#by far my favorite Jon character ever lol

Note
Cn I ask your top favorite fics that you've written (feel free how much that you want to list)? Why they're special to you? Is there a specific inspiration when you wrote them? Thanks....
Hey anon!!! Thanks for the ask!! Favorite fics...I've written. You've given me too much freedom by asking my why I like them I am so sorry for the wall of text about to hit.
To Veer The Tides
It's a fic for Kuroko no Basuke which is basically just me slapping the character names onto a WILDLY different fantasy setting. It's for Akashi x Furihata. An arranged marriage AU where Akashi is the son of an emperor who went too power hungry and wanted to consolidate 7 mostly independent states(provinces??) into one, but he was defeated by the remaining states and to control Akashi, he is arranged to marry far below his station to Furihata, son of a destroyed noble house which is under the rule of Kagami's state. So it's about Akashi climbing back to power with Furihata initially thinking Akashi is pure evil but he soon realizes that maybe Akashi and his family aren't as evil as the people believe.
I ended up doing so much research, world-building and character expansion. It's more political intrigue than romance, lol. I still love that fic to death, I think I honestly peaked there for world-building, at least. I wrote it immediately after reading and watching Mo Dao Zu Shi and being first introduced to the concept of cultivation as a magic system and really wanted to put all my faves in flowy robes and long hair.
I want to get back to it, but I've discontinued it because I am simply not qualified to right about Dissociative Identity Disorder, systems and alters. Akashi has a terribly stereotypical portrayal of it in canon and I thought maybe I could research enough to write that, but I just, I don't know any systems and I felt like if I can't respect it, I didn't want to do it.
But it's still my favorite in terms of the world and aesthetics I had going on for it.
2. Tell Me Your Story (I'll Tell You Mine)
My current baby. The one I incessantly post about and draw for. Single-handedly over saturating the kyoshi warrior sokka x blue spirit zuko market. It's set in the canon world but I had to do so much research for this one too. I learned a lot, I think, while writing this. Big lesson being never ever write in present tense but if you're 200K+ words into it there is simply no going back RIP.
It started as just a silly romance because I thought it'd be funny to have Sokka and Zuko be completely oblivious to who they like. But as I began plotting and writing, it transformed into me projecting all my issues with colonialism and using the ATLA setting as base to dip a little bit deeper into the themes the show itself brings up, and some issues that it doesn't. Like, how colonialism uses your own culture against you, how it makes you fear who you are, makes you do things you don't want.
I deliberately chose that title because lots of indigenous communities in the world have lost their stories because of colonialism. Oral traditions and tales that are forgotten because people were killed and forced to never repeat them, forced to forget their languages. And that, really got to me. How colonialism slowly strips you of what makes human beings what they are; stories, art, music, dance, etc.
So this fic ended up being about how colonialism steals from you, uses what is yours AGAINST you and how it is important to embrace who you are and fight back.
3. Tell The Neighbours I'm Not Sorry
It's for Jon and Jay from DC Comics and Superfam. I wrote it when I was seeing a lot of biphobia against Jon and racism against Jay. As a bi asian, even if it was towards fictional characters, it was getting to me. People kept talking about how there's a specific way to be bi. Why did Jon never have a crisis about being queer? Why did Jon and Jay move so fast? Is Jay manipulating Jon just to get what he wants? It was all filled with a lot of stereotypes and biases.
Superman comics especially often taken up real world issues and puts it into the story. So I took all my anger and frustration from the biphobia and racism and wrote it into a fic.
It's about how there's no one way to being queer, and about how immigrants and non-white people are immediately classified as some kind of 'other' and 'bad' with zero grounding. It's also a little bit about colonialism on Jay's end. It's so charged with me going "FUCK IT!" and still somehow came out okay as a fic and I think I like that I managed to turn my anger into something productive.
Bonus
4. An Itajun fic I have not published and am still writing
It's my first JJK fic! It's an absolute mess in my drafts right now but I really like it, it's very fun for me. Junpei starts seeing and sensing curses far earlier because of built resentment from his bullies going too far and severely injuring him, his mom finds out and they move to Yuuji's area of Tokyo to get away from the school since they won't do anything about the bullying. Yuuji and Junpei run into each other and meet early at school. So the dynamics are kinda reversed, where Junpei is the one who is into the world of curses first while Yuuji has no clue, but they slowly interact and come together, forming a tight bond.
Junpei trusts no one and is dealing with all this curse nonsense trying to understand what it means. Yuuji is seemingly happy and chipper but he's going through tough times because his grandpa got hospitalized. It's both of them supporting each other and making sure the other isn't alone.

fanfic writer questions
(answered 01/21/24)
How many works do you have on AO3?
My page says 16, but 2 of those got combined into 1 fic, so it's really 14.
What's your total AO3 word count?
1,382,274
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
In order from most to least it's: The Night We Met, A Marriage of Convenience, A Little Help From Your Family, Dragons Across The Sea, & A Song For Dragons
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try my best to because I think it's important to interact with my readers and to explain the writing choices I make. I've gotten really bad at responding lately, but I promise I read every single comment. Getting a really detailed comment saying why/what you liked about a certain chapter always makes my day ❤️
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
None because I only write happy endings for jonerys and also all of my long-term fics are still ongoing!
What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
I mean The Chamber of the Painted Table had a happy ending in that jonerys ends up engaged lol. But like I said above, all my fics will have happy endings for Jon & Dany and all their targlings.
Do you write crossovers? If so, what's the craziest one you've ever written?
I don't write crossovers! Only GoT/HoTD/TWOIAF for me!
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Unfortunately, yes on both Dragons Across The Sea and A Little Help From Your Family. Most of the time it's people bashing a specific character (usually Jon or Dany).
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
When I first started writing fanfic, no. But now ... definitely lol. Is it even one of my fics if we don't have some dominant Jon, the Targaryen breeding kink, and an aunt/nephew kink?
As for the kind, M/F with a focus on dirty talk since I think that's hot. I'm not the biggest fan of reading smut that's just big long blocks of description with no dialogue, so I try to avoid that.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of!
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I don't think so. I'm open to it as long as I'm credited as the author!
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
NO but that should change (hopefully) sometime later this year! Robbaery & Jonerys nation keep an eye out ... 👀
What's your all time favorite ship?
JON SNOW/DAENERYS TARGARYEN and they have no other competition in my mind.
What's a WIP you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
Hmm, that's a good one. I think Dragons Across The Sea simply because of where the story is right now. (jon and dany are still very far away in Essos - Yunkai to be exact - and with everything I have planned for that story, it's going to take a longggggg time to write all of it)
What are your writing strengths?
I personally think dialogue and inner monologue come easily to me, specifically with Jon and Dany. It's also very easy for me to write romantic scenes for my ships, I love writing my babies being in love!
What are you writing weaknesses?
Definitely describing clothing and locations. Also battle scenes make me want to throw my laptop out a window. I have such respect for the authors out there that can really write a good battle sequence without losing the audience's interest. Same with people who can describe clothing so well that I can picture it in my mind.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Well if y'all have read my stuff, you know the only other language I use is Valyrian. I think it's natural for characters like Dany, Rhaenyra, Daemon, Maester Aemon, Aemon the Dragonknight, Naerys, etc to speak it since they grew up learning it. I especially adore taking terms of endearment in English and translating them into Valyrian. Examples include ñuha jorrāelagon (my love) and ñuha prūmia (my heart).
You'll usually see me writing Jon picking up on Valyrian since Dany uses it with him. I just think it's super adorable for jonerys to call each other pet names in both the Common Tongue and Valyrian (the language of their ancestors). And of course, there's times where I write them speaking it in nsfw situations hehe.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Game of Thrones/ASOIAF and it's the only fandom I've written for so far.
What's your favorite fic you've written?
I'll say my favorite fic I've written/currently writing is The Night We Met. The progression of jonerys' relationship in that fic is everything to me, and I got super emotional when I wrote their wedding on Dragonstone. There's so many moments in that fic where I show how devoted they are to each other <3
here's my AO3!

