Shared Kisses
for @steddie-week I’m behind on it but I couldn’t resist day 3, and it’s a little late because I fell asleep while writing it, that's how sleep deprived I am haha. prompt: first kiss
“Okay, okay! It's my turn now. Sir Steven, Lady Birdie, tell me, who was your first kiss?” Eddie giggles from his spot on the carpet. He smells like stale menthols and pine; Steve can’t get enough of it. He has to resist from leaning his head into Eddie and taking a breath of him.
Steve is starting to believe he needs his head checked. Again. Wanting to smell one of his friend's necks isn't normal.
Steve is also starting to realize that maybe that is because he wants to be more than friends. God, he is such a loser sometimes.
“Oh, this is unfair! You know the rules state that we can’t ask it back now. Boooo.” Robin chants from her place on the couch, where she hangs upside down. Steve is for once glad they aren’t playing a drinking game; he is sure Robin would have vomited by now otherwise.
“I still think this a weird game to be playing.” Steve dodges the question and nudges Eddie with his knee.
“C’mon Harrington, questions is an absolute solid getting-to-know-you game.” Eddie nudged his knee back.
“Dude we’ve been friends for six months.”
“Yes but there are so many layers I have yet to peel.”
Robin grunts from her upside-down position, Steve can tell all the blood has finally rushed to her head, and she tumbles onto the ground next to them. “Gotta agree with Metal Man here, Steve-o. I’ve known you even longer, and I still don’t know everything. And we are practically connected.
Steve blows air from his lips, “So this is just a ploy to expose all my secrets.”
Steve can tell that Robin, who might as well share a soul with him at this point, can sense how uncomfortable he is beginning to feel. Her teasing softens for a moment. “What if I went first, yeah?”
Steve pauses, “Yeah okay.”
“You got to promise not to make fun of me.”
“Of course, Robs.”
“I make no such promises.” Eddie interrupts but ultimately cuts the tension in the room. Steve kind of feels like it is on purpose, by the way his eyes skim Steve carefully, and the way Robin lets out a loud snort.
“Wasn’t talking to you doofus. I don’t actually respect your opinion of me.”
“Hey!” Eddie protests, but they all know he isn’t really offended.
Robin chuckles lightly, but continues. “It was in middle school, at one of my first girl-boy parties; gross, right? I hate that we called it those. Anyway. They decide to play spin the bottle, and I feel pressure because my only friend at the time is Barb, and she didn’t come and Colleen Walsh is doing it, and she—well, she’s the prettiest, most popular girl in school at the time and I’d be an idiot not to follow along. So we’re playing Spin the Bottle, right? And rounds go by, and it doesn’t land on me, and I’m grateful but Colleen notices. She goads me on to do it, take a spin since it isn’t fair I haven’t kissed anyone. So, wanting to get over being the center of attention, I reach over and spin it, and it lands on—“
“Wait.” Steve stops Robin, realizing she is about to out herself to Eddie on Steve’s behalf. He doesn’t want her to do that but on anything but her own terms. “Are you sure about this, Robs?”
Robin throws her head back and laughs, “Yea, I’m sure dingus. No need to worry. Anyway, you’ll never believe who it lands on.”
Eddie wiggles his eyebrows, “C’mon buck don’t leave us hanging.”
“Tommy Hagan.”
Eddie and Steve both start choking on air while Steve screams, “What!?!”
Eddie collapses on the ground with a dramatic groan, covering his face with his hands and mumbling, “why cruel world?” Robin giggles at his antics.
“You’re telling me it wasn’t….?” Steve trails off, hoping Robin gets the hint.
“That it wasn’t a girl? No dingus, just because I’m a lesbian doesn’t mean all my experiences are with women. Besides, I was 12; I didn’t realize staring at Colleen’s boobs wasn’t jealousy.”
“Oh, thank god, you know; I thought I was going to have to break the news to you that your gayer than the men’s locker room after a winning game,” Eddie mumbles behind his hands still on the ground.
“Only you would make a sports reference in relation to gayness, Eds. Also, wait, you knew she was lesbian? How did you know? Why are you freaking out then?” Steve rapid fires questions.
Still covered with his hands, “Like seeks like, Harrington. It’s like a sixth sense.”
Steve’s mouth goes dry, “You’re gay?” He says hopefully.
Eddie finally removes his hands from his face but doesn’t sit up. “Yea, Stevie, thought you knew, honestly. Not like it’s a secret, all of Hawkins talks about it.”
“I try not to listen to the rumor mill.”
A soft smile graces Eddie’s face, “One of the many things I love about you sweetheart.”
Steve tries not to blush, but ultimately fails. “Still doesn’t explain why you’re freaking out about Tommy. Sure, he sucks, but like I reacted that way cause I was friends with him at some point. What’s you’re excuse?”
Finally Eddie sits up with a groan. “Okay, promise not to laugh or freak out?”
Robin and Steve both nod and mumble a little “yea of course”.
Eddie rubs a hand down his face, “Okay, I freaked out because even though it’s not my turn to answer and I don’t have to, well—it’s because. Okay, I’m stalling; it’s because Tommy Hagan was also my first kiss. When I was 15, under the bleachers.”
Robin and Steve are both silent, Eddie looks at them expectantly. “Are you guys going to say anything?”
Robin speaks up first, “I think this is the closest we can get to not freaking out.”
“I think I would prefer that over the freaky twin silence.”
Steve still stays quiet while Robin proceeds to react, “Oh my god Munson! This is the funniest and freakiest thing ever. And not in a freak way you like! This is magnificent, oh my god….” Robin continues to cackle and make fun of Eddie, but Steve tunes it out. He can feel all the blood rush to his ears, blocking out all the sound from the room. Tommy. Tommy. He has kissed both of his best friends, one of which he wants to kiss himself. That just seems unfair to Steve. It hurts Steve, and he doesn’t know why. Actually, he knows precisely why.
“My first kiss was when I was 13,” Steve says abruptly, not making eye contact. The both of them stop their bickering and turn to Steve. They stay silent, as if they know Steve needs it to get through it. He is thankful for them both.
“I was 13, and my parents weren’t home. It had become the usual at this point, but I was sad because it was my birthday, and this was the first birthday they didn’t even send a card. And Tommy decided to come over to cheer me up; this was back, I guess, when he still cared too. And we didn’t do much; I didn’t like to make a big fuss about my birthday even then, but it was a nice night out just before the break of summer. So we decided to stargaze on the roof. And I don’t know how it happened, but one second we’re trying to find the Little Dipper, and the next, Tommy is kissing me. It was nice, honestly. To have someone you care about show you affection. And when he pulled away, I smiled at him, but he just stared. And then—“ Steve swallows thickly before looking up at Eddie and Robin, who both look at him with rapt attention.
“Then his face turns angry, and he punches me. He punches me so hard that I almost fall off the roof. He tells me not to be a queer, and if I told anyone, who would tell everyone what I was. And it seemed unfair, right? Because he kissed me, I only smiled. I haven’t kissed a boy since.”
Suddenly there is an arm around his shoulder, “Stevie….” Eddie tucks Steve’s head into the crook of his neck, and Steve begins to sob.
Robin quietly gets up, “I’m going to make us some tea.” Steve knows she can sense that he needs a moment with Eddie. Steve loves her more than life.
“I’m sorry this is stupid. I don’t even know why I’m crying.”
Eddie rubs soft circles on his back, “It’s not stupid, honey. He hurt you in more ways than one, and traumatized you from exploring yourself. You have every right to be upset. Thank you for telling us. You didn’t—you didn’t have to. You could have lied, or told us your first kiss with a girl.—“
“Colleen Walsh.” Steve interrupts into Eddie’s neck.
Eddie barks out a laugh, “Of course it was. Anyway, Steve, thank you for sharing. I’m glad you feel safe with us.”
Steve’s tears are no longer. “I always feel safe with you, Eds.” And the Steve finally does the thing he’s been wanting to do all night. He takes a big sniff of Eddie. Steve doesn’t care if it’s weird because he settles a sort of calm in him.
Eddie grips his waist tight, and puts a finger under Steve’s chin, pulling his face close to his own. “Yea, I do? Does that mean you also trust me?”
Steve can feel Eddie’s breath on his lips. He knows it’s probably not good how quickly his mood has changed, but he can’t find it in himself to care. The air between them is electric, and intense. Steve can feel it make his whole body come alive. “Of course I do.”
Eddie leans even closer, “Good. Because I think it’s a damn shame a pretty boy like you hasn’t kissed another boy since.” Then Eddie presses their lips together.
Steve isn’t sure if someone were to ask what his first kiss with Eddie was like if he would be able to answer. It’s indescribable; it’s perfect. But if he is to try, it would be this, soft, slow, deep, and oh so very good. Steve can feel the heat from Eddie’s lips pulsing into his own. Eddie’s hands' grip Steve’s face, angling him deeper as he slides his tongue into his mouth. Steve pulls him closer by his t-shirt. Going crazy off the taste of salt and chocolate that now swipes his tongue.
They both pull back a little breathlessly, hands still gripping each other. They lean their foreheads together, and Steve smiles. He smiles so big his face hurts. And Eddie does the most thing in return,
He smiles back.
The moment is broken, though, when Robin enters the room again with a bowl of popcorn and a loud “Oh thank god, I was sick of the pining. From both of you.”
Eddie sputters while Steve just laughs at her. “I thought you were making tea Birdie?”
Robin sits down next to them again, “Too much work and I was snacky.”
Steve throws popcorn at her head but isn’t upset at all. He leans his head on Eddie’s shoulder, and Eddie kisses the top of Steve’s head.
Robin smiles fondly at them. Then her face scrunches up in pain, “Wait, all of our first kisses was Tommy Hagan?”
“Yep.”
“Unfortunately so.”
“God I do not want to give that twerp any more credit in life than I have to. Why are we all like this?”
Steve giggles while Eddie shrugs.
Robin can’t keep a straight face anymore and falls into laughter. “Wait, does this mean we are all bounded by this? I completely unrelated, non-upside down experience?”
Eddie speaks up before Steve, “I believe so, Lady Buckley. A trauma outside of other worlds binds us. We have been bound since before the slain of Vecna.”
Robin shrieks, “Awee, guys! We were always meant to meet then.”
Then Robin tackles the both of them to the ground in a bear hug. Steve’s not even mad that she’s in the middle of Eddie and him.
Because this, right here, is all the love he’ll ever need.
***
I'm behind on steddie week, but I want to throw my hat in the ring. Have a written a first kiss thing before? Yes I have. But I can’t resist. Thank for the read, love this community so much.

911 x Autistic!teen!reader - just slightly different
Tumblr media
I love your writing 💕❤️💕💕 could you do one for 911 where Teen autistic Reader is volunteering at the station and during a car crash (someone got t-boned, but no one was seriously hurt just a few scratches and stuck in a car) Chim and Eddie were talking about how the Reader is so smart and serious all the time whenever she was volunteering and will scream whenever someone accidentally mess up her order of cups she always has in the cupboard. Then as she goes in a ditch and exclaimed that she found a wheel, lifting a medium size wheel, getting a few laughs from most of the - Anon💜
Standing next to Bobby, you looked at the scene in front of you, it wasn’t serious, it’s why they let you come.
“So, what do you see?” He asked.
“Well, give the damage on the second car, it was the first cars fault. Purposely stopped.”
Bobby nodded his head.
“You’re good. What else?” He smiled.
You walked around the car, taking a look at the two women who were yelling and arguing with one another then back to the cars.
You stopped by the first one and crouched down.
“Insurance money.”
“How do you know that kid?” Chim asked.
He stood behind you and looked to where you pointed, to where the rear right wheel shouldn’t be.
Grabbing your phone, you used the torch to look around the empty spot and reached in, giving it a little shake.
“The cars broke, instead of getting it repaired she decided to get insurance money. And what better way to get it then forcing her ex husbands new girlfriend to crash into her.”
