Cafe Chat - A New Year 2024
Welcome … there’s a chill in the air, despite the usual sunny and warm Florida temperatures. It’s a nice change. Sumatra coffee is brewing, find a mug for a cup. Hot tea and herbal tea is steaming too. I’m having a cappuccino. The photo on the left shows a cup I enjoyed many times on board at Cafe Baci. I’m sure we’ve all had our fill of Christmas cookies. I know I have. It was a whirlwind…

🥐𝗠𝗢𝗢𝗗𝗕𝗢𝗔𝗥𝗗 & 𝗦𝗡𝗜𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗧🥐 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲 - 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆 We sat at the local café in my neighborhood. Sipping on overpriced coffee and nibbling on equally expensive croissants. The sweet, buttery aroma of the croissants mixed with the rich, earthy scent of the coffee created a tantalizing symphony for our senses. “This coffee is pretty tasty. Only cost me an arm and a leg,” I said, savoring each sip. “I know, right? And these croissants? Heaven in pastry form,” Ardit said, dusting off crumbs from his lips. “Wow,” I said, “tone it down, dude.” “What?” Ardit laughed. “Heaven in pastry form,” I snickered. “Really?” “When you’re as hungry as we are, yes.” He said, “It was a long car ride.” “We still have a long journey ahead of us,” I reminded him. “We have to go to the Faerie Realm.” “I know,” Ardit said, setting down his cup. “But we have magic on our side.” He closed his eyes and held out his hand, conjuring a small, sparkling orb of light. “Show-off.” “Hey, I have to keep my skills sharp,” Ardit said, shrugging. The café buzzed with chatter and clinking of silverware, but Ardit and I sat in our own little world, the weight of our journey temporarily forgotten. As we finished the pastries and drained the last drops of our coffee, the spell of the café broke. Reality set in and the weight of our journey returned. “Ready?” I asked, standing up and shouldering my backpack. “As ready as I’ll ever be,” Ardit said, joining me. We stepped out of the café and into the unknown, magic and adventure waiting for us on our journey to the Faerie Realm. 🥐🥐🥐 #authorsaremyrockstars #bookishglee #wordsmithsunited #creativewriters #authorscorner #authorsrock #authorsoninstagram #pastrylover #yawriter #croissantday #writingismypassion #bookstagrameuse #bookishallure #yafantasy #writersflare #nationalcroissantday #writersaroundtheworld #yafantasy #fantasybooks #croissantday #magic #faerierealm #bookstagram #pastrylove #coffeetime #cafechat #adventureawaits #booklover #booknerd #readingcommunity (at Naperville, Illinois) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoEIqPBLkfZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#catcafe #cafechat #cafefelinmalangueauxchats #felinecafe #caturday #cats #malangueauxchats #chatstagram #catsofinstagram #cafequebec #vieuxquebec #feline #mignon #cute #chatmignon #cutecat (à Café Félin Ma Langue Aux Chats Quebec Cat Cafe) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFVGiKonqZw/?igshid=1f8cj1vr6tv45

Impromptu Cafe Chat
Heya~
Bit of an impromptu cafe chat bc I had to race a friend somewhere and stopped by this lovely little coffee shop on the way back!
Tumblr media
The cafe in question is a small place called the B+C Lab Cafe, located in Kelvin Grove. I ordered a $6 pour-over Ethiopian and sat overlooking the midday traffic in this beautiful upstairs little seating area. It was all exposed concrete and had a lovely aesthetic to it, plus the cafe’s music selection was on point (I really believe music and music selection completely changes the experience of enjoying a coffee).
The Ethiopian in question was actually very nice. It was lovely and fruity, with some notes of citrus and almost a kind of sherbert-y flavor noticeable throughout the cup. As it cooled, the sweetness parted to make way for some added acidity, and notes of darker, almost wine-like fruitiness coming out which was a joy to drink.
I really did enjoy my time at this cafe, even though I did feel a bit underdressed in my jeans and oversized pajama top, complete with bed-head and no bra because of how fast I had to race out of the house this morning. This bitch looked done af.
Thanks for reading! The next post will be coming soon and will be about my personal philosophy regarding coffee and cafes in general. Thank you all~~

