Season 1, Episode 5 ─ a kiss worth remembering

8:17 pm, the same day

You and scaramouche park outside an expensive looking cafe, immediately you notice the lack of cars around, or lack of people in general, but before you could make a comment scaramouche already went outside to open the door for you, smiling as you thanked him he only nodded in acknowledgement before starting to make his way to the cafe.

"That's weird, there's not a lot of people around.."

"Yeah, I rented the whole place out for us."

"What? why??"

"Well I didn't want anyone to bother us, plus having paparazzis around for the first date isn't ideal now, is it?"

You could only shut your mouth as you felt a smile tug on your lips, he opened the door for you before he took you to one of the booths, soon enough a waiter took your order.

"I'll have a [your dessert and drink of choice]"

"I'll have a slice of your blueberry cheesecake and a caffè americano."

You giggled at how ironic his order is, now that you look at it, his hair kinda looks like a blueberry.

"What's so funny?"

"Nothing, just kinda ironic that you ordered a blueberry cheesecake when you kinda look like one."

"Oh yeah?, well you look like a blueberry too."

Before you could retaliate the waiter was already placing the desserts on your desk, however the indigo haired man sitting in front of you wanted to say something else, 'you remind me of a blueberry since they're my favorite..' , however he couldn't find the strength to say those words out loud.

Once the both of you were finished eating he decided to bring you somewhere else, and in a matter of minutes you were parked near a dark and secluded playground, stepping out of his car you excitedly ran over to the swings.

"Come here Scaramouche! Push me."

"You know you can call me a nickname, right? Scara's a bit too long."

"Oh, then what would you want me to call you?"

"Can i tell you something?"

"Sure.. Go ahead."

He started to tell you about his real name, kunikuzushi, his strict mother who wanted him to take over her company, he told you about the betrayals that he experienced, though it was a bit shocking to have him open up, you were glad he felt comfortable enough with you to do so, little did you know that the feeling was mutual.

He didn't quite know why he was telling you this, there were members from his band that he'd known for several years yet they don't know any of this, he can't explain it but he feels at ease with you, exactly why he started to look for you after your eventful kiss the other night.

He felt comfortable with you around, you brought him peace, something he could only find with music, that was it! He felt the same way with you as he did with music.

The same thing that led to his and his mother's arguments, but if you were to be the start of an argument between him and his mother then he would defend you until the end, there's some things that he just can't explain and you're one of them, or rather he can't explain why he feels at peace with you around, but rather than trying to figure out why he feels like this he'd rather just bask in the happiness he currently feels, after all he of all people should know how nothing is permanent, however he wishes for you to stay by his side, even though you haven't been around for very long.

The both of you sit on the swings in a comfortable silence, he stares at you as the moonlight highlights your features, this is the first time he's seen you clearly and he wishes for this scenery to be forever engraved in his mind, as a matter of fact, he thinks it already is.

The both of you started walking back to the car since it was already getting cold and he didn't wanna drive you home so late.

"Can I kiss you?"

He blurts out, his straightforwardness catches you off guard, when he realizes his own words, or rather when he realizes how quiet you've been he immediately attempts to take back his statement.

"Nevermind, i'm sorry, I don't know what that was ab-"

"Yes you can."

And he looks at you before his own body moves on its own accord, he moves nearer to you, your back hitting the back of his car as he looks at you once more as if to ask if you're sure and you nod, his hand travels to your cheeks, cupping your face before his lips finally meet yours, you could still taste the blueberry cheesecake he had earlier, his lips are soft and he smells amazing, when you pull away he does the same to catch his breath, his forehead resting on yours while his hands stayed still, he pulls you in for another kiss, though he stopped when his lips were a centimeter away from yours, he was waiting for you to close the gap and you did, his hands lowered to your waist as he pulled you closer, and once the both of you finally pulled away for the second time he nudged your head to rest on your chest, he did this so he can hide how flustered he is and just to feel your warmness for a bit more.

"Ready to go home?"

"Yeah.."

La cultura del nulla.

Partirei col dire che oggi che è il giorno della memoria 'corta' ci si è dimenticati di una lezione dura, come detto altre volte non impariamo dai nostri errori, sapendo che l'olocausto non fu solo per gli ebrei ma anche per tutte quelle minoranze che non andavano bene al regime nazista come i nomadi, gli omosessuali e quelli dalla pelle non bianca, ma di norma questo giorno viene considerato solo per gli ebrei. Quei poveri cristi gassati o uccisi male non hanno niente a che fare con quello che sta succedendo adesso tra israele e la palestina, netanyahu e compagnia bella non sono gli stessi, decisamente, e su questo e quello che c'è attorno ci sarebbe molto da dire, ma mi fermo qua perché il post non è dedicato a loro o al massacro che stanno facendo da mesi sotto gli occhi di tutti senza che nessuno che abbia un minimo di voce in capitolo faccia qualcosa.

