Camilo trying not to be a perv prompt
18 year old camilo and female reader do their daily best friend hang outs at the river all alone. What was once a sit and talk moment now becomes a throwing water fight.
After a bit of fun, camilo turns to find the readers dress soaking wet, noticing how clear the white top has gotten. His face goes super red as he falls backwards into the water with a loud yelp.
Of course, the reader didn’t notice how see through your clothes had gotten so she tried to help him out of the water. Instead, camilo rushes backwards to the other side of the river, panting and trying to explain what happens to her clothes.
When he finally managed to spit out the words as he looked away, glancing at her with still a red face here and there.
“What?! Camilo, you pervert!!” She yells out, covering her chest in embarrassment.
“I tried to tell you!!” He yells out.
After a bit of yelling at each other, camilo stumbles his way back through the river to the reader and gently puts his ruana over her to keep her covered.
“Just…give it back tomorrow…” he mumbles, walking her back home.

Leo would hate Encanto. He'd be confused on how Bruno and Mirabel could forgive Abuela and Pepa so easily. They made Bruno feel like shit to the point of running away and hiding for ten years because of his power. You think Leo would care about Abuelas story? Hell nah. He'd be cursing her out the entire movie. And Pepa? Started a whole song about how "terrible" Bruno is for "ruining her wedding"! And then hugs him when she sees him again! Leo would be pissed and cursing her out too cause how dare she act like she cares after that song?! Anyway just a thought!

AU idea for Encanto
Their faults, our fates AU
outline
Camilo,Mirabel(10 yrs) and Antonio (baby) are kidnapped to exploit their gifts (mirabel has one here related to the truth, like a lie detector, more details about it here).
No one knows who the kidnappers are, as they aren't part of the encanto. Pepa and Julieta go insane trying to find their kids, with their powers (or lack of, since Julieta stops cooking) effecting the town.
Bruno never disappeared since mirabel has a gift. But some people still hate him (even though it's gotten better,THANK MIRABEL). He's extremely close to his nieces and nephews, especially Mirabel. So the kidnapping effected him too.
Meanwhile the kidnappers mostly abuse the two eldest cousins especially camilo (as he stands against them especially when they try to hurt his familia) and leaves him mentally and physically abused also selectively mute (more details later). Mirabel is treated better due to her gift (which camilo secretly resents) but is still abused and the only reason Antonio isn't as abused as them is that the kidnappers have enough sense to keep him alive till he gets his gift and try to basically bend him to their will (more details about how that turned out later(P.S it thankfully failed but had repercussions)).
All of the trios personality changes (mostly Camilo and Antonio) in mostly bad ways. ABUSE IS NEVER OK.
They are forced to act as a normal family with their abusers in their new village to not arouse suspicion, the town soon truly adore the madrigal cousins but the adults dislike and are suspicious of their "parents". After three years, they finally leave their abusive lifestyle with the help of the village. They live peacefully for the next two years but hide their powers or true identities in fear of the village hating them (something the abusers implanted into their mind).
Meanwhile the madrigal family still know that the trio are alive but have searched everywhere except Alma's old village which they believe to be in ruins, also you know trauma. However the day Antonio gets a gift a new door appears just when they were about to give up. The door showed animals native to Columbia (yes I searched it up a bit, might have gotten some things wrong though) and renews hope that they still live nearby (as the encanto rainforest has those kind of animals).
This leads Alma to finally push past her trauma and search the area of her home where they find a small village with someone looking incredibly like mirabel...
This AU is named :- Their faults, our fate AU
will elaborate on the details of this Au soon, ask questions if you're interested or confused.

Can you write mirabel or isabella comforting the reader through a panic attack?
