@just-another-linguist and @melestasflight both requested Fingon which was v exciting. Fingon is one of the characters that really stuck with me the first time I read the Silm, but I’ve never actually drawn him. In my mind this is like a Valinor-era Fingon!

co-high kings galadriel & celeborn
since elrond doesn't want the kingship, galadriel & celeborn are the eldest in middle-earth of the lines of Olwe and Elmo respectively. olwe is older but hes the king of the teleri not specifically doriath sindar so there might be some dispute between which line the sindarin high kingship jumps to, but they very conveniently happen to already be married and so can skip all that and just be twice the headache for sauron

listen i know the fandom loves their Mand'alor Din Djarin, but the idea of an actual canon king din djarin will forever be hilarious to me because out of everything the writers explored in his character, the single most consistent trait that keeps showing up for him is that he's highly unpredictable.
Like, from the very starting moment in the series he constantly makes drastic left turns in his judgement and breaks any percieved notion you have of him, and then he just keeps breaking the audience's mental structure around his character. You think he shows up and is quiet and distant? he pops up behind his bounty like a murderer and forcibly shoves him into a carbonite case. okay so this guy is cold and ruthless. except that he shows up very obedient and offering to the Tribe, gives all his earnings away, and has a whole internal mental breakdown in 3minutes. so he's vulnurable? nah, he actively hunts his teammates for sport because they finally pissed him off for good. BUT he also removes his pouldron so a child he's barely known for two days can sleep soft on his shoulder. A child that he took back by basically causing the death of his entire tribe, which he had sworn his life to by the way. First thing established in the series is him hating droids, and less than 30 minutes in he not only cooperates with and keeps a droid from dying, he also lifts him up, checks his circuits, asks about his wellbeing and whether he needs help. And 5 minutes later he shoots him dead.
This guy is so unpredictable, he has a moral code but noone has any idea what the fuck makes the list, least of all himself. Any barrier you make around his character he consistently breaks it and does the exact opposite. He's a rule breaker and anti-structure by default, never once does he hesitate to fuck shit up by the whim of his... something. Can't tell you if it's his heart of his mind or his gut because he's not consistent between the three of them either. When you think he's a self-serving individual, he turns around and saves a child, when you think he's a man of responsibility and community he makes a 180 turn and leaves everyone in the dust. And like, yeah. The anchor of Din Djarin's character is that when he can, he breaks routine procedure and structure.
And to have someone who consistently undermines stable paradigms become an enforcer of rules and boundaries and regulations? peak comedy honestly.

