#camilo trying to scare mirabel
Note
In Heartstopper, how did Moana asking Mirabel to prom go?
Mirabel blinked. Her eyes shifting from the trumpet, the scroll and the tacky costumes Camilo, Marco and Moana were wearing - a clash of several different periods of history. Camilo had gone for some Shakespearean look, Marco looked like he was some kind of Viking, and Moana was dressed for the Regency era. What on earth were they doing? They had exams to be studying for.
“I told you not to play the trumpet without lessons,” Marco mumbled to Camilo.
The theatre kid shrugged, “Well, technically speaking, I did have lessons. I just didn’t listen to a word of what Dolores said.”
“I’m confused,” Mirabel said, “Are you lot trying to fail your drama classes or trying to scare people off? …I suppose it doesn’t matter when you are completing both simultaneously.”
“I’m asking you to go to prom with me.” Moana explained, beaming.
“Ta-dah!” Camilo waved his hands, dramatically.
Mirabel glanced around the empty school playground. It was the end of the day, most kids didn’t hang about by choice and any who were here previously, quickly disappeared the moment these three came out like this. She carefully approached them, trying not to drop the many books she was carrying in her arms.
“Of course, I’d be going. The whole class is going. That is kind of the point.”
Nobody said anything, as it was clear that Mirabel hadn’t understood. Camilo visibly faced palmed at his cousin, who still seemed none the wiser.
“Maybe we shouldn’t have used that Shakespearean translator,” Moana whispered to her comrades. “Do you think something got lost in translation?”
“No. I just think she’s an idiot.” Camilo offered.
“But she isn’t an idiot! She’s really smart!”
“Well, maybe she’s just really oblivious?”
Marco cleared his throat, “You could just try asking her normally?”
Moana nodded. “Good idea, Marco. We should have just done that in the first place.” She stumbled over the muddy grass, staining the bottom of her dress to reach Mirabel. Camilo and Marco followed behind, only for one of them to slip and pull the other down. They burst out into a flurry of laughter. Moana giggled a bit herself and was amused to find Mirabel doing the same, though trying to hide it. “Mirabel, I wanted to—”
That’s when a car pulled up, a very out of breath Luisa rolling down the window as Mirabel approached.
“I swear I didn’t forget you, hermanita!” She yelled. “My boss asked me to cover Santiago’s shift and I panicked! I got out of there as soon as I could, I swear!”
Mirabel chuckled at her sister, “It’s only been ten minutes since the bell. You’re fine. I asked my teachers if I could borrow these textbooks in that time. There is nothing these exams can throw at me that I won’t be prepared for.”
“Yep, your exams that are still over a year away.” Luisa opened the door, watching her sister clamber in and helping her shove the pile of books into the back of the car. She glanced back at the others, “Wait, what are they doing? Is this some bad improv again? I told you, next time they start, just walk away.”
“Oh, I have no idea; something about prom.” Mirabel answered. “How is Santiago? He is the one who just had a baby, isn’t he?”
They didn’t hear the rest of the conversation. Mirabel closed the door, buckled herself in and Luisa pulled away.
Moana was just left standing alone on the pavement, by the time Marco and Camilo, both thoroughly covered in mud joined her. They both grinned at her in anticipation.
“So… how’d it go?” Marco asked.
“Is she gonna come dress shopping with us?” Camilo questioned, at the same time.
“She… I don’t think she got it…”

Hello it is I!
POV PEPA
She needs to calm down. Gain some control. But it's a little hard to do that when her mind is racing the way it is. She doesn't understand why this is happening. And why to poor Mirabel? She's such a wonderful girl. She doesn't deserve this, and poor Julieta she must be out of her mind with worry and fear.
She needs to calm down her panicking like this isn't going to help anyone, let alone her sister who needs her right now. She focuses on her breathing.
in-one, two, three.
out-one, two, three.
Clear skies, clear skies,clear skies
She isn't aware of how much time has passed around her but she has a feeling it's only been a few minutes. Felix is right next to her whispering sweet things in her ear, dios Mio he's such a wonderful man, she takes another calming breath in, feeling the weather around her calming down as she does. She then takes a look around the room needing to ground herself in the moment. Her mother is sitting at the head of the table like always but she looks tired, not reacting to her storm like she usually would just sitting there. She sees her brother-in-law entering the dinning room with her sobrina in his arms. Finally she looks over to see Dolores and Camilo sitting in their usual spots both looking at her with wide shock and fearful looks. She wants to comfort them but she honestly has no idea what she could even say in this moment that would comfort them so instead she looks for Antonio.
He isn't here.
The wind that just calmed down picks up again.
"WHERE'S ANTONIO?" She whips around to look at her husband barely recognizes her own panicked screeching which she almost regrets doing seeing her daughter flinch from the corner of her eye.
She watches Felix blink in shock then look around for their youngest son only to have panic fill his eyes when he realizes that he isn't there. "I d-don't know I.... He was here just a minute ago!"
Before she can panic even more Dolores squeaks out "He's with Tia Julieta." The relief that fills Pepa is instant and fills her entire being but just as instantly as the relief came so did the heartbreak. Julieta is in the nursery with a baby Mirabel. He didn't go into the nursery looking for Julieta.
She sighs softly trying to mentally prepare herself for what shes about to do "thank you Dolores." She quickly gets up but stops there just behind Augustine and Isabela and Luisa is Julieta with Antonio and a squirm and whimpering baby cradled in her arms.
Julieta's pov
She didn't mean to start crying but Antonio asking for Mirable shattered the small amount of control she had built up. She doesn't cry long just a moment but she feels guilty for doing so. Antonio stands in front of her looking so scared and lost and her crying just makes him feel worse but she can't help it.
"Tia what's wrong? Why did you cry? I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you cry!" Antonio looks so heartbreakingly sad and confused which almost makes Julieta cry again but she keeps her composure this time.
"Oh Antonio no. You didn't make me cry sweetheart.... I am just really sad. Casita did something last night and well... Come here and look." She shifts the now quiet bundle in her arms so that Antonio can see the baby Mirable. Antonio quickly moves forward, practically crawling into her lap to get a better look. Mirable smiles slightly as she looks up at Antonio which makes Julieta smile slightly at the adorable sight the two of them make.
"I don't understand.... This is a baby... Why would a baby make you sad? Shouldn't everybody be happy?" Antonio looks up to her waiting for her answer
"yes usually a baby would make everyone happy. But this isn't just any baby... This is.... Mirable." Julieta stumbles through her explanation trying her best to explain something she herself doesn't understand.
"Mira? This is Mira?" He looks back and forth between her and Mirable a strange thoughtful look on his face.
"yes this is Mira. I don't know how and the why is a little... Complicated but this is Mira tonito." Julieta hopes he doesn't have any questions about it she doesn't know how much more she can take.
He nods his head once before saying "Ok. Is Mira coming to breakfast?" Julieta is both relieved that he doesn't have any questions and slightly shocked at his quick acceptance of the situation.
"I.... Yes. I think Mira and I should go to breakfast now, in fact why don't we all walk to the dining room now?" Pepa is more than likely calmed down by now and trying to delay this will probably only make it worse in the long run. Mirable whimpers slightly from her cradled arms.
Antonio hops off her lap with a quick "ok." He holds out one of her hands for her to take and as soon as she takes it he starts leading her to the dining room. As they make their way to the dining room Mirable starts to squirm and whimper.
All eyes are on her as soon as she's in sight in the dining room she shifts slightly uncomfortable but takes a deep breath before saying a simple "Hi." She finds herself surrounded by well meaning family members asking questions and she instantly regrets leaving the nursery.
Pepa realizing Antonio was gone but only after while is so real. And then when she finally calmed down, she started up again 🌚 or at least she will soon👹👹 But these guys had Julieta stressing 💀💀 Mirabel too. Wouldn’t be surprised if the chaos (and the QUESTIONS) left the poor girl overwhelmed. And she’s not even the one answering them 🦈🦈
All of them need to be cut a break 💀💀

Garish au
Shit happens sometimes
A loud cracking thundered in Isabela's ears. Abuela stepped back, horrified as cracks ran between them, breaking everything around. They climbed up the walls, picking at them. Tiles twisted around, the roof skewed. This was bad. The candle jumped out of its place, rolling over the windowsill.
"THE CANDLE!" Somebody had yelled. The house was breaking in front of their eyes.
Luisa grabbed Mirabel, who helplessly tried to yank herself from the grip.
