Suggesting to the anon using sheds to measure their snake: try using a string (or several tied together) to measure your snake, and then compare how far up they are on that to an appropriate measuring device! It's not perfect by any means but I think it'd be closer than a shed? (I am also someone who likes using my sheds to see how much my snake has grown from last time though!)

A cloth measuring tape or string are both effective, or there's a web-based tool offered by SerpWidgets that allows you to take a photo of your snake next to a measuring device and then upload the photo and trace the snake's body to compare it to your measuring device. It's a really neat tool and I've used it many times with pretty reliable accuracy and minimal inconvenience to my snakes.
