I want to know about Confrontation!

that one is the first fic i started writing about these guys:

my intention was to explain how tobias and cam first started their romantic/sexual relationship, and i actually did get into the beginning of the sex but then got distracted by other things, as my adhd self is wont to do

it's from tobias's pov, explaining how he's felt like things have been different with cam lately:

It’s impossible to deny that things have felt different for a while. Of course, that’s just what happens when children become adults; Tobias knew it was coming, one way or another. He just wasn’t expecting the way things have shifted—the way the air around Cameron has become electric, like he’s full to bursting with a sort of energy he’s never had before. Deacon feels subdued by comparison; he’s more mature, now, effortlessly engaging in adult topics and learning a sort of precise control over his emotions. Tobias is incredibly proud of them both for coming as far as they have, but... It’s still strange, with Cameron specifically. Looking back, he supposes it began when Cameron started going to college, which makes some amount of sense. His parents have always been overbearing, and any amount of freedom would be expected to change him. They’ve never liked Tobias or Deacon—efforts to coordinate their sons hanging out were usually in vain—and on top of being resistant to Cameron’s most important non-familial relationships, they’re also, at best, dismissive of the trans thing. A perfect cocktail of underlying resentment that will surely lose them contact with Cameron as soon as he doesn’t rely on them at all anymore. (As Tobias understands it, they're still paying for his schooling.) Living in the campus dorms, Cameron surely feels liberated; he's mentioned in passing how hard it was to get his folks to agree to let him move out in any capacity. He also spends a lot more time here, at the Rivera household, than he was ever able to before. It’s nice seeing him so enthusiastic about life and having fun. It’s nice that he clearly feels safe here. It’s nice that he’s blossoming into a young man. And it’s weird how different his presence feels now, but frustratingly, it’s hard to quantify how or why.

things take a turn after deacon's 21st birthday; tobias takes him out drinking and it goes well. he's been trying to model a healthy relationship with alcohol for his son, but when deacon seems to have taken that lesson to heart, tobias slips up a bit because it's not an active concern anymore. (he's long-divorced and depressed; he's done everything to be a good father, not only for deacon but for cameron as well, but the man is Sad.)

anyway while drunk he manages to wind up looking at porn and that rabbit-hole eventually leads him to cam's, uh, camshow. whoops! he's so worried his son's best friend is like having money troubles or something that he doesn't stop to think about what he's doing until he's watching. then, uh, well, this isn't doing anything but making him feel like a creep.

naturally deacon is at work the next day and naturally cam comes over for a visit. tobias decides making sure cam is safe is more important than hiding his shame.

“So, what, you’re gonna tell me to stop?” Cameron spits, and the words and venom with which they’re said makes Tobias look at him again, stunned. The way Cameron is positioned now, hugging his legs almost defensively with something deeply betrayed in his eyes, Tobias fears for the worst. ...then it clicks. This isn’t about the sexual nature of it, Tobias seeing him in such a state. It’s about control. It’s about how his parents would lose their minds and demand he cease immediately; how they’ve always dictated everything he can and can’t do. Maybe that’s what the sex work itself is about, too. Freedom. “...That’s not why I brought it up,” Tobias says softly, and Cameron seems to relax just a bit. “I’m just worried, Cam. I don’t like the idea of you being backed into a situation like this out of necessity.” He continues before Cameron can speak up again, clearly poised to do so; “But if that’s not what this is, then... it’s none of my business. If it’s what you want to be doing, then that’s your decision.”  Cameron watches him a moment longer, and then the tension starts to bleed out of him, replaced instead with what looks like guilt as he curls in on himself. “...God, Toby, I’m sorry,” he murmurs, looking away. “You’ve always supported me. I shouldn’t have gotten mad...” “It’s okay,” Tobias assures, pushing past his own conflicting feelings to reach out and gently set a hand on Cameron’s upper back. “I know how your parents are. I should have chosen my words more carefully.” He smiles when Cameron looks over at him again, adding, “Just be safe, okay?”

but tobias makes a mistake as cam opens up a little more about it; he indicates that he actually was in the stream, not that he just realized it was happening. and cam, who's been hot for toby for ages, seizes the opportunity. he's actually a crafty little bastard under the cute surface.

so, you know, mutual attraction (despite tobias's insistence that he's too old for cam) leads to sex. but tragically i moved on right when it was getting good 😔 i gotta go back to it.

Adding onto the last anon I think people also overlook a lot of things John did and I don't mean it in a I hate the guy and think everyone should do too, quite the opposite but c'mon we have accounts of him specifically pointed out laughing at Ratty's homophobic jokes, of that weird ass answer in the interview about being gay not being natural in the 80s. It's weird to pretend his choices are not his own.

