Hello everyone, big news! After much deliberation me and my dear partner have decided that the current timeline is simply too bloated. There is too much fat so we have decided to streamline it a bit by trimming said fat. That way we get to the main story a lot quicker. Please note that as a result of these changes, certain posts related to the previous Unforeseen will be labeled as outdated!
Unforeseen Timeline (Revised)
Once Upon A Time In The Wild West
1856 (Birth)
Pedro Madrigal and Alma cross paths in the American West. Pedro, a bottom-feeding bandit, and Alma, a painted lady (prostitute), are both Colombian immigrants who have found themselves in difficult positions. They marry and have three children: Julieta, Pepa, and Bruno.
Soon after their children are born, Pedro goes on a heist with his gang—which he betrays—stealing the loot to give his new family a better life. In the hopes of evading reprisal, the Madrigals move towards Mexico. They join a group of travelers who are also attempting to cross the border. However, as they cross the Rio Grande River, Pedro's former gang members follow and attack them. Pedro makes the ultimate sacrifice to give the party ample time to depart. His death and Alma's anguish imbue the Miracle Candle with magic, repelling the intruders before building Encanto, a mystical haven reminiscent of their home country of Colombia bordered by high mountains.
Alma is left with a strong urge to safeguard their magic above everything else in the aftermath of Pedro's death.
1861 (Age 5)
Julieta, Pepa, and Bruno are given wonderful gifts from the Miracle Candle when they reach the age of five. Bruno's gift of foresight is revealed when he has a vision of an evil figure appearing in their home years in the future.
Alma instills in her children the importance of using their Gifts for the community. But, while Julieta and Pepa are adored and appreciated, Bruno is gradually vilified and scapegoated.
Small families have found their way to Encanto throughout time. It's an occurrence that no one can explain. They claim to have been guided there by golden butterflies. The residents of Encanto, on the other hand, come to accept these newcomers because they, too, are looking for a safe haven to live away from the cruelty and anarchy of the Wild West. Alma feels the magic is responsible, and while they may not understand it, they should have faith in it.
Beginning (and End) of El Ojos Diablos
1871-1877 (Age 15-21)
By the age of 15, the triplets' responsibilities considerably increase. The locals continue to dread and detest Bruno for his Gift, blaming their misfortunes on him rather than doing anything to change or prepare for it. He also struggles to live up to Alma's expectations of him. Expectations based on his mother's idealized recollection of Pedro. She hasn't told her children about the more shameful details of their lives before Encanto.
In an attempt to assist her son, Alma requests that he perform a vision for their Familia. This attempt fails when all it reveals is a future of destruction for Encanto, with an unknown spectacled girl standing in front of a broken Casita.
Alma's relationship with Bruno suffers as a result of the vision experience. He seeks sanctuary within the walls of Casita, where he creates his own private haven. There he finds camaraderie with the rats through their mutual ostracization by everyone else in Encanto.
Julieta discovers and discloses Bruno's secret hiding location to her mother out of worry for his well-being. This escalated to an argument in which Alma physically strikes Bruno before demanding that the hideaway be sealed. Bruno yells angrily at his sisters to leave, then trashes the place in a fit of rage.
Later, a minor tremor occurs, opening a small path through the mountains. Bruno, distraught and emotional, claws his way through the tunnel, the entrance falling behind him. Alma, Julieta, and Pepa soon learn Bruno has gone missing.
Bruno struggles to survive in the Wild West. His Gift of Foresight turns out to be an essential survival tool in this hostile and lawless world. After a period of barely scraping by, a dejected and disheveled Bruno wanders into the declining town of Nuevo Fortuna where he enters a saloon owned by former mercenary and killer Clarence LeRoy. Old LeRoy takes the young Madrigal boy in.
After a few weeks of working in the saloon, Bruno gets into a fight with two cowboys, Mad Mucci and Crazy Campbell. Mucci, who is inebriated, accuses Bruno of stealing and physically beats him, with Campbell assisting in the assault. During the altercation, Bruno inadvertently stabs Campbell in the gut, fatally wounding the cowboy, who dies a slow, agonizing death asking for his mama. The young man is obviously upset by this situation. Mucci swears vengeance before Clarence dispatches him.
Mucci returns with four other cowboys on a dark and stormy night. Clarence fights them off as best he can, but the assailants do manage to set the saloon on fire with molotov cocktails. A wounded Mucci flees to the town outhouse, where he is discovered by Bruno, who shoots him three times with the cowboys own firearm. Bruno, feeling horrible and unwilling to burden Clarence any further, departs of his own accord, taking a horse from the town stables and riding off into the desert.
Clarence and Bruno are reunited two years later, in 1873, in the mining boomtown of Silver Lining, Arizona. Bruno currently lives among immigrants, led by Herr Rissmann and Madame Brancusi, camped just outside of town, the majority of whom work as cheap labor for the Silver Lining Mining Company. Given his reputation, Clarence is hired as a security guard at a local gambling institution, where he keeps the rowdiest clientele in line. Everything goes smoothly... For a while.
A group of riders raids the camp, resulting in multiple deaths. Clarence encourages Bruno to help identify the murderers so that Carey Jr., the local lawman, may deal with them lawfully. However, Carey Jr. recognizes the gang's commander as notorious gunfighter Bullseye Biehn, who is accompanied by Lapdog Lang, Cutthroat Church, Pistol Philbin, and Badmouth Burke. Carey Jr. is intimidated and refuses to arrest them. Bruno is provoked by Biehn's taunting and shoots him with the late Mucci's revolver, which he had retained since departing Nuevo Fortuna. His actions trigger a brief but intense gunfight in which Church, Philbin, and Burke are killed, with Lang fleeing and Clarence injured. Herr Rissmann ends up dead after getting caught in the crossfire.
People in town seem to want to hang Bruno. In their eyes, a goddamn Mexican runt committed cold-blooded murder. Carey Jr. attempts to arrest Bruno, but the teen is emboldened by his deeds and holds the sheriff at gunpoint. He rips off the sheriff's badge in contempt at his cowardice before fleeing with Clarence, the mob too afraid to intervene. Clarence reprimands the lad for his actions once they get outside of town. Bruno gets enraged by the old man’s scolding, wondering why everyone else does what he just did, but when he does the same thing, it's bad.
An incensed Bruno rejoins his camp, who are not delighted to see him. They explain that, as a result of his activities in Cosmatos, they must all relocate or suffer retaliation. As a result, he is exiled from the group. This causes him to have a vision in which he sees the camp being assaulted by bandits as they migrate. Rather than trying to warn them, Bruno abandons them to their fate, viewing them as no better than the people back in Encanto.
Following the Silver Lining Shootout, rumors circulate about a gunfighter with the devil's eyes and disposition. A killer who will out-draw and shoot anyone foolish enough to provoke him. No one knows his name or where he came from. Witness evidence was unreliable, and descriptions of this outlaw proved to be exaggerated. The only constants were that he was Mexican, wore an unusual green poncho, and had eyes that shone an unholy green. Such tall tales earned him the name El Ojos Diablos (Butchered Spanish for The Devil's Eyes).
Pieces of information about El Ojos Diablos’ deeds are carried on unnatural winds to Encanto. Alma, Julieta, and Pepa are shaken by the outlaws' fanciful but sparse accounts because they sound suspiciously similar to someone they know all too well.
In 1875, cattleman McGraw employed Clarence as a cowhand to join him, his wife Audrey, and their daughter, May on a cross-country cattle drive from Tennessee to Wyoming Territory. Cattle rustlers ambush the group halfway through their journey. McGraw is killed, while Old LeRoy is wounded. Bruno is revealed to be one of the rustlers. Upon seeing Clarence’s injured state, Bruno turns on his gang and executes them all with cold frightening ease before personally slaying the head rustler.
Bruno resolves to assist Clarence, Audrey, and May in completing their journey. His seemingly innate capacity to predict danger makes him crucial to their survival. Everyone is oblivious of his Gift and the suffering it brings him. He copes with his pain by occasionally sipping booze. Bruno also shows off his revolver, Memento, which is Mucci's revolver that has been customized to the boy's specifications.
When they arrive at their location in Bullhead, Wyoming, Bruno invites Clarence to the saloon for drinks. When Old LeRoy insists on the Madrigal lad returning home, what appears to be a typical night of companionship between them devolves into an argument. Bruno bitterly refuses and attempts to retire for the evening. Unfortunately, May, who holds Bruno responsible for her father's murder, dares him to a duel, which he accepts once she provokes him. Knowing May will not win, Clarence knocks Bruno out with a bottle of whiskey before handing him over to the law. This "betrayal" stings Bruno. Bruno escapes custody one night, killing two deputies on his way out. Clarence aims to shoot the youngster with his rifle as he rides away, but realizes he lacks the nerve to do so.
In 1877, Clarence settled down as a rancher in New Mexico Territory. Sutherland, Phillips, Sheen, Mulroney, and Siemaszko, his hired workers, look up to him as a mentor figure.
