Welcome Captain Anderson and First Officer Connor!

About a week and a half ago I came up with dbh civil aviation au, as I absolutely love jetliners. So I decided to combine both of my interests! :D

More details about the setting are under the cut!

In the 2020s, a new aerospace corporation emerged - “Cyberair”. Originally starting from light jet construction, but later in the 30s they introduced narrow-body aircraft to the production line, as the result of rapid growth and market expansion. However, throughout the years their idea remained the same: “Reliable and comprehensive automation”. Cyberair jets are everything, beyond what a modern aircraft can offer, and is capable of. Truly a creation of the 21st century.

The latest Cyberair venture – state of the art autopilot. Identical to humans in its appearance, yet so different in behaviour. It’s efficient, reliable and doesn’t make mistakes (almost. At least human ones). But to tell the truth, this development is expected – ever since the late 20s Cyberair started to slowly announce machine cabin crew, even gifting a unique RK200 air traffic controller model to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

Delta Air Lines received their own one-of-a-kind autopilot, a RK800 (FAA approved!) model. How? Well, something about the Cyberair CEO liking their service. After a few papers signed and a few hands shaken, Connor embarks on his first real flight as a First Officer.

No plane flies without a captain though, so Connor has company. And a superior. Even if machines are better than people in piloting the plane in almost every way, human ego and fear, maybe, can’t let them be in absolute control. “Uncanny valley” or something.

Captain Anderson is a highly experienced senior pilot at Delta. Most of his career he has been flying Airbus aircraft, piloting A350-900 in the later years. Although because of Connor working with him now he has to pilot Cyberair regional or light jets from time to time. Oh, those signed papers be damned… He misses his dear A350.

Their relationship had a rough start, with the captain calling Connor “an attempt of capitalism at stealing my job”. But Hank couldn’t help but warm up to the FO the more flight hours passed. There was something so… alive about him? No, in aviation you only trust your instrument panel, and here all of the facts loudly state that Connor is simply a RK800. This is definitely some Eliza effect shit.

Why is he so interested in the A380 then? Doesn’t he have all of the aeroplane data neatly stored in his head? What surprises Hank more is something akin to confusion on Connor’s face every time he gets overly excited about the giant of the skies. Maybe he’s surprised by his new-found interest, too. At least there’s something Hank can tell him about from the old days (ah, proud A380 pilot) during long transatlantic flights.

1. How many works do you have on ao3?

2. What’s your total Ao3 word count?

2,436,430 words (jfc hahah)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Ever? Listing them in vague order of when I started writing for them: Supergirl, Wynonna Earp, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Grace and Frankie, This Way Up, Once Upon a Time, Madre Solo hay Dos (just on Tumblr), Abbott Elementary, Hacks, and Julia

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

ALL of them are Supergirl from back in the early-ish days of the show when it was a pretty massive (by femslash standards, I suppose) and very active fandom! It's actually so interesting seeing how absolutely nothing I've written in more than half a decade even shows up, since I've largely switched to smaller fandoms since then.

But the top 5 fics by kudos are:

Stronger Together, a collection of one-shots for various Supergirl ships (with a few gen fics mixed in), which has nearly 5k kudos (WILD to me as someone now in a fandom with maybe 25 people total haha)

Welcome to the Gayborhood, my first ever fic, a looong Sanvers and Supercorp professor AU that still keeps the alien/supernatural elements of canon

6,500 miles away...but getting closer, a Sanvers epistolary fic that my wife and I actually co-wrote and posted 1 letter/email per day every day for many months

Noise Complaint, a Sanvers next-door neighbor AU that, hilariously, given its placement in the top 5 here, is what catalyzed a series of events that led to me very much leaving the fandom (and fandom writ large for nearly a year)

Supercat Sanvers 2020, a Sanvers and Supercat political AU that was maybe one of the last long-form works I wrote before moving out of DC!

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I really try to! Sometimes if it's from a person I know well, I end up responding via DMs, esp if there are questions about what comes next, plotting elements, etc., that I don't necessary want everyone to see while the fic is still being posted, but mostly I try to respond on AO3. I've gotten a bit worse in the past few years just because I'll manage to eke out a bit of time to write, which puts me behind on my work, and then I don't leave myself time to respond, and by the time I DO have time, it feels awkwardly late to do so. But even if I don't respond, I absolutely love/cherish/adore/etc. every single kind comment I've ever been given <3

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Forgoten, but not Gone - a Sanvers amnesia AU set post-breakup that's heavy on the angst with a rather ambiguous ending. I got talked into writing a part 2 that resolves the angst haha, but taken on it's own it's definitely my angstiest ending!

