In nineteenth-century Edinburgh, the heinous deeds of Burke and Hare, who turned to murder to supply cadavers to anatomy schools, led to the passing of the Anatomy Act of 1832. As recently as 1998, the sculptor Anthony-Noel Kelly was jailed for stealing body parts from the Royal College of Surgeons in a case that cast a spotlight on the ethics of art and the legal status of human remains donated to medical science. And in 2005, an American medical tissue company was closed down after its president was convicted of illegally harvesting body parts and selling them on to medical organisations.

What are the last words of some of the most famous serial slayers? The last words on this list come from the mouths of some of the most heinous, dangerous people in human history.

James French

“Hey, fellas! How about this for a headline for tomorrow’s paper? ‘French Fries.‘” (August 10, 1966)

James French has the distinction of being the last person to be executed in Oklahoma, via electric chair

Carl Panzram

“Hurry up, you Hoosier bastard. I could kill 10 men while you’re fooling around.” (September 5, 1930)

Peter Kurten

“Tell me. After my head has been chopped off, will I still be able to hear, at least for a moment, the sound of my own blood gushing from the stump of my neck? That would be a pleasure to end all pleasures.” (July 2, 1931)

Peter Kurten, AKA “The Vampire of Dusseldorf,” drank the blood of at least one person.

John Wayne Gacy

Kiss My Ass (May 10, 1994)

Thomas J. Grasso

“I did not get my Spaghetti O’s. I got spaghetti. I want the press to know this.” (March 20, 1995)

Tom Ketchum

Jeffery Dahmer

Dr. H.H. Holmes was one of the first American serial killers.

Albert Fish

“I don’t even know why I’m here.” (January 16, 1936)

In the 1920s, Albert Fish claimed that he had slain at least 100 children.

Ted Bundy

“I’d like you to give my love to my family and friends.” (January 24, 1989)

The exact number of women Ted Bundy offed or hurt in the 1970s is unknown, but some say the number is somewhere in the 100s.

Marcel Petiot

“Gentleman, I have one last piece of advice: Look away. This will not be pretty to see.” (May 25, 1946)

Petiot was a French doctor who was only found out when the remains of 23 people were found in his Parisian home during WW2.

Steven Timothy Judy

“I don’t hold any grudges. This is my doing. Sorry it happened.” (March 9, 1981)

Steven Judy slayed a woman and her three children in 1979.

William Bonin

“I would suggest that when a person has a thought of doing anything serious against the law, that before they did that they should go to a quiet place and think about it seriously.” (February 23, 1996)

William Bonin’s habit of dumping cadavers near freeways earned him the nickname Freeway Killer.

Amelia Dyer “I have nothing to say.” (June 10, 1896)

Dyer is believed to have slain 400 children during a 20-year period in Victorian England.

Peter Manuel “Turn up the radio and I’ll go quietly.” (July 11, 1958)

Manuel was an American-born Scottish man who is believed to have slain from nine to 18 people during the 1950s.

Francis Crowley “You sons of bitches. Give love to Mother.” (January 21, 1932)

Francis Crowley went on a three-month spree that ended when he was sent to the electric chair.

Angel Maturino Resendiz “I want to ask if it is in your heart to forgive me. You don’t have to. I know I allowed the Devil to rule my life. I just ask you to forgive me and ask the Lord to forgive me for allowing the devil to deceive me. I thank God for having patience in me. I don’t deserve to cause you pain. You do not deserve this. I deserve what I am getting.” (June 27, 2006)

Reséndiz left people’s cadavers near railroad tracks.

Fritz Haarmann “I repent, but I do not fear death.” (April 15, 1925)

Fritz Haarmann of Germany, active in the years following WWI, became known as the Vampire of Hanover because he would bite through people’s throats.

Ned Kelly “Such is life.” (November 11, 1880)

Ned Kelly was often considered a folk hero in Australia.

Donald Henry Gaskins “I’ll let my lawyers talk for me. I’m ready to go.” (September 6, 1991)

Donald Henry Gaskins was known as the Meanest Man in America for slaying at least 100 people, most of them hitchhikers, from the 1950s to the 1980s.

