fight for you
Inspired by the Book of Life. Part 1
A letter had arrived to inform the Madrigals of your return. Camilo is overjoyed to reunite with you.
Camilo had kept his word. Even as eight years had passed, as Casita fell and rose back again on the hill that the two of you had once ran around on, the hope that you would return never once wavered.
Although he wanted to send you letters, he didn’t know where to write to you and your father hadn’t exactly warmed up to him even after your departure. Oftentimes he would run up to him, asking for any news from you. Though Ignacio would only regard him for a moment before silently walking away. He can’t say the same for his family though. The Madrigals and the lonely widow Ignacio Castillo had maintained a friendship of sorts. Though it seemed that Ignacio hadn’t really seen him as anything but the boy that drove his one and only daughter away from him. Often frowning and leaving the room whenever Camilo entered.
He knew his reputation wasn’t exactly the best but he had tried to show the older man his good side. Often he had pestered him, helping him out whenever he could. And try as Ignacio may, he couldn’t help but admire the boy whose smile was infectious and bright.
Camilo had spent years waiting, completely unaware that he was a boy falling deeper into the depths of love. No longer was it a silly crush and it took years of your absence to realize that.
He thought that he would have to wait longer. Not that he minded waiting but the day he had been waiting for would soon arrive.
A letter had been delivered to the matriarch of the family while they were having dinner. He recognized the seal that had your father’s initials on them as well as the wax seal’s colors. He drummed his fingers on the table, fidgeting as he resisted the urge to just snatch the letter from his grandmother’s hands.
He watched with bated breath, chewing on the arepa he ate like his life depended on it as his abuela’s serious features melted away to form a warm smile. She placed the letter back in its envelope before placing her hands on the table, glancing at him briefly.
“It seems that Señor Castillo’s daughter is expected to return from after completing her studies in the city.”
Camilo choked, an unchewed piece of arepa lodging itself in his throat.
Pepa, not noticing the choking Camilo had smiled fondly. “Oh, how sweet, you’re getting all choked up.” She stifles a soft motherly laugh, knowing how Camilo had admired and loved the girl.
Most people would argue that it was puppy love and that it would pass but her son’s unwavering patience to wait for (Name) told her all she needed to know. She was blissfully unaware that Camilo was so close to seeing the light, his abuelo Pedro on the other side—
Camilo grasped onto the table tightly, turning slightly purple as he couldn’t breathe. Was this it? Death by arepas? Granted it was a good way to go but he hadn’t seen (Name) yet!
“Oh..! Ay dios mio, you’re choking!” Panic ensued as Felix had turned to his son, about to share some fatherly wisdom, only to see Camilo choking. He immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver as Pepa thundered and rained all over the dinner table.
Well, after almost having a heart attack from Camilo’s near death experience, Alma had announced that she would like to host a welcoming party in honor of (Name’s) return. Seeing as the Madrigals and the Castillos were more than acquaintances after your departure, she saw it fit to hold a party for the return of one of Encanto’s memorable citizens.
As Camilo laid in his bed, he couldn’t help the smile that graced his lips. You were coming back. After all this time he was going to see you again.
Camilo wondered what you looked like now and as he stood up, he glanced at himself in the mirror. He combed his fingers through his brown curls, smiling at himself. He could say that he looked good. He only hoped that he wouldn’t disappoint.
The shapeshifter turned to his closet, opening it up to reveal dozens of ruanas that resembled the very same one you gave him. Said ruana was carefully tucked away. He had worn it only once and that was on the day of your departure. It had slipped off his shoulders a few times but Pepa reassured him that he would grow into it.
He went back to bed, holding the ruana close to his chest as he reminisced about his childhood with you, slowly falling asleep with a smile on his freckled face.
Soon came the day he had been waiting for. Casita was roaring with excitement, much to his sister Dolores’ chagrin. Everyone had wondered how you were after being away from Encanto. Rumors of your studies as well as your beauty buzzed around the town. Camilo had looked forward to meeting you once again, fidgeting as he kept on shifting to different people out of nervousness.
“Alright, alright, calm down. You got this.” his fingers drummed against his thighs as he tried to focus.
The welcome party had been attended by the whole town, all of its’ citizens as equally curious as he was to see or know what had happened to the little menace that once terrorized the whole town with Camilo.
“Óye, (Name’s) on her way.” Dolores whispered to her Abuela before she let out a little ‘hm’.
He stood beside his abuela, with your father on the opposite of the Madrigal matriarch. Camilo donned the exact same ruana you had given him the last time he saw you, his white button-up pressed smoothly and showed no creases. He swallowed thickly as he fidgeted with the ends of his ruana, careful as to not pick on it too much as he was afraid of ruining the gift that you had given him.
“Camilo, your girlfriend’s here!” Isabela had smirked after she had peered out on the walkway where you were escorted by a boy that looked to be of Camilo’s age, though they weren’t familiar with him. Perhaps he was an outsider that you met while studying in the city? He was tall, handsome, a mop of smooth umber locks on his head. The unknown boy’s pretty amber eyes gleamed as he smiled down at you. Camilo could feel his throat dry up and his heart clench. Who was he?
A hush fell over the crowd as you finally entered Casita’s newly built doors. All eyes on you as you made your way down the center of the parted crowd. Camilo could hear their whispers but his eyes had narrowed on the unfamiliar boy by your side. He didn’t like it. He didn’t like him. Maybe it was his overprotectiveness for his girl.. His friend showed but he was far too close for his liking. Though he tried to push the green monster that threatened to ruin his whole night. This is gonna be a night to remember. You don’t want to ruin it, Camilo hissed to himself.
As expected, everyone in town was curious to see how you had grown. Camilo had quickly turned his attention to you once he heard the soft gasps that came from the crowd.
“(Name) Castillo has returned..”
A delicate fan had hid your features from curious eyes that tried to take a glimpse of you. You were dressed in a white blouse, delicate frills on the neck with a light yellow lace trimming, your skirt was long, embroidered with pretty carnations and sugar flowers and it stopped just before your ankles. On your hair was a little bow in the color of Camilo’s ruana.
“And she’ll be helping out with the children..” One of the mothers that Camilo had been helping had gushed as you gently ruffled the curly hair of the little tyke in her arms.
“I heard she reads books.. like for fun.” One of the haughty girls your age had scoffed, rolling their eyes while her companion had gasped. “No way..”
You continued to make your way through the crowd, a space between Alma and Camilo being made for you. The boy he had been glaring at joined your father’s side. Although he was nervous, Camilo had tried his best to retain his confident smile while your father had looked on proudly. “Mija.” Your father greets you with a warm hug and you couldn’t help but return the embrace before you had pulled away to stand in between the shapeshifter and his grandmother.
“Señorita Castillo.” Camilo breathes out, unable to believe that you were actually here now. You were so close and he could feel your warmth. He could only see your eyes right now, mesmerized and getting lost in them.
He briefly wondered if you even remembered who he was. It had been years after all and no letters were exchanged to know what had happened to the both of you in each other’s absence. Anxiety filled him and he felt his palms get sweaty. Though that soon would be melted away as you turned to him with that sweet smile you always gave him when you were younger.
You lowered your fan, eyelashes fluttering prettily as you beamed up at him. “Hola, Camilo.” You greet with a soft smile, only then making your features visible to everyone in town.
Camilo Madrigal swore he could hear a chorus of angels singing as his eyes opened wide to take in all of you. His jaw dropped and he started shifting again, his familiar disfigured face staring at you in disbelief.
A soft giggle merely escaped your lips, far too familiar with Camilo’s antics to be surprised anymore. “It’s really nice to see you..” You lean close as you whisper, smiling sheepishly, cheeks heating up as you recognize the ruana he wore. "You kept it? After all these years?"
Camilo’s own cheeks felt warm as he didn’t even know where to look. Your pretty eyes or the lips he swore he could kiss forever. And he could only nod dumbly as you smiled.
However, your attention was soon captured by his grandmother who had smiled fondly, gently grabbing your shoulders as she made a welcome speech that Camilo didn’t really listen to. Something about returning, yada.. Yada.. enough about his abuela!
All he could focus on was you.
Aside from his grandmother’s speech he would briefly hear muffled snippets of conversations of both your father and said boy who he now knew as one of your friends from the capital. He heard how he had insisted on escorting you home. He had shook your father’s hand firmly, proudly smiling as he heard Ignacio’s praise of making sure his daughter had come home safely. And to that he says, really? He spent years trying to gain even a smile from the ever cold Ignacio Castillo but it was given away so freely to a stranger?
As Alma’s speech ended, she asked for the band to play some music, no doubt sparking what would be a very lively party. Although Camilo wanted nothing more but to speak with you, you were whisked away by his primas who had fawned over your outfit as well as your now grown features. They had also filled you in on what you had missed during the eight years you’ve studied in the city.
You talked animatedly, recalling all your time in the city. He would watch, mesmerized by how you had become so.. so beautiful. Though there were quirks you had retained that he remembered when you were children. He smiled to himself, sighing dreamily.
“Camilo Madrigal. The shapeshifter, right?” A voice interrupted him from his thoughts and he turned to see the very same boy that was by your side upon entering Casita. “Andres Del Pilar.” The boy held his hand out. “I’ve heard a lot about you from princesa. It is nice to finally meet you.” Andres greets with a smile that didnt quite reach his eyes.
Something about this boy had honestly riled Camilo up. He was so.. Smug. Like he was smug too but his smugness, by his defense, was endearing! Not like this.. This.. chico engreido! He could feel Andres size him up, likely to scope out the competition as Camilo shook his hand.
“All good things, I hope.” He says through gritted teeth, eyes narrowing at the nickname the boy had referred to you as.
“But of course, mi princesa speaks highly of her darling friend.” Camilo could practically hear the emphasis on Andres’ words. His princess. Not yours. He turned to gaze at you just like Camilo had. The tall boy hummed softly. “During her years in the city, I’ve been granted her gracious presence. I admire her, you see. Only a blind man wouldn’t.” Andres had shook his head. “Numerous times I have thought of asking for her hand to court..” Camilo could feel his heart stop at his words, eyes wide as he looked at Andres.
“But I intend to ask for it from her father, Señor Castillo himself.” Camilo’s blood ran cold and he swore he feel himself freeze up, nails digging in his palms at how tight he was clenching his fists.
The tall boy merely gave him a once over, huffing haughtily. “Judging by your reaction it seems she has failed to inform me that this darling friend.. Doesn’t see her as just that.” He shook his head. “Though I really don’t see someone like you as a competition. No shapeshifting could amount to the life and the riches I could give her.”
Andres turned to walk away, bumping his shoulder against Camilo harshly and watching with a snicker as the shapeshifter had stumbled back. “Just a friendly advice, from one amigo to another, si? It is best if you cease any feelings you have for her, friend.” Andres had masked the poison in his words with his flowery sentences.
Camilo’s jaw clenched and he swore if he didn’t have the patience of a saint he would’ve seen red. Andres had expected an easy win. An easy ‘I yield’ from the Camilo boy. What he didn’t expect was dark green eyes narrowing at him.
“Que gane el mejor, amigo. May the best man win.” Camilo stood tall as he sauntered past Andres. If Andres thought he was going to back down, he had another thing coming. Camilo Madrigal was going to fight for you.
Nearby, hidden by a large assortment of plants, one could hear a little ‘oooh’ as they bore witness to the scene that had just transpired. Dolores, Mirabel, and their Tio Bruno had been listening in. After making sure that both boys had left the scene, Dolores let out a little ‘hm’ before relaying what had just happened as Bruno who had been quite inspired by the display, had taken notes, invested in his sobrino’s story and inspired to make a telenovela with starring his rats. Mirabel recalled the exchange from both boys to be used as the dialogue.
“Write that down! Write that down! That was telenovela gold!”

i hope you guys like the second part of the book of life series ! sorry if theres any typos 😭 im still sick but i wanted to get a fic out ! let me know what you guys think !!
camilo comes out to his family as gay at dinner, and introduces you as his boyfriend. abuela has accepted that her family isnt perfect, but she isnt quite ready to give up this part of her want for a "perfect family".
camilo just wants to be himself for once.
camilo x male (he/him) reader :)
warnings: homophobic abuela (i do just want to say, shes not like this or a bad person in canon, i just needed someone to get this fic to flow into the hurt/comfort.), one line of self harm (camilo punches his own thigh out of anger—it stops almost as soon as it starts), hurt/comfort
cross-posted on ao3!!
"camilo, your boyfriend's here!" isabela called from the door where you stood, smirk prominent in the tone of her voice.
you were invited for dinner by the madrigals, mainly because camilo asked if you could come. you'd been dating for a while now, but acted only like best friends in front of people to keep yourselves secret. dolores knew, who told only isabela. camilo was amazed at how well she was keeping quiet—though, he knew she would never out him to the whole family—she had morals.
camilo slid down the stairs, which had turned flat under his feet. he bumped isabelas arm hard when he made it to the door. "isabela! dios mío, what if someone heard you?" he said through clenched teeth. isabela only smiled and turned, walking away. camilo looked at you, then looked at isabela as she walked, "plus, its only funny if you can shape-shift."
she left, an amused scoff escaping her after camilo spoke. camilos expression softened, he leaned against the door and made room for you to enter. "come in, amor."
you were nervous for tonight, and he knew you were, because he was too. he'd planned on telling his family his two biggest secrets tonight—his sexuality, and who he wanted to be with for the rest of his life. he wanted to get it all off his chest, and you were both ready to stop hiding, so why not over dinner?
his family was always like family to you, so why should you be nervous? his abuela may aswell have been yours, his cousins, siblings, tío's and tía's may aswell have been yours—you were always so welcome there, and tonight shouldnt change that, right?
you stepped in and camilo closed the door behind you. "dinner has already been prepared—you came just in time." a light smile was plastered on his face, eye full of adoration as he looked at you. even if you were late, god, he wouldnt care, he just wanted to see you.
he took your hand in his and led you to the dining room, where the majority of his family had already gathered. well, if you didnt feel like you were late before, you definitely did now. their stares at the hand holding were ignored by camilo, who just wanted to get you to your seats.
he'd already set out the plates of food for the both of you, his family seating themselves with their own. you squeezed his hand lightly as a way to say thank you to him for getting yours for you already.
camilo pulled out your chair for you, bowing slightly as you sat down.
