𓏹 Fallen Debris .
Camilo Madrigal x GN!Reader
Author's Note. You guys seem to be a sucker for angst just like I am, so here you go! A little contribution to the list of Tumblr's angsty Camilo fics. I never thought I'd be motivated to write again. Even as simple as getting comments and notes really does a lot to someone, and I'm grateful for it all! I also cried while writing some of the parts so I hope that's worth it. Here's a fic made especially with love, constant repeat of dos oruguitas for setting up the mood, and tears.
Category — imagine, angst, romance.
Notes and Warnings — english not being the author's first language, second person's point of view, camilo being angry and saying hurtful words, bullying, mentions of blood.
Summary — after the disastrous dinner where Mariano and Isabella were supposed to come out engaged, you and Camilo had an extremely heated argument about Bruno after defending him causing your relationship to deteriorate completely. You were there when Mirabel and Abuela fought causing the downfall of Casita — you along with it.
And when Camilo found your unresponsive figure underneath the piles and rubbles of the fallen shelter's debris, well . . . ( 8.45k words )
You didn't know how you ended up here, chest heaving filled with disdain towards the boy you used to adore in front of you. You started the day so happy. How could you end up like this? It was all joyous. The day was clear and harmonious. How did this all happen?
You frowned at the Madrigal who mirrored you.
See, you were one of the townspeople that helped with La Casita. Needless to say, you were the painter of the town. You created portraits and arts all across Encanto since you turned 10. You were an art prodigy, the star of brushes and paints. You created a special bond with Camilo Madrigal and the live house itself, and from then on, you became someone in every step of La Casa Madrigal's ground.
Camilo was so bright then. He always asked you to come over to paint this and that, to teach him how to stroke a line with a brush, how to create an outline, and finish an art with your very secret technique called showing the canvas with love and affection. He found it silly, but he never did mind.
Despite the countless paintings in his room, Camilo only had eyes for you. Only you, and nothing else. He thought you were the most priceless art he's ever seen. Your colours were so vibrant, especially your eyes. The way your creator outlined you as a whole fascinated him, he wanted to learn how to paint just so he could make so many images of you.
Everyone didn't know what to make of him when he started becoming so fond of Encanto's art prodigy. He never ended a day without mentioning you or your works. He would always say such things as, "I wonder if they were born perfect," or "The world is a better place with them around."
You heard this all from Mirabel complaining how her cousin just wouldn't shut up about you or your "flowy hair", she playfully cringed.
So, when he confessed his feelings and found out you reciprocated it, he was over the moon, so past cloud 9 that he could just die the happiest man right there and then.
When that happened, you came more often, giving excuses that you wanted to give Pepa a gift. You did, but you stayed longer that everyone thought Casita held you hostage. Kidding aside, the family loved your paintings, causing them to keep asking for more and more until you found one peculiar spot when you were examining a framed photo. Casita warned you not to go, but you were curious as to what was there.
Needless to say, you gained awareness of the purest 'missing' Madrigal living inside the walls and became the best of friends.
And when you did, you were protective and secretive of his existence just like he asked — no, practically begged of you.
So, when you were invited to dine with the Madrigals, expecting the proposal of Mariano to Isabella, you kept a few foods on your plate for Bruno to have later. He can't just keep grabbing leftovers from the kitchen counters. You looked over at Camilo who sat across from you and smiled. Much to your dismay, he did not return the gesture. Your significant other has been cold these past few days and you were not sure why.
That's when you noticed Dolores, Mirabel, and Tío Agustín acting strange. What was going on?
A few more disasters later, the truth was out and everyone was soaked with Tía Pepa's rain. Luisa's powers were gone, Isabella was angry, Camilo was a half Mariano, half baby, the actual Mariano and his concerned mother were sat there panicking, and basically everyone was out of it. All because of Bruno and his last vision. You didn't understand the reaction. You didn't know about this, but why?
"Why does it seem like you believe Tío Bruno made this prophecy? I know he could never do such a thing like this. He can only read the future, not make it. It's not his fault nor Mirabel's!" You stated as everyone looked at you, incredulous. Abuela dropped her fork at your words as if it gave so much more information than what it should have.
"Y/N!" Camilo called and frowned at you. He looked at his abuela and awkwardly let out a laugh, "I'm so sorry, Abuela. She must have eaten something."
You scoffed. How was that possible?
"No, Camilo. I don't understand why everyone seems so against him when he did nothing wrong." You continued. Pepa's cloud thundered. You slightly jumped at that. Oh, no. You were making everyone mad, but you had to defend your best friend. Your fifty-year-old best friend who spent a decade alone with his rat friends in those cracking walls, patching them as the family slowly fell apart.
"Do you know where Bruno is?" the head of the Madrigals suddenly asked.
Uh-oh. You didn't think of that. You shook your head and simply stated an apology to cover your lies. "I don't know."
"Do you know what he's like?" She asked with a stern tone, making Camilo sulk in his seat.
"No, Abuela. I'm sorry." You quietly replied as you looked down in shame.
"Then don't say another word. You were not supposed to know whatever it is that you know about Bruno. You speak as if you know him well." She stood up as Mariano and his mother stormed off. What she said next bore a hole to your chest. "And know your place in this house, Y/N. You're not a Madrigal."
She turned to Camilo who was as wide-eyed as everyone else on the table, "I will talk to the two of you once I fix this mess."
That's when everyone got out of their seats as well to get out of the awkward dining room. Pepa only looked at you with sympathy, so did everyone else, but Camilo's eyes expressed something different. His eyebrows were just a centimetre apart, his lips curled in a way that he radiated rage.
You stepped back from where you stood alone in the kitchen. The place was now silent. Everyone was out to tend to Mariano or retreat to their rooms after the catastrophe. But you and Camilo only stood there glaring at each other.
"We need to talk." He started and slightly raised his arms, his ruana wrinkling from the action. "What was that, Y/N?"
"You know I was defending your Tío Bruno, Camilo. Don't lecture me. I did the right thing, I know it."
"Did you really? Because the last time I checked that was disrespectful, and not only did you say that to my Abuela, you acted as if you knew about my family so well!" He yelled.
Silence, then, he walked out of the kitchen to go back to his room. You followed after, apologising multiple times until you reached his room and got inside, closing the door.
"Do I not know about your family, Camilo? Do I seem so naive about your history? Do I look like I never spent time to know about everyone just so I could be approved by the people in this house? Do I look like I didn't try at all?" You asked as his back faced you. "Because I did! I tried my best to please you."
"This is not about you, Y/N," he sighed.
"Why are we like this? Why do I not feel your support? You don't feel warm anymore and you haven't been since the past few days. What happened to you?" He turned to you once he heard the question.
"What happened to me? What happened to you, Y/N? You've never acted so recklessly before. What is it with my tío that you snapped so much like that? Do you know where he even is?"
"No, I don't!" You answered.
"Then why do you act like you do? See? This is why I don't understand you sometimes. You keep things hidden from me when you know you could trust me. Why are you being like this? I thought we're open to each other?"
"Listen, I don't know about your tio, but I'm sure that there was more to the story that everyone so much speaks of. What if Bruno was out there struggling? Have you never thought about him being alone after all this time that he left? How could you not feel sympathy for him and just fear? Do you seriously believe he makes bad things happen? Because that's ridiculous and you know it!"
He only stared at you, unable to think of something to respond. So, you continued.
"You may never know if he was out there, cold on rainy days, covering himself with his own clothes that smelled like home he always remembered being so warm. What if he had nothing to eat but scraps that he shared with his rats he called his friends? What if he missed his family? Missed Tía Julieta's freshly made arepas, Tía Pepa's rainbows and sunshine? Abuela's lessons about keeping the miracle alive? What if he had so little but still shared until he had nothing? Have you ever thought of that? All of us never knew why he left. Maybe there was a missing piece we forgot to look at. You all chose to fear him, think of him as a villain, but have you ever empathised?"
Camilo squinted his eyes at you, unsure what to make of you. The more you said something, the more he grew suspicious of you. You seemed to have been keeping so much from him and it pained him to say, he was slowly losing trust.
"Tell me the truth, Y/N." He walked closer to you, "Do you know where Tío Bruno is?"
You got intimidated by that, but you stood your ground and shook your head, "I—"
"Don't lie to me this time, Y/N."
You felt like you were shrinking as the distance got narrower. Nevertheless, you chose to hold your breath and look at him with a stern expression. Your eyes never faltered at the furious sight of the Madrigal.
This time, you were the one to step closer, stopping just a few inches in front of him, but no. The atmosphere was not intimate as it was a few months ago. There was no passion in his eyes, no love, no empathy.
And it tore you. It broke your heart into millions of shards, cutting through the walls of your chest. So you stood there, fighting back the lump on your throat. "I don't know what you want me to say, but I'm already telling you this and I'm not repeating it again. I don't know where Tío Bruno is."
"Then this discussion is over. I already knew the answer before you told me." He stepped back and stopped to tell you something else, "I don't think I can trust you anymore."
"So, that's it?" You asked.
"What else do you want to talk about, Y/N? It's not like you're going to be honest with me anyway."
"What is wrong with you, Camilo? You weren't like this before! What did I do wrong? Why are you being like this? You know I tried for you — so, so hard, and this is what we'll end up being?"
"Where were you the times that I needed you? Disappearing all the time. Have you heard what they're saying about us, Y/N? Have you heard how much they hated this thing between us?" He turned around to face you, nose starting to flush red, eyes getting glossy, and ears turning into a deep shade of crimson.
"Thing? This thing is what this relationship means to you? And I know. I've heard! Why would you listen?! I thought we shouldn't mind them because we have each other?! What's going on with the both of us, Camilo? Do you still feel something? Am I still someone to you? Did the words get right into your head? Because I don't understand anything." The house creaked underneath you, but you were both too into the heat of the moment that none of you decided to back down.
"Then maybe we don't have each other after all," he mumbled.
"What?" You questioned under your breath as you looked at him in disbelief. What did he just say? That was that. The knot that twined your heart in place snapped as if it dropped to your stomach, feeling the pain of what you never thought would come. Does this mean what you think it means?
Even the Madrigal himself was taken aback by what he said, but because of determination to win this argument, he stuck with it. He watched as your frown got more intense, a tear slipping from your eye that he used to cherish so much. You quickly wiped it off with your fingers and fought your desire to break down in front of him.
"I knew you were embarrassed to be with me this whole time. Of course, because you just had to be so perfect, do you?" You shrugged your shoulders in defeat, looking at him in the eyes and expressing yourself through your words. Your voice was shaking. It felt so restrained from the huge lump on your throat. "Ah, the amazing Madrigal!" You sarcastically waved your hands to mock the cheers he received outside the doors of Casita. "So alluring, so gifted, so perfect!"
"And then there's me," you continued, your arms falling to your sides. "The art prodigy who tries so hard to please everyone like a dog but with a brush, the useless child of my parents, the pity-joiner of the Madrigals. Who would believe that you dated me without explanations, right? Because I'm Y/N the one everyone should pity and at the same time, talk bad about. I'm Y/N who's an embarrassment, and a liar."
"Y/N, no." Camilo tried to walk towards you and grab your hand, but you stepped back and pulled your hand away before the warmth of his skin touched yours.
"I'll apologise to Abuela and explain for you." You turned around and opened the door, but before you left, you did one thing that made your significant other's freckled cheeks stained with tears. You swivelled and embraced him one last time, taking his hand and forcing it to open. You took the necklace made out of shells off your neck and placed it there, closing his palms once again. A hand of yours found its way to his cheek, wiping the hot liquid.
"Maybe it's not me," you finally said. "Maybe it's not me all along, and I understand."
"Please, Y/N. I didn't want it to end this way. Don't leave," he whispered and pulled you in a hug, soaking your sleeves with his wet tears. "Stay. I'm sorry. I'm sorry I couldn't trust you enough. I'll be better, I promise. I'll tell them to stop. I'll teach myself how to treat you better. I'll learn for the best, just don't leave."
But you weren't sure if that was true anymore. You've felt and felt it all that you couldn't take it back. So, you pat his back, pulled away, shook your head and walked out.
By the time you did, you heard an argument downstairs. So, you went and checked it out only to find Mirabel and the head of the house fighting in the middle of their own home. The candle's bright light was slowly getting dimmer and the house creaked again.
" — but it is not an excuse for you to hurt this family!"
You watched the scene unfold, unable to speak in your state. You felt like you didn't have the right to. A few more things were said. You wanted to go and take Mirabel by the hand so you could walk out for some fresh air, but something held you back. God, why were you so scared of them?
"I will never be good enough for you, will I? . . . No matter how hard I try." A painful sensation in your chest was felt again. You concentrated your gaze on the youngest child of Tía Julieta and Tío Agustín.
"Mirabel?" You called, giving her a look to be careful. She turned to you and quickly looked away.
"No matter how hard any of us tries. Luisa will never be strong enough. Isabella won't be perfect enough. Y/N? Even if they weren't a part of us, they deserve better for sticking up to someone who needed it. And Bruno left our family because you only saw the worst in him. "
"Bruno never cared about this family!" Abuela exclaimed as you frowned, mumbling a sombre 'what?'. Not noticing Camilo who got out of his room once he heard the commotion downstairs. There he spotted you but looked away, trying to refrain from ever thinking of what just happened. His family needed him now.
"He loves this family. I love this family. We all love this family. You're the one who doesn't care. You're the one breaking our home." The group shook as the floor around them cracked. You were alarmed by this and quickly looked around.
"Don't you ever — "
"The miracle is dying because of you!"
You gasped and looked at Mirabel. You understood what she felt, and took the words right out of everyone's mouth. Suddenly, the ground between them cracked, snapping them into two different spaces.
"No, no, no, no, no!" Tía Pepa shouted in distress.
"Mirabel, the candle!" You yelled from upstairs and tried your best to think of a way to get there and help Mirabel, but something — someone else made it into your mind in a panic.
He must not know what was happening. Or maybe he was, and he was listening. You pitied the man, truly. You were his only friend, not knowing he had already met Mirabel and Dolores and Antonio already knew about his presence behind the walls.
"Casita, get me up there!" The girl who wore glasses went up the ladder Casita prepared from the upstairs railing.
"Be careful, Mira!" You said. Isabella tried to go after the candle just like Mirabel was, but failed once she struck a wine only for it to disappear due to the fading magic.
"Y/N, you have to get out!" You heard Pepa shout from downstairs, but you were too stubborn to listen causing Camilo to frown as you ran somewhere.
"I need a diversion! I have to warn someone about this!" You told Mirabel.
"What?! A diversion?"
"For something behind the painting!" You replied, causing Mirabel's eyes to light up, understanding what you just said.
"Be careful, Y/N!"
Well, it looked like you didn't even need diversion after all. The eyes of the Madrigals were set on your friend and that was exactly what you needed. You quickly ran towards the painting with a secret passage behind it. The rats were running out in panic.
On the other hand, Antonio pointed to where you've gone only to see you disappear behind the frame. "Where is Y/N going?"