The Brightest Star - Mirabel Madrigal x fem reader
Tumblr media
First of all thanks for the request, anon. Hope I got it the way you wanted.
summary: The dinner with your girlfriend and your parents doesn't work out the way you would have wanted it to.
warnings: panic attack, homophobia
word count: 1.767
Author's note: Feel free to check out my Masterlists and make requests. No reposting please! Reblogging, comments and requests are always appreciated <3 If you like the story/my writing, please don't be shy to say it via comments or asks! It takes you a few seconds and might make my day. It's the best appreciation you can show to a writer you like.
----------
“I still don't think this is a good idea”, I voiced my concern.
“Your parents already know we're in a relationship. I really want to meet them”, Mirabel countered.
“Just because they know doesn't mean they approve. The only reason they haven't disowned me is that you're a Madrigal”, I assumed.
“Okay. Let's make a deal. Since you got to meet my whole chaotic family with all it's issues especially toward me, I get to meet your family as well. One dinner. If it doesn't work out, I will never bother you with it again”, she suggested.
“Fine”, I agreed with a defeated sigh. “But don't blame me if it turns out horrific.”
“Can't imagine the people who raised such an incredible girl to be awful”, she noted and I took her hand with a smile as we continued walking through town.
My mind was already bombarding me with all the worst-case-scenarios of the upcoming dinner.
First I would have to ask my parents which was bad enough. But the imagination of sitting with them through a whole meal … I had no idea how to survive this.
Most likely Mirabel would be the answer. She usually was. There was a reason why I was spending basically all my time either with her or her family who was way more supporting than mine.
How could I not compare her family to mine and yearn to marry into hers?
“Hey, it's going to be alright”, Mirabel snapped me out of my anxious thoughts. “I'll be with you all the way. We can still escape to my house at anytime, okay?”
I nodded with a hesitant smile. My thoughts however were centered around the dinner for the rest of the day.
When I returned home after a great evening at Casita, the silence hit me like a rock.
The Madrigal's were so loud and lively that it often drowned out my doubts. They had immediately integrated me and made me feel at home.
I wanted the same for Mirabel. She deserved only the best in my eyes. But I knew I could not offer her what she wished for.
“Mom?”, I called out silently.
My dad was usually asleep at this time, but mom liked staying up late.
“I'm in the living room”, she replied quietly.
I made my way over to her and tried to gather the courage to talk with her about the dinner.
“What's up, dear? Is everything alright?”, she wondered.
My parents were absolutely toxic. On the one hand they were loving and supporting. But on the other hand they made me feel worthless whenever I did not meet their expectations. I had wished more than once that they could just decide if they wanted to love or hate me. That would make it easier.
“Mirabel would like to come over for dinner sometime.” I uttered the words before I could change my mind.
“Oh … yeah, of course she can come over. How about tomorrow?”, she questioned.
I could not interpret her tone. It did not sound disgusted or disapproving, just kind of neutral if that was possible.
“Yeah, tomorrow sounds fine”, I agreed surprised.
I had not expected this conversation to be so easy. Maybe Mirabel was right and it was time. There was a slight chance that I could help them understand why I loved Mirabel when they met her. Who could not love her?
On the next morning I went over to Casita to tell Mirabel the news.
Casita opened the doors for me when I arrived and I was immediately welcomed by loud chaos.
“Hey, (f/n)”, Camilo greeted me while running from an angry looking Isabela.
“Hey”, I greeted him back laughing.
“Good morning, (f/n). Had any breakfast yet?”, Julieta inquired.
“Um … no. But it's fine”, I brushed it off.
Julieta simply smiled at me and handed me an Arepa.
“Thanks”, I shot back with a grateful and slightly abashed smile. “Do you know where Mirabel is?”
“In the kitchen”, she informed me.
I thanked her again before heading in the said direction.
Mirabel appeared to be busy mixing several ingredients together.
“Hey, Mira”, I greeted her with a peck to her cheek. “What are you doing?”
“Experimenting with different dips for the Arepas. Wanna try?”
Of course I did. Some were delicious, while others were more than questionable.
“Mom invited us over for dinner today”, I proposed.
“Seriously? How did it go?”, she asked me excited.
