THEY'RE SO SILLY
The baker and the chameleon...sobbing...
Nah, but I've been meaning to write this for a while. I haven't done much for the spouses of the mama Isa au. Actually, if y'all have any ideas for the spouses (or parents) let me know because I really need to do more for them and do more info on them
ANYWAYYYYYY YEAH <3333 Camilo finally built up enough courage and planned for weeks for this day lmao. They're so ψ(`∇´)ψ
LES GET IT
-----
Camilo fiddled with the small box in his pocket. He did his best to prevent himself from transforming into anyone else. Though, he knew Cereza would recognize him anyway. She always saw through his Gift, and always recognized him. No matter who he was. He didn't know how, maybe by some magic, but she always saw just...him.
He looked around. Waiting. Searching for her. He knew his family was somewhere nearby, watching him, waiting to watch him pop the question to her. Of course he didn't mind, it put him at ease that they were there for him, to support him. He loved his family more than anything, and he wanted Cereza to be apart of that.
Camilo reached in his pocket, opening up the small black box. He opened it carefully, looking inside of at the ring. His sister-- Luisa's husband, Oriano, had made it. Camilo asked after seeing the rings he made for Isabela and her husband and later Luisa and himself. Camilo was so excited when Oriano accepted, and he was even more happy when he had gotten the ring a couple weeks prior to this day.
His fingers traced the small etchings on the gold ring. It was the first letter of Cereza's name and Camilo's, 2 C's intertwined, along with the day they met. Camilo had a second ring on standby, in the hopes that she said yes. It had taken him weeks to get her ring measurement, because Cereza didn't wear much jewelry, especially on her hands. Mostly due to the fact that she was a baker, of course. Another thing he loved about her.
He fiddled with the box. He was half tempted to go inside Casita and ask his tía Lola when Cereza was coming. Of course, he knew she would come, she always did. But that didn't make him any less nervous.
He was terrified, actually.
He and Cereza had actually talked about getting married. And he genuinely wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. But he couldn't help but go through the hundreds of different scenarios. Scenarios of the best and worst case scenario. He wanted the best case scenario. For her to say yes, and they happily get married and she join the Madrigal family officially. He already had his mamá, Isabela's blessing, and the blessing of Cereza's father.
"Camilo?" Camilo jumped, shoving the box into his pocket and turning around. He was so distracted he didn't even notice Cereza had walked up behind him.
"Cereza!" He said, a awkward smile on his face. "You're here!"
"Yeah, sorry I'm late. We had a really big work order and it took forever for us to clean up," Cereza explained, shrugging. "So what's up? How come you called me here? Not that I mind."
Camilo glanced towards Casita, where he knew the family was waiting. His hands felt sweaty, is this what Mirabel's hands were like? He pulled on the fringes of his poncho, taking a deep breath.
"There is...something I wanna talk about," Camilo said, his face growing serious. Cereza faltered, her eyebrows furrowing. Camilo rarely pulled a serious face, so it was clearly something important.
"W-Well what is it?" She asked, her chest tightening. She couldn't helo but feel scared. She hoped Camilo wasn't going to say what she thought he was. Not after all this time. They had something special.
Camilo closed his eyes, taking another deep breath before grabbing Cereza's hands.
"Cereza, you know I love you," Camilo said.
Cereza laughed nervously. "O-Of course. I love you too."
Camilo looked down before meeting her eyes again. "No, Cereza, I really do love you. A lot. Ever since I met you and you agreed to go on the date with me. And...you've stuck around for the past 2 years. A-And I really do appreciate it and I love you for it," Camilo felt tears well up in his eyes but he continued. "You are one of most kind and caring people I know. And you know I care about my family more than anything."
Camilo pulled away, albiet reluctantly, and reached into his pocket. Cereza's eyes widened as it slowly dawned on her what was happening. It also explained why her mother was so adamant on her cleaning up before going to see Camilo and why her papá let her leave earlier.
"Camilo...?" Cereza felt tears well up in her eyes, and her nose burned, but she was anything but sad. She couldn't be more happy. "What are you doing?" She asked, half laughing in disbelief and joy.
"Cereza. You are one of the most important people in my life. You are one of, if not the best thing to happen to me since we moved here and I met you," Camilo said gently. His hands were trembling as he got on his knee, opening the box and revealing the ring, which shined in the setting sun. "Cereza Castro, will you marry me?"
Cereza had tears pouring out if her eyes. She didn't say anything, couldn't, her breath caught in her throat. She stared at Camilo, who furrowed his eyebrows. Cereza, not wanting him to get the wrong idea, threw himself into her arms. She basically tackled him to the ground, finally finding her voice.
"Yes, yes!" Cereza exclaimed, smotheeing Camilo in kisses. "I will marry you Camilo Madrigal!"
Camilo looked shocked, but quickly laughed, hugging her back. He carefully put the ring on her finger and kissed her. The two stood, and it didn't take long for the rest of the family to come out, congratulating them. Cereza was surprised to see her family there too. She had found it strange how only her parents were at the bakery and left almost immediately after she did, but seeing her siblings so happy for her made her so happy.
Camilo and Cereza were brought inside, where a party had been set up. It was a surprise to Cereza and Camilo, because initially, Camilo thought it was a small gathering and Cereza didn't even know. But they didn't care.
Cereza was immediately pulled into a hug by her parents, and her siblings bombarded her with questions about the now upcoming wedding. Camilo watched her with a soft smile.
"You just got engaged and your already oogling her," Mirabel said, holding her infant daughter in her arms. Camilo stuck his tongue out at her. But his younger sister was right.
"Yeah ok. Like you didn't do the same with Vasco," Camilo said teasingly, shifting into her husband before he quickly shifted back, and she rolled her eyes playfully.
Both Luisa and Mirabel and their respective husband, and even Antonio, were teasing Camilo, but the four were quickly shooed away by Pepa and Félix. Pepa had tears in her eyes and Félix looked proud.
"Ay, mi nieto," Pepa said, pressing a kiss onto Camilo's forehead.
"Abuela," Camilo whined, and Félix shooed away her cloud.
"We're proud of you Camilo," Félix smiled amd Camilo returned it, he felt proud too. He had been so excited but so scared. But he knew that Cereza was the one for him, and he couldn't be more happy that they were going to be married.
Pepa and Félix walked off, joining the rest of the party and Cereza joined him again, leaning in his arm. Camilo kissed her head, holding her hand tightly. He could feel tge ring on her finger and he looked down at her. It felt so surreal. He had proposed to his now fiancee, and they were going ti be married. It was like a dream. A dream he never wanted to wake up from.
Camilo's gaze was pulled away when he saw his mamá, Isabela, and her husband, his papá, Canelo, walking over. Isabela handed Isabela a bouquet of flowers, and hugged the woman tightly.
"I can't wait for you to be my daughter," Isabela said and Cereza smiled up at Isabela. Isabela fawned and fussed over Cereza while Canelo congratulated Camilo and praised him. The matriarch finally turned to Camilo, with tears in her eyes.
"You have to promise to take care of her, ok?" Isabela said, and Camilo nodded. "And take care of my grandbabies if you have any."
"I will. Just like you mamá," Camilo whispered, and Isavela felt tears fall. Small flowers sprouted in her braid, and she peppered Camilo's face with kisses before she reluctantly pulled away, being led away by Canelo back to the party.
Camilo held Cereza close, holding her hand in his. As the two joined the rest of the families in party, Camilo hoped that this dream would never end.

For silenced: Is anyone going to try to stop Dolores?
Dolores is halted in her action. It gives her a moment to breathe and for her temper to cool, as her eyes find the source. Mirabel’s hand gripping onto her arm. Her primita is panting (as quietly as she can), clearly out of breath from chased after her on such little legs, but trying to keep calm and internally plead with Dolores.
They’ve done this before.
Staring each other down until the other gives in? That has happened a lot. It comes with being intellectual equals and awfully stubborn, the adults use to say. But more specifically, in relation to the miracle and her gift, Mirabel once caught her on her way to blow out the candle.
It couldn’t have been too long after Camilo’s ceremony, where his role of being an entertainer came to fruition and suddenly noise increased tenfold in Encanto. She had tried to do her best to deal with it. She’d adapt in time. That’s what they said, that’s what they promised her. But each minute, each hour, each day, each week, proved them to be nothing but excuses. This wasn’t something a child could bear.
And it’s not something a child should have to bear either. Most children, those who are fortunate or unfortunate enough to not be born Madrigals, have no gifts. No blessings or need for such responsibilities. Having a miracle was not a normal thing and perhaps, for the first time, Dolores was at an age where she fully understood that. Perhaps that’s why she tried to blow the candle out at the time. She doesn’t quite remember now.
The days before Mirabel’s ceremony seem like dreams. They could be real, they are real, but it doesn’t feel like it.
The adults were busy in the garden at the time, entertained by Camilo’s impressions of them. Isabela was sat in front of Abuela, who carefully braided pink flowers into her hair, and Luisa was helping her father not get his fingers caught in one of the foldable chairs.
Dolores tiptoed her way quietly through Casita, hands clasped in prayer - asking that God, in his kindness, would grant her this one blessing. Let her blow out the magical candle and lose her gift. Let her be free of this burden.