Camilo mentally groaned. He could've known you were going to do this, but he just couldn't fathom ever losing you to this accident. So, he readied his stance and ran. Thinking you might be taking a secret passageway to the tower where the candle was placed, he aimed for it and took a big leap, shape-shifting to make himself succeed on the mission. But, the fight messed with the magic, the candle was dimmer, fallen, and the tiles were cracked. The magic was getting weaker and weaker and soon, he joined Isabella on the ground, looking at each other with worry painted all across their faces.
Mirabel however, continued to save the candle, thinking to herself that she hoped Casita would help you if had gone under bad things during your time trying to save Bruno.
"Mirabel, leave it!"
She couldn't. Before she could tiptoe to get the candle, she saw her dear Tío Bruno out and safe with a bucket over his head and a rat he considered as his only companion.
"Oh, no. Y/N." She whispered to herself, but there was no time. She had to save the miracle. She fully believed in her friend, you. You were clever in many more ways than one.
You were struggling to walk through the falling bits of the walls as you examined how ruined the passageway was to Bruno's home for the past decade. You were coughing. It was hard to see from the mist that the dust created and some of it getting in your eye. "Bruno? Tío Bruno? Hernando?!" You called out.
Your struggle kept getting worse and worse as the ground shook again but this time, more intense. The roof was falling apart above you, and all you had were your hands to cover your head. Your skin had spots of purple, cuts of red, and your heart was beating fast inside your chest. You were getting hopeless of getting out of here, but you had someone to save.
What if . . . Bruno's already safe?
The standing roof above your space cracked and creaked. You mumbled quiet no's. You were scared. There was no denying it. You were afraid if it would hurt to die, but not afraid of death itself. It was pain that you most certainly feared, and oh the things you would give right now just to feel numb.
"Camilo?!" You called in fear. "Mirabel?!" You circled in your place until you saw an open spot when Bruno must have left. You were about to head out when the roof fell, blocking your only way out. "Casita?!"
"No, no, no," you muttered over and over until you noticed a small creature crawling through a small crack. It looked up at you. It was one of those rats and it looked weak.
You gasped, "You're one of Tío Bruno's friends. The aunt in the telenovela." You gently took it with your dust covered hands, covering it protectively. "I'll get you out of here."
You squinted your eyes at the small entrance where the rat came from. It seemed to have come back for something as the crack led to the painting. You just had to remove this big wood blocking the way. Or maybe, you had to go over it. You looked up and found an open space. "Hang on tight on my shirt, okay?"
You settled it in your top's pocket and carefully made your way over the blockade, getting yourself out of the passage before it crumbled completely. And now you were standing there on the ruined second floor. The wood underneath you moved with life, "Casita, where's Mirabel?"
The wood you stepped on snapped as you whimpered, "She'll make it work, I know it."
You stepped on the stone part quickly once the wood crumbled, palming your pocket to feel the shaking creature inside. Then, you looked up to see Mirabel struggling as the tower was about to fall down. Casita was getting weaker and weaker.
You knew it could save only one of you.
Your breath hitched at the sound of her screaming. "Mirabel!"
"Casita, whatever happens take care of Mirabel, please!" The despair in your voice was enough to let your friend know what you were about to do. She looked at you in disbelief and shook her head.
"What? No, Y/N. You have to get out of here!"
The time seemed to go so slow as you looked at Mirabel probably the last time before forcing a smile to tug on your lips. You leisurely nodded your head as another tear made its way down your hopeless facade just like the materials that were once you called your second home. You raised a hand slightly, "It'll be fine, Mirabel. Just save the miracle for your family."
You knew it was the end. You knew what you were signing up for. You knew the risks, and Mirabel Madrigal had more important roles. You believe in her. You know she could do it. She was the strongest of the Madrigals, and bias or not, that's what you believed.
"Y/N! Mirabel!" You heard everyone calling and then,
"No! You can't do this. Y/N!" She protested, but it was already too late once the stone pillar that used to support the second story of the house crumbled, sending you down without support. Your body was already sore, and you would be lying if you said it didn't hurt. It hurt badly. "Y/N!"
The chair, the door, whatever it was, you saw it moving over to Mirabel to act as a shelter to protect her from the falling debris. You felt something coming to you but it soon stopped right before it could do something to alleviate the impact of the last of La Casa Madrigal's piles and rubbles on you.
The rocks, dust, woods, steels and other more things came raining down on your helpless figure, putting your hands to cover your neck and at the same time, making room for Bruno's tiny companion so it could live.
The rat squeaked so many times, syncing with the sound of your groans and the falling objects. You didn't know what it was that hit your side that it hurt so bad you couldn't help but scream. You heard your name everywhere. There were different voices in the static noise you heard. You whimpered, still feeling the urge to live, but it was all slowly fading as you felt weaker, colder, . . . numb. The last that you saw was the rat moving to your neck to squeal endlessly, trying its best to keep you conscious.
It smelled so much like dust and iron with your blood. You were scared. You were so afraid. You were helpless and in such terrible pain as you felt the weight of the debris above you. You couldn't get yourself to say anything.
Your breath was shorter, faster as if you were chasing your hope to live. You shut your burning eyes with piercing tears, but before you could think of something to do, the faces of the people that mattered to you played like a movie scene, bidding you goodbye.
Memories were rewinded, keeping you calm, not knowing it was the last of what you'd see as you felt the blood rushing in your veins slowly falter.
It was your fifth birthday when you received your very first set of art materials and your father was smiling widely, holding the warm hand of his beloved over his shoulder as they looked at their child exploring the world of imagination. You giggled as you painted a four-legged creature coloured in grey with pink tail. "Estás recibiendo pinturas por toda tu ropa, mi amor." ( You're getting paint all over your clothes, my love. ) You heard your mother chuckle.
"I heard you crying, what's wrong?" You remembered the time you were much older but still so fresh and young staring up at a doe-eyed Dolores. Then, Isabella came handing you some flowers in an attempt to make you smile at the loveliness. Mirabel lent you a hand to help you to your feet as Felix and Agustín took the canvas with your proudest painting yet from the puddles of mud. Pepa made it thunder, glaring at the children who caused the catastrophe. And there came Julieta with her arepas, giving you one so it could heal the scrape on your knee. Their abuela cleared her throat as she slowly walked towards you, "We've been expecting you, but it seems as though I need to have a word with the children's guardians in town to refrain this from ever happening again."
That's when you slowly looked up and up to La Familia Madrigal. They were caring people and had loved your art, asking you to paint them instead of using the fast method of the camera. Even Casita insisted that you paint a beautiful pattern on its ground. And that pattern that remained etched on the floor for so many years. You remembered how they all looked at you. As if you needed a careful touch of protection. As if you were a part of their family.
And what hurt the most was when you thought you fit in, when you thought you're already a part of them, you had messed up and lost the opportunity to be a true Madrigal not by name but at heart.
That's when your mind clicked on someone else. Someone who made you feel so true, as if you were the art you painted.
( Hello! Please play 'Dos Oruguitas by Sebastián Yatra' while reading this part. I promise it's what makes it more fun to read. You won't even regret it! )
You remembered the first time you ever got to say a word to Camilo Madrigal — Where the sky was clear and filled with lighter shades of blue. Where the birds flew so freely with the cotton clouds, and the sun was so bright it could turn the world into a spinning jewel. He was younger, smaller, care-free but still taller. You recalled the warmth in his smile, sending you to fall without warning. He was radiant, and you adored the way you saw him look at you. The way you met was common and simple, like any other interactions strangers have. Nevertheless, he never failed to make your hand spark. He lit up your heart with joy.
Then months passed by again, that's when you saw him brighter, clearer. Camilo Madrigal! What a name to speak like ancient poetry. His smile became wider every time he spotted you in a crowd, or was it just you? His crooked teeth a few years back became so perfect you swore you saw it sparkle. Or was it his eyes when he talked about what made his day better? You weren't sure why you felt like this, but you found it better than staring at your accomplished works.
Because he was art itself. He was the root of the trees you painted with earthly versions of brown, just like his eyes and stars of freckles that scattered across his sun-kissed skin. Every stroke, every brush, every little spray of pigment on him was perfect. He was so perfect in your eyes even despite his own flaws.
He was the field of roses and daisies. The valley of fireflies up the mountains hued with orange and purples. His words swayed you in every way just like the moment you danced under the golden light of the town. It was the necklace made with seashells that bound you together the night he held your hands and expressed how his heart beat fast whenever you were present. How he has never even ever felt that way before, or maybe that was just because you and him were young and didn't know what exactly loving was.
That necklace of seashells was the symbol of his affections to you, made only with determination and feelings that bow could never be.
Camilo wasn't like that anymore. He wasn't the same as the kid you danced with the night the moon was full above Encanto, wondering what it was like to be human and not just a celestial body peering over the darkened clouds.
He never held your hand, never looked at you the way he used to. He was a burning flame slightly fading and you didn't know what caused it, but to you, he was still as perfect. He was the world itself and you put your faith in him.
"The Madrigals only pitied them, that's why they're always in their house."
"Why would they always come? Aren't their parents taking care of them enough?"
"I heard they don't know how to pronounce 'denouement'. Maybe that's why their parents couldn't stand them."
"That's a little harsh. You should feel bad for them."
"Everyone pities Y/N, Allerà. That's why they're getting the special treatment."
"Camilo must be embarrassed to be with them."
"If only he could see how much of a mess they truly are."
You quietly sobbed at the memories. You remembered how you argued with Camilo, how he didn't even flinch to say the words you dreaded to hear. He was careless when he held you. And soon, he cried just for you. He begged you to stay, chased after you when you decided to be selfless again.
'You didn't deserve to be with a Madrigal from the very beginning anyway. What were you thinking? Did you really think you could be a part of them?'
You squeezed your eyes shut to get rid of the voices, but it was of no use. But then, it was replaced with the last of your memories.
"What happened, Antonio?" You asked the frowning boy, looking at the ground so little compared to you.
"I fought with the other kids today, Y/N. They were really mean," he explained and looked up at you as you raised his chin, smiling sadly.
"What did they say?"
"They were talking bad about you." Suddenly, Camilo walked in with a frown as he heard the response. He brought his palm to his forehead and groaned.
"They're crossing the line. I'm going to talk to them tomorrow. Don't worry, Antonio. We'll never let them say mean things to Y/N again."
"Camilo, please. Just let them be. It doesn't hurt me."
"Stop lying to me to save them, mi amor. I know how it affects you," he said and looked at Antonio, "Papa called for you outside."
And once Antonio was out of the room, Camilo rushed to you and opened his arms to bring you in closer to his chest, letting you rest your head on his shoulder. "You don't have to be afraid, Y/N. We have each other until Encanto crumbles — which will never happen, by the way, so that means forever and forever will be you and m — "
"Sh," you placed your finger on his lips and placed a small kiss on his forehead, "I'm already okay. You don't have to worry."
If only you could laugh, you would. The irony of that moment and the literal crumbling of Encanto, what a jest.
You wanted to live, but you had already lived your life. There was enough happiness and despair. You were satisfied with that. So, with the last of your energy, you smiled, embracing the fact that this was your fate. You were bound to live lifeless. And this was your peace greeting you, no matter how hard and painful.
"I'll be fine." You reassured the rat before your curled fingers slowly uncurled, your eyes closed without another sense, and your body shut down. The noises you heard were gone. The colours that flushed you to life were faint. Your body numbed, and the voices that called your name were never heard again.
Unfortunate, that's what you were.
Camilo instantaneously ran across the ruined home, careless about the fact that Pepa told him not to. His heart was pounding like a constant drum. The boy's face was etched with worry as his eyes landed on his cousin who successfully saved the candle, but now there was something different about it. The light was gone.
Mirabel sobbed as Julieta ran fast to hug her. Camilo was next to consult his cousin. "Mirabel! Goodness, I was so worried. You shouldn't have gone for the candle." She squeezed her tight as she sobbed and held on to her mother.
"Mirabel, are you okay?" Camilo asked. She looked at him and shook her head.
"I'm sorry, Camilo," she said. His heart panged with more fear at her answer. A breath escaped his lips as his heart stung. He knew what she meant, but he had to be sure. He couldn't accept it.
"Sorry for what?" He questioned, but his cousin only gave him a look through her glasses, her eyes watering with tears.
The freckled boy leisurely shook his head and took a step back, not wanting to believe what her eyes told him that happened. He looked away, "No, they can't be."
"Y/N's alive, Mirabel. I know it." He said in denial as he tugged his poncho to cover himself from the cold that made him shiver but, perhaps it wasn't the cold. It was something else.
"What is it? What happened?" Pepa suddenly asked as she walked closer to place a hand on Camilo's shoulder, but he resisted, holding back the tears threatening to spill.
"Mamí, I don't see Y/N anywhere," Antonio mumbled. Felix quickly took him and turned him around so he wouldn't witness the dreaded things. He covered the boy's ear with his hand and instructed him to use his hands to block his hearing.
"Where are they?" Isabella asked.
"I don't know. They were somewhere over there, but I don't know where they ended up."
"I can't hear anything. Our powers are gone."
Agustín sighed and gave his daughter a reassuring pat, "We'll find them."
"Stay here, Mirabel. Don't move until I find something for you and Y/N."
Soon, everyone scattered around to look for the missing subject, Camilo being the first to run around and digging from all of the litters that could have possibly had you underneath. He never stopped. Even if his hands shook and weakened, he never gave up.
He earned cuts and scrapes from all of it, but he just couldn't let you be. He prayed he wouldn't find you in danger. He wished he would but rather you unharmed. He pushed through the mountains of discarded matters, chest heaving and scared of what he might find.
"Come on, come on, Y/N. You better not be — "
He wouldn't know what he would do if he ever finds you under one of these. His eyes were stinging with tears, and he couldn't even say a thing. There was a lump stuck in his throat. He swore he felt dizzy from it. The thoughts of you gone? He shut his eyes closed. No, you wouldn't end up like that. You were strong.
"Camilo!" He heard Pepa call. He turned and looked at his mother who, despite having her powers gone, somehow had Encanto's troposphere drizzling. Her eyes told him something, something he desired to be clueless off, and that's what made him look at everyone else for confirmation. Every single one wore the same solemn look which scared him.
The hairs of his body stood as he tried to blink his tears off, letting out a sob he refrained before he sprinted towards the spot where they found you. His life, the sun in his world, the tree that stood so tall in the field of his life. The only one in the billion he cared to envision his future with.
And when he saw you there, his world stopped. His steps stuttered. His eyebrows furrowed and pulled upwards to where it met at the sight. The lump on his throat only got bigger causing him to let it all out as he shook his head in denial once again, "No. Y/N!"
He rushed towards you and pushed the big chunks of wood and stone that weighed your unresponsive state. Agustín and Felix both helped the boy who desperately took the boulders off, weeping as he did so.
"It's going to be fine. I'm here, I'm here!" You were now accessible to get out of the narrow space you've struggled in. Your back was facing the grumbling sky as Pepa couldn't help herself but gasp and turn around not wanting to see how you ended up under the wreckage, cheeks wet with tears and blood as it rested on your left arm. Your free hand was embracing your cold skin but also appeared as if you were protecting something from being crushed by the weight.
