for the title ask meme: “like a song you can’t stop singing (ear worms)”, “false cognates”, “who knows what is good and what is bad”, and/or “byzantine’s general problem” (sorry you get all of the nerd shit titles <3)
<3 bud we're in the star wars fandom, it's all nerd shit all the time here. But also: thank you I was chewing on these all day and have narrowed hem down to four instead of the uuuuuuh like 15+ ideas, some of which are now living in the WIP grabbag for a day when I have more brain.
“like a song you can’t stop singing (ear worms)” oh this is a fic about the chips. This is a fic about the chips, where the chips are less 'Flip A Switch Now You Are Meat Droids For Real' and more — a slow, leaking poison, finding its way through the cracks and gaps. Some clones have the empire good and some clones have the jedi bad and it all means by the point that order 66 actually goes out, they're all…twisted into obeying, though the reasoning behind it is different.
By the time order 66 comes down, the chips are gone. By the time order 66 comes down, the chips are pointless, anyway.
 “false cognates”
Ok so this would play with the thing that is driving me fucking insane about (canon) Mando'a right now, which is: there's no differentiation between Jedi (specifc group!!) and just The Republic, and also no difference between darksider and Sith, which….I mean, you know, bmybw is what it is, you know this why makes me insane. Anyway, the fic would be like, epistolary? fragmented bits about The War, propaganda and academic papers and that sort of stuff, and it would start off kind of very clearly canon and at the end would still resemble canon, a bit, with the whole empire force sensitive in charge etc etc, only there's parts of the order still around and you're left trying to work out — like, did the surviving members go sith, did they all fall, is the republic referenced in the mando'a sections actually the republic or the jedi order, that sort of unreliable translation work that I am…skirting the edges of in btmybw. (Everything in btmybw is accurate, if not quite as detailed if you break down the specific words to their component parts; this ….would very much lean on the ambiguity that you can, say, translate darjetii nasstar Jetiise into [sith] destroy [jedi] OR [darksiders] destroy [republic] OR [darksiders] destroy [jedi] OR [sith] destroy [republic] OR [dark jedi] destroy [republic], all of which are…well, obviously very different sentences.)
“who knows what is good and what is bad”, byte I see you giving me koans and like: ok fair it is star wars but also I SEE YOU. Anyway, this would be a character study of obi-wan, in the funniest possible way, which is: obi-wan meditates at three points in time, and they're all now sharing a meditation and stuck in a metaphysical room together.
Babywan on melidaan, who just wants to know that it means something, that there's a point, and general kenobi on the negotiator reassures him that it does, that it's worth it, that he can take the things he learns and help (the clones, his padawan), and ben kenobi (who is less meditating and more, y'know, depression fugue staring at the wall of his depression cave pre-kenobi series) manages, mostly through the power of overwhelming depression and isolation induced muteness, not to laugh in their faces because no it's all fucking pointless the only thing he did was teach the people who murdered his family how to do it better.
 byzantine’s general problem
This is the Bail and Breha fic. This is the Bail and Breha running a fucking rebellion fic, where the problem is both [guestures] the issues inherent in running a secret rebellion against the evil psychic wizard dictator who runs the galaxy and his minions, and also more specifically a problem with a general, ie, obi-wan, who is fucking missing.
This would involve a lot of Bail and Breha weekend at bernies-ing around the idea of General Kenobi — space emails and orders and meetings that get cancelled at the last minute, hush hush wink wink we all know the general is here but no you can't see him, opsec you know— while also quietly and desperately trying to coordinate a search for him, not sure if he's on a mission or dead or captured or—
(or if he walked out into the desert and they'll never find his bones)
anyway, cheers for the prompts! Hope you feel better bud.

21/30:  Is your writing style or WiP influenced by a particular book or author?
