✰ listened to: gold rush - taylor swift
Everyone who works in the music industry knows who he is. Everyone in this room gravitates toward him, like they can’t help themselves—moths drawn to a flame.
You don’t blame them. Not really. You might be more levelheaded than most, a bit more in control of your emotions, but even you have to admit you’re not completely immune to Yoongi’s charms.
You’re surprised he actually came out tonight. Byul, your colleague at the label, had said something about Min Yoongi being here, but everyone always says that—you’ve learned to not put too much stock in it. Lying is the only way to get people to come to these things anymore, PR parties and networking events where the guest lists consist mostly of social climbers and influencers.
Anyway. It’s something about the way he hardly spares anyone a second glance. He straddles the line between insouciant and introverted. Stares down at his phone instead of working the room; finds a quiet spot in the corner and a glass of whiskey instead of making the rounds. You wonder distantly if it’s all just an act. If he knows that his aura of inaccessibility makes people want him more—makes people even more desperate for his attention, however brief.
Something about him tells you that’s not what he’s doing. But you never know.
Still, he’s undeniably beautiful, and he carries himself like he doesn’t know it. You find your eyes wandering to him almost of their own accord—magnetized to his twinkling eyes, the light gloss of his pout. His hair falling perfectly into place over his forehead, swoops of dark ink resting over his ears. The rose blush dusting his cheeks whenever someone approaches him, like he’s embarrassed to be noticed.
Some pretty boy, dressed head-to-toe in flashy streetwear, approaches him. A rookie on your label’s roster, you think—shiny, a little naive, entirely too confident. Shakes Yoongi’s hand, introduces himself, does the whole thing, talks so loud and so fast that everyone at this godforsaken party can hear.
Yoongi bows in greeting. Smiles, engages, laughs when appropriate, and you’re devastated to find his smile is breathtaking. You think he must remember what it was like to be a rookie at the bottom of the food chain. You imagine it makes him want to treat the young ones with tenderness.
Someone calls your name from across the room—Haemin, another colleague of yours, wondering if you want to get a drink with her. Her voice catches Yoongi’s attention, too, and you tear your gaze away from him just as his shifts to you.
You have to walk past him to get to the bar. You try not to flush red at the feeling of his eyes following you.
Later, as the party winds down, he finds you.
You’re only a couple of drinks in. Pleasant, honey-warm, everything blurring together just a bit. The numbers start to dwindle, and at events like this, artists of Yoongi’s caliber don’t last long. They’ll split off to their own, more exclusive events after an hour or two, sick of mingling with people they don’t care to meet.
You should have known Yoongi wouldn’t be like that.
He stays, much longer than he's obligated to. Talks politely to everyone who wants to talk to him. Lingers in the corner of the room, and you tell yourself you must be imagining the way his eyes slide over to you every once in a while.
When you head over to the bar to get one last drink, you’re only a little bit surprised to feel a slight brush at your elbow. Still, you forget all about the drink you’re ordering, forget about the bartender waiting patiently across from you, because Min Yoongi has his hand on your arm and a tiny smile playing on his lips.
“Hi,” he says. “I don’t know if we’ve met. I’m Yoongi.”
It occurs to you that you’ve never seen him approach anyone first. You incline your head in greeting, mouth dry. “I know who you are. I’m Y/N.”
His eyes drop to the lanyard around your neck. “You work for the label? I feel like I’ve seen you around.”
You know he’s just saying it to be nice. Someone like Yoongi must run into dozens of employees a day, if not every hour—dozens of hands helping him out of cars, doing his hair, ushering him to sets, driving him home. You’re just a nondescript face in the crowd. “I do,” you say. “I work for the Public Relations team, actually.”
“Mmm. Is that difficult work?”
“Sometimes, yes.” You grin. “Never when it comes to you, though.” It’s true. Among the artists on your roster, Yoongi is one of the few who manage to stay mostly out of trouble.
“I do my best to behave,” he says, smiling, and it makes you laugh.
You get your drink, migrate with him to the corner he’d been sitting in earlier. Relax a bit when you realize that he isn’t awkward, nor standoffish, nor trying to get rid of you. In fact, he’s… kind. Humble, but not in a grating way. Easy to talk to. He asks you about your work, about life. You don’t know if you get a single chance to ask him about himself, because all he wants to talk about is you.
Unexpected, you think. In a good way.
Eventually, though, you get kicked out. The music cuts out, the bar closes up. The lights flicker on for the cleanup crew, and Yoongi’s face comes into sharp relief, eyes gleaming. The harsh fluorescent lights take nothing away from his beauty.
“Want to get out of here?” he asks.
You have half a mind to say yes. It would be so easy. You could talk to him forever, about anything. Could fall in love with him so easy, too. You imagine your t-shirt hanging from his door. Dinner parties. Trips to the shore.
And then you pause.
Because falling for someone as famous and beloved as Min Yoongi, you decide, must feel like flying. That is, until you’re crashing into the ground. Everything broken, bones crushed, only hurt left in its wake.
You see sinking ships in his eyes, and you realize you’ve let yourself get too close to jumping in.
“I… can’t,” you say softly. “I’m sorry.”
There's a flicker of something on his face, but he seems to understand. You don’t imagine he gets rejected often, but to his credit, he stands up. Offers you his hand. “Then… can I at least give you a lift home?”
You smile. Nod. Take his hand.
You tell yourself that even if the possibilities have gone gray with reality, you can let yourself have this moment.
Even if you’ll forever wonder what it’s like to love him, you can indulge in this one little thing.

My favorite drama couples
In no particular order and some minor SPOILER warning!) → Feel free to add your own favorite couples to the post, so we can share the love.
Sh**ting Stars (Oh Han-byul / Gong Tae-sung):
Tumblr media
They are one of my absolute favorite couples in any drama I’ve watched so far. I don’t know what it is about them, but they are just so good together! (And it doesn’t hurt that the actors have an amazing chemistry). Enemies to lovers is a guilty pleasure trope for me, and this does it perfectly – they bicker so much in the beginning, but slowly realize that they actually make a great team, and they come to rely on each other a lot. They actually communicate properly, sharing their worries without being judged, and the drama never relies on something as silly as miscommunication as a point of drama for them. It’s not often a drama makes me actually smile like a complete lovesick idiot when watching, but this just goes straight to my heart. The drama might not be my fave overall, as it has its own issues, but I’ll watch it 100 times over for them.
Hidden Love (Sang Zhi / Duan Jiaxu):
Tumblr media
At first, I didn’t think I was going to like this drama too much as I was unsure about the whole age gap thing, but oh my word. This drama had me giggling like a teenager with a crush, and I was unable to stop smiling for most of it. They are so stinking cute together, and the fact that they actually communicate their thoughts and feelings with each other throughout it all is so important – especially with how their relationship started. I feel like I’m just repeating myself from what I said about Sh**ting Stars, but both of these couples just make me happy to watch. This relationship in particular has raised my standards so high, I’m probably going to end up single for the rest of my life. This drama really is all it’s hyped up to be and more.
Happiness (Yoon Sae-bom / Jung Yi-hyun):
Tumblr media
A fake marriage of convenience between two best friends, who both secretly have feelings for each other ?- sign me the fuck up. Two strong people who support each other through everything (in this case, an outbreak of zombies in their complex) – what more could you ask for? They just get each other, and both are willing to walk through hell and back for the other. We sadly don’t actually get to see them together all that much after they’ve finally confessed, but they acted like a couple anyway, so I’m not too sad about it.
Fight For My Way (Ko Dong-man / Choi Ae-ra):
Tumblr media
They have known each other for so long and, though they bicker, they are always the first to defend the other no matter what. They support each other’s dreams the best they can (though Ae-ra does have a problem with the fighting, and she tries to make him quit by making him choose between her and fighting, which I am not about, but I do get she’s just scared he’ll get hurt again). Either way, there is just something so pure about their love and the way they both slowly realize just what their feelings have evolved into as they grew up together.
Doom at your service (Doom / Tak Dong-kyung):
Tumblr media
These two had a rocky start, but I also feel like it only made them work better as a couple. The iconic lines: “So my plan is to love you, then I'll be able to live without losing anything.” / “Then let's do it right, love me to the point that you want to destroy the world for me.” are forever ingrained in my mind. It’s about both of them learning what life could actually be if you let yourself feel and live for yourself instead of living for everyone else. They help each other through it all until they both realize they deserve love, and I find that really beautiful.

i've seen some other people do this, so let me share some songs that remind me of catradora.
Adora's POV:
“Her eyes and words are so icy
Oh but she burns
Like rum on the fire
Hot and fast and angry as she can be
I walk my days on a wire.”
[…]
The way she shows me I'm hers and she is mine
Open hand or closed fist would be fine
Blood is rare and sweet as cherry wine.”
— Cherry Wine, Hozier
“L-O-V-E damn 4 letters
You sugar-coat it with L-O-V-E every time
Selfish, I will never be enough
Even when I pour out all of myself for you.
[…]
As long as you love me
The good or the ugly
Everything is alright
It’s like you control me
Without you I’m lonely
But you don't feel the same.”
