Tumblr media
Frank was, for lack of a better word, fucking tired of the weather. Hell’s Kitchen had taken itself too seriously in the recent days: the stink of sweat clung to everything and the beat-up little fan he bought from the second-hand store did nothing but blow hot air around his room. The August heat was borderline unbearable, so much so that he found himself almost grateful that his job required a nocturnal approach. Not today, though. It was still early, thankfully, and the sun was low in the sky and whilst the hum of the city was close and almost claustrophobic, you couldn’t yet fry an egg on the sidewalk. A win, he supposed. His carefully collected intel, a string of nearly incomprehensible words dragged from the mouth of a low-level gang member at the threat of Frank’s fist, suggested that the morning would be the best time to dispose of the unwanted stain on the city.
As he drew closer to the bar, a little one-room joint tucked away behind a laundrette, he stopped, staring at the door. It looked like someone had beat him to it.
The door was wide open and, even from fifty feet away, he could see blood staining the bottom, something heavy preventing it from closing. Frank glanced around, making sure no one could see him, before jogging forward. He stopped at the door, looking down at the face of a man who’d been dead for a few hours now – he could tell by the smell. He grunted, fishing a piece of cloth from his pocket and holding it his nose, using his other hand to grab his gun from his waistband. He aimed it in front of him, stepping past the first dead body and into what looked like a massacre.
His eyebrows furrowed as he took in the scene around him, and with a sharp exhale into the scarf-material, he shoved the man out of the way with his foot and shut the door behind him, his stomach turning slightly. It wasn’t even that hot yet, but the bodies around him were already looking worse for wear. There was a distinct smell of decay lingering in the air and flies were already circling. It’d been a while since Frank had seen a crime scene like this. There must’ve been a dozen men spread out on the floor, riddled with bullets and drenched in their own blood. He recognised most of them as gang members, ones he’d been itching to bang up for a while before he’d been beaten to the punch. Quite literally. He was a man of precision and efficiency, not usually one to dwell in the morbidity of shit like this, but Frank had to admire the clean execution. Whoever had done this was talented and coordinated – he’d never seen anything like it.
Moving further in, he sidestepped past outstretched limbs and broken glass, the soles of his shoes sticking to the thickening blood on the floor. He’d expected twelve members but as he counted, from left to right and then right to left, there were too many. Sat up against the bar itself, was a decidedly less bloody body, though that was a relatively easy task given the state of the room, with a blood-stained shirt and a gun by their hand. He frowned and stalked closer; his gun trained on the unknown victim. He kicked the gun on the floor away with his foot before bending slowly down. He didn’t recognise the face at all – regardless, it definitely didn’t belong in a place like this. Dropping the cloth for a moment, Frank leant over to press his fingers to their wrist when, like a zombie from the dead, the body lurched to life and between shades of red, he could see the whites of someone’s eyes.
You heaved when you woke up, gasping for air. Your rib cage ached dully and your chest felt tight as you sat forward, wildly looking around you. Where were you? The only thing that had fully registered with you when you noticed the rugged man pointing a gun in your face, was how sticky your skin felt, a layer of sweat collecting between it and the humid air. You inhaled through your nose a few times before the pain in your stomach sent a wave of nausea over you. You pressed your hand into your side, head swimming as your palm came back bloody. You felt sick.
“Who are you?” the man asked, his voice serious. His gun was serious, too and he held it like a man who knew how to use it. You frowned, the two hazy images of him in your mind overlapping when you squinted.
“I said-“
Before he could finish, you jerked forward to see the bodies around you, your memory flooding back. The man didn’t flinch, but the grip on his gun tightened. You blinked a few times, breathing heavily as you remembered why you were there. Individually, you scanned over each of the bodies you could see, making sure they were dead. They had to be dead.
“Did you do that?” the man asked, tilting his head toward the pile of bodies you’d left in your wake. You nodded slowly, wincing as a rush of pain shot through your skull.
Frank clenched his jaw, unsure what exactly to make of it all. With a wound like that, you wouldn’t last very long and with weather like this, it wouldn’t be long until the smell of the mass grave you’d created drew some attention.
He relaxed and then clenched his jaw again before shoving his gun back in his waistband and turning to face you.
“I’m gonna take you back to my place and clean you up, okay?”
He moved to touch you and with fervent protest, you flinched away, causing another ebb of pain from your side. Where did you put your gun?
“Hey,” he said, raising his hands in surrender, drawing your attention from the floor. “If you stay here you die, or you get caught. You come with me, the only problem you have is dying.”
Not his finest reasoning, he’ll admit, but he didn’t have the time to convince you properly and he figured, with it only getting hotter and your blood leaking out, you didn’t really have a choice. He was right.
You frowned, biting your lip as you tried to push yourself up from the floor.
“Let me help,” the man suggested gruffly, watching your struggle. With a hard swallow, you nodded and his large hands slotted under your arms and lifted you to your feet; helpful, yet anything but smooth. Being upright made you feel light-headed and so, with less chagrin than you’d have had fully conscious, you leant into his side, your other hand pressed against your stomach. Each step felt like a game where the room was spinning and you were on roller skates. You didn’t even remember passing out.
Frank cursed his luck when before he’d even left the bar, you’d become dead weight against him. With an eye roll and a grunt, he picked you up and stepped over the actually dead bodies, out into the city. It had gotten even hotter and now with your extra weight to carry, sweat dripped from his forehead. He stalled behind corners and tried to muddy his bloody footprints and essentially sprinted to his apartment, not ready nor willing to answer questions about your bloodied shirt or the gaping bullet wound. Not this early in the morning. He carried you up the stairs and through his door and set your down as gently as he could onto his couch, leaving to fetch some supplies.