You took up and looked around before making your way into a ditch.
“She’s a smart kid.” Eddie said.
“Part of our volunteers program that we’re running alongside of her school.” Hen smiled.
You looked around and found the missing wheel, grabbing it, you dragged it back up the ditch and picked it up in both hands.
“I’ve found the wheel.”
They all looked at you and laughed, watching as you walked over and dropped the wheel in front of Athena, pointing it to.
“The rim is broke, snapped clean in half.”
You moved it over to her and made your way back to the ladder truck and climbed in, leaving the door open for the others.
“Well someone knows her stuff.” Eddie smiled.
He climbed up after you and sat next to you.
“I know a lot of stuff.”
Eddie laughed a little, putting his helmet on your head and you looked up at him.
“But apparently not how to smile.” Chim said.
He climbed up as well and you pulled the helmet off, and you looked at him.
“You’re so incredibly smart, but we’ve never seen you smile.”
You shrugged a little and looked at your phone to check the time.
“You’re just not very funny.” You replied.
Eddie laughed and Chim rolled his eyes.
You all made your way back to the station, and you immediately made your way upstairs.
“Come on, how can someone be so smart not seriously smile?” Buck asked.
“Maybe she doesn’t like to smile, stop trying to make her smile idiots.” Hen said.
You went up the stairs and opened the cupboard to get a cup, and you stared at all the mismatched cups and closed the cupboard again.
Making your way to the railing, you placed your hands on it.
“Who messed up the cups?!” You yelled.
The squad looked up, and it was Buck who sheepishly raised his hand and they all looked at him.
Bobby planted a hand on the younger firefighters shoulder.
“You’re going to have to fix it now.” He chuckled.
“Fix it!” You yelled.
“Sorry! Sorry!”
Buck ran up the steps and took all the cups out the cupboard and looked at them all.
He turned back to you.
“I don’t know how they go.”
You walked over to help him sort all the cups out and explain how they should go and he happily helped fix the mistake he had made

BUDDIE SNIPPET - The Dream
Ok so I've got so much stuff I've written that no one's seen yet, and this is a dream sequence I wrote for my slowburn canon dancer!Eddie fic that I just had to share. Rest of snippet under cut. Enjoy !
“Come back to bed, baby.” Shannon called, softly. She was wearing a pale nightgown, the kind with lace and satin that melted beneath your fingers. They were in Eddie’s bathroom in his LA home.
Eddie looked back at her, her soft features, her long brown hair. He was about to make a move to join her when the firehouse bell rang.
“I can’t, I have a call.” Eddie answered back, apologetically.
“Funny how we were never in sync. Whenever I wanted you to stay, you had to leave, and whenever I needed to leave, you wanted me to stay.” Shannon replied. There was no venom to her words, only tenderness. She smiled at him sadly.
“Will you be here when I come back?” Eddie asked, already knowing the answer.
Shannon walked towards him, placed a chaste kiss on his lips, and then softly whispered. “No.”
“Eddie, you’re on the ladder! Access the South East quadrant through the third floor balcony! We’ve got one injured male up here! Chim, Hen, you follow with medical! Let’s move, people!” Bobby’s voice rang from behind him.
They were at a fire in an apartment building that looked oddly familiar.
“Where’s Buck?” Eddie asked.
“He’s already up there, waiting for you.” Bobby answered back.
“Better make it quick, smells like thunder!” Chim yelled from not too far away.
Eddie got to the ladder, hooked his cables and carabiners, and started climbing. He looked at his feet to make sure he didn’t miss one of the stairs beneath him. When he lifted his head up, Buck’s bed came into view. He was at the loft, climbing the stairs to Buck’s bedroom. He no longer had his turnouts on, instead he was wearing his military fatigues.
“Buck?” He called. The bed was unmade, there was no sound apart from that of the shower running off in the distance.
“Hey Eds, what are you doing here?” Buck came out of his en-suite bathroom, towel slung low on his hip as he’d just stepped out of the shower.
“Building’s on fire, we have to go.” Eddie answered too softly, he needed to be firmer but he just couldn’t bring himself to.
“I’ll be fine Eddie, don’t worry.” Buck said with a huff and a toothy grin. He moved closer to Eddie, his look shifting into something a little more sultry. “Besides, I’m already wet.” Buck’s voice dropped a couple of octaves.
The air changed suddenly. Buck’s face drew closer, and closer, until his lips hovered over Eddie’s. Eddie felt hot, burning in his cheeks as breath struggled to get past his lips. His eyes hooded, ears pink and lips wet, he moved to lean in right as he heard Hen’s voice echo right next to him.
“Found the source of ignition! Phew, boys you better put a lid on it otherwise you’ll bring the whole thing down!” Hen said with exhaustion yet still some traces of mirth to her voice.
Chim piped up next to her, turnouts covered in soot. “Seriously, guys, it’s burning my eyes.”
“They’re right, Evan. We can’t, we have to stop.” Eddie said yet he made no move to distance himself.
“Stop what?” Buck asked as their noses touched. “Aren’t you tired of doing the right thing?” He turned his head towards his bed, Eddie followed his gaze. There, laying on top of the covers, wearing barely anything, was Marisol. She had a wicked gleam in her eye, beckoning Eddie to join her.
“Well that surely put it out quick.” Chim quipped to Hen who gave him an approving nod.
“This is procedure, Buck. Army stuff, you wouldn’t get it.” Eddie said, his pained eyes never leaving Marisol.
“Hey, I was a navy SEAL for a day and a half, staff sergeant Diaz. Nothing in the books about this.” Buck said in his ear, a low chuckle escaping his throat. It sent shivers down Eddie’s spine.
“Oop, we’re back. Go get the hose, Chim!” Hen exclaimed.
Eddie could feel Buck’s breath hot on the shell of his ear, big, scalding hands reaching his sides. Buck’s lips connected with the nape of his neck, and Eddie’s eyes slipped shut as Buck’s hot tongue licked over his skin. Eddie let go, melting into Buck’s heat and his embrace.
“It’s too hot! We need to ventilate!” Chim yelled from a distant place, his voice drowned out by the feeling of Buck on Eddie’s body.
The fire alarm rang somewhere but it was muted too. It got louder and—
Eddie opened his eyes.
It was 5:30 AM. Time to get up, go for a run, shower, make breakfast, and wake Christopher up for school. And after the dream he just had, Eddie could sure use a run.
What the hell was that?

Thinking about couches…couches being a place for community, gathering, family, love, but in a particular way. Thinking about how we’ve seen many, many scenes of family units or partners sharing couches, but solo-couch usage has been deployed very differently. How for Buck and Eddie, being on the couch alone and especially sleeping on the couch has signaled displacement, uncertainty, discomfort. Buck couch-surfing after moving out of Abby’s place was kind of a running joke in S2, and then had to sleep on his couch after moving into the loft because of the ladder truck injury, unable to be truly home, adrift even in what should have been his own space. And with Eddie we’ve seen him sleep on the couch at two very notable points in the last two seasons—Dumb Luck and Red Flag. His breakdown pointedly took place in his bedroom, where Buck stepped in with him, but then he slept and had that horror show of a nightmare about all the near-death-experiences (and underlying feelings) that he’s not talking about on the couch. And he fell asleep on the couch after Buck revealed that Kameron was pregnant (again, Eddie feels Some Kinda Way about the sperm donor arc and the fact that Buck isn’t talking to him about it).
And in this season of missing what’s right in front of you and fantasy vs. reality and questioning your life and taking detours, I can’t help looking at that moment of Eddie asleep on the couch (instead of just having gone to bed) as a sign that he is in yet another period of displacement and inner turmoil. And I think it may not be surprising that being in that state sparks him thinking about relationships and where his have gone wrong and who he is as a partner and whether to start dating again, because if Buck is running in the opposite direction from what they’ve built together, maybe whatever “fantasy” Eddie was thinking could maybe be a potential reality for himself at the end of 6x8 feels entirely out of reach.
Idk, something about couches as comfort vs. couches as displacement…yeah…thinking thoughts.

A little bit from the soulmate AU:
“It’s him,” Maddie said after a second, tears on her eyes that mirrored Bucks “God, Buck, your bond is so beautiful and profound, I haven’t felt one like this in a very long time”
Buck smiled “We’ve been through a lot” He shrugged “I can’t tell him, Maddie”
“You’re gonna have to, if he gets the ink he’s gonna figure it out sooner or later,” She squeezed the hand she was still holding before letting go “I’m gonna set up in your living room, think about where you want your mark?”
“Hang on,” Buck reached for his own sketchbook and handed her over the drawing he had done for Eddie, with the special additions from his other readings “Do it like this, please?”
Maddie nodded and took the drawing, walking to her living room to set up her equipment while he changed into some loose sweats. He had her do it on his hip bone, the last place where he thought that Eddie was likely to catch it. He knew that he had to tell him eventually, but as long as Eddie didn’t get his own mark done anytime soon, he had some time to figure out what to say to him.

This was going to be part of my costume meta (which I’m still working on!) but it is too epic to get lost in the big post - I’ll link to this one in the main meta. This little discovery gains more significance after listening to the interview Oliver gave earlier - I’ve linked the @911bts post in case you haven’t heard it.
So Kitchen scene from 6x01 - Buck is wearing a white tee - and we’ve long established that Buck and white tops means trouble! in this instance the trouble is present in the scene - its his tantrum over being passed up for interim captain and actually reflects nicely on to the turmoil his mind is currently in in relation to his personal life with all the loaded sentences about couches and and relationships.
Then there is the the mid to light blue zip front shirt with vertical stripes and a yellowed tint to it - which is a lightweight cotton denim. Its this denim zip shirt I want to talk about because when I realised its significance I gasped (and freaked the person I was sitting net to out) and have spent the rest of today flapping over it.
Tumblr media
I was initially intrigued because we never see buck in denim and then I remembered we have seen him in a denim shirt - just the once - a western style one pictured below which also has a yellowed tint to it!
Tumblr media
This is the only time we have seen Buck wearing a denim shirt until 6x01 (incidentally he is also wearing a white shirt underneath it and the sleeves are rolled up in a similar manner. He’s worn a few different denim jackets etc, but never another shirt.
I was intrigued by this and then I remembered the full context!!!  That western style denim shirt was the one he wore for his coffee shop date with Abby at the end of 1x09. The reason I gasped at this parallel that the costume team have made here hits on a few different levels. Firstly 1x09 is the only other time that blimps are mentioned in 911!! Yes indeed that coffee shop date comes after the failed hot air balloon date and that locker room talk with bobby about blimps and stepping in with someone in a relationship. So not only do we have the blimp parallel, we also have a Buck and Bobby talk in both episodes.
That coffee shop date is when we see Buck really starting his first serious relationship - seeing all the things that come with dating Abby (her Mom’s Alzheimer's for example) - and choosing to embrace them (dare I say that this is the Buck 1.5 KR was speaking about in her interview!) and stepping in for all the difficult stuff. That date was a foundation stone for Buck - what he learnt from that relationship is still present today in what he has been building with Eddie - it was a moment of growth for him and a lesson he took to heart and continues to live by to this day - stepping into Eddie’s mess and supporting him time and again. the difference between them is obvious Abby wasn’t truly interested in building a true relationship where as Eddie has been from the off - he continues to let Buck into places no one else has been allowed.
So here we are post 6x01 with a scene so laden with metaphors and multiple meanings, where body and facial language are very loud in another episode where a there is a blimp in some form. Only this time we have an actual blimp rather than a mentioned one that was actually a mix up with a hot air balloon by Bobby. Bobby who gave the advice which Buck took to heart in 1x09 and which has had far reaching consequences and Bobby who gives Buck more advice in 6x01 which is likely to have far reaching consequences and intertwines with the advice from 1x09.
