Do you think the parentage retcon has more adversely impacted Pietro than Wanda? Maybe it’s less that and more the popularity of the mcu (👎) “version” of Wanda, but I feel like Pietro’s always been more x-involved—in part because magic doesn’t fit super well into mutant stories most of the time (Magik is a hot ticket now but they didn’t seem to like her in the 80s and 90s imo) and Pietro’s closer ties to magneto (in looks, in shifting ideologies, in aus, etc).
Recontextualizing the maximoffs as non-mutants from a more magical heritage has its issues and advantages, but really doesn’t do much for pietro. Without the magneto/brotherhood/mutant connection, wanda is still a foremost marvel sorcerer, but Pietro’s kind of just a B list avenger with a powerset people seem hesitant to use
A lot of people seem to believe that the retcon was bad for Pietro, but I don't think it was any worse for him than it was Wanda. It's true that Wanda just has more going on, and she tends to overshadow him-- Billy and Tommy have the same problem-- but that's been the case since at least the Busiek era, arguably earlier. That's probably why she's had two solo series in the last decade, and he's had one mini. Without his connections to the mutants, Pietro doesn't have many landing places. Setting aside the fact that most of his X-Men roles were either HoM-related or written by Peter David, yes, it was a bigger loss for Pietro than it was Wanda.
The thing is, they both continued to get a lot of page time after the AXIS retcon, and then they both fell off the map for a little while in 2018/2019, which is when the Avengers and X-Men lines were both relaunched under new direction... meaning Uncanny Avengers had to end, writers like Jim Zub, who had been most interested in utilizing these characters, had fewer opportunities to write them.
Up until that point, they'd both been getting storylines, some, to do with their new parentage, but some not. I think between Zub and Ahmed, Pietro received some of the best, most positive character treatment he'd had in decades. Unfortunately, he hasn't bounced back from that 2019-era shift the same way Wanda has. I would be naive if I didn't admit that Wanda's rise to prominence was due in part to how marketable she's become thanks to the M C U. But ultimately, no, I don't think Pietro fell off because of the retcon-- I just think Wanda has more advantages.

This Day in X-Project - December 20
PHASE 2
2015: Operation: Mutant of the Seas: Jubilee and Cammie turn up a potential connection to that location of the distress signal, a particular area of the Atlantic; Felicia and Gabriel spends too much time in the midst of marketing materials; Emma and North are able to identify the potential owners of the cruise ship.
2016: Gabriel posts about falling asleep on the Metro-North.
2017: Miles celebrates the end of semester and his sheer lack of a social life. Johnny posts about the imminent invasion by one C. Kringle and his plans to take him down. Kyle asks Doug to delete police reports of his night drinking with Clarice and the subsequent bar fight. Clea announces she’s flying back to England for the holidays and that she’s not looking forward to talking about her birth family with her parents. Tandy asks for volunteers at her uncle’s soup kitchen over the holiday period.
2018: Gabriel checks on Artie and discovers just how Not Okay he is.
2019:
2020: Operation: Siege Perilous: Jubilee seeks out Kevin to find out more about him, and he’s his usual grumpy self. Maya asks if anyone wants to go to Mardi Gras in February.
2021: Gabe leaves a gift by Darcy’s door. Arise, X-Man: Darcy sleeps badly and when she wakes she tells Doug she needs to talk to Laurie; Darcy sends a text to Doug reiterating her plans since she wasn’t sure he was awake enough to understand them the first time; Darcy tries to talk to Laurie about her headaches but Laurie finally reveals she’s the cause and there’s a damaging powers feedback loop which leaves Darcy unconscious; Doug texts Darcy repeatedly and becomes concerned when he doesn’t get a reply; Doug raises the alarm and gets a teleport from the X-Force offices to the mansion so he can check on Darcy; Laurie goes to Essex’ lab for the treatment which will restore her arm; Blink asks for X-Men volunteers to find Laurie as she’s also incommunicado; Spectrum reports in that she, Wolverine and Wildchild haven’t found Laurie, but they have found her phone and are retracing her steps; finding Essex’s labs deserted, the X-Men enter and find Laurie in some kind of pod not unlike the Genoshan mutate pods Essex had created and Spectrum reacts badly and cuts the power to the pod, causing Laurie to have a series of strokes; Blink provides an update on the conditions of Darcy and Laurie, who are both in the medlab. Jubilee and Gabriel meet the owners of the bodega at the base of the new X-Force offices.