Felix Freeman, a former Caribbean Island plantation slave, is apprehended while attempting to steal from the LeRoy Ranch. Felix's disheveled, downtrodden state is reminiscent of Bruno. Clarence chooses to take Felix in, intending to place him on a better path. Felix's sharp eye and attention have earned him the nickname Halcon Eye.
Rosemary, Clarence’s estranged sister, brings her son Emilio Agustin Estevez Jr. to work for him in an attempt to straighten him out. Emilio Senior, the boy's father, was a jerk who left a long time ago. Clarence finds Agustin's behavior reminiscent of Bruno. He agrees to help the boy so he does not go down the same terrible road.
Agustin is initially at odds with the other hired hands due to his near-sightedness and refusal to wear spectacles, causing him to screw up on more than one occasion. He earns himself the unflattering nickname Squinty.
Over the past two years, El Ojos Diablos' exploits have become more erratic and violent. He’s developed a bad habit of escalating situations out of sheer intemperance. As a result, every gang he rode with never lasted very long, not that he cared. Said gangs were unaware that El Ojos Diablos rode amongst them until shit went south on account of his explosive temper. From then on, even other outlaws grew weary of his name.
El Ojos Diablos suffered from frequent mood swings and terrible visions, which did little to improve his already sour demeanor. Alcohol relieved his agony, while bullets put an end to any grievances he had—as bitter and selfish as he was. Bullets delivered tthrough his two trusty shooting irons, Memento and Mori. This devil's actions gained a $5,000 bounty on his head, attracting a wide range of people eager to make their fortune. Those poor fools never found any fortune. They only found a bullet between their eyes.
El Ojos Diablos' terrible tales spread far and wide. Tales that eventually reached Encanto. This was too much for the Madrigals. So much so that Alma forbids any mention of her son’s existence. Alma, Julieta, and Pepa all deal with their sadness privately in different ways.
The LeRoy Ranch Boys eventually bond over their mutual interest in Wild West Dime Novels. When a terrible drought strikes Old LeRoy's ranch, the boys advise going after El Ojos Diablos, who is said to be lurking around Texas. Clarence quickly refuses such an undertaking upon seeing El Ojos Diablos’ poster illustration, albeit he does not explain why.
The boys decide to pursue El Ojos Diablos on their own. They buy a bunch of guns (on Clarence's tab) before riding off to Texas. On the way, they choose to call themselves the Young Guns. They arrive at the town of Rest’N’Peace and spend the night drinking, boasting, and celebrating their future prosperity. An inebriated El Ojos Diablos turns up and slaughters the novice Young Guns, killing Sutherland, Phillips, Sheen, Mulroney, and Siemaszko with eyes flashing a horrible green. Only Agustin and Felix remain, with the latter fleeing in terror while the former is left injured and at the mercy of the killer.
Clarence arrives right before El Ojos Diablos is about to execute Agustin. Their conversation reveals that El Ojos Diablos is actually Bruno: Alcohol, stress, and a lack of personal care have turned him into a bitter, resentful ghoul. Old LeRoy sees his boys dead and what the young Madrigal kid has become. Both draw on the other, with El Ojos Diablos emerging victorious. Bruno, visibly distraught by what he has done, retreats into the night, leaving Agustin with Clarence, who gives some final words of wisdom as he dies.
Felix conceals himself in a dark alleyway. He sees Bruno escaping and moves to shoot him with his Spencer 1860 Rifle. However, Freeman's nerve weakens, allowing Bruno to flee.
Agustin and Felix lay to rest their mentor and companions in the Rest'N'Peace Cemetery. Rosemary, bereaved, disowns Agustin. Egger, the village undertaker, sympathizes with the kids and advises them to make a fresh start south of the Rio Grande. Both Estevez and Freeman choose to heed the undertaker's advice.
El Ojos Diablos vents his grief over Clarence's death elsewhere. He's hiding away among rats and empty booze bottles in a run-down homestead. The weight of everything he has done buries him under immense guilt.
Agustin and Felix reach the Rio Grande. From there they are led into Encanto by a golden butterfly. Both are taken aback by everything around them. So amazed, in fact, that Agustin becomes sidetracked and has an accident, injuring his leg. Julieta heals him, displaying their magic. She and Pepa offer to assist them in becoming acquainted with the town, which he accepts. Alma eventually meets and talks with the two about their circumstances, considering the fact they both arrived alone. Agustin gives Alma the bare bones of what happened before their arrival. Hearing that they both lost their companions as a result of an unlawful slaughter is enough for the Madrigal Matriarch. She welcomes them as new members of the community.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind
1877-1888 (Age 21-32)
Agustin makes frequent visits to Julieta since his accident-prone activities get him hurt all the time. This helps them get more intimate. Agustin discusses the incident at Rest’N’Peace, but he is too ashamed and guilty to continue.
Felix and Pepa become infatuated at the same time. He understands her emotional struggles and how they affect her Gift. They develop a mutual affection for one other.
Alma receives no additional word about El Ojos Diablos. She now knows nothing about her son other than the romanticized fabrications his deeds inspired.
Both couples got married in 1885. Felix and Pepa’s wedding day proved to be unforgettable when a man in a flying contraption crashes into the town church. Agustin and Julieta's daughter Isabela is born the same year, while Felix and Pepa's firstborn daughter Dolores arrives a few months later.
Agustin and Julieta’s second daughter Luisa was born in 1887.
Do Something Right
1889-1891 (Age 33-35)
La Famiglia Morricone secured a bank loan to purchase land in the autumn of 1889. They plan to establish a horse stable near the town of Second Chance, Oklahoma Territory. When they arrive at their lot, they discover a dilapidated shack inhabited by a single squatter… A now 33-year-old Bruno.
Bruno is a recluse who lives by himself. He lives off the land and avoids people. Solitude has partially improved his disposition, but he is a considerably more weary and somber man, tormented by his past mistakes.
The squatter agrees to leave for the benefit of the Morricones. He doesn't want to burden or trouble anyone else. Signore and Signora Morricone's daughter, Maria Morricone, understands Bruno's circumstance. She offers him the opportunity to reside on their property in exchange for working as a hired hand. Bruno hesitantly accepted this offer. Alonzo Morricone, Maria's brother, is suspicious of Bruno.
By December 1889, the Morricone Stables were operational. However, winter arrives early when a terrible blizzard sweeps through the territory, causing great hardship for the town of Second Chance and everything that surrounds it. Signore Morricone contracts tuberculosis and dies from overexertion. Signora Morricone dies soon after of heartbreak. Maria and Alonzo are left to pay off their remaining debts or lose their home.
Bruno develops a fever. Whilst being brought over to the main house, Bruno has a vision of Maria's future in which she has a child. This astounds the Morricone Siblings. Bruno ends up being confined to the main house due to his failing health and the harsh winter conditions.
The former outlaw opens up to Maria while in her care. He finds her easy to talk to, and she listens in genuine silence, offering her own words of empathy. Her compassion and understanding soothe the lonely, bitter boy buried deep within.
Bruno recovers and helps the Morricone Siblings pay back their debt. A mutual attraction develops between Bruno and Maria. The two do eventually marry with Bruno choosing to take on Maria's maiden name.
That same year, Isabela and Dolores both receive their own wonderful Gifts. Isabela is endowed with the ability to conjure and control plants, while Dolores gains super-hearing. Alma is especially proud of Isabela's Gift, but she is concerned when Dolores' Gift becomes too much for her. Her reaction reminds her of He Who Must Not Be Mentioned. Alma, concerned about what her granddaughters might become, shows them both a book with articles and scraplets describing Bruno's numerous crimes. This serves as a warning to both granddaughters to always be grateful for their Gifts and to never be hesitant to serve the community, lest they end up like their cold-blooded uncle.
Bruno Morricone became well-regarded by the town of Second Chance. Everyone recognises him for his abilities and patience with animals. Because of their love and concern for Maria, he and Alonzo have created a strong brotherly bond.
Maria develops morning sickness. A trip to the town doctor reveals that she is pregnant. When Maria breaks the news to Bruno, he panics and has a vision. He envisions their child, revealed to be a girl, killing someone with a double-barreled shotgun. Maria quickly reassures her husband, telling him that instead of fearing the worst, they should focus on raising their daughter to be a decent person. This calms Bruno down a little, but he's still nervous.
On her fifth birthday, Luisa Madrigal receives her gift of super-strength. Alma shows her the book of El Ojos Diablos. Has about the same effect it had on Isabela and Dolores.
Richie Spait, a wounded and on-the-run bandit, bursts into the Morricone home one night and takes a visibly pregnant Maria hostage. He demands everything valuable in their home, as well as a horse. Richie has no idea whose house he broke into. The house rats divert his attention long enough for Maria to flee and Bruno to strike. Spait tries to flee, but Bruno shoots him with a shotgun. The outraged husband and soon-to-be father strangles Richie to death before flinging his body to Alonzo’s hogs. The experience disturbs him because of how swiftly he reverted to his old ways. Alonzo consoles him with the fact he had acted in defense of those he loved. Something anyone else in the same position would do.