I won’t answer all of them haha. I had no time to write that much plus I wanted to actually give hOt TaKeS.
8 common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
I’ll start of by saying that I’m not one who wants to police other people’s interpretations of the text. BUT I will say this: Jon is not a below average swordsman! He’s not even average. He may not have many on page feats, but he’s only been in less than a handful of serious fights and they were against middle aged men with decades of experience over him. People like to bring up his loss to Mance, but this fight was against a man who managed to unite the wildling tribes under his rule; Mance is a highly skilled warrior.
Remember, Jon is 15-16 years old when most of these fights are happening. So he’s still young and growing. People will also say “oh, but Jaime Lannister was a god at that age”. Honestly, who cares? How many characters are comparable to Jaime at any age? It’s such a dumb comparison. I’ve even seen people argue that a 13 year old Peck is better than Jon and huh? Jon hasn’t won over any knights….because he’s not encountering them in the first place.
It’s clear that GRRM holds Jon’s skill in high regard. I mean the first Jon POV chapter established him as a noted swordsman. It also clear that Jon isn’t meant to be the warrior type. He’s a deconstruction of the archetypal fantasy protagonist. GRRM has chosen to build his political skills, so he’s not putting much of a focus on how well he swings his sword. That doesn’t mean though that he doesn’t have any skill at all. Just that it’s not the main focus of his character. But I think this fandom generally has the most wretched discourse when it comes to this stuff. Like people on Reddit this past week tried to argue that Brienne is overrated…Brienne, of all people. It’s just insane to me that people think they know more than the guy who wrote the damn books.
13 worst blorboficiation
Has got to be Kevan Lannister. Not so much on tumblr, but it’s a disease in some of the other communities. For whatever reason, he’s quite beloved. And this is rather strange because he is very much complicit in the corrupt Lannister regime. And as far as we know, he’s also fully supported Tywin in everything (which includes legitimate war crimes). He has his moments where he is shown to actually care for family members (e.g., Lancel, Tyrion), and that makes him a delightfully complex character. He’s also really funny. But we shouldn’t ignore his really bad traits. I’ve had to suffer a bunch of “Kevan Lannister is the best guy ever” posts on Reddit, and it’s absolutely maddening. That’s not to say that we can’t like “bad” people! Heck, Cersei is one of my faves. But it’s weird how certain characters get a pass for doing problematic things (e.g., Kevan or even Bobby B), and other characters get lambasted for the most tame things imaginable. It’s just the hypocrisy that’s annoying.
16 you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
Powerscaling lol. It can be fun, but the people who engage in these discussions can be so tedious and boring. Tiktok and Reddit are full of this. “Who is the greatest fighter”, “who is the best warrior”, “this is why prime Robert low diffs Barristan Selmy”, and it’s the same old arguments every time. I think we should get more creative with powerscaling if we have to do it. Like “who has the best 🛌 skills”. Let’s at least argue over something fun, damn.
22 your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
This is going to be twofold:
- On tumblr? Easily Jon’s relationship with magic. In fact, people on here will go out of their way to argue that it’s actually not important to the plot, which is absolutely bonkers. Beyond warging, there’s a lot of weird magical stuff going on with Jon that should be put under the microscope. And I’d even argue that Jon’s a pretty special warg and cannot be compared to the other Stark kids (even Bran) because of how his powers manifest. Ghost is also obviously one of the most special animal familiars in the series (maybe even THE most special one), but no one ever talks about how special he is. A lot of people seem to believe that Jon will be KiTN, but it’s insane how we don’t talk about why it’s magically important for him to rule the North, considering his deep connections to Northern mysticism, religion, and lore.
- Elsewhere: the parallels between Jon and Bran. They’re essentially the same character base split into two (Seoman Snowlack, Frodo, King Arthur, Paul and Leto Atreides, Odin, etc). Both arcs parallel each other and are heading to the same destination, but the details will be different. This is getting to my last point, but I firmly believe we’re getting an ending with both King Jon and King Bran. I like to think of them as two competing but complementary sides of King Arthur’s tale. Jon is the one that is true to legend, as he follows the archetypal hidden prince-to-king trope. Jon is essentially “what if Arthur actually went on his hero’s/knightly quest?”Bran is the subverted one, where young Arthur gets a little detour; so “what if Arthur didn’t go on the hero’s/knightly quest but instead had to take up a job as a part time wizard?” Both will end up kings, just as Arthur did, but it will be different versions of the legend.
- Also: WTF is up with the Watch/Wall? What magic was used to build the Wall and who built it? Why can’t dragons cross? And why can’t wights cross either? What magic dictates that? What’s up with the Nightfort? Why does one only need to say part of the vows to open the gate? And what’s up with the NW vows? Why do they give Lightbringer vibes?! Is the NW Lightbringer? The NW is directly credited with the ending of the Long Night so was the last hero a member of the original group? Who was he? What happened to him after? If the last hero inspired AA then did the NW (and their vows) inspire tales of his flaming sword? And why did the relationship between the Watch and the CoF fizzle out? When did it fizzle out? And who are the LCs whose tenures have not been recorded? Why did they only start recording in the 600s (iirc)? What other history has been lost over time? Who was the Night King? Where did his half-human children go? Need that old man to answer these stat
25 common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing
Several people will block me for this…but King Bran. Look, I get that Bran isn’t the most popular character out there. But so many people convinced themselves that he would die in that cave or he would amount to nothing which is very, very strange. And it also doesn’t help that a lot of the complaints reek of ableism.
GRRM obviously considers Bran to be central to this series. He is the first viewpoint character (and potentially the last one). He is the most magical character in the story. The scene that birthed ASOIAF came about because of Bran. It’s also said that GRRM considered writing the books through Bran’s POV but decided against it pretty quickly.
Anyone who paid attention to Bran’s story would know that we’re going to get some huge payoff to his story. In fact, I think it’s safer to assume that kingship has always been in the cards for him. I think most of us Bran stans thought he’d be KiTN (actually some of us over at Westeros.org thought he’d end up as the final Lord of Harrenhal). I never once considered King of all Westeros but I’ve had time to think about it ever since the show ended and I’m like, “duh!”. It’s thematically relevant and sound for Bran to end up king. We’re about to enter into a winter apocalypse but Bran’s direwolf is called Summer. Not only is he the representation of summer (which means renewal, rejuvenation, etc.), but he’s also fashioned after the Fisher King. He is also the second coming of Brandon the Builder - who constructed castles all over Westeros, not just the North; and if legends are true, this happened after the Long Night. He’s following after the footsteps of the Last Hero, and is the only other character apart from Jon who is actually fighting in the front lines against the Others. He’s going to be super important!
I can understand some of the questions people having regarding King Bran, mainly those of a political nature. But we’re left with two books. And two books is plenty to move the necessary pieces for Bran’s crowning. Hell, did people expect that Dany would be Queen of Meereen as they started reading ASOS? Most didn’t. A lot can happen in two books. A lot can happen in a singular book. GRRM has enough time to set up a scenario on which Bran is the only one left to rule.
I personally think that the apocalypse will essentially destroy Westeros as we know it, leading to the creation of a new kingdom(s). D&D botched the GoT ending so people have a hard time seeing the thematic weight of a boy who represents summer rising to kingship, but the books lay enough groundwork imo. And I think ACOK shows us that Bran, despite his age, would make a wise ruler. So I’m all for King Bran. Not only is it thematically sound, but I love the idea of a disabled kid rising to power at the end since we don’t see that in a lot of fantasy.