Waking up in a strange place never sat well for you, especially when you were bleeding heavily and sweating like a whore in church. You went to sit up, but could only grit your teeth when the pain in your side made you woozy. Black spots clouded the corner of your vision. But then, the man returned. You couldn’t help your suspicion at his kindness, or his presence at the bar. He didn’t look like a cop and he didn’t look like a gangbanger. So, why was he there? You must’ve dropped out of it again because when you woke up, the pain was blunter. Even your brain felt a little numb. And there he was, standing over you, your knight in shining Kevlar.
“Water’s there,” he said softly, pointing to a glass on the table next to your head.
You went to reach over, acutely aware of the pulling sensation in your side. You lifted up your bloodied shirt to see your waist bandaged, no blood leaking through the white material. As you looked over to him, he shifted his weight to the other leg.
“I have the bullet if you want to keep it.”
You couldn’t tell if he was joking; you drank the water anyway.
“There’s a cut on your back,” he came closer, something that didn’t thrill you in your current state. “I didn’t want to turn you over until you were awake.”
You nodded slowly. He hadn’t hurt you so far – actually, all he’d done was help you. That had to count for something, right?
You took your time sitting up and turning around to give him permission. He frowned and paused.
“You don’t talk much.”
Frank thought about it as he cleaned up your scratch with some antibacterial bullshit Karen had forced into his cupboard. He wasn’t a chatty person by any means, but he hadn’t heard you say a word. Not a single word. He thought maybe it was a safety thing, but he did find you lying on the floor of a bar, bleeding out. So, safety didn’t seem to be that high on your priority list.
“Name’s Frank,” he grunted, pressing a bandage over your shoulder and leaning back, surveying his handiwork. You didn’t know whether you wanted to give him your name yet.
“You can stay here tonight.”
The night was considerably less hot than the day, but it was sticky and wet and clingy all the same. You’d thrown off the thin comforter Frank had given you almost immediately and as you lay there on his couch, thinking about your mission, you debated leaving. It was obvious that nothing good would come from staying in Frank’s home. You guessed he’d been there to kill that gang and you’d just gotten there first and whilst it may have been hypocritical, you didn’t know how you felt about him, about that. Nothing was stopping him from killing you right there and then, but he didn’t, for some reason. Though you hadn’t meant to, you drifted to sleep thinking about Frank and whether you were making a mistake being there.
The smell of eggs woke you up and, without much of a thought process, you sat up to find the source. The wound on your side pulled horribly and you found yourself groaning a little at the sensation. From the couch, though, you could see the kitchen and you could see Frank. His back was turned to you as he stood at the hob, frying pan in hand. There was a knife on the table between you and you thought, for a brief second, how easy it would be to kill him. You didn’t entertain the thought, though. He heard the padding of your feet against the floor as you walked over and turned to face you standing next to an empty pizza-box he hadn’t gotten around to throwing out yet.
“Morning,” he said, snorting slightly as he remembered. “Right.”
You looked around for a moment, spotting a pen shoved into a box on the floor and nearly ripping your dressing again trying to retrieve it. Frank didn’t hear you scribbling on the box, too entranced with the heat and the sound of eggs sizzling. When he didn’t turn around, you frowned and knocked twice on the table, earning his attention and shoving the box toward him.
“Y/N, huh?”
You scribbled again.
“Mute,” he repeated, his brow creasing. He turned toward the hob, flipping the eggs over and humming. “So, you don’t speak.”
You only nodded at that. He found himself feeling protective over you, despite the mess you’d made at the bar.
“What happened yesterday?”
He watched you write in big capital letters, almost missing the eggs burning in the process. ‘I killed them’.
“I know,” he shoved the eggs onto a white plate, thrusting it onto the pizza box along with a fork. “Why?”
Your stomach grumbled at the sight of the eggs, but you started writing again anyway.
‘They killed my family’.
His chest tightened a little at the familiarity of your circumstances when he looked at your face. You weren’t looking at him, too concentrated on eating the eggs he’d given you.
“You did good, kid.”
Whatever you expected him to say, that was not it, and as you stood there, shovelling the eggs into your mouth as if you were possessed, you found yourself feeling particularly grateful he’d been the one to find you.

A First Kiss -
When: Post Daken’s Attack on Kurt Where: District X - Bobby’s Staff Office With: Kurt @daddybamf
Desc: Bobby and Kurt talk about their feelings, decide to take things slowly and Kurt tells Bobby about Daken’s jealousy.
Bobby: Bobby was incredibly relieved to have his powers back, even if they scared him at times they were such a massive part of who he was he couldn't imagine his life without them. That and God he hated feeling the cold. It was awful! He didn't know how people actually managed with it. Still, it seemed like the District was back to normal already. Classes were back on, kids were running around and training was in full swing. Bobby was trying his best to forget about the whole thing and move on so they could all be prepared. Trouble was, the night in the safe house with Kurt wouldn't leave his mind. They hadn't done anything except sleep next to each other (him hogging all the blankets) but seeing the other standing undressed in the mirror seemed to have clobbered his mind with the fact that Kurt was damn attractive, not just when he looked like a regular guy, but when he was himself, more so when he was himself. And he was one of the kindest guys he'd ever met... God dammit, he needed to stop this. He sighed over his marking and looked up as a knock sounded on the door, "C'min!" he called, wondering who it was.
