CIRCE by madeline miller 🐊
Nope! I need to take it off my tbr. I was in a book club with the book and I wasn’t able to read it, but everyone in the club hated it. 8 people only had bad things to say, so I will not read it.
Send me a book!!!

1-1 & 27-90 lets keep it simple
did u know 27 is for all the books i have lying around the house ksjfghlksjdhf this was Not simple
Hamilton: The Revolution by Jeremy McCarter and Lin-Manuel Miranda! I am absolute Hamilton trash. I haven’t read this fully bc my brain works mysterious ways, but I’ve gone through some chapters. I like the BTS look at how Lin came to write this musical, especially the parts when he talks about the songs! One day I’ll get through the whole thing lol
Philippine Myths, Legends, and Folktales by Dr. Maximo D. Ramos! I just got this recently! @relevy asked me once about “duwende” for her WIP, which started me down the rabbit hole of learning more about my own culture. There’s a lot of stories in this I have never heard of, but I’m really excited to read them all. I’m hoping this helps me in my future writing :-) (though i think the book on “aswang” will be more useful as it is more research-heavy)

4 & 30 & 48? ((honestly i could ask all of em i love these things.. but i'm going to show some restraint))
Is there a book that you think needs a bigger fandom?
Just One Day by Gayle Forman.I haven’t read this in a few years, but when I initially read the books I read them within two days and I adored them so much. I always wished there had been a bigger fandom - I don’t know if I’d feel the same about the books now, but yes!
Can you leave a series unfinished or do you have to own all the books and try them all?
Nope - I can’t abandon a series. The evidence of my determination to finish a series is the Pretty Little Liars book series. Gah.
Do you write, highlight, underline etc in your books?
Sometimes. It depends on the book.I generally tend to highlight in graphic design books. But I use tabs for my novels, generally.

End of the Year Reading Tag
I was wondering if something like this was going around! Thank you @ninja-muse for tagging me 💖
did you reach your reading goal for the year (if you had one)?
I hate to say it, but no I didn’t. My original reading goal was 72 and I was basing that number off of how many books I read in 2020 (which was 67). Then I realized that was stupid because I was out of work in 2020 for months so I had all the time in the world to read and now I don’t, so I ended up changing my reading goal to 60...still didn’t make it though. I did get up to 56 so I’m not too disappointed. I also don’t keep track of all the fanfiction and webcomics I read which is a lot so I know I technically did make my goal.
what are your top 3 books you read this year?
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, The Deep by Rivers Solomon, and Master of One by Jaida Jones and Danielle Bennett.
what’s a book that you didn’t expect to enjoy quite so much going in?
A Universe of Wishes anthology edited by Dhonielle Clayton. I decided to read it because someone was looking for a buddy and I knew it was on my list. Didn’t think it would amount to anything special. Then I ended up liking all but three of the fifteen stories. I’m actually hoping most of them get turned into full length novels because I became too attached to some stories and need more.
were there any books that didn’t live up to your expectations?
Sadly, yes. The Kingdoms by Natasha Pulley. I’ve liked all of her books, so this was a bigger disappointment than usual.
did you reread any old faves? If so, which one was your favourite?
I don’t reread books since I don’t have a lot of time to read and would prefer to read books I haven’t read before when I do. That being said I found myself going back to Nine by Zach Hines throughout the year to reread my favorite moments. I’ve been craving a sequel but I don’t think it’s going to happen so I’ll just have to satisfy myself with the one book.
did you dnf any books?
YES! I’ve actually been meaning to make a post about this because it’s the first time I’ve dnf’d a book in my life. I’ve finally gotten to a point where I’m tired of wasting time reading books I’m not enjoying. The book in question is Son of the Storm by Suyi Davies Okungbowa. I got about halfway through the book, but I wasn’t connecting with any characters and I didn’t care about the plot so I finally gave up and let it go. It was such a great feeling.
did you read any books outside your usual preferred genre(s)?
I’ve never been big on literary fiction but The Prophets by Robert Jones Jr. sounded so good so I gave it a shot. It was a pretty good read and I wish more people knew about it.
what was your predominant format this year?
Print always. I don’t have the attention span for audiobooks and my tablet is too big to hold comfortably for ebooks.
what’s the longest book you read this year?
According to Goodreads my longest book was The House of Hades by Rick Riordan because my edition had two additional short stories in it. I didn’t read those though, so I think technically my longest is Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo at 607 pages.
what are your top 3 anticipated 2022 releases?
I actually don’t know a lot of what’s coming out in 2022 so my options are limited, but I will say The Ivory Key by Akshaya Raman, So This Is Ever After by F.T. Lukens, and The City of Dusk by Tara Sim.
what books from your tbr did you not get to this year, but are excited to read in 2022?
Oh, man there are so many. Where do I start? The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir, Any Way the Wind Blows by Rainbow Rowell, Legendborn by Tracy Deonn, and A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske.
Tagging @bvkspine @rensreadingrainbow @ireadiguess @otsoreads if you’re interested (and sorry if you’ve already been tagged)!

