Finally designed the entire CadMac family! I had to divide the full image for it to fit decently (full size here) so that’s annoying but look! Family! 

Parents: 

Cadence & Big Macintosh - eloped at eighteen, settled down in a woodsy suburb and built a cozy farm/house for themselves, Cadence teaches music to all the children in the town and Big Mac does his farming, as well as helping Apple Bloom and AJ manage the finances for Sweet Apple Acres. They’re in their early thirties here.

I gave ‘em different manestyles - Big Mac looks more relaxed, he doesn’t spend all his time working since he has a wonderful wife and three great kids to pay attention to, Cadence has a shorter, curly mane (she likes to play with how she styles her mane, this one’s her default look) and looks like a cross between an glamourous movie star and a PTA mom.

Children (L-R): 

Honeycrisp Blossom: twelve years old, oldest child of the family, an absolute sweetheart who loves teaching and has a heart of gold.

Cortland: eight years old (actually ten years old), he’s Thorax in disguise, he was adopted after being abandoned in a failed feeding mission and left to die, instead Cadence found Thorax in her garden and the two nursed him back to health and adopted him, he permanently takes a new name and form to match his parents, who keep him well fed with love and happy. Cortland’s still trying to figure out what he wants to be, knowing he won’t naturally get a cutie mark.

Ambrosia: four years old, the baby of the family, sweet and more than a bit spoiled, has been competing in pageants since she discovered what they were, loves attention and performing.

These prompts made me think of the idea of Sunset and Twilight babysitting Honey at their apartment while CadMac are on a work trip and Honey and Sunset impulse buy a trampoline that Twilight insists they don’t need and then when they come back from buying ice cream they see Twilight on the trampoline

Why don’t you like Cadence x Big Mac?

I never said I don’t like Cadence x Big Mac, just that its very okay. Cadence is generally a very flexible person in terms of romance, so if she wasn’t with Shining Armor for some reason, it makes sense that she could be shipped with virtually anyone. Same thing with Big Mac, with no dedicated ship, basically anyone works.

So you get two characters who generally have very little personality and say they’re good together, it’s hard for me to feel anything because what we do know of them is like “Ah, yes, of course, it’s not hard to make this work because they don’t really do anything”

Really, the hardest part of CadMac for me is the same issues that ran into later TwiMac shipping. The royal aspect of the Princess means that the nature of Big Mac being a dedicated farmer makes the two of them have very little time for each other, very little overlap in personalities, and its just hard to see them having even met at all.

That, and most of the time when anyone needs Cadence to be single, they turn Shining Armor into an asshole or a douchebag, which genuinely just breaks his character because that’s not who he is, and it really rubs me the wrong way to see him depicted like that.

Either way, its an okay ship, but nothing that makes me go “OH WOW now THERE’S a ship!!”

Both have nightmares about living in the other's respective areas - Rarity becomes a comedically redneck hillbilly with no style and AJ becomes the most froufrou society obsessed snob. Then they see each other post panic and realize that was stupid and compromise and buy a place in the suburbs near CadMac and Honey who do the same so Cadence can reach her job everyone wins CadMac have more age appropriate babysitters for Honey, Rarity can reach the city, AJ can farm and they're near family.

Um okay, like I need this like the burning intensity of a thousand suns! OMG I’m totally going to draw all of this because I’m literally in love!

More reverse au stuff I’ve been working on. I drew the Pinkie/Spike pic before I decide to swap Spike for Gummy, so don’t take it as canon.

Even moore facts:

-Bigmac and Cadence are a happily married couple here. Bigmac is the prince of the Crystal Empire while Cadence is the captain of the Crystal Guard. and lemme tell you there’s nothing more awesome than captain cadence

-look I know I said appledash was a canon couple in this au but RARIJACK. but seriously I just needed to do it, and i already said rares and aj made out previously so yeah

-Working around with the concept of Rarity wanting to become a guard. She’s even trained by Cadence. And Rares is lowkey gay for her because Cadence is just SO stunning and pretty

-Alicorn princess Pinkie?? I still gotta get used to her design because it’s weird as hell but lol

-Some EQG designs made for the funsies. Rarity, Rainbow and Pinkie are my faves. Twilight looks like scitwi lol