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Huh idk! Most of my fics end on fairly happy, if a bit open, endings. I'm not a big fan of having all the loose ends tied up, and I realllyyyy don't do the marriage/2 kids/white picket fence epilogue, so I guess maybe the political AU has to be up there because it actually envisions a world where a queer woman wins the presidency on a progressive platform, and that feels rather utopian 🙃

8. Do you get hate on fic?

Not in a while, though I used to back in the days, like super vitriolic shit (big fandoms with too-big emotions, man... which has really kept me away maybe forever from those kinds of fandoms!)

9. Do you write smut?

Haha very much so. I've written and posted before about why, but I really believe there's so much interesting character work and exploration that can be done by exploring characters' pleasures, their desires (both thwarted and realized), their fantasies, etc. Obviously smut isn't the only way to do this, but fanfic feels like one of the few venues where it's a real possibility!

10. Do you write crossovers?

Nah, not really. I've written a handful of bring characters x and y into the universe of another show fics, but that feels mostly different. Every so often I'll borrow vague character outlines for tertiary characters in other fics just to see if folks recognize them (had Grace Hanson as a grumpy background character in a Sanvers fic set at PT for instance hah)

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Once or twice, but we got them taken down

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yeah, one of my SG fics was translated into Russian! I'm not sure if it's still up (tbh I can't recall which one; it's been a long time!) I've also had a couple podfics now made of my fics, one of which I still need to go listen to when I get the time!!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yeah! The long-form Sanvers epistolary fic my wife and I co-wrote together, and a group of Supercat authors got together and did a delightfully chaotic round robin, each writing one sentence, then setting a timer for the next person to write the next sentence, etc., until we had Intergalactic Standard Cuddling

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?

Oh man, I really don't know that I have a favorite! I really appreciate what various ships can offer me at different times - there are certain themes that make sense to explore with one pairing but not at all with another, or certain AUs that work in one fandom but not really in another. Basically, if a show is giving me multiple female characters who interact in canon in ways that go beyond existing near each other, I'm intrigued, and if these characters actually get depth and complexity, I'm probably in! There are, however, some ships that I might not end up feeling fannish/creative about even though I love them as ships (I talked a lot to @trying-to-get-somewhere-real about this recently, actually!), so it's hard to name a favorite when the metrics get all wonky!

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?

I don't want to say never, but I have a Cat-centric fic that'll end on Supercat that just has a lot of angst that coincided with a period of unexpected loss and grief in my own life in ways that have made it really hard to get back into even now (it just feels so...enmeshed with that moment, even though the timing was utterly coincidental)

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I do a good job with dialogue and getting characters' voices down - I'm really into the character side of things (which is also what gets me invested fannishly in shows! I want a show that cares about developing their characters first and foremost vs. a show where plot takes priority)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Certain kinds of action scenes haha - also I tire easily of writing things that feel repetitive to things I've done/written before (this was more of an issue when I took prompts)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Largely, this isn't something I've had to deal with much outside of maybe a few phrases and sentences from multilingual characters. I've talked before about how it was actually the language/translation barrier that kept me from writing for Madre Solo hay Dos. I don't speak Spanish, and getting a show entirely via the Netflix-provided translations meant 1) I was fairly certain there were some word choice/dialect peculiarities I was missing, and 2) I couldn't catch the rhythms of their speech, the cadence of their voices at least in ways that corresponded to the specific words. For me, voice matters so much, and it really felt like a barrier to not have access to the source language because I felt like I couldn't do these two women justice!

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Oh I've answered this elsewhere with 2-3 works, and tbh I don't think it's changed since then! I'm actually far more interested in others' favorite fics of mine because it's so interesting to think about the question of *what* sticks with a person from yours (it's often so idiosyncratic!!)

Last month I beat my personal record sleeping 22 hours straight!

