to appear and interact with Taichi in the Digital World (and it fits that Sora is the third to join them). Besides him acting as "infodump", one very significant aspect of his character is the constant reference to his personal arc throughout almost all of his centric episodes - and he's also the first character to get a(n almost) FULL resolution in the third arc already (his arc being "I don't Know who I am and where I come from, so I focus on getting to know everything about everything else but me, because dealing with other people is difficult when I don't even understand myself and have no idea why my biological parents did not want me, so I won't worry my adopted parents and maintain a polite mask". And since he reconciles with his parents, his role switches from this to becoming Taichi's emotional support in the Dark Masters' arc - and slowly but steadily breaks through the polite demeanour).
While Taichi's arc remains the most consistent and visible ("I have to learn that Courage doesn't mean recklessly jumping into action, to become more considerate of my surroundings and people dear to me - but I also have to learn not to drown in guilt for the things my past self has done, so I get into sacrifice mode by taking on everything on my own and have a hard time allowing others to help me"), these three get fleshed out the most (with Jyou coming in fifth in my opinion).
And so it's absolutely no surprise that the final fight frames Taichi and Yamato as main fighters, with Sora and Koushirou basically act as their "knights". 02 and Kizuna, unfortunately, take Sora out of the equation for the most part - while Koushirou is the most visible 01 character besides Taichi in 02 and Yamato the obvious secondary protagonist besides Taichi in Kizuna. (Looking at Tri is pointless here, as it clearly makes out Yamato as second main character, just like Kizuna did. But Kizuna also gave Koushirou significant amounts of screentime and relevance. Whereas Sora... Didn't get that.)

Kizuna Road 2021 Night 11 - 7/1/2021; SHO Victorious At GLEAT Event 7/1/2021; Jay White v. David Finlay NEVER Match Announced For Resurgence
Tumblr media
The tour resumed today, in a show you can see now on NJPWWorld (or Abema if you happen to be in Japan!). The featured matches were three special singles encounters between the participants of tomorrow’s main event title match.
- 7/1/2021, Tokyo Korakuen Hall (NJPWWorld)
Taiji Ishimori, El Phantasmo & Jado [Bullet Club] d. El Desperado, Yoshinobu Kanemaru & DOUKI [SZKG] (Ishimori > DOUKI, Bloody Cross, 10:22)
Taichi, Zack Sabre Jr. & Minoru Suzuki [SZKG] d. Tetsuya Naito, SANADA & BUSHI [Los Ingobernables] (Taichi > BUSHI, Seiteijujiryo, 12:24)
YOSHI-HASHI [CHAOS] d. Hiroyoshi Tenzan (Butterfly Lock, 14:30)
Satoshi Kojima d. Hirooki Goto [CHAOS] (Lariat, 15:11)
Tomohiro Ishii [CHAOS] d. Yuji Nagata (Vertical Drop Brainbuster, 22:20)
CHAOS win the special singles matches 2-1 over the Third Generation; why does it somehow figure Goto would be the one to fall? Dangerous Tekkers tried to provoke Naito & SANADA post-match.
Tumblr media
SHO participated today in the main event of GLEAT’s “GLEAT Ver.1″ show at Tokyo Dome City Hall. He took on the presumptive ace of GLEAT Takanori Ito in a LIDET UWF Rules match, that saw SHO win by submission (I don’t have the time handy). It was a different match from what we usually see from SHO, however both Sho Tanaka and Takanori Ito have a background in MMA, and they did their best to do the “worked shoot” style that UWF made famous. It’s kinda funny -- UWF (and UWFi after it) were created as a response to the way-too-worked style of NJPW to begin with. Now NJPW wrestlers are fighting in UWF-style matches. The wheels of time...
The good news is, GLEAT’s show is fully and legally available on YouTube, so have at it. Other matches include such names as Kaz Hayashi, CIMA, Shigehiro Irie, T-Hawk & El Lindaman. I’m going to try to watch the whole thing soon. GLEAT has a lot of good press and hype around it, so let’s see how it does in the real world too.
Tumblr media
Tickets for both NJPW Resurgence and the NJPW Strong taping Fighting Spirit Unleashed went on sale yesterday; apparently ringside seats at Resurgence are already sold out, with other sections soon to go.
Whatever the case, the first match of this show has been announced, as Jay White will face off against his generational rival David Finlay Jr. for the NEVER Openweight Championship. This is Jay’s first announced defense of the title that he won on 5/3/2021 at the first night of Wrestling Dontaku, and he has not been back in the ring since the second night, 5/4/2021, losing in a 6-man tag match. (There were reports both he and Finlay were 2 of the 9 that tested positive for COVID-19, however that was never confirmed to my knowledge, only hearsay from Fit Finlay, who is David’s father, but still not from the source. Only Kazuchika Okada and Taichi publicly confirmed their positive diagnoses.) I wouldn’t be surprised if this were the main event, or semi-main, depending on what Jon Moxley is doing on the card.
I also wouldn’t expect too many match announcements for Fighting Spirit Unleashed, due to it being a Strong taping. They tend to keep those cards pretty close to their chest.
The tour wraps up tomorrow, with a streamed show on NJPWWorld and Abema. The main event is a title match, however the opening matches feature both opponents in the upcoming IWGP World Heavyweight title match at Wrestle Grand Slam giving the Young Lions a bonus Trial Series match a piece. Those should be real fun.
- 7/2/2021, Tokyo Korakuen Hall (NJPWWorld)
Kota Ibushi v. Yota Tsuji
Yuya Uemura v. Shingo Takagi [Los Ingobernables]
El Desperado, Yoshinobu Kanemaru & Minoru Suzuki [SZKG] v. Taiji Ishimori, El Phantasmo & Jado [Bullet Club]
Tetsuya Naito, SANADA & BUSHI [Los Ingobernables] v. Taichi, Zack Sabre Jr. & DOUKI [SZKG]
NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship: Hirooki Goto, Tomohiro Ishii & YOSHI-HASHI [CHAOS] © v. Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Satoshi Kojima & Yuji Nagata

HypMic 7 - 9 | Maou-jou 5 - 6 | Akudama Drive 6 - 8 | I7 s2 6 - 9 | Taiso Samurai 5 - 6
HypMic 7
I will never not laugh at the content advisory, haha.
I like Kazuha already. Too bad he’s probably evil…
Oh, is it the day of the DRB in the series already…? Or maybe, because it’s the qualifiers, BB and MTC’s match is on a different day to FP and MTR’s.
Oh? Does Tom know Jakurai well enough to call him “Jakurai-sensei”? (<- middle ground between “Jinguji-sensei/Sensei” and “Jakurai”) Also, Tom uses “ore”.
Ooh, Iris is a motorbike rider, eh? Interesting. I thought they (<- not sure if Iris is a “she” or “he” with a really weird name) were more of a Saburo-type and didn’t bother with things like that, based on their appearance. Update: Someone on Yahoo Answers said based on Iris’s watashi, she is a woman.
Typo fixed! Good job, anime staff! Update: I’m referring to “…darkest hour is just before the down” (sic).
…bukkorosu = “f***in’ slaughter ‘em”. It’s not wrong…it’s just the subbers really like to abuse the F word for MTC. But you knew that already if you got this far…right?
