Holy hell, since when Damian became such a party guy? XD
Shush, Alfie. Usually I will agree with you, but let the boy interact with others, killers be damned.
This issue’s theme is “Damian’s social skill gets a huge boost”. Truly a delight. Also finally I see him laugh after a long time, my baby T_T

Hope in the Sheets.4
Tumblr media
[Masterlist]
Beta: N/A Pairing: Hoseok x Reader Genre: Friendship, Comedy, Soft boy, Fluff, SMUT, Friends2Lovers,
Summary: You held many titles: his neighbor, colleague, wing-man… well, more likely a wing-woman, yet most importantly, you were his best friend. You had been friends since you were born. Between the two of you, you were younger; barely, but he never let you forget it. He always seemed to ruffle your hair and tease you, which could get rather annoying but he made up for it by treating you to things. What if a drunken one night stand between you and your best friend Hoseok leads to more complicated situations? Your reckless twenties are cut short as you find yourself suddenly responsible for something a little more.
Warning: Reference to a previous sexual encounter, pregnancy, Toxic Family.

You were sitting at the bar drinking your fourth glass of orange juice, the sweet citrus flavour was really hitting the spot. Laying your head onto the polished shiny wood you could see the dance floor lit completely. Jimin swept the floor and mopped it diligently, of course they cleaned up thoroughly when they closed the bar but Jimin prefers to clean again.
You felt a fondness blooming in your chest watching Jimin dancing around with the mop in hand. Yoongi was setting up and testing each speaker individually and testing out his equipment.
There were two hours left before the bar opened and Seokjin began ordering some food, Jimin got a text as he was putting the mop and now empty bucket away. Yoongi leaned over to read it —That guy had no shame— “Hoseok is on his way over”
“Really?” You asked a little nervous to see Hoseok so soon, you hadn’t even figured things out, you weren’t ready to see him.
“You sound surprised but we have pizza night every second friday” Namjoon smiled exiting the staff room, smelling clean and fresh his hair combed back.
A part of you happy for the oncoming pizza boxes heading your way. Seokjin began by placing a container in front of you, you opened it excited. A large part of you hoping it was some fried chicken, only to see plainly seasoned roast chicken and vegetables.
Seokjin had already started acting protective, reading the pamphlets and telling you, you can’t have barbeque, raw fish, deli meats or soft cheese. So you were enviable of their pepperoni cheese heaven.
“We haven’t had pizza night since before the renovations behind the bar, did you see the difference compare to last month when you had come in?” Namjoon added unmoving as Jimin gracefully spun around him heading towards the door unlocking it for Hoseok to come in when he arrived.
“I don’t really remember much about that night and what I do know I have tried to repress” You couldn’t help but pout looking at the plate of beans, you could eat most veggies but beans were the worst. You pushed the plate away and Seokjin pushed it back and you looked up with puppy dog eyes and he shook his head.
“He could not have been that bad,” Yoongi said, missing the exchange between the two of you, especially the way you were making rude gestures to the manager. “I have danced with Hoseok, he knows how to grind.”
“What’s all this?” Namjoon said, sitting at the table and looking over the pamphlets Seokjin was reading. “Who is pregnant?”
“I didn’t want to tell you?” Seokjin looked at Namjoon his lips pursed the way they do when he tries to keep a straight face, “but I am pregnant”
“Haha, guys can’t get pregnant” A small voice chuckled and you saw a familiar face. He was freshly showered and looking well dressed in black boots pants and button up.
“Oh everyone this is Jeon Jungkook, Seokjin and I hired him to help with the door and any rough housing” He gave a nervous smile, looking around. He opened his mouth to talk when the front door opened. Jungkook turned squaring his shoulders only to be deflated by Jimin carrying drinks “Jungkook sit down this is Hoseok”
You smiled pulling out your seat to the left and gesturing for Jungkook to sit. Hoseok faltered whilst removing his jacket for a moment, questioning why you had let Jungkook sit on your left. Genuinely sorry, you gave him an apologetic look. He laughed and walked across to the bar where he pulled out a pair of your spare shoes from his bag and placed them in the staff room. You found out last time that he was the one leaving your shoes at the bar but to actually see him do it was really sweet.
“Do you work here as well Noona?” The apprentice bouncer asked pulling your attention away from your neighbor and best friend.
“No, I just stop by every Friday for pizza night”
“But you're not eating pizza?” He raised an eyebrow.
“I will trade you some beans for a slice” you grinned and he nodded picking up a slice and turning to you and freezing “um… maybe not”
“No, you need to eat healthier,” Seokjin argued.
“But they are disgusting!” You whined letting your head fall back.
“Eat them or no ice cream” He stood up heading behind the bar for a tub of ice cream that was used for special cocktails.
“ice cream?” You almost gave yourself whiplash with how fast your head lifted.
“Eat the beans and you get ice cream!” He said sternly and Hoseok moved around the table and stole a bean. “And no help from Hoseok” huffing and putting them in your mouth grumbling as you chewed.
“That wasn’t so bad was it?” He said
“I hate it, the texture is wrong, it’s not food”
“But you did it, so what ice cream would you like?”
“Cookie dough?”
“Can’t have raw egg, I got chocolate, vanilla and strawberry”
“We have coffee too…” Jimin’s voice died out with the glare Seokjin gave.
“This house is a prison” you frowned, throwing a stray bean at Seokjin and he laughed handing you a bowl of chocolate ice cream.
“Hey are we partying tonight?” Hoseok asked around a mouth full or pizza, how could he be so damn handsome even when he is doing the weirdest things. “Ah but you haven’t gotten changed from your work uniform”
“No, I am just having dinner and heading home, tonight” you sighed “doctors orders”
“Oh well I guess, we can go out another night or something” he said being polite and waiting for you to talk about your doctor's appointment, Hoseok never pried with things like this. Jungkook was a charming young man and Yoongi asked for a dance.
It was Yoongi’s version of bonding, he held your waist and gently moved to the music and you laid your head on his chest. “You okay?” He asked the gravel in his voice was almost purr like and woke you from your daze.
“Just tired” the words mumbled as you hugged his torso, his heart beating a steady rhythm.
“You are thinking too much, no more thinking tonight, just go home and get some rest and think some more tomorrow” pulling away he looked you in the eyes taking your face in his hands he kissed your forehead. “I will support you and your body no matter the decision”
“Thanks Yoongi, I decided I’m not going to get the prescription. I think a part of me already loves them way too much” touching your lower belly, allowing yourself to be a little excited, if only for the moment.
You were worried and you should be. This was a big deal, but something about the support the boys gave you made it almost exciting. You began to day dream about a baby just like Hobi running around your apartment and cringed, taking the child to school on the bus before going to work.
Blanching at the thought, you needed to put the baby first and your life right now wasn’t good enough to support a family. It was time to stop thinking single and start thinking like a mother.
Maybe Yoongi was right, it was time to stop thinking, get through the night and plan everything tomorrow. With you in tow Yoongi led you back to the other, he placed your hand in Hoseoks and told him to take you home.
Hoseok nodded getting your coats and thanking them all for dinner, he reassured Jungkook he was in good hands and told him to relax. Hoseok helped you dutifully into your coat looking longingly at the bar you frowned feeling bad for him.
He took your hand in his warm one and walked you to the door opening it for you like a gentleman. He noticed how miserable you seemed and took your hand racing down the sidewalk until he arrived at a small convenience store.
“Wait here.” He turned to you and paused looking you over with a smile “you look really pretty today”
You visibly reddened a considerable amount enough so that Hoseok noticed grinning and ran into the shop. Watching his head pop up over the aisles as he ran back and forth, you had no clue what he was looking for but clearly he did as he raced back and forth not once appearing lost.
He emerged with a biodegradable bag filled with an assortment of midnight snacks. He opened the bag letting you peek inside. “I got all your favourites, we can go home and watch some late night telly or one of your favourite movies”
Your mood skyrocketed. Grasping his hand, swinging it enthusiastically on the way home. Hoseok stepped between you and a group of men smoking and drinking on a bench. He gave them a curt but polite ‘good evening’ and continued guiding you along.
The two of you made it to the door seeing the door had been pried open. “Again, I hate this stupid appartment, let’s hope they got bored before they reached our apartments.”
They got to their doors and thankfully noticed that they were not broken into. “We need to add a few more locks on the doors.”
“Or you know move” You laughed
“Come on the rent is almost nonexistent and the pizza shop is in sight, what else do two bachelors need in their lives.” He laughed flopping onto your couch and grinning at you upside down.
You placed the snacks into a bowl and placed it on the coffee table as Hoseok began flipping through the channels. “Knocked up is on you wanna watch that?”
The scene that happened to play was at the restaurant where Katherine Heigl announces she is pregnant and the father makes a witty clueless remark.
“No thank you,” Your tone was clipped and he thankfully changed the channel.
