1877 Henri Gervex (French, 1852-1929), Cafe Scene in Paris, detail.
Gaslight illuminates this scene in a Paris Cafe, which includes the artist himself lighting a cigarette.
Details
Cafes provided an important meeting place for artists, writers, and intellectuals in the nineteenth-century city. News, gossip, and ideas were shared as drinks were poured and pipes, cigars, and cigarettes were smoked. Here the artist painted a group portrait of some of his friends in their neighborhood cafe; he represents himself as the man in the center lighting his pipe. (x)

Snippet #1
“Oops, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to spill your coffee Mist-…” the hero trailed off, his eyes locking with a familiar face. There stood the villain, frozen in place. “What are you doing here?” The hero asked, bringing back his voice that was abruptly cut off midway.
“I could ask the same. This is my area, so what are you doing here?” The villain threw back. The barista behind the counter looked between them. The hero sensed it, and was glad that the villain wore a mask all the time so no one would be able to recognize him.
The hero quickly apologized to the barista, ignoring the villain’s eyes on him. He picked up some tissues and cleaning the floor. The drink had only spilled a little, so it didn’t take long to wipe it. He then grabbed the villain by his arm, and took him outside the cafe. The villain followed him with both of his eyebrows shot up.
“Since when was this your area? And, anyway it doesn’t matter. You shouldn’t be roaming around in a place like a cafe, you can get caught. You don’t want that, do you?” The hero questioned, looking around. His lips pressed together in a firm line.
“Now, why would you care if I get caught, hmm?” The villain shot back, suddenly appearing smug. He carefully pushed the hero backwards to the wall. “Unless, of course, you fear that you’ll miss me if they take me away.” He murmured, inching his face slowly near the hero’s.
The hero gave a grin, “Exactly, I’d miss you too much if they take you away from me. I would miss your face, your lips, your…” His eyes tracked down, making the villain widen his eyes and face, flush.

The streets would smell again of oil and orange blossoms, in the evening there would be light, people would sit and chat in outdoor cafés, and he would drink real coffee to the sound of guitars.

9 months have passed since #What If ToA RotT came into being and here are our achievements so far!
Hi beloved and faithful fandom! :)
Sooo it’s been a year since the public disgrace that was the Rise of the Titans movie. And it’s been roughly 9 months since I pitched the idea of rewriting & redrawing the first two scenes and giving the fandom a better outlook on a possible franchise ending than what we got...!
Since then, this super awesome team that consists of @nikibogwater @guardianofideas @prismarts @e7y1 @capsulect @the-fandom-hopping-mage @malleepp @tenebrius-excellium @livmadart @squabasaurus @bluespiritslight @honeyxmonkey @noperopesaredope @sopafa (and @i-am-gun-robot as honorable mention) has worked really hard on writing and visualizing the two scenes that can be found in Reddie’s fix-it fic.
It needs to be mentioned that life happened. A lot of us have been struggling with mental and physical health issues. Naturally, we have also prioritized our education, our income, and our families & friends over this. This was meant to be a fandom project without a certain time limit, so that we wouldn’t feel too pressured to perform. More than anything, we wanted and want this to be fun for the contributors. That’s the reason why we’re still kinda not done lol.
However, we have made awesome progress!, as follows:
We wrote 2 scripts, one for the Prologue scene and one for the Café scene that gets our gang reunited after Wizards
We are almost done with the Prologue art, everything looks amazing, and so we have made our first attempt at producing a video clip
We have full visual backgrounds for the Café scene! Even better: They’re in 3D!
In conclusion, the things that are still a work in progress are:
rest of the Prologue art
characters of the Café scene
music & sounds & editing it all together!
I have to thank the team at this point for investing into this and for sticking around with passion even after a year has passed since Tales of Arcadia ended officially. It still feels incomplete and I think we can all look forward to a clip that gives it a much better feel. Much love to you all and to our awesome followers who are also sticking around and wanting this to be worthwhile!!!
Give us a shoutout in the comments if you’re still excited!!!
Cheers
Reddie

The Colorful Houses Of Balat
Tumblr media
The colourful houses of Balat are mostly over 50-years-old, & in some cases up to 200-years-old. These historic wooden homes are amongst the most photographed buildings in the city, & many of these streets now feature cafés & restaurants.