Isabela breathed out in panic, rushing forward. Vines... Right, they had always helped her to get higher. She waved her hand, summoning a plant. Grabbing onto it
The vine snapped broken in just a few inches from the roof. Isabela gasped in horror , falling onto the broken beams. She groaned in pain, pressing her palm against her ribs and sharing a scared look with Camilo. Her first intention was to try again. She still could climb in time if she's fast enough. But, witnessing how plaster fell down in giant pieces, door fell off their hinges, roof tiles ere breaking against the floor. Trying to get up was a deadly sentence. They needed to get out of here.
The tiles waved profusely, pushing them all out. Isabela rolled over the bare ground, dirt and dust clinged to her dress. Part of it was torn. The house was breaking. Just here, just like this, and they could do nothing to stop it. Isabela looked over her slightly hurt family. Even without the first fall, they were obviously uncomfortable with the fall. Tío Felix held Antonio in the moment to prevent him from harm. Same went for Luisa who helped their hermanita and Abuela. Everyone except these three tho? Well, it was pretty harsh.
Isabela clentched her fists. Why would Casita break? She had done everything that she needed? Was it because of Abuela? It definitely was. If she didn't interfere, maybe Isabela could fix this.
She could really use some time alone.
Alma sat on one of the stone pieces, looking nowhere. Their home was broken. Destroyed again. Speaking logically, she had to stand up and claim that they will get through it. But this thing, the feeling of unsertanity when the place she lived for so long was destroyed...
She didn't mean to hurt her family. She didn't mean to ruin their home. She just... She wanted to protect them.
Tears welled up in her eyes as the family was talking about the matter. There was nothing left. No magic, no home. Just ruins of everything that Alma tried to keep for fifty years.
"Where is Isabela?!" Alma looked up at her middle daughter. Her loud voice was enough to replace the expected thunder.
And looking around... She was right... Where did Isabela go?

Ok I know you’re really into the owl house right now but I was listening to my nostalgia playlist and I wanted your opinion on a thought I had.
Which MLP character(s) would be the Encanto cast’s’ favorites?
See I was listening to What my Cutie Mark is Telling Me and I noticed some similarities between the Mane 6 and the Madrigal Grandkids. So like in a True True Friend Dolores would be Twilight, Antonio is Fluttershy, Camilo is Pinkie Pie, Luisa is Apple Jack, Mirabel is Rarity, and Isabela is Rainbow Dash so instead of weather it’s plant life.
Which also got me thinking who is everyone’s favorite pony? For Example Pepa loves Rainbow Dash. While Julieta likes Celestia. Dolores would be into Cadence and Twilight maybe. Antonio can relate to Fluttershy and Camilo would find Pinkie Pie funny and relatable. Mirabe would probably enjoy Twilight’s journey but love Rarity’s sense of style. Luisa sees a lot of herself in the Apple family especially Apple Jack and Big Mac. Then Bruno would adore Luna. Not sure about Isabela’s favorite.
What do you think?
(I'm still into Encanto, I'm just secretive about it)
I actually talked about this on my Instagram stories a WHILE back. I definitely agree Mirabel would enjoy Twilight's journey. Weirdly enough though I think her favorite would be Pinkie Pie? (Her main motivation is trying to help and spread joy to others)
Ofc Antonio's favorite is Fluttershy and Luisa's is Applejack (she might also like Fluttershy, but she mainly relates to Applejack's tendency to overwork herself)
I actually think Isabela's favorite would be Twilight because she relates to her need to be perfect. She might also like Rarity for similar reasons, especially after the Punk Rarity scene
Dolores's favorite is DEFINITELY Cadence. They're both so lovecore. And Dolores would project her and Mariano onto Candence and Shining Armor
Camilo thinks Pinkie Pie is funny and Rainbow Dash is cool (she has weather powers like his mami) but he says Chrysalis is his favorite because she's a shape-shifter. And to annoy Dolores.
As obvious as a choice it is, yes Bruno's favorite favorite pony is Luna, and he relates a lot to her as well. Of the mane six, his favorite would be Fluttershy because he likes how she's the only one who gave Discord a chance.
I've brainstormed an Encanto MLP Au before too. The Triplets are all different types of ponies. Julieta is an Earth Pony, Pepa is a Pegasus, and Bruno is a Unicorn. Bruno also has green magic like all villains in the MLP universe, which adds on to everyone being scared of him.
I also imagine Mirabel is the only one in her family who never got a Cutie Mark (until after the events of the movie?). This image is basically her and Bruno:

Camilo and Chickpea
Tumblr media
Camilo was doing his usual routine of pranking villagers and just having a fun time with his friends. After he was done, he decided to head home for lunch and relax a bit. Unbeknownst to him, a small little yellow thing was following him.
It took about five chirps before he stopped…and looked around.
“What is that noise?”
Chirp!
He looked down, and that’s when he saw a little chick sitting on top of his foot like it owned it. Milo tilted his head at the little yellow puffball and looked around, seemingly looking for where this little thing came from.
It was from one of the Chicken farms, that much he knew. But HOW did it end up from the other side of the Encanto…to on top of his foot? Without being seen by cats or being stepped on?
So, he picked the little fella up and contemplated what he should do. Should he take it to a farm where this little guy could be used for food or to lay more eggs once it’s older?...or keep it as a pet?
Camilo decided to go with the latter and walked back inside with his new friend. And besides, if Antonio can keep a jaguar then camilo can surely keep a chicken, right?
Once inside he saw his little brother and prima mira sitting on the floor coloring.
“Hey, look at what followed me home”
Cami sat down in front of them and released the yellow feather baby. Antonio ‘awed’ and picked the little chick up. Mirabel was just confused as to why camilo had a chick on him.
“Um…why do you have a chick?”
“It followed me”
“.....a chick…followed YOU home?”
“Mirabel, I'm not just going to take a chick from its mother. Don’t you think that’s a little cruel?”
“Well I’m finding it hard to believe a literal baby chick followed you home on its own accord”
Antonio chimed in to the conversation “she said she left her nest to see what was beyond that weird barrier that only the big weird looking chickens can go through. After that she got lost and scared and decided to follow that big chicken. I think she means Milo”
“I’m sorry, does she think humans are just…bigger, odd looking chickens?”
“Yeah, all chickens do”
“...Oh”
The chick peeped some more and Antonio leaned down to hear her. “Oh, she says she likes Cami as her mama more. She doesn’t really remember her old one anyway or which nest she came from”
Cue camilo who looks really emotional “she sees me as her mama?”
Cue Mirabel rolling her eyes “oh hear we go”
After that day, Camilo kept the little chick and named her Chickpea (right on the nose aint it?). All family members find it hilarious and ironic that the shapeshifting chameleon boy has a chicken for a pet.
Pepa and Felix see Chickpea as their unconventional nieta. They can’t do much given her…chicken-ness but they like to have her around when Camilo is out. Both of them keep her on their shoulders or in their pockets.
Casita decided to be funny and mark Alma’s door “Bisabuela”. She didn’t understand what it meant until she saw Chickpea and was told the situation.
Mirabel knitted “father of an animal club” on his rauna. It was originally a club of one, which was just Bruno and his rats but now there’s a new member. Camilo wears it proudly. She also stitched a pocket to the front of it just in case he wanted to carry her around.
Mira also likes knitting little hats for Chickpea, it’s tedious to make something for a creature so small but she’s up for the challenge.
Dolores takes her role as the honorary Tia very seriously. Same with Antonio. He pledged to be the very best influence on her.
Luisa and Isabela love her too, although only one of them is trying to be a good influence and it’s not Luisa. Isa likes snatching Chickpea whenever she can and sprinkles her with pollen to make her look “cool”.
“Isabela! She’s MY daughter, not yours”
“I don’t care”
Alma and the blue couple don’t know what to think of the new family member other than she’s cute. And Alma hopes Camilo won’t get bored or tired of the new responsibility because from what she knew, chicks need care like every other pet in this world.
He never got tired of her though and always made sure she was okay.
Luisa absolutely loves her. Will have her sit on her lap while she reads or just talk to her.
(teenage and adult years)
Chickpea is very spoiled and very much a diva (thanks to her “mama”). And used to having her needs met instantly. If they aren’t, she irritatingly bawks like no tomorrow. Not too loud, she knows Dolores has sensitive hearing, but she does it loud enough to the point where it’s annoying enough to get what she wants. And if that doesn’t work, she pecks you.
Chickpea also has her own collection of hats and necklaces thanks to her Tia Mirabel, Tio Antonio, and her “mama”.
She is very sweet though and knows when someone is upset and needs a cuddle. She’ll cuddle just about anyone if it makes them happy, especially Camilo.
