The fucking pirate AU still manages to rattle my brain because what the fuck is this???? (Also where the fuck is Mammon's pirate card on nightmare??? It's been over one year pls solmare bring it back i'm SO close to getting all the pieces)
Okay so canonically;
• They're all humans in the fantasy pirate AU
• Satan's an adult but is also searching for his dad
• This means that Lucifer is probably significantly older than the rest - or at least old enough to have an adult son
• Mammon & MC are established partners (in the "scheming against the others' " sense, the "romantic sense" is optional) and as seen in this post this adds to their dynamic but most importantly Mammon jumps to follow MC's easily & quickly
• I can't remember if Mammon is canonically Lucifer's first mate or if that's just a given considering Mammon's usual role as Lucifer's right-hand-man-when-shit-hits-the-fan in the main story canon
• Lucifer's pirate UR & chat both touch on how MC is newer to the whole pirate thing but also how Lucifer's training them (yeah I have a whole fic with unnecessarily detailed worldbuilding about this AU that has lived in my head for over a year now, that touches on how Mammon&MC are a partnership that acts like they've been working together for ages despite MC still being relatively new)
• Lucifer's training MC to be better than him and says he'll look forward to that day, but what kind of pirate captain would look forward to a day when a crew member can surpass him...?
And that makes me think.....
What if he wants MC to take over as captain? Not now, obviously, they're still new and learning but eventually one day in the future when he's too old for it? (and being a fantasy pirate AU we can imagine all pirates have long careers until they can happily retire) when they can stand their own against him and win? The others already like them and listen to them, and they've already got a first mate who they work incredibly well with so...? Because I can't think of any other reason within this AU for Lucifer to be encouraging them to best him
tldr: Lucifer's old and tired and he dreams of giving the ship to the idiot least likely to burn it down within 24Hrs, and going off to get a spa treatment in Diavolo's village

I am sorry to disturb you but sometimes I stay up at night, lying awake in my bed at 3am, staring up at the ceiling as I think about how they did ladynoir dirty and I wanted to talk to someone who understands 😭😭😭
Like let adriennette happen. Let it happen. BUT AT LEAST LET THE GHOST OF LADYNOIR HAUNT THEM. Let it be a question mark. A brushed away thought. An untapped yearning. Don’t give us one tsukuyomi episode and then act as if that wiped the slate of four seasons of a situationship cleannnn 😭😭😭😭
I just feel so cheated. That season 4 finale. THE SEASON 5 POSTER. We were so sure and then we we were left with our hands empty empty empty
HI OMG!!! first of all PLEASE do not apologize because i seriously love love LOVE getting asks and i LOVE talking about ladynoir
secondly yes most of my free time is spent working on my ladynoir fic and when im on tiktok i see ladynoir edits and i am simultaneously so sad and so happy all the time. ALSO YEAH. like um i guess i get why they can't lean too heavy into ladynoir bc they are SO chemistry and we can't make them look like they're cheating on themselves but i MISS THEM and i want to see them so bad all the time. stanning ladynoir in s5 is like being obsessed w that one random side character and screaming crying throwing up when u see them show up on screen like YASSSS GO BABY GIRLS!
anyway i have decided to cope by being extremely delusional and overreading into every little thing ladynoir related on the show. and also overattributing value to every tiny interaction they have
i think ultimately no matter what we have to remember that ladynoir STILL has a romantic history and chat noir and ladybug did not fall in love with each other for no reason!! think of them rn as two people who almost dated and are now trying to be really chill and cool about the fact that they VERY RECENTLY got very uber sad and pissed about getting tricked into thinking they got married and had a family together AND now um boom suddenly they're both dating other people and its totally awesome and fun and they're not in a strange ambiguous situation anymore and now they have to NOT accidentally brush hands when theyre on patrol and this is a normal thing to think about
re the whole ladynoir arc and how things will play out I GENUINELY THINK adrienette will break up at some point bc this show IS like the drama show and it has a minimum of 3 more seasons left AND the love square is never be stable for long and ifl that will always be the message pre-reveal. like if u have 2 identities each that all constantly interact (ladynoir and adrienette) u will always eventually feel conflicted between both identities bc that's how perfect u r for each other! the whole point is that a reveal would eventually solve everything and thats why pre-reveal love square is always doomed. i love suffering btw. ANYWAY adrienette rn is interesting bc they're getting closer but also facing problems at the same time and i think their time as a couple will make them so very interesting like. as exes. SORRY im not preying on their downfall I HAVE ADRIENETTE VISIONS TOO and i think exes adrienette who r more comfortable w each other should have a fight someday where its v obvious they still want each other but idk theres like problems abound and shit. WOULDN'T THAT BE FUN <- crazy person
tldr i think the ghost of ladynoir will haunt them soon!! hopefully!! in the meantime lets be unnecessarily delusional!!!!!!!!! also lets talk about ladynoir all the time i always understand bro