And I genuinely don't think he was a raging bigot to anyone really and he did love Freddie. I do think his views have shifted and I don't know anything about the man especially now but basing this on what his son said that when he came out to his parents, his dad was fine with it from the start but his mom took a few years to come around the fact that her son was into men.

Yeah…I don’t think John treated Freddie or his partners badly—and Jim even said he liked John a lot—but I always wondered if Freddie felt a certain type of way hearing him laugh at those jokes, the jokes he told off Ratty for telling in the first place. And that 80s interview just isn’t right. It isn’t. I wonder, too, if Freddie saw that interview or knew he felt that way about his relationships. It’s uncomfortable, and I think Freddie engaged in a lot of compartmentalization when it came to how many straight people around him viewed homosexuality because he didn’t want to confront them and lose them in his life (maybe John, the roadies, Mary, his parents…).

But if his son said John accepted him when he came out, then that definitely does count for something. I haven’t seen exactly what he (I’m assuming this is Cameron?) said, but John has been out of the public eye for decades, so it’s not inconceivable to think his attitudes changed.

I honestly thought blunt force trauma would be the highest when I first listed these. I was wrong!

I know (MAJOR PLVPW SPOILERS) that no one in PLVPW actually died except Newton Belduke, but I still felt as though it was prudent to list them here as victims.

Tasing is a form of electrocution.

Technically, falling and getting crushed could both be forms of blunt force trauma, but “blunt force trauma” is more “something hits you” than “you hit something” imo? I think it’s a distinction worth making.

There are a lot fewer poisonings than I thought. I didn’t know whether to put Diego’s poisoning under Memories or Beginnings, so I put both.

Simon Keyes was pretty inventive tbh

English Turnabout is the only case in PLVPW with a proper name. I generally ID the chapters with court segments as the ones that are the “case names”, which works for every case but the last.

I might have missed some? I know for sure I missed the original Di-Jun Huang, but I couldn’t find his cause of death poking around the wiki. Let me know if I missed any more!

I think Freddie, like a lot of gay men, knew he lived in a world where a lot of people might not condemn what you’re doing, but don’t necessarily think it’s right (e.g. John and his views on homosexuality). That 80s interview John did is awful. Who knows, maybe his wife played a part in that, but life is funny because his own son identifies as gay. I wonder if he’d say those words to his own son now. I would hope not, and would think he has changed his mind on that. (Part 1)

(Part 2) Idk what Freddie’s thoughts would have been if he’d read John’s interview. I don’t think he would have liked it, but I think that Freddie was the type of person who didn’t allow others opinions affect him too much. We gotta live our lives knowing friends/family can disappoint us and still be good people. Obama spoke about this once. “No one, including you, is all good or all bad. The world is messy; there are ambiguities... people who do really good stuff have flaws”.”

Two things.

1.) “That 80s interview John did is awful. Who knows, maybe his wife played a part in that.” Why? We know next to nothing about this woman. There’s no reason to think a woman is responsible for a grown man’s prejudice. Apparently, John accepted Cameron while Veronica was concerned about his well-being when he came out, but that’s not the same as her rejecting him. Maybe John had a shitty opinion all on his own.

2.) There are people who are all bad, actually lol. There’s no one who is all good, but there are irredeemable pieces of shit. Barack Obama is an extremely skilled politician and public speaker and knows you can’t just say that and get elected (hello, Hillary Clinton correctly calling Trump voters “deplorable” and then facing screaming and crying and throwing up over it), but that doesn’t mean there aren’t bad people lol. John Deacon is not one of those people. I don’t think he’s a bad person, nor have I implied that with my mild criticism of him, but we don’t have to downplay homophobia with a random quote from Obama, either. I think Freddie knew John wasn’t a bad person despite his lack of understanding towards him and his relationships, but I think the constant heterosexuality and homophobia Freddie was surrounded by in his life is part of why he desperately dove into gay clubs, to be around people who didn’t judge him or (intentionally or not) hurt him with ignorance.

What if the Dead Poets Played Instruments?

just some of my personal thoughts! *contains modern songs and artists*

Neil Perry:

• It’s no surprise that Neal would reach for the stars with his instrument of choice, what better thing to choose than an electric guitar?

• He admires the way famous rockstars can find ways to make simple melodies their own style. Naturally, he craved that sense of freedom, too.

• Despite messing up copious times, and following those with loud groans or curses under his breath, Todd would find it rather amusing. A half-grin tugging at his lips.

• He would take inspiration from Metallica and Queen with their more popular songs.