"why, thank you." you grinned at him while he sat next to you. he was being more openly flirty tonight, and you enjoyed it a lot. he usually did his best to stay at least a few inches away from you while outside of his room, unable to trust his own abilities to keep his hands to himself, but today? today was new. you loved today.
dolores sat next to camilo, which she always did, but tonight it felt like she was there for moral support. you noticed out of the corner of your eye the nervous glances she continued to give camilo. under the table, camilos hand found yours, his other hand picking up a utensil. small conversations between family members struck, leaving camilo a nervous wreck wondering when the perfect time would be. you rubbed your thumb against the backside of his hand as comfort.
uncharacteristically of him, camilo was hardly touching his food. he stared into it, focusing on your touch and the conversations around you both, taking the occasional bite when he remembered to.
the more he thought about just outright saying it all to his family, the more panicky he was getting. when the table went silent, he barely noticed. he barely even noticed his own mother calling his name—he only noticed when you squeezed his hand to get his attention. he looked up at you, and then heard his name, to which he looked to pepa.
"whats wrong, camilo?" she asked gently.
"oh, its nothing, dont worry, mamí. i– i guess i wanted to say something." he mentioned, and pepa tilted her head in curiosity.
he had all of the table looking at him now, and it wasnt helping his nervousness. his face twisted as he turned his head to look at everyone. he opted to look down instead.
"well– i just.. you all have been telling me lately to get myself a girlfriend.." the energy shifted in the room. he opened his mouth to talk again, but wasnt able to get anything out when he was cut off.
"camilo, did you get a girlfriend?" félix asked, a proudness in his voice. dolores cringed, as did you.
"no. no, i didnt. well– close, i guess?" he mumbled the last bit, but everyone caught it. "i wanted to say, that.. i, uhm.." dolores could hear his heartbeat picking up. you felt his hand shift in yours, gripping yours tightly. "i would much rather have a boyfriend. and, i do. i'm.. dating y/n."
no one spoke. camilo could feel the panic building up higher and higher. dolores smiled, trying subtly to hype him up just enough to get the others to start talking.
mirabel, who sat across the table, clapped quietly a few times. "i'm proud of you, camilo."
camilo looked up at her and saw a bright smile on her face. he let his lips form a small smile to return to her. his eyes wandered away from her and onto you now, but you werent looking at him, you were looking at his abuela. he was unsure of the expression on your face, so he looked to his abuela for the answer.
her face was anything but proud. his heart dropped to his stomach.
so maybe her need for a 'perfect family' hadnt completely faded.
"you're..." she couldnt finish whatever she was saying. her expression was a mixture of any bad one she could muster up. camilo couldnt look anymore. he couldnt even bring himself to look at his other family members to see if they still loved him. "where did we go wrong?"
camilo slouched down, his hand loosening from yours. you tried to meet his eyes, but he wouldnt look up. camilo let go of your hand completely and stood up to leave the table—he couldnt handle the terrible, judging silence anymore. you stood up immediately after, refusing to look at anyone at the table. you reached for camilos hand, but he moved it from your reach before he could.
"madre!" you could hear pepas frustrated voice pipe up, faded as you followed camilo up the stairs to his room. camilo opened his door and left it, wordlessly letting you know he was okay with you being with him. "how could you say something like that?" thunder boomed as you closed the door behind you.
when you turned around, you watched camilo drop to his knees right in front of his bed. he began sobbing into the mattress in front of him. you got to him as fast as you could, skidding to your knees next to him. unsure if touching him would make it worse, you stayed right by him for him to make the first move.
his breath hitched far too often, so uneven it sounded painful.
"cant breathe-" he choked through a broken sob. "c– cant—"
"camilo, hey, you're okay. can i touch you?" a simple, small nod, and your arms were looped around his shoulders. he turned to his side and let himself sob into your shoulder, hands going to tightly grip your shirt to ground himself. you could feel just how bad his breathing was now.
"amor, i need you to breathe, okay? please? lets just breathe for a moment." your hand met his neck and rubbed gently. "listen to my breathing, only that." you leveled your own breathing for him to focus on, and you could tell, underneath his sobs, he was really trying to do just that.
one of his tightly gripping hands unclenched and pressed flat into your chest just to feel it expand with every breath. it helped him get grounded as best he could.
"you're doing great, mi amado. this is all you have to do right now. just breath. nothing else. no chores, no talking, you dont even have to think—just take some breaths." the way his breath wobbled when he inhaled, the way he would choke out a sob everytime he exhaled, it broke you. why were some people so cruel?
though it wasnt the best, his breathing was even enough to not be considered hyperventilating anymore, and that was good enough for you. for him too, apparently, because as soon as he let his hand fall from your chest, the waterworks came forth.
his body jerked forward into you, his arms wrapping around you in a quick, harsh hug as he pressed his face as hard into your shoulder as he could to stop his own crying. it didnt work, at all, because it only made him cry harder. his teeth clenched, fists balled on your back.
"you'll give yourself a headache if you hold it back, camilo.. you're safe here, you can let it out." you held him close, face pressing into his hair. you planted a kiss to his head, and he let the dam break freely. it was the same sobs he started with, but they werent paired with hyperventilation this time, thanks to you.
"i thought i could, i– i just wanted t – to be myself."
"i know.." you held him just slightly tighter, voice muffled by his hair. "you deserve to be yourself, especially with your familia. i'm so sorry, mi vida."
he took in a shaky breath, let out a few cries through his lips, which were sealed shut out of frustration. "i never get to be me. i never..–" his fists got tighter, and he let his arms fall. his voice was so broken, so quiet. "i always have to be someone im not. i hate this. i hate this. i hate–" he hadnt realized his fists had been slamming onto his own thighs under you had to stop him from hurting himself too much. you reacted quickly, by the second hit, you were already holding his hands back from a third.
"we'll figure this out. i wont let your abuela treat you like that—or anyone else. te prometo." you held his hands so gently, as if he were going to fall apart from your touch. "te amo porque eres tu, mi amor."
you didnt need an answer. the way he held onto you as if his life depended on it was enough.
camilo began relaxing against you, his cries getting softer as time went on. he let you hold his hands, something so comforting about it.
"how about we move up to your bed, hm?" you suggested softly. he nodded against you and let you guide his weak body up to sit on his bed. he sat and brought his knees up to his chest on the mattress, then rested his head in his arms.
you pulled him into a side hug and stayed with him like that, until there was a knock on his door.
"camilo? ..y/n?" it was pepa. another knock came, she sounded impatient and desperate to see her son.
"..cielo, tu madre.." you mentioned quietly, pulling his attention towards the knocking at the door. he looked up, then over at you. you hadnt met his eyes until now, and it completely broke you. they were so red, so full of tears, so upset. the look he gave you, though—he wanted his mother. you nodded towards the door, and he nodded back at you. with that, you got up and answered it.
"how is he? is he okay? please let me see my boy." she bombarded you with words, speaking so quickly it took a second to process her words. the cloud over her head was dark, but no activity came from it. you looked back at camilo, then to his mother again.
" 's not doing well." you said quietly, then stepped aside for her to enter.
you watched her rush to his side. "oh, camilo," his feet slid off the bed to allow room for a hug.
"mamí.." and he was crying into her shoulder, arms tight around her, just as they had been around you moments before.
camilo wasnt one to hide the fact that he was a mamas boy, especially not around you, and you knew that. he needed his mother. you were more than happy that pepa wasnt like his abuela.
you sat yourself in a small chair set near camilos bed after closing the door again and let pepa comfort her son.
"why cant i just be me, mama?" he asked, desperate for any answer that would make the pain go away.
"mi tesoro, you can be you. i talked to your abuela, she doesnt understand, but i made her promise she wont talk to you like that ever again."
"she doesnt love me." he mumbled into her shoulder, trying way too hard to stop crying again.
"she loves you, she loves you so much, camilo. i promise. we all do. this wont change a thing. she'll get used to it in time." camilo gripped onto his mothers dress, teeth clenched. "oh, mijo, i'm so proud of you for telling us. and i'm so happy you found someone who loves you just as much as we do." pepa side-eyed you for a moment, a smile on her face specifically for you. although she looked away before you could return it, you still smiled back at her.
"gracias.." his voice wobbled.
"te quiero camaleón."
"yo también te quiero mamí."
she held camilo for a few more minutes, silence filling the room. you watched how she kissed his head anytime camilo took in a harsh post-sob breath. he sounded like he was beginning to fall asleep in his mothers arms.
"i'm going to get you and y/n some water and a few snacks, since your plates were hardly touched, okay?" camilo hesitated, then nodded. she let go of him and stood up, shooting you a loving look before leaving the room.
camilo stared into his bed sheets, unmoving besides his shoulders shaking slightly. he looked up at you with eyes that almost pleaded for you to come to him. unsure of if that was the message, you stayed in your chair until he outstretched his arms towards you. how could you not hug him? you got up and joined him as soon as his arms lifted.
"te amo." you kissed his cheek, and he leaned into the gentle notion.
he leaned away from the short hug and pulled you into a proper kiss, eyes closing as your lips met. you leaned into his kiss, which forced him backwards into a laying position. your lips moved against his lazily moving ones, feeding as much love into the gesture as you possibly could.
"i.. love.. you.." you spoke, each word emphasized by a peck to his lips. you hovered over him, your legs laying beside him while your arms held you up. "i love you." you kissed him again, "i love you." and again, repeating the words in both english and spanish, peppering kisses all over his face.
he cracked a very small smile. success.
while you were trying your best to kiss every single freckle on his face—making sure to proclaim your love whenever you moved to another one—he let out the quietest giggle.
"yo también te amo, mi vida– te amo–" he said through growing laughter, attempting to get you to stop. it didnt work, though, because you only kept going. you were determined. you kissed down his jaw, then his neck, where he was quite ticklish. "¡te amo! i love you! ¡ya basta! ¡basta!"
his hands pushing you off, desperate proclamations of his own love flowing from his lips wasnt what got you to stop—it was when you looked up and realized pepa was halfway to his bed with a plate of snacks and some drinks carefully balanced in her arms. you sat up quickly, clearing your throat to try and cover the growing embarrassment.
she set everything down on camilos sidetable—which was quite messy, leaving barely any room for the plate and cups—and pressed a sweet kiss to camilos cheek, which was red from embarrassment.
then, she whispered to him, just loud enough that you knew she wanted you to hear it too, "if he's not treating you perfectly, if he makes you sad even once, you tell me, got it?" she said in a tone that was anything but stern. you both knew she meant it, but it wasnt at all said in a rude way. then, she looked up at you, "thank you for taking care of mijo, y/n. you are always welcome here—you already knew that. and if mi camaleón makes you sad, you tell me, too." she pointed at you, a smile on her lips.
"he could never make me sad, mamí. and i dont have it in me to upset him. i could never." he spoke in the same lighthearted tone that his mother had used, voice still low and somewhat hoarse from the sobs that had now left him completely.
"mhm, mhm, whatever you say. y/n, you promise you'll take perfect care of him, right?"
"of course. i wouldnt want to do anything else."
"madre," camilo said, a whine in the word, "when has he ever done anything wrong to me?"
"you're right, just making sure!" she threw her hands up in defence. "i will leave you two be now.. if either of you need anything, dont be shy. i'm right here. and i promise, you are both so loved."
you both said at the same time. she smiled once more at the both of you before turning and leaving, not without one last concerned look at her son through the final inch of the door before it closed.
camilo wrapped his arms around you and pulled you down to lay with him as soon as the door shut.
"you make me feel happy."
"it's called returning the favour." you smiled before pressing a quick kiss to his lips.
camilo put a hand on your cheek and initiated the kiss this time, making it last a few moments longer.
"te adoro, cariño." you whispered against his lips.
"te aprecio, mi vida." he whispered back.
after eating whatever pepa brought you both, you two stayed in each others arms for the rest of the night. it took quite a while for sleep to capture you both, but it came in time. if camilo woke up crying a few times, he didnt have to tell you, because you would be up almost immediately just from feeling him move in your arms, and you were always ready to hug him and tell him he was okay.

pairing: camilo madrigal x shy f!reader
summary: you like to watch from afar the madrigal family, quietly observing their magical nature as they bring life into your tiny village. unbeknownst to you, a certain madrigal noticed you, too.
"Do you understand?"
You bit your bottom lip, looking away from the scene as you glanced to your friend, nodding uncertainly as you phased out what she was saying.
Amongst all the bright colors you were surrounded with, all the different forms of magic that you had grown up with, a certain boy always seemed to catch your attention.
"He's an entertainer, Y/n," Lila said, her eyes trailing to where your gaze was trained, realizing that you were lost in thought as she commented.
Your brows furrowed, looking at her as you rubbed a hand over your tried eyes, the bag you were carrying in your hands growing heavier the more you waited to put it down.
"He seems sweet," You tried, giving her an uncertain smile as she rolled her eyes, forcefully moving you away.
"He's no good, chica, especially not for you." And Lila left no room for argument as she steered you away, filling your mind with other things as you two left the town square.
And you spared a glance over your shoulder, wanting to see his the bright smile he'd flash the little children that flocked to his side, begging him to shift into them, only to be met with deep chestnut eyes, a heavy look on his face as he stared back intently at you.