mahtin blackwood for the ask game (also good luck with your finals!!)
ty jason <33
first impression - what an unassuming silly fellow who seems far too in over his head for this job! <- chump who fell hook line and sinker for his act impression now - one of the most wonderfully complex and deep characters I've ever had the pleasure of getting to know. doing his best to be kind in a world not kind to him, but he refuses to take any shit. still occasionally gets done dirty by the fandom, unfortunately. favorite moment - "I am Martin Blackwood and I am not lonely anymore!" <- MAG 170 dropped when I was getting into TMA and the art for it always stuck in my mind because of it. such a good episode. idea for a story - ohhhh I have a super old wip in my files of Martin meeting Gerry while he still worked at the institute library ... so probably something along those lines. unpopular opinion - I think Web!Martin could have been implemented into canon without depreciating jmart tbh. for a show that stresses that nothing is black and white, good or bad, the Web feels pretty firmly rooted in the villain territory. a friendly face falling to it could have been a neat contrast to that. ultimately, I get why they didn't go that route, but I trust Jonny would have been nuanced enough to make it work. favorite relationship - lol. Jonmartin is really the only option here isn't it. on a platonic level I love his dynamic with Melanie too, they really had a lot more history than their chat in MAG 190 implied. favorite headcanon - big fan of him getting a white streak in his hair as a result of the Lonely; not only does it parallel Jon's gray streaks, it has the 'desaturation' imagery I really enjoy with the entity!

1, 3, 12, 17, 28, 29 for da ao3 wrapped. answer my questions boy
a la this post!
How many words have you written this year?
for things i've posted on ao3, i've written 23,141 words! as we know though, i have written much more than this. i'm not counting shit in my docs cause this is not google docs wrapped WE KNOW WE KNOW
What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
i'm really really proud of Dinner, and Other Small Joys. even though i'm not as much of a pjsekai girlie as i was at the beginning of this year, i still think that fic is really nice. i think that the throughlines of kanade's dad and her anxiety carry really well :3
How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?
well. in total, across all fandoms, i have 17 "in progress" wips, meaning i've written more than like two sentences for it. i've got a lot more ideas (23 total) and some that are in a brainstorming stage (11 total). but in terms of wips i really wanna finish, or ones i might publish, i've got about 7 on the roster!
Your favorite character to write this year?
kanadeee <3 i'm not really even sure why like logistically i should've preferred astrid more since i wrote her more? but i really liked writing kanade idk </3 i think she just ticks my brain right because she's a bit like me when i was younger and she has a great developing friend group. ONLINE FRIEND GROUP MOSTLY! LIKE I DID!!!
Favorite work you wrote this year?
not to be redundant but Dinner, and Other Small Joys lol
Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
ill find one from each fic just for funsies :D ordered oldest fic to newest
let's not spill the truth, it's easier being alone: [The knife] gleams tangerine in the firelight for a moment before losing its intense glare and piercing the flesh of the mammal below.
find my rosemary hill: All the disappointment she’d been avoiding—because surely her luck wouldn’t have changed so rapidly, after all of her ups and downs so far—fell abruptly onto her like a collapsed roof, burying her under the rubble.
Dinner, and Other Small Joys: She has no father to visit the local stores with; she and her mother cannot learn to sew or knit together; there are no little siblings who run wild around her house, who need enrichment and encouragement from an older sister who only ever sits quietly alone in her room.
tired of these unchanging days: Everything moves in a simultaneous blur; the gray mixes with the flashing reds and creates an ugly, sickening brown, and the floor below turns to slush.
we're starting over and i love you, darling: Martin doesn’t react, just sits like a chiseled slab of stone or marble, and Jon gets the distinct impression that he’s chipped away at his perfection with a jagged, rusty knife—scraped the shine off because he couldn’t see in its wake.