He grabbed you by the shoulder and turned you around, but you were still stuck. He turned to the men, "They're still stuck — please get them out. I can't do it, I hate to — I just — " He couldn’t finish himself in between his hitching breath. It was getting harder and harder to breathe the second he processed more and more of what happened to you. He was angry, but most of his feelings were showered with grief and regret.
Once you were released, he laid your head on his lap, placing his palm on your face he used to adore. Look at how you turned out. If he hadn't let you go, you wouldn’t have suffered. "Y/N, I got you now. Wake up."
This is the part where he couldn't hold himself any longer and cried out in defeat, embracing you in an attempt to warm you. “I’m here. I was looking for you. I kept calling you. I wanted to apologise, and when I saw you go inside to do whatever it was you were so selfless enough to do, I just — I lost it.”
He shook your shoulders and brushed the strand of hair that covered your face that he held so delicately as if it was porcelain and glass all at the same time, "It's time to get up, mi vida."
It started pouring heavier rain as Camilo heard his mother weeping along with everyone else. Then, footsteps were heard appearing to have run far away. Mirabel. She must have had enough of swallowing the lump in her throat. No matter how it pained her, she didn’t want anyone to see her crying. She needed her time alone. You were her best friend. You stood by her, and you acted like her older sister even despite only being many months old. To think that she could never see you again. She whispered incoherent words.
He was getting more and more frustrated. He just wanted you back. Was that so hard? Camilo blamed the rain, the candle, anything that he could because of his fury, but what good did it do?
"Wake up. Wake up!" He exclaimed as he shook you even harder. Your eyes he was excited to see the very first thing in the morning that you came to visit his family to bring spices your parents worked hard to make never fluttered open. They were as still as your body, refusing to wake up no matter how hard he tried to bring you back. He regretted it. He regretted every single thing he told you earlier that day. He wanted to bring every word back to himself, and he would do anything just to make that happen. He would trade his soul for you to wake up and flash him that smile that never changed.
For him you were art. You truly were the most brilliant striking art he's ever seen, and out of all the paintings you made, you were the only one he never got tired of looking at. You were the landscape of his own world, the view that recharged him whenever he was exhausted from cheering people up. He didn't know what exact pigment they were but your lips and eyes fascinated him to the very core.
"Why would you come back?! Why would you risk your life? I told you. I told you to stay. If only I knew, I wouldn't have let you."
To see the colours wash away from you felt like he himself was at the verge of his death. How could he live without you? How could he get up every morning knowing that there wouldn't be a familiar knock on the door of his home? How could the sun rise if you weren't there?
The world was a black and white film before you came along and changed the way of living. Now it was back to where it had all begun, and once again, he was hopeless.
Living is not living without the person that made the gloomy days better.
"I'll do better, I swear, just come back!"
He gripped your shirt and rested his head on top of yours as the rain washed the tears away, removing the blood on your skin, and soaking every single one of you with the droplets of liquid from the sky, "Come back, come back, come back!" He whispered, his hands shaking from how his fingers clutched the fabric of your cloth.
"Remember the first painting you gave me? Remember how I clumsily stumbled and ripped the canvas, but instead of you yelling at me, you laughed and told me you could make it again? Or that time when we both stole arepas from Tía Julieta's kitchen and she chased after us with a rodillo?" He chuckled and stared at your hands, slowly twining your fingers with his. "What about living in a house together, just you and I when we grow up? What about eating and joking around, laughing until our stomachs hurt? What if having each other until — until Encanto falls apart? Come on, you have to get up. You have to wake up. Please, please, amor. I need you. I — "
"Camilo," Dolores put a hand on his shoulder as she bent her knees to sit beside him. He glanced at his sister. She squeezed him, reassuring him before her eyes mirrored hopelessness.
He did admit. He was growing tired. His eyes couldn't cry anymore. His heart broke, but nothing else came out of him, just exhaustion from being a blubbering mess.
He looked at what used to be his life and death, and suddenly, a rat came crawling on his shoulder, squeaking and pointing to his partner.
Isabella was next to sit beside him, "They must have saved this little thing."
That only hurt more. He didn't know what to do, but it wasn't out of his knowledge that he needed some time alone to himself and his feelings. He wished you were here. He wished it so bad but,
"There's nothing else we can do," Dolores whispered in a melancholic tone.
He gently rested you back to the ground, "I'll come back."
"Camilo, where are you going?"
Nowhere. He didn't know what else to say, do, or think. He was completely blocked. The boy wasn't sure if he wanted to ask for help from anyone else. He wanted to disappear. He stood up and turned around, pushing past his family to run off somewhere he could be alone.
The rat squeaked louder to get everyone's attention. Its tiny paw pointed to you as your eyelids twitched once.
Isabella turned to it, "What's going on?"
The rat squeaked again. Dolores snapped her head in its direction this time. "What?"
It pointed to you. This time it was your chest that showed signs of life, moving slightly. This alarmed the cousins, "Y/N!"
"They're gone, Isabella," Agustín sobbed.
"No. Pa, look! I think they're alive!"
Camilo turned around at that.
You wanted to live. You wanted to breathe again. What is this void? Why do you feel tired? Why does everything hurt? All you wanted was to feel alive. You were not ready to say goodbye. Not now. It can't be now. You still desired a life with the Madrigals. You want to see Camilo every single day. You want to witness every flower bloom, hear every gossip you can, eat so much you'll feel like you'll pop, watch the sun and dance under the rain, paint your family all over again. You wanted your heart to beat so fast, feeling alive than you have ever before.
You wanted to live. You needed to live.
You felt weak. What was happening? Why was it so cold? You felt your finger twitch.
Camilo's eyes widened and immediately went to you, gently pushing the women in his family aside as he walked towards you and looked at the rat with a grateful nod. "Y/N? Y/N. Can you hear me?"
You heard it, all right. But everything was muffled. Your body suddenly trembled, you felt like you bathed in a tub of Alaskan snow.
You opened your eyes slightly as it burned from the light. The static noises were back again and the pain on your back struck you with a crashing wave of displeasure. You winced, "Camilo?"
He could barely make out what you were saying, but the way your lips moved was familiar and he knew exactly what you had just said. It was his name he never thought he could hear from you again.
He smiled and hugged you tighter, "Yes, that's my name! That's exactly my name! You're awake — "
"I'm sorry," hot tears fell again as you hugged the soaking wet boy.
"It's not your fault, corazon. It never was!" He kissed your forehead once, twice, three times and more, savouring the moment that you were alive. You were okay, barely, but you were here again in between his arms.
He quickly removed his poncho and draped it over your shoulders as you were freezing cold. Suddenly, the clouds cleared up and the sky was blue again, just like the moment you and him talked for the first time.
"I thought I'd lost you. I thought you're gone and I couldn't live with myself."
Perhaps you were not unfortunate after all. Mirabel, Abuela, and . . . was that Bruno? It was! They all arrived at the right moment as they came rushing towards you once again crushing you with their embrace.
"Woah, woah, woah! Everyone take it easy on them. They're still hurt!" Camilo protectively warned as he cupped your cheek again, you leaning against his palm.
He's so young he never believed he knew what love is, but seeing you, there he knew the answer to his own question.
You were his faith and his faith resided in you. You were home. You were everything to him and not a million diamond could ever compare.
Who could have believed that out of all those artworks that you painted, whether it offends you or not, you were still the best piece of all.
You were not an artless progeny of your loving parents. You were not a fleeting belief. You were just you. Just you who completed the puzzle in his life.
And when your parents found out what happened to you, let's just say all hell broke loose. But there was nothing a Madrigal and a flawless Y/N can't resolve.
Who knew his epiphany has always been destined to be found under the fallen debris?
i'm really sorry this took so much time to write and i also apologise for it being so long. but anyways, here it is! the longest bit i've ever written. i hope it reached the emotions i was going for. i got lazy at some parts, but i promise i'll fix them tomorrow. i only got to proofread half of it and it's currently 12:33 AM. my head aches and i don't know if i should get up to take medicine or just go to sleep.

“The miracle is dying because of you!”
A rough rumble leads your eyes to look up at the Casita in alarm. The cracks in the walls were worse. The tiles crumbled to the floor around you.
“No no- It’s falling-!” Pepas voice yelled out, alerted. Then, the house began to tumble. From your spot opposite of the once arguing family, you watch as Camilo immediately began to move towards you.
Unlike his family, you had no powers to protect yourself. It seemed the house had other plans, because as soon as Camilo stepped forward, the tiles underneath his feet lift, rolling him back and nearly into a wall,
“Everyone get out!! Now!” Felixs shout startles you to finally move your legs, gasping as you foot catches on a moving tile, dropping to your hands and knees with a hiss of pain.
“Y/N!” You hear Pepas shriek for you, looking up in time for Camilo to shove off the wall, Felix and Pepa both beginning to shout for their son,
“Camilo!” Pepa calls, desperately, Camilo exhaling breathlessly as he slides across a knocked over table, “Camilo stop!! Be careful!”
The boy slides to his knees in front of you, hands grasping your arms to tug you- hard- against his front, your arms wrapping around him to duck into his chest, feeling debris begin to rain above you as the house gave out.
You hear scraping as Pepa continued to scream, eyes barely opening to see that Casita had shielded you and Camilo with pieces of wood, your gasp sharp as the house finally collapsed, Camilos arms tightening around you in alarm.
Silence, and you slowly lift your head to flinch as the wood dropped onto the ashed floor, dust covering you as you glance up at Camilo, who worriedly raised his hands to your face to wipe said dust from your cheeks,
“Mijo!” Pepas call alerts you both to look over, the woman skidding in front of your knelt figures to raise a hand each to yours and Camilos faces, her hand overtop of Camilos, “Are either of you hurt?”
“No,” You murmur, shifting to stand when feeling a tug at your ankle, looking back to see a large piece of debris had landed on your left leg, your brows pinching at the sudden pain that shot through,
“Dios mio- Felix!” Pepa shouts over her shoulder, both her husband and brother in law, Agustin, running up to see your position. Both men lift at the debris, your hand immediately grasping your ankle that began to throb
“Julieta,” Pepa raises her head in search for her sister as Camilo slipped a hand to your back, holding you upwards, “Julieta!”
“Easy, mi vida,” Camilos hand slides to your arm, the oldest sister of the two moving in front of you, hands faltering when realizing- none of them had their powers now that Casita was gone- she wouldn’t be able to heal you.
“Let me wrap this,” Julieta murmurs, propping your foot at her knee as she easily pulls a wrap of bandages from her dress, your wince visible to the mother as she tightly out the wrap at the bruised skin.
“Camilo, what were you thinking?” Camilo looks up at Pepas sudden scold, his brows pinched,
“She was in danger,” He exhales, “She could’ve been hurt, she was hurt!”
“Casita was protecting her,” Pepa rushes, watching as Camilo then stood, taking your hands to raise you to your feet, his hand then shifting to your hip as you lifted your injured foot.
“Mama, I can’t argue about this,” Camilo barely glances at his mother, before his hand raises to your face, tucking hair from your forehead before smearing more dust from under your eye,
His whisper is soft as he shifts an arm to your back, the other reaching behind your legs to lift you up, your arms wrapping at his shoulders as Agustin lead him to sit you towards Abuela at what used to be the front of the house.
By the next day, La Casa de Madrigal had been rebuilt and the family had regained their powers. Abuela and Mirabel had made up, both needing a sit down with one another. Bruno had came back home, everything seemed to be coming back to normal.
You lift your foot to rub the swollen spot from your spot on the kitchen counter, Julieta moving towards you and Camilo with an arepa in her hand, smiling as she held it out for you to take.
“Gracias, Julieta,” You smile back, taking a bite out of the healing food before lifting your foot out, wiggling your shoe so Camilo got the hint to unwrap the bandage, the healing shown to work as your foot was no longer red or bruised.
Julieta hums in satisfaction, twisting to face her daughter as Isabella asks for help, Camilo setting the bandage to the side to step between your legs, his hands at your hips,
“Why’d you do that?” Your question causes his brows to furrow, curls shifting as his head tilts. Your hands raise to his shoulders, sliding to knot your fingers in said curls, “You risked yourself for me. Pepa was right, Casita was protecting me,”
“But what if Casita hadn’t?” Camilo shoots back, your eyes casting downwards so his thumb lifted to your chin, tilting you to gaze at him, “I have my gift for a reason. It’s not necessarily good in some parts, but I’ll always try to protect you, mi amor,”
You smile, sliding your hands to the front of his face, bringing him closer to you so your lips touched, his hand falling back down to your thigh with a giddy smile,
“I love you,”
“I love you, more,”
shoot your shot

It was another perfect day in the little valley of Encanto. The sun was shining brightly over the tall mountains that the little town had been nestled in, the morning mist made delicate dew drops on every surface it could perch on, all was well. It was a good morning for everyone. Until the Madrigal twins’ bickering had echoed from the town square.
Most residents had sighed heavily at this, knowing the commotion all too well.
Camilo Madrigal had grumbled up at the figure beside him as they walked, a boy who looked very much like him and in to the untrained eye, one might think Camilo had made a clone of himself but that wasn’t the case. Beside him was the one and only Carlos, his younger twin brother.
It was safe to say that the early years of their childhood was filled with Pepa’s thunderous clouds. The boys had trouble written all over them. Often getting into fights with one another and wreaking havoc in their Casita.
The chaos only worsening when the two had gotten their gifts. Camilo had the gift to shape shift as did Carlos but rather than using it to help the village like his older brother, Carlos Madrigal was dead set on doing the opposite.
It wasn’t that hard to decipher which was which between them despite being twins. Camilo, for example had dark green eyes and his hair was curly and untamed, his ruana a mix of light and dark yellows with the chameleon patterns pointing down. Carlos had chocolate brown eyes, his hair a bit more shorter and wavier rather than curly, and his eyes were half-lidded unlike his brother’s. While Camilo donned a yellow ruana, Carlos’ had a deep maroon ruana adorned with light brown stripes and the chameleon pattern it had pointed upwards.
As his older brother rambled on about something, Carlos had rolled his eyes, smoothening out his ruana. He really could care less about what he was rambling about, Camilo’s words going to one ear and then out the other. He kicked a pebble in his path, inwardly mocking the boy beside him as he talked non-stop.
It was something, something.. creating trouble by using his voice.. yada yada chaos..
Then all too suddenly his rambling stopped. “Finally.” He breathed out with a roll of his eyes. Though that was a first. Camilo’s ramblings lasted a few blocks into town but this time it was cut short. His brows furrowed. Carlos craned his head to look at Camilo but found that his side was empty.
It was like clockwork. During this time, on the same path, on the same direction, he would be left alone and his brother would be nowhere to be found. It was honestly comical how suddenly Camilo was there and then the next, he wasn't.
He blinked, head whipping left and right. Did he just disappear on him again? Only to look back and see Camilo leaning against a wall, smiling at an unfamiliar girl. You’d think in such a small town he would know everyone. In his defense, all of Encanto was unfamiliar to him. He didn’t really waste his time in getting to know everyone when he could just be playing tricks and pranks all over town.
He quirked a brow as he approached them, only now noticing the lovesick expression on his brother’s face. His signature smirk appearing on his features as he found Camilo stumbling over his words a little, a red flush on his cheeks.