Israel Keyes “Okay, talk is over, words are placid and weak. Back it with action or it all comes off cheap. Watch close while I work now, feel the electric shock of my touch, open your trembling flower, or your petals I’ll crush.” (December 2, 2012)

Israel Keyes took his own life; the words are from his final note.

John George Haigh In a letter to his girlfriend, Barbara: “It is difficult to say farewell under these circumstances, but you will understand that you will always be in my thoughts. You know I have been proud of our association: it has always been an honourable one. I shall remember your great kindness and devotion. Now I must leave you.” (August 10, 1949)

In the 1940s, John George Haigh dissolved six women’s cadavers in acid.

Kenneth McDuff “I am ready to be released. Release me.” (November 17, 1998)

After his sentence was commuted in 1989, Kenneth McDuff killed again before being detained in 1992.

Carroll Cole “It’s all right.” (December 6, 1985)

Carroll Cole possibly committed acts of cannibalism

Raymond Fernandez and Martha Beck “I wanna shout it out; I love Martha! What do the public know about love?” – Raymond Fernandez (March 8, 1951)

“My story is a love story. But only those tortured by love can know what I mean […] Imprisonment in the Death House has only strengthened my feeling for Raymond….” – Martha Beck (March 8, 1951)

In the 1940s, Fernandez and Beck would place personal ads in newspapers with the intent of taking money from the women who replied.

Aileen Wuornos “I’d just like to say I’m sailing with the rock, and I’ll be back like Independence Day, with Jesus, June 6th. Like the movie, big mother ship and all. I’ll be back.” (October 9, 2002)

From 1989 to 1990, Aileen Wuornos terminated seven men, with the excuse that each of them tried to rape her.

James Allen Red Dog “I’m going home, babe.” (October 9, 2002)

James Allen Red Dog had been connected to at least five murders

Myra Hindley According to the Catholic priest who gave Hindley last rites, “The last conversation she had before she died concerned her mother. She just expressed concern for her mother – but I will not say exactly what she said.” (November 15, 2002)

Hindley, with her lover Ian Brady, shocked 1960s England when they killed five children.

Earle Nelson “I am innocent. I stand innocent before God and man. I forgive those who have wronged me and ask forgiveness of those I have injured. God have mercy!” (January 13, 1928)

During a two-year period in the mid-1920s, Earle Nelson felled 22 women, most of whom were landladies he approached about rooms they wanted to rent.

Sean Flanagan “I love you.”

Sean Flanagan terminated two gay men in Nevada, claiming he was doing “good for… society.” (June 23, 1989)

okay so this is not rlly fleshed out but,, fantasy au. and jack is dead.

there's no point in refuting it. he's dead, leaving behind a grieving fiance- david- who nearly goes mad as the truth starts to settle in: he'll never again hold jack's hand, or kiss jack's cheek, or lie with him in the dead of night.

david would do anything to bring him back. so he does.

he follows the stories he's heard in taverns and inns, about a woman who understands dark magic. he searches for weeks. months, even. and every day, he justifies this decision: jack died too young, too early, too tragically, and if david could just bring him back then everything would be okay again, right? they could be happy again, right?

eventually he finds her. katherine pulitzer is the name; the estranged daughter of a nobleman, who left on her own accord as a young woman and took up spellwork. david pays her, gives her all he has. he's desperate. he wants him back.

and he gets him, but it's not... him. this is someone different. he looks like jack. talks like jack. he smiles, laughs, has jack's mannerisms, but he's not as vibrant. he doesn't eat. doesn't sleep. he doesn't have the same warmth to him as he once does.

blah blah david adjusting to jack being dead and jack becoming more and more insistent on the fact that he's real, he's alive, he's not a freak until it consumes him. until it devours him from the inside out and all that's left is an animal- something dangerous, something desperate. something david has to get rid of.

does this make sense? no? okay! good. moving on:

what? a straight boy jack fic? you bet!

okay we all know the traditional latino family. jack is raised to be a good boy and find a good girl and have a big family to provide for. have a bunch of kids, take care of mom and dad, pass along the generational heritage.

it's been hammered into his skull since he was a child that he needs to take care of the family, so imagine his surprise when he becomes an orphan at 15, with no family to his name and decades of generational trauma resting on his shoulders.