LOL, Ramuda wants to “scratch [Rex’s] back” (figuratively) to…get SNS views? Hahaha.
This Studio Alita is probably a reference to Shinjuku Alta.
Yotsutsuji!!! That was the one big spoiler I got before watching the episode today and I’m so happy I got to see him animated!
(One of) Irihatoma and Degarashi refer to Jakurai as “Jakurai-sensei” as well. Hmm, I never noticed. Update: That’s Degarashi, because Irihatoma speaks to Jakurai alone later this ep.
There’s 50% chance I’m getting this wrong, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say Kazuha is voiced by a veteran VA…one I already know about.
Doppo calls Kazuha by his first name…That upgrade means their relationship escalated quickly (or this is a quirk of HypMic in general, since I noticed most characters are on first name basis with each other). Also, it’s cute Doppo finally has someone in his corner. No other part of the franchise has one, to my memory. Update: It might actually be “Kazuha-kun”…but I’m still surprised though. Update 2: It’s both, actually.
I’ve listened to the phrase “some random guy” several times from Hifumi’s mouth and all I can figure out is the “yatsu” at the end. (Doesn’t help my ears blocked themselves up again, although it’s less than it used to be.)
Harumi Wharf.
R? On a helicopter landing pad?
…uh oh. I was right when I thought Kazuha was going to be evil. Also, Doppler shift/effect. Update: “Doppler” is clearly a pun on “Doppo”.
Hmm? “Hey, Doppo” from “yaa”…it doesn’t have a name referred in there. It’s a small but odd thing to do. (I remember a professional translator was complaining that people with intermediate Japanese were giving them flak for translating things “wrong”, but what I do here is analysis for my future and edificiation. I’m not here to knock down pro translators’ doors and demand a refund, because I’m trying to go pro to atone for my sins as a scanlator.)
The soundtrack’s slightly sinister tone, plus the fact I figured the culprit well before Doppo did, makes me slightly scared…for MTR.
I realised they skimped on the budget…this “hot off the car chase” line seems more like an MTC line, doesn’t it…?...Yeah, it’s almost word for word for MTC in DRB+. Maybe the subbers rushed and used this translation (this link I put here) rather than their actual lyrics…? I will have to get to the bottom of this. Update: Turns out the translation is slightly different, but…yes, there is reference to a car chase in the start of Shinjuku Style. (Sorry, I don’t know every lyrics of every song off the top of my head.)
…wow, this got really Doppo-centric. I’ve never seen the leader relinquish their position when it comes to “leading into battle” before. It just goes to show the staff really do pay attention to how popular Doppo is.
Note “Doppo” means “walk alone”, roughly speaking, hence the “solitary” line.
This song is very, very faithful to its original lyrics, because I was trying to look at Hifumi’s “mixing paint” line and it pretty much matches.
Hifumi’s “my men”, LOL.
Kazuha = “one leaf”, hence the “leaves” in one of Jakurai’s lines.
I cringe every time I hear screaming coming from this episode, y’know…?
…oh dear. MTC’s plot actually bled into MTR’s.
I already knew from browsing Twitter earlier today that Kizuna was going to become FP’s today, but hearing it is another matter entirely.
Kosuke Miyoshi is Kazuha. Apparently, this guy also voiced Mashirao Ojiro (the tail guy) from BnHA, but that’s his only major role…so I was right in that I knew him, but wrong in that he was, again, a relative rookie in comparison to most.
Apparently FP’s sign is a peace sign sideways to represent an F, but…it’s just a sideways peace sign to me…
…how is Dice’s bead ornament attached to him? Is it on his hair, on his ear, on the skin behind his ear…? I was trying to replicate his outfit and got stuck on how to represent it, so I ended up opting for trying (and failing) to do a small braid on the right side.
IWGP shows up this season…it’s the song with the “hoo!” noise BB perform in this episode.
LOL, “Dead men tell no tales” is a perfect saying for MTC.
Akudama 6
Is there a movie called “Brother”…? There’s apparently one that’s the plural of that, but not that itself.
If HypMic likes the F bomb, then Akudama like the S word.
I-Is it just me or is the choreography sped up at some points in this episode…? It’s a bit disorienting to come back to.
I thought the kid was a robot…but close enough.
Oh no! Why does the teacher always have to die for the student to become stronger???
Kairaku/shugi -> pleasure/doctrine (if I didn’t somehow misunderstand the shark’s kanji combo),
The part after the ED looks a little too long…keep watching.
The Japanese says “Lost Children”, but the English says “The City of Lost Children”, probably referring to this French sci-fi film.
I7 s2 6
I like how Gaku is taking special offence to Yamato’s comments about him being a playboy.
Re:vale-san. I never noticed until now.
“I’m already looking forward to it.” That’s how I would translate Tsumugi’s “I’m already excited”.
“…who could possibly complain?” – I think Mitsuki might.
The pun in the MEZZO show is that tai (group/squad) sounds the same as tai (want to ~). Rabbinsta is obviously Instagram + Rabbit (Chat?).
Oh my gosh! It’s the Yotsuba sister!
Mitsuki’s shopping trip OST is nice, man. This piano.
This episode has a really great sense of danger and foreboding for the future.
I7 s2 7
Perfection Gimmick. Never heard it in the anime before.
Even the ramen house’s name is a play on “Idolish7”.
LOL, Yamato sure turned that comment around.
The sign talking about beer says something about coupons below it. (It went by too fast and my CR app’s kinda fiddly, so I can’t really go back…)
Kimi to Ai na Night (pun on Idolish7, aka “AiNana”, again).
Mitsuki, no one hates you! You’re just imagining it all!
I7 s2 8
Momo hugely resembles Sasara, right down to the highlights on the hair…
“…you’re so handsome…” – I’m dying on the inside here, people! *laps up the BL pandering with a derpy smile on my face*
Banri and Tsumugi haven’t been focussed on lately…they’re clearly doing something regarding Banri’s ties with Re:vale, but I can’t quite figure out what that “something” is.
Why is there a basketball and a football in the back of the Takanashi office…?
Please don’t run in heels, Tsumugi…
“I love Idolish7!” - Ah, despite my quibbles, Tsumugi is good after all.
“making one’s best exertions” – Why do those words on the cup worry me a bit…?
Isn’t “I’m watching you” a creepy statement…?
Apparently Tamaki’s symbol is mp (mezzo pianissimo), hence Sougo’s words.
…my gosh! Aya’s foster father is Kujou?!
I7 s2 9
If I heard it right, Tenn’s line was “I can be your idol”, not “your prince”.
“Older Izumi” - …ah, poor Mitsuki.
“Damn you, sexy beast…” – LOL!
…aw, I think this is the first time my heart has been lightened by Tsunashi’s laugh. He’s a good boy.
The chibis…I’m still trying to get used to them…
As a song once said, “You can’t please everyone so you just gotta please yourself.” (Blah blah blah, something about garden parties…)
Takao what now???...okay, Takao Dayuu.
…You’re lucky that wasn’t Tenn doing Takao Dayuu. It would’ve been very “Gentaro does his courtesan voice” if it was.
Nagi doesn’t overpronounce things as much in this season. It’s…pleasant, actually. Give me more of that.
Nagi’s “Oh my god!” was hilarious.