2022: Betsy makes a journal entry about leaving for home for the holidays and inquiring if anyone wants anything brought back. Clint texts Namor to ask about Secret Santa rules.

Cher and Donna Summer Almost Starred in Marvel’s Dazzler!
Marvel’s first big-screen outing was almost a camp disco epic starring Cher and Donna Summer
Long before the stubbornly-heterosexual Marvel Cinematic Universe, cinema-goers were almost treated to a camp superhero epic that would have pitted Cher and KISS against Donna Summer and her Village People army.
In 1979, Casablanca Records and some Hollywood execs wanted Marvel to piece together a script for a movie about Dazzler, an all-singing mutant superhero who can convert sound vibrations into light and energy beams, making her a literal blast at parties.
Dazzler had made her comic book debut earlier that year, conceived in response to the rise of disco and in the hopes that Marvel would be able to make a leap into music.
According to Gizmodo, then-Marvel editor in chief Jim Shooter was asked to write up a Dazzler movie treatment in four days. And what he created was probably the most mind-boggling superhero-pop-music-heavy-metal crossover in history.
In a 2011 blog post about the proposed movie, Shooter recalled how Neil Bogart of Casablanca Records wanted “lots of Marvel heroes” in the movie and “stars he had under contract to provide voices for the non-Marvel characters”.
Shooter’s outline saw Dazzler, the Avengers and Spider-Man dumped into a bonkers future where they would battle super power-endowed versions of KISS and the Village People. Yes, for real.
And who would lead these powerhouses of music and apparently evil? None other than Cher and Donna Summer, who would have ruled over a futuristic version of New York.
Gizmodo reported that Cher would have been cast as the Witch Queen – a part she’d rock, let’s be real – who was the leader of the Deadknights (to be played by KISS).
Donna Summer would have been be her enemy, the Queen of Fire, whose minions were set to be played by the Village People.
At one point in the script, Cher’s character holds Iron Man, Spider-Man and the Scarlet Witch captive in a wasteland version of a lone World Trade Center tower.
Tumblr media
Bo Derek (Tarzan’s Jane) was set to take on the lead role as Dazzler. Robin Williams was slated to be cast as Tristan, the main love interest in the film.
But alas, this camp fever dream wasn’t meant to be. In his blog, Shooter described how Marvel decided to hire another screenwriter to deliver the project, because he was “just a comic book writer”.
The late Leslie Stevens took an entirely new approach, one Shooter described as a “piece of c**p that defies description”.
Derek eventually turned down the role, telling Yahoo in August 2021: “It would have taken a lot of training, so I wasn’t anxious to do all that.”
After that, the project came crashing to a halt as studios started to withdraw bids for the movie.
Marvel eventually made its cinematic debut with 1986’s Howard the Duck, considered one of the worst films of all time. Dazzler made her movie debut decades later, in the 2019 X-Men film Dark Phoenix.

Writing-to-cope is nothing new for me, and over the past year-and-a-half, I’ve done just that. The result: A Small Mercy, a continuation of my crack-tastic self-insert parody Blocked focusing on the fallout from the deaths of my uncle and Gran in 2018 and 2019.
Folks, everything in this story happened with only one exception: Donatello is fictional so he obviously wasn’t there. What’s that mean? Unless my husband Cold is in the scene, I went through it alone. In this story, Donnie functions as a stand-in for the comfort I needed and didn’t have, the support I got from friends and family, and occasionally, that little angel on my shoulder poising questions I didn’t want to ask and trying to convince me of something I didn’t want to accept.
I left out a lot because there was just too much to include, and I kept a lot of things vague because they still hurt. This was fucking traumatizing to live through, and the story is not likely to be easy reading. Still, it has a happy ending - although Life rarely has happy endings - and I much appreciate anyone who chooses to read it.
You can find the story on Fanfiction.net, Ao3, and Adult-Fanfiction.org, and it’s rated T.
Warnings for language, drinking, grieving, death in the family, mentions of abuse and terminal illness.