The fact that the costume team have drawn this parallel won’t be by chance - it will have been discussed at length in production meetings - its like a repeat outfit - only better - repeat outfits are just that - a repeat - they directly invoke the previous time it was worn and suggests a lack of change - the idea of making the same mistakes again whereas a similar outfit used in the same way as a repeat outfit in this specific way (it only works in situations where the character doesn’t normally wear a particular type of clothing like this one where Buck doesn’t wear denim shirts) shows growth - as well as the parallels that can be drawn between the scenes. Ergo Buck is not the same person as he was in 1x09, he has grown. this use of costume and colour (remember the yellow tint I mentioned that both shirts have - well that plays into the yellow and blue colour theory) is a physical and visual way of stating the aims of the show, about the intent of the writers and adds an additional layer to that kitchen scene and only adds further weight to the acting choices - and they all add up to Buddie going canon! this is why Oliver comparing Abby and Eddie in that interview is so interesting and significant.
tagging a few people who I know will be interested (and some of whom had to deal with me screaming at them about this  😂)

"There has to be some kind of mistake, it said there'd be two beds" - fic prompt
“There- there has to be some kind of mistake,” Buck stammers, turning to look at Eddie with wide eyes, “they- they said there would be two beds, I-” They’re in Washington DC for a school field trip, having volunteered months ago to chaperone.
(“Can I come?” Buck had asked when Eddie told him about it, eyes lighting up.
“You wanna come on an elementary school field trip across the country?”
“Is the school paying?”
“I mean, yeah-”
“Then free vacation is all I’m hearing!”)
Eddie’s sure it was more than that- that Buck hadn’t wanted to miss out on the family trip, that he was just too nervous to say it out loud. No matter how many times Eddie tries to reassure him, he’s not sure Buck will ever completely believe he has a place in their family.
But now they’ve arrived in their hotel room- rented by the school, mind you- and found there to be not two queen sized beds but one. And- it’s fine. It’ll be fine. Sure, maybe it’ll be… cramped. Buck is 6’2” and nearly 200 lbs, and Eddie’s not far behind him. A queen sized bed will definitely be a tight fit for both of them.
Eddie licks his bottom lip, raising an eyebrow at the single bed and then at Buck. Buck’s got an awkward, nervous smile, brows raised and eyes practically begging Eddie to believe him. And well- maybe it’s a little mean, but Eddie can’t help but laugh. He reaches over a hand, squeezing Buck’s shoulder as he drops his duffel bag on the ground.
“It’s fine, Buck,” he insists, chuckling. “Seriously, it’s okay. Don’t worry about it.”
“I swear they said-”
Eddie shrugs, squeezing Buck’s shoulder tighter and taking a few more steps into the room. “It’s not a big deal. Mistakes happen. Plus, we’ve shared a bed before, right?” Eddie senses Buck tense beside him and flinches, regretting his words already. The only time they shared a bed was the night after Eddie’s breakdown.
Buck
After Eddie calmed down enough to try and sleep, Buck had insisted on taking the couch. Less than an hour later, Eddie’s nightmare-induced cries drew Buck to his room. They’d sat on his bed together, Buck holding Eddie as he thrashed and wiping away his tears, whispering soft words through Eddie’s sobs. It was a while before Buck’s grip loosened, before he started to shift. He was going to leave.
Panic had raced through Eddie, sharp and electric at the thought of Buck leaving him.
“Stay,” he had whispered, gripping Buck’s shirt and pressing his face further into the place where Buck’s shoulder met his neck. “Please.”
Buck was hesitant, unsure, when he replied, “Are you sure?” Eddie could only nod. Buck didn’t say anything else, just pressed his lips to the top of Eddie’s head and held him tighter. But he stayed. It wasn’t something Eddie was used to- neither asking someone to stay, nor them actually staying even if he does.
“Yeah,” Buck says now, pulling Eddie out of his memory. “I mean- we have. But- but I can go talk to the front desk-”
“Eh,” Eddie shrugs again, “not worth the trouble. It’ll be fine. Right?” He tries not to sound too excited at the prospect of sharing a bed with Buck. And- okay, so maybe he’ll definitely regret this later. Maybe it’s not the best idea he’s ever had. But- listen, he’s starting to come to terms with his sexuality and yeah, he knows there’s no future with Buck, but… he’s human, alright? Sue him. The idea excites him- of having Buck, pressed up against him; of the searing heat he feels whenever their skin presses together, even through clothes; of Buck’s solid form a steadying presence beside him; of waking up with one large arm thrown over his waist and a nose pressed into his shoulder. Because- Buck’s a cuddler. Yeah. That’s a thing and Eddie knows about it.
So maybe it took one panic-attack riddled night for Eddie to get completely addicted to falling asleep with his best friend- his straight best friend- wrapped around him, all lanky limbs and firm muscles. So what? It’s not like- he’s not going to do anything. It’s just… comforting. Safe. He sleeps better when Buck is there to catch him if he falls.
“Yeah,” Buck murmurs, gaze drifting back to the bed. He swallows, then forces a smile, tight with nerves. “It’ll- it’ll be fine.”
***
It’s not fine. Several hours later, after the first field trip excursion- a visit to the aquarium- according to their schedule, it’s ‘Lights Out’ hour. Which, apparently, is 9:30. And- Buck’s not really complaining. They had a shift before getting on the plane, so it’s been nearly two full days since he’s gotten a wink of sleep. So maybe it’s only, like, 6:30 (if he’s calculating the time zones correctly) for him, but he’s absolutely exhausted. Thus, the scheduled bed time actually works quite well for him, thank you very much.
That is- until he’s collapsed on the bed and sees through bleary eyes that Eddie, instead of joining him, is shuffling his feet at the foot of the bed, scratching at the back of his neck and turning bright red as Buck watches.
“Would you just-” Buck sighs, flopping an arm to the other side of the bed and looking pointedly at Eddie.
“I’m-” Eddie hesitates, biting his lip between his teeth. “I’m not sure this is the best idea. Maybe- maybe I should go ask the desk-”
“Okay, no,” Buck interrupts, propping himself up on one elbow. “I suggested that earlier and you said no, so how about you just get in the bed and we can deal with this tomorrow?”
“Buck, are you-”
“I swear to god, Diaz,” Buck threatens.
“Okay,” Eddie chuckles, holding his hands up in surrender. “Okay. It’s just-” Buck flops back into the pillows and throws an arm over his eyes, groaning. He just. Wants. To sleep. “Are you sure you don’t wanna… put some more clothes on?” Buck feels his face heating up and doesn’t dare move his arm. He’s wearing shorts and absolutely nothing else.
“I- I run hot,” he mumbles defensively, feeling his cheeks, neck, and probably chest flush pink.
“Hey, if you’re fine with it, so am I,” Eddie replies nonchalantly. Buck frowns slightly, wondering what he means, and risks moving his arm away. Just in time to see Eddie strip off his own shirt, leaving him in grey sweatpants. Oh.
“I-” Buck chokes on his words, his tongue suddenly feeling far too large for his mouth. He swallows, quickly looking away. “Yeah. Sounds, uh, sounds like a plan. Good plan. Yep.”
Eddie laughs and finally, finally comes around the side of the bed, pulling back the covers and slipping in beside Buck. Almost immediately, there’s not enough room. Eddie’s knee knocks into Buck’s thighs and Buck’s elbow is in Eddie’s ribs and Eddie’s hand hits Buck in the face and- and Buck snorts. He can’t help it. Quickly, they both dissolve into nearly-hysterical laughter, fueled by the sleep deprivation and truly ridiculous position they’ve gotten themselves into.
Buck shifts, moving down the bed so his head fits right against Eddie’s shoulder and Eddie’s arm can go above him, one of Buck’s arms thrown over Eddie’s torso and their legs tangling together instinctively. And- they fit. It takes a couple seconds, but suddenly Buck doesn’t know where he ends or where Eddie begins. Eddie’s cool to the touch, but their every point of contact sends sparks skittering along Buck’s skin, his entire body practically thrumming.
“Is this okay?” Buck asks softly, Eddie shivering as the words ghost across his skin.
“Yeah,” Eddie murmurs, and the words vibrate through his chest. “Yeah, this is- this is good. Are you- is this okay for you?”
Buck just hums in response, his eyes already falling closed. Eddie’s chest rises and falls under Buck’s touch and he finds himself mirroring the movements, matching his breathing to Eddie’s. He moves his hand, fingertips searching for Eddie’s heartbeat, longing for the calming rhythm tapping under his fingers.
He finds Eddie’s heart, but it’s far from calm. His heartbeat skitters and races under Buck’s fingertips, beating out a frantic rhythm that matches Buck’s own.
“Eddie?”
“Hmm?”
Buck cranes his head to look up at Eddie, studying the slope of his nose, the curves of his lips. “Why’s your heart racing?”
Eddie’s eyes open and he visibly swallows. “I- I don’t- um.” His heartbeat grows even faster and he stares directly at the ceiling.
“Eddie?” Buck prompts gently, pressing his palm into the other man’s chest.
“I’m sorry, Buck,” Eddie says finally. “I- I thought I could- I don’t mean to- Fuck, I’m sorry, I’ll just- I’ll sleep on the floor, okay?” He starts to move, to leave, and Buck’s hand darts out, away from his racing heart to cup the side of his face. He lifts himself slightly on his other elbow, turning Eddie’s head so their eyes meet.
“Eddie,” Buck says softly. He shifts so he can take Eddie’s hand in his own, most of his weight resting on Eddie’s chest, and presses Eddie’s palm against his own heart. Eddie’s eyes widen slightly, but his body relaxes.
“Evan-”
“Can we- can we have the talk tomorrow?” Buck rushes out. Eddie frowns and Buck brushes his thumb over the corner of his mouth, smiling nervously. “I just- fuck I’m really tired so I sorta just wanna- kiss you and then like, pass out for the next ten hours. Can we- is that okay?”
Eddie’s free hand, the one not over Buck’s heart, comes up to curl around the side of his neck, his thumb pressing under Buck’s jaw. Buck nearly sighs, melting into the touch.
“Yeah,” Eddie whispers, rising up as he pulls Buck down. “Yeah, sounds like a plan.” And then he slots his mouth against Buck’s and his fingers press into the back of Buck’s neck and his other hand is searing over Buck’s heart and god, this is it. This is how Buck dies. Death by perfect first kiss.
Eddie’s teeth nip at Buck’s lower lip, begging for entrance, and Eddie makes a low, victorious sound in the back of his throat when Buck goes willingly, shifting to cover more of Eddie’s body with his own, both hands now cradling Eddie’s jaw.
Buck’s panting when Eddie pulls away, breaking the kiss, his eyes wide and voice rough as he says, “We should- we should probably go to sleep.”
“Yeah,” Buck murmurs, his fingertips brushing over Eddie’s skin as he smirks. “See- problem is, I’m really not great at listening to teachers.” And then he’s claiming Eddie’s lips as his own once more, swallowing any further protests. Though- Eddie’s not exactly complaining as his hands fly down to Buck’s hips, squeezing gently. He sighs as Buck’s mouth moves down to his neck, placing searing, open mouthed kisses along the column of his throat.
“Who needs sleep anyway?”

Ok theory time and I know this may be a reach but also maybe not.
So I was thinking about the last two interviews where Oliver’s discussed the sperm donor situation and something occurred to me.
“It's going to throw in some new challenges for him to deal with.”
“But, perhaps somewhat naively, he’s going into it thinking he will be unaffected and can do this without some ongoing attachments possibly developing.”
“There is going to be some intense scrutiny thrown in his direction…but only from a place of them loving him and wanting the best for him.”
So from what we know from JLH, they haven’t really had a scene in which Buck confides in his sister about this decision. And we’ve seen him discuss with Hen already. I don’t think it’ll be Chim because he’s directly connected to his sister and I’m sure she would have something to say about it if she finds out from Chim. And I don’t think Bobby is the kind to scrutinize him for this decision. So that leaves us with the most obvious choice: Eddie.