— Gunshot, KARD
“You said it was true love, but wouldn't that be hard?
You can't love anyone cause that would mean you had a heart
I tried you help you out, now I know that I can't
Cause how you think's the kind of thing I'll never understand.
[…]
I used to think I was smart
But you've made me look so naive
The way you sold me for parts
As you sunk your teeth into me.”
— Vampire, Olivia Rodrigo
“You only think of yourself
As if that’s natural
I’ve been foolish enough to try to please you
It tortures me, keeping me lonely till the end.
[…]
I have to adjust to you
Every time, that’s okay
It repeats like this every day
If you're taking advantage of my kindness
There's something wrong with that.”
— Egotistic, MAMAMOO
“The stars, the moon
They have all been blown out
You've left me in the dark
No dawn, no day
I'm always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart
[…]
I took the stars from my eyes and then I made a map
And knew that somehow I could find my way back
Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too
So I stayed in the darkness with you.”
— Cosmic Love, Florence + The Machine
“Hey girl, wake up
There are better people out there
But even though he acts like that
There's still some good in him.
[…]
So foolish, I'm being manipulated
So stupid, should I break up or…?
This is the end, yes, bye bye
I want to say it but I can't
I'm frustrated but I'm stuck on you
I'm still into you.”
— TRAP, AAA (Misako & Chiaki)
(just replace “he” with “she”)
“I can’t stop, I found you
But feels like I’m the only one who feels this way, it makes me mad
I don’t understand
But hurting this much? I’m used to it
[…]
Don’t pity me, no, do as you always did
Because that’s you
Even if you break my heart
And spit out careless words
It’s only you for me.
[…]
I don’t want to be obvious
What if you think I’m weak?
I’m so pathetic, pathetic.”
— Love & Hate / Worthless, Moon Byul
“If it was for you I could
Pretend to be happy even when I was sad
If it was for you I could
Pretend to be strong even when I was hurting
[…]
Love you so bad
I molded a pretty lie for you
Love it's so mad
Try to erase myself and make me your doll.”
— Fake Love, BTS
“I’m falling endlessly
And you’re playing with me
You got me losing my mind, you intruder
It’s so dangerous I want it
Even if it costs all the pain.
[…]
Oh god, why are you leading me into temptation? Is it a call from hell?
Can’t stop, how am I going to escape from her?
The self-control you gave me has torn in pieces in the dark black hole
Can’t control myself, it’s like sugarcoated poison.”
— Oh My God, (G)I-DLE
“My sensitivity making me tense
Your honesty stabbing my heart
Why does this only apply to me? It’s too unfair
[…]
I’m not easy I hate that
I adjusted to you
I loved you more than me.”
— Easy, Wheein
Catra's POV:
“I'm breaking every rule
I want to keep tormenting you
[…]
Hate me as you want, I don't care
The more you break, the more you'll want me.
[…]
I swear I need you, my desires are growing
I’m playing with you like a kid
Hovering like your shadow and whispering to you
I’m your light and your darkness.”
— 28 Reasons, Kang Seulgi
“I don't want none, I just want you
If I can't have you, no one should
[…]
I might kill my ex, I still love him though
Rather be in hell than alone.
[…]
Now I'm in the basement, planning home invasion
Now you laying face-down, got me singing over a beat.”
— Kill Bill, SZA
“I’m creepin’ in your heart, babe
I’ll flip you over, break you down and swallow you up
I’ll steal you and indulge in you
I’m gonna mess you up
[…]
I’m a bit impatient
I’m not that gentle (I hated you)
But I want you
That’s right, my type
My heart doesn’t lie.”
— Monster, EXO
“You fuel my jealousy
Growing everyday
Following your shadow
I’m with you, in every breath you take.
[…]
Call me evil
I'll show you more
I get what I want,
but I can't get enough.”
— Propose, Dreamcatcher

Sh**ting Stars is the best show! I think my favourite part was that it had so many side characters and I actually liked all of them. The three female friends all have partners by the end, including the Second Male Lead who ended up happy for once (the lawyer), which was great. The young couple that got married was cute too.
There were so many good friendships! And good colleagues who supported each other. It felt very warm and fuzzy even in the sad parts
Tumblr media
I was very happy that after the serious bit about Gong Tae-sung's mom and their friend's suicide that it got right back to shenanigans. The banter and antics were hilarious. Tae-sung was so ridiculous but also cute. He managed to be a very lovable jerk. Oh Han-byul was great too, very competent and cute.
The Africa stuff was somewhat cringy, but otherwise, highly recommend!

My Princess
so just a lil fic for pride month because i didnt wanna not post anything bc genuinely, its always a win when we're able to express our love openly. it's just sad that its still frowned upon by a lotta people. anyway, i hope you all enjoy!! pirate captain!moon byuli x royaly!reader disclaimer/s : not much, some blood
Tumblr media
Your kingdom housed three types of people. You and your father, the monarchs, overseeing everything in terms of economics, civility within the premises of the land, and the needs of the people. Highest tiered people. The citizens, cogs in the inner-makings of the kingdom. Without them your father would have no one to care for or rule over.
Then there was them...the pirates.
While more often than not, they only cause mild damages to public property and are rarely around anyway, it didn't matter to you. You loathed them. You often listened to the plights of the townspeople in hopes of bettering the flourishing country your father reigned over and some pirates were on the top of their concerns.
You'd heard tales of the captain being a smooth talker and a sight to behold but you'd never had the opportunity to meet them yourself.
Until your father invited them to the palace.
"I don't understand, father. They are nothing but trouble." You reasoned while his attendants dressed him for the captain and their crew. Your father smiled warmly, dismissing those around him before he walked up to you. "It is my job to keep the peace. Coming to an amicable agreement is the only way to make sure nothing dire will occur."
He places a hand delicately on your head, stroking your hair lovingly, "You'll understand when you're queen, Y/n." You nod solemnly, before fixing the coat draped over your father's shoulders. "For now though, best foot forward...For my sake."
Now, you fully intended to be on your best behavior. But your skin crawled when one of the servants informed you and your father that the pirates have arrived at the palace step.
You and the King sat patiently in the banquet hall awaiting the arrival of your guests. It had been a while of you waiting when you leaned over to your father, boldly joking, "They've navigated oceans, you'd expect they can navigate a palace." Your father's stoic expression faltered, a small smile growing.
"Clever girl, my princess..." A silky smooth voice of a woman echoed through the grandiose room. You smoothened your posture, returning to your gaze firmly to the front of the room. In struts a pale raven-haired woman in a white, tattered shirt and a blue overcoat, hat covering her facial features. Her brown thigh-high leather boots heavily pounding on the tiled floor.
Your father arose, "It is a pleasure to meet you in the flesh captain Byul." The captain removed her hat, exposing her scared face. She offered the older man a wide smile before bowing. "Your Majesty."
'The captain is a woman' You thought quietly to yourself, your eyes lingering over the seemingly strong and rugged pirate captain. You couldn't help but observe her features, she was definitely attractive, the stories got that right at the very least.
It surprised you that she seemed incredibly sculpted compared to what you thought the pirate captain would look like. A soft clearing of the throat pulled your attention back to the woman before you. A flush coated your cheeks before your posture tensed.
A cocky smirk grew on the woman's lips. "It's an honor to be in your presence, your Majesty." The meeting is soon under way, with some crew members scowling each time your father spoke, only furthering your anger towards these pirates.
Of course, Captain Byul keeps them in line but sniggers quietly when your father begins a new talking point for peace on the land. You can't keep your eyes off her. You can't figure out if it is your distrust in the pirate or the way her dark locks sway as she moves, the way her lips look so lush, or mayhaps its the way her dark gaze falls upon you leaving your knees weak.
You shook your head, removing such sapphic thoughts from your mind. She was a woman...and a pirate at that. You couldn't let your guard down.
Later in the meeting, your father invited Captain Byul and her quartermaster, Wheein, to a ball he organized for the people to celebrate the harvest to which she happily agreed to. Before you knew it, the meeting was over and the Captain arose to bow to your father and yourself.
"Until we meet again, my lady." Byul husked making you gasp quietly, she smirked and walked away with a self-satisfied grin, her crew seemingly not as happy as she was.
Night fell quickly and the ball was soon in full swing, drinks being passed around and hearty chatter being thrown around. Usually, you'd be with the citizens, enjoying their company but you chose to sit beside your father that night.
You scowled from your place beside your father, swirling the drink you were served as you watching your father's...guest...strut about the ballroom, earning glances from other members of the court. Your blood boiled as a particular pirate captain stared and smirked at you from across the room before she continued to flirt with a flower shop keeper who giggled and pushed her shoulder playfully.
Noticing your furrowed brows, your father took your hand in his gently. You turned to face him with an affectionate yet tired smile which he returned. "Lighten up, my child. It's a party after all. Drink, eat, dance!" He said jovially, motioning for the maestro to raise the volume of the instruments. You laughed delicately before shaking your head.
Before you could get a response in, her irritatingly smooth voice caught both you and the king's attention. "Your Majesty." Captain Byul bowed dramatically, pulling her hat off her head. The scowl on your face returned as you stared at her, only making her smirk widen.