20 questions for fic writers
@spyscrapper tagged me (shocking for everyone, i'm sure). thanks beloved
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
26!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
337,006 (a chunk of which is cowritten)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
posted, i have star wars (totj, kotor, swtor, prequels, and tcw), lockwood & co., and asoiaf. i've also written hotd-era asoiaf fics, a couple of unfinished mdzs fics, and something for grimm floating around.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
The Bond Between: fic i wrote for a tcw zine, Ahsoka & Obi-Wan. 137 kudos.
(note: technically the second fic is one that got hit by the kudos bot, so i am taking it out of the ranking because i cannot trust its numbers)
How Far We've Come: Lockwood & Co., written and set right after TCS. Kipps and the crew. 62 kudos.
Wasteland: prequels/tcw/original trilogy, Obi-Wan on Tatooine having a truly questionable time. 60 kudos.
Dragon's Rise: asoiaf, post-series. Dany, Jon, Tyrion, and Arya go to Old Valyria so Dany can break the Doom and rebuild the Valyrian Freehold. i hate several things i did with characters here, truly, and i am never going to finish it; i'm keeping it up so i can see comments and kudos, because it got a lot of engagement (posted right after the show ended), but i would change so many things now. 54 kudos.
tremble for yourself, my man (you know that you have seen this all before): kotor - Cassus Fett dies on Malachor and wakes up six years in the past, with the knowledge that something is manipulating the war. he kidnaps Revan and Alek right off Dantooine at one point to help him. extremely full of torture! also the cousin of found family, sibling acquisition via kidnapping. 50 kudos.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
i try to, but i haven't been great at it for a while. so occasionally it takes me a few months, lol
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
posted? probably my mando wars novelization. none of the really angsty stuff is finished, and i also tend to shy away from bitter endings because they make me depressed. and i do mean depressed, i have depression and i tend to get a little too into my characters' heads, which is not great when they're having bad times.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
uh. um. the... ahsoka and obi-wan one maybe??
8. Do you get hate on fic?
the only ones that actually hurt me were on a years-old asoiaf fic. i've gotten two or three in recent years when i've been writing star wars stuff, but they're so out of pocket they're absolutely hilarious to me. i make fun of them with my friends. shoutout to the person who told me not to use bitch because it was a slur against women when the context was literally a man calling his long hair a bitch to deal with. i am NEVER getting over that, it's so funny.
9. Do you write smut?
periodically, yeah. it's fun, i just am also horribly embarrassed trying to write it lol. i have very little posted, but i've got a handful of half-finished ones in docs.
10. Do you write crossovers?
nnnnnnot really? i toss them around for some of my OCs and original works (between each other), but i don't really write them or post them. now, fusions? yeah, i write those. the hp au is the only one i've posted, and also is my favorite. read the main fic before you read the oneshot, though, because besides being utterly awful (affectionate) it also makes no sense without context. not that the series has given basically any of that context yet, but, yk. it's coming. eventually.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not as far as i know. there's less theft in really niche communities like the stuff i tend to write.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
nope
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
yes!! @spyscrapper (i keep typing revanchxst as your url beloved when will you change it back) is my coauthor for the hp au and for our big swtor novelization, plus a couple of totj fics.
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
frankly, a couple of my ocs who live rent-free in my head at all times, from one of my original works. 1920s monster hunters, secret government organization, repressed queer people (person. the others are not at all repressed he's just a dumbass about emotions), constant threats of violence, morally grey pov characters, murder. i am literally insane about them. also a different set of ocs from fic that developed their own original work as well: magic university, depressed gay people, Plots, the usual. i am constantly chewing on them. in fandom, knight/scourge and cassus/ultimate, probably.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but probably won't?
most of my asoiaf stuff, tbh
16. What are your writing strengths?
prose. give me a good several paragraphs and i will give you gorgeous prose. flowing, poetic, great imagery, the works. i am not afraid to say that's what i'm good at
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
FUCKING dialogue. i hate dialogue so much. no more talking society has progressed past the need for talking. i can do a sentence or two, but full conversations? evil.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fics?
I'll throw in a word or two without translating, because single words are easy to remember and write a glossary for at the end of the chapter. full sentences, though? They're either in italics (if the fic is generally speaking one language and this is another), or unmarked except by dialogue tags (much rarer, generally only do it if the pov character would mostly be speaking another language and so marking it as unusual doesn't make sense. e.g., Cassus talking to other Mandalorians isn't gonna be italicized because it being in Mando'a is expected.)
19. First fandom that you wrote for?
sherlock, i think? i wrote an OC fic that has now evolved into its own original universe because i ended up hating sherlock after season 4, and also the fandom was so fucking annoying. i was writing doctor who and supernatural OC fics around the same time, but i'm pretty sure sherlock was first.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
tremble for yourself, my man (linked above) or start a war, for posted fics. for unposted stuff, a cassus wip i will eventually. eventually finish
tags: @zaolat, @hermitmoss, yeah that's all i've got lee got all the other people i know lol

NOPT: Haladriel - Galadriel x Halbrand/Sauron
5. Do you have an OT3 (or more)? If so, what?
Clarisse de La rue x Silena Beauregard x Charles Beckendorf and you can pry them from my cold dead hands
Adult scooby gang polycule
RoP Elrond x Durin x Disa
6. What’s the fandom you have the most ships in?
In ye olden days it was the HP fandom but fuck jkr
Probably lotr by default because there’s so many characters and variations available
7. Current favorite ship?
Avatrice - Beatrice and Ava from Warrior Nun
Philip/Benoit Blanc - Knives Out: Glass Onion
WangXian - Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian from mdzs
8. Current least favorite ship?
Haladriel 😂😭
But also RoP Gil-galad with anyone; he’s so…different …than the GG I know
9. Ship that you just can’t get behind and why?
That weird shit in Hobbit between Galadriel and Gandalf please no it’s just. She’s powerful and strong and capable and has a nice trophy husband (I mean he’s a great fighter and leader but in the movies he’s a trophy husband). Let her be free from weird love triangles
Daenerys x any Westerosi man pretty much. Fuck the Tyrion ships, the Jon ships esp after that last episode, and extra fuck the Jorah ships. Creepy men who use and violate her. Jon had *some* potential pre season 7. But eh. Give her Yara 🥰
Tony McGee and any of his coworkers. They’re terrible to him.
10. Weirdest ship you want or have seen?
I’ve seen a lot of weird shit honestly, but usually inanimate object ships with people. Like I know it’s a fetish for some people (no judgement) but to write it in fic as crack fic throws me sometimes.
11. ALWAYS ship:
Taakitz - Taako and Kravitz from TAZ: Balance
Blupjeans - Lup and Barry Bluejeans from TAZ: Balance
12. NEVER ship:
Xue Yang with anyone but especially with Xiao Xingchen and/or Song Lan; super fucking creepy and messed up from mdzs
Bonus Round:
13. When you started fandom, was it called smut or lemons?
🍋
14. Which fan site was your first? (Eg, live journal, fanfic.net, ao3, wattpad, etc?)
Fanfic.net but I was also on this like specific Nancy Drew and Hardy boys fanfiction website that I can’t remember the name of for the life of me
15. Did you ever see the Charlieissocoollike, Dan Howell, and Phil Lester ship collab video? (Dating myself here lol)
Hahaha YES. The answer is probably in the middle or from far away depending.
No pressure tags: @starlady66 @runawaymun @sotwk @thesolarangel @wyback and anyone else who feels like it! <3
Please don’t tag @elithilanor because that is also me 😂 and the answers will be the same