No sooner had she reached for the doorknob of Abuela’s door, had Mirabel suddenly grasped her hand. Smiling, the almost-five-year-old was giggling with excitement about having learnt the “C” scale on the piano and if Dolores would be kind enough to listen, to see if she was any good like her or Tío Agustín.
If Mirabel had appeared only a second later, she would have gotten in and been able to make things right. Hell, she would have saved her cousin all the trouble of her gift ceremony going wrong in a few weeks time. But God had decided not to let her do this. She was bitter. Every chance she had was always ruined, similarly.
And now… she has her chance.
Mirabel, for her part, doesn’t say a word, just stares imploringly.
By this point, the rest of the family have also appeared, gathered amongst the crowd of townspeople. Camilo and Isabela are still floating nearby each other, Luisa a step or so behind them. Abuela looks apologetic to the silent voices asking for her to help them. Tío Bruno looks to be mouthing “sorry” to Señora Pezmuerto and Padre Flores, which might be ironic giving their history. Antonio has been entrusted to the care of Tía Julieta and Tío Agustín, allowing her parents to once again try to reach her.
Mirabel presses her thumb gently against the pulse point in Dolores’ wrist, refocusing her attention on her. Grounding her.
Where’s your mind at, Lola?
I don’t know… Strange. I don’t like it. Everything is so silent.
It is quiet.
…For now.
I don’t think it counts when nothing has the choice to be quiet, incapable of noise.
I never got a choice. They never gave me a choice.
I know. I’m sorry.
It’s not your fault. You didn’t either.
But we have one now. Long overdue but it’s here.
I don’t.
You do. Think about your choices, you won’t gain anything this way. You admitted yourself the forced silence is uncomfortable.
I… I can’t take that risk of trusting them again.
I know it’s hard, but I will help you through it, I promise. Dolores, you can do it.
There’s a rattle through the crowd. Like an itch in the back of her brain, her ear, that needs to be scratched. They need to be silent.
Her little cousin glances around, panicked, when she starts to hear it. She looks like she’s internally praying for them to be quiet too - how wonderful that she can make that happen for the both of them!
…Dolores?
No.
Don’t think about them. I know they are frustrating; but don’t silence them.
No. I can’t.
Dolores, no, please—
I can’t and won’t stop. This is my gift, I will use it however I see fit. I can finally hear, now that they’ve stopped talking. I can finally hear me!

Encanto Headcanon- Dating Camilo would include... (Camilo Madrigal x GN! Reader)
Hey everyone!! Today I decided to write an Encanto Headcanon about dating Camilo. This is fully based on what I know about the Madrigals and what I imagine dating Camilo would be like. I obviously got some inspiration from other writers, but no one specific.
Anyways, enjoy! -Bar
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dating Camilo Madrigal would include... part 1 (before the movie)
~ You guys met at Luisa’s last birthday, and you looked breathtaking.
~ Camilo couldn’t get himself to go talking to you, so he just adored you from afar as long as he wasn’t focused on Antonio.
~ You saw the cute curly boy around your age playing with Antonio and couldn’t help your smile. It was just too cute!
~ You blushed, hard, when he looked up and met your gaze; you looked away already, so you couldn’t see, but his cheeks turned red, too.
~ “Hey, Mirabel, who’s this?” You asked her and pointed to Camilo.
~ She had a mischievous smile as she told you it’s her cousin, Camilo. What was she palnning?
~ Later that night, Camilo heard from Mirabel you asked about him.
~ “Y\N? Is this the person who was dancing here earlier with Y\F\M (your fav Madrigal except for Camilo)?” -”Yep. They’re right there, go talk to them”
~ You were very surprised when Camilo was tripping to where you set. His face were red and his hair and clothes were messy from the dancing, but you still found him very attractive.
~ Camilo was still stunned by you, but he managed to say a few complete sentences. You were so nice and easy to talk to, his shyness faded away, and you two had a long, enthralling conversation.
~ And of course, once his flirty self came back, he used the countless amount of pickup lines he knew on you.
~ “You know who you’re reminding me of? My next S\O”
~ “Do you believe in love at first tight or I should walk by again?”
~ “I don’t like your last name. You should change it to Madrigal”
~ (and so on...)
~ As you two kept talking and laughing, Camilo couldn’t help falling for you harder and harder.
~ By the end of the night, he knew for sure he’s in love. But he didn’t know if you felt the same, and it made him nervous and anxious.
~ He went to talk to Dolores about it, and ended up getting advices from her and all of his cousins, who had a sleepover.
~ Eventually, they helped him planning how to ask you out, not knowing you just waited for him to do it.
~ Long story short, he asked you out, you said yes, and now he was supposed to take you on your first date.
~ He found the perfect glade and asked Isabela to find out what’s your favorite flower (Isabela: *rolling her eyes* I already know what’s their favorite flower) and grow it all over te place, but leave a space big enough to do picnics or just hang out for a while.
~ Isabela agreed, and the next day everything was ready.
~ Mirabel decorated Camilo’s ruana and your favorite y\f\c\p (your favorite clothing piece- skirt, pants, shirt, etc), Isabela made them a crown of Y\F\F (your favorite flower), Luisa brought a basket full of Julieta’s best foods and desserts and Dolores prepared you to the meeting with the Madrigals- especially Abuela and Pepa.
~ Pepa was excited, of course, when Camilo said you two are going on a date, and Felix made sure she doesn’t rain all over you; but it was hard, considering how excited he also was to see his son going on a date.
~ Everyone were so happy to see Camilo’s smile when he looked at you, and they were excited to know the person Camilo fell in love with.
~ After everyone (and their gifts) were introduced, Camilo took you away. He loved his family, but he knew they would stay there forever if he won’t take you on your date.
~ You started walking in the forest until you found the glare- well, Camilo was walking, you had a blindfold while Luisa carried you after him so it’ll be a surprise. (You weren’t too happy about it, but you were really curious about where he takes you now).
~ When Camilo took off your blindfold, you gasped at the breathtaking sight- thousands of y\f\fs in all of the colors possible were growing at the glare in circles, leaving a little space of emerald-green grass. It was beautiful, amazing, nothing like anything you imagined or seen- and you chose to show your gratefulness by kissing Camilo on the cheek. You were both blushing when you whispered “thanks, Cami”, but you got yourselves out of it quickly and started settle on the grass.
~ Apearantly Julieta packed them everything they needed: food, water, a picnic blanket and pillows- “for the time sitting down starts to hurt”, as the notes sticked to the pillows said.
~ They were having a great time, and just before the dark they packed their things in the basket again and started walking back, still laughing and talking.
~ Camilo walked y\n to their house, kissing them on the cheek for goodbye and made sure they went in and their parents were there to take them to bed, and onlt then went back to Casita. When he told his parents about it, they hugged him and told him how proud they are of him and the gentleman he grew up to be.
~ After the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th date, Camilo finally asked Y\N to be his s\o. You, of course, said yes, and his family couldn’t be happier... literally: Pepa made rainbows everywhere; Isabela was going around town spreading flowers of any kind, color and shape; Julieta didn’t stop making desserts to heal the town; Luisa was so excited she always used too much power to lift everything (and caused several accidents that way); Dolores squeaked whenever she heard one of you talking about the other; Antonio always let you play with his animals; Mirabel made you a new y\f\c\p; Agustin and Felix told you it’s okay to be an outsider who has no gift and they can join the club once they marry Camilo (which made you turn red like a tomato); and Abuela just smiled as she watched you- she saw the same love she and Pedro had, this teenager made her first male grandson happy and that gave her peace- even though she thought they weren’t good enough for Camilo.
~ But as Camilo started dated Y\N, Isabela decided to have her revenge at him for all the years of teasing her.
~ Every time Y\N came to Casita, Isabela would stand at the door, sing “CAMILO, YOUR S\O’S HERE” as loud as she can and create a flower statue of you, laughing.
~ You didn’t understand why is makes Isabela laugh and Camilo get so mad he turned into her and moked her, but after Isabela explained you what happened you found that funny too.
POISON
Part of the the “Encanto fantasy kingdom AU” is that while Mirabel is technically not next in line for the throne, as the only Madrigal born outside the palace walls, she is “one of the people”. The Madrigals in this au are devine beings and as Mirabel is born among the common people she slowly starts to become the people’s favourite. The one they would choose to rule them, instead of Isabela, who meanwhile is being molded by Alma to be the next ruler. Mirabel’s new popularity among the people of Encanto leads to unknown evil forces targeting and trying to assassinate her. One of these attempts, is poison.
The palace is huge and all the Madrigals have different areas in the castle, where they can practice their gifts. Her mother is probably on the other side of the castle, which is why it takes so long for her to get there. Well, why don’t they have some of her healing food with them? Because! It wouldn’t be as dramatic. Why is Bruno with her? He is her self-appointed protector and because they are a team. He can see some of the assassination attempts, but not all. Also, simply because I want it to be so.