Now what if Eddie of course immediately gets upset and defensive about this subject matter. He knows Buck is the kind who would want to help everyone he can but at the cost of his own happiness. He’s so protective and doesn’t want Buck to get hurt in the process, hence him scrutinizing him coming from his love for him. And what if while he’s talking to him in the heat of the moment, reaffirms that Buck already has a family. He has Chris and Eddie. He’s just upset and a little hurt and it rolls off his tongue. He doesn’t mean it in any other way than simply he has a family if that’s what he’s so hellbent on.
But what if his words snap Buck into reality. A reality in which he realizes that oh, maybe Eddie and Chris are an actual option for him. He’s been on this journey, trying to find his own family and his own happiness when it’s been in front of him the entire time. That those feelings he’s buried deep within are finally knocking on the door to come out.
And that’s a part of the challenges that arise for him. He gets attached to the idea of having an actual proper family with the Diaz boys. Now he has to sit there and figure out what happens to the family he has with Eddie and Chris if he does go through with this. Because he did jump the gun with his initial decision without considering anything or anybody else. Will he lose the chance he never thought he could have? Or will they still be there? And that then leads to him spiraling because maybe Eddie didn’t mean it the way his brain understood it? Maybe Eddie was just saying he had a son figure in Chris but that’s all he’ll ever be? And then he’s spiraling with this internal conflict on whether or not he can go through with it and be happy at the cost of the other people who make him happy? Until he finally decides he can’t go through with it but it still ends up breaking him because now he knows he wants Eddie and Chris. Now he knows they are the things that make him the happiest and he doesn’t think he can actually have them. Maybe it’s too late or maybe Eddie just said something because he was upset. And that eventually leads to his breakdown. The breakdown in which Eddie will step up for and support him through. And in the end, they’ll talk and finally find their way to each other.

WIP Wednesday
No one tagged me, but I’m working on a little Buddie 6x18 fic, where Buddie is trapped in a collapsed parking garage waiting for the 118 to come rescue them.
Frustrated, Eddie pulled his own radio from his turnout coat and threw it as hard as he could, letting it clatter against the rubble of the crushed support pillar. Knowing they would be getting out of there anytime soon, Eddie slid down against the closest car, trying his best to get comfortable. Across from him, Buck did the same.
“Why did you do it?”
“Throw my radio? It’s not like it works anyway.”
“Not the radio.”  Buck says. “I saw the video, Eddie.” Eddie doesn’t even have to ask to know what he’s talking about: the video footage of the lightning strike, and the aftermath. One of the worst moments of Eddie’s life captured on camera and posted on the internet to be replayed on a loop by every news outlet looking for a tragic story of a call gone wrong.
Eddie pauses, eyes directed anywhere but at Buck. “You really want to talk about this now?” Eddie would rather talk about literally anything else. Anything besides that night, but he knows that there’s no stopping it now. Not if Buck is ready for this conversation... even if Eddie isn't.
“You ran up the ladder in the middle of a thunderstorm right after I got struck. You willingly just saw me get struck and thought it was a good idea to tempt fate?”
“Lightning rarely strikes the same place twice.”
“With how well we’ve managed the piss of the universe lately? I’d say your chances were much higher than normal.” Buck’s voice has an edge to it that Eddie hasn’t heard in years. Not since their conversation in the firehouse gym about ‘Buck’s problem.’
“That wasn’t my biggest concern at the time.” You, Buck. Getting to you was the only thing that mattered to me. How do you not know that by now?
“It should’ve been.”
“You might have seen the video, Buck, but the video doesn’t do what happened justice.”
“Then tell me.” Buck pleaded, hands reaching out as if they could grasp Eddie across the empty parking spot.
Eddie sighed, leaning his head back against the car door. This is it, Eddie decided. If Buck really wanted to have this conversation, then he damn well was going to hear everything that Eddie had to say about the matter. No more holding back.
What do you think? Anyone want to read more?

Oh Holy Night
Fandom: 9-1-1 Rating: General Pairing: Buddie, Eddie Diaz x Evan ‘Buck’ Buckley AO3   Masterlist
Summary: The 118 get a last minute call on Christmas Eve that does not go well.
*** MY WORK IS NOT TO BE POSTED ON ANY OTHER SITE WITHOUT MY EXPRESS WRITTEN PERMISSION. THOUGH REBLOGS AND COMMENTS ARE SUPER LOVED AND APPRECIATED! THANKS FAM!***
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     The alarm rang with literally one minute left to go before the end of shift, and as much as they all wanted to leave it for the next shift and make it home in time for Christmas, they all knew they couldn't do it.
     “One more to close out the shift, guys, let's move!” Bobby called as he ran past them and toward the truck.
     They were pulling up to the fire just minutes later, a structure fire in some old abandoned warehouse. Buck couldn't help but feel relieved about that. He couldn't even imagine showing up to a house or building fire, having to pull families out of their burning homes on Christmas Eve, seeing the devastated faces of the kids.
     There was another fire house already there when they pulled up and hopped out of the truck, pulling out some homeless who had taken shelter inside. “What's going on?” Bobby called to the chief of the other station.
     “We've pulled five already, one of them said there's another guy still inside, said he ran toward the back of the building when the fire broke out. I've got guys searching the front and left sides of the building, but we haven't found him yet. Name’s James.”
     “Okay!” Bobby nodded, then turned to his crew, “Chim, I want you to help treat those who have already been pulled from the fire. Hen you're with me, we're going to sweep right, Buck and Eddie, you two head to the back of the building. We've got a man missing, his name is James. Listen to your radios, we won't have much time once we're inside, so when I say out you haul ass, understood?”
     “Yes Captain!” They all answered in unison, then everyone ran off to their assigned places.
     Hen and Bobby entered first, immediately turning to the right. Eddie and Buck were right behind them and quickly made their way to the back of the building. The fire was roaring to life around them, the smoke was so thick they could barely see where they were going, the only way Buck even knew Eddie was just an arms reach ahead of him, was because every few steps he'd reach out to touch him.
     They finally made it to the back rooms, looking through each room and calling out but no one answered. “I don't think he's back here, Buck!” Eddie shouted over the fire.
     “Yeah, I don't think so either! Radio Bobby, let him know it's clear back here.”
     “Buck, Eddie,” Bobby beat them to it, his voice ringing clear through the radio, “we got James, head back!”
     “Copy that, Cap,” Eddie answered back, then turned and started making his way back with Buck.
     They were halfway back when the building started to shake. Buck looked up just in time to see one of the beams falling toward him, but at the last second he was pushed out of the way by Eddie. He felt it miss him by mere inches, brushing past his back as he stumbled to the ground. He called out for Eddie, turning back to try and look for him, but he didn't get far before the rest of the building was falling on top of them and everything went black.
~~~~~~~~~~~
     Buck groaned and lulled his aching head to the side. He slowly opened his eyes only to be met with the dim light from his helmet, and found he was encased in a bubble of debris. “Eddie?” He called out, choking on the still settling dust around him. “Eddie? Where are you?”
     A groan to his left had him turning his head, and he could just barely make out Eddie beside him coming to. “Uh, Buck…?”
     “I'm here, Eddie!”
     Eddie turned his head fully to look at him. Buck could see that his helmet had fallen off during the chaos and there was a gash on his head, it didn't look too bad but he couldn't see much more than that.
     “Are you hurt?” Eddie asked.
     Buck shook his head, “No, no I'm good, my leg’s pinned under something, but I'm fine. You?”
     “I hurt like hell, but I think I'm okay.”
     “Can you reach me?” Buck asked and held his arm out through the debris, reaching over the beam that had fallen between them.
     Eddie lifted his arm too, but they were just a few inches short of touching. “Maybe I can move and, ah-”
     Eddie winced and pulled back, his face contorting in pain and Buck panicked. “What?! What's wrong?!”
     “My side,” he grunted, reaching a hand down to touch it. Then he lifted his hand to his face to look and both of them went still, silent. “I think… I don't think I'm okay, Buck.”
~~~~~~~~~~~
     “Hey! Hey! Help us!” Buck had been screaming for what felt like hours. Since the second he saw the blood covering Eddie’s hand, he hadn't stopped. Eddie was getting paler and paler by the second, Buck couldn't move to get to him, to put pressure on it, the radio wasn’t working, and no one was coming. “Hey! Were down here! Hey!”
     “Buck…”
     His throat was raw with how hard and how long he'd been screaming, “Help us!”
     “Buck,” he breathed, a little more forceful this time, “Buck, it's okay.”
     “It's not okay, Eddie. You're bleeding out, you need help, I can't…”
     “Buck, I need you to stop for a second, please stop.” He kept screaming, kept slamming his hands against the debris over his head to no avail. “Buck!”
     Buck stopped moving and looked over to Eddie. He couldn't see much in the dim light but he could tell that he had pretty much no colour left in his face, his skin was almost gray. His eyes were just slits and Buck could tell he was fighting to even keep them open that much, and he had started to slump against the beam that separated them. Buck was trying his best to hold it together, to focus on trying to get Eddie help as fast as he could, but seeing Eddie look like that was more than he could handle. It was just like the last time.
     “Buck, are you listening?” Eddie breathed and forced his eyes open enough to see Buck nod. “Good. In case… in case I don't make it-”
     “No, stop,” Buck whined, shaking his head, “don't say that. You'll be fine, they'll get us.”
     “In case I don't make it,” he repeated, “I have some things I wanna say. First, you remember when I got shot and I told you that I had made you Christopher’s legal guardian? I need you to make sure you follow through with that. No matter what happens, please, make sure my parents don't try and take him away. He's going to need you, Buck, and I know you're going to need him. You have… you have to stay together, okay?”
     “Eddie, you know I'll always take care of Chris, but I won't have to-”
     “I'm not done,” he sucked in a raspy breath, “there's one more thing I have to say, and I'm just going to say it. Buck, I love you.”
     “Eddie…” Buck was crying, tears streaming down his face, clearing tracks through the soot caked on his cheeks.
     “I always have,” he whispered, leaning more heavily against the beam, his voice getting softer with each word, “I just wanted you to know, just in case I don't make it out. You don't even have to say it back, I just… I just needed to know that if I… if I do die, I at least got to let you know how I feel about you.”
     “Eds… Eddie!” He called to him as Eddie fully slumped over the beam, trying desperately to reach him.
     “Keep him safe, Buck, keep Chris happy, I…” Eddie’s arm dropped from the beam, limp like the rest of him was now. “I… Buck, love you…”
     “Eddie! No, Eddie, gah!” He screamed again, feeling each word rip at his throat, grunting as he pushed with all his force at the debris above him. Eddie wasn't answering anymore, he wasn't even sure if he was breathing, and Buck felt his own chest tighten and he put everything he had in him to try and break through.
     “Ahh!” He grunted, then suddenly his arms burst through and someone was grabbing his hand.
     “Hey! We're here, we're gonna get you out! Just hang on!”
     Chim, it was Chimney. Then there was light in his face, blinding him, and finally there was hope.
     “Alright, let's get you out of here-” Chim started to say, but Buck stopped him.
     “No! Get Eddie, you have to get Eddie! He's hurt!”
     Chim ducked his head under the debris to look at where Buck was pointing, and as soon as he saw Eddie's limp form, he jumped back up and started yelling for the others to help him. Buck waited and held his breath, then finally Chim popped his head through the debris over Eddie. He reached down to place his fingers on Eddie's neck, then yelled for a collar and a backboard. He watched as Chim and someone from another station lifted Eddie from the hole they were in, then he was gone, and suddenly Hen was on him.
     “Buck, are you hurt?” She asked, her eyes scanning him and her hands roaming his body looking for any indication of injury.
     “Is Eddie okay?”
     “Buck, baby, answer me. Are you hurt anywhere?” Hen asked again.
