Fo3 Companions Living in Megaton With Lone
➼ Word Count » 0.6k ➼ Warnings » None ➼ Genre » Platonic/Romantic
Charon doesn't really have much of an opinion on the matter. If this is where you want to live, then this is where he'll follow you. Moira is always stopping by to ask if he could grab her something in a place that's just a bit too irradiated for her to do it herself, so he eventually refuses to answer the door for you. He'll gladly do anything else though, and he's not picky about the decor.
Clover doesn't mind, wherever you go, she'll go. She likes arranging things around the house and putting flowers in vases and whatnot. She does her best to keep the place as clean as possible and, although she covered him in graffiti, gets along decently well with Wadsworth. Moriarity will definitely try to manipulate her into some sort of contract so that he can have another "worker" alongside Nova, but other than having to keep an eye on her, she's easy to get along with.
Living in Megaton reminds Star Paladin Cross about when she escorted James here 19 years ago. It makes her feel slightly nostalgic being here again after all that time and seeing all the different changes that have been made. She doesn't mind how you decorate it and is happy with whatever as long as she's allowed to have a weapons workbench in one of the corners. She and Jericho might get into a few altercations from time to time, and she's always telling you about her gripes with Nathaniel, but she has enough manners and self-control to refrain from street fights. (more so for you're sake than hers).
Jericho is the trashiest roommate on this list, he doesn't even bother throwing things away. He'll just pile garbage into a corner until you decide you'll throw it out. The good news is, none of your neighbors are going to be trying anything with you since you're living with the town's local raider. Jericho also frequently gets into arguments with Wadsworth and eventually just locks him in a cage upstairs, so you can forget about having a butler helping you pick up all the junk he leaves around the place.
Butch will beg on bended knees for you to pay for the wasteland explorer theme for the house. Nothing would make him happier than having Moira wheel a motorcycle into the house. Overall, he's a decent roommate. He'll leave a mess in the living room and leaves his clothes everywhere, but other than the average frat boy shenanigans (expect there to be beer bottles everywhere), he's not so bad.
Besides him accidentally breaking things, Fawkes is probably the best to live with. He keeps the place relatively clean, keeps people out, and is just an overall joy to be around. He's sweet to all of your neighbors, even if they're open about not wanting him around. In all honesty, he's just happy to be out of that vault. He'd be happy anywhere and he especially loves having his own little nook for him to read and study. Soon enough you'll have a live-in doctor.
Every day, RL-3 will wake you up early so that you can begin your 5 a.m. workout routine. There is no resting when the possibility of communists lurking is high. He'll keep you and the other residents in line. Megaton will have a competent police force in no time, but the locals are gonna be upset with how demanding and loud he can get. Some (Jericho) might even try scrapping him for parts.
You'll get no complaints with Dogmeat. Everyone loves him and the kids that run around are always playing with him. Moira might try to train him to get her things, but other than that, you'll have no issues living with him.