@c-rose2081 is the other half behind this au and idea. As I also mentioned in the last post about this au: me and @c-rose2081 are no longer developing this au. If someone wants to write a story about this go right ahead and tag me so I can read it! (PLATONIC RELATIONSHIP AS USUAL. IF YOU SEE THIS AS ANYTHING OTHER THAN, PLEASE REFRAIN FROM COMMENTING. ANY RUDE, INAPPROPRIATE OR HARASSING COMMENTS/ USERS WILL BE BLOCKED. I HAVE MADE SURE TO EXPLAIN THIS THOROUGHLY SEVERAL TIMES. I DON’T SHIP THESE CHARACTERS.)
Oneshot: TV Episodes from another point of view
Some scenes from EncantoTV from Bruno's POV, because sometimes i get the urge for platonic angst/fluff and I can't be arsed doing all the buildup again so.
feat. swear words, local man full of love and internal screaming.
Nobody had warned Bruno about teenagers. Isabela had been twelve the last time he'd been around. His little nieces had grown up since. Grown up, God help him! He hadn't known what to say to them on his return, but they surprised him with a bottle of wine and a tearful private reunion, where they drunkenly caught him up on all the family drama. They were no longer just kids to be raised now, but young adults eager to befriend him, happy to see him return home. It made less difference to them: they were grown. It was the kids that were the problem.
Antonio was a dream. He was just like Mirabel at that age, although terribly shy around strangers; once Antonio realised that Bruno would answer questions, listen to animal facts and let him play in mud he was instantly sold on this 'new uncle' idea. But Mirabel? Lord have mercy, Camilo? Bruno thought he was doing okay until Julieta and Pepa left him in charge.
Boy, he was not doing okay at being the adult in the house.
We're the Madrigals. We're the family that protects the Encanto.
The person in charge is you. So what plan did you come up with?
I don't wanna hear another word.
Don't talk to Mirabel like that.
Bruno had been playing the last tense conversation he'd had with the kids in his head over and over again, knots of guilt and fear coiling in his stomach. Tomorrow he'd have to man up and talk to people in the village, make plans, deliver news of another catastrophic vision. It made him want to puke. But right now all he could do was fix the mess he'd made with Mirabel and Camilo, who had definitely lost what misguided respect for him they might have developed.
Don't talk to Mirabel like that.
Oh, Camilo could be cruel, that was fine. Bruno knew enough about teens to handle that part. But it was the righteousness in those his words that got him the most. Díos mio, why had he talked to Mirabel like that? She'd only been trying to help, and putting his foot down had made the light fade from her eyes in a way he hoped to never see again. Mirabel had gone completely empty, and smiled a placating nothing-smile at him, and Camilo had looked at him with so much hate. Antonio had gotten teary-eyed and asked them not to fight. Lord, Bruno had wanted to do the same. He didn't want to fight. He didn't want to fight at all.
And here he was, an idiot who had not only taken control of the situation too late, but successfully hurt everyone's feelings in the process! Round of applause! Standing ovation for Bruno, he's fucked up personally and practically! Bruno ran his hands through his hair and groaned.
Mirabel. He needed to make things right with her; if he did, then Camilo would, at the very least, be vindicated. Why had Bruno shut her down? She would've listened to him if he'd just asked her to. Mirabel, the little girl who'd brought him home and stood up for him when nobody else would! And what had he done? Grounded her. Mirabel had once told Bruno he was the best friend she'd ever had. He'd cried.
And now look at him! He made himself walk up the stairs and approach her bedroom door.
Tío Bruno. Tío Bruno. He was Tío Bruno, wise and funny and warm. He was not a flaming hot dumpster fire tearing his own brain to shreds. He was Tío Bruno, the best friend Mirabel had ever had (don't cry), and he was going to talk to his niece and gently tell her he was sorry and it would be fine.
"Mirabel?" he called, knocking on her door. "C-can we talk?"
A stutter in his voice. He listened; silence, but no snoring.
"It's okay if you're upset," he continued, "I understand if you don’t want to talk... I mean, I can - I’ll just talk. You don’t have to talk. I wanted to say sorry. Um. Can I come in?"
The silence was starting to make him wonder if she was in there at all. She could've gone to the bathroom. He hadn't heard that. Or...
"Mirabel," he repeated, with a sense of rising urgency.
No response.
He creaked the door open.
Dark room. The curtains fluttered in the moonlight, with Mirabel's large window open, a newly-formed staircase swirling away from the open window and down to the ground.
Bruno stared for a long moment.
Then he said, tiredly, "Casita, really?"
The door creaked apologetically shut. Bruno stood there for a moment, mind empty, and then - for lack of any other ideas - smacked his head against the door and hoped for a concussion.
"Ow," he said. He didn't get one.
He lingered there for a moment. Then he peeled himself off the door, groaned, and began to sprint down the hall.
*
There were a couple of things Bruno hated about being sick. The year 1969 was one of them.
It was an ordeal. His head was pounding, his nose was running, and every time he sneezed he learned something different about 1969. He decided quickly that it was the worst year ever invented. Sometimes he'd be lucky enough to glimpse something else, like a bit of the nineties. Not that any of the visions were pleasant; it was confusing and disorienting and made his sinuses hurt. But 1969 stung especially badly. Why then? Nothing interesting happened in 1968, as far as he knew. No election. Another war, but there was always another war. And he hated the boy bands.
Bruno pinched his nose and squinted, holding off another barrage of sneezing, and cursed God for inventing snow. Snow made his magic go haywire, his magic made his body weaker, and his bad luck ensured he'd come down with something within the week.
Of course, one of the other things he hated about being sick, which was less fun to think about, was dying alone.
The thought was irrational, but ten years of habit kept it fresh in his mind. Too many times curled up behind the walls, desperately trying to muffle his coughing, aching and nauseous. It swirled around his brain like an unwelcome guest. Nobody knows you're here. Nobody will find you. If you get worse, nobody will help you. If you die they won’t even find your body.
Of course, with Julieta's magic not working on him, the possibility was a lot fresher on his mind than it would be otherwise. It was a stupid thought. He had a cold, for goodness' sake, not the plague. And yet...
There weren't even any rats. Where were they? He hadn't even seen any that morning. They'd abandoned him too, then, along with his health and Julieta's magic. That was a problem that would need solving... at some point.
Bruno sneezed. Painful green light flashed behind his eyes.
Oh, please, say to me you'll let me be your man, and please, say to me you'll let me hold your hand, you'll let me hold your hand, I want to hold your hand...
"Shut up," he groaned, sinking his head into his hands.
He stayed there for a long moment, nursing his headache, trying to dispel the dread that was rattling around his skull. He forgot, for a moment, that his room was no longer a secret and he was no longer a stranger to the children; he nearly jumped out of his skin when Mirabel knocked on the door, then nudged it open with her hip, a tray of things probably sent by a fussing Julieta in her hands. He straightened himself up as quickly as possible, rubbing his nose and trying to look normal.
"Mirabel," he said, "Everything okay?"
“Yeah!” she said brightly. “Just checking in!”
Although it was clear from the over-cheerful way she was carrying herself that everything wasn't okay. There was something tugging at her eyes as she spoke, as though she were checking for some invisible enemy. It probably wasn't one of those; it was probably an emotional problem. Mirabel was fifteen and didn't have many enemies. Bruno tried to ask her about it and instead had to stifle another sneeze, which showed him the image or a long-haired man with large, flared pants and immediately made him forget what he was going to say.
He saw Mirabel wince and suddenly worried he was making her uncomfortable. She probably had better ways to spend her time than porting things to her disgusting invalid uncle. "Did your mom put you up to this?" he asked.
"No!" She laughed nervously, exaggerating her smile too much to be convincing. "I just thought we should hang out! And do... healthy... activities."
He cocked an eyebrow. Mirabel, at this level of hyperactivity, usually didn't last more than a few hours without cracking and admitting what was wrong.
She deflated. "Okay, well, I'm kind of avoiding the village at the moment."
Now that was a feeling Bruno knew well. He wished - not for the first time - that he'd done more to protect her reputation, that she had turned out as well-liked as her sisters. This room was often Mirabel's shelter when she felt alone, the same way it had once been Bruno’s; he wouldn't kick her out if that was what she needed, even if he could use a nap. "Well, consider me at your service," he told her, although the house slapped him in the knees when he tried to accompany her out.
He stretched his arms, sniffed, and grabbed his copy of Ficciones from the shelf. He fretted for a moment with the cover, wondering if Mirabel was being bullied, if Abuela had been talking to her again, if she'd had another dream about the fall. Should he have pushed? No, no, she needed her privacy. --But should he have pushed?
She sat at his table, now cluttered beyond recognition, obscuring the crayon plate drawing, her tongue stuck out in concentration. Mirabel's drawings were good. Too ambitious to be realistic, of course. Too much focus on the drawing, not the design. But she was excellent for her age, her lack of aptitude overcome by studious practice and hard work. Bruno read his book and scowled at the way his nose was running and idly munched empanadas in the hopes one of them would cure him.
(He didn't notice that the dread had eased, that his thoughts had drifted elsewhere; but then, he rarely noticed, in the moment, that it had happened, not until it was over.)
*
When things went a little wrong, Bruno found it hard to keep it together. But when things completely fell apart, when everything was ruined and unimaginably bad, when disaster stuck harder than anyone could have thought? Bruno found himself extraordinarily able to keep it together. He found that if he needed to, he could keep his head straight through a whole day of hell on earth and only start screaming once it was over.