Taiso 5
Ra (ら) and ro (ろ) look kinda similar in hiragana.
Even without the audio, I can guess the words were “yarubeki koto” (things you should do) -> shachihoko.
The texts are written in gyaru-moji. Gyaru-moji is basically indecipherable to anyone who doesn’t know how it works – kind of like the common teen vernacular, to be honest (LOL…?) – and so the subs actually kind of ruin the confusingness of it all, but they did slightly better when they went “UR”.
Movie shiritori! But…has it really been half a year since Leo started? I feel slightly robbed about that plotline with the Men in Black right now…(then again, HypMic is just as bad about important plotlines, if not worse, so…I’m going to be patient and not complain.)
July 5th…Rei is a Cancer…?
They’re…finally moving on this Men in Black plotline! I only complained two points ago! Thank you, staff, for listening to my complaints (…?).
Moon Land finished recently, so I wonder if I’ll lose interest in this anime from here on out…? There was a Pommel Horse Prince in that.
Moon Land taught me that gymnastics has a lot of skills named after their creators, much like the Aragaki previously. The score is out of 10 for both D (difficulty) and E (execution), meaning a 20 is the best you can do, but the judges can get really picky...
The word for “vault” literally means “leaping/jumping horse”…makes sense.
Some of these names are names I’m familiar with from Moon Land already…but I never remember what the skills look like.
…welp, Leo just proved he really is a ninja after all.
Dr Stone’s s2 had its ED announced to be “Koe?” by Hatena and “Yume?” here really makes a theme…does Hatena give all their song titles question marks on the end?
Taiso 6
Colour gangs? Like in IWGP?
It’s nice to see they’re (Jotaro and Rei) communicating properly for the first time in possibly this entire anime.
On the wall, that thing is an evacuation map…of some sort.
…I’ve always wondered: if a bird eats chicken, does that count as cannibalism?
This is like thw Makkachin incident all over again (in YoI).
“…there’s no reason for you to grin and bear it.”
…Leo and Jotaro, both are so dense! Boys *shakes head*.
BB? More like ET (LOL)!
Maou-jou 5
…I didn’t even notice the cast was all dudes bar the princess at this point.
Tatakau Onnatachi. It could mean “fighting women” or “female warriors”.
I’m still vaguely pissed that Kirito is here under my nose…darn Demon King!!!
One of the harpy’s recent worries was that she wanted to become friends with the princess…That’s kinda cute…
Didn’t Syalis already get the coffin that one time? Or did it get confiscated?
*eyes sparkle* Cloud…I’d like to sleep on a cloud…*dreamy look on face* Cloud.
This is basically Princess, ‘Tis Time for Torture in reverse.
Is it “make do” or “make due”…?
I don’t think I need to explain the joke where the harpy is happy.
Gendo pose!
I wonder if the bed or the sheets will talk to her (Syalis) someday?
Maou-jou 6
The New Gearbolt’s quote is “guruguru dokkan”, which is just a bunch of sound effects. It would translate to something like “whir-whir-thud”.
Underwear episodes are some of the worst episodes ever…they’re so juvenile…I dropped at least one series based on the underwear episode alone.
Ah! The seal on the ice monster’s shoulder! Too cute!
How can a mechanical princess mecha (…thing?) have worries?
LOL, never underestimate the hilarity of the teddy demons ganging up on the Demon King.
I like how the Japanese pointed out the demons only moved the princess.
HypMic 8
I thought the robberies were Kazuha’s doing…? Or is this a separate case?
Samatoki answering his phone with his feet up…LOL, there’s just something funny about it. It shows he’s just so badass, he can get away with it.
Riou’s hacking (?) skills come to the fore again. (Or is that listening to enemy intel?)
Ooh, Iris is sassy. I love her already.
…er, Samatoki? Blowing cigarette smoke into Jyuto’s face is just rude…
“…don’t hang up your gloves.” – Considering Jyuto has his red gloves…LOL.
What the heck is that backing track when the 2nd car moved out? That’s a cool track.
Ah! Iris is a Saburo-type…LOL, Saburo’s fake identity.
“a cop who’s in with the yakuza” - Wow, way to diss your own teammate, Samatoki.
For a guy who was only just in the water, Riou doesn’t even look wet.
“2 DIE 4” – Hmm? So did the anime staff know what Riou’s 2nd round song title was at the time…? Update: Judging by the name “Requiem” dropped in the next episode, I would say yes.
“…f*** the police…” - Wow, way to diss your own teammate, Samatoki. X2
Hmm? In Riou’s rap bit near the end, he goes “mad warrior” and that rhymes (in a very loose way of speaking) with “Mad Trigger”. The English didn’t keep that.
I remember seeing a spoiler which said that line (the one about slaves)…but seriously, Jyuto is such a “sexy revenge cop” (as someone once said – I think it might be Slug, or an anon to Slug) that literally nothing else seems to matter about him.
Why do they subtitle the laughing??? I still have no idea.
“Sgt. Iruma”? The guy just says “Iruma-san”. Is he a sergant or some other rank? Update: Yes. (As in, he is a sergant.)
I’ve never actually seen Ramuda sleep in a bed before, come to think of it. Does he not have a bed?
I would assume Gentaro is going…but he said he won’t be going, then negated that and then negated it again. Unless the 2nd time was him admitting it was a lie the first time…is he going or not???
“shinsetsu no human” – (Spoilers for later on/manga)…Yes, that’s actually what Ramuda says. It’s as if Ramuda subtly admits, right there, he isn’t human.
Nodo = throat…If this were translated more literally, it would sound pretty clunky.
“…rappa no inochi…paa!” – Yep, the subbers got the gist of the joke there.
Dice is basically a worm at this point…He’s squirming like one, anyway.
That “number of pips facing up” thing has got to be foreshadowing for something, y’know? Nothing in a story ever goes to waste. Also, it’s likely the dice are weighted or something…
…yep, there you go.
That voice Gentaro used for “I despise lies” was amusing…because it’s so different to his normal voice, and because Gentaro is a serial liar.
The 2nd song…which I already know is called “JACKPOT” from browsing Twitter earlier today…was a bunch of fun.
Udagawacho.
Hmm…emphasis on the candy. I wonder what that means? (<- already knows, I just want to keep it a secret from you, dear reader, if you don’t know it too)
ANIME SHOP is so clearly a pun on Animate, including the colours, that I can’t even…LOL.
FP’s Kizuna sounds distinctly different to the others…probably because of Ramuda. It’s mostly Ramuda carrying the tune there.
“Life is what you make it.” – Hmm, an interesting quote for sure.
HypMic 9
…welp, they don’t call it Fling Posse for nothin’.
I didn’t believe my ears, so I went and listened to it again. Sure enough, Ichiro calls Jakurai -san, not -sensei.
Ramuda’s normal voice! Things are getting serious~!
“Hifuming”? Is that a deliberate choice on the translators’ part? Or is it a mishearing?
…I’m laughing at how Samatoki called Ichiro a “hypocritical piece of s***”. I know the “s***” part is correct at minimum from the audio.
I believe Samatoki said -san, not -sama when he asked for an honorific. Hmm, interesting.
I knew this would get animated, but…I still can’t believe I’m watching it! Amazing…absolutely amazing.
