In full transparency, I’m a bit of a trope snob. I thought I was above high school AUs and that they were too shallow and juvenile. But I love all of your writing and your characterization has always been a hit for me (especially with Hinata who it’s hard for me to find a characterization I jive with often). So I tried Butterfly, hoping if nothing else to get some excellent smut eventually. Imagine my surprise when it quickly shot up to my favorite work of yours. (You’ve seriously got me questioning my general stance on HS aus). Maybe it’s because I’m an angst whore above all else and the angst in Butterfly HITS. In the best of ways I am constantly aching for Hinata and frustrated with Naruto (while also loving him so much for how kind he is towards her sometimes). And I just know it’s going to get better (by which I mean worse 💕)!! Thank you so much for this fic, it has consumed me completely 🙏😌✌️

I gotta say I sort of viewed HS AU the same, immature, not much going on outside the superficial, a fun time maybe some angst but nothing deeper than teen drama even though I enjoyed some of them, so I definitely understand your stance. I am glad you gave Butterfly🦋 a chance, and even more that you really enjoyed it to this extent, that fic is my baby💕This version of Naruto is one of my favorites to write, he's an imperfect, immature, really kind, a bit spoiled, a bit delinquent, mostly responsible almost adult that you can't really hate even when he's being a huge jerk to sweet Hinata. He's not all good, not all bad, just gray depending on moment to moment. He's gotta be number 2 of my top 5 favorite Naruto characterizations I've done🥰
And I'm an angst whore too! I love the heart-in-a-meat-grinder angst for sure!
And yes, things are going to get better (for real better) and better (much worse) 🤭

I had a very special visitor this week, while our red maple tree was blooming. I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen a Monarch in January, but this tree is also swarmed by bees every year. Our little Dec. 2022 cold spell didn't bother them in the least. When you live in the deep South, gardeners should plan for pollinators year round. Although this discovery was another happy accident. We planted this tree in 2009 & discovered its pollinator superpower a few years ago. It can drop a lot of whirly-gig seeds on the lawn but doesn't spew pollen everywhere.