Hey, I love your blog ❤️. Can I ask for Uniq full story? I've seen a bits of it online but it's such a mess I can't figure out what's truth. Have a nice day 😁
FUNNY how i received this ask when i was crying about wenhan’s baby angel voice in best friend just earlier
tldr if i ever meet du hua it’s on SIGHT
LOL okay idk if this is the FULL story i probably won’t include details and stuff because i didn’t closely follow uniq during their whole hiatus thing (i had the brainpower to stan one group at a time but now look at me TWO kpop groups AND i’m starting to follow a cpop group AND pd camp 2020 AND am constantly fuming at yibo and xiao zhan’s management agencies for ruining their idol groups )
pls correct me if i’m wrong im small brain ok i’m putting this in keep reading bc it’s too long and a ramble
tldr thanks yuehua for messing w/ 5 guys’ dreams.. even though they’re successful they’re not able to do what they originally wanted to
also there’s this legendary video dragging yuehua
also thank u for ur love sweetie i love u too xoxo i hope ur having a wonderful day/evening/night!
LOOL anyway so uniq is a korean-chinese boy group formed under yuehua ent which has korean and chinese management ... you probably know other kpop artists from yuehua like wjsn (co-managed by starship) or everglow... if you’re into cpop there’s next/next7...anyway they have 3 chinese members(yixuan, wenhan, and yibo) and 2 korean members (sungjoo and seungyoun) and they debuted in 2014 with falling in love, promoted btwn china and korea, released a couple of osts (for like, teenage mutant ninja turtles and madagascar lol lol lol) and then in 2015 they came back w/ eoeo (if you’re into kpop you probably know eoeo at least) it’s their most well-known song, and this comeback was w/ their first (and only lol lol) ep/mini album.
they started garnering a good amount of attention and started to appear on more variety shows in korea and china, started promoting in japan, they even went to brazil in a fanmeet that’s pretty cool lol , (but...why didn’t they solidify uniq’s position in kr/ch with their momentum instead of sending them to different countries??? we love money-minded yeehaw entertainment)
and then china’s hallyu ban happened (which is something that i never really understood and never took the time to fully research because it hurt my brain) but essentially chinese govt restricted k-entertainment from profitting in china because politics, for example a lot of kpop tours and fanmeets got cancelled. and this put uniq in a difficult position because they’re split between being based in china and korea, but eventually the ban got lessened (there’s still tension but like, there’s literally adore u playing in the camp of pd camp 2020 ep 2 so like lol) but yeehaw made NO efforts to maintain the group musically b/c they’re money-minded cows and if they split uniq up into a kr and a chinese unit they can’t make as much money as if they sent the members into acting.... (literally there’s an interview from a couple yrs back where xuan talks about how itd be nice to make music but it doesn’t make as much as acting does in china :-(( ) so while they still had events in japan, they didn’t do much together in their main bases, and acted a lot cool cool
one thing i never understood is why yuehua never just pushed them more in the kr market...there are so many groups in the k-industry w/ chinese members (i literally STAN one, my ULT is a chinese member in a kpop group what the HECK)...but making money right lol anyway so xuan, wenhan, and yibo went into acting in china (and yibo is an mc on day day up), and acting takes up sm time, (gonna quote my chinese friend here who’s a sad wjsn ot13 stan who misses cheng xiao, mmq, and wxy, once ur popular in china it’s goodbye kpop) and sungjoo went into acting in korea (if you’ve ever watched my secret terrius or the disaster that was liar and his lover w/ joy, sungjoo is in those lol) and seungyoun continued to produce and release music as woodz and luizy
but it’s sad because they all trained for so long to perform on the stage as 5 but yuehua’s shitty management in the hallyu ban crisis thing really screwed them over...in terms of being on the stage like come on! THEY HAVE TALENT.. ok in early 2018 they released an ep and in dec 2018 they released their single monster (last single together lol), but again, no group promotion, no being able to perform on the stage, no nothing (oh yeah also yibo was a dance mentor on produce 101 china in 2018 nice)
2019 was a good year for most of the members:
-wenhan went on qcyn (youth with you season 1, the second show in the idol producer franchise) and got 1st, debuting in unine which he’s currently a part of, and got to perform on the stage after years of not being able to, thanks yuehua
-yixuan went on all for one (another survival program from youku), also got 1st, and debuted in new storm
-yibo (as we all know) acted in the untamed and became ultra-popular for his well-roundedness
-seungyoun went on the 4th season/spinoff of produce 101 in kr called produce x 101 and got 5th place, debuting in x1, which later disbanded, THANKS MNET THAT’S ANOTHER STORY BUT anyway i don’t think seungyoun was rigged into place, does yuehua even care that much?? lmOA he was so loveable on px101 and i think the move perf rly sealed the deal for everyone