“Yeah it’s a bit overplayed. What about Juno, it just started?” He shrugged
“Nah,” You said, sitting beside Hoseok laying against him and closing your eyes to push back tears you were overwhelmed.
“Animation numbness?” He asked, turning on your Disney plus you laid there without opening your eyes “anything?’
“Yes” He put on his favourite ‘Peter Pan’ and pulled you up to lay against his chest sensing you were not quite alright. He sang cutely in your ear along to ‘We’re following the leader’ with the children on the television.
You got to the part where Wendy sings ‘You’re mother and mine’ before the tears started to fall. Hoseok noticed the way your chest shook against his and sat up. “Hey Little Darling, tell me what is wrong.”
“Everything.” You sniffed burying your face into his chest and he patted your head threading his hand through your hair soothing the raging emotions.
“Tell me little darling,” He whispered softly, trying to calm you and give the support you need. “Is it about the doctors, are you sick, is something wrong?”
“No nothing, it’s fine,” The finality in your voice made him go quiet, of course he was upset but he respected your decision and just held you. “I think... I might go to bed.”
The abruptness of your decision made him sit up, “Are you sure, I can stay and I won’t pry”
“I really should sleep, this is something I have to figure out by myself and then I can talk to you okay,” You said standing and he nodded standing grabbing his coat and heading to the door. Before you could shut the door he turned pulling you into a hug.
“I am here for you okay, don’t try to do it on your own, not when I am here and willing to help you, okay” he looked at you grabbing your shoulder and making sure your eyes would meet his before he continued “I will be by your side no matter what, trust me okay. I love you sleep well”
You would be lying if that I love you didn’t hit a little different, you nodded “Thank you Hoseok let me process and then we can talk okay.” Shutting and locking the door you began taking a few deep breaths. There was undeniable comfort from Hoseok’s words and it made you believe everything was okay.
Taking out your phone with shaky hands you searched for a name you hadn’t contacted in a long time, even their name in your phone was mocking you. You clicked ‘Mum’ followed by the small phone icon before placing the phone to your ear.
Your hands trembling, you didn’t know what to do. You heard your mother answer with her familiar underlying snobbish greeting.
“Good evening?”
“Hey Mum,” You caught yourself before your voice cracked, never giving your mother the satisfaction, “What are you doing?”
“Nothing, what do you need?” Her voice clipped and you bit your lip trying not to fight, this wasn’t why you were calling. You journeyed into the bathroom feeling a little sick, your mother always brought your anxiety back ten fold.
“Nothing, I was just wanting to tell you…” You squared your shoulders and stared at yourself in the mirror. It was a challenge, you were telling yourself to be a proverbial man. “I am pregnant.”
“Of course you are, you wasted your college degree by becoming a carny and now you are pregnant. I was waiting for you to stuff your life up more. And what now you need money, to help get rid of the thing, come home and we will take care of it. Maybe this will be a reminder to keep your legs shut”
“What the fuck is wrong with you, I am an adult don’t ever contact me again, because I sure as hell am never going to” You hung up placing your phone down and the sickness faded like a weight off your shoulders your mother was not a part of the equation.
Walking to the kitchen you sat on the breakfast bar stool and pulled out a book and began writing out a plan. There were things you needed to do. Of course telling Hoseok was important but you were planning without him. Because if he rejected you and this baby well then you were on your own.
It was always best to plan for the worst case scenario. A better house; the baby cannot live in a broken down high theft studio apartment. A drivers license; you definitely couldn’t take the child to school on the bus everyday before going to work and as for work you needed a serious job. You paused; these were the first important things.
Opening your laptop you began looking at houses and loans, saving tabs and looking at a driving school, there was no time to party. Texting Seokjin ideas he told you he would help you with some of the lessons and you were grateful that he would help you.
[Jimin: Hey, I thought...] [Jimin: And feel free to stop me but...] [Y/n: Spit it out Jiminie] [Jimin: I might have a better job for you, I just thought that the theme park would be too physical and at somepoint you won’t be able to lift and such.] [Y/n: Oh wow, I hadn’t thought about the lifting and standing business but I did think I would need more money and a real job, what do you have in mind?] [Jimin: You are qualified for it and it is a desk job, that pays well.]
You kind of felt good about everything, Jimin gave you an application for the desk job and depending on what you heard back you would have to give your two weeks notice at the theme park.
[Jin: As tomorrow is Saturday, How about your first driving lesson?] [Y/n: I mean sure, I have booked in to see the Realestate and I have filled out papers for a home loan, I can’t live here, it isn’t safe for a child.] [Jin: I will be there in the morning and I will drop off some healthy meals...] [Jin: I am slaving away in this kitchen so you better eat them.] [Jin: We don’t want the little one getting hungry, okay?] [Y/n: Okay, I get it. We will drive and look at houses tomorrow don’t be late] [Jin: I am never late.]
Seokjin was really getting into his role as fake father. But it made you feel like you had some sort of support behind you and that made you happy. You were exhausted laying on your single bed and decided not to dwell on things any more that evening.
Tumblr media
The next morning Seokjin knocked on your door, upon opening he looked at you with horrified eyes, “Your front door has been smashed in, why do you still live here?” He huffed placing bags on the bench, “you better understand that I love you, look at all these dinners I prepared”
“Thank you Jin, for everything, I really can’t thank you enough right now” You hugged him and he held you a little longer than normal perhaps waiting for you to break down.
“Are you ready to go?” Seokjin said, opening the front door to reveal Hoseok standing there looking absolutely confused.
“Go where?” His voice croaked a little evidence of his recent rising.
“We are looking at houses” You said nonchalantly, “Do you want to come?”
“Sure let me get dressed,” He ran back inside and Seokjin looked at you cautiously and you nodded. The three of you got into the car and Seokjin began instructing you to drive and you were doing pretty well even Hoseok who is scared of almost everything was calm.
You all spent the day looking and discussing houses and your price range and the possibility of a home loan, Hoseok just listened. He seemed amazed by the length you were going to, just to get a home or at least that’s what it felt like.
You looked at different houses and you knew which one you could afford but you couldn’t help but dream about one of the more expensive ones that they had accidentally showed you. Even Seokjin and Hoseok saw you smile when you looked at the places.
The last house you looked at was overrun with grass weeds and trees, garbage in the yard, a broken window and everything needed fixing but it was the cheapest.
The neighbourhood wasn’t bad, but the plumbing was, there was no electricity either which meant you had a lot of work cut out for you. Nothing could compare to your dream house, it had french doors to a back porch and a large backyard with a neat garden.
After inspecting each property you went back to the real estate office and stood outside in the fresh breeze while the agent made a few calls about your loan flexibility. Seokjin went to get coffee from the Cafe just down the road and to enter the real estate office when Hoseok grabbed your arm gently and blushed apologetically, “Hey can we talk just really quick?”
“Sure Hobi,” Your eyes scanned his sheepish form and he opened his mouth but quickly shut it, “What is it?”
“Is it about the break in, I can totally understand if it is, We can find a new place together, something nicer, and with more space in a better neighbourhood.” He looked flustered he wanted to express so much he was fumbling over his words, “Just I don’t want it to be cause of something else, I don’t want it to be about me, or something I have done”
“Hoseok, I have something to tell you,” Your heart was beating out of your chest, “I got some news from the doctor and well I have to get my life in order because this is serious Hoseok”
“Oh god!” He clutched you in his arms, “Don’t say you are dying, please anything but that, I can’t live without you”
“No Hobi, I am pregnant, I have to get my life in order, I can’t raise a baby in a broken studio eating tinned food, I need a proper job and house and…” He pulled back to look at you in a mix of shock and relief “I am scared, and alone”
“You are pregnant, like really pregnant?”
“Yes, and I am pretty much disowned too, so I have no help from home and have I said I was scared because I am shaking” You sniffed tears falling and he held you
"I will be there for you" He smiled, “We can get a house together and raise a baby. Wait. Who did this?”
“I got you a smoothie cause you can’t have Coffee” Seokjin smiled handing a coffee to Hoseok and a smoothie for you. You saw Hoseok’s eyes slid to Seokjin and flick back to yours.
“Him?”
It looked like Hoseok was about to punch him when the Agent stepped out and guided us back into the office, I spoke with the bank and they said you are only eligible for the broken down bomb site of a home.
But amongst the deadly glares of Hoseok and the disappointment on Seokin’s face at the bank’s refusal to lend any more he went to speak. “What about if I add a Ten thousand dollar deposit?”
“No, No deposit I will take it. I have some time to fix it and I intend to.”
“You can’t live there, it is creepy.” Hoseok said
“I can and I will, I have to make a safe environment for a baby Hobi, I can’t sit around in our apartment and wait for someone to stab me in my sleep, I have fate in my hands and I am taking it” You walked into the realtors office and signed the forms, the house was now yours.