okie so ur guy finally got around to watching Bare : The Musical (mouse!! why?? because!! I love comparisons <3) and anyway. thought I’d document my thoughts
tldr; I think I would like Bare: The Musical as a standalone story, but as a Bare: A Pop Opera adaptation/re-interpretation I think it falls short in a lot of ways.
it gets a bit long so under the cut, if you wanna skip the dot points i summarise/reiterate down the bottom of the post
okay no but the photographic memory detail is kinda interesting. kinda sad in a lot of ways too if you think about it
the audio quality is Not It so forgive me if I don’t pass judgement on any of the songs
“Jason you act every day.” “I didn’t fool you <3” they’re cuties // they are SUCH goofballs here! they’re so dumb! teenageboycore if there ever was! I love them <3
it’s so WEIRD to hear a lot of these lines out of order / in a different context
ALSO the lack of singing during auditions is throwing me off
“Do you think your sister’s bi?” “…” “Bipolar?” I laughed—
Matty Patty babey boy!!! he’s so… he’s so something. idk if I like it yet. im very used to introvertedly anxious Matt but this Matt is such a lil cutie
WHOAH OK Portrait Of A Girl is way early
but I think I like a lot of the lyrics - “You don’t have a clue / what she is doing with you / what she is doing to you.”
actually no this is a crazy interesting take on Matt & Ivy and I’m OBSESSED with the way we get to see Ivy’s actual introspection on it in this context
ohhh okay. so it’s That kind of basketball team situation for Jason (+ Peter !! goddamn they really hate that kid)
the art class is a fun character device ! (also I’m screaming over the Math Book exchange)
i am intrigued by the Romeo & Juliet casting in this version ngl
I knew that they merged the Nadia & Lucas characters (lowkey I hate it! I think it does a huge disservice to Nadia + inevitably the McConnell dynamic) but it’s still weird to see it . That said “Out Of Your Mind” [as best as I can approximate what the song’s called??] is kind of a vibe
he was named after Peter Pan r u kidding ?? i am so so intrigued to meet Claire Simmonds in this version now
ohhh nooo I am having FEELINGS over Best Kept Secret (as I always do) but DAMN
“If the word were different and if wishing made it so […] I’m trying just as hard as you!” jason mcconnell you will be the death of me
im SICK why is everyone so MEAN in this version
EMO PUPPY DOG MATTHEW LLOYD I LOVE YOU
^ also goddamn that whole scene was An Exchange. interesting take
“You Don’t Know” is beautiful tho*
“I hear ya.” “Do you?” any glimpse of snarky/sarcastic Peter is a relief (not sure that I’m quite here for this Peter characterisation) . Also the Peter-Diane friendship is somewhat iconic
JASON is the birthday bitch!! that’s. something.
oh okay! this Portrait Of A Girl/Boy reprise is so intriguing to me. this version of Ivy in general is so intriguing to me
snarky Peter Simmonds you are everything to me <3
i miss ‘Are You There?’ hopefully it comes back to me later, I am desperate to see this Peter & Matt have a meaningful conversation
i could honestly not discern most of those lyrics but whatever they replaced 911! Emergency! with seems unnecessarily extravagant? for very little payoff
“Peter did you learn the entire script?” “Maybe.” no I love that for him though. i’m struggling because I like a lot of this Peter’s little character MOMENTS, but OVERALL I don’t like him
again the lack of singing is throwing me off
“I’m NOT your boyfriend!” OWCH
“Your world might not stop!” ohhhh okayyy i am. going a bit insane. over this mcsimmonds.
EVER AFTER !!! EVER FUCKING AFTER !!! (or whatever this version is officially titled)
what is the general consensus on Jason having Role Of A Lifetime?? bc aside from the title not making thematic sense for his character... idk it could just be the delivery but i don’t hate it
i am Not Here for the Nadia-likes-Matt subplot, tbh. i think it’s silly.
there is something so so desperate & violently destructive about this Jason - and it isn’t even like. hidden behind this facade of effortlessness that Pop Opera Jason puts up, if that makes sense?? (yes I am upset that he kissed Ivy first even if it makes sense for this version of Jason)
what an act 1, ngl. I am so anxious for act 2.
oh ok that’s a bit cute
“What if I told the world your story? / What if I told them what you’ve done? / What if I went and shared your secret? / What if I let them know I’m someone?” OH OKAY!!! this Peter is A Character!! and he’s fascinating!!
“I am gonna win… yep, I promise.” oh ow okay that hurts
“What If I Told?” [again guessing at song titles] is doing irreparable damage to my psyche /pos and I can feel it happening in real time
oh shit! i forget that they’re not even roommates in this version!
i feel like this version of the story (or at the very least ‘Touch My Soul’ or whatever it’s called here) is really capitalising on the Ivy-Peter similarities in the way the characters are being played
ARE YOU THERE? <33 WHY ARE YOU SO LATE IN THE STORY???
“Are you there? What did I do wrong? / Tell me and I’ll fix it, get us back where we belong.” screaming crying throwing up what the FUCK
disappointed in the lack of patt meter tho ://
NO BC THIS CONTEXT!!! of Sister Joan putting Peter in!!! i actually quite like it!! i kind of hate the stagings where they have Peter like. butt in, for lack of a better phrase to use. bc that’s so uncharacteristic for him, I always read that scene as he’s stage whispering the lines/doing the motions for Diane to follow along with and he just sort of ends up in the Actual Scene accidentally
ough. the mcconnell siblingsism… it’s missing and it makes me sad
“I don’t wanna be here anymore.” OH NO OH NO I DON’T NEED TO BE THINKING ABOUT THE TRAGEDY OF PETER’S SUICIDALITY NEXT TO JASON’S SELF-DESTRUCTIVE TENDENCIES AND THE WAY THIS STORY PLAYS OUT !!! IM GONNA BE SICK !!
“God Don’t Make No Trash” isn’t my favourite song in the show or anything but I do miss it a bit, even if the replacement song works for Sister Joan + this Peter
ok no now I’m upset do we just not get to know anything about Peter’s mother at all in this version?? look with this version of Peter I don’t feel like she’s a necessary piece of his character/story but still. would’ve been nice
“I have plans, I’m not that girl.” // “If I can’t, then why should he?” Ivy !! i am back and forth on this Ivy! i like a lot of it but I also don’t like a lot of it, those lines tho are so everything to me
“So talk to him.” “We don’t. Talk.” rip to the mcconnell siblingism. like I suppose it makes sense? given the vague family dynamic this musical gives us, but still. I miss them <\3
there is something so physically painful to me to watch Jason have such obvious emotional stress fractures
the lack!! of singing!! is so wild!!
oohhh this Matt is so fucking vindictive - “Is this just another thing you’ll try for the day?” SCREAMING
OH FUCK OKAY
oh I’m gonna be sick watching this meltdown
again!! the absolute sick dog violent desperation radiates off Jason generally but FUCK ME it’s so bad here - like I really truly believe that in that second right after Cross that this Jason made the decision to kill himself**
love the R&J costumes in this version tho ngl, they’re a bit cute
oh shit he’s really just. Dead. like obviously he’s dead in the Pop Opera as well but without Queen Mab it really does just feel like. you blink and he’s gone without any sort of buildup/unravelling
i feel like they definitely tried to recycle a bit of the early versions of the Father Flynn storylines for Father Mike here - like they don’t explicitly go for the queer angle but it feels a little bit alluded to, imo
the fucking bookending!!! i’m such a sucker for that shit
oh. okay. it was certainly A Watch - definitely interesting! full of odd character choices I didn’t love, most notably the basketball team and the way that side plot played out, also the merging of Nadia & Lucas’ characters. I think it does a huge disservice to Nadia’s character, the McConnell twins relationship, Nadia & Peter’s relationship, & I like Lucas as a character (& a plot device) so it really feels like a lose-lose situation. And I would’ve liked to have Peter’s mother at least alluded to, especially given how much more Sister Joan seems to fill a motherly role (and it would’ve made sense thematically! Given his hypothetical conversion with Jason’s mother in You & I, coupled with Diane’s whole spiel about her mom being her best friend - it’s a missed opportunity imo) (even tho as established for this characterisation of Peter it’s not quite so necessary)
that said! credit where credit is due - I am supremely intrigued by the characterisation of… okay most of the cast now I’m thinking about it. Would definitely like to do a comparative character breakdown (let me know if anyone else would care for that at all).
Emo puppy dog Matt Lloyd you are so special (it’s such a silly way to play him!! the show all but eliminates the academic part of his and Jason’s rivalry and THAT makes me sad bc I think it would be so so interesting to play into the rivalry more with this Matt and this Jason - but the way Matt & Ivy’s relationship exists in this version of the show, the absolute lack of any academic focus At All [which?? like they are At School, that SHOULD count for something] and even the play part feels somewhat lacklustre in so regards to the Matt vs Jason element, which again I think is a mark against B;TM)
as I said above - I think I would like Bare: The Musical as a standalone story, but as a Pop Opera adaptation/re-interpretation I think it falls short in a lot of ways. Which is another point - it’s so so crazy to me that The Musical is the adaptation of the Pop Opera, not the other way around. Which kind of sucks! because I think making it into a book musical, not a sung-through show, does give a little more breathing room for character & relationship work and development, but it just seems ill utilised, to the point where it doesn’t even seem to match the Pop Opera, let alone improve/expand on it. Because all the extra dialogue time had to be spent on reordering the story beats so we ended up losing time with the characters in a way.
or at least that’s how it read to me - obviously I am not a professional reviewer/critic so don’t take my word for it, I just wanted to talk it out. or shout it out into the void, as my tumblr may be. if you read this whole thing?? shoutout to you, I love you <3

OC asks: 5, 9, and 18 for Mura please!
heheh thank you!!! for this tag game
5. How far is your OC willing to go to get what they want?
its her character defining trait and the answer is wayy further than is sane. literally any distance. only caveat is if it will hurt her she will be wary, but normally it just means she gets other people hurt instead of herself. not sure what to say for this other than that!
luckily for most people her goals are do interesting things and gain power, not world domination [yet]
but if it serves either her long term goal of strength and power, or her shorter term goals that will lead to strength and power then it will be done, unless it hinders the goals to. [e.g. killing the leaders of the crusades and taking control she she can rule her own city state would get her power and strength but also a long line of people trying to kill her]
her goals are long term stable strength and power, not short lived & unstable, shes got a long lifetime, and if making nice or even just civil and making a few sacrifices gets her respect and power then thats fine for her.
tldr: she will do anything to get what she wants, but given what she wants is so vague/distant she does'nt always seem it as shes willing to compromise on short term wants that are normally just curiosity to benefit her long term wants.
9. Do you have a specific lyric or quote which you associate with your OC?
ohh this is hard to pin down.
for the quotes: theres one spesific screenshot that floats around tumblr about how people misunderstand ruthlessness and it describes the goal oriented nature of it and its so her<3 i cannot find it rn and thats a tragedy
for song lyrics: my playlist is here so ill just do my fav:
"He'll wrap you in his arms, tell you that you've been a good boy/He'll rekindle all the dreams/it took you a lifetime to destroy [...] but there won't be a single thing that you can do" from red right hand. it fits her so well but the last bit where it shows that you have no choice in whatever is happening to you<3 its her perfectly
the thing is shes so complex that its hard to think of something that so her that isnt very long, and her type of quote isnt the kind ive collected
18. Is your OC more cold and detached or up close and personal?
ohhh this is making me think.... mura makes these questions so unnecessarily complicated...
the thing is im leaning cold and detached because i can see her inner thoughts, where she is cold and detached most of the time, but externally, she is often detached, but cold not so much: and not very detached either, shes an observer when shes not the center of attention, and uses small gestures to mold someones view of her more than big gestures.
ok so actually answering: on her own, or in a situation where peoples long term opinion on her will never matter: cold and detached all the way. however, that rarely happens, and with the crusade, its happening even less, so she is outwardly personal but still a bit detached

