PLS TALK ABOUT DUNMESHI GHOST TRICK AU!!!
YAAAY WELL!! IF YOU INSIST!!
so briefly to discuss the main roles. chilchuck is yomiel, izutsumi is sissel, laois is lynne, falin is the equivalent of kamilla and marcille takes on the role of missile ! (thus, marcille is also ray, && i’ll elaborate on this later)
the plot is similar to ghost trick!! (…kinda) (not really)
brief plot overview!! it happens in a similar enough universe to ghost trick, but the races from dungeon meshi pass over . i don’t think there will be a dungeon but don’t quote me on that one
but Anyway um. yeah chilchuck got divorced by his wife and it was BAD his wife took the house took the kids he was SO fucked. he dropped out of his job (which was…ummm. engineering maybe, if not rogue ?) and entered a spiral of depression > drink to feel better > hangover > depression. he was quickly gaining an addiction . LUCKILY FOR HIM he had a bit more sense than his dunmeshi counterpart — enough to recognise that his reliance on alcohol was a Bad Thing — so, in order to Recover (or at least replace it with something) he adopted a cat ‼️ he named her izutsumi and they became best friends, especially since it was likely chilchuck wasn’t going to live much longer after she died (half foot lifespans)
a few months into this he was falsely accused of armed robbery . he already had a pretty bad reputation around the area for being somewhat of a lousy guy, so he was taken into questioning and then. yeah whatever happened with yomiel 👍 temsik meteor, holding lynne (or in this case laios) hostage, etc etc
you know how this goes . chilchuck got revenge on the officers who cornered him && now senshi is in prsion . yeag . he (senshi) had two wards under his care, who were laios and falin. they all also shared an apartment with falins VERY close friend marcille who was very intelligent but not wise at all !
the first loop happens, and marcille got stuck there but sticks with it in the hopes of saving falin (…why? what happened to falin. can anyone hear me the number of plot holes in my own au are astounding). she eventually took the form of a log with a small sprout at the end of it (a reference to her staff) . she calls herself ‘bud’ !
you know the rest. izutsumi wakes up, sees chilchucks body & assumes it is hers and continues on without knowing how to read. etc etc .
“what about the characters you haven’t mentioned?” i’m working on it 😭!! i’m thinking senshi is jowd, Maybe (if not obvious by the story overview). kiki is inspector cabanela, maybe, and namari and kaka are her Right Hand Detectives(TM) with varying amounts of respect for her (playful sibling rivalry vs. kikimari perhaps?), but that does leave the issue of ‘why does senshi know kiki???? hwhuh’. shirou is the justice minister, maybe??? inutade is also here in the form of a dobermann i think. somewhere . inutade izutsumi best friends every universe

also im curious 👀 what are ur college au hcs?
Omg it’s kinda humongous. I have an entire AU inside my head and some of it is in the tag #college au musings on here but a lot of it is still in my brain lol; it’s basically just my ramblings of who’d do what with no plot whatsoever haha
But for the majors, the ones I’m most sure about are hetalia Asians, nordics, and a couple others. I put England in lit because I’m making him a snobby, well-read ass, but fear not because he had a punk phase in high school and hasn’t completely grown out of it (he insists he has though). South Korea’s in broadcasting, Taiwan is probably in fashion design, Hong Kong is studying music, it’s kinda all over the place lol. Macau is the only one studying business out of all of them and that’s why he’s China’s favorite sibling lmao (and Wang Yao himself is already out of college and runs a restaurant called Upside down Luck). There are also some unconventional trios I have planned (in my AU Belarus, Vietnam, and Romano are all friends because they drink black coffee together in the morning, roast people, and are taking law/are on the law track, and Seychelles, Canada, and Iceland are nature nerds, probably along with Australia and NZ, the magic trio are all studying the humanities (I think) and play dnd in the library together, etc) and basically I tried to keep it relatively close to the canon relationships, give or take a few. But also there probably won’t be any ships at all because either they’re siblings, something close to siblings, or friends (also because sometimes I get tired of seeing ship-oriented AUs).
There’s way more I could say here but basically, all the ancients (and a few others because hetalia ages are wack) are out of school and are either being a good supportive sibling for their younger siblings or being an absolute devil and pressuring them unnecessarily, and the ones still in college are going through shenanigans. A lot of them have side projects/part time jobs and met that way, some of them met by chance/through mutual friends, a lot of them are childhood friends/in the same neighborhood (mostly applicable to geographical neighbors or countries in the same “““family group”””) etc. I have a small snippet of the AU I want to write where Japan tries to help Greece sneak his cat into school (they met in high school or middle school at a Russian math session). They get caught, but the teacher catching them is *probably* Germania, and when he finds out it’s a cat he lets them go because he’s a little bit of a softie for them. So yeah. The AU is basically just hetalia nations + college = what shenanigans might they get up to?