Mirabel Morricone was born in the month of March, 1891. Camilo Madrigal, Felix and Pepa's second child, is born around the same time.
A sinister force stirs within Bruno's sealed tower.
1896 (Age 40)
Bruno has kept his distance from Mirabel for the previous five years due to his anxieties about the prophecy he had regarding her. He believes that being around her will bring about the future he predicted. Mirabel spends most of her time with her mother, but she longs for her father's attention as well.
Mirabel is nicknamed Mira-Boo by Alonzo. She responds by referring to him as Bud Bear, a nickname bestowed upon him by a Native American Shaman and which Maria teased him about in their youth, much to his dismay.
In the days leading up to Mirabel's fifth birthday, Bruno worries about whether or not his child will receive a Gift like he did.
Mirabel witnesses her Papa having an uncontrollable vision. She inquires if he is a witch. Bruno reluctantly informs her about his Gift. Naturally, the little girl becomes very excited. Her father does not share this sentiment.
Mirabel receives no Gift on her fifth birthday. Her door, unbeknownst to the Morricones, appears within Casita. The Madrigals are reasonably perplexed by this, considering the door shows a spectacled girl and the doorknob has a 'M' on it. Eventually, the door vanishes without a trace. Nonetheless, the Madrigals are left wondering who that child was.
Mirabel spends the next few days looking for her "Gift." She tries to fly off the roof. Bruno saves and then shouts at her, telling Mirabel she'd be better off without one. Maria consoles her daughter before gently discussing the matter with Bruno. Mrs. Morricone suggests that Mirabel may have desired a Gift in order to be closer to her Papa. A Papa who has been largely absent from his daughter's life.
Bruno gives his daughter her own horse in order to make amends with Mirabel and find a way for them to spend time together. Specifically, Maria’s mare Marmalade's newborn foal who was conceived after an unfortunate overnight incident involving a customer's stud whilst Marmalade had been in heat. Mirabel names the foal Pedro. Bruno and Mirabel raise Pedro together, with the Morricone Daughter displaying her talent for animals.
Camilo receives the ability to shape-shift on his fifth birthday. Alma shows him the El Ojos Diablos book. However, due to the numerous exaggerations of Bruno's exploits as an outlaw, young Camilo is left with the sense that his Tio was an anti-heroic gunfighter.
1899 (Age 43)
Maria becomes bedridden after contracting pneumonia. Bruno considers taking her to Encanto or traveling there himself to have Julieta heal her. The local doctor, on the other hand, makes it obvious that she is in no condition to be relocated and does not have much time. Bruno Morricone can't bear the prospect of leaving just to find his sweetheart dead when he returns. Maria requests that he spend the remaining time with her, Mirabel, and Alonzo as a full family.
Maria dies shortly after Mirabel's eighth birthday. Bruno leaves Mirabel with Alonzo while he buries her privately. Despite his wishes to be alone, Mirabel joins him, resulting in both father and daughter supporting each other in their grief over Maria's death.
Following Maria's death, Bruno has a serious discussion with his daughter. He informs Mirabel that everything Maria left is hers to inherit. It is merely his duty as her father to manage the place until she is ready.
1901 (Age 45)
Pepa gives birth to her and Felix’s third child, Antonio.

famous anonymous author!bruno idea? 👀
👀 i already wrote about this a little bit during encantober (for the gift prompt), featuring Osvaldo
The premise is that Bruno wrote a LOT of romantic/smutty fiction during his time in the walls. His sisters/the guys find these, like it, and encourage him to sell the stories as books. Bruno agrees, but wants to do this anonymously. His relationship with the Encantonians still feels a little awkward. He becomes immensely popular however and is the Encanto's number one romance novelist!
additional notes:
gay Bruno, like always.
he uses a pseudonym which vaguely references the miracle. I was thinking something along the lines of "Estrella del Milagro"/"Estrella Milagrosa", but time has passed and it sounds a little dorky/off to me now, haha.
the stories are so dramatic. and so trashy. exactly how people like it.
they start out as little secrets (mostly) women pass around but prove hugely popular.
in that encantober fic I linked I made alma the cover artist. I like the headcanon that she's an artist (opposite Pedro the poet) and that she painted at least a few of the paintings in Casita, such as the one Bruno hides behind.
Alternatively: she has no idea this is Bruno. She loves the more romance-focused novels/novellas to death.
I'm not sure how active the Encanto's book publishing market is. I think they mostly rotate through old books and (especially at the start) don't have the resources to publish books. And because they're a social community they wouldn't have use for a newspaper since all of their news happens via word of mouth. Maybe there's a guy from the original refugees who had notes on printing, lol. Argh, the Encanto needs an archivist!
On that note, I can see Mariano putting out little poetry collections. (He's not so popular. Sorry!)
Osvaldo is involved because they need non-madrigal distributor. Secrecy is sworn. The truth may eventually come out though...
The identity of the author is speculated for years! A few Madrigals are considered~
Pepa also writes one short story after reading a really bad concept Bruno wrote in the walls about…rat babies…that she sees potential in (but needs a feminine, motherly touch). It's still published under the "Estrella" pseudonym but is revealed being hers years later. A bunch of people win the betting pool.
Bruno loves crazy passionate female main characters. The 'lore' is that it's always "Estrella" in different universes, though. Kinda like Barbie, if I had to give an example.
He needs an editor. I vote the most passionate of Madrigal men, Félix, and maybe Agustín. Osvaldo was briefly considered since he's already a middleman and essentially his partner, but he has unreasonable opinions on the sexual workings of women.
Bruno mostly wrote these stories in the walls for his own pleasure (literally. a lot are smut stories), and were ultimately about gay men having sex with each other, or other passionate and complex relationships. Even after editing for the general public, some of his work uses very ambiguous language for the main characters. They are presumed to be women, but if you read through the lines it's easy to read the mc as a man, making his novels gay romance fiction.
Encanto's gay population feel vindicated when the truth reveals itself. As do the 1950s slash shippers.
Years later, after "Estrella" reveals her identity, which probably involved an impatient and overly excited/smug Osvaldo and a Bruno who said "Oh, fuck it, fine. It was me. I'm your favorite author", Bruno publishes an omnibus/collection for the novels' anniversary in which he has a chapter on his identity. He talks about being gay and adresses the speculation that the mc could have been gay all this time, just like its author. All is interpretable, though. Bruno has never had a relationship, but Estrella has been in hundreds. Everyone is allowed to see themselves in the characters, man or woman, or enjoy the stories for what they are. He just hopes people will be open to the idea, will respect it and maybe consider it. He ends the chapter by thanking the Encanto for welcoming him back, as both "Estrella" and Bruno.
There's a q&a that basically boils down to: Q: Why did you decide to write [controversial plotpoint people loved but fundamentally made no damn sense]? B: Oh, I wrote that when I was hiding in the walls. I was a little crazy. Q: But how did you come up with the idea? B: I can't say I understand anything I did when I was in the walls.

Princesa Bruno is, surely, the best Bruno.
I tried to stay away. But the idea of Bruno in a tiara (plus a slightly flirtier chapter of Nettle & Daisy to come) drew me back in. Bruno is tired of being set up with his ex-girlfriend who thinks he can kill fish with his mind. Luckily, his sobrinas - and a bag of makeup - are close by to help out...