And you quickly turned away, cheeks heating in embarrassment as you kept your gaze settled on the floor, doing your best to listen to Lila's talking despite the blood roaring in your ears.
"Ay, hermosa, do you know just how miserable you look right now?"
You kicked Dolores in the shins, your chin resting in your hand as you looked out into the mountains, zooming out her little giggles as she nestled herself next to you.
"'M not miserable, Dolores, I'm thinking," You heard her scoff, your legs dangling off the edge as you balanced on the brick wall, thoughts going wild as all you could think of was him, and the way he looked at you.
"Why do you act like I can't hear you every morning, huh? 'I think he likes orange, or maybe red,' or how about yesterday when you debated for an hour if my brother likes flowers. Y/n, do you realize we live with Isabella?" You groaned the more she spoke, covering your face with your hands to hide away in embracement.
"I'm not good with these things!" You argued, looking away as she chuckled, "Listen, I doubt he knows who I am, if that. Just let me sulk for a few more weeks, okay?"
As you tried to look anywhere but there you noticed the burnt hues of the sun littering the sky above you, a reminder that another day had gone to waste in trying to seek out Camilo.
"Well, I'm not sure if you should sa-" And you both perked up when you heard a familiar voice, your heart racing quickly in your chest as his face appeared from what seemed to be nowhere.
"Oi, Dolores!" Camilo waved his arms despite the fact that he was shouting and she could have picked up on it easily, "Tía Julieta needs you! Abuelita also needed help finding her glasses!"
You watched as she pressed her lips tightly together, sighing as she leaped off with a push of her hands, rubbing your knees affectionately as she started to leave towards the direction of the Madrigal house.
"Have some fate in yourself, okay hermosa?" You couldn't say anything to her kind nature, instead silently watching as she left, exchanging a few words with her brother as he glanced to you, and then quickly back to his sister, patting her shoulder as she left.
You only hoped he would leave, not wanting him to see you in such a state of disarray.
Though it seemed that Camilo had other plans as he walked closer towards you, his signature smile on his face as he neared your feet, looking up as he squinted slightly.
"You're Y/n, right?" Could he sense that your blood froze the moment he spoke his name, the way your hearing seemed to clear as it left his mouth?
"Y-yeah, that's me," His eyebrows quirked as he began climbing u the wall, settling right beside you, right where Dolores was, as he held out his hand for a shake.
"I'm Camilo. Dolores's brother," He pointed to where she had gone, but you already knew that.
You shakily gripped his, wanting to curse yourself for the sweat that dotted your palm, how your skin must have felt clammy in his hands, or the way your arm slightly shook as he gripped your hand.
You dimly nodded, biting the inside of your cheek as you tried to think of something clever to say, something that wouldn't totally wreck his first image of you.
"You're the one that can shapeshift, right?" You winced the moment the words came out of your mouth. Only an idiot wouldn't know what Camilo's gift was.
But instead of scoffing at your vacuity, he grinned, nodding quickly as his head morphed into one of a child, and then quickly back to his own as he watched a small smile grow on your face.
"The one and only," He teased, bumping his shoulder gently with yours, not realizing how the small gesture made you choke on your tongue.
You glanced to the side, your mind reeling as everything seemed to fall short, words failing as you forgot to speak, oblivious to the fact that the boy by your side looked at you warmly, his usual grin shifting into a small smile as you looked away.
"You know," He started, bumping his shoulder with yours once again to catch your attention, "My tía makes really good arepas. And she always makes more than we can eat," He scratched the back of his head, cheeks flushing under your intense gaze, heart beating rapidly in your proximity, "You can come, if you want, of course...?"
And in that split second, you felt everything lift up. Your eyes seemed to be locked in a trance, breathing going the same rate as you two stared at each other, finger itching to touch again as you slowly nodded, the smile that he had admired from war away gracing your face as you nodded more quickly.
"I-I'd love too," Hs chest released a breath of air at that, relief flooding his veins as he pushed himself off the edge, extending his hand out towards you as you slowly took it, gently jumping off in the same fashion as you dusted your clothes to rid of the dust.
"I'd have to warn you though, princesa, my family's a lot to handle. You think you can deal with it?" He warned, teasing you as he lead you towards the colorful house, his hand close to your back as you walked side by side next to him.
"I think I can," You joked back, knowing well that you loved every member of the Madrigal family, perhaps one of them a bit more than the others.
And from that moment on, the way the sun hit your radiating eyes seemed to stick in Camilo's mind. The way you kindly came into his family, into his heart, never leaving his mind.
Camilo liked to think that under any pressure he could shift away into something else, but under the pressure of your hold, the way you held him close to your body made him second guess everything he thought his entire life.
Heeey just saw you blog, it looks new so congratulations on it honey 💕 so I was wondering if you would write some headcanons for Camilo, Luisa, Isabela, Mirabel and Bruno (don't know if ur comfortable writing for so much just in one so feel free to change) about how would they react if their s/o gave them the silent treatment after a fight, like how would they feel before, during and after the "punishment" thx so much ❤❤
thank you! my blog is indeed new, though i've been lurking around the encanto side of tumblr for about 2 weeks now. i included everyone that you asked for in this btw.
want to request? send me a request here or through dms! i will write for any of the encanto characters.
How Camilo, Luisa, Isabela, Mirabel, and Bruno Would React if Their gn s/o Gave Them The Silent Treatment
before / during the argument
he had taken a prank way too far for your liking
you can choose whatever he did that was too far
you were in his room when you confronted him about it
"hey, yk that prank you pulled was way to far" you calmly told him
"oh c'mon y/n, it's just a joke. really it isn't a big deal, don't take it so seriously" he would blow you off
and that pissed you off more than anything
"camilo, i just want an apology for it! the prank was way too far and you know it, it obviously upset me." you would say, irritated.
"it was just a harmless prank, what is there to apologize for? and why are you so angry?" he would throw his arms up in the air, he was mad now too.
you opened your mouth to speak but nothing came out
you were not going to keep telling him what the big deal was
he knew what the big deal was, and why he should apologize
so you were like nope
i'm giving him the silent treatment
during the silent treatment
you turned around to leave his room
"hey, where are you going?"
you didn't say anything, only sending him a glare, continuing to make your way out of his room
he followed you as you made your way towards the casita's door
a lot of the family was just sitting there watching you storm out
and they were just kinda like "ohh shit"
because they knew that this was probably going to put pepa in a bad mood
"c'mon y/n, wait!"
but you only walked right out the door
and camilo just kind of sat there staring at the door for a second
pepa would look at dolores, in hopes that she may have heard what happened
and of course she did
so she would lean in and whisper what happened to her mother
and a cloud would start forming above her head
pepa viewed you as her own
she absolutely adored you
so it definitely upset her when you and camilo would get in an argument
her and felix would be disappointed in camilo for not apologizing for hurting you
camilo couldn’t sleep good that night knowing he hurt you
and also knowing that you were giving him silent treatment
usually you guys didn’t get petty about arguments, plus you two were usually good at communicating through disagreements to keep you guys away from arguments
you kept the silent treatment going for 3 days
camilo would try to come and talk to you during his breaks between chores
but every time you would just glance up at him briefly and then get right back to what you were doing
after the silent treatment
on the fourth day, he came up you during one of his breaks like he has been for the past few days
you were tired of not getting to talk to him, after all you loved him
but, you weren’t going to stop until he wanted to apologize
you would glance over at the curly haired shapeshifter, but then go right back to what you were doing
“look at me... please? i need to talk to you.”
so you would look at him again
“look, i’m sorry...” he’d say, scratching his neck
you would turn around fully now, tilting your head, signaling him to go on
“i know my prank went way too far, you know it was never my intention to hurt you, i hate upsetting you.”
you’d smile and pull him into a hug
camilo’s tense form finally relaxed
you’d pull away but keep your arms around his neck
“i’m so glad i don’t have to keep this silent treatment up anymore.” you’d tell him with a giggle
“me too, i couldn’t stand it.”
“i love you.”
“i love you too, mi vida.” camilo whispered, placing a kiss on your lips
before / during the argument
you noticed that luisa was overdoing it again
so, you tried to have a talk with her about taking breaks when she needs, and stuff like that
but she kept denying it, claiming she was just fine
and you kept telling her that she wasn’t and that she needed to take rests when needed
finally she snapped at you
you were taken aback
luisa was never the one to snap or yell
she was always way more calm
you just slowly backed up a little
you decided to leave her to do her thing, you just headed back to your house.
during the silent treatment
luisa definitely felt bad for snapping at you
so after she finished her jobs for the day, she came to see if you were at your house
and she caught you right before you were about to walk in
you looked at her, your arms crossed
your posture looked angry, but your face looked upset
“i’m really sorry for snapping at you, you know i didn’t mean to.” luisa looked guilty, holding her arms open in hopes you would come into them
you really couldn’t stay mad at her
you knew she was just under a lot of pressure, she always felt like she had to keep going and going without breaks, feeling that it would weaken her in some way
after the silent treatment
“it’s okay, mi amor.” you told her as you walked into her arms
“i know you struggle with taking breaks and rests, but you deserve it you know? we all need to take breaks sometimes.” you continued
there was a brief silence
“thank you for always caring for me, it really means more than you know.” luisa whispered
“there’s no need to thank me luisa, i love you, and that’s just what you do when you love some one as much as i love you.”
before / during the argument
you two had been dating since about mid way through out her and mariano’s “relationship”
isa was so scared to tell her family though
she feared that abuela would never approve of your relationship
isa always had to be perfect
and that also included her relationship
abuela wanted her to marry well, possibly into a wealthy family
she also expected kids
so of course, you and her’s relationship was to stay hidden
and she promised you that she would break things off with mariano before things got to serious and tell the family about the two of you
and she did break things of with mariano, but not on her own terms as we all know
it was thanks to mirabel that they didn’t end up engaged
because honestly, you thought that her fear would make it go as far as the engagement
but even after the failed engagement, casita breaking down and being built again, her and mira setting mariano up with dolores, and her abuela becoming more accepting, isa still hadn’t told anyone about your relationship
and honestly at this point you were mad, tired, and kinda hurt by the whole thing
you were scared that maybe she was trying to keep you hidden because isa herself didn’t like your relationship anymore, and she just didn’t know how to break things off with you
so lets say you were sat on her bed one day
isa was still testing what other things she could make with her powers
so she was standing around, waving her hands as she tried to produce a different kind of plant
and it made you happy to watch her roam around freely making whatever plant she pleased now
but the whole relationship thing was still in the back of your mind
you decided that you needed to talk about it
she would turn around from what she was doing to face you
“so, have you decided when you are going to tell your family about us?” you’d ask her
her face expressed one of fear
she was still terrified of telling her family
because part of her still feared that they would reject you
not approve you
and that would hurt her more than anything
because she loved you
“no, not yet. i’m still trying to figure out how to.” she said as she nervously tucked a piece of hair behind her ear
“isa c’mon, there has never been a better time to do it than now!” you would say, throwing your arms up in the air
“look y/n, i’m trying to do it at a good time” she told you, her voice rising the slightest
you scoffed at that, standing now
“isabele now is a good time! i dont know when the hell it will be a good time for you if now isn’t. abuela is becoming more accepting and less strict, and you and mariano aren’t together anymore! when will it ever be a good time for you?!” your voice kept rising and rising, finally yelling out the last sentence
you were right in front of her now, looking at each other
her eyes became angry, but also hurt in a way
“i think you should leave.” she would say coldly, turning away from you
so you did, you left
during the silent treatment
she had tried to come see you later that day, and thats when she realized you were giving her the silent treatment
that night while isabela laid in bed, she was so angry
she thought that she was in the right here
but the longer she laid there, she realized that maybe you were right
now was a good time
she couldn’t just keep you a secret forever
and she didn’t like that she had upset you at all
or the fact that you wouldn’t speak to her
so the next morning she got up and told her mom and abuela that she wanted everyone to meet you over a dinner tomorrow tonight
and of course were fine with it
quite excited to meet you as well
her mom had met you before, she just thought thet two of you were best friends
isa was going to go find you to apologize but as she open the casita door, you were standing on the other side about to knock
“isa, i’m sorry. i was too harsh on you. this whole things just stresses me out. i just want your family to know me.” you told her, and apologetic look on your face
isabela pulled you in a hug
“no, no, you were right. it’s about time i get the guts to do it, i was just so nervous that they wouldn’t approve of you or something. but, i told them that i’d like to introduce them to you, so we’re having dinner tomorrow!”
“really?” you’d ask
isabela would nod her head with a smile
after the silent treatment
the dinner went great
the whole family really liked you
and they could tell that you made isa happy
and they could tell that you two really loved each other
before / during the argument
i cannot think of single argument idea for her
like why are we fighting with her
so, i’d say that when you two do fight (which is rarely), its just something really stupid and petty
during the silent treatment
you didn’t like giving her the silent treatment
and she didn’t either
so i feel like you two would make up pretty fast
after the silent treatment
you’d come back to casita and apologize
and of course she would accept it
and apologize too
and she would cuddle you because she felt bad about the whole situation
before / during the argument
honestly idk what the argument would be about
so you can come up with that and be creative with it
during the silent treatment
this poor man
nobody would see him come out of his room while you were giving him the silent treatment
he would just in there and cry
bruno took the whole thing really hard
he was def on the edge the entire time
he really thought that this could be the end
that you wouldn’t want to be with him anymore
but obvi you were just trying to cool off from the whole situation
(lets say your his wife/husband here)
you’d stay in the town the whole day, helping with whatever you could, just so you wouldn’t have to see bruno
and at dinner you wouldn’t even look at him
you’d try to stay away from seeing him
you were pretty mad
not even sleeping with him bed at night
you opted to bunk with mirabel
and obviously she didn’t mind
and she would really be comforting to talk about the whole argument with
and she would actually encourage you to go talk about it with bruno
and you did
because you knew that she was right
after the silent treatment
you’d go knock on his door
and he wouldn’t answer until you told him it was you
that door opened faster than you have ever seen it open
and he would start to ramble out apologies
and you would shush him
“bruno stop, it’s ok, i forgive you. i blew the whole thing out of proportion.”
that night he held you so tight
as if he let go you might leave
pls never give this man the silent treatment again
he does not handle it well
𖥻 FLOWER BOY ft. camilo madrigal x gn!reader
— tw/cw: none!