Kurt: Kurt hadn't felt this nervous or awkward since he was a teenager first arriving at Charles' school. The teleporter fidgeted outside Bobby's door - debating whether or not he wanted to knock on it. Things had felt... different, ever since that night in the safe house. Whenever he looked at Bobby now, there was an undeniable interest he could feel; but he didn't know what to do about it. Kurt had always been the devout Catholic - and attraction to the same sex was just something that wasn't supposed to be 'right'. But did any of that matter anymore? He had insider information about the cosmos; did playing the fanatic faithful really do him any justice anymore? Finally, the three-fingered hand reached out and rasped on the door. Hearing Bobby's response, it took Kurt a few seconds before he opened the door and peaked his head inside. "Hey." The word felt like it came out quieter than it really did. Looking at the blonde now, Kurt had to question if he had always felt this way about the male and just chose to ignore them on principle. Bobby had always been good-looking, but he really came into his looks over the years - and Kurt had a front-row seat through their awkward late-teenage years and even through the Schism up until coming to Star City. Kurt shoved his conflicting thoughts aside and put on a smile as he stepped into the room. "Are you doing okay? Eferyvon seems to be normal; powers returning properly." He spoke.
Bobby: Bobby looked up and instantly felt a little coil in his belly when he recognised Kurt on the other side of the door. Ever since they’d ended up sharing a bed when their powers were out of commission it was like he’d started to see the other in a different light and he wasn’t sure how to handle it. When he’d had any feelings about Warren back in the day they were buried so deep in his own denial he didn’t even register them as something at all. Now though, everything was out in the open and he could have those feelings about Kurt. He just wasn’t sure it was a very good idea, especially if it made him uncomfortable. “Hey yourself.” He said with a small grin after a moment’s pause. “O-oh yeah, everything’s ship shape and shiny. I can finally wear t-shirts again.“ He gestured at the thin, light-blue t-shirt he was wearing that was just the right side of too tight, “Wearing all those layers was so uncomfortable. I hated it.” He chuckled a little and tapped his pen against the desk, “What about you? Happy being fuzzy again?“ Even if things had been ‘normal’ for them all for a little while now, he and Kurt hadn’t seen much of each other aside from sharing looked in the hallway or their usual meetings. “It’s nice seeing you as yourself again.”
Kurt: Hearing that the other had recovered from the incident as well put Kurt at ease. It seemed the inhibitors hadn't come with any sort of permanent side effect - and that was good news to him. He shifted his feet slightly and gave a small laughter at Bobby's joking about his clothes - though he felt his eyes linger just a few seconds too long at the tight-fitting shirt the male currently wore. When he peeled his eyes away, he quickly nodded to the blonde's question. "I am. Kind of sad to be back to 'normal' too if I'm being completely honest, ya? I was kind of getting used to looking normal to ze vorld visout needing my inducer." He admitted.
Bobby: Bobby nodded at the other's words, "Yea, it's much easier to get by in this world when you look like just another average white guy." Hell, he knew that better than most; so long as he wasn't recognised Bobby could blend into a crowd easily, he'd been told a few times he has a pretty 'generic' face. "But I think you look better like this," he said after a moment's pause, "Y'know, you would be you if you weren't a blue fuzzy elf. That's my friend." And now they were back in the District there was no more need to hide it. It was just sad the rest of the world couldn't be like that. "So... You came to uhh, check up on me?" he asked with a little smile. It was nice to know Kurt had been thinking of him.
Kurt: Kurt looked down at the ground shyly, knowing he would have blushed if his furred skin would allow it. "You...do? You don't prefer me ze ozer vay...?" He questioned, unable to put his curiosity to rest. The teleporter moved further into the room; walking over and hopping up on the nearest surface to crouch on. "Of course I came to check on you." He offered a smile at the other's words. "We really haven't seen much of von anoser since... vell, you know."
Bobby: "Wha? Why would I?" Bobby asked, for once any connotations about his words going over his head, "Ever since I've met you, you've been blue, fuzzy and with a cool tail, I'll always take you like that." he said with a grin, "Human You is cool but it's like Logan suddenly being super nice or Scott being laid back, it just isn't you." He chuckled when Kurt needed to perch on something, "Well, thanks. But I'm good. I didn't wanna be around you loads in case I uhh... made you uncomfortable that night..." he mumbled a little, now it was his turn to look down.
Kurt: The notion that Bobby preferred and thought of his mutations as Kurt's 'normal' brought a smile to the other's face. When Bobby voiced his concerns about that evening, Kurt softly shook his head. "You didn't make me uncomfortable Bobby. I vas... flattered, by your compliments." He explained softly. "I... I just... I don't...." He couldn't figure out what he wanted to say or how he wanted to say it and closed his mouth into a pinched frown for several silent seconds. "You didn't do anysing wrong." He finally sighed out.
Bobby: Bobby sighed, he could tell he'd done something wrong, or at least changed their dynamic from what it'd been before. Hell, they'd been great friends but now there was this tension and he didn't like it. "But I did, didn't I?" he asked quietly, "And I get it, you've never been shy about your faith and it means more to me than I can say that we're still friends even after I came out, but that doesn't mean it's fair to put... attentions on you that you didn't expect." he cleared his throat, nervously tapping his pen on the desk, "We can uhh... just try and forget it if that makes things easier?" he asked, eyes flicking from Kurt's lips back to his eyes.