Voidsong is still the new hotness / my current obsessive interest, so:  Voidsong is like a love letter to the sword-and-bolter space operas that made me realize science fiction might be Good Actually back in my late teens / early 20s.  I’ve described Voidsong as “what you’d end up with if Games Workshop decided to hire Dr. Carol Clover to write Warhammer 40K books,” which probably sounds like nonsense to most of y’all, but if you know, you know.
(Actually, since I’ve said that multiple times, I should probably explain it.  Carol J. Clover is like my favorite story-understander whose main source of notoriety is applying feminist analyses to places where you don’t normally expect to see them; she came up with the “final girl” theory of slasher movie analysis and she’s a Medievalist who’s done some truly groundbreaking work looking at how gender is portrayed in Icelandic sagas.)
So, in that WiP in particular, the shadows of Star Wars and the Horus Heresy books loom pretty large.
In terms of my general style, I feel like I draw a lot from old-timey pulp writers.  I like to write entirely-too-over-long, purple, byzantine run-on sentences interspersed with laconic, punchy action sequences.  I see a lot of Robert E. Howard in there, which, like, tbh I don’t feel great about considering Bob Howard’s whole deal, but the prose does sound nice.

Every now and then I feel bad for giving 0 context for anything, so gonna quickly summarize my story stuff under the cut
The Traveler’s Found (TTF)
Skye, Gill, Marth, Kydin, Leo, Kira, Krieg, Heiwa, Narcissa, Sebastian, Vadim, Bahemek, Xenon, etc
TTF is hard to summarize because it has 10 story arcs and they all lead into the other, but the plot begins with ‘A wizard terrorist attacks the king of Hou’lu sending two girls on a quest to stop him’ which sounds so simple doesn’t it -sobs-
Very adventure, political intrigue, slice of life elements
They basically travel all over the world, and I’ll quickly summarize what that’s like by listing each countries major influences
Hou’lu: Italian Renaissance, China
Sunobor: Medieval Germany, Japan, Inuit
Haldon: Folk Mexican, Folk Italian
Lavynna; Byzantine, some inspo from India to structure of things?
Gehinna: Ancient Hebrew
Parappa: Egypt-Germany
North Desert: Russia-Arabic
Harpies (more a tribe): Maasai
TTF of them all gets the most complicated but very incrementally, so it’s the hardest to express much on. But they get a cool hard magic system based on 10 elements so
Also TTF dragons are sentient, intelligent, and morally complex
The Miyoré Schism
A prequel to ttf by about 900 years
Faolan, Mien, Enlai, whatever I name the girl, Jiao
The plot here is a bit simpler
What happens when the one who pulls the blade only those Chosen by God can touch is among the race of people thought to be destined to serve?
This focuses largely on the Sha’li of East Hou’lu. As a race they have very distinct white hair, pale skin, and red eyes. At this time in history, monster taming was very common as well, so most the characters have a family or personal monster. Sha’li also have an ability to become “invisible” but in actuality they are lowering their ‘presence’ or ‘noticibility’ to all non-Sha’li
This story draws largely from Tibet for its aesthetics
Kingdoms
Ariella, James, Charles, Kiba
I have uprooted a lot about this story and not yet relayed it, but so far
A girl who wanted to become a soldier but was refused strikes out on adventure to do what she can for her country on her own- but to her chagrin gets a tag along
This story likely will have a soft magic system, and is definitely still based on Victorian and Japanese aesthetics. It’s actually a specific era of Japanese history but I can’t remember which. Possibly 16th c?
Despite this, it’s a low tech world.
Most fantasy type creatures/races do show up in Kingdoms, unlike my other stories
Dragons exist in Kingdoms but are universally evil and nobody has ever killed one
Magic and Cannons (MnC)
A wip name still
Cusick, Agathe, Romana, Kordell, Levi, Maureen, Ames, Sung-jin
I’m still figuring put the plot to this honestly, but the first bit is definitely
‘A narcissistic man is captured as a PoW and must find a way to escape’
There’s just three countries of any importance to this world, and it’s much less whimsical in nature than the others, being closer to reality in some ways, and having a lot more tech. Though it vibes as subtly cartoony in how characters have slightly exaggerated aspects to their personalities and behaviors.
