Terrible Fic Ideas #6: GOT SI, but make it Lysa Arryn

Look: I don't usually like self-inserts. Usually, I find them to be utterly unsympathetic at best and without understanding of their context at worst. That being said, I've read two quite well-written and believable SI in the Game of Thrones fandom that I quite enjoy, The Prancing Stag, which has a modern LGBT+ man replace Renly Baratheon during the events of the first book, and Down a Rabbit Hole to Westeros, which has the SI replace young Selyse Florent.

Naturally, I tried to come up with how I would do the same, and came up with replacing Lysa Arryn when she was a young girl.

Just imagine:

Rather than a true self-insert, I see this more of a modern girl in Westeros, with a casual fan of the books and show waking up in 5-year-old Lysa Tully's body immediately following the death of her mother in a wave of minor illness that swept through the Riverlands. The keyword here is casual: the SI has read the books, seen the show, and spent more time reading the fic than one can count, but couldn't, say, state with any certainty the exact timeline or even the exact backgrounds of more than the most prominent of characters. Moreover, the book canon and show canon and various fanon ideas have all twisted together in her mind that young Lysa (as I shall call her moving forward) couldn't differentiate between them if she tried.

So, we have a middle-aged modern woman waking up as 5-year-old Lysa Tully. Once she finally resigns herself to the fact that, yes, this seems to be happening, she figures that absolutely nothing she can do can alter the events leading up to the rebellion, but she can put herself in a position as future wife of the future Hand of the King to 1) be a trusted advisor to the the Hand of the King, whose opinions will be valued, and 2) to not kill the Hand of the King via poison.

So, yes, there's the passing nod to the whole list of achievements Caroline Bingley gives in Pride and Prejudice, but Lysa will always be outshone in these - except perhaps in reading and foreign languages - by Caitlyn, and honestly doesn't need to give more than a passing nod because if the situation plays out like it does in the books, Jon Arryn will have no choice to marry her, be she the most graceful of medieval fantasy women or the most wild of hoydens.

Instead, SI Lysa takes the view that, if she can't be pretty or accomplished, she can at least be useful. But being a modern woman with a modern understanding of how things works, her usefulness is rather limited by her medieval setting. I.e., she may understand the concept of a blast furnace, or a pendulum clock, or a cotton gin, but without coke, or machining gears, or even a steady supply of cotton, those concepts have limited usefulness.

But SI Lysa has the benefit of knowing the most useful invention of all: the scientific method, from which all else follows.

And so, quiet, self-contained, unlovely Lysa Tully sets out to develop, from a young age, the fields of botany, genetics, agricultural science, and pharmacology. She sets up a garden and takes careful notes. She repeats Mendel's studies of pea plants and John Bennet Lawes' experiments with fertilizers and, as best as possible, Robert Hooke's observations through microscopes - taking excellent notes throughout. As she gets older, she makes improvements to the distillation process simply to try to make better medicines from the herbs she has available. And, through the simple desire not to potentially die in childbirth, teams up with every midwife in the kingdom to develop the obstetrical forceps. This has a consequence of making the Riverlands, for the first time in history, as agriculturally productive as the Reach as these developments start to catch on - and its population somewhat healthier. (And, as a consequence of distillation, introduces spirits to Westeros, and makes her family rich via trade as well increased taxes.)

Because I am an engineer by training, I have perhaps concentrated on the science side rather more than the plot - but there is plot, and probably less science than I would hope, because there are quite a lot of things needed before a true scientific and industrial revolution can begin. Many scientific breakthroughs have been held up by the lack of accurate enough methods of measuring the experiments, and this generation and the next is basically getting the ball rolling.

But plot.

First, Lysa encourages her father to remarry after the death of her mother - it is, after all, the best way to build alliances in this age, and if Hoster Tully remarries within the Riverlands it could shore up support he definitely seems to lack in the books. (Maybe a Frey, maybe the sister or cousin of Walder's current wife, something that ties this house to the Tullys.) This also has the side effect of giving his children more parental supervision than they seem to have had, perhaps having a moderating effect on Caitlyn's temperament.

By the simple expedient of paying attention to baby Edmure, Lysa gets a duckling who follows after her in scientific endeavors - some work of his own in ag science, but maybe he takes an interest in telescopes after seeing her work in microscopy and becomes the first link in the chain that figures out Westeros' insane Milankovitch cycles and thus gets a handle on its winters.

Plus, Littlefinger never gets the toehold he needs to set his plans in motion. He's still in the background, scheming, but without near as much success as access to a Great House and Small Council would give them.

The rebellion is where my plot bunny runs out - it obviously happens, perhaps even exactly as before, but with one major change: the introduction of forceps allow Queen Rhaella to come out alive from her final childbed, and she is able to escape with Viserys and baby Daenerys to Essos before Stannis can take Dragonstone.

But from there, who knows? Maybe after spending a decade in Targaryen Westeros she decides that Robert is just the king the kingdom needs and works to mitigate his failings (and Cersei's problematic tendencies) with her husband, perhaps drawing in young Renly (claiming the boy needs a mother figure) and Stannis (by giving him the validation Robert never has).