Cafe Chat: Nami Nguyen.
Tumblr media
Welcome to the inaugural #cafechat for Northbourne Greene! We love our creative friends so we thought what better way to show you who inspires us by getting out to some of our favourite local cafes and having a chat. We hope you enjoy it...here is our mate Nami Nguyen.
Sitting in a Tom Ford suit and looking sharp you would never think the sentence ‘I’m fanging for a coffee’ would come out of the mouth of someone wearing said suit (FYI - as Urban dictionary explains: Fanging is to desire something greatly; to need badly). And this, this is what makes Namha (Nami) Nguyen who he is. What people don’t know is that this serious looking man doesn’t take himself too seriously. He is super laid back, funny, and personable. His charming attitude is instantly what engages and makes you feel comfortable. Five minutes into us sitting down and he suddenly says ‘I’m an actually an introvert’ can this really be what I’m hearing?
Tumblr media
We sit down at St Ali in South Melbourne and Nami orders a soy latte. We start looking through the menu and he’s wondering what to get as he is lactose intolerant. I suggest a few things and then realise my suggestions all include lactose, I basically stop giving suggestions and start hoping I don’t kill him from a lactose induced meal. For as long as I’ve known this suit wearing, tattoo loving dude I have always seen him as a joker, always having fun and down to party (the amount of times we’ve had a few too many at an event is beyond me).
Nami attributes his ‘chilled out’ approach to life on his childhood growing up in Brisbane ‘everyone in Brisbane is relaxed, there is a real emphasis on work life balance and people really do relax. I work hard but I’m down to earth and realistic - if I need to take some time, then I will’ It’s this attitude that has got Nami through a year that almost destroyed him ‘It all happened in the space of a year, everything was great and then suddenly everything changed. I really had to evaluate what was making me happy and what wasn’t. Overcoming all these challenges really shows you that things do get better and it’s only for that split second when everything is fucked that it hurts. I really felt an awakening in me and it’s changed my life for the better’ Nami is a big believer in the art of being alone ‘to clear the mind there is nothing better then taking some me time, just to be alone and be comfortable takes time but it’s a skill that everyone should master’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Growing up, skateboarding and hanging with his mates sums up the extent of Nami’s school days, he never was the academic type and at some point his parents realised that he was never gonna be the typical Asian working in finance or physics. He had a desire to do what made him happy - what that was was still unknown, all he knew was that as long as he felt happy, then he was fine. Growing up Nami and his brother were raised in part by his grandparents as his parents were working all hours to provide for their family. Nami and his brother spent at lot of time watching their Grandpa make suits and tailor garments from his house ‘this was a massive inspiration to me, my grandpa would listen to 60’s and 70’s funk music while he was making clothes, he was a very popular tailor around the area’.
Nami’s fashion sense always set him apart from others ‘people would always stare or say the odd comment but it didn’t phase me’. At the age of 17 that he purchased his first suit “I had no idea what I was doing, I was young, the idea of suiting and tailoring excited me but it was a new concept to me’. This experience then evolved into a passion for retail and suiting commerce. It wasn’t until a few years later the Nami decided to buy an expensive branded suit and this experience changed his life ‘suiting is a powerful, personal thing, you’re investing a lot of money to feel powerful, or look good or to boost your confidence, that experience I had was none of that - I spent close to $4,000 on a ill fitting suit that was nowhere near right for me, that experience shaped how I wanted to approach styling and servicing my customers. I want the guy buying a suit off me to know that it fits, it looks good and is worth the money, I never wanted to give a customer that feeling that I had’.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is what lead Nami and his Brother (who is his business partner) to start Grandpa Artillery. ‘we were sitting for dinner at Bhuddakan in NY, racking our brains about what to call our start-up and we kept joking about how Grandpa used to wear things and make clothes and it just clicked and felt natural. It is in someway a reminder to us both everyday how much he shaped our lives and a way for us to give back to our Grandparents’ Grandpa Artillery explains Nami ‘is a ode to our Grandpa, but the brand at it’s core is a reflection of my brother and I, a combination of classic tailoring and iconoclastic styling’.
Nami may be covered in tattoos but this is what makes him so interesting - he is heavily influenced by 30’s and 40’s style, his favourite genre of music is Jazz Hop and he has a strong fascination with Italy (when he was growing up he even begged his parents to give him an Italian name). All of these things is what combines to make Grandpa Artillery that brand it is and will become. ‘knowing that I subconsciously draw inspiration to my way of dressing from my Grandpa is what makes Grandpa Artillery exciting for us’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With his sense of ‘confident, not cocky’ approach Nami brings what he has learnt in years of suit retail and tailoring to his brand and his everyday. ‘Confidence is what makes a good outfit, really knowing who you are. Melbourne is great for that, it really let’s you explore yourself. When I moved here it felt like home, it made sense and it’s so inspiring to see people wearing what they want and being confident in their choices because they know who they are’. And with that Nami changes into a pair of Vans Sneakers, hops into his Jeep, the Jazz Hop music starts and he’s off.
FYI - for those wondering Nami did find a breakfast option and no lactose related injuries occurred.

Many thanks to Nami and St Ali.

Cafe Chats or Backcatablogging Phase 2
Cafe Chats or Backcatablogging Phase 2
I made a decision over the past couple of weeks to focus more on my writing as I feel like a bit of evolution is happening both in my words and with how sharing these words has transformed my life. One of these transformations has been the first set of friends I have made in the Go Dog Go Cafe. This week, I begin a new periodic article that revisits those who have been BC’d (BackCatablogge’d)…

Cafe Chat - Hot Temps
Welcome … grab a cup of coffee, iced or hot herbal tea . I’m having a cappuccino. The photo on the left shows one I enjoyed many times on a cruise at Cafe Baci. The last ten days have been great. My daughter, Lori, and her friend, Rene, visited from South Carolina. It’s always wonderful to see and spend time with family. They needed a mid-summer vacation of lounging on the beach. Our plans…

Café Chats 5/20: Welcome to the Café
Café Chats 5/20: Welcome to the Café
The past few weeks have wrapped me up in reinvention and had me contemplating balance, meaning, and health. I do not want to get ahead of my Week in Review, but do want to talk for a bit about the value of community for writers. Recently, I joined three other writers here in Singapore to reboot a dormant poetry group, The Twilight Poets. The meetings have been energizing for me, a chance to meet…
