My (Skimbly's) strongest hcs for her are that misto and Vic are her kids, misto being older and Vic being younger.

At the same time, she's clearly a disciplinarian and gives me governness/nanny vibes, and I feel like she's usually the one who's given "trouble kids" to mind.2 in particular I think she took under her wing and buffed into shape would be jerrie and tumble

Found the very start of Gumbie Cat (skip to 4:41, because apparently Tumblr doesn’t play videos from timestamps. Tumblr pls.) when Misto thinks it’s his turn in a video with Lindsay Chambers as Mistoffelees on Broadway in the early-ish 1990s. Some interesting notes and thoughts on this very brief part, noting some differences from his performance as mute Zurich!Misto.

1. Misto’s little spins across the floor on his hands and knees is extremely adorable

2. His pose right as Munk starts singing is very dramatic, apropos of Mistoffelees, and is similar but different to his Zurich!Misto performance. I can definitely see the influence on Jacob Brent’s later performance as Misto, especially in the 1998 film.

3. Munk here isn’t as harsh toward him as Zurich!Munk is with Zurich!Misto; instead he just sort of shakes his head at him and reaches out his paw toward Misto as if to let him down gently “No, not your turn yet, Mistoffelees.” He does do a little step toward Munk as well before sinking down with disappointment, though he does look a little annoyed as well.

4. However, unlike Jacob!Misto, he doesn’t get embarrassed and cringe to oblivion when he realises it’s definitely not about him. Instead, he just sinks down into a kitten crawl and sadly and slowly crawls away, reminiscent of Zurich!Misto, which only serves to break my heart again.

I take issue with the way RTT is described in the various wiki entries I’ve seen for him, because they like to point out that the older cats merely tolerate him or are impatient with his activities.

A) no

B) really? No

C) evidence pls

but what he says at the start of Misto’s song is kind of telling, and I think it says something about who he is.

RTT has a reputation - he’s a cat that does what he wants, when he wants, which is - every cat tbh but he wants to feel special! he jumped in on the very very end of Jennyanydots’ number which is still rude, but he a) didn’t interrupt the song itself or the story and b) no one seems surprised or upset, they just go oh! it’s RTT being RTT. and he isn’t particularly kind to Grizabella; he’s kind of sarcastic in his interaction with her, but it’s not like he’s the only one to be dismissive of her.

During the Awefull Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles, he jumps in with the bagpipes at the end and Munkustrap is exasperated - but arguably less so than when Mungojerry and Rumpleteazer get their barks out of order or when the Great Rumpus Cat enters on the wrong side of the stage. This isn’t an RTT thing - this is an everyone around Munkustrap being a goof while he’s trying to hold it together thing lol.

RTT sings Old Deuteronomy with Munkustrap - they BOTH obvs have a tremendous amount of respect for Old Deut, but RTT is the one who specifically says the village is proud of him in his decline. And when Old Deut shows up, he gets fucking psyched - RTT is a cool kid but he also gets excited about stuff! He is also the last one to officially greet Old Deut; it’s framed in a way where they kind of stare each other down, which is especially notable because RTT is standing on the pipe to be tall (I also like standing on things to be tall). But Old Deut is obviously relaxed and smiling, and RTT’s got the biggest fucking grin when he bows. It gives me cheeky “you’re not the boss of me” vibes, but he is very much accepting of the fact that Old Deut’s in charge, and I don’t think he cares much either.

RTT is also consistently pictured near Old Deut, when he’s not on stage or skulking in the shadows; shaking hands with him, or resting a hand on his shoulder, or just kind of vibing near him. He’s the one who suggests a way to get Old Deut back, to boot, so - I just don’t really get the idea that he’s got a tremulous relationship with the others. He cares SO MUCH, SO SO MUCH. He’s just also REALLY COOL.

What this tells me is that RTT does have mutually respectful relationships with a lot of the older cats; he’s also especially close to Old Deut. The kittens love him because of who he appears to be, and he’s just as goofy as the other older cats but in his own distinct way. It also tells me that he does know when to be serious and he also knows how to make that clear to his peers.

I’m still ruminating on the ‘don’t scoff’ thing, but for the most part, am inclined to believe it’s about what he’s going to suggest. imo, the cats know Misto has magic; he uses it for Munkustrap and Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat, Cat of the Railway Train. It’s never been crazy, though - lifting the trunk or turning lights on is relatively small, compared to magicking an entire person back. So I think he’s saying ‘don’t scoff, I know Misto can do it’.

Which also stands in contrast to a trope I saw when poking at fanfiction - that Misto has magic and the other cats dislike or fear him for it. I never got that vibe! The cats don’t like Macavity much but it doesn’t seem to be because of his magic so much as it is because, you know, he likes to break laws lol. And I guess because of the kidnapping and stuff. They come together once a year to decide which cat is gonna reincarnate, Old Deut’s apparently telepathic, etc etc - I think the magic is just part and parcel of who they are as Jellicles and he’s got a little more than most. It was more of a “I know you can do a cartwheel, but can you really do a backflip?” kind of vibe. He is still cheeky and exuberant during the number - but it’s coming from a place of respect and belief in Misto’s abilities.