If you’re wondering…yes, that long thing is her entire title and name. It’s said the name “Kadenokouji” is the longest Japanese surname in existence.
I remember reading a tweet earlier today that said somebody wanted “Altercation! Altercation! Altercation!” as a song title…and now I LOL, because the subbers made Gentaro say the exact same word.
Hmm…I only just noticed BB are the only ones with bags. They probably came last, but who took the others’ bags into Chuoku…? Update: Some of the others did have bags, I just never spotted them. For instance, Riou is carrying a large black rectangular bag, but Samatoki and Jyuto don’t have any. Jakurai has the bag from his TDD days.
The 2nd DRB brackets got announced today. BB vs DH, MTR vs BAT, FP vs MTC, rolling out across Japan (and Japan only due to COVID) in 2021.
“What happened between you and him?” - I was going “who?” in Cantonese (as I sometimes do), but turns out they’re just referring to Samatoki.
This is exactly as it played out in the drama tracks and manga…exactly what I was waiting for all this time! So good, dangit!
LOL, in the future, we will have camera drones working our concerts like they do in the DRBs…I think (?)
I wonder what Dice is thinking right now, seeing Otome on the screen…hmm…
…gah! Airhorn! Airhorn to the ears! *tilts to side due to sound*
I still kind of remember Slug’s take on the final battle…”The popo? More like the poopoo!” (or something like that). *sniggers*
The little barking bit after Jiro’s verse was…kinda cute, actually.
…ow, these are some burn-ass words. See? This is the power of the DRB!
…eh? Riou’s mic has his MC name on it. Don’t think I’ve seen that in any other part of the series.
Hoh, Riou even made references to Saburo’s character songs.
You can see “Hc” on Samatoki’s mic too…probably another case of his MC name, but partially obscured by his hand.
Aw, “Samatoki no sabaku toki” is a good lyric. Why couldn’t you try to keep that, instead of translating it literally to “judgement day for Samatoki”?
You can hear a thumping beat in the background when Samatoki prepares himself. That seems to be a similar way to how ARB treats this stuff.
“I’m THE Samatoki” – “Samatoki-sama da”.
I think it was really cool to show Samatoki handing the song over to Riou, but it also indicates there’s a disjunct in the lyrics that would cause such a thing. From this, maybe Riou is MTC’s weak link…?
Skeletons with katanas! Is that not cool?!?
…hey, that joined words thing Ichiro does…I would assume that’s what Rhyme Strike looks like in the HypMic universe?
Notice Samatoki took the word “signal” from Ichiro’s part and put it into his own one.
“Today is a good day to die.” – *eyes bulge* Oh…gosh. What a quote. Update: Someone theorised Ichijiku wrote these titles (the last 2), but someone else – like me – theorised this quote was what FP and M fans thought for this battle.
Akudama 7
…that’s one twisted kid.
Never threaten to kill a kid who can regenerate far better than you, Hoodlum.
Brawler is still in the OP…it’s kind of saddening to see him now.
I noticed a certain character appears on the Executioners’ hands if you pause at the right moment in the OP. It’s the first character in shori (management).
Bunny: set meal/Shark: roasted meat (yakiniku)
…This sounds a heck of a lot like the genbaku dome (Hiroshima Peace Park).
Bunny and Shark’s shirts together: Idiot -> Shark: Bone
Actually, this also reminds me of the Osaka Expo held in 1970. I loved writing about that event – it was just so fun to write about.
This anime is like Appare-Ranman’s sequel, except without the racing and crazy racial stereotypes (although there are still crazy stereotypes).
…whoa! This scene is going on the end of year list for sure. Just…have to remember this scene, where all the children disappeared, exists.
…”The City of Lost Children” is an apt title for this episode.
(HypMic spoilers!) I wonder if they’ll reveal that Ramuda is a clone in what’s left of the HypMic anime?
…oof, Doctor’s a filthy traitor!
Rule number 1 of fighting: never yell out “Smokescreen!” when the smokescreen is meant to cover you.
…LOL, dark censorship bar. Please wait for the Blu-Rays to see this scene uncensored.
What the heck?! The countdown went from 7 to 0 so fast!
Akudama 8
Black Rain, huh? *checks* It’s a movie about a pair of New York policemen who have to save a Japanese gangster from his death.
…don’t jinx it, Swindler!
Your brother isn’t on the moon, Sister. It’s just your dreams on there.
Notice “Neo Lake Biwa” actually has “Reiku” in its name, as opposed to, say, “mizuumi” or “ike” (the Japanese equivalent).
You can still see where Doctor stitched herself up.
What did Doctor “hold on to”?
Way to monologue through the whole morality thing… (<- not as satisfied as they would like from this scene)
I wonder if the seal is electronically tracked…
Tsubo = pot, vase…*thinks about drugs* (Not that pot.)
“…I’ll make you into a real man.” – More like a eunuch, LOL. (partially sarcastic)
I recall from Sarazanmai that “pair look” is the term for “twinsies” in Japanese.
Oh! Swindler kind of looks like the Executioner Boss now.
…I find it ironic that Swindler had long hair up until not too long ago.
Can to the eye! Ouch! That’s gotta be worse than a lightsaber…er, jitte to the eye!
This makes me wonder…was Courier a rich kid once…?

I wanted to do the Kizuna countdown these guys made but I uh forgot. And I’m gonna forget again before friday because I tend to pass out after work and dinner. Sooo... I’m just gonna do it all right here right now, since it’s the last weekend before Kizuna!
First thoughts when Kizuna was announced:
“Holy shit they’re making another one!? How long will they try to squeeze every drop of nostalgia out of us? Because as for me I’m pretty sure that well is bottomless soooo can they just go on making new Adventure movies forever and ever?”
Expectations for Kizuna:
Based on what I’ve heard it kind of seems like the Digimon sequel we would have expected... but got Tri instead. I really enjoyed Tri, though it was far from perfect, so I’m not sure how to feel about Kizuna! But I’m really excited to see the kids as adults trying to balance adulting, their dreams, and the things they care about in their daily lives.
A headcanon/theory you’d like Kizuna to make canon:
Can’t think of anything, sorry.
Expectations for the new characters:
New girl has a butterfly in her hair. She’s probably a harmless guide/informant type. New guy looks strict and apparently is rather blunt. But my guess is he’s not the big bad either... maybe distrusting of the digital world though. There’s probably more to both of these guys but Idc as usual, I only care about my children.
First Digimon memory:
Was a 10 year old Pokemon fan. All 10 year old Pokemon fans thought Digimon was a rip-off (how were we to know it was actually the older of the two, and already part of an established monster tradition in Japan!). We were also obsessed with Pogs and had fights over Pogs on the playground, which I think says a lot about our mental state.
My bro rented some Digimon VHS from Blockbuster (fuck yeah 1999!) and it was the whole Devimon saga. I scoffed and then sat down and watched with him. Then I was freaking HOOKED. I turned on the TV to see the new eps, but actually the show was starting back at reruns before moving on to the Myotismon saga at the time, so I got to watch the whole thing from start to finish in chronological order. I cried buckets when the final episode aired and mourned for weeks.