Kurt: Kurt let out a quiet sigh and remain silent for a moment; letting Bobby finish talking before he started. The crouch suddenly dropped into an actual sitting position and Kurt kept his gaze focused on the floor. "My faith vas eferysing to me. It vas a pillar of who I vas, ya?" He spoke. "After I died zough... and ze sings I haf learned since coming back - about Heaven and Hell... about vat exactly ze cost vas... I don't know vat to belief in anymore." Kurt explained gently. Finally, his gaze lifted to the blonde. "I don't vant to forget... but I don't know how to act on... zese feelings." The words were soft. "Looking at you, eferysing... feels different. I sink I've alvays felt zis vay? I sink I just ignored zem...because it is vat my faith taught me for so long." He tried to explain his thoughts properly.
Bobby: Bobby tilted his head slightly, doing his best to listen and take in what the other said since they were talking about such a huge part of Kurt's life, "You uhh... you don't talk much about that." he said after a pause, which he understood, Warren, Jean, they'd both died and come back, it still wasn't a topic they would open up about. "W-wait wait wait-" he dropped the pen and gestured slightly, "You have uhh... feelings?" he squeaked a little, shocked to learn this wasn't all one-sided. "I mean uhh, whatever you feel is valid y'know. It umm, it took me a long time to try and come to terms with who I was. Hell a me from the past had to confront me about it," he laughed a little nervously, "But... You can't rush anything I mean, you have to come to terms with who you are now and that's hard." Bobby knew that. "And uhh... Even if some people say it's against God... I'm pretty sure the pope was okay with it?" Maybe he'd seen a tweet about that ages ago? Given his own childhood Bobby didn't engage with religion unless he had to.
Kurt: "It's.. hard to talk about coping with a sudden restless immortality, ya?" He remarked off-handedly, but took each word Bobby said and listened to them deeply. "I... ve haf known each ozer since ve vere teenagers, Bobby. How could zere not be some sort of feeling? You... really grew into your looks, ya?" Kurt questioned softly. He thought for a moment and finally spoke once more. "I don't sink... I'm as concerned about who I am. Zis is just me... but, it is more concerning vat am I supposed to do vis ze vay I feel." He tried to clarify. His gaze was locked onto Bobby for the longest time. "I... yeah, I sink so..." Kurt rolled his shoulders slightly. Was this one of those moments he needed to cut ties with his old sense of 'morality'? If he was to spend his life waking up at the Bamf's discretion, was it truly worth it to live such a pious existence without the promise of the rewards at the end of the journey?
Bobby: "I can imagine..." he didn't like to think about stuff like that much. He knew he aged outside of his ice form but he didn't think he could age when he was iced up. And now he could stay in that form so easily it he could (in theory) keep it up forever. "I-I uhr... I did?" he made a face at the idea; Bobby had never considered himself good looking (he'd grown up with Scott and Warren for God's sake, he knew what handsome men looked like) and aside from being in good shape thanks to constant training that was all he reckoned he had going for him. He swallowed, feeling a red flush begin to cover his cheeks and immediately wanting to talk about turtles cause that was his damn go-to in the face of nervousness with hot guys... He tried to keep Kurt's gaze and ended up looking away as the blush spread, "W-well. I can't tell ya what you should do Kurt, that wouldn't be right and I''d be a little biased... But umm, think of it this way: love's a good thing, right? And you wouldn't be hurting anyone. So if being with a guy- any guy made you happy, what would be the bad part of it?"
Kurt: Kurt fidgeted - fumbling his hands together as he listened to Bobby. "I... yes, I suppose you are right. It vouldn't be harming anyvon and maybe it vould make me happy? I vouldn't know unless I gave it a try, ya?" The teleporter let out a small breath once more. He chewed on his lip, tail idly waving from one side and slowly back to the other as he sat there. Then there was silence once more. Kurt wasn't sure how to fill it and finally made a motion to stand up. "I... um... maybe I should...." The words trailed off as the gazed at the blonde. Kurt didn't want to just find some guy and see if it made him happy. He wanted to be happy - with Bobby. He couldn't deny that that was the feeling that kept his stomach doing flips.
Bobby: "Ahh, yea... That's a thing you should probably do, hehe." The nervous chuckle did a bad job at covering how much he wanted to bash his head on the desk in punishment for his own ineptitude. Kurt liked him (bugger if he knew why). He liked Kurt. And it seemed like Kurt was doing his best to try and take something further and he wasn't helping at all. "Okay umm uhr..." he cleared his throat and rose from his desk, fingers clenching and opening at his side, "How bout something like this." Bobby took a deep breath, his heart going like a jackhammer and (with plenty of time for Kurt to back away if he wanted to) closed the distance between them and placed a chaste kiss on his lips, feeling the other's warm skin against his own colder mouth. It was, slow, short and gentle and as he pulled back he blinked a few times and felt as though his face as on fire with his own blush, "So umm... yea... that's a thing."
Kurt: Bobby's movement to rise to his own feet caught Kurt off-guard and he eyed the way his fingers clenched and opened at his sides. When he moved in to close the distance between them, however, Kurt couldn't move. Zis, is happening. His mind alerted him as Bobby moved closer. He felt the chill resonating from the other male's body - like a personal air conditioner, and the lips on his made his eyes widen. A shiver went down his spine from both the chill and the sensation. He blinked as Bobby broke away and swallowed hard. "I nefer realized how chilly you vere." Kurt said softly - that was what his mind chose to react to first.  "I... vant more of zat... ya?" The mutant finally stated. "But, uh, I don't sink I can move my body right now." His legs wouldn't budge no matter how badly he commanded them to.