Delemar is the country Cusick is from and is based on Wild West in many ways, they’re a very independent people which can be good and bad, they also give no hecks about safety and are pretty wild in general
Choson is where Romana is from and they are much more interested in normalcy and order, which can be both good and bad. They prefer reptiles and fish as pets to mammals actually, which feels important to mention. If you know much about history, I suppose it’s clear they draw a lot from Korea for aesthetics.
Choson is also a very mixed population in terms of race, which Delemar is very much not.
Kievan is where Agathe hails from and is based on Russia. In each case I tried sticking to 1850s-1900s ish for my influences of these countries, though socially they are very diff.
Kievan has an affinity for wine and is the only country that appreciates using electricity for power. They have harsh winters, especially compared to the other two countries which tend to be more tropical in climates. Kievan is less developed so far, but they tend towards legalism there, and while that can be bad, they are also the one not involved in a pointless war, so
MnC is what I call glasspunk, Delemar and Choson rely on ‘reactions’ for their energy sources, which I can only explain as ‘you know how if you mix two volatile liquids, they could explode? They harness the energy from such things’
This is possible because their magic system is a type of alchemy which has allowed them a lot of reactions not available to us, and with this they’ve been able to get treated glass which is nearly indestructible, great for containing anything they need.
Magic is still something within the individual, but in MnC the extent of what it does is change the properties of whatever you’re touching with your hands. If you specialize in using this and inventing things based off of things with changed properties, you’re called a mage.
MnC has a lot of strange tech this way, including trains, vehicles, customizeable guns, staves that through weird tech stuff can have sort of elemental effects, etc.
Electricity is not compatible with reactions btw, because it can cause them to explode outside of when they’re meant to, kinda like smoking by a bunch of canisters of gasoline, it might be a lil risky. So societies that use reactions do not use electricity and have things in place to get rid of it, and societies that use electricity don’t use reactions. Combining them can get cool tech, but is inherently risky.
oh whoops I went off there, huh. Oh well it’s not seen as often as the other types of societies/magics I listed so
Dragons in MnC are animals (technically wyverns?) and have been domesticated to be work animals. No fire breath but they do have a strong venom, I think a neurotoxin type?? And the insides of their mouths are orange 👀 oh and the domesticated ones are reflective like mirrors ish
Children of the Little Mine (CotLM)
Geno
This is the only one I plan to make a novel, because it’s set in 1950′s-1960′s New York City and I don’t care about those aesthetics at all
I don’t have it planned out very far for plot, but basically a gremlin thief boy of 17 has a strange ability to manipulate how gravity effects him, and seemingly nobody else in the world has this. But one day during a break and entering situation, Geno finds another boy with an ability, and from there they decide to try sticking together a bit to figure out why, and maybe put together a heist against a mafia boss in the mean time (two stealy boys)
This is very close to being historical fiction aside from abilities, which are /extremely/ rare in this world. I’m very inspired by Artemis Fowl and A Separate Peace for tone, and plan to have middleschool boys as my target audience. Though I love fantasy and such, this one’s still a bit close to my heart anyways
Anyways literally nobody asked for this I just do this to myself. I seriously wanna start practicing comic making skills, but I can’t do that too much for a daily thing when I can usually put in an hour at best. I’m trying to find a sweet spot for it all, but it may yet be awhile before I can post literally anything that sheds light on who the heck any of the chars I post are.
I want to though, and I’ve been running this blog for years now, so best to assume it’ll get there someday. I have still written a lot and planned out things, so progress still happens behind the scenes. Aside from the last few months but that’s not uncommon for this time of year. If you actually read this, thanks euchjsd I don’t think many will, but having it here makes me feel a bit better

2, 5, 6, 7, 37. 🧡
2.  A trope I’ve never used, but might want to try?  Hmm, considering today’s weather, let’s say the Snowed In Together trope.