"Captain! I trust you are enjoying the pleasantries of the evening." The pirate captain nodded, looking around the well-decorated ballroom. "It has been a lovely evening, your Majesty but it does not hold a candle to the taverns." Your father chuckled softly before Byul added, "I hope to see you there one of these days."
You mustered a dry, sarcastic laugh, earning a stern look from your father. You adjusted your posture before the captain moved to turn to you, bowing to honor you. "Princess..." She offered her hand to you, awaiting your hand. You sent a harsh glare her way before your father finally intervened, "Y/n." He muttered sternly.
Reluctantly, you gave her your hand, never breaking eye contact with her. A warm feeling rushing through you as her lips made contact with the back of your hand, intense gaze falling into yours once again. It was the same gaze as the first time you'd met her earlier in the day.
You regained your composure and snatched your hand away quickly, making the captain chuckle softly, straitening her back. "I wanted to inform you personally your Majesties that the crew and I agree to your offer. On my honor, no one shall harm this kingdom and its citizens." Byul announced, the smile on her face never wavering. You sucked your teeth classlessly before retorting, "If you had any honor, captain."
Your father looked at you with a deep frown while the pirate could only laugh heartily. "You have the sharpest tongue on any lass I've come to know, my lady."
"She gets it from her mother, I apologize, Captain." Your father says offering Byul an apologetic smile. She raises her hand while shaking her head. "It is no trouble, sir. I've met many a lass who've hurt me more. But might I ask a favor in return, your Majesty?" He grins, amused, motioning for the young woman to continue.
"Might I ask your clever daughter for a dance?" Your head twisted at an astronomical level to look at the Captain who wore a wicked smile on her face before your father laughed, throwing his head back. "As you wish, Captain Byul. So long as you bring her back in one piece."
"I'd never hurt her, your Majesty."
"It's not her I'm worried about, Captain."
Byul laughs and puts her hand out for you to take. You look to your father appalled to which he nods to the pirate. You grumble curses to yourself before heavily giving your hand to Byul.
The maestro begins instructing a waltz, and the young woman bowed, honoring you yet her eyes never left yours again. The intensity of her stare alone made you blush, and that blatant fact made her very, very happy.
She takes your waist in your arms, guiding you around the ballroom. Elegantly twirling you around as you wore an indecipherable expression. Finally breaking the silence, Byul whispered, "You know you don't have to worry about my presence, Y—"
You threw daggers her way, "Princess Y/n to you, Captain."
She smiled charmingly again before tilting her head, silently conceding the argument. "My princess." She teasingly retorted making you roll your eyes. "You don't have to worry about us anymore. I assure you myself that I will not let any harm come to you and your people."
Your brows soften a little before you breath out a sigh. "If you do anything to hurt my people or my father, I will sink your boat myself." Abruptly, she dips you and her face is mere centimetres away from yours, making your breath hitch.
She lifts you up, her gaze flicking from your eyes to your lips, the grin on her face melted away, in its place was a stern expression, making your heart leap out of your chest. "I promise, my princess."
You clear your throat and flash her a nervous smile, "Good. Thank you, Captain." She nods while chuckling. "It's no trouble, my lady."
It was a surprise to nobody but you when Captain Byul began sending you missives and escorting you around town when she could. It was very obvious that there was incredibly strong connection began to form from the night of the ball.
While some elders and court members scoffed and said it was a sign of a curse entering the town when the pirates did, your father didn't really care all too much. Which silenced the voices of the disapproving townsfolk.
One day, you walked around the town, listening to the gripes of the townspeople to report to your father. A young baker in particular who say that other pirates have become more rowdy around the shops in spite of their captain's warnings. As you listened to the young man's story, you saw a familiar pirate walk out of the tavern. Your eyes perked up until you saw how distraught she seemed. You tilt your head to the side, excusing yourself from the young man you were speaking with.
You follow the pirate captain until you are near the entrance of the palace, right at the last house in the town. There you see Byul nibbling on the pad of her finger, looking out to the ocean. You shoved her shoulder gently making her turn and look at you, eyes sharp and prepared to fight.
"Calm yourself, Captain." Upon hearing your voice and seeing your face, her expression morphed into a more playful one. "My Princess." She took your hand and lay a quick kiss on the back of it. You smiled before attempting to pull your hand back to no avail as her touch lingered longer than usual. Your pulse hammered when she did before she chuckled to herself and released you. "To what do I owe the pleasure, my lady?"
"I was doing my rounds and well..." You trailed of before the captain cocked her head curiously. "...You seem troubled, captain. What seems to be the matter?" You ask cautiously to not offend or throw the young woman off.
She looks around cautiously and motioned you closer. "You see my princess..." You couldn't help the smile on your face when you heard the pet name. It started off as irritating but it has steadily grown on you. Byul notices your little smile and swoons briefly before continuing. "I've heard wind of some of my crew being unhappy with the union we've agreed on with your father..."
You both stare at each other for a moment before she finishes, "A mutiny may come to pass. And I fear for your safety." Again, she raises her head to look at you. Eyes smoldering and expression worrisome.
"Why me?" You ask confused, sure you were the only one in the line of succession but your father could always assign someone new. Byul's eyes downcast. "They know how important you are to your father, to the town..." She trails off before she reaches for your hand discreetly, "...to me."
You bit your lip before tightening your grip around the pirate's hand. "I'll be fine captain, no one will get past the guarded keep of the palace. I can assure you that much."
Rather carelessly, and in your own panic, you lean up and place your lips delicately over Byul's porcelain skin before placing a hand on her chest. The pirate's lips upturn into a wide and uncontrollable smile making you giggle before turning a heel and returning to the palace.
As you walk away, in spite of Byul's shock and butterflies, she notices one of her crew members hanging around nearby. She bites her tongue, waiting for you to be safely behind the castle gate, her hand never leaving her sword's hilt. Finally, the gates open then close upon your entering. The captain's eyes flick to where her crew member once stood to see he'd disappeared.
"That can't be good..." She mutters to herself before rushing to her ship to rally her quartermaster to see ensure you and the King's safety.
You decided to take a stroll in the gardens, think about the state of the kingdom and your increasingly unavoidable feelings for the Captain. She was kind, gentle, intelligent, and so much fun to be around. It may have crossed your mind what it would feel like to have her lips on yours but you didn't want to disappoint your father by not providing an heir, leaving the kingdom at risk of colonisation.
You simply wanted what was best for the people. In your deep thought, you didn't hear the sound of a body colliding with the ground. You look up to the sky, the very tip of Byul's pirate ship waving in the distance. Which you found odd, they weren't meant to sail until next week.
"Y/n!" Captain Byul's voice made your head turn instantly, only to see a silver blade coming your way. The pirate captain drew her own blade, narrowly saving you from getting cut. Her crew member sneered at Byul before she shoved the man onto the ground. He drops his sword and grits his teeth before the woman steps on his chest. She bore her sword in his face with a stoic expression. "Give me one reason not to kill you." Her voice was chilling.
The man is gobsmacked and sputters out incoherently. She sneers before sheathing her sword again, lifting her foot to release him. "Get out of my sight." He pushes himself off the ground before Byul turns around to make sure you were okay.
She holds your face delicately, hair a little disheveled likely from the run there. Her quartermaster following right behind. "The traitors have been rounded up Captain."
Byul nodded, not letting her eye stray from you. "Round them on the ship, we put them to trial in the morning." She said quickly before Wheein nodded and left you two alone, not before quipping, "And I am unharmed as well by the way, Byuli. Thanks for asking."
It wasn't long until you two were alone. "I didn't think they'd attack today. My humblest apologize, my princess." There it was again, and it made the butterflies in your stomach flutter uncontrollably before you lay your forehead on hers, nuzzling your nose against Byul's. "It wasn't your fault, Byul."
"That's the first time you've ever said my name, Princess..." She noted, the brightness on her face growing tenfold.
The moment would have lasted forever until she heard it. The familiar cocking of a gun. Byul's eyes shot open and immediately she turned to see the man she'd just faced off with. "Traitorous, princess loving bitch!"
She moved quickly, the bullet grazing her shoulder, making her grunt in pain before she drew her sword and bolted forward. "Graaah!"
Byul grunted before the metal clanged together, in her haste though she was unable to create enough momentum to overpower him, giving him the upper hand. He stood over Byul, swinging his sword to meet her leg making her howl in pain.
She drops her blade before the now-ex crewmate kicks it foolishly in your direction. The shock you felt immediately wears off as you pick up the sword and look at the distracted man. Flinching as his fist collided with the young woman's cheek harshly. "I always knew you'd be too weak to be captain. Too naive. Too fucking lustful."
You carelessly thrust the blade forward, breaking the skin of the man's arm. He falls to the side, wailing and cursing at you. "You sapphic, evil, bitch! You will not get away with this!"
"Just did." You retort before pulling Byul onto your shoulder and drag her into the gardener's shed for safety. You prop her up against the wall before barricading the both of you to ensure both your safety. You pant and attempt to center yourself before you remember that Byul is injured.