Only then could he recognize the person his brother was talking to. He didn’t know your name but he had recognized you as the stern woodcarver’s daughter. His lips curled into a devious grin.
It didn’t take a genius to put two and two together when Camilo had fumbled when you laughed. He snickered as Camilo’s knees almost buckled underneath him. Oh his brother was a simp. A huge simp. He hadn’t seen him this.. pathetic looking. If he could have hearts in his eyes the fool would’ve probably had it. So this was where he was disappearing to?
“Camilo!” He calls out, as if he hadn’t just been observing them from afar. His older brother stiffened at the name, almost going pale as he approached. You had turned to the sound of his voice with a curious tilt of your head and as you did so, Camilo was shaking his head at him and mouthing the words ‘Don’t you dare’ with a narrowed gaze.
This was going to be fun.
“There you are! Oh.. and I see you’re with a friend!” His devilish grin had quickly turned into an angelic smile as he wrapped an arm around his older brother who muttered a quiet ‘Miercoles’ under his breath.
“Well, hermano, aren’t you going to introduce me?”
“This is my brother—“ He starts begrudgingly before he was quickly interrupted by said brother introducing himself instead.
“Carlos Madrigal, muñeca. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” He took your hand in his, winking up at you. “But you’ve probably seen the murals, huh?”
He leant down to press a chaste kiss on your knuckles. “And you are?” Upon hearing your name, the mischievous boy smiled once more. He tested your name, liking the way it rolled off his tongue.
“Beautiful, muñeca, just like you.” He finally says, returning to his deep suave voice.
You arch your brow at the boy’s flirtatious nature, having been quite used to being chatted up by boys and girls alike.
Carlos tried to fight back a smirk as he saw Camilo go wide-eyed and slack jawed. You, however, didn’t have anymore time to dwell on having both devilishly handsome twins' attentions upon hearing your father’s gruff voice call for you to come home.
You smile sheepishly, and bid them a temporary farewell. Camilo had maintained his composure up until you finally disappeared around the corner elbowing Carlos harshly.
“What was that for!?” He hissed, rubbing his sore side.
“What do you mean ‘what was that for’..” Camilo mocked the mimic with a roll of his eyes. “You know what that was for!”
“What? I’m shooting my shot if you aren’t going to. She’s pretty.” Carlos rolled his eyes at Camilo’s antics.
"Well, I was going to before you rudely interrupted, pendejo!" That was a lie. Although he wanted to, he was far too caught up in la la land for him to actually confess.
Carlos smirked. He had lived to rile people up and it seemed Camilo thought he was serious about pursuing you with the way his older brother furrowed his brows at him.
A part of him wanted to reassure his brother that he didn’t need to worry about him getting in the way of his little love story but he wasn’t known as mischief incarnate for nothing. Besides, if he kept on taunting Camilo, he may have the guts to ask you out for real in the future.
He hummed a little tune, smiling smugly as he nodded. He's a good brother, looking out for his older brother's welfare and happiness.. in a way.
"Better hurry, hermano. Or I'll be snatching her for myself." Carlos says, a twinkle of mischief in his eyes.

repost bc for some reason it disappeared from tags :(
camilo has an ego. he's a performer, he needs to look his best. he's got to seem large, confident, bold. appearances were everything, his display of himself was larger than life.
but keeping this up was exhausting. he had to, for his family's sake. he was the funny one. he was sly and confident and happy-go-lucky, and he was tired.
he was so sick of being the bold shapeshifter, he was sick of being special. it was selfish, he knew, but camilo often dreamt of being a normal kid, with a normal life, in an extremely average and ungifted family.
when he met you it was a breath of fresh air. you alleviated him, like a taste of sickly-sweet medicine on a stuffy winter night. your touch was a shock of sweet summer cold on a burning spring evening. you were the perfection of fall and all its wonders. you were his medicine.
sometimes, when camilo wasn't feeling as strong as he should, he would go to you. when he was only feeling like himself and none of his other forms, he'd speak to you. and the two of you would speak for hours.
it didn't matter how late it was or how busy you were. there was always time for him, and he always had time for you. one night, you lay in your bed and he was there too.
the yellow fabric of his ruana pooled on the sheets. you brushed your fingers against his hair. he's facing away from you- you think he might be asleep. his sides are rising and falling like a breathing statue.
he's so tired, you can tell. when he came to join you, his eyes were heavy and his voice was strained. he was curled into you, and now you could feel his body loosening at your touch.
because when he was next to you, camilo felt like he was himself. he didn't have to be anyone else. he was simply camilo, and he could breathe, as deep and as long as he wanted to.
send me headcannons!
Heeey just saw you blog, it looks new so congratulations on it honey 💕 so I was wondering if you would write some headcanons for Camilo, Luisa, Isabela, Mirabel and Bruno (don't know if ur comfortable writing for so much just in one so feel free to change) about how would they react if their s/o gave them the silent treatment after a fight, like how would they feel before, during and after the "punishment" thx so much ❤❤
thank you! my blog is indeed new, though i've been lurking around the encanto side of tumblr for about 2 weeks now. i included everyone that you asked for in this btw.
want to request? send me a request here or through dms! i will write for any of the encanto characters.
How Camilo, Luisa, Isabela, Mirabel, and Bruno Would React if Their gn s/o Gave Them The Silent Treatment
before / during the argument
he had taken a prank way too far for your liking
you can choose whatever he did that was too far
you were in his room when you confronted him about it
"hey, yk that prank you pulled was way to far" you calmly told him
"oh c'mon y/n, it's just a joke. really it isn't a big deal, don't take it so seriously" he would blow you off
and that pissed you off more than anything
"camilo, i just want an apology for it! the prank was way too far and you know it, it obviously upset me." you would say, irritated.
"it was just a harmless prank, what is there to apologize for? and why are you so angry?" he would throw his arms up in the air, he was mad now too.
you opened your mouth to speak but nothing came out
you were not going to keep telling him what the big deal was
he knew what the big deal was, and why he should apologize
so you were like nope
i'm giving him the silent treatment
during the silent treatment
you turned around to leave his room
"hey, where are you going?"
you didn't say anything, only sending him a glare, continuing to make your way out of his room
he followed you as you made your way towards the casita's door
a lot of the family was just sitting there watching you storm out
and they were just kinda like "ohh shit"
because they knew that this was probably going to put pepa in a bad mood
"c'mon y/n, wait!"
but you only walked right out the door
and camilo just kind of sat there staring at the door for a second
pepa would look at dolores, in hopes that she may have heard what happened
and of course she did
so she would lean in and whisper what happened to her mother
and a cloud would start forming above her head
pepa viewed you as her own
she absolutely adored you
so it definitely upset her when you and camilo would get in an argument
her and felix would be disappointed in camilo for not apologizing for hurting you
camilo couldn’t sleep good that night knowing he hurt you
and also knowing that you were giving him silent treatment
usually you guys didn’t get petty about arguments, plus you two were usually good at communicating through disagreements to keep you guys away from arguments
you kept the silent treatment going for 3 days
camilo would try to come and talk to you during his breaks between chores
but every time you would just glance up at him briefly and then get right back to what you were doing
after the silent treatment
on the fourth day, he came up you during one of his breaks like he has been for the past few days
you were tired of not getting to talk to him, after all you loved him
but, you weren’t going to stop until he wanted to apologize
you would glance over at the curly haired shapeshifter, but then go right back to what you were doing
“look at me... please? i need to talk to you.”
so you would look at him again
“look, i’m sorry...” he’d say, scratching his neck
you would turn around fully now, tilting your head, signaling him to go on
“i know my prank went way too far, you know it was never my intention to hurt you, i hate upsetting you.”
you’d smile and pull him into a hug
camilo’s tense form finally relaxed
you’d pull away but keep your arms around his neck
“i’m so glad i don’t have to keep this silent treatment up anymore.” you’d tell him with a giggle
“me too, i couldn’t stand it.”
“i love you.”
“i love you too, mi vida.” camilo whispered, placing a kiss on your lips
before / during the argument
you noticed that luisa was overdoing it again
so, you tried to have a talk with her about taking breaks when she needs, and stuff like that
but she kept denying it, claiming she was just fine
and you kept telling her that she wasn’t and that she needed to take rests when needed
finally she snapped at you
you were taken aback
luisa was never the one to snap or yell
she was always way more calm
you just slowly backed up a little
you decided to leave her to do her thing, you just headed back to your house.
during the silent treatment
luisa definitely felt bad for snapping at you
so after she finished her jobs for the day, she came to see if you were at your house
and she caught you right before you were about to walk in
you looked at her, your arms crossed
your posture looked angry, but your face looked upset
“i’m really sorry for snapping at you, you know i didn’t mean to.” luisa looked guilty, holding her arms open in hopes you would come into them
you really couldn’t stay mad at her
you knew she was just under a lot of pressure, she always felt like she had to keep going and going without breaks, feeling that it would weaken her in some way
after the silent treatment
“it’s okay, mi amor.” you told her as you walked into her arms
“i know you struggle with taking breaks and rests, but you deserve it you know? we all need to take breaks sometimes.” you continued
there was a brief silence
“thank you for always caring for me, it really means more than you know.” luisa whispered
“there’s no need to thank me luisa, i love you, and that’s just what you do when you love some one as much as i love you.”
before / during the argument
you two had been dating since about mid way through out her and mariano’s “relationship”
isa was so scared to tell her family though
she feared that abuela would never approve of your relationship
isa always had to be perfect
and that also included her relationship
abuela wanted her to marry well, possibly into a wealthy family
she also expected kids
so of course, you and her’s relationship was to stay hidden
and she promised you that she would break things off with mariano before things got to serious and tell the family about the two of you
and she did break things of with mariano, but not on her own terms as we all know
it was thanks to mirabel that they didn’t end up engaged
because honestly, you thought that her fear would make it go as far as the engagement
but even after the failed engagement, casita breaking down and being built again, her and mira setting mariano up with dolores, and her abuela becoming more accepting, isa still hadn’t told anyone about your relationship
and honestly at this point you were mad, tired, and kinda hurt by the whole thing
you were scared that maybe she was trying to keep you hidden because isa herself didn’t like your relationship anymore, and she just didn’t know how to break things off with you
so lets say you were sat on her bed one day
isa was still testing what other things she could make with her powers
so she was standing around, waving her hands as she tried to produce a different kind of plant
and it made you happy to watch her roam around freely making whatever plant she pleased now
but the whole relationship thing was still in the back of your mind
you decided that you needed to talk about it
she would turn around from what she was doing to face you
“so, have you decided when you are going to tell your family about us?” you’d ask her
her face expressed one of fear
she was still terrified of telling her family
because part of her still feared that they would reject you
not approve you
and that would hurt her more than anything
because she loved you
“no, not yet. i’m still trying to figure out how to.” she said as she nervously tucked a piece of hair behind her ear
“isa c’mon, there has never been a better time to do it than now!” you would say, throwing your arms up in the air
“look y/n, i’m trying to do it at a good time” she told you, her voice rising the slightest
you scoffed at that, standing now
“isabele now is a good time! i dont know when the hell it will be a good time for you if now isn’t. abuela is becoming more accepting and less strict, and you and mariano aren’t together anymore! when will it ever be a good time for you?!” your voice kept rising and rising, finally yelling out the last sentence
you were right in front of her now, looking at each other
her eyes became angry, but also hurt in a way
“i think you should leave.” she would say coldly, turning away from you
so you did, you left
during the silent treatment
she had tried to come see you later that day, and thats when she realized you were giving her the silent treatment
that night while isabela laid in bed, she was so angry
she thought that she was in the right here
but the longer she laid there, she realized that maybe you were right
now was a good time
she couldn’t just keep you a secret forever
and she didn’t like that she had upset you at all
or the fact that you wouldn’t speak to her
so the next morning she got up and told her mom and abuela that she wanted everyone to meet you over a dinner tomorrow tonight
and of course were fine with it
quite excited to meet you as well
her mom had met you before, she just thought thet two of you were best friends
isa was going to go find you to apologize but as she open the casita door, you were standing on the other side about to knock
“isa, i’m sorry. i was too harsh on you. this whole things just stresses me out. i just want your family to know me.” you told her, and apologetic look on your face
isabela pulled you in a hug
“no, no, you were right. it’s about time i get the guts to do it, i was just so nervous that they wouldn’t approve of you or something. but, i told them that i’d like to introduce them to you, so we’re having dinner tomorrow!”
“really?” you’d ask
isabela would nod her head with a smile
after the silent treatment
the dinner went great
the whole family really liked you
and they could tell that you made isa happy
and they could tell that you two really loved each other
before / during the argument
i cannot think of single argument idea for her
like why are we fighting with her
so, i’d say that when you two do fight (which is rarely), its just something really stupid and petty
during the silent treatment
you didn’t like giving her the silent treatment
and she didn’t either
so i feel like you two would make up pretty fast
after the silent treatment
you’d come back to casita and apologize
and of course she would accept it
and apologize too
and she would cuddle you because she felt bad about the whole situation
before / during the argument
honestly idk what the argument would be about
so you can come up with that and be creative with it
during the silent treatment
this poor man
nobody would see him come out of his room while you were giving him the silent treatment
he would just in there and cry
bruno took the whole thing really hard
he was def on the edge the entire time
he really thought that this could be the end
that you wouldn’t want to be with him anymore
but obvi you were just trying to cool off from the whole situation
(lets say your his wife/husband here)
you’d stay in the town the whole day, helping with whatever you could, just so you wouldn’t have to see bruno
and at dinner you wouldn’t even look at him
you’d try to stay away from seeing him
you were pretty mad
not even sleeping with him bed at night
you opted to bunk with mirabel
and obviously she didn’t mind
and she would really be comforting to talk about the whole argument with
and she would actually encourage you to go talk about it with bruno
and you did
because you knew that she was right
after the silent treatment
you’d go knock on his door
and he wouldn’t answer until you told him it was you
that door opened faster than you have ever seen it open
and he would start to ramble out apologies
and you would shush him
“bruno stop, it’s ok, i forgive you. i blew the whole thing out of proportion.”
that night he held you so tight
as if he let go you might leave
pls never give this man the silent treatment again
he does not handle it well

Alternative title: 'are you high?'
Y/N always knew he could talk to Mirabel about anything.
She’d always be there for him.
So when Y/N found himself in the most embarrassing of troubles, he knew he could count on his best friend.
“Is Mirabel here?” he asked as he stood in the doorway of La Casa Madrigal, his voice weak and tired, a natural occurrence considering he sprinted the whole way there.
He was met with the confused face of Dolores staring at him.
“Uh,” she mumbled, “I think she went out for the day, but she’ll be back la-“
“Y/N!” came a familiar voice.
A sigh of relief left Y/N’s mouth when he saw Mirabel.
Dolores stared at her in confusion, “Aren’t you meant to be doing chores?”
Mirabel scoffed, “I’m sure it won’t be the end of the world if Señor Salazar and Campbell don’t get the dresses for their daughter right this second.”
Dolores eyed her younger cousin, before sighing, “You can deal with him when he’s mad then.” Before walking off.
Y/N stared in confusion as she walked off, before turning back to his best friend, “What was that about?”
