Northmoor has a bit of difficulty bcuz he's THE FIRST ONE which makes for an interesting time binding ANY object, but he's adventurous and hungry. Trench himself says he's averse to using OoP so I imagine he only bound the TV for research, and did not enjoy levitating outside of the novelty... And meanwhile Jesse picks it up with ease and has lots of fun zooming around :3 as for their magic/channeling power colors, Northmoor is deep hot pink because I think it matches his dusky purple tie and it just feels fitting for him. Trench is Hi-Vis Yellow because he's so cautious and careful, and Jesse is highlighter blue because Polaris c:

balthier (ffxii): big gender envy. i headcanon as bi and trans. perfect voice. perfect body. perfect everything. loads of trauma. he was kinda groomed to be perfect but he decided to leave the imperial world he was raised in to become an outlaw. we love to see it. 10/10 absolute king

fenris (da ii): again. big gender envy. i headcanon as trans too, but they’re canonically queer. perfect voice. perfect body. perfect everything. literally the same voice actor as balthier. loads of trauma. can rip a man’s heart out of his chest and i appreciate that skill.

ignis scientia (ffxv): he’s just lovely all around. he is the designated mom friend. he makes you feel loved and appreciated. he’s incredibly tough and super skilled at everything. he deserves the world. loads of trauma. suffers big loses but still believes in good. most definitely autistic. probably aroace too but also gladio is his husband and my blorbo-in-law

eivor wolfkissed (ac valhalla): i like strong muscly women I cannot change this about myself. i realize the word bimbo exists for women, but listen eivor is a himbo. literally so smart but also dumb as shit. really she is just impulsive and has loads of trauma to grapple with. canonically queer.

alloy (horizon zero dawn): again w/ the strong muscly women omg her muscles. assigned trauma at birth. literally doesn’t understand people and she’s probably aroace. also canonically an aries so...

billie lurke (dishonored): my favorite anti-hero in the series. talks to rats. of course loads of trauma but she’s being so brave about it. canonically queer. billie has never done anything wrong in her life i know this and i love her.

dimitri blaiddyd (fe3h): poor little meow meow who is also like 6 ft tall. canonically mentally ill and suffers from ptsd and parosmia. kinda loses it but has a good ‘redemption’ arc in the blue lions route. gets a lot of hate but i will defend him til i die.

jesse faden (control): loads of trauma but quick to adapt to weird situations probably b/c she’s got an entity living in her brain and most of the people in this game are obsessive compulsive to a degree including her so super relatable tbh!

Hey! I saw that you were accepting drabble requests for Control! I was wondering if you could write Dylan's arrival at central executive from his pov? Like what could've been going through his head, how he saw things and how people reacted to him?

Dylan Faden hadn’t been up here in a long time.

He hadn’t been up here since he was small. 

Now, taller and older and with experience of little beyond the walls of a cell, he was sick of life being coherent. Much better to relax into the Hiss, to let the sound in until the rest of his senses followed. Except that he had to talk. Had to stand up straight in front of the woman in the Research whites that scared him, his back stiff. 

Emily Pope. She had introduced herself. She had babbled, like she was afraid of him. She should be, but he felt the insult inherent in the fear, too. It wouldn’t do to let her know he just wanted to sleep. Real sleep. 

Dylan stood below the statue of the black pyramid, guns pointed at his back. “I’m giving myself up,” he repeated.

Emily Pope clutched her clipboard. “T-thank you for c-coming back. You’ll have to wait for J- the director.” 

“That’s too bad.” Dylan said the first thing that came to mind. “He’s dead.”

Emily struggled to compose herself. “Trench is dead. Jesse is the new director.” 

“The House chose her? The big chair stooped?” Half-remembered, dreamlike puppetry. The shadows of command like a crown of razors. He had known she was here by the piping of Polaris in his brain, but somehow he hadn’t thought she would be in charge. She was a prime candidate too, of course, but to walk right in and be crowned … 

Dylan started to let go. He didn’t want to think about the directorship. Part of him wanted to think about Jesse, to tell her … What had he wanted to tell her? The thunder song distorts you? Had that been it? 