Bobby: Bobby let out a breath he didn't realise he'd been holding and it ended up being a laugh at that. "Yea, I'm a uhh, a chill dude." he couldn't help but make the awful pun since humour was a safety net for him. "Glad it umm, doesn't bother you." Judah hadn't liked it and they hadn't even slept together, just cuddled. He licked his lips and a shy smile curled up when Kurt admitted he'd like more, "Well that's uhr, that's great- that you want more! Not that uhh, you can't more much." Another nervous laugh followed. "I mean, we should, y'know, take this slow yea?" he asked, "It wouldn't be fair to push you and I don't wanna move too quickly." Despite him being a bit of a playboy back when he'd had girlfriends he didn't want to act like that anymore. He swallowed and took a step back, "Are you... are you gonna be okay?" It was kind of a big revelation after all.
Kurt: Kurt laughed - harder than he thought he would - when Bobby chose now of all times to work in an 'ice' pun. "It...uh, it definitely does not boser me." He stated sheepishly before giving him a small nod. "Yes. I vant to do... whatefer zis is between us; ze right vay." The blue mutant smiled and finally his body stepped closer to Bobby's. When Bobby asked if he was going to be okay, he answered by - hesitantly, of course - closing the gap between them to lock lips once more for a more lingering peck. "I..sink I vill be just fine. Maybe." He said softly as he broke away - but suddenly he frowned. "Vat... about Daken sough?" He asked suddenly. "He made it pretty clear when he invaded my Danger Room simulation, that I vas threatening him somehow by just looking at you..." He couldn't help but ask. If Daken had eyes on Bobby - and Bobby felt the same way - Kurt didn't feel right about starting this up. No matter how much his body was screaming 'Yes'; Kurt would respect if Bobby was interested into someone else.
Bobby: Bobby couldn't help it, he made jokes all the time and was bad at handling nerves. Still, Kurt seemed to take it well and that helped him relax. "Oh well uhh, that's really neat." he said with too many nods 'neat' ... he needed to stop saying that word. "I'm glad, that makes two of us course y'know," Bobby cleared his throat and an arm came up to rub the back of his neck, "I've dated a few guys-" like three "But I haven't umm... y'know." he really didn't wanna say it, it made him feel like he didn't know what he was doing. He'd had sex before, with ladies, and he's seen porn, how hard could it be? Heh, hard. He chuckled a little as his own internal joke before Kurt mentioning Daken caused the smile to drop from his face. "I'm sorry what?" he asked, blinking several times, "Daken in the danger room? He was in the school?! Kurt what did he do?" he didn't understand, sure he'd seen Daken hanging around the District once but he'd made very clear he wasn't interested. "And there's nothing between Daken and me, there never has been. For god's sake he stabbed my last boyfriend when he invaded the school."
Kurt: Kurt choked on his breathing slightly as Bobby spoke and quickly shook his head. "I... haf not.. you know, eiser... not vis a man." Kurt quickly assured the other, looking anywhere around the room in total embarrassment. He was almost thankful the conversation shifted over to Daken for the time being - but he found himself growing quiet at Bobby's questions. "He hijacked a training session I vas hafing... zere vas a lot of fighting." Kurt explained. He still had the marks where the cuts on his arms were healing up. The teleporter stepped away from Bobby - taking several steps before he stopped and finally shook his head. "Bobby, zat man is literally insane... he says zat he doesn't efen vant you, but he threatened to kill me if I got near you..." Kurt explained.
Bobby: Well, he’d managed to embarrass them both thoroughly with that one, great wonderful maybe he should kick Kurt in the shin while he was at it to make this as horrible as he could. “Well I uhh… no office but I figured, y’know you and your faith and… stuff.” He shrugged, hoping that didn’t come off as rude. Though his awkwardness soon melted away to worry as Kurt told him what Daken had had the gall to do. By the time Kurt was done though Bobby wasn’t worried, he wasn’t even mad, he was furious. The temperature in the room had dropped significantly. “Let me get this straight, Kurt. Daken, broke into the school, assaulted a tech, messed with the danger room, assault you with the intent to kill and tried to claim me as his own like I’m some sort of pet?” The question was posed calmly, too calmly and while the room was chilly there was no ice on the walls. It was so uncharacteristic of the usual jovial man that it signified all too well lines had been crossed that couldn’t be undone. “Is that correct?”
Kurt: Kurt cleared his throat. Bobby had a point - it was pretty obvious that the mutant was inexperienced with same-sex relations. The fur along Kurt's body stood on edge as chills coursed through his body. Was the room getting colder? When he had finished explaining what Daken had done, Kurt was certain the room was a lot colder than it had been minutes earlier. "Bobby..." Kurt said slowly and with a heavy frown as the man posed his question. "Daken and I have never gotten along... the kid is notsing like Logan..." Kurt tried to play the situation off on a less serious tone. Bobby's excessively calm demeanor was unsettling, even for Kurt.
Bobby: Bobby seemed almost eerily calm as he listened to Kurt speak, in his mind he’d already come to a decision. Daken had crossed a line Bobby hadn’t even expected a person would have to draw, he’d put a member of their staff into hospital and endangered Kurt. Something needed to be done. “Kurt, you’re right, Daken is nothing like his father. I frankly don’t care what he’s like but I do care that he has hurt one of our own and tried to kill you.” He took a breath, “I will deal with this. It can’t go any further and I will not let that man think he can attack us without recompense.” He put a hand on Kurt’s shoulder, the touch almost icy, “Please, let the others know what’s happened so we can increase security protocols. I will deal with Daken myself.“ And with that, Bobby moved to the door and left, the chill lingering even after he was gone.

