#but yeah. I'm aware that he's at least vaguely aware that the fic exists

holy fucking HELL I'm so glad you're writing something that addresses the knockout and rex thing. that was so Fucked up and he never got help for it I can't wait for a fic where he does omfg. it really did mess him up and set the base of his character and people either don't address it or address it very badly.
like i got into writing (65th fic currently time FLIES) because of a. this character and b. you and to see you writing something I've been wanting to for so long is. yes.
Oh, that's really nice to hear, I hope you're having a good time with writing! Well, sixty-five fics in you'd better be, or fandom is letting you DOWN, hah.
And ahhhhh, yeah, depending on the fic I do swing between "Kon def got abused and taken advantage of and everyone in canon acted like it was fine despite repeated evidence to the contrary, oh my god it was NOT FINE and still isn't!!" versus taking canon at face value on things like Clark "Responsible For Everyone In The World But This Specific Teenager" Kent not immediately PERSONALLY taking in the whole-ass MINOR someone made in HIS LITERAL IMAGE when he is also an adopted person with superpowers who is intimately aware of the effects of nuture on a person, but I do always find it really interesting to take on more, like, real-world approaches. Okay, sure, in COMICS it's fine if you let a month-old teenager become a teen heartthrob superhero with no secret identity or civilian life, okay, but also oh my god Tana Moon is TWENTY-THREE, Roxy is ALSO a teenager who knows like nothing, and Knockout is KNOCKOUT, and Dubbilex has barely been out of the lab himself and Rex Leech is explicitly an easily blackmail-able sleazeball with serious debts to seriously bad people and THIS KID IS FIVE MINUTES OUT OF THE CLONING TUBE JFC CLARK WHAT ARE YOU CANONICALLY THINKING HERE.
I could scream about Kon's entire existence 5ever but when GREEN ARROW is better at taking responsibility for his sidekicks, you are in a BAD place, ethically-speaking. AT LEAST GREEN ARROW FEELS EMOTIONAL CONNECTIONS BEYOND THE VAGUE AFFECTION YOU'D OFFER A STRANGER'S MODERATELY CUTE PUPPY TO HIS SIDEKICKS. AT LEAST GREEN ARROW DOES THAT.
Admittedly Clark just kinda sucks at taking responsibility for his fellow S-wearers in general, in my experience of him? Except when they need punched/lectured out of the heavily-foreshadowed emotional crisises that he could've just, like, NOT neglected them into with literally just a weekly phone call's worth of relationship maintenance, of course. Except for then.
. . . I may be biased here but seriously, Clark, please talk to Kon/Kara/Karen/literally anyone not Lois or your parents for more than five minutes a crossover event. The non-human people need you too, you FUCKING MORON!! Superpowers don't mean they don't ever NEED YOU!!!!
/screams into pillow about Clark Kent's personal self-image and feelings about his powers and how that all affects the way he treats other Supers and his opinions on them and just AHHHHHHHHHH--

What made you really like interested in the Terror?
the terror is a show that i remember being vaguely aware of existing when it came out, but i had no real idea of how or where to watch it. i knew it starred jared harris, who i'd loved in mad men and chernobyl, so i definitely WANTED to watch it. i had a vague understanding that it had some sort of eldritch horror thing going on, which appealed to me since i was into the magnus archives at the time. but it was just one of those shows that like, i'd occasionally see a gifset for on tumblr or see mentioned on twitter and would go, "oh yeah, i still want to watch that."
anyway, then last like, august 2022?? i was in a weird mood, was watching a bunch of different videos about mysterious histories, and watched a video about the dyatlov pass incident. it happened in russia so i rewatched chernobyl, but it ALSO happened in winter and the combination of the story taking place in winter, the unknown horror elements that people grip onto, and my own rewatch of chernobyl which put jared harris at the forefront of my mind, reminded me of the existence of the terror and i googled where to stream it and lucked out that i happened to look when it was on hulu. i decided to give it a shot, put on the first episode, and then promptly binged the entire season in a single night.
as for why it gripped me so much and why i'm here giffing it daily 1.5 years later? definitely the inherent tragedy of it all. the what-if's that live rent free in my mind. the tuunbaq aspect of it is probably the least interesting to me—i like the added horror elements, but really i'm more preoccupied/interested in the human horror.
i tried reading the book but gave up about halfway through—around the point when fitzjames died? but really i think i gave up on it when i decided that i preferred the show's version of carnivale—the inherent horror of stanley setting himself and the tent on fire as this act of murder/suicide, this demented attempt at saving them all from a fate much worse, the guilt that fitzjames feels for it all...so much more interesting to me than the book's version of tuunbaq showing up to fuck shit up.
fitzier is definitely appealing to me and i've read a good number of amazing fics about them. the fandom itself is wonderful, and i LOVE reading the tags on all the gifsets i post and the ones i reblog from others. i'm not sure if i would have gone out of my way to gif the terror myself if a RL friend hadn't found out i was recently obsessed with it and offered to send me his copies, but i'm v glad he did. it's been fun v slowly re-watching the show while giffing almost every single frame of the season. i also just really appreciate that this is a finite story told in a single season.