She certainly IS potty trained and knows exactly where to go when she needs to go (if you catch my drift).
Camilo does include her in on his pranks (thanks to Antonio explaining the concept to her). She’s just as mischievous as her mama and loves chasing people around because it’s funny to her. Seeing creatures much bigger than you run away when you are chasing them is a hilarious thing to see.
She is also in Bruno’s rat telenovelas as the leading actress. She won’t have it any other way…and yes, she’s just as dramatic as her mother.
That’s all I got, I hoped you liked these.
Inspired by @midcanto (Also, I remember you saying Camilo has Disney princess aura and I kind of want to make an au now)

Encantober 2023 Day 16: Grief
The end of January was always a hard time of the year for Julieta and Agustin. January twenty-sixth was the original due date for the child they were supposed to have when Luisa was two years old. Julieta and Agustin were so excited that they were having another child together, but their lives would come crashing down that spring. She got several tests done at the hospital and it was confirmed that she miscarried.
The months after the announcement were the most devastating months for Julieta and Agustin. They saw the door disappear slowly before getting a confirmation from the doctor, which made them anxious. That was when they went to the hospital to get the confirmation. The entire family grieved the loss of their potential new child, sibling, cousin, grandchild, and nibling, but Julieta carrying the child made her the most traumatized.
Now, every year on January twenty-sixth, the Madrigal family hosts a private memorial service to remember the life the child could have had with them. Alma would tell the story of the would-be Madrigal to Mirabel, Camilo, and Antonio and have a yearly candle ceremony by the lake. While they also celebrated the life the child could have had, Julieta and Agustin could not get themselves to even try to celebrate their child’s potential life.
When the child’s would-have-been eighteenth birthday approached, Alma decided to hold a ceremony at Casita and have Julieta make a cake for them. As much as she did not want to, she agreed anyway because they would still be an important part of the family, and it would have been her child, after all.
While she was baking the cake, Mirabel came into the kitchen to see her mother clearly upset while baking. She could not help but walk in to see her mother crying and see how she was doing.
“Hola, mami; I couldn’t help but notice you still crying while baking. Are you still upset about the miscarriage?”
“Si, Mirabel; I really hope you never have to deal with this when you get to my age. It’s one of the most devastating things any mother could go through. That’s why we always say how you were our miracle baby, because we didn’t think we would be able to have any more children after that.”
Mirabel sat at the kitchen island while Julieta continued gathering ingredients. “I hope you don’t mind, mami, but could you tell me about your pregnancy a little bit? I know it didn’t last long, but I wanted to know how it felt.”
Julieta signaled Mirabel to come near her. “I was so excited about having a third child. Your tia was visibly upset and jealous since she was trying so hard to conceive and knowing I was able to do so twice after her made her visibly upset. But she still supported me and was just as upset when I announced the miscarriage.”
Mirabel hugged her mother once she told that part of the story. She wanted to learn more about the older sibling she could have had, but she also knew there was not much information to be revealed since her pregnancy did not last very long.
“You also have no idea how excited your papi and I were when I was pregnant with you two years later. It was also why I got so emotional when you were born. It also made me worried because of the last pregnancy. So I was kind of overprotective of you when you were born. I didn’t even let your tia Pepa or tio Bruno hold you for a couple weeks because I was too scared of losing you.”
Mirabel began helping her mother with the cake by taking out some flour and sugar from the cabinet. “Do you remember how you felt after the miscarriage was announced?”
“It was the most devastating news your papa and I got. We went to the hospital that day because we saw the door fade and we needed to do some tests at the hospital to see if we didn’t miscarry. Once we did the test, they diagnosed the miscarriage and that was when we and the rest of the family got the news.”
Julieta put a bowl on the counter and Mirabel started to scoop flour into it. Julieta got the milk and the butter from the refrigerator and put it on the counter. “Do you still sometimes wonder what kind of gift they would have had if they were born?”
“We sometimes do; we wonder a lot of things about the child if we ended up having them. Like, what their interests would have been, or which one of the adults they would have been the most attached to. Bruno liked to joke about how they would have been the most attached to him just to tease me, since Isabela was the most attached to you abuela and Luisa was the most attached to your papi.”
Julieta took two cups of water and put it in the bowl of flour. Isabela and Luisa came into the kitchen to see their mother and sister working on the cake. “Hola, Mami and Mirabel, we just wanted to see how the cake was doing,” Isabela mentioned.
“The cake is getting done. I just needed to give Mami some motivation to make it,” Mirabel replied.
“What’s been going on?” Luisa asked.
“I’ve just been thinking about the child I would have had, like I always do when we have these ceremonies,” Julieta explained.
“Mami, I know that this is the hardest day of the year for you and papi, and you’re not wrong for still grieving for their potential life. But you still understand why Abuela holds these ceremonies every year, right?” Isabela explained.
“Si, because the life they would have had would still be special and to teach us that even the potential life is precious.”
Julieta’s daughters hugged her excitedly once she mentioned the reason. “So you still understand the meaning of these ceremonies,” Mirabel mentioned.
“And besides, you still have three amazing daughters that fill your life with joy everyday,” said Isabela.
“And you still call Mirabel your miracle baby and express how grateful you are that she’s here, alive, and healthy,” Luisa added.
Julieta hugged her daughters back. “Do you want to help me with the cake? Mirabel offered and we would need this done in a couple hours.”
“Si, mami, we would love to,” Luisa replied.
The cool-colored sisters gathered more ingredients for the cake and helped Julieta finish making the cake. They put it in the oven after gathering the ingredients and helping Julieta mix them in the batter. After a half hour, Julieta took the cake out of the oven and Mirabel got the icing out of the refrigerator, and all three girls iced the cake. Each daughter then decided to be in charge of one decorating process for the cake and it was done within another half hour. The four women looked at the cake in awe to see how great it looked.
“I’m sure it’s going to taste as great as it looks,” Mirabel pointed out.
“And it’s all because I got my three amazing daughters to help me out,” Julieta added.
Alma came into the kitchen to see her elder daughter and her three cool-colored granddaughters finishing up with the cake.
“Is the cake almost finished? You have been in here for several hours,” Alma pointed out.
“Lo siento, mama, I was just thinking about the grief this miscarriage has given me and was telling Mirabel about my pregnancy at the time. I understand that I’ve been dreading this day every year for eighteen years, and I’m still going to in the future, but I’m starting to find some more positives on this day too,” Julieta explained.
Alma smiled and gave Julieta a hug. “I knew you would one day see the good in these ceremonies. You know that we celebrate all the Madrigals in this house, even the ones we lost and never got a chance at life.”
“I understand now, mama. And now, even Mirabel understands too.”

I’d love to see your take on Bruno explaining to the kids that he’s perfectly content without a partner and kids of his own, maybe because they’re (lovingly) pestering him about it or trying to set him up.
(I sent this prompt to sokkas recently as well, but what can I say I’m greedy and curious to see two of my fave writers’ takes on the same prompt. As a treat.)
-gvr :D
Well @sokkas-first-fangirl already did an amazing job, I hope mine will keep up
****
"Tonito. We need to talk."
Antonio ducks his head. He knows that tone of voice from his Mama. She uses that one when he's done something he shouldn't have done. The 'you are not in trouble but you kinda are' tone. Cami taught him how to recognize it and what to do to get back out of trouble.
He immediately presses his hands together, makes his eyes go big and round and purses his lips. Exactly like Camilo has taught him.
"I love you, I'm sorry and I will never do it again."
Tio Bruno stares down at him with a puzzled look on his face. For a second Antonio is scared that Cami's trick isn't working, but then Bruno's shoulders, which had been up to his ears with tension, loosen up and his lips pull into a reluctant smile.
"Do you even know what it is you will never do again?"
Antonio opens his mouth and pauses. "No."
Tio Bruno finally laughs and Antonio's heart feels a little lighter. Something about his uncle being cross with him is even worse than when it is his Mama. Maybe because it's so difficult to make Bruno angry in the first place. He must have done something truly bad.
Antonio fidgets with the edges of his vest and only stops when he feels a large, calloused hand gently card through his hair.
"I'm not angry, Tonito." His uncle instinctively knows exactly what to say to make him feel better. Bruno always claims that he is not good with other people, but Antonio secretly thinks that other people are just not good with Tio Bruno. "I really just want to talk."
"Okay?"
Bruno sits down on the ground and gestures to Antonio to join him. He probably didn't expect the little boy to plop down on his lap, but doesn't push him off either. "You told me Senora Lorna wanted to speak to me. That she needed help with something."
"Yes."