You sighed stepping out of the realtors and Seokjin said, “the boys and I will help you clean up”
“I can get some of the guys from work” Hoseok said, appearing more like he was trying to outdo Seokjin, instead of genuinely helping. Either way you were thankful for their help.
The clean up was going to be a huge task and you needed all the help you could get.

on yuri, on flynn. ‘
Tumblr media
when yuri / flynn are okay. the boys are okay. tina, you’re getting a tag. hmu if you don’t want it i laugh because we both hate ims but if you’re fine with it i’ll just do that rn tbh! lily being straightforward as always.
but...i can finally reblog this hurt comfort art i found just for this occasion. as a yuri and genuinely someone who relates to him without projecting i can fully say i obviously i LOVE trolling flynn and my friends know i roast and defend him in equal measures. they’re good people and they honestly suffer enough tbh. i hope they rest one day.  ?  but i’ll be the first to defend him even if i can be hard on him. friends know i am very hard on flynn in the game and also go analytical for once about it and i don’t like thinking too much tbh. more a doer. yes, i actually really care about flynn’s character. i just am bad at conveying it.
i don’t really expect anyone who writes flynn to go easy on me and i can take that. these two realistically hurt each other horribly and they’re trying their best to fix their world. one took an agonizingly heavy burden and job no one wanted and the party pretty much is like ‘lmao yuri this is the worst job man’. the other took the public eye and is stuck p much forever in the spotlight and can’t show weakness unless they both retire at some point. and he literally has the legacy of his father on his back? and yuri has the outside world to bear.
i mean it’s unrealistic i realize in the end to think one or the other, one of them does dirty to the other when they just...they want the other always to be okay. there’s no power imbalance i mean personally i write yuri pretty dominant in his relationships without overpowering but not because he’s superior. he’s a very strong-willed man? however you see them, i can see all ways, and i’ve really over time with a LOT of time loved them more as kinda star crossed dumbasses? yuri loves flynn as a best friend first but the road to liking them like THAT took me forever.
he will always be in any relationship, his best friend. he will never harbor resentment for him doing what he feels he has to if yuri strays from that unwavering, ‘pure justice’. and yes, he’s not just a hero but a criminal, and yuri owns that and flynn owns his mistakes. so i feel i have to defend both. not just be your unapologetic yuri stan.
while it’s such a hard thing to watch, their initial most of the game journey...and how they fall and distance, i don’t think they’re an unsalvageable relationship and i’m a brutally honest realist. i don’t need to tell you guys that i think it’s obvious yuri / flynn in any form is insanely important to me just as much as any other tov bond. i mean, a lot of the ring a bell stuff pretty much is talking about them falling apart and wanting to get the other back however you see them. but JUST AS MUCH  i also think it talks about the entire cast / yuri’s relationships as a whole, and like or dislike, yuri and flynn are a huge theme to the game. so it’s both for me? like it genuinely phases even me who tries not to get very emotive about...things in general because reasons but, watching their descent and fall into not talking and being livid at each other to not smiling and laughing is meant to make anyone feel miserable. because you know they want each other to be okay. and they’re both so stubborn.
but i admit like...it’s nice to see how flynn always fondly in spin offs is like ‘haha you remind me of my friend.’ like it’s a running theme that flynn openly and unashamedly hints at how fond and how much he cares for yuri. i mean the story sure, makes it hard to make it ‘normal’. they’ll never be normal. but they are yuri and flynn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it’s nice how yuri always in the party is harsh / never gives him leeway on flynn because someone has got to get on him when he’s overdoing it. but also really fond in his mannerisms. how estelle says flynn says ‘he can never ignore someone in need’. how yuri looks fond and says, ‘well you tell him he’s the same way.’ so yeah it sucks! to watch them throw stones at each other when you know they’d die for each other. in any form! and idk. i just gotta defend their relationship because it isn’t just flynn. nor is it all yuri’s fault.
this got long but. in any form, yuri / flynn has and is very important to me like all the tov relationships are for me and it took me a while to actually warm up and ship it beyond the fandom representation? but my own y’know? mostly because i disagreed with how i saw yuri being.. done but hey i don’t own him.
flynn gave just being his best friend and the angry kid ‘outside the wall’ his home beyond old hanks and the kids he led before flynn showed up and...beat the shit out of them and earned yuri’s respect and even his tightly guarded, absurdly kind heart. which tbh makes yuri suffer more than anything else. his selflessness and kindness. miss me with yuri being a bad person lmao, he’s far from it.
and frankly neither is flynn or why would yuri keep at it? yuri is a good judge of who a person is. flynn makes him proud and he watches over him even if it’s far away. and probably pranks him with joke mail. :’ ) which probably has flynn scifo screaming from zaphias all the way to be heard from dahngrest.
so yeah i do want them to be happy! it just will never be normal or easy. but to say they hate each other or make each other at their core, miserable is... i don’t think that’s quite it. you never make someone just ‘one thing’. relationships are complicated. yuri / flynn is a great fictional example of one that is full of love and also...a lot of trauma and hurdles.
basically while i’m ‘team yuri’ in terms of agreeing with him? i will be like yuri, in flynn’s corner and also like yuri...get mad at him LOL. because however you see it he’s a huge part of yuri and a major chunk of him. just like brave vesperia. but no one can take flynn’s place just because yuri has a pack now. neither cancels the other out in yuri’s life.
flynn has a permanent massive spot in yuri’s heart.
and he always will. and yuri will always, always watch over him.

Ron Weasley, Peggy Carter, Raven Reyes, Will Turner.
Oooooh some good ones I don’t think I’ve ever been asked about!
Ron Weasley (my BOY)
overall: who? / i hate them / i dislike them / kinda wanna fight them / they’re alright / i like them / i love them / *accidentally drops thousands of pictures of them*
opinion: again, who??? / the purest bean / cinnamon roll / who knows really / sinnamon roll / the problematic fav (in the BEST way because I love how human his flaws make him)
otp(s): Romione
other ship(s): I can see the appeal of Rarry
#noromo ship(s): Harry/Ron are the BESTEST of friends and people need to stop forgetting how joined at the hip these two are. They share a brain. Also I love him with Luna because they both genuinely like each other and find each other funny and are both absolutely thrown by the other thinking they’re genuinely funny, which is cute.
crack ship(s): I mean he 100% had a massive crush on Krum but I don’t know if that counts as a crack ship
fav headcanon(s): Ron is the Mom friend. He shows his love by taking care of people. He’s a huge touch guy - he’s constantly giving people hugs, pats on the back, etc. Sometimes when he knows Harry’s feeling down he’ll just shove his way into his bed and cuddle him - it happens even more after the war, and sometimes Harry will just look at Ron and Ron knows that means it’s Hugging Time. They get so comfortable with it that they’ll just sit there in a conversation with someone else with Ron just hanging off Harry and neither of them acting like it’s a big deal.
He learns to love to cook for his family and provide good food for them like his mom did for him. He’s the one that learns most of her recipes and they spent a lot of time together in the kitchen after the war. The only one who can make food as good as their mom, the Weasleys all agree, is Ron - which is good, because Hermione is an abysmal cook.
He’s the one that takes a more active role in taking care of his kids too and the household duties. Not because Hermione won’t, but because her job ends up being so taxing and Ron loves taking care of his family and kids. (He does talk her into setting a strict schedule for herself though. Sundays are family days and unless a new dark wizard is back, she is not allowed to touch any work for the whole day.)
(I could keep going but I’m going to stop myself.)
Peggy Carter:
overall: who? / i hate them / i dislike them / kinda wanna fight them / they’re alright / i like them / i love them / *accidentally drops thousands of pictures of them*
opinion: again, who??? / the purest bean / cinnamon roll / who knows really / sinnamon roll / the problematic fav
otp(s): Cartinelli
other ship(s): Steggy, though I’m not the biggest shipper and I ship it a lot less post Endgame haha, Peggy/Sousa
#noromo ship(s): her friendship with Jarvis is so GOOD and I love them
crack ship(s): none that I can think of
fav headcanon(s): She 100% played a role in Tony’s life and nothing will tell me otherwise. She was (awkward on and off again) friends with his dad. She was besties with his caretaker/true father figure. She was definitely Aunt Peggy to him and adored him.
But to make a lot of Tony’s characterization and the fact they never see each other in the MCU work, I imagine they had some sort of falling out - either around the time Peggy seemed to have her falling out with Howard or after Howard’s death. Or maybe after Jarvis’s death. I imagine Tony pushed her away and eventually they hardly talked anymore. It’s one of his deepest regrets. He didn’t go to her funeral only because he felt like he didn’t have a right to.