Perhaps she lets Ned know she knows the truth of Jon Snow offers to foster him, with the intention of raising him to be something like the Lord of Moat Cailin (if Robert turns out to be a decent king with management) or seeing him on the Iron Throne (if Robert can't change his ways).

Honestly, everything after the Rebellion gets really fuzzy. The only thing I know for sure is that without having had to take moon tea too late, Lysa is at least able to give Jon Arryn healthy heirs, so that when he inevitably dies she's in a strong position to be the Vale's Queen of Thorns.... Which would be an interesting idea for a title, if I could think of what the Vale equivalent might be.

And that's all I really have: a lot of science, a smattering of plot, and some strong feelings on the realistic changes that even an educated modern person could make on a medieval society.

Vintage 26th.

It’s a quiet dinner, sifting through condolence cards and messages, and talking about their memories of Trisha. It’s not quite the close of their mourning periods - and gods know that Aaron won’t be wearing colours again anytime soon - but there is a sense tonight of a closing of a chapter. By now, the star-rods have returned to their usual steady glow, no more unfurling leaves and petals in misty light. Trisha’s soul has found rest and peace, and these stories are following where the fractured pieces of her soul are going. 

The news has reached foreign lands by now. There are gifts and letters from places all across Runeterra, from the friends Caitlyn has made and from those who have had their present brushed up against Piltover’s.

Aaron is taking his time to read every single one. He’d even made a joke about the difference in quality between the Demacian scroll from the new king and the collection of Noxian missives from the Trifarix: Which ones would they frame?

There are cards that have come from the eastern border, too. They had to be carefully examined by customs before they made it to Caitlyn’s desk, a number of them culled for inappropriate contents, but there are a lot of people who mourn the loss of the greatest inventor on Runeterra. “Apparently,” Caitlyn murmurs, “The Machine Herald’s arrival at the funeral put them all to shame.”

Vi snorts a laugh, mouth still full of cold-roast-meat sandwich.

“I think I like him,” Kelly says, quietly. “And the construct, too.”

“A fun pair.” Elliot salutes the eastern window with his wine glass. “Cheers, mates. Glad you could make it.”

Caitlyn smiles faintly, setting down a handful of rough notes from her old college to do the same. Aaron does too, thoughtful, quiet. Vi raises her pint, and drains it. Kelly doesn’t raise a glass. She’s not drinking, but that’s no surprise. Her belly’s rather round.

“So, uh. Dad.” Elliot puts his glass down, his arm still around his wife. “I got a question.”

Aaron looks up from the condolence letters.

The young man’s mouth opens and closes a bit, before he gives a sheepish shrug and leans into Kelly. “We were hoping to move in. Because, like: big house, didn’t want you to be, y’know... alone.” His hand slides to Kelly’s stomach. “And the kid... should be scraping his knees in the same places I did, yeah? So uh, yeah. The question: can we?”

Aaron blinks. And then blinks again. “El.” Too choked up to say much more.

Caitlyn feels a small twinge.

“I’ve already spoken to my family,” Kelly says. “I know it breaks tradition, but they’re progressive.” She smiles, brightly. “If you want us around, of course. We... we thought we’d offer.”

“We kinda don’t wanna take no for an answer, though,” Elliot adds, trying to be serious. “Because we want to be here with you, Dad.”

“We will take no for an answer if it’s too much, though,” Kelly adds, giving her husband a brief ‘we talked about this’ look.

“Course you can live here,” Aaron says, his voice soft and raw. “Course you can.”

Kelliot - the collective - breathe a grateful sigh, and start talking about the moving process, and the things they can do around the house.

Caitlyn clears her throat. “... well. I also have a question.”

Vi looks at her partner. 

Caitlyn feels the sharpness of that gaze, and swallows. But her tone is level as she continues to speak. “I was also going to offer to move home again,” she says, calmer than she feels. “It’s been... long enough, I think, for my tantrum.” She looks at her father. “Will you have me back?”

Aaron looks at his daughter. “Oh, kiddo, you...” He breathes a small sigh, then nods. “Course. Whatever you need.”

“Well, it’s...”

“Not just for me, I hope.” Aaron raises an eyebrow.

Caitlyn hums. Not everything is quite possible to say out loud just yet. Especially when she hasn’t had a proper discussion with her partner about what the near future will entail. And speaking of... 

Vi leans back in her chair, whining softly. “See, I was just gonna offer to come hang out more often...”

“Well,” Aaron manages a small smile. “You can do that, y’know.”

“Yeah, but like... everyone’s movin’ in, and now I feel like I gotta do that!”

“You do not have to do anything, Vi,” Caitlyn says, softly. “I know you having your own apartment is important.” A place all to Vi’s own, somewhere private and safe, somewhere that no-one can take away, something that Zaun never let her have.