Ieri si è aperta la stagione che vede Tartu (la città estone dove vivo) come capitale europea della cultura. Sono andato a prendere un caffè con la piccoletta che a fine mese si trasferisce in Svezia e abbiamo visto nel gelo della giornata parecchie persone vestite con i costumi tradizionali e in piazza c'era un palchetto con musica terribile, facevano le prove. Li per li pensavo che è legato a una delle loro celebrazioni, ho letto qualche post del compleanno del paese o qualcosa del genere, ma mi sbagliavo. Poi la sera arrivava da non molto lontano l'eco di musiche tecno e house a volumi esorbitanti e la mia compagna mi ha detto che è iniziato il periodo della cultura. Quale cultura? Questo paese al confine del mondo conosciuto, di fatto non viene mai calcolato nelle statistiche europee, nato da pochissimo, se si considera che si sono liberati dall'unione sovietica nel 91 e che gli anni 90 li hanno passati ad assestarsi, si può capire che in realtà il paese ha più o meno 25 anni, niente se si paragona a paesi europei come il nostro o altri che hanno contribuito alla storia e alla creazione di questa civiltà in declino. Ma in quegli anni i governi hanno puntato sulla tecnologia, avrete sentito che l'Estonia è una piccola silicon valley e fin qua niente da dire se si pensa che alcuni software di successo sono stati creati qua, skype e nod32 in testa, ma quello che hanno fatto è stato creare una società stile americano, degli stati uniti, ma assorbendo la parte peggiore quella del puritanesimo per avere una facciata bella ma con un interno vuoto e spesso orribile. Questo ha influenzato la cultura, ovviamente, che è stata messa da parte per dare al popolo l'idea che il lavoro sia una priorità assoluta e che tutto il resto è superfluo. C'è anche da non sottovalutare l'enorme gap che hanno questi paesi, quelli del ex blocco sovietico, in termini di tempo (furono inglobati nel 1940) e siccome i russi non volevano che niente di occidentale venisse venduto o riprodotto o consumato dai popoli sottomessi ecco che tutto quello che abbiamo avuto noi, a livello culturale artistico e letterario nel bene e nel male, loro non l'hanno visto. Recuperare 50 anni di storia e di cultura mondiale non è facile, anzi è quasi impossibile perché i periodi storici e i cambiamenti sociali e culturali si devono vivere e capire per poi progredire, loro no, una volta liberi hanno preso quello che pochi e avidi personaggi propinarono loro attraverso i media, quindi parecchio mainstream e qualcosa che recuperavano dagli anni precedenti, per farvi un esempio quelli della mia età e più grandi ricordano con amore i nostri cantanti come Toto Cutugno, Al bano e Romina i ricchi e poveri e tutti quelli di quei San Remo primi anni 80, io dico che i russi li torturavano con il festival come battuta ma in pochi la capiscono perché il nostro festival non lo conosce quasi nessuno, è una cosa prettamente nostra e soprattutto poco esportabile. Si può capire da questa piccola storiella come l'interesse per le arti in generale non sia una priorità per l'estone medio, per carità ho conosciuto persone che hanno una buona cultura musicale, visto che sono del ramo, molti conoscono l'arte e così via, ma perché sono anche loro nel campo ed è logico che prendendo una nicchia cercano di esplorarla il più possibile, anche grazie al mezzo internet. Ma mi è capitato anche di parlare con persone che non conoscono neanche i loro di cantanti, non dico nomi astrusi di nicchia stranieri, ma neanche quelli locali che ve li sbattono ovunque in tutte le salse? Questo la dice lunga quanto sia bassissimo l'interesse.

Quindi la domanda è : Quale cultura andate a celebrare in questo periodo visto che siete la città della cultura europea? Se poi considerate che schifate lo straniero e quindi non tollerate altre forme culturali, cosa andate a mostrare? La cultura dell'alcol? O quanto siete copia e incolla fatto male di un mondo che non ha niente a che vedere con l'Europa?