"But apparently, Senora Lorna didn't need help. She thought it was a…" He clears his throat. "She thought we would be going on a date."
"Did it work?" Antonio asks excitedly. "I read about it in a book. I sent you two on a cute visit."
"Meet cute." Bruno corrects absent-mindedly. "And no, Tonito. We didn't go on a date."
"But I thought you like her."
"I do. As a friend." Bruno sighs and he is really serious all of a sudden. "Tonito, Senora Lorna was really embarrassed. And also a bit sad. It was not nice to lie to her like that."
Antonio can feel himself tearing up. "I didn't mean to make her sad! I just wanted to help."
Bruno pulls him closer. "I know. And she knows that too, don't worry. Just please don't do something like this again, okay?"
"Okay." Antonio sniffles some more. He feels really bad, but he just wanted to make his uncle happy. "I just wanted to help you", he repeats.
Bruno sighs again. Antonio can't see his face because he is still pressed against his chest, but it sounds kinda sad. "I know, amigo."
The little boy pushes away so he can look up at his uncle. "Who do you like?"
Bruno smirks and bops his nose. "I like you, you little troublemaker."
Antonio giggles and squirms away. "No! Not like that. Who do you like like. Like Mama likes Papa."
"No one."
"No one?" Antonio shouts. He thought everyone like liked someone. Even Isabela like likes that girl from the village even though she is always denying it and throwing cacti at Mirabel when her sister teases her about it. Mama told him he doesn't like like anyone yet cause he's still too young. "Are you still too young for that?"
Bruno blinks a few times. He looks like he really needs to think about it. "That's a new one." he mutters under his breath. "I have never liked someone like your parents like each other. Pretty sure I never will."
"But why?"
Bruno shrugs. "There are many different kinds of people on this earth, buddy. Some want something like what your parents have, or something like Isa and her mystery girl. They want to get married and have a lot of children. And some don't want any of that at all. Like me."
"But aren't you lonely?"
Bruno smiles softly and rests his head atop Antonio's. "Oh no. How could I ever be lonely with all of you around? I have everything I will ever need, Tonito. Don't worry about your old tio."
Antonio kind of gets it. And if Tio Bruno says he's okay and happy, then Antonio will believe him.
And anyway, this way he can have his Tio all to himself. That's so much better than a new Tia.
"I'll draw a picture for Senora Lorna. As an apology."
"That's a great idea!"
"Will you help me?"
Cami has said that you can also use the big eyes and pouty lips for situations like this. It seems to be working, because Bruno laughs and ruffles his hair.
"Of course!"

The little things in Encanto that get me is all the ways the family treats Mirabel as the youngest. Because she was the youngest for ten years! So they still see her as little sister!
Stuff like: mid-song, Luisa fixes Mirabel’s glasses for her. Camilo, while trying to scare her, still is very gentle in catching her and tossing her. Luisa and Bruno both raise their voices at Mirabel only to immediately apologize. They tell her “we don’t talk about Bruno, buuut…” because they’re sharing secrets with her! (There is just something about baby sibling that makes you want to tell them everything, I know this as a baby sibling myself) Even them all saying they don’t believe her, but then thinking about what she said and beginning to believe her.
The only one who doesn’t treat her as the youngest is Antonio. But, Antonio treats her as a sort of mentor figure, because they are both the babies! And, in a big family, the baby boy and baby girl are both treated as the babies. So, they treat each other very maturely because they have baby of the family solidarity.
Just… Mirabel is the baby of the family… to the point that Bruno was willing to leave for her, and her dad stands up to the matriarch of the family for her, and she was allowed to walk with Antonio (I really doubt they would have been so forgiving if it was Luisa or Isabella, it’s family baby privilege to do things “wrong” but just get a disappointed look instead of a speech).
Another thing! I know that they are triplets, but I really, really, reaaaaally doubt a tiny lady like Alma squeezed out three children at the exact same time. Which means that one of the triplets is older. And I think it’s Julieta! They call for Julieta when the house is destroyed, and while Bruno apologizes to Pepa, Julieta doesn’t let him apologize to her. Pepa has major middle child vibes, Bruno is definitely supposed to be the youngest (since he is a narrative mirror to Mirabel, the youngest), and Julieta just acts like such a big sister to her siblings at the end!
(Side note. I, too, would marry Julieta, even if it meant marrying into a family that made me feel kind of useless. She is the best. And she’s so sweet and she’s so pretty and Julieta is perfect, I accept no criticism)
My siblings feelings sprout up with this movie, it’s awful, all I can think about is the siblings doing Sibling Mischief.

so I finally watched Encanto. cue Madrigal feels bc what am I, if not on brand.
also please note, I’m a white, Slavic girl living in Central Europe so I probably didn’t get a lot of the Latinx subtext in the movie.
man, first of all, all of the Bruno feels.
Bruno must have had it so hard all his life. the only man in the family, he must have felt the pressure of supporting everyone. and the triplets presumably received their gifts at the same time and it must’ve been scary for each of them in different ways. Pepa obviously, because how do you ask a five-year-old to control their moods because a tantrum can cause a hurricane? Julieta is a different case because cooking is not an obvious gift, so maybe for a while she thought that her siblings got gifts but she didn’t?
and Bruno got future vision. at age 5. it must have been terrifying. no wonder he’s one bundle of anxiety.
I was wondering why Pepa and Julieta were rather late mothers, but now that I think of it, they must have been scared that their kids would get gifts as well. and these gifts would be just as scary.
Dolores and Isabela are both 21 which means Pepa and Julieta were both 29 when they had them. and man, while Isabella’s gift is innocent enough, Dolores’s is also kinda terrifying because imagine hearing all sorts of stuff at age 5. no wonder Julieta had her second child two years later (Luisa is 19) but Pepa waited 6 years (Camilo is 15) and then another 10 (Antonio is 5).
because Camilo’s gift is also kinda scary. Julieta’s daughters got off easy. Prow’s children? not so much.
and then Mirabel got no gift at all. and she saw it as a bad thing, as did Alma, but you can’t tell me the triplets weren’t secretly a little grateful. Pepa and Bruno at least.
Antonio’s gift is scary too, when you think about it. I bet he is gonna convince everyone to become vegan, isn’t he?
but back to Bruno.
Alma’s trauma response was the expectation of perfection from her family. but man, what expectations she must have had from Bruno, who could never replace her Pedro but who must have felt like he should. like he should be the man of the family. on top of his scary visions. I kinda think his invention of Hernando and Jorge was a little bit trying to find a version of himself that was good enough for everyone when he felt he wasn’t.
think about how everyone thinks Bruno was mischievous, when in reality he was a nervous goofball.
his disappearance… one doesn’t make such a decision hastily. I can’t imagine him hiding in the walls on a whim. I can see him finding the hidden room and hiding out there as a child… and then, after admirable doesn’t get a gift and he has his last vision, he goes to his safe place and just… never leaves. the family has another Madrigal man with a gift in Camilo.
for some reason I don’t think Bruno got along well with either of his sisters’ husbands. Felix and Agustin are clearly in love with their wives and happy to take on a more supportive role in the family whereas Bruno probably think he ought to be the patriarch… when he’s anything but. he must’ve felt lonely.

Hi Sokka! Not sure if this is in the right place to submit this request/ask, but how would everyone that isn’t Mirabel react to seeing Bruno’s crazy Parkour moves for the first time (especially Alma because a small scare might be good for reminding her that she needs to work harder to do right by Bruno and keep him safe)? Also, how would they try to “rescue” him from falling? Bonus points if Bruno is super confused about why everyone is worried when he does stunts.
***
Pepa, Julieta, Agustín and Félix definitely already knew. They just assumed that maybe Bruno couldn’t anymore since he’s, you know, not in his twenties anymore. They sure can’t!
But Alma and the other kids? Clueless. They’re gonna have heart attacks
Tumblr media
It happened while they were rebuilding Casita. A lot of things happened while they were rebuilding Casita.
In this instance, Bruno nearly gave Abuela a heart attack.
Mirabel watched, impressed, as her uncle jumped up and climbed Casita’s growing walls with ease, to bring a bag of supplies to some of the villagers. He scaled the wall like a monkey, leaping over a gap and using a beam to swing himself to the platform they were on. He landed lightly, arms outstretched for balance. Smiling, he handed the bag to the gaping villager.
Mirabel wasn’t sure how he did it. Normally, Tio Bruno was distracted and clumsy.
“Huh,” Tio Félix said. “I didn’t think he could still do that.”
“Can I do that?” Camilo asked eagerly.
“Absolutely not.”