Headcanons for Aragorn and Arwen's kids
Eldarion:
So, he's the 100% canonical one... and I haven't got that much to say about him? Probably because he's canon, but...
He's known he'll one day be king since birth and it's always seemed the most natural thing in the world. He wears his heirship like well-worn coat; it's just that obvious a thing for him.
I don't mean he's entitled, by no means. If he lost this surety, he'd be disoriented, but he'd survive. As is, however, he knows he'll be king and it's as much a truth of life for him as grass being green or anything.
He's got this very specific air about him that's been common to all the half-elven boys (of his line at least, if there are more somewhere). It's not really definable, but if you stood him up next to Elladan/Elrohir/Elros/Elrond/even Eärendil at his age, it would have been obvious they're related.
Visually, he mostly takes after Arwen.
Long later, his first child is a daughter and Aragorn manages to get the law changed to allow for Ruling Queens in the future, citing the fact that his straight line of descent from Elros leads through two women who were unfairly passed over for the throne.
Gilraen Larinquë
For some reason I've decided the daughters both have a Sindarin and Quenya name each. Eldarion should also have one more name then, tbh, but I haven't come up with any.
"Gilraen" (S) is self explanatory. "Larinquë" (Q) popped into my head without explanation one day and associated itself very tightly with the character. It's the name of a tree that grew in Númenor ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
She usually goes by Larinquë.
She's got golden hair, which surprised literally everyone, because people of the line of Lúthien are typically dark. Her parents decide she must take after Galadriel, because that's the last person in her family tree to be blonde (actually there's also Eärendil but neither Arwen nor Aragorn ever saw him), but at some point Glorfindel pronounces her a carbon copy of Indis.
No one knows how come. The half-elven are famous for yielding people that look identical to their ancestors, but it's usually Lúthien. Still, Glorfindel should know so they shrug and move on.
Her character doesn't entirely fit in with the rest of the family either. No one knows where she got that certain primness and an exaggerated sense of what is proper, but she is like that.
They don't understand her, but respect her nonetheless.
When it comes to opinions on certain extended relatives, she absolutely loathes Fëanor & Sons in all the tales. She doesn't even think them narratively fascinating, just infuriating.
All of A&A's children are very musical (it took like a dozen generations of descent from Melian for the house of Elros to first produce someone who wasn't), but she's the most accomplished at playing the largest variety of instruments. Like virtuoso-level accomplished.
People are very surprised when after being quite suspicious of "those barbaric peoples in the South" she strikes up a friendship with the daughter of an ambassador.
Look, she knows how to admit she was wrong. That she now knows better. And she's always been too well-behaved to ever be impolite to somebody's face, that too, so turning a new leaf comes easily enough.
In fact the ambassador's daughter becomes her best friend and she visits her homeland with her one day.
And gets engaged to her cousin.
He's a scholar and they end up living in Minas Tirith where he translates things back and forth, sometimes official stuff, but also a lot of art, and dabbles in anthropology.
Eireniel Elrenë
"Eireniel" (S) means "daughter of kings", and tbh it's very appropriate, because there's few people descended from more kings in the world.
If it's formed analogously to "Eirenion"... well, that was a coincidence, thought it's not like Arwen is loath to commemorate her father's one-time best friend.
"Elrenë" (Q) means "memory of elves" and it might be a mothername of foresight actually??
Arwen spends a lot of time telling her children of the house of Finwë. Like, a lot.
But it's not just, or even mostly the legends. So much of it is composed of the stories Galadriel had told her once, of those little moments that never made it into history books, of who was like what in childhood... She doesn't think it should be forgotten.
And songs. Arwen knows a lot of songs that would mostly be scholarly interest at this point. And she teaches them to her kids, but mostly to Eireniel. Eireniel walks around Minas Tirith singing old songs of Doriath and Dorthonion in archaic dialects.
And one day, after Arwen is gone, she will decides to wrote those things up. And she does. It's not a typical history book, but it depicts everyone concerned as actual flesh-and-bone people. It becomes pretty popular for that.
On a different note, she also takes after Arwen and forms another link in the grand tradition of being Lúthien look-alikes.
Ok, it's not that simple actually. She does take after her father significantly and isn't identical to her mother. But when Celeborn first sees her after she goes through puberty, he takes a step back and exclaims "another one!". So the ressemblance is definitely there.
She and Eldarion are very close. Yes, poor Larinquë is the odd one out in this equation.
When it comes to musicality, she may not be as accomplished a player as her sister, but she really lives and breathes and thinks in music.
You know how people in ME are said to sometimes hear echoes of the Ainulindalë in the sea? Well, this is way stronger in Melian's descendants and doesn't only pertain to qater. In Eireniel's generation it's significantly weakend, but it's still there, and it shows.
Eireniel is just slightly weird.
There was this one time she stood in front of the sea somewhere in the coastal regions, and sang, and... things happened. There were people around, and they were intrigued to say the least.
She ends up marrying a son of the Lord of Dol Amroth and moving to the coast. She likes it there.
She has two children, Ëarnil and Eärwen and they're both silver haired. This is possibly even rarer than Larinquë's gold.
Two last completely random headcanons are that she enjoys sparring and has a funny habit of imitating birdcalls, which ability she bargained with a gardener to teach her as a child.

I just remembered the other thing I was going to say on my Arvedui and Pelendur post earlier today.
It’s sometimes presumed that Aragorn’s claim to the throne of Gondor is interchangeable with Arvedui’s, but this isn’t true. Arvedui pretended or believed that Númenor allowing women and their children to inherit somehow gave him a claim to the throne of Gondor as Princess Fíriel’s husband. He was wrong. Under Númenórean law, he would be a usurper had he succeeded, either of Fíriel or of their son Aranarth. But Aragorn is Aranarth’s heir, so had he chosen to claim the throne through Fíriel, the claim on that side would not be nearly so groundless.
However, Aragorn doesn’t actually try to make that claim. He firmly identifies himself as the heir of Isildur and claims the throne of Gondor as heir of Valandil -> Isildur -> Elendil, evading the entire prickly issue of royal inheritance through the female line (something that neither Arnor/Arthedain nor Gondor ever permitted, though the Stewards managed it by not claiming royalty).
On top of that, though, the rejection by Pelendur and the Council of Gondor is so sweeping that I suspect they would have rejected any argument that Arvedui made. This is veering into headcanon, but I think their overriding concern—above misogyny, above whatever Isildur may or may not have intended—was the subordination of Gondor’s interests to Arthedain’s. And Pelendur was a descendant of Anárion (according to POME and NOME) through some line that couldn’t claim the throne—likely through a female line. He excluded himself and his own descendants from the succession forever to keep the house of Isildur out of Gondor.
Something that’s interesting about Aragorn in the book, though, is that he’s ... pretty damn enthusiastic about becoming King of Gondor for its own sake. Like, yes, he restores Arnor and reunites the kingdoms and all, but I think it’s clear that Gondor is not subordinated to Arnor in his rule or mind. If anything, the end of “The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen” indicates that Aragorn’s rule was centered on Minas Anor to the end of his very long life.
So while the heirs of Isildur were eventually able to take power in Gondor, it makes sense that Aragorn—the victorious captain who was willing to jeopardize himself for Gondor and who clearly loves and values it for its own sake, and who is much more straightforward and honest about his claim—was a lot more palatable to Gondorians than Arvedui would have ever been. And it certainly didn’t turn out in the way that I think Pelendur and the Council might have feared.