— synopsis: just him being a lovesick dork.
Camilo watched as you happily conversed with his mother inside his home, suggesting decoration ideas for Antoñio’s incoming gift ceremony while also trying to calm the woman down at the same time.
You looked effortlessly beautiful. All he wanted to do was call you his. Though that’s to much to ask.
So with a heavy sigh, he left Casita to go out for a breath of fresh air. Walking towards the back yard of his home.
Sitting down ontop the grassy surface, he tucked his knees under his chin as he picked a flower from beside him. “Y/n loves me, they love me not, Y/n loves me...” He continued until no petals remained, “They love me not.” He grumbled, picking up another flower to try again. And again. And again.
“Okay! This is my last chance. I’ve plucked everything near me if this doesn’t work I swear!” With a concentrated look, he tries one last time.
“Y/n loves me, they love me not, they love-“
Camilo froze, craining his head slowly behind him. Ultimately making him face to face with you who had bent down slightly. A small smile curled your lips as you straightened out, but not before ruffling the boys curls. “You’ve been out here for a while, Cariño. Pepa asked me to call you in for dinner.” With that, you left.
Leaving behind an embarrassed, flustered, and suprised Camilo Madrigal.

"La Familia Madrigal! Welcome!" Senor L/N welcomed the family with open arms as they entered their courtyard at home.
What's the occasion? It was the 20th birthday of the eldest son in the family! He didn't want a grand event, but his sibling, Y/N insisted on it, saying that a transition from being a teen to an adult is as important as they think it should be.
Y/N along with their parents decided to prepare a grand (but not Madrigal grand) type of party at their smaller but still spacious house and the magical family was invited, of course. They were the ones that took care of the Encanto and it was a given that they'd be part of the celebration, too.
After hearing the voices of the Madrigals, Y/N immediately dashed out the door to welcome them. "I'm glad you guys made it! Welcome to mi casa that's surprisingly clean for the first time!" Y/N's father only scoffed at their playful teasing.
Mirabel laughed at the two. "You really outdid yourself on this Y/N, you have a knack for party planning."
"Well, I've learned from the best! Now come! I'll show you guys to the rest of mi familia!"
"This is by far the second best party I've been in, no offense to Y/N but nothing ever beats a Madrigal party." Isabela commented, glancing at the decorations while she sat in a table reserved for her family.
"For a family that doesn't have magic, this could be the best. I mean they did this without our help and its this grand and colorful already." Mirabel said in response, taking a sip of apple juice from a champagne tulip glass.
Isabela thought in turn, "True, I heard Y/N planned most of it. Dolores said they haven't slept since yesterday." Her curly haired sister nodded in response. "I kinda feel bad, but it's still worth it. Feels nice for our family to not be the focus of a grand celebration once in a while."
Isabela scoffed. "Tell me about it, I can finally enjoy a party without having to dance around people and putting flowers on their heads."
Hearing footsteps approaching them, a boy in a yellow ruana suddenly barged in to their conversation and sat in an empty seat beside Mirabel. "Guys, have you tried their bocadillo con queso? This shit bangs." Camilo said as he held out the treat in front of their faces.
"Yeah! Y/N made it using mami's recipe." Mirabel responded, stealing part of Camilo's portion.
"THATS MINE! Get your own plate, Mira!" But it was too late, Mirabel already took a bite of the snack, leading Camilo to sulk.
Isabela laughed at the chaotic duo in front of her. "Camilo can't you just get another plate full of those? Be a gentleman for once"
"I am a gentleman!" Isabela rolled her eyes at his response. Camilo continued "Okay fine I'll get another plate, but it's only for me, you can have the rest of these."
He stood up from the table, shapeshifting into Y/N's little sister, Sara.
"Really? Out of all the people you can shift to, its the 4 year old sister?"
Camilo grunted, still in Sara's form. "Hey! Cuteness always gets the advantage! And plus, she isn't here so its not suspicious." He stuck out his tongue as he walked away to approach the buffet table.
Approaching the buffet table, Camilo tugged at the catering chef's apron, realizing that he couldn't reach the food at his height. Mimicking the little girl's voice, he asked "Can I have more bocadillo con queso, pleaseee?" Not forgetting to show puppy eyes and pouting for the staff.
The man in turn, smiled at the 'kid', not realizing that it was the shapeshifter in town. "Ay, anything for you niñita. Hold on". He grabbed a plate and then proceeded to take the delicious snacks while 'Sara' stands there waiting.
"Hermana! I haven't seen you all night!" Oh shit.
'Sara' glanced at the right and saw Y/N approaching 'her'. Trying to flee in panic, 'Sara' tried to run only for Y/N's taller stature to catch and scoop the 'little girl' in their arms.
Camilo, still in 'Sara's' form took a glance at their table, seeing Mirabel and Isabela hold back their laughs at the sight. He took a small inch of a second to glare at them before looking back at Y/N who was way too close to his face right now.
"Trying to run from me again huh? Now you can't escape!" Y/N, oblivious to the situation, started peppering kisses on the 'little girl's face. Camilo who was still in the child's form was frozen, not being able to shapeshift back to the Camilo Madrigal because well, they were carrying him and the shift of weight would lead to a fatal accident.
Y/N was obviously affectionate to their little sister, so kissing and hugging her was not a big deal. The only thing, was that it wasn't actually their 'sister'.
The shapeshifter however was in a flustered mess.
Suddenly, Y/N felt a pat in their leg. Looking down, they glanced at their real sister.
"Y/N, Can you help find mami for m-?" The real Sara said, but paused at the sight of another 'her' in Y/N's arms.
"Sara?!" Y/N finally realized, looking back and forth at the identical girls around them.
The fake Sara then was seen trembling in front of them, still frozen and stunned. "If there's two Saras, and the real one is beside me..." 'Sara' then gave a mischievous but nervous smile,
"CAMILO?!" Dropping him in an instant, Camilo shifted back to himself after landing on the ground with his butt. To which, he yelped in response.
The real Sara was found laughing at the sight. Y/N only looked at him in disbelief while yelling "What were you doing?!?!"
The curly-haired boy finally stood up. "I just wanted to get more food and here you came kissing me!"
"You shifted into my sister! How was I supposed to know?"
Camilo turned silent as his hand reached up the back of his neck. "I guess its kinda my fault.- Uhm, I gotta go, bye!" Glancing back at his now filled plate, he just immediately grabbed it and ran to his table.
Y/N was a flustered mess, mind blank but their heart was pacing fast. Sara held their hand and pulled them down to whisper "You just kissed your crush!". The older one, put a hand on the little girls mouth. "Shush! Don't say it or I won't help you. Now lets go".
Both the siblings turned away from the buffet table, walking away to the other side. One was a giggling mess while the other had an actual mess, chaos, and war in their head.
"So, how'd your master plan go?" Isabela asked, trying to hold back her laugh.
"SHUT UP! At least I have my damn food right now." Camilo sulked as he sat down, hastily shoving food in his mouth in embarrassment.
"Yeah, and he said cuteness always gets the advantage." Isabela said in response, nudging Mirabel who was bursting with laugher.
“I mean, he did get an advantage, it’s not everyday your crush gets to lift and kiss you all over at a par-” Mirabel was interrupted by Camilo throwing a napkin in her face. “I SAID SHUT UP” He cried, while Isabela’s laugh got louder.
"By the way, Camilo" He looked up, looking at his cousins.
"What is it now Isa?"
"There's lipstick ALL over your face."
Root beer Float ( Camilo x Reader )
When you had ultimately decided to live in Columbia and leave the states your boyfriend's one request was to bring back some foods he could try so you did! You brought back (well mailed back since airport security would lose their minds over how much you brought) various candies, sodas, and chips.
So to say he was over the moon excited when the package of goodies had finally arrived was an understatement. He was practically bouncing off the walls as he hauled it into the kitchen whilst you took out the empanadas Julieta left for the two of you to eat for lunch, in the oven.
“This is heavy, Qué hay aquí?” he questioned as he sat it atop the tiled countertop. With a mischievous smile, you took a knife letting the sharp part of the blade split through the small opening between the two flaps, and took out the contents.
“Lots of stuff.” You told him as you placed all the items on the countertop whilst casita moved them into storage spaces around the kitchen. Once you got towards the end of what was in it you grabbed the two-liter bottle of root beer and moved to get two cups not saying a word to your boyfriend who was watching in wonder.
After pouring the drink into two cups you made your way to the freezer where the Madrigals kept a tube of Ice cream from the city just out of Encanto just for you.
“What are you doing?” Cam asked as he peeked over your shoulder grimacing a bit as he watched you put the vanilla ice cream into the cup with the soda.
“It’s a root beer float, here try it.” You turned around swiftly pushing the cup into his hands to which he nearly spills on his poncho before taking a whiff of the sugary drink.
“esto huele a mucha diabetes”
You shook your head with a smile watching as he drank the contents of the cup getting a bit of ice cream on his top lip.
“So what’d you think?”
He looks from the cup, up to you, and back down to the cup.
“You Americans have the weirdest stuff.”
this is so stupid lmao 💀 but i was with the idea struck while drinking a rbf, anyways my request are open for encanto!! i write for all characters and will even write for poly relationships with pepa/felix as well as Julieta/Agustin
taglist (to be added fill out this form !!! xxxxx )
I feel like Camilo would probably feel insecure in a relationship, like he feels like they could choose someone better than him.
i agree w this one ! makes sm sense with his character
camilo is familiar with many faces. he's seen so many people, hell, he's been so many people. camilo knows so many who are better than him.
there's rafael down the street, with a perfect smile and a passion for music. there's gabriel in the center of town who makes perfect meals and has a heart of gold.
catalina by the mountains runs a candle-making shop and keeps good company. adriana who lives by the riverbank knows how to spin an intriguing tale and is always down to meet someone new.
his point is- there were so many more suitable people in encanto. so many people were better for you than he was. he would never be as talented as rafael or as welcoming as catalina. he would never be as good as them.
he would never be as good as you, either. in his eyes, you were the embodiment of perfection, a deity in your own sense. you were gifted in more ways than he could ever dream of knowing.
you were a mythical thing and he was just himself. maybe one day, he feared, you would realize it and leave him all alone to be his own 1/2 a person like he usually was.
everytime he saw you he felt like this- it was a mix of love and affection and insecure spite. he knew it was stupid. he knew he was pathetic. but what was he meant to do?
one night, he broke. his façade dropped, his fabricated confidence fell apart. he confessed to you then, his fear of losing you, narrating how he never felt quite good enough.
and oh, was he so glad he told you, because the way you hugged him was something special. he felt all your warmth, the energy and love that pooled in your heart and soul connect to his and he knew, in that moonlit moment, that you loved him too much to let go.
send me headcannons!

Summary: Camilo drags you out into the cold to build a snowman.
“(Y/N)!” Your boyfriend pounces on you.
You shriek. “Camilo! What in the world!?”
Camilo lies down beside you. “(Y/N), guess what.”
Camilo scowls. “Fine. It’s snowing!” His grin pops back on his face.
You scrunch up your nose. “Ew.”
“‘Ew’!?” Camilo looks offended. “What do you mean, ‘ew’?”
“I mean snow is cold, wet, and disgusting, and I’m still tired.” You pull the covers over your head.
“(Y/N/N)!” Camilo whines, pulling them away from you. “Please?” he begs. “I wanna make a snowman!”
You sigh, looking into his puppy-dog eyes. “Fine,” you relent.
“Yay!” Camilo kisses you on the lips.
“But as soon as I say I wanna go in, we go in.”
Camilo nods solemnly, eyes wide. “C’mon, let’s go!” He pulls you out of bed and you stumble behind him as he rushes you into heavy winter clothes and drags you into the snow.
“It’s freezing!” you groan, rubbing your heavily layered arms.
Camilo rolls his eyes. “Oh, come on, we’ve barely even gotten outside. And you have like ten layers on.”
“I’m still cold.” You pout.
Camilo shakes his head with a laugh and grabs your hand. “We’ll make a snowman and then we’ll go inside. Deal?”
“Deal,” you respond glumly. You help him roll up a humongous ball of snow and then another that’s slightly smaller. By the time you’ve made the snowman’s head, you’re actually enjoying your time out in the cold. “I’ll go get a carrot, a hat, a scarf and some buttons!” you call out, running inside and coming back out with said items.
Camilo puts a stick on each side of the snowman’s body and helps you stick the other items into the snow. “All right, I guess we can go inside now,” he says, admiring your work.
Your expression falls. “Aw. I don’t want to anymore.”
Camilo smirks. “Really?” He shapeshifts into you. “Cold is wet and cold and disgusting,” he mimics before turning back into himself.
“I changed my mind!” you protest.
Camilo tsks. “I suppose we could stay out for a little while longer.”
“Yay!” You squeeze him into a hug and he laughs, shaking his head as you throw yourself into the cold white powder.
Maybe snow isn’t so bad after all.
carlos madrigal headcanons
Carlos was born a few minutes after Camilo and unlike his brother who had given his parents a smile once he was born, Pepa and Felix received a glare from the younger twin.
Him, Camilo, and Mirabel were close whilst growing up and would often hang out with one another.
Even though he’s the youngest, Carlos would be the one who acts as if he’s the more mature one.
