You know what I can't stand about VtM?

Camarilla apologism.

The Camarilla are monsters with rules, and they will use those rules to justify slavery and exploitation and abuse and control and murder, for ever. And people tell me these are the good guys. They're absolutely not. The Beast is sitting down at table and wearing a pretty dress and her table manners are ever so lovely and her dinner conversation sparkles, but you're still getting eaten alive. And you have to love it. They have made you love it. Nothing in their rulebook says they can't.

I have never actually run a Camarilla game. Not properly. I think it's because that level of authoritarianism makes me urge. It's weird, because I love Dark Ages Vampire with all my soul and those are the same rules, but Dark Ages Vampire doesn't have the "default sect" phenomenon, the expectation that you the players are going to be aligned with this side and therefore that's the right side because you the players are on it.

Woobifying the Sabbat and apologising for the Camarilla makes the real default protagonists of V1 - the Anarchs - even more toothless than they already are, burdened by their writers' failure to imagine a way out of the status quo (not blaming them for that, progressive politics are hard and it's only a bloody game, innit?). And as the game drifted more and more into Camarilla-as-default-vs-Sabbat-the-Anarchs-are-also-there... I don't know where I'm going with this, I was just confronted by the monstrosity of the Camarilla before I'd even had a cup of tea this morning and it's great horror but don't ever tell me they're the good ones. Don't you dare.

Days 7 - 8 - 9 | Rage Against The Machine - Rivals - Eyes of a Monster

You know how when your sibling just really pisses you off? 🎭🎭🎭

Cassie Quicker and Victor Collins (@syntheticmortal) were Embraced by the same man for the same reasons but they really disagree on basically every other aspect of their purpose as Maxwellian Childer. One is a devoted Scourge, fiercely loyal to her Prince, Sheriff, and Primogen. She hunts the malcontents of her Domain like she was born for it, as if nothing could bring her as much joy as the sight of her doomed prey attempting to flee... Nothing except, of course, the smirk and subtle nods of her superiors.

The other is an Anarch enforcer and assassin. A man who protects his close kin (regardless of Clan) with the military lethality he learnt serving in MACV-SOG, now tempered with a strong code of ethics rekindled in him several years after his embrace. Powered by anger and laser-focused, he expresses his overwhelming love for his own with the violence he inflicts on their enemies.

Luckily for one little Lamb, the watchdog would arrive just in time. Despite Cassie's superior speed and legendary ferocity, Victor's equally famous determination would indeed hold up the Huntress.

Though our gallant Anarch would end up in Torpor by the end of the brawl, this extremely lucky Thin Blood would escape from the Lansing Princedom into the waiting arms of a the Barony of Grand Rapids - with nary a scratch.

VtM Clans Dating Headcanons

Because i’m full in Vampire: The Masquerade, i’m doing these headcanons based on the source book Camarilla V5, where a Toreador gives you tips on getting into romance with the stereotype of some clans. Feel free to add other headcanons or clans if you like!

*English is not my mother tongue so sorry for any mistakes or weird phrasing.

VENTRUE

Very good companions if you’re a young kindred and starting a career in the Camarilla.

They’re powerful, reliable and rich, expect a lot of gifts.

You can’t be boring if you want to get a Ventrue, be flightly, passionate, temperamental, make them feel anything to keep them interested.

Most likely to use you as a trophy or showcase partner tho.

If they get bore, you’ll just be another of their servants.

TOREADOR

Most likely to be your sire, embraced you out of a infatuation.

And... most likely to get bore of you in the end if you dont keep up.

Surely they’ll be beautiful and charismatic.

You’ll be their muse

Expect art dates and getting a good amount of juicy info about othe kindred.

Will ask for attention in subtly ways.

TREMERE

Boring at first glance, will act as if they dont care and then will surprise you with particular moments of attention.

Gets freaky in bed, experiments a lot on that field.

Remembers everything about you.

Worth the romance to get a glance at their libraries of vitae.

MALKAVIAN

Most likely to break your heart.

Easy to manipulate if you know their weakness.

They say you loose your mind if you drink their vitae, is it true? no matter it’s kinda exciting anyway.

Will be more open to experimentation in bed too.

Unpredictible, will say or do some crazy shit if you put them under pressure.

Expect some profecies out of the blue.

NOSFERATU

Honest and grateful for your love and attention.

Looks at you in awe.

Insecure and most likely to be jealous.

You’ll get your hands on some juicy information.

The most romantic clan second to Toreador.

Easy to manipulate if you've got a pretty face or you’re a good actor.

GANGREL

Cold at first but if you get to their hearts, they’ll cherish you a lot.

Jealous and possesive, will fight anyone that disrespects you.

Dates on tiny cabins in the woods, maybe naughty activities in the wild.

BRUJAH

They like to be direct and honest, they’ll confess to you and wont beat around the bush.

Most likely to talk your ear off.

Passionate and emotional, will be the most human like relationship out of the other clans.

BANU HAQIM

Passionate and obssesive, they will try to court you desperatly so you should act hard to get for fun.

Very serious about your relationship, commitment is very important to them.

Will kill for you, mostly out of jelousy.

Makes you feel desired, wanted. You’re always present in their mind.

TZIMICE

You’re in for some serious crazy shit

Most likely to resculpt you and make you some dragonborn appearance kinda shit.

Expect some weird things behind those pants too.

Top energy

They have a strange personality, very attention seeker but will cherish you regardless.

If you behave, maybe they’ll teach you vicissitude so you can scuplt some vessels together.

VTM character concepts that I am compelled to share: 2024 edition!

Happy New Year, all! With the turning of the clock I’ve had a rush of creativity, and that means new kindred concepts! Per usual, please feel free to use any of these ideas in your VTM chronicles as NPCs or PCs, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you want to talk about The World of Darkness! With that said, let’s get rolling:

1. A real-life “Final Girl” ( I use the term in a gender-neutral sense here) who survived a masked serial killer. They managed to get past the experience and even published a bestselling book talking about their experience. Unfortunately, they also attracted the attention of their sire in the process. I’m thinking Gangrel, Banu Haquim, or Lasombra here due to the whole survival and justice aspects, but any clan could easily be slotted in.

2. A Ravnos travel influencer who uses their bane as an excuse to explore the world and make money. Hey, if unlife gives you lemons, right?

3. A member of an underground boxing ring who was embraced by the Tremere to help train some younger members of the clan in hand-to-hand combat. They could already kick your ass six ways to Sunday before, but now they have blood magic! Well, if they can just manage to learn Latin, Ancient Greek, Arabic, Romanian…

4. Someone who got drunk (in more ways than one) and woke up with a wedding ring on their finger, a fresh set of fangs, and no idea who their partner and sire is or where they went.

5. A Salubri with a strong talent for healing both medically and with their disciplines. Due to their usefulness, the Prince has made it so they are not to be harmed. However, they are heavily monitored, have been subjected to a blood bond, and often feel more like a treasured pet than a person.

6. A Malkavian with a cherished locket that plays music when opened. They believe that it must be opened every hour each evening at the same time or something awful will happen.

Session zero completed for Vampire: The Masquerade, and the coterie is different than I had expected in terms of clan memberships. Exciting stuff! My group now have time to review the rules and their choices ahead of preludes and chronicle start to determine what changes, if any, they want to make.