Todd Anderson:

• Todd is more on the gentle melody side of things. Enjoying things like piano, or gentle orchestra compositions, but what Todd really confides in is the gentle, contemporary creations the world has to offer.

• He would definitely get his hands on a ukulele he found at a thrift shop. Loving the free-spirited carve job done by the owner before. He would play it whenever he felt he needed to.

• Something tells me he could also learn by ear when knowing the ways around a ukulele. He would be rather impressive with his small instrument.

• His inspiration to create and learn would be thanks to the abstract work of Cosmo Sheldrake, or the impactful job of Cody Fry.

Steven Meeks:

• Meeks would have to be more adventurous with his choices before finally deciding on one. Living off of his motto of “trying anything once.”

• His final decision, or one of his tops, if he couldn’t pick one, would be the classic acoustic guitar. He loved how he could choose between the moods of songs simply by combination of chords or how hard he strummed the guitar, or even picking at the strings.

• He often practices during the evenings. After he finishes dinner, and needs a break from the world, he’ll scurry to his room to just play or practice whatever his mind brings him to. He likes the peace it creates in the air.

• His main source for inspiration either comes from Hozier or Elvis Presley, if he’s feeling bold (yes, he’s tried the moves before and failed miserably).

Gerard Pitts:

• Following his little talent of the jaw harp, he found another talent in the harmonica.

• Comical? In a sense, but impressive nonetheless. He can use it to lift the mood in the meetings, or even just annoy people around him. He loves the power he has with it, even if he takes advantage of it.

• He’s definitely gotten it smacked out of his hands/mouth before by Charlie.

• Definitely got the inspiration to play it just because of Billy Joel’s “Piano Man.”

Charlie Dalton:

• With his sonorous saxophone, he wanted something to contrast. Something he could use to exalt all his energy and really get into something exciting.

• Of course, he chose the drums.

• A little harder to practice, he always finds a way. Tapping his hands on a table, his legs, and wreaking havoc in a little music store on the weekends. Though, the shopkeepers appreciate his dedication.

• His main inspiration would probably come from Josh Dun from twenty øne piløts or Lars Ulrich from Metallica (yes him and Neal have a similar music interest- it just makes sense).

Knox Overstreet:

• Knox doesn’t mind listening to music, but to play wouldn’t be his top interest. He would probably go for something more lowkey, but effective. He’d choose the bass. Classic four-stringed.

• He likes that bass is the foundation of all songs. Allowing the melodic layers to play on top of it; but a good song isn’t a good song without all the parts of one.

• When he gets into it, he probably learns a new riff every week. Being able to pick notes and rhythms up and effortlessly pluck the thick strings.

• His inspiration would come from John Deacon from Queen.

Richard Cameron:

• Being the proper young man he is, he has to have a proper, classic instrument. The piano.

• He first started learning it as a boy. Being put in it as a young boy, it was always had it as a more discreet talent. He still pursues it as a summer extracurricular.

• Taking Keating’s teachings, he learns to subtly display fun and energy in his free playing. Learning more modern songs rather than difficult, pristine classics like Mozart or Beethoven.

• His inspiration, oddly enough, would come from the energetic work of Elton John.

Have you had any updates on John over the past year?

Nope, I'm sorry. I don't think anyone has, really, but I believe it's safe assumption that he is alive and hopefully well. I saw that Cameron uploaded a livestream on YouTube a while ago after a long hiatus, I watched a bit out of curiosity and he briefly mentioned he had a family gathering so I assume everything's going by as usual for the Deacons.

I seen a screenshot from your blog that I feel is a bit unfair and almost resentful towards me. Listen, I think you have every right to say what you want about me. Call me names, talk behind my back, hate me all you want. But I want to respond. I think even someone widely considered “a bad person” should at least try to defend themselves.

I don’t want to share a sob story, but I am more used to people being mean then kind to me. I don’t think anything you can say to me or call me would be new. I have been called stupid, ugly, annoying for pretty much my whole life. This includes everyone from school mates to members of my own family. Did this cause me pain? Yes, and it’s taken me time but I am used to it. I really don’t want to let people on the internet hurt my feelings. Here’s the thing tho, I genuinely considered you my friend and really enjoyed talking to you. I think your art is adorable. I think that’s why I feel so hurt tbh. We have drifted away, and that’s fine. If a friendship, even an online one ends over diffidence of opinion over the nature over the marriage of some old rich white dude then so be it. But I will not let you mock me on your blog without at responding. Keep that post up, I don’t care if you remove it or not but I think I can at least respond to it. This is my one request so I can get this off my chest

I never said that anecdote is false. I just think like so many online anecdotes it needs scrutiny, a source and cannot be taken as fact. I don’t just do this for Veronica, I do this for everything. The reason I was skeptical was I was always led to believe Veronica was still in school but working as a nanny and never got to teach. My religion is agnosticism and my overall philosophy is “question everything, don’t be afraid to say ‘I don’t know’ what we want to be true isn’t always the truth, complete honesty and an avoidance of bias. I have, and probably always will ask questions. Not just about John Deacon, but anything I am curious about. It’s simply my nature, and the more unsure I am about something the more I question it. Yes, it’s annoying but also understand that I annoyed my parents, my teachers, my professors and even people at work.