But then there was a horrified scream: “BRUNO MADRIGAL, GET DOWN FROM THERE!”
Abuela had spotted him. Uh oh.
“Eh?” Bruno was hanging upside down from one of the beams. “What’s up, Mamá?”
“What’s- wh- what’s up!?” she screamed. “Mijo, you’re going to break your neck!”
“Alma,” Félix said, tone careful and soft. “It’s okay, he’s-”
Bruno jumped down. Abuela actually covered her eyes.
He landed perfectly.
Camilo and Mirabel clapped.
“Mamá?” Bruno stepped forward cautious, eyes wide. “I’m okay.”
Breathing heavily, Alma pulled him into a tight hug. “Dios mio, don’t do that!” she gasped. “For pity’s sake, that’s dangerous!”
“I’ve been doing it for years,” Bruno said.
“I saw him do it when we met,” Mirabel added. “He’s good.”
Abuela was not reassured. Her eyes narrowed in suspicion. “Did your sisters knows about this?”
“No!” Bruno crossed his fingers behind his back. Félix quickly backed away. “Ay, Mamí, of course not!”

So, did Dolores discover that she can silence people?
Removing her hands, she thinks the whole crowd could hear a pin drop in the moment. She almost considers asking Mirabel for one to test the theory. Yet, as always, the silence never lasts, if indicated by the approaching footsteps.
“Dolo—”
“Sis—”
Before either Isabela or Camilo can finish, Dolores turns her glare on to them. She can almost see the sound waves as they call, obliterating into nothing.
Emphasised by their eyes shrinking back in shock and maybe even fear. Isabela covers her mouth with her hand forcefully. Camilo, still a couple steps behind, actually attempts to finish what he was saying but no sound leaves his mouth. Not even their breathing is audible.
She blinks a little in surprise. This is new. She never saw sound waves before in her own red colour and she certainly couldn’t render people silent with a wave of her hand. She happens to glance upstairs, catching a glimpse of their new doors - all of them (besides Abuela’s) are different. They are all altered. The gifts themselves have changed in some way.
Her mother retracts her hand. Though still concerned for her, she can’t help but look scared as she watches Isabela and Camilo. Like everyone else, she is horrified and wants answers. “What have you—”
“Give me silence,” she seethes, cutting her mother off, just as she did Isabela and Camilo. “If you can’t think before you speak, then I’ll make you quiet.”
Everyone around them is stunned.
The townspeople immediately go back the way they came, not wanting to be court up in her wrath. She only lets them go because she is too busy taking in her new found abilities, watching as Camilo still tries to make noise in vain and Isabela turns to Tía Julieta for some kind of healing.
“Mija, does it hurt or feel—” the healer tries to whisper to her eldest, but is obviously heard and immediately loses the ability of speech.
Antonio cries out in her father’s arms for their family, he does too - desperately trying to calm her. She doesn’t even look their way as she silences them, and the animals scattered around.
Tío Bruno and Agustín both try and fail to reach her. “Sobrina, you need to—” she isn’t sure which one tried to talk to her, but it doesn’t matter. She forced them to be quiet all the same.
“I don’t want to hear it!” She snaps. Then addressing the family, in realisation: “You can muzzle yourselves or I’ll do it for you.”
Luisa opens her mouth to argue - Dolores hears her click the tongue and is ready to stop her voice before it comes. However, Mirabel beats her to it. Grabbing at Luisa’s hand and tugging her back in line without saying a word, or as best as a small girl can tug someone of Luisa’s height and strength back.
She rolls her eyes at the display, but at least someone can put two and two together in this town (besides herself) and shut up. Besides, she doesn’t know the full extent of these abilities yet. Is there a time limit? Can she undo it? How many people can she silence in any given time?
This new power is a real blessing. She’ll finally be free from that curse the candle plagued her with and rule the quiet.

HELLO IT IS I. I'm sorry for being gone so long but I had an issue with my Google docs and everything I had written kinda got deleted.... And I kind of couldn't find where I left off with the whole rebirth of a miracle Au soooo I had no idea what to do next for it but after thinking about it I have decided that won't stop me and I WILL continue it. sorry in advance for any inconsistencies that might be in this.
*~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~*~~~~~~~*
Pov Isabela
She doesn't hate her youngest sister. She knows how she acts to her might be telling a different story but she doesn't. She's jealous of her. She can admit that, at least to herself, that she's jealous of her freedom and the fact that she isn't forced into any role (but is that really true? With how she's forced into the background, isn't that a role of some kind?) She knows she shouldn't act the way she does, it's not fair to Mirabel but she can't help it, besides she can make up for it all later. So when she was awoken this morning by her father and not her youngest sister she felt an intense amount of dread pool into her stomach.
Which only got worse when she got to the table to see that, besides her mother and Mirabel, everyone is already there. The feeling of panic starts to build inside of her as she takes her seat. Something happened. She knows that Mirabel would never skip waking them up, it's one of the many little jobs that she's assigned to herself and she has never, not once, been late doing them let alone not doing one of them.
She tries to keep herself calm as she looks around the table at everyone, trying to see if one of them knows what might have happened but all she sees is her own fear and slight panic reflected back at her. Poor Luisa is looking around the entire area, eyes desperately searching, she looks like she's on the verge of tears. Tia Pepa is raining slightly and the wind of her panic is noticeable she's running her hands through her braid and is repeating her mantra over and over again all while her Tio Felix tries to keep her calm, Isabela doesn't think it's working but shes not going to point that out right now. Camilo and Antonio have identical confused and scared expressions on their faces it would be funny in a different circumstance. Dolores just looks.... Confused.... That makes Isabela calm slightly because if Dolores is just confused, then maybe they're all just overreacting, maybe last night was just a bit much for Mirabel and mama is with her to make her feel better.
Yes that has to be it! Her youngest sister isn't gone, she hasn't disappeared, nothing has changed, nothing has happened, she's just in the nursery with Mama. She takes a breath of relief feeling a little silly for thinking that Mirabel would... That's she.... Yes she was being silly.
The sound of abuela clearing her throat snaps her out of her thoughts, everyone's eyes snap to abuela waiting to hear what she has to say. It's when she looks at abuela that the little amount of relief that she gained disappears entirely. The look on Abuela's face is not one she has ever seen on her before (or maybe she has...maybe it's been 10 years since she's seen it and she just doesn't remember) before she can get too lost in her thoughts her abuela speaks
"Buenos dias mi familia." Abuela pauses as they all greet her back before taking a deep breath "As you all can see Mirabel and julieta are not at the table right now, they're in the nursery at the moment because .... sometime during the night Casita decided to.... Turn Mirable into a baby." Chaos erupts as she finishes speaking. Absolute chaos.
The storm is intense and forms immediately, animals are running around screeching and breaking everything they see, Camilo's form changes from changing into all kinds of Mirables. Dolores is sitting at her seat hands on her head over her ears squeaking repeatedly. Luisa is sobbing loudly and with her full body. Plants of any and all kinds erupt all around her, not that she notices.
Because what? What did abuela just say? No, no way. There is no way. Before she even knows it she's running to the nursery barely registering the yell that follows her, kind of sounds like abuela. She can't stop herself, she has to see because there's no way. No way in hell. She can hear feet following her and by the way that the ground shakes she knows immediately who it is, Luisa.
She reaches the nursery door and slams into it with her whole body, putting way too much force behind it, and almost rips the door off the hinges as she accidentally breaks it down, she falls forward landing hard on her front. The sound of a wailing baby reaches her ears and She scrambles to get up.
Sitting in a rocking chair in the corner of the room right next to the window is her mama. And cradled in her arms is a wailing baby, a frighteningly familiar wailing baby, the memories might be faded but she remembers what her youngest sister looks like as a baby, she'd been one of the first people to meet her, something that she used to tease everyone else with.
No, no please no. This can't be happening. It's a nightmare. It must be. It HAS to be. She wants to wake up now. Please let her wake up now. If she does wake up right now, no matter what time it is she'll go to the REAL Mirable and tell her how sorry she is. For everything. She'll get down on her knees and beg for forgiveness for being such a terrible sister, something she should have done a long time ago. Please please let this not be real.
She feels a hand on her shoulder and jerks away from it taking a step forward towards her Mama and the wailing nightmare baby only for the hand to come back and pull her backwards she turns to see who it is and comes face to face with her papa. He shakes his head at her and mouths 'not yet' pulling her backwards again, pulling her out of the room and into the hallway she struggles against him needing to go to her mama. She sees Luisa in the corner of her eye standing to the side of the doorway looking into the room tears streaming down her face nonstop. That causes her to stop her struggle.