When they found the bleeding figure of Professor Dunnock, his hands weakly holding a terrible sword wound, Bruno held his head straight and told Luisa what to do. The ease with which he could take charge comforted him. He could be brave, as long as Mirabel and Luisa were there; his two youngest nieces, who needed him more than he needed to break down.
Mirabel said, "Just ten minutes. I'll be right behind you. Please."
Bruno barely had time to worry about Mirabel's safety. The white man, if he could be saved, would soon cross the point of no return. "Ten minutes," said Bruno, and then shoved his fear into a mental locker to pull out later.
Julieta didn't often treat injuries this dire. When she saw Dunnock her attention was immediately on him. She had the instincts of a medic, always had; perhaps in another life she’d have been a doctor, a nurse, somebody who helped people using just her knowledge. Perhaps it was for the best she had her Gift, at least for her current patient.
They set him on the kitchen table, having no better operating table. Julieta spoke softly to the man, took a spoonful of milk, and tilted his head back. "Here, you'll feel better," she whispered, "Just drink a little, cariño, just a spoonful, for me..."
Every sip of liquid closed the wound a little more, and as the injury went from dire to bad to merely painful, a sheen of sweat appeared on Julieta's face; her magic, usually so plentiful, was finally running low, draining her energy. Eventually she reached a point where her patient was recovering, even if he was still unconscious. It was only then she stopped, gently arranged his sleeping form to be more comfortable, and took his hand.
"Thank you for being kind to my daughter," she whispered to the sleeping professor. Then she turned to Luisa, opening her arms for a hug, and held her; Luisa carried her to the sofa, and they fell asleep there, both exhausted from the day's antics.
Not Bruno, though. Bruno was running on overdrive. It had been twenty-five minutes and Mirabel wasn't there.
Bruno didn't remember the sword that killed his father, of course. But he'd never forgotten that violence had taken everything from his mother, that Pedro Madrigal had died helpless at swordpoint. Touching the handle of Simón's sword had made him want to vomit. He hadn't realised how deeply the idea of losing anyone else to the blade frightened him until he saw Dunnock shaking and bleeding in that tent, and now, with Mirabel absent, he had to know what would happen.
He didn't bother with his room; stress had brought the vision itching at the edge of his awareness. He collapsed against the wall and turned his eyes towards the future.
— Mirabel, running through the trees, hiding, peeking. She stares at someone —
A blade on her hip — she holds it and steps forward —
a figure with a sword — they stare at each other —
the figure swings — Mirabel defends —
— blood in the mountain spring — Mirabel's blade, clattering to the ground —
— Mirabel —
No! No! Show him anything, anything, anything except the dead body of Mirabel. He couldn't look.
Bruno cut the vision off with a gasp. The dust swirling around him settled. He panted, slumping, letting the wall catch him.
She'd lied. She wasn't looking for Antonio. Of course she wasn't. She'd taken that stupid machete and gone looking for Dunnock's attacker. Gone after the murderer.
And she would find him. And she would fight him.
She'd stopped trusting him the moment he ran his mouth and insulted her. Mirabel, you're not like us. But what could he say about that now? It was sickeningly true. Mortal, defenceless Mirabel. She had no magic between herself and her attacker. No Gift to protect her. All she had to save her now was Bruno.
A burst of adrenaline made him push himself off the wall and start running. Sprint out of the house, find a horse, find the spring. If he hadn't seen her body then she could still be unhurt. Still be stopped. Still be saved.
He remembered when Mirabel was born. She’d had a difficult birth. (Fifteen years ago; had it really been that long?) She'd been born early, all red and breathing funny, and an exhausted Julieta fell into a troubled sleep; Agustín had handed Mirabel to Bruno for a moment, just one, and Bruno had looked down at her, and Agustín had panted, "Will she be alright?"
Bruno looked down at the baby and carefully looked for her future. He saw it there, just a glimpse, a memory of something not yet passed. Mirabel, a child, and Bruno, her uncle, and a memory of love, of fondness, of friendship. Yes, Mirabel would live. Mirabel would live and Bruno sensed that they would be friends someday.
Bruno nodded, smiling so hard his face hurt, and Agustín had thrown his arms around him and sobbed, and they had hugged in exhausted joy with the baby cradled between them. It had been the best vision Bruno had ever had.
(Later it would turn out the blood in the vision was from her hand, not anywhere else. When he saw her cradling it, gasping and pale and blissfully alive, he realised he'd come too late after all; that if the blade had swung a few inches closer, then--
She looked scared and tired, her hand held painfully to her chest. Her bravery had almost taken everything from him. He kissed her forehead, aching. I love you, he thought, I love you, I love you, never do that to me, never do that to anyone, please, never, never again. "You dumb kid," he said, his heart breaking, "You're killin' me.")
How do each of the grandkids discover their powers/second forms? How does Alma/the adults react?
(This is my first ever drabble i hope you like it)
Everyone within Encanto, The “Cursed” Village, knew of La Familia Madrigal they were the ones who watched over and protected the entire valley. The Madrigals were also the weirdest of the village as unlike other families who’s creatures are hereditary mostly, the creatures that the Madrigals have the traits and abilities are almost all different. The matriarch,Alma Madrigal, was a Banshee, but her children were different creatures Julieta a Phoenix, Pepa a Storm Dragon, and Bruno a Black Shuck. And the most strangest comes from the Grandchildren who were even more different. Pepa’s children consisted of Dolores a dullahan, Camilo a cheshire cat, and Antonio a werewolf pup. Julieta’s daughters were Isabela a druid, Luisa a gargoyle, and Mirabel a siren. Now while they can use their abilities perfectly, when they manifested it was quite the experience for all involved.
Dolores was the first who had her creature manifest and it was a very chaotic day. Dolores was simply going through the village, doing some of her chores, when her head simply popped off of her body and rolled into a alleyway. The body however kept moving and eventually returned home much to the shock and worry of Pepa and Felix who ran out to find the head while Alma and Julieta focussed on keeping the body safe. After the head was returned to Dolores was made the center of attention for a few days after because everyone tried to focus on keeping her safe if her head popped off again. Soon a solution was found as one of the farmer brought over a horse that connected with Dolores becoming her well seeing eye horse in case of Emergencies.
Isabela was next and while her story wasn’t as dramatic it was hilarious. The boys of Encanto were always trying to gain Isabela’s affection via small gestures of love, none of which worked to be truly honest. One day a young boy named Paulo tried to win her over by giving her a garden a gesture she appreciated but she still rejected him. In a fit of childish rage the boy attempted to destroy his gift using his ability as a fire drake, however when Isabela cried out for him to stop, massive vines erupted from the ground and grabbed the boy and tossed him out into the water. The adults were quite impressed and after Julieta gave a piece of her mind to the boy and his family, she praised Isabela for her new power claiming that control over plants was quite useful, especially when dealing with troublemakers.
Luisa came next and while hers were expected it still came as a shock for how they appeared. Luisa was simply tasked with going out to check on the farmers and see what they needed. Hours later however Luisa never returned and the family learned that she never even got to the first farm. After a quick search a small winged statue was found near the road that was determined to be Luisa. While everyone was shocked and concerned, it was Agustin that calmed everyone down, stating that the statue was likely a cocoon like state for luisa, a fact that would be proven when a hour later the statue crumbled and Luisa emerged just fine, she just now looked like a living version of the Statue. The adults were all relieved and happy for Luisa as her new form showed off her strength greatly
Camilo’s transformation wasn’t even discovered until a day after it manifested when the madrigals started to note weird things happening around Casita. Objects mysteriously vanishing, buckets of water randomly appearing, and claims of a large grin being seen in the shadows. By the end of the day everyone was on alert when Isabela had a water balloon thrown at her, in a fit of rage she had a giant cactus spawn near where it came from. With a loud yelp of pain, Camilo appeared hissing softly. Everyone was a bit ticked at him for his pranks however, when Camilo woke up from a nightmare where he went invisible but couldn’t become visible again, all was forgiven as the adults did their best to help him.
Mirabel’s form was a shock for everyone because it took years for it to be properly awakened. Her power came in at 5, a soft gentle and hypnotic voice that put everyone that hears it to sleep and everyone believed that was it. However one day there was a incident where the valley was flooded due to some massive storms out of pepa’s control. A child was wept away by a current and Mirabel, in a act of heroism, jumped into the water and swam after the young girl. Everyone was shocked as when Mirabel made contact with the water her legs fused together into a tail as her hands became webbed, and she grew gills around her neck. With her new form she easily caught up to kid and got her to safety. She was hailed a hero for her action, however she was still grounded for being reckless and jumping in, when Pepa was nearby and was about to fly out and grab the girl.
Antonio just recently got his new form and it was in a very adorable way. It was time for his party and after being comforted by Mirabel he was so excited he basically ran into the crowd happily. He was so fast everyone didn’t notice that he began to change from a boy into a puppy until Pepa was able to grab a hold of him. It was safe to say the youngest Madrigal received a lot of praises and pets. Everyone in the valley agreed afterall, that Antonio was the most adorable puppy ever.
I know we had those headcanons for little Lolo and Tío Bruno when she was younger, but what about lil Isabela? The first of the Madrigal grandkids, getting all the attention from everyone in the Encanto, how was her relationship with her oddball of a tío like when she was younger?