Peggy is a terrible cook but really great at all other household chores and super handy. She refuses to call anyone for help when things break and will get them back in working shape through the power of her will alone. When she lives in the women’s apartment building, she gains a reputation as the person you should call if your fridge breaks down or you need to hang a new shelf or whatever. She gets a lot of requests to come fix things and she always does. Sometimes the other women try to pay her and she always refuses, though sometimes she’ll accept her pay in the form of homemade treats. One time she got a full pot roast for fixing someone’s heater. Usually, she just likes the women to keep her company and chat with her while she works.
Raven Reyes
overall: who? / i hate them / i dislike them / kinda wanna fight them / they’re alright / i like them / i love them / *accidentally drops thousands of pictures of them*
opinion: again, who??? / the purest bean / cinnamon roll / who knows really / sinnamon roll / the problematic fav (again, in good ways! her flaws are great!)
otp(s): none
other ship(s): I’m coming around on Braven; also see the appeal in Raven/Echo and Raven/Luna
#noromo ship(s): her and Murphy are little shits together and I adore their friendship; also her and Echo, her and Monty, her and Emori (basically her and all of Spacekru)
crack ship(s): I get the whole Raven/Anya thing haha and wish we could have seen them interact
fav headcanon(s): Raven spent a lot of nights growing up over at Finn’s place instead of her’s to avoid her mom. His parents fully accepted her and treated her as one of their own, always willing to let her stay there, though there was a lot of tension between them after Finn got locked up. Her mom would often trade her rations away for booze, so Finn usually split his rations with her growing up. Raven also started offering to fix things for people for payment, even before she was officially working as an Ark mechanic - usually for food. If you had something broken that you knew the Ark government wouldn’t give a crap about, you knew to go to Raven Reyes, who’d probably fix it better than anyone else the Ark would’ve sent anyways.
She and Murphy end up bonding a lot on the Ring about their mothers and their childhoods. They talk a lot about what it was like to have to scrape by for food when your own mother didn’t seem concerned with feeding you. They relate to each other in a way none of the other Ark-borne kids on the Ring do.
She has nightmares of ALIE long after the AI is gone, horrible dreams where she watches her own body move without her and do terrible things to the people she loves. She stops wearing the color red for awhile, even though it used to be her favorite color.
Will Turner
(I’ve never been asked about him!! Yes thank you!!)
overall: who? / i hate them / i dislike them / kinda wanna fight them / they’re alright / i like them / i love them / *accidentally drops thousands of pictures of them*
opinion: again, who??? / the purest bean / cinnamon roll / who knows really / sinnamon roll / the problematic fav (yes, he’s all three)
otp(s): Willabeth
other ship(s): Will/Jack
#noromo ship(s): also Will/Jack
crack ship(s): Will/Calypso!!!! lmao he is her new ferryman
fav headcanon(s): Will accepts his new duty as ferryman for the dead and never wavers in it, and so he never is cursed or starts growing things out of him and yes I am ignoring the movie that shall not be named because it’s BULLSHIT. He is a kind ferryman. Davy Jones is terrifying, the sailors say. He’ll drag you to his locker as you scream for mercy and trap you in never-ending torture. But then when sailors die at see, a young man with kind eyes and a soft smile approaches them instead. “It’s time to move on now,” he tells them, and when the sailors say they don’t want to, he asks, “Are you scared of death? It’s nothing to fear really. But there is another option if you’d like.”
No one is bound to his service. They can stay on his crew for as long as they’d like, and when they’ve finally had enough and they tell him they’re ready to move on, he let’s them.
Calypso is well pleased with him. She comes to visit him often and he always has tea (and rum) on hand for her when she does. They usually gossip about Jack.
Great picks!! Thanks!!

Note
Have you ever heard “for you” by tonight alive? it’s pretty sappy, but it has such strong birdflash vibes “for you I would fly without wings/and for you I would run like the sun chases the moon”
I must admit, this is the first piece I’ve written that feels fluid for a long time. Thank you for sending me a song, it is a lovely one (definitely screams Birdflash, haha!). For everyone else who’s sent a request, I swear I am still slowly working on them, and I promise you’ll get a little something as well. :)
Birdflash drabble #4 - A little more than best friends
No warnings aside from the risk of cavities… Ah, and no beta’d and written by a messy non-English writer hahaha.
It started as a simple conversation, a simple idea Donna threw in the air and that the team picked on. With the summer holiday coming to an end and the first day of school approaching fast, the five friends decided to have one last evening of fun before getting dragged back to the dull yet stressful routine that came with every Septembers. Sitting at the terrace of their favourite cafe, each shared their desires. Garth suggested going to the lake now that most tourists were gone, Roy was fine with anything as long as he could bring his itty bitty daughter. Wally wasn’t very picky, unlike when they organized outings that were related to restaurants. Dick mentioned wanting to make a bond fire, and Donna only wanted to go someplace where she could expand her portfolio by taking pictures of the scenery.
“Alright so let me just summarize what we have so far.” She had kept track of everyone’s wishes by scribbling down on a napkin. “We are looking to go somewhere with a place to swim, somewhere that’s safe for little Lian and where it is okay to make a fire.” Her friends nodded.
“Wally doesn’t care as long as we bring enough food for his bottomless stomach.” Dick, the youngest of the team, snickered before he and his best friend began a playful “poke war.”
Donna gently tapped her bottom lip with the end of her pen as she thought of a place that could satisfy everyone.  "Oh.“ Her eyes light up. “How about we go to the Moonstone river? I went there once with my photography class. Granted, it is a bit of a treck to get there, but it fits pretty much everyone’s request. And we could camp for the night.” Donna watched as her friends thought about it and seemed to agree on her proposal. With a smile, she announced: “Then it’s decided! We will meet early on Thursday and spend the night there.” Each rose their drink and cheered.
It was already sunny when the group met at the entrance of the provincial park. Dick was the first on sight when Donna and Garth arrived. Roy followed shortly; his daughter held his hand and hopped as she played imaginary hopscotch. As always, Wally was the last one to get there and was shy of being half an hour late. Funnily enough, Lian was the one to scold him for taking so long.
The walk up to the river took the group two hours to complete, which was relatively fast seeing how often they had to stop either because Donna argued she wouldn’t forgive them if they didn’t let her take that one perfect shot of birds and wildflowers, or to entertain the toddler who occasionally got tired of walking. With Lian riding his back, Wally became her private “horsey” and was ordered to run up the slope as fast as he could.
“You’re slow, West.” Of course, Dick had to tease him. And of course, Wally took it as a challenge. The two began to walk with long strides, teasing the other when one gained some distance. The rest of the group watched them hurry, shaking their heads as they were used to their silly shenanigans.  Once they reached the top, Wally and Dick were out of breath with Wally sitting down and Dick leaning on his knees.
As expected, the provincial park’s river was beautiful. The water trickled down the rocks and reflected the sun; it was surprisingly not too cold to the touch. A few people had already claimed some spots around the water, but it was relatively calm, and the group didn’t have trouble finding their perfect place to camp. Putting their backpacks down, Garth and Wally hurriedly undressed and jumped into the water with Wally immediately regretting it. “It’s cold!”Meanwhile, Roy helped his daughter take out her clothes and gently applied sunscreen to her sensitive skin. The young father talked with his child, a relaxed and fond look softening his face. Dick watched them from afar, smiling and remembering how his father used to speak to him with a similar expression before passing away. At the same time, Donna was already taking pictures of everyone. She always said that the best photos were taken au naturel. A big, wet golden retriever whose smile could melt the iciest hearts ran up to her to greet her while ignoring his owner’s calls.
“A puppy!” Not even after a blink, Wally was next to her on the floor and hugging, kissing the wet dog. “Who’s a good boy? What’s your name? Where do you come from? Are you having fun?” He talked with a high pitch voice which caused the dog to wag its tail even harder. “Donna! Donna! You better immortalize this beautiful creature with your super photographing skills!” Ah yes, Wally sure loved dogs. But his canine friend noticed someone else and without a goodbye, ran past him to jump on another unexpected victim. Dick was halfway into the water, showing off his ricochet skills to Lian,  when the golden retriever jumped next to him, making a splash big enough to soak him entirely. There was a couple of laughs as the teenager’s cheeks turned a little pink.
When the evening came, the sun began its journey to the west, leaving the sky like a palette of pink and blue. Most of the people had left earlier, and eventually, the team had to say goodbye to Mr. Snufflekins the golden retriever who had “helped” them collect enough wood to start their fire. Once it was big enough, the five friends began to prepare their meal: hot dogs cooked over the fire and roasted marshmallows. Because most of them had a competitive nature, they decided to make the marshmallow prepping a contest; the person who made a marshmallow with a delicate crust on the outside, but still soft in the inside would be crowned king or queen of the fire. And because the truth always comes out of a children’s mouth, Lian was designed as the judge for the contest. Carefully, she took a bite of each marshmallow, looking as if she was degusting them with the taste bud of a real chef. Finally, she proclaimed her overly burnt entry as the winner and no one dared challenge her choice. Laughter and horrible singing attempts filled the silence of the night. Garth was the first one to fall asleep, hugging an empty backpack and a kid playing with his hair. Wally dared Roy to draw on his face but was disappointed when he learned of the lack of marker.