Her papa guides her further down the hallway, grabbing Luisa's arm gently as they pass her to get her to follow him as well. She barely registers any of that her thoughts consumed by one thing.
She'll never be able to make up for what shes done.
IMG HIIII NICE TO SEE YOU <3333 no worries. Google Docs is a writers biggest op sometimes, I get it 💀💀 ALSO I NEED TO RELABEL ALL OF YOUR SNIPPETS SO THEY’RE EASIER TO FIND I KEEP FORGETTING I’M SORRY <\\\\3
Regardless. This is so radical. I mean home girl woke up,and found out bout what? 10 minutes later? That her youngest sister was a baby. AND SHE SAW IT FIRST FOR HERSELF 🫣 But at least she was remorseful?? Took all that but hey, it worked. Baby steps people, baby steps (pun entirely intended).
Thank God Agustín was there, cause with the way Mirabel reacted to Alma, God knows how she woulda reacted to Isabela 🌚
Tumblr media
How do react to that 😮‍💨 and never say never‼️‼️‼️ clwarly they were given another chance fora reason, but maybe she’s too in shock to realize that 🤠

Going in circles
Luisa was never scared. Worried, yes. She was worried that somebody could get hurt, she was thinking of any way she could keep everyone safe. Panic buried inside her heart wasn't something new for her. But not afraid. Never before. Not like this. History repeating itself after all
Pedro and Alma swap
It was loud. The sound of cracking plaster was beating in a deathly melody. Walls crumbled under the pressure. The world spun in merciless cracks that ran along the walls at enormous speed. Roof tiles crushed against the floor. The weak light of the now almost-destroyed candle disappeared in breaking darkness. A disgusting melody of demise lay upon them. Like an announcement of the king's arrival.
Luisa was never scared. Worried, yes. She was worried that somebody could get hurt, she was thinking of any way she could keep everyone safe. Panic buried inside her heart wasn't something new for her. But not afraid. Never before. Not like this.
Don't panic, it's fine
Now her core couldn't stop beating in tact of the tune. For years she was learning to get rid of any danger, swing her sword, or be a living shield for her family. But she never learned what to do when her house was breaking in front of her eyes. It wasn't something she ever considered until yesterday.  She rushed to the wall, trying to push the cracks back; she had to. The stairs broke next to her. The railing forced itself out, making Luisa startle. She rushed, just in time to catch Camilo. There were screams, but her mind felt too foggy, too scared that something could happen. The entire world was going round. Her lungs were filled with rubble. The extinct doors flew off their hinges. There was no way to stop this. The melody proceeded too far and there was no way to play the record back.
Her voice was raspy, hard from the feeling that she desperately tried to keep in check. "We have to get out!"
Stay calm. Stay calm. Stay fucking calm.
"It's not safe in here!" That's what her job was, she kept everything on track when Abuelo could interfere.
Pedro gasped, turning his attention to Luisa in shock. Luisa stared at him for a wink, before the snapping sound drew her attention. Another beat to the melody. Isabela. Catching her wasn't any harder than Camilo. The fallen-out beams hung in the air before the damage had spread to the wood. Sounds were mixing inside Luisa's head. They turned into a rubbish mix.
Casita waved its tiles ruthlessly, pushing them out of this collapsing hell. Luisa's stomach twisted from horror. The air whipped her exhausted muscles, sending her to fly for a brief second.
"Is everyone okay?" Luisa's words were heavy on her tongue, she jumped on her feet. They had to be safe they all...
WHERE'S MIRABEL?
Luisa's throat got tied into a knot, she counted in desperation. One missing. Why didn't she catch it before? It's just that everything was whirling too fast, too many things occurred at once. Her ears didn't stop pounding from the terrifying choir of destroying Casita that she was forced to listen to.
That's when she noticed that everyone kept staring inside the tomb in which their house turned. Mirabel was climbing to Abuelo's window. What was she thinking? It was dangerous! This wasn't some wild beast or a bad man with a saber, but it wasn't safe. Nothing was safe and Luisa learnt it a long time ago.
Luisa's internal reaction was to run back, drag Mirabel out. It was what she was supposed to do. Her role. This whole idea of 'You don't have to protect me all the time' was stupid. Her strength was for this, her training was for this.
Two arms wrapped around her wrists in a desperate attempt to stop her. Large enough. Papa, her brain realized on the edge of her consciousness. "Luisa, what are you doing?" He breathed out in panic, trying to hold her back.
Even without her gift, Luisa was way stronger than her lanky dad. It didn't take another second for her to push herself out of his grip. On the back of her mind, she could the rest of her family, those who were protected now, screaming Mirabel's name. Like another part of the ensemble. A broken chorus.
With another breaking sound, the main door was blocked by the debris.  Luisa's heart stopped. No, no! Her eyes ran around in a terrified attempt to find another way inside. There was no use, The destruction didn't touch the outside barriers.
Her fingers stuck into small gaps between the broken rays, trying to push them away, her hard tensed from the effort. She must get in, it was her purpose. Her entire life was based on keeping everyone safe. Mirabel was wrong, she couldn't just relax and let everyone on their own. Luisa got up, pushing the walls, trying to crack them, to break into the crashing house.  Her sword clanged against the crumbling place.
Was it what Abuelo had told her about? She panicked. She wasn't thinking at the moment. And now Mirabel was on the top of the crashing roof. Cracks ran up, getting into Bruno's tower. The superstructure looked bad, frail, and unsteady, just like the entire Casita.
Don't panic, please, do not panic.
What if Mirabel would pass away? She wouldn't climb out of there alive, Luisa couldn't think of a way how Mirabel would avoid being turned into a smashed arepa.
Luisa didn't want this. The idea of losing Mirabel, losing anyone, was beyond horror. The crumbs were falling from Bruno's tower as Mirabel was trying to reach the burned-out candle.
"Get out of here!" Luisa yelled into the thick air. She didn't know why. It was too late now. "Get out! It's not up to discussion!" She wasn't of what was cracking more: Casita or her voice. "Please, get out!"
She hit the wall again, more out of desperation. Her teeth grinded at repeated sounds. The fear of the fact that Mirabel could be a lifeless corpse the next time Luisa would get to see her was terrifying. Abuelo was right. Luisa should've been better. She couldn't stand the thought that her hermanita would join Abuela Alma.
History repeating itself after all.

El lugar sin límites (Julieta x Fem!Reader) part 2
Tumblr media
Part 1 - next
_________________
Julieta sighed as her internal clock told her to get up. Dolores' room had no windows, but she knew that the sun hadn't even risen yet, she had always gotten up in the early morning since she got her gift. But she really didn't want to get up, she was emotionally exhausted, and she didn't have the strength to face yet another day when Agustín would happily ignore how much he was hurting his family. And she definitely didn't want to have to make an extra plate for the blonde she knew was going to come for breakfast.
She clung to the warm bundle in her arms, enjoying the way Dolores instinctively hid her face in her neck. It had been years since she had slept with her niece, years since the last time she had held her in this way, it pleasantly reminded her that in her heart she was, in fact, another of her daughters. The brunette didn't want to be conceited, but since she was a baby, Dolores seemed to prefer her aunt's arms to her mother's, something Camilo later inherited and for a brief time Antonio (although she was quickly replaced by Mirabel in his case). She liked to think that she and Pepa shared the guardianship of all the children and it was a tacit agreement that, if something happened to her or her sister, the other would take care of their children as if they were their own. Something that she really took seriously, that's why she pampered her nephews so much.
She would never admit it out loud, but despite the close relationship she had with Camilo, Dolores had always been her favorite. Isabela had grown up too fast in her opinion and had always been closer to her grandmother than to her, but her precious Lola had been hers. The girl used to follow her everywhere, holding on to her hand or her apron in case she was busy, when she had a problem, she would look for her and it was her bed that the girl would sneak into when she was scared at night. She didn’t doubt that Dolores loved her mother with all her soul, but no one was going to deny that she had been Julieta's all her childhood.
Even after receiving her gift (or perhaps, especially after that), the girl continued to seek the warmth and comfort that she knew only her aunt could give her. Dolores said it was because her heartbeat was always calm and she could focus on it when her gift became too much, and it was something the young woman held to this day. Not that Julieta cared, her niece-daughter knew that she would always be there for her.
And she was beginning to think it was mutual.
Of her four daughters, Dolores was the one who was helping her the most in these difficult times for her heart. It's not that Isabela and Mirabel failed to make her feel better with their compliments, or that Luisa's tight hugs gave her no comfort, it was that Dolores was the only one who took the time to really listen to her without interrupting or trying to tell her how to handle this business. The girl had learned to read her so well that sometimes Julieta didn't even have to say anything for her niece to be by her side, putting a hand on hers or giving her a quick hug.