“Pretty well, I guess. But that can change quickly”, I reminded both of us.
“Which dip do you like the most? We can make more of it and bring it as a guest present. Well … I can bring it as a guest present”, Mirabel considered.
“How can you be so optimistic?”
“I need the positive energy for both of us in this matter, right? So I will deliver it”, she declared confidently.
Mirabel was bright and happy, standing up to face every obstacle in her way with a smile. I still could not understand how she had ended up with me out of all people. But I was definitely grateful for it, no matter what my parents thought about it.
Mirabel and I improved the recipe and prepared the dip, putting it in the fridge.
Then she tried to distract me, which partly worked. But my anxiety was always there.
“I'm here. You're not dealing with anything alone”, Mirabel reassured me on the way to my house.
One of her hands was holding mine, while the other carried the dip.
“Good evening. It's nice to finally meet you”, mom welcomed us at the front door.
It was strange honestly. Like I was visiting my parents after moving out, although I was only sixteen.
“Good evening. I've really been looking forward to this dinner. I tried out a new dip recipe and thought maybe you would like to try it”, Mirabel explained and handed my mom the box.
“Thank you”, mom replied with a smile.
It was extremely polite. Nothing compared to my time with the Madrigal's who had not attempted to impress me and had done it anyway.
But so far it could be worse.
To my surprise it was great for a while. My parents asked questions about Mirabel's family which my girlfriend happily answered.
“You raised a great daughter by the way. My family loves her almost as much as I do”, Mirabel proclaimed casually, placing her hand on mine.
Her gesture made me smile. Until I noticed the look on my parents' faces.
“We thought that as well. But it seems we made a big mistake at some part of her life. I wish we just knew what it was”, dad alluded while eyeing Mirabel's and my hand.
“I'm still not sure if we ruined her or if it's just in her nature”, my mom added.
Mirabel was obviously shocked at their statements.
“Don't worry. It's in my nature. Nothing anyone could or could have changed”, I hissed.
“So we're the ones to blame after all if it's in your genetics. I can't believe we passed on such a flaw”, my mom remarked.
“It's not a flaw”, Mirabel interjected.
But before she could continue, my mom started talking again: “Sorry if we upset you, dear. We're not judging you or your sexuality. It's none of our business what you do with your life. We just don't want our daughter to be a dyke.”
“I think we should go”, Mirabel announced, squeezing my hand.
“What? Why? Please stay a little longer”, my mom requested.
“(f/n) doesn't deserve the way you're treating her. Come on! Let's go!”, my girlfriend encouraged me and helped me stand up.
My dad's hand wrapped around my wrist. “You're free to go whenever you want, but our daughter stays”, he demanded.
“Are you sure you want to oppose my family?”, Mirabel threatened him.
Reluctantly he let go.
Mirabel quickly led me to the border of the town to get somewhere quiet.
“Hey, are you okay?”, she worried.
Her voice sounded muffled to me due to the ringing sound in my ears.
It felt like I could barely breathe and at the same time like my heart was about to jump out of my chest.
I desperately wanted to get out of this state.
My fingernails buried themselves in my hand. But even the slight pain did not help.
“(f/n), I think you're having a panic attack.”
It was difficult to process her words.
“Let's remove your shoes, okay?”
She helped me out of my shoes.
I could feel the soft grass against my feet. It actually did have a calming effect.
“What did we do on our first date?”, she asked me.
I stayed silent. Speaking seemed impossible right now. I could not grasp a clear thought.
“You can do it, (f/n). What did we do on our first date?”, she repeated.
“We went hiking”, I recalled panting.
“Exactly. What else?”
“We had a picnic on top of the mountain. The landscape was stunning, but I could barely take my eyes off of you. We stayed there until the stars appeared and shared our first kiss.”
“Yes, we did”, Mirabel confirmed with a smile. “Now again. What did we do on our first date?”
“But I just told you”, I protested still out of breath.
“Just do it.”