So, I've known about Guilty Gear since at least 2013 when I found Holy Orders posted somewhere. For the life of me I cannot remember where I actually first heard it (probably Tumblr) but I REALLY liked it, it was so different from anything else I'd heard up until that point. I was broke as shit in 2013 and my only option to listen to it more was to pirate it. The only download I could find was the GGXX Sound Alive album by A.S.H., but that album's really good, which is fine. Somehow I still actually have the files from that original download lol.

I didn't look into the games back when I downloaded that album but I don't think I would've enjoyed the series as much back then anyway. It was right near the end of my "anime is stoopid I'm so cool and edgy and only consume media for ADULTS" doofus phase. Isn't that hilarious to look back at?

Anyway, fast forward to December 2020. One of my friends wanted me to get into BBTag and IIRC Sony was having some kind of Japanese devs focused sale at the time. I still have the text I sent when looking up BBTag where I saw the Xrd Sign box art and I said something along the lines of "Idk who this Sol Badguy is but he looks like a me character." We've since gone back and pinned it in our group chat. It was like the klaxon going off before a big storm, in hindsight lol.

Then Strive came out last year. Our D&D group's DM got it (he comes from Street Fighter) and then the friend who wanted me to look into BBTag got it. He asked me one day if I wanted to watch the story mode with him since it was only us online and I wasn't doing anything so I agreed. I'm so grateful they included that encyclopedia for the story mode because we had to pause it every line 5 minutes to figure out what something meant haha.

The actual scene that REALLY got me hooked was when most of the cast are in the White House briefing room before Chaos shows up and they start talking about sending agents out or whatever. IIRC they mention agent Dokken first and I was like "Haha! Like the band!!" and then they mentioned agent Stryper and I was like "Holy shit they really did actually mean the band." I've got albums from those two on cassette lol. After that my friend and I went through the encyclopedia and I told him about all the classic rock references lmfaoooo

Now here we are. My brain is so rotted by this series but so many beautiful mushrooms have grown out of that mush in my skull that I've accepted it.

Ok I’ll try and answer your questions as best as I can! Hope they aren’t to long and that the answers help you 😅

1. Well I think I wrote my first few fics when I was like 14-16. But if we are talking about in adulthood I posted my very first fic September 2020 for Mayans MC. I wrote for them for a long time before I moved on to write for Bucky which my first fic for him was posted on April last year. So I really haven’t been writing fanfiction for that long I feel like.

2. Well I have had this blog for about a year now but I’ve actually only been actively writing here for only a few short months I think. Last year I was really on and off from this blog but came back for full time around February this year and now I’m here to stay! Currently I have 4139 followers and I really don’t understand why in the hell so many are following hahah, but I am really grateful that people are following my weird self <3

3. It really depends on what is happening in my life with school and all that. Right now I’m very busy and tired so I’m not writing as much as want. But it can usually take everywhere from a few days to even a few weeks (I’m a very slow fucking writer and I hate it so much because I have all these ideas I want to write and so little time)

4. Right now motivation has been a little low due to school and a few other things that’s happening in my life but what really makes me motivated is when people leave feedback on my fics! That’s when I really get the urge to write more! Also it can be really hard to get into writing a fic but once I’m in it! It goes so smooth like 80% of the time so it makes you want to finish it!

5. Google Docs! When I began I used to write directly into Tumblr but Tumblr is a bitch at times and would delete all my work from the drafts 😡 so I would highly recommend that you find a writing app to write on.

6. ITS A FUCKING STRUGGLE!!! I’m doing a lot of school work atm and it’s just so hard to stay motivated to write! But I manage to write maybe like 100-300 words a day. So it’s something at least. I think it’s just taking it a day at a time.

7. I call it the 3 am curse. I’ll put my phone away and finally try to fall asleep when my brain is suddenly like WE HAVE AN IDEA! I KNOW ITS SLEEP TIME BUT WE HAVE AN IDEA! So then I have to find my phone again and write it down so I don’t forget🥲 idk if that’s for everyone but a lot of my ideas come from that so thanks brain I guess. But also moodboards or just single images are a great way to get inspired. A few of the moodboards I’ve made have turned into fics so that’s a great source for inspiration!

8. Well 😬 I was not 18 (I was probably like 16 something) looking back at it it was really wrong but you know nothing I can do about that now😅 but I wrote my first official smut in 2020.