     “Is he even alive?!” Buck screamed and Hen jumped back a bit. He'd never yelled at her before, and he hadn't meant to now, but he needed to know.
     Hen lifted herself back through the hole and looked over to where the other station's medics were loading a still unconscious and unmoving Eddie into the ambulance and driving away. She didn't know, she hadn't checked for his pulse or taken any vitals, so she didn't know what to say and opted to just say nothing.
     Buck took in the look she was giving him, that heartbroken stare and he didn't need her to say anything, it was all in her eyes. Eddie still wasn't awake, Eddie still wasn’t responding, if he'd been awake when she looked up she would have told him. All he could do was cry.
     He registered Hen trying for a third time to ask him questions, he heard Chim behind her while the two talked. He saw through foggy eyes when Chim climbed through the hole where they had taken Eddie, felt him crawl over and lift the beam off his leg to free him. But while it was all going on his thoughts were only on Eddie, on Christopher, on what Eddie had said and on what Buck hadn't said. He thought of the dull gray colour of his skin, the limpness of his body, the silence that followed it all.
     “Buck, I’m putting a collar on you, okay,” Chim said right beside his ear, “Hen, pass the board.”
     The next thing Buck knew he was being lifted through the hole, then he was horizontal and moving. Again he registered both Chim and Hen talking to him while they pushed him to the ambulance, but again he said nothing. He just kept staring up, into a void that was Eddie shaped and all consuming, feeling the tears falling from the corners of his eyes and gathering in his hairline. How was he supposed to live his life without Eddie, and how was he supposed to tell Chris his dad was gone?
~~~~~~~~~~~
     He was wheeled around the hospital and put through every kind of test imaginable, which he was pretty sure Bobby had a hand in. He'd had his blood taken about three times already, x-rayed about every bone in his body, and seen the inside of a dozen other machines. But all the while he was in a daze, this hazed over trance of complete and utter hopelessness. His heart was aching for Eddie and the loss he now carried, would always carry, and his mind was stuck on Christopher. He didn't know if he was okay, if he was home, if anyone had told him, and on Christmas of all days. He was going to be devastated.
     Eventually he was wheeled into a room, his vitals checked one last time, and then he was alone, which was all together worse than having the distraction of the tests to at least dull down some of his thoughts.
     “Hey, Buck.” He didn't move his eyes from where they remained stuck on the ceiling, but he knew it was Bobby's voice. “How do you feel?”
     He didn't answer, he just couldn't find the energy in him to make his mouth work.
     Bobby walked over and sat in the chair by the bed. Buck managed to tear his eyes away for a split second to take in Bobby. He didn't know how long he'd been doing all his tests for, it had felt like hours, but despite how long it had actually been Bobby had obviously been there the whole time. He had ditched his turnout gear but he was still in his uniform, and he was just as covered in soot and ash as Buck was. It was in his hair, on his face, his hands. He'd stayed at the hospital the whole time, hadn't left to shower or change, Buck hadn't expected anything less from him.
     “I wanted to let you know that Chris is alright. I knew you'd be worried about him, but as soon as we got him out and into the ambulance, Athena called Eddie's Abuela and told her what happened. She's going to keep Chris at her house for now.”
     Buck nodded, the first sign that he'd even been listening since he was pulled from the debris. He was relieved to know that Chris was safe and with someone he loved, but then the tears started up again as he asked, “Does he know?”
     Bobby scrunched his brow and leaned to rest his elbows on his knees. “Know what? About the accident?”
     “About…” He took a breath, “About Eddie.”
     “Buck, Eddie-”
     “I should be the one to tell him,” Buck blurted, choking on a sob, “he should hear it from me.”
     “Tell him what exactly?”
     “He's going to be devastated,” Buck sucked in a breath and covered his face with a hand, “so I… we've been through this once before when Eddie… when Eddie was shot, so it should be me. I'll tell him what happened, I'll make sure he knows his dad died a hero.”
     “Died… Buck,” Bobby leaned in even further and shook his head, “Eddie’s not dead.”
     “What?!” He turned two shimmering, hope filled globes on Bobby, begging for this to be real. “He’s… when I asked if he was alive Hen didn't say anything, and I just… I thought…”
     “He's alive, Buck,” Bobby smiled at him, “Hen didn't know the extent of his injuries, the other station's medics transported him while Hen and Chim pulled you out. But he is very much alive and he's actually the reason why I'm here right now.”
     “What do you mean?”
     Bobby couldn't help but laugh a bit before he answered, “He's all patched up now, he's got a concussion, stitches in his side, but nothing’s broken and his other scans came up clear. The doctors wanted him to rest with no visitors except for me, but he's refusing to rest. He's also threatened the nurses more than once that he was going to rip out his IV and wires, and get himself out of bed if they didn't let you into the room to see him. So I've come to bring you to Eddie's room before he causes any more of a fuss. So, do you wanna go see him?”
     “Yes! Yes, let's go!” Buck swung his legs over the side of the bed and was on his feet, before nearly falling over.
     Bobby reached out and caught him before he hit the ground, and propped him against his side for support. “Easy there, Buck. You also have a concussion and a sprained ankle, so let's not over do this alright.”
     “I just want to get to Eddie, I need to tell him something.”
     “I know,” Bobby chuckled again as Buck tried to hop them forward, but he kept a firm grip on his waist, “but Eddie’s not going anywhere, so just slow down.”
     Buck reluctantly slowed his pace to match Bobby’s and allowed him to lead him through the halls. With every turn down a new hallway Buck hobbled a little faster, then finally they were there. He could hear Eddie's voice coming through the slightly opened door, and if Bobby hadn't had such a grip on him he would have been running.
     Bobby reached a hand out to push the door open, revealing a very determined looking Eddie and a very distraught looking nurse. “I told you if you didn't let Buck in here, I was going to see him myself! I need to see him!”
     “Sir, Mr. Diaz, please,” the nurse begged, trying to stop him from ripping out the IV, “your boss has gone to speak with Mr. Buckley, just have some patience, I'm sure he'll be back soon.”
     “And here I am,” Bobby said as he walked in with Buck in tow, “or rather here we are, so stop pulling on that IV and relax, Buck’s right here.”
     “Buck!” Eddie beamed and reached his hands out toward Buck, and Buck pushed himself away from Bobby to lunge at the bed.
     “Eddie!” He hobbled over and landed himself in Eddie's waiting arms, and Eddie pulled him tight against his chest and back against the bed to practically lay on top of him.
     “Buck! Do not pop his stitches!” Bobby yelled, but Eddie just waved him off. He didn't care, he was just glad to have Buck in his line of sight again.
     He pulled back just enough to look at Buck and take him in, leaving their chests pressed together, and took Buck's face in his hands. “Hey, what's with all these tears?” He asked as he thumbed them away, leaning in to press their foreheads together.
     “Eddie, I thought you were dead,” Buck shook his head as more tears streamed from his eyes and collided with Eddie’s thumbs, “I thought I lost you-”
     “Well, you didn't, I'm right here, okay, right here,” he breathed, rubbing his nose against Bucks, “and I'm not going anywhere because I love you.”
     “I…” Buck smiled, feeling warm again for the first time since they were trapped, “I thought when you said that down there it might have been caused by the blood loss.”
     “And here I am, back to normal, and I still love you, Buck, so much.”
     Buck ran his hands up Eddie's chest to cradle his face, and closed his eyes as he breathed, “I love you too, Eds. Don't ever scare me like that again.”
     “I promise.” Eddie pulled Buck in and closed the gap to kiss him, their lips meeting in the most passionate kiss of his life, filled with all the feelings both of them wished they had said long before this.
     They kissed until they couldn't breathe, and even then they went back for more. They would never get enough of this, of finally being together, of finally being able to love each other. It was all either of them had ever wanted, and after a heart stopping shift and a very chaotic Christmas Eve, they finally had it.
     When they eventually managed to pull away from each other, both completely exhausted from not only the events of the day but the rollercoaster of emotions as well, Eddie shifted over in the bed and lifted the blanket for Buck to shimmy in beside him. He tucked himself right next to Eddie, settling onto his chest with his head in the crook of his neck, and their arms wrapped around each other tightly.
     Just as they settled in, a nurse walked through the door and past Bobby. She stopped dead upon seeing them stuffed onto the bed together, especially since Eddie had just nearly died and still had very fresh stitches holding him together. “No, no you guys can't lie like that. Mr. Diaz needs to rest-”
     Bobby reached out to gently grab her arm and pull her back toward the door, guiding her out of the room and whispered, “I think you'll find that you'll have a much harder time getting them to rest if you try and separate them, trust me, this is the best for both of them right now.”
     The nurse tried to protest, but Bobby just shook his head and led her out. He turned back to grab the door handle, sneaking one last peek in at the boys before he closed it, then left.
     Once Eddie heard the door open, he peeked an eye open to look down at Buck who was pretty much already asleep, then he looked over to the clock on the wall above the door. “Hey, Buck,” he whispered, and Buck hummed sleepily, “merry Christmas, Cariño.”
     Buck lifted his head off of Eddie's chest just enough to see that the clock read 4:49 am, Christmas day. He smiled and laid back on Eddie's chest, lifting his chin up just enough to place a loving kiss along his jawline. “Merry Christmas, Eds, I love you.”
     “I love you too.”

Chim x Teen!reader - setting you up
Tumblr media
I love your imagines, could you do one for 911 where teen Reader is being fostered by Chim and they're trying to get him to date Maddie? Fluffy ending with the Reader doing a fist bump when Chim and Maddie go out on a date? - Anon💜
Padding into the fire station, you looked around and found the man you were looking for, and you walked over, tugging the back of his shirt.
“(Y/N)?” Buck asked.
You grabbed his hand and tugged him away from everyone else.
“Is Maddie dating anyone?”
“No but I think you might be a little to young for her.”
You slapped his arm and he laughed, rubbing the spot where you had slapped him.
“No she isn’t. Why?”
You looked around and gestured for him to crouch down a little so he did, resting his hands on his knees as he looked at you.
“Because Chim likes her, and I know she likes him so I’m gonna set them up on a date, do you think Bobby and Hen and Eddie could help us?”
“Us?”
“Yeah, you’re in on this now so if it goes wrong I’m not the only one in trouble.”
Buck rolled his eyes at you.
“Alright thanks for that kid. But yeah I think we can get them aboard, when?”
“Friday and 8pm here.”
Buck nodded his head and stood up properly again.
“How will you get them to agree to it?”
“Easy! I have that sorted! I need you to get the others to sort out food, drink, music and lighting, all that’s up to you guys leave Chim and Maddie up to me!”
Buck nodded his head with a smile and you both fist bumped one another and you looked to the side to see Chim coming over.
“I don’t like it when you two are alone, what’re you roping my kid into Buck?”
“Nothing I swear! They just wanted to talk about something.”
Chim turned to you, raising a brow at you.
“Yup! I was talking to him about school. Can I ask you something?”
Chim and gestured for you to follow him so you did and he took you up the stairs and turned around to face you.
“Is everything okay?” Chim asked you.
“I’ve never been on a date before. Will you come on one with me on Friday? Like a parent kid kinda thing?”
Chim cracked a small smile, reaching out he ruffled your hair a little.
“Of course I will. When and where?”
You hummed a little, pretending to be thinking about it.
“Here on Friday at 8pm?”
“Absolutely, casual or formal?”
The furrowed your brows a little, and he laughed, explaining the difference between the two kind of dates for you.
“Oh! Oh formal!”
“Formal it is. Am I meeting you here?” He asked.
You nodded your head excitedly and you ran away and he laughed softly, standing on the railing as he watched you go run over to Buck and Eddie.
That was Chim sorted, now all you had to do was get Maddie to come to the same place at the same time, and you had a plan for that as well.
You took Bucks phone, getting him to unlocked it you found his sisters number and told her it was you and asked her to come have lunch with you.
Maddie happily agreed, and Buck drove you to a nearby cafe to meeting up with his sister.