Vi gives Caitlyn a look. It’s a complex expression, a little hurt mixed in with the stubbornness and willingness to please and the part that desperately wants to be a part of this family and she feels like she’s being closed out. Caitlyn has learned to read Vi well over these past two decades, almost as well as Vi has learned to read Caitlyn.

“Cait’s right,” Aaron says, smiling at Vi. “Keep your place. Come and visit, but keep your place. And maybe have a spare bed handy, in case Cait can’t handle people. You know what she’s like.”

Caitlyn looks at her father. Aaron smiles back.

And Vi grins, a little lopsidedly. “Yeah. I know what she’s like.”

Thinking hard on my weird Werewolf CaitViVander fic. They really need a proper ship name, uhh... CaitViVan?

So, at this point Vander has already mated with Caitlyn in order to impregnant her (and Vi by proxy because Vi joined in on the session). I imagine that after Caitlyn is revealed to be successfully bred, that she and Vander will officiate things and get married, so she'd be his second wife with Vi being the first wife.

Caitlyn comes and goes. She splits her time between Vander's home and her parents' home. When she's with Vander, she performs her wifely duties (aka, she acts as his main consultant when the pack has troubles).

Vi can't stand Caitlyn. She's incredibly jealous of her and Vander's relationship although Vander swears it's strictly business professional. She gives Vander an ultimatum. She wants Caitlyn out of her house or she'll be the one that leaves for good.

Vi: It's not fair that she has somewhere else to go. This is all I have. It's my home and I want her to stay out of it. Vander: It's my home, Vi, not yours or hers.

Vi doesn't argue, she just waits for Vander to leave so she can pack her things to go. She hides her bags in the car and tries to leave but her brothers try to stop her.

Claggor: Vander wants you here where it's safe. Vi: I want to see my sister. Mylo: You know how he feels about Powder. Vi: You guys used to be cool. Now, you're just like the rest of them.

Vi leaves anyway and heads to Silco's where Powder now lives (although she goes by Jinx now that she's taken her place as Silco's only wife). Vi's hope is to seek shelter with them. Silco questions her.

Silco: Vander's... Why are you here? Vi: I'm not Vander's anymore. I left him, I'm on my own now.

Of course Silco will take her in. Anything to get back at Vander and to leave him disadvantaged. Now he has Vi, Vander's first wife/mate. She's pregnant with his child, too, the future leader of their pack.

So then what? Vander would chase after Vi to bring her home but she can't even look at him anymore. Perhaps Caitlyn is the one to convince her, in the end. Caitlyn doesn't want to fight, she's only doing her duty to her people by bridging the gap between Zaun and Piltover. She had no idea Vi existed (or that she hated the idea of Vander having a second wife) until she swore herself and her word.

Sims Mobile Adventures. Part 21: Dawkins and Their Kin

Damian didn’t just lay around and wait for his death. He got to work right away to help the next generation get a solid footing. With Dionysus taking the mantle as the head of the house, he was not able to assist in the publication of Diana’s fan fiction. Good thing Uncle Damian’s here!

Just like his sister Artemis, Dmitri realized that being a Marine Biologist was not what he wanted to do. But unlike his sister who became a DJ, he became a surgeon. A generation has passed since a descendant of Victor took on the medical field. This became a sort of joke in the family that Dmitri is actually the reincarnation of the Founder Victor. His cousin Victoria remarked that their Grandfather Victor would be the proudest of him since he is a surgeon unlike the other who took artistic occupations. Maybe that was the reason he was so fond of Caitlyn, the only lawyer amongst a fashion designer, massage therapist, and stylist.

But his sisters would say that he actually resembles their maternal uncle Alessio more.

Because her biological father wasn’t much around, he stepped up and raised Bernadette like his own daughter. Since she looked like the spitting image of her mother and had the same skin tone as her uncle, she believed that they were her parents. Damian didn’t have the heart to correct her since he grew to love her like his own.

When she was newly born, her mother took her to live in a shed in Dawkin’s territory. That’s where she spent her early childhood. Vivian didn’t want to bother the other family members with her failed marriage and her struggles as a single mother, so in shame she fled. Damian was furious because he didn’t want them to be living in squalor when he could just provide for them right here. So he came up to the territory and took them in.

He entrusted the territory to a farmhand Vikram Aurora. He would eventually develop the shack a bit into the current Casa Aurora.

Bernadette idolized him because she saw him as her savior that day. She dressed like him, followed him everywhere he went, and always listened to his stories. When Bernadette turned 18, her mother became weaker and had to retire from her job.

She assisted her “father” in his administrative duties and cared for her family like a real head would. She never suspected that the family friend Alessio was her father since…you know. If you see this for yourself, she doesn’t even look like him.

In the meantime, Dmitri was enjoying himself in his new job. He had a crush on his coworker Brett even if he was way older than him

Now that that Damian and Vivian are old, Bernadette knew that she would be the sole bearer of the Dawkins line.