9. I would say, and this is something I try to remind myself of all the time, is find your own writing style. Don’t worry and compare yourself so much to others (I know it’s hard! believe me!) but I really think the most beautiful thing about fanfiction is that it’s all so different. Like yeah a lot of people write the same tropes or pairing but it’s the way they write it that makes it unique! The way each individual writer words it or construct the sentences is what makes it so different. I believe fanfiction would be so boring if everyone wrote in the same way (at least for me). I hope this made sense hahah. ALSO TAG YOUR FICS! That way it reaches more people. You are more than welcome to see how I tag mine because I do believe the tags I use are very effective to get my writing out to as much people as possible (at least I think so!)

Back in 2020 I wrote a 41k word novella and it was called Journalism with the Boys and years later it's not actually thaaaat good but I'm still proud I did it!! Anyway, I uploaded some chapters to DA but it didn't get much attention back in the day but I've still been thinking about it and rolling it around in my head. The ideas I have now are a lot different than how it was back then. I think about it all the time and finally, years later, I actually finished fully finished and nice look reference art for them hahah.

Journalism with the Boys centers around a group of four guys trying to get an old newspaper off the ground and learning to get along with each other along the way. Courtney's grandma is on her deathbed and wanted to see her father's old newspaper be successful, driving him toward getting several issues out and enough subscribers to make his grandma proud. Hugo, a close friend of Courtney, agrees to join as he already had interest in journalism as a small internet personality. They both need the help of Grandma's assistant, Dakotah, to keep things in order. Then, when Grandma starts needing more of Courtney's attention, Jack is hired to keep things running smoothly. The four don't always get along at first but through trials and tribulations they manage to become a close nit group of friends.

Jack was abandoned at a fire station when he was only a few days old. He went through several homes and had major behavioral issues which deemed him as being "too much". Jack settled in one home with a single mother for several years. He was able to follow her rules and go to church enough to satisfy her until he was 18, where their relationship became strained and he left. He was diagnosed with a mood disorder and was able to receive enough government assistance to help him stay afloat.  Though now that he works at a dead-end gas station clerk job he's itching to achieve greater with his life.

Dakotah was the result of a one night stand. His mother was a very popular stage actor but after her pregnancy she became chronically ill and unable to continue her work. He attended as many extracurricular activities as possible as to avoid going home, which resulted in him becoming rather handy. As soon as he was able to, Dakotah moved out, though it resulted in him living in his car for some time before the owner of the consignment shop he worked at found out and offered for him to work for her as a personal assistant. He now helps her do errands, cleans the house, maintains her property, works for the consignment shop, and helps liaise for Courtney's newspaper project. Dakotah rarely finds himself with personal time, but he must keep pushing forward if he wants to be independent and successful, unlike his mother.

Courtney grew up in a troubled home. His parents often fought, especially after his father had an affair which resulted in a child. When Courtney was only 15 he got his girlfriend pregnant, which finally got the attention of his grandma. Grandma took Courtney under her wing and helped him prepare for fatherhood, though it never followed through, as his girlfriend died during childbirth and it was deemed best their daughter be given up for adoption. Courtney got his act together quickly in Grandma's home and strived for greater things. Now he works part time in a diner alongside perusing his masters in the STEM field all while taking care of his Grandma's declining health. Hugo lived in a small country town on a farm for most of his life. However, that didn't keep him out of trouble. He fell in with a group of delinquents in his town and caused a lot of trouble for the community. It got so bad at one point that the judge gave him one last chance to get his act together before he was given jail time. Hugo faced the biggest grounding of his life where he discovered a love for books, video games, and the Internet. When it came time for college he wanted to go to a university across the state, which his parents encouraged in hopes it would help him make new friends and stay out of trouble. It did, as he soon met Courtney and excelled in his college classes. Hugo would love to go home and visit his family again to show them how much he's grown, but fears his reputation is too damaged to recover now.

Let's Talk About Beer

I just had a bottle of beer and suddenly I feel so nostalgic and creative juice feels like flowing through my mind. Too bad I got no more beer for now hahaha.

Among all other alcoholic beverages, I like beer the most. In fact, I don't really like alcoholic beverages other than beer. Well except pina colada. But beer, it offers unique sense for your taste bud. I know, my preference might not look cool for a young woman haha.