You had only met a few times, and you were hoping that would work in your favour.
“Hey (Y/N), Buck. This is a nice surprise.” Maddie smiled.
“We thought you could use a break, and they were getting hungry.” Buck laughed.
You nodded, kicking your legs a little as you sipped your drink and looked at her.
“I don’t think we’ve really had time to actually talk, have we (Y/N)?” Maddie asked.
You shook your head and set your drink aside.
“No we haven’t, but I have a way to solve that!” You beamed.
Maddie laughed a little, setting her drink down as she looked at you.
“Oh you do? And what’s that?”
“Me. You. Friday at 8pm at the station, formal wear.” You grinned.
Maddie laughed.
“Is this you trying to ask me on a date?”
“Well, not a date date, like like dinner so we can get to know each other. Please!”
Maddie looked at both you and Buck smiling widely, and she rolled her eyes before resting her arms on table and looked at you.
“Does Chim know about this?”
“You can’t tell him! He’ll be salty because I asked you out and not him. But I know him, he’s old.”
Maddie laughed softly and nodded.
“Alright. I won’t tell Chim, but I’ll be there.”
You cheered and ducked under the table to sit next to Maddie instead and beamed at Buck who beamed back.
Maddie smiled softly down at you, wanting to get to know you some more.
Everything was going smoothly, and you were watching Eddie put up some lights while Bobby was cooking some food.
“Is here good?” Eddie asked you.
“Perfect!”
Eddie made sure it was secure before jumping down and stood next to you, nodding his head in approval at his handy work.
Hen and Buck game up holding a bag.
“Drinks are sorted, since this is a fire station Bobby said no alcohol so we found some alcohol free wine.” Hen smiled.
She smiled and set it on the table and you grinned happily.
“So why are we all conspiring with you on this (Y/N)?” Bobby asked.
“Because I’m fed up of watching Chim pretend he doesn’t like Maddie, and I know Maddie likes Chim because Buck told me.”
“You shouldn’t meddle in this business.” He said.
“Hey, no one said you had to cook mr captain man.”
He rolled his eyes at you and plated up the food and you grinned, jumping up and down.
“Hen! Hen! Go tell Chim to close his eyes!”
“Alright! Alright!” She laughed.
You followed her and hide around the corner and she made sure your foster dad closed his eyes before gesturing for you to come out.
“You have to keep your eyes closed until I say.”
“I don’t like this.”
“You don’t have to like it you just have to do it.”
Taking his hand, you carefully led him up the stairs and sat him down.
“Wait here, don’t speak.”
“(Y/N)…”
“No talking!” You huffed.
You poked his head and ran back downstairs with Buck so he could do the same thing with his sister.
“You have to stay quiet, (Y/N) doesn’t know you’re here yet.” Buck whispered.
“I don’t trust this but alright.”
You grinned, giving Buck and thumbs up and followed behind them as he led Maddie upstairs and sat her down as well.
Bobby brought the food over while Hen poured them their drinks and they all stepped back while you stood next to the table.
“Okay open your eyes!”
Both of them did and stared at one another in pure shock.
“It’s a set up! You’re on a date enjoy!”
They looked at one another confused before looking back to your again.
“You told me you’ve never been on a date?”
“And you told me you wanted to get to know me more?”
“And both of those things happen to be true, but you two like each other, but won’t do anything about it, so now you’re on a date with one another! With the help of the awesome people here.”
Chim turned to Maddie.
“Are you.. are you okay with this?” He asked.
Maddie smiled softly, shaking her head.
“Yeah. Yeah I am, are you?”
Chim immediately nodded his head and you cheered, giving Eddie, Bobby, Hen and Buck a fist bumped.
“This isn’t over (Y/N)!” Chim called.
“It is right now enjoy your date! I’m going out with Bobby and he said he’d drop me back home when you’re ready!”
“I’ll take good care of them don’t you worry, you two enjoy your date.” Bobby smiled.
You hugged Chim, and he rolled his eyes, hugging you back.
“Thank you…” he whispered.
“You’re welcome…”
You let go and hugged Maddie as well.
“We’ll go for that dinner tomorrow I promise Maddie.”
“We better.”
You laughed and ran down the stairs after Bobby with a huge grin on your face and Chim and Maddie shared a look, both of them laughing as they started their date

_____
Buck loves his job. Undeniably so. It’s probably one of, if not the best, things that’s ever happened to him, and he could never imagine life without it. It’s brought him so many amazing things in his life now: belonging, safety, love, a place to call home, people to call family, and in recent developments- the newfound love of his life.
Or newrealized as Chim liked to say (“As happy as we are for you and Eddie, the rest of us have had to bear witness to 5 years worth of high school level pining. We’ve known for years now.”)
Despite names or titles, Buck loves this life he has. And now that it’s all come together, he couldn’t be more excited. That is… for the most part.
It was a simple enough rule- “Keep PDA to a minimum while at work, please,” as quoted by a very supportive yet exasperated Bobby.
Buck gets it. Really, he does. It's department policy to keep everything within the guides of professionalism at work. And granted, given his past history, he also understands the gentle reiteration about PDA- which he and Eddie had so far in their month-long relationship have done a very good job abiding by, thank you very much.
That being said, it doesn’t mean it’s not easy.
There are definitely times he and Eddie both visibly fight the urge to lean into each other while on shift. Too many moments where a kiss quickly diverges into a hug last minute or when one of them reaches out with the intention of holding hands only to change course and become a reassuring forearm squeeze instead.
They both make up for it at home; neither one of them shy about sharing affection off hours. There, they both find themselves more than eager to satiate the small little craving, that whisper beneath the skin that longs for familiar, loving touch.
But it’s still rough, and Buck is slowly beginning to realize his endurance is not as surefire as he once thought. Especially on nights like these.
It takes about 45 minutes of tossing and turning in his bunk before Buck admits defeat in any attempt to try and rest. It’s not the fact that he’s isn’t tired- no, he’s exhausted. The kind of sickening exhaustion that comes from working a series of hellishly long calls only to top the night off with a five-alarm. The same kind that takes a toll on his body, that’s been keeping his mind racing since they got back, even despite any futile attempt to go try and get some rest.
He tosses off his blankets and quietly makes his way out of the bunk room, careful not to make too much of a disruption. Buck figures that, at the very least, he can keep his mind busy with something else until he grows tired or until they get another call.
Buck wonders vaguely if a midnight snack might be the thing he needs. He doubts it, but it doesn’t hurt to try. With gentle caution, he pads up the stairs, doing his best to stay quiet. His plans, however, quickly change once he makes it to the top of the stairs and sees a familiar face already there.
Sitting on the top of the kitchen counter, an apple in hand, he spots Eddie absentmindedly staring off at some random spot on the floor. Buck notes the similarly hung exhaustion still clinging to him even from where he's standing. He watches as he thoughtlessly fidgets with the apple in his hand, eventually plucking off the stem before flicking it towards the sink. Buck takes it as his cue and makes his way over tiredly. Eddie must be more out of it than he thought because he doesn't seem to notice Buck’s presence till he speaks.
“Hey,” Buck greets softly.
Eddie perks his head up at the sound of Buck's voice, smiling once he realizes who it is. He doesn’t light up per se, it's more so a muted light, one laced with heavy fatigue weighing down his shoulders, but the warmth beneath his smile is still there, which is more than enough for Buck. “Hi,” he responds sweetly, traces of tiredness still lingering in his voice.
It’s just loud enough for the affection to still travel, still soft enough for only them to both hear. Buck secretly loves these moments, these quiet acts of genuine sincerity.
He glances over his shoulder, eyes quickly darting around the loft, noting how it's now empty save for the two of them. Everyone else has probably headed down either to the bunks or the showers. They’ll probably be alone up here for a while. Which is all the justification Buck needs before he makes up his mind.
Buck makes his way over to him tiredly all the while, Eddie simply just smiles, setting aside his apple in favor of opening a spot for Buck nestled between his knees. Wordlessly, they fall to each other, resettling into a position they’ve become so familiar with for so long. It's almost surreal just how naturally it all falls. Just how easily they meld in tune with one another. It's a warm, gentle thought that brings Buck a wave of comfort as his head tucks itself into the crook of Eddie’s neck.
He savors the moment for a while, mellowing in the warmth of Eddie’s body and the tenderness of his touch. It’s very rare for them to find the time or opportunity like this at work, and now that he has it, Buck is reluctant to let it go so quickly. He’s more than grateful that Eddie seems to share that same sentiment, looking to hold onto this moment just as long as Buck is willing to as well. From above him, he feels Eddie tightens his grip on their hug, readjusting his hold on Buck’s shoulders to embrace him even softer than he had previously. “I missed you,” Buck mutters quietly into the junction of Eddie’s neck, a small gentle admittance delicate in the meaning within.
Eddie breathes out in a relaxing huff, an unspoken sound of understanding before he shifts slightly and presses his lips to Buck’s temple. “I missed you too,” he whispers between kisses.
Buck wishes he could stay like this forever, caught in this little uninterrupted moment, this small pocket of the universe reserved just for them as they hold one another close. It’s pleasant to know that in 8 more hours, he can look forward to another moment like this when both he and Eddie can be caught back up in the warm, gentle haven of their California king. Until then, this delicate act shared between them will suffice.
Minutes pass, maybe phasing into hours if Buck really hopes. He wants more than anything to get lost in this serenity, though soon enough, the eventual tug at the back of his neck begins to ache uncomfortably, straining his neck from the bent angle. Buck pulls away from the crook of Eddie’s neck, yet he’s not all that ready to retract from the contact fully. So quietly, he leans forward and rests their foreheads together, and almost magnetically, Eddie follows, settling wordlessly against Buck. Their noses brush together, an incredibly soft and intimate gesture that even now causes Buck to grow warm as a subtle billow of red blush rolls around, cascading his features. He giggles slightly, the sound low and quiet in the late hour.
Eddie perks attention back up to Buck with a curious furrow to his brow. “What?” he smiles, tilting his head slightly to catch the glimpse of Buck’s own tender little smile.
“Just thinkin’,” he replies.
He hears Eddie chuckle slightly. “About?” he prods gently, his nose brushing further against Buck’s, only causing Buck to beam at how adorable his boyfriend is.
“T-Rexes,” he murmurs casually, causing Eddie to snort a small laugh beneath him. It’s a little hard to see from this angle, but judging off his giggle, Buck can only picture the most fondly intrigued expression on his boyfriend’s face.
“Oh really?”
“Mhmm,” Buck hums in affirmation. Christopher has been in a pretty big dinosaur phase lately, so at least 60% of all of Buck's current fun facts have been dino related within the past few weeks. “Did you know that their noses are really sensitive, so to show affection to other T-Rexes, they nuzzle their snouts together?”
He can’t really see Eddie’s expression from this angle, but it’s not hard to picture the fond little smile across his face as he chuckles in response. “So…it’s like their version of kisses?”
Buck ponders for a moment. “Yeah, I guess so.” The documentary he watched with Chris didn’t really explain it any further, but if there was a dinosaur equivalent of kisses, Buck assumes that would be it. He doesn’t have a chance to really question it further before he feels Eddie surge up slightly and press his nose further against Buck’s, nuzzling back and forth sweetly. “Baby, what are you doing?” Buck giggles, amused.
“Giving you T-rex kisses,” he murmurs back with quiet fatigue still laced in his voice. “You know, since we’re not allowed to actually kiss during shift.” They could probably get away with it now, considering there's no one around right now, but somehow Buck finds himself content with this moment as is. It’s one thing he adores about Eddie, this side of him that Buck is so honored to see. He had half expected him to be a fumbling mess when it came to affection, but it was a very endearing, pleasant surprise to find out that Eddie Diaz is actually a huge fucking romantic at heart.
Buck smiles, shameless joy flowing from the edges of pure unrestrained affection. The type of sweet, gentle love he could bask in forever. “You’re a dork, you know that?”