MEA liveblog #4
Spoilers!
Voeld
Why am I asking a person I've never met before about "Ice talkers" which I've never heard before but she apparently has mentioned?
Okay, I took two steps back and the banter that mentions the ice talkers triggered.
Don't you love the conversation angles where the person talking to your hero is not in the frame at all?
Liam: "Seriously, Ryder, you didn't bring any music?" Ryder: "I swear, I will turn this car around" Um? Why is she snapping so viciously? There's absolutely no reason, it was very jarring. Is it because I almost never use casual options?
Vetra and Liam are so chatty?? I don't think I've ever heard a single conversation from Peebee and Liam on Havarl, but these two talk regularly.
Will I have to kill people over these whales? :/
Bought a weapon for the first time -- the Isharay, because everyone's praising it.
Damn, Isharay really does feel nice!!
After like an hour of driving, climbing and fighting, I finally found the kett base and established a forward station near it.
Well the kett base was ridiculously easy as a vanguard... I had much more difficult fights on the way here!! Is this really all?
A Dhan? Nice, I've been meaning to try it out.
I really don't understand what and where I'm supposed to find in this base...
Of course I had to climb the mountain on foot and deplete all of my life support just in time to reach the kett camp and be shot down.
For fuck's sake, they respawned in the lower base I just cleared. Well at least I'll get extra xp?
Why is the UI so dumb? I have my three powers and profile active; I assign them to a favorite slot; the powers are saved but the profile is empty, when I go to the profile screen it's unchecked, I have to re-check it and assign the favorite again.
Finally, another forward station!
Gosh, this entire questline is so dull and frustrating. I only do it because people asked. (And because I want 100%.)
Holy shit, a kett carfalon! I gotta go back to the forward station and equip it immediately.
And here's the medicine cache I've been searching!!
The carfalon has higher base damage than the omniblade, but feels weaker/slower.
Dancing among enemies with full shield and health is fun. Not as fluid and quick as the ME3 novaguard though, but everything has a downside.
Just as I said that, got shot down and now I have to redo the last five minutes.
Charge to restore shields + melee to restore heath is great
Look game, I know I'm strong, but why don't you let me fucking save. It's been like 15 minutes!
OH SHIT AN ASCENDANT
PLEASE DONT KILL ME NOW!!!!!
Where's the elevator?? Do I have to defeat the Prefect to get to it?
Turned the difficulty down to easy to kill him. I've had enough.
Oh god, I can save! It's over!!
Shout out to that person who wrote somewhere either on BSN or Reddit that the kett corfalan restores health on hit. I literally owe them my Ryder's life.
I'm level 21 now btw, thanks to all this fighting.
This wasn't enjoyable, Bioware. This was frustrating and dull and then frustrating and stressful. I'm getting off this goddamn planet. Oh wait, gotta do Cora and Peebee's quests, too.
"You made it look so easy" IT WASN'T, BELIEVE ME.
No you know what, I'll at least go back to the Tempest and buy some consumables. I used my last shield right before the Prefect appeared.
Tempest
Aw, Peebee and Lexi!
Oh, a strike team brought me a Disciple! And a Reegar! And a Sandstorm, whatever that is. Btw I don't see that last thing in my inventory -- does that mean all rewards that go over the limit are lost? Wait, there's no Reegar too. The inventory officially crossed the line from Evil to Irredeemably Evil. :(
Voeld
It looks like the quality of planets goes downhill with every new one. Eos was intriguing. Havarl was a bit too DAI-like, but still had the original spirit of exploration. Voeld is just a brutal grind.
Oh shit, that's Peebee's LM! Looks like an ordinary Remnant site, so it's probably safe to do something here without triggering the entire mission. I was trying to avoid it, but it's right in the way to the ancient city, and obviously I can't not take her there.
BTW I'm really tired of bringing Jaal everywhere just because it's all about his people.
Is it my imagination, or did my adept profile dodge become faster after I reached a new level of this profile?
Stop! Telling! Me! About! Temperature!
I know it's cold, SAM. Tell it to the designers who make Peebee run around in -40C wearing one layer of clothing with a belly window.
Of course I can't save again. But now the game finally autosaved, so I can call it a day.
Wait, I'm not getting this choice. So the AI wants to die? And she holds the angara hostage so that I'd kill it? And if I kill the AI the hostage will be free? And both will get what they want -- AI wants to die and the man wants to live? If so, that seems like a vastly better option.
Alright, tried the other option. The AI kills the hostage, Ryder makes a renegade speech. Peebee disapproves because the AI is untrustworthy and the Nexus already distrusts AI in general. Jaal approves -- for some reason through a radio despite standing right here. The AI asks to work with SAM instead of the angara, and you can make a choice. So this is a more interesting decision for the story... But it doesn't feel right. For my pure paragon character, at least.
Yay, a forward station! I think I have all of them unlocked now. It's time for The Only Fetch Quest That Matters aka dad's memories.
And an outpost! I feel really productive. "They invited us here," though? When?? But at least I had the option to talk about cooperation with the angara. Also Addison's textures glitched like hell here.
Shit, shouldn't have talked to the outpost leader, she acts like it's been a month and gives me a rescue mission immediately. But I could say that I was surprised that the Angara had let us put an outpost here. You and me, Ryder...
Aw, the name of the outpost is "Forward together" in shelesh(?)! She made a nice speech here.