"You are a treasure, Lolita" she whispered, giving her a soft kiss on the forehead.
However, time was running out on her and she knew she had to get up if she didn't want to fall further behind. She carefully disentangled herself from the embrace in which both had fallen during the night and with the dexterity of a mother she managed to get up without disturbing her niece's sleep.
"Well, showtime" she thought, tying her hair back into her usual bun as she headed down the stairs.
For a moment she thought about going back to her room to change her clothes, but just imagining Agustín waking up while she did it sent a shiver down her spine, and not in a good way. It had been months since they had shared a bed in the most carnal and passionate sense of the word. It wasn't that he didn't try, because God knew that if it were up to him, the two of them would have had many more children, but Julieta was never in the mood. She just didn't feel like having his hands or eyes run over her body anymore.
“Focus” she reminded herself mentally. There was no use thinking about such things when she had a long day ahead of her.
However, she froze at the kitchen door when she saw you, moving as if the place belonged to you, while Casita pushed ingredients towards you or removed some others. You were wearing, as far as she could see, a simple dress that reached just above your knees, your hair was down with only a big red bow to adorn it, and she really didn't want to think about how much your steely calves were calling her out.
"Oh, good morning" you said kindly when you noticed her
Turning around, she was able to observe you better and verify that no, yesterday had not been a dream or a first meeting impact, you really had an impressive beauty, although you didn't carry that haughty air that had made everyone nervous, you seemed so much warmer and more relaxed. But your eyes were still full of indescribable pain.
"Good morning" she answered awkwardly.
The brunette didn't really know what to do, especially when you gave her a friendly smile that immediately made her legs weak, but she had to mentally remind herself that this was her kitchen, that it had been her territory for years, and that she shouldn't be acting like a schoolgirl around her first crush.
"What are you doing awake so early?" she asked you, walking over to see what you were doing.
“Miguel and Abel leave in an hour” you said without stopping moving the eggs “I just wanted to make sure they had something for breakfast and a good lunch for the road. Your…house was very kind to lend me the kitchen, I hope you don't mind”
Julieta blinked a little. She had expected her mother to ask her to do just that, she hadn't expected you to get ahead of her…or so soon.
"Are they going so fast?" she asked
“It's a long trip” you explained “I don't want the night to catch up with them when Atila and Asena aren't there to protect them”
The brunette couldn't help but smile a little. You seemed genuinely concerned about the lives of two men who were not related to you by blood. One would think that someone who came from a family like yours (going by what Carmen's letter said) would not care about the welfare of their employees. A cruel thought perhaps, but Julieta had known cruelty practically since she was born and had grown up surrounded by people used to demanding more than she or her siblings could give them.
“You care about them” she said softly, standing next to you. It wasn't a question but you still answered
“They are human beings, regardless of their rank in my mother's house. Besides, they're my friends."
The older woman smiled at you, surprised by this kind and warm side that she didn't expect from you. Honestly, though, you had been breaking every single preconception she had of you from the moment you showed up riding Cuervo.
"Then we have to hurry" she told you "the sun will rise soon"
You turned to her to tell her it wasn't necessary, that she could go back to bed, but the words died on your lips as she donned an aquamarine apron and the tight ribbon around her waist revealed curves you hadn't noticed the day before when you met her and they quickly left your mind blank.
She stood next to you and began to cut the tomatoes and other vegetables without saying anything. You resumed your movements to avoid burning something, but you couldn't help but steal glances at the person who was becoming the most interesting thing in this place and it was only your second day here.
___________________________
“Remember not to take the path to the left, it is better to go around the river” you said, waving goodbye to Miguel and Abel.
You, Julieta, Atila, and Asena watched in silence as the two figures disappeared over the horizon. The brunette still couldn't catch up with you. Yesterday you seemed like a force of nature even stronger than her sister and today she had come across a selfless and tender woman whose humility surprised her.
Not only had you prepared breakfast and lunch for your friends, but you had even gone to the trouble of preparing something for her as well, despite all her attempts to tell you that it was not necessary.
“Come on, we can't leave them eating breakfast alone. It's just an egg, something light, we'll eat later with your family” you had said, as you took her by the hand and led her outside, to the improvised table they had made with a couple of boards and some rocks.
She had to admit that she had never enjoyed breakfast as much as this. You, Miguel, and Abel had an almost brotherly dynamic, where you would joke around and get slightly annoyed, although they kept calling you “my lady” much to your annoyance. There was none of the normalcy and formality of eating at a proper table, but the cool morning breeze gave it an air of freedom that made her feel years younger.
She was also deeply grateful for the natural way in which you included her in your discussion. You did not treat her as if she were a foreigner in your circle, as an unexpected guest that you had only brought for politeness, no, you really made her feel welcome and part of that little and improvised family of yours as if you had known her for years.
"They should arrive at nightfall" you said, more to yourself than to her "if they don't get lost"
"You gave them very precise instructions to get there" she told you
"If only they knew how to follow them" you rolled your eyes, but your voice had a thread of genuine concern
"I'm sure they'll be fine"
You looked at the woman for a moment, studying the way her hands were twitching slightly in a sign of nervousness. In the hour and a half that you had spent with her cooking and having breakfast, you discovered a mature woman with the soul of a girl. She wasn't childish, but she had a homey warmth you'd never known in anyone else, one that made you want to believe her in everything.
"I hope so" you said, averting your gaze so as not to make her uncomfortable "...thank you for helping me"
"It was a pleasure"
You two smiled at each other and stared into each other's eyes, unable to move. Somehow the air felt even more charged with magic than when you entered the town as if she were the main source of the miracle. It wasn't until Atila gently nudged his head against your calf that you remembered that you were meant to be functional to society.
"Maybe we should go inside" you said
"Y-yes, of course, of course" she replied, with a nervous giggle.
You followed her silently back to the kitchen, surprised by the fact that the place was spotless. Of course, you supposed that having a living house must have its advantages.
Julieta began to take out the pots for her family's breakfast and what she would need for the arepas that she would take to town, being surprised when she noticed that you were still there, looking at her curiously. She didn't know why, but she felt her cheeks heat up as you smiled and walked toward her.
“Y-you can go back to bed” she told you softly “there are still at least two more hours before Mirabel wakes everyone up”
"I know it's a large family, but don't you think that's too many pots?" you asked, ignoring her comment
“Oh, those aren't for breakfast” she told you “they're for the town’s meal”
"The town?" you raised an eyebrow
"Yes...my gift" she said simply
Of course. Her gift. Although you had not paid much attention when Alma explained it, too busy admiring the woman in front of you, the truth was that it was not very difficult for you to put together the pieces of what your brain had managed to capture. Julieta Madrigal, a kitchen prodigy and capable of healing with food.
"When your mother said that you could heal with food, I thought she meant maybe the last pinch of salt, not all the preparation" you said
"Well, technically I could just add salt to the final product and it would work, but there's no need to bother anyone else if I'm already in the kitchen." She shrugged as if it was the obvious thing to do.
"In that case let me help"
Julieta was surprised and looked at you curiously. Although she had received many comments and compliments for her hard work cooking for an entire town every day for 45 years, this was the first time anyone had offered to help her outside of Mirabel, Bruno, and Dolores.
"There's no need-"
"Consider it a thank you for helping me" you interrupted her "Besides, I'm already in the kitchen" you winked
The older woman blushed deeply and she was sure that this time it was notorious. However, when you took the knife and started chopping the peppers, she knew you wouldn't take no for an answer, so she just nodded and prayed the butterflies in her stomach would go away soon.
__________________________
"Really? Not even white?
“I only used white for my wedding”
You smiled a little while Julieta laughed lightly, getting a little closer to you. Who knew that having someone who actually knew how to cook would help lighten the load of her chores? The brunette loved her family, but of the three people who offered to help her, only Dolores could be trusted with the stove. But with you everything was different, breakfast was ready in record time, leaving the two of you with plenty of time on your hands and a strangely intimate atmosphere.
Although you barely spoke to each other, falling into a quick and comfortable routine, moving in sync while you cooked, the truth is that neither of you could deny that there was something else, a kind of spark that seemed to threaten to become a fire every time you got close to each other.
Sometimes your hand would brush against hers, burning her skin and leaving her with a deep desire to intertwine her fingers with yours, or perhaps she would rest her hand on your hip to move you slightly out of the way, causing you to become uncomfortably aware of the area where her warmth had been.
