Today I learned that the style of hat Robin Hood wore is called a “bycocket”.  Also, if this picture is any indication, I wouldn’t look half bad in one.  That’s not me, but it’s pretty close!

Gift art from @@Evianrei depicting one of her stoats coming to one of my mouse towns. Okay, not exactly. Stoats were not allowed in the mouse town (for obvious reasons) until the mice negotiated a peace treaty with the stoats which required them to have a mouse escort to enter the mouse town. This scene takes place shortly after: the stoats had no concept of clothes, so being introduced to them quite naturally produces the reaction you see here! When I say today's obsession is ridiculous hats, I fucking mean it. So I here by present to you:

First of all, it all started with a simple cowboy Twilight doodle... @somer-writes look he has two guns now(and hair)(and ears)

Then there's... Four in a medieval chaperon. With a very long, very mean stick:

Legend in a sombrero??? Idek but sure I guess???

Robin Hood Wild with his bycocket, because of course he is:

With what's been revealed so far of the new playable characters, has there been any theories on what type of rebels they are? (I actually made my own little list of them so far tbf)

I haven't seen much in the way of theories for that yet, but I can take a stab at it. Would love to see your list as well, if you're comfortable with sending it in!

Not sure if you're including Soy and Leo in the "new playable characters", since they're newly playable in the second beta but we've known about them for a bit, but Soy's almost undoubtedly a cowboy theme, and Leo's likely a superhero given the look, Persona, and the few voice lines datamined from the first beta. That probably goes without saying, but just to cover everything!

As for the new new playable characters (haha)...

Since we have this one's full All Out Attack finisher, we have the best idea of what's going on with her right now. She seems to have a traditional Chinese vibe going on (haven't seen any translations around of what the text is yet, though), and the creature in the background sort of resembles a Chinese guardian lion/lion dog, though at least as far as I can find on Wikipedia, that horn on its forehead (and her mask) are maybe more something attributed to the Japanese equivalent, the Komainu? Not sure I can narrow the theme down more than that right now.

As for Tomoko:

Her hat looks like a bycocket, which given that style's association with Robin Hood and by extension medieval archers in general nowadays, makes me think she might have an overall medieval archer theme going on? What looks like a flowy shirt that she's wearing could support this, though admittedly my first thought with that sort of attire is pirates, so it's possible (if the hat is just cut off weird in this image) that she's actually more of a swashbuckler or even leaning towards a medieval fencer? But if the hat's a bycocket, I'd be surprised if she's not an archer, haha.

And last but not least, this guy:

With that pose, most of the outfit's blocked, and I'm honestly not really sure what to make of it. There's something around their shoulders, which could be armor (especially the higher up silver bit behind their hand), but also could be something like a short shawl, or even just part of a jacket. There appears to be something red on their head that's cut off, which I'm inclined to guess is a hood given the shape and shadow? But as Closer already has a hood, another hooded teammate might be a little redundant, so I'm not entirely sure.

The Rehearsal (part one)

Traipsing through the halls, wandering as he may choose-

For he belonged to the puppet- The Theatre Master's Muse.

Mel wandered through the hallways and listened to his distant laugh as he puttered and fussed with his latest project: props for his next great act.

Echoed footsteps led to the stage doors. Not wanting to disrupt him as he so hated- Mel preoccupied his time with thoughts of his role in the upcoming play.

The play felt too amateurish; A simple love story against all odds. It was a collaboration. Mel's suggestions and plot- his review and revised script.

He adored it surprisingly. Mel felt embarrassed but honoured.

Turning the gilded knob to the most holiest and sacred of platforms-

The Rehearsal: Act One, Scene 1.

Enter Back Stage Left: Mel The Muse

A young adult with dyed magenta hair and indigenous features crosses to stage right and winds the gramophone, the vinyl playing a melodious piece meant to be for the entr'acte.

He then crosses centre stage, looking about the floor with bright and kind yet fierce eyes. There, marked upon the stage were green “X's” of tape to mark the actors places for various scenes.

Mel stood on his “X” and stared across the seats, some occupied by hand sewn plush toys and hand carved puppets- others, empty, waiting for flesh and blood attendants when the doors opened to the public. Warm sunlight filtered down, casting a spotlight on the stage. Mel spoke.

Mel the Thief:

Marked a thief and scoundrel, yet nothing that has passed my fingertips condemns me to be so! I love the fairest maiden, with golden eyes and golden heart and with golden strings to her I am bound. What crime is this? None that no one else has committed to gaze upon her most beauteous face. Yet her father- the King has determined me to be the most cruellest of villains. Have I shed the blood of another or forced the ending of a life? No! Have I stolen treasures or lightened the pocket of anyone? No! Then what am I tried for? Oh what innocent crime! A crime I have worn since my forefathers have lived. For their lack of blue blood- For the price of not bearing a crown by blood or by right, I am a villain!

(Pacing the stage, angry and troubled)

Does the world truly harbour such cruelty against the most honest of feelings? Is justice so swift and true that it has no place for emotion? Why does Clotho bring me this life, Lachesis to bind my thread to hers and unyielding Atropos to cut the same thread prematurely? Oh fates! Fates tie that cut thread together once more and yet let me live to see her again!

Mel buried his face in his hands and wept. He heaved into his palms his sorrows- then stopped.

Mel the Thief:

* with hope* I am not yet dead. That lifeline not severed- yet. “Yet” - Oh lovely word of potential and chance. Of change and of promise. Yet. There is still time yet.

(Sings, gazing upwardly:)

If weavers are to weave and liars are to lie

What more to ask of The Moirai?

Those stoic faces gentle hands may belie

Weave pity for my love and I

For love, gladly, I would bear it to die

But also- to live- I should like to try

Weave pity for my love and I

Enter Fantoccio The Theater Master:

A handsome fellow carved of wood, with golden, sun-glow eyes and a gem of the same luminescence embedded in his chest floated along in the air. Clad in a green poncho with a matching green bycocket hat, adorned with a smart red feather tucked in it's band, he steepled his fingertips together and smiled approvingly at The Muse.

“Rehearsing I see! Excellent- One can't be too well prepared.”

He floated over, golden glow, matching Mel's gaze.

“ Though if I may- A little desperation mixed with despair would give your lyrics more flair- Again Mel.”

And so Mel sang again to his liking this time. Fantoccio listened- eyes closed, discerning pout- he nodded.

“Hrmm. Better.”

“Have you finished your work?” Mel peered up at his beloved.

“For now. I needed some fresh air- and I knew just the Muse to provide it. Shall we?” He gestured to the stage and Mel took his place on the next “X.”

hows the renfaire

Exhausting but very fun, I met a few friends and we hung out for the day, I handed a foam taco to a pirate, and I bought a bycocket hat which complimented my look very nicely (red cloak, black pants, leather shoes, pirate shirt with very flowing sleeves) my friends bought a pipe, and several large refillable glass bottles of root beer.

I remembered that a lot of headwear in Renaissance Germany wasn't just the tellerbarett. Simple hoods were fashion, as was the bycocket (the stereotypical Robin Hood hat), as well as small but comfortable caps worn alone or under other headwear.

In short: I know how to spice up any Free Company Militia models.

Also, since Warhammer is fantasy, nothing wrong with tricorns. Though I do feel that bicorns push it a bit.