Only thing I agree with everyone else criticizing the game is that yes, the dictionary is dumb and yes, it’s a little buggy at times.Welcome to Kizi! We've got you thousands upon thousands of amazing free online games to play now, from Stickman games to word games. I agree the ending could’ve been a little better considering the amount of work that was put into the storyline but the pictures were cute. The levels are all super entertaining and I love the graphics, characters, and music. Level 7-7 is hard but it’s not impossible lol. It doesn’t take as long to grind for coins in s.s gear and to be honest I liked that part because I couldn’t just beat the game in a couple days. Yeah it’s frustrating at times but that’s what makes it good, you can’t expect to play a game with so many levels and have them all be easy. Looking through all the bad reviews just has me convinced y’all are bad at the game. I was so happy that I was ready to beat the game in one day…until I found out I needed Brutus, which requires another 4000 coin item. Update:I finally got the dictionary item. P.S to new players, ever wonder why it’s 9+ and the first game is not? I won’t spoil too much, but someone does die in the game…kinda sad, even if it’s just a pixelated kitty cat… The only thing I’d say is not very well-made is the whole coin-grinding when you reach the final chapter, but there are many coin-grinders out there, so…nothing to worry about! I personally think this game deserves every penny it gets. Because these controls are simply purr-fect! And what’s all this talk about scams? This game has its flaws, yes, but it’s not THAT bad. This game, as you probably know, has great graphics, soundtracks, even the characters are paw-some! They even gave every character a personality! Also, to all of those people saying the controls are broken, either you haven’t played very many mobile games or you don’t have enough storage space. So, you all probably love this game, but not as much as me. Be prepared for fun, rage, tears, and lots of death. TLDR: It’s not all sunshine and rainbows in this cute kitty cat game. You don’t get punished in early stages but once you get to world 7. If you want to beat the game, you gotta work on your platforming during this game. Platforming in the later stages becomes unnecessarily difficult. You’d either have to be patient or play better, you’re stilling going to die a bunch though.ģ. Some deaths are permanent, some are due to monkeys, and some are due to impatience. Not going to lie, this game is going to be frustrating because sheer amount of death you’ll experience. YOU ARE GOING DIE over and over and over again. Personally I think this creator is worth the $10 but if you can’t pay then prepare for repeating 2-4.Ģ. You’d have to repeatedly replay a specific level more than 50 times to grind for coins to proceed in the game. Unless you're willing to spend $10, collecting the right amount of coins is going to feel like a chore. Though this game does have some caveats for any non gamers looking for a game similar to Mario or Kirby.ġ. The story actually has some dept for a side scrolling mobile game. A lot of love went into this game and you can tell.

Dumb Brain Child: Episode 6th
So recently, I was looking for something to post as one does, and then a particular old friend came across my dashboard. There before my eyes was a fresh soul explaining the corruption theory in regard to the Dark Sides and redemption. So, just for the heck of it here's my hot take on the corruption theory in an unnecessarily long post, you're welcome :)
To those of you few fresh faces in the fandom who have yet to have your eyes tainted or those who just don't pay mind to theorists, I'm going to briefly explain the theory. Skip this paragraph if you already know. So, the theory began around the time of AA Part the Second, mostly due to specific wording from Virgil. "These guys have all been in this corner of your mind for too long. It's corrupting them." [Accepting Anxiety, 7:52-7:56]. That wording, to many, suggested that a side can become corrupted and go against its original purpose. For example, Virgil was calm until being corrupted by that part of Thomas' mind and became anxious. Sort of an Icarus tale, if you will. This theory only grew with the introduction of Janus and later Remus. Those who support this theory claim they were as well corrupted by the dark side of Thomas' mind into an abstraction of their original roles.
Got it? Good. Now for my purely subjective opinion on that matter. I think it makes a good au plot but holds no water to the canon. Yes, I understand that realistically any theories regarding the mindscape in the past very quickly devolve into pure speculation, psychological research, and over-analysis. That doesn't mean we can't rule things out or point out implausibilities and inconsistencies.
For example, this was an older video where the entire lore and universe weren't actually complete. It was more like SparkNotes to a larger work and the team has reflected this. As well, for this theory to be true by now at the least we would've seen some hint of uncorrupted sides. Perhaps an end card, a seemingly unused article of clothing, a drawing, a photo, or literally any sign at all that at one point they were different sides. There are quotes that certainly could be pointed to but nothing clear or concrete. Patton is extremely sentimental and clings to the past, why did he never bring up who the others used to be? Or why did Logan never say something to one of them about how they've become so illogical with their change? Roman could've easily mentioned how his brother used to be someone he liked or respected but changed. We've never seen anything close to these interactions because (at least I think) it didn't happen.
I've been relatively vocal about my beliefs as far as the timeline and its events. I just don't think that a side would be cast out to the darkness of c!Thomas' mind and be corrupted largely against their will. Maybe a side could change form with c!Thomas' perception of that asset, but not corrupted by any means just changed. For example, I highly doubt Virgil always looked like an angsty teen. Maybe he started out different looking and more unknown but over time and especially in c!Thomas' teens developed into this look as c!Thomas changed how he viewed anxiety with age.
TLDR: Corruption theory is a decent au, but only an au.

i just finished serpent and dove and it was .... nice
tldr; i enjoyed the love between lou and reid soooo muchh! its very much nina x matthias vibes and it’s great to have a story with a similar dynamic! i love how feral lou is and reid is the epitome of a disciplined soldier who loosens up! even just changing their core beliefs was fun ride and i enjoyed it a lot. its still a 3.5/5 for me though because there was a lot of things that didn’t make sense or drawn out unnecessarily.
lou is such a fun protagonist! i love that she has so much personality and that goofiness that was so fun to read! reid is adorable! and i especially liked that he was a consistent character! i actually even like that he wasn’t like a sex-god that a lot of YA/NA books tend to write. i think its so endearing that he waited and shows that he truly is a proper corporal man lol. i love the banter, i love the way lou makes him fluster and i HOPE HOPE HOPE they keep doing that. i love when reid gets flustered! the supporting cast is fun especially ansel! he is such a baby!
the magic in this is interesting take and i want to read more about it. its like some of the witches are allowed to use magic but it requires a give and take type thing. i can’t fully conceptualize that and i’m wondering how the rules of this story is written. i’ve never read a witch story like this so i give this +10 points for creativity. but this concept of balance/give-take relationship with nature makes sense! witches are intune with the natural world and it would make sense to give something back as they utilize it.
overall i am pleased and i would love to explore this world more! i dont LOVE this book because i felt like it was unnecessarily drawn out (i dont think almost 500 pages needed to exist to tell this story) and i had to suspend a lot of beliefs to buy into this world (lou is constantly getting beaten up, magic is strange, pacing, situations that felt like it could be handled differently, etc). there was a lot to love but there was something meh about it. there were many times where i got confused about who was talking and there were a lot of cryptic shit here and there that was suppose to build drama but felt like it was unnecessary. i was initially reluctant to pick it up because of the religiousness of it all and there was quite a bit of it mixed into it but as long as it made the story make sense it was mostly fine.
i will say the fanart is what made me want to read this book. i love the illumicrate bookmark with lou and reid on it and it was adorable. i am such a sucker for height difference couplings!
*some musings about this story*
something that i’m kind of cautiously worried about is framing the witches as these radical extremists while sympathizing with the chasseurs/royals/church where this story ends with peace between moderate witches and toned down royals/church. the witches hate that the royals and church because they took their lands and are fighting to get it back and honestly that such a powerful endeavor and i understand the anger (similar to indigenous folks who lose their land and their livelihood is tied to nature). the royals and church seems to be the biggest oppressors despite the witches performing indecent deeds on humans and indocterinating groups of men to absolutely hate and brutalize these groups of people without a second thought is scary and then having lou and coco becoming this rebellious thieves is...interesting.
Tumblr media
saving their land sounds like a worthy cause but lou doesn’t want to do it because a) she doesn’t want to die b) it meant killing the king and his linage (who are innocent but this doesn’t include reid yet) and c) she wants to be free to live her life d) doesn’t want to hurt innocent people. i’m not saying her choices are wrong and she did say she was “selfish” but why weren’t her goals to figure out another solution?? taking one’s lands back is such a powerful thing for these witches especially if their very power is tied to it? and she sees her sisters get burned at the stake and tortured and dehumanized by the chasseurs so why wouldn’t she fight??? but i guess i’ll cut her some slack because she’s running from her mom and her perceived responsibility and guilt of not dying to save her sisters. i do love the stakes in this story and paves way for a more interesting directions and i hope that lou finds power in herself and maybe even be a real leader.
theres still 2 more books to go so I won’t say anything about that but I am hoping it doesn’t end the typical way YA Fantasy lit ends. i want the witches to win more than i sympathize w the royals + church.
*edit* this meme encompasses my fears really really well!!!