She knew that her grandmother Daniela wasn’t the most emulated person since she caused the rift between the families the first place but she was still the first wife. The Dawkins line was born out of love while the Kiramman line was out of stability and convenience. (Other sources would say it was more of the opposite)

It was a miracle that her uncle Damian even became the head, since there was talks of making Dionysus the 2nd head instead. She was assured that the Dawkins were safe under her presumed father’s loving hands but what would happen when her uncle Dionysus takes over? Will they be forgotten?

She forgot about her fears for awhile since the bearers of the Kiramman line were coming over. They strutted over like a bunch of models on the runway. I guess it makes sense since Victoria would go undercover as a model sometimes.

It seems that her cousin Victoria has found a way to make her mothers immortal.

Diana was best friends with her cousin so she got to join in the Kiramman fun. Damian was excited to meet the couple since Caitlyn and him made amends. He had a wonderful time with his sister Vivian.

After the visit, she got to talk with her mother about her fears and about the future of the Dawkins line. Her mother assured her that the Chang was still her family. Dionysus and her grew up together, she felt like that they were truly siblings. Yes, even if it was awkward between Daniela and Cassandra they managed to make it work. Her cousin Victoria assured her that as the bearer of the Kiramman line, she holds no resentment of the Dawkins and is here to support Bernadette in case she needs it

Her fears started to come true when her mother passed away shortly after that conversation.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHH OH MY GAWD YOU START WITH TMA AND THEN TELL US YOU ALSO WATCH ARCANE? WE HAVE THE SAME TASTE! I finished it yesterday and it destroyed me too but I would love to hear your thoughts on it if you wanted to share them ~ after seeing you post about the Firelights vastaya guy (the bat one) I'm curious

Aww :). I powered on with The Magnus Archives while I was painting krampus yesterday, and I’m now near the end of the second season. Enjoying it a lot so far, and I’ve definitely got headcanons popping up for that too, though I’m a bit too shy to share those just yet, especially since it’s my first time listening to it, and I’m sure I’ve missed a lot of details.

As for Arcane, yeah, I wasn’t expecting to get into it really - I’m normally a ‘medieval fantasy’ kind of person, but I really enjoyed it. It’s one hell of an emotional ride though. Oof my god. Favourite characters so far have been Viktor, Vi, Caitlyn, and yeah, the bat-eared friend in the Firelights. The chemistry between Vi and Caitlyn was everything I wanted and I loved them wholeheartedly. Interested to see where that goes in Season 2 whenever that happens.

I had to look up what ‘vastaya’ was since I’ve not played any of the game and know almost nothing about the lore, but if you say he’s a vastaya then that works for me!

Spontaneous ‘bat-ear guy headcanons’ below, though really I’ve just created a character/OC inspired by him, rather than fixing on that character from the show. I said ‘single dad’ in my other post, and I’m ammending that to ‘widower’, just so folks are aware. No other warnings, I think...

My character based on the guy from the show is called Dex, and he grew up in Zaun. He used to work ‘security’ for a shitty bar somewhere in the depths of the city, and lost his wife to illness brought on by the toxic atmosphere. With just his newborn daughter left, he joined the Firelights and is now an integral part of their community. He fights for a better world, knowing it won’t happen in his lifetime, but he hopes to lay the groundwork for his daughter’s future.

He’s quiet - because of his mouthful of sharp teeth, he doesn’t speak all that much, and finds human language tricky - but he listens (no ear puns intended) and is very observant and thoughtful, liking to work things out all the way through before acting or speaking, which sometimes frustrates the more impulsive members of the Firelights.

He would do literally anything to protect his daughter, and he finds comfort and peace in holding her in his arms.

He’s very wary of topsiders, but also of strangers. He does not trust easily, and it takes a lot for him to open up, but usually once you’ve won him over, he’s very loyal.

He’s panromantic, though he tends to lean more towards women when it comes to physical attraction, but since his wife died, he hasn’t wanted to have any kind of intimacy with anyone. It’s just not been there.

Because of his heightened hearing, he’s sensitive to loud noises, so doesn’t tend to enjoy going out into the city or into the bars and clubs. He’s also colourblind, seeing only in greyscale (it was the green layer over his species’ eyes that made me think of it). He can use a sort of echolocation in the dark. His ears are also extremely touch-sensitive......... do with that information what you will.

He’s got claws on hands and feet, and he tends to keep them pretty sharp. He trains with a spear, and prefers that to guns and most other weapons. His martial arts style is all about kicks and using his long leggies (forgive my taekwondo background here. Think Spike from Bebop as a fighting style?).

He’s also had some medical training, though it’s more along the lines of ‘field medicine/first aid’ than anything you’d find ‘topside’.

A Letter to Canada, following the end of the war

April 25, 1865

XXXX ___________ St

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

To my Brother, Matthew Williams,

By this point I’m sure you’ve heard the news of the war’s end earlier this month, and of the dreadful loss of my President. I would like to assure you that the peace will be lasting, and that the Southern army has been defeated so completely that you needn’t worry for my sake. Even without Lincoln, though my grief is immense, I will carry on toward prosperity once again. My countrymen have been reunited, though significantly limited. Every man, excepting officers, relinquished their side arms at the surrender. While I expect it will be some time before the scars of this dreadful business heal, I have no doubt that they will.