You hastily look around for a clean rag which to your luck there was one. She grunts as you press the bleeding wound with a cloth hastily and rather indelicately. "Maybe be a little gentler with that, I just got slashed open." Byul jokingly reminded but her jovial tone of voice shifted as she saw you stifling your sobs while tending to her wound.
"Hey, hey, hey, what're these tears, lovely?" You shook your head, wiping your tears back with the sleeve of your dress. She adjusts herself, groaning softly to which a panicked expression grows on your face. Her hand gently falls onto your cheek, stroking away the tears falling when the realization hits her. Byul's expression softens as you finally allow the tears to flow freely. "You're alright...no one's going to hurt you, princess..."
You shook your head, pulling her hat off her head before brushing Byul's hair back tenderly as you wiped some of the blood off of her forehead. You released a breathe you'd been holding. "Never put yourself at risk like that for me..."
The captain smiled and took your hand in hers, pressing her chapped lips to each knuckle, delicately stroking the back of your hand. "I would put my life on the line for you in every instance I could, my princess." You released a laugh gently while tears fell.
Your mind begged you not to do it, you were the princess, the heir to the throne. But you could no longer hold back with Byul's lips so close to yours, looking so irresistible. The distance finally dawning on the pirate captain, her pale cheeks flushed but she tried to maintain her composure.
"What's going on in that pretty little mind...?" You rolled your eyes before taking her cheeks in your hands gently as to not hurt her and pressing your lips onto hers. The taste of rum lingering on her tongue, making you smile into the kiss. You pull away to see Byul with her eyes closed, panic starts to fill you.
"Shit did I kill her?" Her eyes shot open and let out a soft gasp before bursting into fits of laughter. "I got the princess to cuss! Yeeee-agh!" You pressed the cloth over her wound down a little harder.
"You, Captain Byul, are the worst." With a dopey yet smug grin, she leans forward catching your lips between hers, it was quick but it still made your heart race unconventionally fast.
The smile grew toothier when she whispered, "And you are mine, now Princess Y/n."

Years ago Hwasa and Moonbyul taught the girls one of the most important signals. Not for the academy, just for their little family. “A slight tug on the ear means goodbye for now, but not forever.” This was usually used before last minute deployment missions from the academy. Though this time the situation was different, the women knew the girls they raised. They knew after their kids spent three days wrapped in their mothers' arms, allowing silent tears to come out in the dead of night, it was only a matter of time.
The twins weren’t going to just sit around and blindly follow the rules, they were raised to question everything and trust no one but themselves. That’s what makes them the best at what they do. That’s also what made using this signal for the last time so hard.
After the Gala both girls returned in much better spirits to their shared quarters within the Academy’s staff housing. Hwasa and Moonbyul stayed up waiting to hear all about the gala.
When they entered their shared suite, Hwasa noted Yura’s arm looped through her sisters, happy that the two were starting to mend their relationship. The girls both share a smile before noticing their awaiting parents on the other side of the door.
“Hi, Eomma.” Yura says with a tipsy smile as her eyes land on Moonbyul.
The soft, nurturing term only leaves Yura’s lips when she needs Byul as her mom more than her mentor. This caused both of the older women to raise a suspicious eyebrow in surprise at Rina.
“We had a little fun towards the end of the night…” Rina mentions with a hint of sadness that they frown at instantly.
Yura kicks off her heels as she follows a retreating Moonbyul into their attached kitchenette, no doubt getting her child some water and hangover relief to drink before bed.
“Eomma~ help me take my dress off, it's suffocating me!” Yura’s slurred whines can be heard throughout the entire suite as she begins to claw at her dress.
     “Yah! Get off the floor!”
Tumblr media
After sobering Yura up a bit, the four migrated into the twins' bedroom, chatting quietly.
As the girls discussed the night they were quite careful about what they shared, never knowing who was listening, especially in their suite. They stood in front of two long mirrors as their respective mother figures helped undress them, soaking in their last moments of peace with their little dysfunctional family.
Hwasa and Moonbyul had genuine smiles as they chatted lightly before finally glancing in the mirrors at their daughters. Only for the two to meet them in their eyes, each tugging lightly on their earlobes.
Yura couldn’t help it as a tear betrayed her, slipping down her cheek. The older women shared a knowing glance at each other before continuing their conversation. Always aware of the ears listening at all times.
Tumblr media
It was a bittersweet moment, the women stayed in the girls’ shared room longer than usual, helping them remove their makeup, putting the dresses away. Spending as much time together as possible before their final goodbye. Even tucking them into their beds one last time. Their once 7 year old little girls are now 20, grown up and doing what they couldn’t, and both women couldn’t be prouder of them.
Moonbyul kisses Yura’s head as she begins to stand up, her own tear falling before hugging her daughter close: the two are similar in how much emotion they display, little to none. However in the quiet quarters of their room, Yura is still the scared 7 year old child that Moonbyul would rock to sleep in her arms. The child who would draw her and Moonbyul holding hands while fighting the bad guys, her little firecracker.  She knew Yura could handle herself and she’d find her way back eventually, but the departure still hurts nonetheless.
Hwasa holds Rina's hand as she discusses random moments from her history class with her current students. Her hand reaches out and cups her cheek gently as they continue their conversation. Reminding herself of the pep talks that they would always give each other when they were frustrated, whether it be Hwasa’s missions or Rina’s combat training. She also takes a moment and glances at Yura remembering how little they were when they went through their first obstacle together, and how strong they were for each other.
"They will be okay," she tells herself.
Although she knows by their faces it’ll be a while until they will be a little family again, as long as they have each other they will be okay.
“Morning practice is at 8:30. Don’t forget.” Hwasa says as she and Moonbyul stand up from the girls beds and head to the door.
They both glance back at their girls, no longer their babies, but strong beautiful women who have a job to do. They tug their earlobes together knowing they will be long gone in the morning, and the girls return it.
Goodbye for now, but not forever.
Tumblr media
It’s not uncommon for the Choi’s to be up at 5:00 am. Yura usually drags Rina out for a morning run before their practices with the first years’ athletics class. So when they awake, they move as if it’s their normal routine. Shower, change, make the bed. Although this time, this is a room they won’t be coming back too. Yura thinks to take some memories with her but she knows it’ll only slow them down and they need to be out of District 9 in the next few hours.
The girls' goodbyes last night were emotional to say the least and they both shed some tears silently, but that's all they could allow themselves. Now it’s mission mode. They’re usually carrying a backpack when they walk the halls, their usual teacher attire for the rest of the day inside. this time their bags are empty minus a few snacks to keep them energized during their journey.
Rina is the first to be dressed. Black leggings and a simple cropped t-shirt. Her usual weapons are secured in holsters on her sides and thigh just like her sisters. With Yura in a similar outfit, they both throw their hair in ponytails and exit their home for the last time. They’ll be moving fast today so they need to be ready for anything. As they strap their backpacks on they share a hopeful glance.
This is it.
They won’t make it to their meeting point with the others until a day or two from now, depending on how fast they travel. The academy will know they're gone no later than 8:00 pm tonight. So it’s best to move now, and they do. They take their normal route down the halls and out the academy gym doors. They begin a slight jog along their usual trail making small talk as some cameras around the perimeter of the building are on. As their jog goes through the forest behind the academy’s estate away from every camera in sight, that’s when they run.
They loop around and cover their tracks swiftly and quietly as they make the beginning of their long journey through the woods together.
Tumblr media
It’s 6:00 pm when they make it two districts over, it’s still not far enough. Two more hours and then the real chase begins. They stop at a clear stream and fill the water bottles in their bags, each of them taking a granola bar out to eat as they navigate through the darkening woods.
“Tree tonight?” Yura questions Rina silently, both girls' minds racing and on high alert.
“If we make it to the coast by 12…” she glances at her watch. “...Changbin should be waiting to take us across with food hopefully… But if not, yeah, a tree sounds good.”
FB
“The first step of the plan is to make it over to the neighboring country and lay low for a couple months to a year. Once we receive news that the scouts from 2ne1 have started searching outside the country, that’s when we head back and begin step 2, slowly. step by step.”
Chan sits across from them with a map, showing the girls the different stops they could make on their way out. The only downside to that idea would be that they could only stay for a maximum of 3 hours before they have to move again.
“Minho has been gathering supplies to leave at each place for us tonight. We can leave some things there if you plan to take those routes but,” he pauses to glance at them.
“If you want to be safe, I say you should skip the stops altogether and try to make it to the coast as soon as possible. Changbin will be there to take you across the border to one of the stops on the way to China.”
“We’ll do that. We’re not risking getting caught so early, and it’s best if we avoid leaving clues as to which direction we’re headed.” Rina says firmly, in which her sister nods her head in agreement.
“We’ll be across the border by tonight, hopefully getting your last whereabouts erased from the internet.”
Yura glances over the map and frowns.
“How are we supposed to communicate with you so you know we’re on the move?”
     “You won’t be… but.”
Minho silently pulls out two simple tennis bracelets: one gold and one silver.
“Jisung has embedded trackers as well as health monitors in these. We’ll know where you're going and be able to keep close watch on the both of you if anything happens, as long as you keep these on. Communication is tricky because once they know you’re gone. They’ll check every radio frequency in the country.”