Mirabel shrugged, “No idea. Something’s always up with her,” she explained, before turning to Y/N with a smile, “So, what’d you need?”
“Right, uh… can we go up to your room?”
“Sure,” Mirabel nodded, grabbing Y/N’s hand and pulling him inside and up the stairs.
Mirabel pushed open her bedroom, Y/N trailing along behind her as she sat down on her bed, "So, what's the problem."
Y/N hesitated before sitting down next to Mirabel, "It's kind of embarrassing, for a few reasons."
"You know you can tell me, Y/N,"
"I like someone."
Y/N could've sworn he saw Mirabel's face fall for a split second, before she covered it up with a bright smile, "Who?!"
Y/N ran a hair through his hair, "I told you... it's embarrassing."
"Come on!" the girl pushed, shaking Y/N's shoulders slightly.
Y/N groaned, "Ugh, you're way too persistent."
"So I've been told," she said with a nod of her head, "But seriously, dude, just tell me who you like!"
"Fine," Y/N sighed, "But you have to promise to not laugh at me or make fun of me."
Mirabel playfully rolled her eyes, "Whatever, I promise."
Inhaling a deep breath, Y/N whispered, "I like... your primo."
Mirabel's eyes widened in horror, "Antonio?!"
A disgusted look shot on Y/N's face, "Dude, what the fuck, no! Your other primo..."
Mirabel thought for a moment, "My other... Wait..." her eyes widened as she realized, "Y-you like Camilo?"
Y/N just nodded, their cheeks burning in embarrassment.
"What's so embarrassing about liking them?" she asked, getting slightly defensive.
Y/N shrugged his shoulders, "I dunno. I just expected you to make fun of me."
"Pft," Mirabel scoffed, "When have I ever made fun of you?"
A confused look from Y/N was sent to Mirabel, "Yesterday, the time I spilled apple juice on myself, all the times I ran into those poles, when I tripped over tryna do my chores, the list goes on, Mirabel."
"Right," she muttered with a nod of her head, "I'm such a nice friend, aren't I?"
"Mm-hmm," Y/N hummed sarcastically.
"So," Mirabel began, nervously fiddling with her hands, "You're gay?"
Y/N screwed up his face in confusion, "Mira, I came out to you last year, we've had this conversation before," Y/N tried to explain, getting more confused at Mirabel's face full of shock, "What's up with you today, you seem weird?"
Mirabel's eyes widened, a bright red blush covering her cheeks, "Nothing! What's up with you?"
"Are you high?"
"What?" she demanded, her voice raising pitch.
Before the pair could argue anymore, the door burst open, "Camilo, get out of my room!"
Y/N stared wide eyed as Mirabel walked into the room, eyes darting between the two Mirabel's.
"Camilo!" he groaned, glaring at 'Mirabel' sitting beside him, trying to ignore the fact that hos cheeks were burning from embarrassment.
With a nervous grin, Camilo shape-shifted back into himself, "Hey..."
"Cami, get out of my room," Mirabel groaned.
Camilo stood up from the bed and began walking away, "Nice talking to you, Y/N,"
With small finger guns, Camilo left, leaving Y/N frustrated and flustered.
Mirabel rolled her eyes as she shut the door behind Camilo, "Sorry about him," she sighed, sitting down on the bed next to Y/N, "What'd you tell him?"
Y/N gulped, "I came to you wanting to tell you who I had a crush on."
Mirabel couldn't help but bursting out into laughing, earning an eyeroll from the boy beside her, "You told who you have a crush on?! Oh my god, Y/N that's so stupid!"
"How was I supposed to know it was them?"
Shrugging, Mirabel wiped a tear of laughter, before her face turned more serious, "So who do you like?"
Y/N just hid his face in his hands from the pure embarrassment he was feeling.
Suddenly, it dawned on Mirabel, as she raised her eyebrows in surprise, "Shut. Up."
A groan of annoyance left his mouth as Mirabel continued, "You like Camilo!? And you told him that!?"
"Well, I didn't know I was telling him that!" Y/N cried, rubbing a hand through his hair.
"Oh my god," Mirabel whispered, "Finally, something can happen between you two!"
"What do you mean?"
"I've been shipping you two together for ages! Now he knows that you like him, he might have the courage to ask you out!"
"Wait, what?" Y/N asked, staring in confusion as Mirabel stood up and began pacing with excitement, "Why would he ask me out?"
"Why do people normally ask people out? Because they like them."
Y/N rolled his eyes, "I understand that, but he doesn't like me."
"Uh," Mirabel began, "Yes, he does."
"But- that's... he doesn't- no... he's gay?"
"He is?" Y/N asked, eyes glistening with some sort of hope.
Mirabel nodded with a smirk, "Yeah, now go and find him!"
"No!" Mirabel interrupted, placing two hands on her best friend's shoulder to stop him, "I've had too many ships sink because someone was too nervous to make the first move. You and Camilo can not sink, you hear me?!"
"Do. You. Hear me?" Mirabel repeated, staring deep into Y/N's soul.
Y/N shrunk back in fear, sending a weird look toward the girl, "Ok, jeez. I'll go and talk to him."
That was a lie.
The last thing he wanted to do was face Camilo, whether he liked him back or not.
Unfortunately, Camilo had other plans.
When Y/N made his way out of La Casa Madrigal, Camilo was quick to stop him.
Y/N gave a hesitant nod, "Hey..."
"So," Camilo began, leaning against the doorway frame, "If you're not doing anything tomorrow, it's my day off from babysitting, and I was wondering if you wanted to hang out?"
Y/N stared in disbelief, trying to ignore the way his heart was racing, "Are you asking me out?"
Now it was time for Camilo's heart to race as his arm slipped off the door-frame, nearly sending him face first into the ground, though he tried to play it cool, "Y-yeah. Mm-hmm. I-if you want to, that is."
Y/N pursed his lips, "Sure."
"Wait, really?" Camilo's eyes widened in shock, "You're not mad?"
"Yes, I'm mad," Y/N began with a sigh, "But I'm mainly hung up on the fact that you did that and I had didn't know."
A smug smile found its way on Camilo's lips, "What can I say? I'm a pretty good actor,"
Y/N rolled his eyes, "I mean, I could definitely tell that something was up with Mirabel the entire time, but whatever you say."
Camilo only grinned, leaning against the door-frame once again, "So I guess I'll see you tomorrow at ten?"
"Guess I will."
A/N: this is my first Camilo x male!reader so I hope you like, and make sure to give me suggestions
heyy can u do an imagine where like its the morning, and yesterday night camilo and reader slept beside eachother. and the reader basically just drags camilo to the bed again to cuddle bcs they just woke up and still feels sleepy?
cw: camilo. f!reader. soft fluff. not proofread. reblogs are appreciated.
sum: in which you mutter something unexpected that warms his heart.
the rays of the golden hues across the morning sky hit your sleepy eyes as you tried to blink them open. shambling at your position, you woke up cradled in camilo’s arms, legs intertwined and wrapped by a thin blanket.
you inhale the sunlit vanilla aroma from his room, faintly smiling when you listen to the familiar thumping of his heart.
“you awake now, mi corazón?” his hoarse voice whispered to your ears and you can't help but feel the surge of emotions rush in your face.
you responded with a hum, his warm hands tenderly patting your back. he tries to find a way out of your arms, chuckling as you grumble into the loss of contact.
“i’m going to get breakfast for us okay, muñeca?” as soon as the words left in his mouth, you furiously shake your head, arms desperately tugging at his shirt.
“me sleepy, stay you.” you muttered, oblivious to the jumbled words you murmured. he couldn't resist your puppy eyes, so he gave in to your embrace, squeezing your exhausted form.
he plants a clumsy kiss into the top of your head as you stroke his shoulders affectionately. the last thing you remember is both of you giggling at nothing in particular.
the thought of each other makes you fuzzy and mushy inside yet there’s nothing you could possibly want more than to drift off in the arms of the one you love.
with the one last energy you have, you muttered something nonchalantly, thinking he wouldn’t hear you. “te amo..”
but he did. he heard you clearly. he was silent at first, as though pondering something before hesitantly raising your chin.
you melted into the side of his palm, eyes closed and cheeks collided into it and that was all it took for him to wash off the uncertainty on his face.
with one last peck, he pulls you closer to his chest before mumbling, “te amo más, cariña..”
He cried after Camilo raised his voice at him 😭

Today was a special day. It was the first day in weeks that Camilo wasn't completely busy with chores around town, and one of the few days where the two of you had an opportunity to just do whatever you two pleased.
The day had started with Camilo bringing you some arepas his tia had made, sharing a whole plateful with you while you walked through town. His brother, Antonio, had recently shown him a beautiful hiding place near the Encanto's mountains, one where you could see the entire town from. He had wanted to take you there ever since, and today, he planned just to do that.
When you finished your last arepa, you two were already passed the edges of the town, and getting close to the bottom of the mountains.
"You did remember to bring a blanket, right?" you asked him, swinging his hand back and forth gently as you walked. Camilo nodded, gesturing to the bag he had on his other shoulder.
"Yep! Mirabel made a new quilt for me this week, so I just brought my old one."
You giggled and leaned against his shoulder.
"I'm surprised you're even this prepared," you teased, and he rolled his eyes.
"Oh, it gets worse," he said sarcastically. "I brought water and extra snacks, too!"
You gasped dramatically, placing a hand on your chest and bumping your hips into him lightly.
"who are you, and what you have you done with my 'Milo!"
He gave you a wicked grin and spun away from you, his arms bending to resemble the claws of a maniacal villain.
"Ah, you have caught me, senorita! I am not Camilo, I am-"
He straightened his back and threw his arms to the sky, his body shifting and morphing dramatically into a familiar looking middle aged man, holding his arms out in a large wave.
"Jose! The local carpenter!"
You burst out laughing at that, knowing the many times you had injured Jose while helping him move furniture around Encanto. Camilo knew how embarrassing it was whenever you did that, but never failed to tease you for it regardless.
"Camilo! You're so mean!" you laughed, walking up to him and wrapping an arm around him as he shifted back into himself. "i wouldn't be surprised if he was out to get me at this point, though. Did you see his nose after that bookshelf fell on him?"
Camilo winced, the image of Jose's swollen, broken nose filling his mind as he remembered the awful incident that had happened only earlier that week.
"ugh, yeah... it took quite a few arepas for that to get better."
You cringed, laughing awkwardly as you rested your head on his shoulders.
"I'm seriously impressed that you packed so much just for a hike."
A smug grin came across the curly-haired boy's features as he gave a nonchalant shrug.
"Oh, you know my mama! She made me pack most of the snacks and water, just in case."
You chuckled, already picturing Pepa dragging Camilo back to the house to make sure he packed everything she deemed necessary. She was such a caring and doting mother, and you were lucky that she not only looked after Camilo, but you as well.
"I think its sweet how much she cares about you."
"Between you and me, she seemed more worried about you."
He transformed quickly into a shorter version of his mother (just so you could keep your head on his shoulder).
"If you let anything happen to my future daughter-in-law, Camilo, the Encanto will be flooded for weeks!"
You flushed hearing the words "future daughter-in-law," smiling softly and avoiding Camilo's eyes.
"Did... did she really call me that?"
Camilo gave you a soft look and slowly transformed back into himself, giving you a small "mhm," and squeezing your waist.
"She's done it many times before, ever since you came over for dinner a while back."
You grinned, looking back up at him.
"It makes me really happy to know that."
He gives you a small kiss on your temple, slowly slipping out of your grip.
"I'm glad, mi vida," he says softly, taking your hand and showing you the bottom of one of the many mountains surrounding the Encanto. he slung the bag on his shoulders to his back and lead you forward to the side of the mountain, letting go of your hand to hook his on one of the many vines growing up it. He glanced back at you and smiled.
And so you did, allowing Camilo to lead you up the short climb to this hiding spot he had been waiting to show you, eventually pulling you up to a small part of the mountain that jutted out. When you finally got a chance to look around, you realized just how beautiful the spot was, with smooth ground below your feet and captivating trees and plants growing all around and above you. You smiled brightly at Camilo, who was taking the blanket out of his bag and laying it on the ground. He gestured to it gentlemanly, waiting for you to take your place and lie down.
You chuckled, taking your time to lie down and take in the view above you. The trees framed a round picture of the clear blue sky, in which you could see toucans and hummingbirds flying from tree to tree and flower to flower. it was truly a sight to behold and you were still surprised Camilo had even managed to find it.
Soon, Camilo had taken his place beside you, taking your hand in his yet again and giving it a gentle squeeze. You turned to him and gave him your most sincere smile.
"This place is amazing, Camilo."
He chuckled, his brown eyes staring deep into yours.
"I'm glad you like it so much, mi amor."
He looked down at your hand intertwined with his, and he slowly brought them up to his face, placing a gentle kiss on the back of your palm. You giggled again, a blush creeping up your face. You slipped out of his hand to hold the side of his face, taking a minute to just admire the boy in front of you. His wonderfully curly hair and adorable nose, and those eyes you could get lost in for hours. The freckles that dusted the bridge of his nose that you often counted when the two of you were alone, and the soft lips that could render you defenseless with a kiss.
As you brushed your thumb across his cheek, you shyly asked a small question.
"Can I kiss you?"
Camilo's smile faltered a bit as he became flustered at the question, a pink hue crossing across his freckles. However, his look of shock was quickly replaced with a dopey grin.
"Sure," he whispered excitedly, and with a swift movement, your lips were on his. The kiss was sweet and gentle, full of the love and admiration that you had for this boy. You felt his arms snake around your waist, pulling you in a warm embrace as he kissed you back. You could practically feel the smile on his face as he kissed you, and when you pulled away, you could've sworn his smile was glowing.
Camilo slowly opened his eyes again, a lovestruck look gleaming in his eye as he tucked a stray piece of hair behind your ear. you leaned into his touch, giving him an equally romantic look back.
It was amazing how much love this boy could have for you.
He felt his heart beat fast as you opened your mouth to ask him, "can I kiss you again?" and he laughed.
"Mi corazon, do you even have to ask?"
You giggled and rushed to meet his lips again, rolling over so that you were on top of him, placing kiss after kiss all over his lips and face. You dotted over every freckle, and Camilo smiled as you leaned back down to kiss his lips, a loud laugh emitting from his chest.
"Amor, it tickles!'
You gave him one last peck on the lips before leaning above him, looking down at the dopey grin spread across his face.
"Sorry! You're just so kissable, Camilo Madrigal!"
He gave you a skeptical look, combing his hand through your hair.
You sighed dramatically, feigning a distraught look on your face.
"Oh yes! It's just so hard to simply not kiss you," you kissed the tip of his nose, "every time we're together."
"Oh, trust me," he said, gently pressing yet another kiss to your lips. "I know exactly how you feel."
The Cafe Part One: Imagine having a strained relationship with Camilo due to the fact everyone assumes to two of you will one day end up together. You both hate this and decide to be enemies forever but that doesn’t stop you being attracted to one another.
Part Two Here
Part Three Here
Part Four Here
As one of the strongest and oldest families yet to marry into the Madrigal bloodline you knew all eyes were on your family or more accurately you and you hated it. You were the only child in your family and of course you were born just 6 months before the eldest Madrigal boy, Camilo. Everyone pretty much decided then and there that two of you would be a couple and your future was laid out for you. You didn’t agree and that wouldn’t be your future if you had anything to do with it but that’s getting ahead of the story.