My reason for writing to you, in addition to assuring you of my own safe passage through the end of this war, to bring news of gladder temperament. Though Ms. Caitlyn Montgomery has, for some time preceding The Disagreement, been cold and distant from me, she is no longer so. I will explain exactly what has happened since the surrender, but I will also caution you that you should probably sit down before reading further. The details are gruesome, though they end happily.

On the 9th of April, the final battle between our armies commenced, very early in the morning. In this battle, Kitty was struck by the butt of a rifle, stabbed by bayonets, and trampled by horses. She laid as a corpse for several hours in the open field, where I found her. I went looking for her when her general appeared for the surrender and she did not. I took her back with me to the place of surrender, but she did not awaken. I can only assume that the dissolution of her polity left her soul in flux for several days, as she did not revive until after the death of Lincoln on the morning of the 15th.

Though my grief for my President tore at my heart, her revival softened the blow. To tell you the truth, I thought that I would have to bury her as well as Lincoln, and the thought of that, I’m certain, would have driven me to madness. Let us be grateful that such an unfortunate event did not occur!

But when she awoke, she had no memory of me, nor of herself. She was like a little child, entirely unaware of all that had passed. And since I had no intention of causing her (or myself) any pain, I fabricated a story of a happier existence. She now believes herself to be human, and believes that we have been married for five years.

She is a most wonderful wife! Without much further questioning, she has accepted the role joyfully. I never imagined that I would ever see her smile on me again, yet every day she smiles with such life and brilliance that I fall more deeply in love with her than I ever thought possible. While I know it is not the custom of our kind to marry and thrive in domesticity, I cannot endorse the practice any more strongly than I do now to you. I’ve never known love and joy like I have these past two weeks. She wipes away every worry that I’ve had. She makes me hopeful for the future. And I might add, though it may be crass to say, that I never considered how voracious a woman’s appetite for her husband might be, until recently. I will assure you that I have not forced myself upon her, as I am well-aware of the problems that might arise if I had - I am more often the one caught off-guard and unprepared. But that aside, she is healthy and happy, and I wish for nothing more than for her happiness to continue.

I do not know when I will next be able to visit you, as there is much that still needs to be completed here in DC before I even consider making trips abroad, but I hope that the day will be soon that I see you again. With the war’s end, I firmly believe that the darkest chapter of my life has closed, and all of history’s troubles shall cease.

I like how everyone is worried about Wildmoore being married or not but they have to remember this is a timeline Thawne created and fucked up so it's not exactly a future timeline we would want to keep but also even Thawne couldn't change our queen Ryan she'll always be Batwoman and badass and smart. I'm looking forward to the friendship with Iris I hope we get multiple scenes between them. I do have a question though where is Caitlin? Maybe her not being there means she's on Barry's side?

I don't know if some people don't normally watch Flash and that's how they're freaked out by the alternate timeline and worried if Sophie isn't Ryan's wife. It's all just fun and games 😂 It will be absolutely incredible if they are married, but it means nothing if they aren't. They're endgame on Batwoman and in the real timeline.

I am so ready for Iris and Ryan. We better get multiple scenes.

The fact I didn't even notice Caitlyn wasn't there until you just said it 💀

People always test Ryan and she comes through it all 🥂🤧

Legacy Heroes

After Nora and Joe showing up, Barry hadn’t really thought anything stranger could happen.

Long story short... he was wrong.

“Let me out,” the girl said sweetly, not seeming at all bothered by the fact that she was behind the glass of a meta containment cell.

The girl in question had been dubbed ‘Treble,’ despite her insistence that she already had a codename, but couldn’t tell it because she was from the future and it could jeopardize her past.

Treble had brown hair, dyed with streaks of purple, tan skin, and green eyes. She was maybe Nora and Joe’s age, and her nonchalance reminded Barry of someone. He just couldn’t remember who.

“She’s radiating tachyons,” Cisco mumbled to him, “Definitely a time traveler; must have followed your kids here.”

“Duh,” Treble said with a roll of her eyes, “Of course I did.”

Barry and Cisco both tried to hide their shock at the fact that she had even heard them. Then she pointed to her ears.

“Sensitive to sounds? That’s literally my whole thing.”

Cisco snorted, “Yeah, and leveling buildings with those sound frequencies.”

That was an exaggeration. The girl had whistled at a hotdog cart and sent it flying against a building, but she hadn’t caused lasting damage to anything except the hotdog cart.

She rolled her eyes, “That was just to get your attention. Truthfully, I was hoping for the Twin Tornado Terrors, but—“

“You mean the Tornado Twins,” Barry clarified, “My kids, who you conveniently borrowed the time sphere to follow here, but definitely aren’t an enemy to?”

Treble huffed in frustration, “You think I’m an enemy? You’re the one who sent me here! Well, technically it was your wife, but she sent me to bring those two home so they don’t mess up the past anymore than they already have!”