OOOOO I love baby Madrigal/Tio Bruno headcanon questionsss *rubs hands together*
Okay here we go!
When she was first born, he was smitten--like immediately. I really feel in my soul that he loves/has always loved babies
I got this stupid HC that she used to suck on his nose when she was an infant b/c she thought it was a boob lmao
This one is going hand in hand with @ambidextrous-space-samurai's fic (which if you haven't read it yet, PLEASE DO, highly recommend ✨) but he loved to talk to her a lot as a baby. He continued doing it as she got older and it just kind of--stuck. Kinda to his demise lol
I feel like Isa turned into a chatter-box by age 3. Since the family was always busy, they'd leave Bruno to babysit most days and she would just talk his ears all the way off. Wherever he went, there she was just chattering away. And it was his fault b/c he started this when she was an infant
But he'd just let it happen because he'd gotten used to tuning Pepa out for years-- he's great at tuning out stuff
Bruno was notorious for sneaking her sweets. Abuela and Julieta wouldn't let her have many because y'know-- the golden child has to have perfect teeth
All she'd have to do is look at him a certain way and he'd already know. I really feel like he did this with all the kids tbh lol
I see this HC a lot but I'm obsessed with it so I'll mention it anyway. Isa and Dolores definitely used to braid and play in his hair. He loved it and would fall asleep most times-- and then wake up hours later to them asleep next to him <3 (this one means a lot to me bc I used to do this to my dad and he would fall asleep quite literally every time lol)
Isabela made spa days a thing and cycled between her dad, Tio Felix and Bruno every week. Like she had them on a rotational schedule b/c she didn't play about her spa days and still doesn't
Isabela used to sprout flowers and put em in his hair and his shirt--and coffee mug
I'd like to think Bruno always used the exact same mug and she took notice of that. So before he'd pour his coffee every morning, she'd put a single petal in it. Casita was always in on it lol He'd mindlessly go to pour, sip and then-- "Isabela.." and she'd just be on the other end of the table like :) <3
Bruno taught her how to play chess-- and she's a god at it now. She still can't beat him though lol
He used to purposely let her beat him just so she wouldn't exact revenge on him in the form of leaving a bunch of pollen filled flowers on his bed
It took one time of that happening and he learned his lesson lol
That's all for now! Hope you like them! I'm--MONTHS late answering but hopefully you still care about these lolol
About Madremonte au When will you do teh oneshots of Luisa and Julietta pov of Mira and Isa living away and visiting? And can you include a Isa x Juli x Luisa bonding time fluff on it?
One Shot based on the Encanto Madremonte AU by the lovely @c-rose2081
This specific oneshot is their initial return to Casita after their resurrection from the statues and one of the visits afterwards. I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed writing it!
Memories Remembered and Made
Julieta remembered when her oldest, her little sunflower, was still young enough to need her and deny needing that motherly help. Isabela had always been an independent child, always running in the fields her aunt had watered and constantly getting underfoot when given the chance to go into town with her mother. However, she could not have predicted just how independent she would become in the few short years after Luisa, her then youngest, was born.
She could still remember her sister racing down the street towards her, the dark cloud above her head mirroring the increasingly overcast sky, feet pounding on the stone road. She remembered the way the blood drained out of her face and the mask of worry transformed into one of sheer terror as Pepa took her arm and said, "You need to come home, Julieta! Isabela is gone and her door has dimmed!"
It didn't matter that she had left Luisa with Senora Ortiz or that she had skinned the length of her arm when she had slipped onto Casita's tiles as she flew through the front door. All that Julieta could think was that her oldest was gone and not behind the protective walls of their home. That she had let her mother keep her oldest caged, like the birds that were sold at the market, their feathers untidy and clipped to keep them from flying away; that her baby had flown away despite her wings being clipped and her very own gift seemingly turning against her. After that, all efforts to bring her sunflower home blurred together.
They searched for a long time, days bleeding into weeks, which bled into months. The entirety of the able bodied adult Madrigals and the rest of the Encanto, all of them looked for Isabela. Julieta and Agustin calling out in a daze for their wayward daughter, their calls turning into wails and screams as one by one they went unanswered. The only reason Julieta even stayed home was because she'd found out she was with child once more. Slowly, the search parties dwindled, until one day, almost a year after the fact, a cartographer found her daughters favorite blue dress. It was half buried, torn, and covered in blood.
When Alma Madrigal called her children, sat her oldest down, and mournfully presented the dress? Well, all Julieta remembered was hitting the floor and hearing a keening wail she would later know was ripped from her throat.
The years flew past, only marginally slowing down when Mirabel was born and becoming more terror induced as the patches of stone began to appear, fear causing her to isolate her family from the rest. Luisa, her little mountain, took over the main care of her sister as her mother became more and more frail looking in the wheelchair she frequently used. Rules were set, enforced, and ignored, Mirabel quickly growing and rising above the cages, looking more and more like the sister she never knew.
So when Casita crumbled to the ground and the faces of her youngest and oldest were carved into the statues within the hollow of that tree, she began to think that maybe it was cruel fate that her daughters would be ripped away from her loving embrace in the end.
Only, that wasn't how their story ended.
When Isa and Mirabel emerged from their would be tomb, it took all that Julieta was not to collapse into her wheelchair and sob. Her children had returned! After years and months of 'what if's' and 'if only's', all of her babies were together once more. But then Isa had looked at them and her heart began to sink.
Where once had been eyes that had mirrored her own, there were irises made of dim gold filled with wariness and desperation. Where ears had ended in rounded edges, tapered ends moved by their own volition, twitching at every sound they registered. Sharp fangs barred to all who stepped closer, plant life that had grown on her body stood on end making her seem larger than what her impressive height was. When Alma had tried to come towards them, a rumbling growl erupted from deep within Isabela's chest as she pushed a mildly dazed Mirabel behind her.
And that when it hit her; Isabela was protecting her sister from her family. No sooner that she had finished the train of thought, Isabela swung her sister onto her back, scaled the walls of Casita, the tiles trying to keep them inside, but it was no use. Julieta's voice, which had never gone beyond a low murmur in the past 15 years, strained itself hoarse and Luisa cried for the first time since she realized her Isa had gone missing. Their family tried to comfort them, but it was slow in effect and quick to draw their ire. What use was comfort when their missing and dead family fled from home, away from them? Did they not care? For days afterwards, they would burst into tears, ones a mixture of relief and worry. The other's, ones of fear, shame and happiness.
And then, against all perceived odds, they came home.
It had been close to dusk, the last hour of sun burning off in the horizon line. She had been at the counter making the dough for the bread, soft orange light filtering in through the open window. Head down, she hadn't expected the light to be blocked and least of all to look up into the apprehensive eyes of her sunflower as she hung down from Casita's walls with Mirabel on her back.
"Dios mío!"
Julieta couldn't believe it. Was this some cruel dream? One meant to torture her with wishes she never thought would come true? But no, her daughters didn't disappear or turn back into the statues her nightmares had forced her to witness. Isabela's eyes began to fill with mild discomfort and irritation, her body shifting to release the tension in her muscles. The quick patter of multiple pairs bare feet on tile approached and she only had time to hold out her hand to stop Isabela from fleeing.
"Julieta?!? Que paso? What's wrong? Let me- Isabela? Mirabel?" Her husbands voice, her clumsy husband who she loved, but wished at that moment would shut his mouth. Julieta turned her face slightly to address him never taking her eyes off the children fully, "I'm okay, Amor. Nothing's wrong, but please be a little more quiet?" Please stay calm. Don't move or come closer, is what she wanted to say, but with her girls so close she didn't dare say it so obviously if Isabela decided it sounded too much like threat.
She turned back to face them fully, "Would you like to come in?" Please don't leave me! Don't disappear again! Isa seemed to scan the family behind her, and at Mirabel's nudge of encouragement, she sharply nodded in assent and moved forward, further through the open window. Julieta moved her chair back, giving them room to climb inside and suddenly they were in front of her. Isa was taller than most of the family, seeing eye to eye with her other sister who trembled in the doorway, looking at them with tears in her eyes. Mirabel, who normally had her patches of stone in well hidden areas, had them dotting her body in scale like patterns, mirroring the way Isa's gift had sprouted on her own body. Everything that they had been, had changed and Julieta couldn't will herself to care at all. Her children were here and that was all that mattered.
During her inspection of them, her daughters had faced her fully, Mirabel having climbed down from her sister's back and moving forward to stand in front Isabela a hesitant look in her green eyes. Well, then. That wouldn't stand to stay. So with great dread, Julieta asked "Mirabel? Que paso?"
Mirabel, eyes filling with determination, proceeded to explain their presence. They needed food, anything that wouldn't rot away out in the Wilds and could last them as least a week. They didn't intend to stay, she thought with dismay, they were going to leave. But, hadn't they survived so long away from her motherly gaze? Had her oldest not beat the odds and survived out in the jungle thought to have claimed her life? And had her youngest not essentially raised herself away from the arms that should have protected her? Mirabel hadn't fought to stay when Isabela picked her up and fled, and she certainly hadn't come back sooner. Was this house even home for them? Did Isabela remember them? Deep in her aching, weeping soul, Julieta knew the answer to all those questions.