“Never heard him talk that much.” Yura mumbles to Rina not-so-silently.
“Just wear the damn bracelets.” Minho snaps, tossing them to each girl. Yura allows the smallest smirk onto her face as she fastens the silver one to her wrist.
EOFB
Rina sits silently by the bank of the stream, the reflection of her gold bracelet bounces across her eye briefly, as she turns her attention to the dainty piece of jewelry, her mind drifting off to the man who gave it to her. His confession still replays in her brain on loop. His awkwardness and honesty threw her at first, but his words also ignited something in her that she had no idea was there. She always thought the opportunity to form an actual relationship was never going to be in the cards for her. Yes, she slept around here and there, but between classes, work, and regular deployments, she never stayed with anyone long enough to get to that point.
And with just a few words in that stupid Australian accent, Bangchan has her considering the impossible…
“What?” Yura’s voice questions her sister, pulling Rina out of her own thoughts. “Your face is doing that scrunched up thing like you need to shit,” her explanation holds no emotion, and neither do her facial features.
Rina is quick to roll her eyes before landing on Yura’s curious brown ones. Mending whatever they went through was a must for the two, and the first step would be to learn how to trust one another again.
“Chan confessed.” Rina stated plainly, standing up from her squatting position and walking over to her sister, ready to keep going.
Yura stands as well, dusting off her butt and falling into a synchronized walk with her sister deeper into the woods, shifting the occasional branch out of their path as they move.
“Finally. I really thought that we’d never see the day.”
“His timing was absolute shit, but–”
     “But you’re still considering it?”
Rina stops for a moment, running her fingers over the cool metal of the bracelet, looking at Yura still walking up ahead, before continuing to follow behind her.
“Honestly, he’s probably the only person in the whole District that can handle you. He’s not above you in rank, using his power to intimidate you, and he’s also not below you sucking up and being annoying. I say you give him a chance. I mean… you’ll have nothing but time for the next 4 years.”
Though her delivery lacked her usual wittiness and sarcastic charm from before, Rina knows Yura still meant every word. With Rina and Chan side-by-side, she knew they’d be an unstoppable force that’d be a nice advantage for what's to come in their future. Plus, she still felt bad about the last time she gave Rina relationship advice, though she doesn’t regret it, Yura knows she would have handled it better if the circumstances were different.
“Since when were you such an expert on relationships?” The eldest Choi chuckles, trying to break the suffocatingly serious aura between them.
“I’m not. I’m just an expert on all things ChanRina.” She responds, shoulder bumping her partner with a smirk.
     “ChanRina?”
“It’s your ship name. Me and Hanji have been working on it for a few years now. It was either that or ChristopheRina.” She shrugs casually like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Get it? Because it sounds like Christopher Robin.” Yura glances at her sister in hopes of getting a smile on her face. Only to be met with a blank stare.
“I think you should stick with the first one.”
     “That’s fair.”
“Does this mean the ships gonna sail?” Yura smirks amusedly, while Rina can’t hide her smile as she shakes her head at her sister's teasing.

BOYS PLANET 1212
From the get go, Boys Planet looked to be a disaster: postponement, changes of plans, and the legacy of Girls Planet 999′s already lukewarm reception and results, plethora of scandals, on top of the history of Mnet survivals not being quite reassuring as for what this one would be. They didn’t even have Yeo Jingoo as their MC anymore so what even was the point for me to watch, right? Well I like bad reality TV, and if the show forewent it’s predecessor’s clunky numbers, it was not merely because they cleaned themselves off the unpromised implication that ‘999′ offered, that being of parity in it’s final lineup’s nationalities- but because had they to pick one to represent the cast of 98 boys (95 by the time of announcement and 93 when the first episode released, once more, a good sign that this was going to be a Very Well Made Show), it’d have to be 1212, for Dozens of Dozens.
Tumblr media
A bit of context for newcomers and unknowers as I’ll be mentioning the title a surprisingly low but still relevant amount of time.
From the day the fancams for the ‘Here I Am’ Signal song were uploaded, the word bounced around my brain, with cruel glee: these guys were just not good. At the same time, knowledge of how things were handled with Produce and “Not Produce we swear it’s different” shows did keep me back from immediatly dismissing about 85 boys from being of any respectable skill: if Boys Planet was anything like it’s elders, these guys likely had at most a week to learn a choreography and song, on their own, with little group rehearsals. The mere inability to judge what some steps were meant to look like given how varied the executions were across contestants said it all: they were given no teacher, likely the dance “teacher” and judge responsible for that atrocity of a dance routine showed up once, stayed an hour, and then left them to their own device (and watching episode 2, it is indeed basically what happened. When most of the rehearsal footage is just the kids by themselves teaching each other, the title of “Master” is to put into question: you’re not their masters so much as their executioner).
So I awaited the actual episodes, to see the surprises, or even just the bad dancers who were here as vocalists.
Which to be honest, was a mistake on my part, expecting vocalists was to lobotomise myself, out of the knowledge of the sad state of this industry, the one that we could nearly say this show satirises: Boys Planet isn’t a survival as much as it is a long winded performance art piece meant to criticise 4,5th gen Kpop. And so it was with equality little and great surprise that the Auditions were the same as the Fancams, only this time both eyes AND ears got to suffer the same pains.
(I ran out of embed spots- you only get 5??- so you’ll unfortunately have to click links for most of the video evidence of my claims. Very sorry about that. Prommy I didn’t intend for only the Worse- and Hui’s feast- to be visible but it IS funny).
Where are the standards of casting?
But Signal song fancams aren’t meant to be good. As stated before, they’re a bad metric of talent, or of potential even, as both song and dance are learnt in a hurry, with hardly any mentoring outside of Lim Han Byul disregarding all decency as a human being to instead have his “bullying children” segment. Moreso, a dance focused fancam does not help display the skills of vocalists, so while I did rank all of the Here I Am videos, I was waiting for the audition performances, or Star Level to truly pick out who were the trainees deserving of my attention. Still, the combination of how little candidates truly shone through their fancams, the lukewarm interest sparked by the 1mn PR videos and the trainee profiles, with their citations of way too many symbols of kpop’s downfall as for the standards of performance- not citing names as I do like the state of my life and witness protection would take all of that fun away from me- I had little hopes for what was to come, which did protect me: I was at least not disappointed in expecting nothing.
The performances aired for the first episode were highly enjoyable, in a Schadenfreude kind of way: the ones that were bad were Bad bad, to the point of hilarity: I had legitimate tears in my eyes watching some of these, and couldn’t help share them ahead of our group watching to my co-watcher friend. Things needed to be spoilt; joy to be shared.
youtube
Portrayed here, Yang Jun’s most iconic opening of Seventeen’s worst song: mathematically a masterpiece as two negatives make a positive. Also, do know that upon watching Yang Jun’s fancam back before the show started, I claimed him as one of my favourite as I thought dancing that awful must hide incredible singing talents, why else would he be there, right? I’ve had to reassess that statement, but I will not stop my support. He reached public infamy, legend status, and did so much for the show with just these few words.Similarly, team Hyogo gave us a SPLENDID rendition of MANIAC that I view with just as much affection as I do see team Sichuan’s HOT: an enemy of my enemy is my friend, desecrate songs I don’t like and we’ll get along (this is just what the songs sound like to me on regular after all, I think they did amazing).
Many such cases. The full cam footage of the first episode’s performance are overall a feast, a gathering of comically bad stages, put back to back for the heartless public to tear to shreds, only to further humiliate it’s most iconic suckers a week later, in front of Sunmi no less… There is nothing crueler when it comes to reality TV than an Mnet survival.
While a few stages did still look significantly better, and the second week packed overall better performances, the truth is still that the vast majority was mediocre at best, funnily enough, probably would rank 12/20 in my french fashion of rating: not awful enough to be failed but just toeing that line.
And that overall does make sense: why would a company send their best most promising trainees to a shitshow where they can hardly monitor their progress anymore, all for them to get eliminated after two weeks of airtime, but months of recording, alongside half the contestant, and after a combined screen time of about 10 seconds. The investment isn’t good when the winners are already pre-decided, might as well send your newbies, your bottom of the class lineup, avoiding the silent blacklisting of a large TV channel without wasting the time of your talents. As for the viewer, it only makes the experience more entertaining: the mind’s much more rested when all the decent guys are relatively safe for a few episodes when the network first has to weed out the ones who are simply way too incompetent to even get a single pity vote. Instead, you get to laugh at poor youngsters that still probably are doing much better than you would, only they have a roomful of witnesses and large audience to witness them.  I cannot truly cast the stone of ‘this is cruel and uncivilised’ when I myself go back to the Canton China’s team rendition of God’s Menu daily, for reasons that are anything but amazement.
Something that was evident throughout all the stages, including the good and passable ones though, was how little singers were present on set. The show even makes a point of highlighting it: if there is a handful of good performers and dancers, the singing is truly subpar. Only, for the jury to point it out is a bit hypocritical. Comparing the performances and the gradings assigned to each participant show that while the jury- and mainly professional hater Lim Han Byul- lament the lack of good voices, they do not support what little good ones they do have on their hand. Abysmal singers who can dance consistently get better star rankings than good singers with lacklustre dancing. The message is clear: we shall address the issue in words, but only participate in it with our actions.