5.  One of my strengths?  My stories are generally well edited, considering I never use a beta.  And I think I’m pretty good at the sensory description of place, both visually and otherwise.  That’s two, sorry.  Good punctuation never won anyone a Pulitzer!  ;-)
6. One of my weaknesses?  I’m an impatient writer.  I want to rush to the culmination of a story (and to publish it), and often do so at the expense of credible emotional backstory.
7.  A snippet of prose that I’m proud of?  “Their ceremonies would be modest, and gain significance by their sheer number.  A dozen funerals for their solitude, and a thousand baptisms of love.” I was re-reading a ficlet called Ceremonies the other day, and was particularly pleased with how these words, which started as a bolt from the blue while driving one day, turned out.  I like them because it’s a metaphor, but a subtle one.  They’re simple words, nothing flowery, and yet they pack an emotional punch.
37. Talk about my current WIPs.  LOL.  Whatever WIPs could you mean, @smilingoceanlover?
Well, there’s a Civil War AU based on real-life Canadian turned Union soldier and spy, Sara Emma Edmonds. It’s just some preliminary research and some chapter plotting and hasn’t been touched since 2018.
There’s my X-Files 1980s New York AU tentatively titled New Wave (I’ve published a scene from it as stand-alone called Even Now in Heaven) in which Mulder is an undercover DEA agent, and Scully is a medical student searching for her sister.
There’s a surfing story called Thicker than Water about a disillusioned eco-warrior / surfer (loosely based on Mulder) and a doctor running away from an abusive marriage in a coastal Native community (loosely based on Scully) that I really should get back to.
Then there’s the Outlander historical AU I’m currently working on, set in early medieval Russia where a Viking merchant (Jamie) meets a Khazar-Byzantine prophetess (Claire).  Working title is Fox and Falcon, but I’ll probably change that.  It’s mostly just a bunch of research at this stage.
That’s about it... oh no. Wait.  What’s this, hidden at the back?  A file literally called NaNoWriMo 2, last touched on May 9, 2020, which seems to have something to do with a recently married couple settling in Spanish California in 1845 after surviving a harrowing trip across the American continent.  Huh.  I should probably look into that.  ;-)

August Goals Recap
Hello! If you’ve been around this blog for a while, you know I set monthly goals and post about them here and if you’re new then, welcome! An Intro post for how my monthly goals work can be found here. This month I was really productive - not only did I go from 24 to 28 goals, I still won by a margin of 5 points which is crazy. Details and commentary are below the cut. If you’re doing monthly goals (or goal setting in general) feel free to tag me with your lists so we can encourage each other :)
Pay for fall semester - this turned out to be a lot cheaper than I expected since I’m not living on campus and paying for room/board, but the uni still cheated me out of a 10% tuition decrease and I’m still salty
Tell gym staff how lifeguarding and work study is going to work
Email faculty advisor  and ask how work study and research are going to work
Do one club event if allowed
Make budget for the month
Update bujo intro pages - I straight up forgot I had a bujo tbh. I’m changing it to more of a diary than a to do list keeper, since I got a new calendar planner for school
Make character for space DnD campaign - This has become AI-Lia Anatres! You can find her wip intro here!
Talk with my best friend once a week
Talk to Grandparents once a week
Read the books Ms. T had given me - ok I have a stack like 8 books high about the byzantine Catholic church and I’ve just been busy ok? They all look fascinating
Fix computer battery issues/Get new computer battery
Start a new book - I read A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, AND the sequel, A Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy and they’re both excellent
Finish TCoMC - This is my new favorite classic and it should be required reading instead of the nonsense my English teacher gave me in 11th grade
Work out at least once a week
Draw one life/reference study - a few life drawing renderings like we did in art class with dramatically lit poses - I did a ton of these actually! they’re kind of boring but I might share them later
Learn how to make edits for my book to put on aforementioned Instagram
Make authors instagram, set up a profile, get contact info of all my writer friends, post a few things - follow me @ettagraceauthor!!