“We went hiking. We had a picnic on top of the mountain. The landscape was stunning, but I only had eyes for you. We shared our first kiss under the stars.”
“Again.”
I had to repeat the story several times before Mirabel finally allowed me to stop.
“Feeling better?”, she wondered.
“Actually I do. Thanks. But how did you know how to react?”
“My sisters had their fair share of panic attacks before. Your parents aren't the only ones with high expectations”, she enlightened me. “But you were right. Maybe we shouldn't have had that dinner.”
“No, it's fine. I feel a sense of freedom now that it's over. Thanks for supporting me, Mira.”
She pulled me into a tight hug making me feel loved after this horrible family incident.
We spent the rest of the evening cuddling on the grass and waiting for the stars to shine again.

Reversed rolls.
Summary; We all saw how Camilo calmed his mother in the movie, now imagine that being normal, imagine Camilo telling Pepa that all would be okay. But, one natural rainy day, Pepa enters her son's room and catches him crying. Then, for once, the rolls are reversed.
The rain smashed against the windows.
Pepa did not like the rain, but this time, it wasn't because of her, it was natural. And Pepa couldn't control that, only her own weather, but even that controlled her sometimes.
”Woah, that's a lot of rain. I wonder if we can even go out tomorrow.” said Julieta, she took a sip of her coffee. ”At this rate it might start thundering.”
She sat down next to her sister, and pushed over a plate of arepas.
”Yeah, usually watching rain that's not caused by me is relaxing. But this time it's really violent. Ay, let's keep our hopes up,” said Pepa. ”And this time it's not even my fault.”
Pepa took an arepa and ate it.
”It's very loud..." mumbled Dolores, she covered her ears and winced.
She put her hand on her daughter's shoulder, and kissed her lovingly on the cheek.
”Lo siento, mi amor.”
Félix was sitting next to Dolores on the other side, and was helping her cover her ears, being gentle with her.
”Hey, it's fine, I'll manage,” mumbled Dolores. ”Focus on something else, like Camilo, I haven't seen him in a while. Sadly I don't know where he is, but he might be in his room.”
”You can't hear?” asked Pepa worriedly.
”No, the rain's too loud... I can't hear anything else...” explained Dolores quietly. ”But I'm fine... Worry about Camilo instead...”
Pepa drank up her coffee, and took another arepa, before grabbing the plate and standing.
”I'll go see where he is, and get him some arepas. Then I'll help you up to your room, so you can rest, okay, Lola?”
She kissed her daughter on the forehead before leaving.
She walked up the stairs, and went over to her son's room, opening the door.
”Hijo-”
What she saw shocked her.
Camilo was there- Crying, crouching, small sobs leaving his trembling lips- He was shaking, and mercilessly pulling his strands- And then he noticed her, he wiped his tears.
”Mami-”, he let go off his hair. ”I'm fine- Lo siento. Just... Forget about it- I-is something wrong?”
She walked over to Camilo and sat down next to him on the floor, and put down the plate.
”I'm fine- But your clearly not, what's wrong, Milo?” asked Pepa worriedly. ”I wanna help you- Like you've always helped me. It's only fair. And you deserve it.”
He did.
Her Hijo had always been so kind to her- Calming her and reassuring her. He had always been so gentle with her, being there when she needed him.
God, how she got lucky.
”¿Cómo estás, corazon?” asked Pepa. ”Solo por favor se honesto, Milito. Por favor.”
She kissed him on the forehead.
”¡Estoy mal, Mami!” cried Camilo. ”Sometimes, when I look in the mirror- I just don't recognize myself, and... I-I wanna shift, I just can't stop... I can't stop working, I just can't... I need a distraction...”
Oh, how his tears broke her heart.
”I'm sorry...” mumbled Camilo. ”I know I should be worrying about you, and your feelings... But I just can't stop mine from dripping over and I'm sorry, I know that's not an excuse, but...”
”I'm sorry!”