The hand cradling the back of his neck drifts up, resting now on the side of his jaw. He feels a tender finger brush his temple, carefully outlining right where his birthmark would sit. “Yeah, but I’m your dork.”
Buck nods slightly, careful not to move too far as to separate them. “You are. And I’m your dork too.”
“Wouldn’t want it any other way.”
Later on, when their shift heads off to its end, they’ll head home, cuddled in bed with one another to make up for the space apart. But in the meantime, the gentle trade of T-rex kisses is more than enough.

Hi 👋 so I haven't read your episode analysis yet so I have nothing to comment about this week's episode yet. At least not specifically. I have seen some people talking about Eddie going to his father and honestly I don't understand why some people are against it. Yes, Eddie's father wasn't the best dad but frankly, I think Eddie's mother is a far bigger problem. His dad is all about expectations and forcing Eddie to meet those expectations, which is bad a lot of the time, but....his mom, she's about undermining him and basically knocking him down whenever he tries to reach those expectations. She's the one dismissive Shanon. She's the one pushing to keep Christopher and belittling Eddie for even thinking he could raise him. Hell, even when she's telling the story about Eddie trying to get her to the hospital when she went into labour, it's told in a very belittling manor. So, while Ramon was an issue, much like with Buck it's the mother that brings the most damage. (In my opinion anyway)
No worries, my darling! I just hope you enjoy my 604 meta when you do read it. IF you want to! You never have to. *hugs*
Oh, regarding Helena, I have to admit that I didn’t much like the way the show pretended in 517 like she never did anything wrong (through Eddie’s words, when he says it’s only his dad who’s the problem in his family). It very much erases what we’ve seen in 315 and I’m not on board with that. Because you’re right, Helena came across as very toxic as a parent in that ep. And she seemed to push the conversation about Eddie giving up Chris even more than Ramon.
I haven’t seen the posts where people expressed an issue with Eddie and Ramon speaking in 604, so I don’t know how they framed it, did they mention Helena explicitly? ‘Coz I have to admit that my assumption is, they’re mostly having trouble letting go of their anger towards Ramon. At the end of the day, just because Eddie forgave him, doesn’t mean all fans are ready to. It’s a bit like what Hen said to Chim in 204, you know? That he’s free to forgive Tatiana and move on, but Hen, as his friend, gets to hold a grudge against Chim’s ex forever. If that’s their motivation, I find it to be human and understandable, basically coming from a place of being protective over Eddie, even if it’s not where I personally am. I very much recognize that Ramon is probably the product of his own dad most likely setting up this example through his own behavior. Inter-generational patterns of behavior are so difficult to break through! Eddie is amazing for being able to. But let’s be honest, he’s also born at the right time historically speaking to help him in breaking the pattern. Ramon’s older, he’s not quite exposed to the same social influences Eddie is, and yet, he’s still able to hear his son, and to work on making this change happen, so I am proud of both of them.
We haven’t seen Helena making this change, and since in 517, it wasn’t even acknowledged that she did anything wrong... -_- I hope 911 does come back to this at some point, and gives Helena a chance to redeem herself as well.
Thank you for this ask, lovely! I hope my answer’s okay, and that you have a great day. And here is my ask tag! xoxox

that won’t happen to us
Tumblr media
just another finsihed fic that was lost in my wip folder <3
rated g | 2.8k words| read on ao3
summary:
Opening the door, Eddie was not met with the pizza person, but by his best friend instead.
Buck looked adorable, standing there with a sleeping bag in one hand, duffel rested over his shoulder, a bashful smile splayed over his face, Buck turning those blues just out of Eddie’s view.
“Got room for one more?”
-or-
another fic in which Buck goes to the sleepover instead of meeting Red
Eddie turned toward the door when he heard the doorbell ring, calling out behind him as he went to answer it.
“Pizza’s here!”
The kids all hollered with joy at Eddie’s announcement, the sound of little footsteps heading to the kitchen sounding behind him.
Well, it wasn’t the pizza he and the kids had been looking forward too, though this was certainly much better.
“Of course. You know you’re always welcome here.”
Buck ducked his head in that way he usually did when he was avoiding something, Eddie stepping back to let him in.
“Buck!”
Christopher came over as quick as his crutches would allow, falling right into Buck’s arms. Buck lifted him into the air, spinning Chris around as he went.
“Hey buddy. Hope you don’t mind me crashing your sleepover?”
Chris grinned up to Buck, shaking his head.
“Can you help us build a fort? You make the best ones!”
Buck looked over to Eddie who simply smiled to him, waving his best friend and kids off to the living room. Eddie watched as Buck gathered all the blankets and pillows around the house, not even having to ask where anything was; he’d been over too many times to count.
While Buck entertained the kids with his fort building skills, Eddie went about the kitchen, gathering paper plates and cups, along with napkins that he set up on the table.
When the doorbell rang again, the fort was complete, Eddie smiling fondly as he walked past to collect the pizza.
The two of them helped the kids get set up with their slices of pizza and drinks, guiding them into the fort so they could watch a movie while they ate.
As Eddie began to plate his own pizza, Buck reached into his back pocket, pulling out his wallet, offering out a wad of bills. Eddie was quick to shake him off. “You’re not a guest here Buck, besides, I invited you.”
That shy smile was splayed across Buck’s face once more as he thanked Eddie, placing the bill back into his wallet before digging into the pizza for himself. Eddie grabbed them out a couple of beers, sliding one over to Buck. They stood in the kitchen, eating over the counter, a comfortable silence falling around them.
“So, what made you change your mind?”
Buck shrugged, using his bite of pizza as an excuse not to answer Eddie.
“Well, I know Chris and his friends are excited to have you here.”
Eddie was too, he just didn’t quite know how to express that without admitting all of his—feelings.
“Yea, they’re great. Can’t believe he’s having his first sleepover already.”
Eddie chuckled. “Yea I’m just glad it’s here this time.
“Probably for the best. Don’t wanna spam anymore parents with your thirty emails,” Buck said teasingly, snickering over to Eddie.
“Hey, it was only ten, thank you very much.”
Buck nodded his head mockingly, Eddie reaching over to swat at him playfully.
They finished their pizza, heading into the living room after to join the kids who had decided they were ready for some games. While Eddie helped the kids get all their plates and cups cleaned up, Buck went through the house gathering the board games with ease, the ones he’d played with them on several different occasions.
“Ok, we’ve got Chutes and Ladders, Trouble, Connect Four, Monopoly Jr, and Candy Land.”
The kids all divided into different groups, each of them picking a game before they were traded around on the next round. Eddie had to remind Buck more than once that the games were for the kids, and that he didn’t need to win every time. The pouty face Buck gave made Eddie want to kiss it right off, though he refrained…for the kids’ sake—not because he had unrequited feelings for his best friend.
As the games began to wrap up, the night dwindling down, Eddie looked to the kids as he clapped his hands together.
“Alright, who’s ready for dessert?”
The kids all cheered gleefully, Buck standing to follow Eddie into the kitchen. Buck rubbed his hands together excitedly, those blues lighting up the room. “So, what’re we having for dessert Eds?”
Right, Eddie forgot that Buck gave him seven kids to look after that night instead of six; the guy was such a big kid at heart.
“I got a big tub of strawberry ice-cream the other day since it’s Chris favorite, so we can divvy that up for the kids.” Buck nodded as he got busy scooping the ice-cream into bowls, Eddie watching as a slight frown covered his face. Eddie moved back to the freezer, pulling out a separate carton that he held out to Buck with a wag of his brows.
“I picked this up the other day too, since I know how much you hate strawberry.”
Buck’s entire face lit up as he took the container of cookies and cream from Eddie, their fingers lingering together for just a moment too long.
“You’re the best Eds!”
Eddie shrugged his shoulders like it was no big deal, turning back to face Buck when he could sense him staring.
“You uh, you knew I’d come?”
“I hoped.”
Whatever Buck had been going to say in turn was cut short when the kids called out to them, Buck busying himself with scooping out the ice-cream once more. Eddie dug through the silverware drawer, collecting the spoons, the two of them walking everything out to the living room after. The kids were delighted, all of them crowding around, bowls and spoons clasped tightly in their little hands.
Chris scooped a spoonful of ice-cream into his mouth before looking over to Buck, mumbling around it.
“Can you tell us a story Buck, please?”
All the kid’s attention turned to Buck, Buck looking over to Eddie sheepishly.
“Something kid-friendly, huh?”
Eddie remembered the ‘cautionary tale’ Buck had told Christopher not long ago, Chris refusing to sleep alone for the week after.
“Uh, well I have this pretty cool one from today. Your dad even helped.”
Christopher’s face lit up along with the rest of his friends, Eddie settling in as well.
“So, there was this apartment fire,” Buck said, raising his arms up high to demonstrate the tall building, the kids gazing toward the ceiling as his arms reached higher. “There was a deaf woman who was near the top of the building, trapped in her apartment.”
“What does deaf mean?” one of the kids asked.
Eddie chimed in for Buck, the two always falling into sync, even during story time.
“It means that she can’t hear, so she had to text 9-1-1 where she was so that we could help find and rescue her.”
Buck nodded in agreement, continuing on with the story.
“And since her building was completely on fire, and the ladder wouldn’t quite reach up to her window, we had to climb to the top of the other building so that we could jump over to it.”
The kid’s face’s all made an ‘o’ shape as their eyes widened, their little bodies sitting forward to hear the rest of the story.
Eddie remembered all too well Buck wanting to do the rope rescue, Bobby sending him up along. He would follow Buck anywhere, no matter what; they had each other’s backs. Eddie had simply shaken his head, following the dumbass that was the absolute love of his life; what other choice did he have?
“Yea, so when we got close enough, your dad helped harness me in,” Buck paused, turning to Eddie, their eyes meeting in an instant. Eddie could feel his fingers ghosting over Buck now, tightening the harness into place, tugging on it to make sure it was secure. Buck had looked down to him with darkened blues, Eddie smiling to him reassuringly. No matter how strong Buck seemed to be, he always liked a little reassurance; Eddie was always happy to be the one to offer it.
Buck ducked his head again, though Eddie didn’t miss the fond smile that crossed his lips.
For the next part, Buck stood, really getting into character as he went through the motions, acting them out for the kids.
“After I was all secure, Eddie helped lower me down so that I was outside the woman’s apartment. I used the wall to push off and my body swung forward so that I could crash right into the window to break it open!”
“Wow! You’re so brave Buck!”
Buck smiled to Christopher before telling them how he fastened the woman to him, the two of them safely heading back out together. It was about that time Eddie began to tune the story out, not quite ready to relive it yet. It had been a badass save, and thankfully they hadn’t lost anyone, though Eddie couldn’t help but to remember how he’d had to leave Buck to take over the line, watching as the rope had burned in half, Buck sailing down to the ground below. He shivered at the memory.
Buck went back to tell them about how they’d rescued the cat first, Chris and his friends yawning by the time he’d reached the end.
“Alright kids, I think it’s time for bed.”
None of the kids argued with Eddie, moving to gather their sleeping bags and pillows, tossing them out haphazardly under the fort. Buck and Eddie helped the kids get situated, both of them bending to ruffle Chris’ curls, pressing a kiss to his forehead before stepping out, turning the light off as they went.
Eddie moved back to the kitchen with Buck following right behind him, the two of them working quietly to clean up the kitchen as best they could without disturbing the kids.
“You know, you could make pancakes in the morning for the kids if you want. I’m sure they’d love it.”
Buck fidgeted with the drying towel, not meeting Eddie’s eyes.
“Uh, there’s nowhere-nowhere for me to sleep?”
Eddie knew he was referring to the couch, his usual spot when he slept over.
“Well, you brought your sleeping bag, right? You can sleep in my room.”
Eddie wanted to offer his bed, though that was probably too forward.
“I um—you don’t mind?”