Turning so she faced the counter once more, where the cabinets filled with dried meat and non-perishable food was stored in the cabinets above and below, she asked, "How long do you think you can wait for me to pack up the food, bebe?" How long do you plan to stay after?
Mirabel's brief glance towards Luisa inching closer and Isabelas curling lip revealing her fangs was answer enough, "We can wait for you to pack it up and be on our way, Mami." Not any longer than we have to.
And so, Julieta got to work putting together the healing food that would hopefully keep her daughters safe, the rest of the Madrigals crowding in the doorway. The sound of cabinets opening and closing, the thumps of wrapped food dropping into the wicker basket she used to carry food, and the shifting of fabric were the only sounds accompanying her actions, that is, until she got to the sweets in the cabinets above. As she moved to stand, Luisa came forward an almost desperate expression on her face.
"Déjame ayudarte Mama! I'll get the conchas." Those had been Isabela's favorite, was left unsaid amongst those in the family who remembered the girl sneaking to swipe the pan dulce from the platters her mother made.
As Luisa moved closer, Isa pulled her youngest closer to her body, seeming to curl around her in a way that took her breath from her lungs. They look so much like the statues, she thought with no small measure of pain in her heart. When Luisa had carefully handed the bundle of pan dulce to her mother she turned from her, to her sisters looking like she might lunge for them at any moment.
Julieta put her hand on her daughters arm to still her movement and closed the basket. She smiled at them and handed it to them carefully, watching Mirabel give it Isabela who grew vines to keep it closed for the journey home, wherever that place was. Julieta watched as her mariposa climbed her sunflower and teared up as they looked at her. Golden eyes relieved to leave with no recognition of who she was in front of and green eyes sad, but filling with eagerness to do the same.
As they climbed out the window and off into the darkened jungle, their family exploded into cries calling them back. Everyone trying to talk over one another about what they could have done to convince them to stay, but Julieta just stared out after them, a small but sad smile playing on her lips.
A week later they returned, with the same request and the same time frame of stay. They came near dusk, asked for food, and left after their business was done. Then came the next week, and then the next, they returned to Casita, always through the kitchen window and always when Julieta was alone in the kitchen.
And then one day, they came during the early morning, when Julieta and Luisa were the only ones up. The sun was barely peaking through the mountain when a tap at the window drew their attention. They were hanging there waiting patiently for the window to open and when it did they climbed through, landing less than two feet away from Julieta.
"Hola, mami!"
She watched fondly as her mariposita climbed down her sister, her sunflower, who huffed as her fingers pulled a little too forcefully at her hair, "Hola, mis amores. What are you doing here so early?"
Her daughter grinned and quickly untied a bag that hung next to the basket, "We came back to get some more clothes and food! The clothes I took got dirty quickly and I need something clean to wear while I wash the rest." Isabela gave her a look leading to Mirabel sheepishly ducking her head, "And I might have accidentally used up all of our food. In my defense, I didn't think exploring near the river was that dangerous!"
And so, she sighed and let Mirabel go up to wash her clothes, leaving Isabela to stand in the kitchen inspecting the room around her. It had been the first time Luisa and her mother had been alone with Isa since she had come back and the girl-no, woman seemed the most at ease she had been during their visits; Maybe it was because the entire family wasn't there.
Turning back to the breakfast she steadfastly continued to make the meal, nudging Luisa who had her excitement and want to speak Isa barely veiled behind nonchalance. For a few minutes it was quiet, until a quiet rattle sounded close to her. At her side was Isa, closer than she had ever been before, crouching, and intently looking at the pattern of her apron. Lightly tracing the small embroidered image of a sunflower, she looked up and tilted her head and made a small sound of inquiry.
Luisa's breath hitched next to her, and Julieta put a hand on her own, "Do you like the sunflowers?" A nod of affirmation was all that answered her question and she smiled, but when she turned away in hidden disappointment a voice continued.
"Favoritos."
Luisa's eyes widened and Julieta almost jumped in surprise, but all other options as to who it could have been were all asleep. Isa had returned her gaze to the flowers, but it was clear it had been her. Isabelas voice, which was slightly deeper and rattled slightly, was the one who spoke, though her ears twitched in what appeared to be slight nervousness. She had stepped away from them in the time it took to register what she had said.
Julieta smiled, leaned forward slightly, and softly said, "They're one of my favorites too."
"And mine!" was Luisa's more exuberant response, though she softened it after Isabela pinned her ears back and her expression became a little more wary.
After a moment, her eyes softened and her lips twitched up for a second before she resumed inspection of the slowly lightening room. It became quiet once more and the two women in blue returned to making breakfast, Luisa glancing at her sister as though she wanted to say more but refrained form doing so.
As the sun climbed the sky and the rest of the household shifted in their sleep, Julieta couldn't help but think that maybe fate was being kind.
I have a new au and i felt like dropping out here:
Court AU
the premise is that the "back wall" of each of the magic rooms + Mirabel's wardrobe are not the actual back wall, and if the corresponding Madrigal figures this out or is told, they can access a magical Court as its ruler, and from them on preside over the creatures of the Court, which vary depending on the Court. They also get magical outfits and secondary forms <3
Bruno was the first to find his Court, the Court of Time. He was looking for a new place in his room to hide from Alma before she could scold his for another negative outcome when he found a hole in the wall under the sand. He has rats and little critters made of emerald glass as his courtiers, and can turn into a large emerald rat at will.
Isabela was next to find her Court, when she was exploring her room at the age of eight. She'd discovered the false wall shortly after her ceremony, but in her room, her Court was hidden behind two other large rooms with false backs, each gallery the combined distance of all those before it, and less maintained as you go back. The Galleries were quite large, so it took Isabela a while to reach the Third Curtain. She presides over the Court of... uh... basically it's plants and everything encompassed on the existence of plants, but she's so working out a name that accurately describes it, because really it's kind of the cycle of life and death and the passing of living things that creates nutrients and the absorption of nutrients and-
-and plants and plant stuff encompasses quite a bit of stuff! She also kind of has an alliance with fungi, which technically aren't under her domain but are deeply intertwined with plants. Isabela's Court is populated by Courtiers (capital C), which are a sort of sentient animated Fae-plant that hijacks disused skeletons and skins. Isabela's alternate form is a clouded leopard Courtier. (Do not expect the other to have quite this much as Isabela is my favorite)
Dolores rules the Court of Sound, which she found by listening to the flutter of near-silent moth wings. Her Court consists mainly of large moth creatures and owl things and rabbitfolk. I have not yet decided on an alternate form for her.
Luisa found the Court of Myths, populated by fantastical creatures from fables and folktales. Most of her courtiers are from the more "classical" mythologies - that is, European legends. Cerberus, unicorns, pegasi, creatures of that ilk. Luisa's alternate form is a draft unicorn.
Camilo has his Court of Change, accessible via a mirror. His courtiers are mirrorbeasts, creatures with a transparent, malleable form. They are usually found in the shape of trickster animals, such as foxes, crows, and snakes, or mimicry masters, like the lyrebird or octopus. Camilo himself can turn into a mirrorbeast if he so wishes.
Sweet Mirabel gets the Court of Magic, also known as the Court of Butterflies, as many of her courtiers are large, magical lepidopterans, although those are not the only creatures in her Court. One of her main advisors is Casita itself. She found her Court through a secret passage in the back of her wardrobe, a la Narnia, although she can access it deliberately. Her magical shape is a large gold and blue butterfly.
Antonio finds the Court of Animals shortly after receiving his Gift, with the help of his prima Mirabel. As the name implies, his courtiers are animals. Nothing else is yet known about his Court-related magic.
Julieta, Pepa, and Alma never found their Courts.
SO COOL❓❗❓❗ no bit really do do think its a cool idea. Ngl, when I first read that I was like "Court? So Ace Attorney?" Like i for thought you was about to propose a Law AU 💀 ANYWAYYYY Yeah, I like the idea! Gotta search for em or be told about it, that's a nice touch. F in chats for Julieta, Pepa and Alma. No loyalty <\\\333 jkjk.
I like Mirabel's and Camilo's, and Luisa's. The most. BUT THEY'RE ALL GREAT...They're just so cool to me in particular. Esepcially the creatures that populate the court, like that is such a unique idea, instead of just people (though even if it was just people, I'd still be down wit it.) Overall, I really do like the idea.
In your version of the Bruno got sent to the Isle AU, what have the rest of the Madrigals been up to since then?
Pretty much the same as in canon after he "left", with the main difference this time they knew exactly where he was and why he wasn't there with them. They have a softer view of him because of this because they know he was taken away and they can't forget why and how. (the villagers don't though, they think Bruno should have warned them in advance and also think Bruno was the reason Auradon got there in the first place, which is true but not for the reasons they think)
It's very painful and Alma did her best to try not to make it too evident for the sake of Encanto and the family, hence the ban on Bruno's name, for better or worse (she doesn't want the reminder of her failure to protect him, nor likes to hear her son being badmouthed). She writes at least two letters a year, one to King Beast and one to Queen Elena (remember that in my AU, Encanto is part of Avalor), to ask for Bruno's freedom, to no avail so far. Elena is actually sorry and answers every time she wishes she can change the sentence, Beast doesn't even read them as all the requests in favor of the prisoners of the Isle are sent to the Bureau of Isle Affairs and left there (Ben will find them, at some point. He will find lots of them, not only the ones for Bruno).