You and Camilo actually used to be friends when you were younger. There weren't many kids in town so as he was the same age as you, you played together often. You used to go to his house and eat the wonderful food his aunt could make. You loved his home and how big his family was, being an only child you dreamt of a family as huge as this and you truly felt welcome at Camilo's home...then his Abuela made a comment that ruined it all.
You and Camilo were barely seven, he was still mastering his gift but one of his favourite things to do was to transform into you. This always annoyed you because Camilo would mimic you and that meant war for a seven-year-old. So you’d end up fighting and one day Camilo’s Abuela walked in to find you punching Camilo (who looked like you) while he tried to get away. She quickly separated the two of you before telling you good children didn’t fight like that. You and Camilo glared at one another before the offer of a cookie made you both thaw. You followed Abuela to the kitchen and were happily eating courtesy of Julieta when Grandma Abuela smiled watching you two. “It’s so nice to see the two of them and know I don’t have to worry about Camilo’s future partner”. “Future partner, mama they're just children!" Camilo’s mother Pepa commented but Camilo’s Abuela shrugged "so? Some things are very easy to see and these two are pre-destined to be together. Mark my words Camilo will be proposing before he’s 20". You’d finished your cookie and were staring at the adults confused. Had Bruno had another vision? What did they mean about you and Camilo being partners? "Come on y/n!" Camilo cried pulling your arm and he tugged you out of the kitchen. He snapped you back into reality and you followed him in a daze. When you reached his room you frowned "Camilo what did your grandmother mean back then?". Camilo looked down "ow it’s nothing...just something she likes to talk about". "Tell me, I want to know" you insisted and he sighed "my grandmother likes you and your family so she hopes in the future we'll...you know". You paused "what?". "Get married like grown-ups do!" Camilo cried blushing but your response was quite different. You weren’t embarrassed you were a mixture of furious and confused. "What!" you cried "why?". "Because she likes you and our families get on" Camilo explained "she says it’ll be a good match and she’ll arrange it when we're older". "But that's so gross!" you cried and Camilo didn’t say anything. You noticed his silence and paused "Camilo? Why aren’t you angry?". "Because I...if I have to marry a girl why couldn’t it be you? We play together and you have good toys and can think of really fun games". "So you’d like it?' you asked scandalised and Camilo shrugged blushing lightly. "I don’t think I'd hate it" he admitted and you were not happy. You loved Camilo, he was your best friend but that didn’t mean you wanted to marry him, you’d heard rumours that involved kissing and that was definitely too disgusting for a seven-year-old. Not to mention you didn’t like how nobody had asked you. Your mother had told you that women didn’t use to have rights and how they were just given to men without their own preference even being considered. This reminded you of that and you hated it. Even if Camilo liked it you didn’t and you hated how everyone seemed to be in on this except you. So you had some pretty good reasons to be against this however you were just seven and lacked the maturity to express yourself effectively. In response to all this you pushed Camilo away from you and took your anger out on him. "I don’t have a crush on you! That’s gross" you cried. Camilo immediately got defensive and shoved you back “I never said I had a crush on you! I think you’re the grossest person ever”. You were pretty insulted so you leapt at Camilo fighting for real this time and he shapeshifted into a bigger kid pushing you over easily. You fell down hard and were upset physically and emotionally, not wanting him to see you cry you cried “I hate you and never want to see you again” before you ran home.
Even since then you’d stopped being friends and decided you hated one another. Camilo did miss you but he’d never forget the disgusted way you looked at him and that stopped him ever trying to approach you. You were definitely not eager to approach him either, still slightly traumatised over what you’d heard and so the distance between you grew and grew and turned uglier and uglier over the years until it reached the stage it was at currently.
You and Camilo couldn’t be in the same room without a fight breaking out. You went to school together so this happened often and you both made it your mission to ruin the other’s life. With your friends and even each other’s families you were kind, sweet people. Around one another however you became these toxic mean spirited people who just wanted to bring the other down and this continued well into your teen years.
Every summer the Madrigals would have a party celebrating the harvest and the end of school for the summer. Pretty much everyone would go but you always sat it out, not a fan of anything that brought you near Camilo. However this year your parents said that wasn’t an option. Now you’d turned 16 they said you had to start attending adult events and could skive off as a child would. So you dragged your feet grumbling about how unfair this was all the way to the Madrigal house. Or course Camilo was on the door greeting guests. You rolled your eyes, he was so extroverted, his need for attention and to be liked sickened you. As you got closer he spotted you quickly and his smile momentarily faltered before your parents stepped forwards. "Mrs and Mr L/n how wonderful to see you" he smiled at them both and your parent smiled back. No matter how many stories about him you’d told they still liked him and thought he was a good boy. No matter the problems between Camilo and yourself, neither of you could bring yourself to be mean to the other’s family. It was an unspoken rule. "Thanks for having us Camilo, look how big you've gotten! I remember when you used to look tiny on our sofa and now you're taller than me! You're almost a man" your mother cried. You snorted and everyone looked at you. "Sure if were using the term very loosely" you muttered walking past him into the house. You heard your parents mutter something to Camilo before rushing after you "you do not disrespect someone who's opened their home to you" your father scolded you. "I didn’t even want to come to his home!" you cried "you made me come here, I never promised to be polite to Camilo". Your parents didn’t bother arguing with you, they knew Camilo was a topic you couldn’t be persuaded on.
You were passing the kitchen when you saw Pepa carrying numerous trays of food, or well she was trying too. They kept tilting and one was bound to fall, a cloud appeared over Pepa’s head telling you she was losing her patience. You saw one tray tip and rushed forwards. You caught it just in time and took a few of the others off Pepa making the cloud disappear immediately. "Aww thank you y/n you're so sweet" Camilo’s mom beamed, recognising you instantly. "You're all grown up now, you're such a beautiful young woman" Pepa complimented you. You blushed "ow I'm not too sure about that". "You are, I’m sure your parents are so proud of you" she smiled "it's such a shame you and Camilo don’t get on anymore...we miss you around here". You suddenly felt guilty and looked down "yeah it's a shame, I guess we just grew apart". Pepa shot you a look like she knew it was more than a small growing apart. As if summoned the devil himself appeared. "Mami Antonio...ow" Camilo said walking around the corner to find you and his mother together. "Camilo I was just chatting with y/n, she's all grown up just like you. I can’t believe you’re both finishing school this year, are you excited?". You nodded "yep I’m looking forward to University". "Ow where are you going?" Pepa asked and Camilo looked down "hopefully somewhere outside of Colombia altogether" and you glared at him. You told Pepa the school you were hoping to go to and Camilo’s stomach drooped. "Ow that’s where Camilo is thinking of going!" Pepa cried. "Yeah not so much anymore" he smiled sweetly and you smiled back "don’t worry based on your grades I’m sure they’ll make that decision for you". Pepa sighed looking at Camilo “y/n can you give me a moment with my son, I’ve got to have a talk with him” she said her expression grave. You nodded “of course I’ll go put these trays on the table, it was nice seeing you Mrs.Madrigal” and you disappeared pleased you’d gotten Camilo into trouble.
Once you’d put the trays down you started scoping out a good place to enjoy the party. The one thing you did love about Madrigal events was the music. The whole town would come together and everyone would play instruments and it was so much fun. You had been trying to pout and be angry but found yourself bobbing along to the music and enjoying the performances. One by one people sang and you were really enjoying the night...but your smile vanished when Camilo appeared. You tensed, knowing what was coming and sure enough Camilo opened his mouth and you were hooked. His singing was the most beautiful thing you’d ever heard. It made you so mad to admit but nobody could compete with Camilo in terms of signing. His voice was deep and could be rough but also so smooth and warm. You hated it but Camilo’s singing was really attractive and you felt the pull every time he performed. His voice washed over you and you felt that familiar attraction again. It wasn’t enough he was good looking, charming, a good dancer and had literal powers he had to have a godly voice too? You sighed annoyed at how much you were enjoying Camilo’s performance when your cousin waved to you. She begged you to dance with her and so you agreed. Camilo’s song had finished now so you’d surely be able to just enjoy yourself now.
Camilo was getting some water after singing when he spotted you. There were tons of people on the floor dancing but of course his eyes went straight to you as they always did. You spun around in your green dress and were the most beautiful dancer on the floor. The graceful but skilled way you glided around the floor made several people stop and stare but it was the look on your face that Camilo stated at. You didn’t smile often and especially not around him so seeing the pure joy in your face...the way it lit up your features made him pause. You just looked so happy it was beautiful. You didn’t have a care in the world and you looked perfect.
"Who are you looking at like that?' a voice asked and Camilo jumped as Isabela appeared. He tried to move away but she was already beside him and followed his gaze to you. "Ahhh your old bestie, any reason why you're checking her out?". "I was not!" Camilo cried and Isabela smirked "sure because you totally weren’t gaping at her. I can’t blame you, she's the hottest girl in your year by far...no wonder she didn’t want to marry you". "Shut up Isabela!" he cried and a bit too loudly as everyone nearby looked over. "Camilo why don’t you go check on the gardens!" his father called which was code for go outside and stop making a scene. Camilo rolled his eyes but did as he was told.
Mirabel has seen the whole thing and followed him. “You okay?" she asked catching up to him and Camilo nodded "I'm fine". "I heard what Isabela said and just ignore her. We all know that wasn’t the reason the two of you fell out, I mean come on you were like 7". "But we kinda did" Camilo groaned "she stopped being friends with me because the idea of what might happen in some distant future disgusted her so much. She doesn’t just dislike me she loathes me and I pretend it doesn’t bother me but I don’t know...it doesn’t feel great". Mirabel frowned "have you ever considered that this all happened a while ago?". Camilo paused "so?". "Well how do you know all that's true anymore? Seven-year-olds don’t communicate well and they tend to be emotional. Have you ever spoken to y/n to work out what was the reason?". "I know the reason Mirabel and it's me. The fact is she hates me” but he froze as you appeared outside ranting to your mother.
“I can’t even dance in peace” you cried and your mother shushed you pulling you away from the doors. You were downstairs and had no idea Mirabel and Camilo could see and hear you, they were hidden by the many many plants courtesy of Isabela. Camilo was about to step away when he heard his name. "Years! Years Camilo and I haven’t been friends and still people ask me if we’re getting married! Nobody asks Camilo that, just me. It’s so sexist it drives me crazy! How can people just not understand I don’t want to be a man's prize, my greatest ambition in life isn’t to be a wife. I've done so much to try and alter that perspective. I study hard so I can get into a good school, I work out to make myself strong, I even pick fights with Camilo every chance I get to make him hate me and still they suggest him as a husband for me! I hate it" you said bursting into tears and your mother hugged you.
Mirabel turned back to Camilo "still think there’s nothing more to it?" she whispered. Camilo stared watching you crumble. You were always so tough and harsh it was odd to see you so human...he’d almost forgotten you were just a normal person like him not a mortal enemy. His perspective suddenly shifted and he felt bad. He had no idea things had been so bad for you or that what his Abuela had insinuated was still affecting you
The next day
Camilo woke up late the next day after staying up so late the night before and he loved it. School was well and truly out and he sauntered downstairs feeling ready for his lazy summer. He hid from his family to avoid having to do any chores and only entered the kitchen when he was sure it was empty. He strode in before the door closed behind it, it was an ambush and his tia Julieta was waiting for him. "Camilo I know why you're here, you can horde food later but for now hold this". She placed several trays in his arms and he frowned "what is all this?". "I was hired to make some food for the cafe". "Y/n's?" he asked. Your family owned the most popular cafe in town and Camilo’s tia had worked there when she was younger. Tia Julieta nodded "yes for y/n’s cafe and you're going to help me take them there". "What! No i’m not" he cried and Julieta shot him a look. "I know you think the world will end If you and y/n are forced to see one another but it won’t. You'll be just fine so let's go". "Tia Julieta" Camilo complained and she shot him a look "do you want me to tell your mother you won't walk 10 minutes to help me because I know just how scary she can be". "No, no don't tell my mother!" he cried remembering the telling off he got less than 24 hours ago from his mother. He did not want that experience so soon again so Camilo agreed "I'll go but not as me". Julieta went to ask what he meant when Camilo transformed into Luisa. "Okay let's go" he said as if this was a normal thing to do. Julieta shook her head "is that really necessary?". "Trust me this will make everything a lot smoother" he replied and the two set off into town. Even as Luisa Camilo felt nervous and with every step he got closer and closer to you until finally...they arrived.
For cafe shenanigans get ready for part 2! I’m thinking this will be a 3 part series but i’ll see how it goes. I never intended to make this a series but I have a habit of writing a lot and it’s way too much for one person to be expected to read in one installment.
So hopefully you’ll come along for the 3 part Camilo series! I really liked writing this side of Camilo because we’ve seen he can be really sweet but also a bit sarcastic and blunt so the man has range!!

summary: camilo sees you as the most perfect girl ever, and will do anything to make you see it.
warnings: reader has low self-confidence regarding her physical appearance.

a/n: just a lot of fluff & comfort coming from Camilo, slightly rushed and a very short drabble. enjoy :)
If anyone were to ask Camilo what he disliked about you, he wouldn’t be able to find a real reason no matter how hard he tried. Except for one little thing; he hated how hard you were on yourself. He adored everything about you and made it clear, and despite your appreciation towards his endless compliments, he knew that you would still have your doubts, no matter how much he expressed his fondness towards you.
“Mi vida, don’t be so hard on yourself,” Camilo said, looking at you with genuine adorn in his eyes.
“Milo, I love you, but I really don’t understand what you see in me that makes me so special,” you sighed, looking away from your boyfriend.
He gently cupped your face and turned his hand to make you look at him. You watched as his eyes looked at every feature on your face, filling with awe as he admired your appearance.
“Amor, no matter how many times I’ve seen your face, I’ll still always think you have the most perfect complexion,” he cooed, his finger brushing your lips, “Your eyes, Y/N, they are the most beautiful in this entire country, and your lips, I could kiss them all day.” You let out a slight smile.
“Cariño, you’re so sweet, but so cheesy,” you teased. He moved his arms to your waist, wrapping around you, never failing to break eye contact.
“As long as you’re happy mi vida. Your hair is so soft, you know?” He planted a kiss on your forehead, “And your face is so kissable…”
“Ay, Camilo…” You wrapped your arms around his neck.
“…The way you say my name, even, makes me happy,” he said, before kissing you softly, only to go back to admiring your features.
You sighed as you looked into Camilo’s eyes, God, he really is magical. With every second you spent with him and thinking about him, you only fell more and more in love with him, and the same went for how he felt about you.
“I really wish I could see myself the way you saw me, Camilo.”
“I do too, mi vida,” he said. Suddenly, he smiled, and broke off from you. “Wait a second, I can do that!”
You blinked, and as soon as you opened your eyes, it’s as if you were looking into a mirror.
He had shapeshifted into you.
Camilo had the biggest grin on… your face. As confused as ever, you looked at the picture-perfect clone of yourself.