11 Question Tag
Rules:
Answer the 11 questions you’ve been asked
Nominate 11 other bloggers
Ask your nominees 11 questions
Let them know you’ve nominated them
Tagged by @abookishhobbit (bless 😘)
Questions for me:
1. Have you ever bought a book just for the front cover?
Yes! I bought Melmoth by Sarah Perry because it had such a gorgeous cover, although I did check the blurb to be sure! Haven’t quite gotten to it on my list yet, but I am excited. (Also, the 25th Anniversary Edition of The Secret History, for which I went to 3 different bookstores, as its cover, while beautiful, is terribly fragile and prone to shelf-ware).
2. What was your favourite childhood book?
Watership Down, and my favourite to this very day. I’m currently rereading it and it’s a dream 😍Also, anything by Garth Nix! That man shaped my childhood.
3. What is a book that you haven’t yet read, but would like to?
Too many to count, as I suspect is the same for most. The one on my mind at the moment is Anne Carson’s Float, because it’s been sitting on my shelf for well over a month, but I haven’t found the proper time to devote to it.
4. A popular book that you didn’t like?
A few come to mind, but probably Divergent, back in the day. I just couldn’t see much point in the “dystopia”.
5. A good book to film adaptation?
I always have a grudging respect for Gone Girl. Nick doesn’t get as much depth as he should for the narrative to make sense, but I think it does a good job of conveying the tone (which is why you should let authors write scripts 🙃)
6. A bad book to film adaptation?
Does anyone ever just remember the trainwreck that was Eragon?
7. Do you keep novels you read and don’t like?
Historically, yes, but this year I gave away my first terrible novel right after reading it (under duress, for a book club).
8. Do you lend your books to other people?
Always!! For those I lend often I have lending copies (eg. An Oresteia, The Iliad, The Secret History, and obviously Watership Down, although I collect different editions for my own enjoyment, rather than for lending, per se). I also often lend out a lot of Garth Nix, and lately Name of the Wind, although I have no spares.
9. How often do you visit the library?
Not terribly often, as my local one doesn’t have a great selection, and I’m no longer at university. I’m also really bad at deadlines (ask me about my $900 late fee some time).
10. Favourite snack to have while reading?
Always chocolate, but probably should be almonds.
11. If you could live the rest of your life as a character in any book you please; which would you choose?
Holden Caulfield, because it would be so satisfying to grow out of his emo-ass moping.
Questions to answer:
1. Who do you always trust to give you book recommendations?
2. What do you look for in a bookstore?
3. What is a book you loved as a child, only to go back to it as an adult and not like?
4. What is a book you thought you were going to hate, but then were surprised by?
5. What book did you identify with most strongly as a teenager?
6. Did you have phases of reading certain types of books growing up? Describe them!
7. Have you ever received a book as a present or recommendation which you didn’t like? Did you tell the person?
8. Have you met any of your favourite authors? If so, who?
9. If you are reading something written originally in a different language, how much do you care about the translation/translator?
10. What is the strangest book you’ve ever read?
11. One book you would give a 12y/o child to read?