Teach myself some more advanced Excel functions that might come in handy - I did learn a lot of Excel functions at the internship but this is a vague goal so it doesn’t get marked
Make an authors website - Check it out here!
Start teaching myself Physics E&M
Teach myself orgo chem on Khan academy
Teach myself some accounting basics online
Figure out what the plan is for fall semester and start semester without missing any assignments
Stay one week ahead of publishing LAFA
Outline chapters 1-10 of Laoche
Make character outline for Madelyn and Seth
Write first half of AI-Lia Antares - I made good progress but not halfway
Create list of editing things I need to do for Storge

Tag Game
Tagged (sort of!) by @writersloth. Just kinda felt like doing this, looked interesting.
1. If you could go to one of your OC’s bachelor/bachelorette party, which would you choose (also: who would have the wildest one???) Alexander. As an estranged noble, he’d probably have a pretty high-end party full of great food and drink, but the party itself would be a fairly small and tight-knit affair. Just a good time with a few friends is how I like it.
The craziest party would probably belong to Razorwing. He’s a famous hero who absolutely adores being in the spotlight. He’d have a massive party at a outside his house or something, and no invites required! He’d love if all his fans from the world over flocked to have a great time! He’d probably sneak off to have some time alone with Eignach, though.
2. What’s your favorite time of day to write? Noon. I get a ton of writing done before bed late at night though.
3. What’s your favorite ship in your WIP? (platonic or romantic, I get ya) Razorwing and Eignach, the Birb Bois™ are the only real “thing”. Everyone else is either too busy with their jobs or just have other priorities. A lot of people are young and/or just not looking to settle down just yet. Also, due to the setting the story takes place in, it doesn’t let itself well to downtime. Any downtime is generally just lulls in between bouts of combat and exploration.
Razorwing and Eignach actually did kind of evolve from a ship. I sort of implied they were gonna fall for each other, but didn’t set anything in stone. Eignach was originally just a massive fan of the hero Razorwing, who took him in after he was left homeless by what proceeds Blackheart, my main WIP. A few readers said what great chemistry they had. They grew into a fiercely devoted couple soon after.
4. How far are you into your WIP? Actually...almost done. I’m pretty amazed actually. There’s still additional drafts, but the fact I’m nearly done writing the story itself is a big thing to me. I can’t wait to see how people react to the ending.
5. If you were stuck in a broken elevator for twelve hours, which oc would you choose to be stuck in there with you? (note: you have to be in there for the twelve hours!!! no Houdini escape!!!) Razorwing, 100%. I almost picked Senci, but he’s very antsy and would get pretty upset at being stuck in a small box for most of a day. Razorwing could pass the time by telling me of all his big adventures and all the monsters he’s fought.
6. What’s your favorite color? (generic, I know) Gold, kinda. Maybe red, or purple? Black? White? I dunno, I guess I like all of them, I don’t really consider any flat out better, just more suited to different aesthetics. I GUESS gold, if I absolutely needed to choose.
7. Where would one of your OC’s propose to the other? (if this question isn’t up your alley, replace “propose to” with “surprise attack hug”) Alexander, while pretty influential and part of high nobility, prefers solitude. If he fell in love, he’d probably take them out to a hill on the countryside and propose there.
8. Which oc is most like you? Charles. Aside from the being half-dragon part, that is. We’re both socially awkward dorks who are massive shut-ins and have trouble expressing ourselves. He’s secretly really sweet, though.
9. Do you prefer writing with ambient noise, music (if so, with or without lyrics), or in silence? Music! Mostly instrumentals and the like, though I kinda need specific music for specific moods and sections, otherwise my focus is thrown all out of whack. Below are a couple examples of what I use for what occasions.