For Choi Yujin to get four stars with that mid at most line being the only piece of singing we heard from him, while Park Gunwook got assigned three for not being heard singing enough was already quite frustrating. But Gunwook isn’t really a singer either, so the real rage was to see Kim Taerae also get only three stars AFTER the assessment that the show desperately needed SINGERS. If Yujin deserved four stars, then so did Taerae, because his dancing is nowhere near just middle-ground, he’s good enough to blend in the ensemble while carrying a vocal position. But the show does not care for this: they want flashy performers, no matter what their empty claim. But then, it seems Choi Yujin was actually a victim more than an undeserved win, as the show’s true focus seems to now do MY job and use every opportunity to belittle him and call him undeserving of his rank, as if they weren’t the ones putting him there in the first place.
But in all fairness, bad singing makes sense when a good portion of your candidates aren’t done going through puberty: the amount of 2006 to 2008ers present in the lineup should be an indicator as to why we hear so many unstable shaky creaky breaky voices: these are teenagers who should be in school, not in Public Shamings - The Show, no budget edition (because we spent all of it making a Roblox dupe, something the public for certain asked for).
Speaking of things no one asked for: Pentagon Hui’s presence. As enjoyable as it is to get an actual serve in the midst of… Whatever it is others are doing, there’s nothing pleasant about seeing him sit in the middle of all those teens, right out of the army and all out of tears to cry. The misery of every episode 1 reaction shot on him, free this man. At every round, we will have to pretend to carefully examine who exactly is most skilled, as if there wasn’t a guy among the participants who should have been mentoring them, not playing with them. Unlike CLC’s Yujin on Girls Planet, his situation is also nowhere near as dire: while Pentagon hasn’t been in its Shine heydays for a moment, they do not seem to be on the brink of disbandment the way CLC was when Girl’s Planet aired: Hui himself was speaking of comeback plans months before the start of Boys Planet. It seems CUBE ENT just wants to torture a poor guy who only probably wants to go back to his writing studio with his actual group rather than being under the threat of having to spend god knows how long Kep1er’s babybrother group will be active for. At least he provides respite whenever on stage I suppose, but I so desperately want him to get the Produce Camp Lelush treatment: a full time exposure then freedom on the last episode. Make it worth it at least!
youtube
Have a little palate cleanser before we carry on.
Sabotage
I love to talk badly about corporations too much to blame only the trainees for their bad performances though. Particularly, Mnet isn’t truly known for either fairness or transparency, and so a lot of what the show displays doesn’t reflect individual potential. When that many stages are bad, the fault is on the network, not only through their casting, but their sabotage. That’s right: here come the delicious speculations of foul play.
Just like fancams of a performance learnt in a few days- with foreign trainees being given one day less to train, by the way- aren’t really indicative of who is talented, the Star Level stages are to be put into question: the showrunners claim that the songs were picked by the teams, but it takes extreme gullibility to take their word when watching some of the stage choices: either those trainees are stupid on top of untalented, or someone isn’t telling the truth.
When I mentioned Canton China’s performance earlier, they are one of the most questionable matchup: why would foreigners who aren’t fluent pick a song as rap-heavy and dense in pronunciation as God’s Menu? Would they really have expected anything but this?
youtube
It’s still funny though sorry Canton China. KKAMA HH HH KKAJI.
And how come there just so happens to be such a high percentage of songs that members of the jury worked on, even with their extensive workography, when half the songs are their work, it becomes a tad suspicious, there isn’t just one writer and one choreographer in this industry. The numbers don’t add up. And as iconic as Shine is as a song, it’s still eyebrow-raise worthy to have Just the song to activate the competition’s most famous “trainee”’s backstory and tears. The songs are just too suspicious: fitting neither the skills or style or announced preferences of the participants. In a round where they have to best portray themselves, it’s hard to believe that so many contestants would pick so far out of their comfort zone, just to appeal to one member of the jury. Not to mention the coincidental stage repeats: the two tall and handsome but inexperienced guys just happened to both decide to do My House, in matching outfits too? At least try to be subtle about your script.
And all of those network picks only serve to push forward their favourites, and mostly, the premises of narratives they want to build. As the writers aren’t too original and love to rehash the same storylines, they are pretty easy to spot: the talented guy who did not charm the jury at first but will then sweep them off their feet with one day of practice, great but mean guy who’ll likely be lost by his “oversized ego”, the one who did So Good at first and then never lived up to it… It is much easier to make entertaining situations yourself than to expect them from a crowd of kids who likely wouldn’t start fights with how little time they have to do anything but practice and sleep. Hence, manufactured rivalries- between the Korean and Foreign group notably, something so out of pocket when within those you can find people who belong to one same debuted group split into blue and pink team, and definitely hilarious whenever they prompt a foreigner to say anything negative on the Korean team, taking it to their nationality as root of the issue, when some members of the Global team are themselves part of the Korean diaspora. The choice of Nationalistic War as a plotline is certainly a choice, but only works way less when instead of GP999’s three teams of more or less strictly region locked participants you have one country against the whole rest of the world. But I’d rather pretend this entire decision does not exist, there’s just something uncomfortable about the show trying to become ‘war on Kpop: these foreigners are trying to steal our job’. As if Mnet was even going to pick more than 3 Global trainees for their line up.
Then come my most detested, as I am a hater, the ones who take the limelight when being hardly better than MY picks who are objectively better naturally as I am the voice of truth. I mentioned Choi Yujin, but there are other worsties in the show, some who may get the same sad treatment as their fellow (of being shamed for not living up to expectation built out of nothing), I’m thinking most notably KuanJui from team Taipei whom the show will not manage to convince me is good as an Idol, no matter how much they repeat it: his traditional dancing is very good, but he neither could dance or sing Tiger Inside in a way that I could stomach, and it was neither a matter of awkward lack of confidence nor an issue of assignment that didn’t match his tastes. He may have done better indeed on an elegant song, but when it’s likely the final group will be performing Hip-Hop leaning choreographies, what use is there in lying that he can carry them out? Why are we pretending that he did not just disrespect Ten’s legacy etc etc? As he also carries the fatal flaw of not being a Korean trainee, which, to the Mnet writers’ eyes might as well mean you attempted murder on their families, I am expecting him to be this season’s Cai Bing, suddenly villainized by the community whenever the show needs some drama that doesn’t involve collateral damage for their plan of debutees to be.
Is there no main Slayer?
And how are they even going to make that lineup, you could ask, if everyone is mediocre, if there’s no talent but the 30 years old hag who already has a group at home and enlistment under his belt?
Thankfully, in the mass of Nothing, there still are a few attention grabbers, some I have already shouted out before, some that I keep for this more entertaining section of “lets see some good food”.
Well, good food…
I first want to give a shout-out to my little pity boys, the ones so clearly set up and so thoroughly mocked that you can only feel bad for them. I’d want them in the group just to spite the network. The Houses, as I’ve already mentioned before, have this incredible charm to them (they’re good looking) that makes it hard not to root for their progress (and they’re tall too) especially when the show bestows a montage of them working so hard day and night to escape their reputation (pretty boys should never be sad). Red House Jung Min Gyu is probably the funnier of the two, his awkwardness is in how brazenly he tries, while Blue House Bak Do Ha is the more tragic one, the one desperate with tears, the one who has to carry the burden of being Labelmate with Hui. Neither of them are good, but both seem untrained as hell, and the odds aren’t in their favour when the show cannot acknowledge that even with years of vocal lessons they’d hardly be able to sing Here I Am given their natural pitch. There’s something wholesome in the trauma-bound solidarity between the two as well, my favourite manufactured narrative is the show’s insistence on sliding a reaction shot of one House whenever the other does badly. They are brothers in martyrdom.
youtube
The one thing the jury did get right is how much we did need to see them perform together. Power duo.
Another Martyr would be Lee Da Eul: as soon as the fancams dropped he was already the most mocked online, for his sloppy and odd dancing. Just like the Houses, his voice is unfit for the Soprano-ranged songs, and just like them, he has that weirdly endearing thing to him. Unlike the houses though, his bad performance secured him a spot for at least a round, if votes remain the main factor of survival: the hate-views of his fancam alone landed him in the top 9 for two episodes in a row. He’s everyone’s favourite underskilled little guy. And perhaps mine as well. Daeul sweep etc… I hope he makes it to the finale.
youtube
He’s hypnotic to be perfectly honest, I’m obsessed with him he’s so woobly he’s so real.