“Camilo, Mirabel, don’t get yourselves into trouble.”
“We won’t, Carlito.” Eye twitching because he doesn’t like nicknames but he’ll make exceptions.
While Carlos was Carlito, Camilo is Camilito. It was cute. They matched.
Upon getting his powers, he wouldn’t be like Camilo who was eager to help the town. He had developed a dislike for the townspeople of Encanto after shunning his Tio Bruno.
He doesn’t do Camilo’s little twirl when he shifts into someone else. He just stands there menacingly. It’s a bit unnerving.
While Camilo is a theatre kid, Carlos is more of a sportsy type of kid. Often he excels in sports related activities but his lack of motivation to do anything plus his short temper makes it hard for him to play team sports.
Regularly gets into fights with boys his age because unlike Camilo, he isn’t the type to make people smile with his gift. He’s the type to create chaos.
That being said he once tried to blow out the candle for not giving Mirabel a gift.
He sticks close to Mirabel just in case someone teases her for having no gift.
He would pull a knife on them.
“Mirabel? Delivery! I gave you the “special” since you’re the only Madrigal kid with no gift. I call it the “not special” special. Since uh, since you have no gift.”
Cue a click of a pocket knife.
“You want me to remove that gut of yours, Osvaldo?”
He’s definitely Alma’s least favorite because he doesn’t help as much and doesn’t use his gift much to honor the miracle. He could care less though.
Carlos deemed that the townspeople weren’t worthy of helping after knowing about his Tio Bruno from his sister Dolores.
He would still often get mistaken for Camilo which he isn’t thrilled about no matter how much he loved his brother.
He would wear more darker colors, heavily contrasting Camilo’s bright yellows with dark or burnt oranges.
The two slits on his eyebrows weren’t intentional.
After getting into a fistfight with someone who bullied Mirabel, he had acquired a wound on his eyebrow from the impact of their punches. Which he had returned tenfold. Rather than letting Julieta heal it, he allowed it to heal naturally despite many protests.
This would later become the two slits you see on his eyebrow and a way on how to tell Camilo and him apart.
Carlos has a beauty mark on the left side of his chin next to his lower lip.
He also has heterochromia. His right eye is brown while the left eye is green.
Unlike Camilo who is more into acting and plays, Carlos is more into musical instruments and plays the tiple.
He doesn’t get into fights often but when he does he’s giving it his all. If you say some shit about his family, best watch your back.
He loves his family but he has his own way of showing it.
His voice is Camilo's Italian VA
Definitely knows about his uncle inside the walls because Dolores babbles about his Tio's telenovelas.
Cries along with Dolores when the main character rat he was rooting for gets killed off.
Probably the least pressured of the Madrigals since he could care less about helping the town.
Has the tough guy exterior going on but he does care.
Definitely gets on Alma's nerves.
After Casita gets rebuilt, he may be helpful at times.. only if he's up for it.
Still a menace.

reader and camilo go to casitas roof to get away from unnecessary chores. reader realizes they have a hair elastic on them, so they put camilos hair in a bun.
camilo madrigal x gender neutral (no pronouns used) reader
no warnings only fluff :)
sometimes, you and camilo needed a break. camilo doing his chores, you following around him as if you were forced to be his helper—it got tiring. though you couldnt do everything camilo could, you still helped him with everything he did, which wore you both out. which is why you both decided to hide up on casitas roof, in a place no one will try to look for either of you if they need you.
camilos head laid in your lap while you leaned against one of the houses outter walls behind you. it was peaceful up here—just you and him, away from the noise of the village, away from the people calling your names every few minutes, away from everyone else. you ran your hand through his hair, admiring each curl that looped around your fingers at the gentle pulls.
you two had been up here a few times, after learning that camilos room was the first place people would look for you guys if you disappeared, and were never bothered, or even found by anyone. it was becoming a safe place for the both of you, where you could be yourselves and not deal with your lives.
and casita never snitched on where you two were to anyone, which made it even better. the only time the house ever bothered the two of you up here was when it was important.
you couldnt stop listening to camilos shallow breaths below you. he sounded so calm like this—his eyes were closed, muscles completely relaxed. at some point he had reached for your free hand, his thumb rubbed the back of your hand so gently you could barely feel it.
you looked from your conjoined hands back to his hair, and noticed the hair elastic you'd completely forgotten was on your wrist. an idea came to mind..
squeezing camilos hand lightly, you let go and ran both of your hands into his hair. he let out a content sigh, you smiled.
you started shaping his hair rather than just playing with it, pulling it back and combing your fingers through it to get as much hair into a bunch as possible.
"what're you doin'?" he asked quietly, opening one eye and tilting his head to look at you.
"man bun." you stated simply.
"excuse me?" he said, sounding almost offended.
you chuckled, "i'm putting your hair in a bun."
he relaxed his head again and let you continue. you held his hair in one hand and pulled the elastic over it, wrapping it around once, then twice, and that was all his curls needed to be tight enough to stay.
camilo opened his eyes again when he felt your hands leave his hair.
"i look pretty hot, dont i?" he smirked playfully.
"mm.. you look pretty, not sure about the hot part, though.. maybe another time." you smiled at him and watched his face fall into a faux frown. you giggled at him, and his expression was quick to change back to a grin.
"am i pretty enough to kiss?" he puckered his lips at you, fluttering his eyelashes overdramatically.
you leaned down close to him, and looking into his eyes, you murmured, "constantly," before pressing a gentle, loving kiss to his lips. camilo snaked his arms around your neck and held you into the kiss, his head tilting up to deepen it as best he could.
you leaned back, he pouted.
"as much as i love you, and i love kissing you, that position is uncomfortable as hell." you stared down at the pout that was still on his lips, then smooshed his cheeks with your hand. "you're cute when you pout."
camilo scrunched his nose and furrowed his eyebrows, faking annoyance.
"can you just kiss me again? please?"
"maybe.." you dragged the word out, pursing your lips together.
camilo sat up with a huff and turned around to face you. he crawled onto your lap and put his hands on your cheeks. you admired him—the way stray hairs that didnt quite make it into the bun were framing his face, how nice he looked with his hair all pulled back like that.. god, he was so pretty.. he was like eye candy. you didnt want to pull your eyes away from him.
your lips formed a lovesick smile as he pulled you into another kiss. you rested your arms on his shoulders and took the small amount of control in the situation, pressing multiple pecks to his lips, looking into his eyes and smiling between them, muttering quiet compliments about how pretty he was.
"i love you." camilo spoke between a few of your pecks.
you held a longer kiss, then pulled back, "love you too, mi amor."
just as you went to lean back in, casita began dancing around you two. then, tuning back into the world outside of just you both, you heard a call that dinner was ready.
one last kiss, and you were heading down from the roof.. much less voluntarily, as casitas tiles were pushing you both to get going.
he only got a few teasing comments about his hair.

summary: you like to watch from afar the madrigal family, quietly observing their magical nature as they bring life into your tiny village. unbeknownst to you, a certain madrigal noticed you, too.
Despite the obvious openness, Camilo opted to have his room off-limits to most of the people that lived in the house.
For you, however, he seemed to bend that reasoning.
"Princesa, don't worry," Camilo seemed to not be able to contain the giggles that slipped through his mouth as he watched you nervously pace around his room, a look of fright overtaking your features as you nervously nibbled on your bottom lip, "My family adores you."
"I just," You stopped, looking at him as you gave up, shuffling along so that you sat at the edge of his bed, "I don't want to be intrusive, or anything."
Camilo's eyes widened at that, quickly overtaking your frame in a large hug, shaking his head profusely in the crook of his neck at your statement.
"Mi amor, come on, do you seriously think that? Do you realize my tío Bruno lived in the walls for most of his adult years?" You let out a breathy laugh at that, and Camilo smiled, his hands holding you close to his chest as he put his chin atop yours.
"Are you sure, Camilo? I don't want anybody irritated with me." You muttered, skin growing hotter as his fingers drew little patterns on the fabric atop your waist.
"Y/n," He gingerly kissed atop your head, and you knew that when he dropped the nicknames he was being serious, "Nobody is irritated with you, no matter what you think."
And with that you felt your chest ease, your breathing calm down a bit as you let Camilo trace shapes onto your skin, the calmness his room offered leaving the two of you in another sense of tranquility.
"Camilo?" You looked up at the ground, your heart beating rapidly, how it normally seemed to do whenever you were around him.
"Yes?" His thumb moved up and down your arm, not noticing how the small act helped you relax.
"I love you," You whispered, hiding your flaming face inside his chest as you felt it rumble beneath you, his hands trailing down your spine, hugging you closer to him if it even is possible.
"Honestly, princesa, do you know how much I love you?"
And those few were enough for you to completely collapse on him, mind reeling, heart fluttering, eyes squeezing shut as you fell in love with him even more.
After that, you tried your best to ease whenever you were around his family.
When some time passed, you felt his words getting to you, seeing that maybe, perhaps, it was all in your head.
You noticed how Isabella also got you a bouquet whenever you passed her by, placing little flowers atop your head as she cooed when she saw Camilo slinging his arm across your shoulder.
And you noticed how quick Luisa was to help you lift the dirty plates off the table, ruffling your head when you thanked her profusely, telling you that it was 'no problem, Hermosa, we're all just glad to have you here,' and leaving after that.
Perhaps the most fearsome of them all, Abuelita Alma, seemed to approve of you, nodding in acceptance when you scolded Camilo for taking Dolores's arepas, and smiling softly to herself when Camil pulled out your chair for you, kissing your forehead before he went to sit down.
"Princesa, can you pass me the patacones, por favor?" Camilo leaned in towards your side, whispering in your ear to make sure that those around him would hear.
Save for Dolores, of course.
You nodded, giving him a small smile as you gripped the dish in front of you, passing it towards him as he muttered a thank you, flashing you a grin as he took it.
The two of you didn't notice how the table had fallen hushed, multiple sets of eyes on the two of you as you two quietly spoke to each other, leaning towards one another as the other whispered in the other's ears, lovesick smiles growing on your faces.
Señora Pepa squealed, her husband having to shush her as the two of you looked up to see what the sound was.
"Aye, Camilito and Y/n! Oh, my heart," She had to pound her chest, her sister having to calm her down as the both of you ducked your heads, looking away from the scene in embarrassment as everybody else was quick to jump on the two of you.
"It looks like there might be another Madrigal in the family in the future!" Isabella said excitedly, clapping her hands as she and Maribel conversed some things with one another.
Camilo tried his best to calm them down but the talking kept getting louder and louder, so much so that Dolores quickly excused herself, and soon Camilo gripped your hand underneath the table, tugging it towards him as he pointed his head towards the door, quietly slipping away from the scene as the two of you left.
It happened from time to time, so it's not as if you were shocked, but it never failed to fluster you whenever the Madrigals gushed over you and Camilo.
"'M sorry about that, they're just enthusiastic, you know," He explained, his cheeks twinged red as he peeked over at you, hoping they hadn't overwhelmed you yet.
But you just shook your head, a giggle falling from your lips, soon growing into a loud laugh as you threw your head back, clutching your stomach.
Camilo didn't know what he had said that made you laugh this much, in fact, he can't remember ever seeing you this carefree, but seeing it made him fall for you all over again.
"It's okay, Camilo, it's endearing. I like it," You promised him, squeezing his hand as he kiss the back of yours, tugging you into his chest, where it seemed that you're two bodies were made for each other as you fit so perfectly in his arms.
The two of you didn't say anything for a while, admiring the picturesque view the house gave of the town as you sighed contently, holding him close to you, never wanting to let go, not wanting to escape from the warm furnace he seemed to be.
You hoped that Camilo couldn't tell that way your hand was shaking, nor the way your blood seemed to warm up when he held you so tight to his side.
And Camilo hoped you couldn't see his cheeks blush a deep red, his lovesick smile goofy enough to make anyone swoon at the two of you.
And everybody else who peeked their head around the corner, shushing each other up as they swooned, hands gripping at their chests as Camilo whispered little jokes into your ear, his smile growing wider as you giggled softly in his hands.
The Madrigals held magic unknown, but even the moon and its stars seemed to be falling short in the way you two measured your love for each other.

summary: Pepa and Felix sit down and look back at different times in your’s and Camilo’s relationship. They realize just how similar you guys are to them.
They're Like Us
(gif not mine)
Pepa and Felix loved Camilo and you. They absolutely adored your guy's relationship. Even before you were a couple, they knew that you two would end up being together. They sat at a table now, watching you two.
"Do you remember when they first met?" Felix asked.
"Yes, of course. It feels like it was just yesterday." Pepa nodded with a smile.
It was his gift ceremony, during the party. You were both 5 years old.
People were everywhere, lots of people chatting, music playing. You stood with Mirabel, talking, dancing, laughing.
"Mira, what do you think your gift will be?" You asked her, swaying around a little bit to the music.
"I don't know. I'm so excited for mine though!" She told you excitably.
Camilo saw you from where he stood in his room. He had see you around the casita before, he just never came around to say hi. He thought you were so fun and kind looking, and also really pretty. He started walking up to you and Mira, what was a better time than now to introduce himself to you.
"Hi Mira! Hi y/n!"
You turned to face him with childish grin.
"Hi Camilo." You said.
Mirabel waved at him with a smile.
And from there, you guys became best friends almost instantly. You two kept each other in balance.
"They were so precious." Pepa reminisced, a small rainbow appearing above her head.
Felix nodded, agreeing with his wife as he took a sip of his drink.
"Oh, and remember the time he asked her out?" Pepa piped, clapping her hands in excitement.
"Cami was so nervous." Felix laughed.