Bruno had done a lot of things wrong in his life. But, apparently, the worst of his crimes was getting into his mid-thirties without having a big wedding and popping out a few more little miracles for the community. Hence, Señora Pezmuerto’s latest visit to La Casita. With Ozma.               He stared into the wardrobe in his vision cave – really, just a hollowed-out wall where the sand couldn’t get to – the brand-new ruana that Mamá had bought for the occasion staring right back at him. “You want Ozma to see you at your best, don’t you?” she’d said, shooting him a pointed look. And that had been his moment; the moment to tell her that he didn’t want Ozma and she very, very much didn’t want him. That he wasn’t a kid anymore and she needed to get over this dumb, romanticised idea that –               “I mean. I mean, it doesn’t really…Mamá, me and Ozma…”               The next thing he knew, his Mamá’s hand was cupping his cheek. “You look so much like your Papa, mi vida.” Her eyes were filled with this…this softness that Bruno barely ever got to see. She smiled, squeezing his cheek beneath her fingers, and Bruno felt is resolve weaken, just a little. Just enough. “He would want to see you happily married. With children by your side. And Ozma is intelligent and beautiful, with a good family behind her – a perfect match for the family.”               “But Mamá…”               “Go get changed. And brush your hair.” Mamá ruffled his curls, tutting. “You’re growing it so long these days, Brunito. It isn’t tidy.”               Bruno groaned, pulling the ruana down from its shelf and slipping it over his head. Ozma and Bruno had a…complicated past. She’d had this inexplicable crush on him all through their childhoods, which Bruno had regarded with a sort of detached confusion. Then, when he got a little older and realised girls were kinda interesting, he and Ozma had, um, let’s call it ‘dated.’ Off and on. Enough that the family took notice. Then The Fish Incident happened.               She’d been grieving. He knew that. He knew what it was like to lose a pet; he had rats, after all. They don’t exactly live forever. But in the middle of her tears, Ozma had told Bruno that it was his fault Triton had died, because of the vision he gave her. And he’d lost his temper. Told her that was the stupidest thing he’d ever heard. She knew that wasn’t how visions worked, and he was sick – sick! – of being blamed for stuff that wasn’t his fault. But she stuck by it. Told the whole town. So now, they barely talked. But Mamá wasn’t buying that; she was convinced that his and Ozma’s grand love story was only one dinner party away. Because, in the Encanto, the only thing stopping True Love must be that there weren’t enough social functions thrown at the problem.               “Tio Bruno? Tio, it’s us!”               Bruno started as three tiny sets of feet pounded up the stone steps to his vision cave. He couldn’t even manage them without feeling like he was dying. Oh, to be young again.               Little Isabela, Dolores and Luisa burst into his cave, out of breath but giggling at each other in their pretty party dresses. The three oldest Madrigal grandkids had formed a little pack, these days, since Mirabel and Camilo came along. Luisa seemed thrilled to not be considered The Baby anymore, getting to tag along with Dolores and Isabela instead of sticking close to her (very preoccupied) Mamá. She was clutching something in her hand – some sort of bag? Bruno couldn’t keep track of all the toys these kids had.               “Hey, girls,” Bruno sighed, straightening out the ruana with a flick of his hands. “You been sent to get me?”               “Mm-hmm,” Isabela nodded. “Abuela says we need to make sure you brush your hair.”               I’m thirty-five years old and the six-year-old gets sent to check up on me. Thanks for the vote of confidence, Mamá. “Well,” he said, spinning around on his tiptoes, arms outstretched, “how do I look? Dashing, I hope.”               Isabela and Dolores looked at each other. “Um…you look…” Isa began, her politest smile plastered over her face.               “You’re very…” Dolores offered, reaching out for her tio’s hand.               “I like your old one better, Tio Bruno.” Luisa went into his wardrobe and pulled out his old, faithful, beloved, barely-fit-for-purpose ruana that he wore day to day. “That one is too small!”               It was true. The new ruana was a better fit. Actually showed off that he had, y’know, a torso. But Bruno liked his old one because it was so huge. It was comfy. “I know, Luisa,” he said, taking it from her and folding it up again. “But your Abuela got this one made special for me. S-so I gotta wear it.”               His newly-anointed second-littlest sobrina pouted. “Thas’ no fair.”               You’re telling me.               Isabela nudged her side with a smile. “Luisa, tell him what we brought.”               Luisa instantly brightened, pushing the bag in her hand up into Bruno’s face. “We brought some stuff to make you feel pretty, Tio Bruno! Look, look!”               Bruno took the bag from her and undid the clasp. Inside there was…               “Makeup?” Bruno asked, taking a lipstick between his fingers and turning it this way and that sceptically.               “Abuela said you need to be pr…pr-presentable for tonight,” Dolores said, picking her way carefully over the big word. “And when we asked what that meant, she said you have to look nice for Señorita Ozma.”                “And then I remembered Tia Pepa gave us some makeup to play with!” Isabela grinned. She had a gap in her teeth where a baby tooth had fallen out last week. She was adorable. “So we brought it up here so we can help.”               “Ah. Um, girls,” Bruno said gently, putting the lipstick away and handing the bag back to Isabela. “That’s…th-that’s a really sweet thought. But I don’t think Abuela would like it if…”               “Bruno!”               Bruno winced as his mother’s voice floated up to him. Hundreds of steps, and yet he could still hear every word she said. This house truly was magic. “I want you downstairs and ready to welcome the Pezmuertos in ten minutes.”               “Yes, Mamá,” Bruno said through gritted teeth.               “Are you wearing the new ruana?”               “Yes, Mamá.”               “And tie your hair back. Tonight must go perfectly, and I will not be embarrassed in front of our neighbours.”               It shouldn’t sting. Not after all this time. But it did. That was almost the worst bit; feeling stupid that it hurt. Bruno’s right hand slipped around to grip his left arm, pads of his fingers digging into the new fabric. So, those were his options; embarrass the family, or get engaged to someone who thought he could kill fish with his mind. Great choices.               Dolores’ hand reached up to unpick his grip around his bicep. “Tio?”               Bruno blinked, looking down at his sobrinas. They were all looking up at him with these big, innocent eyes, but there was a flicker of something in their expression that he recognised from their parents – especially Pepa and Julieta. They were worried about him. They were six and four years old, and they were already worried about Crazy Tio Bruno.               After a long moment, he squatted down to their level. “Y’hear that, girls?” Bruno asked, hugging Dolores close. “We’ve still got ten minutes.”               He sat on the ground with a thump, closed his eyes, and braced himself. “Prettify me.” ... “…Yes, Señora Madrigal; I’m incredibly proud of this year’s breeding program. The Cardinal Tetra will be ready to release into the ornamental pond by next week, and they’ll just be the perfect addition to…”               Are we seriously going to talk about fish all night? Bruno made a face, and Isabela smacked his hand gently. “You’ll smear it,” she whispered.               “Okay, sorry, sorry.”               “Ah, here comes Bruno now. Looking after his sobrinas, I’ve no doubt. He’s so good with the children – which is useful to know, I think…”               “Yes, well; Ozma’s always wanted to have a family. And, as we all know, time waits for no-one – isn’t that right, Ozma? You’re turning thirty-three this year, after all.”               “Yes, Mamá.”               “I’m sure after dinner there will be ample opportunity to…talk…about…”               As Bruno entered the dining room and the girls clambered into their seats, Mamá’s face became a terrible, glorious dawning of horror. Across the table from her, Agustin and Felix simultaneously started to choke on their food, pounding on their chests and shaking each other’s knees in repressed glee. Pepa looked as if she were about to start a hurricane. Julieta just rolled her eyes and left the table. Bruno tucked his hair behind one ear (showing off the clip-on earring of a bright pink flower) and drank it all in.               The girls had done an excellent job. His mouth was a garish, bright red smear of lipstick. His eyes were ringed in purple shadow – Luisa had come at him with an eyeliner stick, but he persuaded her to go in with powder and a brush instead, for the sake of his eyeballs. Isa had drawn a smiley face on his cheek with the eyeliner, instead. Perched in his hair (neatly brushed and tied back with a green ribbon; Bruno was all for malicious compliance) was a sparkly tiara that Luisa had dashed back to the nursery to retrieve, borrowed from her favourite doll. For once in his life, Bruno Madrigal had every set of eyes on him, and it felt absolutely amazing.               He took his seat next to Ozma, nodding politely. “Sorry we’re late,” he said. “Ooh, arepas! Thanks, Juli.”               “Um,” Ozma began, shooting her mother a look. “Um, Bru—I mean, Señor Madrigal…”               “Please,” Bruno said, kicking Agustin under the table to stop him sputtering and giving Ozma his most charming, fakest smile, “Señor Madrigal was my father. Call me Princesa Brunita Elena Glitter-Pants The Fifth.”               Mama’s face darkened. The girls lit up, grinning at each other and squealing. They’d all come up with the name together. Pepa shushed Dolores sharply, and she pretended to focus on her plate for about ten seconds before she started giggling again. Her father wasn’t exactly helping matters; Félix’s shoulders were shaking like he was having a fit. Ozma turned away and focused on her wine glass, drinking deeply. Bruno shrugged, popping an arepa into his mouth. Mamá shot him a venomous look, then returned as best she could to her conversation with Señora Pezmuerto, chatting about this or that event coming up in the Encanto social calendar. But no-one was concentrating anymore, then the babies stated to cry, and the dinner fell apart soon after that, much to Mamá’s chagrin. The girls were sent to bed without dessert, and Bruno was expected to walk Ozma home. Without washing his face first. He supposed that was the beginning of his penance.               “You,” Ozma hissed, taking her hat from the wall hanger and shoving it onto her head, “are an immature, disrespectful idiot.”               “Mmyeh. It wouldn’t have worked out anyway,” Bruno said under his breath, adjusting his tiara, wine glass still in hand.               “It was the same when we were kids. You never –”               “Y-you know José? From church? He’s gonna ask you to go for a walk with him next Sunday. Take him up on it. You’ll thank me.”               Ozma blinked, all the anger dropping away for a moment. “Oh. Oh, Bruno, that’s…you didn’t have to…”               “Well, hey, a-a vision ruined this,” Bruno said, taking a last sip of wine and admiring the lipstick stain he left on the glass. “A vision can fix it. A bit.”               Ozma smiled, and he saw some of that eighteen-year-old kid he’d cared about all those years ago. He did kinda miss her, he had to admit. “Thanks, Bruno. It’s good to know you weren’t my last chance at marriage.”               “Nah. You? You’re too smart for that. You’ll have, like, a million babies and build your aquatic empire.”               “We had fun, though, right? Back then. Before we grew up.”               “Who said I grew up?” Bruno tossed his hair, hands on his hips, and Ozma laughed reluctantly. “But I mean, yeah. Yeah, course we did.” He held out his arm, winking one purple-smeared eye. “So? Can I walk you home?”               Ozma’s smile dropped away. “No. Absolutely not. You look ridiculous.”               “Fair. No, that’s fair.”