“Oh Camilo, you’re such a dork,” you laughed.
“No, no, amor, look at me!” he spun around in your skirt, “Look at how beautiful you really are.”
You looked at him, dumbfounded. “Camilo, we look the exact same, I don’t understand.”
“Exactly, Y/N,” he said, “We’re seeing the same girl. No matter how you think you look, no matter how much you dislike anything about you, everything about you is perfect to me. Whatever you don’t like about yourself, I love because it makes you… well, you.” He shifted back into himself, and wrapped his arms around your waist again.
“Mi vida, for as long as you love me, I will never let you leave my arms without understanding what you mean to me.”
Carlos Madrigal always had a plan. That’s what he thought. That’s what everyone thought. But nothing could’ve prepared him when you came along.
pairing: carlos madrigal x gn! reader
Carlos Madrigal was never good with love. Sure he had more than enough experience with familial and platonic love but with romantic love? Pssh. Romance wasn’t in the books. It wasn’t in his devious plans to get caught up in a whirlwind romance. It wasn’t in the plans, he keeps telling himself.
Contrary to what people may believe, he was a meticulous person, every prank or trick that he would play would be well-thought of. He never liked being spontaneous. He never liked surprises.
He had a plan and he stuck with it.
But Carlos Madrigal didn’t have a plan for when you walked into his life.
You were a breath of fresh air in the stuffy little town of Encanto, having moved in from one of the villages that resided somewhat near the mountains. The concept of newcomers wasn’t all that uncommon to the town after the mountain was split into two. Encanto would show its’ way to those who needed it the most after all.
You caught him with a simple smile and your little ‘hola’.
Most of the citizens of Encanto as well as Carlos had thought that you would quickly distance yourself from him upon learning his reputation. What he didn’t expect was you being stuck to his side and being, dare he say it, friends. He was perplexed at first. People would often befriend his older twin rather than him but you had stayed. And though he wouldn’t say it out loud, he was grateful. Though he quickly noticed how much the two of you differed.
You were wide-eyed, bubbly, with a spring in your steps and a smile always adorning your stupidly, annoyingly, pretty—
Carlos ran his fingers through his hair, tugging on his locks in frustration as he caught himself, swiftly rubbing his eyes with his hands as he cursed.
‘Miercoles. Miercoles. What’s wrong with you, tonto?’ He asked himself. Carlos Madrigal was no simp. Not like his brother. He sneered at the thought of his older brother falling over himself for his significant other. He wasn’t like that. He wasn’t going to be like that.
So why did his knees always feel so weak when you flash him your sweet smile?
Ugh. Gross. He grumbled to himself as he shook his head, trying to convince himself that he didn’t like you that way. You weren’t part of the plan he had for himself which was just living out the rest of his life in peace.
Another sigh left his lips as he leaned against one of the fruit stalls that surrounded the buzzing town square. As always it was filled with people, happy smiles, and vibrant colors that made his eyes hurt. Carlos glanced to the side once he saw the shop owner had their back turned, shifting to one of the children in town and immediately snatching one of the mangoes from the crate and rushing off.
"Hah. Sucker." He snickered.
Carlos ducked into an empty alleyway, quickly shifting back to himself and smirking as he held a mango, sticking one of his hands in his pocket to rummage for his handy pocket knife.
Upon grabbing it, he fished it from his pocket, flicking it open as he started to skin the fruit. He sliced it apart effortlessly, taking a bite of the sweet yellow treat.
Today’s plan was supposed to be just to avoid doing any work. Not like he didn’t do that every day before, he just liked lazing about. He had more time to himself, even more so after Casita had been rebuilt once more. He liked doing nothing but what he liked to do. And today he wanted to do nothing!
A no bones day if you will. Nothing to worry about, nothing to think about. Just him and his fruit. Nothing else mattered.
Until he heard a laugh. Not just any laugh. Your laugh.
His (Name’s) laugh.
Now, normally Carlos would ignore this. He was going to before he heard the familiar and unmistakable laugh of his twin. He powerwalked out of the alley to the source of the noise.
And there you were, chatting with Camilo about something he could care less about. You were smiling so brightly and so was his brother. He didn’t know why he felt so annoyed seeing the two of you together.
But why did he care? Psh. He could care less about you and his brother. Although he knew deep down Camilo wouldn’t make a move on you, that didn’t quell the festering envy in the depths of his stomach as he saw Camilo smile at you, patting your back as you choked on an arepa the two of you had been eating while you conversed.
He didn’t like the way Camilo’s touch lingered. Maybe he was overthinking it. Maybe he was just paranoid. He bit onto his lower lip hard as he couldn’t take anymore.
Carlos marched up to the two of you, a tight-lipped smile on his face as he draped an arm around your shoulder.
“Ah, hermano, there you are. I see you’re with mi amorcito.” He glanced down, catching the way your eyes had widened at the pet name. God, you looked adorable.
“If I had known better you two were excluding me.” He puffed his cheeks into a mock pout before smiling as he saw the arepa in your hands. “Great timing! I was starving.”
Carlos leaned down, parting his lips and taking a bite of the arepa in your hand, all the while gently holding your wrist so you didn’t pull the pastry away from him.
“Gracias, amorcito.” The troublemaker says, licking his lips. He made sure to emphasize the pet names, narrowing his eyes at his brother who had raised his hands up in mock surrender as if saying that he wanted no trouble.
Carlos rested his head on the top of yours, smiling to himself as he could feel your warmth skyrocket from being flustered by his sudden actions. He still wouldn’t say anything about having feelings for you.
That wasn’t in his plans after all.
You ruined so many of his carefully thought of plans. But deep down he didn’t think he minded.

you grew up in a large family and, like madrigals, you all lived in the same house
so there was always at least one little child to take care of from time to time
and then you were usually called, because you loved children and they loved you
one day your cousin esperanza brought her friend, antonio, for your youger brother's birthday. and you liked that boy immediately. he was the loveliest seven-year-old you've ever met
antonio began to visit you very often, bringing one of his pets each time. and you somehow managed to remember all their names
❛you know, my tío bruno has a few rats. they’re actors in his telenovelas❜ ❛telenovelas?❜ ❛yeah, my siter dolores says the plot of these is actually really good.❜
antonio has never lied to you before, so you didn't think he was making it up. besides, knowing how extraordinary the the madrigal family is, uncle who arranged the rat telenovelas was not the strangest member of the family
one day he invited you to casita, because he wanted to show you his room. you couldn't refuse him
you were a bit surprised when the door opened by itself, inviting you in
❛hola, y/n!❜ you heard his cheerful voice, and saw him running down the stairs towards you, waving his hand. he grabbed your sleeve, wanting to lead you to him
❛won’t you introduce me to your beatiful friend, hermano?❜
you turned around. behind you stood a boy a little taller than you. he looked about the same age as you - seventeen. there was a mischievous gleam in his eyes, soft curls fell around his face and a smile lurked on his lips. antonio told you about his family members before, and you were sure you correctly identified the teenager who was still staring at you
❛you name is camilo, right?❜
❛little miss detective, huh? yes, that's right. camilo madrigal, the one and only❜
you waved him smiling and then apologized, feeling that his little brother was pulling your hand
❛why don’t you tell me your name?❜ he shouted after you as you walked to the antonio's room
❛well, i think you’ve heard it before!❜ you answered
❛nothing hides from you, right?❜
camilo has been in love with you ever since. more and more often he made excuses to meet you. he even started visiting you with his brother!
however, it only took him a month to invite you on a date
their whole family likes you a lot
casita has become your second home
you made friends with dolores and mirabel. but you don't neglect your acquaintance with antonio of course!
your boyfriend loves helping you babysit your siblings and cousins
sometimes he imagines you two with your own children in the future
if anyone asked, i didn't tell you, but pepa is already planning your wedding
your favorite type of date is walking in the woods around encanto. you always hold hands while telling each other about your day. sometimes you just keep silent
❛you know, i love you so much❜ ❛i love you more, hermosa❜
years later, when you actually have you own children, their favorite tío is antonio

summary: Pepa and Felix sit down and look back at different times in your’s and Camilo’s relationship. They realize just how similar you guys are to them.
They're Like Us
(gif not mine)
Pepa and Felix loved Camilo and you. They absolutely adored your guy's relationship. Even before you were a couple, they knew that you two would end up being together. They sat at a table now, watching you two.
"Do you remember when they first met?" Felix asked.
"Yes, of course. It feels like it was just yesterday." Pepa nodded with a smile.
It was his gift ceremony, during the party. You were both 5 years old.
People were everywhere, lots of people chatting, music playing. You stood with Mirabel, talking, dancing, laughing.
"Mira, what do you think your gift will be?" You asked her, swaying around a little bit to the music.
"I don't know. I'm so excited for mine though!" She told you excitably.
Camilo saw you from where he stood in his room. He had see you around the casita before, he just never came around to say hi. He thought you were so fun and kind looking, and also really pretty. He started walking up to you and Mira, what was a better time than now to introduce himself to you.
"Hi Mira! Hi y/n!"
You turned to face him with childish grin.
"Hi Camilo." You said.
Mirabel waved at him with a smile.
And from there, you guys became best friends almost instantly. You two kept each other in balance.
"They were so precious." Pepa reminisced, a small rainbow appearing above her head.
Felix nodded, agreeing with his wife as he took a sip of his drink.
"Oh, and remember the time he asked her out?" Pepa piped, clapping her hands in excitement.
"Cami was so nervous." Felix laughed.
It was your 13th birthday. The weather was perfect, thanks to Pepa's excitement due to her son’s plan to ask you out. Camilo's family loved you like their own, so much so that they insisted to throw you a birthday party at the casita. Camilo was a mess before your arrival, he had to make sure every single thing was perfect. The flowers had to be your favorite kind of flower, the decor had to be your favorite colors, the music had to be the best. The family happily obliged in making everything perfect. So, Camilo got to relax for a moment, until it was time for the party, which meant it was time to ask you out. He tried to keep himself calm so he wouldn’t start randomly shifting, but it didn’t work for long. About 45 minutes into the party, he started shifting out of nerves.
“Cami, what’s wrong?” You asked him, a concerned look on your face.
He looked at you with wide eyes.
“Uh, no, nothing’s wrong.” Camilo stuttered, fidgeting with his hands.
You tilted your head to the side.
“You’re lying. I know something is wrong, you’re shifting out of nerves.” You told him.
He let out a small sigh, grabbing your hand and leading you to a less crowded part of the casita.
“Okay so y/n, I love you, more than a friend. I’ve felt this way for a while now.” Camilo admitted to you.
You smiled at him, holding both of his hands.
“I love you too.” You confessed.
Camilo let out a sigh of relief as he pulled you in a for a quick hug.
“That’s what had you all worked up?” You giggled.
Camilo nodded as he swayed you around to the music.
“Well...” He said, spinning you around.
“You’re my best friend, my beautiful best friend. The girl who is always there for me. The girl I love. I don’t think I would have been able to handle rejection from you.” Camilo told you, pulling you back towards him.
“You’re so cheesy.” You laughed, kissing him on the cheek.
A tint of red appeared on his cheeks. “I mean it.” He smiled.
“Aww Cami! You did it!” Pepa came from behind the stairs, a rainbow over her head, a big smile on her face, and her arms held open.
“Mami!” Camilo groaned with embarrassment, covering his face with his hands.
“He did it. That’s my boy!” Felix happily came out from behind the stairs.
“I heard the whole thing from the nursery!” Dolores exclaimed coming down the stairs, holding Antonio.
Camilo groaned louder as Pepa and Dolores came to hug you.
“He was so mad at us for eavesdropping.” Felix smiled.
Pepa thought for a moment.
“You know, they’re like us.” Pepa pointed out.
“Oh yeah?” Felix questioned.
“Yes, remember when he first noticed their height difference? Just like us.”
Felix nodded with a grin. “Oh, how could I forget that.”
It was a summer afternoon. You and Camilo were hanging out with MIrabel, just chatting as you walked around the town. Until Mira noticed something.
“Camilo, is y/n taller than you?” She asked, stopping in her tracks.
He looked at Mira with a confused look, and then back to you.
“Wait...” He said, trying to process it.
You used your hand to check.
“I am taller than you!” You exclaimed, a bit shocked.
“Oh, c’mon.” He groaned.
“She is, by like an inch and a half!” Mira giggled.
“We’re like your mami and papa, love!” You observed happily.
He smiled at that, he always dreamed of having a relationship like his parents. Maybe just not the height difference though.
“Oh my goodness, yes! C’mon we need to go show them.” Mira told you.
You nodded and started making your way to the casita. When you got in you all saw her at the top of the stairs.
“Tía Pepa look! Camilo and y/n have a height difference just like you and tío Felix!” Mirabel told her excitedly. Pepa came down the stairs to look for herself.
She stopped in front of you two.
“It’s true! Camilo, you are like your papi! Felix, come look!” She shouted.
Felix came from the kitchen.
“They’re so cute.” She said as she placed her hands over her chest.
“Oh c’mon, I’m not that much shorter!” Camilo claimed.
Pepa glanced at him before going in to hug you both.
“I guess you’re just short, mi vida.” You teased, kissing him on the cheek.
He only rolled his eyes in response
“They calm each other down too. Just like how I calm you down.” Felix mentioned.
Pepa nodded with a soft smile.
Though Camilo’s gift was, well, a gift, it wasn’t always good. His gift often brought him problems. He would often feel dysphoric, or didn’t feel as if he knew himself very well or who he was. When Camilo had these episodes, he could be in his room for days. No one could calm him down either, he didn’t want any of his family to see him like that, even his mami. Pepa sit outside his doors sometimes when this happened, begging him to let her come in, though he never did. Camilo didn’t want to upset her with his own issues. You were the only person he would let in. After Pepa would attempt to get in, her only other option was to get you. So, she would go find you, and tell you what was wrong, and of course you drop everything you were doing and come with her. She would stop you at his door, and back up a little with her hands held together, nodding for you to go on. You knocked on the door lightly.
“Camilo, it’s me. Can you open the door please?” You shouted.
There was a pause for a moment before the door cracked open, you sent Pepa a soft smile before going in.
Camilo was sat by the door, knees tucked up to his chest. You took a seat on the floor next to him, laying your head on his shoulder. You decided that letting him speak first would be the best move.
“What do you see when you look at me.” He sniffled.
You lifted your head to look at him.
“I see my boyfriend, my best friend, my favorite person in the world. With your curly hair that I like to play with, your freckles that I like to kiss, your nose that I like to boop, and your mouth that I love to see smile, that smile that I can’t stand to not see.” You explained to him.
He muttered a thank you as he hugged you.
“I love you, mi amor.” He told you with a small smile.
You placed a kiss on his forehead. “I love you too. Now c’mon, lunch is ready.”
Camilo grabbed your hand as you both stood up and walked out of his room. A look of relief came over Pepa as she saw the two of you. The three of you walked down to lunch together.
“They’re perfect for each other.” Felix smiled.
“They make each other so happy. I love to watch them be so in love with each other.” Pepa hummed contently.
The two of them watched you guys now. You guys were laying against a tree, Camilo holding you in his arms. Both of you asleep.