I have a chart of all the relationships and majors here (some characters have changed but they’re mostly the same) but be warned, it’s super convoluted lol. Suggestions for the ones marked with a question mark are open also!!

oh my god memento mori is SO GOOD it had me crying but in a good way 😭 idk if you already planned on continuing it but if you haven’t, I’d like to request that you do 🧡 apparently I haven’t had my fill of crying yet
Your tears will nourish me and make me stronger >=) but yes!! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😳 I don’t know how exactly I could write a sequel to memento mori, which functions as a sort of overview of the base plot and a character analysis. You can see threads of development for both reader and the other characters in the fic haha, and though I am planning on writing some short drabbles on important deaths, I hope you don’t mind if I use your ask to ramble and elaborate some more on the au, character by character, all under the cut for length 💀💀
warning for discussions of unhealthy mindsets and of death!!
1. I personally think the best reader has their own personality. Reader, or “you,” functions better when they actively affect the plot and are changed by the events they experience, instead of being a passive viewer where things just happen to them. Character building aside, reader is functionally a completely ordinary person. They have average grades, they’re generally pretty nice, and nothing about them really stands out. They’re just Some Dude thrown into a strange world where they’re struggling to survive. Magic? Weapons?? Gods??? They’re faced with horrible trauma everyday, which really wears them down. Really, imagine if no one remembered the time loops except for them, or if instead of time loops, they jumped from timeline to timeline every time they died, and in the timelines they left behind, their friends are grieving them... that would break them, and it was so sad I couldn’t bring myself to implement it 😭😭 But yeah. There are two major character points for reader: the first one is when they’re too afraid to leave Diluc’s house, like a bird trapped in a birdcage, discouraged from countless terrible deaths. That’s when Venti helps them come to the realization they have to face their horrible reality. They can try to run, but they’ll never really get to escape, and turning away from the truth ultimately hurts them. In this case, Venti is the wind of freedom to reader, who is a bird... symbolism! The second main character development for reader is when they’re viciously betrayed by Childe and get their vision. Up until this point, even when things were hard for them, they had friends they could lean on. But Childe betraying them was the straw to break the camel’s back and the moment they realized they were alone. That’s why they got their vision: they lost their trust in the world. I think reader is more cynical after this moment, but that doesn’t mean they lose their kindness. I think it would be so poignant of reader to still want to trust others and believe in goodness, even if they’re a lot more jaded now, because as cheesy as it is, I do believe in the power of friendship and love, haha. If Inazuma was out, I could probably tie reader’s development to the events in the third chapter... I hope reader is a dynamic enough character in their own right, regardless.
2. Venti!! Oh, poor Venti,,, he’s just doing his best, huh? He really is projecting his own regrets on you. Don’t get me wrong, Venti does love you for who you are, but you also remind him of his long dead friend, and he sees you as another chance to save him. If you survive, if you escape your fate, then it’s like he’s finally done right by his friend! All the boys are using you for character development, but it’s okay, because you’re also using them for development! There’s not much I have planned for Venti, aha. He’s just your loyal companion, the first friend you made, and the fact that he’s the closest person to you is something he loves to brag about to the other guys. He has his issues :tm:, but his issues aren’t... directly tied to you? Unlike Kaeya and Childe, people who you do affect drastically, Venti was suffering long before you arrived (well, so was Kaeya, but you’re really the culmination of all his issues. More on that in his section). It would be sweet if you and Venti could support each other through your separate tragedies and pain, to help each other feel a little braver, a little stronger. Sadly, Venti is the most well adjusted of your men, which isn’t saying much, considering he’s still Like That....
3. Kaeya is a horribly complicated character in canon, and the events of this au just exacerbate his existing problems. Kaeya is self destructive: he doesn’t believe he’s worthy of love, and really leans into a “bad guy” persona to push away the people who do love him, and to reinforce his own idea that he doesn’t deserve love. Kaeya also has no problems using people for his own designs, and he’s pretty pragmatic and logical. But that doesn’t mean he’s completely cold; he’s aware of how horrible his actions are, which, once again, feeds into his own self hate. You’re the culmination of all of Kaeya’s issues. Your presence forces him into increased awareness of his own actions, makes him examine his mask and come face to face with the fact he’s become someone he detests. With you, he’s caught between duty and love, which is something he’s very used to, and the fact he has no idea what to choose tears him apart. When he falls in love with you, he really starts to lean into how unforgivable he is. Kaeya has always been caught between two worlds, two fathers, two purposes. Wouldn’t it be nice if he didn’t have to choose between Khaenri’ah or Mondstadt, and he could choose you, instead? Not that the poor man would ever let himself do so.