English is not my first language and I’m not great at making a long story.
So if you have nothing to write and interest in my story line you can fix ,re-write or add more because I really love your writing and still looking forward to your next work.
Have you ever thinking an Encanto AU Which Mirabel give up to proof herself to Madrigal and Community ?.
In this AU She start to focus on the other things that really important to her instead of her family like a…Her reason to live for?
I set it all in pre-canon
For Example
She have a pet that she can give all of her heart for them.
-In this AU Mirabel love her pet more than everything in the world .She treat it like her own kid. And she become so dramatic about her pet.She would be like Cap.Holt and Kevin in Brooklyn 99.(Inspired byCheddar is missing )
-Mirabel make her pet dish by her own and all of her dish are delicious and don’t even look like it for pet so Camilo steal it because he think his Tia made it .When she come back with her pet she scold him and it look more terrified and scarier than Abuela and Pepa when they angry
-Mirabel will ask Isabela to make her a catnip (if her pet is a cat) or any plants that she want for her pet accept flower and when she know Isabela can’t make it for her she will look at her sister with a disappointment and give her a look ‘I know you let me down’ or ‘You mean nothing to me (back turn)’ instead saying anything and just go back to playing with her pet while left Isabela who shock in silence behind. Isabela take that as a challenge . She give all of her time to make a catnip. She succeeds and know she can grow more than flower so she explores her gifts and become like herself in post-canon. She go see Mirabel in her new look and give her a catnip. Mirabel hug Isabela and say ‘Thanks! You are the best sister .I love you ,Isa.’ Isabela going to cry and apologize to her little sister but Mirabel left her to play with her pet again. Isabela swear to herself she going to kill that thing .It dare to take all of her little sister love from her.
-Mirabel pet only get along with Julieta Agustin Dolores Antonio and Bruno.
Julieta make a food that can heal it and her food always delicious and full of love
Agustin clumsy make himself look so pathetic. It feel sorry for him so it want to comfort him (cuddle and lick)
Dolores offer her room when thunderstorm come. Loud noise make animal panic and she so quiet so It peaceful around her.
Antonio is an animal guy and Mirabel roommate.
About Bruno…Mirabel pet Chasing Bruno rats and leading Mirabel to the wall so she can see her long lost uncle again in nine years. Mirabel won’t ask any questions with Bruno cause she understand him so she just visits him every time she can with food(she cook for him) and her pet. Bruno will show his telenovelas to Mirabel that make Mirabel become his 2nd Fan’s (Dolores is the first one). Mirabel and Dolores will become best friend who will talking a lot about their opinions and theories about Bruno telenovelas. Mirabel pet will get along with Bruno because his loneliness and it feel sorry for him.
-Mirabel pet don’t get along with Abuela Pepa Felix Camilo Isabela and Luisa
Abuela always be mean to Mirabel so her pet will take opportunities to take all of Mirabel attention to it and make Mirabel stay away from her Abuela so Mirabel and Abuela always see each other from distant or in the meal time and They don’t even have a talk because Mirabel pet always give Mirabel an excuse.
Pepa emotion and cloud make Mirabeal pet scare. Her dramatic looks make it scare to because it’s look like some mean human who alway put their anger and violent to strays.
Felix with Pepa all the time so…
Camilo stole Mirabel pet food.(It’s a heinous crime and greatest sin) He won’t get any forgiveness.
Isabela is the same condition as Abuela and also she smell too much of flower.
Luisa have a huge body deep voice and always carries heavy things that normal human can’t so it make Mirabel pet scare.
e.g. Camilo : Do you want to help me do my chores ?
Mirabel : Don’t be lazy Camilo .It’s your chores ,right? And if I help you Abuela will scold me .Why don’t you do it by yourself .I’m going to play with (her pet) Bye!
She become Matteo girlfriend and she love him so much like every teenage love.
-I have no idea . I’m not similar to this kind of stuff.
e.g. Madrigals : Hey ,Mira we are going to the town . Do you want to come with us ?’
Mirabel : Sorry…I’m going to see Matt but thanks for the invite. Oh! I will have lunch at his house so…see you at dinner !
She start to focus on her hobbies like drawing painting singing playing music and sewing .She don’t care about Magic and move her interest to science. She need her alone time to practice and do it so she can’t stay in the nursery with a baby and stay in a house that she can get scolded all the time because all of that things will interrupt and distract her. That why she asked her father to make her a studio far away from everyone like a tree house and spend all they all night to finish her project and follow her artistic heart.
-In this AU Mirabel will saying a lot of mean things with no regrets .She would be like Jake Rosa and Gena in B99 at the same time and sometimes she talk in lullaby or rapping as fast as The Family Madrigal because she drink too much coffee and sleep less.//
-She tells all of her family that they all suck and Boring//
-She alway say people suck everyone cheats and true-love is an illusion cause everyone are Homosapiean and Love is just a chemical reaction to compels animals to breed. But deep down she love her family and Encanto all of her heart. She just want to mess them with science.
-She will drown herself in her own thoughts and no one can’t come to her own world. She will make a line that no one can cross. And If someone dare…her family or not… she will give them the worst nightmare.
e.g. Mirabel : I’m sick of your stupid Madrigal things. All of you stay here and I will stay away. Are you happy now?
All of alternative things that could happen have the same thing that would happen.
Mirabel don’t care about having gift or proofing herself anymore so she step aside as everyone said and Madrigals start to notice they jealous and sad when knowing Mirabel have new interests and don’t have time to spend with them anymore.
Wow
Can-can you write more? This is amazing
I’m -
Furiously take notes and wait for the next post

Info about Papa!Villian!Bruno
Tw: murder, child abuse
After Bruno had the vision of Mirabel and the cracks in a panic he decided to kidnapped Mirabel and take her out of the Encanto, believe that it would be safe for her
He accidentally took Camilo as well, not noticing that Camilo was sleeping next to Mirabel
The trio move to a subburb area near Bogotá
Bruno decided to take Camilo because he and Mirabel were close and he didn’t want Camilo to be force to use his gift and help the community and not have a childhood
He wanted to take the older kids as well but he couldn’t since that will be a big red flag if all the kids and Bruno left
Somewhere along the way Bruno protect of Mirabel grew into an obsessive and now instead of making the vision not come true, he’s going to make it come true.
Again, he’s a villian in this story.
Camilo end up becoming Mirabel protector “she said to jump you say how high”
Mirabel grew up to have a normal childhood; friends, crushes, school ect.
Everyone and even Mirabel and Camilo, think that the two are twins
Camilo dosnt have the best childhood, and he takes his anger and hate out onto Mirabel
The kids wear green
A few days before Mirabel and Camilo birthday (March 6) Mirabel’s childhood bully, Sofia De León, is found dead.
Sofia De León dad owns a underground ring/black market thing. Bruno works for him
Lots of rumors think Camilo murder Sofia. He did
Camilo stalk and physically and physiological torture Sofia
Sofia was only Mirabel bully for a month before she stop. It was when they were 9, she dies when she was 14
Camilo and Bruno also mentally and physically experiment on Mirabel, Camilo has her drink his blood, Bruno gives her drugs. They think the magic is inside her and it just needs to be forced out
The town the trio lives in is called Cantaría. The town is nestled somewhere between the Magdalena River and Andes mountains
Bruno teaches Mirabel and Camilo magic, their witches! Bruno a sea witch, Mirabel a embroidery/cottage and music witch, and Camilo is a bone witch

Camilo has red curly hair and freckles
Camilo started training (killing, stalking, bloodsports, ect.) when he was 10. Mirabel hates it since her brother comes home all bruised up she also left home a lot and is lonely
Camilo knows that Bruno is his uncle and Mirabel is his cousin. He also knows about the vision and the family. A part of him think he’s should tell Mirabel but he doesn’t. He want to help his dad but also not to. Not because he cares about the family, he’s just worried if the candle goes out, magic does too, then all the memories he took or rewrite will come back to his victim and then he’ll be sentenced to jail
Mirabel has three best friends: Mira Sevilla, Eva-Maria Costa, and Rebeca Cubero
The night of her birthday Mirabel get place in a ritual by her family. Mirabel friends try to save her, they failed and Eve got her leg chop off, and Rebeca got one of her arms chop off. Mira ran before she could get hurt
Bruno and Mirabel keep rats, Camilo is doesn’t like them.