“I guess we should go wake them up for dinner?” Felix suggested
Flirt | Camilo Madrigal
Pairings: Camilo x fem!reader
Warnings: cheesy flirting and pickup lines
It was the day of Antonio's gift ceremony.
While everyone was on edge, hoping it would be nothing like last time's, Camilo couldn't stop staring at a girl in the crowd.
Any other day, Camilo would have had his sole attention on his little brother for his big day. But when he saw that girl? He just couldn't take his eyes or mind off of her.
Her beautiful (e/c) eyes shone like stars amongst the crowd, and he couldn't stop imagining himself playing with her (h/c) hair.
Well apparently, he had been staring at her too long as they eventually made eye contact with each other.
The girl stared at Camilo, confused as to why he had been staring, while Camilo stood as if he were a deer in the headlights of love.
She cocked her head in confusion, almost giving up in getting an answer, when Camilo gave a small wave to her.
Her eyes darted around, making sure he couldn't be waving to anyone else, before she waved back, her confused demeanor not fading in the slightest bit.
As expected, Antonio opened his door, summoned an army of animals and invited them into his now super cool room, and all of the guests just followed him inside his room. As you do at parties.
But during all the festivities, Camilo was still focused on that girl he saw.
He walked through the crowd of people, trying not to seem too lost and awkward, when he finally saw her. Her eyes still shining bright as they were before.
He quickly speed walked toward her, and tapped her on the shoulder to get her attention.
”Hey,” he greeted praying that he wouldn’t make it awkward.
“Oh, you’re that guy who kept staring at me,” she recalled, taking a sip of the drink in her hands.
"Oh, sorry, it’s just that you look just like my next girlfriend.”
The girl immediately choked, covering her mouth with her hands to stop herself coughing out any water.
Camilo on the other hand, was in full panic mode.
”Oh, god, I’m so sorry! I-I was tryna be funny, I- oh man, are you ok?”
She wiped some water away from her mouth as she laughed, “I-It’s ok, I’m ok!” She reassured, earning a sigh of relief from Camilo.
“A-are you sure?” Camilo asked, still worried about her.
”Yes, I’m fine! And by the way, that was a nice pick up line,”
”You think so?”
Y/N nodded, “You come up with that yourself?”
”Yup,” Camilo said, nodding proudly, making Y/N laugh.
They had known each other for less than five minutes and her laugh was the sweetest sound Camilo had ever heard.
”Got any more?”
Camilo smirked, unaware of the butterflies swarming Y/N’s stomach, “You have no idea how much free time I have on my hands.”
That entire night just consisted of Camilo trying out his cheesy pick up lines on the girl.
“I hope you know CPR, because you just took my breath away!”
“I don’t know why, but I just hate that.”
“Your eyes are like the ocean; I could swim in them all day.”
“Yeah, I do not think that you should be swimming in peoples eyes,”
“Do you happen to have a Band-Aid? ‘Cause I scraped my knees falling for you.”
Y/N shrugged, “I mean it’s kinda cute.”
“If you were a vegetable, you’d be a ‘cute-cumber.’”
”I’m gonna have to ask you to either leave or kill me.”
The two burst out laughing, earning many confused looks from other party-goers.
When Y/N calmed down, she wiped a tear of laughter from her cheek, "Well, if you're done with the pickup lines, my name's Y/N."
Camilo smiled at her, "Camilo."
Y/N and Camilo talked the night away, laughing together, talking about random shit, when another line popped into Camilo's mind.
”Hey, I’ve heard that kissing is the language of love. You reckon you could teach me?”
Y/N’s cheeks heated up instantly, “Did you just use another pick up line on me?”
Camilo smirked, sending butterflies in Y/N's stomach, "Yup."
Y/N smiled nervously, her cheeks burning, "And how do you know that I'm fluent in the language of love?"
Camilo shrugged, "I'll take my chances... if you'll let me?"
A giddy smile found it's way on Y/N's lips as she nodded, 'yes'.
Camilo gently placed a hand on Y/N's cheeks, slowly leaning in to place his lips onto hers.
"Wow," Camilo whispered, placing a hand on Y/N's cheeks as they pulled away, "You're a really good teacher."
Y/N's shoulders shook in laughter, "You've seriously just been flirting with me all night haven't you?"
Camilo shrugged, "How else was I meant to get a kiss?"
A/N: i have no idea how to flirt with anyone (and it shows), like my gf will be flirting with me (at least I think it's flirting) and I'll be like, 'who knew gay panicking could make me cry?'

Fall For You ✨
Camilo Madrigal x clumsy! ❤️ reader
You exhaled in contentment. The day was just beautiful. You put a hand over your forehead as you looked up at the sky, admiring it. Not cloudy or gloomy yet not too hot. It was perfect. Your steps were elegant as you walked beside Isa, she kept talking about how she'd been practicing to make structures out of tree bark when-
Woah... there he went again. Walking with an admirable posture as per usual. Confidently striding while keeping his sights straight ahead as he held a mango ice cream on his right hand. He looked so- "Y/N CAREFUL!" you heard Isa yell alarmed but it was too late. You were already on your way to kiss the floor. It seemed you'd tripped over a small pile of bricks. "Agh Luisa!" you complained inside your head.
"Owww!" An embarrassed whine escaped from your mouth as you lifted your head to rub your cheek before placing both hands on the ground weakly, trying to stand up. It stung. You definitely drew blood this time...
Watching where you were going got incredibly hard whenever Camilo passed by. It just seemed as if your surroundings became astoundingly boring and he was a glowing neon sign. You cursed at yourself mentally. This wasn't the first time this had happened.
As you turned your head to the spot he was walking by before your embarrassing fall, you only saw the mango ice cream lay in the floor. Abandoned and melting. Weird.... he must've dropped it then?
"Y/N! Are you ok?! Does it hurt?" You turned your head to the side to find a very worried Camilo. "Uhh I think I'm fine... You- dropped your ice cream," you answered sheepishly, not used to the attention. "Nevermind that," he waved his hand dismissively.
"Look at that huge scratch on your cheek! Let's go with my tía right now! She'll help!" He brushed his fingertips close to the wound. It burned again and your reflexes made you pull away--against your will--wincing. "Sorry! Sorry I- Come on," without saying another word he grabbed your hand and guided you to Casita.
Isabela followed close behind the both of you without saying anything. She was going to help you get up but she saw Camilo running to you and was curious to see how he would react to the situation. She wasn't an idiot. It was clear he had something to do with your recurring accidents.
Squinting her eyes, she watched the scene in front of her attentively. Camilo whispered to your ear "You're sure it doesn't hurt that bad?" and, fretting at his proximity, you quickly shook your head in a denying manner.
As soon as you took a step forward, your legs betrayed you, getting wobbly. Camilo noticed your obvious stumble. His eyebrows furrowed in concern and he reached for you before placing your arm over his shoulder, offering support in case there was any pain on your legs. He seemed so gentle and she'd never seen him display any care with anyone else. "Huhh," she said to herself and made mental note. She was definitely going to do something about it.
It was right after you made a bowl of baked sweet potatoes fall to the ground, while you took a bite out of a roasted corn on the cob her mom had given you, that she pinched the area in between her brows in second hand embarrassment. Why exactly did you drop them? Well, Camilo got close to your face--a bit too close actually--to ask if you felt better and admire your wound closing up.
Your eyes widened and you tried to get a hold of yourself before you face-planted again, already feeling your knees buckle. As you reached for the table, you miscalculated and hit the bowl instead. The sweet potatoes went flying before falling with several thuds.
Isabela thought this was the last straw. This row of misfortunes had been going on for far too long now and you hadn't even made a move yet. It was getting painful to watch you pine over her primo and get hurt. Literally hurt in fact.
What if next time you fell on her cacti or on her carnivorous sundews? That would be so much more disastrous and she couldn't let her good friend suffer any longer. Your demise wouldn't be on her. She'd do you a favor.
You just needed a little push. If Dolores was telling the truth last weekend, when she said she heard Camilo's heartbeat get faster as soon as your name was mentioned in conversation, then it was safe to say he liked you as well. Plus, his concern with you was another obvious sign.
This had to end today.
Right after she heard her tía Pepa call Camilo, he hesitatingly left your side and she took the opportunity to start talking. "I think the reason why you keep falling over and over starts with a C and ends with amilo," Isa sung tauntingly.
That statement took you by surprise. "What?," You scoffed and, trying to act convincing, made a fake confused expression. "No way! Tsk- that- I don't even know where you got the idea," you turned your attention towards the warm piece of corn on your hand. You couldn't look her in the eye. If you did, you would falter and she would definitely figure it out!
"I meaaan last month at the bakery, you dropped the last strawberry cupcake- you know...the one you said you were dying to try? As soon as Camilo walked in, it mysteriously fell from your hand AND the other day, you slipped on a puddle beside the fountain when Camilo sat down across from us on that bench," You opened your mouth to respond but she continued.
"OH and don't forget about the other day when you literally almost broke your ankle because you heard him hum that stupid love song you like so much since you said it reminded you of someone. Could that be h-" You cut her off before she could continue saying that out loud. Was she really confronting you about this?
"ISABELAA! Stop! What are you even- That makes no sense I mean-" You waved your hands in front of her. You were mortified. If it wasn't for your bad luck then maybe it wouldn't have been so painfully obvious.
"I'm just saying. It can't be a coincidence..." She said nonchalantly.
"I agree Y/N. I mean there's definitely a pattern going on here," Mirabel added as she walked towards you. A knowing smirk on her face as she calmly stirred a steaming cup of infused tea. She thought this was getting very interesting.
Yes, she loved you and you were close friends but she was on the same page with Isa. This pining issue needed to be resolved. For your sake. "Could my primo be the cause of your clumsiness?" She raised her eyebrows in a playful manner.
"What do you like about him? Oooh do you think he's cute?" Isa teased smiling widely.
"What? No!" You blurted. This couldn't be happening. It's so embarrassing- WHAT IF THEY TOLD HIM? "No! Keep your cool," You thought to yourself and tried to put on a calm face. "Ok just- deep breaths."
"So you don't?" She asked whilst raising her brows as she waited for confirmation. You were speechless and she tilted her head, pretending to be confused.
"Well I do but-" You blurted before thinking but realized you couldn't find more excuses. After all, they were right. It was inevitable for them to find out. They were your friends and you couldn't realistically deny it--in a way they'd believe you--at this point. You'd basically already confessed. "Yes," you sighed.
The sound of glass shattering turned your attention elsewhere. You heard Camilo choke on his drink and start coughing. As you turned around, you saw his static frame close by. You took in his expression. Mouth agape, eyes opened wide and pupils dilated. He stood beside... DOLORES!
She whispered something to him and fled the scene when she saw your panicked reaction. "She definitely told him." As Camilo stopped coughing, finally managing to gain control of his voice, he took a few steps forward. You couldn't back away now.
It was time to face the music.
"Is- is that true Y/N?" He stammered. He felt the electrifying hope blooming slowly inside his soul. You had never seen him this nervous. Ask anyone and they'd easily confirm he was always confident.
"Yeah... Sorry," You knitted your eyebrows feeling uneasy as you waited for the most likely outcome in your mind. You don't think you can handle a rejection- not from him. You wouldn't be able to look him in the eye afterwards.
"Why are you apologizing?" He laughed scrunching his nose in amazement. "This is great!" You tilted your head and looked to the sides puzzled as he raised his arms in victory. You saw Isabela and Mirabel smirking before setting your eyes on him once again.
"I can tell you have no idea but- Look I-" He stuttered as he tried to explain himself. "I swear it was eating me alive- here I was beating myself up because- because I thought you weren't even interested. Not a little bit," he breathed relieved and grabbed your hands.
"I can finally ask you... would you go out with me? Please?" You stood dumbstruck and speechless for a few seconds. You swore you couldn't form words. He noticed your hesitation but decided to keep going.
Camilo was set on convincing you. "I can kneel down if you want," he motioned bending his knee and before you could stop him to say that wasn't necessary, he slipped on the surprisingly wide puddle from the drink he'd spilt a few moments before.
Your reflexes listened for the first time ever. You quickly reached for his torso and wrapped an arm around it before managing to grab his hand for support. The position made you both look like a couple about to dance.
"Would you look at that? Delightful change of events," He chuckled before winking. "It's my turn to fall for you," He got closer and your noses were touching. You blushed deeply at the nearness. You'd never been this close before.
"See! That wasn't so hard now was it?" You heard Isabela exclaim loudly, making everyone around you turn their focus to the both of you. You were still in the same position, feeling unable to move away...
nor wanting to.
"What'd I miss?" You heard Luisa's voice ask Isa and she motioned to you both. "Ohh! Yes Y/N get some!" Luisa cheered shaking her fist in celebration. You scrunched your nose embarrassed but couldn't stop the satisfied smile appear on your face at the way everything had played out.
Camilo broke into a fit of laughter at his prima's remark before holding you closer with genuine pride.
Author's note: Another day, another fluff. Probably gonna upload a very fluffy one or a slight angst and fluff one next week. 🌹

pairing - camilo madrigal x gn! reader
summary - camilo comforts you during a thunderstorm
warnings - none, just fluff
notes - for @cxsmo101 since they gave me the idea <3 sorry it’s short! i wrote this in like 10 minutes lol
your head currently rested on your boyfriend camilo’s lap as you both lay comfortably on his bed, while you peacefully read a book that camilo swore you read fourteen times already. not that he was counting.
“i can’t help it if a great piece of literature like this exists, camilo!” was your reply the first time he tried to pry the book from your grasp when you went too long without acknowledging him. the memory make camilo chuckle as he recalled it.
the peaceful moment ended abruptly when a flash of lightening, followed by the sound of thunder, came from outside of camilo’s window. the sudden flash of lightening caused you to temporarily lose your sight, as it was nearby. this startled you and caused you to lose your grip on the book you were peacefully reading moments prior.
your book lay abandoned on the floor as you shot up from your position and threw your arms around camilo, your gaze locked on the window with fear reflecting on your eyes.
your reaction caused camilo to turn to you with a confused expression evident on his features, an eyebrow raised. he has never seen you this terrified for as long as you have known each other, not even when he comforted you over a nightmare that left you so terrified you cried in his arms.
camilo was about to question your behaviour before he was interrupted by another roar of thunder. you wrapped your arms ever so slightly tighter around your boyfriend, tears now threatening to fall from your eyes. camilo noticed this almost instantly and moved his arm to gently rub your back in an attempt to calm you.
“ay, mi amor. you never told me that you’re scared of thunderstorms.” camilo whispered, afraid that he would startle you further if he spoke any louder.
with soft spoken words of reassurance camilo gently moved you so that you lay under the blanket with him.
now facing each other, camilo placed soft kisses on your temple as he gently ran his fingers through your hair.
“shh, mi amor, i’m right here.” your boyfriend reassured in a soft tone.
this soft side that camilo showed came of a surprise to you, expecting your mischievous boyfriend to tease you about your fear.
you took a deep breath to compose yourself and smiled at your boyfriend to show your appreciation.
“thank you, mi vida.” your lips met camilo’s for a gentle kiss to show that you’re now feeling better.
camilo decided from that moment that he should get his mami to create thunderstorms more frequently.