It was your 13th birthday. The weather was perfect, thanks to Pepa's excitement due to her son’s plan to ask you out. Camilo's family loved you like their own, so much so that they insisted to throw you a birthday party at the casita. Camilo was a mess before your arrival, he had to make sure every single thing was perfect. The flowers had to be your favorite kind of flower, the decor had to be your favorite colors, the music had to be the best. The family happily obliged in making everything perfect. So, Camilo got to relax for a moment, until it was time for the party, which meant it was time to ask you out. He tried to keep himself calm so he wouldn’t start randomly shifting, but it didn’t work for long. About 45 minutes into the party, he started shifting out of nerves.
“Cami, what’s wrong?” You asked him, a concerned look on your face.
He looked at you with wide eyes.
“Uh, no, nothing’s wrong.” Camilo stuttered, fidgeting with his hands.
You tilted your head to the side.
“You’re lying. I know something is wrong, you’re shifting out of nerves.” You told him.
He let out a small sigh, grabbing your hand and leading you to a less crowded part of the casita.
“Okay so y/n, I love you, more than a friend. I’ve felt this way for a while now.” Camilo admitted to you.
You smiled at him, holding both of his hands.
“I love you too.” You confessed.
Camilo let out a sigh of relief as he pulled you in a for a quick hug.
“That’s what had you all worked up?” You giggled.
Camilo nodded as he swayed you around to the music.
“Well...” He said, spinning you around.
“You’re my best friend, my beautiful best friend. The girl who is always there for me. The girl I love. I don’t think I would have been able to handle rejection from you.” Camilo told you, pulling you back towards him.
“You’re so cheesy.” You laughed, kissing him on the cheek.
A tint of red appeared on his cheeks. “I mean it.” He smiled.
“Aww Cami! You did it!” Pepa came from behind the stairs, a rainbow over her head, a big smile on her face, and her arms held open.
“Mami!” Camilo groaned with embarrassment, covering his face with his hands.
“He did it. That’s my boy!” Felix happily came out from behind the stairs.
“I heard the whole thing from the nursery!” Dolores exclaimed coming down the stairs, holding Antonio.
Camilo groaned louder as Pepa and Dolores came to hug you.
“He was so mad at us for eavesdropping.” Felix smiled.
Pepa thought for a moment.
“You know, they’re like us.” Pepa pointed out.
“Oh yeah?” Felix questioned.
“Yes, remember when he first noticed their height difference? Just like us.”
Felix nodded with a grin. “Oh, how could I forget that.”
It was a summer afternoon. You and Camilo were hanging out with MIrabel, just chatting as you walked around the town. Until Mira noticed something.
“Camilo, is y/n taller than you?” She asked, stopping in her tracks.
He looked at Mira with a confused look, and then back to you.
“Wait...” He said, trying to process it.
You used your hand to check.
“I am taller than you!” You exclaimed, a bit shocked.
“Oh, c’mon.” He groaned.
“She is, by like an inch and a half!” Mira giggled.
“We’re like your mami and papa, love!” You observed happily.
He smiled at that, he always dreamed of having a relationship like his parents. Maybe just not the height difference though.
“Oh my goodness, yes! C’mon we need to go show them.” Mira told you.
You nodded and started making your way to the casita. When you got in you all saw her at the top of the stairs.
“Tía Pepa look! Camilo and y/n have a height difference just like you and tío Felix!” Mirabel told her excitedly. Pepa came down the stairs to look for herself.
She stopped in front of you two.
“It’s true! Camilo, you are like your papi! Felix, come look!” She shouted.
Felix came from the kitchen.
“They’re so cute.” She said as she placed her hands over her chest.
“Oh c’mon, I’m not that much shorter!” Camilo claimed.
Pepa glanced at him before going in to hug you both.
“I guess you’re just short, mi vida.” You teased, kissing him on the cheek.
He only rolled his eyes in response
“They calm each other down too. Just like how I calm you down.” Felix mentioned.
Pepa nodded with a soft smile.
Though Camilo’s gift was, well, a gift, it wasn’t always good. His gift often brought him problems. He would often feel dysphoric, or didn’t feel as if he knew himself very well or who he was. When Camilo had these episodes, he could be in his room for days. No one could calm him down either, he didn’t want any of his family to see him like that, even his mami. Pepa sit outside his doors sometimes when this happened, begging him to let her come in, though he never did. Camilo didn’t want to upset her with his own issues. You were the only person he would let in. After Pepa would attempt to get in, her only other option was to get you. So, she would go find you, and tell you what was wrong, and of course you drop everything you were doing and come with her. She would stop you at his door, and back up a little with her hands held together, nodding for you to go on. You knocked on the door lightly.
“Camilo, it’s me. Can you open the door please?” You shouted.
There was a pause for a moment before the door cracked open, you sent Pepa a soft smile before going in.
Camilo was sat by the door, knees tucked up to his chest. You took a seat on the floor next to him, laying your head on his shoulder. You decided that letting him speak first would be the best move.
“What do you see when you look at me.” He sniffled.
You lifted your head to look at him.
“I see my boyfriend, my best friend, my favorite person in the world. With your curly hair that I like to play with, your freckles that I like to kiss, your nose that I like to boop, and your mouth that I love to see smile, that smile that I can’t stand to not see.” You explained to him.
He muttered a thank you as he hugged you.
“I love you, mi amor.” He told you with a small smile.
You placed a kiss on his forehead. “I love you too. Now c’mon, lunch is ready.”
Camilo grabbed your hand as you both stood up and walked out of his room. A look of relief came over Pepa as she saw the two of you. The three of you walked down to lunch together.
“They’re perfect for each other.” Felix smiled.
“They make each other so happy. I love to watch them be so in love with each other.” Pepa hummed contently.
The two of them watched you guys now. You guys were laying against a tree, Camilo holding you in his arms. Both of you asleep.
“I guess we should go wake them up for dinner?” Felix suggested
𖥻 CAT LUCK. ft. camilo madrigal w/ gn!reader
— tw/cw: none!
— synopsis: dubbed as the gem of encanto, nobody was really surprised when have both men and women at your feet practically begging to be the lucky star that you’ll choose to be your partner. this, of course, was quite a nuisance to you. afterall, you have your eyes on something much brighter than a gem.
A black cat. All you need is to catch Y/n’s beloved companion and bring it back to them. That’s all you need to do in order for you to snatch the keys to their heart.
This golden news spread fast amongst people of Encanto. Even parents were helping their children catch the damned feline just for the one and only Y/n L/n. Traps were scattered everywhere, from ropes to cages, everyone did everything they could in order to have you.
How could they not? You were perfect! Dare they say, even more so than Isabela. Though the said Madrigal had no complaints, who was she to object? You do hold up to your title afterall.
Everyone was absolutely smitten by you. And Camilo Madrigal was no exception.
“Y/n!” You turned around, meeting a familiar figure running towards you. Letting a smile creep out, you stayed put until the freckled boy was finally infront of you. “Hola, Camilo. Is there something you need help with?” You spoke, tone dripping with your usual kindness. And of course, he couldn’t miss how you said his name, it’s was an indescribable melody.
Noticing the boy starting at you without a word, you waved a hand infront of his face, trying to catch his attention. “I know I’m amazing and all, but you need to answer my question, perrito.”
At this, Camilo’s cheeks dusted pink, turning away from you with a pout. “Don’t call me that.” He rolled his eyes, playfully acting annoyed which caused a light laugh from you.
“Ay, so the teaser can’t be teased?” You let out another amused chuckle.
“Whatever,” he mumbled, before pulling an envelope from under his ruana. “I’m just here to tell you that you’ve received a letter.” He reached his arm out, an evident earger glint in his eyes. “Guess it’s from one of your many suitors.” He spoke, growing anxious once he noticed how your brows quickly furrowed and how your lips tugged into a frown. Clearly not pleased.
“Oh.” Was the only thing you said, clearly giving no signs of wanting to take the piece of paper.
So you two just stood there for a moment, before Camilo swiftly shoved it down his pocket with an embarrassed look. “S-so... I heard people out here were trying to catch your cat.” He tried to ease the on coming awkwardness, shifting the topic away from the letter.
“Yeah. They’ve been pretty brutal about it too.” You sighed, remembering the large mouse trap shaped trap you saw sitting in the middle of the woods, clearly waiting for your feline companion to aimlessly get caught in it.
Though luckily, he’s smarter than that.
“But Celesto can handle it, he’s a great boy.” You added with a proud smile etched onto your lips. “Though i do hope they’ll stop obsessing over me. I have my eye on someone already, afterall.”
And with that, Camilo only deflated more than before. “Oh, you do?” He spoke solemnly, looking at you, he could tell you’re very serious about this person. The passionate gleam in your eyes says it all. “Mhm, I consider them as my sun. It sounds weird, but they just brighten up my day like no other.” You gushed, heat rising to your cheek.
“They’re a lucky fella, huh?” He forced out a laugh, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
You were about to reply, but the call of his name cut your conversation short. He swore he saw a disappointed expression flash on your face. But it might just be wishful thinking. “Well, you’re needed out there.” You nudged him, a warm smile evident on your lips before finally walking away. “Talk to you later!”
And with that, he could only watch you walk away from him with a love sick look on his face.
The freckled boy was tired, with all the chores he had just finished, he thought he deserved a well needed break. And what better place to relax than in the comfort of mother nature.
He was about to doze off on one of the forest trees, when a sudden rustling was heard just beside him. He jolted up, eyes narrowing at the rustling bush.
As seconds passed by he grew anxious, what if it’s something dangerous? A wolf? A bear? Hell, a rabid rabbit?!
The bush shook more violently than before, so with that, he clutched the ends of his ruana tightly, crinckling the envelope that was hidden under it. Grabbing a nearby stick, he pointed it defensively at the possible offender.
But then, without a warning, it pounced. It leaped towards him with such quickness he wasn’t able to defend himself. Falling back he noticed a black blurr in his vision, the deadly animal was atop of him. Though it was small, it was terrible, its paws gripped on his ruana before letting out a deadly, bloodcurdling-... purr?
He opened his eyes, focusing at the creature infront of him. It wasn’t a deadly animal, but rather.. a black cat?
Camilos eyes widened. It looked exactly like your beloved pet. He didn’t even question his scared behavior prior to his realization, all he had in mind was that he currently has the token to your heart.
If he returns him to you then you’ll be his.
He sat up, careful as to not startle him away. But as he was about to go on with his plan of returning him. A thought flashed in his mind. “I...don’t think I should give you back.” He smiled sadly which caused the cat to look at him, confused.
“It’s not that I don’t want to. It just.. doesn’t feel right. They already have their eyes on someone. They told me so. It’d be selfish if I did. Plus, they seem serious about this person, i mean, they didn’t even want to accept my letter!”
The felines eyes dilated, he almost looks like a blob of darkness because of this. Camilo stared at his black orbs before letting out a chuckle, resting his back against a tree while he stroked Celesto. “You know what? Lets stop at that. You probably also had a rough day. I don’t think it’s fun hearing about someones love proble—.” His sentence was cut short when something- someone near him fell.
He hears a groan as he whipped his head to the side. “Antoñio!” A voice followed. But more importantly, it was your voice. He saw you come out of your hiding spot, hurriedly rushing towards his brother who accidentally leaned ahead a bit too much causing his fall.
“I’m okay!” The little boy exclaimed before quickly covering his mouth. Camilo was dumbfounded. He just saw his brother come out of nowhere and then you?
The both of you slowly crained your head towards where the other Madrigal who sat comfortably with your pet. “Oops.” The younger said before quickly standing up and grabbing the cat off Camilo.
“Celesto says it’s going to get awkward soon. So.. bye!” He scurried off. Leaving the two of you alone.
You cleared your throat, dusting your pants/skirt off of any debri. “S-.. sorry about that.” You stuttered out, stroking your arm for some sort of comfort while your gaze shifted to everywhere but him.
“So, you were spying on me, huh?” Camilo teased, finally regaining some of his confidence. You can only let out a sheepish smirk as he stood up and slowly made his way towards you. “It wasn’t my intention.... wellmaybeitwas, but that’s besides the point!”
With heated cheeks, you slowly looked up at him. “I didn’t know it was your letter.” You sighed, “If i knew then I would’ve accepted it.” At this, Camilo’s face grew red, putting Isabela’s roses to shame. “Y-you, what? I mean- you also? Am- am I the-“ A melodic string of laughter cut him off, causing the boy to stare at you with awe.
“Yes. You are the lucky person.”
He couldn’t even react. All he felt at that moment was indescribable joy and pure love spilling out of him.
Though he couldn’t react now, you could see the mess of emotions that swirled in his beautiful green eyes. And at that moment, he truly felt as if he’s the luckiest man ever.
𖥻 THIS WAS FUN TO WRITE! I got inspired by a comic abt smth similar to this. (catching a cat to be able to be with them) So it might be familiar to some of you!
MY FRIEND JUST SENT ME THIS WHILE I WAS WRITING MY NEXT CAMILO FIC AND I'M IN FREAKING SHAMBLES RIGHT NOW AFTER SEEING THIS!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA -dies in nosebleed
Ok ngl Antonio is gonna be freaking cute when he grows up
@darycn19 in IG
Hii! You asked for request and luckily I've been in a requesty mood recently!
Ok so, I had this cute idea for a Camilo x Reader where the reader likes to draw a lot & is rlly good at it and Camilo finds it like rlly cool and so they teach him how to draw better
I just thought this idea was suepr cute! The reader would preferably be fem but you can also do gender neutral if u want! This could be headcannons or a oneshot or whatever you like really :D
Camilo with an S/O who is a Talented Artist
pairing: camilo madrigal x reader
tags: headcannons, fluff
@ ask: this is so cute! thank you for requesting and i hope you enjoyed it as much as i did >< i draw a lot too so it means so much to me to write this aa
You always had a knack for art, and everyone else can see it. You are a traditional artist, most especially known for the Madrigal family mural in the village as a tribute to their deeds in the community. Your skills are immaculate, and everyone falls in love with your sketches and work.