Questo è a grandi linee un paese che sulla carta è moderno e innovatore, ma che se sposti la carta vedi tanto di quel marcio che diresti 'Ok, statevi per fatti vostri per altri 150 anni poi ne riparliamo'. A me non frega molto fra 2 settimane torno in Trinacria per un periodo XY a rigenerarmi da tutto questo e non so neanche se tornerò più a vivere qua, ma questo dipende molto da come si mettono le cose con lei. Da noi si dice "comu finisci si cunta" (quando finisce si racconta). Penso che l'album giusto sia l'immortale capolavoro del Banco

’Tis the season to be jolly! But it doesn’t really stop there for many of us. If you study in the southern hemisphere, you knpw that December doesn’t mean solely fairy lights, hot cocoa and ice skating dates, it also means spending hours in your local cafe trying to make an Americano last six hours (honestly, why study in a silent library surrounded by stressed out students when you could be sitting in a warm coffee shop, stimulated by the barista’s never-ending jazz playlist and the flux of people coming and going?) and dodging questions such as “How are your preparations for the session going?”, or my favourite “Have you started reading the syllabus yet?”.

Honestly, depending on how you take things in life, December can be as fun as it can be depressing. I’m a Libra, and throughout my whole life I’ve learned that a bit of compromise goes a long way, and this is the month where I can really put my theories to the test. that’s why my first essential of the month is…

1. Advent Calendar

It might sound silly, but having a Christmas Advent not only is an excuse to treat yourself every day, as it also is a form of keeping track of your control over yourself. Sure, watching influencers open a christmas advent a day can be fun, the sadistic pleasure in finding out that the person who payed over €500 for a Chanel calendar is only getting a bunch of stickers and products which are barely worth being displayed in a duty free store is hard to beat, but stick with me on this one!

It’s easy to purposely forget to study, drink one too many festive cocktails, and let all the holiday discounts be a reason for you to splurge on things you wouldn’t otherwise have bought just as it’s easy to eat all the 24 chocolate truffles in one go… But not doing it is just as easy, and, I guess, a good reminder that balance is the best treat on the long run.

I genuinely HATE mini products, so I won’t be reccomending any beauty advents, sorry. I know it may feel too late to get your own, but it’s NEVER too late.

2. Movie Marathon

Maybe it’s the cold, maybe it’s the desire to procrastinate, BUT my will to watch movies skyrockets during this time of the year. There is a ridiculous amount of awful films sets in this time of the year, but if you look you can find some amazing classics that are just UNSKIPPABLE. Whether you want to go out or simply go all out even when you’re staying in is up to you, BUT a crucial thing to my is ending the year with a BANG. Now, I’m not exactly a clubber, but I’m a big enjoyer of fun wherever and whenever, and I can’t go more than a day without having fun with my friends this time of the year. This means random aperitivo nights after leaving six hour lectures, day trips to random cities, and lotsa dinner parties. I know I’ve probably exausted everyojne with lists, but I’m gonna write yet another one, hopefully short this time, of a few activities sprinkle through your weeks, hopefully to inspire some strenght and to end the year on a sweet note.

1. Moodboard night: With the New Year right around the corner, it’s crucial to set your goals straight… and what better way than doing it with friends? Look, I personally don’t think someone should set their vision board on stone, you don’t need to stick to the things you decided to do on a random night for the rest of the year, I personally end up taking a month to write down things to help me understand my own goals and objectives, both personal and professional/ academic… But it’s so nice to talk about all of your prospectives with your friends and loved ones, wonder about the potential that the new year can bring does no harm. If you really feel like this type of thing is too personal, then I’d say you could organize an “Unrealistic Wishlist” board day, when owning a Himalaya Hermes Kelly is a totally achiavable thing! Granted, I’m a tad materialistic, but I just adore learning more about my friends through their materialistic goals, with the right outlook it can be really revealing. Plus, I’m a huge fan of arts and crafts, and I’ll take any excuse I have to do it.

2. Charcuterie dinner: One of my biggest no-nos is showing up empty handed to any dinner, maybe it’s a Brazilian thing, but I’ve never done it and don’t plan on ever doing it. With a charcuterie dinner, I have an excuse to do it! I love charcuterie dinners more than anything in the world, cheese, wine, fruits and salami… no better combination. Not to mention that it’s practically like a live personality quiz for you and your friends, as nothing is more telling of a person’s character than their cheese preference.

