C!Techno being afraid to die but equally, if not more afraid of Phil dying hits so hard sometimes. The idea that Dying is the worst thing that could happen to you - except, god forbid, your best friend dying first. The idea that c!Techno’s main fear wasn’t necessarily dying, it was being left alone. So much so that while he was terrified of death, and did everything in his power to prevent his own death, he was willing to risk it over Phil’s life every. Single. Time.
He freaks out over every threat to Phil. Every baby zombie, the house arrest, all of doomsday. And the way Phil acts tells us Techno has always been like this - he takes Techno’s coddling as if he’s long since given up trying to prove to him that he can survive on his own, that he can hold his own in a fight - which Phil proves to us basically every fight he’s in. He takes the totem from Techno and keeps it in his hand because “I didn’t want you to get nervous”, he accepts his task as sideliner and chaos-causer, stays out of the main fray, keeps himself alive and unharmed over starting or winning a fight (with a player, that is.).
Phil isn’t as good at PVP as Techno is. I think we can all agree on that, and that Phil himself would say the same. But he’s not bad. Not even a little! Phil possesses a skill in fighting that I think most people lack - the ability to sense when to hit the bricks. Phil knows when a fight isn’t going his way, and he fucking dips. And he’s usually successful in disengaging from a fight as well - which is also a really important PVP skill. You can know when to leave and still not be able to (hi. Hi. I die in pvp a lot. You’ll never guess why.) Phil is also great with a bow, good with a shield, good with a sword, and for all intents and purposes, very proficient in every new fighting skill that one would need in a PVE setting, which is most of them. He’s worked with TNT, Withers, killed the dragon plenty, etc. he’s well able to fight.
But c!Techno is so, so terrified of being left alone in this world that he protects Phil from every threat he can, and some that he can’t. And C!Phil humors him, because let’s be real, the only other option would be to not be friends with the guy.
C!Techno is so scared to die. And he’s so much more petrified of doing it alone.

c!techno and food and the rules of hospitality is so interesting to me because he shows a lot of care and love through food. he comes to pogtopia and creates a potato farm to feed his new allies, he gathers dandelions to make suspicious stew with saturation so these new friends stay fuller longer. he keeps food on him and gives golden carrots to c!ranboo when they need it.
and minecraft as a medium for storytelling is perfect to show this aspect of a character, food as a love language if you will, because a core mechanic of the game is food and eating! it was honestly such a small but brilliant character choice and i applaud cc!techno for it.

Okay i NEEEED to rant about Pogtopia because I know it was a ravine and shit but I need people to consider: lava caves
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(all photos taken by me cause I explored one the other day and that’s where I got this idea)
Lava caves or lava tubes are HUGE super long caves that were carved out by literal lava flows and now just sit there and they’re cool as fuck
they’re cold as shit and the roof can vary from being dozens of feet above your head to being so low you have to crouch
there’s piles of rocks and ice formations and sand gardens and they are PITCH BLACK if you don’t have any lights and they paths can be crazy wide or super narrow and the ground is full of drop offs
ones that are made for people to explore have railings and stairs in certain places too and some even have built in lights or like the one I explored let you rent a flashlight
also a fun sidenote the ground is super hard packed sand full of holes from water dripping and it’s so hard packed that you don’t leave footprints (this would not help with Wilbur’s derealization)
anyways I think this would all work SUPER well for pogtopia cause cold/dark/shifting atmosphere/adding railings and pathways is already a thing in pogtopia
some more images that I yanked from google:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
anyways PLEASEEEE consider spreading my vision Pogtopia lava cave/tubes for the win I’ve never been more right about anything in my life