4. I only managed to hint at this in the AU, but Albedo really hates Dainsleif. He may not remember why, but whenever he sees Dainsleif he just gets really angry, which makes Albedo go ??? That hatred is just the lingering emotion from all the times Dainsleif has tried/succeeded to kill you in previous timeloops, and Albedo was witness to it. Poor Albedo... even though he’s socially awkward, he really is an incredibly lonely person. It’s not that he hates other people or doesn’t know how to interact with them, he just treats relationships the same way he treats his scientific experiments. If he doesn’t see the purpose of pursuing a certain line of inquiry, why should he? It’s a waste of time if a relationship doesn’t work out, and they’re so exhausting to maintain, too. Maybe that’s why he latches onto you so much: you’re an outsider, just like him, someone he finds horribly fascinating! I think his attachment is a little dangerous in the sense that he would do anything to keep you safe, because he couldn’t stand losing you. I’m only placing Albedo under Venti in the “most well-adjusted men” category because Venti is, at least, aware of his own issues, and I think Albedo prefers not to think about them because he doesn’t see the point. He has the potential to become much more unhinged if you’re threatened, though, something Venti wouldn’t do.
4. Diluc is your lighthouse in the storm. He has a particularly interesting role within the story because he’s the only member of your harem that doesn’t know about the timeloops. If he does find out eventually, it might bother him he was the last to know, haha. There are some parallels between Diluc and reader, so he sees himself in you (feeling alone and bearing a heavy burden few other people could understand, pushing people away after something traumatic, the desire to run away). It’s a little unnerving to see someone else make your mistakes, because then it forces you to reflect on your own actions. I don’t think Diluc changes instantly, but meeting you and seeing the way you change and grow does give him some food for thought about his own actions, hopefully. I just think reader and Diluc have a sweet relationship, that’s not burdened about the truth of your abilities. Of course, that also causes a sense of distance between you, because you’re always hiding something from him. If it bothers him, well, he’s not one to talk, considering he has his fair share of secrets, too. But I do think Diluc is the one who’s most ready to just be your house husband and is just, overall, very doting, even if he covers it up by acting gruff.
5. Childe is one of my favorite characters, a fact that’s probably not immediately obvious considering how he’s stuck with a one sided pining for reader, aha. It’s all out of love, though! Childe’s story is the saddest because his feelings will never be reciprocated. How can you ever forgive someone for killing you so many times, even if it was on orders? You simply can’t, and he knows this. He knows he’ll never be forgiven, so he loves you in painful silence. How did he begin to remember the timeloops, you ask, considering he’s not an immortal being and he doesn’t have the same “strange connection with Khaenri’ah” that Albedo and Kaeya do? Well, the more Childe interacts with you and the more he kills you, the closer he gets to the distortion that causes time to reset. Basically, your anomaly status rubs off on him, and his memories from previous timeloop resurface as nightmares! Very cool. Needless to say, everyone in your harem despises him immensely, some more than others. Xiao tried to kill Childe on sight before you held him back. He’s barely in the harem, honestly; he’s hanging on by a thread. I just love the inherent tragedy in his story...
6. In all honesty, Zhongli shares a similar struggle with Venti! He’s projecting his regrets with Guizhong onto you, the same thing Venti is doing with his friend. But unlike Venti, who’s more of a free spirit, Zhongli has been around a lot longer, and the way he views situations isn’t very... human. He doesn’t look at things through the lens of “right” or “wrong,” which he knows are very fallible concepts. He’s always acting for the good of Liyue, and the good of the people as a whole, even if that means making decisions others would consider morally unacceptable. Zhongli is simply logical to an extreme, and he’s always thinking about long term effects and the bigger picture, even if that means people get hurt in the present moment. Anyways, I think it’s very sexy of reader to make him be a little selfish for once. He wants you! He simply wants you, and I think he doesn’t know how to handle that feeling. Zhongli doesn’t think of you as Guizhong, just like Venti doesn’t see you as his friend. He simply... wants to save the people he loves, and not live with the regret of failing to do so anymore. He’s saving her through you, in a weird way.
7. It’s honestly really funny that all of your love interests, excluding Venti, are all ready to throw hands and are extremely suspicious of you when you first meet, but Xiao simply falls in love with you. It’s really sweet, until Xiao starts tying the idea of protecting you with his own sense of self worth. It’s a horribly unhealthy and destructive mindset. I want to see him grow out of it...! But it’s hard for him not to see you as a chance for redemption. If he keeps you safe, then he proves his own worth as a weapon, because that’s all Xiao sees himself as. Additionally, you’re the one good thing in his life, and he will fight tooth and nail to keep you safe. Do you know how much his heart breaks when the timeloop resets and he knows you’ve died, and he’s failed you? Xiao has the worst mindset out of all of them, because he hates himself so much. He really needs a hug and to realize that he’s worthy of love. He’s self destructive, just like Kaeya, because he doesn’t care what happens to himself as long as you’re safe. He’s probably someone who’s going to have the most development throughout the au.