“Nope. I told you, you’re always welcome here.”
Buck’s lips titled up into a soft smile, one Eddie easily reciprocated.
With the kitchen cleaned, Eddie turned off the lights, beckoning Buck to follow.
In his room, Eddie offered Buck the bathroom first, moving to clear a space for him on the floor. He chose the side that was closest to where he slept, not letting himself overthink it; there was more room on that side, ok?
When Buck came out, he was wearing a pair of sweats, his button-up sat awkwardly above it.
“I uh—sort of forgot a sleep shirt.”
Eddie waived his hand absently toward his dresser, leaving Buck to pick out a shirt as he headed for the bathroom to go through his own routine.
After dressing in his own set of sweats and a t-shirt, Eddie exited the bathroom, stopping dead in his tracks. Buck was bent over with his backside to Eddie as he rolled his sleeping bag out, Eddie caught up on the shirt he was wearing, Diaz spread across his back like it belonged there.
Buck must’ve sensed him staring, turning to greet him with those bright blues.
“Is this-this, ok?”
Eddie wasn’t sure if Buck was referring to the shirt he’d picked or the spot he’d chosen to lay his sleeping bag out, so Eddie simply nodded, not knowing how to answer.
Once Buck settled on the floor, Eddie turned out the light and crawled under his covers, laying there awkwardly on his back. Buck was the closest he’d ever been, though he still felt miles away.
“I didn’t want to be alone.” Buck’s voice was but a whisper, Eddie almost missing his choked-out words.
“What do you mean?”
He heard Buck’s sleeping bag shift before Buck sighed aloud.
“I just—everyone has someone, but not-not me. There’s no one at home waiting for me.”
Eddie wanted to reach down and pull Buck into his arms, though he clasped his fingers tightly together behind his head to keep from doing so.
“Buck, you’re never alone. I mean, you have all of us.” You have me.
“Yea, but it’s not the same.”
Didn’t Eddie know it.
“I know it’s not-not the same, but you know you’re always welcome here, right?”
“Yea Eds, you’ve told me like three times tonight.”
Had he? Oops.
“Well I mean it.”
There was more rustling down below, Buck never able to stay still for long, especially when his mind was racing.
“What if we—what if the team splits up, or-or we’re not friends anymore?”
“That won’t happen to us.”
“Better not.”
There was silence between them for a beat, though Eddie knew Buck was long from sleep, the sound of the sleeping bag sliding over the floor as Buck moved from side to side.
“C’mere.”
The room came to a dead silence then, no rustling to be heard.
As if to further emphasize, Eddie patted the bed next to him, beckoning Buck to join him. There was another long pause before Eddie heard the distinct sound of the zipper being pulled down, the mattress dipping as Buck’s weight joined him on the bed.
Buck sat awkwardly toward the edge, almost as if he was afraid to move any closer.
Eddie turned to his side to face Buck, lifting the covers as he repeated what he’d said only moments ago.
“C’mere.”
Buck hesitated for a minute more before slowly sliding his body toward Eddie, lowering himself down onto the bed, matching Eddie’s position. Eddie gently let the blankets and his arm fall down over Buck, both of them breathing out shakily.
“I promise I’m never gonna leave you Buck.”
Buck whispered into the space between them, his breath ghosting over Eddie.
“How-how do you know that?”
Eddie reached the arm that was resting over Buck’s side up to the man’s head, lightly pushing through his curls. Buck leaned into the touch, pushing further into Eddies’ space.
“Because you’re my best friend, and the person that I wanna wake up with and end every day with.”
The person that I trust my son with more than anyone, which is why I made you his legal guardian.
Buck’s blues fluttered back open, Eddie refusing to turn away as he let his truth sit between them.
“I love you.”
The admission nearly took Eddie’s breath away, though Buck gave it right back, pressing his lips to Eddie’s in a tender kiss.
“I love you Buck, so much.”
Buck stayed in his space, crowding into Eddie as he pushed impossibly closer. Eddie didn’t mind, wrapping Buck up as he went, sighing out contently when Buck tucked his face into the crook of Eddie’s neck and shoulder.
“You know, I’ve never really been to a sleepover before. I had-had a lot of fun tonight.
A certain sadness washed over them with Buck’s admission, though Eddie only tugged him closer, wrapping him up tightly.
“I promise they’ll be many more to come, even if they’re just between me and you, or the three of us.”
Eddie felt Buck smile into him, the sensation relaxing him wholly. They fell asleep tucked closely together, Eddie never feeling so settled in his life.
When he woke in the morning, Buck was gone, though before Eddie could panic, he heard sounds coming from the kitchen, the smell of pancakes and bacon wafting through the house.
Eddie quickly left the bed, walking down the hallway in search of his best friend.
Buck was in the kitchen, giving the kids turns at pouring the batter, Chris sat up front right next to him. The sight warmed Eddie’s heart.
When their eyes met, Buck gave him a private smile, one that Eddie returned, a promise of something more now held between them.
Once the kids were set up with their pancakes in the living room, the two of them headed back to the kitchen, platting their own stacks before digging in.
Eddie was two bites in before Buck was sliding into his space, turning his head to meet Eddie’s for a syrupy-sweet kiss.
“What was that for?”
Buck simply smiled, swiping his thumb across Eddie’s lips to gather the remnants of pancake.
“Just because I can.”
That was a perfectly acceptable reason as far as Eddie was concerned.
Buck waggled his eyebrows playfully, his arms moving to wrap around Eddie.
“I can’t wait for our next sleepover.”
Eddie couldn’t either, though it probably wouldn’t involve any kid-friendly stories. It’d be more of a ‘cautionary sleepover,’ one he knew Buck would be oh so fond of.
i have another ‘buck went to the sleepover’ fic if you wanna read it here
-tagging squad below, lmk if you wanna be added or removed <3-

Something I appreciate SO MUCH about OG 911 is that beauty for the women is just… not a Big Thing™️.
Like yes, the cast is all INSANELY HOT but story-wise: we never get any episodes about looks. Hell, we never even get comments about looks.
Athena never worries that as she ages, she’ll be less attractive to Bobby. May never complains about the dispatch polo being unflattering. Maddie has shown no signs so far of worrying that she’s not sexy enough for Chim anymore after having a baby. (In fact, even when she’s pregnant, the show makes a point of showing how much she and Chim are into each other, and in Parenthood, it’s STRONGLY implied that they are just as into each other as they were before they had Jee-Yun). The stories for the women of this show are always about grief, and hope, and love - not their bodies, or their hair, or their clothes.
And the costume department seconds this message that it’s not about sex appeal or beauty standards without even the slightest bit of hesitation. I can’t think of a single instance where a woman is dressed for the male audience’s gaze - there are no plunging necklines, no tight fitting clothes that would be incredibly impractical, no high heels that could break an ankle, no uniforms unbuttoned a little more than the men’s.
Every single woman on this show dresses comfortably! Athena frequently wears cargo pants. Hen is constantly rocking the matching track suits. May likes graphic t-shirts. The uniforms that Hen and Athena wear in particular, are not sexy! They’re not low cut, the boots they wear are not cute, and they actually carry things in their pockets and on their belts, which is so far removed from any other show I’ve ever watched.
Maddie and Chim’s date scene in Pinned, which is arguably the one moment in the entire show that is about sex appeal, is about their attractiveness to each other, not how attracted the audience could be to them. Maddie is wearing a loose, flowing dress and boots, not some slinky number clinging to her every curve. Her robe the next morning covers her entire body, it doesn’t have a deep plunging v neck, and it’s actually so fluffy it hides any curves Maddie has. Even when she’s technically “undressed”, she is still comfortable and they do it in a way where she is not objectified at all.
The women on this show use their bodies in powerful ways and never ONCE are they concerned about how they look while they do it. Their abilities are never called into question bc of how they look, and they’re never objectified, not even by the sometimes-vile-on-purpose people who they come across at work. No one tells them they’d be prettier if they smiled. Ever.
If the women are sexy, it’s because they are powerful, and confident, or just exuding so much love and happiness that it takes your breath away - not at ALL because of how they dress.
It’s such a refreshing breath of air, and they do it so well, to the point where I hadn’t even realized what a Non-Deal it was until I was watching something else where it WAS a big deal.

In honor of me reaching What’s Next on my 911 Rewatch, here’s a bit I wrote like a year ago for the Fic I Don’t Know if I’ll Ever finish writing but I keep teasing on here:
*
she knew that it wasn’t her place to hear the plan on how to rescue her fiance, she didn’t know how to help but she had to know what they were going to do, she had to know he’d be okay
“Buck, no” Captain Nash’s voice was rough, not open ‘ to discussion and Abby just wanted to scream let him try, let him save Sam
“Bobby, I can pull it off”
“It’s too risky”
“I know but...”
“No” the new voice came from a firefighter she didn’t know, the one that she’d been talking to earlier, his voice was even ‘ more angry than Captain Nash’s
“Eds...”
“No buck, I know she’s your first great love, okay? But you’re not risking your life, not for her” Abby frowned, who did he think he is? If buck could save Sam then they should let him
“Eddie that’s not...”
“Buck please” Abby couldn’t ‘ see much from where she was standing but she saw the way the firefighter reached out to Buck, trying to close the distance between them “we’ll figure out a less risky way to save him, just please don’t do this”
“Eddie I have to”
He huffed and stepped away ‘ from Buck
“What about me then? I’m supposed to be your great love now, or maybe let’s not think about me for a second, we have two kids at home that expect both of us to come home safe to them, this goes south, what am I gonna tell them?” Buck sighed “Yeah, it’s not the same now isn’t it?” the firefighter stepped away from Captain Nash and buck.
When Abby left she didn’t think much about Buck, yes it sounds awful, yes it was shitty to break up with him by just leaving him behind but at the time’ Abby couldn’t handle more than that so she let time take it’s course and when it finally ran out she was able to breathe
I’m supposed to be your great love now
But it was like a piece of her refused to even think about Buck beyond the boy that ‘ she had left behind at the airport doors, Buck was forever frozen in time on her head, still being the same silly boy full of optimism, full of energy and love, she imagined him still being a daredevil and giving Captain Nash grey hair
We have two kids at home ‘
It was hard to think about that boy and put him as a family man, not that she hadn’t thought he’d be great at it, but she never saw herself having a family with him, and now apparently he had a full house, with a partner and two kids
...
Sam ‘ was fine, well Sam was stable and as they waited for an ambulance to be available Abby was able to go away for a few minutes and search for buck to thank him, for not giving up, for bringing her fiancé back to her, and she found him, arms ‘ wrapped around his partner tightly
“Eddie, I’m sorry”
“Shut up buck” his voice was angry, but he was holding tightly to him, not letting him go “I’m so mad at you, you have no fucking idea”
“Am I sleeping in the couch tonight ?” Abby cringed at the Poor attempt of ‘ humor
“Are you...? You’ll be lucky if I ever let you out of my sight Buckley”
“Eddie cmon”
“No, last month, remember when I went down in the well?” Buck nodded “how did it feel, buck? Cause i remember a lot of crying from both of us”
“Thats the job ‘ and you know it” Eddie laughed
“That was the job, you had a choice today and you still went with the riskier choice, I ... I know you’re good at your job ok? You’re such a great firefighter that I don’t have to worry much, but you have to admit you ‘ weren’t thinking clearly today and that does scare me, buck”
“I’m sorry”
“I know, but I’m still mad, and probably going to be for a bit, so just let me be mad and don’t let go okay?”
“Okay” he adjusted his arms around him “but Bobby only gave us ‘ 10 minutes and they’re almost up” Eddie laughed
“i want a divorce” Buck laughed too
“We’ve been engaged all of two weeks and you’re already asking for divorce, unbelievable”
Abby decided that maybe she could wait to talk to Buck
*
I’ve been thinking lately of going back to it, so maybe I’ll come some time next year ✌🏼