When dawn came, Dick was still awake. Sitting with his arms loosely hugging his knees, he watched as the moon and the stars shared the sky with the rising sun. The trickle of the river along with the melody of the songbirds made everything so peaceful. Most of his friends were still asleep, having consumed too much food, energy and, yes, a couple of beers. Someone sat next to him, yawning loudly and stretching. “What are you doing up so early? I thought you were a night owl?” Wally asked as he followed the younger man’s gaze.
“And miss this?” Dick grinned, listening as Wally hummed next to him. They remained like this for a while, comfortable with the silence that settled between them.
“You know, I think I might have a little too much to drink yesterday.”
Wally turned his head toward his best friend. There was a slight tint of pink on his face. “Yeah?” Dick’s smile was soft, and Wally felt as if his blue eyes had captured the stars and the moon for they were shining with something magical. Wally felt drawn to him; his hand moved to gently cup his best friend’s cheek without him realizing. Dick’s skin felt cool to the touch, and Wally could feel him accept the touch as he pressed against his palm. Something was happening, he told himself. There was a spark in his eyes, a zing in his heart. It was just like any cliche movies described it, and Wally wondered if Dick was feeling the same thing.
As if Nature was encouraging him, Wally leaned a little closer as the breeze gently pushed his back. There was a moment of hesitation as if neither boys knew what they were doing. “Dude, can I…” Wally started. For once he felt at a loss of words. Dick’s hand rested over his as he nodded. Shortly after, their lips were sealed, and their arms moved so they could embrace each other tenderly. The moment only lasted for seconds, but to them, it felt like a lifetime.
“I guess that makes us something a little more than best friends,” Dick said, his voice a little unsure. Wally gently lowered him to the ground, holding him as if he was a porcelain doll who could break with any sudden movement.
“Who said we can’t be best friends and something a little more?”

Episode 19: The Yang Fleet Goes Out
Tumblr media
April 797/488. Since Yang saw right through Reinhard’s plan and warned Bucock in advance about the impending coup d’etat, Bucock is able to st—haha no just kidding, Bucock does literally nothing and Reinhard’s plan goes off without a hitch. Whoops. What Yang somehow failed to predict is that the leader of the newly established National Salvation Military Council is none other than Admiral Dwight Greenhill, aka Frederica’s dad. (Hey, we told you LoGH dads suck…) The one useful thing Bucock managed to do was sneak some paperwork through that gives Yang legal authority to quell any hypothetical military coups, so with that in place to ease his conscience Yang mobilizes his fleet toward Heinessen. Meanwhile, Reinhard and Kircheis stand on the bridge of the Brunhilde holding hands for long enough that the other admirals must have felt they were intruding.
The Yang Fleet
Tumblr media
“I can’t imagine the Yang fleet without Lt Greenhill. Just like I can’t imagine the Yang fleet without Rear Admiral Cazellnu or Commodore Schenkopp. Lt Cdr Poplan. Admiral Attenborough. Lt Cdr Konev. Rear Admiral Murai. And so on, many many people. If anyone were missing, it wouldn’t work. Admiral Yang must understand that as well as I do. I know this could be called sentimental, but for me the Yang fleet isn’t simply an organization. Iserlohn is home, and I think a home should hold a family.” —Julian’s Iserlohn Diary, p. 284
In the animation of the season one ED (which incidentally is one of my personal absolute favorite things in the show) we see Yang and Julian moving through the stars as though on some cosmic conveyor belt while other members of the fleet pass by and greet them. We’ve watched this scene over a dozen times by now, playing out behind the closing credits of almost every episode, a whimsical vision of the group that would come to live together on Iserlohn.
...Or is it so whimsical?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Near the beginning of this episode, set to an instrumental arrangement of the opening theme (the ED itself would have been too on-the-nose, I guess?), the ED animation comes to life on the walkways of Iserlohn: Julian and Yang moving not through the stars but through the fortress, as first Dusty and then Poplan and Konev chat with Julian, under the smile of Frederica and the disapproving glare of Murai. The sequence culminates with the arrival of the Cazellnus, and we have all the clues to know why this is so important: Finally, for the first time, the entire cast of the ED is united on Iserlohn. The family of the Yang fleet is complete.
Tumblr media
The Cazellnus
As heralded by this walkway sequence, the focus of this episode is the personalities and relationships that make up the fleet on Iserlohn. So let’s delve a bit into this ragtag cast of characters that Yang’s chosen to assemble, starting with the Cazellnu family.
Tumblr media
Total screentime for Hortence ticks up from one second to two! This is for our own protection: If you stare at Hortence Cazellnu for more than an instant at a time, you fall under her thrall and your mental faculties are forever compromised. That’s canon* and explains a lot about Cazellnu. *See diary quote below...
Tumblr media
Aww so cute, Julian playing with Charlotte and her little sister the unfathomable hell-demon whose quest to enslave humanity can only be thwarted by discovering and uttering her true name.....
Tumblr media
“Yang kindly calls me a ‘master of cleaning and tidying.’ From his level it might seem that way, but from my point of view Mrs. Cazellnu seems like a ‘white witch.’ [...] When I said this in the morning, Yang nodded emphatically. ‘That must be true. She’s a white witch, and her husband is a dark wizard. After he lost a magical duel, he became her servant forever.’” —Julian’s Iserlohn Diary, p. 107
I’ll talk more about Hortence and the dynamics of the Cazellnu family when we do finally get to see her for more than one second at a time; for now let’s focus on Alex Cazellnu himself, whose only real role in this episode is to insult Yang at every opportunity. Ahh the bonds of friendship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yang claims to be excited that Cazellnu’s there mainly because he can push mountains of paperwork off onto him—Cazellnu’s official post is as some sort of manager of supplies and personnel; but I imagine that for Yang, who’s been thrust into this position of authority that he never really sought, there’s something comforting about filling his inner circle with people who don’t treat him with reverence. Cazellnu is an old friend who, in some ways, sees Yang more clearly than most people do.
Tumblr media
Isn’t there a proverb, “children and fools tell the truth”...?
Schenkopp
Tumblr media
Hey, isn’t that what I said about Yang when I first introduced him? Schenkopp must be reading Icebergs!
Like Cazellnu, Schenkopp has no qualms speaking his mind to Yang; unlike Cazellnu, who sees Yang as more or less an open book, Schenkopp sees him as a puzzle to be solved. He’s appointed himself Yang’s amateur psychoanalyst, and prods him on issues ranging from Frederica’s feelings to his political aspirations (or lack thereof) to his wishes for Julian’s future.
Tumblr media
True to form, Yang responds to this implication that Frederica has feelings for him beyond her role as his adjutant by completely ignoring it and deflecting the conversation to how Schenkopp sees him.
Tumblr media
While later on it will be mainly Cazellnu's role to question Yang's decisions about his personal life, it's Schenkopp who questions his political and strategic decisions. Yang's discomfort with the direction of the conversation is very clear on his face.
Tumblr media
I've touched briefly before on the fact that Yang is projecting his own feeling of being trapped into the military onto Julian, and that's what Schenkopp is accusing him of here.
Poplan and Konev
Tumblr media
“Their personalities seem to be really different, but every time I catch sight of them they’re together, so I guess they’re close.” —Julian’s Iserlohn Diary, p. 20
We only get a brief glimpse of Poplan and Konev in this episode, but there’s a ton of character in this short exchange: from their synchronized body language, to Konev’s affectionate smirk as he watches Poplan talk to Julian, to Konev’s roasting Poplan using syntactical terms that Poplan doesn’t seem to totally understand. (Konev’s wordplay and love of language is a recurring theme of his character and I totally love it.) We’ve observed their closeness already when Konev calms Poplan down during a stressful battle; here we learn that Konev also does not hesitate to teasingly call Poplan out on his bullshit—in this case, attributing to Julian his own desire for action.
Julian
Tumblr media
I agree Julian, that is a really great assessment of the strategic situation.
We’ve seen Julian in the role of caretaker, shadow, and aspiring protector; but this is the first time we really see him in the role of protégé. When Julian points out how difficult it will be to quell four rebellions on different planets at once, Yang responds by asking him for his ideas, then taking his suggestion and filling in the holes.
Tumblr media
While Yang is obviously acting as the teacher here (and equally obviously enjoying it), he talks to Julian without condescension; even pointing out the flaws of his original suggestion feels like a sign of respect for him as a serious student of tactics.
Tumblr media
The transition from wide-eyed adulation to a much more serious “why yes indeed that does appear strategically sound” face is amazing.