20 Questions for Fic Writers
tysm to @spaghettisaurusrex for tagging me!!
1. How many works do you have on ao3? 18
2. What's your total ao3 word count? 83,346
3. What fandoms do you write for? At the moment it's mostly Angel, with a bit of the Oklahoma revival as well! What a combo.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? From number five to number one:
A Series of Statements Regarding Sunnydale, California (btvs and tma crossover that I wrote the first four chapters of and then stopped updating over three years ago. sorry everyone),
looking up for heaven (vaguely angsty little women fic that I wrote in an afternoon bc I was In My Feelings about jo and laurie, but is honestly pretty good),
Those I Love, It Rends (really really angsty little women fic that I wrote in more than an afternoon bc I was In My Feelings about jo and laurie, and is also honestly pretty good),
Coming Home (little women fic about jo and laurie reconciling that's still a personal fave of mine),
sincere and honest conversation (tma fic about jon coming out to the archive team that I wrote in like a day for aspec archives week and it..... guys it sucks. it sucks so bad. can people please stop leaving kudos on this one i'm so sick of getting emails about it oh my god. not even linking this one fuck that
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I try to!! I'm always super excited to get comments and also have chronic won't-shut-the-fuck-up disease so I'll usually leave some kind of response, even if I have no idea how to respond to positive feedback half the time lol
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? probably triptych? feels like cheating since it's really just a character study of the actual ending to ok19, but surprsingly enough I don't actually have that much written that ends angstily
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? oooo I'm gonna say Coming Home - I probably have written fluffier fic but I find that one very cathartic and think the ending to it is just generally really strong
8. Do you get hate on fics? ehhhh I've had a couple of annoying comments in the past but nothing I'd call hate lol
9. Do you write smut? nope, and I probably never will! I wrote like. one vaguely suggestive scene for give them all that they can drink bc I kind of had to for story reasons and jesus it felt like pulling teeth. I simply do not enjoy it. anyway if like a year from now I've written myself into a corner where I have to do that again feel free to laugh at me
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? I mean I'm currently in the process of trying to finish my Oklahoma/Magnus Archives crossover fic so I think there's your answer. Actually funnily enough all the crossover fics I've written have been something crossing over with tma. What can I say, I just really love the tma lore and enjoy applying it to other things!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not as far as I know!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Again, not as far as I know!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Nope! Closest I've come is Miles helping me out with editing to be a king of a ruined world and us bouncing off each other with our ok19 fic thoughts in general
14. What's your all-time favorite ship? I'm with you on this one El - can't answer this question my ability to have an all time favourite is hindered by my brain jumping from interest to interest like some kind of fucked up flea. also I mostly write gen anyway so. eh.
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? oh dear lord there's so many. Like every couple of weeks I contemplate going back to this wishverse au I wrote where buffy and angel survive the battle against the master and proceed to have a deeply fucked up relationship and ruin each others' lives. It was vaguely inspired by the silt verses and the wolf 359 minisode variations on a theme. It was kind of about aromanticism. It was mildly unhinged. And it will probably never be finished because I couldn't figure out a good direction to take it in. Pour one out.
16. What are your writing strengths? Imagery!! People always tell me my imagery is super vivid and memorable and you know what? They're right! I think I have a knack for coming up with imagery and metaphors and motifs and weaving them throughout my writing. Doesn't hurt that I edit my fics like they're academic essays so even if they're not interesting they at least always have strong throughlines
17. What are your writing weaknesses? hmmmm I feel like pacing is something I struggle with. Also while I think my imagery and metaphors are strong I also have a really hard time figuring out how like, subtle to make them? Like I just Do Not have an intuitive sense of what's too heavy-handed or what's too oblique, so I feel like it can end up leaning a bit on the obvious side. it's something I'm working on!
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? It's not something I've ever really thought about, to be honest! Probably not something I'd do myself, but that's really just because I'd be likely to mess it up lol
19. First fandom you wrote for? Lost, which is truly something I can never live down. guys I really really like that one insanely underdeveloped ghost-talking guy
20. Favorite fic you've written? either give them all that they can drink or how ridiculous I was as a marionette. much as I clown on myself for writing not one but two ace cordy fics that were meant to be short and ended up being 9k, I can't act like I don't think they were both excellent. oh, and I'm also always very proud of what exists of to be a king of a ruined world, though I feel like I can't call it my favourite on the grounds that it's only like. a third done.

Note
dear winterlyn, i just want to say that i am hopelessly and utterly in love with taa/tgd and everything about it! i've left a few comments on ao3 and am truly awed that you've replied so thoughtfully and thoroughly to each one. but as a new reader who has devoured taa and tgd in one fell swoop, i had some general, non chapter-specific comments i didn't know where to place that i thought to leave here.
despite being an arya fan who reads arya-centric fics, i really am not a fan at all of stories that characterize her to a point of indulgence (e.g. queen, ridiculously skilled warrior/fighter, beautiful, all the boys in love with her, etc.). and yet you use many of these same elements while somehow still preserving the essence of her character, and i have become so entirely enchanted by your writing and all its plots and sub-plots regardless.
you truly have a gift for writing the loveliest characters and relationships. of course i love arya, the protagonist and heroine, for obvious reasons. jaime i particularly love as well. but i have never particularly liked original characters in fanfic, and yet you've somehow managed to bewitch me with the handsome man, the bear, and of course sweet little rickon. in fact those three have strangely become my favorite characters, no less. the hot-and-cold hm who i have come to begrudgingly love for all his petty jealously and capricious, chaotic energy; the bear who i simply love unrepentantly and wholeheartedly for being the sweetest and most huggable teddy bear of a trained assassin; and precocious yet shrewd rickon who i adore with all his clever, perfect quips and teeth jewelry and bone-braided hair (no he doesn't speak to the gods lol, the gods speak to HIM).
even the rat i am intrigued by in spite of my dislike, though i can't quite pin down (straight-laced in that his first loyalties seem to be to the order, but that even hm is made ill at ease by his cold af dismissal of any ties to arya is somewhat foreboding, though he's also not completely unfeeling given his seemingly genuine affection for the bear). i even had a fondness for less prominent ocs before their deaths (rip olive, staaviros, will).
out of everyone, i think the bear may be my fave. seriously, if you hurt him i will never ever forgive you.
i am also particularly intrigued by the prophecies and visions you employ. some of them seem clear enough (howland "stealing" jon from arya as a brother and the yet-unclaimed viserion swallowing ghost as metaphors for jon's parentage), but others seem to be something of a chekov's gun looming over the story that i can't help but dread (gendry's supposed eventual betrayal agh!).
and i haven't forgotten all the little mysterious sub-plots: the biro assassination, the fm and iron bank alliance, the origin of the fm deal with varys and illyrio, littlefinger and sansa, etc. i am fascinated every time you give a tiny glimpse into these other worlds, whether it is the conversation between km and the sealord or sansa in the vale.
(but seriously, wtf was going on with the biro assassination? ok i might be crazy but was km the one to put the hit on helllind because he knew mattine would trade her life and face for biro's death due to her believing the sealord's lies, which would then let the sealord marry vorena, which was the foremost deal between km and the sealord??? but then why didn't the sealord just put a hit on biro himself???)
anyway, this is by far the most i've ever written in response to any fic, and the most i've written in a long time that is not work or school-related. there are many more thoughts (and questions!) i have about taa/tgd, but i'll end this excessive ramble by expressing my love for jaqen/arya and my crushing desire that they reunite soon.
cheers! <3
I can't express to you how much this means to me. So much time and effort has gone into writing this that it's so gratifying to know someone out there appreciates what I've done and enjoys it.
As for the Biro/Sealord/KM plot, I think the Sealord wanted a few more degrees of separation between himself and Biro's death so his reputation would remain intact and he wouldn't come under suspicion. Vorena enabled the plot and was behind taking out Hellind, and she had an obstensible motive for Hellind's death (Biro being in love with Hellind) that sounds reasonable even if the real motive was the part her death would play in the ultimate plot.
Thank you so much for this message--it has really brought a smile to my face. I have *just* posted ch 60, and I implore you to remember what i've alluded to here and there--this is the "Empire Strikes Back" of my trilogy, so there may be some unpleasant darkness before we reach the ultimate conclusion in part 3. ;)