after a year in the foster system, he's adopted by medda, and he settles back into life a little easier after that- but everything hits when he goes off to college, and this is when he realizes that maybe it's not normal to feel so awkward in the locker rooms after soccer practice. maybe other guys don't have dreams about dating their friends or wonder what it would be like to kiss a boy.

and it terrifies him.

it terrifies him, because the smart poli sci pre-law boy across the hall is gorgeous, but jack doesn't know how to talk to him. he has a feeling that the guy knows what he thinks, though; this guy- david- flirts shamelessly. he's comfortable in his own skin. he's open enough to try. jack can't say the same.

david likes jack, and that's a fact- but jack prays that david will realize that he's out of jack's league. it hurts more than anything else; jack doesn't want to be the "sum of his desires," he just wants to ignore this part of him and focus on finding a pretty girl to marry like Mama and Papa always said. he can't do that when david keeps running around his mind.

it all comes to a head when david finally asks jack out; jack runs away, because he can't handle it, he can't say no because he doesn't want to say no but he has to say no because he can't like a boy.

but jack says yes the next day.

he says yes, and he and davey start dating, and dating leads to making out against jack's dorm room door and that leads to jack jumping head first into a relationship with all the impulsiveness he's ever had following him. it goes from jack not wanting to date davey to only focusing on davey; it gets obsessive and toxic and terrifying but he loves it, this taste of danger he's never had before.

and davey notices eventually, and davey calls it off, davey suggests they take a break- he knows that Jack needs to keep his cool and find out who he is before being so deep into this.

does he listen? no. do they still fuck around? yes.

just,, jack being so terrified of a relationship with davey, but immediately becoming hyperfixated on it to the point of no return, and as much as davey wants to reign it in, he can't.

yeah !! they work it out eventually but give them some obsessive toxic finding-our-footing time !! whooooo

A necromage and a graverobber need to hunt down a magic-resistant zombie they accidentally set loose to avoid having their crimes discovered.

Police issue update in 1992 disappearance of Kenley Matheson

Police in Nova Scotia have conducted a site visit at a location on Melanson Mountain in relation to the 1992 disappearance of Acadia University student Kenley Matheson.

The Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit made the update to the case public on Friday after a search of Melanson Mountain. The Major Crime Unit was joined by:

the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office

St. Thomas University’s Anthropology Department

Acadia University’s Earth and Environmental Science Department

“Based on the information obtained, the RCMP and our partners are making plans with regard to the best and most effective way to process the site both thoroughly, and safely,” investigators said in a statement.

Investigators say a September 2022 plea for information from the public did not result in any new information coming forward.

But on May 29, 2023, investigators received a call from a journalist hoping to schedule a meeting regarding the investigation. Police say investigators learned the journalist had taken part in a search on May 23 and 24 on Melanson Mountain. According to the journalist, a cadaver dog was brought in to assist the search.

“The dog indicated an area of interest,” RCMP said in a statement, “however, no human remains were located.”

On June 13, investigators met with the cadaver dog team and visited the site on Melanson Mountain. Officers say the area is on “very steep terrain” and safety precautions would be required for any search or excavation efforts.

On June 22, the owner of the property officially permitted the RCMP and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office to conduct a search on the property.

Police say more details will be released to the public “once the site processing has occurred.”

KENLEY’S DISAPPEARANCE

He was last seen on Sept. 21, 1992, walking on Main Street in Wolfville, N.S. A police description of Matheson at the time indicated he was wearing jeans, a purple t-shirt and a baseball cap at the time of his disappearance. Police say he was also carrying a red and black backpack.

Since then, loved ones have been unable to make contact with Matheson. His bank account has remained untouched.

Matheson’s case was added to the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Reward for Major Unsolved Crimes Program in 2012, offering up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for his disappearance.

Five years later, in 2017, police released an age progression sketch of what Matheson may look like in present day.

‘MISSING KENLEY’

Matheson’s disappearance was featured in the 2022 docuseries “Missing Kenley,” created by filmmaker Ron Lamothe.

In October 2022, Lamothe reflected on his journey of over 10 years creating the television program about Matheson’s disappearance.

"It's our belief that Kenley's remains can be returned to his parents in Cape Breton because we believe we know where his remains are," said Lamothe. "So, that would be one of the next steps moving forward is to locate them."