However, a particular Madrigal found himself the luckiest man in the world when you said yes to his confession. Camilo Madrigal, the town’s sunshine and joy was even more brighter than the skies above the day when you became his other half, his soulmate, his significant other, and his life.
You and Camilo had the cutest relationship everyone else asked for. Both of your dynamics fit well together
You were the creator of 2d beauty while he appreciated and admired every inch of what your canvas could create
Even a simple doodle of a chameleon makes him tear up from how beautiful it is
Sometimes you think he’s overreacting, but he proves you wrong.
His room is FILLED with your drawings. A separate wall in his room was what he called the “Y/N Board”. It was a thing you both made out of scratch. A wall filled with pins and tapes of your random doodles to help inspire the both of you
He was your biggest fan and you absolutely loved him most for that. He gave you confidence and you gave him happiness
You were in his room, casually sketching a portrait of Antonio’s jaguar in the rainforest. You were sitting in his bed, knees propped up to support your sketchbook while you were leaning back on the chest of your boyfriend. His arms were around your waist and his face was buried in the crook of your neck. He wasn’t moving so you assumed he was dozed off.
Suddenly, you felt something tickling on the side of your neck, giving you shivers. Turns out it was Camilo’s fluffy curls that lightly ticked your neck when he stirred awake. He took a look at your now 80% finished drawing and he audibly gasped.
“Woah! Now that is realistic!” He hugged you tighter, eyes still focused on your drawing.
You looked at the side of your shoulder, giving him a kiss on his head. “Good morning, my koala. How was your nap?”
“I didn’t mean to sleep. I wanted to watch you keep drawing.” His voice sounded soft, sulky and lazy where you can tell he was pouting.
You shuffled your position off of him so that you sat beside him. Giving him your pencil, you said.
“Here, wanna finish coloring the spots?”
“No, what if I ruin your drawing?!”
You laughed and pinched his cheeks. “You won’t, amor. Come on, I’ll guide you.” You placed your hand on top of his hand that was grasping your pencil.
“Start with light shading, and slowly put more pressure when you want it darker.”
That was most of your dates, to be honest. It was a perfect break for Camilo
He didn’t mind spending the times drawing with you. Every time he feels drained from all the daily chores, sitting down and cuddling with you while drawing was his escape and refuge
You were like his charging station, keeping him calm and collected before he goes out again draining his social battery tending to children and babysitting
And for you, he was your best supporter. There was never a moment where his eyes didn’t sparkle when it landed on your art. Though sometimes you wished he would give actual constructive criticism, but its cute when he tries to.
You got him interested in drawing. He’s not that bad, but he’s also not skilled at your level. You saw this opportunity to teach him how to draw
Sometimes he gets shy but you never fail to reassure him and give him advice on how to draw better
“Is that your entry for the art contest!? You’re guaranteed first place!” He was jumping all around your room, excited for the competition while you were slightly nervous as you continue painting in your canvas.
“Yeah, but I’m not yet done.” You sulked, sadness evident in your tone. He stopped bouncing on your bed and gave you a backhug while he rests his chin on your head.
“Whether you finish early or not, your details are already amazing so I’m confident you will still win!” He squished both of your cheeks.
A light bulb ticked on your head. Standing up, you faced him and put your hand on his shoulders.
“Mi vida, what if you join the competition with me? I can coach you!”
It took a lot of begging and puppy eyes but Camilo finally agreed to join the art competition
He was a nervous wreck, but you were there to reassure and teach him all he needed to do
He was even more nervous because he never showed anything art-sy to everyone else. He only doodled for you and the last time he drew for his family, he got a lot of teasing for it.
This only made you excited though, you know he is gonna impress a lot of people once they find out how much Camilo has improved, thanks to you
After grabbing your spare canvas, both of your easels stood beside each other while you both created your artworks for the contest
“You’re doing impressionism?” Your eyes widened at his outline sketch. “And on Casita too?! That’s amazing Milo!”
He gave you a warm smile. “Yeah. but what if turns out bad?”
Giving him a big bear hug, you dug your face in his chest. “It won’t, trust me! You gave me confidence all the time, now its my turn to give you yours!”
A day left before the final submissions and both of you were amazed at each other’s work
Camilo improved by a lot, and I mean, a lot! Not only was he confident, but he was also expressive and it reflected in his artwork. Yellows dominated the image and his first official signature was placed in the lower left of the canvas
You were all over the place happy for your boyfriend and he was shy about it.
Camilo wasn’t used to this, it used to be the other way around
Needless to say, your sunflower portrait and his Casita landscape is definitely one of the best outputs both of you had made. And deep down, you were confident that two of you would walk home with an award.
“And for the first place, between Entry #3: Sunflower Portrait and Entry #7, Village Beauty, we have...” The announcer said out loud to the stage. It was funny, because he was also the Church Priest who had a knack for MC-ing in the side.
“And the first place is....”
“Entry #3 takes the trophy! Sunflower portrait by Y/N L/N! Come up to the stage!”
You screamed, jumping all over the place. Camilo immediately rushed to your arms and spun you around while lifting you by the waist, “MI AMOR! CONGRATULATIONSS!” He peppered kisses all over your face before letting you free to receive your award.
As you stand on the edge of the stage, you glanced at the crowd. The Madrigal family was there, cheering for you. You were truly happy. Your passion and talent has what made you special and you were more than ecstatic when everyone else appreciates it.
But, it wasn’t the end of the story.
“And for the last award, the fourth place!” You grinned, seeing the audience waiting.
“The last place, and the cut-off of participants who would move on to compete in the grand finals is-”
Ohhhhh this is gonna be good.
“Entry #12: Sunlight in the Casita by Camilo Madrigal!”
You were full on screaming and jumping all around the stage. No one expected this twist, but were very impressed at the sight of his art. Camilo, who was still stunned, stood back frozen. You immediately went down the stage to grab his hand, intertwining it with yours as you led him back to the spotlight.
After getting his award, you wouldn’t stop squealing over the excitement, and neither can he
His family was more than proud of him. Even Isabella who once thought his self-portrait was a frog
Needless to say once again, but you were so proud of him that you initiated PDA on stage and he blushed
“I told you you can do it!!! Look at you!!” “Milo! You’re moving to finals! You’re so cool!”
As soon as you both exited the stage, Pepa ran fast to her son, showering him in admiration. You giggled at the sight and followed Felix who initiated a group hug
Now back home in your, you changed your clothes and settled in your pajamas, catching up to Camilo who was fiddling with his newly-earned medal while laying down in your bed.
Catching up too him, you crawled in his arms while giving him another bear hug.
“I’m proud of you, amor. Who knew you had a hidden Da Vinci right here?” You grabbed his hands and fiddled with it.
“And I’m thankful for you helping me work on it. Even I didn’t expect all this.” He mumbled.
Raking his fluffy hair, you said to him,
“Expect more mi amor, because like how you motivated me to keep drawing every day, I’m gonna do the same with you.” And with that, you both dozed off in each other’s loving embrace.

hello!! i hope you're doing well :) is it alright if i request a camilo x gn!reader where the reader speaks in a monotone voice? like the reader could say the cheesiest thing but in a monotone voice 😭 idk it's just a funny concept to me whjabdnsbsn
that's all thank you!!! (i really like your writing btw!!)
— you are known to express little emotion because of your monotone voice, though it's not like you're emotionless and besides, Camilo loves you for just the way you are.
— fluff & humor
— gender-neutral reader. I do not speak fluent Spanish and all of the Spanish here is translated from google, feel free to correct me if I got something wrong though I will refrain from using too much Spanish
— thank you for requesting anon, i hope you enjoy this :>
You have heard of the saying that opposites attract, but for you and Camilo, it wasn't always the case. You two met during spring, you were admiring the blooming flowers this season. Camilo decided to approach you that day with a bouquet of sunflowers, it turns out, he held feelings for you. As he shoved the flowers into your hands, your heart was pounding against your ribcage and your entire body went sweaty. You had a crush on the Madrigal for a while now so it explains why you felt that way. Though, the nervousness never showed on your face. You looked at him in the eye that day and simply said.
The look on the shapeshifter's face went glum, you almost panicked at this. You asked him what was wrong.
"Did you not like the flowers?"
"No, I do like the flowers"
"Oh, but you sounded...unimpressed"
He pouts and you nearly melt on the spot. Unimpressed? You felt the opposite! You were flattered that the Camilo Madrigal decided to gift you with flowers out of all the people in Encanto.
"I'm not. I'm flattered, Camilo"
"Really? You sure do sound bored though"
"Lo siento, this is the way I speak and I'm aware of how monotone it sounds"
"¡Oh! ¡Entiendo ahora!"
A smile makes its way unto Camilo's lips, you can feel your cheeks heating up. You didn't intend to appear unexcited that day. It was just the way you spoke. Your voice has always sounded flat or bored and it often contradicts what you feel. People said or complained you were incapable of expressing or feeling anymore because of the tone of your voice, it sometimes made you sad. But ever since Camilo gave you those flowers that day, he never bothered to make you feel insecure with the way you talked. It made you all giddy inside.
"Say, [Name], would you like to go out on a date with me?"
"Sí, I would love to"
A couple of months of dating later, you and Camilo finally chose to make it an official relationship. You were the happiest person in the entire world and the shapeshifter knew it too. It didn't matter if the way you told him that you love him sounded emotionless, he knew deep within that you meant it so much.
You stood in front of the mirror for almost a hundredth time, you checked again if you looked presentable. The look on your face seemed as though you were the calmest person in the entire universe but internally, you're losing your fucking mind. Today, you're going to meet Camilo's family, la familia Madrigal! You're a nervous wreck. You have been preparing a week ahead since he told you.
Is this outfit okay?
Does my hair look good?
Mierda, should I change my shoes or-
A knock on the door interrupts your anxious thoughts. You let out a heavy exhale and smoothly walked towards the door, you opened it and it revealed your handsome boyfriend. Camilo looked very nice and prepared to take you to the Casita, you swoon.
"¿Estas lista, amor?"
"Camilo, I'm nervous"
Your boyfriend snickered at you but quickly stopped when he saw the emotion in your eyes, he coughed and cleared his throat.
You nod at him. Camilo winced and suddenly gave you a warm embrace. You held unto him for a while as he petted your hair.
"It's gonna be alright, mi vida. I'm sure my family will adore you"
"But...but what about, oh you know..."
"Your monotone voice that I've grown to love about you? Ay, don't worry about it"
His words bring a small smile to your face as you snuggled closer to him affectionately. Eventually, Camilo kisses your forehead and softly takes your hand. The shapeshifter eagerly brings you to la casa Madrigal. The moment you step foot inside, everyone was already there. You felt immediately overwhelmed.
"¡Hola! ¡Buenas tardes [Name]!"
"Hello, thank you for having me"
You greeted back casually at the unusually cheery family. Camilo clicked his tongue and told his family to go prepare for lunch. The Madrigals grinned and snickered away. You made your way outside where the table was set for lunch, the weather was fantastic due to Pepa Madrigal's incredibly joyous mood. You sat between your boyfriend and his cousin, Isabela. The food looked warm and delectable. As you took a bite of your food, you can already feel their eyes on you. With a nervous gulp, you looked up only to find them averting their gazes away.
"[Name], it's wonderful to have you here in la casa Madrigal. We have heard so much about you through Camilo"
"Gracias, Señora Madrigal"
You say blankly. Alma raised a curious eyebrow and looked at Camilo who only casually shrugged at her. Alma doesn't further question the sound of your monotone voice. Pepa was excitedly vibrating on her seat with rainbows all over her head.
"Soooo [Name], how did you and mi hijo met?"
"Oh, he just came up to me and gave me some flowers"
Pepa's face went deadpan at your response, the rainbows above her head faded away. You bite your tongue as you looked down on your lap, embarrassment was beginning to creep in. Dios, why did you sound so monotonous?! Camilo notices your sheepish behavior and swiftly tries to defuse it.
"Ay, [Name] can you pass the corn from your left?"
"Hm? Oh, the corn? Here you go, mi amor"
You carefully grabbed the plate of corn and passed it to your boyfriend. The Madrigals stopped eating and secretly watched you two interact.
"Amor, you have something on your cheek"
"You should eat slower, querido"
Camilo playfully rolled his eyes at you as you went in to wipe off the stain on his cheek. Félix saw the scene and almost loses it, the man clutched his chest. Pepa's eyes sparkled and her heart swelled at your interaction with her son.
"Meh, stop treating me like a baby, [Name]"
"But you are one. You're mi bebé"
You smile softly at your boyfriend. Camilo merely chokes on his food, he was conflicted if he should laugh or kiss you right now. He knew you loved to flirt with him but the fact that you did it in front of his whole family with that monotone voice of yours was sending him.
"Pfff, lo siento, I can't-"
"You're laughing? You don't want to be called mi bebé?"
"No! It's not that it's-"
"Or do you prefer mi cariño because you're so sweet-"
"Ay! Stop it!"
Camilo's face was turning red both from laughing and feeling embarrassed. You looked at the shapeshifter with amusement. Even if your voice sounded serious, you were only joking. After all, you had a sense of humor. The Madrigals looked at each other, the exchange you and Camilo had was enough to tell them that you loved each other dearly.
"Feeling old yet, hermana?"
"Oh, Bruno, they grow up so fast"
Bruno and Pepa whispered to each other. Félix couldn't hold back his tears, his wife offers him a handkerchief as he blows his nose. Dolores and Antonio looked at their brother with a smile. Alma happily took a sip of her tea.