Okay, I'm going to just pretend all of the outpost stuff takes place in the future. I'll go to Cora's LM and then proceed with the main story.
Cora why do you have a boring fetch quest for a LM?
Wait, the Perifona is only one ship, right? Not the entire asari arc?
Ah, okay, it's a scout ship.
This was one of the few instances I chose all casual options and they were fine. Ryder sounds realistically upset. Usually casual options are awkward unfunny jokes...
And finally, I'm free to move on!!!
Tempest
Flirted with Peebee, not the biggest fan of the acting but w/e
Whoa, I have two cryo pod points!! Bonus xp and caches on maps, here we go. It's funny that my pacifistic nerd has most points poured into military and none in science.
"But we are outsiders"
Liam, you're a sweetheart, but please get dressed
Redid the conversation with Vetra without the flirting. First, unless Peebee suddenly makes me hate her, then I'm romancing her; second, Vetra is a great person with great looks, but she's such a Mom Friend(tm).
Hold on, I've already asked Jaal all these questions, why are they not greyed out??
Why is "I wasn't close to my father" on the left and "I'm sorry, I lost my father too" on the right?
Why is Jaal speaking so slowly
Whoa, Voeld is 71% already? And I haven't even touched the monoliths!
Aya
Alright, I'm going to headcanon that establising the Voeld outpost happens after this scene. Now that would make a lot of sense!
Why did Ryder fricking yell at this person for being "hearless" when he asked if the supplies are safe?? I'm too lazy to reload, but it was stupid.
Aya feels really peaceful.
It sounds like the same actress voices half of the NPCs in this game and DAI. I constantly get a feeling I'm still in the Hinterlands...
Vanadium is too expensive to buy... I get shield boosters every time I see them, though.
It's a good idea to let me have an opinion on the exaltation, but it's hard to predict from the wheel what these opinions really are. And the emotional one is kinda stupid. The kett weaponise their victims to make you hesitate? Nobody knew that until last week! (As implausible as that is.)
The sound quality in this location is pretty terrible. Different layers of sound don't blend together but abruptly switch on an off as I walk around.
For fuck's sake. Tried "friendship" option with Jaal again, and it was actually flirting again. What's the fucking point???
Logical: "The more we know about kett, the easier it will be to hurt them" Uh, nope. Let's go with my heart this time. Though I don't want to hear another stupid "Oh no, how shocking and horrible", it'd be still more in character.
"City planners don't walk around in battle armor with rifles on their shoulder" Thank you! Though it would work better in a conversation where I'm actually wearing armor...
"We traveled to build a new life here" "That's what invaders always say"
Casual Ryder asks Cora for advice for living among aliens, her answer: "Be polite about scanning your food"
"Don't take this the wrong way, but this isn't your only city, right" BHAHAHA BEST LINE IN THE GAME
"I noticed that you, Efra and Jaal all speak with different accents" Well I didn't...
Ryder, you already know angara have big families, why do you sound so surprised?
What the fuck, did I just hit on the governor? I thought it was another question!!!
A task to relay letters from angara to the Nexus sounded nice already. I thought it'd be just a fetch quest and didn't expect to see actual letters! It's a very effective way to represent a realistic range of opinions. More than I expected from the game. And I have to choose whether to edit them or not! That's original. I don't understand how exactly I'm supposed to edit them -- tried in an alternate save, and nothing new happened.
Oh look, I discovered a new spot on the way to the terminal! Which I guess is the main purpose of this quest, except I only talked to the governor after exploring almost everything else. It's nice that the game helps you explore and force you to read the codex.
Alright, I think I've done everything here, let's proceed. Who do I take with Peebee? Let's take Vetra.
Oh, it's not a mission? Just a cutscene with me and Moshae? Alright.
I don't like where this is going. So now instead of exploring I'll have to build an army to take the Meridian? How boring.
And the codex says that this makes the mission more urgent... ugh.
Wait, the Archont wants to destroy all non-kett life in the cluster? I thought his goal was to improve the kett by assimilating others...
So that's what I need on Kadara.
I still find the angara pretty dull, but as a hub Aya is very well built.
Tempest/Aya/Tempest
Gil's poker notes! :D
Peebee and Vetra are standing next to each other: :) They're not talking: :(
I just left Aya and wanted to go to the Nexus, but w/e, if Liam wants I'll pretend we haven't taken off and go meet him in that bar. Again.
Lexi... has eyebrows?
Tann appreciated the uncensored letters! See, he's good.
Sorry Kallo, but talking about "respect" is pretty dumb in this situation
Got a Hornet as a strike team reward.
I don't get it. How is scanning food is going to help us grow it? Liam says he "stopped the operation" but he not only continues it himself but makes me do it -- for no reason? What the hell was that.
It gets worse. He gave out some classified and Nexus data?? In exchange for fixing something? What. the. fuck.
Liam's LM
I had to make that Star Wars reference, of course.
The bad guy apparently plays threatening music over the comms in-universe lol
Of course Ryder had to make a joke with Liam! She is a kid like him after all. And Vetra was like "I wish I could punch both of you"
The designers sure had fun with vertical mobility huh :D
Wait, it's been on easy all this time? Since when? I only noticed when an armored target went down too fast...
Had to melee the Hydras. Thanks to the MP community for explaining that they don't have a sync-kill...
Bradley & co are so competent!
"What's he complaining about? Put him right side up, didn't we?"
Oh fuck, a fiend! Good thing I have a flamethrower, and brought incendiary ammo.
Look, a hacking objective. Had an extraction on Voeld, now this. I hope we won't have to do the new ABC upload at some point...