Plot/Dialogue
Combat
Happy resolutions/Fluff
Tragedy/Deaths/Other sad parts
10. If you suddenly got the power of teleportation, where in the world would you go first?
Oh God, so many landmarks. I guess if I had to pick I’d say Constantinople/Istanbul. I’m a massive fan of the ERE/Byzantine Empire and I want to see the Theodosian Walls and Hagia Sophia.
Tagging @lady-redshield-writes, @oceanwriter, @sheralynnramsey and @paper-shield-and-wooden-sword!

ok i need to process things i read
race, rebellion, and arab muslim slavery (mcleod, 2016) argues for the existence of antiblackness in pre-islamic arabia based largely on the authority of jahili poets, who were also slaves, who wrote about their skin colour in relation to their social position
from these poets theres a gap of 200-odd years, when it skips to al jahiz, a prolific scholar known for among other things his “book of animals” which predates darwin by like a thousand years in describing natural selection
but the reason he’s in this paper is because of his On The Superiority of Blacks over Whites, in which McLeod accuses him of intentionally distancing himself from his blackness while at the same time al jahiz asserts that the arabs are in fact black, and so was the prophet, and he names several members of the prophets family who were also black
modern scholars have interpreted Superiority in a way that is all things considered pretty patronising, as a series of potentially satirical and extraordinary claims not unlike some of the more vulnerable claims of modern black nationalists, who themselves claim the text as an ideological forebear
otoh in Anyone Who Says the Prophet is Black Should Be Killed by Wesley Williams (WIP), a far more thoroughly-sourced piece it must be said, argues that the Arabs at the time of the Prophet regarded their own black skin as a sign of pure lineage, and that while they did recognise other racial types the skin differences were in luminosity rather than hue (the arabs were regarded as having smoother, more luminous skin)
willians describes all the words used in arabic to refer to different skin colours at incredible length, with citations from classical scholars fwiw, noting that some terms are used differently in describing humans than their general usage, a fact about which mcleod agrees but does not analyse in as much depth
the short version of williams’ conclusions is that he brings up a shitload of examples of descriptiions which all end up corroborating al jahiz’s
even going so far down the timeline as rumi who accuses the persians of persecuting the sayids due to their dark skin
mcleod does not provide the original terms used by the jahili poets in describing their own skin that could provide some guidance on the hue vs luminosity debate
this is markedly less scrutiny than mcleod pays to terms like “red” “green” and “blue” used to refer to lighter skinned people
williams does offer an explanation of some of the (few, as I understand it) cited examples of jahili antiblackness, noting that the man who mocked a peer for his black skin was himself also known to be dark skinned
it is a commonly known fact that the abbasid revolution was caused by the fact that the umayyads were giant arab chauvanists who never really got their minds wrapped around multiculturalism, and considered themselves a superiour racial group
mcleod doesnt talk about al jahiz much but it must be said that he was born 25 years after the abbasid revolution. as williams tells the story, the abbasids slowly but very clearly changed the ethnic dynamics of the empire over the course of a century or so, changing it to a comparatively lightly persian-dominant empire rather than an arab supremacist one
al jahiz would have been like at least 30 before he wrote anything of consequence and that’s lowballin it. meaning that he would have been around and watched this gradual de-arabisation, while also the lines between ethnic groups blended and persians became more araby and arabs became more persiany
so in this version of the story al jahiz is actually a super racist arab chauvanist especially considering he maintains the superiority of the arab blacks over the southeast african ones (zanj) which mcleod handles as internalised antiblackness but this is fallacious because it obviously presumes that all black people are the same which is not true and was not considered to be true in arabia at this time (for example ethiopians were well-respected and had had long relations with the arabs since forever (al jahiz was half ethiopian))
also mcleod agrees that white skin was also taken as a marker of low status during al jahiz’s time, although he claims not as much so as (non-arab) black skin (although again mcleod does not make this distinction assuming arabs to have been light skinned)
but regardless he was writing at a time when “pure” black arabs were being persecuted and de-statused as a matter of state policy
then williams traces the gradual de-arabisation of the prophet by the persians, then the peoples of the lands acquired from the byzantines in early centuries, then the lkhanids, then the ottomans, all of which were pretty light skinned

10 Questions (x3)
It occurred to me that I could just compile these and like...not spam people’s dashboards??? What a concept, right?