The interaction that takes place between Sam and Techno at the start of his prison visit is arguably one of Sam's strangest moments. He seems close to not even letting Techno in.
So, Sam's weird behavior, in order:
TECHNO: Hello. SAM: Technoblade? TECHNO: Hi! Is this the warden? SAM: Yes. TECHNO: Yoo, mister warden, what's up! Can you come out to talk to me? I'm trying to visit this prison! SAM: You're trying to visit the prison? TECHNO: Yeah, man! I mean, I heard everyone else was visiting the prison, and I just— I wanted to be included, y'know. SAM: Okay, yeah. You can go ahead and go through the portal.
At the beginning of this interaction, Sam's tone suggests that he didn't expect to see Techno here. When Techno says he wants to visit the prison, Sam sounds confused and reluctant, but decides to let Techno in anyway, despite no visitors other than Quackity being allowed into the prison at this time.
SAM: Hm. I heard you might come for a visit. [CUT] TECHNO: I'm trying to visit Dream! Can we get that arranged, y'know? I know I didn't call ahead, but, like... SAM: There's— I'm not really letting anyone visit Dream right now.
When Techno enters the prison lobby, Sam implies that he got a warning from someone—which we can assume to be Quackity—that Techno would arrive. This is after Sam acting confused about Techno's arrival just sixty seconds ago. Then, when Techno says he wants to visit Dream, Sam says he's not letting anyone do that, despite already letting Techno in to do exactly that. Which other prisoner did Sam expect him to visit, Connor?
TECHNO: One second, everyone's yelling at me to make you louder on discord. [CUT] TECHNO: So anyways, you said you were gonna let me visit Dream! That's fantastic! *chuckles* SAM: Well, we weren't letting anyone visit Dream. TECHNO: [overlapping] Yo, yo, Sam, mister warden, sir. SAM: [overlapping] Why do you want to visit Dream? TECHNO: Believe me, I know what your concerns are, and don't you worry. I already got my parents to sign the permission slip. I can go on this field trip, alright? *pulls out Quackity's note and hands it to Sam* I got— I got a voucher. SAM: *quietly* Okay. *louder* Well, there's some things we have to do, if you want to enter the prison.
We see Sam's continued reluctance around allowing Techno's visit to take place, right up until he's presented with a "permission slip" from Quackity, at which point Sam hesitantly agrees to it. Even after it's been implied that Sam and Quackity discussed and planned this exact situation beforehand, Sam won't actually honor the agreement until he sees it in writing. This also comes with the implication that Quackity knew that Sam was looking for any reason at all to turn Techno away, and took all the measures he could to prevent that from happening.
The result is that we get a Sam who doesn't seem to have made his mind up yet about what he's going to do. He doesn't want to make Quackity mad, but he also *really* doesn't want to have anything to do with Techno. Could any of this conversation have been an act? To convince Techno that Sam was oblivious to his arrival and therefore had no malicious intentions? Eh, it's possible. But it looks more to me like Sam is trying to wriggle out of whatever arrangement he made with Quackity by playing the ignorance card, not caring how strange his behavior is coming across.

So, if in the finale c!Dream’s helmet, that he takes off for c!Tommy, represents his mask, does that mean that when c!Sapnap puts on c!Dream’s armor, Nightmare, he is putting on and stealing c!Dream’s mask? - Because I’m not gonna lie that really puts a new perspective on that betrayal… Furthermore, when c!Techno brings c!Dream armor in prison, did he make him a mask and bring it to him… and then take away the mask later? - If so, again that’s kinda screwed up. Though you could argue that perhaps he made c!Dream a mask for the jailbreak so he had one to face the server with and then because they were trying to not seem like allies he took it back, knowing that c!Dream would get another one. Which also begs the question, did c!Punz make c!Dream a mask for after prison or is he simply handing over one of c!Dream’s masks?… When c!Tommy in the minecart skirmish stole c!Dream’s armor, was he taunting him with his own mask? - Because oof that’s some serious violation and disrespect…
In other words, if you think that c!Dream’s helmet in the finale represents the mask (which I’d say is implied by c!Tommy) does that same logic apply across the board or is it just for that moment? And if it does apply to rest of the lore, wow does that have some implications…

I have one theory on why Tommy gets to be a damsel in fanfics a lot. (And why that is not stopping any time soon, thankfully.)
In canon, Tommy was a damsel. But he was never saved. Instead, he had to save himself *and* others. He was the one to reach out. He was the one who helps. He was the one who fought for others and tried his damn best to make sure they were safe.
Now, you might be thinking; *Didn’t Techno save Tommy from exile by taking him in?*
And to that, I say no.
Techno did provide shelter and defend Tommy from Dream. That was amazing. But that was always transactional. Techno offered Tommy (as the latter was walking away, I might add) a place to stay *if* he helped Techno with this plan to get his stuff back and do some “minor” terrorism.
Techno did not save Tommy. Tommy saved himself and then he and Techno made a deal.
Tommy was always the one who did the saving, even in the finale. He made the plan to use the discs to save himself and Tubbo. He made the plan to sacrifice himself to kill Dream and Punz. He extended a hand to Dream of all people.
He was a damsel who was forced to save others when he needed saving himself.
And that is why a lot of fanfic writers write that he has someone to rely on. Someone who steps in for him unconditionally when he needed help.