Favorite Adventure series:
does this mean Adventure or 02? or including Tri? Anyway the answer will always be Adventure. That’s nostalgia central for me. A lot of it was pretty straightforward storytelling, other seasons did more creative stuff, but I think that’s to be expected - this series built the foundation for all that. And it’s great in its own way. What I particularly liked was always the whole “kids trying to figure shit out on their own” bit. For a kids’ show, they actually did it pretty well. Usually kids in that situation act just like really competent adults and don’t really struggle. Digimon certainly had that too, but it let the kids be crybabies, be selfish, be ignorant... it was really about their personal growth and that’s why they got to be kids as well.
Favorite Adventure Chosen Child (older 6):
Taichi!! Do I even need to explain myself? I will anyway. I didn’t care about him much when I was ten. For a long time I didn’t have a favorite character. It was Yamato for about thirty seconds, and then it was Takeru for about two years. After 02, I rewatched both seasons, and suddenly realized Taichi was Everything to me. I never really went for leader characters, never liked brash, brainless, bring-the-brawn types, or stern, distant ones, cold except when showing their passion for their mission.
But Taichi isn’t like either of those. He has bits of both - he can be brainless, and he’s pretty brash, but he’s calculating too. I liked that mix, but mainly I liked that he just seemed like a regular kid who the others were naturally drawn to as a leader because he was Mr. Get-shit-done. The older I get, the more I appreciate that proactive factor in people. Sometimes you just need someone to say the thing that’s on everyone’s minds. It can be scary. So I feel gratitude when someone takes the lead when I can’t. I think that’s how the other kids felt towards Taichi - for all his flaws, he kept them going, he didn’t let them waffle and miss their chances. I like him for a ton of other reasons too but I’ll end there for today!
Favorite 02 Chosen Child (younger 6):
Takeru. He was my original fav and I really really wanted to see him be awesome in 02. Unfortunately, he and Hikari didn’t really get much development. (They still made out better than all Frontier kids not named Kouji, though.) But I loved his anger issues and his facing his trauma. They should have done so much more. I really wanted him to bond with Ken over the fact that they’d both lost partners... I loved seeing older Takeru in Tri, the trauma issue came up again when he was the first one to realize his partner was infected. I’ve never been so moved by a crying plush doll lmao. Also his fashion sense, woot.
The runner-up is worth a mention since she wasn’t part of the original Adventure group and therefore could be considered my true 02 fav - Miyako. I loved the nerdy glasses girl because I was a nerdy glasses girl. I wasn’t as outspoken as Miyako, but I could go on and on about things I liked. I loved how pure and flawed she was and I loved her inner sense of right and wrong and her frankness. It’s refreshing when so many characters hide their true feelings. And I loved her and Hikari. Hikari and Miyako are the true girl friendship in those series. Sora and Mimi are nice but didn’t get the same level of development. Of course, I headcanon they were all awesome girlfriends.
Favorite Digimon partner:
This is an IMPOSSIBLE question, I love ALL OF THEM. I can’t pick one.
Gabumon: the way he and Yamato don’t need words, he just understands him, and when he doesn’t, always assume the best and gives him space. Their connection through music. And the way Gabumon will tease him especially over Taichi XD Gabumon keeps Yamato in line.
Gomamon: the way he is just what Jou needs, someone to keep him positive. I’m anxiety-prone myself and one reason I love my job working with young children is they make me see the bright things that I used to be able to see all the time when I was a child. I never really wanted to grow up. I think Gomamon is that for Jou, the child in him he doesn’t want to let go of, and doesn’t actually have to, because we take that part of us into our future.
Tentomon: because was he not MVP of the YEAR in Kokuhaku!?!?!?!?! That was amaaaaazing. Also he is easily the funniest Digimon and I love how he brings out the affectionate side of Koushirou. Again he’s exactly what Koushirou needs.
Patamon: Because he’s cuuuuute!!! and gives Takeru something to nurture and protect while also protecting him. Takeru, the youngest, who needed to be protected but also needed to grow, got a Digimon with those exact same qualities. PERFECT MATCH.
Hawkmon: I always loved him paired with Miyako. He was my favorite 02 partner. He was grumpy and irritable yet caring with Miyako, basically the compass she needed when she felt panicky. And he was COOL. Like he had the best evolutions lol. And as the only male/female partner set (I know Digimon don’t have true genders but this isn’t a made up thing either), there was a slightly different dynamic, like Miyako needed someone a bit more her opposite than other Chosen, to help push her in new directions.
Agumon: He gets honorable mention in particular because of Tri! But also because of 02. In Adventure, Taichi didn’t have a strong grasp of what it meant to raise his partner. He and Agumon saw each other as equals - which they are - but you do see a shift in that balance as Taichi gets older. Agumon is very powerful, but very child-like and thoughtless. In 02 and Tri, we see Taichi taking care of him much more like a big brother with a young brother. In Adventure, they just played together and wound each other up. What this means is Taichi’s grown up to be quite the caretaker, out of necessity - his partner is a bit high maintenance compared to the others! And caretaker isn’t usually the quality that jumps to mind when you think of “anime protagonist” or even leader. So I LOVE it. Also, Agumon struggles to express big concepts. But he can express really important things in simple ways, and Taichi needs that simplicity when his head gets all muddled with complexity. We definitely saw that in Tri. Agumon is kinda the Doraemon of Digimon, lol.
And I love literally all of the others and could go on about them for ages. But I’ll stop here. Will continue the countdown (er, I guess I can’t call it that when I’m doing it like this) later.

Quick thoughts about Digimon:
I tuned in one morning I wasn't working, which was rare at that job I was at at the time, caught 02 ep 10, and was hooked. I later realised the writer of all the Dark Ocean content was Konaka Chiaki, whose work I generally like, so no surprise there.
I gotta say, they probably should've just gone with 「相棒」 for partner. This word is usually a partner in context of a business partner or police partner--in fact, a show called just that has been running for the entire 21st century about detective partners (and it's a pretty good show. I've seen it be sympathetic to the plight of undocumented immigrants, for one)
Using "partner" the English loanword...well, the context I really hear it in is same-gender partner.
Now, mind you, I only figured things out as an adult, and native Japanese speakers here are and always have been treated pretty miserably. (Which is why "exotic Japanese garnish for my human default English" is very, very much rubbing your priveledge in our faces, incredibly offensive, but hey, y'all also repost Japanese fanworks without permission to the point many delete their accounts and give up because y'all are so married to the idea we're not people, which frankly, y'all's treatment of queer men in fandom is equally garbage)
But the reason that point is mentioned is that we're so sidelined, it's hard to even find and connect with each other (e.g. SF Japantown only has Japanese speaking clerks on one floor of Kinokuniya where the books in Japanese for us are kept. It's now "look Asian for the tourists") so a lot of us end up having trouble accessing random words in our own language because we're so used to either no one around us speaking it or bad consequences when we break our English with Japanese.
So, as I've never experienced queer life in Japan, and Japanese immigrants commonly end up yoyoing back to English, I'm not entirely sure "partner" the loanword is the only way to express same-gender partner as opposed to just the only one I've heard.