So the family moves on and tries to go on as it did. Obviously, Dolores wouldn't remember what he sounds like and Camilo has no clue how to depict him face-wise save for the murals (but he still believes he's 7ft tall and got the glowing eyes story from listening around), other than the fact they'd have a pile of prophecy tablets no one knows how to interpret because Bruno sort of spouted them out just before he was taken away and just left them in his tower. Alma tried to sort them out at first but gave up pretty soon (he destroyed Mirabel's one anyway, just in case), little Isabela and Dolores at some point snuck in to see if there was any about themselves, which led the adults to lock the tower's door and forbid the kids from entering.
After the new door appears, the adults multiply their attempts at reaching out to Bruno somehow and/or to get custody of the child at least, but those things are ignored too and King Beast's secretaries refuse to book an appointment for the Madrigals with the High King as the Madrigals aren't important enough to waste the High King's time. (perhaps, if she had heard of it, Belle would have met them. Not that it would do much, Cinderella had the chance to speak with her and nothing changed for Anastasia as per the Council's decision, but at least Cinderella knows the names of her step-niblings if nothing else. The Madrigals only had that C and a birthday date).
Cedar Box (Dolores Madrigal x Fem!Reader)
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Description: You were her best friend growing up, her first love, is it really okay to move on? It’s been years but the hurt still burns like the day she found out you were gone forever. Can she really move on and love someone else… especially when you saved a spot for her to lay with you in the end.
~ I’ve been laying in this box made out of cedar ~
Y/n and Dolores giggled quietly, struggling to stifle their laughs as they peaked around the small cubby door to watch as a head of wild fiery hair whipped around, brow raised as a smile soon pulled at Pepa’s lips. “Hmm, guess we’ve lost those two, more food for us” Y/n gasped and looked to Dolores before she crawled out from the hiding space Casita had made for them. “Did she make arepas?” Y/n bounced on her tiptoes as she spoke and smiled up at Pepa, who with an amused smile patted Y/n’s hair down affectionately. “She knows those are you’re favourite right now, so she made extra~” Y/n giggled as her cheek was pinched softly before she turned, smile dropping as her eyes searched for Dolores once she realized she wasn’t followed. “Dol?”
It was quiet a moment before Dolores slowly crawled out from a small cubby with a frown. “I can’t believe you sold us out for Tía’s food” Y/n shook her head. “I don’t get to have it much since I don’t get hurt, I’m sorry though” Dolores stood up quietly, her arms crossing as a pout crossed her features. “Pouts don’t belong on a face as pretty as yours” Y/n hummed happily as she reached for Dolores hand and pulled her close to her side and tugged her gently towards the kitchen; Eyes lighting up as she shifted her attention to Dolores, smile widening at the small smile she caught growing on the older girls features. “Just because it’s your birthday, happy 6th birthday Y/n”
~ For a lifetime or two ~
“Dolores?” The 14 year old hummed and shifted her honey eyes, locking eye with Y/n with a small smile. “I enjoy our chats” Dolores nodded after a moment and sat up straighter as Casita gently bumped her back. “I do too. Are you coming to my birthday?” Y/n nodded quickly. “Of course I am amiga, I wouldn’t forgive myself if I missed it!” Dolores flinched back slightly and strained a small uncomfortable smile to Y/n. “I’m sorry.” Dolores took in a deep breath, uncomfortableness easing as she shook her head “it’s okay, it just surprised me is all”
Y/n sighed and slumped forward elbows resting on her knees, as she tilted her head in Dolores direction. “No. I should be more considerate” sitting up straight Y/n smiled “I got it” she took in a breath and breathed out her next sentence in a quiet whisper. “If I talk quiet - being with me with be easier on you, and I won’t be too loud for you” Dolores smiled and shook her head, a laugh falling off her lips as she looked away from Y/n. “It’s no fair” Dolores smile fell and she quickly looked back to Y/n. “What’s not fair?” Huffing Y/n looked away from Dolores with a small pout. “You’re too pretty for your own good” Dolores took in a soft surprised breath before she shifted her attention to Y/n’s eyes.
“Isabela is the prettier one” the sentence was finished with a sheepish laugh and Y/n huffed, annoyed as she lost Dolores’ gaze, the young Madrigal seated unfazed, as if that sentence was one she heard and said a lot. “Not in my eyes, no one’s as pretty as you” honey doe eyes met with E/C ones and Dolores found herself searching for any sign that Y/n didn’t mean what she said. She took in a deep breath before her eyes flickered to Y/n’s lips for only a second. She found herself gravitating towards Y/n, lost in her eyes.
“Y/n!” Swallowing thickly Dolores sat back tensely, blinking a few times quickly before she shook her head and looked for the source of the loud voice. Her eyes landed on her younger brothers frame before hands quickly covered her ears. “Camilo! Not so loud!” The 8 year old huffed and crossed his arms before he spun himself into Y/n. “CaMilo NoT sO lOud” he mocked back before laughing at the annoyed glare he received from Y/n. “Enough now Camilo, what do you want?” Dolores gently tapped Y/n’s hands as she spoke, and turned to smile thankfully at the younger girl before she turned her attention back to Camilo. “Also apologize” Camilo sighed exaggeratedly before he shifted back into himself. “Tía wants to know if she should be setting a place for Y/n tonight.” Y/n lowered her hands to rest on Dolores shoulders before smiling at Camilo. “I love Señorita Julieta’s food, if I’m allowed to I’d love to stay”
~ Thought the two of us had plans for us to meet here ~
“Eat my tías food, that will help” Y/n sighed and shook her head. “It’s not. I’ve eaten so much and it’s still hurts” Dolores sighed and slumped forward, her head resting on Y/n’s shoulder, her ears strained to listen to the uneven thrumming of her heart. “You need to tell your parents” Y/n shook her head softly before tilting her head to rest atop Dolores. “I don’t want to worry them with something your tía’s food can’t even fix.” Dolores sigh as Y/n wrapped her arms around Dolores tightly. “Well - maybe - Maybe they can figure something out!” Dolores flinched back at her own raised voice and pulled herself away from Y/n’s grasp. “Dol, it’s okay…”
“No! I love you too much to just sit back and watch! I’m telling you’re parents -“ teeth clashed with teeth a second before Dolores pulled back, eyes wide and confused at the shocked face of Y/n. “I’m so sorry Dolores I didn’t-“ Dolores huffed and leaned forward, gently kissing Y/n’s cheek with a soft sigh, eyes closed as she bathed in Y/n’s warmth, and finally being close to her. Opening her eyes Dolores slowly shifted her attention to Y/n’s E/C eyes, finding stubborn and curious eyes already looking back at her.
“Please” Dolores breath ghosted over Y/n’s cheeks as the two gazed into each others eyes, desperation in one and stubbornness burning in the other. “I love you. I don’t want to lose you because you’re too stubborn to ask for help” Y/n shut her eyes tightly, ignoring the tightening in her throat as gentle lips grazed over trembling lips and Y/n sucked in a shaky breath before she leaned into the kiss. Y/n pulled back slightly, her lips ghosting over Dolores as she spoke quietly. “Alright… alright okay fine, only because it’s you” Dolores reached up slowly, hand gently wiping tears that fell with a gentle hand.
~ So I waited for you ~
“How did I know.” Pepa smiled happily at the two before her, a warmth radiating from her as she reached forward and pulled the two close to her body. “My baby is growing up too quickly!” A small speckles of rain started to sprinkle the three as Pepa held them in a tight hug, refusing to let them go. “Mamí, please! You’re going to get us wet” Dolores stifled a laugh for only a moment before she was humming happily, her eyes locking with Y/n happily. “I told you, nothing to worry about”
~ And as the great beyond called out for me to come on home I didn’t go into the light ~
A knock sounded through the air and the bedroom door softly creaked open. “Dolores, mi vida.” Dolores hummed and turned her attention to the door of her room and to Pepa, her eyes clouding with curiosity. “How long have you been in your room today?“ Dolores lowered her book to her lap and licked her lips in thought. “All day, I’ve been a little overwhelmed the last few days… why?” Pepa sighed and closed the door quietly, her eyes down cast as she walked over to Dolores bed. She quietly sat down at the edge of Dolores bed, her arms opening as she gently urged Dolores to sit up. When Dolores sat up she quickly noticed the trickle of tears at the corner of Pepa’s eyes. “Mamí? What’s wrong?” Pepa shook her head as she took in a deep breath, her hands pulling Dolores in to a tight hug. “Mamí?”
“You know Y/n’s health has been on a decline for a few years now…”
~ Didn’t wanna walk along that winding road ~
Dolores huffed quietly as she dragged her gaze away from Mariano. Heart clenching as she took in a deep breath, desperate to find a distraction. Something to pull her attention from Mariano. A hand reached forward and grasped her arm gently. A quiet throat clearing filled Dolores ears and she instantly turned, eyes on the hand. With wide surprised eyes Dolores followed the arm to meet nearly eye to eye with Mariano. “I know you might not want to talk to me, as it feels like you’ve been ignoring me… but” Mariano lifted a piece of paper, catching Dolores’ attention. “I wrote a poem for you” Mariano smiled confidently, eyes shimmering with anticipation as he stood taller. He peeked once more at the paper before letting his hand roam down to Dolores hand, he squeezed gently before nodding to himself.