Since c!Techno has confirmed that he has only one life saying that it is the case for everyone "where I come from", and we know of one other person sharing this quality AND a connection with c!Techno in c!Philza, we can now assume that c!Techno is from a Hardcore world. Which doesn't leave us with that many options! In fact I believe there is only one.
Thus c!Techno canonicaly beat up an Ender Dragon with a steering wheel, in this essay I will...

I've been thinking about him a lot while I rewatch bits and pieces and it just... it compels me still? There's so much there I can still talk about or think about or pick apart it's AAAA

Okay, so Technoblade, right? I really love all the blood god/god of war/god of justice/god of covenant concepts, but Trade is always the one that stuck out to me. A while ago I said this:
Tumblr media
So I'm gonna elaborate now. Long long post warning!
Trade with villagers: I think what started this idea for me was the amount of time he spends in villages and also my mental association of Techno and piglins. When he was setting up his trade system in dsmp he didn't set up farmer villagers even though he almost exclusively ate golden carrots. And he didn't set that up because there was a village nearby that already had farmers. It was one of the few cases I saw of a minecrafter treating villages like established communities, where you go because of their skill in a trade and respect the villagers for their established community, and then find sources for other materials on your own. A bit of a tangent, but Techno has more respect for mobs than most players, to the point where it's noticeable in his playstyle, and occasionally at disadvantage to him. Anyways, Technoblade trades in and out of his established trading hall, foregoing more efficient trades for the value of an established community. But still, the interactions are transactional. He goes to the village, trades, leaves. Heals zombie villagers, gets better deals from it, trades, leaves.
Why not a god of death or war?: you see, I don't think that saying Techno is a god of trade is saying that he isn't a god of blood or death or war. I think it just broadens what topics he covers and explains some of his behavior in a different context. If you think about it, what is death other than an exchange from life to death caused by an action? In many cases in the dsmp, Techno's violence is the result of a threat. His life and survival came at the cost of those that were threatening it. This is complicated by his principles on the dsmp but much more obvious on smp!earth, where the policy of the Antarctic Empire was very much "an eye for an eye". But even in the umpteenth war with Tommy in smp!earth he still prioritized negotiation and fair terms. The analogy falls apart a bit when considering the hypixel games, until you consider that life in that server literally converts to coins that can be used in trades.
Hospitality: this is another one I really want to discuss. Technoblade explicitly states on the dsmp (i think around when tommy shows up in his house) that he follows the principle of Xenia. Xenia is a Greek principle of hospitality or "guest friendship" focused on providing protection and generosity to guests by moral obligation as the host. Importantly, xenia is rooted in the importance of reciprocity, and Techno greatly values reciprocity. This is part of what made Tommy siding with Tubbo again such a betrayal to Technoblade. Techno at that point was providing hospitality and protection under a moral obligation, with an expectation of equal understanding that just wasn't there. This concept is also reflected when he says "Those that have treated me with kindness, I will repay that kindness tenfold. And those that treat me with injustice? That use me?! That hunt me down, that hurt my friends? I will repay that injustice a thousand time over" There is the expectation of repaid kindness and exchanged favors that treats interactions like trades. But in this case, the trades between justice and injustice are not equal to the trades of kindness.
This is because Technoblade also trades in trust (hello god of the covenant enjoyers. Love y'all). And when injustice is dealt, not only are the expectations of hospitality and returned favors broken, but so is the trust placed in that person. And trust is a very valuable thing to trade away.
I don't think Technoblade views everything as a transaction. However, I do think that the treatment of his character in the DSMP heavily favors this perspective and that aspects of a transactional view were adopted by his character as a defense mechanism to survive in that world. This brings me to my next topic
Technoblade as "The Blade": This is seen in several other series' where Techno is treated as a weapon or a sort of bargaining piece more than a person. This is most evident in the DSMP, since most other situations involve Technoblade as part of a team. The other examples that come to mind are Techno being added to the ultimate uhc charity event in replacement of two people, Techno being targeted in mcm and other events with no intervention to stop cross teaming by his opponents, and Wilbur offering to let the rest of the Antarctic Empire off free if Techno took all of the blame for taking over the world.
Now to the DSMP. Techno trades his own life as the blade, as a sell sword. He joins Pogtopia even though he wouldn't have been invited to Pogtopia and his reputation precedes him. He trades skill and time for what he thinks is support for goals similar to his own. But even when he is gathering supplies ans farming he gains the nickname "the blade." He is seen as a weapon, summoned for battle, and otherwise treated more like a sell sword than as someone who joined the resistance for his own reasons. Later, he is called an animal and a pig by the butcher army and leaves his retirement in order to survive. Once again he trades peace for war largely due to the perception of others that he is a tool of violence. His reputation on the server preceded his personhood to many. This is especially important after the revengers' stream, when it is revealed that Technoblade only had one life the entire time he was on the server. And at this point Technoblade also reveals that he now thinks that his life is worth it to stand by his values. Technoblade, always treated as a weapon and a means to an end, views his own life as a reasonable cost for his values.
And Technoblade values life and trust almost as much as he values freedom from oppression, but he always prioritizes his values.
In the DSMP Technoblade gives Ranboo a place to stay after doomsday. He trades his safety in his isolation to help another person. He trades favors with Dream but does not trade his obligation to Tommy as a guest for that favor. Philza talks about life over objects, Technoblade values life and freedom over disagreement, since one of his main values is the ability to choose and live freely.
Technoblade trades himself. Trades his trust. Trades his time. Over and over and over again, just to get closer to the world he's trying to reach. He trades isolation for trust gradually. He trades good treaties for his empire for mutually beneficial ones. He trades time and effort for growth. He trades hospitality and protection at the cost of his own safety for the lives of others. He trades, and he trades, and he trades, and the others around him are constantly affected by it, as is he.