Of course, despite including Julian as a real participant in a conversation about the upcoming campaign, Yang simultaneously still treats him like a kid, ruffling his hair at the end of this conversation just like he did when Julian promised to protect him two episodes ago.
Tumblr media
Like a kid or possibly like a puppy, one or the other.
Also mental note: Do not suggest to Julian that Yang might not actually win an impending battle…
Tumblr media
“It pisses me off. Despite flattering him with names like ‘Miracle Yang’ and ‘Yang the Magician,’ when push comes to shove they don’t show faith in him. I was so angry, I almost forgot my crucial errand of buying teabags.” —Julian’s Iserlohn Diary, p. 289
Frederica
Tumblr media
TFW you’ve just learned your dad has forcibly overthrown a democratic government.
It’s a rough episode for Frederica. From what we know she seems pretty close to her dad, and perhaps partly because of that she assumes that his role as leader of the coup will throw suspicion on her loyalty.
Tumblr media
Lost in translation is the fact that she changes her first-person pronoun, correcting her initial watashi to the more formal/humble shoukan (小官), which emphasizes her formal role here as a military subordinate.
Of course, Yang is way too practical to punish someone for something her father is doing (especially someone whose job saves him a hell of a lot of work), and as both Julian and Schenkopp predict he has no intention of firing her.
Tumblr media
We don’t get to see much inside Frederica’s mind about her reaction to her father’s role in the coup, beyond her initial shock; what we do see is overwhelming relief and happiness when she isn’t fired. Between her father and Yang, it’s clear where her current loyalties lie.
Interestingly, Admiral Greenhill himself gets this wrong: He assumes that Yang will have fired Frederica and confined her on Iserlohn, which is part of his rationalization to himself for sending the 11th fleet to fight Yang—they won’t be attacking Frederica because she won’t be there.
Tumblr media
...Whoops.
It seems like a minor detail, but Admiral Greenhill failing to predict Yang’s reaction is actually a really nice touch to emphasize the theme—as expressed by Julian’s diary passage that I opened this post with—that there’s something a bit different and more personal about how Yang runs his fleet.
Stray Tidbits
I hope you’ve enjoyed the exclusive Icebergs sneak peek at Julian’s Iserlohn Diary! As I mentioned, the diary, like the novels, is not officially relevant to our analysis, but I really love that the anime team used it to flesh out the dialogue and characterizations in both episode 17 and this episode—it’s more evidence of just how well they did their homework. (And hey, if you want to read the whole diary in English, write to Haikasoru and tell them you know someone who’d love to translate it for them.....)
I never found Admiral Greenhill especially interesting through the whole season so far, but I really love the closing scene of this episode—somehow it gives me chills every time. Acting to minimize harm in a situation with no good options is a pervasive theme of the show; and as Greenhill tries to explain to his wife’s grave, he believes that if someone more hotheaded and extremist were leading this coup, even more damage would be done. It’s an interesting parallel with Yang’s own motives for staying in the military despite opposing the war.
Tumblr media
I love how totally useless Bucock was. LoGH is often quite subversive in its plotting, as we’ve discussed, and the anticlimax of Yang going to great lengths to warn Bucock about the coup in advance only to have that be irrelevant is both hilarious and realistic.
Tumblr media
This guy makes a valid point.
Tumblr media
Might that “someone” be...an octopus?? Come on Hidive subbers, why the censoring?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next time you shake hands in farewell with someone, try just not letting go for exactly seven seconds. And also look at them with exactly Reinhard’s expression here. Do it. Report back.
Tumblr media
You have been blessed with Beautiful Smirking Schenkopp. He will bring you luck in all of your endeavors today.

Longing
Morning had set heavily over the Shire, and with it, came the work and bustle. Many hobbits- both male and female bustled around the town, shopping, working, and just enjoying the simple pleasures of life that laid out before them.
“Azalea, stop daydreaming.” An elderly, feminine voice called out, stirring the young hobbit from her thoughts. Azalea Primrose Took had been watching the usual morning scene out the window of Yolanda Puddlefoot’s hobbit hole.
“Yes, ma’am.” The younger hobbit remarked returning her gaze to her book, studying over the history lesson that Yolanda had provided her today. Though this hobbit was of age, Yolanda had taken it as a personal mission to educate her the best she could. She had a feeling unlike the rest of the lot here, this one might just need it.
“Yolanda?” The sunflowered color haired hobbit called out softly as she casted her blue and violet eyes to the woman, once again distracted from her studies. “What do you suppose Rivendell is like now?”
The elderly woman, with hair turning the palest hue of snow, pondered over this, as she set her tea kettle over the fire. “I have heard rumors, but nothing more, my child.” She remarked, as she picked up the fire poker that had rested against the stone hearth and stoked the embers.
“I have heard it is but merely a shadow of it’s former glory, and I have heard it doesn’t exist there anymore.” Yolanda replied shuffling over to the hobbit, gently patting her golden curls as a warm expression shone in her ageless eyes. “There is but one way to know for sure what has happened to it, no?”
“And yet, how would that be?” Azalea pressed, tilting her head as her curiosity took root, replacing her normal bright and cheery disposition. Yolanda had her attention in full now.
“That, my dear, Azalea, would be for you to go and find it!” She laughed, her matronly stature warmed with her mirth.
This brought a giggle from the young hobbit, clearly amused by what Yolanda was suggesting. “Yolanda, that’s so silly, a hobbit like me… going on an adventure to find Rivendell? It’s simply…” She trailed off, biting her plump, rosy, lower lip. She had often had dreams at night embarking on a grand adventure… but she was not alone. These dreams had turned into daydreams, often leading the hobbit to be spacy when she really needed to be down to Earth.
“Yet, I know what burns in your heart, it is the same desire that burned in your grandfather’s, do not give up on it-” Yolanda had began to advise when there was an urgent rapping on her door.
“Azalea!! … Azalea!! Are you here?!” A high pitched but definitely feminine voice called out from the other side of the door, all the while they still rapped on the door!
“Yes, yes, Saffron! I am here!” Azalea laughed, hopping to her feet as she quickly went to answer Yolanda’s door before her friend worn out the exterior of the door.
Standing on the other side of the door was a lady, very close to her own age, a friend she had since they were both little babes. “Saffron Brown!” Azalea laughed, hugging her friend who stood just a few inches shorter than her.
“Azalea!” Saffron remarked, her voice high like a songbirds. “You ARE coming to the town dance tonight right?! I know you are not playing with the band, so I was hoping you might come and keep me company??” The smaller hobbit pleaded as she bounced from one foot to the other, upsetting her dark chocolate curls in bounces.
Azalea shook her head, a smile gracing her lips at her friends antics, though she knew it displeased Yolanda to have her time interrupted. “Of course I will Silly-Saffy, I wouldn’t miss it for the world… say, how about we spend the lunch hour discussing what we might wear?” She offered, tapping her thumb thoughtfully against her lower lip.
Naturally this offer made Saffron all the more giddy at the aspect of girl time. “Yes yes! Perhaps… Ms. Puddlefoot would be as so kind to let you out for early lunch? You will be in need of as much energy as you can claim for this evening?”
Yolanda watched as the two girls turned on her, dogging her with their best puppy-eyed pouts. “Fine! Fine!” She finally caved, waving them off knowing she’d never get the end of it if she had not let them go. Plus, what could it hurt? There was always tomorrow for Azalea to finish her lesson!
With that notion passed, the two friends quickly hustled out out of Yolanda’s home, and out into the bright sunlight. It was a welcome sensation feeling the sun warm their tanned skins.
“Where do you want to go for lunch?” Saffron inquired, as they walked down the bank that lead into the heart of the town. This hobbit with her striking brown hair, had beautiful blue eyes… yet, despite this, she was unable to catch a suitor… or even garnier attention. Azalea suspected it might be because they were inseparable for the most part.
“How about we hit Thornburrow’s pub?” She offered to Saffron, thinking perhaps this pub might be a good place. Thornburrow’s was known for it’s porkpies, the best in the entire Shire! Not to mention one could get a side of biscuits doused liberally with Raspberry jam, or jam of one’s choice.
Saffron seemed to ponder over this for a moment, before nodding. “I could definitely go for some roasted chicken with some cheese, oh and an apple tart too!” She remarked wholeheartedly, almost salivating at the thought of the delicious food that awaited them!
The walk to the beloved pub was short, but lively with talk of this evening, and their hopes for what it held. They were seated, at a booth by the window much to Azalea’s joy, and were waited on promptly.
Their afternoon was uneventful. The girls bonded over a feast of a lunch, savoring each and every carefully prepared bite. When they finished the main dishes, they took a small break to let the food settle before a dessert of apple tarts were brought out. With dollops of fresh cream, either girl felt as if they had dined like a princess.
With full bellies, and hearts full of joy, they started the trek back to Azalea’s home. Azalea’s home was settled a bit… out of the way, as her Grandfather had liked his privacy after he returned to the Shire from his adventures. It was from him her father had inherited this handsome little hole.