-sungjoo...was done dirty by yeehaw...he’s a MAIN VOCAL he has SOLo potential but yeehaw just put him in the dungeon thanks.. and he recently enlisted in the army not too long ago
oh also sungjoo, xuan, and yibo performed monster + eoeo together at yuehua’s 10 anniversary concert...seungyoun wasn’t there because of x1 and wenhan performed with unine
wow yeehaw really thought they deserved a 10th anniversaryy celebration LMFAO
***the members are still part of uniq though, survival shows are weird
anyway as we can see each member is talented in their own way and uniq is an unfortunate case of yuehua not knowing how to manage people lol but if you watch their shows you know that they’re genuine and tight-knit, and even though they might not be together rn, in their hearts they’re still a part of uniq (cue pics of their weibo usernames having uniq in them, cue wenhan spamming his dad’s video with “UNIQ IS STILL TOGETHER” when his dad talks about how uniq disbanded) and they haven’t forgotten their identity of being part of uniq even as they get older. their contracts expire in 2022 and w/ kim sungjoo in the army, who knows if they actually will make a comeback but this is why everyone hates yuehua and everyone misses uniq bye
again i know they’re successful individually, i know seungyoun’s able to produce his own music, yibo’s able to turn his hobbies into work, wenhan and yixuan are still able to perform on a stage, they came here for uniq and got separated w/o them ever wanting to

Secret Mutant 2019 Round-up
So this was one of the first ever fandom events I’ve ever joined in and I wrote a couple of fics, both for Cherik and other miscellaneous pairs! In no particular order:
no such thing as bad publicity (4562 words) - Cherik, mutual pining, oblivious idiots being oblivious, grumpy protective Erik Several months ago, Charles Xavier and his twenty mutant students were kicked out into the streets after the Xavier mansion was seized by Sebastian Shaw to settle an old debt. At the same time, Erik Lehnsherr, founder and CEO of Lehnsherr Steel was embroiled in a publicity scandal that resulted in a backlash against his business. In an attempt to repair his reputation, Erik charitably opened his penthouse duplex to Xavier and his children. The kids are loud and hyperactive, and Xavier too damn kind and earnest and hopeful, but eventually they settled into an uneasy peace.
Now, months later, the publication of a provocative magazine article threatens to throw everything into chaos once more...
with eyes downcast (2099 words) - Kurt Marko/Charles, underage, character study The listless turn of days.
(Charles grows up. He is missing something, but he doesn't know what.)
The Time for Home (4040 words) - Cherik, sci-fi AU, old(er) mutants in love, DOMESTIC FLUFF!!! The relationship between diplomat Charles Xavier and engineer-turned-vigilante Erik Lehnsherr is a tumultuous one. However, once a year, they enjoy a week of (relative) peace and quiet with only each other for company. This year sees them on the planet Didyma in the depths of winter.
Sowing the seeds of discord (691 words) - ESN/Charles, background Cherik, non-con (non-explicit), mythology AU Charles is the golden apple of Greek mythology. En Sabah Nur wins him.
Bonus: Technically not part of the challenge, but for one of my Madness prompts I wanted a harem AU of some sort and ended up plot bunnying myself for it so hard I started building a whole new AU with a friend of mine! Come check it out, we’ve done a metric fuckton of world-building and we’re starting a fic collection!
carrying the torch (6261 words) - Cherik, Shaw/Erik/Charles in all combinations, non-con, harem AU, angst and H/C Erik has lived under Shaw’s thumb for most of his life after being captured in a failed rebellion. Charles is a new arrival to the harem, and already he has an agenda of his own. The bond they develop comes as a surprise to both of them, but now that they have each other, can they survive Shaw’s attentions?
AND FOR THE GIFTS I GOT oh my goddddd i’m so excited about them!!!!!! @ikeracity was my gifter for the main exchange and she wrote me the longest and THE BEST au with Charles as a runaway from ESN, and Erik as a hunter sent after him. Absolutely brilliant characterization with both Charles and Erik being wonderfully competent BAMFs slowly learning to trust each other and work together. I love love love the way ESN was written, and there are a few surprise characters involved ;D (and of course, plenty of cuddling and sharing body warmth! eeeeeeee)
all your love is sunlight by ikeracity (29961 words) Over twenty years ago, the world ended an inferno. From the ashes of what was once a modern world, survivors gathered what remained and slowly knit civilization back together. The Keep is one of the largest new cities in the north, ruled by the iron fist of a mutant named Apocalypse. He keeps an inner circle of favored mutants around him, a mixture of some of the most powerful mutants to walk the earth. But when his most prized treasure, Charles Xavier, escapes from the Keep, he sends wanderer and hunter Erik Lehnsherr after him.