Camilo didn’t really have any morals but he does care about his family, kind of. He still bullies and physically hurts Mirabel though. He will do anything once, just to try it or if he’s bored. but he won’t sexually hurt children or animals
Bruno think Mirabel doesn’t have magic because she doesn’t have Madrigal blood, he think either Agustin is not human or Julieta had an affair with a magical creature
After the ritual Mirabel gets periods of being very Ill and bedridden then she’s be normal again it’s a cycle. She also unawarely going through drug withdrawals.
Camilo smokes and drink as a coping mechanism he as a lot of issues
Mirabel is trying to figure out why two of her friend are missing body parts the day after her birthday and why are they acting different. It leads her down a rabbit hole about the town and her family

Dolores Madrigal Headcanons because I love her and she’s my favorite character:
* Due to her Gift, Dolores can hear the telenovas her Tio Bruno’s made and performed.
* She’d quip in her own suggestions through whispers in the walls whenever she passes by a place her tio is at or nearby to hear.
* One time at dinner, Bruno was performing a telenova that had a plot twist, causing Dolores to shout out and get weirded looks from her family - she made it a habit to react silently and freak out about it to her tio when she has the time, and is alone.
* She uses her Gift to receive messages and hear any problems in the homes of the others in the community: leaks, unbalanced structural supports and the like are heard immediately by Dolores, and she helps in reconstruction so she strong as all hell - she can definitely crack a wall or punch a hole through with enough force.
* Her room is completely sound-proof but her door does let out only the faintest noise as to not disturb her alone/sleep time.
* When she’s stressed or overwhelmed, she starts embroidering and sewing and is extremely good at it, and sometimes gives them out to the others in her family and the town.
* If anyone used to watch or read Star Darlings, I headcanon her room to be similar to Piper’s room.
* Ironically, despite being the “most quiet and odd one” and “the golden child after Isabela”, she’s the most chaotic one as well - she’s the type to wake up early in the morning and think “I’m gonna be super helpful today”, and just smirk evilly before returning to a bright smile.
* In her free-time, and in the privacy of her personal quarters, she makes small tunes for her Tio Bruno to enjoy.
* She’s the closest to Tio Bruno in her family due to her Gift.
* Dolores leaves snacks and leftover food heated up at night for Bruno, and if the food is caught out, the blame goes on Camilo.
* She once started crying at a telenova where Bruno kills off her favorite rat character while at dinner.
* I read a headcanon by someone(I forgot who;-;) that when Dolores gets overwhelmed or as a defense-mechanism, her door will create shockwaves whenever the doorknob is touched to keep people out until she’s fine.
* Dolores goes by “she/they” and is pansexual.
* Abnormally good at soccer, but is terrible at it in loud places, so she’d usually practice or play by herself or with her family.
* Due to her Gift, she knows the best gossip and the secrets all around.
* If her family ever watches Mean Girls, Camilo will always reference “Why is her hair so big? It’s full of secrets” which greatly annoys Dolores but also makes her chuckle.

Okay so let's talk about Bruno!!
I may be just a wee bit obsessed with Camilo but I think we can all agree that Bruno was such a strong Madrigal and deserves to be talked about. This isn't so much a character analysis as it is just me aimlessly rambling but I hope you all enjoy it!
So I think I saw someone else mention this but, as far as we're aware, Bruno saving Mirabel is the first human contact he's had in roughly a decade. He looks so terrified for his niece in this moment, but once he saves her, his first gut instinct is to push her away because she was never supposed to know he was here and he has NO idea how to react now. He rejects the first human interaction he's gotten in years because after all this time he still cares more about protecting his family, and truly believes that isolating himself from them is how he does that.
He has let the words of the village and his family eat away at him for 10 years and I truly think that he believes he makes bad things happen unknowingly. While we don't know for sure if Bruno's anxious compulsions were present before his isolation, I would be willing to bet that they developed from a fear and obsession that *he* was the problem, that he was the one causing bad things to happen, and that if he wasn't careful, something would happen again.
His biggest sacrifice? He left for Mirabel. He could tell that she would be ostracized for not having a gift, but he knew for certain that the family would likely abandon her if they discovered his vision. He has convinced himself that if this happens to his niece it will be his fault, because of a gift he has no control over, and so he isolates himself to protect her and her secret. His character is such a tragic but beautiful representation of self-directed paranoia-- he doesn't trust himself and forces himself to be alone.
So with that angst aside, who's hungry??
Food is a big part of community everywhere, but of course especially in the Casita. All the family members have their own rooms, but they always join together for a meal. Julieta even has the power to heal with her food, and this time holds such a high and important place in the family.
THE PLATE. THE FUCKING PLATE.
Tumblr media
It's such a heartbreaking detail of how Bruno wants so BADLY to be part of this family, to sit at their table and eat their food. The comments about him being next to the kitchen and the perks of "free food" are just so tragic because it's not about sharing the food, it's about who you share it with. He barely manages to get any of the leftovers and he shares what little he has with the rats. Bruno looks so much scrawnier and weaker than the rest of the family too and while this is a tad dark I can't help but wonder if it was in part with Julieta's healing magic that he was able to even survive back there??
Ik the triplets got to hug him and tell him it was alright but I really just want the family to welcome him back with a big homemade meal of all of his favorite foods and a place at the table so badly 🥺
AND ABOUT THE HUG. When Bruno manages to reunite with his family the first thing he does isn't to greet them, to say how much he's missed them, to tell him where he was--
the first thing he does is apologize profusely.
He blames himself for the events at Pepa's wedding and apologizes, and starts to say he has a lot to apologize for to Julietta before they can cut him off. The only thing he wants is for them to know that he never *meant* to hurt them, that he always loved them no matter what they may have thought of him. He doesn't even start with anything else, just launches straight into it, because it's what's been plaguing him for the past decade.
And they just quiet his fears and tell him they're just happy he's okay, and pull him into a group hug and he just feels so...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
loved.
For the first time he's really feeling *unconditional* love. His gift isn't a burden to them, but more importantly, HE isn't a burden. He has been silently looking over the family, repairing and holding their home together for years, trying to make up for the terrible events he believed he caused.
It's going to take time, but this is the start of him slowly understanding that what happened wasn't his fault, and that his family always loved him just as he loved all of them, regardless of causing each other unintentional pain. IT'S TRAUMA HEALING TIME and I am 1000% here for it.

hi!!! i hope your day has been lovely. could we get some thoughts/hcs about a more subby bruno madrigal? or him realizing he might have a thing for being praised by his s/o. please and thank you!!
Praise kink headcanons - Bruno Madrigal
Summary: some thoughts about the need for love and support of our favorite man.
Warnings: smut headcanons at the end.
———————————————————————
Sfw:
Bruno craves support and affection from a pretty young age. Given that he’s always been regarded as the omen of misfortune and the black sheep of his family.
And no matter how much his family loved him and he loved them back. Sometimes the failed at making him feel enough and accepted (such as when he isolated himself from fear of his reputation harming Mirabel’s future).
But Bruno actually realizes to what lengths his need for feeling important and valued goes when he comes back and meets you.
From the beginning you seem to always make every effort to be close to him.
During the reparations of Casita you always side up with him in all the activities his given, and praise him for his hard work while giving him a hand in everything you could be of help.
At those moments Bruno finds himself smiling from ear to ear while his faces lights up and he gets all giddy. Even though you two don’t talk much, given his shyness, he finds himself enjoying your company a lot.
Once Casita is fixed you drop by to ask him for a vision. At the beginning he refuses, I’m fear that you may hate him if you see something you don’t like. He ends up giving into your pleads and once he gives you your vision you thank him effusively, telling him what an amazing gift his got. He feels his heart flutter at this and for once he thinks that his gift may not be such a burden after all.
From then on you two grow closer and closer. He tells you about his family, his rats and his love for acting. You always seem so invested on his stories and tell him how cool you find it all, which makes you the first person to turn to when he has something to tell.
Eventually, you get together in a relationship and the praises only seem to grow. You happen to find everything he does fascinating, from a play for his rats his written, to a recipe he lent with Julieta, to some crafts he has made with Maribel and Antonio. And you always tell him so, making Bruno feel appreciated for the first time in many years.
Nsfw:
Bruno has had no experience whatsoever in relationships upon meeting you. You’ve been his first love, his first kiss, his first everything. So it needless to say that you are also his first time.
At the beginning he can’t help but feel shy and nervous about his inexperience. He fears he will do something wrong and hurt you in some way.
He tells you this the first time you are about to have sex together. And your heart melts for how sweet and caring your boyfriend is, being worried about your comfort and pleasure above anything else.
Between kisses you reassure him that it is fine, that he can relax and let go. You explain him that sex is all about communication with your partner. And while you promise him that you’ll tell him if something feels wrong you make him do the same thing, and beg him to tell you when something feel nice.