Not to be greedy but… 55, 58, 69 please?? Thank you!!!!
55. Have you noticed any patterns in your fics? Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc?
Hmm... I mean I do write a lot of historical AUs, and I try to vary expressions to fit the various time periods. My favorite expression I used in an rpf historical AU only to hear the Real Person say it IRL some weeks later was "folded like a cheap suit" (Podsa's Tommy, and my coast guard au).
I think, and I'm not sure about this, but I THINK I use food and drink as focal points. As like, a reson for characters to get together and talk, or realize feelings about each other. Lots of bars, lots of kitchens, lots of ALLEYWAYS outside bars and kitchens. As for themes.... If I want to be highbrow about it: "Do you love me in spite of my imperfections? / I love you because of your imperfections" experiencing the mortifying ordeal of being known to reap the rewards of being loved etc
58. Do you have a favorite piece of figurative language you’ve written?
The only thing I can think of is the line "It felt as if the night was trying to creep inside through the windows. " which isn't QUITE figurative language, I don't think?? It's from chapter 3 of my Tommy and Jon work for RFK fic lol. I don't pay much attention to this kind of thing, it's like I can picture things and then I try to find the best way to explain it. Like this passage from my first Bastille rpf fic, where I never would have paid attention to the words/similes I used in the bolded section if my bestie @pursuingsunshine hadn't pointed them out: "Kyle stayed frozen to the spot, knowing that if he closed his eyes the afterimage of Dan’s angular face and wild hair would stain the insides of his eyelids for ages, far longer than fireworks."
69. What are your favorite fics at the moment?
I'm NOT reading the amount of fic I want to be reading right now, so my answer feels woefully unprepared!! But I'm on a little maxiel kick atm and this below decks au for the f1 BigBang was absolutely excellent, and I'm eagerly waiting for the continuation of @cvrthage's UFC fic! For all that I write historical aus myself, I do love me a good modern AU!
Also if you've ever seen an episode of MASH you NEED to read For All the Repetition by @belovedofaforbiddengod. It's so fucking good it made me lose my mind!!!!

do you have any ships youre more inclined to?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ I will admit that I do have some favorites for certain muses, that doesn't mean I subscribe any less to the "shipping with chemistry" philosophy. Even if one of my mutuals is a character I really like with one of mine, I'm more inclined to sit and think on it and run a few interactions before approaching the subject- or accepting if I was approached first. ]
[ Now, with my wee disclaimer out of the way, here's my list of an answer (minus OCs because. Everyone except Jackdaw is original fiction, and even then Irene doesn't have any ships at the moment.) ]
Abe: I am very attached to both the idea of Abe Has Two Hands (for Hellboy and Liz), and B.P.R.D. Agent Found Family Siblings- but the former has been growing on me lately. I don't particularly like Abe with Kate, I see them more as explicitly close friends, but I could be persuaded otherwise.
Bro'Dee: my first big ship for him was an itty bitty rarepair with Martian Manhunter. That's still near and dear to me, but Arkillo, Hal, and Kilowog have entered my multi-shipper heart. The idea of Bro'Dee and Sinestro or Iroque/Indigo-1 has crossed my mind a few times now, but those are harder to explain, lmao. Bro'Dee's Mentor-Slash-Adopted-Dad relationships with Kyle and Razer are So Important to me, thus unsurprisingly no-gos as far as romantic ships.
Dedan: I don't really ship him with anyone. He absolutely has feelings for Queen Vader, not just protective/loyalty but romantic- however he knows better than to ever admit so allowed. He and Enoch are a big no for me, same with Japhet. Dedan and Hugo Found Family is all I really care about dhhsks-
Edwin: besides (obviously) Jon, I really like the idea of. Not necessarily a romance (not at first) but he and Eddie. I like ships with Nygma that go from "I hate you so much you're so stupid" to "okay maybe you're not THAT stupid but I STILL HATE YOU" so on and so forth. Also love the idea of Winnie and Selina being little shit kleptomaniac friends.
Harriet: hello yes I think Harrie and Steph Brown would be so good. Not for anyone else in a five mile radius, but they would be the perfect Chaos Lesbians. (There's a joke about Steph liking people with caffeine addictions to be made here.)
Harvey and Harv: Bruce Wayne or Oswald Cobblepot are who I almost always think of for romantic ships for the Dents. I think them and Selina and/or Eddie could be interesting as well. A really inexplicable pairing I like is them and Jon of all people, I have no clue why, lol. (I also think it'd be interesting to see what a Two-Face/Batman/Riddler relationship would look like òvó)
Jon: again excluding the obvious answer (Edwin), I'm not opposed to he and Riddler but it's not my favorite. I'm more partial to Batman, Catwoman, Bane, or even Two-Face or Croc as a partner(s) for Jon. Harley, Ivy, and Hatter are hard nos for different reasons (found family, usually found family's girlfiend and/or lesbian, and Very Bad History respectively.)
Linda: another I don't really ship with anyone. She's not aromantic, but. In terms of like practice, Yes She Is. Linda isn't that concerned about a partner (and refuses to tell me what her type is beyond "people I can use.")
Salaak: Guy. Or Kilowog. It's inevitable that Salaak is the "long suffering" in the "jackass and long suffering partner" dynamic, and name two bigger jackasses in the Corps (that aren't Hal or Kyle.)
Sameer: also zero ships. The only Squad member he has even close to a positive opinion of is Harley, and even then it's more "you didn't plot to kill me, leave me to die, or try and force me into shit so. You're cool I guess" than anything.
Thoth (really straddling the line between "canon" and "OC"): I've mentioned this on my sideblog for EoK but. I didn't intend to pair either god with anyone (and still don't, not in the main story at least), but Set and Thoth have become my number 1 pairing for that project (tied with a pair of goddesses that do actually get together in main story.) I also like the idea of Thoth hanging out with other wisdom gods and psychopomps, not necessarily as a romantic thing but a fun dynamic.