@leschanceux sent: "keep safe. i would not like to hear that you were gone for good." ( aragorn & legolas! )
Tumblr media
Packing up his satchel for the journey back to his father's kingdom, Legolas gives pause at Aragorn's... unexpected words. Not because the Prince does not know his companion's heart, but because neither of them are over-prone to thinking on mortality. Not until recently, anyway...
Legolas half turns, regarding the Dúnedain over his shoulder. Aragorn is closer than he realized, close enough for Greenleaf to reach out and cup the curve of the man's cheek in his palm. "...I will not leave these lands until you do, Meleth." The Prince smiles in the way the makes his whole face soften, his thumb brushing the dimple hidden by Aragorn's facial scruff. "...on that, you have my vow."

she’s surprised to see another youthful face inside the tavern. the clientele is usually comprised of much older individuals, and those worn from war, labor or even from years in the sun. lexa’s CURIOSITY grows to the point it’s nearly impossible to avoid eye contact and at that point, the stranger approaches. wisps of smoke emerge from the bowl of her pipe, now set aside on the table. a brow is arched at the young woman’s words.  the warrior lets the coins pass between her fingers, studying the texture. “ is this your way of telling me to mind my business? ” there’s an inkling of a smirk on her face. she takes note of the girl’s neutral expression and how it doesn’t seem to waver. “ when you stick out like a sore thumb, you’re bound to turn heads. ” compared to the other patrons, the girl appears almost ghostly. just what is her story, exactly?

I have never once in my life heard anyone describe the Scouring of the Shire as "a thoughtful and nuanced take on fascism" please stop going on Twitter to talk about fandom things
#someone make me stop going in the for you tab its so bad for me#im sorry im so sorry but i gotta rant#1. its about how your actions away from home can have unexpected effects at home as well#2. op operated on the assumption that its actually only fascism if the hobbits themselves were doing it and not outsiders#because as everyone knows fascists never ever go to other countries that arent fascist and do fascism there#also its made extremely clear in the text that while it got out of control quite a lot of the problem was in fact hobbits#not all or even most of them but lotho sackville baggins wasnt bad because saruman made him be bad#he was bad and saruman was the avenue through which he chose to leverage his bad designs#3. while i also disagree with the following ban on humans in the shire and personally ignore it#a. it was against humans specifically not all non hobbits#b. aragorn enacted it himself not at the request of the hobbits so they can hardly be blamed for its content#c. i bet op doesnt have a problem with the ban on rohirrim and gondorians entering the druadan#(tho the residents DID request that so its not quite the same)#4. and you think if they had come back and the shire hadnt been touched by the war at all that would have been better?#that would have been good writing is that what you think? go choke on a ketchup packet#its not about facism at all and nobody except this idiot thinks it is#its about war and the way it changes everything even at home where it wasnt supposed to be