So, I was tagged by @lilamina and @dabiyyahwrites and @sirilikestowrite in three different versions. It’s so exciting that you all are interested and thinking of me!! I love it!! Thank you!
Some of the Q’s I’ve answered similarly in other tags, so I cut those ones out. At some point in here there will be a cut to keep this from becoming an anaconda. On with the show!
Questions:
1. What’s your MC’s theme song?
Sterling’s is Patterns by Band of Skulls.
3. Who would direct your WIP as a movie?
No one. Everyone I liked before has ruined themselves.
4. Who would you cast as your MC?
Nobody looks like any of my OCs. But I think Amanda Seyfried could pull off Sterling's characterization.
5. What’s your MC’s go-to karaoke song?
Man I’ve never thought about it...maybe Sterling and Levi would duet “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better”?
7. What’s your fave writing spot?
Mah bed.
8. What’s your fave line of description in your wip?
My favorite recent line of description is:
She scours him, the slender muscles in his folded arms, the way his tee shirt hangs along his curved collarbones, his soft, feminine lips.
         “Yeah, I’ve seen you before.”
He’s hard to miss. Masculine-boned and well-built, but delicately drawn. The shape of his chin, those lips, and the grace of his neck are pretty enough to tip the scales toward androgyny, and that always catches her eye.
9. What’s your fave line of dialogue in your wip?
So many. But this is the most relevant rn:
But Levi just says, “so before you learn anything, even a stance, I’m going to show you how to get in touch with the aether. We’re about to get into some seriously Wordworthian bullshit, are you ready for that?”
10. Who’s your fave minor character in your wip?
Milton Devereaux. He’s my lil punk rock philosopher boi.
9. Are your OC’s fountain pen, pencil, or sharpie people?
Greyson is pencil, Sterling is pen, Levi is sharpie.
8. Are any of your OC’s religious/spiritual?
No, my dragons’ society is pretty atheistic. Sterling worships only herself, Greyson doesn’t think about it much, and Levi becomes sort of spiritual as he starts doing magic, but generally no.
5. Do you prefer writing protagonists or antagonists?
Anti heroes. And I like to write protagonists that are each other's antagonists (Sterling/Greyson are a good example)
6. What would be your favorite OC’s answer to the trolley problem? (You’re driving a bus/trolley/etc. The brakes are broken. On the tracks in front of you are five people who cannot get off the track. You can switch tracks, but on that track is one person who can’t get off the track. Do they do nothing and hit the five people or switch tracks and hit the one person?)
Levi would hit the one person. It’s not a hard choice.
1.       Is there a recurring trope in your writing?
Um...child prodigies and dragons
3.       If you could live in any fantasy world, where would you, and why?
Lord of the Rings, because Rohan and horses and talking trees and orcs
4.       Which book you read changed your life the most?
That’s such a strong phrase, I don’t really know. Twilight really changed my perspective of what people were allowed to write. Song of the Lioness taught me about how amazing female characters could be. Nora Roberts taught me about pretty words.
6.       Which of your OCs is the most problematic? Do they try to change their actions or do they like the ‘negative’ action they get?
So, I try very hard to just...not write characters that are racist/sexist/classist/lgbtqaphobic/fascist, all that. Not because I don’t believe those people exist and need to be pushed against, but because I don’t want them in my art, and I don’t want to even take the risk of someone reading my work and modeling their behavior after a character like that.
However, Sterling will always be problematic in the sense that she’s a bad person and a murderer. She’s not discriminatory or bigoted in her violence, but she’s still a fucking killer. She also doesn’t have enough of a conscious to care about not being a lying manipulative murderer. She likes herself that way. So I just try to be clear that she is a bad person even though Levi loves her. Greyson is helpful in this because he doesn’t drink the Kool-Aid.