“You keep talking about the twins,” Cisco noted, “But you don’t actually say their names.”

“Fine,” Treble said, “Joe and Nora West-Allen. You’re Cisco Ramon and the Flash is Barry Allen, married to Iris West-Allen. Are you going to let me out, now?”

“You could have gotten that information as an enemy,” Barry said untrustingly, “I’m going to need more information than that. How’d you meet them?”

She sighed, “Fine, if it’s so important to you. Not too long from now, Team Flash and Team Arrow kind of merge into one with a bunch of other heroes to form the... the Super Friends. Fast forward a few decades, everybody’s got kids and all those kids grew up together. We’re basically cousins. Of course, some heroes never joined up or split over time, so some dating between the younger generation does happen, but...” Treble’s face reddened, “I’m getting off topic here. The point is, we call ourselves Legacies. Ask Joe or Nora and they’ll confirm it.”

Now that Barry was paying attention, the story made sense. Treble had a nervous tick belonging to Ray and a faraway look in her eye that reminded Barry of Caitlyn when she was concentrating. Her mostly calm mask was Sara’s and her relaxed-but-powerful stance was a mix of Rene’s and Kara’s. The more he looked, the more he saw his friends’ body language. Now that he thought about it, it was a thing Nora and Joe shared with her; as if they’d been raised together by a large group of heroes who’d have to pass the young kids off frequently leaving one person babysitting so the others could go on missions...

Joe and Nora were on a trip with Iris to meet Wally. Barry was hearing a vague hunch, and that wasn’t enough reason to call them back.

He shrugged, “Look, just tell us who your parents are and maybe we’ll believe your story.”

“I can’t do that.”

“Why not?”

“Because my parents aren’t together yet at this point in the timeline, and I kind of like existing.”

Cisco held up a glass from when they’d given her water earlier, “Well, we’ll know who you are soon enough.”

Treble’s face darkened, “You don’t want to do that.”

“Why not?”

“Because my parents have a very specific arc of enemies-to-friends-to-lovers and they’re only in the friends stage right now!”

“Don’t worry, kid,” Cisco said, “Finding out about you will probably just bring them closer together.”

Barry and Cisco were about to walk away when the brunette responded.

“Well, let me narrow down the search a little.”

The containment cell was set up to combat the frequencies they’d heard from Treble before.

It was not set up to contain a full sonic scream.

That definitely narrowed the search on Treble’s parents. It narrowed it to two known metas.

“I warned you,” Treble said simply as she took the glass from Cisco, “I’ll just go find those two speedy idiots now if you don’t mind.”

With one sharp note, she shattered the glass and ground the pieces into the floor with her shoe.

...

“So, Siren or Canary?” Cisco asked as they ran the DNA test, “My bet is on Laurel with that attitude, but she does kind of have Dinah’s coloring.”

Caitlyn shrugged, “Well, could be either depending on who they end up with. It’s a toss of the dice; this girl looks neutral enough that she could be either of theirs, or neither.”

Treble had cut herself when she broke the glass. She’d probably thought the blood sample was too small and too ground into the floor, but Barry had scraped some off for Caitlyn to run a paternity test on.

The test beeped and Caitlyn looked confused at the results.

“Wait, no. That can’t be right.”

“What can’t be right?” Barry asked.

“The test didn’t just come back with a match from the database of known metas and heroes,” Caitlyn said, strangely serious, “It came back with two.”

“Well, which was it, and who do they end up with?” Cisco asked impatiently.

Caitlyn shook her head, “No. You don’t understand. This girl isn’t just a match for Laurel Lance or Dinah Drake. Genetically... she’s a match for both of them.”

...

Dinah didn’t believe it, and she was staring at a computer screen that clearly linked her DNA and Laurel’s to the meta from the future Barry had captured.

Barry had gone to get a Laurel from Earth 2. Dinah wasn’t sure she wanted to face her.

“How is this possible?” She asked finally, “Two women can’t have a child.”

“Barry called Kara,” Caitlyn said, “It’s not possible for humans yet. But her people have a kind of tech that can create a baby from a sample of DNA as small as a strand of hair. It doesn’t matter what the parents’ genders are.”

“And this girl definitely acted like Laurel,” Cisco pointed out, “But her cry sounded like yours.”

Dinah stared at the security image of the kid. She had Dinah’s hair and Laurel’s facial structure. Dinah had to admit... she did look like the perfect combination of Siren and Canary.

“How sure are you?”

“Very sure,” Caitlyn said, “The match for both of you was 99.98%. If she somehow faked her DNA, she did a very good job.”

“What’s her name?”

Cisco shrugged, “We have no idea. She wouldn’t tell us anything. We called her Treble before, but... now I’m thinking we need to come up with something more avian for her.”

“What’s this I hear about a kid from the future who claims to be my—“ Laurel stopped as she rounded the corner, “Dinah.”

“I was going to wait to tell her,” Barry said, somewhat defensively as he came around the corner, “But she was very persuasive.”