all of the mandalorian stuff you’ve been reblogged makes me want to watch it but i don’t really like Star Wars. would you still recommend it?
Yes!! But I’m extremely biased lol. I think it’s some of the best Star Wars by far. Jon Favreau is such a great storyteller, it’s concise and fun, it’s got good emotional beats and funny moments. It’s just a well-rounded show. And Mando is such an endearing character with how reluctant he is to be in the spotlight of his own show and they do such a great job of conveying this.
Plus

It’s definitely worth a shot! I was absolutely hooked on episode one. The opening scene is one of my favorite opening scenes of a show ever. If you hate it, it’s totally fair, but I’d at least try it!

the character question game but with gar and/or jon? (also love escapism!)
thank you for the ask! and I will absolutely answer with both of my boys!
and I'm so glad you like Escapism! That means so much! 💚💚🥺
:Gar:
a song that reminds me of them
I'mma do my three favs because why not
Monster - STARSET
Animal - The Living Tombstone
I'm Not Ok - Weathers
what they smell like
honestly.. he probably naturally smells like outside if he doesn't shower.
an otp
I think everyone knows but
✨GARJON✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a notp
G*rchel, enough said.
favorite platonic/familial relationships
tiger son with his emo bird dad
Tumblr media
a headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that i disagree with
it's not really a headcanon but I'm not a fan of the whole Gar is the silly jokester of the team and that's his only role, especially not in Titans. He can be goofy sure but I prefer writing and seeing his character as more mature and level headed compared to Rachel and Tim. He's the kid who never got to be a kid so acting childish and relaxing or just enjoying life by having fun and acting his age isn't something he knows how to do.
the position they sleep in
on his side. absolutely can not fall asleep on his back, too many memories of being strapped down in Chief's lab.
a crossover au i’d love to see them in
SUPERMAN AND LOIS. Escapism was birthed because of how badly I wanted to see Gar with the Kents.
my favorite outfit they’ve ever worn
Tumblr media
the hair style, the jacket, everything about this look is just top-tier
:Jon:
a song that reminds me of them
three again,,
Superkid - Livingston
I Am Not A Robot - MARINA
Happy Face - Jagwar Twin
what they smell like
Gar in a fic thinks: "A very specific lavender cologne with a hint of that fresh burning firewood smell." so we'll go with that lol
an otp
as seen above in Gar's "an otp" answer, but JonTag was cute too
a notp
Jon with any of his 'love interests'. they all suck.
favorite platonic/familial relationships
moonlight and sunshine twins
Tumblr media
a headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that i disagree with
I really don't know, I mostly agree with a lot of the Jon headcanons because they're usually made to give Jon's character more depth since the show sure doesn't. I guess people acting like he's a jock stereotype just because he dresses fancy and sporty is annoying since it's been shown many times in the show that Jon is far from a "jock" character.
the position they sleep in
back to my fics for the answer: "Flipping onto his side, gazing at Jonathan who -to his not surprise- is sleeping on his stomach with his arms crossed under his pillow and neck twisted, facing away from Gar; making the teenager cringe, imagining how painfully stiff Jon’s neck must be when he wakes up. How could someone sleep like that?" that's how.
a crossover au i’d love to see them in
Titans.. but really I just want him to meet Gar 😅
my favorite outfit they’ve ever worn
Tumblr media
this jacket is such a look, wish he would have worn it again.. but it's rightfully and logically tied with
Tumblr media
the earrings, the smoky eye, the leather jacket and gloves, the tight red pants with those boots. Jordan was already attractive but this is a whole new level 😳😳
thank you again for the ask! ❤️

Bingo. And the worst part is their complete lack of self awareness. I don't remember any instances in the films when he gave and she took? I almost want to rewatch them now but meh lol
Oh yes i do also get put off by the oversexualization it's so try hardish. The two flirted quite often in the series but I see people go way overboard with them to the point of lunacy.
Oh it's not that I necessarily dislike the 90s version, I just found them to be a bit over the top, overrated and not worth all the hype they generate year round. Raul Julia was just putting on his best John Astin immitation yet people call him the greatest Gomez of all time? I think Angelica Huston looked okay in the part but I don't get why Millennias and Gen Z crowned her as their Mortisha when Carolyns wonderful and decidedly more...ahem upbeat performance is right there. Christina Ricci turned an adorable and morose little girl into an unlikable psycho in training. Christopher Lloyd's Fester is a disgusting perv. I could go on. As far as i'm concerned, granny was the only character in the movies that did a great job that honored the og actress
Yep.
I think a lot of these shippers wish they themselves had someone slavishly obsess over them like the most important person in the world, so they’re giddy to see it get validated by the AF. I strongly suspect it’s why they call Herman x Lily “boring” or unhealthy, because heaven forbid BOTH parties have a need for affection and attention while simultaneously respecting each other’s independence and hobbies outside of their spouse. I get a lot of husbands do not give as much as they take irl but Tish just acts like she inherently deserves to be worshipped while never having to reciprocate, and Gomez seems fine with the arrangement. That’s not a relationship based on mutual love and respect. (Seriously, I feel like therapy would do him good... Remember when he had a complete breakdown in the movie? Is he manic depressive? Anxious? I’m worried for you, Gomez!) I don’t understand how these are usually the same people hating on couples like Disney or rom coms or whatever when they’re no different, definitely no worse, than Tish x Gomez who are completely codependent unlike those ships.
TBH I do like Raul, he’s talented and he did try to make his Gomez relatively close to Jon’s which I respect as someone who prefers the old show, but I don’t disagree, people act like he invented Gomez himself. Anjelica being so loved makes sense when you think about it, Carolyn’s Tish is pretty much a normal wealthy housewife in terms of personality- docile, prim, proper, ladylike. People don’t respect these qualities anymore (when there’s nothing wrong with any of that). While AH’s Tish is still prim and proper to a T, she is also noticably colder and snarkier and downright catty at times. Add in a worshipful rich husband and children she doesn’t have to raise* and she’s every “I’m not like those stupid preppy girls” goth girl’s dream. Carolyn’s Tish was quite different from the comic’s but ultimately she’s still nice and friendly so I prefer her. Do goths need to always be mean or something?
Fester was never my favorite character, and while I don’t really have an issue with him in the movies (besides the perv part you mentioned), I’ve actually never liked Christopher Lloyd as him, as good an actor as he is. Christina Ricci was a very talented child actor but  my gosh, her Wednesday is honestly one of my least favorite characters ever and the whole reason we have a generation of girls who think they’re interesting for hating pink or fashion or whatnot. It’s fair to say the OG kids didn’t have much personality but I’ll take that over being a murderous little bully. (And of course, the perky suburban camp kids and attractive blonde Debbie are so over-the-top evil the movie practically forces you to side with the Addams, which is a message I don’t like.) Pugsley I guess is fine. I forget he’s there sometimes lol. Same for Lurch and Thing. Totally agree on Grandmama, she’s always been my favorite character and Carol Kane is hilarious. Cousin Itt also deserves a mention for being far more open-minded than the rest of his relatives are.

