Also locally known as Camp Mindscape

C!Thomas is the newest camp director trying to keep the camp funded and running every year. He advertises and keeps in touch with people who help everything work out each year.

Logan is head of schedule and morning role call. He makes sure camp has an educational side to it, so they have something to take away. He enjoys accompanying on the nature hikes and takes their slightly older campers stargazing. You can find him usually hanging out in the camp archives and he can answer any question about its history.

He coordinates camper activities with Patton, who is the poster child for Campy Dad-Counselor™️. Patton knows every campfire song ever how to make 477 different crafts from sticks and rocks you can find in the forest. He is good at wrangling the kids and making any activity fun so everyone gets included. He’s excited to be there every day. He’s been there the longest and has dappled in every other job as needed.

Remus runs all the sport activities and Roman throws together a little theater group production for the parents at the end of the summer. Both twins help each other out for those activities depending on whose day it is. They also keep up the Canteen and craft workshop. They tell the best campfire stories. (Fun fact: they went to this camp as kids and are working here now during college)

Virgil’s shadowing Patton with first aid as a trainee nurse and handles safety protocols/checks. He’s just stressed out trying to keep everyone alive till the end of the summer. He particularly sticks around at the sport fields, lake, and obstacle course. He barely sleeps and runs on caffeine and spite. He enjoys playing guitar for the kids at campfire time. He makes sure everyone wears sunscreen, is drinking enough water, and that no one wanders off from the group.

And not least of all, Janus, who is the mental health counselor and resolves incident cases between campers. He also is someone the other camp counselors can confide in because the job is draining. He makes sure everyone is taking care of themselves and not doing too much, short-staffed as they are. Camp has run much more smoothly since they added him to their team and everyone is happier for it after getting used to the changes.

They all really enjoy the work and each other. What started as an interesting, versatile summer job that let them hangout together turned into a fun tradition they were quite invested in. Every summer is a memorable one and they look forward to it every year.

I just think it’d be a fun story setting, a series of glimpses at camp life with chapters dedicated to silly or fun happenings at the camp. For some reason all that are coming to me is chapters that sound like history event logs and just imagine it’s because the twins hijacked Logan’s documentation of them and rewrote them with more flair and drama. The Hiking Disaster of 21’. Battle at…Vine Lake (okay maybe not the name but I WILL work Vine in somewhere—maybe that’s the name of the theatre). The Kayak Wars. Surviving the Storm. Bear-ly Active.

(Actually half the chapters will be puns and you’ll know Patton had a hand at assisting the twins’ shenanigans for those retellings~)

Depending on the number of campers, they might also each be head of a cabin and in charge of 3-5 campers specifically on top of everything else that they manage to make good connections with even the most unlikely campers by the end of the summer. (I mostly thought of this just because I wanted an excuse for Logan to be head of the ‘Crofters Cabin’ bwahahaha)

Side notes expanding on the AU bc I have tons of scattered ideas:

I also had the alternative (/prequel? With a few tweaks) idea where some or all of them are campers instead and they meet at the summer camp years before they decide to work there~ ^^

I think that’d be a great story too, where they become lifelong friends in the end and grow to be glad they got sent to this weird old camp for the summer and just have a great time after getting through a few challenges. And they go back every year to see each other again.

Patton calls the campers “saplings” and other nature/tree related nicknames

Their camp shirts have a white star border in black incorporated on the front with the Camp Acronym and everyone styles theirs differently (example: Remus cut the short sleeves off of his)

I imagine they have a rival camp too that every one of them is personally invested in beating yearly, as you do in Camp media. (Alt version where it’s “light” vs “dark” sides camps)

Logan got stuck up a tree once as a kid camper and they still haven’t let him live it down. There’s a photo of it in the archives he keeps trying to get rid of but someone keeps replacing it every year. They call him Pinecone and Lookout 🤣 (Forest Watch)

Janus was someone they never expected to see again. He came to camp in their last years of being campers and joined the group through Remus and Patton. After some getting used to him (Roman and Virgil kept butting heads with him), they were tentatively friends…Roman saved him when he fell in the lake and Janus came in clutch and saved their team at the camp games! they kinda took one step back when he joined as counselor, but they worked it out eventually for good that time~

The twins have a fun rivalry they try to drag their friends into every year…even as counselors now 😂 there’s always some sort of competition going on with them, especially when they start being heads of their own cabins and take pride in their little campers destroying the other teams (but especially each others’)

I think each cabin has a little flag the campers remake every year hanging out front, featuring the animal trait and color of each counselor in charge. Tentative Ideas:

Logan’s Cabin: Team Crofter (of Discovery Cabin). Campers have dark blue bandannas/necklaces

Patton’s Cabin: Team Friendship (of Amity/Compassion Cabin). Campers have light blue bandannas/bracelets

Roman’s Cabin: Team Braveheart (of Ambition Cabin). Campers have red bandannas/necklaces

Remus’s Cabin: Team Chaos (of Endeavor/Spontaneity Cabin). Campers have green bandannas/bracelets

Virgil’s Cabin: Team Storm (of Vigilance Cabin). Campers have purple bandannas/necklaces

Janus’s Cabin: Team Serpent (of Accord/Cunning Cabin). Campers have yellow bandannas/bracelets

They collabed on these name ideas themselves~ The twins’ cabins also relate to one another.

