Lisa Frankenstein
My partner and I saw this movie tonight and, honestly, it's really good!
It has that Rocky Horror Picture Show / Edward Scissorhands feel in an 80s setting. I don't think it was advertised nearly well enough, but at the same time, I'm glad the marketing didn't shove it down everyone's throats.
Both Newton and Sprouse did a phenomenal acting job. Their body language and expressions, especially Newton's, were amazing. Sprouse's acting is also really great, but in a totally different way from Newton's. I just loved watching them move and emote. Sprouse doesn't speak much, which plays into Newton's character's newfound verbosity really nicely.
Campy, unabashedly suggestive at times, and monsterfuckery too. Also tons of great little easter eggs that tie it back into Frankenstein and horror in general.

Malignant (2021)
Madison is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities.
Where to watch: Netflix/Max
Rating: 8.75/10
THIS WAS SUCH A FUN MOVIE! Oh my God!
(Did I spend a good chunk of the opening going “So he’s Billy Hope”? Yes. Was that a bad thing? No!)
The movie has a strange, frenetic quality to it especially in the transitions. My watching companion and I were like: “?!?!!?!” The whole time. Like these were some video game level transitions. But it was a fuckin DELIGHT.
It’s a campy movie with some really fun ideas, some excellent visuals, a fun monster, and some whacky Kingsman-level violence.
It’s not a deep movie. It’s not a compelling movie. But GODDAMN if it wasn’t a fun time.
If you like Army of Darkness, you’re gonna like this one I think.

Currently on an old horror movie binge, it's going great
I just finished up 'The Craft,' and I'm currently watching 'The Brood,'
Up next on my list is 'The Fly,' and then maybe 'Eraser Head' after that.
Mention of blood and movie violence under the cut
Horror movies from the 70s are so funny though due to the practical effects and "bad" acting (by today's standards anyway, I still love older styles of acting). I just watched a scene of a woman getting "beat" with a hammer, only you could tell they were hitting her as gently as possible as to not actually hurt the actress, but then it would cut to really aggressive scenes of blood splatter, it was almost comical.
I think that's what I like about older movies, like you know back then that scene probably was seen as graphic and terrifying, but watching it today it's just campy and goofy, but still enjoyable.
I actually really love movies that used practical effects rather than CGI (dont get me wrong, I also love horror movies that use CGI to make the ghost or monster more realistic) but practical effects give it almost a nostalgic feel, a more "physical" or "tangible" feeling. I can't really explain it that well, but I hope what I'm saying is still understandable lol.
If anyone else has any horror movie recommendations (preferably without s-xual assault or animal abuse) then feel free to let me know :)