God, her heart cracked at that.
”Don't apologize, Camilo,” said Pepa. ”You shouldn't stop yourself from expressing your emotions just because of me.”
She blamed herself, she was always so focused on her own emotions, not her children's. And she should be.
He started to cry more.
”Mi amor, I'm here for you. I promise, okay?” comforted Pepa softly. ”It'll be okay, maybe you don't believe me right now, but it will. I know it will, trust me.”
She wrapped her arms around him tightly and reassured him.
(Later)
His head laid down on her shoulder, they were holding hands- And talking, and eating the arepas.
”I don't wanna wait that long... I wanna be okay. Actually okay.” said Camilo.
”I know, mi sol, but just be patient. It will take time, but I'll be there. The familia too.” reassured Pepa.
”I know...” mumbled Camilo sadly.
”Will you tell them? For me?”
”Sure, cariñito.” answered Pepa.
He smiled, it was small, but it was genuine.
”This is new...” mumbled Camilo suddenly
”What do you mean?” asked Pepa.
”Usually I'm the one comforting you.” explained Camilo. ”Now your the one comforting me. Weird, isn't it?”
”Your right.”
He was, for once, the rolls were reversed.

Camilo sneaking into the opposite genders locker room like pepa did story? He can shape shift so he probably wouldn't even get caught
I strayed so far from the original plan on this- but lowkey I really liked what I came
(Note-this will NOT be too much like Pepa's fic. This will be pg-13 at best, just some mischief. Why? Because the guy is 16, chill)
Now Camilo got along great with his classmates. Like, not to brag, but he was pretty much THE guy around school. And he loved everyone too, for the most part, especially his guy buddies. Don't get him wrong, guys were cute. Like, real cute. They were dumb, they were loud, they smelled nice-but Camilo was never satisfied with just one thing. He wanted to know about girls. I mean, he knew a lot about girls in general, living with seven of them, but when Amanda turned up absent, he decided now was as good of a time as any. So instead of getting in line with the other boys after their game, he snuck in with the girl's pack. His boys would lie and say he was with them the whole time, if worst came to worst.
He didn't know what to expect. But the girl's locker room was surprisingly the same. More quiet, and a bit more clean, but definitely pretty similar. He kept himself hidden for the most part, wanting to oberve more than anything.
"Oh my god, Maria STUFFS."
Now he wasn't one to judge, being a shape-shifting guy, but more girls in the class stuffed their bras than he thought. He didn't have too much to focus on that though, he was too distracted by their bodies. Now he didn't mean it in a pervy way, but rather, in fascination. Sure, some boys were smaller and less hairy than others, but these girls were so...pretty. Smooth looking skin, such pretty hair, and he wasn't gonna lie, he even liked the way their underwear looked. It wasn't so plan jane like guy's underwear. Theirs were so pretty, some with ribbons, some with lace.
Camilo just had the worst case of gender envy, honestly.
Apparently he was too into their looks, that he totally forgot about hiding. Josefina poked her head in his direction, looking pleased as punch.
"Amanda! I thought you weren't gonna be here! What happened to your dad?"
Well shit. Camilo was happy he had voices on lockdown, but that did almost nothing with this story he had no idea about. He cleared his throat, and joined the small group of girls, trying to not stare at their cute under clothes.
"I uh. Can't say yet. But I felt bad for leaving you guys, so I decided to come back!"
He tried not to freeze up as Josefina and Teresa gave him a good hug on each side. Oh WOW this hug was way different than a hug from guys. It wasn't as rough or as awkward (teenage boys were NOT good with their feelings, unlike him). It was firm, it was soft, and it didn't smell like just sweat. Smelled like flowers and lipgloss, and just a HINT of sweat.
"Aw, girly, that's so sweet!"
"So we finally gonna talk about boys then? You've been dodging your super obvious crush!"
Call it the gossip part of him, but he was definitely interested in their words, and not just because they wore their underclothes look GOOD (sometimes the clothes wore the person, he knew the difference).