Roman’s theme is having goals and dreams and Remus’s theme is trying ways to reach them, not giving up when it doesn’t work the first time. Together they encourage campers to find something they wanna try that’s new and going for it~

You can probably pair Virgil and Logan’s cabins + Janus and Patton’s in a similar way of their themes relating or balancing each other.

Every year you return to camp, you get a charm to add to your bracelet/necklace (typically all moved to whatever cabin color you are for the current year’s summer). Represents the overall theme of that summer, received at the end.

Headcanons for the Camp Counselor AU with Steddie because I adore that au for some random reason:

-Eddie stays up all night, or as long as he can till Steve tells him to go to sleep

-Most of the times when Eddie stays up, he'll sneak over to the girls cabins and have a little girls night with them. He'll let them do his makeup while they gossip about the boys or their outside lives

-Eddie will also team up with the girls and help them with pranking the boys in the middle of the night

-Because Eddie stays up all night, he always sleeps in, leaving Steve with the kids in the morning

-If Eddie sleeps in too long or it's a big activity day, Steve will blow his whistle to wake him up

-Even though they're both camp counselors and don't have to follow all of the rules that the kids do, Steve will still follow most of them from time to time while Eddie breaks some of the rules

-Eddie follows Steve around like a puppy

-Steve is really kind to the kids from time to time when Eddie isn’t around, cause he doesn't need Eddie making fun of him about it (which he probably won't, only when he first catches him)

-Steve is clearly the strict mom (with a sweet side) while Eddie is the cool dad

-Eddie likes to bring the kids with him when he pranks Steve. Once they're caught, they all run away laughing while Steve yells at them with marker on his face and a shaking fist up in the air

-They hold trivia games on Thursday. Steve asks the questions while Eddie gives the kids candy, even if they get the answer wrong

-If a kid gets hurt, Steve goes into a bit of a panic mode and quickly goes to grab the first-aid kit while Eddie stays with the kid and tries to make them laugh

-They both ask the kids their preferred names and pronouns, but make sure to use their birth names and pronouns around their parents so that nothing goes bad

-Steve goes by "Mama Bear"

-When they swim at the lake with the kids, Steve is usually the lifeguard while Eddie plays with the kids

-Both of them get their nails painted by the girls

-They have a whole bin of nerf guns for the boys and have weekly epic battles

-Every Saturday is movie night. They pull out the projector, get snacks for the kids, and mostly watch Disney movies. Steve and Eddie have gotten caught multiple times cuddling while asleep by the kids when the movie is over

-The girls are always trying to get Steve and Eddie together, making mischievous plans and tricks to get them to be around each other more (They clearly both like each other but haven't talked about it)

-Water balloon and water gun fights are serious battles to not just the kids but also Steve and Eddie

-Karoke nights are the best. Glowsticks and dance lights are thrown in. Eddie usually doesn't sing but he always plays his guitar. We all know Steve sings "Old Time Rock N Roll" more than once

-Arts and Crafts are forever supervised by Steve after he walked in on Eddie and the kids with paint all over themselves and everywhere

-They have puppet shows every Wednesday. All the puppets and scripts are made by the kids while Steve and Eddie have to perform them (sometimes along with some of the kids). One time, they had to do a romantic one that one of the girls wrote and after finishing a scene, they went to go to the next scene, but the girl that wrote it yelled "Wait! You forgot to make them kiss!" which made the kids all laugh. Of course they did it, with Steve giving an annoyed huff while Eddie chuckled, and all of the kids collectively said "Ew!" then burst into giggles

-When the kids have to leave, Steve gets a little emotional, and even though Eddie laughs at him a bit for it, he too gets sad to see his kids go

-They have all of the drawings the kids have made hung up in the Arts and Crafts room while the gifts made specifically for them are set up in their counselor cabin. They also have a couple of drawings the kids have made of the both of them hung up on their walls

-There is a certain huge tree that is known all throughout the camp that has every kids names carved into it that has ever went there. Eddie and Steve carve their names out annually, marking the year next to it everytime

Snippet Sunday - “Fever Dream High in the Quiet of the Night”

The following snippet is for one of my unposted WIPs that I will be sharing to AO3 soon! Here’s the mood board as well to hint what it’s about! Enjoy!

She turns the radio down and rolls her eyes at him when she hears his dramatic disapproving groan. Then she extends her arm towards him and gives his shoulder a small shove. “Since when is listening to Beyoncé more important than talking to your best friend?”