Diary of a Horror Buff 8.26.22
Ok so I did some car shopping and we've definetly clarified a few things so thats good so lets relax and watch a bunch of short films because we cool cool like that.
Tumblr media
Whistle and I'll Come To You (2010) dir. Andy de Emmony
Ok so this is probable one of my favorite adaptations so far. If you haven't ever whistle and I'll come to you then your in for a treat.
Also Please Read this Great adaptation if you want a taste.
the basic story is that a man goes to investigate some ruins and finds a strange whistle, he in jest blows in it but soon he is haunted
BY A SPECTER WHO COMES TO HARINGUE YOU FOR YOUR cRiMeS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
This version is a modern adaptation which is honestly kinda refreshing. In this one an old pensioner checks his catatonic wife into a nursing home and spend some time at a seaside hotel that they had previous spent time in in there youth. He finds a curious ring in the sand and the story plays out roughly the same with nightly visits by a mysterious specter.
I loved this because it touched a bit close to home. I have been a caretaker for both my mother and grandmother and caretaker horror if it can called that calls apon a very poignant level of emotion that goes into that dynamic.
Watching somebody you love slowly die before they ever truly stop breathing is the real horror. Being Trapped in a failing body and mind is the real horror. why should we care about life after death when we have to live with death during life.
Ok so thinking of this movie made me sad again so lets watch somebody saw there head off of something.
Midnight Story (2017) dir. Jinanavin Veerapatra, Chaloempong Balpala
Ok so I kinda love how her mother like look at all these scary pictures of you being scared by monsters under the bed lol.
oh god did that get fucked up real quickly.
so we go from a third person perspective to a first as the little girl creeps down the stairs. Her parents are fighting and that fighting becomes violent. The parents morph into hidious creatures and began fighting again until they see there daughter and start chasing her.
this is an absolutely amazingly shot film and it is terrifrying and fucked up thank you for that.
youtube
Woman Who Stole Fingers (2010) dir. Saori Shiroki
CW: Body Horror, stealing peoples joints
ok so this is a animated short film about a women who steals a little boys fingers and toes and as you can imagine kinda fucks up his life cause he kinda needs those to balance and grab things.
I'm not really sure what this movie is about child abuse??? but it is definetly bizarre and uncanny.
youtube
Be Your Own Dentist dir. Jon Sims
Oh god I think I might be sick.
CW: Teeth gore.
Ok so this is a 7 minute meditation track were Katya, the only high-class russian whore, teaches us how to pull out our own teeth with a surgical grade titanium pair of pliers.
It makes me gag it makes me choke and as someone who has had very bad teeth in my life hits way way way to close to home.
youtube
100.000 Acres of Pine dir. Jennifer Alice Wright
so as a PNW Bitch you know I love a good spooky forest vibe.
In this one a ranger goes farther in the woods while struggling to understand the mysterious death of her brother.
Shenanigans, (eldritch forest locations), ensue.
I of course love everything about this, the PNW Forest Aestetic, The Sap Blood, the music, the Casette Tapes. This is everything I love in movies and they are serving it.

Uncle Josh's Nightmare (1900) dir. Edwin S. Porter
OK I mean I kind had to look at that name.
So this is a pretty straightforward. Uncle Josh wakes up one night and Mephistopheles, (are favorite stock character), shows up to hang out. Uncle Josh aint much for wise guys so he trys to give old splitfoot here a pugilist potion. Mephi didn't care much for that so he pulls some Melies Jump Cuts to fuck with him and then reappears everything???
Honestly its not anything we haven't seen before to be honest. But not to be a bitch but its not like Edwin S. Porter has shown a large amount of originality in these shorts.

Uncle Josh in a Spooky Hotel (1900) dir. Edwin S. Porter
This time its a sequel and this time it involves some ghosts and some slapstick. the more i watch these the more I'm convinced that Porter had a Gay Ass crush on George Melies and this was his way of getting his attention.

The Pit and the Pendulum (1913) dir. Alice Guy-Blaché
Ok so another poe adaptation.
so the original story is pretty simple some dude gets inquistitioned and is casually tortured by the spanish catholic church by a giant axe blade on a pendulum that swings back and forth and gets ever slightly lower and lower. Oh and by the way this is told in first person.
Tumblr media
but no serious its pretty fucked up.
also this was hard to get into because it has a really fucking famous clasically piece playing over it which is a little weird cause this is a horror movie and this shit is very clearly Waltz of Flowers which is such a fucking bizarre choice like out of all the classical music out there your gonna play some shit called a waltz of flowers.
anyway in this one some dudes fight over some chick and one of them is a doctor or a monk or something. to be honest I have no Idea.

Sredni Vashtar by Saki (1940) dir. David Bradley
ok so I was not famalier with this story which is a literally ironic giving the font of knowledge that I have been with these things. So Saki was basically a british dude and here is the synopsis from wikipedia.
"Conradin, a sickly 10-year old boy, lives in the care of his despised, overbearing and controlling cousin Mrs De Ropp. He relies on his vivid imagination not only to keep him strong enough to survive, but also to serve as his escape from the real world. Rebelling against Mrs De Ropp's oppressive care, Conradin secretly keeps two animals in an unused garden shed: a hen, which he adores, and a polecat-ferret, which he fears and keeps locked in a hutch. Gradually, Conradin begins to venerate the ferret as a god, naming it Sredni Vashtar. He worships it weekly, bringing offerings of flowers and berries, and stolen nutmeg for special occasions."
So yeah this is the story of a sad lonely boy who worships a ferret. honestly based.
David Bradley is a rather unknown figure to me but apparently he also directed THEY SAVED HITLERS BRAIN, which we all know is a wonderful and not problamatic film.
This was honestly a lovely little gothic story and I'm glad that old crone was a lovely sacrifice.

Porky and Slyvester in Claws for Alarm (1954) dir. Chuck Jones
so this is a much later looney toon short. We've seen early porky pig and honestly the production is so much higher. we have full voice acting, its in color and while for me very little ever truly manages to match the whimsy of the fleischer shorts this one is alright.
Basically Porky and Slyvester find a mysterious hotel but instead of some spooky japes these ghosts are here for blood. like they little ar trying to hang, shoot, slit there throats. Like these ghosts don't fuck around there serving H.H.Holmes realness.
Also porky pig is kinda an asshole for no reason in this short. Slyvester keeps literally saving his life and hes like what are you a Schizo, (which is totes not chill just saying.)

The Alphabet (1969) dir. David Lynch
Ok so it turns out that David Lynch has actually made quite a few fucked up short films goody for me.
Do I understand anything about this absolutely not but am I glad that it exists of course.
OK Whores thats everything that I have for today. thanks for watching with me.