Rangers showed themselves at his peripheral vision, creeping in with guns, letting him know they were there. Dylan sighed.  Emily seemed stunned, looking to the Rangers for a decision she alone could make. 

It would be so much easier not to do this. Suddenly exhausted, Dylan struggled to grasp both words and identity. “He has to tell her.” 

Has to tell her Polaris is using you. Anger stabbed in at himself. Polaris had abandoned him, and he wanted her to care, and he hated her. She hadn’t saved Dylan, so why would she save Jesse? He had to warn Jesse. He had to get revenge on Polaris. The distinction was meaningless. Self-interest and selflessness rolled up into one over-examined motive open on a lab table.

 It had gotten him out of his prison. That was what mattered. 

He had to tell her what he could to make sure she didn’t end up on either side of a cage.

 Burn the House down with us, sister. 

Emily regained her composure. Her voice was steadier than her gaze. She tapped the pen against the pad in nervous harmony. “I’ll allow you to stay here if you let us test you. You’re the only other person in this building who can resist the Hiss. That can help all of us.” 

“Typical Bureau.” He heard the noise — the Hiss, she called it? — buzz in his own voice. They’d put him back in a cell? He hated the idea but would endure it for the chance to tell Jesse what he knew. To set her free. “Fine.” Even as he said it, he started to drift back into the comfort of the sound. Better that than seeing himself let them escort him back. At least it isn’t Trench, that tyrant, and Casper, the traitor, looking at him. 

Still it was so inviting to leave, to ascend, to escape into the song and the sound, and so he bowed his head and tried against his own conflicted will to stay conscious as the rangers escorted him up the stairs, looking dully at the tables, the radios, the control point with a well of power he could sense dimly. His stomach rumbled. Last time he had been here, he had been a table high.

4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?

on the non-serious side of things, this:

Across the way, Arish catches Jesse’s attention over the sea of heads. He’s practically stage whispering trying to get her to look his way, and she gives him an odd look.

“N-S-C?” he mouths.

“What?” Jesse mouths back.

“NORTHMOOR,” he silently over-enunciates each syllable. “N-S-C? NORTHMOOR? SARCOPHAGUS CONTAINER?”

Jesse can’t help but crack a smile as she nods. Arish’s jaw drops open and his eyes widen.

“WHAT THE—”

“Jesse,” Emily says, and Jesse’s attention snaps to her.

because I can picture it so vividly and it makes me giggle like a nerd

on the serious side of things, I’d probably have to comb through it again to find specific bits I very much like, but this one is probably up there:

“I can’t just stop,” he says.

“The Hiss?” Jesse asks, voice still holding strong.

The Hiss? No.

“Being mad.”

“I’m not asking you to stop being mad,” Jesse answers, a laugh escaping instead of a sob.

Oh.

I like the pin-drop realization where it just. finally clicks. Dylan finally getting out of the logic-loop of assuming what people want from him and his perspective starting to shift.

7: Where did the title come from?

I picked it from the line Polars (Jesse-Polaris?) says in the climax, specifically because I just. Love what it insinuates, in the context of the fic-- the idea that we’re constantly growing, constantly moving forward, constantly healing, even when we feel we aren’t-- we’re always learning, even if it sometimes looks a bit different or we can’t see it, and even when it’s hard, or when we feel like it isn’t happening, it is-- an immutable promise we can lean on when we need to rest or pause or can’t see further than the five feet in front of us, knowing that even when it feels like disaster and a mess that it will be okay, and where we are right now will be okay. if. that makes sense sdkjfhskdjfh.

11: What do you like best about this fic?

that I managed to finish it I’m really happy with how it just. Came together. I feel like I was able to work a lot of the games themes in or just call back to them/various lines and moments from the game itself, and also make it fairly believable in terms of like. Characters and what might happen. I love writing hurt/comfort fic like this that involves looking at healing and the understanding that progress is messy but isn’t really something you can lose, even if the process seems non-linear. Idk that hopefully makes sense? I feel like it was equal parts therapy for the Fadens but also myself AKSJDHAKJSHDKAJSHD