(or he’s just hoping really hard that it’ll work, but doesn’t want Misto to doubt himself - either way, his faith is justified or his faith is what it takes for Misto to believe in himself; it gets the job done.)

Which is funny because even Misto is like “uhh” at certain points while RTT is like NO YOU GOT THIS

Anyway this is, in part, why I think RTT is going to be the next Jellicle leader rather than Munkustrap

I'm thinking about more Royal AU Demestrap, if you don't mind.

OHHHHHH yessssss

Thinking about how Munkustrap and Demeter saw each other the first time when Munk and Tugger's forces stormed Macavity's castle to arrest him. They had to fight their way through, so Munk's armor-clad, disheveled, a little rugged looking and Demeter's mostly in good condition, maybe a little pallid and disheveled herself merely from the stress of everything; she hadn't been sleeping very well (who can when your castle is under siege?) and even though she has closed her heart to her lord husband Macavity there's still so much stress with the situation, both wondering "What will happen to him?" and "What will happen to me?"

She fully expects to be arrested or imprisoned when Macavity's younger brothers break into their chambers, after all she was part of the rebellion, even if she didn't wield a sword herself, but when she and Munk's eyes meet they're just....There's a lil something that's not so subtle there. She thinks he's hot as hell, even if there's a little anger in his eyes. It's an anger that comes from love, from disappointment, not from rage and hatred like she's used to seeing when Mac looks at other people. He looks strong and handsome and protective and kind despite the situation, like a knight, like a prince should, and it doesn't take longer than a second to realize that Macavity's father was right, Munkustrap should be the rightful heir.

Deme feels so much shame and regret and anger, at the situation, at Macavity, at herself, and expects to be thrown to the wolves so to speak after Tugger and Alonzo wrestle Macavity to his knees in front of her, but Munkustrap addresses her, informs her that if she comes willingly she will not be harmed, that she is expected to appear before the court as a witness to Macavity's treason, and the relief bleeds out of her. Her blood pressure's through the roof the entire time though, she's struggling to breathe, her eyes flitting between Macavity who makes empty threats and Munkustrap who stands stalwart and ignores them, and it's with a lot of effort that she manages to take Munk's outstretched, gauntleted hand and agree to come willingly.

And on Munk's side he's just....He'd stormed the castle with only his elder brother on his mind, determined to bring him home and to make him submit to justice for his crimes, but when he lays eyes on Deme he's immediately distracted, even if he doesn't want to admit it lol. He lets Alonzo and Tugger handle Macavity for the moment. He's heard a lot about Macavity's lady, but hearing and seeing are two different things, and clearly the rumors have been exaggerated somewhat (he's heard all sorts of things, good and bad, but mostly bad) because when he looks at her he doesn't see nearly the amount of cruelty or malice he does in his older brother, he doesn't see someone ready to burn the kingdom to the ground for selfish gain. He sees...well he sees a really beautiful woman who looks like she's going to throw up any second, and her eyes are filled with this kind of deep tension that makes his stomach flip.

Despite the fear she exudes there's an underlying strength, she's facing adversity head on, and that's commendable. He can't help but be kind to her, finds himself speaking softer than he really intends, given the situation. There was never a question about arresting her, his father had insisted she be granted clemency and monitored before the possibility of imprisonment, and Munk thanks god that Old Deut had decreed it so because he's not really sure he could throw this woman into a cell even if he wanted to. But there's not a lot of time to think about any of this; Everyone is exhausted, there are wounded beyond counting, and dead as well, and Macavity's long treasonous war campaign has just come to an end. So his brother and captain of the guard haul Macavity away in chains and Munkustrap, he decides, will set his focus on Demeter. Purely for a sense of duty, of course. (Definitely not just duty.)

Biggest Sweep: Cicero beat Oliver Thredson with 89%. I honestly expected this Oliver was never going past round one but he's so strange he deserved a mention. Closest Poll: Hajime and Komaeda TIED with Stu and Billy at 50% each Most Votes: Monoma vs Ryuji with 167 votes and I'm literally so mad about it like he didnt even just lose he lost everything Fewest Votes: Merlin Emrys vs Mr. Mistoffelees with 42 votes Biggest Personal Disappointment: Monoma should not have went home. It's on me because I should have put him against a more obscure character. He probably could have won against Anne Marie. But you know I try to match based on what makes sense to me and it was right to put Anne Marie next to Miss Piggy. I'm just sad to see such an iconic beloved character to me be voted out so early. and by literally such a huge margin. when i typed this it was 30% to 70%. at time of death it was 29%. i'm heartbroken right now.