Then come My Dozens. The ones that may not be deserving of the support compared to others, but that I still will support, because it’s my ranking, I get to choose the pretty boys who get in on face alone. Naturally, as the rest of the viewers, I devote myself to the Chiu SweetBlood- sorry I mean Jiwoong Sweep. Is he here and winning just because Bro is Beautiful? Maybe. But if the mass is not good might as well have pretty faces, and the thing is that he’s not completely void of talent, to my surprise and also disappointment, as there was something much funnier in supporting a guy who can legit do nothing but serve face and cleavage. From the get go I could never tell if I thought he was a good dancer or not. His fancam was… Not very good. His footage from his previous group endeavours were not too remarkable but not too bad. But Mirotic seemed to be just the style that best showcased his ability, and he can sustain vocals on top of the dancing, although not the most stunning ones. Still, that’s more than a Dozen needs to be doing, so shoutout to his pretty eyes and bosoms. Was he my favourite of his team? Not even. Did he still kind of Give? To me, certainly. But then I’m not objective towards the one truly handsome guy of the whole competition. Any lacks of his that would get anyone else thwarted from my list of faves is filled out by his mere blinks.
Good dancers who cannot hold a note were aplenty, and if I’m sensitive to guys who can shake it and willing to close my ears for them, I could not just adopt all of them. Some that did still vow me would be, and we’ll do quick name drops, Haruto, whose iconic voice break- cut off at broadcast because Mnet and I sometimes agree on who deserve the Ws- and iconic-er pre-show online presence carry him into my heart at all times, Wang Zi Hao who danced way better in his rehearsal than final stage but did not sound pleasant in either, Cha Woongki, yes he sounds awful no I don’t care he can shake it and threw a fish, and Na Kamden who hasn’t actually shown any singing so who knows maybe he’s good. All of these make it far in my excel sheet only because they aren’t Good dancers but Great ones. In this economy, it’s equivalent to having a minimum of singing skills.
As for singers, they get an automatic pass for me. We have to support what little voices we get.
The first Good singer I heard watching the performances was Jay, Kamden’s singing teammate, and he’s one I have to support double as it seems the public refuses to acknowledge him due to his cringeboy swag. Or perhaps he did something I’m not aware of, but his High School Musical type vocals deserve the acknowledgement: there’s not a lot of other candidates who can do what he does. So what if he’s cringe? What if he has the aura of a guy who posts tiktok thirst traps? What if he’s American? We have a shortage of singers. We need him now more than ever.
I mentioned Kim Taerae earlier, he alongside Lee Hwanhee are the two trainees who give the more Classic Kpop vocals. The former got to have a segment on how ‘he sounds so good but dances so bad’ and the latter is nowhere to be found on the screen. A damn shame, he sounds amazing, but what can we do against the editor’s favouritism except watch the full cam performance and sigh in hopes for a change to come when more group performances happen and they cannot skip him anymore.
Yoo Seungeon mainly, but also Krystian (with a very unique vocal colour, whose uncle possessed him, idk but i fuck with it), Park Gwanyoung (who sounded strained but way tolerable considering) and Winnie (who was mad good given the moves he was doing) aren’t just as good but still have nice vocal potential, and can probably do more, with time or more fitting songs.
Then come the ones that actually caught real attention, to different levels.
My favourite flop with no hopes of surviving, Kim Minhyuk, teammate of Park Gwanyoung, is being snubbed of screen time, of votes, of stars, of everything. Most tortured babygirl. Every day I dump a vote to the trash by giving it to him as if he could make it. First elimination and I know I’ll have to bid him goodbye, but our time together was lovely regardless. I made my peace, I don’t love him to the point of outrage, just to the point of disappointment.
Lee Ye Dam gave mediocre vocals on his live, but his practice sounded much better, so I do believe he can sing. And mainly, boy he can dance, and he can Slay. Moves AND attitude, it’s maddening given how his PR video had me on the fence about supporting him (made him drop all the way from my top ranks after the fancam, to the Thin Ice section). For my own public image, let’s all look into a spinning spiral and erase it from our minds, and focus on his gambler performance.
Sung Han Bin has me very confused. He’s quite obviously Mnet’s favourite little guy, and he’s surely talented, but he’s got that crazy trait of becoming way less interesting as soon as he’s on stage. His rehearsals and freestyles are way more charming, they film him having a silly little fake competition and suddenly I get the hype, then he does his assignments and I am bored. But well, would I be mad if he won? Absolutely not, he’s solid, he’s safe. He’s just a mystery: how does a guy who look so confident about performing also loses his charisma when he does? A science subject. Perhaps that’ll bewitch me.
Funnily, because they’re besties, the show so badly wants a Sung Hanbin vs Seok Matthew rivalry. They do play it up a tiny bit, but never fully, instead, you get to see Canada boy rave over how good his friend is over and over again, while himself being honestly quite as good. It seems that a lot of people want them to debut together, friendship wins, but also talent wins, because Matthew is a great performer, good dancer, pleasant singer though with room to improve, and seems comfortable and happy on stage, so that’s just nice. Good vibes. Go Canada.
Next one will have people ask, wait, didn’t you have a section for good dancers who can’t sing? And yes, I did, but the thing is to me, Park Gunwook is more than a great dancer. He’s just way too nice to watch dance. Makes me insane levels of “I fuck with this guy’s dance”. So he’s allowed to not sing the best you see. I think he can learn. I think he can be dangerous if he does. Like give him vocals and it’s the end for everyone else because damn. He dance good. That’s it. Sometimes I just need a lil dance guy.
The one sin Jiwoong committed in entrancing everyone with his vampire spell was to take away attention from Jeong Ichan in his team. That guy is kind of crazy if you ask me, and gets no attention for it. Sad! Watch him shake it, hear him sing, he’s quite obviously talented in both aspects. I want him in the final lineup so desperately, but it seems the judges disagree with me. Well, they never had good taste anyway. All he can do now is steal Yoon Jongwoo’s strategy of gaybaiting through Jiwoong to secure his fujogirl’s votes through ship-sweep. I’m begging him to get on this grind. I need him to survive.
For a while I didn’t understand the Keita hype. Not that I thought he was bad: like Hanbin I just thought he was skilled but not that bewitching, at least from his fancam he seemed really skilled, but I just didn’t feel much. I can understand better with his appearances on the two episodes so far. His Conduct Zero stage was fun, and he also did well with Here I Am both in evaluation and in Good Conduct, so go short king! You caught me now, I’m adding you to the ones I look after now. If we have to have a kpop rapper on the team, he can be it.
Kum Junhyeon. That’s about it. I thought he was great in his fancam, I thought he was awesome in Nunu Nana too, like oh he can sing alright? Seems like a fun guy too, let’s twirl our hair and pat ourselves on the back for always knowing he was to look out for, I always knew but now I got the other watchers on my side too. Very satisfying.
Unlike the total disregard for Kim Minseoung. It was to the point I wondered if he was just a known public enemy, he was my favourite from the fancams, and by favourite I mean that Youtube started putting it in my automatic playlists because of how much I watched it-something about the clarity of his moves, so satisfying, so clean, so exactly what I look for, so I pledged allegiance to him forever, and I’m thankful that he did not embarrass me. He’s great. And he’s in the bottom twenty percent with a full four star ranking. Very frustrating. Gives me a superiority complex too: I know what’s up. No one else does. They only like him because he does a flip…
In Conclusion...
The show exactly meets its expectations: bad taste and bad faith from the judges. The public doesn’t know shit. We are short of talent in this industry nowadays. I’m the biggest martyr. Chiu sweep. Ten thousand likes and I drop my list of most hated candidates just to feel something.

Short Kdramas/Drama Special/Web Drama
Part 1
From time to time I go through the well-known "drama hangover". Even if I try to balance my backlog, don't start too many dramas with diversified stories at the same time, even if I choose only one favorite to follow... it doesn't matter, the routine will run over all my plans and I end up not having the courage or the will to watch anything. Usually when this kind of thing happens, I look for short dramas, with plots that I don't need to think too much, just watch, smile, fall in love and that's it, move on. So I remembered to list these short dramas I've seen and give my recommendations.
Part 2 here
Part 3 here
Splash Splash Love
Tumblr media
Splash Splash Love, the 2015 minidrama with only 2 episodes made me so immensely happy. The story is about a high school student Jang Dan-bi (Kim Seul Gi). Running away from a maths test she finds herself in a playground. Unconsciously, she goes into a puddle and is suddenly transported to the Joseon period. There she meets King Lee-do (Yoon Doo-joon). My review here.
After the Rain
Tumblr media
Kim Kang Woo is my soft spot and this 2 episode drama special seemed to call to me. And good thing too because this show is excellent. This is a comedic human drama about Bong Gil who is forty years old, single and tired of taking care of his 90 year old father. My review here.
The Reason I'm Getting Married
Tumblr media
Two very good reasons to check out this drama - Song Jun Ho and Hong Jong Hyun. 😍 The story is about a woman (Park Hee Bon) who is about to marry her long-time boyfriend and meets a friend from the past who has a crush on her. My review here.
Came to me and Became a Star
Tumblr media
This story is about Gang Seok (Kim Ji Suk) and Ha Jin (Jung So Min). Both are struggling to stay afloat in life when they meet and fall in love. Review here.
Review Notebook of My Embarrassing Days
Tumblr media
Another KBS Drama Special starring Jeon So-min and Park Sung-hoon. Do Do-Hye (Jeon So-Min) is a mathematics teacher and has an overly honest personality, which makes her face embarrassing moments. She keeps a diary where she writes down all these embarrassing moments and reflects on herself. My review here.