"Por favor, stop embarrassing me in front of mi familia, [Name]"
"You invited me here, I'm just trying to feel welcomed, mi corazón"
You knew how weak Camilo would be when it comes to your endearments for him, you would never run out of lovely things to call him. The shapeshifter's face was as red as a tomato by now, he was holding back a laugh and blushing at the same time. He didn't understand why he found it hilarious that you're flirting with him using the most monotonous voice known to man. He would be lying if he said he didn't love it.
"Look at him Isa, he's as red as Dolores' headband!"
"I'll say, I thought [Name] is sin emociones"
Mirabel and Isabela gazed at you, there was a mischievous glint in your eye as you continue to torment their primo with cheesy pick-up lines. They both scoffed and chuckled.
They're a perfect match
do you have any camilo headcanons?? <3

this can go like,,,either way. they either don’t approach him because they’re intimidated by where he comes from or they make fun of him there’s no in between
winter is his least favourite season bc it reminds him of when he first saw snow after bruno left and pepa wouldn’t get out of bed for days
he’s really, really creative

antonio is like. his ride or die. u mess with his homeboy and it’s legit game over for u. camilo would hands down kill for that kid he goes on x-games mode fr
i know they barely interacted in the movie but i like to think him and mirabel are properly best friends. like, in a they fight like siblings but tell each other everything kinda way
his default stress-reaction is just crying. he actually cries really easily and tries to cover it up but never really does
does his fucking best to make his mami smile when she’s upset—he’ll go all the lengths and do whatever it takes to get those tears dry
him and felix have a handshake
loves people playing with his hair

out of all of the madrigals he fights with isabela the most
and it’s usually because she doesn’t have the time for his antics and he knows exactly which buttons to push to piss her off
luisa bench presses him sometimes if he needs cheering up
you know that animation concept of him waving his ruana around like a magician while he shifts? yeah i feel like he does that a LOT
he’s all about the dramatic flair
i know it’s literally canon that he eats a Lot bc he needs it but i sort of hc him to be a really fussy eater as well ?? like he’ll eat so much but rotates between the exact same 4 meals and refuses to try anything else
hogs the bathroom Every Single Morning and enrages pretty much every single madrigal grandkid
he steps out of his bedroom and makes eye contact with mirabel opposite him and they both freeze before fucking sprinting to the bathroom

he has a collection of little things belonging to everyone he’s ever shifted into hidden in his drawers
bottles up his emotions to the point that he lets every big thing slide until it builds up and something small just makes him explode
he can be really sensitive and goes really quiet if someone’s either intentionally/accidentally hurt his feelings
he’s a little spoon. except for antonio
one of his favourite things to do to wind down is to lie on the couch with his head in pepas lap whilst she untangles every single curl on his head
and that is all for now !! i hope u enjoyed anon & thank u for the ask!
Snowmen Aren’t Sentient
Camilo Madrigal x Fem!Reader
He/Him for Camilo, She/They for Reader
I keep finding winter prompts and I just have to write them all
Also I wrote this like at night it was meant to be fem but I use ‘they’ for the reader sometimes
Edit after the loss of motivation post: so I decided to actually finish it so I’d at least have one thing from my upcoming posts list crossed off, hope you like it :)) sry if it’s not great I’m still tryna get back into the swing of things, ofc I’ll be coming back and editing as I usually do 🌺
“Antonio just let it go and we can get home!” Camilo complained.
Camilo and Y/N had ended up leading Antonio around in the middle of a cold winter night, searching for snowmen.
“I told you we shouldn’t have told him that story! His imagination is probably running wild,” Y/N looked down at Antonio, who’d made himself comfortable hidden behind the two of them.
Eventually Camilo did feel a twinge of guilt about the whole thing, “Right, right I’m sorry.”
Y/N gasped, a bit louder than they need to, “Is the estupendo Camilo apologizing! That’s simply unheard of.”
“Come on, I’m not that bad,” Camilo knew he probably was that bad, especially when it came to apologizing.
“Of course you’d think so! You aren’t your own amor, how would you know?” Y/N tried to hide her smile.
“Right, bet I’m awful,” Camilo went straight to dramatics, “Camilo Madrigal, encanto’s worst cariño! How could he ever be loved?”
The two of them laughed.
“Is that one of them?” Antonio’s quiet voice was heard.
Looking ahead they saw a figure appearing, and indeed it was a snowman.
“Are you sure you don’t want me or Cam to test it for you?” Y/N offered, but Antonio nodded.
He was absolute. He’d have to test this snowman himself with skills he’d learned earlier that day.
Holding out a flower, he waited for his answer.
~ Earlier ~
Every Madrigal had plans for Friday night. Every one except for Camilo and Antonio that is. So of course seeing that they’d be the only ones home Camilo got stuck babysitting his little brother. And Y/N had been the oh so lucky one of his friends that got to listen to him lament about it.
“Cálmate! You’ll be fine,” Y/N reasoned as they walked back to casita, “Antonio’s an easy kid.”
“Ah! Of course you’d say that!” He shook his head, “you don’t have to live with him. He puts on this front to make himself see all cute and adorable but he’s anything but.”
Camilo continued on about the absolute pest Antonio was, and how no one truly knew him like he did.
“Dios mio! Weren’t you literally crying the other day over how much you missed him when he was away at friend’s?” She gave him a look.
Camilo was speechless for a moment, “That’s uh, not important, what truly matters is how skewed your image of my hermanito is.”
Y/N noticed that look in his eye, the particular way it sparkled whenever he was planning something, “What are you suggesting?”
“I’m suggesting,” Camilo motioned to casita, “you come over and help me babysit Antonio tonight.”
She was skeptical.
“Come on,” he spread his arms wide as he spoke, “think of all the possibilities! We can could make hot cocoa, stay up as late as we want after Antonio goes to sleep-.”
“You would have less work to do, you wouldn’t be alone with Antonio, I get what you mean,” Y/N put a hand on her hip and Camilo looked guilty.
“Those are just some added perks, but the main thing is,” he grabbed their hands, “I get to spend quality time with mi vida.”
Y/N couldn’t help but smile when he calmed them that, “Fine, but you’re doing most of the work.”
“I promise he won’t bite, just pet him,” Antonio urged as Parce tries to nuzzle Y/N.
“Right, right,” Y/N found it kind of comical that he was saying that about a jaguar but just as he said Parce didn’t bite.
“I think he likes!” Antonio got excited when he saw that they’d become a acquaintanced, “lemme go get one of my other animal friends!”
Antonio got up and ran over to another group of animal, practically disappearing in them, leaving Parce to gently rest his head on Y/N’s lap.
“Alright! Then you have to go to bed!” Y/N called after him, before looking down at Parce, “aren’t you just the cutest thing?”
Camilo was laying on his stomach next to them, and a slight frown formed on his face, “He’s not that great.”
They were confused by this, “C’mon just look at him!” They put their head next to Parce’s face as they started rubbing his head and he started purring.
He just rolled his eyes, “I mean sure.”
It was just then that they realized why he was acting that way.
“But you of course no one could replace you,” they held his face, “with your pretty eyes and soft hair, tan lindo, mi sol.”
Camilo smiled, content with the attention he’d received.
Soon Antonio came back with a toucan on his arm, “This is Pico!!”
“Aw!” Y/N held out there arm and Pico hopped on it.
Camilo watched how she cared for his hermanito and eventually tuck him into his hammock, without one complaint.
He couldn’t help but fall for her just a bit more.
“But I’m not tired!” Antonio said, not in a whiny tone, but more pleading, using his adorable voice to his advantage.
Y/N couldn’t bring herself to say no to him, and Camilo would be no help, he was already half asleep,“What would help?”
“Maybe,” Antonio was trying to think of what he could say that would allow him to stay up the longest, “a story, that’d help me fall asleep.”
Y/N shrugged. She was sure she could whip up some fantastical tale that’d get him to sleep. Should be easy enough.
“So let me tell you one about the servicial snowmen,” she’d heard this one a lot growing up and it always got her to sleep with how long it was.
She wasn’t even sure she’d ever heard the end of it. Essentially how the story continued on was you could make up countless things that the servicial snowmen could do.
Plus it had a bit is singing that went along with it that made it half story, half lullaby.
When she said this, Camilo perked up, with a sparkle in his eyes.
What was he planning this time?
“Cami?” she said questioning.
“Nothing! I’ve just heard this story before and I think it’d be better with a bit of,” Camilo stood, “performing.”
“And how will this get Antonio to sleep?” despite how impractical it was she couldn’t help but smile at the idea. Antonio was already sitting up in excitement.
“It’ll tire him out,” He was somewhat pleading with his voice, “please? It’ll be fun I swear.”
Y/N saw where Antonio got his coaxing skills from.
“Fine,” they waved it off, “but don’t go overboard.”
“Alright,” Camilo nodded vigorously, knowing he would probably go overboard anyways, “and I’m surprised you chose this story as a bedtime one.”
She furrowed her eyebrows for a moment. This story was a bedtime story. What else would it have been?
Turning her attention back to Antonio, she began, “Once upon a time in the village of Encanto, some kids decided to make some snowmen, these kids decorated them all nicely, with pretty plants and flowers.”
Camilo shifted into Isabela, flowers falling from her hair in a circle around him.
So this is what he meant.
“That night when the children had left and the snowmen were all alone, they decided to help their human designers.”
Camilo began putting the flowers in bouquets and setting them next to Antonio in his hammock.
“The servicial snowmen went around many things for the children, they made the food and left it out on the table.”
Suddenly Julieta was making invisible arepas.
Now for the musical part. She sang, “be sure to thank the servicial snowmen.”
“Be sure to thank the servicial snowmen,” Camilo echoed her with a lot more, pizzazz as he would call it.
Smiling at his antics, she went on, “The servicial snowmen went around doing many things for the children, they went to the garden and watered all the plants.”
Antonio turned to see Camilo transform into their mother, “Be sure to thank the servicial snowmen.”
This continued on, Y/N making up random chores for the snowmen to do, while Camilo acted out the different scenes as they happened.
Soon enough Antonio was drifting, and soon Y/N had reached the part of the story that she didn’t know.
Turning to Camilo she mouthed, “Keep going.”
He nodded, but Y/N had no idea what she’d just given him permission to do.
“The children woke up to all the wonderful things, their house was clean and the food was warm,” he waved a finger at Antonio, “but they never thanked the servicial snowmen.”
What? Y/N was always certain that they had, but then again she’d always fallen asleep before the story ended.
Camilo dance around as he spoke, “The servicial snowmen ruined many things for the children, they poisoned the food left out on the table, be sure to watch for the servicial snowmen.”
She now knew why he’d wonder why she’d chosen this for a bedtime story.
Apparently, the servicial snowmen burned their crops, broke their windows, and many other very unsettling things.
“So be sure to listen,” he shifted into Dolores, “and be attentive of your surrounding, be sure to thank the servicial snowmen.”
Camilo gave Antonio was smile before ending his performance.
Y/N was glad she never heard the end of it. It would’ve traumatized her.
However it didn’t seem to affect Antonio, if anything he was eager to get them out of the room and go to sleep.
“See!” Camilo started as they left Antonio’s room, “it tired him out, and I got to display my skills, everyone wins.”
Y/N rolled her eyes, but she had to admit it did work.
Or so she thought.
That night she’d been resting in the nursery, not quiet asleep when she heard creaking outside her door.
At first she assumed it was just Camilo, but they seemed too light to be his.
Rubbing her eyes and getting out of bed, she went to see what was going on.
It was Antonio, dressed in his winter clothes, sneaking off towards the entrance of Casita.
“Antonio?” She called, questioning.
He stopped and turned around, “Hi.”
“What are you doing up?”
“I wanna go find the servicial snowmen! Make sure they aren’t servicial to us!” He continued on his way, “I don’t want them breaking the windows.”
“Antonio Casita will keep them out.”
“No I have to!” He shook his head, holding up a flower he had from when Camilo had shifted into Isabela, “I have to see if it’ll come alive!”
After a few more tries, she relented, resolving she’d just go with him.
But she was not about to do so alone.
“Camilo!” She started banging on his door.
“What?” He swung the door open, “it’s the middle of the night.”
“We’re going to go help Antonio get to sleep,” she motioned the boy standing by the front door, “since someone scared him.”
Camilo wore a guilty smile, he had gone overboard.
Soon enough the three of them were outside, hunting down a particularly servicial snowman.
~ Now ~
“I have to admit his fear is kinda of,” Y/N turned to look at Camilo, before trailing off, “endearing.”
She understood Antonio looking afraid, but she didn’t expect to see Camilo seem a bit uneasy himself.
“Are you scared?” She asked with a slight smile forming on her face.
“Of course not!” Camilo looked appalled, “mi vida, this is kids stuff, why would I be scared?”
“Tell that to your shaking hands.”
He was quick to put them in his pockets, before smirking at her, “Wish you were holding one don’t you?”
Y/N rolled her eyes, but did end up taking his hand. They were still shaking, just now for a different reason.
Antonio ran to hide behind Camilo after he put the flower on the snowman, and waited.
The two older kids shared a look, but still humored his antics.
“It didn’t move!” Antonio sounded shocked, running up to poke the snowman a few times, and then turning to smile at the two of them.
They both returned it.
After they’d arrived back at Casita, they were going to put Antonio to sleep when a question came to Y/N’s mind, “Cam, Is that actually how the story ends?”
He didn’t seem like he wanted to answer, “Well, technically the ending is up to the storyteller and-.”
She started smacking him on the arm, “You scared him on purpose!”
“I’m sorry, ow, I’m sorry!” he was laughing as he spoke.
She stopped hitting him, “Actually I’m sorry too, you were just as scared as he was.”
“Come on Y/N!” Camilo shook his head, “Snowmen aren’t even sentient.”
First time writing a Camilo x Reader and idk how I feel about it honestly, but I still feel like it’s kinda cute so I decided to post it :)