okay, so. incoming observations about the inaccessibility of healthcare, how it affects providers, and how it affects clients.
i'll put the rest below the cut because it got long. please keep in mind there are warnings for brief discussion of patient neglect.
this is not meant to be much more than a series of observations. this was spurred by a comment i read from twitter abt the inaccessibility of the healthcare field from the provider side encouraging rampant ableism; which i vehemently agree with.
so basically: healthcare? nightmare field to be involved with. the programs themselves are incredibly grueling, and even programs with good graduation rates see incredibly low rates; for a personal example, i knew a class that had started out with ~40 people. about five people graduated. now granted: this was an accelerated, two-year nursing program, and this does not consider people who wound up simply graduating a semester or two later. but: 5/40 people made it to the two year mark and graduated.
and like. this speaks to how fucking breakneck the speed is. all-nighters are common; even bragged about. college students with part time jobs are barely hanging on; if you've got a family? nd? disabled? working full-time with other concerns? you are Fucked, plainly speaking. so already you've got a disadvantage at who has the time and resources to even compete in these incredibly ruthless fields.
you're cutting down on the potential pool of candidates and nursing + the medical industry is already a field that Needs to hire more. and like: if you argue with me that "oh it's to weed out those not fit for the field" i will get to that issue. i will get to it. because holy god no i swear to god you can be competent it's just we have very unhealthy standards and the work environment is unnecessarily hostile which actually makes it WORSE for the patients
because the patients. dear gods the patients. holy god do they get the short end of the stick.
they face bias from their providers on every front: both the providers being hella overworked and the providers still lacking sensitivity to identify cultural like. differences. (yes, most nursing colleges probably have diversity training. there's something to be said about the rn makeup being so uniform that the training still doesn't catch the nuances. if you are white, oftentimes middleclass- which 80% of the nursing base is- you will still miss the more nuanced results of cultural upbringing. eg. pain tolerance, patient to provider communication, etc)
and even without the bias of being mostly treated by able-bodied, nt white ppl; the nurses are ridiculously overworked. 14 hour shifts, i've seen more happen. very high patient to provider load. i have seen patients that go without being bathed or cared for for days. i have seen (and heard of) overworked nurses attempting to help fill the roles of their peers, at the cost of the safety of their patients, or mismanaging medication completely on accident. i have seen patients miss meals because their presiding nurse or cna has been helping elsewhere.
this isn't to roast them for that, although i do recognize their culpability here and that nothing excuses patient neglect. this is to point out that the unnecessary "hustle culture" weeds out people who would've been a wonderful, wonderful asset to the field and damages not just the nurses but the patients!! because now there are less nurses to provide their input and assistance to the field, there are more patients, and everybody suffers in the end; especially the patients whom this entire healthcare model should be based around in the first place.
it's so weird. this healthcare model should be based around ensuring that patients get the best, individualized healthcare and yet they suffer the most because of this.
tldr the medical field is wholly inaccessible except to a very specific subsection and altho it's slowly slowly getting better it's not getting better quick enough and both providers and patients but especially patients suffer for it due to RAMPANT understaffing as a result of this
(yes, i know that it's so much more complicated than "hustle culture" but i was speaking towards a specific aspect that worsened patient care)

Author Spotlight: Kuhlaine Day 3
Tumblr media
Author: @kuhlaine
How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?
It depends! My first draft is always just a rough 'get the words on the page' type of draft. If it's un-beta'd, I'll transfer the rough draft to a new document and do a fresh pass through the following day to fine tune, then work on formatting and do one last pass through for spelling errors after giving myself a break from looking at the material. If it's a beta'd project, I'll go through and start adding my comments/concerns and shoot them off to my beta. Once we've worked through all of theirs and my comments I do one last pass through for any last minute changes and I'm good to post!
tldr: two and a half-ish drafts for un-beta'd works, closer to four drafts for beta'd projects!
If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?
I'd revise Cross the Line, which was the first fic I ever posted! I took a 9 month hiatus before posting the last chapter (which I'm so, SO sorry about, I promise I won't do it again), and I always worried that it felt like there was a distinct shift in the tone of the story once I posted that final chapter months later. I'd want to do a proper outline for that fic and draw out the last few chapters a little more. I had originally wanted things to go down slightly differently, but I felt like it was too late to scrap that draft when I was already months behind posting my latest chapter.
What do you look for in a beta?
I've been working with my beta, Adri, for my past two multi-chapter fics and my next WIP, and honestly I'd say I'd look for someone like her, as shameless as that is to say! She's amazing - none of my work would be what it is without her guidance and influence on the writing process.
Usually, my greatest concern with my work is that the logic is always sound. Sometimes things that make sense to me don't make sense to someone else - likewise, I created these characters, and I control their thoughts and actions. Sometimes I may know why they chose to act a certain way, but the reader might not - so having someone who's able to call things like that out, for clarity and context, is SUPER helpful! A great memory is also amazing because I have a bad habit of forgetting some of the more minute details in my fics (and also forgetting that Adam exists).
If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?
Oh gosh, that's so tough... I feel like most of my favorite fics end in really wonderfully fitting ways. I think it'd be fun to take a crack at a Little Numbers sequel - the fic is absolutely astounding on its own, so this would just be a shameless chance to get to try out writing in that very unique format.
Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?
I definitely take liberties! I like to weave in nods to canon throughout my fics just for fun, and because they make for intriguing plots when put into a new setting/context, but I'm really not one for canon compliance - since I'm not a huge fan of some of the details in canon.
Talk about a review that made your day.
Lots of reviews make my day! I'm very easy to please, honestly. If you say you like it, it makes my heart swell.
One review that particularly stuck with me was someone who said it had been years since they'd read a newer fic, and had taken a chance on one of my fics. When I first rejoined the fandom I was definitely hesitant to read newer works, and wanted to stick with the classic fics that I knew and loved at first - knowing that someone took a chance on me as an author who was very late, and very new, to the fandom really meant a lot to me!
Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?
Not really! This is a wonderfully supportive community and I've never gotten anything but kind and lovely comments.
I'd like to think that if I got a negative review I'd leave it be and forget about it - but realistically I'd probably obsess about it for a long time, forget about it for years, then it'll come back to me in the middle of the night years later.
As for critique/constructive feedback - I welcome it! My writing is critiqued/workshopped pretty much every day at work, so it's something I'm always very open and welcome to hearing!
What advice do you have for people just starting to write?
Don't be discouraged if the kudos/comments are slow to start! When I first started posting fic, it took me quite a bit to start getting kudos/comments, but I kept going because I had this thing I really wanted to write, and figured I might as well share it regardless of whether anyone was reading, because I knew I was going to write it either way. I posted (somewhat) consistently, and eventually readers started to come along!
And write what YOU want to write! Don't write something that you're not passionate/excited about or that you feel like you /have/ to write, it'll just make the writing process unnecessarily difficult for you.
Which fic do you most like to discuss with other people? Why?
I'll talk about The Sidhe to anyone who will listen - it's one of my favorite fics of all time.
As for my own fic, I don't talk about many of them very often to others! I'm generally very vague when talking about my non-work-related writing to my friends. Though, I'm adapting Even Then, Especially Now into an original work, so that's the only project I've talked about a little more explicitly with them.
What's one aspect of writing fic that gets you really excited?
Creating worlds! I don't write fantasy or sci-fi, but I think you still do a great deal of world building with any story - you're creating characters and friend groups and social constructs and settings. I love those first few chapters when you're really setting the scene, introducing your cast of characters and what their world is like and how they operate.
I also LOVE finally getting to the climatic point in a story and just writing my heart out! It's the moment I've been waiting for as a writer, and usually the moment the reader will have been waiting for, and it's so exciting to do all this building and just dive right in to this insane, emotional, rollercoaster of a moment.

Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline (Book Review)
Monday 30th November 2020 Book Review - Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline First time reading. Rating: ** So I finished Ready Player Two! I'm sad to say that it didn't live up to the expectations I had for it especially after I thoroughly enjoyed reading Armada earlier this year. I did see some negative comments about RP2 before I started reading it so I'm not sure if that just put me in a mindset of negativity or if I would have felt this way even if I hadn't seen negative comments. The first part of this review will be spoiler free and the later part will include spoilers but I'll include a warning where the spoilers start. I also know this is a long one so there's a tldr on the last page if you'd rather read it!
[Spoiler free section but contains spoilers for Ready Player One] Ready Player Two picks up where Ready Player One left off, Wade has won Hallidays contest and inherited the OASIS and the rest of Hallidays property. As part of his inheritance, Wade comes across new technology developed by Halliday but never released to the world that leads Wade and the rest of the High 5 on a new Easter Egg hunt with a brand new villain turning up to make things complicated. My biggest issues were in the first 100 pages with the writing, pacing and characters and then when the plot finally got going my issue was with the main villain and their treatment. I also just find it awkward reading Cline's attempts at women, POC and LGBT+ representation. While I do appreciate the effort and inclusion, it's not done very well and clearly Cline hasn't got the right people around him to point this out. As well as issues with his writing of these types of characters I also have issues with the content. Unnecessary sex references, repeating small points multiple times, over-complication of minor details, treating the reader like an idiot, and more effort put into the nostalgic references rather than progressing the plot. A lot of these also combine into the issues I had early in the book with the pacing, sometimes moments were being unnecessarily drawn out and other times there were moments which I wish had more attention given to them. As the book progressed I found this issue lessened as the plot moved forward but it's still something that was an issue for me again towards the end. Most of the characters I actually didn't have a huge issue with apart from some characters being more side-lined and not getting quite as much time as I would have liked but that would be a minor issue. My bigger issue, especially at the beginning of the book, was with Wade, our main character. He's obnoxious and brags about everything he now has. He has an anger issue which makes him even more unlikeable and he totally violates the privacy of people using the OASIS system! As the plot progresses and he has less opportunities to be like this I found I could tolerate him more but there were still lines that I found myself scoffing at throughout the book. I want to also talk about the villain and why I had issues there as well but because it would contain spoilers I'll talk about what I did like first of all, explain the reasons for my rating and then get into the spoilers. So! Although I've been pretty negative so far there was some parts I actually did like which stopped me from dnf-ing the book. Although RP2 has some pretty bad writing and pacing issues I did actually enjoy the plot. I thought when it eventually got going it was actually pretty fun and I enjoyed a lot of the references even though Cline does treat his readers a bit like we're idiots when he's explaining them. I also still love Samantha/Art3mis and a lot of the other characters in the book so that managed to keep me going. Samantha has always been the more level headed and responsible one but she's still utterly badass and I wouldn't mind her being a role model for young girls reading these books. I was sort of conflicted between 2 and 3 stars for my rating because while in the end I can say I reasonably enjoyed the book I also had so many issues and those first 100 pages really annoyed me. Ultimately I settled on 2 stars because I know that I'm never going to reread this book but I also didn't dislike it enough to only give it 1 star. Now I'm going to get into the spoiler section and talk about my main issues with the villain and some of the spoiler-ey stuff that I actually did like so this is your spoiler warning for this section! [SPOILERS for Ready Player Two] So the villain is Halliday. Not really, technically the villain is a corrupted copy of Halliday's memories housed inside his OASIS avatar Anorak. I think by making this distinction Cline was trying to show a difference between Halliday and Anorak and that they're two different "people" which possibly would have been fine if Cline hadn't also totally dragged on the "real" Halliday in the process. He goes to great lengths to let us know that the real Halliday actually wasn't a good guy at all and was actually a sociopath. I have a few issues with this. The first and more minor issue is that, from what I remember, Halliday is portrayed as a good guy in RP1 and somebody a lot of the characters, especially Wade, admire. I didn't reread or rewatch RP1 before reading RP2 (especially as the movie is so different) so maybe I'm misremembering but it just felt like such a shock. I am well aware that Halliday wasn't perfect, especially when it comes to Kira and Og but that doesn't mean he needs to be villainised! I think the first book/movie perfectly showed how flawed he was without making him a villain and it's just so upsetting to me that Cline went in this direction for RP2. I also have an issue with Halliday as the villain because I think it could be so damaging for people who looked at Halliday and saw this socially awkward introvert who is also a genius and were inspired by that or could see parts of themselves in Halliday's character but now they're being told that, actually, because he pined after his friend's wife he's a sociopath! I think it could be so damaging to people who looked up to him. As I said, Halliday in the first book is flawed but so is everybody and he could still have been a brilliant role model for kids if Cline hadn't taken RP2 in this direction. For my final complaint regarding Halliday I felt like his relationship with Og and Kira was ruined in this book. Yes, in the first book his relationship with them was strained but I feel like they still loved each other. Even though Og had nothing to do with the company anymore Halliday still included Og in his will. I think Og still had affection for him and I never felt like they were friends through any sense of duty from Og. But here that relationship was totally butchered and Halliday felt like somebody Og and Kira tolerated because they felt sorry for him. And look where it got them, he totally violated Kira's privacy multiple times! Because of course Halliday couldn't just harmlessly pine over her, he had to go and do something absolutely mental. It just feels so out of character because even though he's a bit socially awkward he's a really smart man and should know better than to do this! It also at times felt like Halliday was the butt of their jokes which is just horrible! And not at all how I remembered any of these characters. As I said, maybe I'm mis-remembering but even so it was still a cause of discomfort and greatly affected my enjoyment of the book. But that's not all folks! Anorak isn't the only villain! Sorento is back! I just don't like the character at all so instantly I was annoyed because I dislike him so much but then he really wasn't involved that much at all which makes me wonder why Cline even brought him back to begin with?! He had one moment towards the end where he played a role in the death of Og and the "battle"/"escape" (how ever you want to word it) that ensued but I feel like this could have been done in a different way without having to bring Sorento back just for this. For spoiler-ey stuff that I did like. I liked Kira being more of a central character and getting to find out more about her. I think she's a really cool character and it was nice to go on her adventure this time around. I liked all the quests for the shards, especially the John Hughes one as a big John Hughes fan myself! I also liked the final battle between Og and Anorak. It's something that I think Cline does really well and also showed that he can do big, epic endings without it having to be a big battle sequence with lots of characters. 1v1 worked just as well and was just as enjoyable to read if not even more so. And that's the end of the spoiler section! Here's the tldr because I know this has been a long one! TLDR (Spoiler free) I had a lot of issues with Ready Player Two, specifically with the writing, pacing and handling of some of the key characters. I gave it 2 stars because I already know I'm not going to reread it so I wouldn't give it a 3 but I didn't dislike it enough to give it a 1. There were some elements that I did enjoy that managed to keep me going. Thanks so much for reading! Let me know if you've read RP2 and your thoughts or if you're planning on reading it (if so I hope you enjoy it more than I did!) Rating: ** Blog | Twitter | Goodreads (Read it first on my blog.)

A LONGISH UPDATE
(there will be a tldr at the end if any of y’all wanna skip this unnecessarily long update!)
I’m not sure how to start this so I guess I’ll just go for it lol.
First off I’m sorry I said I’d finish the requests for you guys and then disappeared for a couple months. I really do feel bad about that and have genuinely missed interacting with all of you and writing all these fun and sometimes weird posts haha.
In the beginning of the year I transferred schools and as soon as classes started I got the flu :/ that took me a while to recover from while missing a few days of classes, but then I felt better and posted like 2 more times! Then I got sick again with a cold/strep throat and was out.
I guess I got into the habit of not writing for a while and it got harder to come back here. The longer I waited the more anxious I felt to log in again for absolutely no reason it seems like.
This past week I’ve been looking at my blog from my private one and was like “what on earth am I doing. The apocalypse is on its way and I’m sitting on my ass doing nothing instead of writing and talking to these crazy, fun, and super kind people.”
Maybe I’m being too emotional about this lol but y’all I promise to do my best and stick to this! Zeus knows we all need a distraction from what’s going on in the world and I would love to be part of a positive distraction from anything you guys are dealing with. As always, you can always send me a message or ask or anything about anything! I love talking to you guys and am down for whatever.
Because I’m going to start over again, I’ll be deleting almost everything in the inbox (this really breaks my heart bc you guys have such unique and funny ideas!). I have 3 requests that are staying because I started writing them before my impromptu hiatus thing and they are:
The creeps with a S/O who can sing
A mini fanfic involving the proxies and weighted blankets
Dark Link relationship HC
Until I get these three things out, requests and matchups will both be closed! I’m hoping the ones I’ll be working on will be up fairly quick since I started on them already but will definitely let you all know how it goes
TLDR: I got sick (twice!), lost motivation, am now back, and requests/matchups are closed for now
I’M SO EXCITED TO BE BACK Y’ALL EJFIOEWFIOFJJKAKLF