Handmade Love
Tumblr media
Because this web drama has Lee Soo Hyuk as the lead actor, I had to go see what it was all about. This is about Woven (Lee Soo Hyuk) who is a god who sinned by touching the coat of a goddess and his punishment is to live on Earth and make clothes that cure humans of their sadness.
I think Lee Soo Hyuk is perfect for the role of a god with that perfect elegance and ethereal looks. And I want to thank whoever thought he should wear high collars and fluffy pullovers. ❤️
The first thing that struck me was the luxurious appearance of the small shop. The clothes were beautiful and the furniture looked wonderful and magical.
I liked the stories of the humans he had to heal as they seemed solid and with good messages but I also felt they were rushed, maybe because it was only 8 episodes. So the concept was very cute but the execution was not very efficient.
The Universe's Star
Tumblr media
"The Universe's Star" is written and directed by Kim Ji Hyun, known for "Splash Splash Love". That, and having my beloved Suho/Kim Jun Myeon in the cast made me want to watch this drama. This is the love story between a talented singer-songwriter Woo Joo (Kim Jun Myeon) and Byul (Ji Woo), a 19-year-old student who turned into a grim reaper after dying in an accident.
This show has stayed in my heart forever because although it only has 6 half hour episodes, it has more depth than some regular length dramas. Each episode had the ability to make me think and feel, and themes such as the meaning of life, self-worth or appreciating the present came up regularly in my thoughts.
While I can't say that the acting of the main actors was excellent I really enjoyed the OTP arc. The ending is quite emotional and moving and although it left me crying it also left my heart full.
I also have to mention the friendship between Byul and Gakshi (ghost). Though they should be "enemies" a friendship is formed and it is a pleasure to see them together.
Queen of the Ring
Tumblr media
It's a cute and romantic mini-series of only 6 half-hour episodes. It's perfect for those who don't have time to devote to an entire series of 16 episodes or more and the content is light and heartfully.
Story is about an ugly girl, Nan Hee (Kim Seul Gi) who one day receives a ring that holds a family secret. Due to the magic ring, she dates Se Gun (Ahn Hyo Seop) who is a handsome guy but has a cold-blooded personality and struggles to see her as his ideal type.
I have a crush on Kim Seul Gi and I thought she gave Nan Hee a spunky personality even though she's so insecure about her physical appearance. And, as always, the emotional moments of this drama were delivered by her in a touching way.
I didn't feel very good about the premise of this drama and the idea of the "ugly girl" liking a boy who was only interested in physical appearances was not winning me over. However, the drama showed me that it had a message behind the original idea that left me quite satisfied with the end result.
Romance Full of Life
Tumblr media
It's about In-Sung (Yoon Si Yoon) who is preparing for the exam to become a police officer for 4 years. He fails the exam 8 times, but he still has a positive personality. He then applies for the high paying part-time job which is titled "Full Life Experience". And then his life changes.
Of the Three Colors of Fantasies trilogy, this was the weakest for me. What I liked: I loved Yoon Si Yoon in this drama. I thought he looked adorable as a geek with those chrome glasses and that ruffled hair.
I liked that he turned into some sort of superhero and stopped being a weakling but I hated some of his actions and the way it changed him for the worse.
The OTP was okay.
Two Lights: Relumino
Tumblr media
For three years Seo In-Soo (Park Hyung-sik) has been facing partial blindness. Looking for a new leisure activity, he joins a photography club for people with visual limitations. That's when he meets Ahn Soo-Young (Han Ji-min) - a young woman who is part of the group of students.
The story shows the daily struggles each has to go through due to their physical limitations, as well as the bond that is developed between them as they get to know each other better.
This short film is to make people aware of Samsung's Relumino device so the running time of the film is only 30 minutes, so the story is developed quickly but manages to be sweet, sensitive and beautiful.
And I liked the message of hope, inner strength and independence in the midst of darkness.

weekly drama #thoughts
right now, my favorite airing drama that i’m keeping up with is our blues. the episodes seem to build on each other/the drama is getting better with every ep, which i much prefer to stories that start out strong and then fizzle out. i love how messy everyone and their interpersonal relationships are, and if you would have told me that two, feuding middle-aged single dads would have been my favorite storyline i would not have believed you but here we are. im also a sucker for the ships passing in the night and Hero of Another Story format that we’re getting. standouts for me so far have been the relationships between The Dads and their teenagers, shin min ah’s character and how well/nuanced depression is being depicted, and i cant wait for more on the han ji min and kim woo bin storyline.
drawbacks are lee byung hun :| im not the hugest fan of the actor or the character so it’s like a double-dose of please get out. im also hoping hansu doesnt make a return :’D
--
my liberation notes continues to be oddly soothing to watch. unlike most of the viewers, i dont feel an intense relatability to the characters other than i also hate commuting lol, but they’re all interesting. obviously im a sucker for mr. gu and mi jeong, and i wont lie that’s a good 85% of why im watching the show, but i also like the introvert squad (esp my curmudgeon rep mr. manager) and chang hee is growing on me. gi jeong i really want to like but she is honestly just too much for me in a bad way right now, which makes me sad because i adore lee el. i do like her interactions with her boss though. im excited for the possible gangster storyline
--
sh**ting stars i am watching but im on the fence with it. the “africa” scenes were so bad i thought they were an intentional parody and then they...weren’t. which is a big first strike. the editing in the show is really bizarre/annoying as well, especially since the cast is so huge it was overwhelming for the first two eps. eps 3-4 were moderately better.
weirdly enough, what i like the most about the show is the business element of it, which is usually my least favorite part of a drama. seeing all the different components of the entertainment firm come together is super interesting. i also like the platonic relationship between han byul and yu sung/how much of a big bro yu sung is in general. right now my favorite character is actually the lawyer, because i respect that healthy work/life separation lol. im going to give this show another week or two of eps and see if it’s working for me, since i do also love a bickering couple
--
next up are the cdramas who rules the world and the wind blows from longxi. im also interested in the twdrama white book but idk how readily subs will be available for that one. for kdramas, i’ll be starting bloody heart and the sound of magic

omg i hate my brother SO MUCH!
HE FUCKING KILLED MY KIDS AND MY DOG IN A HOUSE FIRE SO HE COULD MAKE OUT WITH JONGHYUN IN SIMS AND MARRY HIM LIKE WTF????? JUST FOR EATING HIS DORITOS?
it’s a sad day for me but i am no longer a mother anymore. and i would like to pay tribute to my angels, romeo, juliette, sherlock and my dog ppang. he also killed roo’s son byul-min.
well at least i’m dead with them. having a brother totally sucks. i need to get him back somehow.
— 🐸
Well Doritos are Important but burning your Sims house down is far. Something like selling the house is understandable you can just get a new house. But you get to at least start over. Starting over is the best part. I literally love creating new families and building the house. I love dress up games and home decor games so that's all I use the Sims for. I play for a day or two after building then I don't play it again for six months so you get to do the fun part again.

Drama rec masterlist | Drama rant thread (beware of spoilers)
Tumblr media
This is the cutest freaking drama, and I am so sad it's actually over. Though I do like the kdrama format of 16 episodes, sometimes I wish they would go on just a little longer, so I can have more time with the characters.
It's cute as hell, cheesy in all the right ways, and laugh-out-loud funny. Enemies to lovers is always a yes from me, and this was just perfect. Their chemistry is off the charts! I want nothing more than to see these two actors work together again.
If you have seen Business Proposal, I feel like the vibes are very similar (In a good way). So I'm also saying that if you haven't seen either of the two dramas, get a move on and do it 😂 If you enjoy rom-coms even just a little, you will love them, I promise.
I will have to say that I was somewhat disappointed when they went for the love triangle, but they actually somehow pulled it off and managed not to ruin any of the characters for me. So I'll let it slide just because.
If I have to be nitpicky, I do want to say that the overall drama was a bit messy. They tried to put a lot of different stories into it and had so many b-plots I actually lost count along the way. I do feel like some could have been cut without affecting the drama at all, and if that's the case, the b-plot should have just not happened. (I tried to count all the b-plots and think it came up to like 6 or 7 different things going on almost all throughout the drama - that is a lot for only 16 episodes).
The main story, however, was perfect, and I'm not going to let anything ruin that for me.
It had everything I love in a good rom-com and I will definitely come back to rewatch sometime in the future.

Lucky Star - 1/20
Nothing sucks more than when your kids are sick. Kyuhyun thinks it's even worse than when they throw tantrums, or walk in on you having sex with your partner or when they're tiny babies and they poop and puke everywhere. Maybe this is because Kyuhyun feels entirely sympathetic to his sick child. His child is ill and he can't make it better. They just want him to make it go away, he can't.
Your kid crying because they're sick is very different to them crying because they're having a tantrum or something. That's just frustrating, this is actually sad. His baby is crying because he's unwell, all he wants is for Kyuhyun to hold him and wrap him up in love. He can't be mad at them for that. He doesn't even feel frustrated. He just feels sad. He wants to make it better straight away.
Hi, this is a sequel to Written in the Stars. I wanted to write something with older Byul and to get a glimpse into their lives post-high school. I hope you enjoy reading it :)