“So apparently we have a kid,” Dinah said simply.”

“Naturally,” Laurel responded, “Barry said it was alien tech.”

“Yup.”

“You both are being surprisingly cool about this,” Cisco said.

“I come from a parallel universe where you were one of the most feared men on the planet,” Laurel pointed out, “Babies made with by two women via alien technology is not that far fetched.”

“First of all, ouch,” Cisco said, “Second, we wanted to wait until we had both of you here to try to find her, so any ideas how to do that?”

Laurel shrugged, “If she’s my daughter, you might be able to track her cry. Felicity did that once.”

“But then we won’t be able to find her until she uses it,” Caitlyn objected.

Dinah shrugged, “Well, I kind of doubt she’s going to hurt anyone, being our kid.”

“You never know,” Laurel muttered, “I wasn’t exactly an angel child when I was young.”

...

The brown-haired girl guessed she wasn’t that surprised when two birds landed behind her.

What would become the Justice League was too good not to.

“Hey, little girl,” the Siren said, “We heard you’ve been causing a lot of trouble.”

The girl didn’t respond.

“You got a name?” the Canary asked.

“Violet Canary.”

“How about your real name?” the Siren pressed.

Violet Canary finally turned around to face her mothers, “Quinn Olivia Drake.”

“You’re here to get Nora and Joe,” Dinah said.

“That’s right.”

“So,” Laurel said after a few seconds of awkward silence, “Which of us is ‘Mom’ and which is ‘Mama?’”

Quinn shrugged, “I don’t know. You both died before I was born.”

“What?” Dinah asked.

“What happened to not being able to tell anything about the future?” Laurel added.

“It’s different,” Quinn muttered, “I never knew you, but I spent my whole life missing you. I understand why Nora and Joe did what they did. I wish I could do it, too. But I know that I can’t make you survive the Crisis without possibly making something worse happen in response.”

“What could be the harm in spending a few days here?” Laurel asked, surprising both Quinn and Dinah, “If you never got to know us in your time?”

Quinn smiled sadly, “More than you think.”

“Whether you knew us or not, you’re our daughter,” Dinah said, “We want to know you.”

“I can teach you some tricks with your cry,” Laurel volunteered.

Quinn knew it would lead to more harm than good. She knew she could disrupt the very timeline she had come here to preserve.

But the chance to spend time with the mothers she never knew? To possibly prevent them from ever dying in the first place?

“Just for a couple days.”

Season 8 Teaser Tells You More Than You Think!

I’m not going to lie, I’ve been so caught up in how HOT Sansa looked in the teaser I haven’t been able to focus on anything else. Lol! I’m going to expand more on that later on because I think it’s significant but I wanted to share with you my quick thoughts on this teaser below:

1. Once and for all this teaser should finally put to the rest the debate on whether or not Jon’s parentage reveal is going to matter. Someone literally told me once that it wasn’t going to matter because know one was going to believe Bran......

NEWSFLASH!! This was never a debate and it was always going to matter!!! It’s the biggest secret of the goddamn show and once it’s revealed everything will change!

2. I love this video because honestly I think this is a visual representation of Jon’s journey/struggle with his identity as a Stark and how he will ultimately choose/side with the STARKS!Jon seems to walk hesitantly in the crypts frequently stopping hearing the voices of the dead. Instead of voices of accusation telling him he doesn’t belong, it’s voices of Stark’s who loved him deeply and sacrificed everything to keep him alive and safe but also affirm him in his Stark identity. Caitlyn ties into this as well because her quote is clearly signifying her regret for not loving Jon and naming him a Stark.

To me this has nothing to do with a future targ baby and everything to do with Sansa and Arya loving and affirming Jon as a Stark in a way their mother never could. They would each have their roles to play. Sansa will love him romantically and protect him politically. Arya’s deep familial love will remain, but she will protect and defend Jon fiercely. Both women are self assured in their roles and who they are, hence why they walk confidently, full force ahead with Sansa only sparing Caitlyn a glance.

3. This teaser to me is a clear indication that everything will come to a head at the same time and that the parentage reveal will happen before the WWs arrive! Translation, shit will hit the fan! I mean is the teaser not clearly depicting both the political and emotional consequences of Jon’s parentage reveal as they face potential death by the WWs?! First, the political consequences with Lyanna’s quote of “You need to protect him.” This isn’t just a throwaway line to signify who Jon’s mother is. This is a very intentional quote signifying that Jon will need protection once his parentage is revealed! Plain and simple.

Jon will need protection from Daenerys, the one person that his parentage fucks everything up for and probably the Northern Lords who more than likely will try to cast him aside. Emotionally, like I stated above, the teaser shows Jon struggling with his Stark identity and needing affirmation. For both consequences, his family is wrapped up in it just as much as he is which is the significance of Sansa and Arya being present in a teaser that is predominantly about him.

Then when they are seemingly coming together they face their statues (#death) and right after we get the White Walker presence. Anyway this is just how I see it! I personally think the teaser is making this clear.