7.       If your OCs could live in a different time/place/universe, where would they want to live and why?
Man I have no idea. Levi and Sterling would probably really like to be Romans. Sterling might’ve also liked to hang with Lord Byon. Greyson would like to be an old Byzantine horticulturist or something. Cleary I haven’t thought about this much.
8.       Would you like to meet your OCs in person and how would they react if they met you?
Nooooo, no I don’t think so. Sterling would kill me, Levi would yell at me but also huggle me, and Greyson would puke nearby. It would be way too big a trip.
10.   How do you balance your life and your writing? Do you use any methods or do you go with the flow?
I...what is this balance you speak of? Flow? There is something different than alternating phases of “i want to do nothing” and “I MUST DO EVERYTHING.” No but n all serious, I’m just now learning, at 20 years old, hw to balance anything. I try to just go by A and B days. Do a little of this every A day, a little of that every B day.

Commission Info
All prices are in USD, and processed via Paypal. The commission form can be found here. If you have any further questions, you can reach me via my askbox, Tumblr messenger, or via email at [email protected]. Please do feel free to reach out! I’m not at all inclined to bite. I do not sell to users under the age of 19. Writing I’ll write most things. I specialize in fantasy/sci-fi, general, angst, hurt/comfort, fix-its, dialogue-heavy works, and stylized character studies, but strive to be a flexible and adaptable writer. I love your OCs. Yes, yours. I am LGBTQIA2 friendly. NSFW, poly ships, crossovers, x/Reader, and AUs are all a-okay. Violence, horror, and gore, also on the menu. For a list of the fandoms I’m familiar with, click here. When in doubt, feel free to ask! My inbox is a safe space, and while I reserve the right to decline a request, I will always do so in a polite and respectful manner. I reserve the right to decline any commission/editing request which contains the following:
Non-con
Raceplay
Bestiality
RPF (historical RPF exempted)
Underage NSFW
A/B/O
Writing samples can be found on my AO3. NSFW samples can be supplied upon request. I am also available for hire as an editor. I have a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature, and am a recent graduate of a post-graduate publishing program. I’m a trained copyeditor and proofreader with industry experience. I even fact-check, if that’s something you need. Fees
Writing $0.03 per word. I will never charge you if I write outside your specified word count of my own volition. ($15 for 500 words, $30 for 1000). Editing $0.05 per word. ($25 for 500 words, $50 for $1000) $2.50 for a second pass after you’ve made your changes, payable in advance. Multi-chapter I will only consider multi-chapter works under 25k words (ex. 5 chapters at 5000 words per chapter). Prices negotiable, as a commission of that length would be a large time commitment, and require a lot more work on my part. Additional Charges NSFW: +$3.00 (adult themes, no charge) Fandoms New to Me: +$3.50 Research Required (ex. You want an AU set in the Byzantine Empire, you want me to read that book you love): +$3.50 Discounts Favoured Fandoms (marked with an asterisk*): -$2.00 Rare-pairs/Obscure Fandoms (100 fics or less on AO3): -$2.00
Process
You fill out the commission form and send it to me.
I accept the commission and we arrange payment.
I send a WIP within the first 24-72 hours after I'm paid, along with some info about the full turnaround time.
You approve the WIP and the timeline, and I get to work.
I send another WIP once the work is nearly complete to make everything’s fine and dandy.
I send the finished product (I can do .pdf, .doc, .epub, you name it). After you’ve seen it, I’ll make any final tweaks that you may request. With your permission (and only with your permission), I may choose to post the work on AO3. If you’d like to remain anonymous, I’ll not mention your name in my Author’s Note. With fiction, I’d like it if you credited me in the event that you repost it anywhere. In the case of editing work, it is, of course, all yours, but you’re welcome to link out to me.