Please, hear me out, for the first few times you have sex together ride. him. Bruno will melt under you as you bounce up and down his cock, softly caressing his cheeks as you tell him what a good boy he is, how pretty he looks and how well he is doing for you. Don’t expect him to last long, though.
Call him your pretty boy, mi amor, mi vida, mi rey, cariño/sweetheart, tu campeón. He will find himself diving further into your cunt while he caressed your body in an attempt to make you feel as good as he feels.
As much as he likes to receive praises, he also likes to give them. Expect him to tell you how beautiful you look, how you make his heart ache, he’ll call you pet names such as mi ratoncita, mi tesoro, mi milagro, mi vida, and anything else he can find to describe how important you are to him.
So, yeah, Bruno with a praise kink <3

ok but imagine bruno goes mute while in hiding cause like. if all thats between u and getting caught is a panel of wood u would wanna be quiet as possible, including speaking. ESPECIALLY since one of his nieces can hear a sneeze from the next town over.
so he creates his own sign language over the years for himself and his rats. and he gets so used to it being his one form of communication that when maribel finds him he uses sign and maribels just like. what. and theres a little stare off with bruno looking at maribel like SHES the one not making sense until hes like oh yeah 🙂 and when he finally speaks its so quiet and raspy it may as well be silent but. as his own confidence and will to help grows so does his voice and itll always be raspy and weak but he tries and the madrigals learn his language so that hes included in whichever language hes most comfortable in. just. 🥺

Headcanon: Bruno Madrigal is Autistic and has several anxiety disorders (chiefly, OCD).
Preface: let’s just preemptively confront some of the snags that I know will come up in response to this headcanon.
------------------
Myths:
--The autism spectrum is specifically and solely applicable white males in the late 20th and early 21st century. Bruno is “just weird, don’t overthink it.”
--Neurodivergency (developmental disorders like autism and ADHD, personality disorders, PTSD, etc) is “over-diagnosed.”
--OCD is all about being germaphobic and overly cleanly, defines the person who suffers from the disorder, and is comical evidence that the sufferer is just a neurotic “wimp.”
--Bruno is only “weird” because of spending a decade in total isolation surrounded by rodents.
--PTSD, also thrown into the mix here, is only for rape victims and combat veterans.
Social and Scientific Truths:
--Being on the spectrum is possible for anyone, any gender or race, in any time period.  The increase in cases in recent decades is the result of better tools and paradigms for understanding neurodiversity, not because of a change in the way children are raised, nor because of vaccines (please gtf off my blog if you believe that. Seriously).
--Being on the spectrum is not a death sentence, nor does it make the person “less human.”
--Having any of the aforementioned disorders is difficult and taxing for the person and for the person’s immediate social circle, but can be lived with, with therapy, compassion, and adaptability.
--OCD, an anxiety disorder, is about having intrusive, often stress-inducing, thoughts or impulses, and controlling your emotional response with rigid, compulsive, often ritualistic behaviors. Sometimes the person comes to believe that the environment must be monitored to remain in a set of specific conditions, to be “safe” from the thing feared.  It is not limited to medical fears nor is it evidence of lack of courage or character.
--Autism and OCD are highly comorbid (meaning they often occur together, and symptoms overlap).
--PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) can often aggravate the symptoms of autism and other anxiety disorders.  It can occur as the result of any sufficiently extreme or chronic negative event.
-----------------
Why do I believe Bruno is autistic and has OCD?
--On OCD: Bruno’s superstition is not just an endearing quirk.  It’s the product of a lifetime of possessing a “gift” he never asked for and was repeatedly ordered to access against his will (and we all understand by now why Abuela Alma felt like she “had to” give to the community using her family’s powers, so this isn’t an indictment of her).  It’s a way to cope with long-term negative events that felt outside of Bruno’s ability to control.
 Examples:
--everything must be where it belongs in his (seemingly chaotic) hidey-hole. He immediately knows where, for instance, the little tableaux vivante telenova sets for the rats are. And he refuses to change his “seat at the table,” creating a painted plate behind the kitchen wall--partly an understandable response from anyone, but also rigid in its parameters.  --He is avoidant of situations that make him uncomfortable, to the point that he risks the failure of Mirabel’s mission, because the idea of leaving his controlled and “safe” environment of habit, inside the walls, is too anxiety-inducing. Essentially, he is eliminating variables that could produce results he can’t predict and control (This behavior is comorbid with autism). --He eats the same food for every meal (arepas from Julieta’s kitchen) when he could easily nab anything else in the kitchen that was readily available. (This behavior is comorbid with autism).
-- He keeps his hair the same length, and wears the same ruana, shirt, pants and sandals every day for a decade (this could be in keeping with the Disney aesthetic where everyone has their own signature “costume,” but if you look closely at Bruno’s attire, his ruana is threadbare, falling apart, yet he never takes it off, no matter the weather or social scenario, even after he reunites with the family).  (This behavior is comorbid with autism). --He engages in compulsive behaviors to alleviate his (demonstrably real and possible, but not always probable) fears that something awful will result from his prophecies and the act of making others aware of them: throwing salt and sugar over his shoulder, hopping to avoid cracks in the floor, chanting protective incantations, knocking on wooden surfaces a highly prescribed number of times (I think five? But I’d have to double check), holding his breath and crossing his fingers.  Interestingly, ritual behaviors like this often take the specific form of the person’s culture and belief systems. In Bruno’s case, latinx and Catholic, undoubtedly with some Colombian folk legends thrown into the mix.  --”Magical thinking” (believing in a correspondence between events that is actually coincidental) is a part of severe OCD. Bruno begins to believe, with repeated reinforcement from his family and the townspeople, that his prophecies actually do cause bad things to happen to the people they’re about.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
--On Autism: Bruno may seem insensitive but he doesn’t lack empathy (in fact, he might be hyper-empathic, which is common to many people on the spectrum), compassion, or intelligence, and yet, he repeatedly shows difficulty recognizing his own feelings, and expressing those feelings to others.  Examples:
Tumblr media
--He is extraordinarily awkward with Mirabel ( “you’re very sweaty!” while rescuing her; “bye” the moment they’ve met, telling her she should go but having no valid reason to suggest it).  He clearly recognizes social expectations (a mistake people often make is to infantalize people with autism as if they’re as clueless as children, but this is not the case), but has trouble executing them.
-- Closely connected, he has no verbal filtering system or internal monologue.  Many fans have pointed out this endearing quirk, and they’re right: it’s likely that most of his “doomful prophecies” are actually just him making insightful but unflattering observations about the obvious probability of everyday events. For instance, the man who gains weight probably eats liberally; the priest was already balding and old; the woman’s goldfish was probably looking sick.  Bruno cares about all of these people but also doesn’t reflect on social etiquette or on the sensitive timing of his observations, because it does not naturally occur to him to do so. Put colloquially, he “can’t read a room.”
--He is often highly affected emotionally by ambient "vibes.”  He gets quickly overwhelmed in crowds by all the emotions and noise (overstimulation of the five senses is very typical of a person on the autism spectrum) and chooses to place himself on the outskirts of any crowd, even after his positive reconciliation with his family.
--He behaves erratically and unpredictably, but clearly not to cause trouble, so much as out of a hope of pleasing his family by mirroring their neurotypical behaviors (dancing and singing, but at odd and abrupt times, such as in the middle of the song “All of You”).  This is an autistic coping mechanism known as “masking.”  IN FACT, Bruno’s delight in “acting,” in putting on costumes and using silly voices to make family laugh or smile, is highly indicative that he’s found masking to be a successful way of “fitting in” where he is otherwise awkward, his entire life (”I used to say my real Gift was ‘acting,’” he says, laughing in playful self-deprecation).  Yeah, he’s a theater kid, but that might be part of why!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is by no means a comprehensive list, but I am so pleased to see what I think is a very balanced and successful representation of someone who is neuro-atypical.

Bruno Madrigal is autistic, and here's my reasonings on why I headcanon him to be so:
- Difficulty with social cues: Bruno is portrayed as being quite stiff and rigid when conversing with his family. He is shown to be anxious, fidgety and on-edge when he is forced to speak to someone.
- Speech irregularities: now, this one is a bit out there but Bruno's pitch when he sings "we need a door knob" is different to the rest of the family's and I think it's because he's autistic - or at least neurodivergent. His tone and voice doesn't always match the expected vocal tendencies required for the situation.
- Difficulty expressing his emotions: this one speaks for itself. Autistic people struggle to contextualise and verbalise their emotions. Bruno is shown to have this issue throughout the movie, where he is unable to talk to his family about how he truly feels. The Madrigals all believe he does not like his family, when really he loves them more than anything. Allistics often misunderstand autistic people and their true intentions because of miscommunication.
- Stimming: Bruno is shown to fidget with his fingers and has a very stiff gate, much alike a lot of autistic people. He walks quite peculiar and has a very unique posture. Stroking his rats may also be a stim.