Jackson laughs as he does his best to avoid her, hunching up his shoulders and scooting over to the point where he’s pressed up against his window. He points an accusing finger at her while his eyes fight between her and the road. “First off, never assault a driver. And second, the answer to that question is more often than I’ll admit to because I don’t want you to become any more violent.” 

“Wow, nice to know where I stand in the ranks.” She deadpans. One of the many things she loves about their friendship is their back and forth banter with each other. She’s never met anyone who can serve her the way Jackson does. 

“Now, what did you want to talk about? I mean, we already covered the heartbreaking fact that it’s our last summer together and we won’t see each other for years, so what did we forget?”

She shrugs her shoulders, doing her best to keep the giggle that’s forcing its way from the pit of her stomach, “I just wanted to say thanks for letting me ride with you.”

Jackson goes silent for a moment and then flicks his blinker on, checking behind him before he pulls over to the side of the gravel road. Then he puts the car into park and looks at her like she’s just told him the most damning confession a human could make. 

He takes in a deep breath, and his apparent annoyance with her is making it more difficult for her to keep herself from breaking into a fit of laughs. “We are driving into the woods, Lucy, and the last thing we need is your car dying and getting stranded. I’m saving your life.” He mutters the last sentence because he clearly wants to do the exact opposite of that right now. 

“Don’t speak about my baby like that! She happens to hold many of our dearest memories!” Lucy defends her beloved property. 

Jackson shakes his head as he puts his car back into drive and gets back on the road. “Good, now you’re as offended as I feel. I can’t believe you silenced the queen just for that. Sometimes I am appalled to be best friends with you.” 

“You love me.” Lucy states. 

The corner of Jackson’s mouth twitches as if he’s contemplating his response. “Most days.”

When Lucy lets out a sigh and reaches forward again to turn the volume back up, Jackson changes his answer to, “everyday.”

✦ the first day, you’re so nervous you almost get physically ill, but then you see Callum, and all your nerves about counseling a bunch of tweens go away

✦ Callum smiles at you and compliments your ballcap, which has your favorite baseball team emblem on it 

✦ the first time the kids go swimming in the pool at the campgrounds, you warn them and the other counselors about sunscreen. it was nearing 100 F, so the sun was merciless. they all listen except Callum of course, who brushes you off despite his obviously fair skin

✦ he ends up looking like a lobster and is viciously ill that night, skipping dinner. you look after him and get to know him better. he tells you about how he used to burn as a kid and it was never this bad. you laugh at that and point out that he should’ve learned his lesson back then, to which he agrees with a sigh

✦ the camp lasts all summer, so you made sure to bring literally everything you could possibly need- like bug spray. you brought plenty for you and the kids in case they needed it

✦ it’s hiking day, and everyone applies the bug spray except, of course, Callum. he ends up with bug bites everywhere visible on his body that evening. you tell all the kids in your group to point and laugh at him when he enters the mess hall for dinner. Callum rolls his eyes, scratching at his arm. all the kids yell at him to stop or he’d scar

✦ karaoke by the campfire night is fun and games until Callum breaks out the guitar and blows everyone away with his talent. everyone applauds him, and your crush only worsens when he looks at no one but you the whole time.

✦ Callum freaks out when one of the boys in his group has peanut butter as a dare during mess hall when he’s allergic to peanuts. like full on panicking and nearly crying and you have to calm him down

✦ painting class where Callum decides to poke your cheek playfully and you have no idea he had paint on it until much later 

✦ then there’s that night at the lake. after that, you both grow closer. you sneak kisses when others aren’t looking and sometimes meet at the dock for a cigarette in the middle of the night. you hate the smell of cigarettes but they remind you of Callum now

✦ there’s a night where the head counselor rallies the kids to bed a little earlier so all the counselors can have an adult gathering. controlled, of course. wine coolers and such- nothing too hard. but Callum takes it too far as always. he gets handy with you and you have to scold him so no one figures the two of you out

✦ Callum singing the Campfire Song from SpongeBob at a bonfire one night, and none of the kids know where it’s from, but you and the other counselors sing it at the top of your lungs 

✦ you and Callum patching up a kid who fell and skinned their knees and scolding them gently for running when not necessary 

✦ Callum makes you something in pottery class, and you almost cry at the thought of him making you something. no boy- or man, rather, had done anything like that for you

✦ you definitely exchange numbers and stuff for after camp and agree to meet up and hang out before both of your college campuses start classes back up

✦ you and Callum work together to remove a series of stingers from the same boy who ate peanut butter while allergic because he was dared to touch a beehive on a hike

✦ you end up hurting your ankle on one of the hiking days, and Callum helps nurse it with ice and elevation in your room while everyone else you bunk with is away

✦ Callum confesses he really likes you and obviously didn’t want that one night to be a one-time thing. he asks you if you’d like to be his after you leave camp, and you say yes (obviously)

✦ Callum playfully makes fun of you for crying when the kids start leaving to go home, but then he also starts tearing up