I deeply love all of the little echoes between the Silmarillion and LOTR, but this is one of my faves:
Last of all Húrin stood alone. Then he cast aside his shield, and wielded an axe two-handed; and it is sung that the axe smoked in the black blood of the troll-guard of Gothmog until it withered, and each time that he slew Húrin cried: ‘Aurë entuluva! Day shall come again!’
-Húrin at the Battle of Unnumbered Tears (C. 20, the Silmarillion)
"Hail, Lord of the Mark," said Éomer. "The dark night has passed, and day has come again."
-Éomer at the Battle of Helm's Deep (C. 6, Two Towers)
Naturally, I adore the fact that Éomer is the echo of Húrin, almost definitely the single most badass human of the entire First Age (and arguably of the first two ages!). What an honor for our horse boy! The echoing quote could easily have gone instead to Aragorn or an elf, both of whom are descendants of traditions that go all the way back to those First Age events where Húrin did his thing. But instead, the line went to the heir of a newer, younger people—a people who are, in many ways, more representative of the future of Middle Earth than the old, historical communities that have been in decline or fading for some time. So I love that choice of pairing. Húrin and Éomer feels less expected but more fitting to me.
Of course, the outcomes for these two are starkly different. Húrin is facing a crushing defeat and is about to be subjected to the wrath and punishment of Morgoth himself, which leaves him permanently destroyed emotionally. Éomer has just come out of an unexpected victory and is headed for another, at the end of which he can rebuild a happy life and even come to carry the royal title of Éomer Éadig, the Blessed. But I think that's the point of the echo.
Húrin did all that was possible (and arguably more!) for a human to do in the circumstances he faced, and in the end it wasn't enough. He never gets to enjoy a new morning. But that doesn’t mean he was wrong. Day does come again. It comes for Éomer. Because if there is one thing Tolkien wants us to know, it’s that you never give in to despair. You keep going and you try again, because eventually someone will find that sunrise and live to enjoy its warmth and brightness.

Summary ➳ When you and the rest decide to sneak up on an Orc camp, you receive an injury. You believe you can handle it yourself but Legolas thinks otherwise.
(A/n) ➳ I AM SO SORRY! Tumblr ended up deleting the request but I remember it but not all of it so forgive me if this isn’t what you wanted. If it isn’t then don’t hesitate to shoot a message or request again!! I also learned that apparently the Fellowship traveled at night and slept during the day. I seriously did not know that until today.