"Depends, which one? We got variety at this school!"
The girls laughed at him, all while they continued to get out of their gym clothes and fix up their hair.
"I thought you had a thing for Miguel! Who else is there?"
Camilo got comfortable in his seat, absolutely ready for these gossipy bitches. He knew these girls fairly well, but guys tended to not gossip with girls. At least, about fellow guys.
"Oh screw Miguel, he's about as interesting as dirt. You guys want someone FINE- you want Raoul. This guy has a tattoo, right at his hip dip, you can see it just poking out of his towel!"
"No WAY, how do you KNOW that?!"
Camilo put his finger over his lip, signaling he doesn't kiss and tell, before noticing Camila. Camila was SUPER pretty, if a bit anti social. He shouldn't have said anything, but he couldn't help himself.
"Mija-that color does not go with your skintone."
She paused to look at him, and Camila frowned.
"But I like beige?"
"It's not an ugly color, just not for you. Here, may I?"
Camila nodded, and Camilo just went for it. He stole lipstick from the girl next to her, and gently held onto Camila's face as he applied a good, bright pink color. He added a bit of blush to her cheeks, gave her brows a quick brush, and just like that, instant improvement. He held the mirror to her face, and she gasped in surprise.
"Oh my god- how'd you do that so fast?!"
"You have LOADS of natural beauty, Camila, you just need to highlight your features! You have perfect cheeks, your eyebrows are to die for, and your lips are like, perfect. You always wear beige and it's like, people can't see it!"
Camila apparently just now realized Camilo was touching her bottom lip, and she exploded in color, before thanking him (a bit loudly), and taking her things as she quickly left. Ah, a gay panic, he was familiar with it, and it looked SO cute when girls did it. Josefina raised a brow at him, clearly confused.
"You didn't know how to apply eyeliner yesterday, what's up with you?"
"Oh uh. I'm just full of surprises. You could ask more questions, or you could let me give you a boho crown and see how it frames your face."
The girls shared glances at each other, before she clapped her hands excitedly.
"Do my hair!!"
-----------------------
The time you got in between PE and lunch was only twenty minutes. And spending time in the girl's locker room was the shortest, wildest twenty minutes of his life. The tea he spilled, the hair and makeup he did, the panties he had seen. It. Was. Everything. He almost didn't want it to end.
"See you tomorrow girls!"
He waved off his gal pals as the bell dismissed them. Ugh, they were just so pretty, so sweet and good to him. He really wished they would trust him like that WITHOUT him pretending to be someone else, but hey, story of his life. Once he knew it was safe, he transformed back into himself, joining the pack of the boys. Eduardo raised a brow at Camilo as he leaned against his shoulder. Guy was pretty much used to Camilo touching him whenever he felt like.
"Where have YOU been? Hitting on the lunch ladies?"
"Hey, that's how I get two helpings, first of all. Second, nope. I went to forbidden territory. The girl's locker room."
He had SO many eyes on him in a second. The boys crowded him, and the stupid looks on their faces reminded him just WHY he liked boys. Easy to impress and coax attention out of.
"You went to the girl's locker room?! You snuck in?!"
"Better. I just walked right in. Or should I say...Amanda did."
They got it immediately, muttering against themselves, as if Camilo learned the secret to life.
"Dude, how much did you see?!"
Camilo left them hanging, just for a second, before grinning.
"Every. Single. Thing."
He wasn't admiring girls in the same way they were, but even he had to admit, women were gorgeous and alluring enough to deserve such awe.
"You gotta tell us! We gotta know who has what chest!"
Camilo shrugged, starting to walk away, and of course, they followed.
"I dunno. I'm a little too hungry to remember."
"We'll buy you lunch! As much as you want!"
Camilo turned to the group, thinking carefully, before gesturing to Raoul.
"Buy me lunch, and gimme your shirt."
He obeyed automatically, only raising a brow as soon as he handed him his shirt.