The home was nestled into the side of the hill facing away from town, and with that, had a spectacular view of the valley. Heading inside, they were greeted with the warmth and coziness her mama had crafted for them with the way she had decorated.
“Welcome home Azalea, and Hullo, Saffron… how long has it been since we seen each other?” Azalea’s father, Tassilo, asked, mischief sparkling in his eyes. “Oh, I do believe it was yesterday!”
“Well, Mr. Took!” Saffron remarked with a bubbly laugh, her cheeks reddening at the teasing Azalea’s father was known for. “I can hardly say that should be a surprise, your daughter DOES kidnap me regularly!” She chimed, only to be playfully nudged in the ribs by her “captor”. “Haha, I mean she IS my best friend, you know?”
“Oh I know, Little Saffron, it has been this way since you were both in diapers… both of you getting into trouble.” Tassilo laughed shaking his head at the memory of these two bright, spritely ladies as the toddlers they had once been. “I assume you two will participate in tonight’s follies?”
“Ohh yes Papa, you know I love to go, I try to never miss it… the music simply calls me.” Azalea remarked, a dreamy expression settling on her fair features. “Play in the band or be on the square dancing… you know it always calls me.”
A soft giggle could be heard when Azalea admitted this almost wistfully. “You know, it almost sounds like you are being courted by the music!” She teased her friend, as she grabbed her by the hand and tugged her back to her room.
Azalea’s room was spacious, tidy, and clean. While Azalea did like some spontaneity, she didn’t like it when it came to the organization of her room- or… house. That was one thing she was indeed good at, keeping house. Then again, her mother had trained her since she was a youngun, to make for a good housewife! Ohhh the skills in gardening, knowledge of washing clothes and crafting them, the patience to keep house, and budding skills in cooking!
Yet, her mama never taught her how to dance.. That seemed to come naturally, along with her love of music!
“I was thinking perhaps something purple for me, and pink for you?” Saffron mused as she wandered over to her friend’s wardrobe. Truth be told, she had already picked out her own outfit, she just liked “dressing” her friend.
“You know I love pink… but don’t you think it might be too flashy?” Azalea inquired as she joined her friend, pulling out a vibrant yellow dress, admiring the daisy embroidery on it.
“Heaven’s no! Everyone else will be wearing yellows and greens, what is wrong with standing out?!” Saffron scoffed, tsking her friend as she pulled out a lovely soft pink dress. The dress was made of a soft, lightweight summer fabric, and had been embroidered with a simple and pretty design. “I think this, with a necklace and maybe some hair ribbons would be beautiful…”
Letting go of the yellow dress, Azalea turned to see the dress her friend had picked… She had to admit, it was lovely, and one of her favorites out of her entire wardrobe.
“How can I say no?” She gushed, taking the dress from Saffron and laying it out over her bed. She gently smoothed the beautiful fabric out, taking a moment to admire the beautiful embroidery work done on it. It was a feast for the eyes, she felt, and a wonderful to feel each and every little stitch under her fingertips.
“Sooo, what are you two ladies doing?” A male voice boomed from the doorway, catching both of the girl’s attention, clearly startled!
“Ohh… Kal, it’s just you.” Saffron remarked with a sigh of relief, clearly at ease seeing it was their lissome friend, the final member to this trio. He was a handsome fellow, this Kalimac Sandheaver, with hair the color of night, and dark green eyes.
“Perhaps, but it is your pal, who has a date, and what about you ladies?” Kal teased, a wicked grin curling upon his lips, forcing his cherubic like cheeks to rise. “Or… are my two comrades going together this time?”
“Sort of… yes?” Azalea laughed, running forth to greet him with a hug, while Saffron armed herself with a pillow. “Yes, we’re going together… but not
… Though I am starting to think I might need to play matchmaker for Silly-Saffy!” Azalea laughed, turning just in time to dodge a pillow.
“Well, what about you, huh? I don’t see you with anyone on your arm!” Saffron huffed, clearly embarrassed by the fact she hadn’t a suitor yet. “Or are hobbits just not your fancy..?”
The young, blonde hobbit girl was caught off guard by this question. “Well… I guess that’s because I dream of someone… And, I’m kind of waiting for them to come.” Azalea remarked scratching her head, realizing how silly that sounded.
Kal raised a brow hearing his friend’s odd predicament. “You’re going to wait on a dream?”
Blushing, Azalea looked between her two friends and the incredulous looks on their faces. “Yes… I’ve dreamt about them several times… no one else will do but her.” She whispered, looking down to her hair tufted feet, feeling a bit hurt by the way they looked at her.
Sad thing was… this woman in her dreams, she had never gotten to see her face, hear her voice… but the way she held her, touched her, it spoke volumes… and this was what she was going to wait for. “This is what I want to do, and I just can’t settle for anyone else… it wouldn’t be fair to them!”
“I get it girl, we just worry about you…” Saffron remarked moving to hug their pained friend, still a bit alarmed that she was in love with a dream. “Just… don’t wait around forever okay?”
Azalea pulled away from Saffron, shaking her head. “You just don’t know… you don’t understand.. But it’s okay, let’s just get ready for tonight?” She offered with a smile, wanting to change the topic.
“Ohhh yes, here we are sitting like a bunch of hens!” Saffron gasped, getting up to quickly push Kal out. “We’ll see you later, Kal!” She ushered as she shut the door behind him.
Now with their male friend gone, Azalea bid goodbye to Saffron whom rushed home to get ready herself. Now alone, with only her own heavy thoughts, and the memories of her dreams to keep her company as she dressed.
She came to stand in front of her mirror, seeing her reflection standing there in that pink dress, a slight bit of makeup applied, just enough to accent her natural beauty. She quickly fixed her hair, putting in some pink ribbons, before looking herself over once more before deciding this was good enough.
Stepping back, she looked to her window letting out a soft sigh. “I know you are out there… Please come for me soon.” She pleaded softly, before she turned and left her room, heading into the night.
Drawing her cloak around her tiny frame tighter, she looked up to the sky, watching the millions of stars twinkling brightly with promise. “I’m counting on you.” She whispered softly as she began the journey into the town square.
Walking alone with only the light of the lamps, she found her mind moving from her melancholy thoughts and to tonight, and the possible fun she might have with Saffron, losing herself to the music. Hustling along, she finally came to the town square, hearing the music wafting lively through the air.
A smile broke across her face seeing the town lit up warmly by candle light. Hobbits of all ages were out tonight, dancing as if tonight was some significant holiday, and not just another weekend day. It was a welcoming sight, to see all the people she knew here, escaping the average hustle and bustle of their everyday life, and enjoying  a night of partying.
“Azalea!” A voice giggled loudly from the crowd, and from amidst the throng of the dancers, Saffron appeared, grabbing her friend’s hands. “C’mon! Let’s go dance!!” How could Azalea say no to that?
Following her friend’s lead, she melded in with the crowd, letting the music take her, fill her with it’s joy. She moved, her feet light as the clouds that dotted the night sky, the very picture of exuberance. The small hobbit was in her natural element. In joy.
The next few hours she enjoyed to the fullest, dancing until she was worn and tired. She eventually joined Saffron on the sidelines who had tired before her. They sat and watched Kal, dancing to a slow song with his date, a lovely little hobbit girl whom he had just started courting.
“They really make a cute couple don’t they?” Saffron broke the silence, her tone wistful, clearly wishing for what they had. “One day we’ll have someone sweet on us too, won’t we Azalea?”
Azalea had gazed up to the stars once more, lost in thought. Somewhere, her person was under this same sky, perhaps looking to the sky too. “Yes, we will, it’s just a matter of time, I promise.”
Laughing, Saffron hugged her friend. “We should head home.. It’s time for lover’s now.” She whispered, to which the blonde hobbit agreed.
Standing up, the two bid Kal, and others goodnight before they set off for home. For a while the two walked together, talking quietly about their hopes for their destined suitors.
“Good night Azzie, I’ll see soon.” Saffron bid her goodnight before she turned onto the lane that lead to her home. Waving goodbye, Azalea watched her friend walk off until she was just a shadow among many before she continued on her own way.
The walk home left her to her thoughts, which kept her company even to the point she changed into a nightgown in the safety of her own room. Walking to her window, she finally shut the pane, casting one last longing glance in it’s direction before she crawled into bed.
As soon as her head hit her pillow, slumber embraced her, luring her to a long night of dreams. In the realm of her dreams, she finally found her lover once more, being engulfed into their arms, held tightly to her body as if she was fragile and a delicate treasure…
The hobbit’s body visibly relaxed. Even if this was how she had to have her for the moment, she would be grateful for this much… It was only until she met her in person. She knew it would be one day soon… Very soon.