And yet, it didn't seem unnatural. On the contrary, the two of you seemed pretty comfortable with each other's presence, and when you finished, it wasn't difficult for you to fall into a comfortable chat while Julieta prepared some coffee for you. The only thing she couldn't control was the butterflies in her stomach at the sight of you leaning casually against the counter, relaxed and beautiful.
"Well, I still think that while blue looks good on you, you would look beautiful in other colors" you said, letting out a subtle flirt in your tone.
"At my age, I don't think that's the right word" she laughed nervously
“I think that is the right word to describe you for the rest of your life”
Julieta looked at you, but you were focused on the cup in your hands, gently wiggling the spoon, as if you hadn't just made her legs go weak and her heart jump. You had said it in such a casual way as if it were the most obvious thing in life as if considering her beautiful was outlawed.
She was lost for words, but thankfully, the footsteps of her family coming down the stairs were a perfect distraction for her to sort through her increasingly confused thoughts and feelings.
As always, the first to arrive were the youngest, hurrying to take their dishes to be able to choose the best, especially Camilo. The others seemed a little surprised to see you already there, having coffee with the older woman, but they said nothing more than a cordial good morning.
However, Alma scowled at her daughter when she casually commented that you had helped cook. You could feel the brunette tense up a bit as her mother curtly thanked you before launching into an unsubtle scolding for the oldest triplet, so you decided to intervene.
“I never take the kindness of people for granted, Doña Alma” you said, trying to appear as casual as possible, although your face regained a bit of that loftiness you had shown the day before “Consider it a thank you for allowing me to live under your roof”
The older woman blinked a little, not expecting such a gesture or a sense of gratitude like yours. It was a nice change for everyone, to have someone who was willing to "pay" for the kindness they received. Unfortunately, not everyone had that sense, some people preferred to be spoiled and brazenly take more than they were entitled to.
You frowned when a disgustingly cloying voice reached your ears and you noticed how more than one flinched slightly when the same blonde from the day before entered the kitchen. She didn't even have the decency to bring anything of her own, or at least her own plate. For you, she crossed an important line when she took the plate that clearly had Julieta's name on it and sat down next to Agustín. You had no idea why you cared, you didn't know these people and you didn’t know what was going on, but just feeling the healer shift uncomfortably next to you was enough to trigger a protective instinct in you.
You smiled in the most innocent way you could and took a plate, sitting right next to the blonde, in the place that corresponded to Julieta (you were sure that the girl had done it on purpose, knowing how much her presence made the healer uncomfortable). You acted like it was an accident, moving again as if to change, but Julieta got the idea right away and assured you that it was fine, taking the seat next to you.
No one commented, but you could feel the girl's anger as you turned your back on her, focusing on the brunette and easily picking up the conversation you had with her before the rest of the family arrived. You could tell that the blonde didn't like being ignored by you and Julieta, but that only made the older woman's beaming smile all the more beautiful.
You had no idea why, but it felt like a victory.

Bruno Madrigal Mental Health/Neurodivergence Headcanons 💚
Disclaimer: yes I know the movie is about generational trauma within Latin American culture and I am taking that into account. But I also know this (like all types of trauma) effect mental health GREATLY. Bruno also shows clear ND traits whether that be Autism, ADHD, etc... And are underrepresented in Latin American communities. If you disagree that is fine! But I never intend to ignore the culture in any way. When it comes to the OCD stuff, please know that I am not trying to depict superstition and the condition as being the same thing. Someone can be superstitious and not have OCD and vise-versa. OCD is a complex condition that can become disruptive to someone’s life while a superstition is a type of belief or practice.
Another thing is that half of these will get pretty heavy in nature since trauma, OCD, depression, etc... Are real issues meant to be taken seriously. I will refrain from sharing headcanons that discuss more triggering subject matter ❤️
Alright here we go. 💚 I'll start with the I guess, lighter ones?
I cannot remember who had this first one originally but I loved it. It's basically an idea where Bruno likes tight hugs and deep pressure. So whenever he’s around people and feels overwhelmed his sisters will hug him really tight to ground him. (Over the years they’ve gotten better at recognzing his behavoiral changes since he has a hard time communicating when he’s experiencing overload or severe anxiety, even Alma has begun doing this) And of course he’ll only let specific people hug him like that. In the rare occasion that he isn’t around them in the village, he’ll either run back home or of course have his rats with him. His rats are wonderful comfort animals. Credit to the person who came up with the deep pressure idea!
Along with the deep pressure theme, Mirabel had this idea for a “cuddle blanket” (or, a weighted blanket) for Bruno. So, the grandkids banded together to help her make it, adding in something special from each of them. Isabela grew Lamb’s Ear and Mullien leaves on the outside of it to give it differing textures (those leaves are EXTREMELY soft, it’s insane). There also little pockets on the sides for his rats to climb in.
When the triplets were children, Bruno would write little messages in wet sand when he couldn’t verbalize what he needed. Pepa started doing this too when she’d give someone the silent treatment XD.
This is probably surprising to no one but Bruno has a drawer full of salt containers.
When Bruno returned, he still felt like an intruder so he would just stay in his tower. His sisters or Mirabel had to practically beg him to get out and be with the family.
He always had a fascination with hourglasses even before he got his gift, when he got his tower it came with a random array of hourglasses, one in particular would detect how much time was left until a certain prophecy was fufilled.
When the triples were younger, Bruno had a habit of tapping on of his sisters’ arm. It didn’t always mean he was nervous, it was just a soothing thing. He still does it occasionally.
Still to do this day, Bruno will occasionally bury himself in the sand of his tower.
Bruno either makes too much eye contact, or none at all. Literally, the “seeing your dreams” thing derived from him unknowingly staring at someone.
Bruno’s knowledge of theatre allowed him bond a lot with Camilo, and make him WAY less scared of him.
Sometimes in visions, Bruno will watch movies or plays that haven’t even happened yet and unintentionally spoil the details because he gets so excited. 😂
Sometimes on really bad depression days, the grandkids will play out telenovelas for him so he doesn’t have to get up and force any energy.
Speaking of depression, since Pepa knows how deep and debilitating emotions can get, she tries her best to get Bruno to vent his feelings (When you know.. he wants to and is willing). This has been a great way to rekindle their sibling relationship, and Julieta, being the nurturer that she is, she does whatever she can to comfort them. There were times where all them have started crying.
Alma has the hardest time communicating so sometimes she will just go into Bruno’s room just to be there to let him know that she cares about him.
Bruno adopted some mannerisms that resemble his rats 🐀
Alright, now for the more agnsty ones.
Bruno absolutely despises crowds, before he left, riots would ensue around him made up of angry villagers and he would just shut down, unable to react. To try and distract them, Isabela would swing around on her vine and grow vibrant flowers. Being just a young child, she said she didn’t mind doing it but Bruno hated for her to even be around when it happened, along with any of the other grandkids. They were all too young to witness angry mobs, and he didn’t know how to handle them at all.
There have been times where Bruno will be up all night sprinkling salt between the tiles of Casita and knocking on door frames.
Okay so you know how I said he has a collection of hourglasses? Yeah well one day after having an argument with Alma over the townspeople and his gift, he broke one of those hourglasses in anger. What makes matters worse is that it was the large one tied to his power. Luckily, it gradually repaired itself.
In the first few years of Bruno having his gift, he would cry whenever he had visions because he would have a really hard time processing everything that was going on, like the sights, sounds, bodily sensations, etc.. It was a lot to handle sensory wise, on top of him being a child.
On the topic of his visions being overwhelming, there were times where Bruno would cause himself to bleed from scratching his eyes so hard, luckily he hasn’t blinded himself (well... yet any way).
Sadly there are things Julieta’s food can’t heal, like Bruno’s vision headaches and the recurring bruises on his knuckles.
Bruno has a really bad habit of hitting himself in the head and puling his hair. His rats are fortunately able to prevent him from doing this by distracting him.
Bruno has a very vague idea of what he looks like because of his eisoptrophobia (or spectrophobia, fear of mirrors). He only knows from Camilo or distorted reflections in glass or porcelian. His family has been trying to help ease his anxiety with gradual success.
There are times where Bruno will be so disoriented from a vision or dream he had that he will have severe derealization for a few days. (A state of feeling detached from yourself and or your surroundings or feeling like things aren’t real).
After Pedro died, Alma became hypervigilant and grew more superstitious for a few years, so she often blames herself for Bruno’s ecessive superstitiousness and anxiety. (She blames herself for so many things...)
I might add to this?? Idk <3