I got hooked on Queen some years ago after watching a BBC documentary on Queen and becoming enamored. The movie greatly disappointed me and even some what angered me (honestly I think it’s one of the more homophobic films I’ve seen). So I turned to the internet to feed my hunger. John particularly fascinated me as I thought he was dead originally but wondered “where was he”? I even related to him a lot as I am quite shy and quiet irl. John also frustrated me as there was so much not known about him. Back in the day, I was a HUGE johnica stan. Surely if John and Veronica had so many kids they were very much in love, and the narrative of John living happily ever after was appealing to me. Plus his son seemed nice enough. Cameron was who lead me to tumblr, and who led me from my Johnnica fantasies. Cameron made me view John Deacon as not just a person, but also a flawed person. I learned more and more about him and I started to think maybe John and his family are different than how I imagined. I was really forced to start being honest about what I really knew about John. I wish I can elaborate more as I can’t describe it but something about the whole Cameron and the Camily incident made me see John more human? Like more complex, and more like an everyday person and less of this caricature obsessed with cheese and impregnating his wife? I don’t have anything against John. I don’t have anything against Veronica. I am not some villain from a Carebears cartoon who hates love. I just feel so much about John is from fan assumptions and imagination. Hear me out:

Something I want to make clear is I have nothing against writing fan fic or fan art or what ever about real life people. I believe strongly in freedom of expression and no one should dictate what art is acceptable and what isn’t. You got mad at me when I opposed you encouraging your followers to report a “fan fic” casting Veronica in a bad light. Is it because I have a personal vendetta against her? Or maybe I strongly believe that if one is allowed to fantasize about the marriage of two British boomers writing countless fics about them conceiving their real life children, then you have to tolerate (not accept, but tolerate) different views. I am sorry, but fair is fair. Is it because I hate Veronica? Or is it maybe because I don’t think she would like art depicting her sexuality but accept that authors have every right to express themselves, but can’t dictate what others create. I don’t like double standards. Not to mention, not one of us can say what she would think or feel about it all. Remember, she’s not some fictional character! This pisses you off but I still think my statement is true, but we don’t know her as a person. So much we “know” about her is fan speculation and projection. Am I saying she’s a bad person? No. Am I saying she’s mean? No. What I am saying is we have to be honest about what is fan creation. Just because you’re popular doesn’t mean your opinion is true and anyone who even expressed skepticism is both a bad person and hates Veronica or even thinks she’s a bad person.

I just think she’s an individual whom has had only a few paragraphs written about her. If she wants to keep her life private, that’s her right. Same for John. He famously hasn’t spoken to the public for decades and that’s fine! Maybe he and Veronica are the couple from “When I’m 64”. I love to think that! But maybe it’s different. And it’s not my business and there’s alone. So, that’s all I have for now. Since I have been interested in Queen my life has changed. New responsibilities, work changes, life changes the whole lot. I have less time to spend online and even less time to bother with silly internet drama. Am I hurt? Yes, I felt like someone punched me in the gut, and is never easy to see someone you once really liked and considered you a friend insult you. I’m upset. But I feel 1) This won’t matter ten years from now and 2) if someone who has always been sweet and kind suddenly turns nasty over a ship isn’t really your friend. I have seen people with opposing ships still me friends. I have some really wholesome memories from lurking on X-men forums involving fans being friends despite arguing over who should be smashing who. I never took shipping seriously and probably never will. John Deacon and his marriage is not very important to my day to day life. I remember feeling sick and distressed for days when I learned of his affair with Pushbar the lap dancer. But you know what? The sun still rose that morning, the birds still sang and I ice cream still tasted good. And I am sure you will continue to hate me and talk about me to other Queen fans but I will never leave the Queen fandom. I won’t let some middle school drama ruin something I really enjoy.

Accuse me of causing drama or being a bully or whatever but I tried to explain myself. I am willing to talk in private with anyone with questions, comments and concerns but understand I have a very busy work week with limited internet access and other stuff offline.