Best Real Weddings of 2017 :: Dramatic Forest Wedding in Oregon :: Louise & Cameron
Next up in Our Best Weddings of 2017 is this dramatic forest wedding in Oregon photographed by Christy Cassano-Meyer…
When you get to look at gorgeous weddings all day every day, it’s not very often one makes you gasp out loud. I have never seen anything like this wedding – it’s part fashion editorial, part glamorously dark fairytale – one with a happy ending, of course! Louise & Cameron had their hearts set on marrying in the Pacific Northwest, where Cameron is from, but didn’t let the practicalities of a forest setting sway them from the romantic, elegant day they envisaged. This is no exaggeration – not only did bride Louise wear Oscar de la Renta‘s modern take on a classic silk ballgown and (stiletto!) Manolo Blahnik d’Orsay pumps to walk down the forest floor aisle, but she did it with live grand piano accompaniment! Dive right in now to see more of the seriously special day, and meet the couple who could not only dream of a black tie forest wedding but pull it off with such style.
The Ceremony
Why did you choose this location for your ceremony? We knew right away that we wanted to have our wedding in Oregon. No question. Not only because it is where Cameron was born and raised but also because we love the Pacific Northwest. Being born in the Philippines and growing up in Florida, I have always been around tropical places all my life, so when Cameron first took me to Oregon I just fell in love with the place. The tall trees, mountains and all the greenery! It’s just a totally different scenery from what I’ve always been around. Horning’s Hideout provided all that without being too far removed from the city of Portland where most of our guests were staying.
Your ceremony in three words. Fairytale, traditional, intimate.
What inspired you when you were planning your wedding? I’ve always imagined having a small intimate ceremony within tall trees. Birds chirping, a babbling brook – a very organic yet elegant feel. I wanted to stick to a classic and elegant look that was in a somewhat unconventional environment.
Is there anything else that you’d like to share about your wedding ceremony? One day, about six years ago, Clair de Lune by Debussy came on. I’ve heard this piece before but never the solo piano version. It was very unlikely of me, however, I started envisioning it as the song to walk down the aisle to! Yes, I have been dating Cameron already for some time by then, and yes, I may or may not have turned into ‘that girlfriend’ that also envisioned him at the end of said aisle. Haha!
Every time I heard that song, it always struck an emotional chord for me for some reason. I love classical music and there’s just something about the sound of a piano solo that I have always appreciated. So as bizarre as it may have been to get a baby grand piano in the ‘middle of the forest’ it was something I really wanted to include. Cameron was also all for it… and it turned out to be a great talking point amongst our guests asking how we managed to pull that one off. So with that said, I’d like to give huge thanks to all the vendors involved and of course to my amazing wedding planner J29 Events for turning this bride’s dream vision into a reality!
How did you go about planning your ceremony? Did you include any traditions? I had my ideas of what I wanted and then J29 Events helped with the planning and coordination to bring everything together. Cameron and I very much value sentimental traditions and heirlooms. We both wore rings that are very personal to us. My engagement and wedding rings are heirlooms from Cameron’s father’s side (they originally belonged to Cameron’s grandmother and great grandmother.) Cameron wore his late grandfather’s World War 2 Bombardier Ring, as he likes to do on special occasions. It’s his way of including Grandpa in special times like this.
On my end, I wanted to make sure the traditions from my Filipino culture were incorporated, because my parents, their parents (and so on) have also followed them. I wanted to keep that tradition alive, hoping our kids, their kids (and so on) will see what we did and follow the same. We included the following Filipino and Hebrew traditions:
Veil Ceremony:  Symbol of being clothed as one in unity. Cord Ceremony: Symbol of the lifelong bond between the couple. Presentation of Coins: Symbol of the couple’s commitment to mutually contribute to their relationship, children, and their community. Signing of the Ketubah: (Marriage Covenant) and Marriage Certificate
Who officiated your ceremony? How did you choose him/her? Pastor Carroll R. Myers. We had such great conversations with him. He is just a really genuine and caring person. Also, we were able to playfully banter back and forth with him a little, which was great since Cameron and I enjoy that kind of good humor!
What were your ceremony readings? 1 Corinthians 13:1-3.
What were your vows like? We went for the traditional vows. We feel these vows encompass all the things one should say when committing themselves to one another. Also, for us, nothing is more meaningful than reciting the same words that have been used by our parents and even other couples from history’s past to bond their marriage for years and years.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding ceremony? From the processional to the recessional, literally every piece of our wedding ceremony held meaning for us. So seeing it all come together in the moment was our favorite. We were just both overwhelmed with emotion. The love, encouragement, and joy that we felt from everybody there was something that we will never forget.
The Reception
Why did you choose this location for your reception? We chose this spot overall because of the tall trees, greenery and landscape. It was just all breathtaking. We also wanted to give our guests who have not been to the Pacific Northwest a chance to enjoy what we love so much, however this time, in black tie style, of course!
How would you describe your reception? Emotionally rewarding, Elegant but relaxed and I gotta say… the food and drinks were unbelievable!
Did you have a signature cocktail? We had four! Blueberry Slims (a pun-ny inspired take on where we first met at Automatic Slims): Portland Potato Vodka, St. Germain, lemons, limes, fresh blueberries, mint and sparkling water // Yokohamade (a pun-ny inspired take on where we had our first date at Yokohama Sushi Restaurant): Portland Potato Vodka, rosemary simple, fresh lemon juice, sparkling water, and fresh rosemary // Groom’s Recommendation, Stubborn Mule: Below Deck Spiced Rum, Cock N’ Bull ginger beer, fresh lime/ / Bride’s Recommendation, Tequila Shot: Olmeca Altos Plata tequila or Olmeca Altos Reposado tequila with salt and lime.
What advice do you have for other couples in the midst of planning a wedding? Everything will turn out amazingly regardless of any imperfections that may happen that only you would be able to see. But really… you won’t notice it on the actual day. Also, think of a rain plan from the start for outdoor weddings (including the ceremony portion!) Your plan B should be just as aesthetically pleasing to you as your original plan. It will help prevent from feeling you had to settle on something you didn’t absolutely love just because of the rain.
What was your wedding menu? It was love at first taste with White Pepper, our caterers. Cameron and I love food, so this was top priority for us. We really wanted to step out of the box from the typical banquet wedding food. We went with their in-season Oregon-style menu that included local ingredients. We chose a family style dinner, as wanted to sustain that intimate feel that we had started with the ceremony. Like having dinner at someone’s backyard with all our closest friends and family.
Passed hors d’oeuvres: Belgian Endive, Sun Gold Tomato Salsa Fresca, Preserved Lemon / Grand Central Brioche Toast, Manchego Cheese, Tart Rhubarb, Compressed Oregon Strawberries / Mary’s Farm Chicken and Lacinato Kale Tartlet, Ricotta and Parmesan Cheese, Romesco / Brown Butter Strip Steak Canapé, Horseradish Cream, Arugula, Black Pepper Toast
Family-style meal: Cedar-Smoked Pacific Chinook Salmon, Parsley Pesto, Lemon, Shallots, Roasted Garlic & Caper Aioli / Grilled Bavette Steak, Padron Peppers, Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, Romesco, Serrano Pepper and Cilantro Chimichurri / Crisp Watermelon, Grilled Corn Off The Cob, Feta, English Cucumbers, Tarragon Vinaigrette / Orzo Pasta Salad, Sugar Snap Peas, Cora’s Crop Duke Blueberries, Arugula, Lemon Vinaigrette / Thyme-Scented New Potatoes, Jacobsen Flake Salt / Grand Central Table Bread, Sweet Cream Butter
Do you have any budget tips for other brides? Definitely have a budget plan laid out, no matter how big or small your budget is…and try your hardest to stick to it. No matter how many pretty things you encounter and decide you want!
What was your favorite moment or part of the reception?  The speeches. They were so heartwarming and very special to us. You’ll never get these speeches again. They were made especially for that moment. So we really appreciated each and every one.
What was your first dance song? Father/daughter or mother/son dance? First Dance: Aretha Franklin’s You’re All I Need to Get By (sung by my sister, Emily) Father/Daughter Dance: Frank Sinatra’s My Way and New York, New York Mother/Son Dance: Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World
If you had it to do over again, is there anything you would do differently? Don’t stress over things you can’t control. Thoroughly enjoy the couple of days leading up to the wedding with family and friends. Especially the ones you don’t see often!
What type of cake or dessert did you serve? We had four mini round cakes served per table. Each side of the long tables had two cakes. One was lemon lavender with blueberry compote and one was spiced cake with an apple compote. Guests were free to cut it up and serve themselves as they please.
What was the best advice you received as a bride? Make sure to take time to soak it all in because the day goes by FAST!
Is there anything else that helps tell the story of your wedding? It truly was a magical day that we want to relive at least a few more times! (Thank goodness for our amazing photographer and videography team; because of them, we will be able to!)