4. There is a reason why Arya doesn’t walk by a statue. The show is explicitly trying to make the Ned and Cat/Jon and Sansa parallels clear as day. Not only are they supposed to represent their legacy but Jon and Sansa are supposed to clearly parallel Ned and Cat’s relationship as husband and wife. They are the ruling couple of the North. The future of House Stark and possibly The future King and Queen of Westeros.  

5. There is a reason why Sansa looks so freaking gorgeous in this teaser! Idc Idc. There is no way in hell that they have Sansa looking fine as hell around Jon for no reason whatsoever! Not only is she the YMBQ but her ass is definitely getting wifed up and loved up this season.

6. @secretsolstice mentioned this and I thought it was such a great point but I wouldn’t be surprised if the crypts end up being the Starks meeting and scheming place. Also can anyone see Bran telling Jon about his parents in the crypts or is that just me?!

7. Last but certainly not least, the fucking feather. I’m gonna tag @thelawyerthatwaspromised because her post says it all. All I have to say is the same feather Sansa lovingly picks up, dusts off, and places in Lyanna’s hands is in this teaser and you mean to tell me that it absolutely means nothing and has no significance in connecting the three of them?! Alright bet.

I know u don’t ship westallen, but what about them do u dislike? And would you ever consider shipping them?

Okay, so, I’ve watched the 5 seasons of The Flash on Netflix, and my issues with Westallen lie almost entirely with the careless treatment of Iris’ character. I’ve watched like 5 different versions of Harrison Wells, Cisco, Caitlyn, and literally everyone else on that show, even the villains, experience extensive character development, while Iris is relegated to Barry’s Love Interest and Emotional Support Bra. 

We have like, 2 seasons of Iris and Barry not together, and in all that time, we learn nothing about her that doesn’t directly relate to Barry in some way. She’s taking journalism classes, cool, but why? Is she still in school? Is she working at the Brew or whatever that coffee shop is called to pay her tuition? What school is she going to? What year is she in? Where are her friends??? Iris has NO FRIENDS that aren’t Barry. The closest she gets is kinda befriending the woman Barry dates for a while. What?! When Iris decides she wants to become a blogger, literally the only thing she writes about is the The Blur. Again, about Barry. It serves as a plot device to keep them connected. Then Iris decides to become a reporter, and she just suddenly gets a job at the local newspaper because her blog was popular. Then just as suddenly, she quits after going on a date we don’t see with her Black boss who was basically a dick to her. Iris’ only function is whatever Barry needs her to be, and I’m sorry that’s just not good enough for me. Not in 2019.  Also, another big part is the show never makes Barry actually make do on his promises. He keeps saying “I’d do anything for Iris”. But we never even see that. “I’d do anything for you”, but oops lemme jump into this speedforce prison right quick cuz...yeah. Sucks. Gotta go. Then the show doesn’t even allow Iris the character development of feeling abandoned? He did abandon her though. Every chance the show has for Barry to actually show how much he loves Iris, it’s undercut by something else that takes precedence. So it all just feels like lip service.When  Barry goes back in time, he does it for himself, because he couldn’t take losing his family, namely his mother, and fuck everyone else lol. It then becomes a game for him to try to get Iris to remember him or spend time with him. Which is...fucked.  There’s no build up to their relationship. It’s utterly ridiculous tbh. They introduce Joe’s partner as an obstacle to Westallen. Iris and dude, are together and they love each other and move in together and whatever. Fine. But then, ofc, introduce contrived circumstances where dies. Then, send Barry to different worlds and realities where he and Iris are married in each one of them. Lolk. But what makes it worse is that, he literally just comes back and says, “btw we were married on Earth 2.”  Then Iris says: “Wow I guess since you told me we were together on these different Earths, it kind seems like we’re just destined to be together. So...I guess we should be.” WHAT? Barry doesn’t earn his relationship with Iris. She literally just folds into it because the plot says so. Not even to mention that, Nora hurt Barry’s feefees and he picked his daughter up, sped her to her future and abandoned her there without even discussing the situation with his wife. And once again, we don’t eve let Iris be upset about it. We aren’t even a whole episode away from the incident before Eobard Thon is condescendingly lecturing her that if Iris doesn’t forgive him, Barry will leave her.  Ok, sir, first of all, Barry leaving is not the worst thing that could happen to Iris. She probably would end up being better off tbh but OKAY. Secondly, this all happened like FIVE MINUTES AGO. We can’t even let her be angry for an episode?!? lolk. 

The only way I could ship Westallen is if the totally overhauled Iris’ character and gave her a personality, character and her own fucking arc, as a character in her own right, and make Barry actually have to make do on his promise to do anything for her, and have Barry actually have to help Iris for fucking once. Have Barry actually be Iris’ emotional support. And tbh, to have them act like more than just roommates lmao. Their chemistry is trash, but Candice can barely look Grant in the eye. Having her say “babe” doesn’t make them more intimate. Everything about them is awful.