I’m sorry, I just have to talk about c!Techno and c!Punz because I can’t stop thinking about them. Please let me talk about c!Techno and c!Punz. They literally interact once, with the Butcher Army/attempted execution fiasco, and they don’t even talk then. They are almost completely unrelated. There’s no reason to think (or talk) about the two of them and their relationships with each other, at least not based on what is explicitly stated in canon.
But they’re surprisingly similar, and the way other people see them mirror each other. They are both extremely loyal and are deeply involved with c!Dream and are seen as weapons, tools that can be bought and used without any regard for their opinions on the matter. But the way their loyalty is expressed is different, and their relationships with c!Dream are different, and the way they react to be dehumanized are different, and I want to talk about that a little bit because I just can’t stop thinking about them please help.
c!Techno doesn’t like c!Punz. He doesn’t like the fact that they’re complicit in just about everything (including multiple governments and completely unrelated public executions) and the goodwill they got from saving him from the Butcher Army didn’t last very long, especially because he knows they only got involved because c!Dream told them to/paid them to. His opinion of them only further sours after the Eggpire, because, even if they weren’t there for the Red Banquet, they were still working with the Egg. In AUs where c!Punz ends up helping c!Techno (especially if c!Dream is involved), Techno does not trust them one bit and suspects they’re just playing the long con so they can sell him and Dream and the Syndicate out. In versions where Punz tells Techno everything, including the Staged Finale, he thinks they were stupid for not saying no, you can’t do that, to Dream.
So c!Techno doesn’t like, or trust, c!Punz. But it’s more than just that. c!Techno sees c!Punz as the opposite of him, the person he would hate to be and the person he fears he is, the person who everyone treats him as and expects him to be. A tool, a weapon, something you can buy with some coins or a sob story and point in the direction of your enemies. c!Techno fights so hard against the dehumanization that he faces, reinstates over and over again that he’s a person, not just The Blade; c!Punz accepts that conception of them, leans into it, because it keeps them safe and stops people from asking questions and provides plausible deniability. But, for c!Techno, c!Punz is exactly what their facade is, and that means c!Punz is exactly what he refuses to become.
c!Techno doesn’t like thinking about c!Punz.
c!Punz doesn’t like c!Techno. They don’t like the way that c!Techno broke c!Dream out of prison just to take away his armor and abandon him; they don’t like the fact that he broke c!Dream out so late. They’re tightly strung and hold grudges and need someone to blame so they can distract themself from what the hell is going on, what the fuck was happening in that prison, especially because they don’t know who they can blame for this but Sam and themself and everyone who let them happen. c!Techno’s a better target for their wrath because he’s safely out of reach and c!Punz knows they could never act on it. Just bottle up your anger and stick to the plan.
But it’s not just that they hate him either. c!Punz hates c!Techno, sure, but they’re also jealous of him. c!Techno can be angry and get upset and let other people know about it. c!Techno can get revenge. c!Techno can protect the people he loves. c!Techno can assert his humanity. And c!Punz can’t do any of those things, or, at least, they’re not allowed to.
c!Dream thought that c!Techno was powerful enough to be openly aligned with. c!Dream thought c!Techno was powerful and dangerous enough that he would let him break him out of Pandora’s, banked on c!Techno getting him out, and c!Dream would never let c!Punz do anything like that. c!Dream calls c!Techno a friend despite everything he’s gone through and struggles so much to do the same to c!Punz.
(Deep down, c!Punz almost wishes they were c!Techno)