Oh Boy, We’re Back Already
Of course, after I finish my unnecessarily long post about why Really Bad Boy is a major bop, I’m back on my bullshit already. Well, the ReVe Festival Day 1 album has officially released and, as expected, it has some MAJOR bops. Sunny Side Up is a cool velvety yet high energy experience, Milkshake is a masterful piece with an insane breakdown and catchy chorus. The other songs on the album are also, as expected, phenomenal. LP is probably my favorite, although I’ve heard very little about it, it’s just so fun and light and unconventional I can’t stop listening to it, and Bing Bing and Parade are underrated jams. But, as seems to be a trend with Red Velvet, we have PLENTY of people complaining about the title track Zimzalabim. And once again, I am confused (but not really surprised). Personally, I am genuinely in love with Zimzalabim and, as a result, I will now spend the next hour or two of my life explaining why that is. Let’s go!
I made a post really similar to this one about RBB (https://reveluvlybabe.tumblr.com/post/185692436836/really-bad-boy-is-a-really-great-song)
and I'll be formatting this one really similarly. Anyways, Zimzalabim being amazing, let’s get into that.
1 - The Vocals: And I thought RBB really highlighted the members' abilities, I had no idea what was to come. Every single member SHINES vocally in this comeback. Wendy’s bridge notes are higher and more iconic than ever. Seulgi’s voice works so damn well with the sound for this song (come through with that belt) and Joy killed it with those bridge vocals. Irene’s rapping especially shone through here and Yeri sounds amazing in the verses, I wish she got more lines but I am living for her and Seulgi harmonizing, their voices blend so interestingly on the “higher” line, I’m deceased. And the group has never sounded stronger on the chorus, their blend here is so good and they have a tone together that we haven’t really heard from them before. And when they bump up the pitch of zimzalabim in the final chorus, WOW. The vocals really shine through in this song, and they do so in a really interesting way. Plus the harmonies and lower notes here are phenomenal and something I don’t think we get enough of from Red Velvet. Tldr, the vocals in this song are phenomenal and every single member shines vocally, I’m blown away
2 - The Outfits: Okay, I’m willing to concede that some of the outfit choices here are... questionable. Joy’s braids are definitely the worst offender, although Wendy’s fluffy green shirt is pretty horrible to look at as well. But here’s the thing, we were never meant to love all of the outfits here. Yes, they are painfully bright and weird and unusual, but that’s the point. Zimzalabim and the album as a whole have a concept based around carnivals and festivals, bright, crowded, obnoxious events that are fun and high energy all the same. And the outfits for this comeback are a great reflection of that, they aren’t meant for the red carpet. They’re weird and eccentric and that’s exactly what they are meant to be. The looks are perfect for the concept of this comeback.
3 - The Aesthetic: This aesthetic is definitely one of the weirdest ones Red Velvet has gone with so far, it’s up there with Rookie as far as abnormal and strange concepts go. But that’s part of what is so great about it. One thing we can count on with Red Velvet, they won’t do the same thing twice. Their comebacks are nothing if not unique and exciting, and that’s part of why reveluvs love RV so much. This album is the perfect reflection of that unpredictability, it’s way different than what I could’ve imagined and yet, at the same time, that’s exactly what I expected. If Red Velvet came at us with another Bad Boy, or another Russian Roulette or Peek-A-Boo, that wouldn’t be Red Velvet. That volatility is what we all signed up for when we got on the Red Velvet ride, and it’s part of what makes this group so amazing!
4 - The Sound: Last time I didn’t talk much about the sound of RBB, mainly because that wasn’t where most of the complaints were focusing. But that seems to be a qualm for a lot of people this time around, so I feel the need to address it besides my blatant lack of knowledge in music theory or production. What I CAN tell you, however, is that Zimzalabim sounds really damn cool. It has such a unique sound, with the bells(?) and the insane drum line, and the sort of electronic sound plus claps during the dance breaks, the almost dissonant harmonies, the constant building of energy throughout the song, it’s all really unconventional for a lot of recent K-Pop, especially girl groups, and is a really bold choice by SM. It definitely creates a feeling of instability while listening, you can never really be sure where the song is planning to go next and as soon as you adjust to one section you dive headfirst into the next one. But I honestly feel that the energy created by this song is so unique and chaotic and insanely cool, I doubt that I’ll ever get tired of this song. It, again, really sticks to the concept of this comeback. This song is a rollercoaster of sounds and emotions, a high energy experience with unexpected twists and turns that leaves you feeling a little ungrounded, but ready for a 2nd listen nonetheless.
All things being said, I really adore this comeback and its title track, and it’s painfully obvious how much time and thought went into every aspect of this album and its songs. Maybe you don’t really like Zimzalabim, and that’s okay! But there are plenty of us who do, and we have a lot of reasons for doing so. At the end of the day, I think we can all appreciate the time and effort that was put into this album and enjoy the success it is already bringing Red Velvet. It already hit number 1 on worldwide albums on iTunes, making Red Velvet the first K-pop girl group to accomplish that, and one of only a handful of other girl groups. If it is nothing else, this album is already revolutionary, and I can’t wait to continue to enjoy the songs until our next comeback arrives!

Jessica Jones season 3 review
Back when Jessica Jones started, more than three years ago, it was all I heard about on social media. It was up there in my top tv shows. There was something about it which set it far above other superhero content. We were not just presented with a big bad who was a crime lord but given what was a very real metaphor for the abuse faced by women. The show was an examination of rape culture and mental illness, all while keeping up the action typical of the genre, and kept me gripped from episode to episode. I watched at least one season of every other Marvel Netflix series and none of them quite compared. Though they could be enjoyable at times, their storylines were all over the place, they were too long so that you could easily zone out, and their villains felt laughable.
I really hated season 2 of Jessica Jones. I remember very little of it but the villain was introduced so late and the stakes did not feel high enough. So I had no idea what I should think of Jessica Jones season 3 and as a result, I kept my standards fairly low. Where did it lie in comparison to its predecessors? Somewhere between the two. On the level of most of the other series. Enjoyable enough but not something that you feel such a compulsion to continue watching. Something that you will have forgotten within a week of watching. However, I did have a lot of thoughts about it.
Firstly there is the feminist message of it. This came very naturally to the first season given the subject matter. The first season exposed something that was real for many women and that genuinely felt like a horror story. Trying to continue in the same vein was what really ruined the initial villain of this season for me. The bad guy, Sallinger, quickly became a straw misogynist, defending himself by ranting about how the only reason Jess was after him was because he was a white man and she’s must hate him. Sure, some men actually think like this but it took away much of his depth and felt like it was trying to bash in a feminist subtext that would have been there without him.
Now onto the conflict between Jess and Trish. I found Trish to actually be the most sympathetic character of the season which was ironic since I strongly disliked her last season. Meanwhile, I started to become irritated with Jess. She became patronizing and unnecessarily rude to everyone (her attitude towards her secretary was particularly mean) and it seemed like the writers were trying very hard to make her ‘’’edgy’’’. Jess clearly suffers from PTSD and is an alcoholic and I would have liked to see her receive help with this but it isn’t even suggested. This might have been a plotline in later seasons if it hadn’t been cancelled but I really wish it had been addressed more earlier on. Season 1 definitely focused on Jess’s mental health much more.
We saw the message that we have seen again and again in the superhero genre: if you kill bad people that makes you just as bad as them. At this point, we’re all tired of it. So when Trish killed some abusive men including the man who murdered her mother, I fully understood her actions. Yet she was treated as the real villain of the season. It felt hypocritical of marvel. Have we forgotten that Jess murdered Kilgrave in season 1? Have we forgotten the Punisher’s entire characterization involves him killing bad guys and he just gets called an antihero and gets his own tv show?
Jeri is a very difficult character to form an opinion on. I found her a very interesting character in season one. Though she was morally grey, for the most part, she was on the good side and we saw her with a woman she loved a lot. We have to remember she was the very first MCU LGBT character and is the most prominent out of those in their Netflix shows so it is rather suspicious that their she happens to be a very corrupt, self-serving figure. I became very angry with what they did with her in season 2 as she started to fall into the disgusting trope of the predatory lesbian. In season 1, she was very in love with her assistant who was likewise in love with her but in season 2, we hear she is being accused of sexual harassment by her, leading to Jeri saying something along the lines of “what did she expect, wearing a skirt that short, she was asking for it.” So we’re having the only major lesbian character use widely recognized rape culture phrases? Cool. And naturally, her storyline in season 2 became about her dying. Because what else can you do with a lesbian character? In season 3, I began to enjoy her storyline again but she still remained an incredibly horrible person. She manipulated her ex-girlfriend whom she hadn’t seen in 25 years and whom she had cheated on into breaking up with her husband and ultimately ruined her life. It was meant to be justified by the fact that Kith’s husband turned out to actually be bad but Jeri didn’t know that in the first place. Kith deserved far better than Jeri.
Jessica Jones has always had a problem in its treatment of characters of colour, particularly women of colour. I’ll admit I didn’t notice it so much during the first season because I was a lot younger and not as aware of the tropes as I am now. This season did not break that pattern. The women of colour are never major antagonists but they tend to be minor characters who cause inconveniences to our white protagonist and whom we are meant to disagree with. In season 2, we had the bossy Latina ex-wife of Jess’s love interest. In this season, we had the two policewomen trying to arrest Jess for a crime they believe she committed, a Latina woman who called the police on Jess, a black TV presenter who disagreed with Jess and Malcolm’s girlfriend, Zaya, who despite being listed as a series regular had a very minor role. Of course, there were also the characters of Kith and of Gillian whom I have just discovered is played by a transgender actress which is a very big deal for Marvel. However, they still lacked a voice in the narrative.
I was upset with how mistreated Zaya was by the narrative. She was working for Jeri and Malcolm was keeping secrets from her so of course she did not know for certain who was innocent and who was guilty and she was just doing her job, yet we were meant to see her as being in the wrong. Malcolm was the sweetest character in season 1 and possibly my favourite and he continued that way in season 2. My opinion of him during season 2 did start to go down when he went to a gay club for the purpose of blackmailing a closeted man and then got angry when said man hit on him. In season 3, he was lying to his girlfriend and cheating on her with a white woman which exemplifies the mistreatment of women of colour as love interests, especially love interests to men of the same race as them.
TLDR: Things I liked: Most of Trish’s storyline, Kith (although she should have had more of a role), cameo from Luke Cage!
Things I disliked: Dismissal of Jess’s mental illness, Jeri, Malcolm, Erik was a boring character