It does stand that it is *a* way. (Well, obviously, you could still use terms like "boyfriend" or "wife" but think the same as English speakers use it)
When watching 02, it's pretty easy to not go there because they're so young, and interact with the digimon during downtime like siblings, as the digimon are children as well (and you can't tell me that Wormmon isn't spot on for a younger brother in an abuse situation caring for an older brother)
Tailmon isa bit different, and obviously more mature, but ep 10 was the only Hikari-centric episode, and I never really had the desire to go back and watch Adventure. I don't feel like it had something for older viewers like I got out of 02-Frontier (Savers was intentionally about older viewers, and it was like a Doogie Howser/Men in Black/Digimon crossover, and I love it. And it had adults and even an elderly character with Digimon partners! Yay for useful adults!) so I admittedly can't decisively say about Tailmon.
But the rest do seem like siblings to their human children. And they're pointedly all children.
But just now, I was watching the new short, To Sora.
I have to say, as Piyomon has an adult voice, and Sora is an adult, my mind definitely went to "maybe the nomenclature could be better."
I do also have to say that I'm rather disappointed that they're ending this with "adults can't be Chosen anymore." At least there'll always be Savers, and maybe someday, I'll have enough of my massive dual-prong Digimon and Bleach project up that I can call it "extant" (I'm having a handful of the Bleach gang become Chosen as well as Osamu put into a gigai, and if you know Bleach, just imagine Coyote Starrk getting a new friend. Of course, he still has Lillynette and also adopts most of the Arrancar as his own children, but yes, Coyote gets a Digimon friend, too. And they're specifically trying calling adults because the kids keep getting too traumatised)
Ah, things run away from me.
But yes, especially with adult chosen and digimon, "partner" the loanword with no qualifier (i.e. "partner digimon") sounds like something else entirely to my queer mind www
And also "boo" for usefulness having an age limit. I wouldn't be saying this if this weren't specifically being aimed at fans who grew up with Adventure, and, while younger than me, are still well into adulthood. Cross Wars or the reboot have no reason to concern themselves with adult viewership, but Kizuna is being made for adults. So "end of childhood=end of your ability to be a hero" seems kinda... Even if they're just trying to end the original Adventure franchise, seems like a...they can do it better.
While no, Ken's and Daisuke's parents and Jun really *don't* deserve love, just... I dunno, there's just a deluge of teen heroes with powers and some immortal hero stories, but there's not a whole lot of the kind of adults you see in Savers. Yeah, they're side characters, but I'll take what I can get. Kizuna's approach is more common, which is a shame now that the average fan is roughly 29.
(Doesn't it also mess up the whole making the epilogue make any sense, what with everyone being with their digimon in that?)
(And for that matter, I would've loved 02 parents to have names, and maybe they could've gone into Miyako's more. She seems like she has a solid family. We see Ken explaining the digimon, and his parents exploited him until he had a breakdown. Heck, his dad continues to jump down his throat over things. Why couldn't Miyako's get some love? Why can't we see Miyako explaining digimon to her family and stay up all night with her older siblings hanging on her every word? Which considering how much real life kids get sorta discounted when two adults are talking (which I'll often just walk past and wave to the kid, so they know someone sees them) might have actually been an empowering fantasy for viewers. And a really great balance to Daisuke and Ken's home lives. (The kids with unpleasant families feel represented and empowered because they can still be heroes, but kids can also have the empowerment of watching Miyako's whole family, of which she is the baby, hanging on her words
(Also, why can't we see how someone from that family could enjoy the company of someone who slaps her kid brother around? And has some kind of stalker complex? Sure, it's stuff I can make answers for myself in my project, just like the initial reason to cross them was explaining the Dark Ocean, but I really would've loved something in canon about them)
Typically, adults in any kind of action hero story--let's look at Star Wars. The people who raised Luke are non-combatants. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda (an older Muppet, but older still stands) are just there as mentors, like Urahara in Bleach. It's really on Luke's shoulders. Han Solo is as old as a hero gets, and he's pretty young himself. (I've seen the original trilogy, and it was forever ago, so if Luke Skywalker is actually a teenager, forgive the error)
You don't see anyone between 20 year old hero and 60 year old mentor doing much of anything. Buddy cops are the only exception to this.
Shame that digimon is gonna follow that pattern instead of buck the trend, especially now that their fanbase is getting older. I dunno how much of a letdown the apparent Kizuna narrative is for a 29 year old as opposed to someone who wasn't even a kid when it was new, but I'm sure it's there. Even if I am decidedly older than that, I can't be the only one disappointed by it. If I thought I was, I wouldn't make this post.
And it kinda messes up using this to make the epilogue make any sense. When it was first revealed that Yamato suddenly became an astronaut, Gabumon was there with him on Mars. So on and so forth, and all humans had partners. Which naturally includes all the people over 23.
I guess we'll always have Satuma and Kudamon. (Miki and Megumi are nice too, and are also teetering on the edge of canon ship, which it's nice to see queer female fans get that, but they do seem like they're in their early to mid 20s, which arguably puts them at the end of typical "useful age range")
I'd love to already have an alternative up, but for now, I only have a few Bleach prequel one shots posted and over 800 pages of bullet point notes.

I've already said Masaru's the muse that is least like me (and Bleach's Ichigo is so much like me, in my project I may end up just giving him my career)
But I do get enough to want to play him.
Of course, uh, well, anyone who knows me can tell you all about my difficulty with modern technology. Although I'm really handy with analogue tech, to the point I still mostly use it and can do basic repair on most of it (though, like me, it's all ageing and showing problems it didn't used to, at which point, I seem to become Tim Taylor...)
One of the things I do get is the basic feeling of anger. Mine is related to racism and queerphobia to the point of being an abuse survivor because of it. This is why my triggers are rage triggers, and they're things like "dressing up my human default English in exotic Japanese" and other "racism against certain groups is empowering uwu" kinda stuff.
Masaru's is maybe not as easy to point out, although his seems to be directed towards things that either endanger loved ones (Masaru v. Piyomon), hurt feelings into anger (Masaru v. Touma the second time, after he gave Touma his trust) or things that just violate his ethics code/are cruel (Kurata)
Also, feeling looked down on (Touma at first, ostensibly the motivation for the people he regularly fights with, who mostly look older than him), but I think that's probably most people.
And of course, violence is the first resort and something he regards as a moral imperative rather than something he does only if he must (conversely, Ichigo seems to fight regretfully when feeling forced into it, and Ken, well, the moment he realised he was being violent to living beings, that was horrifying enough to break him of control, and probably scar him for life. Will be upset if he's totally well-adjusted in Kizuna)
But I still get the anger, even if mine's through 23 years of acquiring CPTSD (and my understanding of trauma is why I said the last thing in brackets) and his is more just kinda how he's wired.
Will it ever calm down? I kinda picture there having to be an event to really bring home that he's gotta stop defaulting to violence. The anger, you know, that might even end up getting worse.
I used to solve the problems I could with fighting because I just didn't see another way. In high school, once the Japanese side of my family was all deceased, and it was the racist side and a bunch of racist Southerners, I quickly realised I had no school staff or any authority figures on my side, and all I was left with was my fists.
But when I turned legal age, I didn't wanna end up in prison, and I already knew the law only accepts self-defence if you're white. And you have to be monoracial white to be white. Those both being obvious, I became afraid to fight for myself.
I have even in recent years, rushed headlong into fights to protect others, but I'm trying to get the victim to safety, not take on the attacker. Honestly, joint degradation at this point means the latter wouldn't work, anyway.