"We need to bring everyone back home safely" vs "We need her to saty while we replace the codes" um, both?
I picked the latter. Liam got mad. Um, why? I'm not trying to blame Verand, it's just a safety precaution. I used the interrupt. Then, to soften the blow, told him he was right. He was so shocked! :D And the line was pretty nice too, not "I take everything back, I'll kiss everyone's ass to get their approval" but "We're in over our heads"
Good mission! Very cinematic, nice humor. I don't get Liam's logic at all very often (and now am relieved I didn't go for the romance) but he had some nice warm character moments here.
The next step in Liam's story is to do Jaal's mission! I'm loving this. Just before thiggering this conversation I overheard the two of them and thought how nicely their friendship is established. But this level of connection between companions is completely new!
Tempest
Before the game's release, people were talking about Kallo as a young person. I didn't expect him to have such an old man story.
Why doesn't the ship's database have its own schematics in the first place?!
"Just think: while we're poking around in kett's genetics, they're probably doing the same with ours" "Wonderful. That's me never sleeping again"
I've complained about the galaxy map, a lot of people did, but let's take a moment to appreciate the fact that we don't have to spend fuel!
Nexus
"Lexi: Bottom of the Bottle" Hmm, I wonder where I could find her... :D
This woman is worried whether we should welcome angara as if it weren't us who are alien visitors here... Good thing I had the option to tell her exactly that! Even though it wasn't labeled clearly enough.
I had a feeling when I saw the name of Lexi's quest that Peebee's bullying got to her!
"Every one of my exes said that"
Whoa, the game rememebered that I flirted with her! That's a nice bit of continuity. "Yes! I mean no! Don't change the subject!" Btw "Don't change the subject" not only works here emotionally, but is also a smooth way to bring you back from an investigation dialogue option to the main conversation.
All casual options with Gil hell yeah
I refused to cheat initially. Then did it in another save. Ryder comment on Jill changes! And when she wins we get all four options. Seems like only one of them confesses to cheating. I picked that one. Hmm, not sure which one I like better... Btw it's really nice how Ryder replies to SAM but makes it sound she's replying to Gil.
Oh, Peebee's in the starting area too? I was expecting to search for her everywhere...
Aaaand I got stuck in some plant. Reload!
Whoa! So that's how Remnant VI is unlocked!! That's so cool. I sort of assumed I'd just pick it up somewhere. Now I've got to learn it!!! Using a power personally designed by your crush for you is amazing!!
What is this Leliana-Marjolain shit
At least she has a classic asari face texture :D
The translations are getting weirder and weirder. "Glad to see you moving on" -> "Glad to see you move to a new place"
Oh, it's even unlocked by default! Nice!
And now I'm finally free to deal with my own personal story! Btw I didn't realize until this second, but it's great that in this game the protagonist *has* their own personal quest.
Let me guess, Alex's "fix" will backfire and kill Ellen faster?
"My education on human mortality began that day" -- the translators misread "mortality" as "morality"!! Argh!
Recordings of a quarian historian and the Shadow Broker!
I have two unlocked memories today (from Havarl and Voeld). There's only one remaining. It makes me sad... Does this mean that after Kadara we'll move onto the endgame already?
Family flashback!! There's no reason to have this specific memory blocked, it doesn't reveal anything, and it kind of restricts roleplaying possibilities... But it was amazing to see everyone in a cinematic! And the Ryders were very defined characters already anyway.
Oh, so this doesn't count for unlocking dad's restricted logs! This is good news.
I knew the spoiler that the attempted murderer goes back to cryo... I won't call a suicidal guy a coward.
Tann: "Stay away from Kadara. I cannot stress this enough" Ryder: "Lol"
Don't spring life-and-death decisions on me like that! Told the turian to stay on the Nexus just to be safe. Though this might mean he'll be killed when trouble inevitably comes here...
Baby krogan engineer Kesh!! How cute.
You know what I don't like? When the game greys out the questions I've already asked before, but have new answers now. Like when you talk to SAM about the unlocked memories, or to Addison about viability. Meanwhile, Peebee's "Flirting" is still open...
Oh, there's a viability chart in Pathfinder HQ! There's one more planet after Kadara. This is a bit spoilery if you ask me.
Aw, poor Tann is out of his depth!
Alright, I think I've done everything here.
"Our leaders have discussed whether we should send colonists there" FUCK NO!!! Are you serious?? Angara themselves have to rotate because that one planet can't support them all at once, and you're talking about burdening it with aliens?? You know, I like being a hero in this game just to prevent bullshit like this!!
Tempest
Peebee... I've already met you in Aya museum...
Multiplayer
I lost connection to a session so hard it threw me out of multiplayer into the starting screen...
Extracted from a Bronze Apex mission with bonus to combos as an asari adept. Everyone else played ranged characters and stayed close together on a roof or something -- sorry I ran off and died several times, I need to be in melee range!
Wait, it's not marked as completed -- what?
This mission has a bonus to explosions, and I still can't kill a mook
This game on wave 3 is already longer than the previous game on 6...
God, this was the laggies, glitchiest match ever. 20+ minutes Powers took a second to process. Couldn't refresh shield in cover or use ops packs. I got shot down on 00:00. And nothing registered: APEX mission not completed, no credits, no xp.
Nobody joined my own lobby, let's try again
Finally! A normal full extraction, and mission finally complete. But when I tried to disable a device I couldn't progress more than halfway
I increased the range of Annihilation, but can't feel or see the change :(