sleipnirlo replied to your post “bro if im this petty about how they treat dandelion think about how...”
I feel you friend - from what we've got already, whatever they're doing to Dandelion/Jaskier seems... not ideal, to put it gracefully, and it pains me quite a bit, but if/when they get to Regis... considering the pain in my heart during some parts of b&w, having in mind that I generally believe cdpr's interpretation to be proper (aside from some jarring mistakes) it's going to be a completely another level of ridiculousness on my part; like,, I know it's most probably not possible for the show to meet my standards, but pls... just... get SOMETHING right...
I came to feel so protective of this particular vampire, and people not familiar with the books knowing him as a caricature of himself fills me with dread
tbh my main hope for regis if/when they get to him is that they don’t shy away from making him complicated. he’s kind, also ominous, also funnie … to summarize: shitty old bitch.
b&w did this thing where they just made regis a very solemn character and also made him closer to the typical arrogant immortal which was just ooc imho... and then they created a new plotline that revolved around him being Uncontrollably Violent for a few seconds which.......... like i just found it SO disrespectful to how regis’s backstory is an analogy for alcoholism/addiction in general........ they literally did the opposite of humanizing him, they uh... monsterfied him?
regis’s entire character (like geralt’s, and also the rest of the hansa’s) is about paradox and logistical impossibilities. if you’re this, you can’t be that -- but he’s both, for some fucking reason, he defies logic.
regis is supposed to thread this weird line of what is man and what is monster, and if you’re kind for a century does that make up for three centuries of absolute cruelty? what does it mean to act honorably? at what point can you feel safe and trust someone?
one thing i appreciate about regis’s character is that he’s always just seemed to go BEYOND his context in the fictional world he exists in. at the end of the day, these characters are not the people we love them to be, but rather messages about what ARE good and evil, what IS humanity, and other deep questions the witcher loves to tackle. within the books, i got a VERY clear sense of how regis as a character was answering these questions and the kind of messages sapkowski was trying to communicate with him. same with the rest of the hansa, in fact. that’s... why... the hansa and ciri and yennefer are my favorites...
to contrast, in blood & wine, i didn’t get this sense of existing beyond the context of the media at all. cdpr just wanted cool vampires which is fine, but the elements of the books are lost because they just gave them up
(wow this got long sorry! i just wanted to explain my thought process behind this list im about to give)
as for netflix.............. i don’t necessarily think that regis is easy or difficult to cover. but IN MY OPINION nailing these things would help out regis’s character the best:
we should feel safe. one of the things that struck me so hard when reading baptism of fire was how much i initially trusted regis when they found him in that stupid graveyard, despite being well-familiar with the adage of “stranger danger.” he just seemed safe to me.
this is probably because of how eloquent he is and how omniscient he has the ability to come off as..... so good writing for his dialogue that captures his superfluous nature, that isn’t just what cdpr did where “funny smart guy use big words unnecessarily” ... no, you need to put effort into it by having him use words of an intermediate vocabulary, but using them in such a way as to philosophize about everything and anything that comes up.
this also relies heavily on how regis delivers his lines when they first meet him. all of his dialogue cues are like, “said softly,” “said gently.” there’s NO aggression, no harm in this man. no reason to fear him.
the atmosphere of his cottage should really communicate this wonderful sense of bucolic bliss, as it were.... the intoxicating heavy scent of herbs... the only lighting in the cottage being fro a pot-bellied stove........ remember, geralt describes this as having could have come directly from a fairytale. in contrast, fen carn should feel ominous, until his appearance.
costume design! don’t forget the apron wrapped around his black coat, please! who can fear a man in an apron?
we should feel suspicious. we SHOULD still feel like he’s harboring some kind of dark secret, though.
there are so many little clues and points in baptism of fire that hint at his identity, that just should NOT be cut out or overlooked: him being able to detect the healing brokilon medicines in geralt’s sweat, when he refuses the drink politely and says softly, “it’s a matter of principle. i never violate the principles i set for myself,” the dipping into a conversation to name every type of vampire that exists......... the sense that he knows just a little too much to be only who he says he is.
cahir and dandelion making guesses as to who he ‘really’ is shouldn’t be cut out, either. i think their guesses are conduits for the audience to attach onto as we make our own guesses and theories within this short amount of time.
we should feel fear. oh so cdpr wanted crazy ass vampires? well don’t worry, because regis is a crazy ass vampire. but how to get this through to the audience, when he’s not off his shits anymore because it’s the 13th century and not the 9th? it’s going to need to come mostly from geralt.
they should emphasize the tension in the scene by the yaruga where geralt has his blade to regis’s throat by having geralt’s lines be delivered in a very precise, careful manner. he shouldn’t be furious and dripping with adrenaline, ready to fight regis. he needs to be wary, conserved. we need to sense apprehension to engage in conflict, because he knows that he would likely lose the fight... which will freak the audience out, because asides from that bit with djikstra, geralt up until this point has been pretty powerful and undefeated, i mean we just saw him cleave his way through a fuckton of scoiatel at thanedd (that bit with torque in edge of the world was more for comedic relief imho)
on a related note, the scene where milva and dandelion have doubts about regis and ask geralt for advice, and geralt answers with a laundry list of all the things regis can do and says for himself that he doesn’t know if he could kill him....... that shouldn’t be cut and should strike some fear into our hearts.
regis shouldn’t be devoid of humor. he has his own sense of weird humor...
please keep the fucking pun in: “the immortal soul (...) abandons the stinking carcass and spirits away, forgive the pun.” i think this demonstrates how he has this kind of skewed sense of humor, that serious philosophical topics aren’t dull to him... rather they are exciting and full of riveting debate and also, jokes
that really long conversation with geralt where he concludes with “but i’ll give you some advice anyways: life differs from banking somewhat,” and in the fish soup scene where he really makes fun of geralt as well... but really the whole company should do this
don’t make him an asshole
he should be self-sacrificing for humanity. he should protect the girl in the refugee camp with the utmost conviction... i think this part is kind of easier because regis’s pure actions in the books are enough to demonstrate how committed to humanity he is, unlike cdpr which just made shit up and it went sour because their shit was all like “oh haha humans are so weak and i dont get why they dislike death :/”
tldr: don’t cut shit because even the smallest details add to the larger picture, make a cool atmosphere, paradox of safety and fear. you’re welcome

I wanna hear your amnesty issues
Ok, so I should preface this with a couple things first.
1) This has nothing to do with the quality of amnesty, it’s all just my opinion. My problems with it are a lot like my problems with historical fiction. There’s nothing wrong with historical fiction (other than whitewashing, malewashing, and cishetwashing but that’s not really what I’m talking about), I personally just find it kinda boring and don’t like it as much as the other genres, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s just not for me, and lots of others have opposing opinions (I know people who love historical fiction and hate sci fi, my favorite genre) but that doesn’t make my favorite genres bad either just cause people have differening tastes about that kind of thing.
2) This is like 90% a critique of the monster of the week rpg system, and less a critique of the McElroys’ story/playing/etc. (I am not at all an expert on tabletop rpg games, so please know that I’m coming at this from the perspective of an inexperienced person listening to people play it on a podcast, like I think most taz listeners are) Before they announced the second campaign, amnesty was the one I wanted to be s2 cause it was the only one that to me felt like it had both a strong story and strong player characters (commitment felt like it had strong player characters with a weaker story, and dust had a strong story with weaker PCs) and the story and characters totally lived up to that after continuing the story (especially indrid’s introductory arc, that one’s my favorite of the ones I’ve listened to)
Ok, so first of all I really do not like any roll playing games with base 2d6 because of the uneven chance of rolling certain numbers that always skews the results. (Base d12 is fine cause there is an equal chance of rolling each number) In monster of the week, this is made even worse, however, by how ridiculously hard it is for the players to get good rolls. There is only a one out of six chance of getting a complete success (they can sometimes add stuff to that, but it’s very rarely enough to actually make a difference), and even if they get mixed success, the “hard moves” Griffin makes are often so bad for the characters that they might as well not have rolled at all (this is one of the few things I will criticize him for). This is all made worse by the fact that they’re playing on roll20 now and can no longer fudge their rolls. I’m against cheating in general, but when you’re making a story for hundreds of thousands (? I have no idea how many people listen to taz) of people, sometimes it’s necessary for the narrative.
So this brings us back to my first preface. Narritaves/game systems/etc. that constantly beat their characters down and make things so unnecessarily difficult for them, absolutely do not do it for me. I have extremely bad anxiety and I really don’t enjoy having to constantly worry about and then experience characters I’m emotionally invested in get constantly shit on when I’m already dealing with that in real life. And maybe having things work out perfectly every time isn’t “realistic” or whatever, but I don’t want realistic, I’m consuming whatever media cause I’m using it as an escape.
The other thing that I will complain about here to the fault of Griffin, is that he made a lot of those choices based on a few complaining that balance was too “easy” or whatever. And I know a lot of edge lords out there love having characters suffer, but as far as I can tell most people arnt like that. You start with balance, where the characters succeed most of the time, and that’s where you build your fan base, so your fans are mostly people who enjoy seeing characters succeed, but then a couple people complain, so for your new story you completely flip it upside down ad have your characters fail and suffer most of the time. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
So finally I’d like to talk about Ned. I haven’t listened to the actual episode (like I said in my original comment, the last ep I listened to was 23) so I don’t know what exactly happened, but even if it’s not a result of some inevitable bad rolls because of the unfair rolling system, it’s still a symptom of a game/narritave that beats down its characters because it wants to be dark. And that slowly got to be too much for me so I had to stop listening.
God, I’m sorry this is so long (it took me like more than half an hour to put my words together in a way that didn’t just sound like angry gibberish, so hopefully it doesn’t come off like that) and please remember my prefaces before you send me hate about this.
TLDR- The monster of the week game system is designed to make the characters suffer and as a narritive it’s very much not enjoyable for me so I had to stop listening, but this does not mean that Amnesty is automatically bad if you enjoy it.

