A Special Day - Green Heron by Georgie Alexon
Via Flickr:
I am super exited that I was able to capture this Green Heron in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I was told that the last time one was seen in Calgary was about 15 years ago. I have no idea how he ended up in Calgary. He is probably on his way south for the winter. This Green Heron was in a pond and fishing in some cattails. In this capture he was taking a break to digest his last catch before hunting again. -Butorides virescens

Green Heron and Its Reflection by Lutfi Shedraway
Via Flickr:
Green Herons stand motionless at the water’s edge as they hunt for fish and amphibians. They typically stand on vegetation or solid ground, and they don’t wade as often as larger herons. In flight these compact herons can look ungainly, often partially uncrooking their necks to give a front-heavy appearance.

They have freakishly long necks and they use bait to catch fish. They think they’re a people!