- Imagination: his novelas. Nothing more to add. Autistic people tend to have unique imaginations.
- Traits of OCD and anxiety: statistics show that a large percentage of people on the autism spectrum also have another mental disorder. In Encanto, Bruno displays signs of OCD (his need for this routine may also be linked to his autism, but the addition of the superstitions and worries add to the idea he may also suffer from OCD). He also displays very typical signs of anxiety disorder: he appears to overthink and he has a natural "fight or flight" flight response whenever things get too much for him.
- Communication problems: Bruno is shown to be socially awkward, which ties in heavily with him not understanding social cues. He isn't able to express how he feels or what he truly means without - unknowingly - causing offence or concern. This is shown at Pepa's wedding, where he attempts to make a simple joke but ends up offending Pepa and causing her to panic and cause a hurricane. Autistic people struggle to communicate their thoughts in articulate ways, and often present as being blunt or frequently hurt people inadvertently.
- Being seen as "different": Bruno is shown to be the black sheep of his family, just like Mirabel, he is branded as being troublesome, despite doing nothing but wanting to help and love his family. Often, autistic people's intentions and personalities can get misinterpreted through masking and wanting to please loved ones. It is hard for autistic people to feel accepted when they are trying to hard to fit into the societal norms. In Bruno's case, he just wants to be loved. But his autism sometimes leads to his family seeing the worst in him. This leads to his low self esteem and his anxieties about his worth.
- Asexual: this is a personal headcanon but I think Bruno is asexual, which is quite common (though, not all autistic people are asexual and it's ableist to assume so) on the spectrum. I think that added to Abuela's distrust in him. He was the only one of his siblings not to marry and procreate.
DISCLAIMER: I would NEVER diagnose or headcanon a character with conditions that I don't understand or have myself. I am diagnosed as having OCD, a severe anxiety disorder and am autistic. Also, my headcanon of Bruno being autistic doesn't take away from his Colombian culture. I'd hate to do that. His superstitions don't make him autistic, and they're not stims.
The list here is just things I see myself in. I related so heavily to Bruno.

LGBT Head canon about Abuela Alma Madrigal
________
There is no way that this lady is homophobic. I mean- sure that she wants a "perfect" family before the whole "Casita has fallen" shit but I'm positive that she is a very supporting lady of the community.
Yes, she cares about the miracle and being perfect, but she also cares about the family.
You use she/her pronouns? ok. You use he/him pronouns? sure. You use They/Them pronouns? That's fine. You use neopronouns? Obviously that's alright.
When a person publicly came out, Alma would use their name instead of using their pronouns because she might mis-gender the person. But as little time goes by, she would get used to using he persons pronouns
Alma had one love life in her whole life and that person is Pedro Madrigal. What if she had like girls in her village during her teen age and her 20s (but was oblivious to notice it and is still a tad bit confuse about the community) until she locked eyes with Pedro?
________
story something
Now this is after Casita was fully built again few weeks after.
Alma was taking a stroll outside with Isabela and Bruno, Bruno listening to Isabela's rant about a girl that's just about her age.
Bruno noticed that Alma was spacing out, unconsciously staring at something, or someone
Isabela and Bruno notice her, then looked at her direction
A woman
A fucking woman
The woman has noticeable muscles, though not as large as Luisa's but it's there
She also have almost all of Pedro Madrigal's characteristics, charming too. She looks like about Alma's age
Bruno and Isabela looked back at Alma, only to see a rosy cheeked Abuela, staring at the lady with a love struck look
Bruno and Isabela looked at each other with smug faces which Alma did not notice
Hell, the passerby's noticed them feeling a strange shiver down their spine
________
Back at Casita, you can see Mirabel, Isabela, Dolores and Bruno all huddle up together
Probably talking about what happened with Alma, Bruno and Isabela
Camilo heard them talking about Alma being gay and her crush theories
The group caught him as he was about to tell the others
Mirabel made a deal with him to not tell anyone (that she'll give him seconds)
Camilo obviously accepted then also joined them
Antonio now also know about this because of the birds
Like what they did to Camilo, they bribed Antonio into not telling anyone
Antonio accepted then also joined the group
After many, many observations, it's confirmed that their dearest Abuela/Mama Alma is indeed gay and has a crush on the woman
________
The group made a plan on setting them up
First, Camilo and Mirabel persuade Alma into taking a short break near a small restaurant where the lady, Alejandra, will also be at. With the help of the rest of the family that has no idea of the plan.
Alma accepted
Second, Antonio sent his Toucan friend, Pico, to observe his Abuela and Alejandra with their "hangout". Also along with three of Bruno's rats.
Third, Camilo will shape shift into someone that works at the restaurant as a spy, making sure that nothing will ruin the set up.
Fourth, Isabela will pretend to do a show along with Mirabel with music, Isabela grow flowers and plants once Dolores gave them the signal
Fifth, Dolores, with the help of her enhanced hearing gift, will spy on the two with what they are doing, then will signal Isabela with the flowers.
Alma was surprised to see Alejandra at the restaurant
Alejandra, who noticed Alma was staring, waved at her.
A waiter, or Camilo, who is in disguise, showed Alma and Alejandra their table outside where the two would sit together
Over all, the date was going smoothly until a large tree branch almost fall on top of them
Then our hero, Luisa Madrigal, has came to save the day
She caught the branch with a rope then gently pulled it up, trying to not cause a noise
She then faced Camilo who was hiding behind the walls in his original form, giving him a small wink that probably stands for "I got your back, and yes I know"
MOVING ON. Alma and Alejandra's "hangout" is again, going smoothly
Bruno, who was hiding behind the walls sent Mirabel a cue to play the music
Romance music
Yes, romance music
Blah, Blah, Blah, all those romance stuff over there and then here
Isabela got Dolores's cue into releasing the flowers
Isabela grew out different colors of Camellia flowers all around Alma and Alejandra
Alma's favorite flowers
The two stared at the flowers for a good 5 minutes
Alejandra raise her head up, looking at Alma who was still staring at the flowers with astonishment
Alejandra plucked out a magenta colored Camellia flower then gently placed it on Alma's hair, causing her to get startled a bit
"Magenta Camellia flowers trully suits you."
Alma turned her head around to hide her flushed face
"Owh, there's no need to be embarrassed of Senora Alma"
The group who was hiding behind the walls, knew that the plan was a success. They were going to leave them be since it's time for them to go back, but something fairly.. interesting happened.
"*sigh* It's disappointing that it has to end. So Senora-" "Alma. Please, call me Alma" "A-Alma, care to meet up again tomorrow?" "Hm.. that would be lovely" "Alright, tomorrow at Yevita Bakers at 10:30 A.M"
Alejandra gave Alma a small peck on the cheek as she walks away.
Alma on the other hand was beet red
Meanwhile, the group was silently celebrating the scene that the holy Gods has sent them, trying not to burst in joy and scream
________
"How was your break mama?" Julieta asked as she turned her head around from her currently being cooked food.
"A-ah.. the break- ah-yes, uhm.. it was *cough* nice *cough*" Alma faked her coughed as she drink her tea
"Mama? Are you alright? Your face is red.." "A-ah! No it's nothing. I'm alright.. Akhem.. a-anyway, I'll be in my room to take a nap." Alma left the kitchen, leaving a confuse Julieta behind.
Meanwhile, at the distance

English Translation:
Finally I bring you something from Mirabel's headcanon in my Steampunk AU.
She has adorned herself all of her clothes with her embroidery, lace, hat feather and gear. In addition to improving her glasses and making mittens to protect her hands while she works.
Being the only Madrigal without a gift, she has no responsibilities in the town and is the only one with enough free time to maintain Casita, she repairs it and keeps it up and running, which has made them incredibly close.
With what she has learned by repairing Casita, she has tried to invent gadgets to keep up with her family by replicating her gifts, but none of them work quite well, they tend to fail and be dangerous.
The maintenance of the house implies getting between the walls, there she has met the mechanical rats, she gets along with them and sometimes they help her, but she has never seen Bruno, he avoids her.
She never goes to town unless it is strictly necessary, since she feels rather useless there and she prefers to spend the day with Casita, who truly loves her. A lot of people haven't seen her in years and this has turned her into a bit of a myth, as happened with Bruno.
The only ones, outside of her family, with whom she talks sometimes are the children of the town, who go to Casita so that Mira can tell them about the Madrigals and repair their toys. She has a good hand with children.
I imagine Mira and Casita's relationship with a dynamic like that of The Doctor and his TARDIS. After all, in this AU, Casita is a home, more of a machine than a house, in the steampunk style, bigger inside and alive, it has a soul and it is sensitive, it is chaotic, affectionate, empathic, it rearranges itself to its craving and makes the impossible possible.
Like the TARDIS, Casita can make some little noises with its mechanisms in addition to moving and communicates with people like this, especially with Mirabel who already knows exactly what each sound means and can sense when she is being congratulated, reproached or Casita needs her help.