“There must be some other way.” Legolas uttered to Boromir. “You cannot believe that sending (Y/n) out to assassinate the Orcs is the best solution.”
“She won’t be alone, Aragorn will be there with them.” Boromir replied. “The two of them will attack from above while we attack from below.” He drew his sword, walking closer to the Orc that was alone. He was swift with it, moving behind the Orc and slitting its throat. “See? Wasn’t that hard.”
You took a deep breath as you aimed your bow, you kept your focus on the leader. You could see from the corner of your eye Aragon sneaking up on the other two. You knew he was waiting on your signal and he would wait however long, but you were all on a strict time.
Another deep breath and- “Hey!” You shouted out of instinct, Legolas’s arrow went through the Orc’s head, killing him but you brought attention to yourself.
You jumped down from the tree and quickly nocked, drew, aimed, and released at one Orc that was reaching for its weapon. You swerved past another arrow, more flying past your head until you took cover over a giant rock.
Before you could nock another arrow, an Orc came from behind, grabbing your arms to throw you against the ground. You rolled when he attempted to stab you, dodging more swings until you managed to kick his sword away.
He charged at you, taking your knife that was strapped to your leg, and used it against you. You used your bow to block a couple of slashes until he fell to the ground. Instead of standing, he got onto his knees and managed to stab you in your thigh.
You let out a scream but in return, you shot an arrow through his head. Your breathing staggered as your hand wrapped around the knife and slowly pulled it out and then covered it with terrible bandaging.
“(Y/n)!” Legolas popped up a few seconds later. “I heard you scream.”
“I believed I twisted my ankle.” You covered your wound with your as best as you could, smiling through the pain.
“Let me help you.” Legolas took your hand, helping you walk to the rest of the group. Luckily, your cloak covered your bleeding wound and your dark pants were enough to hide the blood seeping out. “We just have a couple more hours before daylight.”
Like Legolas said, Aragorn finally decided that it was time to rest. “We will set out when it becomes dark.” He told you all before he started to set up his makeshift bed.
Legolas looked over your ankle, looking closely and pressing against it, looking back at you for a reaction. “It doesn’t seem to be twisted, but it may be strained. You have been jumping a lot, and might have happened when your footing was incorrect.”
You could practically feel the sweat running down your forehead. “Does it seem bad?”
Legolas smiled, his usual smile that was beaming with kindness. “No, the pain should fade later. Are you in pain or hurt anywhere else?”
“No, no, thank you.” After Legolas joined Aragorn, chatting. It wasn’t long before it was just murmurs among the Fellowship. Sam and Frodo were cooking together, Gimli was most likely perched up against a tree sleeping, but you didn’t know about the rest.
You were farther into the forest, a needle and thread in your hand. You placed a thick piece of fabric in between your teeth and bit down, you used your other hand to keep the gash close together so you could stitch it.
You let out a strained cry as you attempted to stitch your wound yourself but it was difficult due to your vision blurring. You didn’t know how long you were out here, so focused on closing your wound that you didn’t hear branches breaking or leaves crunching.
“You’re hurt.” Legolas’s voice broke you out of your concentration. You could see the panic in his eyes, he kneeled by your side, taking the needle from you and moving your hand from your thigh. “And you’re doing it incorrectly. You’re hurting yourself more.”
He used his other hand to pull a container of water, and flushed out your wound. “How did you get this? And when?”
“Just a couple hours ago.”
“And you’ve been bleeding this entire time?” Legolas’s voice was filled to the brim with regret, like he was ashamed of himself. He carefully threaded the thread into your skin, making sure it wasn’t too tight or too loose.
You took out the cloth from your mouth. “Look Legolas, I’m still alive and well.” You tried to ease him. “I’ll be alright, I’m okay.”
“I should’ve known, you have been moving slower, as well as your reaction time.” He acknowledged. Once he finished stitching your wound, he poured water again to wash out the rest of the dried blood.
He helped you to your feet, throwing your arm over his shoulder and an arm around your waist. He moved at a slow pace back to camp, everyone was now asleep, save it for Aragorn who just watched you both silently.
He helped you lay down. “I’ll be fine.” You repeated yourself, it felt like the hundredth time.
Legolas shook his head. “Please, do not hide anything. You shouldn’t be silent about these kinds of things.”
As if waking up very early in the morning couldn’t be any better, Orcs have seemed to find you all. You had a feeling that they were stalking you all, waiting for the moment to attack. You used your bow instead of your sword, making sure none of the Orcs came close to the Hobbits.
An Orc charged at you. You dodged the first couple of swings but not the kick to the leg, making you kneel and it felt like the stitches broke.
You screamed as you used your arrow to stab it into the Orc’s shoulder. Legolas’s arrow came from behind and slew the bastard and Merry came to your side to help you stand.
“Run into the forest!” Boromir shouted, blocking the sword coming down at him. “Go! Quickly!”
Merry helped you speed through the forest. You suddenly felt sick, like you wanted to pass out. But it wasn’t long before the Orcs gave up the chase and Merry sat you against a tree.
“They’re bleeding!” Merry alerted the rest of the Fellowship.
Legolas dropped in front of you, pushing your hands away from the wound. “I need a needle and thread.” He said, more like demanded. “Or a cloth to stop the bleeding.”
Aragorn ripped a piece of his shirt and handed it to Legolas, he snatched it and was quick to tie it around your wound. “I’ll need some herbs, in case the wound becomes infected.” Sam shuffled through his bag. “Luckily you should be able to walk but not run.”
You swore under your breath. “It seems the Orcs are watching us at all times.” You looked up at Aragorn. “What do we do?” You asked him.
“There may be another camp nearby.” Aragorn replied. “Boromir, Legolas, we need to search.”
“Someone should stay and protect the Hobbits.”
“Gimli is here and (Y/n) still has the strength to use their bow.”
“But what if they need to retreat? What will happen then?” Legolas still pressed, wanting to remain by your side. “We cannot put the Hobbits at risk, especially the ringbearer.”
“Gimli will be here, just go with them.” You told him.
“I will not.”
Aragorn was too annoyed to even put up an argument anymore. “Let us go then.”
When they were out of sight, you pushed his shoulder slightly. “What was that?” You asked him, confused out of your mind.
“Someone must be here to protect the Hobbits-”
“I know that, it would’ve been fine. They are taking care of the camp, the Orcs won’t be nearby to bother us.” You once again tried to explain to him. “What is going on with you? Are you still feeling guilty?”
“No-”
“Doesn’t seem like that.” Your breathing hitched as you attempted to stand.
Legolas grabbed your warm to stop you. “You cannot be moving at the moment. Give yourself time to relax.”
“It’s just a small cut!”
“A cut that could’ve killed you.”
You huffed. “What is going on with you Legolas?”
“Becoming reckless is one thing but hiding a serious injury that could have killed you is another. It makes me worry, it makes me question if you have more injuries you’ve hidden.”
“Look, I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you about the wound. I didn’t think that it would mean so much for you.” You admitted.
“I worry, I worry every single day, every fight, during the night and during the daybreak. Will the morrow be the day where someone or something takes you from me?” His hand grazed over your wound. “I just want to know I’ve done everything and anything.”
“I’m sorry.” You apologized again.
“Just promise me, I do not care how small it is or how big, please do not hesitate to ask for help.”
You nodded. “I promise.”