"But I'm three sizes bigger than you."
"And don't you just hold those sizes well, papi chulo~...alright, walk and talk with me, boys. Raoul, in front, I want a view."
Camilo could complain that being different people got him different treatment. But he could NOT complain that being himself was pretty damn great.

okay question: who in encanto do you think is the best unlikely duo?? like what 2 characters do you rarely see interact but you just know their relationship would be great, or really surprisingly sweet ???
OH OH I have an answer for this one!
Dolores and Luisa! I would call both of them the quietest Madrigals. Dolores hears everything and she heard Luisa's eye twitching and knows it is a sign of stress for her cousin. In my personal head canon they have a lovely relationship and once Casita is rebuilt and Luisa has time to herself, she'd hang out with Dolores a lot. I also head canon they both like cheesy romance novels and bond over those.

Mirabel knew she was supposed to go to bed but she couldn’t. Not yet. Isabela had gotten scolded for making the wrong bouquet.
She wanted to make sure her sister was okay.
She gasps and whispers to casita. She knows something that always makes her feel better!
Once Mirabel found the perfect gift for her sister, she went up to the elder’s room. She opened the door to see nothing.
Well, slightly untrue as there were tons of flowers but no sister in sight. Mirabel walked around and called out for Isabela when she heard some soft sobs. Looking around she saw a bunch of plants and vines wrapped around a portion of the room.
“Isabela?” She called again. “I… I have a gift for you.”
“Go away!”
“Please? Isa?”
Mirabel hears some rustling and sees the vines move and her sisters angry, tear streaked face.
“I SAID-!” Mirabel holds up the gift.
Isabela blinks as she notices the pin and a couple of flowers in her sister’s hands.
“They’re inter- inner… they switch!” Mirabel says.
Afterwards her sister starts crying again, pin in hand and Mirabel hugs her. She tells her sister that she thought it was amazing and that mistakes happen. Mirabel knows. After Abuela says Mirabel makes lots of mistakes.
Isabela looks like she wants to say something but Mirabel hugs her again and tells her to sleep well.
As the years pass, Mirabel notices how even though it’s the pink one, Isabela still wears the hairpin.

Windowsill
Camilo, despite everything was her best friend. She know him better than she knows herself. That’s why when she sees he doesn’t eat the arepas at dinner, his favorite, she knows something is wrong.
They may not be four and spend everyday together anymore but she goes to where he’s hiding.
Camilo loves the sky. His mom makes it change and he adores it. Loves all weather.
When she gets there he clings. He talks about how his body changes and it feels wrong and how it’s not him. How nobody needs him anymore.
She tells him he’s wrong. How she needs him, how no matter what he looks like she will always need him.
Later she makes him a ruana with chameleons embroidered on it. She leaves a note at his door.
‘Even though a chameleon can shift and hide, it’s still a chameleon.’

Woods
Dolores had run off into the woods. Mirabel doesn’t know what she heard but knows it wasn’t good. She follows and they sit in silence.
Sometimes it’s good to be quiet.
She leaves some earmuffs she made at her cousin’s door that night.

Kitchen
Luisa was harder to find but at least one spot Mirabel could reliably find her at is the kitchen. Where she’ll see her mom already comforting her sister.
Once she knows it’ll be fine she goes to make another outfit to fit her sister whose so strong and beautiful that she doesn’t understand why others don’t see it too.
She hand it to her sister with a big hug and tells her she’s beautiful.

Bed
Antonio had long since made a habit of hiding under her bed. It’s why when she hears people can’t find him she goes to her room. She opens her drawer.
“This present will self destruct in three…”

Roof
Mirabel sits where no one in the house could see her. Always hidden and safe.
She failed to make them proud today. And that’s okay. She’ll cry tonight and stare at the stars she wishes so desperately to shine like. Eventually Casita will urge her to go to bed and she will.
Tomorrow is a new day. A new chance to make her family proud.