Butch Deloris reacts to lone touching him in a positive way for the first time. Like he’s so used to fighting and his mom probably wasn’t very touchy and lovey
I very much agree! It’s not a stretch to say lone’s touch could very well be the first positive physical touch he ever has
not me writing my own butch content 💀💀
Butch DeLoria Reacts to Positive Physical Touch
butch deloria didn’t like to be touched
could he deal with it? sure. quick things. but he wasn’t one for long, sappy things, like when doctor james tried to hug him that one time after he patched him up. made butch swerve so hard he ran into the wall
his mother didn’t touch him sweetly — or at all. that was probably for the best, he figured, because drunk impulses usually don’t end in hugs and kisses
he was used to physical contact being pain — probably because that was what it always was. every touch he received usually ended in pain. it was something he didn’t necessarily hate. the pain was something constant, something that he could rely on to always be there, unlike his mother. why else would he fight lone all the time?
touches had never been soothing to butch like they were for so many people. it always made him squirmy, made in expect a sudden blow, look over his shoulder. He avoided as much physical contact as he could
so the day he and lone were just adventuring around the wasteland and they decided to hug him? he squirmed
what in the world we’re they doing? he thought they were on good terms now? he hadn’t done anything, had he? he’d seen lone in action, and deep down, he knew he didn’t stand a chance if they wanted to beat him from the east coast to the west
his first instinct was to fight — that’s what he does when someone grabs him. but lone isn’t fighting him. are they holding him so someone can attack from behind? no? they’re alone?
it takes a few seconds for him to process the fact that lone isn’t actually trying to hurt him and is just hugging him
everyone and their mother (including butch himself) saw him as a player. so obviously he’d be cool as a cucumber when physical touch came onto the scene, right? right?
wrong.
he goes stiffer than a rod of iron, and keeps his arms down at his side because he’s still not actually sure what lone’s trying to get at here?
will probably ask them what they’re doing, and when they respond with “it seems like he needs a hug”?
he suddenly remembers that lone knows every detail of his life, his mom, his nonexistent dad, the neglect and pain and words as sharp as knives that made him how he was in the vault. and he feels incredibly naked in front of them
he won’t move for a solid minute, and when lone asks “why is your heart beating so fast, butch?” he won’t have an answer
their words would bounce around in his skull. he “seemed like he needed a hug” well, butch never thought he needed a hug. not until right then, when he was getting one, and he wasn’t feeling squirmy or uncomfortable anymore, he felt safe, something he hadn’t felt for a solid nineteen years at least
takes him a solid thirty seconds to kick himself into gear and hug them back, albeit a little awkwardly. he wraps his arms around them probably too tightly and his head finds its way onto their shoulder like it was meant to fit there. for the first time, he felt like he was meant to fit somewhere. after years of being the vaults outcast, the kid that spent more time with security than at home with his mother, he thought, what if home wasn’t a place, but a person?
there they were. lone was hugging him, not out of pity, but because they cared about him. they weren’t hurting him, no, the opposite, they were healing him. when was the last time someone had touched him with good intentions? he couldn’t even remember. had anyone ever touched him with good intentions?
lone’s one hand travels up and down his back gently, the other, messing with the hair on the back of his head. he didn’t know how badly he’d needed a real hug until then. how much he’d been craving some kind of physical touch, some kind of something to make him feel better. because no one in the vault ever cared about the bully, the bad kid, no one ever gave him a second glance, never looked hard enough to see that he was just a kid and he was just in pain
he can’t even get out of his own head long enough to realize that his hug has turned into a death grip, and that they’ve been doing this for like, five minutes now. he wonders why lone hasn’t let go yet but he doesn’t actually mind because he isn’t really ready to let go yet either
(turns out they’re just holding onto him until he’s ready to let go)
his head is swimming with all kinds of things, but the main thing is that lone actually cares about him enough to know him, to touch him, gave him another chance and let him unleash all his trauma on them because they care. they actually care
takes him to few seconds to realize lone pulled him closer, and it’s because he was breathing kinda heavy. why was he doing that? and his eyes were watering up. why were they doing that? was he crying? why was he doing that?!
for the first time ever, butch deloria was able to cry in someone’s arms instead of into his pillow or hidden in the bathroom. for the first time ever, butch deloria felt safe. like he belonged there. with lone

For those of you who have recently started playing Fallout 3 after watching the tv show and want to use Butch as a companion...
I know his signature weapon is his switchblade but his tagged skill is actually unnarmed. Not melee. Get that boy a deathclaw gauntlet. Or a powerfist. There's one called Fisto! that is really good.
And put him in power armor. Tesla or Hellfire if you can get it.
His other tagged skill is small guns. So, Butch is unique amongst companions in that his default pistol technically requires ammo for him to use it (he won't use the ammo and only actually needs one bullet in his inventory). You can easily manipulate him into using whatever gun you want by taking away all of his 10mm rounds... Provided you supply him with plenty of ammo for those guns. I used to give him the Blackhawk (complete Agatha's quest) and sometimes a sniper rifle. Completing The Pitt should get you access to an ammo press if you need rarer bullets.
His final tagged skill is Science.
This does nothing.
But you can headcanon that he's really good with computers or something.
Anyway, hope that helps!

WIP of Cal and his usual companions. Mostly just me figuring out how tall I think they are. I plan on doing similar pieces for my courier and sole survivor (pray for my pen y’all that’s gonna be a lot)