“It’s cheesy… but it’s written from the heart…. Roses are red, violets are blue-“ Dolores’ breath caught in her throat and she instantly pulled her hand back, her eyes wide as she stumbled back over her own feet. Tilting his head in confusion Mariano smiled nervously, concern pooling in his eyes as he took a hesitant step forward. “Dolores?” A hand gently found the small of Dolores back and she turned quickly, body tensing as her eyes locked with the worried eyes of Pepa. “Breath mí vida”
“Roses are red, violets are blue, have I mentioned I’m in love with you?” Dolores breathing spiked and she clenched her jaw, eyes screwed shut as she turned away from Mariano, her arms thrown around Pepa’s shoulders as a staggered breath was dragged in. “I remember you said you liked poems, so….” Voices were muffled as rain numbingly fell on the two. “Roses are red, violets are blue, love never crossed my mind until the day I met you” a familiar giggle echoed in Dolores ears as she allowed herself to be led up the stairs and to her room.
“Roses and violets… why’s it always those?” Y/n hummed to herself quietly eyes shifting to look up at Dolores’ curious doe eyes. “I’ll tell you…. On one condition” Dolores tilted her head a small smile pulling at her lips. “Marry me” Dolores squeaked quietly, surprise crossing her features as she processed Y/n’s words. “Marry…. Me?” Y/n hummed in content, pen tapping teasingly in amusement “I’d love to, thought you’d never ask amada. Now this is for you” Y/n folded the paper and held it out to Dolores, leaning forward to kiss her softly. Y/n pulled back slowly, smiling as her eyes caught the flush brushing at Dolores cheeks. “Read it in a week, now. My end of the deal. Roses represent romance, love, beauty, and courage.” Dolores nodded and Y/n kissed The tip of Dolores nose. “Violets represent truth and loyalty, while also embodying a sense of modesty, spiritual wisdom and humility”
Dolores gripped the worn page tightly, eyes clouding with tears as she read over the lines, a poem she had engrained in her mind from the very moment it became hers.
Roses are red
Violets are blue
You asked me today
If I'd marry you
Kissing my lips, cherry red
Your eyes shining blue
I said I would love
To spend a lifetime with you
~ Con Amor.
Y/n
~ For fear of leaving you behind ~
“Dolores?” The young adult took in a breath, and turned her head away from the sound of Camilo’s voice. “Leave me alone Camilo” Camilo sighed and stepped quietly into Dolores’ room, the door shutting with a soft click, his arms instantly wrapped around Dolores’ frame. “It’s okay to miss her” Dolores’ body shuddered and she tried to stifle the sob that clawed at her throat. “I miss her, mamí misses her, Papí too.” Arms slowly wrapped around Camilo, tightening as a sob finally escaped without restraint. “Everyone misses Y/n so much, but” Camilo gently rubbed Dolores back, his cheek gently resting on top of Dolores head as he stared at the picture of Dolores and Y/n on her bedside table.
“You’re allowed to move on, you’re allowed to love again, just because she was your first love… doesn’t mean she has to be your last.” Dolores shook her head, eyes closing as she fought back tears, fought to find her voice and struggled to force breaths down her throat. “I - I can’t” hands tightened on Camilo’s yellow chameleon ruana and the teen staggered a sigh. “I loved Y/n like a sister” Camilo’s voice wavered as he spoke and he took in a deep breath to ground himself. “I thought the two of you were going to have a big beautiful wedding one day… but… I feel like… maybe Y/n sent Mariano to you for a reason… to help heal you’re broken heart” Camilo tightened his arms, and closed his eyes as tears stung at the corner of his eyes. “Another chance at love, one you didn’t have to take if you didn’t want”
~ And now I’m stuck between the never and the forever just the same ~
Dolores took in a breath, her eyes closed as she soaked in the sun, the breeze, the noises. “Mi amor… I think I’m in love with him” she spoke softly into the breeze, hands raising to rub at her closed eyes. She took in a deep breath before she opened her eyes and looked down, eyes trailing over the marked grave before she shifted her eyes to empty spot next to it. “I wish my gift was to hear the dead…” groaning softly in frustration Dolores sat down with a rough thud, uncaring of the dirt splotches her dress was sure to have when she had to leave. “He’s so much like you… but so different… he’s loud…” Dolores let out a unenthusiastic laugh, hands pulling at the grass softly to distract herself.
“Mamí told me you asked for this spot to be saved… was it supposed to be for me?” Dolores listened to the chip of birds, her eyes shifting to the engraved name and dates. “What if I forget… I don’t want to forget.” Swallowing the lump in her throat Dolores sighed. “Everything is so…. So confusing, a part of me is missing without you…. But” shifting her attention Dolores looked up to the sky. “I can’t help but cling to that familiar feeling… of being loved… of loving” Dolores raised a hand to rest over her heart, feeling the beating rhythm before she spoke once more.
“I’m stuck up in you but my body feels likes it’s working against me… pushing me to love him… is that your doing?”
~ All cause I sat here in the cold, and dark, and waited for you and you never came ~
Dolores smiled happily up at Mariano, eyes shimmering with a smitten gleam. “Will you marry me Dolores” without missing a beat the young adult nodded, her ears for the first time in a long time not bothered by the loudness of her family, and the communities shouts of excitement and happiness.
I waited, in the dark, for you to be by my side once more, saved a spot for you to lay with me. I knew it wasn’t guaranteed, to have you in my arms once more but our love was strong and my heart could only beat for you.
Yours beats for another now. No matter how much I pulled, selfishly so I wanted you all to myself. To forever call you mine and forever be yours. It only makes sense that my selfish ways would push your soul to another, so now I lay here by myself. Forever to roam these empty halls with echos of memories.
So as I screamed your name, as you said ‘I do’ I felt my footing crumble. Because I’m selfish and I wanted you to myself. Today is you’re day though. You’re happy, and although it feels like ice when I reach for you I can’t help but smile; as you laugh… as you smile… as you live your life that I could not live with you.
I could never hate you after all. My soul only knows love for you mi amada.
But… I’ve since lost my sense of direction, running for you, and I’m forever embraced by the numbing nothingness I call my afterlife. I ran from the light and warmth to stay by you, and now it’s turned it’s back on me as I desperately grasp for footings in the dark. Every step I take to the light takes me two steps closer to you. For my souls seems bound to you, forever destined to be alone, in the cold and dark.
You’re happy… that’s all I could have asked for, so I’d spend a thousand lifetimes like this.
Decay AU | Dante Madrigal (repost)
Tumblr media
Dante Madrigal, born from Isabela Madrigal from the Decay AU, conceived and born in the Watcher AU ten years after she left; leading him to be one of the first of the group to start his very existence in the Watcher AU, unlike his Variant-Tia, Verana who was conceived in her mother’s AU but was born in the Watcher AU.
He was a two days later than expected but rather small but born via a C-section as he was fully breech and tangled in his umbilical cord.
He spent the first day days of life between his mother and Variant-Abuela, Pariah Julieta who had most experience with babies, given her more recent daughter, Rana who had been ten at the time of Dante’s birth.
His father was not in his life, nor was Decay actively talking about him, as he was a product of an one-night stand between his mother and a passing partner; her birth control had expired before she realised after the fact. Decay often had many partners of both men and women, favoured towards the latter as working in the Watcher AU was stressful and tense, so the need of relief and relaxation couldn’t always be solved through therapy. It’s not an uncommon occurrence for accidents to happen.
Dante wasn’t planned but she opted to keep him after his birth than give him up for adoption, which she had considered a lot. Decay took a year from active service for maternity leave with pariah Julieta helping. This allowed her time to bond and care for her son, but also look into other areas of the Watcher Casita, such as the education area where she properly met Abscond Luisa, who had two twin herself and Fracture Alma, who had three 19 year old triplets.
-
Dante was 5 when he gained his own door and gift, enabling him the ability of Mediumship and it’s sub-gifts of how to handle the spirits of the dead.
Dante was the first to summon and interact with his Bisabuelo Pedro who was the kindest spirit he found so when his mother was busy and his baby siters were occupied, sometimes he would summon Pedro to play with him. When bad ghosts appeared, Pedro would protect his bisnieto; channelling his gift to vanquish the spirits on his behalf while trying to keep the child obvious to the danger and fear that the bad ghosts could inflict.
Dante loves playing with his mother’s hair, so even when she’s struggling, he wants to be really helpful. More so when her arms are acting up. He helps her put her arms to charge at night and to help them on in the morning
He had three different outfits, all blue in relation to his mother’s family’s colours. He loves wearing a blur ruana with friendly little ghosts on his Variant-Tia Wanderer made. He enjoyed the time with his Variant-Abuelo, Stray Agustin and looked up to him as a role model
Dante’s gift:
Mediumship
Evocation, Spectrokinesis, Communing, Spirit Summoning.
It was considered he naturally had retroactive immortality but no-one was willing to test such an idea and Decay wouldn’t allow it.