An easy task, Erik figures. But soon enough, he discovers that Charles is much more of a handful than he'd bargained for. Their tumultuous meeting sets into motion a chain of events that will lead them deep into unfamiliar territory--in both the world and in matters of the heart.
for madness i got 4(!!!!!) different fics dealing with Christmas time at the mansion, all of them wonderfully bittersweet as Charles struggles through the dark days after Cuba/pre-DoFP and finds love and support from the people around him. Please read the first two in particular if you’re in the mood to read fics centered on the platonic love and loyalty between Hank and Charles, because there’s simply not enough of that relationship out there!
And I Wouldn't Have It (Any Other Way) by librata It's 1970, and Charles hasn't been dealing with a decade of loss with as much grace as he could. Hank wants to help.
There's Only Us by flightinflame Being alone in the mansion on Christmas, their children sent to war, is breaking Charles's heart. Luckily, one other resident remains.
i love you straightfowardly, without complexities or pride by lavenderlotion They were mere feet apart, and all Charles wanted was to get closer.
Missing Pieces by librata After coming home from Cuba with what's left of his little family, Charles is doing all he can to forget and move forward. Too bad a certain someone keeps pulling him back.
Thank you so much @jackyjango for running the event this year! Had a brilliant time and I’m still going through the fics because there’s SO MUCH good stuff!

Fandom list
For those of you who are new here, or those of you who have been here a long time and need an update, here are a list of fandoms that I either a) write for, b) enjoy and haven’t done anything for yet or c) reblog a lot about. I just thought I’d make this!
It’s pretty long, so I’m going to put the list under the cut, but if you’re curious, these are all the things I’m currently into to some extent, and if anyone is intrigued by the things you see, my AO3 can be found here!
I’m not going to put any of these fandoms in the tags. I’m just going to pin it to the top of my blog for anyone to see, so if there’s anything you want to request or chat to me about, shoot me an ask and I’ll be happy to talk with you! I’m always happy to take requests or ideas! I do write mostly gen, unless the characters are already in an established relationship. You know what? Mass Effect Fictober 2019
Welcome to Fictober, Mass Effect Fan Fiction Writers! Where our fics are made up and the plots don’t matter! Instead of following Ao3′s offerings, our Mass Effect Fan Fiction Writer’s Group on Facebook decided to put together our own. This doesn’t mean we didn’t snag any of their prompts though. Not part of the Fan fiction group? That’s okay. You can play along here on tumblr too, but I totally suggest joining our group. They are an awesome group of people who are supportive of each other regardless as to what ship we sail on and we always welcome those who are like-minded.
What is Fictober? You’ve heard of Inktober, I’m sure. Artist focus on doodling in their mediums. I’m of the firm belief that writers are artists too. Our medium is with words rather than with sketches done with pencil or paintings done with watercolor. Heck, I still use a pen to write my fictions before I post. So I guess there is that. That counts, right? So writers, let’s have some fun with our medium of choice.
Here are some basic guidelines and etiquette we are asking of our participants:
1) Write a story with the prompt given. Post it preferably on the day the prompt is assigned to. We would also prefer if they were new stories rather than old ones.
2)Please indicate the following at the beginning of your post: a) title b)rating preferably with why c)pairing if applicable d) Andromeda or Original trilogy e) tag it #MEFFictober2019  f) indicate which prompt it is for
3) Do not worry if you skip a day or whatever. The main point of this is to have fun. Post late? That’s okay. Combine themes? Coolio too (please indicate which days you’re combining). If you only take a part of the theme? I approve!
4) We are going to do something that not a lot of fictober events do. We’re going to offer a weekly prompt in addition to daily prompts. There were those who expressed in our group that they’d like to see a weekly prompt for those who could not do a daily situation. Not that a daily thing is mandated, but I figured that would be fun too. The prompts will be posted on a seven day interval (ie. if the prompt is for day one, the next one will not be assigned until the 8th).
5) And finally, remember this is meant to be fun. Please have some. Don’t stress over it. :D I promise I won’t come after you with my best witch impression and asked why you haven’t done your homework yet.
Without further ado, here are your prompts. Yes, I decided to theme it a little  bit. No surprise, I know.