Funny thing, I only started to grow fondness for beer a couple years ago, to be precise in 2019 or 2020. It was a simple crazy night in with my 4 friends. One of them was currently back from Germany and of course she brought the beer drinking culture with her as well hahaha. After several sips, turned out I started to enjoy it. And after that, my relationship with beer started to be better. How was life before that? Well it was fine but sometimes sucks. There was a night when I hang out with a friend in a beer garden, he ordered a craft beer, and unfortunately I couldn't enjoy it. Too bad, I know. My present self really regrets that, because she would definitely love that bottle of beer. And even that friend also gave me a big bottle of Heineken beer as a farewell gift, which you know, was a hard one to drink up.

Now, I've tasted several types of beer, even though I don't remember all those type and I'm nowhere near to be a beer connoisseur (but I aspire to be). But I had several memorable drinking memories. One of them is trying the Breman Brewery and Resto in Gianyar. It is a brewery house and they have some unique tasting beer, like mango. The beer was good.

Also, a memory of drinking craft beers at Lola's Beer in Sanur. It was a place of my first date with my current boyfriend (it feels so lovely).

To think about it, beer somehow could become a sentimental beverage for me. A lot of good memories I had was accompanied by a glass or a bottle (or even a tower haha) of beer. And it indeed gives you a sense of relax without getting too drunk (I like to stay sober).

Anyway, one of my bucket list is to go on a tour in a brewery house. I want to learn more about beer. Also, one of my managed merchant now sells brewery machine and tools, who knows I can try to make my own beer at home hahah.

After talking about all these, I want to create a dedicated post about beer introduction, but I need to do some research first. See you!

Did you get like an app or something to start slow? Because when doing workout you have to be REALLY careful. Well you did start slow i guess because you only walked for a few hours and drank water, right? Just that? Because i think the best to do if you haven’t worked out in a long while is just to set like small goals (e.x: walk X amount of kilometers/X amount of hours) to get the body used to it, otherwise every inch of your limbs, and even your ass will hurt HAHAH

And if you’re going to start running or something to work out i suggest you also schedule yourself properly for that and start a program or an app or something. Back in 2020 when i was 24/7 anxious for some personal issues i needed to release all that energy and stress i had a threadmill that i used EVERY DAY, but i never used the proper posture to run neither i had proper equipment (like running shoes as silly as it sounds) and now, if my herniated disc isn’t something caused by my bad posture (or other possible things) it’s because of all the time i didn’t properly exercise SO BE REALLY CAREFUL BC WORKING OUT IS EITHER YOUR BEST FRIEND OR YOUR WORST ENEMY AHDHFJFK 💀💀

For us say if you get marks which don’t seem right like say you know you’ve done well and expect a 100 but get like a 40 or something you can send the paper for rechecking but if the difference isn’t too much people normally avoid it because they feel marks might get cut during a recheck .

it's the same with us!! you can ask your paper/exam to be reread, but not a lot of people do it as far as i know because there is also a risk of your grade coming back lower😭 for my IB exams in 2020, our papers were reread as an entire year though, because the grades came back very low😕

I saw this idea on Instagram, and knew Mikayla and I just had to do it. It took us a bit of time to gather the supplies and format so many book covers, but we finally spent a night crafting! Each ornament contains all of the books I read during that year. I did one for 2021 and one for 2022. We printed the small covers onto sticker sheets, put the stickers on both sides of a sheet of foam paper, and then cut them out.

The mini books are SO freakin cute. Now I just need to put the year numbers on the outside somehow… probably vinyl.

Mikayla read like 225 books in 2022 alone, plus she also wanted to do one for 2020. So she has a lot more work to do hahah.

Anyway, they turned out perfectly and it will be fun to remember the books when setting up the tree every year. ❤️📚

So for your questions... I guess they can kinda be answered as one... My sister @haniehae has been a carat since 2015 so she always showed me stuff but I never really got involved you know? Jump foward to 2020 and the world comes to a stop, we start to watch more stuff together, namely the Hit The Road documentary... I would stay up to watch with her, then during the week waiting for the next episode she started to show me some more shows... I basically started to catch up on all their content and she had the perfect excuse to watch it all again hahaha (The one show that made me slip into the diamond life more than any other was 13 Castaway Boys)... Lets just say by the end of Hit The Road I was already a self proclaimed carat (cant really pin point an exact moment tho)