RELIGION? IN MY DSMP? MORE LIKELY THEN YOU THINK
Anyways would you like to have a debate like Ancient Greek scholars about religious imagery on the DSMP
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“…and every revival only births a perversion of the original, and yet a return to form and renewal of the mission. Wilbur brought back to ambition, Tommy to fear, Techno to anarchy. This is because they were not properly revived through holy means, instead in symbols associated with satanic imagery; a grimoire, a totem. The revival book’s association with Dream echos ideas of Satan offering power that ultimately corrupts. Other symbols of Christianity show up beyond souls, revival, and satanic imagery, likewise tied to Dream. In the garden of Eden—”
“Golden apple as a symbol of the temptation of power! Of course of course! Knowledge as power, the fall of man from grace. This shows particular on the summit meeting between Techno and Dream, wherein a god apple is given by Dream. This falls neatly into parallel with Eden, where Eve is lured with the promise of having the same wisdom and thus power as god. It is the temptation presented, power promised in the same breath as suffering and conflict…”

I’m still working on fleshing them out, but I did decide to use the urls I snagged, so
If you’re interested in more Schlatt apologism -> @schladhd
If you’re interested in c!phil apologism -> @cphilapologist
If you’d like to see techno content -> @bellringdotwav
I’m gonna be slowly filling them with my previous analysis of those characters, and then more generalized analysis of Minecraft itself or other characters will stay here. I’ll also still be queuing art here too, there’ll just be even more at those urls :3
Oh, and if you want to see me clown on sneeg -> @sneegsnagisntreal

the reason that c!techno is actually such a good character is because he did get exactly what he wanted through violent means. that was very much a thing that happened.
but afterwards, he still wanted to change and be better. he was shown violence worked but he went to c!niki and said 'this isn't what it should be about and i need to be a better example and i'm gonna work on that'.
it wasn't perfect. he wasn't perfect but he's a good example of someone deciding to change and better themself solely because it was the right thing to do.

Something something something about the juxtaposition of Wilbur telling Tommy they'll fight with words vs Technoblade telling Tommy the only universal language is violence.
Like, people put them together as villains for blowing up L'manberg but their characters are literally so different. cc!Wilbur and cc!Techno both did such an amazing job at writing their characters.

Thinking about how all throughout his time housing c!Tommy in the second half of his exile c!Techno was routinely running into c!Dream, but hiding Tommy from him. Techno kept secrets from one of the only people who was usually on his side, not working with him nearly at all. But it was worth it to Techno cuz in his eyes him and Tommy were finally on the same side against a common enemy(Tubbo)!
But then after a single, quick reunion, Tommy turned his back on him, stood with Tubbo again against everything Techno knew about Tommy’s experiences (not much, but that ain’t his fault). And once again Techno was the feared enemy surrounded by people who hated him, even the kid he had given so much to protect.
While I’m sure the story would’ve been different if Techno knew the full extent of Tommy’s exile, it makes perfect sense to me that Techno would go back to Dream. He had already gone through the execution, seen the effects of Wilbur’s death, lived through Manburg, L’manburgs influence still plagued his life and threatened his security. He was retreating back to those he could trust and knew would look out for him, not look at him like a monster or a weapon.
Sorry guys I know it’s been a long time since I brought up this morality debate but I still think man’s was so valid.

So um, in light of my last post I was inspired to look into other dsmp people's ages because I feel like we don’t really think about it too often and oh does it make things interesting…
Just for reference and consideration, here are some United States Legal Age Minimums:
Drive: 16-18
Adult: 18-21
Vote: 18
Drink Alcohol: 21
Political Office: 25 (Representative) 30 (Senator) 35 (President)
Military: 17-18
Also Note: On average the brain is scientifically not fully developed until age 25 - and oh wouldn't you know it 90% of the server fall under that, meaning no wonder we have a bunch of wars their prefrontal cortex isn't fully developed and wouldn't you know it that part of the brain is responsible for regulating attention, behavior, and emotion as well as the processing that Actions Have Consequences... huh whelp that makes sense.
Anyways… age data is below (I didn't do everyone nor every event - nobody got time for that ;D... I didn't have time for this to begin with lol...) But I specifically want to highlight that not only was Dream 21 from Jan-Aug of his Imprisonment, but Sam was also 21 till Jun, and Quackity was literally 20 while he was daily torturing Dream... 20?! They were roughly a year apart, all of them so close. Like can you imagine, treating your peer like that? Sam is like a couple months older than Dream and that's it. Quackity can't even drink legally in the United States. That's insane...