3. Christmas shopping afternoon: Preferably to be done with a guy to use as your own bag carrier. Whenever I need to go somewhere or do something, I like to call other people up just in case, and although I love some peace of mind to think clearly when I need to buy presents for myself, when my consumerism is altruistic I love to have someone around to give me second opinions and spare my shoulders of all the extra weight!

4. Homemade decoration and dinner: I currently don’t have an apartment of my own to decorate, but other people’s serve me just as well. One of my favorite activities has been going to my friends’ homes to arrange garlands, make dried orange slices decor and even help to carefully distribute tinsel on the christmas tree. What is a chore to some is fun to others, with the right playlist and conversation specially. Afterwards it’s crucial to have a dinner party as a treat, no decoration shall be wasted!

To Discover

I feel like my consumerism is reaching an all time high right now, and I feel like I might as well share some of my current favourite discoveries with you guys. There’s nothing better than giving (and getting!) gifts from one of a kind stores, and so, I’ve made a little list of places that are definitely worth checking out:

1. Nesines: It’s a brand from barcelona that sells just the coolest shirts. I’ve just gotten one from them and I’m obsessed with the fit, the colors and the model. The quality is amaxzing, and I love that fact that their products have amazing compositions, no polyester around here! If you want a top that can elevate any pair of jeans, look nowhere else!

2. Maria de la Orden: I have to give credit where it’s due… this brand wasn’t on my radar before my mom showed it to me . Colorful velvet can definitely brighten up even the dullest winter days, especially when it’s presented in such unique shapes. Honestly their jackets are to die for, as are their headbands.

3. The obedient Daughter: came across this brand thanks to a kind destiny and now I’m absolutely OBSESSED with their curation of books and clothing. A gorgeous presentation of products that are unique but timeless… I simply NEED their Diana skirt.

4. MC2 Saint Barth: Okay not really a discovery, but THE place we should all be looking at for a perfect tongue in cheek aprés ski sweater. Ngl, I’m giving each of my siblings a sweater this christmas, and although I KNOW it might be an overdone gift, it’s a classic for a reason. And I myself know my sister would never not appreciate the opportunity to walk around Cervinia with a hot pink sweater that says “FAVOLOSA”

5. Bella Freud: Again, not a discovery, but worth a mention just because this was the month when I truly explored the brand’s full potential. Everyone knows their gorgeous sweaters with the best quotes (Godard IS GOD!), but I’m currently obsessed with their candles, ceramics and overall home accessories. Can someone please give me their Cunty mug? Please?)

To be worn

Sunglasses: I’m a guilty “occhiali da nebbia” wearer, much to my friends’ dismay. Though some may think it can be a bit bizzarre to wear sunglasses out on days when the sun doesn’t seem to get any high, I don’t have any shame in looking (or at least feeling) cool no matter the weather … My current go tos are the Dior Palladium (if you get it to wear in Venice it’s even better, that way, if anyone asks, you can say you’re paying your respects for Andre Palladio’s influential architecture)

Fur trimmed everything: Okay maybe i’ve been watching one too many episodes of friends, and letting the 90s influence a bit too much over my style, but recently I’ve been obsessed with fur trimmed coats. Long or short, black or camel, it doesn’t matter. I didn’t bite when everyone was going crazy over that green trench back in 2020, but now it’s different! A classic cut with a bit of fun fur will never go out of style in my eyes.

Barretes: Okay I think barretes are not an addition to my blog, I’ve probably been proudly posting about being a proud barrette wearer since 2020, but now I’ve actually been converted, and went from being a strictly tortoiseshell hair accessories wearer to a the brighter the better one. The one thing to blame is none other than the city of Copenhagen, where I discovered Maanesten and Pico, and FEASTED.

Herbag: Taking to “To Be” oof this section a bit too literally, and even a bit too hopefully. Not only do I absolutely love the fact that it reminds me a bit of the Kelly, I also love its overall practicality, everyone I know that has it rages on and on about its endless perks. While the fact that its body is made out of canvas rather than the famous traditional Hermes leather might be a turn off to some but to me it’s just perfect, principally because I’ve been planning on getting it to use it as a school bag and I’ve had the misfortune to have once tried to carry a leather bag around all day just to practically destroy it in one day.

Scarves and Pashminas: Winter is the season when I really can’t seem to escape all black outfits, but wearing a beautifully textured pashmina ALWAYS is a game changer for me. I feel like every city in the world has a Tibet store packed with the most varied options of material, print and density, I know Milan has an incredible one (although the Paris Tibet Forever on Le Marais will always take the cake).