One thing I can so easily see Masaru sharing with me is, even after all these years, I never figured out how to protect myself without violence.
I recently got pepper spray. Literally three days ago. I'll see what happens. The problem is I've been taught so hard to fear consequences of protecting myself.
But Masaru would still have two things I do, even if for different reasons.
1. He would not know how to effectively stand up for himself or his loved ones in the absence of violence being a viable route. Being ineffective would further fuel anger.
2. I think he'd be prone to worse buildup of anger once he can't let any of it out in violence. As he ages, things like insomnia, stress-related vomiting, and high blood pressure might be very real problems for him.
When you use your fists to solve problems, but you aren't an abusive person, you eventually submit to that not being a reasonable answer, and you end up with a "what now?"
And even a couple of decades after losing the option of violence, I still don't have an answer. People say "don't let it get to you" or "let it roll of your back," and that doesn't make any sense to me. I'm not that type of person. I'm not capable of that. And I don't think Masaru is, either.
Breathing excersises, walking meditation (you focus on chanting, not emptying your mind), knowing the one kind of person who actually is beneath me (I see all people as just that, people) is a bully, I dunno. I just think it's very hard for someone who once relied on violence to find something else that works. Bottling it all up keeps you from dealing with cops, which dealing with cops is never a good idea in America, but actually getting rid of the anger, if I haven't found that by 2020, someone so much younger than me is unlikely to have.
Sure, he has living family and people that are good fighters themselves, and let's be real, Touma deals with bigoted family hating his guts. He also duelled Masaru early on. He gets the satisfaction of violence.
So he has more possibility to be taught various ways to maybe somewhat mitigate the stress at one point, but his gut reaction will probably always be rage, and frankly, probably Touma is the only one who has a chance of knowing a way to help diffuse the rage after it's there.
That being said, Touma has other failsafes. He does look down on other people. He's got access to an ivory tower of loftiness, if you will. He's the one most likely to understand how Masaru feels, but he has his own background and viewpoint that Masaru doesn't have an equivalent. And let's be honest, Sayuri, and what we know of him, Suguru, don't really have that anger.
A lot of people I work with don't have that anger, either. They can let people calling them monkeys or "joking" about the Holocaust or calling ICE on them roll of their back. And they tell me to, and I just can't. So I don't feel like Sayuri or Suguru have the rage necessary to help Masaru cope once violence is no longer a viable route. I've come to realise that feeling rage is a fundamental type of person, just as Sayuri's apparent lack of an anger drive.
I think Touma comes closest to it. But I think he'd have to have a better answer than "know you're better than them." Masaru doesn't have that kind of high horse. In fact, he seems to at first, readily agree with and be angered by Touma being of upper class and accomplishment as well as his arrogance.
But as much as there's just got to be a solution to deal with the rage, which Masaru has in spades, I am currently unable to even concieve it myself. So as Masaru gets older, yeah, I think he'd have not-insignificant health problems related to just all that anger sitting in him.

Dimension Wave  Chapter 15 — Somewhere Efficient, Profitable, and without Anyone in Sight
The next day. Last night, to celebrate the three of us getting together, I treated them the best herring I had. Our party got real lit and we crashed hard at the end of the night, even though it’s not like we got drunk or anything.
“So, what’s this about?”
I try to remember what happened yesterday. After getting a passerby to cook our top-quality herring, the three of us hung out by the riverbed—lantern in one hand, dinner in the other. We chatted about how we’re all Spirits, Yammy’s communication disorder, how she was anxious about being a bother to others, and even how my sisters forced me to play as a girl. I feel like we got a lot closer. That was fine. I can still remember up to that. But what’s this about?
“… zzz…” “… ‘tis how… I speak…”
Lying before me are Shouko in her yukata and Yamikage in her underwear. And yeah, I’ve nothing by my underwear on too.
“Wha…? What did we do last night?”
This game is rated PG; booze is restricted for minors, so I can’t even blame myself for being under the influence for any mistakes I may have made. And of course, nothing lewd can be depicted in game either. I’ve heard rumors that there are new VR games for adults only, but I really don’t think this is one of them.
“Ugh, what time is it?”
The sun shines through the windows. At the very least, I can tell it’s not morning anymore. I open up my menu and check the clock. It reads 1:24 PM. Jeez, it’s midday already. We’re absolute degenerates to be sleeping in on our first day as a party.
“Shouko! Yamikage! Get up!”
As soon as I shout at them, Shouko sits up with her eyes half-open. Judging by how she’s the only one in her PJs, I’d assume she dragged us all the way here.
“G’mornin’, Kizhna…” “Oh, wake up already…”
Beds really are too OP in this game. I think we got at least four, five hours of sleep. It’s probably a safety measure for dealing with people who stay up and play too much. Anyway, now’s not the time to get sidetracked.
“Shouko, what happened last night?” “Ev’body looked sho shleepy, sho we headed back to the inn.” “Mm-hmm.”
She’s not conscious enough to speak properly, but I still understood her. It seems like the three of us somehow managed to stagger back here.
“It woulda been dangeroush to shtay out there, so I got a big room for ush.”
I think I got the gist of the situation. But… but…
“But why are the two of us naked?!” “… ahh!”
Ah, she’s fully awake now. Shouko looks around at her surroundings before speaking again.
“Good morning, Kizuna. Quite the fine morning, isn’t it?”
What a refreshing smile.
“It’s past noon already!”
The truth was actually awfully simple. Because clothes will wrinkle in this game, Shouko was being considerate and stripped us down. I guess wrinkles are a pretty big deal. But it’s not like there aren’t dry cleaners in town. As long as you have enough money, they can clean anything. And because they’re not expensive either, female players tend to often use them, apparently.
“I am truly sorry, Kizuna, Yamikage.” “No, don’t be. I should be thanking you instead.” “Aye. Had you not taken us safely to shelter, it may have landed us in an unthinkable predicament. We ought to be grateful to you.”
Yamikage was quite dazed after waking up. She was super embarrassed about other people seeing her nearly naked. She even blurted out ‘D-Don’t stare…’ as if it weren’t embarrassing for us too. Plus, she let her old-timey speak slip. It’s probably a part of her roleplaying. I mean, who actually speaks like that in real life?
“But, y’know, I’m a dude, right? You gotta be more careful. I mean, yeah, we can’t do anything in this world, but still… it wouldn’t be right.” “That’s true. Since Kizuna looks exactly like a girl, the truth had slipped my mind.”
Yeah, I know, I’m currently a girl, but… I guess I do look obviously feminine and same goes for Yamikage. She didn’t really seem to worry about seeing me naked though. If Dimension Wave weren’t so detailed, everybody looks pretty much the same. Of course, everyone looks good—unlike real life—but everyone is humanoid in nature. It is what it is. Those two know only know me through the body and voice of Kizuna†Exceed. They should be careful around a guy like me… but it’ll probably be fine if I’m more careful too.
“Well then, let’s make up for lost time. Where’re we headed to today?” “About that…”
Shouko makes an uneasy face.
“As fitting as the Forest of Eternal Darkness was for us, every other place I’m familiar wouldn’t be good for Kizuna. I mean, there would be plenty of people who would see us.”