Dabi holding all your Gojo feels vs Hawks, who is vaguely Gojo like in canon (they also have the same voice actor) + the clusterfuck that is DabiHawks together in canon is some comedy 😂 I desperately need to know what you think of the Hero Public Safety Commission, we call them the HPSC for short and they don't show up too often in canon, it kinda goes over most anime-watcher's heads that They Exist, they're so background. Which is sooooo funny, because they're a bit like the JJK Higher-Ups.
under cut again
(Continue 2) Forgive my errors, it's been a hot minute since I read JJK. But the kids (or at least Yuuji and Nobara up to the last arc I read) are all innocently unaware of the Higher-Ups, while Gojo and the Teachers are Intimately Aware, with Gojo having the most dealings with them right? Yeah, that's BNHA. The HPSC is run by old folks, they're a bit of a shadow organization, even seen in the shadows in the spin-off. The difference begins in that there's parts to them, like the police force.
(Continue 3) License Exams, paperwork and organizing, PR events. So while some of their employees may be seen in the light, the higher ranking members and gross old Presidents are much darker. For the last idk, 150 years? it's been a long time, that they've been in power, they've been having a fun time executing people. I know, wild right? Even got the students involved in stuff they shouldn't be in without telling anyone the real reason behind it! Though the teachers suspected.
(Continue 4) Allowed for, demanded even, civilian casualties and ignoring crimes, luckily Hawks went "fuck that." He's their most valuable asset. Everyone would be fucked without him, he's too OP and does a lot of work. If the fics are writing game nights and death threats, they aren't showing how stressful and wild his infiltration really was if you think about the implications. Not someone the HPSC wants turning on them and getting killed by. (They know it's possible, it's happened before.)
(Continue 5) Gojo 🤝 Hawks (people or fans thinking you're an arrogant, always happy loser, reality is you have morals and can be serious.) They both also like sweets! If you ever get into the show, I recommend reading the manga from chapter 184, that's the last two episodes of season 4. You can watch alongside the anime too of course for the battle animation and voice acting! It's just that's the "turning point" of the series, Hawks' debut and where the villains start to become more prominent.
(Continue 6) And unfortunately, where the anime decides to cut corners/panels/lines. Anime Aizawa is always flawless, but Dabi and Hawks are a pain in the ass, only official translation can capture the nuance. Since manga is still images, u can rly pause to think. They're two clever bastards hiding behind snark, personality masks, and careful words. Dabi got his reveal, but the true insanity of Hawks' life is still publicly hidden + spread across spin-offs, so I'd love to share if ur ok with it!
okay so re Dabi holding all of my Gojo feels it's kind of..... there is a Middle Man as to why Dabi got that in my head not Hawks and that Middle Man is me; specifically, my tragic backstory is exactly My Father Decided To Raise Me Super Harshly To Be Just Like Him Follow In His Footsteps And Surpass Him and, like, while he was even less interested in my younger siblings than me defs got discarded in early teenage years, so, like, Dabi would get all the me feels except my reaction to that was 'WELL I AM GOING TO BE THE BEST AND STRONGEST FOR ME AND ALSO I GUESS BC BECOMING A MATH PROFESSOR IS ABOUT TEACHING, TEACH ALL THE CHILDREN' so like.... hopping over from 'Gojo is the best' to BNHA and Dabi was the 'oh heyyyyy character with the other half of my tragic backstory instead of the 'I'm not prideful enough to say I'm The Best In The World At Math but I'm pretty damn good and I'm a teacher and good at martial arts and slightly fucked up in the head bc I was told all throughout my childhood that I was really talented' half of the backstory'
okay that's WILD re the HPSC, I think it's bc I've only read fics where everyone knows Hawks's backstory but I was convinced that the HPSC was almost a known big bad of the setting given that, like, 'all but bought as a child raised in hell to be crafted into the perfect hero' I'm p sure is in fact Hawks's backstory?
that's REALLY funny about Hawks being OP; his abilities are really versatile and up there but honestly seemed kind of standard in-setting and I was mildly assuming weren't that out there, but that's great and I love it, I live for OP characters
ALSO I AM SCREAMING OVER THE SAME VOICE ACTOR TIDBIT I DON'T KEEP TRACK OF THOSE THINGS THIS IS HITTING ME LIKE 'MARK HAMILL WAS OZAI'
and yup yup yup please Keep Telling Me Fun Things I'm having so much fun learning about BNHA

Uhhhhhh Red I think you should know that Scott just reblogged that fanart floweroflaurelin did for Everything Turns to Gold so he probably knows your fanfic exists
-🪓
....yeeeeeah. I'm. aware, lol. Between floweroflaurelin's art and the fact that vyeoh reblogged a link to the fic at one point, my only hope is that the 100k+ wordcount and the fact that it's not a fh fic keeps him disinterested. XD
But good! That art is lovely and deserves to be appreciated by the guy playing the character! Even if he doesn't necessarily need to know the context, lololol.
Edit: okay I take it back I have one fear, and that's that he discovered The Widow's Revenge. O.O