Hello Charlotte explained
I want to torture myself by trying to understand the complicated universe of Hello Charlotte and what actually happened in all the episodes, so here I go lol.
PSA: This post isn’t a complete guide to Hello Charlotte. It will be updated from time to time as I figure out more about the story.
Warning: Long text ahead to explain the whole plot.
---
First, we have the True Realm. This is where Charles Eyler writes his fanfic to cope, regularly plagued by the illusion of his unborn younger sister Scarlett Eyler and pressured to become a doctor. His mother is mentally ill and bedridden after her husband had forced her to abort Scarlett. To make matters worse, she sees her son as Scarlett due to the trauma. Anri also exists here as his fake girlfriend and Charles wrote her into the story as Charlotte's best friend. Charles inserts himself as C/Vincent borrowing his internet friend Vincent's appearance.
Later, he gave up and committed suicide after his mother died, unable to pass the Trial. He failed to overcome his hardships, thus his own life became a story about giving up. Every event after that happened after his death in the True Realm.
The False Realm is where most of the story takes place, especially before EP3. The House is what the False Realm is called with many floors, each inhabited by different people. It's essentially a fiction within a fiction. Some floors have a Charlotte inhabiting them. The 1st floor is Charlotte the protagonist's house. 2nd floor is where the school is. The 4th floor is where another Charlotte caused the Great Cluster by absorbing its inhabitants to herself. The 6th floor is where Charlotte 091 is, although merely a bunch of organs and merged with the Charlotte from EP1, she’s kept alive for a little longer to please the audience. The 9th floor has a Charlotte who consumed everything to keep its inhabitants alive (probably a reference to EP2's Grey End). The 11th floor is where Mother takes resident.
The Father and the Mother of the House are based on Charles own parents. Mother (possibly Lilith), unlike Charles/C is the true God of the House and she produces Charlotte vessels assigned with different roles for their own stories. She also manages a network from which a Charlotte can draw power from and use it to grant her wish at the cost of ending her story, thus dying permanently. Charlotte/Scarlett made a wish to save the Oracle from dying in EP1, which in return should have ended her story. But the Oracle/091 intervened by creating a channel made of Scarlett’s soul data (more info a few paragraphs below).
Father aka the Umbrella Man oversees the False Realm and provides guidance to Charlotte. Seth the Puppeteer aka us the player is named after Seth the Umbrella Man. When Umbrella Man called himself Charles in EP2′s Grey End, he wasn't Charles himself, but rather his impostor as C told Q84 at one point. Though sometimes Father may refer to Charles himself, due to the False Realm being the universe of Charles’ mind. In fact, Charles has always used a Vincent vessel in the False Realm, way back since EP1 when he helped Charlotte/Scarlett in the TV world.
After Scarlett died by Q84's hands in EP3, so did Q84. Umbrella Man granted Charles' wish to resurrect her so that her story could continue. And so Q84's soul data was uploaded into another Charlotte vessel.
Shortly after that, we were shown a flashback of V19 killing all 2nd floor inhabitants except Scarlett and taunt her to find her. She's the Charlotte unit Umbrella Man was talking about who became self-aware without Charles' interference. After Scarlett found her on the 11th floor, V19 revealed the truth of the world they live in. In disbelief, she used the Oracle’s power to transfer her consciousness into one of the Charlotte vessels to atone herself and try to understand Charlotte better. She and Charlotte from EP1 and 2 were the same person with martyr complex.
As we already know, many concepts in Hello Charlotte are based on Charles' real life experiences, including his friend Vincent's theory on how the world works. According to Vincent, every time someone dies, their soul expands like a Big Bang, forming a new universe made of entirely their own mind. Each Charlotte's soul cube is a world in itself in a form of TV box with soul data aka channels. In EP2, she didn’t think the tenants were real, so imaginary they became. She was also obsessed with the Trial, which in return manifested in her world.
With that said, those TVs we saw in EP1 were most likely Charlotte's soul cubes with their own stories. Since the Oracle in EP1 was Charlotte 091, the Pythias were actually the many Charlottes that Mother has produced in the House. Each time the channel is switched, the TV shows a different outcome - eg. one where Felix didn't die. In EP3′s bad ending, the Phythias were apparently multiple vessels for a single Charlotte.
(Btw, in EP1 many Phythias were apparently killed by the Executioners. Perhaps this is a metaphor of Charles killing off the Charlottes once their stories end?)
As we can see in EP3′s bad ending, Charlotte/Scarlett's soul cube had many channels that can be switched around yet it won't change the outcome of the story, ie. the alternate realities she was trapped in all for the sake of entertainment - proving V19's statement. The only way to put her out of misery is by destroying her soul cube, essentially killing her. On top of not being able to die until her story ends, it’s understandable why Q84 went rogue and wanted to die so badly.
Charles and Q84 left the room, leaving Charlotte/Scarlett to her fate for a while. Q84 decided to use White Society members as new vessels for Charlotte/Scarlett as an attempt to save her. We can see the old Charlotte together with Oracle, their sprites and surrounding distorted. Charlotte/Scarlett was still alive as her soul cube wasn’t destroyed. Oracle invited her to stargazing, as in leaving the story together. Seemingly depressed, she claimed everything Umbrella Man said was a lie. In EP1, Charles/C whispered something that triggered her memories, which in turn made her suicidal in EP2 (it explains the horrifying environment her channel has turned into), although that recollection somehow disappeared at one point. This could mean she didn’t stay clueless forever and at one point realized what is actually going on and that she failed to create a good ending.
In the true ending, Q84 destroyed Charlotte/Scarlett’s soul cube to free her from her fate. Charles entered the False Realm to come in terms with himself, throwing away his Vincent vessel and killing off Mother, ending the stories for good. Q84 hugged and assured him among the ruins of the House, even when Charles’ world has crumbled, a new day will still come.
(I find it really sweet how Q84 developed some empathy in both endings. It shows that she can be a semi-decent person if she wants to, however it’s hard to sympathize with people when you know the world around you is fake, you exist to please complete strangers and everything you’ve been taught is a lie.)
---
tldr;
Hello Charlotte is an unnecessarily complicated story about a depressed young man who writes a self-insert fanfic about his dream girl named Charlotte Wiltshire. She has a different personality and role to fulfil in each scenario he had written. She is predisposed to be fascinated by Vincent, his own self-insert and a false God. At the same time, this also represents his own fascination with Vincent in real life.
EP3 explores the self-fulfilling nature of this as a fictional girl is made just to be abused without fighting back to create an emotional connection with the audience. Some of the defective Charlottes who lack parasites in their brains (as in what grant the Puppeteer control over a character, it’s the reason why Q84 never addressed Seth when making decisions nor can you the player influence her actions, because she lacks your guidance) became self-aware. Q84 in particular fought back against her script by being outright sociopathic, and thus much less relatable to the audience contrary to Charlotte from the previous episodes. Charles or rather Umbrella Man in disguise later asked for Scarlett’s help to stop Q84 from murdering the NPCs. She got killed in the end, so Umbrella Man suggested we should switch to a different story where Scarlett avenged her classmates instead. This is what kicks the plot of Hello Charlotte 1 & 2, separate from the events of EP3.
Some questions remained unanswered though. Judging from what was said, is White/Black End the canon ending of EP2? Charlotte/Scarlett didn't survive the Trial after all. How did Q84 materialize in the True Realm when she’s a fictional character within the House? This is perhaps a metaphor to Q84 being Charles’ favorite Charlotte. After all, Charles is the only ‘real’ person here. Even Umbrella Man’s True Realm’s appearance was only a metaphor. We all know Charles loves his imaginary friends ever since Scarlett appeared as a tulpa and Charlotte existed to fulfil his fantasies  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Since this happened after Charles committed suicide, he can bring pretty much anyone in False Realm with him. And this was probably the False Realm in fact, since Charles’ world has crumbled.
If you made it through this wall of text, I’d gladly like to hear your input :) Thanks for reading!