She does have a point about her concern. If I were to be honest, it’s not like an absolute must that we keep it a secret. We’d have our priorities backwards if we let something like that stop us from hunting together as a party. We thought about simply waiting until nightfall to head back to the forest, but it’d be kinda a waste. It’s not really Energy-efficient for three people, Shouko said.
“In that case, maybe it’s not worth hiding anymore. It’d be impossible to keep it a secret forever anyway.” “I understand, Kizuna, but would it not be a shame if we so easily reveal your secret?” “Forsooth.”
Well, I guess so. If this were any other MMORPG, people could just go online and find out how the game works. But in Dimension Wave, most people don’t know even know what goes into forging a weapon. Gutting-type weapons are the weakest, so it doesn’t see a lot of use. But that’s because people don’t know that there’s more than just attacking with gutting weapons, hence why Shouko and Yamikage don’t want to give away this cash cow.
“So, what we want is somewhere that’s worthwhile for Energy, money, but also with no one around…” “‘Tis quite the list of requirements!” “I’m afraid we may be a little too greedy.”
We’re all in agreement about that. It’s almost as greedy as having a six-figure income requirement to even consider marrying someone. It would be weird if such a place existed with nobody there. Not to mention, the chances of being seen by anyone is definitely greater than zero. Hell, we might just be asking for the impossible. In an MMORPG, there are always locations that are popular and locations which are deserted. But if it’s a place where no one goes, it usually means it’s not efficient to grind there.
“And somewhere empty too…?”
I’ll admit to being unreasonable. There’s no way somewhere like that… wait a minute. There is a place like that. I didn’t get a good grasp of whether it was Energy-efficient or not, but at least I know the monsters are stronger there than the Forest of Eternal Darkness. But, it’s a little—
“Miss Kizuna? Is something the matter?” “Did you come up with a good idea?”
Both of them look at me with anticipation. Their expectations of me might be a little too high after the whole Lizardman Dark Knight battle yesterday.
“I can think of a place where there’s no one around but with monsters stronger than the ones in the Forest. Though, I really can’t say so for sure.” “What sort of place is that? ‘Tis an easy decision should we head there directly, no?”
… it’s not like I think it’s somewhere we should go, but it seems like Shouko and Yamikage are interested. No, we should decide as a group. I just threw out a suggestion.
“The ocean.” “The… ocean?” “Yeah. I paddled out to the open sea on a wooden boat before we met, right off the coast of the first city. I didn’t have much Energy then, so the monsters were pretty damn strong. I had to retreat, but I’m thinking that there’s three of us now…” “I can see why you’re unsure.”
How many monsters are there? Are we strong enough? Will we be safe? There are just too many unknown variables. It doesn’t seem like any of us would be good fighting on water. The monsters are strong too. But because almost nobody has fought them before, their mats are rare to say the least. And assuming that their mats sell, we would do well to go grind there.
“There’s another issue.” “Pray tell, Miss Kizuna.” “My boat’s too small.”
It would be pushing it trying to fit three people on my Wooden Boat +3 and that’s just for seating capacity. If a monster were to come at us, we would be dead in the water.
“Where did you get the boat?” “Ah, I found it in a market stall at the first city for 40,000.” “Perhaps we could directly contact the seller?” “Yeah, if only I knew their name. It was just some random market stall after all…” “‘Tis a handcrafted piece, no? The name of the craftsman should be inscribed somewhere.” “Wait, really?”
It’s obvious for MMOs to have the crafter’s name written somewhere. I check out my Wooden Boat +3 in my inventory. There it is. There’s a “Crafted by” line in the description. “Sheryl”. Surely, there’s gotta be more than one Sheryl. It’s so normal, yet so odd.
“I’ll try calling her.”
I let the others know before selecting “Chat” in the menu. Then I punch in S-H-E-R-Y-L. It’d be nice if everything works out well. I bought the boat about a week ago around noon as well. I don’t think she’d suddenly become nocturnal, right? Well, even if my call doesn’t go through, I can try again later at night. Of course, if I were to call her three times and I still can’t reach her, I’ll take the hint that she’s not interested. I could always go see her in person as well. Maybe I should ask her if she knows Alto, seeing how he’s got all sorts of connec—
—Sheryl has joined the chat.
“Hi, sorry for the sudden call. My name is Kizuna†Exceed. I bought a boat from your store about a week ago.” “…”
Huh? No response. Did she pick up? No, wait, this isn’t a phone call. It’s not like I could’ve called the wrong person. Plus, her name was easy to spell, so I’m sure it’s right.
“Do you hear me okay?” “… yep.” “Oh, good. So, I have a question for you. Since the boat I bought the other day fits only two people, I’m wondering if you have anything a little bigger.” “… nope.” “I-I see…”
I got my hopes up a little, but I guess nothing’s that easy. Back to square one, I suppose.
“Alright then, thank you for your ti—” “But, if you’ve got the mats, I could make you one.” “Mats, huh?” “There’s only a single person I can think of that’s bought a boat from me… I think I remember you. Seeing how easily you can drop 40,000, I’m sure you’re able to assemble materials too.”
Oh, right. If I recall correct, the 40,000 serin covered the costs of the raw materials. I don’t really know what her goals are, but I think I can get her to make me a boat as long as I front the costs.
“… it all depends on the size of the boat, too. How big are you thinking?” “I’m wondering if you can make me something big enough to seat three people and have enough room to fight on as well.” “…” “Umm…” “… hold on. Lemme crunch the numbers.”
I know I’m asking for a lot. And materials for a boat, eh? Seeing how the boat I have now costed me 35,000 serin, something three times… hell, even four, five times as big would run me about 170,000. Honestly, in that case, it’d be over my budget. I don’t even have that much money.
“… can you c’mere?” “Sorry?” “Can you come here?” “‘Here’ as in the first town?” “Right.” “I could make the trip, but it’ll take a while since I’m in Second right now.” “Right.” “You want to meet up, right? “… right. And if possible, bring the other two along too.”
I glance over at Shouko and Yamikage and pause to think.
“Can I run the idea through my friends first?” “Sure.” “And in that case, when would be good for you?” “Anytime is good. I’ll open my stall at the same place when you get here.”
—Sheryl has left the chat.
I’m still a little fuzzy, but at least we’re a step in the right direction. … it’s tough speaking with someone who’s so quiet.
“How did it go?”
The two of them ask me. Gotta explain it to them that our plans have changed.
“I got ahold of her, but it seems like we gotta help out in crafting.” “Whatever do ye mean?” “Well, I’ll cover the funds, so don’t worry about that. That’s not the important part.” “Then?” “We gotta meet the woodworker in person. She says she wants to meet both of you too. I said I’ll leave that choice up to you guys.”
She said, “if possible,” so we’ll see what we can do. I don’t think she’ll force us all to meet her. Well, if you asked me though, I’d like for us to go together.
“Then let us go together.” “Aye, aye.” “Y’all sure? I kinda feel like I volunteered you guys to go already.” “I’m sure. I don’t so much feel forced by you, Kizuna, but I also have no other plans.” “For I am your shadow, Misses Kizuna and Hakoniwa, I will always be behind you two.”
I guess I should be happy? But at the same time, you kinda sound like a stalker. In any case, our plan now is to head to Lurolona. Even though we said it’d be inefficient, we still went to the Forest of Eternal Darkness that night. We’re just playing it by ear.
